- 0:07Speaker 1: Everybody.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Welcome into the Irish Theaters Podcast, the podcast for Pittsburgh
- 0:10Speaker 2: Stears fans across the island of Ireland. Coming into a
- 0:14Speaker 2: little bye week for the Staters this week and sitting
- 0:17Speaker 2: on a very good, positive winning record before we talk
- 0:19Speaker 2: about that. Delighted to be joined by two lads just
- 0:23Speaker 2: back from Pittsburgh around the week ago, Jimmy English and
- 0:27Speaker 2: Dabog m Key before we enter eye before we enter
- 0:31Speaker 2: our bye week. Jimmy, it's good to see how you.
- 0:34Speaker 3: I am.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Fantastic.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Michael, Yeah, just about recovered from Pittsburgh now, to be
- 0:37Speaker 3: honest with you. So it was very strange watching the
- 0:41Speaker 3: game back this morning. Obviously I didn't stay up because
- 0:44Speaker 3: I need my sleep. I watching the game and just
- 0:49Speaker 3: thinking to myself, Jason, I was sitting there in acro
- 0:51Speaker 3: shirt not even two weeks ago. So definitely appreciative of
- 0:57Speaker 3: having gotten to experience that environment and a night game
- 1:01Speaker 3: against a good opponent and a good game. So definitely
- 1:04Speaker 3: need to get back to Pittsburgh at some stage in
- 1:06Speaker 3: the near future. But yeah, great to get the win.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Great to be sitting at top of the AOC North
- 1:11Speaker 3: as we go into the bye week. So yeah, let's
- 1:14Speaker 3: let's keep it rolling out.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Let's keep it rolling and dovog for people that can't
- 1:20Speaker 2: see you, you came in and a lot you came
- 1:22Speaker 2: in and out of that stream on a bluster with
- 1:24Speaker 2: your Wi Fi. I was just just in terms of
- 1:25Speaker 2: what Jimmy was saying, I appreciate you boys last week.
- 1:29Speaker 2: I couldn't get on the podcast that it was great
- 1:30Speaker 2: to listen to you guys just sort of talk for
- 1:33Speaker 2: your time and see obviously all the photos. Actually, I
- 1:37Speaker 2: think I took a day off social media, popped on
- 1:39Speaker 2: Instagram and seeing all the cracks. So look grass lads,
- 1:42Speaker 2: as it is, it's class to see and dovogue. Jimmy
- 1:46Speaker 2: was saying that he needs to sleep. I last night
- 1:49Speaker 2: I thought, you know what the clocks have changed for us.
- 1:51Speaker 2: They haven't changed over obviously over in North America yet.
- 1:54Speaker 2: And yeah, it was it was nice watching primetime football
- 1:58Speaker 2: and midnight were taxing a little bit very briefly during
- 2:02Speaker 2: the game. And we will talk about the game now,
- 2:05Speaker 2: but do you long to go back after watching it
- 2:08Speaker 2: last night? For example? First game back?
- 2:11Speaker 4: Absolutely, I was watching it Magelan just thinking it's hard
- 2:14Speaker 4: to believe myself and Jimmy were there a week ago.
- 2:16Speaker 4: It doesn't feel real, but it's good to see that
- 2:20Speaker 4: our our our presence wasn't missed anyway, because they end
- 2:24Speaker 4: up going on and winning the game anyway, as you'd expect.
- 2:27Speaker 4: So rolling into the Bay. Just obviously a note on
- 2:30Speaker 4: getting the watch football at midnight. Unfortunately it ends this
- 2:33Speaker 4: weekend because the class go back in America now next week,
- 2:36Speaker 4: so we're back to square one. But yeah, had had
- 2:39Speaker 4: to use it whatever way we could, and good to
- 2:41Speaker 4: get a Steelers win just before the Bay as well,
- 2:44Speaker 4: so I'm absolutely buzzing't oologies again for the Wi Fi
- 2:46Speaker 4: can action timing in and out there. I don't know,
- 2:48Speaker 4: I miss completely everything what Jimmy said, but you know yourself,
- 2:51Speaker 4: make this candy to your own. WiFi needs a needed sorting.
- 2:53Speaker 2: I think it's not it's not good. Actually missed the
- 2:56Speaker 2: podcast last week because of that Wi Fi. But back
- 2:58Speaker 2: to the NFL Talk. Look, it's obviously great that everybody
- 3:02Speaker 2: here and appreciate everyone listening to the podcast as well.
- 3:04Speaker 2: I met two people in Belfast this week they say
- 3:07Speaker 2: they listened to the podcast, so that's really really cool,
- 3:09Speaker 2: and shout out to all the Stailers fans across the
- 3:11Speaker 2: island of Ireland. Let's just jump into it. Obviously last
- 3:14Speaker 2: night on Monday Night Football at the time of recording
- 3:17Speaker 2: this Tuesday evening, twenty sixty eighteen victors. Before we hear
- 3:21Speaker 2: from coach Tomlin, Jimmy, look, there's a lot of positives
- 3:24Speaker 2: and we will go into it like any good team
- 3:27Speaker 2: and like any up and down performance. Sometimes it took
- 3:30Speaker 2: a while for this game to get going. Field goals
- 3:33Speaker 2: were dominated, especially in the first half of the game,
- 3:36Speaker 2: and I think a lot of yensers were sitting like myself, thinking, God,
- 3:41Speaker 2: I hope this game doesn't get away from us. Obviously
- 3:44Speaker 2: the team turned it on in the second half, but
- 3:46Speaker 2: even in the first half when it was majority special
- 3:48Speaker 2: teams or field goals, getting this over the line of situations,
- 3:51Speaker 2: We've seen the balls get down the field, whether that's
- 3:54Speaker 2: passing or running, and it feels like they're just sort
- 3:57Speaker 2: of fine shooting that offense. And granted it's only what
- 4:00Speaker 2: game two or Game three with Russell wilthmounder centers, so
- 4:02Speaker 2: I guess it's going to take a bit of time.
- 4:05Speaker 2: How was your reaction watching the game back?
- 4:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean my first reactions Mick, where hopefully we
- 4:11Speaker 3: don't have as slow as start as we did against
- 4:13Speaker 3: the Jets, And I think Russell Wilson got up to
- 4:16Speaker 3: speed a lot quicker. Having that game against the Jets
- 4:18Speaker 3: under his belt, he was able to distribute the ball
- 4:21Speaker 3: a lot cleaner. He just played a much better connection
- 4:24Speaker 3: with George Pickens. Obviously speaking to George Pickens, he had
- 4:28Speaker 3: the two touchdowns this allowed both for various reasons. The
- 4:32Speaker 3: first one, I was a bit chagrin that Broderck Jones
- 4:34Speaker 3: had the untimely face mass, so we should have had
- 4:38Speaker 3: another touchdown there. But great to see the offense getting
- 4:41Speaker 3: rolling and building on the momentum from last week's game.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Nagee Harris was just running absolutely angry, which is fantastic
- 4:49Speaker 3: to see. So you know, the offense it's slowly building.
- 4:54Speaker 3: We are seeing a lot of positivity and look again,
- 4:59Speaker 3: similar to think last week of the year, we had
- 5:01Speaker 3: the Beanie Bishop interception which kind of sparked a bit
- 5:05Speaker 3: of a reaction from our offense. I think this time
- 5:07Speaker 3: around it was Calvin Austin's punt return which kind of
- 5:12Speaker 3: gave the offense a bit of a lift and a
- 5:13Speaker 3: bit of a boost and I think from that point
- 5:15Speaker 3: on it was only going to go one way, and
- 5:18Speaker 3: that was the Steelers way. And I think we have
- 5:21Speaker 3: to mention as well, the fact that the Giants kind
- 5:23Speaker 3: of shot themselves in the foot a little bit with
- 5:25Speaker 3: eleven accepted penalties for sixty five yards there was one
- 5:28Speaker 3: at one stage it seemed like every play the Giants
- 5:31Speaker 3: had was the penalty, and there were some curious drops
- 5:34Speaker 3: as well. Malik Neighbors was kind of was held in
- 5:37Speaker 3: check definitely. And look, you know, we talk about the
- 5:42Speaker 3: development one offense and the fact that we're seeing Russell
- 5:44Speaker 3: Wilson grow into a week and week and have that
- 5:46Speaker 3: fantastic connection with its receivers and spreading the ball around.
- 5:50Speaker 3: We can't discount the effort of the defense either. I
- 5:53Speaker 3: mentioned Beanie Bishop had another interception towards the end of
- 5:55Speaker 3: the game, TJ one and Alex Heismid two sacks eat
- 6:00Speaker 3: TJ want with that with that crucial and sack fumble
- 6:04Speaker 3: and recovery laid in the late in the fourth quarter.
- 6:07Speaker 3: So again, it was a comprehensive team performance. Both sides
- 6:10Speaker 3: of the of the ball played extremely well. And yeah,
- 6:13Speaker 3: sitting pretty on top of the AFC North head into
- 6:15Speaker 3: the bye week. So I think at this stage our
- 6:18Speaker 3: expectations have been exceeded based on what being kind of
- 6:23Speaker 3: talking about it towards this earlier on in the season,
- 6:26Speaker 3: and look as a fan, I'm definitely happy.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Yeah, we're gonna have a little podcast out towards the
- 6:33Speaker 2: end of the week where we look back on the
- 6:34Speaker 2: last few weeks, talk about our expectations and and sort
- 6:37Speaker 2: of look through that as well. So do stead tune
- 6:40Speaker 2: flop because it is a bye week for the Seedlers
- 6:42Speaker 2: this weekend, and Jimmy's you know, spot on as well.
- 6:45Speaker 2: We'll talk about this in the other podcast. A lot
- 6:47Speaker 2: of stuff going on in the AFC North there as well.
- 6:50Speaker 2: I've seen your tweet last night a bit, George Pickens.
- 6:52Speaker 2: I felt from twice there like you sort of felt like,
- 6:54Speaker 2: when's this guy gonna have the look? But then if
- 6:57Speaker 2: you go back and actually read the rule book, it
- 6:59Speaker 2: does say but feet, not two feet. But for a
- 7:02Speaker 2: split second last night I was thinking, just give him
- 7:05Speaker 2: a touchdown. It was such a great catch as well,
- 7:07Speaker 2: it's gonna come. It is gonna come. I feel like
- 7:09Speaker 2: it's gonna come maybe in week ten.
- 7:12Speaker 4: Yeah, and I mentioned it as well. It's the second
- 7:15Speaker 4: time I believe this year where if all he had
- 7:18Speaker 4: to do was drag his feet, I recall, Jimmy you
- 7:20Speaker 4: mentioned it as well. You know he's not in college anymore.
- 7:23Speaker 4: He needs to learn got it both feet on the ground.
- 7:25Speaker 4: I think it was against Danver. We're an easy completion
- 7:28Speaker 4: and instead of dragging his feet, he struggled to get
- 7:31Speaker 4: both in. But you know, it was just like that.
- 7:34Speaker 4: It was far from perfect. Not every game has to
- 7:36Speaker 4: be perfect to win, you know, twenty two straight home
- 7:38Speaker 4: wins on Monday night football is a great feet as well.
- 7:41Speaker 4: And the first half misshops of course, lad us down
- 7:44Speaker 4: the game could have been out of sight by then.
- 7:46Speaker 4: Of course they brought out Jones face mass which Jimmy's
- 7:48Speaker 4: alluded to, you know, the George Pekins and ability to
- 7:50Speaker 4: get both feet in. But overall we got the job done.
- 7:53Speaker 4: That's the main thing. It was always a toss up,
- 7:56Speaker 4: you know, just coming back on the Michael, it was
- 7:57Speaker 4: always a toss up between which Russell Wilson we were
- 8:00Speaker 4: going to get the Seattle Russell or the Denver Russell.
- 8:02Speaker 4: It looks like we're very early on. We've got the
- 8:04Speaker 4: answer to that.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Question.
- 8:05Speaker 4: He looks tuned in more than ever he did in Denver,
- 8:08Speaker 4: and the change of quarterback, of course has clearly has
- 8:10Speaker 4: a potu has had a positive impact on the whole situation.
- 8:15Speaker 4: The running game has improved three straight games over one
- 8:17Speaker 4: hundred yards for nause, he looks possessed, just as Jimmy's
- 8:21Speaker 4: mentioned there jumping over tackles. We're seeing the productivity of
- 8:25Speaker 4: our receivers, Calvin Austin especially establishing the fans as a
- 8:28Speaker 4: dangerous draft in both the past game and the return game.
- 8:31Speaker 4: And Von Jefferson as well. He's look like a solid
- 8:33Speaker 4: pick up at this rate. So very happy offensively of
- 8:36Speaker 4: where we're at. Defensively, though, was a little surprised at
- 8:40Speaker 4: the success the Gyants got on the rung game. I mean,
- 8:42Speaker 4: as a tyrone, Tracy Junior had a game for them,
- 8:44Speaker 4: you know, a massive game over one hundred and forty
- 8:46Speaker 4: yards and ultimately you know, to be heading Saven two,
- 8:49Speaker 4: heading into the BI week ourselves at the top of
- 8:51Speaker 4: the FC North. I don't think we could have asked
- 8:53Speaker 4: for much more. Just as Jimmy said, there acceeded expectations
- 8:57Speaker 4: in my opinion, so really happy with where we're at.
- 8:59Speaker 4: At the moment, let's just keep this ship rolling off
- 9:01Speaker 4: of the valby.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Yeah, and let's just for we maybe break down in
- 9:04Speaker 2: this game a little more. Let's hear from coach Tomlin
- 9:06Speaker 2: after that. I'll win on Monday night football.
- 9:09Speaker 5: Man, really appreciative of our efforts. It wasn't as fluid
- 9:12Speaker 5: as we'd like, Man, but that's football. We got to
- 9:15Speaker 5: guard against style, points and things of that nature. Man,
- 9:18Speaker 5: it was prime time television and football against the team
- 9:22Speaker 5: that came in here with a good mindset.
- 9:25Speaker 1: We shot ourselves in the foot some early.
- 9:27Speaker 5: Man settling for three, We gave up a couple of
- 9:30Speaker 5: big plays that allowed them to generate some scoring drives.
- 9:34Speaker 5: They kicked three, But I just liked the overall look
- 9:37Speaker 5: of the group. At halftime, we acknowledged where we were.
- 9:40Speaker 5: We acknowledged we needed some plays, man, to break this
- 9:42Speaker 5: thing open. And I had a bunch of guys that
- 9:44Speaker 5: wanted to be the reason why we were successful. Can't
- 9:48Speaker 5: say enough about Calvin Man. I just thought, you know,
- 9:51Speaker 5: that's a big play. That punt return. Man was a
- 9:54Speaker 5: catalyst for us. Again, as I mentioned, we just got
- 9:57Speaker 5: a lot of guys that want to be the reasons
- 9:59Speaker 5: why t j Watt, Alex high Smith Man, I thought
- 10:03Speaker 5: really provided really consistent pressure, particularly in the second half.
- 10:08Speaker 5: We're We're just thankful to be six and two at
- 10:11Speaker 5: the turn. We need this down time and to get
- 10:15Speaker 5: get some guys healthy. We had some bumps and bruises
- 10:18Speaker 5: associated with play, but I think that everyone that went
- 10:21Speaker 5: down in game was able to return.
- 10:24Speaker 6: Like the fourth straight week, special teams making a splash
- 10:27Speaker 6: play up that when you say, don't just thinking insufficiency
- 10:30Speaker 6: and effected this issue.
- 10:31Speaker 5: You know, it's a legitimate phase of the game for us.
- 10:34Speaker 5: We give it that respect, not only in words, but
- 10:37Speaker 5: in our approach in how we work. And you know,
- 10:41Speaker 5: the guys make it make it real with their efforts,
- 10:45Speaker 5: not only Calvin, but I just saw a couple of
- 10:47Speaker 5: guys that secured really really sharp blocks. Man, They're blocking
- 10:52Speaker 5: towards their inline and they shielded as opposed to you know,
- 10:56Speaker 5: forcible blocks. And it's just a display of football understanding.
- 10:59Speaker 5: And we're not gonna be great unless we're not only
- 11:02Speaker 5: good at techniques but display football understanding. And I'd be
- 11:06Speaker 5: remiss if I didn't mention those those guys. I think
- 11:09Speaker 5: one of them was Rodney Williams.
- 11:12Speaker 4: You sent us another step forward for Russ in his plot.
- 11:16Speaker 5: You know, I just thought he you know, he didn't
- 11:19Speaker 5: need to warm up to it, you know, a little
- 11:20Speaker 5: less rust than the week before, but I'm not surprised
- 11:23Speaker 5: by his capabilities, if that's what you mean.
- 11:26Speaker 3: Coach your thoughts on.
- 11:27Speaker 7: The running game one hundred and sixty seven yards today.
- 11:31Speaker 5: You know, it was really impressive, again, considering some of
- 11:34Speaker 5: the circumstances. Can't say enough about guys like Ryan McCullum
- 11:37Speaker 5: man who are getting an opportunity to step up and
- 11:40Speaker 5: put their hand in the pile and carve out space
- 11:42Speaker 5: to themselves in this thing. We talk too much about
- 11:45Speaker 5: guys that you know, we don't have in this business,
- 11:48Speaker 5: and there's always other deserving men on the other end
- 11:51Speaker 5: of that conversation who are getting an opportunity. And Ryan
- 11:54Speaker 5: McCullum is one of those guys and a major component
- 11:57Speaker 5: of why we were successful in terms of running the football.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Great to hear for Couch Tomlin as we roll on
- 12:04Speaker 2: with his Irisceivers podcast. Jimmy, just a couple of points
- 12:07Speaker 2: before we hear from some players. First off, you sort
- 12:09Speaker 2: of mentioned it yourself at the start of the podcast,
- 12:11Speaker 2: but over one hundred rushing yards for Najie Harris. That's
- 12:15Speaker 2: not what I want to talk about generally, but it
- 12:17Speaker 2: feels to me like he's playing some of the best
- 12:19Speaker 2: football of his career. He looks so much more confident.
- 12:22Speaker 2: He's bulked up a little bit as well. But at
- 12:24Speaker 2: the same time, I feel like his athleticism has reached
- 12:27Speaker 2: that next level. It's always good when you got a
- 12:29Speaker 2: dulo triple flat in the running game and he just
- 12:32Speaker 2: looks alive. But he looks fantastic at the middle.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Yeah, And I think the fact that it's a contract
- 12:37Speaker 3: year for him Mack has played a little part in
- 12:40Speaker 3: his recent success and his recent up swing, if you will.
- 12:44Speaker 3: I mean throughout the first kind of four or four
- 12:46Speaker 3: games of the season, I think he really kind of
- 12:48Speaker 3: struggled to get going. It was really I suppose in
- 12:51Speaker 3: the Chargers, the Chargers game, the Raiders game, and now
- 12:56Speaker 3: obviously the Jets and this week where he's he's kind
- 12:58Speaker 3: of come alive a little bit. He's running her purpose,
- 13:01Speaker 3: he's running angry, as you say, he's his agility and
- 13:06Speaker 3: athleticism have improved. He had that hurdle there he went
- 13:09Speaker 3: up in the air to have evaded tackle last night
- 13:13Speaker 3: as well. So it's great to see him playing through
- 13:16Speaker 3: his strengths and really getting back to that key role
- 13:20Speaker 3: within the Steelers offense. But as you mentioned as well,
- 13:23Speaker 3: it's great to have that kind of one two combination
- 13:25Speaker 3: with Jalen Harris as well. I feel like Jenen Harris
- 13:30Speaker 3: was sorry Jen and Jeren Warren's performance was almost overshadowed
- 13:33Speaker 3: a little bit last night by Nalgi. But he's a
- 13:36Speaker 3: good complimentary back and I think I mean, when you
- 13:40Speaker 3: have two running backs and the defenses have to accommodate
- 13:44Speaker 3: or allowed for the run stop, that's where the passing
- 13:46Speaker 3: lanes open up. And having a good run offense opens
- 13:50Speaker 3: up the passing game. And we've seen the benefit of
- 13:52Speaker 3: that in the past two weeks with Russell Wilson taking
- 13:56Speaker 3: some of those deep shots and having the time and
- 13:58Speaker 3: ability to take those deep shots. And I was reading
- 14:00Speaker 3: an article there on Steeters dot com or NFL dot
- 14:03Speaker 3: com earlier about Russell Wilson's quote unquote moon balls. He's
- 14:07Speaker 3: known for these deep arcing passes, which with some he
- 14:10Speaker 3: has a lot of touch, a lot of finesse, and
- 14:13Speaker 3: George Pickens and co. Were saying that the ball just
- 14:15Speaker 3: kind of drops into their arms, which is which as
- 14:18Speaker 3: a receiver is exactly what you want. So definitely having
- 14:21Speaker 3: Russell Wilson at the helm of that offense has opened
- 14:24Speaker 3: up a lot more passing attacks, I think, But it
- 14:27Speaker 3: all comes down to the run and Nagie, Harris and
- 14:30Speaker 3: Jell and Warner two is the best in the business
- 14:32Speaker 3: right now, even if the productivity hasn't quite appeared yet.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Do just for we hear from a couple of players.
- 14:37Speaker 2: It's great to see a guy that we've seen a
- 14:39Speaker 2: couple of times and spoke to numerous times on this
- 14:41Speaker 2: podcast this year, Calvin Austin get that big. You know,
- 14:45Speaker 2: he's had a couple of big moments over the last
- 14:47Speaker 2: few weeks, but to see that big moment, especially last night,
- 14:49Speaker 2: it's great to see one callback as well. He feels
- 14:52Speaker 2: like he's just gaming confidence and it makes you think
- 14:55Speaker 2: man like by week coming in, chance to regroup, transfer reset,
- 14:59Speaker 2: chance to to rest the legs here and get going
- 15:02Speaker 2: again for the second stretch of the season. He's a
- 15:04Speaker 2: guy that we could look at that can really hit
- 15:05Speaker 2: another level in the second part of the season.
- 15:08Speaker 4: Absolutely, Micky, he's as say, he's a stabbling himself now
- 15:11Speaker 4: as the number two wide receiver. Each ever since Russ
- 15:14Speaker 4: has come in, he's have confidence in him to throwing
- 15:17Speaker 4: the ball and obviously in the in the return game,
- 15:19Speaker 4: I think he is putting up legistary starts as well,
- 15:22Speaker 4: which is crazy. So he's developing into that next level
- 15:25Speaker 4: player that we were hoping he would. Obviously, getting to
- 15:28Speaker 4: speak to him in Belfast as well, it was a
- 15:29Speaker 4: great honor, of course getting the speak to and he
- 15:31Speaker 4: Steelers an honor, but we knew from that day on
- 15:34Speaker 4: that how determined he was just to get to that
- 15:37Speaker 4: next level. And of course you know he hasn't maybe
- 15:39Speaker 4: got the saze of all the receivers that that you
- 15:42Speaker 4: would want, but again, you know, he's one of those
- 15:45Speaker 4: first help components that we're going to be able to
- 15:47Speaker 4: keep on and yeah, two touchdowns last night, that's only
- 15:50Speaker 4: going to help his confidence going forward and the rest
- 15:52Speaker 4: of the team. So shout it, massive shout out to
- 15:54Speaker 4: Russell Wilson for finding that confidence to help him out
- 15:57Speaker 4: as well. And I'm really excited to see where he
- 15:59Speaker 4: can go from here.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Absolutely, and let's actually hear from some of the guys
- 16:03Speaker 2: that we're gonna hear from TJ. Watch George Pickens among
- 16:05Speaker 2: overs on the Irish Theaters podcast after a big win
- 16:08Speaker 2: against the Giants.
- 16:10Speaker 8: Can you talk a little bit about your stripsack there
- 16:11Speaker 8: at the end?
- 16:12Speaker 1: What you see there?
- 16:13Speaker 9: I'm just getting one on one and trying to make
- 16:15Speaker 9: the most of it in a big time moment and
- 16:17Speaker 9: trying to make a play for my team able to
- 16:19Speaker 9: get to the football and recover.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Did you heard what he said about wanting to be
- 16:23Speaker 1: left one on moment?
- 16:24Speaker 2: Oh?
- 16:24Speaker 1: Of course.
- 16:25Speaker 9: I mean I have a lot of respect for every
- 16:26Speaker 9: single player, and then if everybody works hard and I'm
- 16:29Speaker 9: just trying to get my opportunities when I get them
- 16:31Speaker 9: and make the most of the one that happen.
- 16:33Speaker 1: But it's not possible without scheme.
- 16:35Speaker 9: We've done a good job schematically of trying to create
- 16:38Speaker 9: those one on ones along with the back end covering
- 16:40Speaker 9: just long enough and the guys up front also chewing
- 16:42Speaker 9: up blockers.
- 16:43Speaker 1: So it's a team effort. TJ. You worry about the
- 16:46Speaker 1: yards a lout or you just focus on points?
- 16:49Speaker 6: No, No, I mean we just worry about overall outcoming
- 16:51Speaker 6: and I mean we can't allow a forty eight yard
- 16:53Speaker 6: touchdown run whatever it was at the end of the
- 16:55Speaker 6: game there, But there are things that we can we
- 16:57Speaker 6: can team to correct and get better at each and
- 16:59Speaker 6: every week.
- 17:00Speaker 1: We're going in bye week, we can't just go on vacation.
- 17:02Speaker 9: We need to find a way to get better, sharping
- 17:04Speaker 9: our edge this week and move forward.
- 17:07Speaker 10: You know, we always knew what we were going inside
- 17:09Speaker 10: our receiver room with co z Van, Scottie, g Brandon Roam, everybody,
- 17:16Speaker 10: we all know what were capable of. So ever since
- 17:19Speaker 10: OTA's it's always been blocked out the outside noise and
- 17:21Speaker 10: do what we do because you know, in moments like this,
- 17:25Speaker 10: you know, there ain't allowed to talk.
- 17:26Speaker 11: That's like, how frustrated isn't moving the ball really well,
- 17:29Speaker 11: it's not able to get into the ends, and how
- 17:31Speaker 11: much just a bigger play like yours should have lift some.
- 17:34Speaker 10: Of that First it's frustrated because that's not our standard,
- 17:37Speaker 10: that's not what we do, that's not how we practice.
- 17:41Speaker 10: So you know, those little mistakes are things that we've
- 17:45Speaker 10: always been talking about, but you know, to get.
- 17:46Speaker 2: To where we got to be, we're gonna have to
- 17:48Speaker 2: eliminate them.
- 17:49Speaker 10: So but you know, when it's always a big play
- 17:52Speaker 10: after you know, a flag or something like that, it's
- 17:55Speaker 10: always big just for the just just for the momentum
- 17:58Speaker 10: and the just the energy of the game.
- 18:00Speaker 8: What does it do when you when you guys see
- 18:02Speaker 8: a play like that, it kind of sparks you that
- 18:03Speaker 8: it it seems to kind of shift the momentum.
- 18:06Speaker 1: And it's happened in the last three games.
- 18:07Speaker 12: Yeah, most definitely, you know what I mean. It's a
- 18:10Speaker 12: great feeling anytime anybody makes a great play, you know
- 18:12Speaker 12: it offense always, you know, wants to feed off of it.
- 18:16Speaker 1: But I think we we we did a great job
- 18:18Speaker 1: today playing team football.
- 18:19Speaker 8: What's it been like the last couple of games here,
- 18:22Speaker 8: especially today? I see a nause out there running away.
- 18:25Speaker 12: He's probably Yeah, I mean, I feel like he just
- 18:28Speaker 12: has to up no confidence right now, and so I
- 18:30Speaker 12: think we've been doing We've been doing a great job
- 18:32Speaker 12: on offense, executing, giving him some space and uh, it
- 18:36Speaker 12: just feels like he's just having fun out there. Man,
- 18:39Speaker 12: He's in his own and uh, you know, we feed
- 18:41Speaker 12: off of that as an offensive line.
- 18:43Speaker 8: George, how nice is it when all three phases are clicking.
- 18:46Speaker 8: It's been happening the last couple of games.
- 18:47Speaker 1: You know, Uh, I feel good for sure.
- 18:50Speaker 13: That's like, you know, some of the offense I've been
- 18:52Speaker 13: a part of my life, you know, just being in
- 18:54Speaker 13: college and stuff like that.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:56Speaker 8: You when you see a punt return like that, or
- 18:57Speaker 8: have a punt return like Kelvin's, I mean, how much
- 18:59Speaker 8: does that spark the offensive?
- 19:01Speaker 13: Kind A lot a lot of special team players always
- 19:04Speaker 13: that's what it's called special teams. They always special. Uh,
- 19:06Speaker 13: Calvin did that, He kind of lit a fire under
- 19:08Speaker 13: his eam.
- 19:10Speaker 8: He was expecting somebody at halftime, he was expecting somebody stuff,
- 19:13Speaker 8: I'm making big play.
- 19:13Speaker 11: What was it about Calvin that he was opportense to.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Like he said, the special teams?
- 19:18Speaker 5: Uh.
- 19:19Speaker 13: And then the pass play, you know, they shaved my side.
- 19:23Speaker 13: He gets wide open on the corner ball.
- 19:24Speaker 1: So there was a lot of good stuff today.
- 19:26Speaker 14: George, you were drafted the same year as Calvin. I
- 19:29Speaker 14: know he had kind of a rocky start to his
- 19:30Speaker 14: career with the injuries help rewarding is it to see
- 19:32Speaker 14: a guy like that have a big have a big
- 19:34Speaker 14: night with the punt return touchdown then the catch lead
- 19:37Speaker 14: out of the game.
- 19:38Speaker 13: It was super good, Uh, knowing how far Calvin came,
- 19:40Speaker 13: you know, kind of like the charges game too, when
- 19:42Speaker 13: he scored the charges game. It's just you know, every
- 19:44Speaker 13: time you see him score, just a happy moment.
- 19:46Speaker 7: Defense so opportunities, man, you know when we get that,
- 19:50Speaker 7: we get the rudge going, you know, and be able
- 19:52Speaker 7: to play spike drop coverage.
- 19:54Speaker 1: You know, it's you know, going after they played seven
- 19:57Speaker 1: or seven, you know what I mean.
- 19:57Speaker 7: You got great rush guy, it's great cover guys, and
- 20:01Speaker 7: you know, being able to look at the quarterback and
- 20:03Speaker 7: and see where the ball goes, and you know, just
- 20:05Speaker 7: be able to make the most opportunities.
- 20:07Speaker 3: And it seems like the one thing this team is doing.
- 20:08Speaker 2: It's all three phases that are helping out.
- 20:11Speaker 7: Yeah, for sure, you know, everybody, we have to play
- 20:13Speaker 7: complimentary football, you know, to to win football games.
- 20:16Speaker 13: That's what's some mean for you to to step in
- 20:18Speaker 13: in that moment in order to make that play.
- 20:22Speaker 7: I told Alex Hashmith that I was gonna I was
- 20:24Speaker 7: gonna end the game that drive, honestly, you know what
- 20:26Speaker 7: I mean. And that's just something that that I that
- 20:28Speaker 7: I pride myself on just trying to go out there
- 20:31Speaker 7: and get a stop, you know, to finish the game.
- 20:33Speaker 14: Because it's the best it's felt for you guys. As
- 20:36Speaker 14: an offense through eight weeks of a season going into
- 20:38Speaker 14: the by just being where you are, Is this the best.
- 20:41Speaker 2: It's felt since you've been here?
- 20:42Speaker 3: Best?
- 20:43Speaker 11: Yes, the best we have in four years I've been
- 20:45Speaker 11: so yeah, yeah, you know we're now we're looking really good.
- 20:50Speaker 11: But this is a long season. We've got a lot
- 20:52Speaker 11: of stuff to work on. It's done, it was, it
- 20:55Speaker 11: was good, but we still got a lot of stuff
- 20:57Speaker 11: we gotta fix on my part into my into and
- 21:01Speaker 11: you know, just going out here, going in film and
- 21:04Speaker 11: knowing that, you know, let's not get too big headed
- 21:07Speaker 11: on on the start that we have. It's all about
- 21:09Speaker 11: the second half of the season. That's the most important
- 21:11Speaker 11: half of the season is the second half. That's when
- 21:14Speaker 11: you know, guys are really locked in and other teams
- 21:16Speaker 11: are really executing on all cylinders. So for us to
- 21:19Speaker 11: you know, keep rising up and not saying the same
- 21:23Speaker 11: as uh is where we h is where.
- 21:25Speaker 2: We're atting great to hear from some of the guys
- 21:27Speaker 2: after the win a Monday Night football, and we are
- 21:29Speaker 2: going to have a more detailed podcast towards the end
- 21:32Speaker 2: of this week where we do talk about our expectations.
- 21:33Speaker 2: But Jimmy, just if we don't give the podcast away,
- 21:38Speaker 2: but six and two you have to be a hobby mind,
- 21:40Speaker 2: because I like, I think any teams sit in sex
- 21:43Speaker 2: and two like we've seen like obviously the Chiefs are
- 21:45Speaker 2: on beating in the league at the moment, but in
- 21:47Speaker 2: the in the division where it's the AFC North and
- 21:49Speaker 2: we've seen, you know, a quarterback change, it's been really, really,
- 21:56Speaker 2: really positive over the last few weeks. I figured, I
- 21:59Speaker 2: feel like this teams in a good place right now,
- 22:02Speaker 2: and we will talk about it in this next podcast.
- 22:04Speaker 2: But it's positivity center here this week, isn't it.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:07Speaker 3: I mean the fact make I mean the fact that
- 22:11Speaker 3: both the Ravens and the Bengals lost over the weekend
- 22:13Speaker 3: as well has masterly helped us out in boosting our
- 22:16Speaker 3: position in the AFC North. It also gives a team
- 22:19Speaker 3: a bit of confidence coming into that kind of guarnded
- 22:21Speaker 3: run in the back half of the season where we
- 22:23Speaker 3: have all of our AFC North opponents. And to be
- 22:26Speaker 3: honest with you, I'd be more worried about the Browns
- 22:28Speaker 3: with Jamis Winston than I would be about the Bengals
- 22:30Speaker 3: with Joe Burrow at the minute. But a lot of
- 22:34Speaker 3: people don't realize that we're currently as it stands, we
- 22:36Speaker 3: are the number three seed in the in the in
- 22:40Speaker 3: the playoff rankings, which will give us Baltimore at home
- 22:43Speaker 3: if things stand as they are, And I like our
- 22:45Speaker 3: chances against Baltimore right now coming off that loss. But
- 22:49Speaker 3: in general, if you had to ask me at the
- 22:51Speaker 3: start of the season, Jimmy, would you be happy at
- 22:53Speaker 3: the buy six and two on top of the AFC North,
- 22:55Speaker 3: I would have bit in your handoff considering who we
- 22:58Speaker 3: had starting a quarterback. And God, I'll be the first
- 23:00Speaker 3: one to put my hand up and say it was
- 23:02Speaker 3: announced before the Jets game that Russell Wilson was going
- 23:05Speaker 3: to start. I was skeptical, and in the first two
- 23:08Speaker 3: quarters of that Jets game, I was more than skeptical.
- 23:10Speaker 3: But he proved me wrong. I think he's proved a
- 23:12Speaker 3: lot of Steelers play, a lot of Steelers fans wrong.
- 23:15Speaker 3: And I genuinely do believe now that we're Russell Wilson
- 23:18Speaker 3: a quarterback, we have the chance to make a deep
- 23:20Speaker 3: playoff run. And I'll save a little bit of this
- 23:23Speaker 3: for our recap podcast make next week, but I would be,
- 23:27Speaker 3: you know, I would be hoping that we at least
- 23:30Speaker 3: get into the divisional round in the playoffs. And I
- 23:33Speaker 3: don't see any reason right now. If we keep playing
- 23:36Speaker 3: at the stand that we're playing at, and things improve
- 23:38Speaker 3: on offense regarding touchdowns and points scored, and the defense
- 23:42Speaker 3: keeps playing the way it does, I mean, the sky's
- 23:45Speaker 3: the limit for the Steelers team right now.
- 23:48Speaker 2: I can't put it better myself, dovol. I don't want
- 23:50Speaker 2: to give allan in a way, but the top of
- 23:52Speaker 2: the next podcast, positively central.
- 23:53Speaker 4: You're feeling good, absolutely, just as Jimmy said. I mean,
- 23:58Speaker 4: if anybody had offered us back in August the chance
- 24:01Speaker 4: to be six and two heading into the Bay week
- 24:03Speaker 4: with that difficult schedule, I would have bitten your hand off.
- 24:06Speaker 4: So I don't really see any reason to be negative.
- 24:08Speaker 4: There's absolutely no reason for it. It's worked out pretty much
- 24:12Speaker 4: exactly as we wanted it to work out. I mean,
- 24:14Speaker 4: we've got that ratheran quarterback and the understand there now,
- 24:18Speaker 4: and in my opinion, it's only upwards from here. So yeah,
- 24:20Speaker 4: just to echo everything Jimmy said, I'll say it again.
- 24:24Speaker 4: Can't complain, You'll hear no complaints for me. Let me
- 24:26Speaker 4: let me tell you that I.
- 24:27Speaker 2: Love it early Christmas present for you boys two weeks
