Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Nationwide Alfresco fiasco. Queenstown now the latest city to be
- 0:05Speaker 1: hit by this issue. Hospitality business, the hotels are in
- 0:09Speaker 1: z that their outdoor dining fees are going up fifteen
- 0:12Speaker 1: hundred percent. One business used to pay an annual cost
- 0:16Speaker 1: of three thousand dollars to the council. That's now going
- 0:18Speaker 1: to go up to more than fifty thousand dollars. Apparently
- 0:23Speaker 1: they're charging a percentage of the indoor rent. Totong has
- 0:26Speaker 1: been having issues and Veronica di Olivera is the Black
- 0:30Speaker 1: Orchid Collective cafe owner and she's with me this morning.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Good morning, good morning.
- 0:36Speaker 1: How are you very well? Thanks Veronica. How much are
- 0:38Speaker 1: you paying where you are?
- 0:41Speaker 2: Well, well, I'm not paying yet, but it would probably
- 0:45Speaker 2: be paying over one thousand dollars for like little three
- 0:49Speaker 2: tables they have in front of my business at the moment.
- 0:52Speaker 2: So it's just quite a beat just for their space
- 0:56Speaker 2: I'm using.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Actually, and this is because at the moment you're paying,
- 1:00Speaker 1: I think because you haven't needed a license they're introducing.
- 1:02Speaker 1: The licenses end up coming with a fee exactly.
- 1:07Speaker 2: So they have decided last July all the business downtown
- 1:12Speaker 2: a Mount will have to pay feats out. So it's
- 1:14Speaker 2: about one hundred and fifty dollars staty square meter, but's
- 1:18Speaker 2: a five hundred dollars administration feeds. I'm not very sure
- 1:23Speaker 2: what is it about. But yeah, so for the space
- 1:27Speaker 2: that I have now, I would be saying at least
- 1:30Speaker 2: like five square meters.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Right, can you describe the space for us? Is it
- 1:36Speaker 1: on the footpath or.
- 1:38Speaker 2: It's on the footpaths? Yeah? Yeah, you off my cafe.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Do your tables block the footpath or anyone, you know,
- 1:46Speaker 1: if you're disabled or the elderly or.
- 1:50Speaker 2: No, definitely not. It's actually like rules frame, so all
- 1:55Speaker 2: the business amount or probably in New Zealand have to
- 1:59Speaker 2: follow all the rules. Like it's like I don't know
- 2:02Speaker 2: how many meters, but that is a space that you
- 2:06Speaker 2: need to leave for the people to pass. So I
- 2:11Speaker 2: understand the fact that they want to control a little
- 2:13Speaker 2: bit because the summer time is quite busy and you
- 2:16Speaker 2: cut really pass. But it's the only time of the
- 2:19Speaker 2: year that we actually is very busy. That's the time
- 2:23Speaker 2: that we actually make money. You know, the city is busy.
- 2:29Speaker 2: So it's like the style of the mount is the
- 2:32Speaker 2: soul of the mount, and this what's happening now. I
- 2:35Speaker 2: believe a lot of people will rebel against and we're
- 2:38Speaker 2: going to lose a few of these little tables outside
- 2:41Speaker 2: and we'll just you know, make the city quieter.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Yeah, it's nice to have people outside and it does
- 2:47Speaker 1: make the city look busy. As you say, Veronica, thank
- 2:49Speaker 1: you very much for joining us. Veronica de Olivera. She's
- 2:53Speaker 1: the Black Awkward Collective Cafe and toto Ona and she's
- 2:56Speaker 1: going to be paying one thousand dollars a year for
- 2:58Speaker 1: three tables on the footpath. For more Familier Edition with
