Transcript
- 0:08Speaker 1: Hello, Welcome to another edition of Inside the Tape. On
- 0:11Speaker 1: Inside the Birds, I'm Jeff Moser. I'm with Adam Kaplan.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Of course, we're joined by Greg Cosel. He's going to
- 0:18Speaker 1: break down all the tape of the Eagles game against
- 0:21Speaker 1: the Buccaneers, a game, by the way, that they won
- 0:23Speaker 1: thirty one to twenty five on the road in a
- 0:25Speaker 1: place that they've had a lot of difficulty winning. And
- 0:29Speaker 1: we're gonna start with the offense in this part one,
- 0:31Speaker 1: and part two later in the week we'll get into defense,
- 0:34Speaker 1: because Greg, everybody wants to know about the offense and
- 0:38Speaker 1: what in the world can happen for two weeks in
- 0:41Speaker 1: a row that an offense could look so good in
- 0:43Speaker 1: one half and so dormant in another. I'm sure you
- 0:46Speaker 1: have all the answers as to why that.
- 0:48Speaker 2: That's a you know, to be honest, it's a hard
- 0:51Speaker 2: question to answer. But you know, I will say this,
- 0:57Speaker 2: and obviously they were a Super Bowl championship team and
- 0:59Speaker 2: their four or no, but I think we do know
- 1:02Speaker 2: that as a team offensively, they're not really a big
- 1:06Speaker 2: passing team. You know, we've talked about this, even going
- 1:09Speaker 2: back to last year. I think Jalen Hurts had eight
- 1:13Speaker 2: or nine or ten games in which he did not
- 1:15Speaker 2: throw for over two hundred yards. Now, we've talked a
- 1:18Speaker 2: lot about the fact that his scrambling, his design runs,
- 1:22Speaker 2: they are absolutely critical to what they do. He had
- 1:25Speaker 2: a twenty nine yard scramble on the first possession, which
- 1:27Speaker 2: basically set up the touchdown. You know, those things really
- 1:31Speaker 2: really matter to them. But if you're looking, if people
- 1:35Speaker 2: are looking for reasons and think that all of his
- 1:37Speaker 2: sudden they're not a really good passing team, that would
- 1:41Speaker 2: be the furthest thing from the truth. They've not been
- 1:44Speaker 2: a strong week to week passing team going back to
- 1:49Speaker 2: the Super Bowl year. So you know, I mean, obviously
- 1:53Speaker 2: this week was sort of hit rock bottom. When the
- 1:56Speaker 2: quarterback goes oh for eight for no yards in the
- 1:58Speaker 2: second half, that hits rock Bob. But it's not as
- 2:01Speaker 2: if this is a team that throws for three hundred
- 2:03Speaker 2: yards every week and all of a sudden they just
- 2:06Speaker 2: fell off a cliff. That's not the way it is, right.
- 2:09Speaker 3: I would ask you this question. First half, Hurts very
- 2:12Speaker 3: accurate through for one thirty. It seemed like more you know,
- 2:14Speaker 3: just watching it initially, what were your thoughts just on
- 2:18Speaker 3: the first half of the offense.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Overall, well, I thought the passing game was good. I
- 2:24Speaker 2: thought they were well prepared for the five and six
- 2:28Speaker 2: man pressures, really well prepared because Hurts got the ball
- 2:32Speaker 2: out quickly and beat it. You know, those throws don't
- 2:36Speaker 2: have to be twenty yard throws. I mean there were
- 2:38Speaker 2: some really good examples where he just got it out. Look.
- 2:42Speaker 2: There was first play of the game was a six
- 2:44Speaker 2: man pressure. Hurts quick throw to Barkley twelve yards and
- 2:47Speaker 2: the avoided flat beautiful first possession they win zero at
- 2:51Speaker 2: a nickel Dennis got cleaned through the A gap. Hurts
- 2:53Speaker 2: it a quick slant to Smith for nine yards. Dean
- 2:56Speaker 2: played with a big cushion. It was it was pitch
- 2:58Speaker 2: and catch. So Dennis, even though he was clean through
- 3:01Speaker 2: the A gap, was not a factor, you know, you
- 3:06Speaker 2: know it was. They just handled it extremely well. They
- 3:11Speaker 2: were absolutely prepared for it. And then there were some
- 3:14Speaker 2: other plays which were not blitzes. I mean, he had
- 3:17Speaker 2: got her on the scene twenty two yards, which was
- 3:19Speaker 2: the exact same play of the as the got her
- 3:23Speaker 2: thirty three yard touchdown versus the Rams week three, and
- 3:26Speaker 2: they ended up getting the exact same coverage, so it
- 3:28Speaker 2: worked out perfectly, you know. So, and the Calcatara sixteen
- 3:33Speaker 2: yard are on the same drive was a busted coverage,
- 3:35Speaker 2: so that we can leave alone. But I mean, they
- 3:37Speaker 2: did they did good things. It was clear that the
- 3:40Speaker 2: coaching staff and Hurts and everybody on the offense were
- 3:43Speaker 2: well well prepared for the five and six man pressures
- 3:47Speaker 2: that changed in the second half because they didn't do
- 3:51Speaker 2: five and six man pressures. They switched up and they
- 3:54Speaker 2: did a lot of four man sim pressures, which is
- 3:56Speaker 2: a totally different deal than her five and six man pressure,
- 4:00Speaker 2: and the response to it is has to be totally different.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Did you feel like watching the tape, Greg that the
- 4:07Speaker 1: Eagles did a poor job responding to that second half
- 4:11Speaker 1: adjustment through either route concepts or were they just not
- 4:15Speaker 1: in sync as an offense, because there's a difference.
- 4:18Speaker 2: I think there was both of those things, Jeff. You know,
- 4:22Speaker 2: I think they really worked hard to try to get
- 4:24Speaker 2: the ball to aj Brown in the second half, in
- 4:26Speaker 2: particular when he had six or seven targets. And you know,
- 4:30Speaker 2: I think that there were a couple of times where
- 4:33Speaker 2: Hurts I think forced him, forced the ball to him
- 4:37Speaker 2: when the ball should have gone somewhere else. But you know,
- 4:42Speaker 2: Jalen almost threw a pick on one of them to
- 4:44Speaker 2: Aj on a sit route just off to his right,
- 4:46Speaker 2: which should have been picked off. But you know, I
- 4:50Speaker 2: think what you said is correct. They were both of
- 4:52Speaker 2: those things. The offense did not. I didn't feel like
- 4:56Speaker 2: it was very rhythmic. It wasn't. It didn't present a
- 5:01Speaker 2: lot of clean, defined reads, which I think has been
- 5:05Speaker 2: an issue throughout the first four games here and there.
- 5:11Speaker 1: To get back to your original point, the Eagles have
- 5:14Speaker 1: never been at least last year, especially if they were
- 5:16Speaker 1: not a passing team. But we would always say it's
- 5:19Speaker 1: because they are a running team and they run the
- 5:20Speaker 1: ball exclusively, and now they're not running the ball explosively,
- 5:26Speaker 1: And do you think that has impacted their pass offense
- 5:29Speaker 1: or do you just think overall, well, first of all,
- 5:32Speaker 1: what did you see on tape in that regard why
- 5:33Speaker 1: they're not running the ball well offensively?
- 5:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I would say the same things that you normally
- 5:38Speaker 2: see that when the team doesn't run the ball well,
- 5:41Speaker 2: is there's not a lot of space. I looked again
- 5:44Speaker 2: because I knew we'd be talking this evening at Barkley
- 5:48Speaker 2: and his yards before contact and it's one point eighty seven,
- 5:51Speaker 2: which is among the worst league. And believe it or not,
- 5:55Speaker 2: that the team that's really at the bottom of the
- 5:57Speaker 2: league of the forty nine ers, which is even more amazing.
- 6:00Speaker 2: But but you know, there's there's not a lot of
- 6:03Speaker 2: space for Barkley. I mean, there's just not a lot
- 6:06Speaker 2: of space. And we're not saying he's not a great back.
- 6:10Speaker 2: That's not the point at all. There's you know, you
- 6:12Speaker 2: do need at some point to get past the first
- 6:15Speaker 2: level of the defense, and you can't always do that
- 6:18Speaker 2: on your own. In fact, very rarely do you do
- 6:20Speaker 2: that on your own. So you know that's not happening,
- 6:24Speaker 2: and you know, so it it the the offense is yeah,
- 6:29Speaker 2: and I'm not being sarcastic at all. You know, this
- 6:32Speaker 2: is what the tape shows. They can't run it very
- 6:34Speaker 2: well right now, and there's no consistency to the way
- 6:37Speaker 2: they're throwing it. So it's it's I was having this
- 6:40Speaker 2: conversation with my guys on Matchup today as we were
- 6:43Speaker 2: just watching you know, everybody's watching different tapes and we're
- 6:46Speaker 2: just talking ball. You know that Adam's been here, he
- 6:49Speaker 2: knows you just talk ball as you're watching tape and
- 6:52Speaker 2: it's it's really a very very difficult thing to figure out,
- 6:56Speaker 2: quite honestly. I mean they're four and oh. Okay, there's
- 6:59Speaker 2: only two four and oh teams in football right now,
- 7:01Speaker 2: the Eagles and the Bills. Okay, they're a super Bowl champion. Obviously,
- 7:07Speaker 2: last year was different. Barkley, you know, rush for over
- 7:09Speaker 2: two thousand yards, and you know Jalen was was very
- 7:13Speaker 2: good when he needed to be very good. Right now,
- 7:17Speaker 2: they can't run it and they can't throw it very well,
- 7:19Speaker 2: and they're four and oh. It's a very difficult equation
- 7:23Speaker 2: to try to figure out.
- 7:25Speaker 3: And Greg, when I see it first half, like Hurts
- 7:29Speaker 3: had and the rhythmic, that was kind of what you
- 7:31Speaker 3: were saying, they were all in sinc but too long
- 7:33Speaker 3: Hurts seemed to be in fake sick.
- 7:35Speaker 4: It all worked. It just was beautiful and it come
- 7:38Speaker 4: out so flat.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Now.
- 7:39Speaker 3: The thing is they were also if you looked at them,
- 7:41Speaker 3: throw on first down, which we all love.
- 7:43Speaker 2: I know that.
- 7:43Speaker 4: I love that because talking to coaches over there, they
- 7:45Speaker 4: love to throw the first down. Coach che've talked to
- 7:48Speaker 4: over theres love to do that.
- 7:50Speaker 3: I'm just thought it was beautiful and Hurts was in
- 7:51Speaker 3: a rhythm and then second half they come out trying
- 7:53Speaker 3: to run the ball wasn't working Hurts.
- 7:56Speaker 4: You know, you talked about the three throws which were
- 7:58Speaker 4: kind of forced.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just.
- 8:01Speaker 4: There doesn't seem to be any kind of rhythm between
- 8:05Speaker 4: one thing.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Or the other.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Right when you think they've got the thing Solf right there,
- 8:08Speaker 3: there's been this riddle of the passing game. The second
- 8:11Speaker 3: half comes and I know you and sitting in with
- 8:13Speaker 3: you over the years NFL films, I think it would
- 8:16Speaker 3: like because you always want to know, like what are
- 8:17Speaker 3: they trying to accomplish? Right Like when you watch tape,
- 8:20Speaker 3: do you say, Okay, I think I have an idea
- 8:22Speaker 3: of what they're trying to do.
- 8:24Speaker 4: Do you say, like, what do you say when you
- 8:26Speaker 4: look at the tape like that?
- 8:27Speaker 2: I think it's hard to understand that, to be honest
- 8:29Speaker 2: with you right now, and I think that you know again,
- 8:32Speaker 2: I'm sure if Kevin Patulo was here, he'd say, exactly,
- 8:35Speaker 2: you know what the plan is, because every coach has
- 8:37Speaker 2: a plan. So this is not a knock. I mean,
- 8:39Speaker 2: I'm not going to sit here and say I know
- 8:41Speaker 2: more than Kevin Pittu. I don't do that. You know,
- 8:42Speaker 2: you guys know that, you know, I just when I'm watching,
- 8:45Speaker 2: I feel like it's individual plays, you know. And obviously
- 8:49Speaker 2: they hit the god Are twenty two yards which they
- 8:51Speaker 2: got the right coverage again for the play call. The
- 8:54Speaker 2: Calcataro was a bust. You know, they had some cool
- 8:57Speaker 2: red zone concepts. The thing that's saving them they've had
- 9:00Speaker 2: eleven trips into the red zone and they've scored eleven touchdowns.
- 9:03Speaker 2: That is what's saving them. I mean, that's remarkable that
- 9:06Speaker 2: they've done that. Now, some of that is, you know,
- 9:08Speaker 2: is the touch push. But you know what, it's legal.
- 9:10Speaker 4: It counts thet they got there.
- 9:12Speaker 2: They got there exactly. Now they don't get there a
- 9:15Speaker 2: lot relative to other teams. But the point is when
- 9:18Speaker 2: they get there, they score touchdowns. But you know, there's
- 9:22Speaker 2: then there's in you know, there's usually individual it's a combination.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Let me put it this way, and I'm trying not
- 9:29Speaker 2: to just ramble, but this is the way my mind
- 9:31Speaker 2: is working about the egos offense. I don't make of it.
- 9:34Speaker 2: It's it's it's a combination of no rhythm and individual
- 9:38Speaker 2: plays like for instance, the Vida Veas second sack, which
- 9:41Speaker 2: came on third and eight and their third third quarter possession.
- 9:46Speaker 2: They used the spy for the first time. They didn't
- 9:48Speaker 2: use the spy in the first half, but they used
- 9:49Speaker 2: the spy for the first time. It was reddick. They
- 9:51Speaker 2: rushed three and they played kind of two man coverage
- 9:54Speaker 2: behind it. McCollum undercut Brown on the dig route where
- 9:57Speaker 2: clearly Jalen wanted to go with the football that got
- 10:00Speaker 2: taken away. I thought he clearly had got it as
- 10:03Speaker 2: a checkdown in the flat. I don't know what you
- 10:05Speaker 2: guys thought when you saw it. I thought he clearly
- 10:07Speaker 2: had got it for a checkdown and it was third
- 10:09Speaker 2: and eight, not third and fifteen. So again, I can't
- 10:12Speaker 2: answer why he didn't throw it. I don't know the
- 10:15Speaker 2: reason for that. Maybe he didn't think he had him,
- 10:17Speaker 2: you know, that's you know, but then he gets sacked. So,
- 10:21Speaker 2: like I said, it's a combination of no rhythm. And
- 10:24Speaker 2: then you can look at individuals as well.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Yep, many of these plays you reference were going to
- 10:28Speaker 1: take a look at in a second. But I do
- 10:29Speaker 1: want to ask you because you watch every team definitely,
- 10:33Speaker 1: and I guess one thing that makes them the Eagles
- 10:36Speaker 1: a very fascinating case study, because it's like we're all
- 10:39Speaker 1: sort of fascinated right now in a curious way of
- 10:43Speaker 1: how they can be so up and so down. Yeah, Like,
- 10:47Speaker 1: for example, you go play the Chiefs. You know, the
- 10:49Speaker 1: Chiefs blitz and you know exactly what Steve Spagnola was
- 10:52Speaker 1: going to do, and yet they did not perform well
- 10:55Speaker 1: as an offense right against it. You know, Todd Bowles
- 10:58Speaker 1: is going to blitz, and you perform great against it.
- 11:01Speaker 1: So it's it's mind boggling to me that the two
- 11:04Speaker 1: concepts you know are happening, you can do really well
- 11:07Speaker 1: worse one and not the other. And they're both good teams.
- 11:09Speaker 1: I know, personnel is different, so that can change, sure something.
- 11:12Speaker 1: But and then the Rams they never blitz, But then
- 11:15Speaker 1: they do blitz the Eagles a lot more so than you're.
- 11:19Speaker 2: You're used to they normally do.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Yeah, and then that sort of confused them, and then
- 11:23Speaker 1: all of a sudden they wake up in the second half.
- 11:25Speaker 1: It is they are just a mind boggling team too.
- 11:27Speaker 2: But they woke up in the second half with a
- 11:28Speaker 2: lot of individual plays, you know what I'm saying, Like
- 11:31Speaker 2: they get Aj Brown on individual plays, not on I mean,
- 11:35Speaker 2: obviously the God or they they got the right the
- 11:38Speaker 2: right play call for the right defense and it looks beautiful,
- 11:40Speaker 2: as as as the same route this week looked beautiful.
- 11:44Speaker 2: But I guess when you don't see up to this
- 11:47Speaker 2: point is you don't see a lot of sort of
- 11:50Speaker 2: rhythmic route concepts and combinations that present the throw. You know,
- 11:56Speaker 2: and and by the way, that's when that happens. You know,
- 11:59Speaker 2: people say, oh, great quarterbacking. Yeah, I mean, obviously the
- 12:03Speaker 2: quarterback has to make the throw. But that's what you
- 12:05Speaker 2: want to see from the coordinator. You want to see.
- 12:07Speaker 2: You want to see route concepts and combinations that particularly
- 12:11Speaker 2: against zone. Okay, which and by the way, the Bucks
- 12:14Speaker 2: play more zone than man where you know it's clean.
- 12:18Speaker 2: You know, Hey, the route concept, whether it's two man,
- 12:20Speaker 2: three man, whether it's half field, full feel whatever it
- 12:24Speaker 2: is that, hey, there's the throw within timing of the
- 12:27Speaker 2: drop and everything. You don't you're not seeing that right now.
- 12:30Speaker 2: You see it just rarely, but you're not seeing it
- 12:33Speaker 2: as a foundation.
- 12:35Speaker 1: I think that there's a core of the fan base
- 12:38Speaker 1: that is in the middle that sort of would agree
- 12:40Speaker 1: with our conversation here where they're so there's the extremists
- 12:44Speaker 1: which is smaller. The extremists are either in one camp
- 12:46Speaker 1: or the other. It's either fire Kevin Patulohi's stinks, or
- 12:50Speaker 1: we won the super Bowl last year like this, I
- 12:51Speaker 1: don't care if we if it looks right, we'll be fine,
- 12:54Speaker 1: which is neither. Neither is a fair way to look
- 12:56Speaker 1: at it. In the middle, everybody just seems to want
- 12:59Speaker 1: to be like, yes, we're winning games this way. It's
- 13:02Speaker 1: looking a little odd. We seem to make plays when
- 13:05Speaker 1: I say we had the Eagles. This is the fan talking.
- 13:07Speaker 1: But I do think that there's that. But we remember
- 13:10Speaker 1: twenty twenty three and things.
- 13:13Speaker 2: Yeah, you're a lot of analysts who we all respect
- 13:17Speaker 2: saying things like is this sustainable? But you know, no
- 13:22Speaker 2: one can answer that, By the way, that's.
- 13:23Speaker 5: An unanswerable you know, it's a free conversation to have,
- 13:26Speaker 5: and it's fun to talk, Paul, you know, but no
- 13:28Speaker 5: one can answer that because the reality is therefore and
- 13:31Speaker 5: oh so you know right now they've played four games,
- 13:34Speaker 5: they win them all.
- 13:35Speaker 2: You know, they're playing a tough Denver team this week,
- 13:37Speaker 2: which we'll talk about later in the week. Obviously, a
- 13:39Speaker 2: team that's really good rushing the quarterback, and that sometimes
- 13:42Speaker 2: does it with blitz and sometimes not. It depends on
- 13:45Speaker 2: the opponent. So we don't know what Vans Joseph will
- 13:48Speaker 2: think when he plays this week. We don't know the
- 13:49Speaker 2: answer to that. But but there's no way in the
- 13:53Speaker 2: building they're thinking, boy, we're playing great offensive football. We
- 13:57Speaker 2: all know that that's not the case.
- 13:59Speaker 4: Yeah, what is it?
- 14:00Speaker 1: One hundred and thirty yards per game?
- 14:02Speaker 2: Passing for thirty eight yards per game, second worst in
- 14:04Speaker 2: the league behind Tennessee.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Yeah, and they were bad. They were low, I should
- 14:08Speaker 1: say last year, but it was never I don't think
- 14:10Speaker 1: it was that low. I think there were more like
- 14:11Speaker 1: one seventy to one eight right.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Right, again, they also had a back rush for over
- 14:16Speaker 2: two thousand yards, I mean, and right now they don't
- 14:18Speaker 2: have that, right. You know, the golfs had explosive plays.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Adams talked about this one hundred times. We all know it.
- 14:23Speaker 2: You know that every offensive coordinator talks about, let's get
- 14:26Speaker 2: explosive plays. Believe me, you're just as happy with a
- 14:28Speaker 2: sixty yard Barkley touchdown run as you are with a pass.
- 14:31Speaker 4: Right five yards and more. You want explosive run is
- 14:34Speaker 4: five yards and more. John D.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Phlippo was total set one hundred times. I can't even
- 14:38Speaker 3: get that now, Jeff, we sent it back to you.
- 14:40Speaker 3: That's the puzzling thing.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Yeah, the guy who had the most explosive run was
- 14:43Speaker 1: aj Dillon in this game.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Which was right.
- 14:46Speaker 4: All right, man, there you go. All right.
- 14:49Speaker 1: So let's take a look at some clips. I want
- 14:50Speaker 1: to start off with early in the game when they
- 14:53Speaker 1: come out, well, they and it's Greg's point where it
- 14:56Speaker 1: looks like they had good rhythm and good sequences.
- 14:58Speaker 2: They had and clearly had a plan. They had a plan,
- 15:01Speaker 2: which you know makes sense. That's what you're you know,
- 15:04Speaker 2: they know everybody knows Todd Bowles. You're coaching, you're playing
- 15:07Speaker 2: against Todd Bowles, not necessarily against their personnelity.
- 15:10Speaker 3: You know it's coming. You know it's gonna be pressure.
- 15:13Speaker 3: They handle it very well. Hurts. One thing is positive.
- 15:16Speaker 3: He started handling the blitzwell, at least in this first
- 15:17Speaker 3: half day.
- 15:18Speaker 4: Yeah, and we're gonna rid of it.
- 15:19Speaker 1: We're gonna look at that one second first with pusive
- 15:21Speaker 1: here work from our great sponsors. Hey, you know that
- 15:24Speaker 1: one guy in the group chat who hit a five
- 15:26Speaker 1: leg parlay week one and he wouldn't shut up about it.
- 15:29Speaker 2: For the rest of the season.

- 17:37Speaker 1: this is the first third down that the Eagles face.
- 17:39Speaker 1: It's third and eight. I'm sure you will call this
- 17:42Speaker 1: and it's going to go to Devonte Smith for sixteen
- 17:45Speaker 1: Do you recall this play?
- 17:46Speaker 2: I think I do remember the play? Hold on. It
- 17:48Speaker 2: was third and eight, first possession. Was this the one? Wait?
- 17:55Speaker 2: This isn't the quick slant to Smith for nine yards
- 17:57Speaker 2: third and eight on first possession? Isn't it? No?
- 17:59Speaker 1: I'm sorry, it is the six teen yardlie okay, go ahead. Yeah,
- 18:02Speaker 1: but oh my bad, it was nine my fault.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Yeah, it is all right, let me start this over.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Three to one, all right, Greg, this is the first
- 18:10Speaker 1: third down of the game where Hurts is gonna hit Devontae.
- 18:13Speaker 1: And to your point, they were well prepared for the blitz.
- 18:15Speaker 1: So what do you see the Bucks doing here?
- 18:17Speaker 2: Yeah? Here, the Bucks are gonna go zero. They're gonna
- 18:19Speaker 2: go zero, They're gonna rush six. Now again, there's different
- 18:22Speaker 2: ways teams play zero on the back end, but this
- 18:25Speaker 2: is clearly a zero presentation. And uh, they're playing off coverage.
- 18:30Speaker 2: So Jamal Dean is the corner down below. You can
- 18:33Speaker 2: see him cheated to the inside. He's trying to take
- 18:36Speaker 2: away the inside, which is what you try to do
- 18:38Speaker 2: with zero, but he's so far off that he can't
- 18:43Speaker 2: really impact this slant route and Hurts season immediately gets
- 18:47Speaker 2: the ball right out. This is totally rhythmic, and he
- 18:49Speaker 2: hits Smith on the slant and he gets a first down.
- 18:52Speaker 2: So it's you know, boom, it's easy. This is pitch
- 18:55Speaker 2: and catch, right. But now they were clearly prepared for that.
- 18:59Speaker 2: You know, Yalen knew exactly what he was looking at.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Right, and then a couple of plays later, he's going
- 19:04Speaker 1: to find Dallas Goddard, I believe, for an eight yarder.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, well, I think they got the match up
- 19:12Speaker 2: here they wanted to with got Her because that's a
- 19:16Speaker 2: Yayadi Abbi dropping out, because this is another blitz. This
- 19:19Speaker 2: is this is a single high blitz. This is this
- 19:21Speaker 2: is a zone pressure because they have to match up.
- 19:24Speaker 2: But it's technically a zone pressure, so you have to
- 19:27Speaker 2: match up. You can't just let receivers run into areas
- 19:30Speaker 2: and not match up. But they got exactly what they wanted.
- 19:33Speaker 2: They got got Her a really good tight end on
- 19:35Speaker 2: ya Yaddabby, who's a nice athlete, but he's really a
- 19:38Speaker 2: he's a line of scrimmage edge player. So you know,
- 19:41Speaker 2: it worked out perfectly, and Jalen knew it immediately, and
- 19:45Speaker 2: they blocked it up enough so that the ball could
- 19:47Speaker 2: come out and boom. You know, that's that's just good football.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Right And then of course after a long Jalen hurts scramble, which.
- 19:55Speaker 2: And this is just a highly schemed play that they
- 19:57Speaker 2: probably put in this week because we haven't really seen
- 19:59Speaker 2: it before, or or I can't remember seeing it before.
- 20:02Speaker 2: I don't know if you guys have seeing before by
- 20:05Speaker 2: the Eagles. I'm not saying I've never seen it.
- 20:06Speaker 4: These are typically like plays like this.
- 20:09Speaker 3: Yeah, they might have run it for the first time
- 20:10Speaker 3: in practice, but these are usually something that you've gotten
- 20:13Speaker 3: the back of your playbook that you're going to run
- 20:15Speaker 3: and you just fight it at some point.
- 20:17Speaker 4: Okay, this this is cool though, This is so cool.
- 20:20Speaker 1: I love it. I think Zach Berman, I love Zach Berman.
- 20:22Speaker 1: I think he asked Nick why he chose this game
- 20:24Speaker 1: to run it, and you know Nick was not going
- 20:26Speaker 1: to volunteer, you know, the kind of information of why
- 20:29Speaker 1: it was this time. But that was a diamond diamond
- 20:32Speaker 1: formation on top the screen you see. I think Cat's
- 20:35Speaker 1: cam Lattu.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Uh yeah, the closest to the formation.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Right, who did play a role in this game.
- 20:43Speaker 2: That's a cool play. Yeah, I mean it's clearly. You know,
- 20:46Speaker 2: we see teams like the Chiefs the Lions do all
- 20:49Speaker 2: this cool kind of stuff when they get into the
- 20:51Speaker 2: red zone. This is just another really it's really.
- 20:54Speaker 4: See for years with the shovel pass. Yeah.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Right, So they get off to a really good start,
- 20:59Speaker 1: they get a down on their first drive, they don't
- 21:02Speaker 1: they go through it out in the second drive. But
- 21:03Speaker 1: then the third drive, Greg, it seems like they're back
- 21:05Speaker 1: at it, and Goddard was really big for them as
- 21:08Speaker 1: far as you know, beating the blitz.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Far here's the price go back a second. So they
- 21:13Speaker 2: got the one against the Rams last week. AJ Brown
- 21:18Speaker 2: was just split outside of god right at the snap.
- 21:20Speaker 2: Here he does short burst motion to get outside of him.
- 21:23Speaker 2: But it ends up being the same thing, and they
- 21:25Speaker 2: do that intentionally. It's into the boundary. They get covered too,
- 21:28Speaker 2: because why do they want to throw the scene into
- 21:30Speaker 2: the boundary Because the passing strength is to the wide
- 21:34Speaker 2: side of the field, and so the Mike linebacker I
- 21:37Speaker 2: think here it's Dennis is going to open up to
- 21:39Speaker 2: the wide side of the field away from Goddard scene.
- 21:43Speaker 2: So this is Jalen sees this immediately. He knows what
- 21:46Speaker 2: he has. You know, when you see this, you just
- 21:48Speaker 2: go this is sweet. I mean, this is just the
- 21:50Speaker 2: way it's supposed to be.
- 21:52Speaker 4: This is the rhythm, this is the rhythm we're looking for.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Yeah, this is the way.
- 21:55Speaker 4: It's a good job. Yeah, he got it out.
- 21:57Speaker 3: He you know, Greg, I thought he was very decisive
- 21:59Speaker 3: and first half that this is what you want from.
- 22:01Speaker 4: Him, and he doesn't hold onto it.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Absolutely really well timed throw because since they're rotating to
- 22:08Speaker 2: it with that safety up top, he didn't. He wasn't
- 22:11Speaker 2: as deep as he might normally be. So if he
- 22:13Speaker 2: had waited a millisecond longer, you know, that might not
- 22:16Speaker 2: have been complete god, or might have taken a shot there.
- 22:19Speaker 4: It's perfect time to throw. This is just really good throw.
- 22:23Speaker 2: That's really good.
- 22:25Speaker 1: By the way, it's the numbers and not a blitz,
- 22:28Speaker 1: just a four man rush.
- 22:29Speaker 2: That's right to cover two behind a four man pressure.
- 22:33Speaker 1: All right, So they're continuing to move the ball. Now,
- 22:35Speaker 1: this is the busted coverage. I believe that you alluded
- 22:37Speaker 1: to that you're going to see Grant.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Because he runs the shallow cross or does he not?
- 22:44Speaker 1: He does?
- 22:45Speaker 2: Yeah? And and and everybody down below is they're playing
- 22:48Speaker 2: man come back, yeah, cover someone busts. I don't know
- 22:55Speaker 2: whether uh Smith, you know, Tekey Smith who ends up
- 22:59Speaker 2: tackling him, who didn't have a man down below was
- 23:01Speaker 2: supposed to stay low or if the player up top,
- 23:05Speaker 2: I don't know who that is, probably the corner. It's
- 23:08Speaker 2: probably you.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Know, right, isn't twenty seven McCullum.
- 23:12Speaker 2: McCombs down below. He's the left corka. Yeah, you're corner
- 23:15Speaker 2: up top. I don't know if he was supposed to
- 23:16Speaker 2: run with Calkatara or if Tyke Smith was not supposed
- 23:19Speaker 2: to run out the way he ran out, But somebody
- 23:22Speaker 2: made a mistake, gotcha.
- 23:23Speaker 1: So that's a busted coverage. But you know, we've seen
- 23:25Speaker 1: Hurts not throw that match pattern, but he did see
- 23:28Speaker 1: it and he threw it. And the Eagles are continuing
- 23:30Speaker 1: to move the ball, and so the next play you're
- 23:33Speaker 1: gonna get twenty I believe this is twenty yards here.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Yeah, this is this is the this is where he
- 23:38Speaker 2: runs left, makes a second reaction, great throw to Smith,
- 23:42Speaker 2: who this is big.
- 23:43Speaker 3: This is what I talked about Jeff post him. I
- 23:45Speaker 3: love how he kept his eyes downfield. I know he moved,
- 23:48Speaker 3: but he still kept him downfield.
- 23:49Speaker 2: And also DeVonta Smith did a great job of adjusting
- 23:52Speaker 2: his route to mirror Jalen. This was this was just
- 23:54Speaker 2: good all around football right here.
- 23:58Speaker 1: This is a sim right because it looks like they're
- 23:59Speaker 1: gonna come with I think they.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Well they they're in a double mug. They have both
- 24:04Speaker 2: linebackers there they drop out. No, it's not Yeah, just
- 24:07Speaker 2: a fore man, but it's not it's not a blitz, right,
- 24:10Speaker 2: they're playing cover three. They're playing cover three.
- 24:14Speaker 4: Here, downfield look, downfield.
- 24:17Speaker 2: War and Smith does a great chapter justin yeah, give
- 24:22Speaker 2: you a place to throw the ball.
- 24:24Speaker 1: As he's throwing the ball, it looks like he does
- 24:25Speaker 1: a nice job yelling here of resetting his feet and
- 24:28Speaker 1: not just right there. You see that little like quick
- 24:31Speaker 1: step that he took and was able to throw.
- 24:33Speaker 4: So that was a nice job of adjustment.
- 24:35Speaker 2: But yeah, really, this good thing about is he had
- 24:38Speaker 2: to be aware of Morris in twenty one. He knew
- 24:40Speaker 2: Smith was running away from whoever it was, but he
- 24:43Speaker 2: had to be aware that Morrison that he wasn't going
- 24:46Speaker 2: to slide inside and be in positioned to intercept that ball.
- 24:49Speaker 2: So he had good eyes here, really good eyes. Yeah.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Right, And then I wanted to bring your everybody well.
- 24:57Speaker 1: The next play is then the shovel touchdown to Godard
- 25:01Speaker 1: And so again we're talking about play design and showing
- 25:03Speaker 1: things that are fresh and new, what.
- 25:06Speaker 2: You want to see. I mean, you know, in the
- 25:07Speaker 2: low red zone. You know, if you're not going to
- 25:11Speaker 2: do any of this stuff, here's what you end up
- 25:14Speaker 2: with in the low red zone. If you don't want
- 25:15Speaker 2: to do, you know, these kinds of things, be a
- 25:17Speaker 2: little creative. You either have to run the ball in
- 25:20Speaker 2: which we know they can and they have well they
- 25:22Speaker 2: certainly could last year with both Barkley and Jalen, or
- 25:27Speaker 2: you go with one on one fade type throws. Or
- 25:31Speaker 2: your quarterback has to be so quick with his reads,
- 25:35Speaker 2: his timing, his anticipation and his ball location. And quite frankly,
- 25:40Speaker 2: we all know that Jalen that's not truly the strength
- 25:43Speaker 2: of his game. Okay, so they're at the five yard
- 25:47Speaker 2: line and they come up with another you know, kind
- 25:49Speaker 2: of cool play. I mean, we've seen this many times.
- 25:51Speaker 2: It's not like they just came up with this, but
- 25:54Speaker 2: you're looking for these kinds of things. It's well done.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Yep. They obviously sucker everybody into giving the ball to bar.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Here you have the tight end and the left guard
- 26:02Speaker 1: ball or the right guard pulling, and there's a shell
- 26:05Speaker 1: by the way, nice blocking by steam. If everybody can
- 26:08Speaker 1: keep your eyes fifty six on that, I'll rewind it.
- 26:10Speaker 1: I thought he did a pretty good job there.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Continuing really really well done stuff. Quarterbacks love this stuff
- 26:17Speaker 2: because he's now got two touchdown passes, and he didn't
- 26:20Speaker 2: have to do much to get that.
- 26:22Speaker 4: Quarterbacks lover fantasy, by the way, it's fantastic.
- 26:25Speaker 1: For see Steam finishes the block the entire way. I
- 26:29Speaker 1: like it, even though the runners already in the end zone.
- 26:31Speaker 1: I just just like that toughness out of a guy.
- 26:33Speaker 2: All right.
- 26:34Speaker 1: So the last one is late in the second quarter.
- 26:36Speaker 1: He's gonna hit a j. Brown.
- 26:38Speaker 4: Uh.
- 26:38Speaker 1: This was just another view of the last touchdown that
- 26:42Speaker 1: we'll run through really quick, but late in the quarter.
- 26:45Speaker 1: This might have been the last time Todd blitz threw
- 26:47Speaker 1: Todd Bowles through a huge blitz right Jalen Hurts because
- 26:51Speaker 1: it was I believe third down again, it's late in
- 26:53Speaker 1: the corner.
- 26:55Speaker 2: It was nine yards on third and five. It was
- 26:57Speaker 2: another zero pressure. This time Winfield was clean through the
- 27:00Speaker 2: C gap. Brown bat Marson on the quick slant and
- 27:03Speaker 2: Hurts got him the football. I mean you see it
- 27:05Speaker 2: up top. Marrison's playing press man boom. J I mean,
- 27:10Speaker 2: Brown as a master at this kind of stuff. They
- 27:12Speaker 2: win zero. Jalen knew what he had and he hit him.
- 27:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:15Speaker 1: Now, the amazing thing on that one was I feel
- 27:18Speaker 1: like there were some routes just like that in the
- 27:20Speaker 1: second half that he just didn't hit the same way,
- 27:23Speaker 1: and why we will never know. It just didn't happen.
- 27:28Speaker 2: That's why it's so hard. I mean, like I said,
- 27:30Speaker 2: the only not the two things were done in the
- 27:33Speaker 2: second half that were not done in the first half.
- 27:35Speaker 2: Number one, as I said, they switched up a lot
- 27:38Speaker 2: of their pressure concepts to more four man sim pressures
- 27:42Speaker 2: as opposed to five and six man pressures. And number two,
- 27:45Speaker 2: they started using the spy tactic.
- 27:48Speaker 1: So did you mentioned the spy on the Vita A sack? Greg, Yes,
- 27:52Speaker 1: all right, well let's take a listen second Vita A
- 27:54Speaker 1: sack not the first one, correct? I think this is
- 27:57Speaker 1: the one.
- 28:00Speaker 2: It's Reddick is the spy. You probably should know something
- 28:03Speaker 2: is up pre snap go back because Reddick is lined
- 28:06Speaker 2: up as a stand up three technique, which he rarely
- 28:09Speaker 2: lines up as. So that should be an alert that
- 28:13Speaker 2: something is going to be different, a pre snap alert
- 28:16Speaker 2: that something's going to be different.
- 28:18Speaker 1: Yes, for those who are listening or don't know through that,
- 28:20Speaker 1: that's he's lined up over tyler Stein right, stand up position.
- 28:24Speaker 1: We used to call that the joker a little bit,
- 28:26Speaker 1: but yeah.
- 28:27Speaker 2: Right, So he's the spy.
- 28:29Speaker 4: Look at him. Wait, he's spying on her. Yeah, that's interesting.
- 28:32Speaker 2: Threeman pressure and see the key here is what they're
- 28:37Speaker 2: playing on the back end because keep going Urts wanted
- 28:41Speaker 2: Brown on the dig up to Dagger Dagger. It's an
- 28:45Speaker 2: inside vertical and a dig underneath it. But because they're
- 28:49Speaker 2: essentially playing kind of a two I don't know if
- 28:51Speaker 2: they call a two man, but it's a two man
- 28:53Speaker 2: concept and mccollin does a great job of undercutting the
- 28:57Speaker 2: route so the throw is.
- 28:58Speaker 1: Not there right top of the screen there.
- 29:01Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, see, I think this is the one where
- 29:04Speaker 2: I thought he could have thrown it in the flat,
- 29:05Speaker 2: but once he didn't. You know. Now again, I don't
- 29:08Speaker 2: know what's in his head.
- 29:10Speaker 1: But if he just gets the ball right here to Berkley,
- 29:15Speaker 1: he's gonna get at least a you know, if not
- 29:17Speaker 1: a first down.
- 29:18Speaker 2: I think, because he's facing that way, I think he
- 29:19Speaker 2: could get it to Goddard. You know, longer he waits,
- 29:23Speaker 2: the less it's there. But again, I don't want to
- 29:26Speaker 2: sit here and say he should have shouldn't have. I
- 29:28Speaker 2: don't know what's in his head. You know, maybe he
- 29:30Speaker 2: still thinks Brown's gonna beat him inside he's gonna have
- 29:32Speaker 2: a lane I don't know, or a passing window, but
- 29:36Speaker 2: he didn't, and then he gets sacked.
- 29:38Speaker 1: All right, all right. Then we have a throw where
- 29:41Speaker 1: I think you are alluded to this, where A J.
- 29:43Speaker 1: Brown is at the top of the screen, and I
- 29:46Speaker 1: swear we have played a play like this at least
- 29:50Speaker 1: three or four times last year, once against Cleveland that
- 29:53Speaker 1: stuck out where it's one of those plant and throw
- 29:55Speaker 1: and he just doesn't throw.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I know the player you're talking about, like you
- 30:00Speaker 2: would think that he should throw this ball.
- 30:03Speaker 1: Yeah, keep going, and just a four man rushed because
- 30:06Speaker 1: as we mentioned, they've stopped blitzing and bam right there
- 30:09Speaker 1: at the six because it's right now now.
- 30:11Speaker 2: I don't know if he thought, because it's a zone
- 30:14Speaker 2: look all the way, I don't know if he thought
- 30:17Speaker 2: that the defender over Goddard was going to slide into
- 30:21Speaker 2: the passing window. Again, only Jyaln could tell you when
- 30:26Speaker 2: he's not going to tell you. He's not going to
- 30:27Speaker 2: tell us or the world, so you know, because it's
- 30:31Speaker 2: clearly his own look. So if you want to give
- 30:33Speaker 2: him the benefit of the doubt, he could have thought
- 30:35Speaker 2: that that defender over, got her, was going to pass
- 30:38Speaker 2: him on, you know, match Barry delivered, passed him on
- 30:41Speaker 2: and slide into the window.
- 30:43Speaker 1: Hey, that makes sense, and I can understand it. And
- 30:44Speaker 1: we say one thing he does well is he'll either
- 30:47Speaker 1: o yeah, he'll get rid of it. He winds up
- 30:50Speaker 1: running here, doesn't get the first down. Oh he does,
- 30:52Speaker 1: get that, right, he got the first right, all right?
- 30:58Speaker 2: All right.
- 30:58Speaker 1: So in the second half, he throws the ball to
- 31:01Speaker 1: aj Brown three straight times.
- 31:03Speaker 2: Yep, as you mentioned, this.
- 31:05Speaker 1: Is the first of the three. I think it was
- 31:06Speaker 1: the fourth quarter. It was like the first possession of
- 31:09Speaker 1: the fourth quarter.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Yeah, well this is the fourth quarter for sure, yep.
- 31:16Speaker 1: First and then so.
- 31:20Speaker 2: You know, I mean this is actually very good coverage.
- 31:23Speaker 4: I mean, yeah, that's a complete you know.
- 31:26Speaker 2: The one thing people have to be aware of too,
- 31:28Speaker 2: is this is three step drop timing. So you know,
- 31:31Speaker 2: if somebody thinks, oh, look down below, someone's open, that's
- 31:34Speaker 2: not relevant to the play. It's three step drop timing.
- 31:38Speaker 2: And he's looking to his left so that the ball's
- 31:41Speaker 2: got to go to Brown or he's basically got to move.
- 31:45Speaker 2: I mean, you know, you don't you're not working from
- 31:48Speaker 2: one side of the field all the way to the
- 31:50Speaker 2: other side of the field in three step drop timing right.
- 31:55Speaker 1: Now, why do you call that? Well, is it a blitz?
- 31:57Speaker 1: It's no, it's still a four man pressure. It was
- 31:59Speaker 1: first time. M Yeah, it feels like they wanted something
- 32:02Speaker 1: short in an absence of a row.
- 32:04Speaker 2: Go back a sec this. It looks like they rotated
- 32:09Speaker 2: to cover two. Let me see, Yeah, it's cover two invert.
- 32:16Speaker 2: So what happened is is Morrison can sit. He's the
- 32:21Speaker 2: he's the right corner because Dean got hurt and Morrison
- 32:22Speaker 2: came in and played most of the played thirty snaps
- 32:25Speaker 2: or so is he can sit on this route because
- 32:27Speaker 2: he's got help over the top because they rotated to
- 32:30Speaker 2: cover two invert. The invert part was down below where
- 32:33Speaker 2: the corner McCollum became the deep haf defender, but up
- 32:36Speaker 2: top it's normal cover two. And so what you're looking
- 32:39Speaker 2: at here is the fact that Morrison can sit because
- 32:43Speaker 2: he has a windfield as the as the deep safety
- 32:47Speaker 2: playing over the top of him. So again, I don't
- 32:50Speaker 2: know if Jalen recognized or didn't recognize it. That we
- 32:53Speaker 2: can't answer. But because Morrison could sit, the throw was
- 32:56Speaker 2: not clean.
- 32:58Speaker 1: Got it and this is the very next app.
- 33:02Speaker 2: And this is the one where he runs the sit
- 33:04Speaker 2: route and he thinks he has him because it looks clean.
- 33:07Speaker 2: But the Bucks react really, really well, so.
- 33:10Speaker 1: You would say this is just as good coverage as anything.
- 33:12Speaker 2: Well, he thinks that that the the slot. Is it
- 33:16Speaker 2: the slot or is it Smith, who's who's best.
- 33:20Speaker 1: Becomes the number one on that side, So yeah, Brown
- 33:22Speaker 1: is still on the slot.
- 33:24Speaker 2: Right, I'm talking about Tykey Smith, who's the guy that
- 33:26Speaker 2: all intercepts. There might be Tykey Smith who who kind
- 33:29Speaker 2: of expands. He Jalen probably sees him expanding and thinks
- 33:34Speaker 2: that he's not going to be a factor in the throw.
- 33:36Speaker 3: All right, Yeah, I mean he would have had to
- 33:38Speaker 3: complete that if the ball had to come out like
- 33:41Speaker 3: about a half a second quicker.
- 33:43Speaker 4: It's just too hard.
- 33:44Speaker 2: It's always a reason why guys make throw I mean
- 33:47Speaker 2: ninety nine percent of the time. You know, every once
- 33:49Speaker 2: in a while there's a true head scratcher, you know,
- 33:51Speaker 2: But when you walk through these plays and then I
- 33:55Speaker 2: hope people understand that that's what I do, you know.
- 33:57Speaker 2: So I'm not going to sit here and say, oh
- 33:58Speaker 2: my god, Jalen, you're an idiot. What are you doing?
- 34:00Speaker 2: First of all, I never talk like that about players.
- 34:02Speaker 2: You guys know that. But I mean there's always a
- 34:04Speaker 2: reason why a guy can theoretically see you throw as
- 34:08Speaker 2: a viable throw. You know, it's and I'm just trying
- 34:11Speaker 2: to present both sides, yep. And they just wanted to
- 34:14Speaker 2: show him trying to go to AJ Brown. Now this
- 34:16Speaker 2: is on a three man rush the very next play,
- 34:18Speaker 2: and there's a spy again.
- 34:19Speaker 1: There's a spy right right, So I wonder if he
- 34:23Speaker 1: thought more were coming because this is still early and
- 34:27Speaker 1: the Bucks haven't completely called off all the blitzer yet
- 34:30Speaker 1: because it's this is the fourth quarter. Now, they haven't
- 34:31Speaker 1: blitzed that much. My fault.
- 34:33Speaker 4: Yeah, three man rush stop.
- 34:36Speaker 2: And actually Morrison, you know, he does a nice job here.
- 34:39Speaker 2: I mean he's kind of on it and plans and
- 34:42Speaker 2: drives and he does a really nice job.
- 34:45Speaker 4: And you know, sometimes, by the way, Jeff, you got
- 34:47Speaker 4: to give the defense credits like they want to. They
- 34:49Speaker 4: want to crush Hurts or the offense cortera, that guy
- 34:51Speaker 4: made a great play.
- 34:52Speaker 1: That's why we do this because we want to show
- 34:54Speaker 1: it's not always play calling, it's not always the quarterbacks lousy.
- 34:57Speaker 1: Sometimes you go and you go up against a good
- 35:00Speaker 1: and the Bucks have a good defense, and they've been
- 35:01Speaker 1: playing good defense, and but I mean you can look
- 35:04Speaker 1: at it and say their rhythm, their timing was off
- 35:07Speaker 1: on those first three plays as well, and sometimes you
- 35:10Speaker 1: see them make that play and it's there or.
- 35:12Speaker 4: More in breakers.
- 35:13Speaker 3: I think that's something with that AJ Brown, who's been
- 35:16Speaker 3: incredible it in his career. We've talked about it. I
- 35:18Speaker 3: don't know how many times with the the bag eight
- 35:21Speaker 3: place Greg from with the Titans. We've seen the Eagles
- 35:23Speaker 3: do it a little bit, but that's something that I
- 35:25Speaker 3: think it's almost impossible to stop on Aj with because
- 35:29Speaker 3: of the way he's built.
- 35:30Speaker 4: The dB always struggles to defend it.
- 35:33Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's the way we started this. It's just
- 35:36Speaker 2: hard to figure guys. I mean, I I was, I'm
- 35:39Speaker 2: being honest. I I you know, for a quarterback to
- 35:41Speaker 2: go oh for eight with no yards in the second half,
- 35:44Speaker 2: it's hard to figure that we can go over you know,
- 35:47Speaker 2: as we did. We went over a number of plays,
- 35:49Speaker 2: and you go over each and every single play and
- 35:51Speaker 2: there's a reason for each and every single play, but
- 35:54Speaker 2: it's you know, you just don't see that I mean,
- 35:57Speaker 2: you know you don't see oh for eight for zero?
- 36:00Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, and real quick, just from Saquon Barkley. This
- 36:03Speaker 1: is a first and ten and the third quarter. Some
- 36:05Speaker 1: of the things you said, you just don't either understand
- 36:07Speaker 1: or know what the concept is. Is this what you
- 36:10Speaker 1: call split flow, Greg, where you have both tight ends
- 36:12Speaker 1: aligned on different sides of the line of scrimmage.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Well, that in and of itself isn't split flow. Split
- 36:17Speaker 2: flow is where you take someone from one side and
- 36:21Speaker 2: he crosses the formation as a blocker. That split flow.
- 36:24Speaker 2: I don't think that happens here.
- 36:25Speaker 1: No, that didn't happen here. I just wanted to make
- 36:26Speaker 1: sure I differentiated.
- 36:27Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's not yet.
- 36:28Speaker 1: Yeah, what I noticed here is that you have seven
- 36:31Speaker 1: right five offensive line, two tight ends against a one, two, three, four, five, six, seven,
- 36:36Speaker 1: eight guys in the box. They're under center. I don't
- 36:39Speaker 1: know if the play has got to be changed in that,
- 36:41Speaker 1: but you're you don't. You're at a blocking I would
- 36:43Speaker 1: think disadvantage and less.
- 36:45Speaker 2: Well, he now move goes across the formation. Yes, so
- 36:49Speaker 2: that is is that then considering let's let's see the
- 36:51Speaker 2: rest of the play. Yeah, that's that has a split
- 36:55Speaker 2: flow out.
- 36:56Speaker 1: It did, all right, that's right. But my point is
- 36:59Speaker 1: you have seven blows and you didn't manipulate the numbers
- 37:02Speaker 1: very well in this year, and you just had a
- 37:04Speaker 1: free rusher. If you know, there's nothing Suon could do
- 37:07Speaker 1: at that point. I changed it.
- 37:10Speaker 2: That's not on you know. And again, you know, we
- 37:13Speaker 2: don't know, we don't know their check system there, We
- 37:15Speaker 2: don't know all that stuff.
- 37:17Speaker 1: Correct. I just felt in my head like maybe someone
- 37:20Speaker 1: could change the play there, but who knows. I mean,
- 37:22Speaker 1: they have to see that they're running into a mathematical discipline.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Maybe maybe it should have been changed, you know.
- 37:28Speaker 1: All right, So this one, Jurgens, I want you to
- 37:30Speaker 1: keep your eye on because this was another This was
- 37:32Speaker 1: a run that did not do well for Saquon and it.
- 37:35Speaker 2: Looks like he.
- 37:38Speaker 1: He's usually good at those angle blocks right where you
- 37:40Speaker 1: turn and block the guy, but he did not get
- 37:42Speaker 1: up there and cover Servasier.
- 37:44Speaker 2: Is that his name. Yes, he's got to make that block.
- 37:50Speaker 2: That's his guy. And the thing is he doesn't have
- 37:53Speaker 2: to make a great block. He just has to he
- 37:56Speaker 2: you know, cut him off, you know. Yeah, But here's
- 37:59Speaker 2: the other issue. Go back, go back, look at the
- 38:04Speaker 2: way this is blocked. Why is Barkley cutting this back inside?
- 38:08Speaker 1: Great point? Great point?
- 38:12Speaker 2: Look at that. Why is Barkley cutting this back?
- 38:14Speaker 1: I thought, why didn't he just go to keep going
- 38:16Speaker 1: to the left.
- 38:16Speaker 2: Yeah, and if Barkley prior we wouldn't have even noticed
- 38:23Speaker 2: that halt.
- 38:23Speaker 4: Yeah it was. It was yep. Right for the middle.
- 38:26Speaker 1: We did talk about easy pressing a little bit. Uh,
- 38:30Speaker 1: this one is a pull. You have the left guard
- 38:32Speaker 1: and the tight end pull to the right.
- 38:38Speaker 2: So Dickerson is the kickout blocker, and uh, who's is
- 38:42Speaker 2: Who's the tight end Goddard?
- 38:44Speaker 1: I think that one's Goddard on that side to see
- 38:45Speaker 1: that he's the rapper. Yeah, yep, he's the rapper. And
- 38:50Speaker 1: then yeah, it looks it looks like Dennis gets off
- 38:53Speaker 1: the block too easily from its calcuaterra.
- 38:56Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, so this is a guy getting off the
- 39:00Speaker 2: block because if you freeze it now, but just if
- 39:02Speaker 2: you froze it right as kal Katra is just starting
- 39:05Speaker 2: to make contact, that looks pretty good. It looks like
- 39:09Speaker 2: that that the rapper godd is going to get up,
- 39:11Speaker 2: you know, and maybe have no one to block because
- 39:13Speaker 2: you might get the crack block by Devanta Smith. I
- 39:16Speaker 2: think that is on Tige Smith, and this looks like
- 39:19Speaker 2: a you know, it might be a good game. Maybe
- 39:22Speaker 2: not a touchdown, but you know, a good game.
- 39:24Speaker 1: Right, And all he needs is a sliver. We've seen
- 39:26Speaker 1: him turn a sliver. Yeah, but cal Kata didn't hold it.
- 39:28Speaker 1: So we've now seen he got kal Katar.
- 39:31Speaker 4: Jeff lost this guy, he had him, and then Dennis
- 39:35Speaker 4: got off of him.
- 39:36Speaker 1: So people are asking, what's the deal, Well, it's not
- 39:38Speaker 1: We've seen a mathematical disadvantage. We've seen Jurgons not pull
- 39:41Speaker 1: off an angle block. We've seen cal Kata not pull
- 39:43Speaker 1: off an angle block. I'm not seeing Barklay not hit
- 39:45Speaker 1: a hole that was clean, right, And now we're gonna
- 39:47Speaker 1: see Jordan Malatta on a run, who I believe is
- 39:50Speaker 1: the culprit here if this is.
- 39:51Speaker 4: The correct run, Yes, I missed him, missed him.
- 39:55Speaker 1: Yeah, so that's five different.
- 39:58Speaker 2: All these things sort of snow ball. That's the thing,
- 40:01Speaker 2: you know, you know, when things are great, everything looks great,
- 40:04Speaker 2: and everybody does, you know, play as well. When they
- 40:07Speaker 2: start to snowball, Guys who never expect to have a
- 40:09Speaker 2: bad rep, Like when does my Alata look like this?
- 40:12Speaker 2: In the run game very rarely, right, right, I mean,
- 40:15Speaker 2: so it all just starts the snowball and you.
- 40:17Speaker 4: Can tell us about Jurgens and differs are not quite
- 40:20Speaker 4: what they were last year. That's still the case in
- 40:22Speaker 4: my opinion.
- 40:22Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, And then on this last one, you're gonna
- 40:25Speaker 1: it's gonna be three in because this one, I believe,
- 40:28Speaker 1: Look at it's twenty two personnel, you got two tight ends,
- 40:30Speaker 1: you got your fullback, thirty six lots to so you're heavy.
- 40:33Speaker 1: But watch the right guard Tyler.
- 40:34Speaker 4: Stein here, I got right by him.
- 40:37Speaker 2: Jeez.
- 40:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, so it's not what they do. That's
- 40:43Speaker 1: my point is it's just not one thing here, a
- 40:46Speaker 1: lot of things.
- 40:47Speaker 2: It's never one If anybody listening, you know, people listening
- 40:51Speaker 2: should know.
- 40:51Speaker 4: It's never one thing, right, definitely not.
- 40:56Speaker 1: I don't know if he even can. The way the
- 40:58Speaker 1: other guard is pulling to person here, Greg, it's it
- 41:01Speaker 1: seems like it's hard for I don't know. There's a
- 41:03Speaker 1: lot of traffic because it looks like Dicker Simmonstein basically
- 41:05Speaker 1: run into each other.
- 41:06Speaker 2: Yeah well yeah, yeah, I mean, first of all, what
- 41:09Speaker 2: happens here is who is that over? Uh Steen? It's
- 41:13Speaker 2: probably a guy? Is that the Simmons kid, who I
- 41:16Speaker 2: didn't know much about. He's more of a one tech
- 41:18Speaker 2: game here.
- 41:19Speaker 4: So, yeah, Gains got hurt by the way, Greg, Gaines
- 41:22Speaker 4: got hurt in the game.
- 41:23Speaker 1: Yeah it was Simmons.
- 41:24Speaker 2: Yes, And that's it. You know, that's a tough block.
- 41:27Speaker 2: I mean it's it's because he's he's got to hit
- 41:30Speaker 2: him and move him right away so that there's room
- 41:33Speaker 2: for the pullar to get.
- 41:35Speaker 1: Passing right and even lots who can't get there in
- 41:37Speaker 1: time to get Simmons off.
- 41:38Speaker 4: So it's funny.
- 41:40Speaker 3: Greg, after your comments earlier, I'm like, all right, we'll
- 41:43Speaker 3: see you know if we see it now, I see
- 41:45Speaker 3: it everything you were saying. You're trying to figure out.
- 41:49Speaker 3: The offensive line is not playing anywhere nearly as well
- 41:51Speaker 3: as it.
- 41:52Speaker 4: Did last season. I'm not saying Barkley's been perfect.
- 41:54Speaker 3: You show to play that Barclay didn't just didn't hit
- 41:57Speaker 3: the hole and the holes are not as big as
- 41:59Speaker 3: it used to be. But Greg, you have that stat
- 42:01Speaker 3: whereas four yards before contact last ye, which is incredible.
- 42:05Speaker 3: It's right now, so you talk about less than two
- 42:09Speaker 3: yards before contact.
- 42:10Speaker 1: Hey, fall is planting season. Did you know that many

- 44:33Speaker 1: an experience made for Philly fans twenty one and up.
- 44:37Speaker 4: That's an offensive line issue.
- 44:39Speaker 1: Yeah, well that's why I really picked those plays. I mean,
- 44:41Speaker 1: those plays all jumped out, but I wanted to say
- 44:44Speaker 1: it's all something. But I definitely think with those five clips,
- 44:47Speaker 1: three of them are on offensive line. So I think
- 44:49Speaker 1: that's the biggest thing you can isolate right now and
- 44:51Speaker 1: say what's different.
- 44:52Speaker 2: All I'm just not playing as well, you know, And
- 44:55Speaker 2: I think we have to be careful about, you know,
- 44:58Speaker 2: picking out like one good play, you know. And I'm
- 45:01Speaker 2: not talking about you, Jeff. I'm talking about as we
- 45:02Speaker 2: watch the Eagles ideally get better on offense than just
- 45:06Speaker 2: picking out one play. Like let's say they let's say
- 45:09Speaker 2: they played Denver and their defense plays great and they
- 45:11Speaker 2: beat Denver twenty to seventeen. Okay, just throwing that out,
- 45:14Speaker 2: but their offense is still not great, but they hit
- 45:17Speaker 2: a player two. You have to be careful about then
- 45:19Speaker 2: saying okay, they're back.
- 45:20Speaker 4: The back because their individual plays, which.
- 45:24Speaker 1: That's actually why I like doing the sequence the way
- 45:27Speaker 1: we did it with both Pertz and Saquon to show everybody,
- 45:29Speaker 1: all right. So that is a look at the offense,
- 45:31Speaker 1: some of the good things you saw against the Blitz,
- 45:33Speaker 1: some of the bad things you saw in the second
- 45:35Speaker 1: half from the running game. In the next episode we
- 45:38Speaker 1: will do the defensive side of the football. A lot
- 45:41Speaker 1: more positives there, all right. So for inside the tape
- 45:44Speaker 1: for Greg Cosel and Adam Kaplan, I'm Jeff Mosher. Thanks
- 45:47Speaker 1: for watching. We'll catch all on the next one.
