- speaker-0: I have got to believe in that moment, yeah, that God has not stopped being the supreme almighty of the universe. I've got to hold on in that moment that he is still on the throne and he is still sovereign and he is still at work. speaker-1: There was a point in my marriage where you just, you know, you want to fix them, right? Everybody kind of goes into marriage saying, I can fix them and like help, you know, all these things. And the Lord convicted me ⁓ early-ish in our marriage, not totally early, but early-ish in our marriage, that That's his job. You know, I have to I'm not the Holy Spirit for him. I have to duck low enough so that he can hear from the Lord. And I need to get out of the way so he can hear clearly from the Lord. And I can only work on myself. And it really hit me. Like I think I'd done part one of that with the kids, like with my adult children, is I'm not their Holy Spirit. I have to trust that God is working on them. You know, it's the whole cop counselor ⁓ wait, cop What is it? Cop, coach, counselor. And I the counselor phase is very difficult because it's not like it's not like I'm calling them going, hey, time for an appointment. Hey, did you want to know some advice? Like you sit and wait to be called upon. And it's so hard. But I think the thing that hit me today was not only do I have to, you know, keep my mouth closed and not give the advice I want to give and trust the Lord in that, but I also need to work on myself. Like what how can I be a better mom in this moment? Exactly. speaker-0: Like exactly. And what is God trying to teach me through all of this? Because if if, and indeed it is true, God is sovereign over all of these. He wastes nothing. Nothing. Such that if and if this if we can hold on to the following, I mean, this is a game changer. And I and I'm gonna suggest not only do we need to hold on to the following, we need to hold on to the following for each other. Yeah. For each other. Such that when we cannot hold it ourselves or when we have let go of it or we have thrown it away, that we can give it back to each other. And that is God is sovereign. God is sovereign. And even in our kids' worst decisions, and you know, they're not my stories to tell. I you know, need to make a caveat here. It's happened. It's happened. Not my stories to tell. These are my adult children, these are their lives, their stories. And I would humbly suggest to you that we ought not be telling on our children. I'm just gonna say that. I would like yeah, I would like to jump up and down on that. And so consider that what I'm doing, because shame on us. That is not what we need to be doing. It is not about us. And when we capitalize. speaker-1: Nah. speaker-0: on their poor decisions. Do you want to be in the New York Times right up the next time you make a poor decision? I don't want to be. And so we d need to not do that with our children. And instead, what we need to do is lean into the sovereign power of the Almighty. God is at work. Even when, if not especially when we cannot see it. Even when they make utterly foolish decisions. That just reduce us to a puddle, like speechless. I know it's hard to imagine that I I would ever be speechless, but believe me, I have been speechless like ⁓ wow. Yikes. I have got to believe in that moment. Yeah. That God has not stopped being the supreme almighty of the universe. I've got to hold on in that moment that he is still on the throne and he is still sovereign and he is still at work. And I will tell you at at our at our lowest it the Holy Spirit prompts me to say so far. And I hate that because I I really believe that as long as we're here, he's at work, you know, and it's a progressive work that he does in our lives. But at our worst moment, I am so grateful that we had people when, you know, hot tears are dripping off my chin. And I am just like What has happened? And I feel like I've woken up in a world that I do not recognize and in a place that I'm just like, How did we get here? Because this was not on my map. This was not on my bingo card. I never would have chosen to be here. What is you know, I had friends. ⁓ Had friends that took me by the shoulder and would say to me, God is sovereign. Even over this. He is not asleep. He has not turned a blind eye. He loves you and he cares. And he is still at work. He is at work even right now in this. You've got to hold on to that. Even when I didn't know what to say. Even when I wanted to run away, like far, far away, like dye my hair purple and run away. I had friends that were saying what we all need to be prepared to say to each other, and that is God is on the throne. He can work through any circumstance. This is not too big, it's not too messy, it's not too broken, it's not too anything for him. And that's really good. speaker-2: This episode of Homeschool Insights is brought to you by BJU Press Homeschool, CTC Math, and the Explorer Bible for Kids.
