- 0:00And gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk all
- 0:04things Major League Baseball. Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate
- 0:09Reyes. It all starts right now.
- 0:14Hello. Welcome back to the three O take
- 0:16presented by Chinook CD. This episode 589 I'll be your
- 0:19host Kyle Korn. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:22Reyes. Nate, JB Casey.
- 0:30I don't. How are we?
- 0:32I I don't particularly like that I was last there.
- 0:35I got the first one. Yeah, what's that all about?
- 0:38I don't know, just trying to end with you.
- 0:42There. How are we?
- 0:45I asked the question. Been better, been better and.
- 0:51I don't even want to freaking hear it.
- 0:54Don't even want to freaking hear it.
- 0:56It's. Hey, you guys got Ryan Weathers.
- 1:00Yeah. I wanted to go with that not
- 1:04being mentioned on this episode. No disrespect, didn't even have
- 1:09it on the rundown for tonight so.
- 1:11I know, that's why I figured we could skip over it.
- 1:16Look, look, I truly, I mean no disrespect.
- 1:19We'll get into the main topics here, but super quick since
- 1:23we're on the subject. How in the world is Ryan
- 1:26Weathers? Again, no disrespect, I'm not.
- 1:28A big league player. For human living human beings.
- 1:33I don't know, man. I don't know.
- 1:36The Marlins want it. That's the first time they've
- 1:38won a trade since that's ever. That almost seemed like a a a
- 1:45pity move for the Marlins. Like here you go, here take.
- 1:48Yeah, I know you've been screwed over the last few years.
- 1:51Here's this. Insane speaking again, Speaking
- 1:55of getting screwed, the Sox, the Sox missed out on their guy and
- 2:02I would love to start with this. I've I've taken my shot at Nate,
- 2:05Josh, I believe over the last month at some point you
- 2:12indicated that there's no such thing as a bad one year deal.
- 2:16And I would just like I would like to look at the the Dom, I
- 2:21would like to look at the domino effect of this what turned out
- 2:25to be a one year deal because this sucks.
- 2:31OK, so let me set it up for you. You decided to go with a
- 2:35three-year deal. I didn't decide to go a
- 2:39three-year deal with you. You were on the Red Sox from the
- 2:43Red Sox to go with a three-year deal.
- 2:45What a show with an opt out after every year, right?
- 2:48And so essentially signed a one year.
- 2:50Now had they just signed a one year deal and you knew it was
- 2:53one year, that'd be one thing. You could go the route of the
- 2:56Pirates don't offer opt outs and don't get the players and you at
- 3:01least had him for a year little you could just not get him.
- 3:08Little did you know he was going to make that about the pirates.
- 3:10You didn't. See that?
- 3:13Hey, let's talk Alex Bregman. Yeah, so the Pittsburgh Pirates
- 3:16don't. Cry wolf to me about getting a
- 3:18player for a year. Unbelievable.
- 3:21Unbelievable. No, this isn't about the Red
- 3:24Sox. This is about the Cubs.
- 3:26Cubs A series of events though, that we need to get into because
- 3:30that is insane. Yeah, so, well, OK, fine.
- 3:35We'll start there. So.
- 3:36Show me your misery. Red Red Sox bring in Alex
- 3:40Bregman. OK, And then by which?
- 3:44Which, by the way, they did have Rafael Devers already, so that's
- 3:49a whole big thing. He got pissed.
- 3:51And then there's the whole I played turd.
- 3:53And then there was there was the drama that ensued from that.
- 3:58And then you think, oh, Alex Bregman might end up playing
- 4:02second base. And then Alex Bregman proceeds
- 4:04to take 0 ground balls at second base.
- 4:07Alex Bregman was the 3rd baseman from the jump.
- 4:10Right. They trade Rafael Devers to the
- 4:13San Francisco Giants. You're thinking, OK, then this
- 4:16is our guy. This is our guy.
- 4:19We'll, you know, we'll, we'll, they have to hopefully extend
- 4:23them. And then talks, talks continue
- 4:25and then they get pushed to the offseason.
- 4:27We'll talk maybe an extension in the offseason that didn't happen
- 4:31because you know why? You know who Alex Bregman's
- 4:34agent is? Never heard of him.
- 4:36Yeah, some guy was never going to discuss an extension, said
- 4:42we're going to free agency to get the offer that we should
- 4:46have gotten last year. Waits it out.
- 4:50We get to the point of free agency where the Red Sox think
- 4:52we got to sing the bag. He doesn't have any other
- 4:54serious suitors. We're just going to ride this
- 4:58thing out. In come the Cubs.
- 5:01They said how about 5175? And now he's a Chicago Cub.
- 5:07So if you're following that equation, one Alex Bregman plus
- 5:15the Chicago Cubs equals zero third baseman for the Red Sox.
- 5:21Yeah, it's tough. Look, dude, the whole it didn't
- 5:26sound like the money was that big of a deal.
- 5:28It was the no trade clause. The No trade.
- 5:31Clause to include that. Why I think?
- 5:37I you're expecting, you're asking me to explain the Red Sox
- 5:40front office front office motives.
- 5:43Carabas say Sale got one and Pedroia, I think Pedroia, I
- 5:50think those. But I mean, let's face it, those
- 5:54are two way long ago front offices.
- 5:58Let's not act like it's the same, you know what I mean?
- 6:01Well, I mean, you're still talking about the same ownership
- 6:04group. Who?
- 6:05Isn't. But I mean, they're, they're at
- 6:08least playing a role. In Are we holding our GM to that
- 6:12tight of a leash to not allow them to use that card?
- 6:17When it comes to, I don't want to say Bregman's a generational
- 6:22talent by any means, but it's definitely someone you can build
- 6:26an organization around. I don't know, man, I don't know.
- 6:31You don't have that shit that you can play then just be like
- 6:34I'm I only get one of. These it came down, it came down
- 6:40to the no trade clause and the defer and the structure of the
- 6:43deferrals. By the way, CHIT.
- 6:46Thanks. Yeah.
- 6:46I didn't want to have to mark this explicit, you know?
- 6:49Yeah. How much of the how much of the
- 6:52Rafi Devers trade had to do with the no trade clause?
- 6:57Like you're not signing there if you think, well, I'd see that
- 7:00they just trade their guys away. I mean, Bogarts was traded and
- 7:03and Devers was traded. If I'm going to sign here, I'm
- 7:07not going. To 100% And if we're looking in
- 7:10the mirror like what? How old was Rafi Devers when he
- 7:13had that, that big extension? Younger than Bregman now like
- 7:1913. And like, I, I, I'm not throwing
- 7:24shade at Bregman. I think he's a very good player.
- 7:28I, I think at that time, Rafi Devers is better than what
- 7:32Bregman is now. I think he brought more to the
- 7:33table now how Rafi has developed and you know what he's going to
- 7:38be, Is it a whole different story?
- 7:39But like, I would still probably argue that Rafi Devers is more
- 7:42valuable than Alex Bregman, so it's like I.
- 7:45Think he was 2020. 7. Yeah, Bregman's looking in the
- 7:49mirror and he's like, look, let's face it, I'm good, but I'm
- 7:53not. I'm not Rafi Devers and they're
- 7:55willing to trade a home grown guy like that.
- 7:59It's just right. Dude, I'm not trying to throw
- 8:02shade. It does make me excited.
- 8:05I do like it. I do enjoy it.
- 8:07The whole whatever this is, whatever this this whole
- 8:10dumpster fire situation is going, but it is like it's a
- 8:16head scratcher. This is a weird I this is one of
- 8:20the weirdest series of events of like roster configuration.
- 8:25That's like one of the biggest fumbles.
- 8:27They have done this with the star caliber player before.
- 8:31They did this with JD Martinez where they just waited it.
- 8:34They waited him out. They said we're calling your
- 8:37bluff. You've got nothing other than
- 8:39what we're offering you right now.
- 8:42And Dave Dombrowski is like, take it or leave it, buddy.
- 8:45And JD is like, all right, fine, I'll take it.
- 8:47And he ended up coming over and then, you know, that was that.
- 8:52I don't think you can play that same game, though, with Alex
- 8:56Bregman because you very clearly are aware of other like it's
- 9:00it's been made public. There are other teams that are
- 9:03lurking around the corner to acquire his services.
- 9:07And you tried, you tried getting cute with, you know, the no
- 9:13trade clause in the deferral structure and all that and it
- 9:17you got left with nothing. Well.
- 9:19What do we think of the fit in Chicago?
- 9:20Let's just get to that. I mean, I think it sucks for
- 9:24him, just the way his game plays.
- 9:26I, I think you would have been, you would have had it made in
- 9:28the shade if you would have stayed in, in Boston, stayed at
- 9:31Fenway. But now you go to a place where
- 9:34it quite literally comes down to which way the wind's blowing
- 9:38that day. Like it's, it's, I mean, what
- 9:43you have to see that coming. I mean, I guess if, if, if
- 9:46you're Alex Bragman, you've got a young family, you'll like the,
- 9:49you like the guaranteed money. And maybe you just let your, you
- 9:53know, statistical trajectory take a little bit of a hit, I
- 9:56guess, or stronger of a hit. I don't know.
- 9:58I don't know what that's going to end up looking like when it's
- 10:00all said and done. But maybe it just came down to
- 10:03the the the consistency of of knowing you're going to be
- 10:08there. They came down to the, you know,
- 10:10the money. They were willing to to bend,
- 10:14not break, but they're willing to bend where the Red Sox
- 10:17weren't. Maybe it was easier decision
- 10:20than than we think for him. Yeah.
- 10:22That's interesting. JB, can you do me a favor and
- 10:25and look up his fly ball rate? Yeah.
- 10:28So, well, I'll start with the expected home runs by park.
- 10:32Adjusted by park on on, Savant actually has three more home
- 10:35runs in Chicago than in Boston. So now those are every, you know
- 10:40what I'm saying? They don't play 162 at each
- 10:42park. Yeah.
- 10:43But that's. But the numbers actually, from
- 10:46where he's hitting it actually favor Wrigley Field a little
- 10:50bit. It doesn't.
- 10:51It can't count wind. Yeah, not accurately.
- 10:55So that point still remains. But I think Bregman's bigger
- 10:59than just home runs too. That's what I think.
- 11:01There's that's, you know, there's more than their.
- 11:03Fly ball rate because it's like a.
- 11:05Guy Pepper. Strikeout.
- 11:06The strikeout. Percentage is way down like he
- 11:08doesn't strike out very often. He's got bat to ball skills and
- 11:12you're kind of joining a lineup that is very similar to that,
- 11:16right? Like Nico Horner, very good bat
- 11:18to ball skills. You know, you have a, a PCA
- 11:22who's like transitioned his game to now focus on bat to ball
- 11:27skills and shortening up a little bit and Ian Hap and
- 11:31you've got like kind of an identity that I feel like is
- 11:34being created in Chicago that Alex Breven could fit into.
- 11:38That's why I was curious about the fly ball rate because it's
- 11:40like if he is a big fly ball hitter that I don't know.
- 11:44I'm it's, I think it's weird to see a very low strikeout
- 11:47percentage in a very high fly ball percentage.
- 11:50I feel like if you're low on strikeouts you're probably on
- 11:54the lower side of fly ball, but I could be wrong. 26.6 fly ball
- 11:57rate 23.3 line drive so but career 28.7.
- 12:04Seems like it's starting to fall and he's starting to kind of
- 12:07figure his game out a little bit.
- 12:09I I think it's an interesting fit.
- 12:15It's interesting what the whole like, you know, you know, Matt
- 12:18Shaw didn't necessarily like jump off the page, you know, a
- 12:23lot of a lot of build up around his name, but like didn't really
- 12:28do much and still kind of a question mark.
- 12:32I mentioned Nico Horner and like, I think it's, I've seen it
- 12:38come out that the asking price would be very high if he ended
- 12:41up getting moved. I kind of like it.
- 12:47I kind of like it. It's it's unique and I feel like
- 12:52they're starting to create an identity.
- 12:55Sort of goes without saying, but you lose you lose a little bit
- 12:58of leverage trying to move either one of those you guys now
- 13:02that you brought Bregman in because teams can see where
- 13:07you're at personalized and that you.
- 13:13For running, running through, running through Comets, Cubs
- 13:16fans love Nico Horner. I kept seeing like heart and
- 13:19soul of this team, like let's extend him and all of this kind
- 13:24of stuff and. If that makes sense.
- 13:27That could be the move and then Shaw's available.
- 13:30If not, then Shaw moves into that role and I think you keep
- 13:35them both. But also, if they have Nico and
- 13:39Dansby and Bregman, there's not an infield better.
- 13:42Yeah. Defensively, yeah, there's not
- 13:45an infield better. Well, that's where I saw like
- 13:47the Giants maybe be interested in in Nico Horner and then that
- 13:51that that infield would be better.
- 13:54But yeah, I I think it's interesting.
- 13:58I mean, they they have a lot of names and they've obviously
- 14:02added to pitching as well. So like, I kind of like what the
- 14:04Cubs are are starting to do in a division that is up for grabs.
- 14:11The Brewers won more games than anyone else last year.
- 14:14That's up for grabs. Cubs though, are your favorite
- 14:20for that division even though even though we're talking about
- 14:24ML BS Best record last. Year, I think if Freddie gets
- 14:27moved, yeah, I think if Freddie gets moved, it kind of just like
- 14:31it's it's another Josh Hader move in that mind, in that
- 14:35mindset or it's like, why why do the Brewers need to do that?
- 14:38And and they they look at this this asset that they have and
- 14:43they try to sell high and you're like, was it did it make sense?
- 14:48You just came off a really good year, like, I don't know.
- 14:51So if they move Freddy, which it sounds like it could happen.
- 14:56That, but they moved Burns, they got first place.
- 14:58They moved Hader, they got first place.
- 15:00They moved Craig Counsel, they got first place.
- 15:02I don't know what how? What do they do?
- 15:04Ball. They definitely play good ball.
- 15:07I hate him. I just, I like the I like the
- 15:10Cubs rotation and I like this ad.
- 15:14I've never seen a guy go more back and forth on the Brewers
- 15:18than Nate. I think he, I think the last
- 15:22place we left it was that he had finally come around on him and
- 15:25respected their game. But now it seems as though he's
- 15:28walking that back and said I like the Cubs.
- 15:30Mediocre at best. Shoving words in there, are you?
- 15:37Well, you did say the division was up for grabs and I they kind
- 15:42of steamrolled the league last year.
- 15:45Yeah. I Does that say more about the
- 15:47Brewers or does it say more about the lack of competitive
- 15:50competitiveness in the division? 03 Playoff team division.
- 15:58That's just the way it shook out.
- 16:03I'm not falling for that trap. Yeah.
- 16:05Yeah, what are we talking about? Come on, don't fall for that
- 16:08one. Thanks.
- 16:11Next. Well, we're talking pitching.
- 16:14Let's, let's keep it moving down the line here.
- 16:17Still talking about the Red Sox, Ranger Suarez in.
- 16:21You can't even call it a pivot move because it's not, it's not
- 16:23an infielder. You still have, you still have
- 16:26voids in the infield, specifically at 3rd and 2nd,
- 16:33which just an insane series of events.
- 16:40You came into the offseason saying you needed a big bat, you
- 16:44needed a number 2 and I think the assumption was that you were
- 16:48going to bring Alex Bregman back.
- 16:53Their first move was to get Sonny Gray.
- 16:55And we're sitting there going is that is that the number 2?
- 17:00Seemed like that was going to be the case.
- 17:03It wasn't until today when they signed Ranger Suarez to A5 year,
- 17:08$130 million deal, which seemingly came from the clouds.
- 17:12I thought he was going to Baltimore.
- 17:13I thought he was a lock for Baltimore.
- 17:16Seems like he made a lot of sense there.
- 17:20The Red Sox were just like, yeah, we money, we've got money,
- 17:23sure, let's spend some money. And they threw it at Ranger
- 17:26Suarez. I don't know where.
- 17:29And we'll get into this maybe a little bit here in a minute.
- 17:31I don't know where this leaves them in the Beau Bichette
- 17:34conversation prior to this deal they made with Ranger Suarez,
- 17:39AKA actually spending real American currency.
- 17:43I, I had no reason to believe, I had no faith that they would,
- 17:51you know, re divert the money towards a guy like Beau
- 17:55Bichette. This money that they, you know,
- 17:57they're able to get from, from the Devers situation.
- 18:00PR move Like what was this? I don't know.
- 18:03I, I don't want to, I, I'm hesitant to call it a panic move
- 18:08because I, I feel I, I'm a big Ranger Suarez guy.
- 18:14I like Ranger Suarez. I would have preferred 3, maybe
- 18:17four years. But I, I guess to, to get a guy
- 18:20like that, you got to push it to 5 because another guy where we
- 18:24know that there was multiple suitors.
- 18:26So it's not exactly like you wait that one out either.
- 18:32No, I'm just, I'm just saying I would have preferred a a a
- 18:36shorter, shorter deal. Sounds like an overpay.
- 18:41You're saying Same AAV? I mean, what does that come out
- 18:46to 5130? I mean, it's not, it's, it's not
- 18:50so much about the money. It's just about I would feel so
- 18:55confident in a three-year, three, maybe even 4 year deal
- 19:00looking very good. But 5 is when I don't.
- 19:02I just don't know. I don't know what that's going
- 19:05to look like when it's all said and done.
- 19:06Vienna 2, Vienna 2. By that point at the end of the
- 19:12contract, which you're saying, yeah, that's that's a nice 1-2.
- 19:16Three, though. Yeah, that's a nice 123.
- 19:19I think there's a lot of teams in this league that would be
- 19:22thrilled with that 123. It's a nice one through 5 right
- 19:26now. I mean, six and seven ain't bad
- 19:28either. Yeah.
- 19:30Are they going six man rotation or?
- 19:31Dude, I don't know. I don't know.
- 19:33I, I hope they, they offload somebody because right now it's
- 19:37looking out. It's it's crochet Gray or
- 19:39crochet Suarez Gray Oviedo or yeah, Baio Oviedo Oviedo.
- 19:47And then you got Connelly early in there as well.
- 19:50So and then Peyton Tolley is going to he's going to be, I
- 19:53don't know if he's going to be like a spot start guy this year,
- 19:55like a a second-half more consistent kind of guy, but
- 20:00who's really say. But All in all, it's been a
- 20:04roller coaster. What a stupid offseason.
- 20:11Strange, it got even stupider when?
- 20:16Well, that depends on who you ask, I guess.
- 20:19But maybe for Nolan Arenado. A breath of fresh air.
- 20:22Nolan Arenado getting shipped to Arizona, finally ending the saga
- 20:27that was Nolan Arenado's Cardinal tenure B Plus.
- 20:33Transition by the way. It's fine.
- 20:37It's not one of my best, but, you know, can't, can't win them
- 20:40all. Yeah.
- 20:41Yeah. But I would like to see you take
- 20:43over the transition game. Let's see.
- 20:44That's not what I do. I'll put you.
- 20:46I'll put you in that. In that.
- 20:49Seat you guys keep getting all your buttons that you get
- 20:52depressed you get the nice stuff where it connects to your
- 20:55lights. I you're you're lucky I'm here.
- 21:01You know that's. So that's well, I know.
- 21:04Yeah. So I know I'm a.
- 21:08Red Sox fan. Yeah, so let's talk.
- 21:10Nolan Arenado now going to be posting.
- 21:14Up. Show me how to do that.
- 21:15Going to be posting up in Arizona.
- 21:20Josh, you seem to have you seem to take issue with this move for
- 21:28what reason I'm not exactly sure.
- 21:30It seemed to me, based on your take, that you failed to take
- 21:34into consideration the human element here.
- 21:38It's not. Yeah, I'm not.
- 21:39It's. Not an attack.
- 21:41That's an observation. It's worth saying initial,
- 21:44initial thoughts were the the Cardinals just dumped a future
- 21:51Hall of Famer for $11 million. And I mean, for a guy who hasn't
- 21:55thrown a professional pitch yet and was drafted in the eighth
- 21:59round, so like it. That's what it seemed like, I
- 22:03think, but I'll let you make your point.
- 22:05I think I saw the Cardinals of between.
- 22:08What were the? Did they kick?
- 22:12It was Arnado Gray. And Who am I?
- 22:18Who am I? Missing here Wilson.
- 22:20Contreras, Wilson Contreras, Yeah.
- 22:21They kicked in money for him too.
- 22:22I thought it, I think I read it was like 59 million.
- 22:29Yeah. 59. Yeah.
- 22:31Arnado Gray Contreras. Yep.
- 22:34Did I also see that they have no players under contract beyond
- 22:38this season? What are we doing that can't be?
- 22:41Accurate. The Cardinals, when they hit the
- 22:43reset button, they do it faster than most teams and that's
- 22:48that's the annoying thing. This doesn't RIP off the
- 22:51Band-Aid, this is like just cut off a limb.
- 22:54This is insane. They don't care about the money.
- 22:58They've got the money. They're they're moving pieces.
- 23:03I mean, they're really going to rely on JJ Weatherholt this
- 23:07year. And I mean, I don't, I don't
- 23:11know. Can I see your future Hall of
- 23:13Famer take and raise you a, a Cody Bellinger?
- 23:18Take this to me, that to me, believe me, I'm a, I'm a big
- 23:24Nolan or an auto guy. Call him a future Hall of Famer
- 23:30gives me flashbacks to like as recently as this season,
- 23:34honestly, this offseason, because I'm still seeing the tag
- 23:36thrown around where it's like former MVP Cody Bellinger.
- 23:40It's like we're at a different stage of the game now.
- 23:44Like I don't I don't know if that tag necessarily matters
- 23:48right here, right now. It's like, it's almost, it's
- 23:51almost like, I mean, it, it's not the greatest example because
- 23:54he he actually threw well, but it's like, it's like having a
- 23:59gripe. If you pull Clayton Kershaw from
- 24:02a game too early, which happened many times.
- 24:04But it's like we're talking about a future Hall of Famer
- 24:06here. But it's like, yeah, but the
- 24:09guy's guy's like guy's like 80 years old.
- 24:12It's not, this isn't Clayton Kershaw of like 20, you know,
- 24:15age, age 25, you know what I mean?
- 24:18So it's like has his is his defensive ability still there?
- 24:23Yes, to the same degree. I I would have to look closer
- 24:27more closely at the numbers, but I would probably lean no, but
- 24:31still top tier defender. His offense has presumably
- 24:36regressed. So if you combine that with the
- 24:39fact that they've been shopping him for some time, there was
- 24:43there was bad blood there. I don't know if they ended up,
- 24:45you know, reconciling to to any degree or whatever, but they
- 24:49clearly didn't want him. There didn't really seem like
- 24:52Nolan wanted to be there. I, it just seemed like a when I,
- 24:56when I saw that I'm like, OK, I seems like all parties involved
- 24:59can breathe now. Yeah, that's where the that's
- 25:02where the take breaks down when you, like I said, the initial,
- 25:05the initial thought was what are you doing?
- 25:08I'm OK. Like I understand moving him.
- 25:10I was blown away that it wasn't like that.
- 25:15You did. It wasn't a different result.
- 25:16It, it felt like, yeah, it felt like you were treating him a
- 25:19certain way by saying like, dude, we only need to save
- 25:2211,000,000 to get rid of you. And it's like, this is a guy who
- 25:28is one of the one of the dudes from from, from the time he's
- 25:32been here. But the part where that breaks
- 25:35down is from Arenado's side. If he wanted out, what are you
- 25:39going to do? It's not treating him anyway one
- 25:43way or another if he's saying you got to Get Me Out of here.
- 25:46Well, you also used the word earlier was leverage and if
- 25:50they, I mean, they were shopping in for two years and it's
- 25:54obvious that like the asking price wasn't met.
- 25:59It's crazy to me that the asking price is now look, no
- 26:05disrespect, nobody and and 75% of the money, whatever it was
- 26:14like that's come on. I don't understand what the car.
- 26:20I don't I don't get that. That's not, that's not anything
- 26:24that's not competitive, it's not intelligent.
- 26:26That's not good business. I don't know what it is.
- 26:30And it to me, I feel like the asking price was probably higher
- 26:36at last year's trade deadline and probably last year's
- 26:39offseason. And then you, you waited too
- 26:42long and it spoiled and you sold low.
- 26:48This is and now there there are rumors about moving Brenda
- 26:51Donovan too. And it's like, I don't what is
- 26:54this team? What are what are we doing?
- 26:58Why are we now moving? Why are we talking about moving
- 27:00guys under control? I don't.
- 27:02It's just strange. They they operate strangely.
- 27:06They operated strangely with Ollie Marmol and in the whole
- 27:11Wilson Contreras debacle, is is he a catcher?
- 27:13Is he not? And then it's weird of like,
- 27:16you're immediately shopping, you know, Goldie and and Arenado.
- 27:21And then it's this strange action with Jordan Walker, like,
- 27:25is he 1/3 baseman? Is he an outfielder?
- 27:27Let's bring him up. Let's bring him down.
- 27:28Let's send him down. When he's succeeding it, it's
- 27:31weirdo activity. I don't like anything happening
- 27:35in Saint Louis, and to burn it down and start over at a loss,
- 27:42at a massive loss with nothing coming back in return is so
- 27:46strange. Makes no sense.
- 27:48And the Diamondbacks infield, by the way, is loaded with talent.
- 27:53You couldn't get one of those names back.
- 27:56You couldn't get Jordan Waller in return.
- 27:58You couldn't get Blaise Alexander in return like I don't
- 28:02I There's nothing that you're wanting to get back.
- 28:05You're kicking in 30 + 1,000,000.
- 28:08What are we doing? I think that's not competing.
- 28:12I think 5 million of that is still being paid by Colorado.
- 28:17Now that's another dumpster fire I don't want to address.
- 28:21Speaking of Colorado, let's talk about Bichette.
- 28:24And I'm not I'm not talking about his dad fancy.
- 28:28We're talking about Bo. That's an A minus.
- 28:31Bo knows going back to what we were saying earlier about this
- 28:36possibly being a name that could end up in Boston.
- 28:40Can't, can't say at this point that I I see that being the end
- 28:44results, but has been has been floated around.
- 28:49It seems like Philly is the is the move there.
- 28:54And I, I said to you guys before earlier today where I was like,
- 28:58I'm finally giving in to talking about some of these rumors that
- 29:01we're that we're hearing. And I got to say a little pat,
- 29:04pat myself on the back. I feel like I did a pretty good
- 29:07job at holding off until we got to a point in the offseason
- 29:10where we're looking at a couple names in Beau Bouchet and Kyle
- 29:13Tucker where it's got to be a matter of days.
- 29:17And that's the only reason I really wanted to bring up either
- 29:20of those names is because I feel like the list of teams for both
- 29:26we've we've dwindled it down to the who's really truly left at
- 29:32the table wanting to make a move here.
- 29:34And I think for Boba Shet, that involves the Phillies.
- 29:40And I guess for the sake of, you know, conversation, I'll include
- 29:46the Red Sox. That's kind of seems like that's
- 29:51kind of it. It's always a mystery team.
- 29:58Yeah, I mean, we didn't talk about it, but like the Padres
- 30:01were super in on on Nolan Arenado.
- 30:06Like that was like a big, I mean, they, they tried hard for
- 30:10that. So it's like, are they the
- 30:11mystery team or are they? And they're going to make them a
- 30:13first baseman, too. Yeah.
- 30:15Like are they thinking of something a little bit
- 30:17different, a little bit weird? I don't know.
- 30:21Who's his second for them now? Nice, Kim.
- 30:29No, he's in. He's in Atlanta.
- 30:32Is Xander back to short full time?
- 30:34Like that's a full on thing. Think so, Cronenworth back to
- 30:38second? Or is he saying well?
- 30:39Cronenworth was at first. You're right though, there is
- 30:42somebody at 2nd. I'm not blanking.
- 30:46Him. Gosh.
- 30:48I, I no, it is Cronenworth arises it is it?
- 30:52Arises free agent. Free agent?
- 30:53I thought they plugged first somewhere else though.
- 30:55True, True. True.
- 30:57I don't know. I'll get it.
- 30:59Give me an interesting name, I'll get it.
- 31:02They're an interesting place. I should.
- 31:03Say I don't. I don't think there's a mystery.
- 31:05Team here. No, I, I.
- 31:08Sung mung song? Sure.
- 31:11Sung. Yeah.
- 31:11Moon Song. I would love Bo and Philly.
- 31:15I mean, I'd love him in Boston too.
- 31:17That'd be that goes back to the point I was saying earlier this
- 31:20offseason where I'm like, figure out places if you're, if you are
- 31:25the Phillies, figure out where you can hit the reset button,
- 31:29freshen things up a little bit, get new blood coming into 2026
- 31:35and go for it again. You don't need to completely
- 31:38level it to the ground. You don't need to be shipping
- 31:41Bryce out of town. Like I saw fit.
- 31:42Some Philly fans calling for insane, a guy like Cassianos.
- 31:46OK, it's been fun. Here's the door.
- 31:50You have to kick in money to move him.
- 31:52Bring in a guy like Bo, you're still in great shape for this
- 31:58season. You're still going to be a
- 31:59contender in October. But what I was wondering is, are
- 32:04they that different than where the Yankees are?
- 32:09Like, is Bryson Stott now a platoon guy?
- 32:12Do they move him right? The same thing for the Yankees.
- 32:16Is well, no, he. Was he has.
- 32:18He put he played third. So balm.
- 32:23That's why I'm saying it's. The same ball would have to get
- 32:24shipped. Out the Yankees would have to
- 32:26move jazz, the Phillies would have to move balm.
- 32:29I don't think it's that far off. I know there's a little bit
- 32:32extra fluff, the fact that Don donning Donny baseball is now
- 32:36the the bench coach there in Philly and there's a little bit
- 32:39of ties there. But like it is I I don't know
- 32:47where the Yankees are at because I can't really tell.
- 32:49It seems like a big trade is coming because they're loading
- 32:51up on pitching. But the Phillies outside of
- 32:56vibes, I don't it's it's an interesting move because it has
- 33:02to be followed or predicated with a move.
- 33:08Well, Boehm only has one year left.
- 33:09Kind of like the Nico Horner situation, except it's not the
- 33:12lifeblood, not the organization. So.
- 33:17Yeah. And Stott's probably the best
- 33:21fielder of that infield. I guess there's a there's a
- 33:25scenario where Stott goes to 3rd.
- 33:27Yeah. And and Bo goes to 2nd just
- 33:30because of that if if that's just depends on what?
- 33:33They want to athlete. That's what I was saying is that
- 33:35like it's, it's interesting because now you're talking about
- 33:38two guys finding 2 new positions.
- 33:40Bohm would be the guy to go. I think it's.
- 33:42I think it's that simple. Yeah.
- 33:45We already know he's been looking, they've been looking to
- 33:48move him. Yeah.
- 33:50He's been on the block this this would come as no surprise if
- 33:53they decided to move him. You don't know how much I hear
- 33:56that. He's been on a block.
- 34:00Well, no. Every show I hear that it's
- 34:03coming, that we're going after Bo.
- 34:07It's. Fans, fans wise, not not the.
- 34:10Pirates. Oh yeah.
- 34:11Oh, the Pirates fans. I'm not saying that's a like
- 34:15Pirates fans are convinced it's over.
- 34:18I didn't know what scenes were talking about.
- 34:19I'm. Like sorry, sorry pirates.
- 34:22Yeah, it's no, it's. Ridiculous.
- 34:24That's all I hear. That's fantastic.
- 34:26I'm as you know, I'm a big, I'm a big Pirates guy.
- 34:30Let's talk, let's talk. Kyle Tucker, another name is
- 34:34that's floating out there that we've alluded to.
- 34:37Seems as though the Mets have been the latest team to make
- 34:43some noise there. They have offered a short term
- 34:45deal worth about 50 million per year.
- 34:53I think I said it yesterday when this news broke or I think, I
- 34:56think I said this whenever the news broke.
- 34:59There's been aggressive and overpaying for a guy that has
- 35:05multiple suitors that you need to get.
- 35:08And then there's being stupid, and this is being stupid. 50
- 35:15million, I don't care how many years, one years, two years,
- 35:18three years, $50 million for Kyle Tucker.
- 35:22I feel like they came in and just completely ruined the
- 35:24market because we've we've heard about the possibility of a
- 35:28shorter term, higher AAV deal. And then it's like, what is
- 35:32this? No one's going to do this.
- 35:34No one else is going to do this. This is a full on desperation
- 35:37move and it's reckless. It's dumb.
- 35:40You have plenty of other holes that you need to plug and you
- 35:42didn't. And let's let's put another
- 35:47lefty behind Soto who plays the same position.
- 35:50Yeah, you can move in the left, but it's like a strange, strange
- 35:55activity. And you threw a number out there
- 35:58that I don't think anyone else is going to mess with.
- 36:02So I could see it happening. I can see him being a MET.
- 36:09I mean, it's not like they, I don't know, it's it's not as if
- 36:14the Mets have to blow it up. And it's not that.
- 36:18I'm not saying that that's what they've done to this point.
- 36:20But like you said, there are holes that still exist.
- 36:25And I just don't know if if throwing a stupid, simply stupid
- 36:31amount of money at Kyle Tucker is going to fix what is really a
- 36:36a bigger issue of having multiple, let's just call it
- 36:42weak spots around the diamond. Big time, big time weak.
- 36:48Not to mention you have no pitching.
- 36:52You get the sense that they feel they have to do it to convince
- 36:56somebody to get in there. I mean, do they feel like I
- 37:00mean. I'm just they think of the.
- 37:04Think of the Alonzo stuff. Do people not want to be there?
- 37:10It's weird because it's like, why not spend a little bit of
- 37:14that money that you're now offering towards Pete, who's
- 37:16proven in your market, who's a stat leader amongst your
- 37:23franchise and who's right-handed and who plays first base.
- 37:29It's like I that makes more sense.
- 37:32I don't, I don't know. I don't understand the break up
- 37:35there to then pivot towards something that doesn't make
- 37:41sense as far as roster configuration.
- 37:46Odd typical mats. I don't, I don't know.
- 37:50I don't know what other thing to say about them anymore.
- 37:54I think there's plenty of pictures out there you could
- 37:55have snagged by now, by the way. I think this is what we wanted
- 37:59when Steve Cohen came to town. I think we said, all right,
- 38:04finally we've got an owner that's just going to come in and
- 38:06just throw stupid money at the team, see what sticks, and then
- 38:12just roll out as as strong of a team of superstars as as he can.
- 38:16And he, he, he got there like not even really to the level of
- 38:21the Dodgers, but he got the team to a point where it's like this
- 38:25team has to do something they didn't.
- 38:29And I just, I just wonder if if they've learned to adjust yet or
- 38:33if it's still the philosophy that, well, let's just throw
- 38:35money at, at whoever it is that we want or if we have to pivot,
- 38:39we'll, we'll, we'll double down. They're pushing their chips in
- 38:44the middle of the table at awkward times.
- 38:48It's just doesn't, it doesn't make sense.
- 38:51Like you're doing it at weird times and you're not doing it in
- 38:54a coordinated way. I get it.
- 38:58If you're like, you know what, let's bring Pete back.
- 39:01Let's go get Framber Ranger before Ranger signed and then
- 39:07let's go make a trade. And like all the sudden you just
- 39:10had like a semi intelligent pushing of chips in the middle
- 39:16of the table in the same offseason.
- 39:19And now you're just doing like one big, I'm going all in every
- 39:23offseason and it's aimless and it is slowly building what
- 39:31you're trying to build instead of just like making strategic
- 39:34moves. Does that make sense?
- 39:38Yeah, you know, it doesn't make sense.
- 39:45The Tigers countering in this Terex Google arbitration at $19
- 39:50million. Look, I've, I've really spent
- 39:57the last few days trying to wrap my head around the, the, the
- 40:01reality. What is reality?
- 40:04That the Tigers will have to sit in the same room as the
- 40:10back-to-back Cy Young winner in Terek Schuble and explain why
- 40:20he's not worth the money that he's requesting?
- 40:28And I haven't made sense of it yet.
- 40:30Yeah, I don't know. I.
- 40:34Don't know? Talk about what burn?
- 40:35A bridge like in the middle of it being built.
- 40:39I've heard our guy, our guy Dallas friend of the pod he was
- 40:43talking about or he I think he was involved in a conversation.
- 40:48I don't know if he necessarily took the stance, but I, I heard
- 40:50him in a conversation talking about how this is the Tigers
- 40:55trying to preserve the, the arbitration process and not not
- 41:00necessarily just blowing it up over one player.
- 41:03Because once you set, once you sort of open up this box, you
- 41:08can't put it back. Because really what the
- 41:11ultimately what they're trying to do is they're trying to top
- 41:13Soto's 31 million record for arbitration by going 32.
- 41:18It's just what they, they, they came in with.
- 41:22And the Tigers, like I said, countered at 19,000,000.
- 41:28I just don't know if this is the guy that I'm, I'm trying to, you
- 41:34know. Countering at 19 is like a this
- 41:38a decision you made a decision to be $12 million off, a
- 41:44decision was certainly made. You didn't counter at 25, you
- 41:49encounter at 27. You countered at 19.
- 41:55He's as good as gone for the. Record.
- 41:56I'm not sure that that's. How that works?
- 41:58Don't say that. What I I don't think, I think
- 42:03that each each the club and the players submit their submit
- 42:07their numbers. Blindly.
- 42:09Yeah, I don't think that it's it's a counter.
- 42:11It's. Yeah, but there's we.
- 42:13Can't come to terms. I'm submitting a number, you're
- 42:15submitting a number. They still can settle.
- 42:18I think there's. A.
- 42:19There's a conversation before those are submitted though,
- 42:22right? Sure.
- 42:23And and they could disclose what they're going to say.
- 42:26Yeah. But for the Tigers, just to play
- 42:29devil's advocate and then you guys, you know, I'll let you
- 42:31cook here. But it it that's still a a
- 42:34record arbitration number for a pitcher.
- 42:36Soto had a fourth year of arbitration.
- 42:38This is only Scuba's third. It's still the second largest
- 42:43increase like Rays in arbitration.
- 42:45Degrom got 9 something million of a of an increase.
- 42:49This is 8.85. So like the Tigers are still
- 42:53doing like a lot in this as far as what they could defend.
- 43:00But it's, you know, like I said, you when you get that fourth
- 43:04year of arbitration, you, you can push it farther than that.
- 43:07Soto's third year of arbitration was 17,000,000, so this would be
- 43:11even higher than that if you consider third year I I don't
- 43:15know that this is an easy decision for for an arbiter to
- 43:17make because of those sort of things.
- 43:21Yeah. But what's funny is that, like,
- 43:22the keyword you said was defend. And it's the fact that, like,
- 43:25for those who don't know, this is actually done in court and
- 43:29there's actual lawyers. And you're talking about a
- 43:32Tiger's lawyer who's needing to argue against Terek School
- 43:38putting up back-to-back cycles. He's going to have to bring up
- 43:40three years ago. Good luck.
- 43:42Yeah. Like you have nothing.
- 43:43You have no material here. I don't know what you're going
- 43:46to say. I have no idea what you're going
- 43:48to say. Dumb.
- 43:52Who's freaking out more? The Tigers.
- 43:56You know what I'm saying? Like if you want to settle who's
- 43:59freaking out more right now, if they lose, they pay out $30
- 44:03million, they're going to be more motivated to come to an
- 44:05agreement before that hearing then Scubal, who will still make
- 44:0919,000,000 and be fine. Yeah, tigers are squirming.
- 44:16It won't matter. He's not going to be there.
- 44:18Yeah, he's going to be a Dodger. Stop.
- 44:23You know who's not going to be a Dodger or probably a member of
- 44:26any other team because I think this is the end of the road.
- 44:28Max Keppler PED suspension 80 game suspension Tested positive
- 44:35for epitrembolone nailed it. He is a free agent.
- 44:47Some other some other notes here.
- 44:49Will be ineligible for the 2026 postseason regardless of if or
- 44:54when he signs coming off a year in which he hit 216 as a platoon
- 45:00outfielder. So look, if this is, you know,
- 45:06this is see ya, what exists on the on the sauce on the juice.
- 45:13I don't. I don't.
- 45:15See ya. Not particularly sure what what
- 45:19the, what teams are thinking. They're going to get off, you
- 45:21know. I don't know what to say.
- 45:31I don't. I guess, I guess, well, I won't
- 45:34say every player, but I guess players such as Max Kepler get
- 45:38to a get to a point, they make a decision, they say is this worth
- 45:44the risk? Will it even pan out?
- 45:49Will it even end up the way I'm hoping?
- 45:51Can I go further down from here? I just hit 216.
- 45:58Yeah, I just hit 216. What can I do this offseason to
- 46:02try to get back, see if I could get it out of my system before
- 46:05the spring? We've seen this happen in the
- 46:07offseason a ton. It's a shame, but it was he done
- 46:11before this too. Probably.
- 46:14Was this the last ditch effort? I mean, he maybe could have
- 46:20signed on as just like a, a depth guy, but I I wouldn't have
- 46:24counted on it. I wouldn't have put any money
- 46:26down on it, but. Yeah.
- 46:29Sucks. It's probably end of the road.
- 46:32See you dude. Twin legend.
- 46:36Speaking of, Twin legend Byron Buxton has agreed to join Team
- 46:42USA for the World Baseball Classic.
- 46:44You can also add Ernie Clement. Like, enter our faces on Dwyane
- 46:49Wade and LeBron James. Alley oop right there.
- 46:52That was completely set up for you.
- 46:57Very cool. Did that, LeBron.
- 46:59Did that. The reference hurt you a little
- 47:01bit. You don't care about basketball,
- 47:04do you? You dropped your pen, so I
- 47:05wasn't. Sure.
- 47:06Oh no, I just dropped it. No.
- 47:08Guy just likes to drop his pen. I don't know.
- 47:10If that was like a, like a. Cleveland freak out or anything?
- 47:14Nope. No.
- 47:15So anyway, Byron Buxton and Ernie Clements have agreed to
- 47:19play for team, you say. And that's, I mean that's,
- 47:23that's our, that's our bench, that's our depth, that's.
- 47:26Our bench suck at Japan. Well, let's get to the let's get
- 47:31to Miami first. We're going.
- 47:36The whole squad is there rooting them on.
- 47:39We're going. What are you talking about?
- 47:42We're going whole squad +3 right here.
- 47:47We're going to Houston, we're going to root them on.
- 47:50I said Miami. We got to get to Miami, which is
- 47:52where we would see. Japan getting, they're getting
- 47:54to Miami, no problem. I'm already past that mentally
- 47:57and past that. OK.
- 47:59Brazil, Great Britain, What are we doing?
- 48:11You see Griffin Jacks, too. Griffin, Jacks and Gabe.
- 48:16Spire. Gabe Spire.
- 48:18You know him. You love him.
- 48:19Well, did you see the Griffin Jacks thing though?
- 48:22He's actually a captain in the US Air Force Reserves.
- 48:26Who's this Griffin Jacks? I did know that.
- 48:29Well, I've couldn't. I wouldn't have told you it was
- 48:31right, but I but I knew. I knew his association.
- 48:35Yeah. I thought that was really cool.
- 48:37Yeah, that's big. That's huge.
- 48:40I like that. It's good for the clubhouse.
- 48:44Good for morale. Just an occasional pinch run.
- 48:49We don't even need him. Do we have PCA and Corbin
- 48:52Carroll? What?
- 48:53What is Byron Buxton going to do?
- 48:56He's going to play against Venezuela.
- 48:58That's what he's going to do. Brazil and Venezuela, he's going
- 49:00to get his starts there. Who are you talking about?
- 49:04Griffin Jax is the pitcher. Byron Buxton, that's.
- 49:07What I just said, Buxton. You got I'm You're all over the
- 49:09place, dude. You're talking.
- 49:11You brought him up. You said you're talking about
- 49:13like pinch run. Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 49:16Yeah, we're talking Griffin, Jax because of the the.
- 49:19The. Reserves and then you're like,
- 49:21they get a pinch run. Was Byron Buxton fair enough?
- 49:26What are we going to do? What I mean is we're loaded.
- 49:33Yeah, he'll get Indians like 5 through 9 against, yeah, Italy
- 49:37and Brazil and Great Britain probably it'll, I don't know.
- 49:42We don't have Venezuela, do we? No, no, that was that was last
- 49:462023. Look, no disrespects, but, and
- 49:54maybe I'm maybe I'm way over thinking this, are we just
- 49:58automatically granting the center field roll to PCA?
- 50:09Yeah, I mean, I know, I I know the the hype is there.
- 50:13I know the first half of last year was there, but we're also
- 50:18talking about Byron. Caution around Byron Buxton,
- 50:20Sure, and I'm not I'm. Would not be surprised if PCA
- 50:25gets 98% of the innings in. Corbin Carroll can play
- 50:29centerfield. Corbin Carroll.
- 50:31OK, so Corbin Carroll is going to be playing centerfield.
- 50:34What am I talking about? Aaron Judge is going to be in,
- 50:37right? But didn't we have?
- 50:42Was Carroll late? Why do I feel like I've seen
- 50:46mocked mock lineups with PCA in the in the lineup was was Carol
- 50:51a late ad and maybe he? I thought they joined right
- 50:55around the same time. Did he a thought?
- 51:00I don't know why I've seen PCA and and certain line UPS, but
- 51:06yeah, no, you're right. Either way.
- 51:08Either way, Buxton's on her bench, which is silly.
- 51:13Yeah, any who's. We've no holes.
- 51:16That's the that's reality. We have no holes.
- 51:21Not a one. Not one hole coming for that
- 51:27ass, Japan. All right, this this
- 51:30conversation is getting real weird.
- 51:31The holes. Yeah, No, you made.
- 51:36It weird you you made it. Weird.
- 51:38Oh, don't act like you didn't do that on purpose.
- 51:40Relax. It's.
- 51:41Time for trivia. Nope, it's time for.
- 51:50It's on here somewhere. Hit the button.
- 51:55It's time for. Murray's Question of the Week.
- 52:00Murray's question of Murray's Question of the Week.
- 52:05Murray wants to know what is our weird irrational fear?
- 52:13And Josh apparently had to look this up because I guess he's
- 52:16never heard the phrase irrational fear before.
- 52:19I. Appreciated the look up though.
- 52:21Thank you. That's fair.
- 52:23I want to make sure that I don't say something stupid.
- 52:25Sure. Yeah, Well, yeah, you did send
- 52:28us the the the Google definition of it.
- 52:32And then I was starting to second guess myself.
- 52:34I'm like, wait, do I actually even know what a an irrational
- 52:37fear is? So, yeah, and what it did was
- 52:39it, it moved it into a phobia, which made it, I was like, well,
- 52:43OK, this is easy. Bees, I'm allergic to bees.
- 52:47I'm I'm afraid of bees because I'm allergic to them.
- 52:50So I put that in and I was like, da da, da, da.
- 52:53And I'm, you know, little copilot chat.
- 52:56Copilot comes back and says if you're allergic, that's not
- 52:59irrational. Yeah, Copilot says you're an.
- 53:02Easy. I'm like, oh, copilot, thanks.
- 53:03No, I'm kidding. Totally rational.
- 53:08I like bees, no? You don't.
- 53:11Who says that What other than an apiarist?
- 53:14It's funny, it's funny. I have dumped an entire energy
- 53:17drink on Katie when I thought there was a bee in the car.
- 53:20It was a butterfly, but I threw that anyway.
- 53:26Listen, I'll keep it baseball specific here.
- 53:28I'll keep it baseball specific. Acrophobia.
- 53:31We would actually prefer that you not.
- 53:33That's all right. Fear of heights.
- 53:36It's not like I'm getting panic, panic attacks and all that
- 53:39stuff. I get nervous around heights
- 53:41looking over a a shopping mall but.
- 53:44How irrational is that? Yeah, but that's what I'm
- 53:46saying. Like these are just fears
- 53:48because that's. Yeah, but here's the thing.
- 53:51Because I would tell you that my worst fear is deep, dark water,
- 53:54but that's not irrational because you can literally die.
- 53:57Yeah, there's stuff in there. There's stuff in there you could
- 54:00get eaten, you could fall overboard.
- 54:02People, believe it or not, people have died in deep dark
- 54:05water like they're Yeah, there's proof.
- 54:08Not irrational. Not irrational.
- 54:09So I can't go to a baseball game without thinking about it.
- 54:13Foul ball, second deck. I'm thinking, gosh, I hope
- 54:17nobody falls. Oh, so when we go to the WBC in
- 54:21Houston? We couldn't just sit in row A,
- 54:24We can't sit in row A. You're going to be stand you're.
- 54:26Going to be walking around the concourse for 9 innings.
- 54:29I won't stand. I'll just be sitting there like
- 54:33I'll want to and then I'll be like it's too close.
- 54:37Nate and I are gonna sit on either side of you.
- 54:40No, we're gonna sit on either side of him and just grab him
- 54:42just randomly throughout the game.
- 54:44Just yeah. So the next thing is like, I, I
- 54:46do this right? And then I think every time,
- 54:48like nobody's falling. And then?
- 54:51Pittsburgh went. Nuts this year guy fell off the
- 54:54Clementi wall at Akershire stadium, but where the Steelers
- 54:58play 2 guys fell off things one of them was a cameraman who they
- 55:02fell off of the. That's Heinz.
- 55:04And that, yeah, you're right, it is.
- 55:06I was trying to be good about it, but it's definitely Heinz
- 55:09Feld and then. Heinz Feld yes.
- 55:13And then it's a. It's a.
- 55:14Penguins game, a guy fell off the second deck down into the
- 55:18first all this year. Maybe it's not irrational.
- 55:22Fully rational. I mean, we don't, we didn't.
- 55:25Haven't even gotten into Josh Hamilton and that story.
- 55:27I mean, I mean, sad stories all over the place.
- 55:30I don't have an answer for this. I don't.
- 55:32Really. So let's get rid of.
- 55:33Let's get rid of the. Irrational 1 maybe?
- 55:35No, no, no, no, I've got. One answer and I don't know how.
- 55:38I don't know. OK, an example of a fear it is.
- 55:40I'm going to look some up but one just came to mind.
- 55:43Because it's stupid which makes it irrational.
- 55:45It's like an irrational fear. An example of irrational fear
- 55:48would be like having a fear of falling into the toilet while
- 55:52you're going to the bathroom. That sounds that's true.
- 55:54Extremely irrational. A snake coming out of the
- 55:57toilet. That is, that's big for me.
- 56:01That's big. Yeah.
- 56:02I, I, I think of that often. You're going to pencil that one
- 56:05in? No, but it's a great.
- 56:07That's a great example and and one I've experienced personally.
- 56:11You got to peek sometimes. What do you got there?
- 56:15Guarantee you there have been snakes that have come up through
- 56:18the toilet. I, I believe it, I'll skip mine.
- 56:21I'll just clear the deck here. The only thing I could think of
- 56:26is like if I order a a chicken sandwich and I bite into it and
- 56:31it's just cold pink raw in the middle of it.
- 56:35This is so weird. This is and that's like I'm not,
- 56:38I'm I'm going to my first bite into a a chicken sandwich that I
- 56:42order is typically a smaller bite.
- 56:44Again, not an irrational fear. That's a very normal thing to be
- 56:49concerned about, given the like, potential illness that could
- 56:52come from it. That seems rather rational.
- 56:55All right, all. Right, all right.
- 56:57And irrational fear would be biting into the chicken sandwich
- 57:00and it exploding like that's, that's an irrational fear.
- 57:04So it's made-up. It's a made-up fear.
- 57:06Right. No, I would think that.
- 57:08It's called irrational for a reason.
- 57:10Yeah, I would think that every single time you bite into a
- 57:13chicken sandwich, like I'll give you that, like that does feel
- 57:16because you don't want to be like that.
- 57:19But. That's just eat a chicken
- 57:20sandwich and let it. Yeah, exactly.
- 57:22That's OCD at that point. But that's what I'm saying, like
- 57:26every time there's a foul ball, I'm thinking, please don't.
- 57:32That's where the come, That's where it becomes irrational in
- 57:34my opinion. But like not like the way that
- 57:36you look up definitions because it's like if you bust into cold
- 57:40sweats and have panic attacks for it.
- 57:42Like I'm I don't have anything like that.
- 57:48Having to give a presentation at work that you're not prepared
- 57:50for. Yeah, that's everyone.
- 57:54And I don't give presentations, but I'm.
- 57:57Yeah, but again, public speaking, it's been the data
- 58:00shows. I don't understand the
- 58:02qualifications. The data shows that people would
- 58:06rather die than public. Speaking than name 1.
- 58:09I'm dead serious. I'm not even making that up.
- 58:11That is a phobia. Right, not even making that up.
- 58:14Yes, what do you have? I honestly, I mean, I, it's,
- 58:19it's like pretty rational fear, but it, the odds of it happening
- 58:22are so small. But I I guess I could pencil in
- 58:25the snake coming up the toilet hole.
- 58:28Oh, I got one, I got one, I got one, I got 1.
- 58:30OK, what do you got? I got.
- 58:31I got one. I got one.
- 58:33Someone living in your attic and you're not knowing.
- 58:37Oh, OK. But are you just thinking of
- 58:39this or is this something that you actually?
- 58:42This is something I thought about one time because like, not
- 58:44one time. It's sometimes I'm like laying
- 58:47in bed and I hear a little crickle crackle up above me and
- 58:50I'm like. We got to ask Paige how many
- 58:53times, he said. He's up there.
- 58:55He's up there right now. She.
- 58:56Calls me, she calls me autistic 'cause she's like, you're so
- 58:59weird with sounds. She's like you hear every little
- 59:02sound everywhere. And I'm like, yeah, I
- 59:05something's living up there, are there?
- 59:07If it's a human. Are there squirrels in Chandler,
- 59:10AZ? Not a big, not a big squirrel
- 59:13population. I mean, do you have any?
- 59:16Like, have you seen a squirrel out?
- 59:18There, if anything's living up there, it's one of those like
- 59:20the what's the the not the good doves, but like the pigeon type
- 59:25doves. I think.
- 59:28I think they're just called pigeons.
- 59:30No, no, there's some. You just named two birds.
- 59:34I think you're. Talking about, but there's one
- 59:35that looks like, there's like a dove.
- 59:37There's like a dove that looks like a pigeon, but it's
- 59:39technically a dove. It's like a mourning dove.
- 59:43Sure, they're aggressive in our neighborhood.
- 59:46Rock Dove. No, that doesn't check.
- 59:49Anymore I just looked up that could be.
- 59:51That could be living in my attic.
- 59:53So if it makes me fearful a little because I'm laying there
- 59:57and you know, there's curriculum and crack.
- 59:59Yeah, he could eat you. He could fly down and eat you.
- 1:00:02And. Carry you away not.
- 1:00:03Feed you to his babies. Typically it's just something
- 1:00:06living up there that I don't know about.
- 1:00:09And I'm like, what are you doing up there?
- 1:00:13And I've never been up there. All right, never been up there.
- 1:00:17I feel like I'm the only one that's answered this question.
- 1:00:20I quite literally answered the question like 3 minutes ago.
- 1:00:23I said. I said snakes coming up the
- 1:00:25toilet hole bite me in the booty cheeks.
- 1:00:29Like that's no fun. The.
- 1:00:32I'm sure that I'm sure that'll get clipped.
- 1:00:38That's fun. I would call that irrational
- 1:00:40just for the fact that like, I've never thought of that which
- 1:00:43you may have just ruined my life.
- 1:00:45I've laid some snakes in the toilet before.
- 1:00:47But OK, all right, let's move on to trivia.
- 1:00:51Let's move on to trivia. Let's let's do trivia.
- 1:00:54Can we salvage this at all? Let's let's, let's talk.
- 1:00:59Train is off the tracks JB. All right, well let's get it
- 1:01:03back on. We talked Bregman Arenado, Beau
- 1:01:07Bichette could be moving to 3rd. A lot of third base talk.
- 1:01:11So trivia, there are 29 players who have played at least 150
- 1:01:18games at third base over the last three years, with an OPS of
- 1:01:22725. Nolan Arenado ranks #18 on that
- 1:01:26list. Name the other 24.
- 1:01:29Can you name the top 10 again? Just to reset here?
- 1:01:32OPS top ten last three seasons players with at least 150 games
- 1:01:38at third base. Bonus points if you tell me
- 1:01:42who's the only guy on this list with 100 home runs.
- 1:01:46On this list, Manny Machado. Manny Machado #8.
- 1:01:50Jose Ramirez. Jose Ramirez #2 where?
- 1:01:54Where's Aronado on this list? #18.
- 1:01:57And you're asking for the top 10.
- 1:01:59You're just asking for the top ten.
- 1:02:00We don't want to go crazy. Sure.
- 1:02:02How you said how many total did you say 24 or 29?
- 1:02:06There are 29 total players who have played 150 games over the
- 1:02:11last three years. Not in each of the last three
- 1:02:13years. Literally over the last three
- 1:02:15years. Rafael Devers.
- 1:02:18Rafael Devers, number 1856, Yes. Seems like a perfect guy you'd
- 1:02:22want to ship out. Did you big time?
- 1:02:25Did you say we there's a bonus for over 100 home runs?
- 1:02:31What did you? There's only one of them.
- 1:02:32There's only one. We haven't named him yet.
- 1:02:34We haven't named him yet. Hang on, oh, Geno Suarez.
- 1:02:39He is number 9. He is number 9.
- 1:02:42Are you answering the hundred home run question too?
- 1:02:47I didn't know if you were, if you were going straight with the
- 1:02:49100 because I got to tell you whether you're right or wrong
- 1:02:51there. This is 100 over the last three
- 1:02:53combined. There's only one on this list.
- 1:03:00Were you asking for bonus points or not?
- 1:03:04Are we? Hold on.
- 1:03:06We'll put a pin in that. We'll come back to that, OK.
- 1:03:08So we're he's at 9, he's at 9:00.
- 1:03:10He's at 9:00. So you've got Machado at 88 and
- 1:03:139. Yep, 128 and 9 right now.
- 1:03:14Devers, Jose Ramirez, Manny Machado, A Eugenio Suarez.
- 1:03:24Wow, it gets kind of thin. Wait, there's there's 29 guys
- 1:03:32that fit this bill over just the last three years.
- 1:03:36The only the the fit the bill is just 150 games, 150 games at
- 1:03:42third base. Not just over the last. 9.
- 1:03:46But just over the last three years is what you're saying
- 1:03:49that? Feels like a small number of
- 1:03:51guys to me. Oh, you don't have to play 100.
- 1:03:54And 50 games at third. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:56There's anything about Devers, who's played a lot of games at
- 1:03:58first, he still had. He still got to 150 at 3rd.
- 1:04:01Too soon? Let's talk.
- 1:04:05It's fair. Let's talk.
- 1:04:07We're not a Michael Garcia. Oh no, see, that's a.
- 1:04:11I wonder if he hasn't gotten there because he's not on the
- 1:04:14list. Don't.
- 1:04:15Oh, he is on the list. No, he's #22.
- 1:04:17No, stop. Don't fluff him up, that was.
- 1:04:20I thought he wasn't on the list and so I was like, has he not
- 1:04:23played 150 at 3rd? But he is, he's #26 There you
- 1:04:28go. Number six.
- 1:04:29Some of these aren't as hard as you as you think.
- 1:04:32Yeah, So what do we got now? So you have 1268 and 9.
- 1:04:38You have Suarez, Machado, Bregman, Ramirez.
- 1:04:40Nevers and the threshold is OPS of eight.
- 1:04:44It's just the top ten in OPS. Oh.
- 1:04:46Just top 10. Yeah #10 has a 773 OPS.
- 1:04:55So we're just we're, you know, we're looking for that or better
- 1:04:58and endeavors was number one with 857.
- 1:05:00The thing is, is just think of third baseman.
- 1:05:02What was Machado? He was or no?
- 1:05:05Who was 9? Suarez 775.
- 1:05:09Machado 75 or 6, we're in that mid sevens.
- 1:05:13Was Machado? Was Machado 8 or 6?
- 1:05:16Machado was 87926, WAS Bregman 796.
- 1:05:20We're in the mid sevens, we can't think of anything crazy
- 1:05:23here. I can tell you top five, yeah,
- 1:05:25top five is is 800 and better. See what's making me wonder?
- 1:05:31I have a name but I'm not sure about the OPS.
- 1:05:34Matt Chapman, yeah. Matt Chapman is number 10 on the
- 1:05:37list. What's that, OPS?
- 1:05:41It's a 773. That's higher than I would have
- 1:05:44guessed. 101 double SA 101 double S for him only only three
- 1:05:49guys here that that got to 100 double S Devers with a one O 1
- 1:05:52as well and Jose Ramirez with one O 9.
- 1:05:57Tell me if Royce Lewis is on the list.
- 1:06:02Royce Lewis. Is.
- 1:06:03Number. 13 he's #13 yeah. He's better than been better
- 1:06:08than what, 22nd? For Michael, Michael Garcia is a
- 1:06:12stud. No disrespect.
- 1:06:14It's it's the last three years for Michael Garcia that that
- 1:06:17kind of threw it off right. The OPS 800 this year, but the
- 1:06:20last two years before that was 681 and 614.
- 1:06:23So what are we trying to? What do we have left position
- 1:06:26wise? I know, I keep asking.
- 1:06:27So you have #3 #4 #5 #7 left. 3457. 345.
- 1:06:35All right, what are we missing here, dude?
- 1:06:37We're missing some. Some.
- 1:06:39Yeah, you're missing some names. At least a couple names.
- 1:06:42I I would say 2 names. I just.
- 1:06:43Want, I want people to know and because I keep getting this on
- 1:06:47some of the clips I posted on social, they think like, how
- 1:06:50could you forget this, this name, this team that, that
- 1:06:53person, that this person. It's so much harder when you're
- 1:06:57on the spot. I trust me.
- 1:07:01And I have confidence in telling you that you can get them.
- 1:07:03I'm looking at the names. It's easy for me to say.
- 1:07:06Exactly. I feel like Austin Riley
- 1:07:08doesn't. Mean, there you go #5 He's
- 1:07:11saying he's number 580-4804. Wow, no disrespect guy. 72
- 1:07:20homers. I shouldn't tell you that
- 1:07:21because that would ruin Austin Riley for the 100 homers, but 78
- 1:07:25double s. Esock Perettis.
- 1:07:28Hey #7 that was actually one the one that I thought might have
- 1:07:31been the hardest 1793. That's a pull guy.
- 1:07:35How? About that.
- 1:07:37So you're just. Missing 3 and 4.
- 1:07:41Three and four, all right, yeah. Four's four's the tougher one.
- 1:07:44This. Is 8.
- 1:07:44This is 800 and above OPS wise. #4 has an 812 OPS #3 has an 830
- 1:07:52OPS and I can give you age ranges if we want to get this
- 1:07:55thing going #3 has done this between age 32 and 34 #4 between
- 1:08:01the ages 19 to 21 and the and the 150 games are, I mean, most
- 1:08:17everything is pretty weighted to 2025, like the 2023.
- 1:08:23He played seven games, Jordan, just to let you know, no.
- 1:08:28No, I did think Baltimore, but I was like, no.
- 1:08:32Yeah, Westbrook, I don't think has gotten to, he has not gotten
- 1:08:35to 150 at third base because he's he's moved around.
- 1:08:39A lot of second, yeah. Although I think he's, I think
- 1:08:44he falls when I did this in a couple other ways.
- 1:08:47I think he falls just out of the top.
- 1:08:48It's high OPS though, Max Muncie's got to have a pretty
- 1:08:51decent. Open Max Muncie, number 3830.
- 1:08:53Nice. OK, so now we need #4.
- 1:08:55Now you need #4 and like I said, this is a. 19 to 21 year old,
- 1:08:59yeah. Seven games as a 19 year old.
- 1:09:01So like, this is a pretty fresh name here.
- 1:09:03What at third base? And I mean probably harder.
- 1:09:08I mean, I don't know. I don't want to.
- 1:09:11Now we're good. We're good on this.
- 1:09:13We're, I think we, I mean, we got, I mean, a young kid comes
- 1:09:18up 19 to 21, third base, heavily weighted to the 2025 season.
- 1:09:28Very, very heavy. What in the world am I missing?
- 1:09:33I mean. Stud Who plays third for The Who
- 1:09:41plays there for the A's? Matt Chapman.
- 1:09:44No. For the A's.
- 1:09:50Doesn't he? No.
- 1:09:51He's a that's a giant. What do I think of?
- 1:09:53That's a long time ago. Because.
- 1:09:57Jacob Wilson's a short, but who? Yeah, No, it's not.
- 1:10:00It's not, it's. Junior Junior Caminero.
- 1:10:03Is that a guess? No, don't go with.
- 1:10:06That I don't know if he got to 150.
- 1:10:07No, no. Nate, you want to trust your gut
- 1:10:12here. What did Junior Caminero post
- 1:10:14last in 2025? Last year as far as games go.
- 1:10:18Let's just think of what he did. 45 homers, 41 steals.
- 1:10:23Yeah, I mean that that OPS has got to be high.
- 1:10:25I'm going to say junior. Junior Caminero is #4 he had a
- 1:10:28846 OPS. Well done.
- 1:10:30This year. And so that's The thing is like
- 1:10:33because he was so weighted, the 6:31 and 7:24 in the two
- 1:10:37previous years don't carry much because of how many games it.
- 1:10:40Was this year. I knew it was young, it just it
- 1:10:42was crazy to. Think so?
- 1:10:43Who's got the hundred home runs for the bonus points?
- 1:10:46Is this of the top ten like is of the?
- 1:10:48Top well of the whole list, there's only one guy that's hit
- 1:10:50a hundred home runs. It's got to be Gino.
- 1:10:54Right. It's Gino.
- 1:10:55One O one. Wow.
- 1:10:57Yeah, Bear. You guys killed it.
- 1:10:59Let's. Go.
- 1:11:00Well done. Good for us.
- 1:11:02Good for us. I was real proud of my East side
- 1:11:04parades. Paul, that was.
- 1:11:07Jake Berger, Alec Baum, 11 and 12.
- 1:11:10Jake Berger. I would not have guessed Jake
- 1:11:11Berger. I could have, I could have seen.
- 1:11:13I could have seen Baum. But then again, you're, you're,
- 1:11:16you're dipping into what the mid sevens at that point.
- 1:11:19Yeah, seven in the seven 60s there, yeah.
- 1:11:21Yeah. So, OK, not not too surprising.
- 1:11:24And The thing is, like Jake Berger didn't show up on this
- 1:11:26when I was doing it a couple different ways. 60% of their
- 1:11:29games at third base, he doesn't fall into that category, right?
- 1:11:32But when I just did 150 games, he popped in the top 10, didn't
- 1:11:35change. I tried it four different ways.
- 1:11:37The top ten never changed, so. Hey, let's let's clap it up for
- 1:11:42Josh. Let's clap it up for Josh.
- 1:11:45This guy just continues to post. Good trivia, well done across
- 1:11:50the board. I think we all did well.
- 1:11:52You guys killed it. Way, way to end it.
- 1:11:55All right, let's get out of here.
