- 0:01Speaker 1: It's The Happy Family's.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Podcast, Merry Christmas, You're fealthy animal, and.
- 0:13Speaker 1: The Oscar goes to, oh my god, seeing here, I
- 0:21Speaker 1: know him. Well. Christmas is just around the corner. Have
- 0:25Speaker 1: you noticed, Kylie, there's this switch between where in one
- 0:28Speaker 1: breath we're relaxed and the then next breath we're stressed,
- 0:31Speaker 1: like we're trying to slow things down because everyone's going
- 0:34Speaker 1: on holidays, but there's so much to do. There's so
- 0:36Speaker 1: much going on.
- 0:37Speaker 3: I just want to slow down. I'm not doing anything.
- 0:41Speaker 3: I'm just hoping the kids are all going to catch
- 0:43Speaker 3: up with me.
- 0:44Speaker 1: There's a favorite quote mine. Yeah, that's right, there's a
- 0:47Speaker 1: favorite quote of mind that and it's particularly pertinent at
- 0:50Speaker 1: this point of the year when your kids are in
- 0:54Speaker 1: your arms they can't possibly be underfoot, because a lot
- 0:56Speaker 1: of parents at the moment saying other kids is just
- 0:58Speaker 1: under my feet all the time, and I'm trying to
- 0:59Speaker 1: get stuff and they're sitting around staring at screens and
- 1:01Speaker 1: doing nothing. We have got some solutions, by the way,
- 1:04Speaker 1: I'm justin your kilie, parents of six kids. Happy families
- 1:07Speaker 1: dot com dot you, the Happy Families podcast is bringing
- 1:10Speaker 1: you some solutions for Christmas. Joy Christmas Bliss. I know
- 1:16Speaker 1: that not everybody wants their kids to be watching screens
- 1:18Speaker 1: all the time, but the reality is sometimes you kind
- 1:21Speaker 1: of just have to right just to get through and
- 1:24Speaker 1: keep saying. So we've compiled, well, how do you.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Get the presents wrapped if they're not staring at a screen?
- 1:30Speaker 1: You got to stay up late. Then you're tired the
- 1:33Speaker 1: next day and cranky. So we have compiled a list
- 1:36Speaker 1: of our top I was going to say top five,
- 1:39Speaker 1: but there's no way we're going to. Last time we
- 1:40Speaker 1: talked favorite movies, we ended up having like Poor Od Jr.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Our producer. Instead of doing our top five movies for
- 1:46Speaker 1: whatever it was, we ended up doing like thirty. So
- 1:50Speaker 1: supposedly this is going to be our top five Christmas
- 1:52Speaker 1: movies for the kids, although I think we're going to
- 1:54Speaker 1: veer into some adult ones as well, to help your
- 1:58Speaker 1: family to have a happy Christmas, but also so that
- 1:59Speaker 1: you can some peace and quiet. The kids can be
- 2:01Speaker 1: watching Christmas, everyone can be getting into the spirit of Christmas.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Christmas music can be on. That's where we're going today.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Everyone can be baking gingerbread.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Hell, everyone, are you gonna bake ginger bread?
- 2:16Speaker 1: I was gonna say, how unrealistic is what I just said.
- 2:18Speaker 1: I've gone for the nostalgia, the romanticized version of what's happening.
- 2:21Speaker 1: So let's talk about Christmas movies before we g rated one,
- 2:27Speaker 1: before we get to sidetracked with all that sort of stuff. Kylie,
- 2:29Speaker 1: if you were to pick your all time favorite family
- 2:32Speaker 1: Christmas movie, what would it be?
- 2:34Speaker 3: I would have, once upon a time said the Polar Express.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Well you're coming.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Where?
- 2:43Speaker 1: Why?
- 2:43Speaker 2: To the North Pole? Of course?
- 2:45Speaker 1: This is the whole Express. Yeah, we used to love
- 2:49Speaker 1: that film.
- 2:49Speaker 3: But last year, when we watched a movie a night
- 2:53Speaker 3: for each day leading up to Christmas, we got introduced
- 2:57Speaker 3: to so many new movies. And I now have a
- 3:00Speaker 3: few favorites.
- 3:00Speaker 1: By the way, just before you talk about your favorites,
- 3:03Speaker 1: I think it's worth highlighting that we took on more
- 3:05Speaker 1: than we could handle by saying let's watch one Christmas
- 3:08Speaker 1: movie each day with the kids or each night. That
- 3:11Speaker 1: was exhausting. I couldn't stand it. It was just too
- 3:14Speaker 1: much TV and too many things to do. Anyway, we
- 3:16Speaker 1: did it, and now you've got a whole new list
- 3:18Speaker 1: of favorites.
- 3:20Speaker 3: And we can thank our staff for that because they
- 3:21Speaker 3: actually introduced us to a couple that have now become
- 3:24Speaker 3: literally my top three.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Okay, so number one I'm gonna say Klaus, Mister Klaus,
- 3:30Speaker 1: you have a gift you were meant from making toys.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Oh yeah, okay, so that's a Netflix special.
- 3:39Speaker 3: You know the background behind klausse that because it was
- 3:42Speaker 3: such an untraditional story, DreamWorks and Disney wouldn't.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Pick it up, right, So for Netflix, Netflix got an
- 3:50Speaker 1: unlimited budget. Let's do whatever we want.
- 3:52Speaker 3: And I just love the take on the Christmas story
- 3:55Speaker 3: that this movie portrays.
- 3:57Speaker 1: So for those of you who haven't seen it, there's
- 3:58Speaker 1: a boy who's being raised by a rich dad. Rich
- 4:00Speaker 1: dad's very cranky at the boy. It's a cartoon by
- 4:02Speaker 1: the way, because he's entitled and selfish and rich dad
- 4:06Speaker 1: owns like the postal system in their country, so he
- 4:10Speaker 1: sends his son to the most far reaching outposts.
- 4:14Speaker 3: Smehrenberg. It's labeled the saddest place on Earth, and you
- 4:18Speaker 3: see it in the depiction of the animation. Everything's just
- 4:22Speaker 3: great hate.
- 4:23Speaker 1: What do you guys think you're doing? This is Smirnsburg,
- 4:26Speaker 1: the unhappiest police on Earth, and there are two warring
- 4:30Speaker 1: families who just hate each other and there is no
- 4:32Speaker 1: postage service there like nobody actually, no one writes a letter.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Everybody hates each other. And it's the story of how
- 4:39Speaker 1: this young man, well, it's a coming of age and
- 4:43Speaker 1: it's a hero story. He saves the town, he becomes
- 4:46Speaker 1: a person who falls in love with the spirit of
- 4:48Speaker 1: Christmas and changes everything. It's a great movie.
- 4:51Speaker 3: My second one is going to be Arthur Christmas.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Oh hello, Phil El's jingle Jingle, Jingle, Tim eighteen point
- 5:02Speaker 2: one four second crowns life.
- 5:05Speaker 1: We've got a staff member, Elizabeth, who told us how
- 5:07Speaker 1: great the Christmas was, and it was. It was an
- 5:10Speaker 1: absolute joy. We made this. I survive, I'll walk home,
- 5:17Speaker 1: I'll get a boat, but I am never getting back
- 5:20Speaker 1: in that crazy flying death trap ever again.
- 5:23Speaker 3: I just I loved it. Here's this kid, he's Santa Claus,
- 5:26Speaker 3: his son, and he just loves Christmas. But he gets
- 5:30Speaker 3: in the way, is it glutz everything? But he ended
- 5:34Speaker 3: up actually saving Christmas this time.
- 5:35Speaker 1: What's your third one?
- 5:36Speaker 2: Okay, people, tomorrow morning to damn Santa's coming down?
- 5:42Speaker 1: Oh my god, Santa here else? I know him so
- 5:47Speaker 1: much fun.
- 5:48Speaker 3: I probably would never ever have watched this. It has
- 5:52Speaker 3: will Farrell and I don't really like him very much
- 5:54Speaker 3: as an actor, and I probably wouldn't have put it
- 5:57Speaker 3: in as a kid's movie as a result of him
- 6:00Speaker 3: being in it.
- 6:01Speaker 1: He's absurd, He's absolutely ridiculously over the top absurd.
- 6:05Speaker 3: You stink.
- 6:06Speaker 1: I think you're gonna have a good Christmas like beef
- 6:09Speaker 1: and cheese. You don't smell Xander. Okay, that's what makes
- 6:18Speaker 1: it so delight so good. So are there any other
- 6:21Speaker 1: great kids Christmas movies that you think we should mention?
- 6:24Speaker 1: Because that's only three. I said we were going to
- 6:26Speaker 1: do like our top five.
- 6:27Speaker 3: I don't think you can go past a Christmas movie
- 6:29Speaker 3: list without giving a mention to Home Alone.
- 6:33Speaker 1: I made my family disappear.
- 6:38Speaker 3: We all grew up with that movie, and it still
- 6:41Speaker 3: has to be on the top. I'd say top ten movies.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Ever great slapstick comedy, and our children, even our teenagers,
- 6:49Speaker 1: watch that and laugh their heads off. Harry, I'm on,
- 6:54Speaker 1: Perry Mount, come on get me, you guys, give up.
- 7:02Speaker 2: You're thirsty for more.
- 7:03Speaker 3: And the last one I'm going to mention would be
- 7:06Speaker 3: Santa Claus with Tim Allen.
- 7:07Speaker 2: What you put on a little week a little weight?
- 7:10Speaker 2: Does this look like a little weight.
- 7:11Speaker 1: To you wait can fluctuate from you to ear fluctuate
- 7:16Speaker 1: you make it sound like and retaining water.
- 7:18Speaker 2: I've given forty five pounds in a week.
- 7:21Speaker 3: Here's this guy who single handedly destroys Christmas by interrupting
- 7:27Speaker 3: Santa as he's trying to go down at chimney and.
- 7:29Speaker 1: He falls off the roof her Santa or tim Ellen
- 7:38Speaker 1: Santa okay.
- 7:39Speaker 3: And so his son sees it all happenings. You have
- 7:43Speaker 3: literally killed Christmas.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Killed Sannah.
- 7:47Speaker 3: So much fun.
- 7:48Speaker 1: After the break, we're going to talk about a handful
- 7:51Speaker 1: of other Christmas movies that may or may not suit
- 7:54Speaker 1: the whole family, but you as a parent might really enjoy.
- 7:57Speaker 3: It's the Happy Families Podcast, and hopefully today we've given
- 8:08Speaker 3: you a few options to keep the kids occupied so
- 8:12Speaker 3: you can do your.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Centering if that's necessary.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Wink quink.
- 8:17Speaker 1: So there's a couple of movies that we didn't mention
- 8:19Speaker 1: that I think need an honorable recognition. The first one
- 8:23Speaker 1: is Christmas Chronicles.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Damn.
- 8:29Speaker 1: And a snow.
- 8:30Speaker 2: It's the following on the ground.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Now. You actually were putting it on your list and
- 8:35Speaker 1: I said, ah, you know it's not really that good.
- 8:37Speaker 1: You're a trick ster.
- 8:38Speaker 3: You just did it so you can have it on yours.
- 8:40Speaker 1: No, no, no, it's not what happened. What actually happened
- 8:42Speaker 1: was that we watched the We watched the trailer, and
- 8:45Speaker 1: I was like, oh, that is a really good movie.
- 8:47Speaker 1: I did enjoy that movie quite a lot. And of
- 8:49Speaker 1: course there are a couple of other movies that again
- 8:51Speaker 1: Christmas confession. Not only have I not seen The Santa clause,
- 8:54Speaker 1: I haven't seen Bad Center, what about The Rain Deer?
- 8:57Speaker 3: Would you please shut up about Reindeer?
- 8:59Speaker 1: And I haven't seen The Holiday.
- 9:01Speaker 2: You're not Irish, or if you are, I'm much dronker
- 9:04Speaker 2: than I realized.
- 9:05Speaker 1: But everybody says that those must watch grown up movies
- 9:09Speaker 1: for Christmas.
- 9:10Speaker 3: So I guess we're going to have few movie nights then.
- 9:13Speaker 1: I still don't know if I want to watch them,
- 9:14Speaker 1: to be honest, but everyone's been saying, you've got to
- 9:16Speaker 1: talk about those movies. They're amazing. So we've talked about
- 9:18Speaker 1: them even though we haven't seen them. Is that cheating?
- 9:21Speaker 3: That's so cheating. Seriously, I hope you don't get in trouble.
- 9:24Speaker 3: You don't even know what's in them.
- 9:26Speaker 1: On top of that, though, I think we've got to acknowledge, well,
- 9:28Speaker 1: Christmas is not a time of faith for everybody. There
- 9:32Speaker 1: are a lot of people who listen to the podcast,
- 9:33Speaker 1: and there are millions upon millions, tens of millions of
- 9:36Speaker 1: people around the world who do have a religious faith.
- 9:38Speaker 1: And there are some really wonderful, religiously oriented, faith producing,
- 9:43Speaker 1: faith promoting movies about the Nativity. Different churches have them,
- 9:46Speaker 1: They're available online, they're often free, and I think that
- 9:49Speaker 1: sometimes it's nice to just pause and say this is meaningful,
- 9:52Speaker 1: even if it's not your religious faith, to talk to
- 9:54Speaker 1: the kids about what the background is. Find one of
- 9:55Speaker 1: the short ones, the ten or twenty minute ones that
- 9:58Speaker 1: just step through it. I think that that can help
- 10:00Speaker 1: to appreciate what Christmas is all about for millions and
- 10:04Speaker 1: millions of people around the world. We really hope that
- 10:06Speaker 1: you've enjoyed the Happy Families podcast today and that it's
- 10:09Speaker 1: given you a little bit of inspiration or just some
- 10:11Speaker 1: nice reminiscence about how good the entertainment can be around
- 10:15Speaker 1: Christmas time. We hope that these movies inspire you and
- 10:18Speaker 1: your family to goodness and kindness and service and fun
- 10:24Speaker 1: for this Christmas. The Happy Families Podcast is produced by
- 10:27Speaker 1: Justin Roulin from Bridge Media and if you'd like more
- 10:30Speaker 1: information about making a family happier across Christmas, we did

- 10:37Speaker 1: Be Cranky? But there's also another webinar called how to
- 10:40Speaker 1: Unspoil Your Kids This Christmas. They're both available in the
