- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to the Overland Journal podcast. I'm your host,
- 0:04Speaker 1: Ashley Jordana, and today I am with two very special guests,
- 0:08Speaker 1: Josh and Vanessa from Dustin for a while.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Yes, yay.
- 0:13Speaker 1: So I'm really excited because we're in my hometown today
- 0:17Speaker 1: recording this podcast, and you guys just happened to be
- 0:20Speaker 1: from beautiful British Columbia, Canada as well. Yeah, it's always
- 0:25Speaker 1: fun to chat with some Canadians about overlanding the world.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Yes, it's funny because our house is actually thirty minutes
- 0:31Speaker 3: from your house.
- 0:32Speaker 4: Yeah, just very weird.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Yeah, it's super fun though to chat with you guys
- 0:37Speaker 1: about that, because I don't really get a chance to
- 0:40Speaker 1: talk it to Canadians that often about overlanding.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Honestly, handful of Canadians I think too, not very many,
- 0:49Speaker 2: very many, nice, I know.
- 0:53Speaker 1: So tell us a little bit about the trip you
- 0:55Speaker 1: just got back a few months ago, Yes, from a
- 0:59Speaker 1: big trip. Tell us where you went and what vehicle
- 1:02Speaker 1: did you take.
- 1:03Speaker 3: So we just finished the Pan American Highway. So we
- 1:06Speaker 3: started off in BC, Canada and went south. We finished
- 1:13Speaker 3: probably I think about two months ago, but we drove
- 1:15Speaker 3: our nineteen ninety four eighty series land Cruiser.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Yeah, awesome. Yeah, in the nineties Toyota, Yes, the best. Awesome.
- 1:25Speaker 1: So how did you decide that you wanted to do
- 1:28Speaker 1: this Panamerican drip?
- 1:30Speaker 3: Well, honestly, I followed you guys on Instagram when you
- 1:33Speaker 3: did it. Sorry, this is really cool. So I started
- 1:38Speaker 3: to want to do it after you guys had finished,
- 1:40Speaker 3: And then I had been thinking about for years, and
- 1:43Speaker 3: then Vanessa and I got together. Yeah, and I'd always
- 1:45Speaker 3: talked about us just doing this trip, and we had
- 1:47Speaker 3: talked about someday, let's do this, someday, let's do this,
- 1:50Speaker 3: and we kind of hit a point where like, when
- 1:52Speaker 3: is someday? So we just kind of figured where we
- 1:55Speaker 3: were young and healthy, we are young and healthy, why
- 1:58Speaker 3: not just kind of go Yeah, so we just kind
- 2:01Speaker 3: of did it.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Yeah, It's one of those things we had thought about
- 2:04Speaker 3: for a really long time. But the only thing holding
- 2:06Speaker 3: us back was really us And.
- 2:09Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, we didn't want to wait until like we're old,
- 2:12Speaker 5: retired and don't want to sit in a car for
- 2:13Speaker 5: like hours on end each day driving.
- 2:15Speaker 2: So really, when we do it now, when we don't
- 2:17Speaker 2: have kids.
- 2:18Speaker 5: Or a house or anything like that, this is holding
- 2:20Speaker 5: us back, so we're like clo' let's go exactly.
- 2:22Speaker 3: Yeah, because most people always send a lot the wait
- 2:24Speaker 3: till their retirement to go actually start living life and
- 2:26Speaker 3: do stuff, but kind of have like life isn't promised,
- 2:31Speaker 3: never guaranteed tomorrow, so why not go and just live
- 2:34Speaker 3: life now?
- 2:35Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, I love it.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Yeah, when or were what were the things that you
- 2:42Speaker 1: had to put in order to be able to go
- 2:45Speaker 1: in terms of preparation.
- 2:47Speaker 3: So there's quite a bit. So we had talked about it's,
- 2:50Speaker 3: like I said, for quite a while, but we didn't
- 2:52Speaker 3: really have a date on when we were going to
- 2:54Speaker 3: go or how we're.
- 2:54Speaker 4: Going to do it or any of that.
- 2:55Speaker 5: Yeah, we're talking about for like the last like probably
- 2:58Speaker 5: five is years seriously about doing it.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:00Speaker 3: And then at the time we had like a Mitchumsi,
- 3:03Speaker 3: Delica and had kay I talked about, oh, this is
- 3:07Speaker 3: like perfect, this is great, and then after realizing how
- 3:09Speaker 3: complicated it was to fix things with being a right hand.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Drive and being a Japanese important.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Imported, we're just kind of like, know what, this is
- 3:17Speaker 3: just a lot of extra complications with getting parts getting
- 3:19Speaker 3: a fixed right hand.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Drive as well, because right hand drive you can't get
- 3:23Speaker 1: into Nicaraga.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Nicaraga Coasta Rica and someone told me apparently Panama.
- 3:28Speaker 5: I think Panama has some rules with it too. I
- 3:31Speaker 5: don't know if it's as strict as Coastreaka and Nicaraga,
- 3:33Speaker 5: but yeah, you can't enter the border with the right
- 3:35Speaker 5: hand drive're block.
- 3:37Speaker 3: So basically after finding that out, we're like, okay, shoot,
- 3:39Speaker 3: we need to figure something else out.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:41Speaker 3: So we had thrown around the idea a lot of
- 3:44Speaker 3: what we were wanting to take, and we had seen
- 3:48Speaker 3: basically people have done it in literally everything at this point,
- 3:50Speaker 3: so we're kind of like, how crazy do we go
- 3:53Speaker 3: with this? Because it's more important to actually traveled and
- 3:57Speaker 3: have like the perfect.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Vehicle to do it in whatever.
- 3:59Speaker 1: The vehicle is a mythical creature.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Exactly, because again I'm sure, like you guys know, we've
- 4:06Speaker 3: met people who've done it in like a Honda Civic
- 4:09Speaker 3: and people who've done it in multimillion dollar brigs, and
- 4:13Speaker 3: all of them have things they like and don't like
- 4:15Speaker 3: about their vehicle. So you can kind of you don't
- 4:18Speaker 3: need to have anything special. You can really just take
- 4:19Speaker 3: whatever and go for it.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Yeah, whatever works for you exactly.
- 4:22Speaker 3: So it's kind of just trying to figure out, Okay,
- 4:24Speaker 3: what are we doing, how are doing this, the logistics
- 4:26Speaker 3: of it, how much would this cost, how long we
- 4:29Speaker 3: could actually take to do this. Yeah, basically like subletting
- 4:34Speaker 3: our house out, our jobs, allowing us to go do this. Yeah,
- 4:38Speaker 3: getting a vehicle to actually go and do this because
- 4:41Speaker 3: at the time we didn't really have a good car
- 4:43Speaker 3: to actually challenge.
- 4:44Speaker 5: Yeah, we like said note taking the van. So we're
- 4:48Speaker 5: back the drawing board for something. And we had all
- 4:50Speaker 5: the ideas like what to pick up with the camp
- 4:52Speaker 5: on the back, or what a van or something like that.
- 4:54Speaker 5: So we researched for a whole long time looking.
- 4:58Speaker 3: Looked into I spent way too much time I'm researching this,
- 5:01Speaker 3: So looked into vans, trucks, SUVs, small cars, different builds
- 5:07Speaker 3: you could do on everything, and kind of got honestly
- 5:11Speaker 3: really overwhelmed, and I was like, well, what's perfect? And
- 5:13Speaker 3: then kind of hit a point where really it doesn't
- 5:15Speaker 3: need to be perfect. So we're like, okay, well, what
- 5:18Speaker 3: are things that were important to us? And I wanted
- 5:20Speaker 3: things to be to be reliable. I wanted it to
- 5:23Speaker 3: be easy to get parts for it, easy to fix,
- 5:26Speaker 3: and I wanted to be comfortable, and I didn't want
- 5:29Speaker 3: it to be like super big and flashy.
- 5:32Speaker 4: We would cause a lot of attention.
- 5:33Speaker 2: And is able to go where we want to go
- 5:35Speaker 2: to yes, and be capable.
- 5:36Speaker 3: Of going everywhere that we wanted to be able to go,
- 5:38Speaker 3: so the vehicle will never hold us back. So kind
- 5:40Speaker 3: of just started looking around things, looking at the drying
- 5:44Speaker 3: board and kind of figured Toto checked a lot of
- 5:46Speaker 3: those boxes. So we figured Toto didn't really know what
- 5:49Speaker 3: we were wanting with that, and then we went from
- 5:52Speaker 3: I think at the time I actually owned an old Tacoma,
- 5:55Speaker 3: but there's some issues with that. Looked into foreigners, bought
- 5:58Speaker 3: a four owner got to the foreigner it was the
- 6:01Speaker 3: dream had always been Lane Cruiser, could always been my
- 6:04Speaker 3: dream vehicle, but it seemed kind of unattainable.
- 6:06Speaker 5: They're so hard to find in Canada, especially be seen
- 6:09Speaker 5: like they're always way overpriced.
- 6:10Speaker 3: And ones that aren't right hand drive. There's a lot
- 6:12Speaker 3: of ones in Canada are JDM. Yeah, So I had
- 6:15Speaker 3: been looking around for a while and just kind of
- 6:17Speaker 3: had that one off because I didn't think it was attainable.
- 6:20Speaker 3: And then one came up for sale in Kelowna, and
- 6:22Speaker 3: we were like, oh, let's.
- 6:24Speaker 4: Go check this out.
- 6:25Speaker 3: So it took a couple of days, drove out and
- 6:28Speaker 3: went and looked at it, got inspected, and kind of
- 6:31Speaker 3: just figured why not give it a shot, pull the
- 6:33Speaker 3: trigger on it, and here we are now.
- 6:35Speaker 5: Well we also land on this specific lane cruiser because
- 6:38Speaker 5: we were also inspired by another couple that did this trip,
- 6:41Speaker 5: Sunrise Kelse.
- 6:43Speaker 2: We really loved Goose.
- 6:44Speaker 3: Yeah, because they had any there was a ninety five
- 6:47Speaker 3: I believe, but had a camp det conversion. Yeah, and
- 6:49Speaker 3: after seeing that, I've really liked the idea of that,
- 6:52Speaker 3: simply the fact that you could have like the camper
- 6:54Speaker 3: built into the vehicles you would have to get in
- 6:55Speaker 3: and out.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Yeah, and it was still lower profile.
- 6:59Speaker 3: It's relatively but it was funny because I think on
- 7:02Speaker 3: through one of the forms or something, I saw that
- 7:05Speaker 3: they were no longer.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Making them Oh yeah camp text yeah, yeah yeah.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Or they said the camp Tech conversion. So yeah, that's
- 7:10Speaker 3: kind of shoot, how's this going to work?
- 7:11Speaker 4: Like, how do we find this?
- 7:12Speaker 3: He had looked around trying to find used ones, couldn't
- 7:15Speaker 3: really figure it out, and I did the crazy thing
- 7:17Speaker 3: of emailing the company.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Yeah, he reached out to the owner of camp Tech.
- 7:22Speaker 3: And they are still making them, yeah, but he had
- 7:24Speaker 3: just stopped for a couple of years, and then people
- 7:26Speaker 3: just took that as like that's the truth and just
- 7:29Speaker 3: ran with that.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Right.
- 7:30Speaker 3: So called him and he's like, no, I can definitely
- 7:32Speaker 3: do that for you, guys. So we drove down to
- 7:34Speaker 3: Colorado and bought the roof, got the roof installed, yeah,
- 7:37Speaker 3: and then basically just built the truck up from there.
- 7:39Speaker 3: So we basically bought the truck completely stock and slowly
- 7:42Speaker 3: built it into our little house on wheels.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:45Speaker 1: I guess that's the thing is you get overwhelmed because
- 7:48Speaker 1: they are all these options and all of these choices,
- 7:52Speaker 1: and any of them could potentially work, but it's like
- 7:55Speaker 1: are they is this the right choice for you? And
- 7:57Speaker 1: also is it available?
- 7:59Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 7:59Speaker 1: See, land cruisers are really they're not that easy to
- 8:03Speaker 1: find you. Yeah, so you can you're almost like I
- 8:06Speaker 1: kind of think of this as trying to buy clothes sometimes.
- 8:10Speaker 1: You're you know, maybe you're if you're into flipping through
- 8:13Speaker 1: magazines looking at clothes. You're like, yeah, this seems like
- 8:16Speaker 1: the perfect jacket or whatever. But then you go to
- 8:20Speaker 1: the store and you can actually find that jacket in
- 8:22Speaker 1: your size. You have to actually find something that's in
- 8:25Speaker 1: your size that fits well, it's going to do what
- 8:27Speaker 1: you need and it looks good.
- 8:28Speaker 4: Yeah, you want it to fit.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 8:31Speaker 3: It has to be right all these ways, right, And
- 8:33Speaker 3: that's the thing is, well, I feel it's kind of silly.
- 8:36Speaker 3: It might just be me, but I feel everyone's gotten
- 8:38Speaker 3: into it at some point that doesn't feel right. Yeah,
- 8:40Speaker 3: like I'm just don't have enough room. A big think
- 8:43Speaker 3: for me is cup holders.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Oh, the cup holders are very lots of cup holders
- 8:48Speaker 2: for as many drinks.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Especially in toyotas. You have to have the proper size
- 8:51Speaker 1: of cupholder.
- 8:52Speaker 2: But don't come with the holders.
- 8:54Speaker 3: Yeah, that was the one design flot of toyotas. I
- 8:56Speaker 3: will say, I'm standing by that. But you can add
- 8:58Speaker 3: them and we have I think now we have six. Yeah,
- 9:02Speaker 3: if six or eight couple dars in our trug, it's
- 9:04Speaker 3: insane and it's just the best.
- 9:06Speaker 4: So you can always get them.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Yeah, just finding what fits you well and works for
- 9:10Speaker 3: the purpose that you're wanting. Like a big thing for
- 9:12Speaker 3: me is always not even just for like an overland vehicle,
- 9:14Speaker 3: but just always have a vehicle that can allow you
- 9:16Speaker 3: to live the life that you want to live, whether
- 9:18Speaker 3: it's just if you're just driving tune from work, or
- 9:19Speaker 3: if you're going to ski hills or if you'd like
- 9:22Speaker 3: to go off roading or whatever. Just I never want
- 9:25Speaker 3: my vehicle to hold me back from doing what I
- 9:26Speaker 3: want to do. So we kind of figure like, well,
- 9:29Speaker 3: this check's pretty much every box, so why.
- 9:31Speaker 4: Not try it out?
- 9:32Speaker 1: What were the boxes for you? Did you want it
- 9:34Speaker 1: to be able to take you on more technical trails
- 9:39Speaker 1: or did you want it to be able to take
- 9:41Speaker 1: you to be camping somewhere comfortably or what were the
- 9:46Speaker 1: I'll say we were there requirements were the vehicle that
- 9:49Speaker 1: you wanted.
- 9:50Speaker 3: That's what was kind of tricky because I'll say broadly
- 9:53Speaker 3: yes to all those questions.
- 9:55Speaker 5: Yes, yeah, we're not huge technical trail off road or so,
- 9:58Speaker 5: but like we like to to do it then.
- 10:00Speaker 3: But we didn't know what we wanted it to be
- 10:02Speaker 3: able to do. We did want it to hold us
- 10:04Speaker 3: back because we had no idea what to expect. So
- 10:07Speaker 3: I wanted to be able to basically get anywhere and everywhere.
- 10:10Speaker 4: Yeah, so our.
- 10:11Speaker 3: Truck it's only central locked, it doesn't have it's not
- 10:13Speaker 3: triple locked like some eighties are, And honestly, I thought
- 10:16Speaker 3: that was perfectly fine. Before we left, I was like, man,
- 10:19Speaker 3: I have to add a bokers, you have to do this.
- 10:22Speaker 3: It's totally okay, perfectly fine. But we wanted to be
- 10:25Speaker 3: able to like have what we wanted, wanted to be
- 10:27Speaker 3: able to sleep comfortably. We wanted basically have everything that
- 10:30Speaker 3: we needed just with us and not overthink it.
- 10:34Speaker 4: So our build was.
- 10:35Speaker 3: Like very simple, Like we didn't have like internal water tanks,
- 10:38Speaker 3: didn't have hot water, we didn't have really like no
- 10:42Speaker 3: no bathroom. We didn't really have like any like luxuries,
- 10:45Speaker 3: I'll say. But it was kind of funny is when
- 10:47Speaker 3: we were leaving a lot of people, Oh, how would
- 10:49Speaker 3: you get by with them having a bathroom or shower
- 10:52Speaker 3: running water or whatever. And it honestly wasn't that bad.
- 10:55Speaker 3: It like we made it work the entire time. We
- 10:57Speaker 3: never really had any problems trying to find you have anything.
- 11:01Speaker 2: You might have smelt that a lot more.
- 11:02Speaker 3: Yeah, But we basically just wanted the vehicle to be
- 11:06Speaker 3: able to carry what we wanted, get to where we wanted,
- 11:09Speaker 3: and be able to do what we wanted. And the
- 11:10Speaker 3: biggest thing was I just wanted reliability because I just
- 11:13Speaker 3: didn't want to break down in the middle of somewhere
- 11:16Speaker 3: and not be able to fix it. So like a
- 11:18Speaker 3: big requirement for me is like I looked up what
- 11:20Speaker 3: vehicles are basically everywhere in the world, What vehicles can
- 11:24Speaker 3: you get parts for everywhere in the world. What are
- 11:27Speaker 3: some of the most reliable vehicles ever made? And what
- 11:30Speaker 3: are some the most durable vehicles ever made? And basically,
- 11:33Speaker 3: like a quote that I heard that I liked was,
- 11:36Speaker 3: what does United Nations, the Taliban, and the Diamond Minds
- 11:40Speaker 3: in Africa have in common? It's that they all drive
- 11:42Speaker 3: land cruisers because they don't break. So I took that
- 11:45Speaker 3: as a pretty good indication. That's a good idea, So
- 11:49Speaker 3: we kind of just went with it. We knew nothing
- 11:51Speaker 3: about land cruisers before buying it and just kind of
- 11:54Speaker 3: figured we'd figured out and I definitely know way more than.
- 11:57Speaker 4: I need to know about them at this point.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Yeah that's great. Yeah, that's great In terms of the vehicle,
- 12:05Speaker 1: how did it end up performing? Because you said reliability,
- 12:09Speaker 1: you could get parts everywhere, and that was the intent
- 12:11Speaker 1: behind the vehicle choice. Yeah, when you actually hit the road,
- 12:15Speaker 1: did that ring true?
- 12:16Speaker 3: It did for the most part. So there was a
- 12:20Speaker 3: few things that definitely could have been better. We only
- 12:22Speaker 3: had one major breakdown on our entire trip, which very thankful.
- 12:26Speaker 2: For, and it was like right at the beginning, like
- 12:28Speaker 2: we're in Mexico when it happened.
- 12:29Speaker 4: I think we weren't even two weeks into our trip.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Yeah, we're like, oh no, it's over, We're done.
- 12:33Speaker 3: Or this is where I still don't know why this
- 12:35Speaker 3: happened because I changed everything before we left, but one
- 12:38Speaker 3: of our U joints exploded on the freeway going like
- 12:41Speaker 3: one hundred and twenty kilometers an hour, and then the
- 12:43Speaker 3: drive shaft basically just shot well punched a hole through
- 12:47Speaker 3: the floor of the truck. It punched a huge dent
- 12:50Speaker 3: in the frame. It cracked our transmission bell housing and
- 12:55Speaker 3: broke a bunch of other stuff. So we basically lost
- 12:57Speaker 3: all our transmission flood on the side of the highway
- 13:00Speaker 3: and it just sucked. We were able to get it
- 13:03Speaker 3: patched in Mexico, surprisingly with JB. Weld, which was surprising.
- 13:06Speaker 3: That works the entire time.
- 13:08Speaker 2: JBI Weld held on the whole trip too.
- 13:10Speaker 3: The one thing that was ironic as well in this
- 13:12Speaker 3: one little section of Mexico where we broke down. Apparently
- 13:16Speaker 3: that's the one area that doesn't have line cruisers.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Yeah, so wow. Ironically there was not parts for us, No.
- 13:23Speaker 3: So they had we got helped out a ton, Like
- 13:25Speaker 3: the shop that we went to, they knew a guy
- 13:28Speaker 3: in a city over that had some parts. We had
- 13:30Speaker 3: people like on Instagram and stuff reaching out that we're
- 13:32Speaker 3: going to like like create us a transmission, all this
- 13:35Speaker 3: stuff so nice. A lot of people just reached out
- 13:37Speaker 3: were willing to help. Yeah, thankfully they were able to
- 13:39Speaker 3: kind of pass the transmission and just make it work
- 13:41Speaker 3: and it held the entire trip. Like we literally didn't
- 13:44Speaker 3: lose any fluid the entire time, which was shocking, very shocking.
- 13:48Speaker 3: We're changing now that we're home camera, but very surprised
- 13:52Speaker 3: with that. Other than that, like we went through breaks
- 13:54Speaker 3: and like normal wearing tear parts.
- 13:56Speaker 5: But I think that's because we overlooked how heavy our
- 13:58Speaker 5: interior build was, so that definitely made us go through
- 14:02Speaker 5: breaks more and probably did a lot more stress on
- 14:04Speaker 5: the vehicle itself.
- 14:05Speaker 3: We didn't think very much about how heavy our truck
- 14:09Speaker 3: was and then how much weight we added to our truck, right,
- 14:12Speaker 3: So we definitely were pushing that line quite a bit,
- 14:15Speaker 3: so we went through breaks faster than most, so that's
- 14:17Speaker 3: something that we're upgrading and changing.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Now mm hmm.
- 14:20Speaker 3: And like we're lightening our trucks and we're lightning our
- 14:21Speaker 3: truck because that was besides the transmission and the brakes.
- 14:25Speaker 3: The other thing we had to do is like we
- 14:26Speaker 3: had to get our power steering pump rebuilt. We had
- 14:29Speaker 3: our startter rebuilt, and part of our frame cracked around
- 14:32Speaker 3: where steering box was. That's apparently really common problem with
- 14:35Speaker 3: any series. So we got that fixed. But other than that,
- 14:39Speaker 3: it did fantastic.
- 14:40Speaker 4: It's awful. One gas oh.
- 14:42Speaker 6: Yeah, right, so it was pretty crazy on field, but
- 14:47Speaker 6: we did our entire trip and honestly never really had
- 14:50Speaker 6: anything that was a major concern besides that one breakdown
- 14:53Speaker 6: and just trusted the entire time and it would fully
- 14:55Speaker 6: do it again.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Oh yeah, just kept going.
- 14:57Speaker 1: It was great.
- 14:58Speaker 3: So it did fantastic up until actually now that I'm thinking,
- 15:01Speaker 3: up until the end of our trip. By the last
- 15:03Speaker 3: month around the road, it started burning a lot of oil. Yeah,
- 15:06Speaker 3: struggling a bit. It's okay, well, we were kind of
- 15:09Speaker 3: finishing off the trip, but getting it back to Canada,
- 15:12Speaker 3: it was it was hurting by the time to get Yeah,
- 15:15Speaker 3: so that was fun though, Yeah, but fully trusted it
- 15:17Speaker 3: would do it again for sure.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Amazing, that's awesome. Yeah, it does by the end get
- 15:24Speaker 1: a bit worn.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:27Speaker 1: And you guys were run for nine months. Yeah right,
- 15:30Speaker 1: And yeah it's a lot daily use. You're living out
- 15:33Speaker 1: of the vehicle and driving road conditions you wouldn't normally
- 15:38Speaker 1: be driving on the way to work or from work.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Yeah. Sure then once, yeah exactly.
- 15:47Speaker 1: So when you broke down that that day you were
- 15:51Speaker 1: in Mexico and it was getting dark and you'd pull
- 15:54Speaker 1: over on the side of the road, and Vanessa was
- 15:58Speaker 1: sick at the time pisoning.
- 16:00Speaker 2: I don't know how I got food poisoning, but I did.
- 16:05Speaker 3: I could have gone wrong that day, did go wrong. Yeah,
- 16:08Speaker 3: when we first started our trip, or like, kayn't be
- 16:10Speaker 3: anywhere at any time, this is gonna be fine. And
- 16:14Speaker 3: one of our friends was like, yeah, we'll come meet
- 16:16Speaker 3: you guys in Mexico. Cool, that will be great. And
- 16:20Speaker 3: then we had started they told us where they had
- 16:22Speaker 3: booked their tickets too, and it was the complete bottom
- 16:25Speaker 3: end of Mexico. Like, oyeah, we'll be there in two weeks.
- 16:29Speaker 1: This always happened every time. We were always talking to
- 16:33Speaker 1: travelers and you know, the joy and the wonderful you know,
- 16:37Speaker 1: thank you so much for coming to visit, or we're
- 16:39Speaker 1: so grateful to have family or friends that come in. Yeah,
- 16:43Speaker 1: but it's always somewhere super far away. Yeah, and you
- 16:46Speaker 1: know you're pushing the schedule and long driving days to
- 16:49Speaker 1: be able to make it.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Yeah, it's always that figures into the equation.
- 16:54Speaker 3: So that's exactly what happened is we just felt like
- 16:56Speaker 3: we were like in a huge rush.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Immediately it was like blast. It's really so like.
- 17:00Speaker 3: Blasting through Mexico, and like little things that were like, oh,
- 17:03Speaker 3: like could we stop to like maybe deal with this,
- 17:05Speaker 3: Like literally when that you joint exploded, I remember things.
- 17:09Speaker 3: Oh okay, next time I'll stop and look to see
- 17:12Speaker 3: what that noise is.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Yeah, we start hearing a noise and really exploded and it.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Was too late. Yeah, but it was It was just
- 17:18Speaker 3: very chaotic because like we literally we broke down it
- 17:20Speaker 3: probably eleven o'clock in the morning, So pull over the
- 17:23Speaker 3: side of the highway, got it off into the corner
- 17:25Speaker 3: a little bit and then call mechanic or sorry, called
- 17:30Speaker 3: there's a program in Mexico called Green Angels.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like a tourism helpline kind of thing.
- 17:36Speaker 3: Yeah, So we got told to call them, so we
- 17:37Speaker 3: called them and they're, yeah, we'll send the mechanic to you.
- 17:40Speaker 3: Don't worry about it, like somebody will be there in
- 17:42Speaker 3: like thirty minutes. Yeah, like okay, cool, this is great.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Where in Mexico was there?
- 17:46Speaker 5: This was roughly it was like twenty minutes ouside of Guadalajara,
- 17:50Speaker 5: Yeah right, yeah, yeah.
- 17:51Speaker 3: Because we well, initially we were going down the coast.
- 17:53Speaker 3: We're playing on doing the coast the whole way. Yeah,
- 17:56Speaker 3: that time of the year was when all that like
- 17:58Speaker 3: heavy stuff was going on off the cartel stuff. They
- 18:00Speaker 3: had actually had a road block and blocked off the
- 18:02Speaker 3: coastal highway, so we had to go back and around
- 18:05Speaker 3: and go up around Mexico City. Yeah, so that's why
- 18:08Speaker 3: we were near goad To Ohio when we broke down.
- 18:10Speaker 3: So where it got funny is call this guy. He said, yeah,
- 18:13Speaker 3: we're sending somebody, don't worry about it. Blah blah blah
- 18:16Speaker 3: blah blah. Like hour goes by, there's still nothing. We're
- 18:19Speaker 3: sitting there. Vanessa is still sick. She's going to get
- 18:22Speaker 3: sick in the bathroom or not in the bathroom. The
- 18:25Speaker 3: bushes like every fifteen minutes. Then a random guy just
- 18:30Speaker 3: walks up to us, this is in the middle of
- 18:32Speaker 3: nowhere and starts like asking what's going on. So like
- 18:36Speaker 3: I'm talking to him like he has broken English, I
- 18:38Speaker 3: have very broken Spanish.
- 18:39Speaker 4: We're trying to figure it out.
- 18:41Speaker 3: Yeah, and I'm asking him like, oh, you're part of
- 18:43Speaker 3: like the Liqureen Angels whatever. He just kept saying no,
- 18:46Speaker 3: So I was, oh, okay, and then he calls. He's, oh,
- 18:48Speaker 3: call a buddy talking to his friend. His friend spoke English,
- 18:52Speaker 3: and he's, oh, yeah, I can be there in like
- 18:53Speaker 3: ten minutes to tell you.
- 18:55Speaker 4: And I was like, oh, like we have a tow.
- 18:56Speaker 3: Trup coming already, like like it's okay, like someone's coming. Yeah,
- 19:00Speaker 3: so okay. That guy just walks away and leaves. Yeah,
- 19:04Speaker 3: this is probably about noon. Fast forward now it's probably
- 19:10Speaker 3: nine o'clock at night. There's still nobody. He's tried to
- 19:13Speaker 3: call multiple times, but the call keeps getting like the
- 19:16Speaker 3: answer and then we just hung up right away.
- 19:17Speaker 5: Yeah, we kept trying to recall Green Angel so see
- 19:20Speaker 5: what was going on. And then yeah, they kept hanging
- 19:22Speaker 5: up on us. I don't know why.
- 19:23Speaker 3: It was going to like a different number or something.
- 19:25Speaker 1: It was very weird and it was hacktic. I watched
- 19:27Speaker 1: your video, your YouTube video on this and it's not
- 19:31Speaker 1: like you're you're not like pulled over in this night
- 19:35Speaker 1: quiet area. You're on the side of a highway and
- 19:37Speaker 1: they're all these trucks, you know, going by.
- 19:39Speaker 2: It's getting dark.
- 19:41Speaker 3: Oh yeah, there was like at some points there was
- 19:43Speaker 3: like inchest between us and Cardio fla highway. It was
- 19:45Speaker 3: not fun. Yeah, And where it got silly though, is
- 19:49Speaker 3: then probably about like eight or nine o'clock at night,
- 19:52Speaker 3: we get a phone call and it's from the guy
- 19:54Speaker 3: we had talked to at eleven in the morning from
- 19:56Speaker 3: the Green Angels company.
- 19:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:57Speaker 3: He's like, oh, like you're like, you haven't got picked up,
- 20:01Speaker 3: and we're like, no, no, oh yeah, we send somebody.
- 20:03Speaker 3: He told us that you sent them away, Like he
- 20:05Speaker 3: didn't tell us he was with you, tell us that
- 20:07Speaker 3: we were with you. Like we asked if he's a
- 20:08Speaker 3: part of your company. He said no, and so he said,
- 20:11Speaker 3: oh yeah, okay, we'll send somebody else.
- 20:14Speaker 4: So again we're.
- 20:15Speaker 3: Like okay, and then ten o'clock at night. A guy
- 20:20Speaker 3: shows up in a pickup truck with a chain and
- 20:25Speaker 3: he looked at me first and said, I don't understand
- 20:27Speaker 3: why you can't drive, and then I was like there's
- 20:30Speaker 3: a hole in our transmission.
- 20:31Speaker 4: Then he looked as like okay, I guess that makes sense.
- 20:34Speaker 3: But he told us down the highway with a chain,
- 20:37Speaker 3: it's pitch blockout. And the way he would tell us
- 20:39Speaker 3: to go faster or slow down was he would put
- 20:42Speaker 3: his hand up or down on the Freuway in the
- 20:45Speaker 3: dark so you couldn't see anything. And that's just how
- 20:48Speaker 3: he would tell us what we needed to do. So
- 20:50Speaker 3: he told us twenty minutes back to wherever his shop
- 20:53Speaker 3: was and then basically was saying, yeah, let's just leave
- 20:55Speaker 3: your car here, leave your keys here, Like well, where
- 20:58Speaker 3: are we just just leave it fe So we were
- 21:01Speaker 3: like okay, well we have all of our stuff in
- 21:03Speaker 3: this truck at this point. Yeah, so like okay, So
- 21:06Speaker 3: basically threw the stuff in the back of his truck,
- 21:08Speaker 3: left our truck in this random parking lot, and then
- 21:11Speaker 3: he drove us to a random hotel where they took
- 21:12Speaker 3: us in.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Yeah they're really nice people though, brought.
- 21:16Speaker 3: Us in like host us for where there ended up
- 21:18Speaker 3: being there for like about a week. Yeah, they had
- 21:20Speaker 3: a restaurant. They just let us eat it, like put
- 21:22Speaker 3: us on a tab, yeah, and just like make sure
- 21:23Speaker 3: everything was taken care of, which is incredible.
- 21:25Speaker 4: Wow, that was awesome.
- 21:26Speaker 2: It was like so cheap their staying there for the
- 21:29Speaker 2: whole week and eating too.
- 21:30Speaker 4: I think it was like seventy five dollars Canadians. Yeah,
- 21:33Speaker 4: it was insane hotel.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Yeah, so it was insane.
- 21:37Speaker 3: Yeah, and then I was able to feel better.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I actually could recover and yeah, I was gonna say,
- 21:41Speaker 1: it's probably such a relief for you to be able
- 21:43Speaker 1: with food poisoning to have a place to.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Yeah just lay down or yeah it's not pretty.
- 21:51Speaker 3: It was funny because there's the language bearers with a
- 21:53Speaker 3: mechanic because we kept asking, oh, how are things going,
- 21:56Speaker 3: like yeah, like what's going on? But then he wouldn't reply,
- 22:00Speaker 3: or you'd say oh, yeah, i'll come pick you up
- 22:01Speaker 3: in ten minutes yeah, but would then come like five
- 22:04Speaker 3: hours later.
- 22:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:06Speaker 3: So it's just kind of funny because we're like, all right,
- 22:08Speaker 3: this is a something, will see what happens. And we
- 22:10Speaker 3: still didn't even know if we were going to be
- 22:11Speaker 3: able to continue our trip. We thought we were done
- 22:13Speaker 3: at that point, so it's kind of like again a
- 22:16Speaker 3: lot of uncertainty because we didn't know.
- 22:17Speaker 4: What was going on.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, how did you cope with that? Because I
- 22:21Speaker 1: think a lot of times in our daily life, like
- 22:24Speaker 1: you guys were working, you're working as a graphic designer
- 22:28Speaker 1: and you're working as a barber beforehand, and I'm assuming
- 22:32Speaker 1: that your life is kind of structured at the point
- 22:36Speaker 1: and things like this don't happen in your day to
- 22:39Speaker 1: day life. So all of a sudden you're thrown into
- 22:40Speaker 1: this situation where everything is up in the air. You
- 22:44Speaker 1: don't know if your trip's going to continue, Like how
- 22:47Speaker 1: did you deal with that? Or how did you did
- 22:50Speaker 1: you just go with it?
- 22:51Speaker 3: Or It was kind of nice in a sense because
- 22:54Speaker 3: I feel like because it happened in obviously like through
- 22:57Speaker 3: such a wrench of the mix, it definitely just did
- 23:00Speaker 3: like kind of like our daily normal routine to be like,
- 23:02Speaker 3: all right, this is how it's gonna be. We're not
- 23:05Speaker 3: gonna know what's gonna happen.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Yeah, so we just.
- 23:07Speaker 4: Kind of have to go with it.
- 23:08Speaker 3: And that was nice because normally I'm very like routine
- 23:12Speaker 3: with everything I do. So it's nice to be like, well,
- 23:14Speaker 3: we'll see what happens. We could leave today, we could
- 23:16Speaker 3: leave tomorrow, we might not leave. I don't know.
- 23:18Speaker 4: Yeah, So we just kind of rolled with it, which
- 23:20Speaker 4: was nice.
- 23:20Speaker 5: I was personally just delusionly optimistic. I'm like, it's gonna
- 23:23Speaker 5: get fixed. We're gonna go meet Josh's parents because his
- 23:25Speaker 5: parents were also visiting us along with our friends in
- 23:28Speaker 5: the same town in southern Mexico.
- 23:30Speaker 2: I was like, we're gonna get there in time and
- 23:31Speaker 2: see everybody. It's gonna be fine. And I just kept
- 23:33Speaker 2: telling myself that.
- 23:35Speaker 3: So were like, yeah, I want to see, Like we'll
- 23:36Speaker 3: say we're still going and we'll see what happens.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:40Speaker 3: We got our truck back and we're like, okay, we
- 23:42Speaker 3: have a lot of ground to cover, not a lot
- 23:44Speaker 3: of time to see these people. Yeah, And it was
- 23:47Speaker 3: funny because we got to They were in Waltuco, Mexico,
- 23:50Speaker 3: and we got there the day our friends were leaving.
- 23:53Speaker 3: We just met them at the beach and then drove
- 23:58Speaker 3: them to the airport and that was our time we
- 23:59Speaker 3: spent with.
- 24:01Speaker 2: We would have had like a week with them there.
- 24:03Speaker 2: We did break down.
- 24:04Speaker 3: Exactly so it ended up working out and it was fine,
- 24:08Speaker 3: but we're like, all right, this is kind of how
- 24:10Speaker 3: it has to be for a little bit. Yeah, so again,
- 24:12Speaker 3: it's kind of nice to throw us into the deep
- 24:14Speaker 3: end a little bit, to be like, Okay, we don't
- 24:16Speaker 3: know what's going on. We have to just figure things
- 24:18Speaker 3: out and we have to problem solve and that's part
- 24:20Speaker 3: of this trip.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I said the tone probably for the rest
- 24:24Speaker 1: of the trip.
- 24:25Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely, I became it is funny. Van Essa made
- 24:28Speaker 3: fun of me a lot and a lot of people
- 24:29Speaker 3: we met traveling because I got into a habit of
- 24:32Speaker 3: I had like a joke that it was like my
- 24:34Speaker 3: seventy five point inspection. Every morning I'd wake up and
- 24:37Speaker 3: I'd like, everything sounds like I'm not not going to
- 24:41Speaker 3: do this, and then have something else break.
- 24:42Speaker 2: Yeah, it could be an expensive mistake exactly double check everything.
- 24:46Speaker 3: But then anytime we stopped to either get food, gas, anything,
- 24:49Speaker 3: I would check all the fluids. Every morning, I would
- 24:52Speaker 3: check over everything, and every night I would check over everything.
- 24:55Speaker 3: So I was basically just always checking everything. So I
- 24:57Speaker 3: didn't want it to break. But nothing else major broke
- 25:00Speaker 3: the rest of the.
- 25:00Speaker 4: Trip, So yeah, not mad about it.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Yeah, so that's a good practice.
- 25:04Speaker 3: Yeah, it's definitely way over the top, but it was
- 25:07Speaker 3: not mad about it.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Being proactive exactly helps a lot, exactly.
- 25:12Speaker 2: Definitely your future self.
- 25:14Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, exactly, So thank you very much.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:18Speaker 3: I felt when our truck did break, I was like,
- 25:20Speaker 3: this was definitely preventable. I could have done something about this.
- 25:22Speaker 3: I was like, I'm living and learning from that experience
- 25:25Speaker 3: and I'm not doing that now. Yeah, so it worked out.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Yeah, So it sounds like there were lots of lessons learned,
- 25:32Speaker 1: which I think is just something that goes hand in
- 25:34Speaker 1: hand with your first big overland trip or even a
- 25:37Speaker 1: small overland trip. Yeah, you know, the first time you
- 25:40Speaker 1: go out and you're pushing yourself a little bit and
- 25:42Speaker 1: you're learning things. So you're learning about the heavy interior
- 25:46Speaker 1: and you're learning about doing those checks every morning.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Is there anything else, and it doesn't have to be
- 25:51Speaker 1: vehicle related that you learned on this trip that you
- 25:54Speaker 1: that would change things for you moving forward?
- 25:57Speaker 2: What do you think I have to think?
- 25:58Speaker 3: For a second, big thing for I'd say us as
- 26:01Speaker 3: a couple was our communication got a lot.
- 26:03Speaker 2: You spent a lot of time together, so you get
- 26:05Speaker 2: better as a couple, you get worse. Thankfully, we got better. Yeah, funny, Yeah,
- 26:09Speaker 2: I joke.
- 26:10Speaker 3: That our truck I believe it was forty eight square feet, yeah,
- 26:14Speaker 3: not including the pop top.
- 26:15Speaker 4: Yeah, so it's funny.
- 26:17Speaker 3: Is as talking to a friend about this as well
- 26:19Speaker 3: as like when you spend that much time with somebody
- 26:21Speaker 3: in like farthest distances arm reach, you learn how to
- 26:25Speaker 3: talk really well. Yeah, because little problems can become big problems.
- 26:28Speaker 3: So it's nice. It's like, oky, this is what I'm
- 26:32Speaker 3: thinking right now, because a lot of time for me personally,
- 26:34Speaker 3: i'd over overthink everything, whereas I like Vanessa's mad at
- 26:37Speaker 3: me chilling.
- 26:39Speaker 4: Wasn't she just chilling?
- 26:40Speaker 5: I was like, I'm fine, why are you exactly?
- 26:44Speaker 4: Just read end everything?
- 26:45Speaker 3: Yeah, communication got very good for us as a couple,
- 26:47Speaker 3: which is yeah, yeah, and.
- 26:49Speaker 4: Definitely learning how to take care of our bodies properly, right yeah.
- 26:52Speaker 3: Yeah, because living in a car and well again, a
- 26:55Speaker 3: lot of times you just get food it was side
- 26:58Speaker 3: of the road or gas stations or whatever, and really
- 27:00Speaker 3: this just don't feel good. You need to take care
- 27:02Speaker 3: of yourself. Be aware of that, especially with a big
- 27:07Speaker 3: trip like that you're sitting a lot, so knowing to
- 27:10Speaker 3: be like, Okay, I need to be active, I need
- 27:11Speaker 3: to do things. Yeah, because definitely if you just sit
- 27:14Speaker 3: there and just eat ruk food for the entire time,
- 27:17Speaker 3: you're not going to be feeling Yeah.
- 27:20Speaker 1: Yeah, sometimes those things take a little while because I
- 27:22Speaker 1: think there's so much that you're processing and you know
- 27:25Speaker 1: that eating healthy makes you feel better. Or you know
- 27:27Speaker 1: that you are driving a lot, and so you need
- 27:30Speaker 1: some movement and some exercise as well. But all these
- 27:32Speaker 1: little things are being put into place over time.
- 27:35Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, I think.
- 27:37Speaker 1: And you also want to be experimental, you want to
- 27:39Speaker 1: try certain foods, yeah, and you want to embrace where
- 27:42Speaker 1: you are. But balancing it out, yeah, it's really important.
- 27:47Speaker 1: But how did you did you introduce more activities or yeah,
- 27:51Speaker 1: so cook more for yourself or how did you We actually.
- 27:54Speaker 2: Didn't eat out a ton, No, we didn't eat it
- 27:56Speaker 2: very much.
- 27:56Speaker 3: All we made.
- 27:56Speaker 2: Actually one one big joke we have one of the
- 27:59Speaker 2: couples made the closest connection with on this trip. They
- 28:02Speaker 2: make the joke that, oh, it was nothing beats the
- 28:05Speaker 2: Baja fish tacos because we didn't have them when we
- 28:07Speaker 2: were in Baja, so we were being too cheap, like
- 28:10Speaker 2: we can't afford to eat anything else. We're gonna make everything.
- 28:12Speaker 2: So there's like you went to Baja and you know
- 28:14Speaker 2: the fish tacos. So that was just one joke. They
- 28:15Speaker 2: always had was.
- 28:16Speaker 3: Nothing to be we just made all of our food
- 28:20Speaker 3: run a budget.
- 28:21Speaker 2: So next time, yeah, next time we're.
- 28:23Speaker 3: Realizing like, oh we planned and saved for this, we
- 28:26Speaker 3: can buy food.
- 28:26Speaker 4: That's okay.
- 28:27Speaker 5: So you have a balance for sure, like be aware
- 28:30Speaker 5: of how much you're spending, but also like make room
- 28:32Speaker 5: for fun, Like I'm glad that we relaxed a little
- 28:34Speaker 5: bit after that and be like, oh, we actually we
- 28:36Speaker 5: can go eat out or we can do this activity exactly.
- 28:38Speaker 3: Yeah, because that was the thing is we loosen up
- 28:40Speaker 3: a lot to be like, okay, we can't afford to
- 28:41Speaker 3: do things.
- 28:42Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, just even.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Just relaxing to be like okay, it's okay to slow down,
- 28:45Speaker 3: it's okay to do stuff.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:47Speaker 5: We felt rushed all the time because we're like, oh,
- 28:49Speaker 5: we have this short timeline to do all this trip,
- 28:51Speaker 5: and we ended up extending our trip because we like,
- 28:53Speaker 5: there's no way we can do this in six months,
- 28:55Speaker 5: and even doing it in nine months is not enough time.
- 28:57Speaker 5: Which we wish we would have done it longer too,
- 28:58Speaker 5: but we had jobs and stuff to come back home too,
- 29:02Speaker 5: so we had to cut it short.
- 29:03Speaker 4: But that's just we're kind of breaking down. It was
- 29:05Speaker 4: kind of nice.
- 29:05Speaker 3: It's kind of like reminded us like it's okay to
- 29:07Speaker 3: slow down. Yeah, definitely Again back home, I find like
- 29:11Speaker 3: we live like a very fast paced life of just
- 29:13Speaker 3: constantly moving. So it's nice to be like, oh, we
- 29:16Speaker 3: don't need to do this, like you can just if
- 29:18Speaker 3: you only go for a little bit right now, that's okay,
- 29:21Speaker 3: And it's okay not to be in a rush everywhere. Yeah,
- 29:23Speaker 3: So it's just nice to actually slow down, be okay,
- 29:26Speaker 3: you just appreciate where you are right now, enjoy that.
- 29:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:29Speaker 1: So you've been back for a few months now, and
- 29:32Speaker 1: I'm curious how the adjustment process has been. This is
- 29:35Speaker 1: something I've talked with a lot of travelers about. Yeah,
- 29:41Speaker 1: just like reverse culture shock or I feel like I
- 29:44Speaker 1: kind of felt drunk for like I wasn't, but I
- 29:47Speaker 1: felt weird.
- 29:49Speaker 3: Definitely.
- 29:50Speaker 1: Toothpaste al You're like, why are there so many toothpaist
- 29:53Speaker 1: Like there's so many toothpaste options and other things like that.
- 29:56Speaker 1: What are some things that you've noticed since you've been
- 29:59Speaker 1: back home.
- 30:00Speaker 3: One of the things that was funny, as I remember
- 30:02Speaker 3: this is probably the first two or three days that
- 30:04Speaker 3: we were home, and we were driving with my parents
- 30:07Speaker 3: somewhere and they had just paid paid a new road
- 30:11Speaker 3: and my mom was talking about how like, oh man,
- 30:12Speaker 3: this road is awful. Beforehand, he had no idea what
- 30:15Speaker 3: this road was. Like, I literally looked there was like
- 30:17Speaker 3: I'm sorry, you can't really talk to me about this
- 30:19Speaker 3: right now.
- 30:20Speaker 2: Is like have you seen because like.
- 30:22Speaker 3: We've seen like insane roads. Oh yeah, okay, maybe it
- 30:27Speaker 3: wasn't that bad. It's like, no, it probably wasn't that bad.
- 30:29Speaker 3: It's a paved road Canada.
- 30:30Speaker 2: Yeah, really nice, very much.
- 30:34Speaker 3: So that was kind of funny. It just like I
- 30:36Speaker 3: think that was weird as well, is coming back and
- 30:39Speaker 3: realizing like how much we've got done and experienced and
- 30:42Speaker 3: just being like, oh wow, so much life still happened
- 30:46Speaker 3: while we were doing this as well, like a very
- 30:48Speaker 3: one that this is a weird one. But coming back
- 30:51Speaker 3: in like we have nieces and nephews, yeah, and like
- 30:53Speaker 3: when we left, like they're still like babies.
- 30:56Speaker 5: Well, your youngest niece was literally like three months old
- 30:58Speaker 5: and we left.
- 30:59Speaker 3: Yeah, and then it's like we came back and I'm like,
- 31:00Speaker 3: you're a little person.
- 31:01Speaker 5: Like she celebrated her first birthday like a month after
- 31:04Speaker 5: we got home.
- 31:04Speaker 2: It was so weird.
- 31:06Speaker 3: So it's weird to be like you can stand up
- 31:08Speaker 3: and do stuff with your eyes. Yeah, that was weird,
- 31:12Speaker 3: even just coming back and be like, oh, well, I
- 31:14Speaker 3: just did all of this, but this is kind of
- 31:16Speaker 3: a funny one. But like realizing that nobody else realizes
- 31:19Speaker 3: you just did this because obviously you're not just like
- 31:21Speaker 3: you know, have banner that says.
- 31:22Speaker 5: Hey, I just yeah, like no one knows that you
- 31:24Speaker 5: did this incredible journey, and like they're just doing this
- 31:27Speaker 5: thing and you're like, yeah, cool.
- 31:28Speaker 3: I remember. It was even funny when we got to
- 31:30Speaker 3: the u Shuwa I took the final point where it's
- 31:32Speaker 3: like the photo op that everybody does. I remember we
- 31:34Speaker 3: got there and we pulled in and it was like, wow,
- 31:37Speaker 3: this big accomplishment. Right when he pulled in, like five
- 31:40Speaker 3: to R buses pulled in behind us. So we're kind
- 31:42Speaker 3: of like having a little bit of moment just kind
- 31:43Speaker 3: of like standing look at the signe and like people
- 31:45Speaker 3: came like kind of like pushed us out of the
- 31:47Speaker 3: waist they could get a photo by the sign. Yeah,
- 31:49Speaker 3: we were standing there, and I was like, that's true.
- 31:51Speaker 3: We just drove here, and like no one really even
- 31:54Speaker 3: understands that.
- 31:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:56Speaker 3: I was just kind of huh, it's kind of neat that,
- 31:59Speaker 3: like this is such a small detail. Yeah, but like
- 32:02Speaker 3: no one is aware that this was just nine months
- 32:04Speaker 3: of our life to get to this one point yet
- 32:07Speaker 3: where they drove like forty five minutes.
- 32:09Speaker 1: Right.
- 32:10Speaker 3: It was just kind of funny to be like, oh man,
- 32:11Speaker 3: that's such a weird. Yeah, I think because that was
- 32:13Speaker 3: such a big thing for us obviously. Yeah, well for
- 32:15Speaker 3: other people it's like, oh, you probably don't even really
- 32:18Speaker 3: think about this, right, So it's just kind of funny
- 32:20Speaker 3: in that sense.
- 32:21Speaker 5: One little thing for me that was kind of like
- 32:23Speaker 5: a thing I was so excited about that I'm never
- 32:26Speaker 5: excited about is washing dishes in a sink with running.
- 32:28Speaker 2: Water that's hot.
- 32:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:30Speaker 5: Oh, because we had a tiny little like the collapse
- 32:33Speaker 5: will Bin that I'd washed dishes and then almost always
- 32:35Speaker 5: the water was cold, like I'm not even cleaning these properly,
- 32:38Speaker 5: but whatever, camping all the time. But yeah, I was
- 32:41Speaker 5: so excited to wash dishes in our sink at home.
- 32:43Speaker 5: I'm like, this is so weird that this tiny, little
- 32:45Speaker 5: simple thing that most people like hate doing.
- 32:47Speaker 2: I'm like, I love this. I get to do this now.
- 32:50Speaker 1: We had the same experience, and our family members were like,
- 32:53Speaker 1: we have It's okay, you can put them in the dishwasher. Yeah,
- 32:56Speaker 1: I'm like, no, no, yeah, why would I do that
- 33:00Speaker 1: when I'm hot water exactly?
- 33:02Speaker 3: And I still have a hard time not wearing the
- 33:05Speaker 3: same clothes every day.
- 33:06Speaker 2: Oh same.
- 33:06Speaker 5: I went like a few days without like washing my hair,
- 33:08Speaker 5: and I remember your mom commented on it, and I
- 33:10Speaker 5: was like, oh, yeah, I can wash my hair more often.
- 33:13Speaker 2: I can do that, I can shower more.
- 33:14Speaker 6: I have more than three shirts right right, Yeah.
- 33:19Speaker 3: I still wear the same clothes whenever I'm doing anything
- 33:22Speaker 3: on the cars because I still have not learned that
- 33:24Speaker 3: I'm supposed to change into.
- 33:25Speaker 4: Work clothes, right.
- 33:27Speaker 2: So yeah, it's very funny.
- 33:29Speaker 4: That's not going to change.
- 33:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it.
- 33:30Speaker 5: Overall, it just made us more grateful for all the
- 33:32Speaker 5: awesome things we have our dispose of living in Canada.
- 33:35Speaker 3: So like running water, hot water, toilet.
- 33:39Speaker 5: Yeah, just like infrastructure, just like all the stuff like
- 33:41Speaker 5: you're just really grateful for it all.
- 33:43Speaker 3: It's like simple little things like even this one was
- 33:45Speaker 3: kind of funny as well, but uh, after Vanessa got
- 33:48Speaker 3: sick in Mexico as oh, we'll find it like an
- 33:50Speaker 3: electrolyte powder.
- 33:52Speaker 4: Oh yeah, that doesn't exist.
- 33:53Speaker 2: You could not find them anywhere because we literally.
- 33:56Speaker 3: Looked in every country. I think we found it once
- 33:59Speaker 3: in maybe Peru.
- 34:00Speaker 2: Like you could get like PENI late like them.
- 34:03Speaker 3: You can get like gatorade powder mixed or whatever. So
- 34:06Speaker 3: it's kind of funny because you're like, this is just
- 34:08Speaker 3: a thing I've never thought of being a luxury, but yeah,
- 34:11Speaker 3: I guess other places don't have.
- 34:12Speaker 2: This is not common.
- 34:14Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's like little things like that, even like
- 34:17Speaker 3: being able to drink the water. Yeah, yeah, it's still
- 34:19Speaker 3: weird to where like because obviously in Canada, like you
- 34:21Speaker 3: can drink tap water, but the amount of times where
- 34:23Speaker 3: I'm like, oh I need to get filled this but
- 34:24Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, yeah, I can just do that. Yeah,
- 34:27Speaker 3: I don't need to seek out a water source that's safe. Yeah,
- 34:30Speaker 3: that's kind of funny. Still still having a hard time
- 34:33Speaker 3: with that. It's just like little things that have gotten
- 34:35Speaker 3: like you got so accustomed to that are not normal
- 34:38Speaker 3: in all of the world.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Yeah, correct, Yeah, what a weird feeling. Yeah, but yeah,
- 34:44Speaker 1: really grateful, I'm sure too. Yeah, yeah, definitely, it is
- 34:48Speaker 1: nice that feeling that you're like, oh, I can just
- 34:52Speaker 1: have I can have a shower, yeah, whenever I want.
- 34:55Speaker 1: It's weird you feel the showers are so and frequent sometimes. Yeah,
- 35:02Speaker 1: that or like a proper toilet can be.
- 35:06Speaker 2: Hit or miss.
- 35:07Speaker 1: Yeah, and so yeah, going home, I'm experiencing that right
- 35:10Speaker 1: now too. Toning back from from Spain as well, I'm like, wait,
- 35:15Speaker 1: i can just wash my hair like whenever.
- 35:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:19Speaker 3: It's funny as well, because I think that I've realized
- 35:20Speaker 3: it is getting home. I shower way faster now, yeah, because.
- 35:24Speaker 4: Like I'll just get in.
- 35:24Speaker 3: I'm like okay, yeah, like minute and a half, everything's done.
- 35:28Speaker 3: It's like, all right, we have hot water that lasts
- 35:31Speaker 3: longer than a minute and a half mm hmm.
- 35:34Speaker 4: So it's we're sitting on our water bill though.
- 35:37Speaker 2: Yeah, that's it's just kind of fun.
- 35:39Speaker 3: I just realized that the other day where I was like,
- 35:40Speaker 3: I'm way faster at this than I used to.
- 35:43Speaker 2: Having a process now yeah, so good. Yeah, that's just
- 35:47Speaker 2: little things and the value of water.
- 35:49Speaker 6: Yeah, oh yeah, you think about yes, you think about
- 35:53Speaker 6: every drop and you're like, oh no, I'm not just
- 35:54Speaker 6: sleeping the tap on now.
- 35:55Speaker 3: Because you're like, well for the last year, like, we
- 35:58Speaker 3: have twenty meters of water until we can find more water,
- 36:02Speaker 3: so we have to save.
- 36:03Speaker 4: Every ounce of this.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:06Speaker 3: Yeah, that was funny to get used to in the
- 36:09Speaker 3: very beginning, saving saving the water.
- 36:13Speaker 4: You get one of those the missing bottles.
- 36:15Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, we met somebody who had that and
- 36:19Speaker 3: had them on like this is going to save us
- 36:21Speaker 3: so much.
- 36:22Speaker 2: Yeah, excuse it. Wash dishes.
- 36:23Speaker 4: It's great dishes and toothbrushes.
- 36:27Speaker 1: I love that, right, and when it's hot, you can
- 36:32Speaker 1: Were there any hacks that you picked up besides the
- 36:35Speaker 1: spray bottle on the road or do you think.
- 36:38Speaker 4: There's a few so.
- 36:41Speaker 1: Well.
- 36:41Speaker 4: One was a pea bottle.
- 36:43Speaker 5: Yeah, it's like an uncolm like unspoken thing that everyone has.
- 36:47Speaker 4: Yeah, yes, a bottle that you just pee into.
- 36:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:51Speaker 4: I still use that at home.
- 36:52Speaker 2: He does, and I'm like, you don't need to do
- 36:54Speaker 2: that anymore. But toilet.
- 36:57Speaker 4: One that we learned because we didn't have.
- 37:01Speaker 3: Like air condition or anything.
- 37:02Speaker 4: We just had a fan.
- 37:03Speaker 3: Yeah, so one tip that we learned where if you're
- 37:06Speaker 3: in a very hot climate and you don't have like
- 37:09Speaker 3: airflow or whatever, is if you take just like a
- 37:13Speaker 3: top sheet and you miss the top sheet down so
- 37:15Speaker 3: it's slightly damp, and then have a fan on you,
- 37:18Speaker 3: it cools the top of the sheet and.
- 37:19Speaker 4: Therefore cools you.
- 37:21Speaker 3: Yeah, so you want to wear as little as possible,
- 37:23Speaker 3: so basically just like underwear naked if you can, and
- 37:27Speaker 3: it basically slightly cools you, Yeah, but not to the
- 37:29Speaker 3: point where you're freezing. But even if there's just like
- 37:32Speaker 3: a slight wind at all, it cools it enough.
- 37:36Speaker 2: So that was a big one.
- 37:37Speaker 4: We use that a lot. When we were in.
- 37:39Speaker 2: Orld Embassy, we use that too.
- 37:41Speaker 3: Yeah. Coachreaking Panama. It was they had like a heat,
- 37:44Speaker 3: don't It was the hottest it had been in like
- 37:45Speaker 3: thirty years, so it was it was a lot.
- 37:49Speaker 2: It was hot.
- 37:50Speaker 4: So that helped insane amount. So that was very nice. Yeah,
- 37:55Speaker 4: And I'm trying to think of what else.
- 37:56Speaker 2: I actually turned up. I'm sure there's more. There's not
- 37:59Speaker 2: coming to my head right now.
- 38:02Speaker 1: This great, Yeah for sure. So coming back to Canada,
- 38:11Speaker 1: what would you say that you would want Canadians to
- 38:15Speaker 1: know about this trip and the people you met along
- 38:19Speaker 1: the way or what.
- 38:19Speaker 2: You saw.
- 38:21Speaker 5: I had, I would say, like because everyone always especially
- 38:25Speaker 5: like when people talk about Mexico, like, oh, it's so dangerous,
- 38:28Speaker 5: like you're driving through Mexico, like people, there's a lot
- 38:31Speaker 5: more good people out there than people assume, and like
- 38:34Speaker 5: what you hear from the media or whatever, Like we
- 38:36Speaker 5: didn't run to any trouble with people on our trip,
- 38:38Speaker 5: Like we were very lucky to not have been robbed
- 38:41Speaker 5: or anything like that, but like everyone was so Yeah,
- 38:43Speaker 5: everyone was so kind and that like other overlanders we
- 38:46Speaker 5: met to were in the same boat as us, but
- 38:48Speaker 5: like everyone was so kind. The locals always are just
- 38:50Speaker 5: like they're just curious, like what.
- 38:51Speaker 2: Are you doing? Like you're from Canada? Was this but
- 38:54Speaker 2: with the language barrier a lot of times, like we
- 38:56Speaker 2: drove here from Canada and that's all I could say that.
- 39:00Speaker 3: I like, I forget where I heard this, but I
- 39:02Speaker 3: really liked and I found once we kind of started
- 39:04Speaker 3: to like realize this and like lived like this, it
- 39:07Speaker 3: helped a lot. Was only one percent of the world
- 39:09Speaker 3: is truly evil and not nine.
- 39:10Speaker 4: Percent of the world is actually kind.
- 39:12Speaker 3: Yeah, and when you you everyone that you come in
- 39:15Speaker 3: contact with is being truly kind. You let down a
- 39:19Speaker 3: lot of walls, and when you have your walls down,
- 39:22Speaker 3: other people let their walls down. Yeah, because most people
- 39:25Speaker 3: don't actually want to harm you or anything. Yeah, even
- 39:27Speaker 3: a lot of times when things happen, it's because people
- 39:29Speaker 3: are in rough situations, but they're not actually truly evil people.
- 39:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 39:32Speaker 3: So when you kind of start like view like that,
- 39:34Speaker 3: that helped a tone as well as a big one
- 39:38Speaker 3: that I realized was in like when we were in
- 39:40Speaker 3: Mexico and when we broke down, that was when a
- 39:43Speaker 3: lot of like heavy cartel stuff was going on. There
- 39:45Speaker 3: was I think it was alkhop with Sun was arrested
- 39:48Speaker 3: or something.
- 39:48Speaker 2: Yeah, it was all happening in Sineloa.
- 39:50Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 39:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 39:51Speaker 3: So like I remember when we were in Baja, we
- 39:53Speaker 3: met a couple there and they're like, do not go
- 39:55Speaker 3: to mainland Mexico, Like that's the stupidest thing you could
- 39:57Speaker 3: ever do. And we're like leaving on the ferry the
- 40:00Speaker 3: next day.
- 40:00Speaker 2: And you're like, oh, well, look good, we're going anywhere.
- 40:02Speaker 3: And then I remember I had like clients and friends
- 40:04Speaker 3: like all sending his articles on stuff that was going on,
- 40:07Speaker 3: and we were like, oh man, like this is this
- 40:08Speaker 3: is gonna be a lot. Where it was funny is
- 40:11Speaker 3: when we left and we're in mainline Mexico. You if
- 40:13Speaker 3: you didn't tell us something was happening, we'd have had
- 40:15Speaker 3: no idea, And it really made us realize whre it's.
- 40:18Speaker 3: Oh the stuff that you see posted is way more
- 40:20Speaker 3: than what you think it is. Yeah, because even it
- 40:22Speaker 3: was funny because that was what we initially noticed. And
- 40:25Speaker 3: then nearing the end of our trip, there's a lot
- 40:28Speaker 3: of wildfires back like in our hometown, and it was
- 40:31Speaker 3: kind of funny because I remember seeing like on Instagram
- 40:33Speaker 3: and articles and whatever, like how bad these fires were.
- 40:36Speaker 3: I remember like calling my parents and calling the guys
- 40:38Speaker 3: I work with, like, oh you guys, okay, like how
- 40:40Speaker 3: bad is it? Like we're fine, Like yeah, there's some fires,
- 40:44Speaker 3: but they're not that close to us, so just be like, oh, well,
- 40:48Speaker 3: from like stuff on like Instagram and online, it looks
- 40:51Speaker 3: like all those vcs just a ball of flames. Well
- 40:54Speaker 3: there's some, but it's not that close. Oh okay, maybe
- 40:59Speaker 3: that's not exactly what it seems. So the stuff that
- 41:02Speaker 3: you hear might not always be exactly what it is.
- 41:04Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure, it a little bit more.
- 41:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I remember living in Vancouver and I think it
- 41:09Speaker 1: was after a hockey game or something. This is so Canadian,
- 41:12Speaker 1: oh my goodness, actually ridiculous. But I think there were riots.
- 41:16Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, and we lived right downtown at that time,
- 41:21Speaker 1: and it.
- 41:22Speaker 2: Looked like the entire city was on fire. I thought.
- 41:26Speaker 1: I don't know if you guys remember there was a
- 41:27Speaker 1: famous photo of this girl like laying in the street
- 41:31Speaker 1: and some guy kissing her. I know you're anyway, So yeah,
- 41:35Speaker 1: it's the same thing.
- 41:36Speaker 2: Yeah it was.
- 41:37Speaker 1: It was one street. Yeah, but it looked like the
- 41:40Speaker 1: entire Vancouver was just a mess.
- 41:43Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly.
- 41:44Speaker 1: So yeah, that's an important lesson to learn. I think
- 41:48Speaker 1: it's it's a pretty common one, and try if traveled anywhere.
- 41:52Speaker 1: Really it's different than you think it's going to be
- 41:55Speaker 1: or you've heard.
- 41:55Speaker 5: Yeah, just like, use common sense if you are scared
- 41:57Speaker 5: of running into trouble or stuff like that.
- 42:00Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Don't go into the sketchy Dirk alleyway that night. Yeah good.
- 42:05Speaker 3: Don't think something doesn't feel right, trust that it's not
- 42:08Speaker 3: a big deal.
- 42:08Speaker 4: Just to leave and go somewhere else.
- 42:10Speaker 5: Yeah, we've done that. We're like this camp sit did
- 42:12Speaker 5: the same, Right, We're gonna go find somewhere else exactly.
- 42:14Speaker 3: Yeah, it's kind of funny. Like the point that you
- 42:16Speaker 3: just SAIDs well is I think that, like I realized
- 42:18Speaker 3: as well, people would hear something, Oh, this is happening
- 42:21Speaker 3: in Well to say, Mexico's next is all super dangerous.
- 42:24Speaker 4: This is happening like seen a law, Like do you
- 42:26Speaker 4: know how.
- 42:26Speaker 2: Big Mexico is a big country?
- 42:29Speaker 3: Like Para in cans Oh, this is happening in Toronto.
- 42:32Speaker 3: I live on the West coast, Like, yeah, it takes
- 42:34Speaker 3: me a week to get there, or like opposite ends
- 42:36Speaker 3: of the US. Yeah, really doesn't affect me because I'm
- 42:40Speaker 3: very far from that.
- 42:41Speaker 1: Yeah, but people just hear like, oh so it's all
- 42:42Speaker 1: of it then, Yeah, but generalization exactly.
- 42:46Speaker 3: Yeah, like countries are bigger than just one town.
- 42:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:49Speaker 1: Yeah, good point. I know you guys are back home now,
- 42:55Speaker 1: But what would you want to tell the people that
- 43:02Speaker 1: you had met about Canada? Oh? I know it's so hard.
- 43:07Speaker 1: Somebody asked me this recently and I literally didn't. I
- 43:10Speaker 1: couldn't think of anything. So I hope this would be
- 43:12Speaker 1: a perfect question.
- 43:14Speaker 2: That's really funny. I feel like everyone has a good
- 43:16Speaker 2: idea of Canada already that we met.
- 43:18Speaker 1: Maybe it's something they don't know or yeah, it could
- 43:21Speaker 1: be a misconception or something that I don't know. It
- 43:25Speaker 1: could be something that's close to your heart about Canada
- 43:28Speaker 1: that you want to share with other people.
- 43:29Speaker 2: It could be that too.
- 43:30Speaker 3: There's less snow overall than what people.
- 43:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it gets pretty hot where we live.
- 43:36Speaker 3: It does, like it gets like into like the high thirties.
- 43:40Speaker 2: Yeah, there like degrees fahrenheit.
- 43:42Speaker 3: Yeah, on degrees fahrenheit isn't uncommon, correct, And yes, in
- 43:47Speaker 3: the winter, like we still get a lot of snow,
- 43:48Speaker 3: but we have seasons.
- 43:51Speaker 2: It's not just we don't live in ilus. We've been
- 43:54Speaker 2: asked that before. Yeah, yeah I don't.
- 43:57Speaker 1: Not.
- 43:57Speaker 3: Everybody in Canada plays hockey. Yeah, there are importants everywhere.
- 44:01Speaker 2: Hords is everywhere, and it's it's not bad. Yeah it's
- 44:04Speaker 2: not great, but it's not bad.
- 44:05Speaker 3: Canadian cuisine isn't really a big thing. There's poutine and yeah,
- 44:09Speaker 3: m bars, Nimo bars, those are the big things we
- 44:11Speaker 3: would tell people. Butter tarts, butter tarts.
- 44:15Speaker 1: Yeah, there's more of a global kind of food scene here,
- 44:17Speaker 1: I would say than some very specific, yeah, generalized kind
- 44:21Speaker 1: of Canadian cuisine.
- 44:22Speaker 2: I actually I had to google what was like Canadian
- 44:25Speaker 2: food because one of.
- 44:26Speaker 5: Our friends asked us on the trip. Yeah, and it's like,
- 44:28Speaker 5: I actually don't know. I don't think it's poutine, but yeah,
- 44:31Speaker 5: it's like.
- 44:31Speaker 3: What's a Canadian dish? Like I don't I don't really
- 44:33Speaker 3: know what's a Canadian dish.
- 44:35Speaker 2: I think split pea soup or something like that was
- 44:37Speaker 2: a Canadian thing on the list. I was like, I
- 44:39Speaker 2: didn't know that. Okay, something like that.
- 44:42Speaker 1: Like lobster on the East coasting, yeah, or yeah, I'll say.
- 44:47Speaker 3: As well, Like Canada is way bigger than you'd expect,
- 44:49Speaker 3: and a lot of the things that people know about
- 44:51Speaker 3: Canada are essentially the coast. Like people have heard of
- 44:54Speaker 3: Vancouver and they've heard of Toronto, and yes, both very
- 44:57Speaker 3: beautiful cities, but there's a lot beside just those, Like
- 45:01Speaker 3: we're about like six hours from Vancouver and people have
- 45:04Speaker 3: no idea where that is. And it's like gorgeous, Like
- 45:08Speaker 3: we love in the Wine Country.
- 45:09Speaker 2: There's lakes everywhere, can go skiing in the winter, biking.
- 45:13Speaker 4: In the summer.
- 45:14Speaker 3: Like it's a very like outdoor active community, which is
- 45:16Speaker 3: really cool. So I feel like people again like that
- 45:18Speaker 3: that misconception of like Canada's always winter where it's only
- 45:22Speaker 3: in winter for part of the year. Yeah, and it's
- 45:25Speaker 3: way bigger and there's way more like wild Latin than
- 45:28Speaker 3: what people think true, Like I feel that's even like honestly,
- 45:32Speaker 3: like being from Canada, I feel like I often forget.
- 45:35Speaker 4: That or I'm like, all right, there's a lot of
- 45:37Speaker 4: trees here and it goes on for a very long way.
- 45:41Speaker 2: It does.
- 45:41Speaker 3: Because even I was talking to somebody the other day
- 45:43Speaker 3: about like Prince George BC. Yeah, and people that's northern BC.
- 45:47Speaker 3: But if you look at the map, that's like kind
- 45:49Speaker 3: of rettle. There's a lot more above that. But people
- 45:52Speaker 3: forget how big Canada is. Like even some like BC,
- 45:56Speaker 3: I think it's almost the distance of driving see to
- 46:00Speaker 3: Alaska or like from the like the US border to
- 46:03Speaker 3: Alaska through BC. That's almost the same distance as driving
- 46:06Speaker 3: across Canada.
- 46:07Speaker 2: I think it's like driving from BC to Toronto or
- 46:09Speaker 2: something like that.
- 46:10Speaker 6: Like it's people don't wow, yeah, yeah, because like you
- 46:14Speaker 6: look at it.
- 46:14Speaker 3: On a map and you're like, oh, like that's pretty small,
- 46:17Speaker 3: but maps aren't accurate.
- 46:18Speaker 2: Exercizing sure, so it's way bigger.
- 46:21Speaker 4: Than what people expect.
- 46:22Speaker 1: It is. I think that we calculated like the distance
- 46:25Speaker 1: between I might I might be getting this wrong. I
- 46:29Speaker 1: swear it was Montana to Tac Tooyac Tuk, I believe,
- 46:35Speaker 1: and it was the same distance from was it Montana
- 46:38Speaker 1: to Mexico City?
- 46:40Speaker 2: Oh wow?
- 46:40Speaker 1: Yeah that's crazy right, So yeah, it's there's a lot
- 46:44Speaker 1: of north.
- 46:44Speaker 2: Yeah, north.
- 46:47Speaker 4: I remember, this is what surprises.
- 46:49Speaker 3: I didn't realize how big Mexico was when we left, Yeah,
- 46:52Speaker 3: because I remember we got our oil changed in California
- 46:56Speaker 3: and I was okay, we should be good for a while,
- 46:58Speaker 3: and we weren't even like out of Mexico before.
- 46:59Speaker 4: I had to do it again.
- 47:00Speaker 5: Yeah, we were like in the loom when you did that.
- 47:04Speaker 4: I think.
- 47:04Speaker 3: So. Yeah, that was again where we're like, oh cool,
- 47:06Speaker 3: this is a very big country and we now have
- 47:08Speaker 3: a very little time to get.
- 47:09Speaker 4: Through all of this.
- 47:10Speaker 2: Yeah, so we'll come back.
- 47:11Speaker 4: So we're definitely going to do Mexico again.
- 47:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:13Speaker 3: Mexico is a bit fast.
- 47:14Speaker 2: Yeah, it was way too fast.
- 47:16Speaker 1: Do you have any plans, future plans, dreams, upcoming trips.
- 47:22Speaker 1: We're going to stay home for a bit and probably.
- 47:25Speaker 2: Work for a bit. Both definitely dreams and some plans.
- 47:27Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, so I'll say yes to kind of all
- 47:29Speaker 3: of those. Yeah, so we need to work for a
- 47:31Speaker 3: little bit now, Yeah, Poco work truck is hurting a
- 47:34Speaker 3: little bit.
- 47:35Speaker 2: You need some work.
- 47:35Speaker 3: So I'm going to swap the engine in the transmission
- 47:38Speaker 3: this winter, and then our plan is to finish the
- 47:41Speaker 3: PanAm and drive up to northern Alaska enough to tuck. Yeah,
- 47:44Speaker 3: so we'll see how fixing everything goes on the truck is.
- 47:48Speaker 3: There's quite a lot that needs to be donated to.
- 47:49Speaker 2: Change a lot did some damage, so.
- 47:52Speaker 3: We're going to do that, and then we start talking
- 47:53Speaker 3: about potentially shipping the truck somewhere else.
- 47:56Speaker 2: For a different vehicle. We don't know, we're.
- 47:57Speaker 4: Potentially different vehicle. We're not really sure.
- 47:59Speaker 3: Yeah, so we've talked about shipping it maybe over to
- 48:02Speaker 3: Europe or to Africa and then going around there.
- 48:06Speaker 4: Yeah, so we'll kind of see.
- 48:08Speaker 3: There's a few things that are kind of in the
- 48:09Speaker 3: talk mm hmm or in the works, but we'll see
- 48:13Speaker 3: what we end up landing on. But there's plans to
- 48:14Speaker 3: definitely travel more after this.
- 48:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:16Speaker 1: So this trip obviously got its claws in you and
- 48:19Speaker 1: you're eager to go back out definitely.
- 48:21Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, definitely. When we left, like oh yeah, this
- 48:23Speaker 3: is like all we'll do and then we'll be fine.
- 48:25Speaker 2: Yeah, we're like oh want and done. That's it, and
- 48:27Speaker 2: like nope, I want to go back. I miss it.
- 48:28Speaker 3: Yeah, Like honestly, before we were even like halfway done
- 48:31Speaker 3: more trip, like oh yeah, we can definitely do this longer,
- 48:33Speaker 3: like you could.
- 48:34Speaker 4: Definitely we can go out of places.
- 48:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:36Speaker 3: So we like to go through Asia. I really want
- 48:38Speaker 3: to go travel through Africa. Yeah, Europe was also very cool.
- 48:42Speaker 3: There's a lot of the world to see.
- 48:43Speaker 1: What are some of the things that you missed from
- 48:45Speaker 1: the road?
- 48:47Speaker 5: I miss like the people we met, Like it's just
- 48:50Speaker 5: so like organical at times, like oh you pull up
- 48:52Speaker 5: the same camp spot you found an eye overlander and.
- 48:55Speaker 2: Like oh, like where are you from? Like what are you?
- 48:56Speaker 2: Where are you driving to? And it's really cool just
- 48:59Speaker 2: making connections all as people.
- 49:00Speaker 3: I love the simplicity as well.
- 49:02Speaker 4: Yeah, where it's just there's.
- 49:04Speaker 3: Nothing because again, like I said, like our build was
- 49:06Speaker 3: very simple, So I was like, I like that there
- 49:08Speaker 3: wasn't a ton you have to think about.
- 49:10Speaker 4: Yeah, I like that all of our possessions were just there.
- 49:13Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's kind of nice to it, Oh, we're
- 49:15Speaker 3: gonna go do this, like okay, well this is here,
- 49:18Speaker 3: this is there, yeah, and basically like all of our
- 49:20Speaker 3: belongings are in arm reach, yeah, which is nice. And
- 49:23Speaker 3: just realizing truly how little we need.
- 49:26Speaker 5: To be happy, definitely, and like everything that is happening
- 49:30Speaker 5: in the moments all we really need to worry about,
- 49:32Speaker 5: because like when we're back home, we think of like, oh,
- 49:33Speaker 5: this is happening in like a few months with the
- 49:35Speaker 5: plant forlis or whatever, like all this stuff going on
- 49:38Speaker 5: at once, but one y're on the road, it's just like, oh,
- 49:40Speaker 5: we don't have to worry about what we're doing today
- 49:42Speaker 5: and yeah, maybe tomorrow what we're doing, but like you
- 49:44Speaker 5: don't think too hard.
- 49:47Speaker 1: You're gonna eat and what you're gonna do, yeah, and
- 49:49Speaker 1: maybe we're you're gonna get fuel or water or exactly shower.
- 49:53Speaker 2: It doesn't go beyond that, though, which is so nice.
- 49:55Speaker 3: Exactly. And I love the fact that it's, oh you
- 49:57Speaker 3: can just go yeah, oh well we'll see toy set
- 50:00Speaker 3: food and we'll just go there. You probably find water soon.
- 50:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:04Speaker 3: I just liked the idea that you just didn't really
- 50:06Speaker 3: have to think that much.
- 50:07Speaker 1: Yeah, it is kind of a radical way to live
- 50:09Speaker 1: right in these times. Yeah, everything is so fast and
- 50:14Speaker 1: complex or so much going on or so much stimulation,
- 50:18Speaker 1: you're always thinking about all the little things exactly. So
- 50:22Speaker 1: it's really refreshing to have that change in simplicity, isn't it. Yeah.
- 50:26Speaker 3: It's nice as well just to kind of just realize that.
- 50:29Speaker 3: Like a question that I got asked a lot when
- 50:30Speaker 3: we got home was, oh, what did you miss the
- 50:33Speaker 3: most from like having a home? I was like, nothing, really,
- 50:38Speaker 3: Like we had everything we needed and because we had
- 50:40Speaker 3: people on that must have been off on the having
- 50:42Speaker 3: a shower, not having a bathroom, we're having TV.
- 50:45Speaker 2: Or Wi Fi or what kind of embrace being a
- 50:47Speaker 2: dirt egg, Like.
- 50:49Speaker 3: I know both Vanessa and I would agree we're like
- 50:51Speaker 3: dirt bigs to our course, So we're like, this is
- 50:53Speaker 3: kind of just nice that we can be like this.
- 50:56Speaker 1: Yeah, it's kind of.
- 50:57Speaker 3: Funny because again realize like we really don't need that much.
- 51:00Speaker 3: And even we got home, we're like, oh, we can
- 51:01Speaker 3: get rid of a lot of stuff. We don't need
- 51:03Speaker 3: any of this.
- 51:04Speaker 2: Well that's the best. Yeah, we perched so much. We
- 51:06Speaker 2: go home. I still want to purge more stuff.
- 51:08Speaker 4: Oh yeah, we're still working through stuff.
- 51:09Speaker 1: Yeah, we just did that recently. Also went to our
- 51:12Speaker 1: storage locker. Yeah, don't need this, don't need this, don't
- 51:16Speaker 1: need this. Yeah, it felt amazing some of that stuff.
- 51:20Speaker 3: Because that was even where it was funny is because
- 51:22Speaker 3: I found like living in the truck as Wolf, people
- 51:23Speaker 3: were like, oh man, you probably have like used everything,
- 51:26Speaker 3: but there's so many things when like things are entire
- 51:29Speaker 3: trip was like, we can get rid.
- 51:30Speaker 2: Of this, we don't need this, really doesn't even touch
- 51:32Speaker 2: this this whole trip. What do we thought we needed?
- 51:34Speaker 1: What did you get rid of the trucker from our house?
- 51:38Speaker 1: From the truck like when you started out?
- 51:41Speaker 3: Okay, I'm not sure. Oh man, I'm trying to remember
- 51:47Speaker 3: now because well we I'm not mad about this, but
- 51:49Speaker 3: we had like way over built our electrical system because
- 51:53Speaker 3: like we need to prepared for everything, right, Yeah, we
- 51:55Speaker 3: had way more than what we needed. Yeah, so that
- 51:56Speaker 3: was totally fine, but definitely could have gone simpler on that.
- 52:00Speaker 3: We definitely could have simplified a lot of things. Yeah,
- 52:02Speaker 3: because there's things that I feel like we thought way
- 52:05Speaker 3: farther into can we need this, this and this? Yeah,
- 52:08Speaker 3: we didn't need any of that.
- 52:09Speaker 1: Yeah, it's easy to overthink when you're planning because you
- 52:12Speaker 1: don't really know sometimes exactly. Even on the second trip,
- 52:16Speaker 1: you may find that you're also overthinking, or pack too
- 52:20Speaker 1: much stuff, or don't pack the right stuff exactly.
- 52:22Speaker 3: But those are the things I feel like we had.
- 52:24Speaker 3: It's honestly just like a lot of like like odds
- 52:26Speaker 3: and ends. It wasn't anything like.
- 52:27Speaker 2: Big our NESSO tent was a big That was.
- 52:31Speaker 3: A big thing that we bought that we didn't really use.
- 52:33Speaker 5: It's like a portable like tent you can just like
- 52:35Speaker 5: take onto the beach and it was like a nice
- 52:37Speaker 5: little shade.
- 52:37Speaker 3: It's basically like a portable awning maybe to set it
- 52:40Speaker 3: up anywhere. Yeah, and we saw somebody who had one,
- 52:43Speaker 3: like a couple of years ago traveling. This isn't genius
- 52:45Speaker 3: we need this.
- 52:46Speaker 2: Oh, it's great for when you're on the beach all
- 52:47Speaker 2: day and don't have a vehicle with you that has
- 52:49Speaker 2: it awning.
- 52:50Speaker 3: But because that was the thing we bought it, we
- 52:52Speaker 3: used it and it was like it's big. It's like
- 52:56Speaker 3: sens of like a douffle bit.
- 52:56Speaker 2: It's huge.
- 52:58Speaker 3: Let me have this when we use did But it
- 53:00Speaker 3: was definitely like we should probably use this because we
- 53:03Speaker 3: brought this all the way here.
- 53:04Speaker 2: We made ourselves to use it.
- 53:06Speaker 3: We had an awning on the truck. In ninety percent
- 53:08Speaker 3: of the time, you're right next to your vehicle or
- 53:10Speaker 3: close to your vehicle if you're hanging out, so we're like,
- 53:12Speaker 3: we can just set this up and that works well.
- 53:14Speaker 2: We also bought the Naso tent, and we didn't think
- 53:17Speaker 2: we could install an awning onto the camp tech. But
- 53:19Speaker 2: you you dia wied something to make it work. So
- 53:22Speaker 2: I'm like, why we have now just for fun?
- 53:26Speaker 3: And then what was the other thing that we brought.
- 53:29Speaker 3: We I carried a lot of extra fluids, Like, yeah,
- 53:34Speaker 3: have enough to fix what you need, but like we
- 53:36Speaker 3: had like multiple gallons of everything.
- 53:42Speaker 2: You bought a lot of transmission fluid after.
- 53:45Speaker 3: Yeah, after we broke the transmission, I was paranoid. So
- 53:47Speaker 3: I just bought a lot of it. Yeah, and we
- 53:49Speaker 3: didn't need any of it, no, but we were prepared
- 53:52Speaker 3: for it.
- 53:52Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what masters.
- 53:54Speaker 3: So there's kind of like little things like even thinking
- 53:57Speaker 3: like we brought a lot more clothes than what we
- 53:58Speaker 3: thought we needed.
- 53:59Speaker 5: Yeah, we're the same, like three shirts, Like it's rotated
- 54:03Speaker 5: through them exactly.
- 54:04Speaker 3: So it could have definitely simplified a lot of our
- 54:06Speaker 3: wardrobe because you wear the same thing all the time.
- 54:09Speaker 5: Yeah, then it could have brought proper layers for the cold,
- 54:13Speaker 5: because we stupidly didn't bring like proper, like warm down jackets.
- 54:17Speaker 4: I didn't bring a jacket at all.
- 54:19Speaker 5: You had your atom jacket, your ar turks out of jacket.
- 54:21Speaker 5: But that's really light that it's not very warm.
- 54:23Speaker 3: Because I think people should know that are listening. There's
- 54:27Speaker 3: a thing called seasons that exist in other parts of
- 54:29Speaker 3: the world.
- 54:30Speaker 2: When it's summer in North America, it's winter in South America.
- 54:33Speaker 3: Yeah, so the equator's changed, So we basically chased winter
- 54:36Speaker 3: through the last year and a half. And yeah, that
- 54:40Speaker 3: wasn't super fun. We're s wearing a hoodie. Yeah, So
- 54:44Speaker 3: definitely planned where you're going to be and when you're
- 54:46Speaker 3: going to be there in the weather of what's going
- 54:47Speaker 3: to happen.
- 54:48Speaker 1: We also didn't know when we left ten years ago
- 54:52Speaker 1: that there are high elevations in Mexico.
- 54:54Speaker 2: And in really cold all of a sudden.
- 54:57Speaker 1: We also didn't we didn't have puffies, we didn't really
- 54:59Speaker 1: bring jackets, were wearing hoodies all over the place, and
- 55:02Speaker 1: we were freezing and didn't have proper gear exactly the
- 55:05Speaker 1: same reason as you guys, which seems ridiculous now looking
- 55:09Speaker 1: back at my you know, decade a decade ago from bloodstones.
- 55:15Speaker 3: Because really, oh how much will we use this?
- 55:18Speaker 5: We won't, Like you should bring hiking boots to the
- 55:20Speaker 5: freaking volcano hiking Guatemala, and we didn't.
- 55:22Speaker 2: Bloodstones in our feet. Were very mad.
- 55:24Speaker 3: I hate the volcano barefoots. I was wearing birkenstocks.
- 55:28Speaker 2: No, that was what we're walking down to, like to Ecuador.
- 55:33Speaker 3: Don't do that. That sucks those like little things. We're like, okay,
- 55:38Speaker 3: really really think through everything that you need in the
- 55:40Speaker 3: purpose why.
- 55:40Speaker 2: You need it, right, that's the big thing.
- 55:43Speaker 5: You don't need a ton, but just make sure everything
- 55:45Speaker 5: that you have has a purpose.
- 55:46Speaker 2: Yeah, good advice, good, I love it.
- 55:50Speaker 3: Yeah, everything should have multiple purposes.
- 55:52Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that too.
- 55:53Speaker 3: Took a Swiss army knife. You wanted to do like
- 55:55Speaker 3: at least two to twelve things?
- 55:57Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, offah, I think that was the big ones. Yeah.
- 56:02Speaker 1: Perfect, Yeah, one more question and then well we'll wrap
- 56:08Speaker 1: it up and you guys can continue on your merry way.
- 56:11Speaker 2: What are your favorite books.
- 56:16Speaker 3: Tell me to go first. My favorite book is The Alchemist.
- 56:20Speaker 3: So I read that. This is actually kind of funny
- 56:22Speaker 3: the way that this work is. I have kind of
- 56:24Speaker 3: like a theory if something gets brought up to me
- 56:26Speaker 3: multiple times, and I usually do this, like the Series
- 56:29Speaker 3: of Three. If it gets brought by three times by
- 56:30Speaker 3: three different people, whether it's people or it comes up
- 56:33Speaker 3: in a movie or whatever, I'm like, that's the universe
- 56:37Speaker 3: or whatever telling me that I should look into this.
- 56:40Speaker 3: And I remember the way this came up is if
- 56:42Speaker 3: Nasa and I had gone traveling five years ago and
- 56:48Speaker 3: that book kept getting brought up to me, I was like, okay,
- 56:51Speaker 3: I want to get it. And it was the day
- 56:52Speaker 3: we were leaving and I was like, crap, I don't
- 56:54Speaker 3: have time to run the bookstore, shoot whatever. And I
- 56:56Speaker 3: remember we were flying me had a layover and during
- 57:00Speaker 3: her layover as like, I'm just gonna go to the
- 57:02Speaker 3: gift shop, like if they have the book there, I'll
- 57:05Speaker 3: just buy it. If it's under twenty bucks, I'll buy it.
- 57:10Speaker 3: And it was funny because literally it was in the
- 57:12Speaker 3: center of the stand, like at the very top of it,
- 57:14Speaker 3: like it was like the key book that they were
- 57:17Speaker 3: like showcasing and it was nineteen seventy five, so I
- 57:20Speaker 3: was like, I guess I'm buying this And I have
- 57:23Speaker 3: read that book multiple times.
- 57:25Speaker 4: Is by far my favorite book.
- 57:26Speaker 3: And I'm awful at reading, and that's the only book
- 57:30Speaker 3: I've ever actually been like fully engrossed in where I
- 57:33Speaker 3: was like, I can't stop reading this, I need to
- 57:35Speaker 3: just keep going. H So that's my favorite book personally.
- 57:38Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not a huge book reader, but I'll say
- 57:41Speaker 5: a book that I've been really enjoying that I brought
- 57:43Speaker 5: on her trip is it's called Why Is No One
- 57:45Speaker 5: taught told me this before? And it's it's like a
- 57:47Speaker 5: self help book, but it's just more of like the
- 57:50Speaker 5: psychologist going over like common like mechanisms you can use
- 57:54Speaker 5: in your life to help you if you're struggling with
- 57:56Speaker 5: anxiety or whatever it is. And it's just really helpful,
- 57:58Speaker 5: especially on this trip with like all the different stuff
- 58:01Speaker 5: happening and everything constantly changing, like you feel nervous, you
- 58:04Speaker 5: feel stressed, or whatever you're feeling. And it was just
- 58:06Speaker 5: really nice having these tools at my hands that I
- 58:08Speaker 5: could just like refer back to and just like feel
- 58:11Speaker 5: like it's okay. You're gonna go through this and it'll
- 58:13Speaker 5: be fine kind of.
- 58:14Speaker 1: Yeah, fantastic.
- 58:16Speaker 2: This is great audio books. There's a lot of audiobooks too.
- 58:18Speaker 3: Yeah, that one. That one was nice though, because it
- 58:20Speaker 3: was one of those things as well, was like there's
- 58:21Speaker 3: obviously the stresses of being on the road, yeah, stresses
- 58:24Speaker 3: of like family at home.
- 58:26Speaker 4: Yeah, and based like just like life in general.
- 58:28Speaker 3: Okay, Yeah, this is like a lot of like time
- 58:31Speaker 3: just to think and be like, Okay, how can I
- 58:33Speaker 3: help myself in these situations?
- 58:35Speaker 4: Yeah, So it's quite beneficial.
- 58:37Speaker 3: It's a big like self growth time as well, because
- 58:39Speaker 3: obviously you're forcing yourself in doing a comfortable.
- 58:41Speaker 2: Oh yeah, you have to change when you're going through
- 58:44Speaker 2: all this stuff.
- 58:44Speaker 3: And you start to learn, my opinion, you start to
- 58:47Speaker 3: learn your outside of your comfort zone. Yeah, and pretty
- 58:49Speaker 3: much this entire trip.
- 58:50Speaker 2: Is outside of your comfort ye ni percent.
- 58:52Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's huge for that sense. Is you can
- 58:54Speaker 3: grow a lot as a person completely.
- 58:56Speaker 2: Yeah, it's very cool, very very cool. Yeah.
- 58:59Speaker 1: The most recent thing that I've kind of experienced is
- 59:03Speaker 1: more like overwhelm of seeing so many things but not
- 59:08Speaker 1: necessarily digesting or reflecting. Yeah, definitely, So having that time
- 59:12Speaker 1: to really absorb, yeah.
- 59:15Speaker 2: And reflect.
- 59:16Speaker 1: Yeah, but it's easier said than done because you're just
- 59:19Speaker 1: seeing things every single day, every single day, every single day,
- 59:22Speaker 1: something new, something new. When you're like researching the place
- 59:25Speaker 1: you're going and you want to learn about the history
- 59:26Speaker 1: and you want to learn about the food and you
- 59:28Speaker 1: want to talk to the people, and it's actually really
- 59:30Speaker 1: it's a lot.
- 59:31Speaker 5: Yet and you have to like plan ahead or else,
- 59:33Speaker 5: like you'll show up and be like, I have no
- 59:35Speaker 5: idea what to do right now.
- 59:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 59:37Speaker 3: It was funny because even like I was talking to
- 59:39Speaker 3: a client the other day, and it was funny because
- 59:42Speaker 3: like the conversation like free diving got brought up, and
- 59:46Speaker 3: I got into free diving and I was like, oh, yeah, this,
- 59:48Speaker 3: and one of the guys.
- 59:48Speaker 4: I worked with is like, why have you told us that?
- 59:51Speaker 3: I was like, I forgot about that till literally right now,
- 59:54Speaker 3: because I was like, that's just again, it's one moment
- 59:57Speaker 3: out of entire like section of like your life, and
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: you're like, oh.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: Yeah, was that in the Sinote in Mexico?
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: Yeah, basically almost drowned in the suit.
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:00:08Speaker 4: I don't listen to rules very well.
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: Did something stupid and they're okay, I'm just gonna.
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: I brought it up.
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: So there was an underwater tunnel that basically went from
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: one snow tape down quite a ways and then it
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: was like under water you could go out and there
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: was another snowdown on the other side. Yeah, that we
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: weren't allowed to go to.
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: You're curious, though, you want to curious.
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: I was like, oh, well, I want to go, like
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: just see like what it looks like inside the cave.
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: So swam down, swam into it, and I said okay,
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: and then I looked back and I was way farther
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: in than I thought I was in, So I said, okay,
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: well I have to go to the other side. So
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: to swim up the other side popped up. I was like, wait,
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: I'm not supposed to be here. So I panicked and
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: just like took quick breath and went back down and
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: swam down to go back to the other side. And
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: then I was like, shoot, you didn't really take a
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: breath when you were on the other side.
- 1:00:59Speaker 4: Yeah, so it's pretty scary.
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: I honestly, I definitely started to block out and I
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: just have to keep going and hopefully just make it
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: the surface.
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: Thankfully I did, and it was okay, but that was
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: not a fun experience.
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: I don't recommend that.
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't recommend that. Don't go something through caves.
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: That's very I'm not a guy at least if you're
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: doing that.
- 1:01:18Speaker 4: Yeah, I still don't do it. It's a very bad idea.
- 1:01:21Speaker 4: But thankful it was okay, but it was a very
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: close call.
- 1:01:25Speaker 5: Yeah, intense really just thinking about it now because.
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: That was the story I forgot about until like two
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: days ago.
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: Soon brought it up.
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a lot of inpute.
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: Going on every day. Yeah, every day.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: Yeah, speaking of input, So if people want to find
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: you guys online, where can they find you?

- 1:01:57Speaker 5: We have Facebook toa but we don't really post on
- 1:01:59Speaker 5: it very much. By stay Instagram and our YouTube channel.
- 1:02:01Speaker 5: I'm trying to post more on YouTube, but it just
- 1:02:04Speaker 5: like it's so much content to go through and everything.
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: I'm trying to keep up on it. But for sure
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: with us working now too, I'm like, oh my gosh, editing.
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: On the road when we left, man, we'll do a
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: video every week.
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that lasted one week I think, and they're like,
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: this is so much work to do a video. Yeah,
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: it definitely fell behind.
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: There's videos coming that are backdated a lot because.
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: There it's a lot more work than people think.
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely that's coming though.
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: Yeah, great, stay tuned. There'll be more on YouTube coming.
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: Good stuff. Yeah, I can't wait to see it. Yes,

- 1:02:53Speaker 1: on your builds.
