- 0:03Speaker 1: in Massachusetts. An MS thirteen gang member from Al Salvador
- 0:07Speaker 1: accused of murdering a Texas man of Venezuelan charged with
- 0:11Speaker 1: filming and selling child pornography in Michigan. These are just
- 0:15Speaker 1: some of the heinous migrant criminals caught because of President
- 0:19Speaker 1: Donald J. Trump's leadership. I'm Christy nom the United States
- 0:23Speaker 1: Secretary of Homeland Security. Under President Trump, attempted illegal border
- 0:28Speaker 1: crossings are at the lowest levels ever recorded, and over
- 0:31Speaker 1: one hundred thousand illegal aliens have been arrested. If you
- 0:35Speaker 1: are here illegally, your next you will be fined nearly
- 0:39Speaker 1: one thousand dollars a day, imprisoned, and deported. You will
- 0:43Speaker 1: never return. But if you register using our CBP home
- 0:46Speaker 1: app and leave now, you could be allowed to return legally.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Do what's right. Leave now. Under President Trump, America's laws,
- 0:55Speaker 1: border and families will be protected.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Sponsored by the United States Department of Homeland Security.
- 1:01Speaker 3: All right, guys, welcome back. We are in special headquarters
- 1:05Speaker 3: right now. We're not in our usual studio, but it
- 1:08Speaker 3: feels familiar. Yeah, we got a lot of friends here.
- 1:12Speaker 3: The Rock Nation building new York City. We only come
- 1:15Speaker 3: to this building for special occasions, so we were summoned
- 1:19Speaker 3: every time.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Every time were summoned, we show up.
- 1:23Speaker 4: That's a fact.
- 1:24Speaker 3: We got summoned today by one of the biggest in
- 1:26Speaker 3: the game, somebody that we've actually been wanting to talk
- 1:28Speaker 3: to for a while now. But everything happens when it's
- 1:31Speaker 3: supposed to happen. So Yo Gotti, Yes, congratulations. First and foremost,
- 1:36Speaker 3: I know you got a project that's dropping Gangster gross
- 1:39Speaker 3: so we're going to talk about that, but we're also
- 1:41Speaker 3: going to talk about everything that you have going on
- 1:44Speaker 3: and so much stuff. I feel like you're one of
- 1:47Speaker 3: these people that just keep going. You know, it's like
- 1:51Speaker 3: a few people rose you. It's like you know a
- 1:53Speaker 3: few people that just kind of just when you think
- 1:55Speaker 3: they've reached a certain pinnacle, they do something else totally
- 1:58Speaker 3: out the box that nobody really So I'm really excited
- 2:02Speaker 3: to have this conversation. Thank you for joining us, appreciate it.
- 2:05Speaker 3: Let's get it, yeah for sure. So all right, so
- 2:08Speaker 3: we're gonna talk about the business, but first let's talk
- 2:10Speaker 3: about the project. What made you want to do a
- 2:12Speaker 3: gangster grows like Gangster GROLs obviously, that's like legendary mix
- 2:17Speaker 3: tape type series.
- 2:18Speaker 4: Vibes with DJ drama.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Obviously where you are in your game right now, you're
- 2:21Speaker 3: a veteran label owner, entrepreneur, I feel like you want
- 2:26Speaker 3: to kind of go back.
- 2:26Speaker 4: To the core. Yeah, it's an art piece, you know
- 2:29Speaker 4: what I'm saying, Like at this point, one man and
- 2:32Speaker 4: moving forward, like any music composition I put together. To me,
- 2:37Speaker 4: it's like it's purposeful and it's an art piece, you
- 2:40Speaker 4: know what I mean. So it's a short project, it's
- 2:43Speaker 4: ten songs being Dramma, and it's like it was like
- 2:46Speaker 4: the answer something that I started in two thousand and six.
- 2:49Speaker 4: I put out a mixtape call I Told You so,
- 2:52Speaker 4: you know what I mean, and when I was like,
- 2:54Speaker 4: had a vision of doing a lot of these things,
- 2:56Speaker 4: I actually done. So this is kind of like the
- 3:00Speaker 4: follow up that is like I showed you so you
- 3:02Speaker 4: know what I'm saying, And to me, it is purposeful.
- 3:06Speaker 4: It's an art piece. And Drumma was a part of it.
- 3:10Speaker 4: That movement, just the whole the whole culture had felt
- 3:15Speaker 4: back then was a part of it, you know what
- 3:18Speaker 4: I mean. I wanted to capture that feeling within the project.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:21Speaker 5: When I looked at the titles I checked the project,
- 3:23Speaker 5: I was dope. I'm gonna talk about a few of
- 3:25Speaker 5: the saws that I really like. I want to learn
- 3:28Speaker 5: how to pronounce the word view like you pronounced it.
- 3:30Speaker 5: But we'll get into that. So you went from I
- 3:32Speaker 5: told you show to I showed you so right, which
- 3:35Speaker 5: is very fitting because that's a seventeen year span between projects.
- 3:39Speaker 5: Obviously coming from Memphis, most people are not looking at
- 3:41Speaker 5: it from a hip hop scene at the time. In
- 3:43Speaker 5: two thousand and six, this is going to be a
- 3:44Speaker 5: prominent place where that could dominate music. What was that
- 3:48Speaker 5: process like over the seventeen years of continuousy grinding and
- 3:51Speaker 5: contingency grind to.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Say like, nah, we got something to say.
- 3:55Speaker 4: I mean, the project was just like a you know,
- 3:58Speaker 4: an ongoing hustle, you know what I'm saying. It's like,
- 4:00Speaker 4: you know, when you're driving the car, you got to
- 4:03Speaker 4: have the navigation. You got to know where you're going.
- 4:05Speaker 4: Everybody may not know it, may be a lot of
- 4:07Speaker 4: people that jump in and out of car, may be
- 4:09Speaker 4: some solid ones that never get out the car, but
- 4:12Speaker 4: somebody got to have a rollmap, you know what I'm saying.
- 4:15Speaker 4: I feel like I'm one of them people that always
- 4:16Speaker 4: had the rollmap when it came to hustling or it
- 4:19Speaker 4: came to the playing, you know what I'm saying. That's
- 4:22Speaker 4: one of the things I feel like I was just
- 4:23Speaker 4: blessed with, like the way that sometimes I don't have
- 4:26Speaker 4: the answer, I'm just driving right, but I figured it
- 4:29Speaker 4: out on my way, you know what I'm saying, And
- 4:31Speaker 4: I always end up going in the right direction. So
- 4:36Speaker 4: let's talk about the label. I feel like you.
- 4:40Speaker 3: Have the hottest label in the game right now with
- 4:42Speaker 3: so many artists Like I don't know how you You're
- 4:48Speaker 3: extremely talented as far as finding these artists, like are
- 4:52Speaker 3: you actually like do you have it air as at
- 4:54Speaker 3: an R? Because from ESG to money Bag YOD to
- 5:00Speaker 3: A forty two Doug, they're all different type of artists,
- 5:05Speaker 3: but they all may hit records. Like how do you
- 5:09Speaker 3: continuously find artists and get them to become stars?
- 5:14Speaker 4: I mean, I don't do it by myself, you know,
- 5:16Speaker 4: of course I think, well, of course I got the era,
- 5:20Speaker 4: I got a I got the eyesight, I got the indicators,
- 5:24Speaker 4: I got you know everything. We need to identify the
- 5:28Speaker 4: right talent and to move it in the right direction.
- 5:30Speaker 4: But it ain't just me by far, you know what
- 5:32Speaker 4: I mean. We got a big team, We got a
- 5:34Speaker 4: big staff, you know, and we run our company in
- 5:38Speaker 4: like an open table discussion type, you know, I mean,
- 5:41Speaker 4: like anybody can present anything, you know. I mean, you
- 5:43Speaker 4: don't even got to be an an r. You can
- 5:45Speaker 4: be anybody be like I think this dope, I think
- 5:47Speaker 4: this key here, and you just put it on the table.
- 5:49Speaker 4: We look at everything and if we think it's you
- 5:52Speaker 4: know what I'm saying, if we think it's some of
- 5:54Speaker 4: course I got the least say it like, you know
- 5:56Speaker 4: what I mean, Like if I think that's what it is,
- 5:59Speaker 4: and my team lead and I'm gonna make the right decision.
- 6:01Speaker 4: So but it ain't you know, every artist can come differently.
- 6:05Speaker 3: How do you determine because you haven't really missed that's
- 6:08Speaker 3: extremely difficult to do. To just continuously get artists that
- 6:12Speaker 3: are successful, that's almost impossible. How have you been able
- 6:16Speaker 3: to It's one thing to you know, identify a person
- 6:19Speaker 3: has talent. Another thing to identified a person can actually
- 6:23Speaker 3: go through the process and actually make it. It can't
- 6:27Speaker 3: just be luck like five after five people. There's a
- 6:30Speaker 3: system that's put in place, like you have to have
- 6:32Speaker 3: something that is filtering people to make it. So, like,
- 6:37Speaker 3: what do you look for in an artist to say
- 6:39Speaker 3: like this is a person that I really want to
- 6:41Speaker 3: invest in.
- 6:43Speaker 4: I think, first of all, I'm a artists first, you
- 6:45Speaker 4: know what I'm saying, So I understand artists. What's up?
- 6:48Speaker 6: Bro?
- 6:49Speaker 2: We'll be interrupted by Mike Rubin.
- 7:00Speaker 7: Saying that.
- 7:05Speaker 4: It was here that keep it rolling, talk about my
- 7:10Speaker 4: guy killing it to work. I appreciate it, Yeah, but uh,
- 7:24Speaker 4: I mean I was saying I'm an artist first. So
- 7:26Speaker 4: I think that's one of my biggest My biggest strengths
- 7:31Speaker 4: is that I feel like I can understand the artists
- 7:33Speaker 4: in the way nobody else can or most executives can't,
- 7:37Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying. Like they may understand you know,
- 7:40Speaker 4: marketing or or different things that I understand too, but
- 7:45Speaker 4: understanding the artists and knowing how to motivate the artists,
- 7:49Speaker 4: how to help an artist, how to pull things out
- 7:50Speaker 4: of artists, you know, knowing that I had to shut
- 7:54Speaker 4: artist confidence down or ego down, or or not getting
- 7:58Speaker 4: in their way. That's a whole another trait, you know
- 8:01Speaker 4: what I'm saying. So I think I know that from
- 8:05Speaker 4: being an artist myself. And also like we just try
- 8:08Speaker 4: to pick right you know what I mean, Like we
- 8:10Speaker 4: don't just sign anything or anybody or you know, we
- 8:14Speaker 4: make sure we do the due diligence that we picking
- 8:17Speaker 4: the right person, you know what I'm saying. So we
- 8:21Speaker 4: ain't just got a lot of things in the mix
- 8:24Speaker 4: just taking up a lot of time.
- 8:25Speaker 5: So being an artist, right, and I think this is
- 8:28Speaker 5: something that you've mastered, and we've seen very few people
- 8:30Speaker 5: master having a label and having artists that sometimes will
- 8:35Speaker 5: grow even bigger than you are at.
- 8:38Speaker 2: The present time. So we've watched money Back explode.
- 8:41Speaker 5: His career is out of control, right, and then you
- 8:44Speaker 5: come back in forty two is incredible, right, you see,
- 8:48Speaker 5: it's g's incredible.
- 8:49Speaker 2: And then Glo Reala just comes through and SMOs everybody.
- 8:53Speaker 5: How is it from your standpoint of being like, one,
- 8:57Speaker 5: ye're an artist and getting out of the way of
- 8:59Speaker 5: your artists too, see and encouraging them. Right when I'm
- 9:02Speaker 5: listening to Fake Love, I'm like, you know, he's reflective
- 9:04Speaker 5: of these moments.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Right.
- 9:06Speaker 5: Even the billboard cover was like, nah, I'm not doing
- 9:08Speaker 5: this cover unless they're with me, So like, is that
- 9:11Speaker 5: something that you have to grow into to realize, like
- 9:13Speaker 5: y'all gonna get out there way, let them shine, that
- 9:14Speaker 5: their success's monitor Like how do you balance that?
- 9:17Speaker 4: Well, first, I think all the artists I work with
- 9:19Speaker 4: like different artists, and that everybody's different artists, they different businesses.
- 9:23Speaker 4: They all they own separate businesses and entities. That's how
- 9:26Speaker 4: I look at it from a business standpoint, Like everybody
- 9:30Speaker 4: business model to success or profit or whatever it is
- 9:34Speaker 4: we try to do is different. You know, or work
- 9:36Speaker 4: for Glow you know that ain't mean never work for
- 9:39Speaker 4: money Bag or work for money Bag. Don't mean that
- 9:41Speaker 4: worked for g or Doug. You know what I mean.
- 9:43Speaker 4: You gotta be like that in tune with the details.
- 9:46Speaker 4: It ain't like a factory where you're just doing the
- 9:48Speaker 4: same thing with every single person that come through her,
- 9:51Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying. And I don't think I
- 9:54Speaker 4: had to grow into that because I ain't never been
- 9:57Speaker 4: that type of individual, you know what I'm saying. You
- 9:59Speaker 4: know I was in the music business when I was
- 10:02Speaker 4: just in the street. I was able to get money
- 10:04Speaker 4: or my partners in the street without having an ego
- 10:07Speaker 4: or issue, you know what I'm saying. Like I always
- 10:09Speaker 4: been a selfless person, and I always been a team person.
- 10:12Speaker 4: So I ain't never I ain't never helped to grow
- 10:14Speaker 4: into stepping out the way. I'm not the way anyway.
- 10:18Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying. Hey, I not easy to do,
- 10:23Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying. So you know, I understand
- 10:25Speaker 4: my position. I understand I'm a team player. I know
- 10:28Speaker 4: how to play my role, you know what I mean.
- 10:30Speaker 4: I let people do what they want to do. I
- 10:31Speaker 4: don't get in nobody way. You know what I'm saying.
- 10:33Speaker 4: I do what I was supposed to do for them,
- 10:35Speaker 4: and we don't have no issues.
- 10:37Speaker 3: So let's take it back to the beginning. You start,
- 10:41Speaker 3: because the first time I heard about you, it was crazy.
- 10:44Speaker 3: I haven't heard your name for a long time, but
- 10:45Speaker 3: I wasn't in tune your music. And I saw a
- 10:48Speaker 3: video I think it was in Dallas and.
- 10:50Speaker 8: You walk through a mall and like you shut the
- 10:51Speaker 8: mall down, and I had never heard your song before,
- 10:55Speaker 8: and I just just that just blew my mind that
- 10:58Speaker 8: I'm like, damn like and dependent, like I never heard
- 11:01Speaker 8: his music before, and he obviously.
- 11:03Speaker 4: In the South, was like jay Z.
- 11:05Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying, So what's the first Like
- 11:09Speaker 3: steps that you took to get the label off the ground?
- 11:12Speaker 3: Did you come in independent as a label? You came
- 11:14Speaker 3: in as an artist then signed with the major, Like
- 11:16Speaker 3: what's the process from the start to here?
- 11:19Speaker 4: Came in as an artist through my own label from
- 11:22Speaker 4: the beginning, off the yeah front, off the rip. But
- 11:25Speaker 4: then you know, as I got into the game, you know,
- 11:28Speaker 4: I signed as an artist a couple of times, two
- 11:30Speaker 4: different labels, TVT Records, UH RCA. You know, I bought
- 11:36Speaker 4: myself out of a couple of contracts, you know what
- 11:38Speaker 4: I'm saying. I bought myself out to deal with TVT,
- 11:42Speaker 4: UH the one with r c A too. So I
- 11:46Speaker 4: played kind of on both sides of the field, and
- 11:49Speaker 4: I think, you know, as an artist, sometimes you have
- 11:51Speaker 4: to depend on everybody. What you need what you don't
- 11:55Speaker 4: need is different, you know what I'm saying. So I
- 11:57Speaker 4: came in though as an artist with my own label
- 12:01Speaker 4: from the beginning, I went into just being an artist
- 12:03Speaker 4: on a major label. I came back out of this system,
- 12:06Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying. Said I was gonna be
- 12:07Speaker 4: independent if ever end up doing a partnership with a
- 12:10Speaker 4: major again, because I felt like that were made sense
- 12:13Speaker 4: at the time. So it's just you know, I've been
- 12:16Speaker 4: going through through different different layers of it.
- 12:19Speaker 5: Yeah, there's one thing that I've never heard, and this
- 12:21Speaker 5: is quite astonishing, right, Like a lot of times in
- 12:24Speaker 5: the music business we hear that artists they didn't like that.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Contract, it was a bad deal, bad contract. I've never
- 12:30Speaker 2: heard a story about that from you.
- 12:31Speaker 5: So, like, how did you get the business savvy to
- 12:33Speaker 5: navigate through all these deals and make sure that you're
- 12:36Speaker 5: on the right end of everything that you signed, I.
- 12:39Speaker 4: Mean, keeping it g I ain't saying I was just
- 12:41Speaker 4: like super business sabbog on this, you know, coming since
- 12:45Speaker 4: I think coming, since it's the best since best business since,
- 12:48Speaker 4: you know what I mean. But I wouldn't say I
- 12:50Speaker 4: was super savage own the music business from the beginning,
- 12:53Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying, Like I think my first
- 12:55Speaker 4: couple of contracts are bad. I just ain't a complaining
- 12:58Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying. I am type of nigga
- 13:00Speaker 4: that make excuses and be whining, and I don't feel
- 13:03Speaker 4: like getting on the internet talking about a contract helps me,
- 13:07Speaker 4: you know what I mean? What that do for me?
- 13:09Speaker 4: You know what I mean? Like, you know it's like
- 13:11Speaker 4: you in with you in, get through it. If you
- 13:13Speaker 4: learn something from it, don't get it again. That's the
- 13:16Speaker 4: type of person I am. So you'll never hear me
- 13:18Speaker 4: whining then complaining and making excuses about even if I
- 13:21Speaker 4: got to even if I'm dealt a bad hand, I'm
- 13:23Speaker 4: gonna just make the best out of it and then
- 13:26Speaker 4: and learn from it, you know what I mean. So
- 13:27Speaker 4: I wouldn't say that my first couple of situations, I
- 13:30Speaker 4: went into what the best ones. I don't know if
- 13:33Speaker 4: you heard me say that. I brought myself out my
- 13:35Speaker 4: first couple of contracts. I had to buy myself out
- 13:38Speaker 4: for a reason. You just ain't never seen me on
- 13:40Speaker 4: the internet wiring about it, you know what. I think
- 13:43Speaker 4: that's the difference. How much how much did it cost
- 13:45Speaker 4: to buy yourself off? I think the first one like
- 13:47Speaker 4: four five hundred or some four five hundred thousand I
- 13:51Speaker 4: think I signed for. I think they gave me like
- 13:54Speaker 4: forty thousand. How many albums was you obligated for? I
- 13:58Speaker 4: mean I would like to typle trick, probably four or five. Okay,
- 14:02Speaker 4: So why'd you buy yourself out? You just didn't see
- 14:04Speaker 4: it going anywhere? Yeah, I mean the company had kind
- 14:06Speaker 4: of folded. They had the company had folded, and then
- 14:08Speaker 4: the contracts got inquired by the next company they bought it,
- 14:13Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying. So we basically moved to
- 14:15Speaker 4: the company they bought the other company, you know what
- 14:17Speaker 4: I'm saying. But I wasn't really like super pleased with
- 14:21Speaker 4: the original company anyway, you know what I mean. So
- 14:24Speaker 4: I saw that as a move when they went to
- 14:26Speaker 4: the new new company to approach them, like, Yo, I'm
- 14:30Speaker 4: trying to like do something different, you know what I'm saying,
- 14:32Speaker 4: But I ain't ask it for nothing for free, you
- 14:34Speaker 4: know what it calls or how we can work it
- 14:36Speaker 4: out big.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Of course, to be the boss.
- 14:39Speaker 5: So two thousand and six, the first mixtape dropped, well,
- 14:41Speaker 5: not the first mixtape, but the first Gangs the Gills
- 14:43Speaker 5: Gainst the Grills drops twenty thirteen.
- 14:46Speaker 2: There's a transition where now.
- 14:48Speaker 5: This isn't a Memphis story, this is becoming a national
- 14:51Speaker 5: everybody's starting to know the name. What was the strategy
- 14:55Speaker 5: from your team at that point to Sor right, we
- 14:57Speaker 5: got to make ourselves more known to the general pub
- 15:00Speaker 5: but we got to become a part of the fixture
- 15:01Speaker 5: of hip hop culture.
- 15:05Speaker 4: I feel like we always felt like that, you know
- 15:07Speaker 4: what I'm saying. I felt like we were just hustling
- 15:09Speaker 4: and you know, trying to make our way through the
- 15:12Speaker 4: game and learning as we was going. You know, I
- 15:14Speaker 4: always been a study or so like I always studied
- 15:17Speaker 4: certain people like Jay Z and Jay Prince and mister
- 15:22Speaker 4: P bird MANA. Slim. Actually spent a lot of time
- 15:26Speaker 4: with bird Man and Slim earlier in my career, and
- 15:29Speaker 4: that that kind of taught me a lot of my
- 15:31Speaker 4: executive skills and just just just really just seeing the
- 15:35Speaker 4: game firsthand from being able to like watch a person
- 15:38Speaker 4: go through and deal with it. Them years that I
- 15:41Speaker 4: was around bird Man and Slim was probably like to
- 15:43Speaker 4: me some of my most valuable lessons and and game
- 15:48Speaker 4: I was able to pick up. What's one of the
- 15:50Speaker 4: one of the things you learned from them, I mean
- 15:52Speaker 4: one of the things I learned that like, you know,
- 15:54Speaker 4: you got to you gotta take this shit serious and
- 15:56Speaker 4: you gotta work, you know what I mean. I don't
- 15:57Speaker 4: think I seen nobody that were more than them, you know,
- 16:01Speaker 4: so I look at I look at life like this, right,
- 16:04Speaker 4: so you know, just the cash money me now said
- 16:08Speaker 4: they going to the studio every day. The studio is
- 16:10Speaker 4: the office, you know what I mean. So I'm like
- 16:14Speaker 4: niggas ain't working more than them, and they you know,
- 16:18Speaker 4: a hundred times ahead of you. They out hustling you,
- 16:22Speaker 4: and you way behind, you know what I mean. So
- 16:24Speaker 4: like if anybody that if you probably ever talk to
- 16:27Speaker 4: that have been around just the cash money family system,
- 16:31Speaker 4: like you know, the way Wayne was in the studio,
- 16:33Speaker 4: the way they stayed in the studio, like this was
- 16:36Speaker 4: like the trap, like ify day, wake up, report to
- 16:39Speaker 4: the studio. But it makes sense right because you selling music,
- 16:43Speaker 4: you know what I mean. Like it's like being in
- 16:44Speaker 4: the street and but you never own your you feel
- 16:48Speaker 4: I mean, like what you're doing, you know what I mean. So, uh,
- 16:51Speaker 4: that was one of the things I learned, and I
- 16:53Speaker 4: man a lot of more things, you know, a lot
- 16:55Speaker 4: of things I learned just you know, you know, directly
- 16:58Speaker 4: and directly. So the situation that you have now CMG.
- 17:04Speaker 4: You said it's distributed through scope and Universal Partnership and LESCOPE. Okay,
- 17:10Speaker 4: so when did that formalize? That a couple of years
- 17:14Speaker 4: ago and like maybe two three years but.
- 17:17Speaker 3: So what is that because we had that a lot
- 17:18Speaker 3: like what does that actually mean? So that means that
- 17:20Speaker 3: they distributed. All right, we get that part of it,
- 17:23Speaker 3: and then.
- 17:24Speaker 5: How do I save? Where do I invest? Can I

- 17:59Speaker 3: You and them the music they distributed, they pay for
- 18:02Speaker 3: marketing or you got to pay for marketing. They take
- 18:04Speaker 3: a percentage of the album sales. Like what's the actual
- 18:07Speaker 3: business behind like that type of spot?
- 18:10Speaker 4: I mean it's a partnership, Like a true partnership is
- 18:12Speaker 4: like you know somebody that invests. Right, it's basically like
- 18:16Speaker 4: an investment. Right, you put up the paper, but I
- 18:19Speaker 4: stand behind the paper. You know what I'm saying, my
- 18:22Speaker 4: company is my decision. You know what I'm saying. I
- 18:26Speaker 4: got to make sure I deliver it for me, you
- 18:28Speaker 4: know what I'm saying. But you know, it's just come
- 18:30Speaker 4: with services too. So you may have you have different
- 18:35Speaker 4: radio staff, or you have you know, TV and FAM
- 18:39Speaker 4: and you have different departments that you also able to
- 18:42Speaker 4: tap into outside of the financial resources that they give you.
- 18:47Speaker 4: But it's still your company and you you driving the
- 18:51Speaker 4: car and your company, cause they have partnerships with many people,
- 18:54Speaker 4: so they're not writing the plan out for you. You
- 18:57Speaker 4: know what I'm saying. They just help you. They basically
- 18:59Speaker 4: your partner give your budget.
- 19:00Speaker 3: Yeah, and your budget is determined by how successful you are.
- 19:04Speaker 4: Like every regular, I think I think your budget is
- 19:07Speaker 4: determined off. Actually I think I actually think your budget
- 19:12Speaker 4: is determined off if they believe you know what the
- 19:13Speaker 4: fuck you're doing or not. You know what I'm saying,
- 19:16Speaker 4: Because actually I can do whatever I want to do.
- 19:20Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying. If I say, get that
- 19:23Speaker 4: person and to spend this on this person to do that,
- 19:25Speaker 4: I ain't never getting questioned, you know what I'm saying.
- 19:28Speaker 4: But I'm also proven to know what I'm doing. So
- 19:32Speaker 4: I believe it's if they feel like you know what
- 19:34Speaker 4: you're doing and who you is. I think they that's
- 19:36Speaker 4: that's how the partnership go, you know what I mean,
- 19:39Speaker 4: probably different than your business. If your partner felt like
- 19:43Speaker 4: you want to do an interveria top of the uh yeah,
- 19:49Speaker 4: if I statement and they're like, man, shit, caught three
- 19:51Speaker 4: hundred down to do that, don't make sense, you know
- 19:53Speaker 4: what I'm saying. Or they just believe in whatever you
- 19:55Speaker 4: say is the way because you're always proving that the
- 19:59Speaker 4: plays you make all pay off. You know what I'm saying,
- 20:01Speaker 4: They're always the right place. Every time everything you bring
- 20:04Speaker 4: to the table, it's it always worked.
- 20:06Speaker 3: It's like Michael Jordan could streame on a coach John Paxson,
- 20:11Speaker 3: can't you know what I mean? Sont really?
- 20:14Speaker 4: I think with me? I just thought about that when
- 20:16Speaker 4: you said that, you know, I make my I create,
- 20:19Speaker 4: I create my own budgets.
- 20:22Speaker 5: How is it when you know there's a project, or
- 20:26Speaker 5: there may be a piece of art that an artist
- 20:28Speaker 5: is trying to create and you don't see the vision,
- 20:30Speaker 5: but the artist does, right, Like, how do how do
- 20:33Speaker 5: you navigate through that? Because I mean, there's got to
- 20:35Speaker 5: be a resolution and sometimes you have the final say,
- 20:37Speaker 5: but you know the artist is looking at it as
- 20:40Speaker 5: their creative piece of art that they're offering to the world.
- 20:42Speaker 2: So how do you navigate that type of situation?
- 20:45Speaker 8: With me?
- 20:45Speaker 4: With every artists I work with and ever work with,
- 20:47Speaker 4: they always got the found say, yeah, is they art?
- 20:52Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying, is they life? Is they art?
- 20:55Speaker 5: You know?
- 20:55Speaker 4: I'm more of a like a mentor advice you know,
- 21:00Speaker 4: like truly your partner who you can we can go
- 21:03Speaker 4: back and forth about hash, you know, its opinion and advice,
- 21:07Speaker 4: but at the end of the day, whatever the artists
- 21:09Speaker 4: want to do, that's that's how we roll them.
- 21:11Speaker 3: So I always look at running a label kind of
- 21:14Speaker 3: like a coach. You got to manage personalities, extremely difficult.
- 21:18Speaker 3: Everybody's coming from different areas, they got different egos. All
- 21:21Speaker 3: artists have egos. It has to happen. You wouldn't be
- 21:25Speaker 3: a successful artist if you didn't have ego. Some people
- 21:28Speaker 3: egos are bigger than others. But you have to manage that.
- 21:32Speaker 4: How difficult is that?
- 21:33Speaker 3: And how do you how do you manage dealing with
- 21:37Speaker 3: so many different people and making sure that everybody is happy,
- 21:39Speaker 3: taken care of and not feeling neglected. A lot of
- 21:42Speaker 3: times people don't tell you that they feel a certain
- 21:44Speaker 3: way until it's too late, you know what I mean,
- 21:46Speaker 3: Like how do you.
- 21:47Speaker 4: How do you do that? I mean, I just try to,
- 21:49Speaker 4: like you know, I think one of the most important
- 21:51Speaker 4: things is your relationship with everybody individually. You know what
- 21:55Speaker 4: I mean, whatever bun it is, you be also, I'm
- 21:58Speaker 4: heavy on it. And to me, how you be heavy
- 22:00Speaker 4: on that is transparency truth. You know what I mean,
- 22:04Speaker 4: whether it's good or bad, I'm always gonna tell you
- 22:07Speaker 4: the truth, you know what I mean, because I want
- 22:08Speaker 4: to create that relationship that's like you know what I mean,
- 22:11Speaker 4: like we like brothers mean like you can or you
- 22:13Speaker 4: can tell me the truth. You know what I mean.
- 22:15Speaker 4: And and that's me and your theme whether it's good
- 22:18Speaker 4: or bad like and it ain't it ain't gonna ever
- 22:20Speaker 4: leave me and you you know what I mean. So
- 22:22Speaker 4: to me, my goal is to always create that with
- 22:25Speaker 4: whoever I'm working with. And it's like a trust thing,
- 22:28Speaker 4: like if I can trust you and you can trust me,
- 22:30Speaker 4: they don't matter how good or bad this shit be,
- 22:33Speaker 4: and we in it together. To me, that's the strongest
- 22:36Speaker 4: thing you can create and then make the business flow.
- 22:39Speaker 4: They make the business flow, like even smoother because now
- 22:43Speaker 4: you and the artists always know that, like you one
- 22:46Speaker 4: thousand with them, and if you one, you gonna let
- 22:49Speaker 4: them know, not in front of everybody. You know what
- 22:51Speaker 4: I'm saying, Like we can be in there, we can
- 22:52Speaker 4: be in there in front of the endoscope, and I
- 22:55Speaker 4: think what you said is the worst shit in the world.
- 22:58Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying. But I never said you
- 23:00Speaker 2: have a conversation after you feel me.
- 23:01Speaker 4: I never say this ship right there? You know what
- 23:04Speaker 4: I mean. Now when we leave, I can't even see
- 23:06Speaker 4: it in front of you know, my people and young people.
- 23:09Speaker 4: You know, when me and you get alan or me
- 23:10Speaker 4: and you get on the phone, then I tell you
- 23:13Speaker 4: like I don't agree with that. I don't think that
- 23:15Speaker 4: shit smart. But I'm also gonna tell you but if
- 23:18Speaker 4: that's how you want to roll, that's how we're gonna roll.
- 23:21Speaker 2: Stand up.
- 23:22Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying. But I gotta let you
- 23:24Speaker 4: know because I can't afford if it goes long for
- 23:28Speaker 4: you to tell me why you ain't telling me this ship?
- 23:31Speaker 4: You know what I mean, Like, like why ain't tear
- 23:33Speaker 4: me with tripping. Bro.
- 23:36Speaker 2: I seen this on some videos in the past, and
- 23:38Speaker 2: I'm like, I don got to. I know he's gonna
- 23:40Speaker 2: say something after this video for you. I mean, that's
- 23:43Speaker 2: that's your stand up.
- 23:44Speaker 4: But you got to, cause I feel like, Bro, when
- 23:45Speaker 4: you're a true team, you gotta be able to take
- 23:48Speaker 4: the hit sometimes the of the the hard part of
- 23:52Speaker 4: the loss or whatever. Just like you can go to
- 23:55Speaker 4: the bank with the motherfucker. You know what I'm saying.
- 23:57Speaker 4: You gotta be able to, you know, take to hit
- 24:00Speaker 4: with them too.
- 24:00Speaker 3: If that were the cause you see what you've seen
- 24:03Speaker 3: it As a leader, just from looking at it, you're
- 24:07Speaker 3: more of a laid back.
- 24:08Speaker 4: Type of vibe as opposed to hip hop.
- 24:10Speaker 3: We've always had the label on it in the forefront
- 24:13Speaker 3: like Diddy, like Shook Knight, like you know, these are
- 24:16Speaker 3: like very like aggressive personalities, but you seem like you're
- 24:20Speaker 3: more like you said, you kind of just let them
- 24:22Speaker 3: do what they want to do. You might give them advice,
- 24:24Speaker 3: you're going to you always like that or this something
- 24:26Speaker 3: that you had to learn to kind of like just
- 24:29Speaker 3: play a little bit back and kind of not be
- 24:31Speaker 3: too assertive.
- 24:33Speaker 4: Nothing. I always been like that, Yeah, I always been
- 24:36Speaker 4: like that, because again, I always understood a team. Always
- 24:39Speaker 4: understood the team win championships. No one person win the championship,
- 24:44Speaker 4: not even me, And it's my label. I can't do
- 24:47Speaker 4: this shit by myself. You know what I'm saying, be
- 24:49Speaker 4: young the artists, Like I got twenty thirty staff members,
- 24:53Speaker 4: I wanted to go saying I got twenty thirty staff
- 24:55Speaker 4: member to me is just just as important, you know
- 24:57Speaker 4: what I mean, Because I can't do it all without them,
- 25:00Speaker 4: You know what I mean, Like, were working twenty four
- 25:02Speaker 4: hours round the clock for eight man people every day.
- 25:06Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying, fixing, ship playing and ship
- 25:09Speaker 4: mark you know what I mean, Like, you can't do that.
- 25:12Speaker 4: You can't do that by yourself, you you know what
- 25:14Speaker 4: I mean. You got to have the right team that
- 25:16Speaker 4: I was.
- 25:16Speaker 5: I was going there because as you're talking, I'm thinking
- 25:18Speaker 5: to myself, Yes, you're signing artists, but when you sign artists,
- 25:21Speaker 5: they come with antoage of people. But on top of
- 25:24Speaker 5: just signing them, you're actually every time you get a
- 25:27Speaker 5: new artist and they are super successful, you're scaling, and
- 25:30Speaker 5: so you have to hire new people to help with
- 25:32Speaker 5: that scaling process.
- 25:33Speaker 2: So, like, how involved in that are you?
- 25:36Speaker 7: Are you?
- 25:36Speaker 2: Is it somebody?
- 25:37Speaker 4: Like?
- 25:37Speaker 2: Who are the people on the team that make sure
- 25:39Speaker 2: that we're going to a point where got to scale?
- 25:42Speaker 2: What's the budget? You know, who's making pick? Like, who's
- 25:45Speaker 2: doing all that we got?
- 25:47Speaker 4: We got? We ain't running no like this ain't no
- 25:50Speaker 4: because people forget that. It's I mean, we ain't running
- 25:52Speaker 4: no fake label shit over like right right right? We
- 25:54Speaker 4: got everything, you know what I'm saying, All the financial ship,
- 25:57Speaker 4: the uh you know hr like everything is professionally runing,
- 26:02Speaker 4: the offices, everything is like you know what I mean?
- 26:05Speaker 4: And I try to bring on Actually, every time we
- 26:08Speaker 4: sign an artist, we try to bring on two three
- 26:10Speaker 4: extra staff members because we want every artist to have
- 26:14Speaker 4: people dedicated. It's dedicated to just them, you know what
- 26:18Speaker 4: I'm saying. So every time we bring on a artists,
- 26:20Speaker 4: we bring on more staff.
- 26:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I think people forget that part.
- 26:23Speaker 5: It's like they you know, you see artists and it
- 26:25Speaker 5: becomes successful, the first thing they want to do is like,
- 26:27Speaker 5: I'm a creative label, but there's a business that goes
- 26:29Speaker 5: behind the misstructure.
- 26:32Speaker 4: You got to run the business behind it because I
- 26:33Speaker 4: ain't gonna be you know, my things, I ain't doing
- 26:35Speaker 4: this shit to look good. I ain't doing this shit
- 26:37Speaker 4: for that, you know what I mean. Like I'm a
- 26:39Speaker 4: definitely one of mean niggas. Is what a hoodie and
- 26:42Speaker 4: the loco art? You know what I mean? I'm playing
- 26:45Speaker 4: I'm playing shit for real.
- 26:46Speaker 3: So let me ask you this your perspective on this,
- 26:48Speaker 3: because we ask artists this and they all kind of
- 26:50Speaker 3: have a lot of similar views on it, but they
- 26:52Speaker 3: never also actually invested in a person and it might
- 26:56Speaker 3: not have working out.
- 26:57Speaker 4: What's your viewpoint on three sixty deals? I feel like
- 27:01Speaker 4: business is business right, you know what I mean? Going
- 27:04Speaker 4: back through I was telling you about myself in my
- 27:07Speaker 4: younger days right and my younger business ventures. I think
- 27:10Speaker 4: business is business right. I think who said this the
- 27:14Speaker 4: whole was somebody say this, like like what's one hundred
- 27:16Speaker 4: percent of zero?
- 27:18Speaker 2: Right?
- 27:19Speaker 4: So to me, you ain't thinking logical when you think
- 27:22Speaker 4: you get everything and nobody getting nothing from you. That's
- 27:26Speaker 4: not common sense, you know what I mean. So if
- 27:30Speaker 4: we meet, just give us a name. Say that's a
- 27:33Speaker 4: brand new artist who walk out this building today, right?
- 27:36Speaker 4: What's your value today? How much you're getting for a
- 27:39Speaker 4: show today, how many records you're selling today? How much
- 27:43Speaker 4: merch you're selling today? Nothing? You know what I mean.
- 27:46Speaker 4: You're grossing five hundred a year dollars right, so now
- 27:52Speaker 4: let's say us three. Put the money in, put the
- 27:55Speaker 4: work in. Now you're making five hundr median a year
- 28:01Speaker 4: or five me whatever, way, don't fuck you none of that.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Because it's a term.
- 28:07Speaker 4: That's ain three to sixty and it don't sound cool.
- 28:09Speaker 4: And you seem like you're bossed up because you ain't
- 28:12Speaker 4: in one. It's bullshit that ain't business. Stand on business,
- 28:17Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying. So you basically telling me
- 28:19Speaker 4: you want me to put on my money, You want
- 28:21Speaker 4: me to put up my time, you want me to
- 28:22Speaker 4: take my risk, but you don't want me gettinghing or
- 28:25Speaker 4: take because I haven't because it ain't guaranteed that you're
- 28:27Speaker 4: gonna win. My mean, you ain't guarantee that you're even
- 28:31Speaker 4: gonna win.
- 28:31Speaker 3: In my opinion on this, I want to come into
- 28:33Speaker 3: I said this, and I got some backlash to me.
- 28:35Speaker 3: There's no such thing as a bad deal because people
- 28:39Speaker 3: Here's how I view this. People say they got a
- 28:42Speaker 3: bad deal after the deal, like three years after you're educated,
- 28:46Speaker 3: after you have enough money. But in that moment, you
- 28:49Speaker 3: wouldn't have taken a deal if it was bad, Like
- 28:51Speaker 3: hindsight is twenty twenty. You can't look at it like that,
- 28:53Speaker 3: like you're saying like, yeah, I got five hundred thousand,
- 28:55Speaker 3: but yeah, in that moment, five hundred thousand change your life.
- 28:58Speaker 4: But in that moment, you ain't have five hundred dollars exactly,
- 29:01Speaker 4: I feel me exactly. And you had no outlets, and
- 29:04Speaker 4: you had no team, and you had no information even
- 29:08Speaker 4: how to get five thousand dollars, you know what I'm saying,
- 29:11Speaker 4: And you maybe would have never made it.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Chances are probably not, you feel me, so, I mean,
- 29:17Speaker 2: but I do I believe it.
- 29:18Speaker 4: Being fair, you know what I mean. And that's again
- 29:21Speaker 4: with me being an artist. First, you know what I'm saying,
- 29:24Speaker 4: I feel like you have to do that, you have
- 29:25Speaker 4: to do correct business. I believe that you do. You
- 29:28Speaker 4: have to be fair. So I don't think the going
- 29:31Speaker 4: back to your question, I don't think the thing is bad,
- 29:34Speaker 4: you know what I mean. Now you can dive into
- 29:35Speaker 4: what the percentages of it is, and it's different, you
- 29:39Speaker 4: know what I mean. If you're taking everything from them,
- 29:42Speaker 4: it's different because now you ain't being fair. You know
- 29:45Speaker 4: what I'm saying, but the idea love, I don't foposed
- 29:48Speaker 4: to eat with you, but I can work with you.
- 29:50Speaker 4: That ain't coming sense to me.
- 29:52Speaker 5: So as an exactly, like, let's say we get this
- 29:54Speaker 5: so called artist, what's the process of rolling out a
- 29:58Speaker 5: new artist? You've done it plenty of time and you've
- 30:00Speaker 5: done it successfully, So what's that process like? Is it
- 30:03Speaker 5: are we looking for what they have that's original to
- 30:06Speaker 5: the market, what's the analytics where they popping at? What's
- 30:09Speaker 5: that sound like? How does that process work when you're
- 30:13Speaker 5: debuting somebody?
- 30:14Speaker 4: You know? I think I think every artist is different
- 30:17Speaker 4: again going back to I think every artist is a
- 30:19Speaker 4: different business. So I think the approaches are different depending
- 30:22Speaker 4: on what artists it is, what gen music, it is,
- 30:26Speaker 4: where they're from, you know what I mean, Like what
- 30:29Speaker 4: the focus is. So I think to me, the first
- 30:32Speaker 4: step is identifying who the audience is, you know what
- 30:37Speaker 4: I mean, who were going after? Because if we know
- 30:39Speaker 4: who we're going after, then we start to build the
- 30:42Speaker 4: playing from nerve. We're going after the screeps, we're going
- 30:46Speaker 4: after the Internet, We're going to cross over like what
- 30:49Speaker 4: we what we're trying to do because each one of
- 30:51Speaker 4: them is a different map. So I think the most
- 30:54Speaker 4: important thing is a lot of people skill. The first
- 30:58Speaker 4: step is identifying what you even is. You know, one
- 31:02Speaker 4: of the first things most artists say when you meet them,
- 31:05Speaker 4: so what type of Because this when you're trying to
- 31:07Speaker 4: identify the audience, you're like, so what type of not
- 31:11Speaker 4: comparing yourself to anybody, but what type of artists? You
- 31:13Speaker 4: just so we understand who the demographic in the audience is, Like, oh,
- 31:17Speaker 4: I do everything thinking about it because most artists from
- 31:23Speaker 4: a talent level, you probably can't. You probably can't do everything,
- 31:27Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying. Nowadays you got artists who
- 31:29Speaker 4: can rap and sing, you know what I'm saying, You're
- 31:32Speaker 4: artists who get like so you could be. But when
- 31:35Speaker 4: we try to identify who were going after who the audience,
- 31:39Speaker 4: then ain't nothing else because now we're just sitting there
- 31:42Speaker 4: like we don't know, we don't know who to go
- 31:46Speaker 4: to at least first, even if we're going to go
- 31:49Speaker 4: and multiple audiences, like, we don't even know where to started.
- 31:53Speaker 4: I say this thing of like you may have somebody
- 31:57Speaker 4: that work at a de bands dealer and he the
- 32:00Speaker 4: every month he did employee of the money. He said,
- 32:03Speaker 4: one hundred beans is a month. Then you take him
- 32:05Speaker 4: to a kill stone. He can't sell a car. You
- 32:08Speaker 4: know what I'm saying, It's because he don't know the options.
- 32:11Speaker 4: You don't know the options to the comedy settling. So
- 32:14Speaker 4: I got to know the options, you know what I'm saying,
- 32:17Speaker 4: to even stay the product.
- 32:20Speaker 3: So let me ask you this switching gears a little bit.
- 32:24Speaker 3: You're an entrepreneur, not just in the business of music,
- 32:27Speaker 3: but all types of businesses. DC United you are part
- 32:31Speaker 3: owner of that. That's the soccer club football for all
- 32:35Speaker 3: the Europeans. How did you get into that? And what's
- 32:38Speaker 3: to deal with that?
- 32:41Speaker 4: I had a mean with one of the other I
- 32:44Speaker 4: had a mean initial meaning with one of the other
- 32:46Speaker 4: owners of the team. You know, we was talking about
- 32:49Speaker 4: something different at first, and you know, between building a
- 32:52Speaker 4: relationship and talking and tell him what I was trying
- 32:55Speaker 4: to do, you know, my visions in life and where
- 32:57Speaker 4: I was trying to go. And I think the opportunity
- 33:00Speaker 4: just presented presented itself, you know what I'm saying. And
- 33:04Speaker 4: I was in position to take the opportunity when it
- 33:06Speaker 4: presented itself. H And that's one of my biggest things
- 33:11Speaker 4: like I feel I'm trying to do with diversifying entrepreneurship,
- 33:16Speaker 4: you know, and as a and as who I am
- 33:18Speaker 4: and what I represent to the culture, just to show
- 33:21Speaker 4: that we could do other shit. We can do other things,
- 33:25Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying. Like you know, of course,
- 33:28Speaker 4: we don't got to street hull, so we don't got
- 33:30Speaker 4: to just do rap merries to either. We can own
- 33:32Speaker 4: professional sports team, we can do real estate, we can
- 33:37Speaker 4: do trucking companies, we can do you know, we can
- 33:39Speaker 4: be in tech investments, we can be in whatever consumer goods,
- 33:43Speaker 4: whatever we desire to be in. If we you know,
- 33:46Speaker 4: stay on point and stay on your pivot like you
- 33:48Speaker 4: you need to be, and make sure you in position.
- 33:52Speaker 4: One of my biggest things. Make sure you in position
- 33:55Speaker 4: when the opportunity presents itself.
- 33:57Speaker 2: That's right.
- 33:57Speaker 5: If you're not there, you wouldn't be able to be
- 34:00Speaker 5: part of the ownership. Was it MLS intentionally or because
- 34:03Speaker 5: that was the opportunity that was presented in front of you?
- 34:05Speaker 2: Because it is a fast grown league. I'm not even
- 34:07Speaker 2: sure I people.
- 34:08Speaker 5: Understand how fast league is growing, how much the appreciation
- 34:11Speaker 5: from twenty years ago on some of these clubs. DC
- 34:14Speaker 5: United was a prestigious one and congratulations of being part
- 34:18Speaker 5: of it. Was it intentional, MLS or it was based
- 34:20Speaker 5: on the opportunity to present it?
- 34:21Speaker 4: So I think it was based on the opportunity at
- 34:24Speaker 4: the time, you know what I'm saying. But I think
- 34:26Speaker 4: things are full circle, meaning like some of the guys
- 34:30Speaker 4: that I was able to how I was able to
- 34:35Speaker 4: get into that I had new from years and years
- 34:38Speaker 4: and years ago because they had something to do with
- 34:41Speaker 4: the Memphis Grizzley scene. And I was trying to buy
- 34:43Speaker 4: into the Memphis Grizzlies and unfortunately I didn't. I wasn't
- 34:46Speaker 4: able to do it, but I was trying to do it.
- 34:48Speaker 4: I was trying to buy the Memphick Gridley a decade
- 34:50Speaker 4: before I got into DC United. But it's some of
- 34:53Speaker 4: the same people, you know what I'm saying. So their
- 34:56Speaker 4: relationship started ten years before that, you know what I'm saying,
- 35:00Speaker 4: And you know, ten years later, that opportunity to present
- 35:03Speaker 4: it presented itself.
- 35:04Speaker 5: Yeah, I saw this a couple of weeks ago, you know,
- 35:07Speaker 5: as MLS, you at the at the White House and
- 35:10Speaker 5: I'm looking at Yo Gotti, I'm looking at Joe Biden,
- 35:14Speaker 5: and I'm wandering to myself, the guy who made youngsters
- 35:17Speaker 5: on the come up is now standing in to the
- 35:19Speaker 5: first lady.
- 35:20Speaker 2: What was that moment like for you?
- 35:24Speaker 4: I mean for me, it's like I look at everything
- 35:27Speaker 4: just like I don't know. I'm just a selfless person,
- 35:31Speaker 4: so I don't even like I don't you know what
- 35:34Speaker 4: I'm saying, Like everything I think about is like us.
- 35:38Speaker 4: You know what I mean When I say us, I
- 35:39Speaker 4: mean it's just like like the culture environment where we
- 35:42Speaker 4: come from, meaning like I just look at everything like
- 35:45Speaker 4: I'm like we are, Like I just hope that people
- 35:48Speaker 4: see that, like, man, we can we here, we can
- 35:51Speaker 4: be here, we can you know what I'm saying, Like
- 35:53Speaker 4: because these things I didn't even like that won't even
- 35:56Speaker 4: part of my plan, Like keeviny g. You know what
- 35:58Speaker 4: I'm saying, Like you know, ten fifteen years ago, I
- 36:00Speaker 4: want to thinking about there weren't even in the goals
- 36:04Speaker 4: I went thinking about, Man, get to the White House.
- 36:07Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying, Like I'm just figure not
- 36:09Speaker 4: trying to be a successful financial hustle, you know what
- 36:12Speaker 4: I mean. But I'm grateful for for everything that happens,
- 36:18Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying. And I take it serious
- 36:20Speaker 4: and I respect it, and you know, I'm proud of
- 36:26Speaker 4: proud of everything.
- 36:26Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying. I was watching the soccer skills. Okay,
- 36:34Speaker 2: but you know, my.
- 36:34Speaker 4: Son played soccer as I got introduced to the sport.
- 36:38Speaker 4: It's the only sport my son ever played. So, you know,
- 36:42Speaker 4: being a father, going to practice, going to games, I
- 36:45Speaker 4: learned about soccer, you know what I'm saying. I didn't
- 36:48Speaker 4: grow up like I don't know if I've probably never
- 36:51Speaker 4: even seen a soccer field where I grew up at.
- 36:54Speaker 4: You know, I thought soccer ball was a flat basketball,
- 36:59Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying. Like the first couple of
- 37:01Speaker 4: times were playing with a soccer ball, Like why this
- 37:03Speaker 4: shit ain't bouncing, you know what I'm saying. So, you know,
- 37:08Speaker 4: my son, he go to he live in a different
- 37:09Speaker 4: life than I live. So his school got a soccer
- 37:12Speaker 4: field at the school and that's the sport that he
- 37:14Speaker 4: decided to play, you know, So I'm just whatever he decided,
- 37:17Speaker 4: I'm supporting it. So I learned the rules of the
- 37:21Speaker 4: game and everything through him, you know what I mean.
- 37:23Speaker 4: So that was a different accomplishment for me too, because
- 37:26Speaker 4: when I was able to go back to him and
- 37:28Speaker 4: be like, Yo, you heard of DC United were thinking
- 37:31Speaker 4: about buying into the team? What you think? You know
- 37:34Speaker 4: what I mean? I was able to get his advice
- 37:36Speaker 4: on just soft in general and the team, and like
- 37:39Speaker 4: he was a big part of that whole transition for me.
- 37:42Speaker 4: So that's a whole nother feeling and the government for
- 37:46Speaker 4: me to like be able to have my son almost
- 37:51Speaker 4: walking me through the deal, you know what I'm saying.
- 37:54Speaker 3: Yeah, that's fine. So talk about Prevas the restaurant in Memphis.
- 38:00Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, prevails. It's like a staple, a staple
- 38:03Speaker 4: of Memphis now that and it became is one of
- 38:05Speaker 4: the spots. I feel like anybody come through Memphis, they
- 38:09Speaker 4: stop it. It's a family ran business, you know. When
- 38:15Speaker 4: it comes to that, it's probably one of the hardest
- 38:17Speaker 4: things I ever done. Out of every business I ever ran,
- 38:21Speaker 4: that's the hardest thing I ever tried to do. And
- 38:24Speaker 4: it's probably the only business I ever failed. It in
- 38:26Speaker 4: a sense like myself personally, Like when I was running
- 38:30Speaker 4: it hands on myself the first couple of years they're
- 38:33Speaker 4: over when I was trying to do everything hands on,
- 38:36Speaker 4: Like when I say fail, not that we ever went
- 38:39Speaker 4: out of business and went.
- 38:40Speaker 5: At the time is come, lady and gentlemen. Invest Fest

- 41:08Speaker 1: An illegal alien from Guatemala charged with raping a child
- 41:12Speaker 1: in Massachusetts. An MS thirteen gang member from Al Salvador
- 41:16Speaker 1: accused of murdering a Texas man of Venezuelan charged with
- 41:20Speaker 1: filming and selling child pornography in Michigan. These are just
- 41:24Speaker 1: some of the heinous migrant criminals caught because of President
- 41:28Speaker 1: Donald J. Trump's leadership. I'm Christy Noman, the United States
- 41:32Speaker 1: Secretary of Homeland Security. Under President Trump, attempted illegal border
- 41:36Speaker 1: crossings are at the lowest levels ever recorded, and over
- 41:40Speaker 1: one hundred thousand illegal aliens have been arrested. If you
- 41:43Speaker 1: are here illegally, your next you will be fined nearly
- 41:47Speaker 1: one thousand dollars a day, imprisoned, and deported. You will
- 41:51Speaker 1: never return. But if you register using our CBP home
- 41:55Speaker 1: app and leave now, you could be allowed to return legally.
- 41:59Speaker 1: Do what's right to leave now. Under President Trump, America's laws,
- 42:04Speaker 1: border and families.
- 42:05Speaker 4: Will be protected. Sponsored by the United States Department of
- 42:08Speaker 4: Homeland security, meaning that the numbers was upside down, way
- 42:13Speaker 4: upside that, you know what I mean, Like it didn't
- 42:15Speaker 4: make business sense, like if I want to financially who
- 42:18Speaker 4: I was probably making paper other places. The everage person
- 42:22Speaker 4: probably couldn't even support it. It would have been shut down.
- 42:25Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying, Because I'm taking paper that
- 42:27Speaker 4: I'm making other places keeping it open, you know what
- 42:31Speaker 4: I'm saying. But at once I gave it to I
- 42:33Speaker 4: stepped away from it and gave it to like my family,
- 42:36Speaker 4: you know, my mama, and sistered them to run it.
- 42:39Speaker 4: You know they turned it around. How they turned around?
- 42:42Speaker 4: You had to ask them.
- 42:43Speaker 2: Now, you know what I'm saying, Congrect, what do you
- 42:46Speaker 2: think that?
- 42:47Speaker 3: What do you think the proud obviously restaurant wanted the
- 42:48Speaker 3: hardest businesses to be successful in period. I think like
- 42:51Speaker 3: ninety in the restaurants fell. But from your perspective as
- 42:54Speaker 3: a restaurant toy, you said you was actually hands on.
- 42:56Speaker 4: What was the issues that you was having? I think
- 42:59Speaker 4: for one, you got to like to be successful a restaurant,
- 43:03Speaker 4: if it's not a chain, I think you have to
- 43:05Speaker 4: be there. You have to be in there, like you
- 43:08Speaker 4: know what I'm saying, you have to like have a
- 43:10Speaker 4: true sense of you know, everything that's happening and everybody
- 43:14Speaker 4: that's working for you. It's one of the biggest stealth businesses.
- 43:17Speaker 4: You have a hair. You know me, I call myself
- 43:21Speaker 4: like just hiring the best people, you know what I'm saying.
- 43:25Speaker 4: So I wasn't running myself, but I'm like, Okay, this
- 43:27Speaker 4: person worked for this restaurant, I'm gonna pay you more,
- 43:29Speaker 4: and this person work at her and I'm gonna pay
- 43:32Speaker 4: you more. And I'm trying to symbol the best tream
- 43:35Speaker 4: to run it. And it still won't work, you know
- 43:37Speaker 4: what I mean. Like I'm paying like I'm paying people
- 43:40Speaker 4: more than what they was getting paid at their job
- 43:43Speaker 4: to come run the restaurant because I'm thinking that's the
- 43:44Speaker 4: right thing to do. You feel me, But it ain't work.
- 43:48Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying That my family went in
- 43:50Speaker 4: there and I don't know, you know what they did.
- 43:52Speaker 4: They they three sixty that you're gonna turn it around,
- 43:55Speaker 4: and you know they ain't needed nothing for me since
- 43:58Speaker 4: you feel me and up and running move may years
- 44:03Speaker 4: was just them.
- 44:03Speaker 5: So you got the investment inside of the MLS, you
- 44:06Speaker 5: got the restaurant or other things that interest you in
- 44:09Speaker 5: terms of investing in, like real estate or even a
- 44:12Speaker 5: stock market things like that.
- 44:14Speaker 4: Yeah, I do. I do a little bit of all that,
- 44:16Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying. Like I've been into real estate,
- 44:18Speaker 4: real estate, Like I love real estate, you know what
- 44:21Speaker 4: I'm saying.
- 44:23Speaker 2: I like that.
- 44:23Speaker 4: I do a lot of real estate, also invest in,
- 44:27Speaker 4: like I got some take investments, some salad investments. We play.
- 44:31Speaker 4: We got money in the market. You know, we try
- 44:34Speaker 4: to like move it around.
- 44:35Speaker 2: First of all.
- 44:35Speaker 4: Yeah, Phase Clan you involved with that, Yeah, early too,
- 44:40Speaker 4: I was in the early talk about that. You know
- 44:42Speaker 4: what's so crazy is that Phase Clan. I never heard
- 44:44Speaker 4: of it before.
- 44:45Speaker 3: My son he's twelve and he's like a gamer and
- 44:49Speaker 3: he's the one that actually told me about Phase Clan
- 44:51Speaker 3: and Phase Jarvis and all these different people. And I
- 44:54Speaker 3: started to research him and I really like that business
- 44:58Speaker 3: model and just the name Phase remind me like Wu
- 45:00Speaker 3: Tang Clan. Well, it's like different people. They all got
- 45:03Speaker 3: their own personalities, but they're all under one roof. So yeah,
- 45:07Speaker 3: talk about your Yeah, how you found those guys and
- 45:10Speaker 3: what made you want to be involved in that.
- 45:12Speaker 4: I think as you moving around. Right. You probably heard
- 45:14Speaker 4: people say that like hip hop music, it's a vehicle. Right,
- 45:18Speaker 4: if you're smart, you understanding what we're doing. The music
- 45:20Speaker 4: is a vehicle to get other places. Right. So example,
- 45:27Speaker 4: I was doing promo with the artist block Boy JB.
- 45:31Speaker 4: I was doing promo with him and we had to
- 45:33Speaker 4: go do some content at some influencers house. This house
- 45:37Speaker 4: happened to be if Ice Clan house. You know what
- 45:40Speaker 4: I'm saying. I think in a YouTube or rights gun
- 45:42Speaker 4: or something like that. It was a big YouTuber And
- 45:45Speaker 4: so we in there and when we get to her,
- 45:47Speaker 4: I'm kind of like amazed by they set up and
- 45:50Speaker 4: they got like three mansions, two three mansions side by side,
- 45:53Speaker 4: but they using them as like content houses. I hadn't
- 45:56Speaker 4: never seen nothing like that. I'm like, so what y'all
- 45:59Speaker 4: do now? All over? So I got, you know, me
- 46:03Speaker 4: being a hustler, my intennas jump up immediately.
- 46:06Speaker 2: Who would manage you?
- 46:08Speaker 4: Let me get your information? And it kind of started
- 46:11Speaker 4: their like and it started from me just taking an
- 46:13Speaker 4: artist to do some promo, and it led into me
- 46:16Speaker 4: getting the contact or they managers and having means and
- 46:20Speaker 4: meets with them later later on and again for a
- 46:23Speaker 4: surface world. I end up investing in them, you know
- 46:26Speaker 4: what I'm saying. But it really just how it started
- 46:28Speaker 4: me me going to do promo on some music, shit hustles, ambition.
- 46:33Speaker 5: So it's it's very interesting that we got interrupted by
- 46:36Speaker 5: Mike Rubin and we're here in the Right Nations Office.
- 46:39Speaker 2: I want to talk about your social justice that you've
- 46:42Speaker 2: been doing.
- 46:42Speaker 5: I know you Jay recently, y y'all, y'all called off
- 46:45Speaker 5: the suit with the Mississippi State Presitentiary. He talked about
- 46:49Speaker 5: what that was about and some of the improvements that
- 46:52Speaker 5: were happening because of the suit.
- 46:54Speaker 4: I mean, the whole goal is that was to get
- 46:56Speaker 4: improvements in the prison for the prisoners. You know what
- 46:59Speaker 4: I'm saying. That's what it's all about. We're just trying
- 47:01Speaker 4: to make it, you know, you know, make it a
- 47:05Speaker 4: better place for the people that was in Parchment. So
- 47:08Speaker 4: you know, they stepped up and added some programs, some
- 47:12Speaker 4: better health care programs, some mental health programs, and actually
- 47:17Speaker 4: changed a lot of the systems around that was in
- 47:20Speaker 4: there from when we first took action on it, you
- 47:23Speaker 4: know what I'm saying. So, but you know, we still
- 47:25Speaker 4: got to watch it. We still got to watch it
- 47:27Speaker 4: closely and make sure that you know they're doing what
- 47:30Speaker 4: they're supposed to be doing.
- 47:32Speaker 2: What made you want to get involved?
- 47:34Speaker 4: I mean, you know, I come from a family. Anybody
- 47:36Speaker 4: didn't know me like you know my family. I'm like
- 47:40Speaker 4: one of them. I grew up in with my family
- 47:44Speaker 4: being in prisons. So just that the whole subject is uh,
- 47:49Speaker 4: you know, it's a delicate situation to me. I grew
- 47:51Speaker 4: up visiting prisons my whole child life. Going to the
- 47:55Speaker 4: fed joint of her to see my antique, going fed
- 47:57Speaker 4: joint to see my other aunt. Team. My father in prison,
- 48:00Speaker 4: I'm writing him or send him money. My brother in prison,
- 48:03Speaker 4: I'm writing him. I'm going to visit him. So I
- 48:05Speaker 4: always travel in and out of visitations in prison. It's
- 48:09Speaker 4: my family. He's still regular people, O, my loved ones.
- 48:12Speaker 4: They may be doing time, but they still hearmans. You
- 48:15Speaker 4: can't treat them my animals. And you feel me. So
- 48:19Speaker 4: it's suposed to be prison, supposed to be for rehabilitation, right,
- 48:23Speaker 4: you know what I mean, ain't for what we see
- 48:24Speaker 4: happening in parlishment. So when we see the videos come
- 48:27Speaker 4: out and the pictures of what was happening in in partment.
- 48:32Speaker 4: It's like here, man conditions. So yeah, you know they
- 48:36Speaker 4: could be you know, one of our brothers, cousins, uncles, daddies,
- 48:40Speaker 4: you know, anybody that end up in prison for anything. Yeah.
- 48:45Speaker 5: I only asked because I mean, there's plenty of artists
- 48:48Speaker 5: who could be doing something, but very few do do something.
- 48:52Speaker 5: And so I was just when I'm reading it, when
- 48:54Speaker 5: I first heard the news about it a couple of
- 48:56Speaker 5: years ago, I might stand up.
- 48:58Speaker 2: I mean, which is your character in Mississippi?
- 49:02Speaker 4: Like I beg Yard. You know, you cross over one
- 49:05Speaker 4: street and you know you probably still think you're in Memphis,
- 49:08Speaker 4: but you're actually in Misissippi, you know what I mean.
- 49:10Speaker 4: It's like I tried to stay the area, so I
- 49:13Speaker 4: actually had partners and stuff that was done time in
- 49:15Speaker 4: in prison before you know what I man, like, I
- 49:18Speaker 4: know people that's actually done time in the same prison.
- 49:23Speaker 3: Let me ask you this as far as AI. What's
- 49:27Speaker 3: your thoughts on AI? You know, we see a lot
- 49:29Speaker 3: of AI crazy use it now.
- 49:32Speaker 4: I'm still trying to like understand it fully.
- 49:36Speaker 5: Uh.
- 49:37Speaker 4: I tried to use it action on this mixtape. Oh yeah,
- 49:41Speaker 4: like your voice, Yeah, it's a it's a it's a
- 49:43Speaker 4: skit on this mixtape where it's a news person talking
- 49:47Speaker 4: on the front of the song with me and Money
- 49:48Speaker 4: bay Yo called My Business. We tried to get a
- 49:52Speaker 4: how to do that. It ain't turn out right though.
- 49:55Speaker 4: It sounded too like robotic in uh, like a computer.
- 49:58Speaker 4: But we actually tried to do it, like it's like
- 50:01Speaker 4: if it's a it's a talking part in Man and
- 50:04Speaker 4: My Business, like a news reporter and driveway front of you.
- 50:08Speaker 4: It's another talking part in there. We tried to do
- 50:12Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying on the quick till we're like, yo,
- 50:13Speaker 4: we just we just get ai to do it, you
- 50:16Speaker 4: know what I mean. So we tried it, but it
- 50:17Speaker 4: ain't turn out the proper way, so we had to
- 50:20Speaker 4: end getting somebody to actually do it. What's your thoughts
- 50:23Speaker 4: on the throw? I just think I think it's like
- 50:25Speaker 4: next world, like next what they call, you know, way
- 50:29Speaker 4: up three this shit maybe way up four or five
- 50:32Speaker 4: or know, like just what you're seeing doing it, it's
- 50:34Speaker 4: kind of scary or the idea that you know it
- 50:38Speaker 4: makes you wonder like like what gonna be like the
- 50:42Speaker 4: need for people, you know what I mean, Like if
- 50:46Speaker 4: you can put these if you can go on AI
- 50:48Speaker 4: and get anything done. I was telling somebody in my company,
- 50:52Speaker 4: like we was just hiring. Somebody ask me, I wanted
- 50:54Speaker 4: to read the resume. I said, nah, like they could
- 50:57Speaker 4: have done this shit on AI. You feel you know
- 51:01Speaker 4: what I'm saying, Like they could have just you can
- 51:04Speaker 4: write me a resume say I was the best so
- 51:06Speaker 4: and so from this you know what I'm saying. And
- 51:09Speaker 4: the best piece of paper can you print out? Can
- 51:12Speaker 4: come out right? So I'm like, no, you gotta just
- 51:14Speaker 4: you know, we gotta interviewroom, we gotta put them in
- 51:16Speaker 4: our face and we gotta we gotta fill it out
- 51:20Speaker 4: like that because it's different tools to play without her. Now,
- 51:24Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying, you can get tricked. You
- 51:26Speaker 4: can get tricked easily. And I don't know, maybe it
- 51:29Speaker 4: take like make shit seem more lazier, because yeah, I mean,
- 51:34Speaker 4: you get the ancles, so you get the work done.
- 51:36Speaker 5: You can too easily. Almost it's gonna be more efficient.
- 51:41Speaker 5: But even from it, I mean, I think that's dope
- 51:43Speaker 5: that you tried to incorporate, which means that you were
- 51:45Speaker 5: educated on it because you knew what it was. I
- 51:48Speaker 5: wondered from your standpoint as the exact of the label.
- 51:51Speaker 5: Are you educating the artists about like what tohead for them?
- 51:56Speaker 2: Right?
- 51:56Speaker 5: Because even from a standpoint like if I wanted to
- 51:58Speaker 5: create a verse that sounded like you and put that out,
- 52:01Speaker 5: I'm not sure how you stop me, right because it
- 52:02Speaker 5: technically isn't That's what I'm saying for him, you can't
- 52:06Speaker 5: stop it. And so like if that song now becomes
- 52:09Speaker 5: something that becomes ahead social media to you know know, took.
- 52:12Speaker 4: Me, and so I'm just trying to figure out how
- 52:15Speaker 4: we eat off of that's like how do we get
- 52:19Speaker 4: okay what you're doing? What what's that part? You know
- 52:23Speaker 4: what I mean? You know, I'm hustle first, I'm trying
- 52:25Speaker 4: to figure out.
- 52:26Speaker 2: Like.
- 52:28Speaker 4: You know, to me, I got an issue with it.
- 52:31Speaker 4: If you're doing it, we can't get cutting. And then
- 52:33Speaker 4: we got to issue. Know what I'm saying, if you
- 52:35Speaker 4: buzz it down, figure out, figure how to buzz it down,
- 52:39Speaker 4: and go to work. You know what I'm saying. You
- 52:41Speaker 4: can figure how to buzz it down, Like y'all go
- 52:42Speaker 4: to work. You know what I'm saying.
- 52:45Speaker 5: It's gonna be an interesting time, right, because that that
- 52:47Speaker 5: that's one of those things that it would be a
- 52:49Speaker 5: copyright claim. But who who are you facing that that
- 52:53Speaker 5: charge with, right, the person who created or the AI
- 52:56Speaker 5: that created.
- 52:56Speaker 4: I think they're trying to figure that out right now.
- 52:58Speaker 4: I think it's a lot of bad food about trying
- 53:01Speaker 4: to figure out, like, you know, how they're gonna work,
- 53:04Speaker 4: like what was right? What was wrong was? You know
- 53:07Speaker 4: what I'm saying, Who you reach out to? How you
- 53:08Speaker 4: get compensated.
- 53:10Speaker 5: So the one thing that artists do have an their
- 53:12Speaker 5: advantage is that AI can't, well not yet, can't do
- 53:16Speaker 5: a live show, right, Like that's one of those things
- 53:18Speaker 5: that that happened ten years ago for exactly I'm just saying,
- 53:23Speaker 5: as I said, yet I'm saying it's not going to happen.
- 53:26Speaker 5: It hasn't happened yet. So they still have that to
- 53:28Speaker 5: their advantage. But what we're seeing now is that a
- 53:30Speaker 5: lot of times when people are going on tours and
- 53:32Speaker 5: we're seeing people's reaction to the live show has changed, right,
- 53:38Speaker 5: ticket sales have changed over over the past couple of years,
- 53:41Speaker 5: COVID has affected that. What are your thoughts about having
- 53:44Speaker 5: an artist being ready to go out on a tour,
- 53:46Speaker 5: being opening that for a tour, how do you prepare
- 53:48Speaker 5: them for that moment based on.
- 53:49Speaker 4: Like the data that y'all got, like an artist being
- 53:51Speaker 4: an opening egg on the tool.
- 53:53Speaker 3: Yeah, like getting them ready to go out on tour,
- 53:55Speaker 3: or yeah, how do you feel out toring period? Because
- 53:57Speaker 3: so the talk is that touring is slowing down right
- 53:59Speaker 3: now for a lot of artists.
- 54:01Speaker 4: Man, I look at it like this, right, It's like,
- 54:04Speaker 4: you know, it's just adjustments, bro, It's a hustleer. You
- 54:07Speaker 4: gotta know how to adjust, you know what I mean. Like,
- 54:10Speaker 4: you know, every day ain't gonna be the bench day,
- 54:14Speaker 4: you know what I mean, It come with it, like
- 54:16Speaker 4: you gotta adjust, you know what I mean. Sometimes it's
- 54:18Speaker 4: gonna be your tour. Sometimes it's somebody else too. You
- 54:22Speaker 4: open it up or you direct support. You just got
- 54:25Speaker 4: to know how to adjust and get the business done,
- 54:28Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying. And I think the whole
- 54:32Speaker 4: thing with them saying tickets sales decline and or it's
- 54:36Speaker 4: at a good time for touring, But it's still people,
- 54:40Speaker 4: you know what I mean, It's still people in the building.
- 54:42Speaker 4: So what's the difference you got? Maybe it's eight thousand
- 54:45Speaker 4: instead of twelve. Adjust the numbers, adjust the venue side,
- 54:51Speaker 4: keep going, you know what I mean like to me
- 54:54Speaker 4: to go back in the beginning, like I ain't no,
- 54:56Speaker 4: I ain't no complaining, Like, but see what it is
- 54:58Speaker 4: and then let's keep because you know, years ago hip
- 55:06Speaker 4: hop was down, then hip hop was the number one
- 55:08Speaker 4: jump the music now went down a little bit more,
- 55:12Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying like that, But you're gonna
- 55:14Speaker 4: have adjustments in business. In any business, if you was
- 55:18Speaker 4: selling doughnuts T shirt, you probably have a year where
- 55:22Speaker 4: you would a business up thirty percent. You may have
- 55:25Speaker 4: a year with a business down ten percent. It's just
- 55:28Speaker 4: that's like a it's a cause of business. So I
- 55:33Speaker 4: think people just overreacting on the shit basically, you know
- 55:36Speaker 4: what I'm saying. I think you know, it's a lot
- 55:38Speaker 4: of tours out. You know, everybody have been excited to
- 55:41Speaker 4: get outside, been we've been down COVID. Yeah, you know
- 55:45Speaker 4: what I mean. But I don't think I think it's
- 55:47Speaker 4: just to me, it's a regular schedule program and it's
- 55:50Speaker 4: just one of those things where you know, next year
- 55:52Speaker 4: everything may be back up.
- 55:54Speaker 5: Is that still from an artist standpoint to when we're
- 55:57Speaker 5: talking about revenues of income for an artist?
- 56:00Speaker 2: Toy? Is that still number one above everything? Else or
- 56:03Speaker 2: all the other things like maybe sponsorship or ad deals
- 56:06Speaker 2: or something like that that they have.
- 56:07Speaker 4: I don't know who you is, I think, but I
- 56:09Speaker 4: also I always think touring is like probably the fastest
- 56:13Speaker 4: money to get because you can get it every weekend,
- 56:16Speaker 4: two three times a weekend right now, right here, right
- 56:20Speaker 4: So I think touring is going to always be like
- 56:22Speaker 4: a big, a big income revenue for artists.
- 56:27Speaker 3: Yeah, a lot of artists can have issues IRS, so
- 56:31Speaker 3: the accounting might have taken advantage of them or business manager.
- 56:33Speaker 4: You ever have any issues? No, I had, I had
- 56:37Speaker 4: them type I ain't had them type of issues, but
- 56:39Speaker 4: I did have I didn't have them type of issues
- 56:43Speaker 4: were it affected me, But I did have a I
- 56:45Speaker 4: call it, I want to call it. I call it
- 56:48Speaker 4: a lack of information in the beginning when it came
- 56:53Speaker 4: to that, when it came to that area, you know,
- 56:56Speaker 4: unfortunately for me, because you know, I'm I'm good with
- 57:01Speaker 4: my money, I'm good with saving money, I'm good with
- 57:03Speaker 4: keeping money. That even when I learned the information, I
- 57:06Speaker 4: was in position to handle it, you know what I mean,
- 57:08Speaker 4: because we grew up. We grew up, I grew up.
- 57:13Speaker 4: Maybe they should teach this in school too, because I
- 57:16Speaker 4: grew up thinking when you when we heard taxes, my
- 57:19Speaker 4: mom and them got tax money. That's when we got
- 57:22Speaker 4: new Jordans, we got new outfits, we got new joints.
- 57:25Speaker 4: It was a celebration when it was tax time. Waiting
- 57:29Speaker 4: on tax time, that was better than Christmas, you know
- 57:31Speaker 4: what I'm saying. So I didn't know, you know, even
- 57:35Speaker 4: in my early stages to getting money, I didn't know
- 57:38Speaker 4: we had to pay. So it ain't that I didn't
- 57:40Speaker 4: want to pay or that I w wasn't pay. I
- 57:43Speaker 4: didn't know because a lack of information. They adn't teach
- 57:47Speaker 4: me that in school, you know what I'm saying. Nobody
- 57:49Speaker 4: taught me that in school. When I opened up my
- 57:52Speaker 4: bank and started putting big chicks in the bank, my
- 57:54Speaker 4: bank couldn't tell me I had to pay taxes. I
- 57:56Speaker 4: didn't have a CPA in the beginning, so I didn't
- 57:59Speaker 4: know that right. So for me, I was buying real
- 58:04Speaker 4: estate early, right, and I just happened to get a
- 58:08Speaker 4: letter they say like, yo, we're gonna what they called it,
- 58:11Speaker 4: like seize your property if you gonna pay this. And
- 58:14Speaker 4: I didn't even know you had to pay property taxes
- 58:16Speaker 4: on a house that you had paid cash. Yeah, keep
- 58:19Speaker 4: it mand at this At this time, Brian, I got
- 58:21Speaker 4: ten to fifteen houses I didn't pay cash for that
- 58:25Speaker 4: I done had for four five years that I never
- 58:27Speaker 4: paid property taxes on because I didn't know for five years.
- 58:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't know.
- 58:32Speaker 4: So it's just so happened that I get a letter
- 58:34Speaker 4: and the mail telling me that they won't they gonna
- 58:37Speaker 4: seize the properties if I don't pay these property taxes.
- 58:40Speaker 4: And I get a letter about this, but I you
- 58:41Speaker 4: know what I'm saying. So I hear my lawyer at
- 58:45Speaker 4: the time that wasn't even a tax lawyer. He just
- 58:47Speaker 4: you know, he was a criminal lawyer. Lawyer. I know,
- 58:51Speaker 4: I'm begging the year, you know what I'm saying. So
- 58:53Speaker 4: I hear him like, yo, look me, I need to
- 58:55Speaker 4: seeing these papers. And he sent me to a tax
- 58:59Speaker 4: law you're in a CPA, you know what I mean.
- 59:02Speaker 4: And and I sit down with them and they pretty
- 59:06Speaker 4: much put me on game. You know what I'm saying,
- 59:08Speaker 4: like this, how this worked? Just how this goal? You
- 59:10Speaker 4: know what I mean? Go get your statements, we look
- 59:12Speaker 4: at everything together, just with your just how to go.
- 59:16Speaker 4: Luckily for you, you have money yeah, I had the
- 59:18Speaker 4: paper to handle it. But I think I think I
- 59:25Speaker 4: do think that's a thing though, because I do, I
- 59:27Speaker 4: do think that's a thing where depending on where you
- 59:30Speaker 4: how you grow up, you may not even know that exists.
- 59:34Speaker 4: And then you ain't good with the paper and by
- 59:36Speaker 4: the time it comes to your front doorstep, you ain't
- 59:40Speaker 4: in position. You in the hole. From there you and
- 59:43Speaker 4: you deep in the hole. So one of the things
- 59:45Speaker 4: I do, you know, one of the things I do,
- 59:48Speaker 4: we make sure we tell the artist that first time
- 59:51Speaker 4: we get your dollar. You know what I'm saying, we
- 59:53Speaker 4: give you money, yo, make sure you're doing this, and
- 59:56Speaker 4: we even advise certain thing makes you get you a CPA.
- 59:59Speaker 4: Make sure you get you this. Make sure do you
- 1:00:01Speaker 4: set them up with one or you have to give
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: them a CPA to it? No, no, no, no, I
- 1:00:05Speaker 4: don't ever want to give an artist nothing like that
- 1:00:08Speaker 4: because I don't never want to be like, oh that
- 1:00:11Speaker 4: your people. You know what I'm saying, the show people
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: and the money ain't right, And I ain't doing that,
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: I wonder. I mean, I'm giving you the information like, yo,
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: you need this, you need this, you need this and
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: this why And I'm giving them the example, the same thing.
- 1:00:24Speaker 4: I just told y'all, man, this what happened to me.
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying, I ain't knowing. You know,
- 1:00:29Speaker 4: it's what happens. So make sure this don't happen to you.
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: Let me just ask my fault.
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: So we have our friend who's an executive at a label,
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: and he brought the idea where you know, in the NBA,
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: in the NFL, they have like the Rookie Symposium when
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: you get drafted, Like all of the rookies come to
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: like Vegas for like the weekend, and they give them
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: all different types of lessons, and like one of the lessons,
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: like they get like a financial advisors to like educate them.
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: A lot of people don't listen, but at least they
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: got like who camp. So he was saying that they
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: should have like a symposium for all like artists, when
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: you first get a record deal, you got to go
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: through this. At least you can say that you wasn't
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: you didn't know, Like I mean, like now you make
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: a conscious decision not to pay taxes, that's on you.
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: But it's like you know, like you say, you're taking
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: a kid eighteen seventeen years old. I never believe even
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: had a job. Yeah, and you know how you really
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: expect them to know about handling all of this. So
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: what's your thoughts on on that idea?
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: No, I agree with that. I agree with that. I
- 1:01:21Speaker 4: actually was. I actually was talking to or somebody I
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: know they do management, and he was telling me that
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: they don't even take clients unless part of their contract
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: is you have to have a CPA for them to
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: even do business with you. Like, we're not even doing
- 1:01:39Speaker 4: straight up business with just us and you when they
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: come to financial like, we want to deal with your CPA,
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: so it's always clean and straight up from the from
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: the beginning. That's suthing. I actually may start implicating in
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: my contracts, you know what I'm saying, because I think
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: it's important. I just think, like you know, I do
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: non music related jobs for my artists now, I mean
- 1:02:04Speaker 4: like stuff like that we talk about to help them
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: do whatever it is. If you're trying to buy a
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: house or colla, like we involved in anything you allow
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: us to be involved in. You know what I'm saying,
- 1:02:15Speaker 4: because we look at you as family and we don't
- 1:02:17Speaker 4: want you to do it wrong. We don't want you
- 1:02:19Speaker 4: to pay more because you didn't have the right information
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: to do it. We don't want nobody to scam you,
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying. We don't want you to
- 1:02:26Speaker 4: run into these hurdles that we probably already ran through.
- 1:02:30Speaker 4: We already paid for the mistake, so we won't try
- 1:02:32Speaker 4: to bypass you past those mistakes. So I work with
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: all my artists on stuff like that. It's none marriage related.
- 1:02:39Speaker 4: That ain't no nothing, not how older do in my contract.
- 1:02:43Speaker 4: That's just like from the you know, the goodness of
- 1:02:46Speaker 4: our heart. I want to see, you know, our family
- 1:02:49Speaker 4: do it the right way. So I do think if
- 1:02:52Speaker 4: they was putting it, you know in the record labels
- 1:02:55Speaker 4: a part of the structures or you know, in the
- 1:02:58Speaker 4: schools again, because you know, I ain't no you know
- 1:03:01Speaker 4: I ain't no dumb nigga. You feel me like you
- 1:03:03Speaker 4: feel like I made age in school, you know what
- 1:03:06Speaker 4: I'm saying, And I didn't know what about it. Yeah,
- 1:03:08Speaker 4: so I wouldn't even say, like you know what I'm saying,
- 1:03:10Speaker 4: how they're trying to try to play on us, like,
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: oh you're from a certain place. You don't know now,
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: you know, I'm want of the ones to he age.
- 1:03:17Speaker 4: I still didn't know about it.
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's a fact.
- 1:03:20Speaker 5: I mean it's something that we're working on as well
- 1:03:22Speaker 5: to get curriculum put into the school district starting here
- 1:03:25Speaker 5: in New York City, but hopefully it would be something
- 1:03:28Speaker 5: that goes throughout the United States and eventually throughout the world.
- 1:03:31Speaker 5: I was wondering this though, from a standpoint of being
- 1:03:33Speaker 5: an independent artist and having the margins when you're independent
- 1:03:37Speaker 5: look a little different. What's your thoughts about streaming in
- 1:03:40Speaker 5: this day and age and having you know, people rely
- 1:03:43Speaker 5: on streaming as a source of income because again, we
- 1:03:46Speaker 5: don't really know how much one stream is equaled, or
- 1:03:48Speaker 5: we don't know how much a million streams is equal.
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: So what's your thoughts about that?
- 1:03:52Speaker 5: Because we've seen you put out plenty of hits, right,
- 1:03:55Speaker 5: like multi platinum hits, So what's your thoughts on streaming
- 1:03:57Speaker 5: in this day and age.
- 1:04:00Speaker 4: I mean, I actually like streaming better than how it was,
- 1:04:05Speaker 4: you know, when it was just physical city because I
- 1:04:08Speaker 4: think that for multiple reasons, I think that the replay
- 1:04:13Speaker 4: value of a record today, I think it's way more
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: karen and stays up than when it was on a
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: physical city. I feel like if you scratched up your
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: city and lost it or lost it? Was you really
- 1:04:25Speaker 4: going back to the store to buy the cit over
- 1:04:27Speaker 4: and over and over again. I feel like you don't
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: got to deal with it. You just pick up your
- 1:04:30Speaker 4: phone and you can listen to that song from ten
- 1:04:33Speaker 4: years ago whenever you feel like it, you know what
- 1:04:36Speaker 4: I mean. As the world gets smarter, also people get lazier.
- 1:04:41Speaker 4: So I don't think a court hard, goutted fan is
- 1:04:45Speaker 4: going to buy the city ten times over. You know
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: what I'm saying.
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: But I think you will listen to it on your.
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: Phone whenever you feel like you know you get in
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: their moved. You can go back twenty years if you
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: want to, right, I heard it at your fingertip. So
- 1:04:58Speaker 4: I like the idea of streaming. I think it's been
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: some research too. It showed the catalog performance performs better streaming.
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: I think, you know what I'm saying. So I ain't
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: got no issue with streaming. I actually like it. I
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: think we just got to keep, you know, keep keep
- 1:05:17Speaker 4: working on it to make sure we get our fresh
- 1:05:20Speaker 4: sure of you know, the business Off of.
- 1:05:23Speaker 5: Speaking of fast share, just a quick follow up. I
- 1:05:26Speaker 5: wonder if the good folks at Instagram ever reached out
- 1:05:29Speaker 5: to you after you put out this on d M.
- 1:05:32Speaker 4: No Snapchat either, Oh my gosh, Snapchat.
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: I ain't.
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: I ain't never got a dollar.
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: You feel a lot, a lot of swimming happening, man,
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: I feel like it.
- 1:05:48Speaker 4: Owe me life. O A nice you know what I'm saying.
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: The check man, now we appreciate you.
- 1:05:58Speaker 4: Man.
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: Before we leave, any words of advice for any you know, entrepreneur,
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: anybody that you know might be looking at you for guidance,
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: like you know, any daily routines or anything that you
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: want to just kind of, you know, give some words
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: of encouragement anything.
- 1:06:16Speaker 4: I just say, you know, whatever you're doing, do it,
- 1:06:18Speaker 4: you know what I mean, Like, do it for real.
- 1:06:20Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying. Like time is the most
- 1:06:22Speaker 4: valuable thing in the world. That's your biggest asset, So
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: don't play with it. If you're gonna do it, do
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: it for real. You know what I'm saying.
- 1:06:29Speaker 5: Do it.
- 1:06:30Speaker 4: You know, even if if people don't think you can
- 1:06:33Speaker 4: do it, you know what I mean, prove them wrong
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: and and achieve whatever it is you want to achieve.
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: And uh, test yourself or challenge yourself, challenge yourself to
- 1:06:45Speaker 4: do more or leave a bigger impact, you know what
- 1:06:50Speaker 4: I mean. That's what I'm all right now, trying to
- 1:06:52Speaker 4: build legacy. Everything is about the impact, how much how
- 1:06:55Speaker 4: many people I can help, how many people I can touch,
- 1:06:58Speaker 4: you know, while I'm on my journey to do what
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: I'm trying to do, how many people I can bring
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: with me, how many lives we can change? You know
- 1:07:05Speaker 4: what I'm saying along the way. Yeah, keep me pushing.
- 1:07:11Speaker 4: Appreciate you. Oh, I got a question for y'all. Do it?
- 1:07:14Speaker 4: I gotta question yase. Y'all left me off their list too.
- 1:07:17Speaker 4: You saw the list I was gonna I was gonna
- 1:07:20Speaker 4: bring up there. It was it was audible mention.
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: He was definitely in the conversation so that anybody was
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: saying to me there that I'm like, I ain't what
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: are you all right?
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: So let's talk about this then? So what's your top ten?
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: And this was actually he was involved in this.
- 1:07:37Speaker 4: It was us three.
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: Yes, we called in a few friends.
- 1:07:40Speaker 4: Who do we have on that list? We had third
- 1:07:42Speaker 4: Man at number one? We did.
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: We had Jay can we pull this list off? Doctor?
- 1:07:47Speaker 4: Please?
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: We had JD were very important. V was in there.
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: I'm happy that it reached.
- 1:07:57Speaker 4: You pulled it off. I pull it off. Here we go,
- 1:08:01Speaker 4: this is the list, we'll put it on on the graphics.
- 1:08:03Speaker 4: So we did.
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: Everybody was on their top ten rapper list, top fifty
- 1:08:06Speaker 3: rapper list, so we wanted to be different and we
- 1:08:08Speaker 3: put together a top ten list of hip hop label
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: CEOs number ten, Marion Suge Knight, any argument then Knight
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: number ten, number nine, Jermaine Dupri number eight, Dame Dash
- 1:08:27Speaker 3: number seven, La Read number six, Master P number five,
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: Russell Simmons number four, Doctor Dre number three, jay Z
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: number two, Diddy, and number one was Birdman, Bryan.
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: Williams Baby but that counts as baby and Slim.
- 1:08:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: Yeah, but we did have or we did have an
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: honorable man.
- 1:08:47Speaker 4: We did arrange label.
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: We had fifteen and then everybody was like, nah, it
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: has to be ten. So the CMG was on there.
- 1:08:55Speaker 5: You were on there, mentioned yeah, yeah, because well we
- 1:08:58Speaker 5: also had quality control on the well you see, because
- 1:09:01Speaker 5: it was a lot of like, wait, through, what's quality control?
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: They were on there. If you didn't say, was in
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: honorable mention as well? Yeah, was in there as well.
- 1:09:09Speaker 4: Know, I respect all them. I feel like, uh, you know,
- 1:09:16Speaker 4: I feel like p P probably should have been higher.
- 1:09:20Speaker 4: You put him, he's number five, so you put people
- 1:09:24Speaker 4: about people five. I think.
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: Russell Simmons in front of him, Doctor Dre, jy Z Puffin,
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: and Birdman.
- 1:09:32Speaker 4: Yeah, who would be your top five? P most definitely
- 1:09:35Speaker 4: got to be the top bird I feel like, you know,
- 1:09:39Speaker 4: I just feel like in the South we hustled different
- 1:09:42Speaker 4: and I feel like we had bigger challenges, you know
- 1:09:45Speaker 4: what I'm saying. So see what p accomplished. To see
- 1:09:49Speaker 4: what you know, Master p accomplished, See what Birdman and
- 1:09:53Speaker 4: Slim accomplished. You know what I mean. I don't think
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: y'all ain't have a rap a lot of them.
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: I was gonna say, princes in the thing if we
- 1:10:01Speaker 3: could just be so all right. Sue Knight, I felt
- 1:10:04Speaker 3: like he had the most powerful record label, but it
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: was for a very short period of time. When you
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: look at Snoop, Doctor Dre and Tupac, it's kind of
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: difficult to go against. And he revolutionized the game as
- 1:10:16Speaker 3: far as that independent structure on a very large scale.
- 1:10:20Speaker 3: Jermaine Dupriez underrated, very underrated because he has a laun consistency.
- 1:10:25Speaker 5: I got super respected producer too though, right that's why
- 1:10:29Speaker 5: in a songwriter because he's a producer.
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: But he's an exact too.
- 1:10:32Speaker 5: So some people argued, yes, more of his catalog might
- 1:10:36Speaker 5: be R and B, but people forget a lot of
- 1:10:38Speaker 5: the hip hop that he's done.
- 1:10:39Speaker 4: He dead lot, Yeah, yeah he yeah, successful artists. Yeah,
- 1:10:43Speaker 4: Dame Dash changed the game.
- 1:10:44Speaker 5: They will arguing that one too, because we should have
- 1:10:47Speaker 5: maybe had put Jay together, but we separated.
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: Ja because had a Jay Dame. I loved Dame and depth,
- 1:10:53Speaker 3: but it kind of ended after Rockefeller. Jay is still
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: twenty years later and still you know what I'm saying.
- 1:10:59Speaker 3: So and l A readers, master P, l A Red
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: we took from the face to him come in He's
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: we start the face, but we go to death jam
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: to epics, so we had to put learned.
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: I learned a lot from l A. When I said
- 1:11:15Speaker 4: I want going When I said I want gonna rock
- 1:11:17Speaker 4: with a major again, I was I was standing on
- 1:11:20Speaker 4: that and l A. Reid was the person that made
- 1:11:22Speaker 4: me like start back working with a major. So I
- 1:11:25Speaker 4: doesn't a label deal with epic with l A. You
- 1:11:30Speaker 4: know what I mean? And and uh, I learned a
- 1:11:33Speaker 4: lot from l A.
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: So we said, master P he's he A lot of
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: people said, like he should have been much higher, but
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: he did have a hell of a run.
- 1:11:44Speaker 9: But it was shorter P master P, shorter Sort.
- 1:11:56Speaker 10: His wife man master P putting that with fifty lent
- 1:12:02Speaker 10: from like with like good nineties selects nine, maybe maybe
- 1:12:07Speaker 10: two thousand.
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: But the reason, but that's what I'm saying, that was
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: because of the successive cash money.
- 1:12:12Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying. Two though, I study this ship
- 1:12:16Speaker 4: this like it's like class. To me, what I'm saying
- 1:12:19Speaker 4: like this, I looked at everybody's store. I watched everybody
- 1:12:22Speaker 4: any if you put out any story, we wrote, any book.
- 1:12:24Speaker 4: I read everybody's store. I watched everybody. You know, everybody,
- 1:12:28Speaker 4: uh went up there. I watch where everybody feel it.
- 1:12:31Speaker 4: That's that's homework for me, you know what I'm saying.
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: That's how I learned directly and indirectly. When I say
- 1:12:37Speaker 4: somebody like P. To me, it's a difference from you know,
- 1:12:41Speaker 4: if you get it, and I ain't taking nothing from nobody,
- 1:12:43Speaker 4: but to me, you playing with different tools. Meaning it's
- 1:12:48Speaker 4: like if you go into one of your record label
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: was already in New York, right and you and you
- 1:12:54Speaker 4: and the system is there, and you create good music,
- 1:12:57Speaker 4: you already have the system. Or I'm telling you the
- 1:12:59Speaker 4: niggas like Pete created the system from nothing. You know
- 1:13:02Speaker 4: what I'm saying, Like they didn't have they weren't playing
- 1:13:04Speaker 4: with the same tools, you know what I'm saying. They
- 1:13:06Speaker 4: weren't playing with the same tools. And then if you
- 1:13:09Speaker 4: look at the numbers, there was a number triple four
- 1:13:12Speaker 4: or five times and they weren't playing with the same tool.
- 1:13:14Speaker 4: And you know what I'm saying, it's.
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: What's it's different.
- 1:13:20Speaker 5: And we're just talking music about so like they've done
- 1:13:23Speaker 5: out so like he's done a lot of things outside
- 1:13:25Speaker 5: of music, of course, so we were just talking music.
- 1:13:28Speaker 4: Who's your top five CEOs top five? Top five? I'm going, man,
- 1:13:37Speaker 4: I'm going j just because like Jay like it's like
- 1:13:40Speaker 4: what Jay do is Like, are you saying just music?
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: No?
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: No, just for music like record label, CEOs, record label, CEOs,
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: record label c So not what they did outside of music,
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: just what they were able to accomplish.
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: And because it's all the vehicle that that was the part.
- 1:14:04Speaker 4: It's all the vehicle and the impact, it's all the
- 1:14:08Speaker 4: velica and the impact that they brought to the culture.
- 1:14:10Speaker 4: All right, So that's fine. So you know what I'm saying.
- 1:14:12Speaker 4: So you can include outside to your top five CEOs.
- 1:14:16Speaker 4: I go, I go, I go, J and P and
- 1:14:23Speaker 4: J Master P Birdman slim uh h? What else y'all
- 1:14:30Speaker 4: have on the team? Did he did he? That's thirty years?
- 1:14:42Speaker 8: Sure?
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: Did he? Did?
- 1:14:43Speaker 7: He?
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: Want to.
- 1:14:46Speaker 4: Want to say? You can't play with.
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: Wow?
- 1:14:50Speaker 4: You have to think to you you thinking back like big?
- 1:14:57Speaker 4: If you want.
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: The fresh? Did he got to Dre is not in that?
- 1:15:02Speaker 4: It's d.
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: That would be fun Dre Dre m fifty Kendrick Dan Dreck.
- 1:15:12Speaker 4: What man I meant?
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: That's wo whoo?
- 1:15:16Speaker 4: Who we ain't put that was in the tea though.
- 1:15:17Speaker 4: You didn't put yourself friends put yourself. You didn't put.
- 1:15:20Speaker 5: Quality control l a read and we have still roll
- 1:15:23Speaker 5: in there and everybody you didn't put Sure.
- 1:15:25Speaker 4: Night, I'll probably go with there. Five. I'll probably go
- 1:15:29Speaker 4: with that five. And oh see, I feel like I
- 1:15:33Speaker 4: feel like, you know, I feel like when people were
- 1:15:35Speaker 4: sending it to me, they said, I mean I feel
- 1:15:38Speaker 4: like people sending to me. You know, we living in
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: it's two doy twenty three, twenty two. You know people
- 1:15:43Speaker 4: got short memories, right, you know what I mean, people
- 1:15:45Speaker 4: thinking about c MG now that thinking about.
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: Q C now exactly.
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: You know what I mean.
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: That's what I mean.
- 1:15:52Speaker 5: So Bertman responded and said, that's dope, but you need
- 1:15:56Speaker 5: to be on it and quality control needs to be
- 1:15:57Speaker 5: on He.
- 1:15:57Speaker 4: Said, quality control should have been number two. Too far,
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: he took it too far, he did.
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: But they, I mean, but if you're telling like somebody for.
- 1:16:08Speaker 4: If you're talking about in the last you know, yes,
- 1:16:10Speaker 4: for sure, I mean who I don't know who's doing
- 1:16:13Speaker 4: with me and Peter? You pee know what I'm saying.
- 1:16:15Speaker 4: People talk you see it? You know what you got
- 1:16:18Speaker 4: the hottest label? You know, Me and Pete talking, Me
- 1:16:20Speaker 4: and Pete talked like we should have no no, no no.
- 1:16:24Speaker 4: Something we talk about like you know is mutual respective
- 1:16:28Speaker 4: like you know, you know, if one of these younger
- 1:16:33Speaker 4: artists lands with myself for him, you know they got
- 1:16:37Speaker 4: a better shot. Yeah, you know what I'm saying. But
- 1:16:41Speaker 4: that was probably the same as if you if you
- 1:16:44Speaker 4: landed with cash, money or no limit back then you
- 1:16:47Speaker 4: had a better shadow.
- 1:16:48Speaker 5: Rock the Fellow or is there artist artists that y'all
- 1:16:54Speaker 5: were both involved in signing about the sign and they.
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: Went with you.
- 1:17:02Speaker 4: I don't know, you know, you know, everybody be out
- 1:17:04Speaker 4: of the same artist kind of. I'm pretty sure we
- 1:17:06Speaker 4: probably talking to some of the same people at the
- 1:17:09Speaker 4: same time. When I was talking, I was talking to Glow.
- 1:17:12Speaker 4: I feel like, you know, every record label and the
- 1:17:14Speaker 4: music business was talking to him, and I was the
- 1:17:16Speaker 4: last one to talk to him. You know what I'm saying.
- 1:17:20Speaker 4: We did some stuff together, like with forty two dogs.
- 1:17:23Speaker 4: You know, a little baby a part of it, you
- 1:17:25Speaker 4: know what I'm saying. So I look at that, it's like,
- 1:17:27Speaker 4: you know, a little baby from PF you know CC.
- 1:17:31Speaker 4: It's all the same umbrellas. So you know what I'm saying.
- 1:17:36Speaker 3: Now, you're in the hell of a run. So right
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: now you you're the highest label right now. You were saying,
- 1:17:42Speaker 3: of course, where do you rank yourself as all time CEO?
- 1:17:47Speaker 3: Think your top ten?
- 1:17:48Speaker 4: Uh? Yeah, I think we in I think we're in there.
- 1:17:53Speaker 4: But I also think, you know, humbly, I feel like
- 1:17:55Speaker 4: we got a lot more work to do.
- 1:17:57Speaker 3: I like thinking that you just said, you said, ask
- 1:18:00Speaker 3: you about we I said, do you think you're I said,
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: do you think you're top CEO? And you said, I
- 1:18:04Speaker 3: think we are in there. That's very that shows a
