- 0:02[SPEAKER_00]: Hi folks, welcome to the episode of Film Study.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_00]: This is Ken McEusik here with my post game reaction after that wonderful win over the Falcons on Sunday night football, coming to you from late late at night here's a little after 1 a.m. but I don't know about you.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_00]: I'm pretty wired up after a game like that.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_00]: The Ravens escape with the all over time when Atlanta, they, they, they, they, they,
- 0:23[SPEAKER_00]: fairly well-dominated the offensive play for large portions of this game.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_00]: One snap count 70, what a 64.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_00]: Despite a significant stretch, I'll get that a little later, straddling Q3 and Q4, where they had no ability to stay on the field.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: Atlanta was just moving the ball quickly down the field.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: Kyle Hamilton returns home for one of the biggest plays of his career to seal the game in overtime with that interception.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_00]: The Ravens knock out panics on a play where they got the ball back lead in cue for critically important play in this game and Michael Panics had been the heart to soul of this offense for the Falcons who we've seen him take treatment on the sideline.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: The Ravens already had had treated him reasonably rudely through the rest of the game relative to
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: what the last two weeks had looked like for him.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_00]: But they really stopped too effectively thereafter ending with that Hamilton pick.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_00]: Tyler Huntley provided late game of Rolex.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_00]: He had a difficult game for 57 minutes and then he stepped right out of the phone booth for two of the sweetest drives you'll ever see.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: And that was really a lot of the story of this game.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_00]: Costley turned over early by Mark Andrews, but had a very bearable five penalties for 40 yards in the game.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: part of their game was improved and we thought with Huntley playing quarterback against this very hot Atlanta team, the ravens would have to play a nearly perfect game and I think we'd say that they did come fairly close to that.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: They obviously had won very big turnover but other than that, the penalty situation certainly much improved.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: The injury is still a big story in this game, Lamar Jackson on the sideline, very engaged in the game, Cam Jurgenz is expected to play next week, at least that's the way they're talking about it.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_00]: Now, don't know about Lamar, certainly a very hopeful Voorhees was ruled out right before game time, and of course, Trey Hendrickson didn't play so the Ravens without a significant amount of talent for this game were fortunate to go into Atlanta and win this football game against a very hot Falcons team.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_00]: Kyle Hamilton, Roger Rosengarten, where in-game scares, Rosengarten appeared to take a fairly hard shot to his lower leg, but return to the game.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: Kyle Hamilton had to go to the tent.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: I presume that was with a concussion protocol.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: He laid face down on the field for a moment.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure if you were probably as scared as I was about there to have.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_00]: Travis Jones left the game and did not return and he was down.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_00]: He did walk to the sideline under his own power, but but obviously a scary moment in Travis Jones a player they could ill advise to lose, ill afford to lose.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: The near-goat of this game was Mark Andrews, no doubt about it.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_00]: He had an absolutely awful game.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_00]: One of the worst of his entire career.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: We looked back at some playoff games with not fond memories.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_00]: The game had buffalo in 2024 and whatnot.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_00]: But this game was terrible.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: He dropped a touchdown, the very first drive of the game ended up costing the Ravens four points.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_00]: That was on third down.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_00]: They decided to kick the field goal there.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: We talked about that management decision a little bit on the game management show.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_00]: I might want to take a listen to that a little bit later today.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: then he fumbled and that was on a play that looked like would have been a first down and then it was returned for six after it was scooped up by longtime Ravens Nemesis Jesse Bates and then that put the Ravens in a 73 hole that was almost inexplicable that they were there after they dominated the game for a couple of defensive series plus their own march down the field the first time around.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_00]: Andrews would later drop a two-point conversion to leave the score 17 to 15.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: Now, drop is probably the wrong term.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_00]: It was punched out by Jesse Bates again, a very good play.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_00]: Then he was unable to catch a first down at Q4 635.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: That was a little bit of a tough play, but Xavier Watts got his hand in between his and was able to punch the ball out before he could secure it for a first down there that would have been a very big deal.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: That play, by the way.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: look like that might have cost the Ravens the game and their chance at the game again was 635 to play.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: They punted back the Falcons and we're very fortunate to eventually stop them.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_00]: But it was over a stretch of the straddling that third and fourth quarter, where the Falcons really dominated the action and they ran 26 of 29 offensive snaps in that period 16 on the drive
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: You know, PD, Watts PD versus Andrews, and then another 10-point drive after that, where Ravens were very fortunate to stop them at the end of that on 32 and get the ball back.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: And that's when we saw the transformation of Tyler Huntley, which I'll talk about a little bit when we get back.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: All right, Fricks, we're back.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_00]: We want to talk about how Superman came out of the closet, and we were there to see it, and that's what happened to Tyler Huntley.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: let's talk about this is the tale of two games that it really was that look a complete lack of field awareness was was present in a lot of his play um he did end up the very nice completion down the left side line to a belief he had to fly worse we had to escape the pocket left but largely he was running around without knowing exactly or having a good idea of where he was supposed to be running
- 5:37[SPEAKER_00]: It led to some bad decision-making on some runs on some scrambles not following his blocks well But he also got himself into trouble and kept himself in trouble a lot of times rather than getting rid of the football Then up being sack four times on the game Miraculously that same player Comes out with what how much time is left in the game less than three minutes to play We'll give it the exact time no, because we want to have these things with two minutes and thirty-one seconds to play
- 6:06[SPEAKER_00]: and leads the Ravens on a one minute and 51 second touchdown drive over the course of six plays.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_00]: Still managed during that time to bleed a good amount of clock, which was an important consideration because had they converted the two, which they ended up doing.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't want to leave the Falcons a lot of time remaining.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: The TD pass was thrown to Walker, a matter of seeing the defensive
- 6:33[SPEAKER_00]: and Walker did an outstanding job of adjusting to the football as one of the biggest plays of his career.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_00]: It is a play that a quarterback should be able to see, read, and throw.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_00]: And most of the time, if the cornerback does get his head around on that situation, the best he's able to be able to do is a past offense.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_00]: But in this case, Walker was able to read the ball all the way through the flailing arm of the defender and secure the football.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: great play by Walker and not his usual route by any stretch as you know if you've listened to this show a lot is a vertical guy and not really a guy who makes a lot of those kind of plays.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: Last two drives, the Ravens converted 12 first downs, six in in the last drive, a regular
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have that right it can't but they had several in the last they'd five in the end of regulation and they had another six in over time.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: So because that's 11 for the game.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: They were 24 of 32 of their first stands were followed by a first out of touchdown.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: I might take out the end of half field goal because it looked like the ravens were trying for three.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_00]: I thought very foolishly so if you believe that that would, you know, that shouldn't be counted that way and that was 25 out of 32.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_00]: good, but not great.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's certainly not Lamar Jackson great and doesn't represent an overall fantastic performance by Huntley.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: Huntley was just clutch enough in this one.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_00]: And certainly, I think this season, this off season, when we heard he was being resigned, this is the player we hoped we'd be getting again.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: Raise round the ball effectively in the first half and then again in overtime primarily on that first drive of the game is when they really ran the ball effectively Henry extremely effective during the during the scripted plays and I thought the the one of the big
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: shout out, see you to go to Declan Doyle for generating a lot of really good scheme to plays.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, uh, scripted plays that were very effective.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: Once those ran out after the first 20 or so plays, um, then,
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: the Ravens were certainly much less effective in the middle part of the game early up until 230 left to the fourth quarter when they kicked it into gear again, they did have a touchdown to start in the first drive of the third quarter to cut the lead to 1715 but in effect of the next two drives where they gained a total of
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: five yards between them and, you know, it was on that final drive that they really got up back together and they did a lot of the things well offensively, it was basically completing most of his passes, there were a couple of third downs that had to be converted on the last two drives combined.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: But a lot of them were just first downs that they got on the first or second down too, which was just a nice way to move down the field fairly quickly.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: We saw the Huntley
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: uh... as uh... just a falkans all of a sudden just from forgot to tackle the ball carrier and that was uh... you know went for what fifteen eighteen yards whatever it was uh... was an impressive uh... run in of its own sense well wasn't impressive is that the raven's didn't call time out after that uh... was at the end of the first half and they had a chance to potentially score touch them but they didn't uh... they didn't try and call time out at that point in love thirty-two seconds to run off the clock on that successful third one cuby sneak when they had three time out so to me that was that was fairly unforgivable
- 9:53[SPEAKER_00]: Um, uh, we saw Henry returned to effectiveness in over time.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_00]: Certainly, uh, they ran the ball well.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: The offensive line pushed well from behind the play.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: I love it when I see that for Raven's team.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_00]: It seems like that gets done to the Raven's affair amount.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_00]: But, but in this game, uh, that was very effective.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: And you know what's really special about this is the Falcons came into this game with the best run defense in the entire NFL.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_00]: They've given up only 47 yards a game.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: And the Ravens ran 34 times for 209 that's 6.1 yards per run when you exclude the one meal by Huntley.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: They had the meal to set up the field goal position right at the end of the half, but other than that, it's 34 for 209, which is a fantastic game, and actually very similar to Henry's rushing total against Green Bay last year.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_00]: They ran for Moore as a team, but Henry was 36 for 216 in that game, so extremely similar.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_00]: Take a look at the receivers briefly.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_00]: Rashad Bateman is quietly having an excellent season.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_00]: He had another six targets for 62.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_00]: And this one definitely has a very big place, including one that got him right down to the near the goal line on the drive at the end of regulation.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: Six or 62 anyways, terrific, he's averaging almost 11 yards or might still be over 11 yards per target.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_00]: So for the season, which would be the all-time record for a Ravens receiver, and this was a fairly high volume game for him, obviously, with six targets, flowers.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_00]: Had nine targets in this game, but he had his production kind of huntly eyes with a bunch of short throws.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: He has just not the same dangerous, deep over receiver that, you know, level two, level three,
- 11:34[SPEAKER_00]: Stick his right foot or his left foot in the turf and take a turn that nobody can follow.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_00]: Lamar can do that with him, but Huntley just doesn't have the internal clock and the pocket awareness and needs the ball scheme out too quickly for that to work.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: The Ravens, in fact, never once in his game tried to throw over the defense, walker,
- 11:56[SPEAKER_00]: Flowers, they had options in terms of players, they could have tried to take a chance of the safeties on the back end for Atlanta in Bates and Watts are both ball hocks there, a little bit scary in that regard, but the raves never really tried to keep them honest by throwing over the top.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: And some of that may have been a two high show, they were showing them for a lot of the game, but they played some single man in a post as well.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_00]: And I thought there were opportunities to do it.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: Two catches, if you think for 23 yards or they're about just see a two for 26.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: So nothing wrong with that at all.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_00]: I'm putting a big 17 yard play where he drags and people down the right sideline.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: You wouldn't have noticed it, probably even Nick Vanette came in and played a few snaps.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: He might have played as many as about 20 snaps.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_00]: The game is used as a blocking tight end.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: He becomes the second.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_00]: ties for the record for the most teams played with.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: If the information I've got from Alex Kazura is correct, tying Tilly Vass who was a player from the early 1920s in the early days of the NFL who also played for I believe it is ten teams now for Penet.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: Josh Johnson, if you're wondering, is played in four different leagues, but he hasn't played for ten NFL teams yet.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_00]: The defense let's talk a little bit about that.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_00]: There's not a lot to say about this Appreciate seemed okay.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_00]: I have not scored it yet.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_00]: Certainly my green Namdi got a PK Kalius Campbell each had some events Trent and Simpson had a nice containment of a scramble for an S-0 By the way, that's something the Ravens I thought did
- 13:28[SPEAKER_00]: quite well in this game is they did a good job of containing the scrambles from pennicks and he was not able to do much with his legs in the game.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_00]: What they couldn't stop is Drake London and it didn't matter what they tried to do.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_00]: They did certainly try to shadow him with wiggins as I suggested they might.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: Another possibility you might have win play your fixed sides but always put a safety on that side.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_00]: It looked like they were following him to the slot with Wiggins that they didn't follow him 100% of the time.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't necessarily follow him to the other side of the field.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm glad to say that they didn't put him in a position where Rivers was trying to defend him very often, because that's the wrong matchup, of course.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_00]: And that said, London had a frustrating set of conversions for the Ravens when they're desperately trying
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: that, you know, eventually were able to do.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_00]: The Ravens allowed nine of 17 conversions on third down for the game.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_00]: They denied the first three, then the, you know, obviously the remainder of the game, they converted nine out of 14, which is like you're going to frustrate a lot of people and create a lot of swear words, toss it your TV, so I forgive you if you did that anyway.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_00]: But they converted their long, they're four longest third-downs of the game.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_00]: 30, 11, 10, 10, 13, 15, 13, 10.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_00]: I don't believe they had a single one that was as long that they failed, which is just, that's bizarre.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_00]: And it's not the kind of thing you ever expect to see, but normally it's obviously just the opposite of that.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_00]: Chandler Rivers has not been getting it done in the dime.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_00]: It would not shock me if we see either.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: Humphrey or Martin back in the dime fairly soon.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_00]: It has not worked with Chandler Rivers and he had another a really tough game in this one.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_00]: There's nice to see him trying to leap to see if he could intercept the pass from to it, the end of regulation on that right sideline, but he had another kind of a tough game targeted three times in this one for about 75 yards.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_00]: On special teams, we saw loop be perfect from 21, 51 and 51.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think too many people are talking about a tie that loops to replace men or needing to bring back.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_00]: Whoever that guy was, they brought in, Kyle Moody, I think it was to compete with him.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_00]: The Falcons on the other hand, consistently, had issues with starting field position due to special teams penalties.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_00]: And that really played into the Raven's hands.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_00]: That's one of the reasons why
- 15:51[SPEAKER_00]: you want to kick off and have them return it is the chance of a penalty on the return team is much much higher than it is on the on the team that's covering the kick and you also a chance to get a turnover on the play as well.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_00]: So I think the Ravens did a fairly good job with that and certainly did a good job at the end of regulation with 40 seconds left after they'd screw the touchdown forcing the return on the kick and being able to stop it.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_00]: Unfortunately,
- 16:20[SPEAKER_00]: two, it did have a big completion there and put a little bit of fear in us, but the Ravens got it to overtime, they won the toss, they drove down the field, they scored a touchdown and they stopped two on, I believe it was two plays, the second play Hamilton intercepted and the game is over.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_00]: I'll have much more in the offense, defense and a show is the next two nights and take a look for the game management discussion with Spencer Peterson this is a fairly well coach game again for the ravens one of the one of the things we pointed to was a nine men on the field on the punt was not a good thing but other than that I'd say the
- 16:57[SPEAKER_00]: decision-wise, there's no dramatically bad decision in this game.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_00]: I thought actually both teams probably did a fairly good job with their choices in this game to spoil the episode, but there's some interesting discussion about, see fourth and two on that first drive and what why it might have been the right play, but we don't necessarily feel extremely strongly about that.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_00]: Um, film study, mailbag at gmail.com is where you, I'd like you to send your questions.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_00]: If you have questions in particular about the, uh, game that's just been played, I probably cannot get to them.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_00]: I did see somebody had said something to Twitter when he knew about long through down, so we said try to look at that one, but I can't, uh, I can't promise I'll get to there, but ask them for the offensive or defensive show.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: I'll be certain to answer them there and moreiness is taking good care of that, uh, address.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_00]: As always, thanks for listening again, and we'll talk to you next time on Film City.
