- 0:42Welcome back to hamster with a blunt.
- 0:44Penknife a doctor who commentary podcast.
- 0:47I am Dylan, and I'm joined by the regular host Joe.
- 0:52Hello. Hey, hello, how are we're back
- 0:55again, very pleased to be here. Thank you for inviting me on.
- 0:58Oh yeah, thanks for coming on your own podcast.
- 1:00It's really nice to have you. How was your Christmas or
- 1:04Christmas? You know, it was a lot of
- 1:06eating, a lot of drinking, a lot of sitting down in the, in the
- 1:09It's not really doing a lot put on about forty, five Stones.
- 1:13You know, you can't go up the stairs anymore, but apart from
- 1:15that, fine, do you die every January?
- 1:17Like me? I dieted January to November
- 1:21with blips in the middle and what?
- 1:24Right? One year.
- 1:25Oh, sorry. We're here to talk about dark
- 1:27invasion of Earth. Just to say any minute now.
- 1:28Well, if so far, we've had about a month-and-a-half breaks and
- 1:32stuff, just so you're all in the loop.
- 1:34Okay, right, let's just continue our conversation down to one
- 1:38year, right? Man, I was burned by Doctor Who
- 1:40at Christmas because the one thing I would, but I can't bear.
- 1:43I don't collect any Doctor Who figures, right?
- 1:45I'll never touch that part of merchandise.
- 1:49Honestly, that show came back to knit.
- 1:51They had a figure of, absolutely everybody.
- 1:53I'll grab Grandma Donnelly from the idiots Lantern.
- 1:57Well, everything I opened up was a doctor who figure of one kind
- 2:02or another. They all thought I was gonna
- 2:03beat alive. I'm surrounded by all these
- 2:06ghoulish figures. Hell, am I gonna do with it?
- 2:09You know, I had a similar thing when Doctor Who came back
- 2:13whenever it was Christmas or my birthday, people who buy me any
- 2:16old shit with a logo on it, which is fine.
- 2:19And I just used to put it in a box under my bed and then
- 2:22eventually, I got to a point. I've got I've got boxes at this
- 2:24stuff. I could, I don't need it.
- 2:27I'm just going to take it to the charity shop.
- 2:28Took it to the charity sharp, left it, there felt relieved.
- 2:31It was, you know, Doctor Who Adventures of Dalek cookie
- 2:34cutters and things like that, and destroyed Cassandra and
- 2:37stuff like that. But got that was The work
- 2:40anyway. So I took it to the shop then a
- 2:44few days later, my girlfriend at the time says, why don't you
- 2:47come over? I've got a present for you.
- 2:49That's a kind of really what? And I went round that you've
- 2:52gone past a charity shop. So there's a reason you've got
- 3:02the stuff under the bed All day long of a break it out that fry,
- 3:13you, and it's okay. And it's a character from book
- 3:15to, that's genius. Well, since we did the first
- 3:20half of this offer seat, the Blu-ray of seats him.
- 3:24I've got to say, they polish up pretty well.
- 3:27They do, they do? I've kind of found a newfound
- 3:30respect when I went in for an episode for which were about to
- 3:33do the moment of just like how sparkling a wonderful it looks.
- 3:36I may have even reappraise Richard Martin.
- 3:39As the greatest Doctor Who director of all time or not,
- 3:42that is a hell of an epitome of what you said, in episode one,
- 3:45two, three. She don't, you know what?
- 3:47We were small caveat. We are, we have had about a
- 3:51six-week break since recording episodes 13.
- 3:56And we may repeat, occasionally, what I've heard.
- 4:00I've heard about what we said in the first half of this.
- 4:03Exactly. So you're going to just tell me
- 4:04to shut up. If I start saying something I've
- 4:06said before, never be so rude. Honestly, But man, that was a
- 4:13fantastic set by the Yeah, the extra just getting better and
- 4:17better on. Oh they're wonderful.
- 4:19I was a bit. I was a bit sad to see.
- 4:20William Russell William Russell's interview.
- 4:23I mean no, no, he's getting on a bit but, you know, it just it
- 4:26but I think I said on the last one, it might have been a hard
- 4:28watch and it definitely was a hard watch but you know, he
- 4:32seems very well I didn't get through it.
- 4:34All I have and I actually thought it was a little bit in
- 4:37bad taste putting it out because he Clearly was being prompted,
- 4:41an author there was less finding out anything I'm more Kenny
- 4:45actually have a conversation and that's where is the more I know
- 4:48prior one, I thought was brilliant.
- 4:50Really revealing, you know. Yeah, exactly.
- 4:54It's just a bit of a shame that I mean, it is getting on his.
- 4:57How old is he, 96 something like that if I'm in fine shape like
- 5:01that 96th and I'll be quite happy.
- 5:03Yeah, me too me too. But if anybody out there is
- 5:06really interested to see a visual interview with William
- 5:09Russell, I would recommend his myth makers which is a real
- 5:12good. It's, you know, him probably in
- 5:15his late fifties, early sixties and it's a real insight into his
- 5:17Doctor Who career, and his career up to that point.
- 5:19It's a lot of fun. And to quickly again, which and
- 5:25Maureen. O'Brien, one of the small gifts,
- 5:26I did get for Christmas was one of her novels does mention in
- 5:30the Taylor law can get past page, free first scene featured
- 5:36a woman getting moist down below that's how far it was.
- 6:10Yeah, let's do that as in. so in 5 4, 3 2, 1, Actually I do have
- 6:21a question for you straight away to stimulate station way to
- 6:25learn. This is the Daleks.
- 6:29Yes what was your first experience of the Daleks and did
- 6:34they like capture you straight away.
- 6:37So my very first experience of a Dalek was before I knew what
- 6:40Doctor Who was. And I this is kind of like a
- 6:44half memory that I don't know whether you remember it.
- 6:46Or I just remember my nan telling me that we went to some
- 6:49sort of A somewhere on the was a full.
- 6:52There was a life-sized are like someone in a Dalek there and I
- 6:55just ran away from it petrified. So that is my first experience
- 6:58of a Dalek and I know it was before I'd ever seen Doctor Who.
- 7:02But but the first time I ever saw them would have been I think
- 7:06it was day of the Daleks on VHS and I don't think I've ever
- 7:10found a particularly threatening in that guy's, I think when you
- 7:13get to the 80s stuff and like, Resurrection, I think I was I
- 7:16think resurrection and Remembrance.
- 7:18I probably found them a bit more.
- 7:20Sky's carries the wrong word. It was this.
- 7:23This is the only Doctor Who I remembered really being scared
- 7:26of was the heme of oars when I was a kid in the curse of fenric
- 7:29and the destroyer in Battlefield.
- 7:33But no, I don't think I ever really I don't think I've ever
- 7:35really had the Dalek fear, he always gave me most when I was a
- 7:39Nipper nurse Lamont from Terror of the zygons objects, remember
- 7:44be fucking chilled by scary eyes and that blood going down their
- 7:50own. It wasn't, the not in mid
- 7:52nineties. I bear in mind.
- 7:53You've got Star Trek being turned out X-Files all this
- 7:56really polish TV. We're awful.
- 7:58Resurrection of the Daleks revelation of the Daleks and
- 8:01remembrance of the dollars whether most exciting stylish
- 8:03and polish television because they are they absolutely are.
- 8:09And so anyway, what's occurring in dark invasion of Earth?
- 8:12Well, they're just pouring some acid onto a bomb.
- 8:15Now a little bit of trivia here when they're in the studio there
- 8:18with one version of the bomb. And now, Now that outside when
- 8:21the bombs dissolving when the pump because it's a polystyrene
- 8:24version that they just pour in some something called that makes
- 8:26the dissolve. So it's cut it.
- 8:29It's quite a complicated production, this one, but yeah.
- 8:32Obviously, the best way to stop a bomb, has to pour acid on it,
- 8:34apparently not really heard that saying, I don't think Nation,
- 8:41don't think any bomb disposal Squad will ever tell you that.
- 8:44That's the best way to get rid of it.
- 8:46You know, after said quite a bit of tactile touching guy Between
- 8:50Susan and David, as I might be. So got on here might be.
- 8:54I mean, I do think that the script and the characters just
- 8:58about sell it, although, I'm not sure how I would have felt about
- 9:02being left with my first-ever crush.
- 9:05Just in a time that I didn't know dumped on the planet.
- 9:08Yeah, yeah. May I suggest that you don't go
- 9:10read. John peels War of the Dalek.
- 9:12They hang on Legacy of the darling.
- 9:14Yeah, to see what occurred with Susan after this story.
- 9:18I vaguely remember it. Pretty terrible.
- 9:21Yeah, I don't know, big finish audio as well so after this,
- 9:25yeah, they've done once I think it's called, like, after the
- 9:27Daleks or something like that, which, you know, I'll be quite
- 9:32interested to hear if I'm sure. They've done it with a little
- 9:33bit more tact than old John peel, who never does anything
- 9:37that much tax. I don't think my, although,
- 9:41didn't he write the edge of Destruction novelization?
- 9:44You know, maybe you did. Yeah, that's nice Robinson.
- 9:47Yeah, job appeal. Master plan, right?
- 9:51And that's right. Locations in two parts.
- 9:54Yeah, one thing we did say in the first half, was how nice it
- 9:59was that each of the regulars had their own sort of
- 10:02contemporary character and story line going on.
- 10:07I think it does add a bit of pace.
- 10:08We get to go from Barbara and Jenny and David Ian.
- 10:13And I don't know the fellow at the mine.
- 10:16Just happens to be the fella from.
- 10:18Are you being served? Yeah, I mean it's Yeah exactly.
- 10:21You know I really like I think I ship journey and Barbara I think
- 10:25there's like that the anger the some real sort of sexual tension
- 10:29between them the so I'm you know it's 2021 50 or whatever.
- 10:33So Jenny's probably a very open woman while Barbara from the
- 10:3760s. Would be far too reserved for
- 10:39any of that business. We just cut away before last
- 10:42stuff happens. Yeah, exactly.
- 10:44That's what they're doing. Now, while the Ian is jumped out
- 10:47of spaceship and go back tonight, Not good enough.
- 10:52Now, this stuff here, where they're kind of cutting between
- 10:57Studio footage of a.m. and you've got a doll.
- 10:59It was just possibly got stopped on a bit of trouble there, but
- 11:02you've suddenly got all these extras being pulled Along by
- 11:06pulling along this train and stuff like that.
- 11:09It's like this is really epic stuff.
- 11:11This is the Doctor Who equivalent of Ben Hur.
- 11:14Yeah. Look how many extra you will
- 11:16never get this many extras you something, but they've got the
- 11:19camera on top of it. And like, all right, so I think
- 11:23last time I said, how white everybody was but apparently
- 11:26they did try and get kind of multi ethnicities for the extras
- 11:30and they just couldn't find anybody in the business.
- 11:33At that point parent, I want to say anything in policy but you
- 11:35know they were all slaves. So cool Shi.
- 11:37Yeah, but you're right again, Richard Martin is directing in
- 11:45the hell out of it. I'm like yeah, it looks
- 11:47fantastic. I they've got Scary old man at
- 11:51the back that looks they look like they've been worn away from
- 11:54being in this mine for a long time.
- 11:56Well, I think is well that cut between studio and location is
- 11:59less obvious. And it is, yeah, I'm Productions
- 12:02now, is this because because it's been cleaned up, or if
- 12:07we've been watching the DVD version will be.
- 12:09No, it's like, it's really like I just sitting down to watch.
- 12:14Episode 3 on the restored thing. I was like this is a much
- 12:17smoother production, but this is a lot of that.
- 12:20Duration. I don't know and they've made
- 12:22some tweaks occasionally because I won't be able to chase.
- 12:24They made some there's a scene on a radius R goes from day to
- 12:27night and they did some tweaking with the the to make it less
- 12:31obvious. That it was a lie going off for
- 12:32things like this. This stuff all the stuff we've
- 12:37just seen, which is clearly stock footage of cable, cars and
- 12:41minds and stuff like that, that nobody knows where that footage
- 12:44is from. They know it stopped footage,
- 12:45but no one's ever been able to to Source it.
- 12:48So, in theory, they could get sued for using getting at any
- 12:50point, but they weren't there. Is someone somewhere out there
- 12:53has done a montage of every bit of stock footage ever in Doctor
- 12:57Who, it'll be that that volcano from The Inferno credits going
- 13:01over space rocket that goes up every now and again like in the
- 13:05Android Invasion, as you know, things like that.
- 13:08But you know, there's a bit of context you thanks.
- 13:10Do you know those buildings the fall down in enemy of the world,
- 13:13when the use a couple of times as well, you know, no me
- 13:18neither, it helps us with this old TV, it's about what helps
- 13:23sell the story, not necessarily what is the most realistic like
- 13:27bit of footage or effect that they can get.
- 13:28So, it doesn't bother me. It's just, it's like in theater
- 13:31where you cut to a bit of stock footage and stuff like that,
- 13:33it's just selling selling the story and I think, as well, in a
- 13:37similar, Season where there are, they're trying to do some pretty
- 13:40epic stuff. The web Planet, the chase they
- 13:43may not succeed but they are trying to man Bishop stuff.
- 13:46I think sort of visually in terms of location working sets.
- 13:50This is the most successful that they do they are vast amount of
- 13:53Grants or geographically with lots of different sets and lots
- 13:57of different location work. So if you can imagine just
- 14:00looking at this episode, it's a tie they've got this tiny studio
- 14:04and we're seeing a corner of kind of a spaceship And then
- 14:10we're saying that what is the garage or the Transport Museum
- 14:13wherever it is and and then a bit of a sewer I think it is and
- 14:16then trying to make so that together with location work and
- 14:19stock footage is just like you can imagine how small that
- 14:22studio wasn't thinking, we've got room for four sets out of.
- 14:25He made this B down to enjoy or not to convince you.
- 14:28You know. It is it is throwing actors
- 14:33giving us a bit of Willie and yeah this stuff is going on.
- 14:37Yeah. Yeah, I'm sold.
- 14:39Unfortunately, like we said before, the cameras, very often
- 14:41over the action and things like that, so you got to try to
- 14:43squint to see what's going on. Yeah, but everybody here is
- 14:46selling selling it because none of them is giving a heart.
- 14:49You know, when you get to things like the space museum, perhaps a
- 14:52Galaxy for your a bit. Like some of these people are
- 14:54giving it their all and perhaps some of them are not here.
- 14:57The regular the regulars are giving it their all and yeah, I
- 15:04do get distracted sometimes when somebody I recognize from So
- 15:08vividly from an Amish is in Doctor Who unless mr.
- 15:13Rambo, LaSalle jug is from Grace, brother.
- 15:16I don't hate. The thing is even as a kid, like
- 15:20watching this, on the VHS for the first time, I was like, he's
- 15:23from something else. Like but it's when you see, like
- 15:27a comedy actor out of sorts, you do you see, William Russell and
- 15:30something else, you just go and what he was, the leading young
- 15:33man at the time, but this is like you don't belong in the
- 15:37show. Show your are you being served
- 15:40only imagine Mollie sugden turning up his Jenny you know
- 15:43the you know what these sequences though?
- 15:48In dark invasion of Earth 2150 ad with Ashton.
- 15:51The black marketeer then I ever it is Philip Maddock.
- 15:54Isn't it in the movie? It is it is, you know, I
- 15:57remember when I first saw this version, I honestly I remember
- 16:02the quality of being so bad at the video that I just thought it
- 16:04was Philip magic again and he was the only cast member they,
- 16:07They carried out. Of course, it's not as terrible
- 16:11called, think it's late. These two have a, do she Taylor
- 16:17up in Scotland, nice. I'll send him 20 quid in the
- 16:20post and the VHS would turn up with all seven episodes of
- 16:23Doctor. Who in the silurians, you know
- 16:25what, I had a few people like that.
- 16:27And over lockdown, I digitized all my old tapes, including some
- 16:32terrible terrible, like Seventh Generation Doctor, Who videos,
- 16:37and what? I didn't watch them.
- 16:38It was quite funny to skip through them and just go, like,
- 16:41you can't looks like a snowstorm.
- 16:43You can't tell what's going on in any of them.
- 16:45But can I just say right, the seams here between Barbara and
- 16:50Jenny are using the bechdel test?
- 16:54Yeah, the 60s. Now, I'm telling you now,
- 16:57there's many Hinchcliffe story in the 70s.
- 17:01Yeah, I always that miserably. Absolutely, and this look, this
- 17:05shot here of just Jenny popping out and seeing the dead Dortmund
- 17:10lying in the road. Like again, Richard Martin is
- 17:14firing on all cylinders in this episode.
- 17:16It feels like it's taken him three episodes to bed in.
- 17:19But this is the bit in the Middle where we get the
- 17:21crocodile down in the sewer. Yeah, this looks like this.
- 17:25It's really really tight. The tiniest crocodile you could
- 17:29possibly imagine. It's that stock footage.
- 17:33It was a film in That's so which I assume or stock footage, but I
- 17:37think in terms of well building that all the creatures have gone
- 17:40down into the sewers. Yeah, I mean, it's very Terry
- 17:43Nation survivors, you know, you've got plague and scavengers
- 17:47and black market Traders and creatures in the sewers, like
- 17:50you revisit these ideas later on nation is a sword and a right
- 17:54out. I think he's got a black hole
- 17:56when it comes to getting out his pen and write.
- 17:58And doctor, he does some pretty dark stuff.
- 18:00He does. He does, I think, you know, if
- 18:03you re made Add this. Now, it would be a very dark,
- 18:06dark story, and I think still think it's dark for the time,
- 18:09but I just think people, often confuse have something is
- 18:12delivered with the intention of what the original script might
- 18:16have been like, I mean, Paradise type Towers, God bless if I love
- 18:20it but you can also see a very dark version of that with
- 18:23exactly the same script and just a different director and
- 18:26different. And when you gotta put on that,
- 18:28David snail score. Yeah, I know.
- 18:31It's all at the same over dumb performers, isn't it?
- 18:33But You, you're sort of halfway there to that much darker
- 18:37version of that story solutely. And then you lower the lighting
- 18:40a little bit and it just it becomes something else.
- 18:42You watch that the first episode of survivors in the first
- 18:45episode of Blake's 7. Yeah, that's about as Bleak as
- 18:49TV, guess. Yeah, absolutely.
- 18:51It's against that, isn't it? That's sort of fatalism is 100%.
- 18:57Now, we get abs and jelly on the right now.
- 19:00This is blissful all of this stuff.
- 19:02This fantastic now. The tax disc on this vehicle.
- 19:07Listeners. I don't know whether you spotted
- 19:09this says 1965. Now we think there's a setting
- 19:11Twenty, One fifty sixty, something like that so that
- 19:15Vehicles a couple hundred years old.
- 19:17Well, it's in a museum but I'm surprised.
- 19:21It's still, I'm surprised. It's still going, this looks
- 19:24incredibly good. The the shots through the window
- 19:28of the van, going towards the Darlings, Yeah.
- 19:31In Barbara couldn't be any cooler.
- 19:33She's hot man as you just smash for a bunch of Daleks.
- 19:36Yeah, she's the full action. Hero was fantastic.
- 19:39And then and I know like to wash, you can see, always
- 19:42suddenly cuts to were in the studio and it's clearly not
- 19:45moving in this the camera. Moving to the stunt version on
- 19:48location, but in 1964. 65 64. Isn't it?
- 19:52The 64? MB of watching those tiny little
- 19:55TVs as no one would have noticed.
- 19:56It has been the most epic thing they'd ever see what it didn't.
- 20:01A little bit, you know, on that series to Blu-ray the behind the
- 20:06sofas because I thought that actually they would not making
- 20:09any allowances at all for the fact that this was being made in
- 20:12the 1960s and yeah, TVs moved on a great deal since then.
- 20:16But actually in the terms of the 1960s, this is really
- 20:19impressive. Yeah.
- 20:20It is, it is, it's I mean, it's very easy to poke fun, which we
- 20:24will and have done and as if on cue, there's a sorcerer.
- 20:30But, yeah, I do. I think you'd have to make
- 20:31allowances for it but I do find on a lot of those behind the
- 20:34sofa things. Not only did they not make an
- 20:36allowance for say 60s effects. They also don't make allowance
- 20:41for modern stuff. It's like a lot of the 80s
- 20:44actors in to be stocking like this.
- 20:46Kind of limbo of like a couple television now is weird and it
- 20:49was very funny back in the day and the 80s and 90s were the
- 20:52best time, which I'm not sure. Exactly Rings true.
- 20:55But there's sort of like, a weird sort of knowing mocking at
- 21:00it. Yeah.
- 21:01Yeah it seems a bit distasteful for me.
- 21:04Like you find people that are going to look at these
- 21:06strengths. You know I love Maureen O'Brien
- 21:08sitting there watching all laughing her head off.
- 21:10Say isn't that before you know my favorite one I think was
- 21:14probably watching Sasha 21 watch Roger Delgado which was awesome
- 21:20amazing. Yeah if you watch him power of
- 21:26the dark side he brings it down a bit while.
- 21:27Yeah, he does. He does.
- 21:30And then who are the ones? I quite enjoyed.
- 21:34Colin Baker watching season 24 as well.
- 21:36I hope that's a yes, Paradise Towers.
- 21:41Yeah, and you can say - you could see Collins, code call it.
- 21:44And is in his got all different guises, just chewing up that
- 21:49dialogue. Come on, let's get it.
- 21:51Who do you think is the most successful guest character in
- 21:55this in terms of performers? And in terms of writing, Yeah.
- 22:01I mean, I don't think it's David as much as it should be.
- 22:03I think it's probably Jenny because you've got this.
- 22:07She's a victim of Trauma from whatever's happened, a family of
- 22:10probably did. I think they might even service
- 22:11and say in the early episodes she's been through a hell of a
- 22:14lot. And I think it's delivered,
- 22:16well, it's written. Well I think, you know, she's
- 22:18fantastic. What about you?
- 22:20I think as ever Bernhard K is giving a performance above and
- 22:23beyond. What is expected of from a
- 22:26doctor who story? I think he does in colonies by
- 22:28see. That's hit the faceless ones.
- 22:30Ones he does it in the Crusade later this year and there is a
- 22:35proper sort of world weariness. Yeah.
- 22:38Is it Tyler or Wyler? Which one's Wyler?
- 22:40That's 2150. Ad isn't it?
- 22:41Yeah, this is Tyler. Tyler.
- 22:44Jenny's got our balaclava back on.
- 22:49Is that? That's because she is this your
- 22:51tire here or something or something like that.
- 22:53So I think that was that was what they said.
- 22:55It's all very hard. That's a backdrop.
- 22:58There is a. Look at that, look at that
- 23:02little post box that was in the corner.
- 23:04When the first came into shots, it's just everybody's proper
- 23:07thought about how they're going to try and make this huge story
- 23:11that's in a tiny space. Oh my god look who it is but you
- 23:17look like what a guy. Don't worry about the sliver.
- 23:22Is it? Nick Evans who plays him this
- 23:24fabulous Camp bloke. He's like on an Interview on the
- 23:27DVD goes. So yeah, I was told by Dickie
- 23:32Martin come and do a bit of work so they unveiled this Dalek
- 23:35thing and I had to play that for three episodes.
- 23:37They like I will we've got a bit of extra work for you, but they
- 23:40unveiled the sliver. Anyway, the Press who are hot on
- 23:44Doctor Who at this point because it was so popular.
- 23:46The Press tells up at his house and says, can we interview you
- 23:49about the sliver and he's like, fucking anything about the
- 23:53sliver. I liked it.
- 23:55Anyway, thought they're going to give me 50 Quid.
- 23:56Come in something he fakes the vote is bullshit about.
- 24:01The sliver and as his picture taken and everything, awful,
- 24:05I'll go on Nick Evans. Got a bit of money out.
- 24:08Amazing, you know, they Slither was conceived as a floating
- 24:12black jellyfish, which is quite what we get, but it's you know
- 24:19what? I can never work out, you know,
- 24:20they could they can hear that screaming outside, that's all
- 24:25boys. Supposed to be the Slither or is
- 24:27it supposed to be the slivers victims?
- 24:30Never quite as Richard Myers, or we're never going to know our
- 24:33way. I was a fantastic Slither or
- 24:37Slivovitz an impression that you did though.
- 24:40Yeah, there is a bizarre noise, isn't it?
- 24:46I'm sure this never has been in a big finish.
- 24:56Right, to pillage, the entirety of classic Doctor, Who, if they
- 25:03have. So we've got our black market
- 25:05Trader, not fill it matter that can.
- 25:07Fortunately, that's but this, this feels very Terry Nation as
- 25:12well. Because in survivors, there's
- 25:13lots of characters like, this are exploiting the situation,
- 25:17you know, nine-tenths of the world population are out in 87.
- 25:20You meet lots of sort of dodgy characters like this, don't you?
- 25:23Yeah, like marketeers. And if they're usually the most,
- 25:26Most interesting characters. Absolutely a bit Patrick,
- 25:30troughton plays a sort of a nice black market Trader in one of
- 25:34them. So this is why vers but he
- 25:36disappeared I think he's killed in, like, literally within the
- 25:39first 10, 15 minutes. Something like that was ashamed,
- 25:41but he's not. Ashton is not really around long
- 25:45enough to make much of an impact here in.
- 25:47We doesn't get blown up like in the other one.
- 25:49I think I better get exterminated.
- 25:52I can't remember. But it just adds another layer
- 25:55that there's not just people that are Since to the Dalek
- 25:57invasion there are some people that are exploiting it as well.
- 26:00Yeah, which is what people, which is what would happen.
- 26:03I think Terry Nation does have quite a cynical view of humanity
- 26:07and what people are like and you know, people accuse them of
- 26:10being quite a basic writer, but I don't think that's true at
- 26:13all. I think you've, I think he
- 26:15really gets characters, but he's a, he's interested in writing
- 26:18the darker side of humanity and sometimes perhaps the script
- 26:21editors of Doctor Who don't necessarily want that for kids
- 26:25Saturday teatime show, And that's where you end up with the
- 26:28keys of marinus and stuff like that, but you still have the
- 26:31keys of marinus, right? Marv laughs just downstairs,
- 26:33that's one of his favorites. There is one of my favorites
- 26:35too, but I'm not going to raise it as a work of Genius.
- 26:39Nice, indeed. In fact, you know what I like he
- 26:44once when we were talking we were doing the commentary on the
- 26:46Android Invasion and he gave her such a brilliant reading.
- 26:50As to why Terry nation was his favor because he doesn't want
- 26:53dogs who to be madly experimental thing that he Of
- 26:56sort of when the show leans into the cliches, you've got the
- 27:00companion and the doctor wandering, allocation and
- 27:02episode 1. Daleks are a view.
- 27:04That's absolute like this. That's not meat and potatoes
- 27:06dogs who that's golden Doctor, Who think?
- 27:08Yeah, absolutely. I mean, everybody's got their
- 27:11favorite, right? Are here's the tiny crocodile.
- 27:15Yeah. Like if I saw that in any where
- 27:19I was, I didn't copy, like, I'll be all right.
- 27:21I don't think. I think I'm going to get eaten
- 27:23alive. But she is hanging off a ladder,
- 27:25a great height there. So I think that's one Susan's
- 27:28got the right to be a little bit nervous.
- 27:30Yeah. Yeah.
- 27:30No. Yeah.
- 27:31For once, for once in my story, I think he would have been great
- 27:36in this one, is she? Yeah, she was like, starting
- 27:38that revolution in the space museum?
- 27:40She didn't their rally in the troops.
- 27:42She wouldn't kick that crocodile in the first run of the season,
- 27:47the like you're getting a bit too scared of it.
- 27:50She would just didn't know what I needed to shoot at the.
- 27:53I like the fact they shot at the crocodile.
- 27:54I can't imagine a crocodile being Maybe it was the sound.
- 27:58How did I scream night? Yeah.
- 28:00Running. When they ask you a question
- 28:05about your personal life, you can indeed.
- 28:07Have you any of you suddenly that out then?
- 28:10Have you ever been seduced with a wet slippery?
- 28:12Fish? I'm not a big fan but it's not
- 28:18as though. A big wet slippery.
- 28:23Fish is never quite done it for almost but you know who knows.
- 28:26What happened in the future? You know, you never know.
- 28:28Yeah, look at that. What the hell is that?
- 28:32Is that the slipper claw? I think that.
- 28:35Yeah, yes. Yes, it is.
- 28:36Yeah, it's cool. I mean, we don't know what a
- 28:39Slither call looks like cookie his penis.
- 28:40You never know. Oh, Jesus.
- 28:44So he's in for a hell of a week heading into the hills of eyes
- 28:49territory now as they're dragged off into the bushes by in
- 28:54breast. I mean, you see enough Sliver
- 28:57for it to be a truly terrible monster.
- 28:59I know. Oh, but here we go.
- 29:02I think we're seeing more of it than we've ever seen before due
- 29:04to the restoration but the way it sort of shakes and things
- 29:08like that they're trying. All right, I mean, it shaking
- 29:12hand. Reminds reminds me of my
- 29:14alcoholic Uncle. So, you know, that's all I'm
- 29:17saying. That's how he carries his glass
- 29:20of gin. Does he think his penis at you?
- 29:25He hasn't no. But But you know, you never know
- 29:28what's gonna come because you've done all the
- 29:43establishing stuff. And you saw that little bit, I
- 29:45thought that that was just doing a lot of well building and it
- 29:48had a few fun set pieces in it as well.
- 29:50Yeah, no I think I I feel like this is ramping up now.
- 29:53Like I feel like the actions getting more exciting.
- 29:56That was Right? A thrill of a Chase through
- 29:59London. We got, we got to meet, you got
- 30:02to meet a monster, like it was all very exciting.
- 30:04We didn't even notice the doctor who wasn't there and self.
- 30:08That's the first time I've realized, you know, we're at the
- 30:10end of the episode, no, Billy to be seen anywhere.
- 30:14I wonder if the Ally will wake in the next episode.
- 30:18They often do. Or should we go and watch it?
- 30:24Let's shall, let's do it. Okay?
- 30:28You have Dylan Reeves to thank for this very brief, excerpt
- 30:33from more and O'Brien's. Every step you take a John
- 30:36bright novel. Which wound is way into my home
- 30:39this year okey-dokey. So he gave her hands back to
- 30:45her, placing them carefully by her sides on the bed.
- 30:48She took a sharp breath and her questioning gaze made George
- 30:51higher still. He longed to express, his ardour
- 30:55with smooth Grace like her, but was sure she would find him
- 30:59clumsy or Worse. Ridiculous, avoiding her eyes.
- 31:03He Unwound her legs from his waist, placing her little soft
- 31:07feet. Facing a wall.
- 31:10Now placing her little soft feet side by side on the rug, he
- 31:14started to remove his clothes turning his back to her to hide
- 31:17his wildly tumescent state. To Mithun, shine has made him
- 31:23clumsier. His clothes stuck to him at last
- 31:26in just his underpants. He sat on the bed, his big hands
- 31:29between his thighs. His mother had laid out his
- 31:32pajamas on the bed. Oh dear.
- 31:35He hesitated she put them on. He dared to steal a look at Mom.
- 31:38Marge. She was standing now with her
- 31:40back to him at the other side of the bed, she was pulling down on
- 31:44the zip of her white satin dress.
- 31:46So instead he go into the bed and covered himself with the
- 31:49Daisy pattern, do they dressed only in his underpants then
- 31:54March turned to face him. She'd like the dress fall slowly
- 31:57off her shoulders, her body rows inch by inch from the descending
- 32:00cloud of white, George astounded, thought standing by
- 32:04me at the altar, she had nothing on under her long, white dress,
- 32:08Small feat stepped out of the cloud.
- 32:10She looked at him, her smile was uncertain.
- 32:13Will you like me? Am I to bold, but she walked
- 32:17proudly towards him, just the same.
- 32:20He lay still as she got into the bed and she lay beside him
- 32:23minutes past George waited, he knew that Marge to was waiting
- 32:28as she expected something of him but he was frightened, excited
- 32:31shy, fearful of causing her alarm or shame.
- 32:35She was so small too. And he was so big at last.
- 32:41Certain, she would be crushed under his weight.
- 32:43He positioned himself, awkwardly on top of her and the rest, you
- 32:47felt bags. I'll leave to your imagination.
