Speaker 1: That we're having this weekend. All right, talk about it.
• 0:02
Speaker 2: Go ahead, Well, this weekend, we're going to have an
• 0:05
Speaker 2: elimination dinner. It's one hundred dollars donation. You and your
• 0:10
Speaker 2: significant other can come and have a really nice Italian
• 0:15
Speaker 2: style meal and get buy a ticket. Seventy five dollars
• 0:18
Speaker 2: of that ticket is tax deductible, and we're going to
• 0:22
Speaker 2: be giving away prizes throughout the night. If you don't
• 0:25
Speaker 2: know what an elimination dinner is, so basically, all the
• 0:28
Speaker 2: tickets have a number, and those numbers will be on
• 0:32
Speaker 2: a board and as we go through the evening, they
• 0:35
Speaker 2: will start eliminating numbers, and throughout that process they'll be
• 0:38
Speaker 2: giving away some door prizes and some fun things. But
• 0:42
Speaker 2: if you are one of the lucky three that remain
• 0:46
Speaker 2: on the board, we have a third place is a
• 0:50
Speaker 2: five hundred dollars gift. The cash prize for second place
• 0:55
Speaker 2: is seven point fifty and the whole thousand dollars for
• 0:59
Speaker 2: the last winter with the last person that has their
• 1:01
Speaker 2: number up on the board. It's always a good dinner, it's.
• 1:04
Speaker 1: A good social And where's it going to be.
• 1:05
Speaker 2: It is going to be at four to six Capitol Street,
• 1:10
Speaker 2: which is just across the street from the old Daniel
• 1:13
Speaker 2: Boone Hotel, and it'll be there at the Valley of Charleston,
• 1:18
Speaker 2: Scottish Right building and if you don't have tickets, you
• 1:22
Speaker 2: can call three zero four three four two seven eight
• 1:25
Speaker 2: three three to get you some tickets. For this Saturday,
• 1:29
Speaker 2: we're going to have a social hore from five to
• 1:31
Speaker 2: six and then promptly at six dinner will be served
• 1:35
Speaker 2: and we're going to start eliminating those numbers and try
• 1:37
Speaker 2: to get through that process and get down to those
• 1:41
Speaker 2: last three cash prizes, which is really exciting.
• 1:44
Speaker 1: It's a lot of fun. I got to ask you
• 1:45
Speaker 1: because I've been to several of these elimination dinners in
• 1:47
Speaker 1: the past, and I don't know if whether your guys
• 1:50
Speaker 1: are going to work this way or not, but what
• 1:52
Speaker 1: I have noticed in the past there some of these
• 1:54
Speaker 1: there tends to be a little bit of trading back
• 1:57
Speaker 1: and forth, you know people and as the night perses people,
• 2:01
Speaker 1: I mean, so what are your rules on that? Whatever
• 2:03
Speaker 1: you want to do it.
• 2:04
Speaker 2: There's a lot of different nuances to this, and to
• 2:07
Speaker 2: be honest with you, it gets kind of fun and
• 2:11
Speaker 2: a little bit hard to follow. But there's a lot
• 2:13
Speaker 2: of opportunity for you to re enter the drawing and
• 2:18
Speaker 2: all of those things. So it's going to be a
• 2:21
Speaker 2: really fun, exciting night. And the way that they put
• 2:24
Speaker 2: it on is just it's so entertaining and the food's good,
• 2:28
Speaker 2: you know, and of course the philanthropy behind it is
• 2:33
Speaker 2: the main thing. It's all about the children and that
• 2:36
Speaker 2: Lawrence Jones Childhood Language Center. It's located at thirteen thirteen
• 2:41
Speaker 2: Warrier just down the street, and so we're really excited
• 2:45
Speaker 2: about that. They do a lot of work with children
• 2:48
Speaker 2: who have language disorders.
• 2:52
Speaker 1: And so it's a fantastic organization.
• 2:55
  Speaker 2: Is unbelievable.
• 2:55
Speaker 1: I've had several folks on for various fundraisers and the
• 2:58
Speaker 1: passing people from the would Center on the show in
• 3:01
Speaker 1: the path. It's a great organization, it certainly is.
• 3:03
Speaker 2: And the wonderful thing is all the services are free
• 3:06
Speaker 2: to the children that need it, and the Scottish Right
• 3:11
Speaker 2: is the main body that raises money for that and
• 3:15
  Speaker 2: keeps that going, and it's it's it's been a wonderful
• 3:18
Speaker 2: thing for Kenall County right here in Charleston located. We
• 3:21
Speaker 2: serve a lot of children in this area, so it's
• 3:24
Speaker 2: it's a wonderful event to have a great time, but
• 3:27
Speaker 2: also help the children here in our community.
• 3:30
Speaker 1: Talk again with Chris witthrow a Dave Island Show and
• 3:32
Speaker 1: five idyline brought to you in part by a Husband's Pizza.
• 3:35
Speaker 1: This month get a large etenach Pepperoni pizza and a
• 3:37
Speaker 1: large toss out that only twenty one ninety nine dine in,
• 3:40
Speaker 1: pickup or get delivery at husbands Pizza dot com. So
• 3:42
Speaker 1: if folks are going to get how many tickets are available?
• 3:45
Speaker 1: I mean, I mean how many will you see? How
• 3:47
Speaker 1: many will it hold?
• 3:48
Speaker 2: Well, we're we'll have up somewhere between four and six
• 3:52
Speaker 2: hundred tickets sold. You know we've got plenty still left.
• 3:56
Speaker 2: So let's let's uh, we want to get everybody a
• 3:59
Speaker 2: chance to buy those tickets.
• 4:00
Speaker 1: Well, and the important thing for planning purposes is the
• 4:03
Speaker 1: earlier if you're planning on going, the earlier you can
• 4:05
Speaker 1: get your tickets, the better because you got to start
• 4:08
Speaker 1: dealing with head counts and making sure that you don't right,
• 4:10
Speaker 1: because there's there's nothing worse than running out of food.
• 4:13
Speaker 2: Well, I can guarantee you we won't do that. The
• 4:16
Speaker 2: ladies and all the gentlemen that that put this thing on.
• 4:20
Speaker 2: They work hard and listen. As long as you're willing
• 4:23
Speaker 2: to buy a ticket, we're going to give you one
• 4:25
Speaker 2: and you're gonna have a great meal, great social hour
• 4:28
Speaker 2: between five and six there on Saturday the eleventh, and
• 4:31
Speaker 2: uh So it's going to be a really good, really
• 4:33
Speaker 2: good time. And I hope we get people to come
• 4:35
Speaker 2: in and buy some tickets and show their support for.
• 4:38
Speaker 1: Days we've been saying for a wonderful, wonderful cause because
• 4:41
Speaker 1: they do some they do some great with talk about
• 4:43
Speaker 1: the work overall. You haven't been on in a while,
• 4:46
Speaker 1: I mean of the Scottish Rights go ahead, Well.
• 4:49
Speaker 2: The Scottish Rade Is is a Masonic body that very
• 4:54
Speaker 2: much like the shrine they shrine. Obviously, their philanthropy is
• 4:58
Speaker 2: the Shriner's Hospital will Are. So it's a little more located,
• 5:01
Speaker 2: a little more focused here in Charleston with the Language Center,
• 5:06
Speaker 2: and they help children who have a number of disorders
• 5:11
Speaker 2: with speech, autism, ashbergers, a lot of different things. Hearing
• 5:16
Speaker 2: impairments is, as you know, having a hearing impairment really
• 5:23
Speaker 2: has a bearing on their speech. And so if we
• 5:27
Speaker 2: start these children out at an early age, we can
• 5:30
Speaker 2: help them develop their skills to so that they have
• 5:34
Speaker 2: a normal, productive life when it comes to speech and
• 5:38
Speaker 2: you know, that sort of issue. So it's it's a wonderful,
• 5:42
Speaker 2: wonderful organization. The Language Center here in Charleston. They service
• 5:49
Speaker 2: and deal with a lot of different disorders and I
• 5:52
Speaker 2: don't think there's very few things that they've seen that
• 5:55
Speaker 2: they've not been able to help these children. We have
• 5:57
Speaker 2: lots of success and a lot of wonderful stories that
• 6:01
Speaker 2: will be told throughout the evening about how specific children
• 6:05
Speaker 2: with their needs and how we've been able to overcome
• 6:08
Speaker 2: some of their disabilities. It's an awesome, awesome.
• 6:11
Speaker 1: And of course, the earlier that you can get kids
• 6:13
Speaker 1: the services that they need, the better off they are,
• 6:17
Speaker 1: because I mean, I'm not trying to be pretend like
• 6:19
Speaker 1: I'm an expert in this, but just in interviewing these
• 6:21
Speaker 1: folks over the years, the earlier you can get kids
• 6:23
Speaker 1: started in the service, the better off everybody's going to.
• 6:25
Speaker 2: Be, absolutely and you know, having the ability for the
• 6:30
Speaker 2: parents because you know, some of these services when you're
• 6:34
Speaker 2: out there in the public is very expensive and it
• 6:37
Speaker 2: kind of prevents people and that's one thing that we
• 6:41
Speaker 2: take care of as Scottish Rite. We will raise those moneies.
• 6:46
Speaker 2: We do what we have to do, and there is
• 6:48
Speaker 2: no cost to the parents for this type of world class,
• 6:52
Speaker 2: honestly treatment for their children, and it's we're really proud
• 6:55
Speaker 2: of that, and that's really our mission down there. That's
• 6:57
Speaker 2: our main philanthropy and we're very happy with what they're
• 7:01
  Speaker 2: doing down there.
• 7:02
Speaker 1: All right, give us all the details again.
• 7:04

• 10:29
Speaker 1: How are you, my friend?
• 10:31

• 10:32
Speaker 1: Okay, we can hear you, just fine. And I appreciate

• 10:39
Speaker 1: in place and ready to go, because it's what it's
• 10:42
Speaker 1: six point twenty one where you are right now.
• 10:44
  Speaker 7: Right right right?
• 10:46
Speaker 6: Can I tell you a quick story?
• 10:48
Speaker 1: You can do whatever you want. You're Danny freakin Jones. Man.
• 10:52
Speaker 6: You know. He was talking about the Lawrence June Language Center. Yeah,
• 10:57
Speaker 6: that was my brother, yep. And I'll tell you what
• 11:02
Speaker 6: story about him. He grew up with a speech impediment
• 11:06
Speaker 6: and it was really bad, and he used to go
• 11:09
Speaker 6: to Memorial Hospital and his teacher was a guy named Jeff.
• 11:15
Speaker 6: And I would be outside the room waiting on Lawrence
• 11:17
Speaker 6: to finish, and I was just you know, I was
• 11:19
Speaker 6: in the fifties or maybe nineteen sixty, and Jeff would
• 11:25
Speaker 6: just yell at Lawrence, and I thought quit talking to
• 11:28
Speaker 6: him like that. But he not only did he develop
• 11:33
Speaker 6: a voice, he developed a radio voice. And if you
• 11:37
Speaker 6: want to ask about that, talked to Steve Bishop. And
• 11:41
Speaker 6: so his passion and life became language. And in the book,
• 11:49
Speaker 6: in my book, my parents had a lady that worked
• 11:53
Speaker 6: for him, and her name was Laura, and my sister's
• 11:59
Speaker 6: name was Laura. And Lawrence couldn't understand that. He didn't
• 12:05
Speaker 6: he couldn't grasp that. So he started calling their God,
• 12:08
Speaker 6: and then we all called her God. And God is
• 12:11
Speaker 6: on their on their headstone, you know. And but he, uh,
• 12:21
Speaker 6: he left three million dollars to that to do that
• 12:25
Speaker 6: language center, and and that if Delta building has an endowment,
• 12:31
Speaker 6: and I encourage people to support it. If I'd be
• 12:33
Speaker 6: in town, I'd go.
• 12:35
Speaker 1: Yeah, it isn't an amazing Danny, when you're talking about
• 12:37
Speaker 1: your brother that some of the great speakers of our time,
• 12:43
Speaker 1: take James Earl Jones for example, started out with a
• 12:47
Speaker 1: lot of struggles when it came to language.
• 12:51
Speaker 6: Well, and people don't like this guy, and I understand that.
• 12:55
Speaker 6: I get it. But Biden had the heck of a
• 12:58
Speaker 6: stellar and later on before he his brain started dripping.
• 13:06
Speaker 6: I mean he spoke on the Sunate floor. He was
• 13:09
Speaker 6: a pretty good speaker. So yeah, you're right. I mean
• 13:13
Speaker 6: people can overcome that, and not only that, they can
• 13:17
  Speaker 6: become great speakers.
• 13:18
Speaker 1: Yeah, you're right about that, Danny. I have to ask
• 13:21
Speaker 1: you about the President's post on truth social on Easter Sunday.
• 13:26
Speaker 1: No less, I will quote and I will clean it up.
• 13:29
Speaker 1: Yesterday morning he hit with Tuesday will be power plant
• 13:33
Speaker 1: Day and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one in
• 13:35
Speaker 1: a rod. There will be nothing like it. Open the
• 13:38
Speaker 1: blank straight, you crazy bastards, or you'll be living in hell.
• 13:42
Speaker 1: Just watch praise be to allad It was signed President
• 13:46
  Speaker 1: Donald J. Trump.
• 13:46
Speaker 6: Your thoughts, Yeah, well, yes, there's Easter Sunday, and I
• 13:56
Speaker 6: went to a Baptist search out here, and it's hard
• 14:03
Speaker 6: to fathom the message I heard yesterday matching up with
• 14:11
Speaker 6: that kind of message on Easter Sunday. So what it
• 14:15
Speaker 6: tells me is he is go to church history and
• 14:21
Speaker 6: and I'm I'm sorry President Trump has this negative instincts,
• 14:28
Speaker 6: whether it be Robert Mueller or Rob Runner or all
• 14:34
Speaker 6: that stuff is totally unnecessary. And you can put a
• 14:39
Speaker 6: message out and then you and I can talk to
• 14:42
Speaker 6: each other, and I can get vulgar, but I try
• 14:47
Speaker 6: not to and he tries to. So what's wrong? And
• 14:55
Speaker 6: what do you do when you're president? You make it
• 14:58
Speaker 6: normal and it's Easter, Subby man shouldn't do that.
• 15:03
Speaker 1: Well, And you know, it's one thing, in my opinion, Danny,
• 15:06
Speaker 1: it's one thing, the way that you talk to the
• 15:09
Speaker 1: people around you, whether it's your friends or family. I mean,
• 15:13
Speaker 1: I certainly say things to certain friends that I wouldn't
• 15:16
Speaker 1: say to other friends out of respect for them. Do
• 15:18
Speaker 1: you understand where I'm going with that?
• 15:21
Speaker 6: No, that's correct, You're exactly right. And I have, thank goodness,
• 15:26
Speaker 6: I have tried to get away from doing that. I mean,
• 15:28
Speaker 6: I was in the Marine Corps, and we we cuss
• 15:31
Speaker 6: like sailors, you know, like the Marine Corps is part
• 15:37
Speaker 6: of the Navy. So that's the way we cussed. And
• 15:41
Speaker 6: I never quite got away from it. And I'm trying
• 15:44
Speaker 6: to get away from it. And because you don't know
• 15:46
Speaker 6: who you're going to offend, right, yeah, I mean he's
• 15:49
Speaker 6: defending people. And let me tell you what has happened
• 15:52
Speaker 6: to President Trump. He has lost for the first time
• 15:56
Speaker 6: the working class white boat.
• 15:59
Speaker 1: Do you think so?
• 16:01
  Speaker 6: Now?
• 16:01
Speaker 1: I know so okay, but how does that say?
• 16:05
  Speaker 8: So?
• 16:05
  Speaker 7: Well?
• 16:05
Speaker 1: And now I've got some pole numbers, I want to
• 16:07
Speaker 1: roll and run by you. But does that change anything
• 16:10
Speaker 1: in West Virginia in your opinion? Because I got some
• 16:13
Speaker 1: poll numbers here recently. But in West Virginia, his approval
• 16:17
Speaker 1: rating is about fifty six percent. Now that's less than
• 16:19
Speaker 1: what it used to be. But based on my scrolling
• 16:23
Speaker 1: of social media yesterday, it's I did not find that
• 16:28
Speaker 1: one person that said, Okay, I'm done. I was on board,
• 16:33
Speaker 1: I'm not now. I saw I saw comments from people saying, well,
• 16:39
Speaker 1: I don't necessarily like it, but look at the big picture,
• 16:42
Speaker 1: look at what he's doing with closing the border or
• 16:44
Speaker 1: look what he's doing in Iran. I support that, so
• 16:47
Speaker 1: I'm willing to let this go. I just don't think
• 16:51
Speaker 1: it makes a difference in West Virginia, Danny.
• 16:53
Speaker 6: To be honest with you, no it doesn't. I mean,
• 16:56
Speaker 6: he had a seventy percent margin. It'll go down, but
• 17:00
Speaker 6: it'll never go below fifty percent. And I tried to
• 17:04
Speaker 6: explain to my friends out here. My best friend out
• 17:08
Speaker 6: here is a public information officer for one of the
• 17:13
Speaker 6: biggest star departments in the area, and I tried to
• 17:17
Speaker 6: explain to him and my other friends, a lot of
• 17:20
Speaker 6: whom are Democrats at West Virginia had nowhere to go,
• 17:26
Speaker 6: and what happened when President Obama and his EPA closed
• 17:34
Speaker 6: down all the coal lines and there was no Plan
• 17:37
  Speaker 6: B for those people, you still didn't. I mean, he's
• 17:41
Speaker 6: tried to loosen that up to him, but it'll never
• 17:44
Speaker 6: ring the way it was. I mean, because that affected
• 17:48
Speaker 6: Charleston David, that affected the Lady Tower, all the coal
• 17:55
Speaker 6: mines that were there, all the CTA firms are dependent
• 18:00
Speaker 6: on the law firms. I mean, it has a ripple effect.
• 18:03
Speaker 6: And then you go in southern West Virginia and you
• 18:06
Speaker 6: think about heck beer joint. I mean, you think about
• 18:10
Speaker 6: grocery stores. I mean in Welch, they couldn't even They
• 18:14
Speaker 6: came in and build a Walmart and put all the
• 18:16
Speaker 6: mom and pops out of business, and then that.
• 18:18
Speaker 1: Yeah, when's the last time you heard about the walmart closing?
• 18:20
Speaker 1: But it did. You're right in mcdowll County, the Walmart
• 18:22
  Speaker 1: did close.
• 18:25
Speaker 6: And where did those people go to get groceries? I mean,
• 18:28
  Speaker 6: it's just it's hard, and it's it's difficult. And he,
• 18:37
Speaker 6: of course this is his last term and he just
• 18:41
Speaker 6: fired I understood, Well, you can fire and iron fire
• 18:47
Speaker 6: who you want. But I wouldn't take that Attorney General's job,
• 18:51
Speaker 6: but I'd recommend anybody. I hope Lee's Eldon, who I like,
• 18:55
Speaker 6: who almost became governor of New York's the EPA guy.
• 18:59
Speaker 6: I hope he doesn't take that job because I really
• 19:02
  Speaker 6: like him well.
• 19:03
Speaker 1: And one of the reasons why, and a lot of
• 19:06
Speaker 1: people I watched a lot of the news shows yesterday
• 19:08
Speaker 1: and did a lot of reading near the weekend. One
• 19:10
Speaker 1: of the reasons why, in a lot of people's eyes,
• 19:12
Speaker 1: Pam Bondi was fired was because she wasn't going after
• 19:16
Speaker 1: President Trump's enemies enough and he he pointed Blake, He
• 19:20
Speaker 1: pointed Blank said that a couple of months ago. He
• 19:23
Speaker 1: wants people that are going to go after his enemies.
• 19:26
Speaker 1: It's a retribution tour. And he just felt like that
• 19:28
Speaker 1: she just simply wasn't doing enough to go after his enemies.
• 19:34
Speaker 6: Well, she she went after some of them, but she
• 19:36
Speaker 6: wasn't successful because there were no sustainable charges. And you know,
• 19:44
Speaker 6: call me and Latsia, James and those folks, they're just
• 19:49
Speaker 6: they didn't have And by the way, the charges were
• 19:53
Speaker 6: bought in Northern Virginia. You never put a jury together
• 19:58
Speaker 6: and that and that district to convict any of those people.
• 20:03
Speaker 6: Oh you had to do to say Trump's on the
• 20:05
  Speaker 6: other side.
• 20:08
Speaker 1: We have a text here, Danny says, imagine if Clinton,
• 20:11
Speaker 1: Obama or Biden posted an F bomb, let alone anything
• 20:14
Speaker 1: else in that post yesterday on Easter. People who still
• 20:17
Speaker 1: condone this buffoon have no respect for the office of
• 20:20
Speaker 1: the president. I'm no fans as a texture of JD. Vance,
• 20:23
Speaker 1: but at least he'd be less of a problem than
• 20:26
Speaker 1: this guy referring to Donald Trump.
• 20:27
Speaker 6: I think I think Marco Rubio would be the best
• 20:32
Speaker 6: of the lot in that group. Yeah, I don't think that.
• 20:41
Speaker 6: Once again, Trump's vulgarity is making it normal. Another and
• 20:50
Speaker 6: on Easter Sunday, it tells me he doesn't nobody's talking
• 20:57
Speaker 6: to him, No, nobody. He's not listening to anybody. And
• 21:01
Speaker 6: you know, we're all guilty about that when we get
• 21:04
Speaker 6: in power. Yeah, you know, you have to run things
• 21:07
Speaker 6: by other people. Yeah, absolutely, But he doesn't do that,
• 21:12
Speaker 6: and it's really sad and in the end it's not
• 21:17
  Speaker 6: going to work.
• 21:18
Speaker 1: I caught you know, Uh, I don't always agree with
• 21:21
Speaker 1: him on everything, but I am a fan and because
• 21:23
Speaker 1: I think he's one of the most entertaining guys out there.
• 21:25
  Speaker 3: And it's Steven A.
• 21:25
Speaker 1: Smith and he was on Bill Maher. Bill didn't do
• 21:29
Speaker 1: a show this past week, but I caught last weekend
• 21:31
Speaker 1: show yesterday and he was talking about it seems like
• 21:35
Speaker 1: this time around that you know, during the first term,
• 21:40
Speaker 1: President Trump had people around him who would push back
• 21:42
Speaker 1: a little bit, and maybe not pushback, but maybe Danny
• 21:45
Speaker 1: just said, well, you know, it's president. That's not a
• 21:47
Speaker 1: good idea, okay on a particular subject. This time around,
• 21:50
Speaker 1: it seems like he has surrounded himself by people. The
• 21:52
Speaker 1: example that Steve was kind of funny that Steven A.
• 21:54
Speaker 1: Smith used was anybody that brings him a cup of
• 21:57
Speaker 1: coffee is going to set the coffee down out and
• 22:00
Speaker 1: then go, mister President, it is my honor to be
• 22:03
Speaker 1: able to serve you this cup of coffee.
• 22:05
  Speaker 9: Uh.
• 22:06
Speaker 1: You're the greatest president ever. You deserve this coffee. That
• 22:08
Speaker 1: was the word for Steve A. Smith, and he called
• 22:10
  Speaker 1: it sickening.
• 22:11
  Speaker 10: Uh.
• 22:11
Speaker 1: And that's what it seems like, that's what this president
• 22:14
Speaker 1: wants now. And then it seems like in many cases, Danny,
• 22:16
  Speaker 1: that's what he's getting.
• 22:19
Speaker 6: And Stephen A. Smith is not some guy in the wall,
• 22:22
Speaker 6: radical left winger either. No.
• 22:24
Speaker 1: No, if you watch that interview, he took everybody out, Republicans, Democrats,
• 22:28
Speaker 1: I mean, he took everybody out, but it was still
• 22:31
Speaker 1: in a respectful way.
• 22:34
  Speaker 6: I love the guy. He's he's a he's a good man,
• 22:38
Speaker 6: and and it's just it's just it's just sad that
• 22:44
Speaker 6: it's come to this. I don't know about it, Ran,
• 22:48
Speaker 6: I don't know. I'll tell you what surprises me, what's happened.
• 22:53
Speaker 6: And I'm not sure if anybody's fawt to them firing
• 22:57
Speaker 6: on their Arab neighbors and firing on the ones that
• 23:01
Speaker 6: have been involved in the Abraham Accords, which which went
• 23:09
Speaker 6: after Israel or decided to recognize Israel. And my question
• 23:17
Speaker 6: is where is Sau the Arabian all this They've been
• 23:20
Speaker 6: choreographing this thing, and they've got an army. Why aren't
• 23:25
Speaker 6: they in there? They they hate Iran and they consider
• 23:29
Speaker 6: around a big threat, and why aren't they involved? And
• 23:37
Speaker 6: that could make a huge difference. You want ground troops.
• 23:40
  Speaker 6: They've got him.
• 23:42
Speaker 1: So what if anything happened? What if anything happens tomorrow?
• 23:47
Speaker 1: Because you know the president. I just saw a headline
• 23:50
Speaker 1: here that flashed across the television that said something about
• 23:53
Speaker 1: and I haven't seen the exact quote, but apparently he
• 23:55
Speaker 1: just put out a statement or something at some point.
• 23:57
Speaker 1: I think he is going to give a press conference
• 23:59
Speaker 1: later today. He's gonna but he said something like blowing
• 24:02
Speaker 1: everything up. What do you think happens tomorrow? Anyran, Because
• 24:06
Speaker 1: he also turns around and he just released the statement
• 24:08
Speaker 1: SAIDs there's a good chance of deal is going to
• 24:10
  Speaker 1: be reached.
• 24:11
  Speaker 6: Nothing's gonna nothing's gonna happen.
• 24:14
Speaker 1: You don't think so?
• 24:15
Speaker 6: Well, I don't know who knows about that guy, But
• 24:21
Speaker 6: like you said, he he gives conflicting messages. And what
• 24:27
Speaker 6: you do is we could take out the oil fields,
• 24:31
Speaker 6: kick them all out. But then what's China gonna do
• 24:35
Speaker 6: because they get forty percent of their oil from Iran.
• 24:39
Speaker 6: Then you then you put them in a box. And
• 24:45
  Speaker 6: I you know, it's it's if we don't get much
• 24:49
Speaker 6: oil through the strait of her moods.
• 24:51
Speaker 1: But our allies right well, and then go ahead.
• 24:56
Speaker 6: And the French have at the French won't even let
• 24:59
Speaker 6: us use their I really believe we ought to tell them.
• 25:03
Speaker 6: Tell NATO, look, we'll take care of Ron. You guys
• 25:08
Speaker 6: take care of what's that country of Russia? And David, Ukraine,
• 25:14
Speaker 6: that's Ukraine. You take care of Ukraine because NATO has
• 25:21
Speaker 6: not been I'm not saying we should get out of NATO,
• 25:24
Speaker 6: but NATO has not been a an ally that can
• 25:32
Speaker 6: be trusted. It's been helpful in this in this myth all.
• 25:37
Speaker 1: Right, Texas. Trump is losing support in West Virginia. Christian
• 25:41
Speaker 1: voters have had enough. I go to a big church
• 25:43
Speaker 1: in this valley and they are disgusted by his actions
• 25:48
Speaker 1: in the White House. I appreciate the text. I'd say
• 25:50
Speaker 1: that's probably the minority, though.
• 25:54
  Speaker 6: I don't know. I mean, I don't want to call
• 26:00
Speaker 6: a church out by name. Right, there's a huge church,
• 26:03
Speaker 6: huge fundamentalist Christian church out on out on the quarter
• 26:08
Speaker 6: g and I'd be curious to what they feel about this.
• 26:11
  Speaker 6: All right?
• 26:12
Speaker 1: Uh, well, I saw I'll just say this. I saw
• 26:15
  Speaker 1: a post from a local pastor and I won't I
• 26:16
Speaker 1: won't mention his name or his church that said. And
• 26:20
Speaker 1: I'm paraphrasing here. So while while I don't like the
• 26:22
Speaker 1: language the President used, we ie now this congregation, he
• 26:26
Speaker 1: still stands behind them. That was from a from a
• 26:30
Speaker 1: pretty well known pastor here in the Charleston area, Texas.
• 26:33
Speaker 1: I will not vote for a Republican for the first
• 26:35
Speaker 1: time in forty five years because the constitution. Trump's party
• 26:39
Speaker 1: Texas really griping about the F bomb while Bumbles, I
• 26:46
Speaker 1: guess that's a reference to Kamala Harris. I guess while
• 26:50
Speaker 1: Bumbles hosted the disgusting, blasphemous freak show International Transgender Day
• 26:54
Speaker 1: of Visibility on the White House line. Not a peep,
• 26:58
Speaker 1: says a Texter Texas. David and Obama both robbed the
• 27:01
Speaker 1: F Bama public. Also, thank god we have a president
• 27:03
Speaker 1: that has taken action against the number one terrorist nation.
• 27:09
Speaker 6: One has nothing to do with the other. What somebody
• 27:13
Speaker 6: else did, what Biden or Harris or Obama did, doesn't
• 27:18
Speaker 6: excuse using that kind of language on Easter Sunday period.
• 27:23
Speaker 6: It just doesn't excuse it, all right, And it's all
• 27:27
Speaker 6: it's always the fallback position of the Trump apologists.
• 27:31
Speaker 1: All right, we are going to have to leave it there, Danny,
• 27:34

• 30:43
  Speaker 12: Good morning?
• 30:44
  Speaker 2: How are you.
• 30:44
Speaker 1: I'm going to find a great weekend here in the
• 30:46
Speaker 1: Capital City. I mean, there's so many things going on
• 30:48
  Speaker 1: with you, There's.
• 30:49
Speaker 12: So many things going on. There's so many things going
• 30:52
Speaker 12: on this upcoming week and so many neat things. But
• 30:55
Speaker 12: let me go ahead and say, if you don't mind
• 30:57
Speaker 12: the US listening to your first guest talking out the
• 31:00
Speaker 12: Childhood Language Center and I have I have direct emotional
• 31:05
Speaker 12: connection to the Childhood Language Center. Booth and I have
• 31:07
Speaker 12: a one of our children went to the Childhood Language
• 31:10
Speaker 12: Center for years and it is an amazing, amazing place
• 31:15
Speaker 12: in space. You know, if you have a child that
• 31:18
Speaker 12: has a speech for language, disorder a coocular implants Asperger's autism,
• 31:23
Speaker 12: speech and language disorders of any kind. You will know
• 31:28
Speaker 12: when I say you get very attached to your therapist,
• 31:31
Speaker 12: get very attached to the people who are helping your children.
• 31:34
Speaker 12: And they do an amazing job. And Lawrence Jones I
• 31:39
Speaker 12: served on the board there with him for a while.
• 31:41
Speaker 12: After my son left, I started serving on the board
• 31:44
Speaker 12: as well and doing a little work there, and it
• 31:48
Speaker 12: had had such a profound impact on our child. If
• 31:53
Speaker 12: you if your kid needs help, your kid needs help now,
• 31:56
Speaker 12: they do an amazing job. And if your child can't commute, municate,
• 32:00
Speaker 12: or can't communicate, well, dave the frustration of it, you know,
• 32:03
Speaker 12: of them not being able to communicate. So I just
• 32:06
Speaker 12: I plod just not only the work that they do
• 32:08
Speaker 12: and trying to raise funds and thanks for all of
• 32:10
Speaker 12: the men and women who donate and help support, but
• 32:14
Speaker 12: also to the therapist because it is really it's a
• 32:17
Speaker 12: challenging job and people do an amazing job over there.
• 32:20
Speaker 12: So a big shout out to folks of the Childhood
• 32:22
Speaker 12: Language Center, changing lives of folks every single day. So
• 32:26
Speaker 12: I just wanted to I just want to get my
• 32:28
Speaker 12: big thanks out to them.
• 32:30
Speaker 1: There is going to be a lot of people running
• 32:32
Speaker 1: in Charleston here, so many. I don't mean for office,
• 32:34
Speaker 1: I mean running in the streets.
• 32:36
  Speaker 6: I know.
• 32:37
Speaker 12: I'm so excited. Seven hundred runners, thirty different countries, I mean,
• 32:40
Speaker 12: or thirty different states. It's going to be amazing. I
• 32:43
Speaker 12: will not be running. I will be cheering, although I
• 32:46
Speaker 12: do have some family members who will be running. It's
• 32:49
Speaker 12: such an incredible opportunity for the capital city of the
• 32:53
Speaker 12: state of West Virginia to have a marathon. We are
• 32:56
Speaker 12: known for, certainly our fifteen mile run, and that is
• 33:00
Speaker 12: also an amazing and very challenging race. I have run
• 33:04
Speaker 12: that race before in the past, but this marathon is
• 33:08
Speaker 12: not going to be for sissies. And so thanks so
• 33:11
Speaker 12: much to the folks who are organizing it and who
• 33:15
Speaker 12: have been working on it for so so long, including
• 33:19
Speaker 12: our University of Charleston president Marty Roth and just it's
• 33:24
Speaker 12: going to be really, really great.
• 33:25
Speaker 1: And they need volunteers.
• 33:26
Speaker 12: It's going to be nice. It's gonna be nice.
• 33:28
Speaker 1: With we did an interview of the news Sport. We
• 33:29
Speaker 1: an interview with Tricia. One of the pictures Robali, who's
• 33:32
Speaker 1: one of the people that's helping to put this on,
• 33:34
Speaker 1: and she'd reached out to us saying that they really
• 33:37
Speaker 1: need volunteers. I've got her schedule to come on the
• 33:39
Speaker 1: show Wednesday morning, I think to talk about it. But
• 33:42
Speaker 1: they definitely need volunteers.
• 33:44
Speaker 12: They need volunteers. The good news is there's so many
• 33:46
Speaker 12: students in our valley to Dave who need volunteers for school,
• 33:50
Speaker 12: by the way, to receive credit for many things. So
• 33:53
Speaker 12: if you need, if you would like or have a
• 33:56
Speaker 12: child or grandchild that needs those volunteer opportunities, by the way, obviously,
• 34:00
Speaker 12: you can call the University of Charleston and you can
• 34:02
Speaker 12: get connected with volunteering there. You can volunteer the Regatta.
• 34:06
Speaker 12: Goodness me gracious, we have so many wonderful opportunities for
• 34:09
Speaker 12: folks to volunteer there, or live on the levee or
• 34:12
Speaker 12: USA Cycling. And so if you call three four eight
• 34:16
Speaker 12: eight one seven four, or just go on our City
• 34:19
Speaker 12: of Charleston paycheck, you can email me or text me
• 34:22
Speaker 12: and we'll be happy to get back with you. And
• 34:24
Speaker 12: you know, this is what I will say, and it's
• 34:26
  Speaker 12: a it's a nice big segue because tonight we're going
• 34:28
Speaker 12: to vote on it. We have counsel coming up this evening.
• 34:31
Speaker 12: And one of the things that I started many many
• 34:34
Speaker 12: years ago was the mayor Summer Jobs Program. And I'll
• 34:37
Speaker 12: be very candid of how it started. It started. We
• 34:41
Speaker 12: used to have a summer jobs program, by the way,
• 34:43
Speaker 12: and so it was for that opportunity that you know,
• 34:46
Speaker 12: your college kids that come home. I was talking to
• 34:48
Speaker 12: somebody the other day at one of our restaurants. They said, Oh,
• 34:50
Speaker 12: we've got these two college kids that are coming back.
• 34:52
Speaker 12: We can't wait. They're awesome servers. So excited because it's
• 34:55
Speaker 12: challenging right to get to get folks to work, but
• 34:58
Speaker 12: it's really challenging when you in that weird sixteen seventeen age.
• 35:03
Speaker 12: And so what a grand opportunity we found here in
• 35:06
Speaker 12: the City of Charleston to make a jobs program come
• 35:10
Speaker 12: back to life. I give shout out to Andy Bacchus
• 35:14
Speaker 12: from the Mayor's Office of Economic and Community Development. He
• 35:17
Speaker 12: does an outstanding job with our team members. But it
• 35:20
Speaker 12: was kJ Taylor. It was the death of kJ Taylor.
• 35:24
Speaker 12: And I remember, like yesterday I was down on the
• 35:27
Speaker 12: West Side with council Member Larry Moore, and I think,
• 35:30
  Speaker 12: as all I'm a parent, I always say, I'm a mayor,
• 35:33
  Speaker 12: but I'm a mother and a wife first, And I
• 35:35
Speaker 12: was sitting talking to these these children who were grieving
• 35:38
Speaker 12: in just the most horrific way. Dave and one of
• 35:42
Speaker 12: the young gentlemen said to me, you need to do
• 35:45
Speaker 12: something for us, and I said, I'll do anything. Tell
• 35:49
Speaker 12: me what it is, and he said, we need a
• 35:50
Speaker 12: place to go. And in my head, this fifty five
• 35:54
Speaker 12: year old woman, in my head, I was thinking, Okay,
• 35:57
Speaker 12: is it a center? Is it about where do you
• 36:00
Speaker 12: want to go? Is it a place? And he said, no,
• 36:02
Speaker 12: give me a job. I said, We're going to do it.
• 36:06
Speaker 12: And I remember coming back and saying to Matthew Sudden, okay,
• 36:09
Speaker 12: we got to get we got to do jobs. And
• 36:11
Speaker 12: he's like, okay, we'll work on it. And we get
• 36:14
Speaker 12: it wrong the first year. We get it wrong the
• 36:15
Speaker 12: first year. But tonight we're going to vote on additional
• 36:18
Speaker 12: funding for a very successful jobs program. Everything from parking REX,
• 36:23
Speaker 12: everything from HR everything from by the way, you want
• 36:26
Speaker 12: to get paid this summer. This is a paid jobs program.
• 36:31
Speaker 12: So and by the way, we'll pay for your lifeguarding
• 36:34
Speaker 12: certification because that's not cheap, Dave, And so we'll pay
• 36:37
Speaker 12: for that you want, you're interested in HR. We had
• 36:40
Speaker 12: an intern work in the Mayor's office last year and
• 36:43
Speaker 12: she loved it so much and I felt confident she's
• 36:45
Speaker 12: coming back. And she said, now I'm interested in planning
• 36:48
Speaker 12: because now I know what they do and I'd really
• 36:51
Speaker 12: like to And so we were a little disappointed in
• 36:53
Speaker 12: the Mayor's office because she was so wonderful. But that's
• 36:56
Speaker 12: the point of the job's program. She said, I understand
• 36:59
Speaker 12: now she's in college. I understand now that I like that,
• 37:04
Speaker 12: and I'm interested in that, and she may make a
• 37:06
Speaker 12: career out of this and being a city planner. And
• 37:10
Speaker 12: so that's what we really need to do. You know,
• 37:13
Speaker 12: we need to start really thinking about when we talk
• 37:15
Speaker 12: about jobs, investment and training or organizations. Which, by the way,
• 37:20
Speaker 12: it's not easy to have a jobs program. Let me
• 37:22
Speaker 12: be clear, it's not an easy thing to do, but
• 37:25
Speaker 12: it's an important thing to do for two reasons. Well,
• 37:29
Speaker 12: actually three, I'm going to get you a job this summer,
• 37:31
Speaker 12: and we're going to pay you. Right, I mean limited spaces.
• 37:33
  Speaker 12: I don't have a thousand spaces, but we're going to
• 37:35
Speaker 12: get your job. We're going to pay you. We are
• 37:37
Speaker 12: going to give you pride in your community. When you
• 37:41
Speaker 12: get engaged and involved, you if you're working at public
• 37:43
Speaker 12: grounds or you're working events, you have a better understanding
• 37:46
Speaker 12: of what's going on in your community. And so certainly
• 37:50
Speaker 12: it'll give you pride. But then it may spark that
• 37:52
Speaker 12: interest of oh wait, I see what this guy's doing
• 37:55
Speaker 12: over here. I may want to do what he's doing.
• 37:58
Speaker 12: Or as our intern always said, actually I thought it
• 38:01
Speaker 12: was this. Actually I don't want to do that. I
• 38:03
Speaker 12: want to do something else now. And so that is
• 38:07
Speaker 12: something that is a really big point of pride for us,
• 38:10
Speaker 12: is giving our kiddos a place in a space to
• 38:13
Speaker 12: go and feel valued.
• 38:15
Speaker 1: Got a phone call, Let's go talk to our friend Jim.
• 38:18
Speaker 1: You're you're on with the mayor.
• 38:19
Speaker 7: Go ahead, hello, Mayor?
• 38:22
  Speaker 9: Are you Jim?
• 38:23
Speaker 12: It's always such a pleasure to hear your voice, my friend.
• 38:27
Speaker 7: Well, I wanted to call and ask you. You were
• 38:29
Speaker 7: over here visiting not too long ago, and you shoid
• 38:34
Speaker 7: you would probably run one more time, Yes, sir, will
• 38:37
Speaker 7: this be and then May primary that this will be on?
• 38:42
Speaker 7: Or when does your time to forge?
• 38:45
Speaker 12: Yes, sir, it's it's the May primary. Primary is May twelfth.
• 38:50
Speaker 12: Early voting start to April twenty ninth. Yes, yes, yeah,
• 38:55
Speaker 12: one more time, Jim, one more time.
• 38:57
Speaker 7: All right, one more question that please if I could,
• 39:01
Speaker 7: I called the office a couple of times about trying
• 39:04
Speaker 7: to bring the via NBA to Charleston. I think it
• 39:09
Speaker 7: would tax the Civic Center and sell it out. And
• 39:14
Speaker 7: one of your opinion on it, and when was the
• 39:17
Speaker 7: last time that the New Civic Center sold out to
• 39:21
Speaker 7: a sporting of villa.
• 39:22
Speaker 12: Well, there are a couple, I'll say this to it
• 39:25
Speaker 12: so funny. David and I were talking before we got
• 39:27
Speaker 12: on the air about the Crown Tournament, and maybe we'll
• 39:30
Speaker 12: talk about it here in a second in the next segment.
• 39:31
Speaker 12: But listen, I think that what we do really really
• 39:36
Speaker 12: well in the city of Charleston, and especially with our
• 39:38
Speaker 12: partners at the CVB. We have an incredible, incredible team
• 39:41
Speaker 12: over there with Jama, Lauren and Rico and Leslie and
• 39:46
Speaker 12: Tim and just an incredible group of folks. We swing
• 39:50
Speaker 12: for the fences and so it's something that we're always
• 39:53
Speaker 12: looking to do. But as I told Dave, I went
• 39:57
Speaker 12: out to see the Crown Tournament and it is amazing
• 40:01
Speaker 12: and very reminiscent of by the way, the new seats
• 40:05
Speaker 12: at the Coliseuman Convention Center. How other facilities are managing
• 40:09
Speaker 12: these centers, what they can host, what they can hold.
• 40:12
Speaker 12: And I feel really good about that, niche Jim, that
• 40:16
Speaker 12: we're kind of settling into of being this sports and
• 40:19
Speaker 12: entertainment destination. Do I think we could do something like that? Boy,
• 40:23
Speaker 12: that would be That would be a big home run,
• 40:25
Speaker 12: wouldn't it it sure would.
• 40:29
Speaker 7: I appreciate you taking my call and Dave, and take
• 40:35
Speaker 7: care Mayor, and I'll be in touch.
• 40:37
Speaker 1: Thank you, Jim, Thank you Jim. Quick text here says
• 40:40
Speaker 1: Mayor a good one. The Department of Highways has announced
• 40:42
Speaker 1: the repair of several bridges in the Charleston area. Do
• 40:44
Speaker 1: you know if the Washington Street Bridge is included in
• 40:48
  Speaker 1: this group?
• 40:48
  Speaker 12: Yeah?
• 40:49
Speaker 1: If not. Do you know if any repair or painting
• 40:51
Speaker 1: is scheduled for the Washington Street Bridge?
• 40:53
  Speaker 13: Yeah?
• 40:53
Speaker 12: There are several all throughout the city. And this is
• 40:56
Speaker 12: what I will say to folks and Dave, if you
• 40:58
Speaker 12: don't mind, maybe we can do this the next week
• 41:00
Speaker 12: or two. Not only are we going to have so
• 41:03
Speaker 12: many repairs done to our bridges uh in our roads,
• 41:08
Speaker 12: but with our events that go on in the city
• 41:10
Speaker 12: of Charlestown. You know, listen, we let me back, let
• 41:13
Speaker 12: me back up very quickly.
• 41:14
  Speaker 2: We do.
• 41:17
Speaker 12: Kudos to the Department of Highways for working with us,
• 41:22
Speaker 12: because when you start steering traffic away from exits and
• 41:27
Speaker 12: off of bridges and then you shut a road down downtown,
• 41:30
Speaker 12: it is very, very frustrating. And I understand that the
• 41:34
Speaker 12: traffic has been a little bit problematic to say the least,
• 41:42
Speaker 12: But this is what happens when you are making progress,
• 41:45
Speaker 12: when you are paving roads and fixing bridges. This is
• 41:48
Speaker 12: this is what happens. So if you it would be
• 41:50
Speaker 12: a great opportunity for us. We meet weekly on it,
• 41:53
Speaker 12: and it'd be a great opportunity for us, Dave, if
• 41:55
Speaker 12: you allow us the opportunity to get on and talk
• 41:57
Speaker 12: about a lot of them, because it is it's pretty significant.
• 42:02
Speaker 12: And the good news is it's significant because there are
• 42:03
Speaker 12: a lot of dollars that are being invested in infrastructure
• 42:08
Speaker 12: and crumbling infrastructure, not only just in the capital city
• 42:11
Speaker 12: but all over the state of West Virginia. You know,
• 42:14
Speaker 12: I have the pleasure of working with so many mayors.
• 42:16
Speaker 12: This is the year that many of us are, you know,
• 42:19
Speaker 12: putting our money where our mouth is by the way,
• 42:22
Speaker 12: it's also something we're going to be talking about in
• 42:24
Speaker 12: the weeks to come in the City of Charleston. This
• 42:27
Speaker 12: is the largest paving cycle we will have in my
• 42:32
Speaker 12: memory in the City of Charleston because we need it.
• 42:35
Speaker 12: We really really needed our sidewalks, our roadways. They need
• 42:38
Speaker 12: to have those critical infrastructure dollars put back in.

• 46:16
Speaker 12: number two. Uh, it'll be brought before a council here
• 46:19
Speaker 12: before too long. So in the next couple of weeks
• 46:21
Speaker 12: you'll have a list and you will know and oh,
• 46:24
Speaker 12: by the way, we engage our council members when we
• 46:27
Speaker 12: do this list, and of course our Engineering department streets
• 46:30
Speaker 12: and traffic, just to look at what are the roads
• 46:33
Speaker 12: that need to be done, and what are the crosswalks
• 46:36
Speaker 12: that we need to take care of, and also keeping
• 46:39
Speaker 12: in mind that a lot of the sidewalks just had
• 46:41
Speaker 12: this come up. Two weeks ago. When I was walking
• 46:44
Speaker 12: a door to door on the West side, someone said,
• 46:46
Speaker 12: when are you gonna this sidewalk needs done right here
• 46:48
Speaker 12: in front of my home. It's the it's the homeowner's responsibility, however,
• 46:53
Speaker 12: especially if it's in a crosswalk area, and so you know,

  Speaker 16: Hey?

Speaker 12: on the re you know, revitalizing the riverfront. It's a
• 47:41
Speaker 12: twenty seven million dollar project. We were waiting on plans
• 47:44
Speaker 12: and questions and answers. We have to work with Federal
• 47:47
Speaker 12: Highway Administration, we have to work the State of West Virginia.
• 47:49
Speaker 12: They've been amazing partners, and so that back and forth continues,
• 47:53
Speaker 12: and we hope to break ground soon. By the way,
• 47:55
Speaker 12: just because you get the money and you say, okay,
• 47:57
Speaker 12: let's do it. You know, big, big project take time.
• 48:01
Speaker 12: Little projects sometimes don't take that much time. Sometimes, by
• 48:04
Speaker 12: the way, little projects do take time. In terms of

Speaker 12: have the largest paving cycle we've had, certainly in my tenure,
• 48:41
  Speaker 12: and I can't remember a time we've spent five million
• 48:43
Speaker 12: dollars on it. But with that comes, you know, shutting
• 48:48
Speaker 12: down lanes and shutting down roads. It's very difficult to
• 48:51
Speaker 12: get down Virginia Street right now, and people are very frustrated.
• 48:54
Speaker 12: But I will just say progress sometimes is sticky, and
