- 0:45Okay, let's just get into everything so Devontae
- 0:48Adams goes back to Cali Myles Garrett stays in

- 0:54comes to quarterback contracts Gino Smith heads

- 1:15That's right, collard greens, biscuits, all that
- 1:18good stuff and more, okay? I am so excited. Listen,
- 1:22you guys understand, I have been waiting. to
- 1:25do this episode because there is so much that
- 1:28we have to do. This might go down as the longest
- 1:32episode by far because we have so much we have
- 1:35to unpack and whatnot. But you already know I
- 1:37have to get into my spell, okay? All of this
- 1:39and more on the 73rd episode of the Football
- 1:41Junkies podcast, okay? I am your host with the
- 1:44most, okay? I am your chief bag roll dominance,
- 1:47okay? Anything and everything related to the
- 1:49bag and more, okay? I am your chief head of the
- 1:52table. Everything related to the draft everything
- 1:56related to mock draft trades rumors you name
- 1:59it I cover it all of that and more okay, but
- 2:01guess what I am all These things and more okay,
- 2:04but guess what I am your GM who currently is
- 2:07not on a team right now But don't you worry about
- 2:10it, okay? Don't you worry about okay? Because
- 2:13guess what the most important tile that you must
- 2:15remember my fellow junkies is I am your host
- 2:18kale You already know how these things are about
- 2:20to go this might be a three hour episode Let's
- 2:23see if we can get to that point. Maybe we might
- 2:26have some breaking news about Jamar chasing T
- 2:28Higgins signing a deal Maybe we might have some
- 2:30news about Russell Wilson joining the Giants.
- 2:32I was about to say just but the Giants Okay,
- 2:35so you already know how my spills about to get
- 2:37into so guess what on three one, two, three.
- 2:39Let's lock in Alright folks, let's just get into
- 3:08the meat and potatoes of everything that is going
- 3:11on in the league right now So we got so much
- 3:15we got to talk about you don't even realize how
- 3:17much we got to talk about Okay, some hot takes
- 3:19some truth bombs all that and more. Okay, so
- 3:22let's just get into it Devante Adams heads back
- 3:26to the West Coast Okay, I did not expect for
- 3:29him to stay in the East Coast as much as you
- 3:31know, he was saying Oh, I love you know, I love
- 3:33my time. I would love to play for Mike Tomlin
- 3:36That was not going to happen. OK, he was going
- 3:37to go back to the West Coast and so he went to
- 3:40a contender in the Rams. So he signed a two year
- 3:44$44 million deal with the $12 million signing
- 3:47bonus. 26 million guaranteed. OK, now when we
- 3:50look at his stats, 85 exceptions for 1063 receiving
- 3:54yards, eight touchdowns and 12 .5 receiving yards
- 3:57per reception. Now when we look at this, this
- 4:00is a great replacement for Cooper Cup. OK, you're
- 4:02having to get somebody. who is a little bit more
- 4:06productive at this point than what Cooper Cup
- 4:08has been in the last few years. But Devontae
- 4:10Adams has been able to do that with grace, regarded
- 4:14as a top five, top 10 receiver by a lot of defenders.
- 4:18You pair him with Pukka Nakua. That's a deadly
- 4:21combination here, folks. That's a deadly combination.
- 4:25Now, granted, do I still believe that the Rams
- 4:29will probably get another receiver? No. because
- 4:32they brought back, who was it, Tutu Atwell. They
- 4:35have Puka, and now you got Devontae Adams. You
- 4:37also have Tyler Higbee. You have the running
- 4:39back as well. All is really good. All they really
- 4:42have to do now is really just focus on the defense,
- 4:45primarily the secondary. And I think this team
- 4:48could go right back into the NFC Championship.
- 4:51Now, am I saying they can go, you know, to another
- 4:53Super Bowl? Only time will tell. But at this
- 4:56point, they're gonna make some noise. They're
- 4:59gonna do their thing. Now let's talk about this
- 5:02this miles Garrett guy, you know, this is this
- 5:05guy in Cleveland, right? So, you know Everybody
- 5:08was under the impression of miles Garrett was
- 5:10gonna get traded this offseason, you know and
- 5:13for the longest time he was saying he didn't
- 5:15want to be part of Cleveland and he put out this
- 5:17Statement and all that other stuff come to find
- 5:20out the dude just wanted more money That's all
- 5:23the money. So he inks a four -year 160 million
- 5:27dollars point five million guaranteed He had
- 5:2947 tackles, 14 sacks, and 84 quarterback pressures.
- 5:35My take is this. If you wanted more money, just
- 5:38say that. If you were really 10 toes down on
- 5:42your stance of not wanting to play a single down
- 5:45for the Cleveland Browns, you should have stood
- 5:47on it. You never should have backed down when
- 5:50they was offering you more money, but you did.
- 5:52And so now... You're going to be stuck in a crappy
- 5:55situation. You're going to be stuck on a team
- 5:57that is not going to be winning anytime soon.
- 6:00Granted, the money was still clear. The check
- 6:03was still clear. You'll still be able to live
- 6:06the lifestyle that you want, but at what cost?
- 6:09You'll never be able to experience a championship.
- 6:13And no one in their right mind would be willing
- 6:15to make a trade for you at this point because
- 6:18you have this crazy dumb contract. You didn't
- 6:21reset at the market again. The passion for Mario
- 6:24just just got reset it twice You were all happy
- 6:27and smiles and you know, I'm ready to be back
- 6:31and all man. I love these guys Yeah, and nobody
- 6:34cares about that. You was just you was just writing
- 6:37out these fools Come on, man And here I am thinking
- 6:42that miles gear was gonna go to the Eagles. Well
- 6:45Guess I was wrong. Guess we all were wrong at
- 6:49this point. But um at this point This is basically
- 6:53just a move to continue to put butts in seats
- 6:55for Cleveland. I Don't I don't see them, you
- 6:59know making it any farther than what they did
- 7:01in the last two years I'm just gonna be completely
- 7:03honest with you Deshaun Watson was a fail, but
- 7:08the degree of the failure Has to be measured
- 7:13at this point because right now it is starting
- 7:16to be a giant snowball of a disaster And the
- 7:21reason why I say that is because the more years
- 7:25that they push this contract back, the bigger
- 7:28the cap hit that they're gonna have to take at
- 7:30once. If I'm not mistaken, and somebody can fact
- 7:34check me, I have no problem being wrong and whatnot,
- 7:40if they don't do something with his contract
- 7:43next year, you are looking at a potential 90
- 7:47plus million dollar cap hit. I'm sorry, folks.
- 7:52There is not one person that is worth all that
- 7:54money. Not even Tom Brady. And it's no disrespect
- 7:59to him at all. You guys put three mortgages on
- 8:04one player thinking that you were going to get
- 8:08half or maybe just a little bit of what the Texans
- 8:12got out of them. No. You didn't. You didn't get
- 8:16anything close to it. so you were thinking that
- 8:19maybe this upcoming season he was going to play
- 8:22well guess what that's not going to be the case
- 8:24because why he injured his other Achilles so
- 8:27you won't be able to see where he is until next
- 8:30year so while those checks are continuing to
- 8:33go to the Sean Watson's account you are having
- 8:36to figure out what you're going to do moving
- 8:37forward now granted you will be but Tony will
- 8:40say that he's coming back and I think Wyatt Taylor
- 8:44has also said that he's coming back as well.
- 8:48But those are just two people. You still have
- 8:50to figure out what you're going to do with the
- 8:51rest of the team. So I say all that to say this.
- 8:56Yes, they are going to draft a quarterback. Yes,
- 8:59it'll probably be between Cam Ward or Shidora
- 9:02Sanders. But the fact of the matter is, this
- 9:05team, it needs so much that you would essentially
- 9:11need Every single draft pick to hit and I'm not
- 9:16talking about you know, they're doing okay They're
- 9:19doing well like no these guys have to be playing
- 9:22at a pro bowl borderline all pro level all pro
- 9:26level From the gate from the jump That's how
- 9:31bad of a situation they are So if you want to
- 9:35continue to be in pig slop for the rest of your
- 9:38career by all means do it but If it was me, I
- 9:42would have not even touched the very ground that
- 9:45is the Cleveland Browns facility until I was
- 9:49trading. But I'm not Miles Garrett. But we have
- 9:53to talk about a curve ball of a quarterback contract.
- 9:57And that was Josh Allen getting his deal. So
- 10:01Josh Allen inked. six -year 330 million dollar
- 10:06contract 250 million guarantee you'll be making
- 10:1055 million a year a year It's crazy, right? We
- 10:18already know the stats, but I'll just go over
- 10:21them Three thousand seven hundred thirty one
- 10:24passing ours 28 touchdown six picks seven point
- 10:27seven yards per attempt in a sixty three point
- 10:29six completion percentage We all know that he
- 10:31won the MVP. No Marsha's wanted. That's a different
- 10:34story for a different day But the fact of the
- 10:37matter is they realized that they were gonna
- 10:38have to pay him more money. Okay Josh Allen right
- 10:43now is Playing at a level that the bills have
- 10:47never seen before. Okay, when everything is said
- 10:50and done And this is no disrespect to Jim Kelly
- 10:53at all. When everything is said and done, I would
- 10:56not be surprised if Josh Allen is first in every
- 11:00single major quarterback category within the
- 11:04Bills. OK? Granted, this does create some catch
- 11:09space, and this does allow them to create some
- 11:12leverage and whatnot, which is great. But at
- 11:15the same time, The time is still ticking for
- 11:19you all to win a championship Because right now.
- 11:23Yes, you still do have Josh Allen for a while
- 11:25Yes, you grew so and you locked up a few other
- 11:29players great But the fact of the matter is you
- 11:32guys still have yet to get over the hump You
- 11:34guys have yet to been able to beat Patrick my
- 11:38homes. So at some point you gotta win You have
- 11:42to win All right, you want to you want to MVP.
- 11:46Cool. Great. Congratulations So class class class,
- 11:49whatever don't care. But what matters at this
- 11:52point is a championship that is the cherry on
- 11:55top if you win a championship you have Automatically
- 12:00eliminated yourself and put yourself in a category
- 12:04that only bills fans would only dream and want
- 12:08so at this point Yes, celebrate the contract,
- 12:13but at the same time still look at the watch
- 12:16Because time is still ticking and so the longer
- 12:20that this goes The more questions are going to
- 12:23be you know asked For Josh Allen because you
- 12:28have to win a championship at this point It's
- 12:30the same thing with Lamar is the same thing with
- 12:32Joe burrow It's the same thing with any of those
- 12:34other quarterbacks that have that have not won
- 12:37a championship outside of Jalen Hurts and Patrick
- 12:39Holmes Everybody is on the clock because you
- 12:43guys have to win a championship because you guys
- 12:47are playing at levels Though that we have never
- 12:51seen before right granted. We all know in the
- 12:54early 2000s We had you know Tom Brady Big Ben
- 12:57Philip Rivers Drew Brees Payne Manny if I if
- 13:00I've already said it already and a few other
- 13:03quarterbacks But we have never had a group of
- 13:06quarterbacks that have been able To light it
- 13:10up almost every single game. It's almost like
- 13:14a movie Every single Sunday when you watch these
- 13:18quarterbacks from Joe burrow to Patrick Mahomes
- 13:21to Lamar Jackson to even Josh Allen. It's a movie
- 13:25and You want the movie to end on a good foot
- 13:29with them, you know walk into the sunset being
- 13:32a champion But will that happen? I don't know
- 13:36Knew I was forgetting somebody I knew there was
- 13:38somebody else they got paid lately and that was
- 13:40Gregory Russo Gregory Russo got paid He got a
- 13:43back alert as well. So he ain't a four -year
- 13:4680 million dollar deal. Okay His average salary
- 13:50is 20 million his signing bones of 17 .5 million
- 13:53and he's guaranteed 38 .7 million man. I knew
- 13:58I was forgetting somebody but when we look at
- 14:01this Gregory Russo, like I say when we covered
- 14:04the the bills he was going to get paid it was
- 14:08either going to be early or it's going to be
- 14:10late and so the bills actually did the right
- 14:13thing and they paid him early because we all
- 14:16know just like just like what the bangles are
- 14:19going through right now when y 'all take that
- 14:21risk sometimes it benefits you and sometimes
- 14:25it burns you and the bills realize hey listen
- 14:28we cannot take that risk and so when we look
- 14:31at this you know when we look at his stats specifically
- 14:3453 tackles, 8 sacks, 59 quarterback pressures,
- 14:38like this has been a very productive player,
- 14:41okay? This is somebody who is continuing to climb,
- 14:45who is continuing to get better and better each
- 14:48and every year. And so it was only right for
- 14:51the Bills to just give him the deal now. Like
- 14:55this has been a really productive and consistent
- 14:57pass rusher. Now, am I saying he could, you know...
- 15:01get more than eight sacks oh i believe it i believe
- 15:04reverie russo has the potential to get double
- 15:07digit sack seasons it's only up from here folks
- 15:11okay the bills are prioritizing taking care of
- 15:14their players which i love oh so much so now
- 15:18again like i said before with josh allen time's
- 15:21a ticking tick tock take time josh allen tick
- 15:25tock uh Forgot what's supposed to GM Brandon
- 15:29being I think it is Brandon me yet Brandon me
- 15:31time is ticking man Time is ticking. I want y
- 15:34'all to win I want Lamar to win and Josh Allen
- 15:36everybody else to win But we all know there's
- 15:39only one winner out of this entire thing. It's
- 15:41not both teams are winners only one but Let's
- 15:44get into this jeno smith thing. So jeno smith
- 15:45goes to sin city folks All right, so we got to
- 15:48talk about this because it was a trade Okay,
- 15:50so seattle receives a third round pick and of
- 15:53course las vegas receives jeno smith as well.
- 15:56Okay, but then he inks a deal with The raiders,
- 16:02okay a three -year 75 million dollar deal 40
- 16:04million guaranteed 25 million a year not bad
- 16:08Really good, actually. So, when we look at his
- 16:10stats, you know, 4 ,320 passing yards, 21 touchdowns,
- 16:1415 picks, and 7 .5 yards per 10, and a 70 .4
- 16:18completion percentage. Now, as we talked about
- 16:22the whole debacle with the Seahawks maybe about
- 16:25a week or two, I had already believed that this
- 16:28was going to be the last time that we saw Geno
- 16:30Smith in a Seahawks jersey, simply because they
- 16:34were pressed for cash. You had three players,
- 16:37that were taking up a large chunk of the cap
- 16:40space. DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Geno Smith.
- 16:44And so what happened? They released Tyler Lockett,
- 16:47they traded away DK Metcalf, and then they traded
- 16:49away Geno Smith. And it was only right for them
- 16:53to send him to Las Vegas because why? He was
- 16:56able to get his second chance under Pete Carroll.
- 16:59So it was only right for Pete Carroll to continue
- 17:02to get his guy again. Let's be real here. This
- 17:05is not a hard topic to wrap your mind around.
- 17:09This isn't a topic where you're like, well, why
- 17:11do they do this or why do they do that? No. Let's
- 17:14be real here, folks. Gino Smith is still a really
- 17:16productive quarterback. Am I saying he's a top
- 17:1810 quarterback? No. Am I saying he's possibly
- 17:20maybe a top 15, maybe top 20 quarterback? Yes.
- 17:24Yes. He is still a very productive quarterback.
- 17:27Now, is he somebody that can go toe to toe with
- 17:29a burrow? Lamar or my homes or any like that.
- 17:33Mmm. I don't know. That's I Don't know. I mean
- 17:37a few weeks about that. Okay, let me let's get
- 17:39through the draft for us Then we can figure out
- 17:41exactly how things are gonna go. But at the same
- 17:43time This makes that division more and more Competitive
- 17:48because remember for all those years it was just
- 17:51my homes to steamrolling the entire division
- 17:54But now you got bone next you got Justin Herbert.
- 17:57You got Gino Smith and you got my homes All in
- 18:00one division. Man, oh man, will that be a very
- 18:04competitive division this season, okay? Each
- 18:07and every one of those teams have positioned
- 18:10themselves to get better than last year. And
- 18:14it's only up from here. The Broncos are getting
- 18:16their act together. The Raiders have the potential
- 18:19to get their act together. The Chargers are starting
- 18:22to be a little bit more consistent. I'm telling
- 18:25you folks, Those other three teams are going
- 18:28to make the process for the Chiefs to win the...
- 18:32What is it? What is it? The first seed. It's
- 18:35going to be difficult for them to win the first
- 18:36seed this year. I'm telling you. One of those
- 18:39teams is going to prevent Mahomes from getting
- 18:41that first seed. And man oh man, is it going
- 18:44to be hilarious. But let's get into another situation.
- 18:48That is Sam Darnold going to Seattle. I know,
- 18:51right? It's like a swap. you go to sin city i
- 18:54go to you know seattle or whatever who cares
- 18:57okay so sam donnell inks a three -year 100 .5
- 19:01million dollar contract 55 million guarantee
- 19:04he'll be making 33 .5 million a year when we
- 19:07look at his stats we all know his stats 4 319
- 19:12passing yards 35 touchdowns 12 picks 7 .9 yards
- 19:17per attempt in a 66 .2 completion percentage
- 19:20First of all, we have to thank Kevin O 'Connell
- 19:22for this, okay? First of all, half of that money
- 19:25needs to go to Kevin O 'Connell's account because
- 19:27if it wasn't for Kevin O 'Connell, he would not
- 19:29be getting this bag. I'm just being completely
- 19:30honest with you, okay? But when we look at this,
- 19:33you know, from the outside looking in, Seattle
- 19:37was going to get Sam Darnold. Nobody else was
- 19:40going to be willing to give Sam Darnold a $100
- 19:43-plus million contract. Nobody was it. But who
- 19:46would do that? The Seahawks. Once they got off
- 19:49of the Gino Smith contract and Tyler Lockett
- 19:52and DK Metcalf, they made the decision. Okay,
- 19:55let's go and get our quarterback. And that's
- 19:57exactly what they did. Now, this is a little
- 20:00bit of a different contract because it's a three
- 20:03year instead of a four year. So my guess is this,
- 20:06and I haven't been able to look at the structure
- 20:08of the contract, which believe it or not, a lot
- 20:11of the contracts, you really haven't been able
- 20:13to really look at the structure of them. But
- 20:15my guess is, They structured this contract to
- 20:19where they put a lot of his money up front in
- 20:23the first two years so that maybe that third
- 20:26year can be sort of like a ghost year or There
- 20:29will probably be like, you know, less guarantees
- 20:32and less of a base salary. It could be one of
- 20:34those two different things But all I know okay.
- 20:38Yes, you guys got your quarterback cool. You
- 20:40still have JSN You now have Cooper Cup like okay
- 20:44this team could could do a few things now am
- 20:46i saying this team is going to be ultra competitive
- 20:49no do i think this this team still needs a lot
- 20:52of work to do yes but i mean they address the
- 20:56most important position which is quarterback
- 20:58so all in all congratulations to them now We
- 21:02got to talk about DK mech have going to the Pittsburgh
- 21:05Steelers. Yes, you thought I was gonna do the
- 21:07six times six time No, we're not doing that.
- 21:08Okay, because I I got a little bit of a beef
- 21:10right now with with with the con artists Okay,
- 21:13but but i'll leave it i'll leave it there. We're
- 21:15not gonna talk about it, but we will talk about
- 21:16it We will address it. Okay when we get to the
- 21:20afc north Okay, so DK Metcalfe was traded to
- 21:24the Pittsburgh Steelers. So Seattle receives
- 21:26the 2025 second round pick and the 2025 seventh
- 21:29round pick. Pittsburgh, of course, receives DK
- 21:31Metcalfe in the 2025 sixth round pick. Okay.
- 21:35And in doing so, DK Metcalfe agrees to a five
- 21:40year, $132 million deal. He'll be making 33 million
- 21:44a year. Okay. Now when we look at his stats,
- 21:4766 receptions for 992 receiving yards, five touchdowns,
- 21:5115 receiving yards per reception. Now, when we
- 21:54look at this, this is the quote unquote splashy
- 21:57move. I don't know why, but I just hate, I hate
- 21:59using that word, but this is the big move that
- 22:02everybody has been wanting the Steelers to do.
- 22:05Because remember, we all know what happened last
- 22:08year when they were basically the only team trying
- 22:10to get brand new again, and basically they didn't
- 22:12get anything. And so that's. Man, that year was
- 22:17just horrible, okay? And so they wanted to make
- 22:19things right, and they got DK Metcalf. Great.
- 22:23I already knew that the Seattle Seahawks were
- 22:26not going to get a first round pick for DK Metcalf.
- 22:31I'm sorry, he's not worth a first round pick.
- 22:33Because why? You're gonna have to pay him 30
- 22:35plus million a year. Why am I giving you a first
- 22:39round pick, an additional pick, just for you
- 22:41to do that? No. All in all, great deal for the
- 22:45Steelers. They get their number one receiver.
- 22:48I just want to see how things are going to go
- 22:50moving forward. Because you have DK Metcalf,
- 22:54you have George Pickens, you have Pat Fryermuth,
- 22:57you have Jaylen Warren. You have a pretty competent
- 23:01offense. But the question is, how are things
- 23:06going to go moving forward? Because they don't
- 23:09have a quarterback. I know I'm not really supposed
- 23:11to be talking about the Steelers, but You just
- 23:14have to at this point, but DK Metcalf is somebody
- 23:18Who was going to put in 100 % not you know what
- 23:23screw 100? He's gonna put a hundred and ten percent
- 23:26effort in everything that he does Every route
- 23:29every block being a menace to society to every
- 23:32DB. He is going to do that Okay, this is the
- 23:36Brothers of Destruction wide receivers. You're
- 23:40talking about two legitimate crash outs of a
- 23:43receiver who do not care, who always look for
- 23:47the fade. Every single time you are going to
- 23:52see DK Metcalf and George Pickens gang up on
- 23:56some of these DBs. DK Metcalf got him in the
- 24:00headlock and George Pickens is just beating them
- 24:03up. Okay that's how crazy of a situation this
- 24:06is. But At the same time, you're getting somebody
- 24:10who is literally in the middle of their prime.
- 24:13So you're going to get probably the remainder
- 24:15of his prime and more. D .K. Metcalfe's game
- 24:18is going to age well because even when he loses
- 24:22his speed, he'll still have his strength. So
- 24:25he'll still be able to win those contested catches
- 24:27and everything. So all in all, great move. But
- 24:30we have to talk about free agency, folks. The
- 24:32first week of free agency, and best believe,
- 24:35within maybe the next two or three episodes will
- 24:37do great for every single team with you know
- 24:39the free agency moves because there are some
- 24:42teams that did more than others and i'll just
- 24:44leave it there before i get really upset so let's
- 24:47just get into it so let's start harold landry
- 24:50okay ain't a three -year 43 .5 million dollar
- 24:53deal with the patriots 26 million guarantee and
- 24:56he will be making 14 .5 million a year his stats
- 24:59of course 71 tackles 9 sacks 41 quarterback pressures
- 25:04now when we look at this you know when we talked
- 25:06about that whole scenario when it happened when
- 25:09he was you know given permission to secret trade
- 25:12in the back of my mind i had a feeling that he
- 25:16probably would go to the Patriots but i didn't
- 25:20believe that he was actually going to do it and
- 25:22the only reason why i say that is because i thought
- 25:25he was going to try to at least go after a championship
- 25:29at least that's what I would have thought but
- 25:31clearly I was wrong and so he goes back to my
- 25:35variable which this actually benefits my variable
- 25:38a lot because he brings in a defensive player
- 25:42who can sort of show everybody else like hey
- 25:46this is how my variable does this and does that
- 25:49and this is how you're supposed to move in this
- 25:51situation that situation all those different
- 25:53things Compared to, you know, him having to emphasize,
- 25:58okay, you gotta do this, you gotta do that. Like,
- 26:00he doesn't have to do that no more because you
- 26:01bring in someone like a Harold Landry. On top
- 26:04of that, you just made this defense a whole lot
- 26:05better, okay? You got Chris Gonzalez, unfortunately.
- 26:08You have Carlton Davis. You have Harold Landry.
- 26:11You have Christian Barmore. You got Milton Williams.
- 26:14This is a really good defense. Now, am I saying
- 26:16this team could possibly win seven or eight games?
- 26:19I don't know, but only time will tell. Okay,
- 26:22let's keep on going JC horn. Okay corner for
- 26:25the Panthers. It's a four -year 100 million dollar
- 26:29deal Okay, 28 .4 signing bonus. All right 17
- 26:33million 72 not 17 72 million guaranteed. He'll
- 26:37be making 25 million a year folks when we look
- 26:41at his stats 68 tackles two sacks One pick, he
- 26:45was targeted 75 times and allowed 38 receptions
- 26:49for 419 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
- 26:52J .C. Horne, when he was coming out of, I think,
- 26:54what was it, South Carolina? I think it was South
- 26:56Carolina. If it wasn't, then I'm wrong. Sorry.
- 26:59When he was coming out of college, I was very
- 27:01high on J .C. Horne. I wanted the Steelers to
- 27:03go after J .C. Horne, but clearly they did not
- 27:06get him. Me personally, I would have thought
- 27:08the Panthers would have traded him, but I think
- 27:11they valued him so much. They just have to you
- 27:14know go ahead and just pay him which oh no. It's
- 27:17a really good deal He's still a really productive
- 27:19corner. He's definitely on that top tier of young
- 27:23corners So I don't see why you know anybody would
- 27:27have tried to you know possibly trade for him
- 27:29Steelers or maybe you know Ravens or you know
- 27:33any other team just saying just saying just saying
- 27:35just saying But um you know all all jokes aside
- 27:39J .C. Horne plays a very pivotal role in this
- 27:42defense. He has done a phenomenal job within
- 27:45the last three years and so it's only right to
- 27:47reward him. That's it. Now, on to Khalil Mack.
- 27:51Khalil Mack inks a one -year, $18 million deal
- 27:54with the Chargers. Okay, he stays back in LA.
- 27:58$10 million signing bonus, $18 million guaranteed,
- 28:00$18 million a year. Now, when we look at his
- 28:03stats, 39 tackles, six sacks, and 54 quarterback
- 28:07pressures. Now, when we look at this, I believed
- 28:10that Khalil Mack was not gonna go anywhere else.
- 28:13Simply because, and this is just a truth bomb,
- 28:17I'm just being honest with you guys, Khalil Mack
- 28:20has been more productive in the last four years
- 28:24with the Chargers than what Joey Bosa has. Joey
- 28:28Bosa has not been able to stay healthy to save
- 28:31a lick, okay? You're looking at a Khalil Mack
- 28:35who... I think he's only two years removed from
- 28:39being a finalist for defensive player of the
- 28:42year. He has been able to be very productive
- 28:45in these last few years. So it was only right
- 28:48to bring him back. Now granted, of course they
- 28:51had to release him because they probably wanted
- 28:54to do so just to free up some cap space so they
- 28:56can address other positions. But all in all,
- 28:58you bring somebody back. I definitely believed
- 29:02that the Chargers were not going to bring back
- 29:04Joey Bosa at any time simply because why? He
- 29:08hasn't been super productive, he's more expensive,
- 29:11and there's just no need to keep him. I'm sorry.
- 29:14If he was doing what he did in the first three
- 29:16years, okay, fine. No problem whatsoever. But
- 29:21anytime you have Khalil Mack, old Khalil Mack,
- 29:25doing a better job, more productive, more consistent
- 29:30than what you have been, that's a problem. And
- 29:34that's why the Chargers chose Khalil Mack over
- 29:37Joey Bolson, right? Now Chris Gollin, he inks
- 29:40a three year, $66 million deal, 44 million guaranteed,
- 29:4522 million a year, okay? And when we look at
- 29:48his stats, 50 receptions for 500. 76 receiving
- 29:52yards, five touchdowns, 11 .5 receiving yards
- 29:54per reception. Now when we look at this, you
- 29:57know, Chris Godwin could have tested free agency
- 29:59if he really wanted to. He could have went, you
- 30:02know, anywhere. If he could have, he could have
- 30:04went to the Patriots, for instance, right? The
- 30:06Patriots would have been willing to give him
- 30:0830 plus million. Chris Godwin had a market. I
- 30:10don't care what anyone says. He had a legitimate
- 30:13market because Why? He is still a very productive
- 30:17receiver. Despite the injury that he had last
- 30:20season, he was still very productive. And so
- 30:24Chris Galwin decided to choose loyalty with a
- 30:27stable franchise over a testing free agency,
- 30:30which I don't blame him for. And we'll get more
- 30:33into once we get into the divisional rodeo. But
- 30:37the fact of the matter is the Buccaneers have
- 30:39been very consistent. I don't know, five, 10,
- 30:43maybe. even longer than that but in recent times
- 30:47they have been very productive since the whole
- 30:50Tom Brady situation okay and so I think Chris
- 30:53Godwin values that a lot and so in doing so I
- 30:56think he was just like forget about I'll just
- 30:58stay here why leave I'm in the best situation
- 31:01I'm I'm not too far away from Disney World not
- 31:04too far from Universal Studios like come on who
- 31:06where else would I want to go I don't want to
- 31:08go nowhere where it's cold want to be somewhere
- 31:10it's warm come on But when we look at it, you
- 31:14know, we got some other people that we have to
- 31:16talk about. Okay, Drew Dahlman Yes, you're probably
- 31:18thinking who's drew Dahlman drew Dahlman was
- 31:21the center for the Falcons And now he is the
- 31:23center for the Bears go Bears three years 42
- 31:26million a six million dollar signing bonus 28
- 31:29million guaranteed. He'll be making 14 million
- 31:32a year I think we got to have an honest conversation.
- 31:34You know, it's just crazy to me how A lot of
- 31:37these offensive coaches, you know, when their
- 31:39offensive lines aren't that good, guess what?
- 31:42They address it so quickly and they rebuild their
- 31:45offensive line so quickly that it's just like,
- 31:47whoa, what just happened? Ben Johnson made a
- 31:51trade, made a few trades. Okay, they got Joe
- 31:54Thune, they got the guard from the Rams, and
- 31:58now they just got a center. Their offensive line
- 32:00is good now. Their offensive line is good. They
- 32:03no longer have to prioritize offensive line in
- 32:05the draft if they really don't want to. That
- 32:07is how quickly they address their problems Compared
- 32:11to defensive coaches where they'll just neglect
- 32:13an offensive line and just say hey put a band
- 32:16-aid over it will be perfectly fine But when
- 32:17we look at this, you know, I would have thought
- 32:20the Falcons would have tried to at least put
- 32:22out an offer for poor Drew Dahlman simply because
- 32:26That offensive line for the Falcons has been
- 32:29really good lately. And so you would have thought
- 32:32hey Keep the center. The center is really important
- 32:35outside of quarterback. Clearly. That's not the
- 32:37case but You know what? Well, we'll save that
- 32:41for the Falcons. I want to save that for the
- 32:43Falcons I have so much I have to say okay You
- 32:45guys don't realize how excited I am to do about
- 32:49this not to mention if I'm not mistaken I think
- 32:52our first year anniversary For this podcast.
- 32:56I think is next week if I'm not mistaken, but
- 32:58who cares about that. All right back Back to
- 33:01the free agency stuff. But when we look at this,
- 33:04offensive linemen have become more and more a
- 33:08priority in recent free agencies than what we've
- 33:11seen in past years. Why? Because we're seeing
- 33:15a lot of interior defensive linemen who are wrecking
- 33:17shops. So what's the best way to prevent that
- 33:20from happening? You get some really productive
- 33:22interior offensive linemen. And that's exactly
- 33:24what the Bears did. The Bears prioritized the
- 33:27health and wealth of Caleb Williams. Your quarterback's
- 33:31years are determined by their offensive line.
- 33:34If they have an offensive line, oh, hey, they'll
- 33:36be fine. They'll be perfectly fine. If they don't
- 33:39have an offensive line, good is gone in less
- 33:43than 10 years. If you don't believe me, ask Andrew
- 33:46Luck. No disrespect. Now let's go to DJ Reed,
- 33:49OK? DJ Reed inks a three -year $48 million deal,
- 33:53$32 million guaranteed, and he'll be making $16
- 33:56million a year, OK? When we look at his stats,
- 34:0064 tackles, one sack. He was targeted 59 times
- 34:04and allowed 33 receptions for 369 yards and one
- 34:08touchdown. DJ Reed goes to the Lions. I was a
- 34:12little bit shocked about this one, only because
- 34:16I would have thought he would have stayed in
- 34:18the AFC personally. But clearly that's not the
- 34:21case. I knew that he wasn't gonna go to the Jets
- 34:24Okay, I knew he wasn't gonna will not go because
- 34:26he was already with the Jets I knew that he wasn't
- 34:28gonna stay with the Jets, excuse me, but to go
- 34:31to the Lions I mean the Lions do value their
- 34:34secondary a lot and so getting someone like a
- 34:37DJ Reid would definitely do wonders because again
- 34:39They lost Carlton Davis, but they still have
- 34:42Tyrion Arnold So you have Tyrion Arnold and you
- 34:45have DJ Reid. So I mean, that's a good tandem
- 34:48right there Milton Williams gets the Brinks truck.
- 34:51Okay at first we're thinking Oh, he's going to
- 34:55the Panthers and then in report says not Guess
- 34:58what he guess where he's going to the Patriots
- 35:01folks. So he inks a four -year 104 million dollar
- 35:05deal 24 million dollar signing bonus 63 million
- 35:10guaranteed and he'll be making 26 million a year
- 35:13Let me tell you something before I before I get
- 35:15into the into the stats or right now Cuz I'm
- 35:18feeling a little bit funny, okay, I Need to hire
- 35:22one of these agents to be my representation will
- 35:25begin to the big contracts and whatnot because
- 35:28you guys are legal Robbers, okay, and I mean
- 35:33this in a funny way you guys are legal Robbers
- 35:38you guys I don't know how you do it But when
- 35:42it comes to free agency you guys are doing the
- 35:45birdman hand rub when it comes to a free agent
- 35:49Especially a top free agent who's your client
- 35:52because you know why they get the bag Better
- 35:56yet forget about a bad. They get the Brinks truck.
- 35:58Okay, the Brinks truck is just is just pulled
- 36:01into the driveway Give them the keys and just
- 36:04say hey all that's yours in the back my G That's
- 36:08how crazy it is. When we look at this, you know,
- 36:10Milton Williams, from a stat perspective, okay,
- 36:14his stats were 24 tackles, five sacks, and 35
- 36:18quarterback pressures. Folks, we're talking about
- 36:20somebody who was playing very well when it came
- 36:23to the Super Bowl. You're talking about somebody
- 36:26who was wrecking the shop along with Jalen Carter.
- 36:29So it was only right for them to pay him. And
- 36:32not to mention, you're talking about somebody
- 36:34who... didn't play as many snaps as everybody
- 36:37else did. So you have to factor in that and you
- 36:40also have to factor in that he was one of those
- 36:43defensive linemen that was waiting. This is exactly
- 36:47why the Eagles recipe has been able to withstood
- 36:50the test of time. Because you know why? They
- 36:54continue to draft offensive and defensive linemen
- 36:56every single year and you don't even know who
- 36:58you're getting. You could be getting a dog and
- 37:01you don't even realize it. That's how crazy it
- 37:04is. And guess what? He got paid for it. Man,
- 37:08you don't want a Super Bowl. You ain't got a
- 37:11hundred million dollar contract. Man, life is
- 37:13good. Life is good in the hood. Man, we also
- 37:18got to talk about another trade and that is Loremi
- 37:21Tunsell getting traded to the commanders. It's
- 37:24just crazy how, you know, now that I'm a Steelers
- 37:26fan, the commanders want to get their act together.
- 37:29you know every single day i'm just wondering
- 37:32if i should be a commanders fan at this point
- 37:35because you know the commanders are basically
- 37:37on the cusp of potentially winning the super
- 37:39bowl at this point i mean this it's just horrible
- 37:42horrible but when we look at this okay washington
- 37:45receives a 2025 fourth round pick in lorenzo
- 37:48tunsel houston receives a 2025 third and seventh
- 37:52round pick as well as a 2026 fourth round pick
- 37:56Let me tell you something. Let me tell you something.
- 37:59They're GM Cooking he's been cooking with hot
- 38:02grease from the minute that they traded for Debo
- 38:04Okay, they are serious about Jayden Daniels and
- 38:07it shows now when we look at this for the Texans
- 38:11I'm still trying to figure out why would you
- 38:13make this trade like Remy Tunsel has been? Your
- 38:17best offensive lineman. Why would you trade him
- 38:19away? Not to mention you didn't even get a first
- 38:23-round pick for That's crazy. That is robbery
- 38:27Highway robbery and they did it they did it um
- 38:33When this news broke I almost lost it folks.
- 38:37That's how crazy it was but from a financial
- 38:40standpoint You know he still has two years left
- 38:43on his deal counting this year a base salary
- 38:45of twenty point nine million Okay with a cap
- 38:48hit of twenty one point three million, which
- 38:51you know really isn't that bad Now the thing
- 38:53is this, this benefits Washington more because
- 38:56why? You've solidified your left tackle spot
- 38:59with a really good left tackle. Outside of Trent
- 39:03Williams, Loremi Tunsil is probably either in
- 39:06the same conversation with Trent Williams or
- 39:08probably right under him, but he's not too far
- 39:10away from Trent Williams. Not to mention, this
- 39:14reduces the priority of getting a left tackle
- 39:16to maybe a sixth or seventh round if they really
- 39:19wanted to. because you brought in someone that's
- 39:21been highly productive basically his entire career.
- 39:25So you protect Jaden Daniels' blind side while
- 39:28at the same time you're making a large investment
- 39:30into Jaden Daniels because again you build your
- 39:33team when the quarterback is on a rookie deal
- 39:36because once that rookie deal is over with things
- 39:38get a little bit crazy. But for Houston I'm trying
- 39:42to understand why would you trade away the Remy
- 39:44Tunsel unless if you're going to address offensive
- 39:47line high because right now you have to address
- 39:51your left tackle, you got to address guard, I
- 39:54think you also have to address maybe center if
- 39:57I'm not mistaken but like they've let go a few
- 40:00of their offensive linemen and they really haven't
- 40:03made a whole lot of additions to the offensive
- 40:06line so I'm just trying to understand why I do
- 40:09that now especially when CJ Stroud had the season
- 40:11that he just had where basically he was taking
- 40:14a beating Because of this offensive line. So
- 40:17I don't know what what their plan is, but they
- 40:20must feel real confident in their plan Okay.
- 40:23Now let's get into will fries. Okay will fries
- 40:27Joins the Vikings so he ain't a five -year 88
- 40:30million dollar deal 17 .6 million a year the
- 40:35Vikings prioritize their offensive and defensive
- 40:38line and it's going to pay off substantially
- 40:41whoever their quarterback is Whether it be Aaron
- 40:45Rodgers, whether it be J .J. McCarthy, whether
- 40:47it be anybody else. They're going to be fine.
- 40:50Christian Darisal is coming back. You pair him
- 40:52with Will Fries and everybody else on this offensive
- 40:55line. On top of that, you have Justin Jefferson,
- 40:59T .J. Hockeson, and Jordan Addison, and Aaron
- 41:02Jo— Man, listen, let me tell you something. This
- 41:05Vikings team— This Viking seems going to be a
- 41:07problem. This Viking seems going to be a menace
- 41:10to society, folks, because why? They realize
- 41:13that, listen, we must prioritize our offense
- 41:16and defensive line. That is the only way that
- 41:19we're going to be able to go further in the playoffs.
- 41:23Otherwise, we're going to be right where we just
- 41:25were last year, which is trying to compete for
- 41:28a high seed, but we basically flop. And it shows
- 41:32with the next two contracts, which are related
- 41:34to the Vikings, which is Jonathan Allen and Javon
- 41:37Hargrave. Both great signings, not a lot of money,
- 41:41and that bolsters up your defensive line even
- 41:43more, because now you have Javon Hargrave, Jonathan
- 41:47Allen, Dallas Turner, I forget who the other
- 41:49patch rusher is. Along with Byron Murphy and
- 41:53Harrison Smith like it's a really good deep We
- 41:56look at Jonathan Allen's deal three years 51
- 41:58million or 14 million dollar signing bonus 31
- 42:01.2 million guaranteed only 17 million a year
- 42:04That's not bad. And even when you look at his
- 42:07stats last year, which are a little bit low only
- 42:10because You know, he suffered a pec injury sort
- 42:14of like middle to late part of the season and
- 42:17originally he was declared out within once they
- 42:20made it to the playoffs and whatnot, it opened
- 42:23up a window for him to be able to come back and,
- 42:26you know, the rest is history. So when we look
- 42:28at his stats, 19 tackles, three sacks, 14 quarterback
- 42:31pressures. Now, I knew Jonathan Allen wasn't
- 42:34going to be able to demand 20 plus million, but
- 42:37around that, you know, 17 to 18 million, I think
- 42:40that's the sweet spot for him. And then with
- 42:42Javon Hargrave, same situation. You're coming
- 42:45off of an injury year when we look at his deal.
- 42:49Two years, 30 million, 19 million guaranteed,
- 42:5115 million a year. Perfect. And then we look
- 42:54at his stats, seven tackles, one sack, and eight
- 42:56quarterback pressures. These are two very productive
- 42:59defensive linemen that injuries have basically
- 43:03derailed them this past season. So now this is
- 43:05a bounce back year for the both of them. And
- 43:08I think this is the best situation for them to
- 43:09go to. Now, me personally would have wanted them
- 43:11to go to the Steelers just because, you know,
- 43:13Gravedigger coming back to the Steelers. But
- 43:15clearly that was not the case. But when we look
- 43:17at Joey Bosa's situation, okay, this one was
- 43:19a little bit of a head scratcher only because
- 43:22the Bills got rid of Von Miller. Okay, cool.
- 43:25I understand that 100 % of the way. You wanted
- 43:28to get rid of that, you know, horrendous contract
- 43:30that you gave him, which... It was a horrendous
- 43:33contract and they only paid him that type of
- 43:35money because of what he did during the Super
- 43:37Bowl and that entire playoff run with the Rams.
- 43:41Okay, but when we look at Joey Bosa's contract,
- 43:43one year, 12 .6 million, 12 million guaranteed,
- 43:4612 .6 million a year. Okay, when we look at his
- 43:49stats, 22 tackles, five sacks, 33 quarterback
- 43:52pressures. This is somewhat of a let's see if
- 43:57you still got it, if you don't got it. It's a
- 43:59low risk, high reward deal. because outside of
- 44:03Gregory Russo, who else do you have that's been
- 44:06very consistent? Nobody. So bringing in someone
- 44:11like a Joey Bosa, you get to see where he is.
- 44:14Because again, like I said before in previous
- 44:17episodes, Joey Bosa is not the same person. Injuries
- 44:21have completely derailed him for the last three
- 44:24and four years. That's exactly why the charges
- 44:27did not decide to keep him because why you were
- 44:30way too expensive and your Production wasn't
- 44:33meeting the contract that you were currently
- 44:35under So they had to get rid of you on top of
- 44:38that your partner Khalil Mack was doing way more
- 44:42than you It was being more consistent and more
- 44:44productive than you. Well, I mean come on now
- 44:47me personally I would have thought he would have
- 44:49went to his brother or I would have thought he
- 44:51would have went to the Dolphins because Those
- 44:53were the only two teams that everybody was saying
- 44:55that was really interested in Joey Bosa. But
- 44:58clearly the Bills came out the blue and gave
- 45:00him the deal that they gave him. Now, Grady Jarrett's
- 45:03situation is a little bit weird. Because the
- 45:06Falcons wanted him to take a pay cut, he said
- 45:08no, and so they just released him. Which sort
- 45:13of goes into what's going on with the Falcons,
- 45:15but I don't understand why you would let him
- 45:18go. just because he refused not to take a pay
- 45:21cut. I'm not going to take a pay cut when, for
- 45:23one, I'm one of the leaders of the defense. I've
- 45:27been consistent. Sure, I'm getting a family year,
- 45:30but it doesn't even matter because why? I'm still
- 45:32that guy. So why in the world should I have to
- 45:34take a pay cut? And guess what? He bounced back
- 45:38and went to another team in a better situation.
- 45:41Now he's with the Bears. Three years, 43 .5 million.
- 45:4428 .5 million guaranteed. 14 .5 million a year.
- 45:48That's not bad, even with his stats. 53 tackles,
- 45:512 .5 sacks, 32 quarterback pressures. I don't
- 45:54care what anyone says, Grady Jared is still that
- 45:56guy. And he will always be that guy. Why? Because
- 46:01he's always been very productive. Now, when you
- 46:04look at his stats, you're probably thinking,
- 46:05oh, well, that's not really productive. No, not
- 46:08really. It's not the stats. You gotta look at
- 46:10the tape. You're talking about somebody that
- 46:12is getting through and, you know, a guard in
- 46:16the center is basically double -teaming and he's
- 46:17still finding a way to get through. This is somebody
- 46:21that you're pairing him with Montez Sweat and
- 46:25Tremaine Edmonds and Jalen Johnson and Jaquan
- 46:28Brisker and, you know, all those other guys.
- 46:32That's a really productive defense. The Bears
- 46:36right now have really positioned themselves to
- 46:38be in a really good place. That division as a
- 46:41whole has really positioned themselves to be
- 46:44very competitive. I think the only question mark
- 46:47that we have is just the Lions. And that's only
- 46:50because they lost both Ben Johnson and Aaron
- 46:52Glenn this offseason. Outside of that, I think
- 46:56it's gonna be a very competitive division. Now
- 46:59we look at Evan Ingram, which was somewhat of
- 47:01a shocker. He goes to the Broncos. Two years,
- 47:05$23 million, $8 million signing bonus, $16 .5
- 47:09million guarantee, $11 .5 million a year. I did
- 47:13not expect for him to be released by the Jaguars,
- 47:15but he goes into a way better situation. This
- 47:18is another weapon for Bo Nix to throw to, okay?
- 47:21You have Courtland Sutton, as long as he doesn't,
- 47:24you know, hold out or anything. Evan Ingram,
- 47:27Bo Nix. This is a pretty good team. This is a
- 47:32really good team. people are tired of losing
- 47:36and some people just say you know what to hell
- 47:38with it we'll just go somewhere else and that's
- 47:40exactly what Evan Ingram did and he found himself
- 47:42another bag okay. Tylenol hefunga goes to the
- 47:47Broncos really good deal three years 45 million
- 47:4920 million guaranteed 15 million a year that's
- 47:52not bad at all When we look at his stats, 38
- 47:55tackles, he was targeted 8 times for 7 receptions
- 47:58for 112 yards. He's been one of those rising
- 48:02stars when it comes to safeties. And he probably
- 48:05could have demanded more money, but for him to
- 48:08take this deal is really good. He's still a really
- 48:11good competitive safety, and I think he's going
- 48:14to get better as his career progresses. Now,
- 48:18when we go to the Justin Field situation... I
- 48:21know it's a sensitive subject for some Steelers
- 48:23fans, but I'm gonna break things down in a way
- 48:25that you guys are gonna be able to understand
- 48:27it. So, before I get to that point, let's just
- 48:29get into the contract, okay? Two years, $40 million,
- 48:32a $15 million signing bonus, $30 million guarantee,
- 48:34and he'll be making $20 million a year, okay?
- 48:37His stats, 1 ,106 passing yards, five touchdowns,
- 48:42one pick, and 6 .9 yards per attempt. Now, when
- 48:45we look at this situation, okay? In some ways,
- 48:48this was a blessing in disguise for Justin Fields.
- 48:50And I'm going to explain why. Because had he
- 48:53played the entire season, I don't think he would
- 48:56have been able to get the money that he got.
- 48:59But because he played only six games, I think
- 49:03it left a lot of question marks for a lot of
- 49:06teams to say, you know what? I like that. I want
- 49:09to invest into that. Now, when we look at it
- 49:11from the Steelers perspective, in his mind, he
- 49:17got screwed over. In his mind, he was never given
- 49:22the keys to the kingdom. Because once he was
- 49:26traded, what was the first thing that Mike Thomas
- 49:28said? Russell Wilson has pole position of his
- 49:31team. Every single time. Every single time he
- 49:36was brought on for an interview or anytime anybody
- 49:38asked him anything related to quarterback. It
- 49:40was always what? Russell Wilson has the pole
- 49:44position. So automatically, you've already doubted
- 49:47me. You've already eliminated me from competition.
- 49:49You've already set the standard and you've already
- 49:52put the line in the sand and say, guess what?
- 49:54No matter what you do, no matter what stat you
- 49:58put up, Russell Wilson is going to be the guy.
- 50:02We're going to go back to Russell Wilson. And
- 50:05so for him, that probably, you know, made him
- 50:08feel some type of way. And then not to mention
- 50:10six games into the season, you pulled the plug
- 50:12for me. And then basically for the rest of the
- 50:15season, I'm on the bench. That's not good Especially
- 50:19during that five game stretch. You would have
- 50:22thought hey make a switch Maybe put Justin Fields
- 50:25in see you know see what happens No Not at all
- 50:31and so for him. He probably was like you know
- 50:34what the hell with them The Jets are offer me
- 50:37a better bag. I get to play with my former teammate
- 50:39and Garrett Wilson Let's see what happens. Now,
- 50:42the only problem that I have with this situation
- 50:44is the offensive coordinator. I don't think that
- 50:46offensive coordinator and Justin Fields are really
- 50:48going to match together because that offensive
- 50:52coordinator, his system is basically Ben Johnson's
- 50:552 .0 with a few little tweaks and whatnot. And
- 50:59Justin Fields isn't really that fast of a processor,
- 51:02so I don't know how that's really going to work,
- 51:04but only time will tell, right? And so... when
- 51:09we look at this, I don't even think the Steelers
- 51:13were willing to really offer him the type of
- 51:15contract that he just signed with the Jets. I
- 51:18think they were gonna try to lowball him and
- 51:20basically try to say, hey listen, we'll bring
- 51:23you some good weapons and then see what happens
- 51:25and maybe something can work in your favor and
- 51:31we'll give you sort of like a trial just to...
- 51:34You know see what happens and then we'll go from
- 51:36there like it could have been that or they probably
- 51:39didn't promise him You know the the starting
- 51:42job And so if I'm Justin Fields, that's what
- 51:45I want I feel like I am a starting caliber quarterback
- 51:48and I will not argue with anybody that says otherwise
- 51:53But the fact of the matter is the Steelers screwed
- 51:55him the Steelers did not give him The adequate
- 52:00chance to actually really showcase his skill
- 52:03set if the Steelers would have said hey listen
- 52:05We're gonna give you the first half of the season
- 52:08and then Russ you get the second half of the
- 52:10season And then you guys come to a decision Okay,
- 52:14fine But you just deciding hey six games. We're
- 52:18gonna pull the plug for me when you only had
- 52:20two bad games Unacceptable, that's my time now.
- 52:24Let's get into the divisional Rodeo folks and
- 52:27we are in the NFC style so you already know how
- 52:31my spill goes okay salary free agents draft picks
- 52:35possessions of need and candidates for either
- 52:37restructure extension trades or cuts so we're
- 52:40going to start with the saints all right so you
- 52:42have a salary of 17 .1 million with a rollover
- 52:44cap of 2 .9 million okay Your free agents, Paul
- 52:48Snelledivo, Chase Young, Juwan Johnson, Will
- 52:51Harris, Marquez Valdez Gantling, Peyton Turner,
- 52:53and Dante Pettis, just to name a few. Your draft
- 52:56picks, of course you got your first, your second,
- 52:58you have two third round picks, you have two
- 53:00fourth round picks, you have a sixth, and you
- 53:02have a seventh. You don't have a fifth round
- 53:04pick. Positions of need, wide receiver, edge,
- 53:07corner, tight end, interior offensive line, and
- 53:09running back. This is what I'll say to start
- 53:12things off, specifically with the cap. I think...
- 53:16The number one red flag for this job was when
- 53:20a lot of those coaches decided not to take the
- 53:23interviews for the Saints. Once you saw Mike
- 53:27McCarthy and Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn and
- 53:30all those other coaches basically take their
- 53:33name out of the hat for this position. That lets
- 53:36you know that for one they didn't like how things
- 53:40were probably structured and two They don't like
- 53:42it how you're about to inherit a team where for
- 53:46one you have little to no cap space Sure, you
- 53:49have a high draft pick, but you don't have a
- 53:52lot of concrete pieces that you can build off
- 53:55of okay because For the last few years what have
- 54:00we seen? with the with the Saints You find a
- 54:06way to do a whole bunch of restructures you move
- 54:09a whole bunch of money and you do this indeed
- 54:12and you do that and you find a way just to create
- 54:15just a little bit of cash space where you can
- 54:17make one or two free agent signings and then
- 54:20you can sign your rookies at some point you're
- 54:23gonna have to clean your books and I think they
- 54:25should have went through the process of cleaning
- 54:28their books this year because Since the whole
- 54:32Drew Brees thing and whatnot. You've been doing
- 54:35the same method Restructure after restructure
- 54:38after restructure after restructure after restructure
- 54:40pushing money down the road further and further
- 54:43and further Well, guess what at some point the
- 54:46bus has to stop and it should have stopped here
- 54:49now Granted you have a high you have a high first
- 54:52-round pick, you know, you have the ninth pick
- 54:53in the draft great That's cool. But if you're
- 54:56a coach most of the times you inherit either
- 55:00one or two different situations a team that has
- 55:02a whole bunch of cap space like the Patriots
- 55:05or A team that has a high draft pick or the rarity
- 55:09where you inherit both Where you have a high
- 55:12draft pick and you have a lot of cap space the
- 55:14Patriots, but I don't know what it is I don't
- 55:17know if it has to do something with the GM and
- 55:19whatnot, but whatever the case may be It is something
- 55:23that I think needs to be talked about more and
- 55:26more because the Saints as a whole just have
- 55:29to go through a rebuild. Just do it. It's not
- 55:33going to hurt you. What do you have to lose?
- 55:37Drew Brees is gone. Sean Payton is gone. That
- 55:42whole crew is gone. All you have left is Chris
- 55:45Alave and Alvin Kamara. Taysom Hill might be,
- 55:49you know, out the window. Just saying. Sure,
- 55:52you have Cam Jordan and you have DeMario Davis,
- 55:54but they're up in age. They probably want to
- 55:58go somewhere and probably win. Why in the world
- 56:00would you not want to give them that chance?
- 56:03But when we go to positions of need, okay? Wide
- 56:06receiver, edge, cornerback, tight end, interior,
- 56:08offensive line, and running back. Okay, for a
- 56:11wide receiver, you can go about this a few different
- 56:16ways. Outside of Chris Elave, who else do you
- 56:18really have? Exactly, nobody. So you can either
- 56:23address it high in the first round, get someone
- 56:25like a Matthew Golden, a Mecca Bucca for instance,
- 56:28or you can take a swing at maybe the round two
- 56:33or round three range and probably get one of
- 56:36those type of receivers, which I probably would
- 56:38do personally. But you do have to bring in somebody
- 56:41else than just having Chris Alave. And Chris
- 56:44Alave has been having a lot of concussions lately.
- 56:47So that's something that you have to factor in
- 56:49as well. So, I think they need to be going after
- 56:52someone like a Matthew Golden or a Savion Williams
- 56:55or a Strap Row from Miami or Jayden Higgins or
- 57:01Jack Besh or any of those different guys. But
- 57:04you need to bring in somebody else instead of
- 57:07just throwing the ball 20 and 30 and 40 times
- 57:09to Chris O 'Loughlin, okay? Edge. You have to
- 57:13bring in a younger pass rusher. Sure, you have
- 57:17Ken Jordan and you have You know, Chase Young,
- 57:20great. But you need somebody else. All right.
- 57:24You need a little bit more production out of
- 57:27this defensive line because you invested a lot
- 57:29into it. Sure, you have Brian Breecy. You have
- 57:33you now got David Gottschall. You got Chase Young.
- 57:36You still have Kim Jordan. But you need one more
- 57:39really productive young. And I'm going to emphasize
- 57:42young, patch rusher, because if you don't, it's
- 57:46basically pointless. We are seeing now that teams
- 57:50want to invest more into pass rushers because
- 57:53why? They are the ones that are the game closers.
- 57:56They are the ones that are the game changers.
- 57:58They are the ones that can change the tide of
- 58:01an entire game with just one play. Exactly why
- 58:04the Eagles won, because of their pass rush, of
- 58:06their defensive line specifically. Now when we
- 58:09look at corner, I think you do have to prioritize
- 58:13corner high. Simply because okay you have a Kool
- 58:16-Aid McKinstry, but who else do you have and
- 58:19you just lost Paulson? Paulson the Debo to free
- 58:21agency so you need to you need to bring somebody
- 58:24in now For outside corner you may have to dress
- 58:28that in the first round You may have a chance
- 58:31to address in the second round, but do you really
- 58:33want to take that chance? I don't know because
- 58:36in the second round you have Darian Porter you'll
- 58:38have Who else? Who else? Who else? Who else?
- 58:42Quincy Riley. You may have Maxwell Harrison.
- 58:45You'll have a few people. Now in the first round,
- 58:48of course, you may have Will Johnson. You may
- 58:50have Siobhan Revel, Trey Amos, Benjamin Morrison.
- 58:53You'll have options. But you're going to have
- 58:56to make a significant investment into corner.
- 58:59At some point, whether it be this year or next
- 59:02year, you're going to have to do it. Tight end.
- 59:05I feel like this could be your first pick. simply
- 59:07because this is a really good tight end class.
- 59:09You have Tyler Warren, you have Colston Loveland,
- 59:12you have Harold Fanon Jr., you have the tight
- 59:16end from Miami, you have a few other tight ends
- 59:19that are really productive. You have Mason Taylor
- 59:21as well. So you have options at tight end and
- 59:24I think you need to do that now because Taysom
- 59:27Hill is coming from a serious injury and I think
- 59:30it's time that you move off of Taysom Hill. Because
- 59:35right now he's getting up in age and he's coming
- 59:38back from a very serious serious injury And so
- 59:41I think it's you go a little bit younger interior
- 59:44offensive line you have options But your options
- 59:49are possibly first rounders unfortunately Grey's
- 59:54able that's a first rounder Tyler Booker. That's
- 59:57a first rounder. Okay Sure, there's there's a
- 1:00:01few other you know really good interior all sense
- 1:00:03of alignment in the later parts of the draft
- 1:00:05But it's like those are the two that you probably
- 1:00:08want to go after now Do I think one of them will
- 1:00:11be drafted in the first round? Yes for sure.
- 1:00:13Do I think one of them may slip? Yes, there's
- 1:00:16a possibility, but if they do it's not by a lot
- 1:00:19Okay, they may be the first pick in the in the
- 1:00:21second round for all we know But I do feel like
- 1:00:24you do have to make that investment at some point.
- 1:00:27I think this is the year to do it Running back,
- 1:00:30yes. I think you do need to bring in a running
- 1:00:32back, not to take Ivan Kamara's job, but to basically
- 1:00:36help him. With this running back class being
- 1:00:38as good as it is, you need to go and get one.
- 1:00:42You can get Caleb Johnson, Devin Neal, Taj Brooks,
- 1:00:46Damian Martinez, who else, who else, who else,
- 1:00:49RJ Harvey. You have a plethora of... Options
- 1:00:53when it comes to running back honestly when it
- 1:00:55comes to any of these positions But the question
- 1:00:58is which position do you want to address first
- 1:01:00in the draft me personally? I would say tight
- 1:01:03end. I think if you get Tyler Warren With their
- 1:01:07car. I think that would help out a lot Instead
- 1:01:10of you know putting Chris Alave in harm's way
- 1:01:13and throwing basically, you know hospital balls
- 1:01:16at him like No bringing a tight end or really
- 1:01:19productive, you know tight end. I think that
- 1:01:21would actually help out a lot Wide receiver,
- 1:01:24you can address that. Maybe the second or third
- 1:01:26round. Same thing with corner if you want to.
- 1:01:29Edge, you could probably do the same thing as
- 1:01:30well. You have Landon Jackson. You have Mike
- 1:01:33Green, which he may be a first round pick. You
- 1:01:36have James Pierce. You have the pass rusher from...
- 1:01:40Was it Alabama if I'm not mistaken I forgot what
- 1:01:43his first name is I know his last name is like
- 1:01:45Robinson like you have options You have a low
- 1:01:48you have a whole lot of options now when we look
- 1:01:50at candidates for restructure extension trays
- 1:01:53and cuts taste them hill I'm sorry. I have to
- 1:01:55cut you like I just said a few minutes ago. You're
- 1:01:58coming back from a serious leg injury and You're
- 1:02:02getting up in age and we need to get and this
- 1:02:04is a really good tight end class So your replacement
- 1:02:06will be drafted fairly high onto Chris Alave.
- 1:02:10So his market value was a little bit of a shocker,
- 1:02:13okay? His market value is three years, 53 .4
- 1:02:16million, which is 17 .8 million a year. I would
- 1:02:20have thought it would have been like 20, maybe
- 1:02:2125 million, but spot red may see something that
- 1:02:25I don't see, but I think if you do this now,
- 1:02:29you save yourself some money. Because if he has
- 1:02:31a baller of a season, We all know you're gonna
- 1:02:34have to pay more. You may have to pay twice,
- 1:02:37maybe even three times more, okay? Chase Young,
- 1:02:40extension. His market value, four years, 70 .1
- 1:02:44million, which is 17 .5 million a year. His actual
- 1:02:47extension was three years, 51 million, which
- 1:02:50is 17 million a year. So, all in all, it was
- 1:02:53around the same ballpark, which is not really
- 1:02:56bad. He's definitely trying to find a home. and
- 1:03:00I think New Orleans has definitely brought the
- 1:03:03best out of him since being with Washington,
- 1:03:05so let's just see what happens with this, okay?
- 1:03:09Now, all in all, from a team perspective, I think
- 1:03:14the number one thing that the Saints need to
- 1:03:15do is clean up your books. You have gone way
- 1:03:19too long of trying to just kick the can and trying
- 1:03:24to figure out, okay, how many restructures do
- 1:03:26we need to do just to be under CAP compliance?
- 1:03:29No. It's time for you to chip away some of some
- 1:03:32of that fat and get rid of any of those large
- 1:03:36Contracts that are plaguing you and clean up
- 1:03:39your books so that you can have a dense of cat
- 1:03:42space that way you can really Make some moves
- 1:03:44and really position yourself to be a really good
- 1:03:47team like you have been in the in the past But
- 1:03:50you can't do that if you continue to do restructure
- 1:03:52restructure restructure at some point That snowball
- 1:03:56is going to go from a little baby snowball to
- 1:03:59just this behemoth of a monster. And you don't
- 1:04:02want that. You don't want to be like the Browns
- 1:04:04who are basically in cap hell every single year
- 1:04:06and then find a way to get out of it just so
- 1:04:08they can go right back into it. You don't want
- 1:04:10that. Now, you did bring in a good coach. Let's
- 1:04:15see what happens with that. A little bit optimistic
- 1:04:18with it, but... Little bit worried, but we'll
- 1:04:20see what happens now the Panthers salary thirty
- 1:04:23six point one million rollover cap of four hundred
- 1:04:25and eighty four excuse me four hundred and ninety
- 1:04:28thousand three hundred and sixty eight dollars
- 1:04:30Okay, your free agents Andy Dalton Austin Corbett
- 1:04:34Brady Christensen Tommy Trimble Ian Thomas Philippe
- 1:04:38Franks David Moore Mike Boone Deshaun Williams
- 1:04:40Can Gill Shaq Thompson Mike Jackson Caleb Farrie
- 1:04:43Farley excuse me and Xavier was just to name
- 1:04:46a few okay Your draft picks you got your first
- 1:04:49your second your third you have two fourth round
- 1:04:51picks you have three fifth round picks You don't
- 1:04:54have a six, but you do have a seventh round pick.
- 1:04:56Okay positions of need I was a little bit stuck
- 1:04:58with this one. Okay wide receiver edge running
- 1:05:02back I was going to put tight end, but I was
- 1:05:05like, yeah They resigned Tommy Trimble. Yeah,
- 1:05:09I mean they had Jatavion Sanders as well to two
- 1:05:12really good productive tight ends and no need
- 1:05:15so when we look at this Me personally, and this
- 1:05:20is just my opinion, I could be wrong, I think
- 1:05:24they've done a good job this offseason so far.
- 1:05:27You've addressed the defense hard. You re -signed
- 1:05:31your number one corner. You've got some defensive
- 1:05:34linemen. You've brought in Trevon Moray. You've
- 1:05:37done some things, okay? But at this point, it's
- 1:05:41time for you to shift your focus to offense.
- 1:05:44Because that has been your problem for the last
- 1:05:46few years now. is the offense and so if we really
- 1:05:50want this Bryce Young experiment to work you
- 1:05:53have to give him adequate weapons especially
- 1:05:56with him being a smaller quarterback you have
- 1:05:59to give him better protection and you have to
- 1:06:01give him better weapons that is the only way
- 1:06:03that he is going to be able to survive he showed
- 1:06:05a lot of grit after being benched because during
- 1:06:10that first half of the season I was definitely
- 1:06:12under the impression that he was going to get
- 1:06:14traded because he was not playing well He looked
- 1:06:17like a deer in headlights at some games and he
- 1:06:19was getting just destroyed left and right. But
- 1:06:23the Panthers believed in him. They gave him time
- 1:06:25to work on his game and try to figure out, okay,
- 1:06:28what can we do to make you better? And ultimately
- 1:06:32it paid off. That second half of the season for
- 1:06:34the Panthers was amazing. They looked like a
- 1:06:37team that was together that they could defeat
- 1:06:40any team that they was going up against. That
- 1:06:42game against the Giants, and then what was it,
- 1:06:44either London or Germany? It was a really good
- 1:06:46game. That was a down to the wire type of game.
- 1:06:50That showed you, okay, Bryce Young has it. You
- 1:06:53just have to build off of that momentum. And
- 1:06:56so right now, you're at a crossroads where you
- 1:06:59have to figure out, okay, do we want to emphasize
- 1:07:01edge in the first round, or do we want to emphasize
- 1:07:03wide receiver in the first round? Excuse me.
- 1:07:06But the problem with this, as I've said before
- 1:07:09in previous episodes, and I will continue to
- 1:07:11say this until the birds come home, the receiver
- 1:07:14class in the first round specifically is not
- 1:07:17as strong as it has been in the last few years.
- 1:07:20But with the edge class, there's a lot of question
- 1:07:23marks with a lot of these prospects. Because
- 1:07:26some of these prospects were both outside linebackers
- 1:07:29and inside linebackers. Some of them were just
- 1:07:32lined up on the edge. It's a whole lot of uncertainty
- 1:07:35with certain people. Not to mention you have
- 1:07:39certain red flags that are starting to emerge
- 1:07:41with certain players. For instance, like James
- 1:07:44Pierce. Apparently he has a quote unquote attitude
- 1:07:46problem. I don't know why it's just coming out
- 1:07:49of all of a sudden now, but it's just a little
- 1:07:51bit weird. Okay. You have one of the Georgia
- 1:07:54edge rushers who they didn't even participate
- 1:07:57at their pro day. So you already know their draft
- 1:07:59stock is going to fall a little bit. So you're
- 1:08:01in a position where right now, yes, you have
- 1:08:03a high pick. You have, you have the eighth pick
- 1:08:06in the draft and you want to maximize that pick.
- 1:08:10So again, Panthers, what are you going to emphasize
- 1:08:14first receiver or edge? Because the problem with
- 1:08:20this is you can go about this a few different
- 1:08:22ways honestly You could go you can get someone
- 1:08:25like a Mike Green and James Pierce Jalen Walker
- 1:08:28Michael Williams Jihad Campbell if you want to
- 1:08:31you could do that or you could take a swing and
- 1:08:34maybe get somebody pretty high, you know, Matthew
- 1:08:36Golden or Luther Burden or a Tetsuro McMillan
- 1:08:39or a Mecca Bucca You could do that. So I say
- 1:08:44all that to say this Whoever they choose in the
- 1:08:48first round they're probably going to double
- 1:08:50dip in the second round for the other position
- 1:08:53so me personally my My thinking is they'll probably
- 1:08:58emphasize edge first and then they'll double
- 1:09:01dip at receiver because right now all they have
- 1:09:03is just Xavier LeGette and Adam Thielen both
- 1:09:05of whom are coming off of surgery so If you get
- 1:09:10someone like a Jayden Higgins and then you get
- 1:09:12someone else like a Jack Besh or Tess Johnson,
- 1:09:15Isaiah Bond or who else, who else, who else,
- 1:09:18who else? I know there's a few others, but Ty
- 1:09:21Filton for instance, if you get any of those
- 1:09:23guys and then you add to what you already have,
- 1:09:26that makes things a little bit better compared
- 1:09:29to not doing anything and just saying, okay,
- 1:09:32we did enough and let's just see what happens.
- 1:09:34No. Bryce Young is somebody that needs adequate
- 1:09:38weapons. Granted yes, Adam Thielen is coming
- 1:09:40back and he has shown a little bit of resurgence
- 1:09:43in his career But at the same time you have to
- 1:09:46continue to build and you have to give more weapons
- 1:09:49to your quarterback now running back Running
- 1:09:52back is a position that you can go about this
- 1:09:54a few different ways as well You can address
- 1:09:57it high in the second round or you can wait to
- 1:09:59maybe the fourth or fifth round if you want to
- 1:10:01Okay, because again, this is a really big Diverse
- 1:10:06running back class. Okay. It's not just a bunch
- 1:10:08of speedy running backs or a bunch of power backs
- 1:10:11like no you have Options. Okay, if you want a
- 1:10:14receiving back, there's one in there if you want
- 1:10:16a bruiser There's one in there if you want someone
- 1:10:19that can do everything. There's one in there
- 1:10:22Okay, so do you want to go after someone like
- 1:10:24a Mario or Hampton? Do you want to go after someone
- 1:10:26like a Devon Neil? Do you want to go after someone
- 1:10:28like a Taj Brooks a? RJ Harvey, who do you want
- 1:10:32to go with? Because as of right now, I think
- 1:10:35if you build off of what you have already with
- 1:10:39Chubba Hubbard, I think that would be great.
- 1:10:42Because if you pair Chubba Hubbard with, for
- 1:10:44instance, I don't know, Caleb Johnson or Omarion
- 1:10:47Hampton or Dylan Sampson, for instance, that's
- 1:10:51a pretty good run game. So I saw that to say
- 1:10:54this. Panthers continue to build. while at the
- 1:10:57same time emphasizing and giving Bryce Young
- 1:11:00more weapons. The more weapons that you give
- 1:11:02Bryce Young, the better results that you will
- 1:11:05get from him. And please, please, please, please,
- 1:11:08rely on the run game a little bit more too. Because
- 1:11:11again, you had Trevor Hubbard. Trevor Hubbard
- 1:11:13was playing really well. Rely on that run game.
- 1:11:16You want to be able to take the ball. out of
- 1:11:19Bryce Young's hands as much as possible. You
- 1:11:22don't want him to hold onto the ball as long
- 1:11:25as he did in the first half of the season. No,
- 1:11:27just do whatever. If it means you gotta give
- 1:11:29him another tight end, if it means you gotta
- 1:11:31give him another running back, whatever it is,
- 1:11:34just. do it okay but we have a little bit of
- 1:11:36some breaking news okay and that is derrick stingley
- 1:11:40has reset the cornerback market folks so he just
- 1:11:43inked a three -year 90 million dollar deal 89
- 1:11:48million guaranteed he'll be making 30 million
- 1:11:51a year okay when we look at his stats he was
- 1:11:53targeted 90 times and allowed 42 receptions for
- 1:11:57444 receiving yards for and five touchdowns okay
- 1:12:01he also had five picks Folks the price of the
- 1:12:06brick just went up. Okay, if You're sauce if
- 1:12:09you're a Tyree coolin if you're Isaiah McDuffie,
- 1:12:13and you're looking at this. Oh, this is a good
- 1:12:15day for you. Oh Yes, this is this is a Immaculate
- 1:12:19day for you because you know why the price just
- 1:12:22went up just a few more dollars and JC horn just
- 1:12:26reset the market this past week and Now Derek
- 1:12:30Stanley is doing it. So now The bar is set high
- 1:12:33where basically either Sausage is going to reset
- 1:12:36the market again, Isaiah McDuffie or Tyree Cullen.
- 1:12:39One of those three is going to reset the market.
- 1:12:42Now the question is who's going to do it? Now
- 1:12:45I can tell you this right now, the Chiefs are
- 1:12:47not going to pay McDuffie. I can assure you they
- 1:12:51will not be able to afford him. So most likely
- 1:12:54I wouldn't be surprised if he gets traded soon.
- 1:12:56Simply because they can't afford them because
- 1:12:58you're paying top dollar to patch my homes Travis
- 1:13:01Kelsey and Chris Jones so You got lots of you
- 1:13:07Man, you got a lot of tough decisions that you
- 1:13:09have to make you've already traded away one corner
- 1:13:12Because you guys couldn't afford him. So what
- 1:13:15are you gonna do now now for the Jets? You're
- 1:13:19staring at a bullet as well because why? You
- 1:13:22could have You could have taken care of this
- 1:13:25prior to this happening now that this has happened
- 1:13:28and if sauce has a crazy year we are talking
- 1:13:33about someone that is going to probably get 32
- 1:13:35maybe 33 million a year same thing with tari
- 1:13:37cool so if i'm a gm i'm a little bit frustrated
- 1:13:42this morning i'm a little bit angry this morning
- 1:13:44because why the prices went up so that means
- 1:13:47that the agents now they can go and say hey listen
- 1:13:51My client wants to do X Y Z my client wants this
- 1:13:54number this number just just went up Just it's
- 1:13:59just saying man just just saying but we also
- 1:14:01have some other breaking news that we have to
- 1:14:03talk about well It broke last night, but it's
- 1:14:05somewhat breaking this morning now that everybody
- 1:14:08is up in and whatnot T Higgins and Jamar Chase
- 1:14:11will be staying in Cincinnati Now when we look
- 1:14:15at these deals, okay, let's just start with T
- 1:14:17Higgins. So T Higgins inked a four -year $115
- 1:14:20million deal, which is $28 .7 million a year,
- 1:14:24okay? When we look at his stats, 73 receptions
- 1:14:27for 911 receiving yards, 10 touchdowns, and 12
- 1:14:31.5 receiving yards per reception. I was right.
- 1:14:36I was right. I knew for a fact that they were
- 1:14:39not going to crest over 30 million for T Higgins.
- 1:14:42He couldn't demand it. So all in all this is
- 1:14:46a really good deal for T Higgins. Now the thing
- 1:14:48is this according to Jordan Schultz The only
- 1:14:52years that are guaranteed are the first two years
- 1:14:55so What does that mean moving forward? I don't
- 1:14:59know, but that's just a little bit weird for
- 1:15:01me. Keep your eye on that Okay, put a bookmark
- 1:15:03on that. All right now Jamar chase, you know
- 1:15:05reset in the market. Okay four years 161 million
- 1:15:09he was making forty point two million a year.
- 1:15:12Okay his uh receptions his stats before we get
- 1:15:16to receptions 127 receptions for 1708 receiving
- 1:15:21yards 17 touchdowns and 13 .4 receiving yards
- 1:15:25per reception folks this is somebody that deserved
- 1:15:28the bag they didn't want to pay him last year
- 1:15:31he was like okay cool it's perfectly fine i'm
- 1:15:33gonna take a risk on myself and in doing so he
- 1:15:35won the triple crown and now he had a reset of
- 1:15:38the market folks jamar chase is that guy Hate
- 1:15:42to say it but Jamar chase is that guy? He is
- 1:15:47a dog and He is doing this in a very tough division
- 1:15:53and he is holding his own Great for them, but
- 1:15:58it's bad for the Bengals. Okay, and the reason
- 1:16:01why I say that is because You now have allocated
- 1:16:05at least 50 % or maybe even more of your cap
- 1:16:09space to three players Not to mention, you also
- 1:16:13have to find a way to pay who? Trey Hendrickson
- 1:16:16as well. Not to mention, because there's a little
- 1:16:19bit more with this, you haven't been really hitting
- 1:16:22on your draft picks lately, defensively. So right
- 1:16:25now, this means that for the rest of your team,
- 1:16:29everybody's probably going to be through the
- 1:16:31draft. So right now, if I'm the Bengals moving
- 1:16:35forward, if I'm the front office, scouts, whomever,
- 1:16:38We have to emphasize on better scouting and better
- 1:16:43drafting. Because that is the only way that they
- 1:16:47can mitigate the effects of these three deals.
- 1:16:50Because Joe Burrow is getting paid top dollar.
- 1:16:53Jamar Chase is getting paid top dollar. T Higgins
- 1:16:55is getting paid top dollar. All three of these
- 1:16:58guys are getting paid top dollar. And we're not
- 1:17:00even, we don't even know what's gonna happen
- 1:17:01with Trey Hendrickson. So you have to be able
- 1:17:04to start hitting on your draft picks. Because
- 1:17:07right now your defense is atrocious. Okay, Mike
- 1:17:11Hilton gone I couldn't even uh, who's who's there?
- 1:17:15Who's there? Who's there? Cam Taylor Brett is
- 1:17:17still there. Okay, that's fine out of him Who
- 1:17:20else do you have during your draft and miles
- 1:17:22Murphy maybe about two or three years ago? Okay,
- 1:17:25that that's fine. You resigned BJ Hill from free
- 1:17:28agency great But outside of that who else do
- 1:17:31you have nobody Jermaine Pratt still wants to
- 1:17:34get traded The other linebacker I forgot his
- 1:17:38name. I don't I couldn't even tell you I know
- 1:17:41his last name is Wilson I don't even know what's
- 1:17:44going on with him What exactly do the Bengals
- 1:17:48have defensively that makes people say that's
- 1:17:50gonna be a problem It's mainly the offense if
- 1:17:53this team does not score a 30 plus points a game.
- 1:17:56They're going to lose They're going to lose more
- 1:17:59games than win. So It's great for T Higgins and
- 1:18:03Jamar Chase. It's a great day for them But it's
- 1:18:05a horrible day for the Bengals coaching staff
- 1:18:07because now they have to figure out what can
- 1:18:09they do to? Maximize what they have on on defense.
- 1:18:14I would not be surprised if this entire draft
- 1:18:17is Just strictly just defensive players. That's
- 1:18:20how bad their defense is gonna be this year,
- 1:18:22but let's get back into the divisional rodeo
- 1:18:27Folks and we have to go over The candidates for
- 1:18:31either restructure, extension, trades, and cuts
- 1:18:33for the Panthers. You thought I was done with
- 1:18:35the Panthers? No, we are not. I just had to break
- 1:18:37that news, okay? So when we look at it, Taylor
- 1:18:39Morton, you could probably give him an extension.
- 1:18:42When we look at his market value, according to
- 1:18:44the spot rack, it's only three years, 50 .7 million,
- 1:18:46which is only 16 .9 million a year. He's been
- 1:18:50a pretty good right tackle. I mean, you might
- 1:18:53as well just want to keep him and make him a
- 1:18:55Panther for life. Might as well. Jadevion Clowney,
- 1:18:58extension. Question mark. And the only reason
- 1:19:01why I say that is because Do you want to continue
- 1:19:05to have Jadavia Clowney on the team or do you
- 1:19:08want to get younger and a little bit cheaper?
- 1:19:10That's the question because right now his market
- 1:19:13value is estimated at two years 22 .8 million,
- 1:19:17which is 11 .4 million a year. That's not bad
- 1:19:20That's actually pretty good. Okay to me that
- 1:19:22seems team friendly ish, but the question is
- 1:19:27How does the Panthers feel about Jadevion Clowney
- 1:19:29right now? Do they want him to play out the rest
- 1:19:32of his deal or do they want to try to, you know,
- 1:19:35lock things up and just have him retire as a
- 1:19:38Panther? That's the question moving forward.
- 1:19:40Equine Equanu, either an extension or pick up
- 1:19:44his fifth year option. One of the two. But if
- 1:19:47you pick up his fifth year option that buys you
- 1:19:50another year, but at the same time you run the
- 1:19:52risk of possibly paying more than what you probably
- 1:19:55could have paid right now. So all in all, you
- 1:20:01do have, you know, two tackles that are probably
- 1:20:03going to be looking to get paid. You do have
- 1:20:04an edge rusher that you could probably pay right
- 1:20:06now. It's not that bad. OK, they've made a lot
- 1:20:10of investment into the defense this offseason.
- 1:20:13So will that trend continue? I don't know, but
- 1:20:16hopefully they make some more investments into
- 1:20:19the offense, please. Bryce Young's ankle now
- 1:20:22on to the Buccaneers Okay, so their salary cap
- 1:20:25negative nine point four million with a rollover
- 1:20:27cap of six point six million free agents Chase
- 1:20:31Edmonds William Goldston Shag Barrett Troy Hill
- 1:20:34Sterling Shepard will actually he just ain't
- 1:20:35an extension I think late last week Bryce Hall
- 1:20:38Mike Edwards Eric Bates Ryan Neil and Jordan
- 1:20:41Whitehead just to name a few okay draft picks
- 1:20:44They got their first their second their third
- 1:20:46their fourth their fifth. They don't have a sixth
- 1:20:49and they do have a seventh round pick, okay?
- 1:20:51Positions of knee, edge, interior offensive line,
- 1:20:54tight end, corner, safety. Now this is probably
- 1:20:56a little bit controversial, but I really don't
- 1:20:58care because why? We like controversy over here
- 1:21:00at the Football Junkies podcast, okay? So with
- 1:21:03edge, yes, you could do it in the first round.
- 1:21:09The question is, who do you really like out of
- 1:21:12all these edge rushers, okay? Because you have
- 1:21:15options, you have... Mike Green, you have James
- 1:21:17Pierce, you have Michael Williams, you have Jalen
- 1:21:19Walker, you have Shamar Stewart, you have Lyndon
- 1:21:22Jackson, you have the patch rusher from Boston
- 1:21:26College as well, you have the patch rusher from
- 1:21:28Alabama, you have options, okay? The question
- 1:21:32is this, do you want to invest a first round
- 1:21:35pick in Edge? Me personally, maybe not. There
- 1:21:40is a position that I did leave out. I want to
- 1:21:43run with you guys. I just need you to walk with
- 1:21:45me for a second. Okay, just hear me out linebacker
- 1:21:49inside linebacker and the only reason why I say
- 1:21:52that is because The Buccaneers have had a rich
- 1:21:55history when it comes to their linebackers from
- 1:21:58Derek Brooks to Levante David To even Derek White
- 1:22:02when when he was actually playing pretty good
- 1:22:04they have emphasized middle linebacker and so
- 1:22:10You have someone like Jiha Campbell who you probably
- 1:22:13could get I'm just saying the Vonte David is
- 1:22:18Year -to -year at this point in his career. Okay,
- 1:22:21if you bring in someone like a Jiha Campbell
- 1:22:23I think that would be great because Levante David
- 1:22:26can show him the Buccaneers way it can show him.
- 1:22:29Hey, this is how I You know run the defense is
- 1:22:32how I you know do the play calling and you know
- 1:22:35this I work with you know this side and that
- 1:22:37side all those different things because Outside
- 1:22:41of jihad Campbell and outside Levante David who
- 1:22:44else do you really have on the Buccaneers as
- 1:22:47far as the interior? Linebacker core that you
- 1:22:50can really rely on sure you can bring back Devon
- 1:22:53White, but does Devon White really want to come
- 1:22:54back I don't know now back to the position of
- 1:22:58me that I listed okay? Interior offensive line,
- 1:23:02two names, Gray Zabel, Tyler Booker. Those two
- 1:23:06right there, to me, are first rounders. So the
- 1:23:09question is this, do you want to put a first
- 1:23:13round pick on an interior offensive lineman?
- 1:23:15Personally, I would, because Tyler Booker...
- 1:23:18I love his mentality. His mentality is, I'm going
- 1:23:22to impose my will upon you. I am going to crush
- 1:23:26you. I am going to dominate you. From the minute
- 1:23:29the ball is hiked, I am putting you in the ground.
- 1:23:33That is his mindset. Gray Zabel, I love his positional
- 1:23:38flexibility. Gray Zabel originally is considered
- 1:23:42a tackle, but during the combine, they had him
- 1:23:44practicing a lot of them. Interior stuff as well
- 1:23:47as doing center snaps and then in the senior
- 1:23:50bowl as well. They had him inside at guard So
- 1:23:53I think getting someone like a gray sable could
- 1:23:55possibly work as well but the question is How
- 1:24:00high do you want to emphasize interior offensive
- 1:24:02line now me personally? This is my personal opinion.
- 1:24:04I always emphasize offensive line very high because
- 1:24:09The offensive line is the nucleus of the offense.
- 1:24:14Okay, really think about this for a second And
- 1:24:16somebody else explained that I forgot what video
- 1:24:20it was, but they basically broke it down like
- 1:24:22this. Without the offensive line, the quarterback
- 1:24:26can't do his job. The receiver can't get the
- 1:24:28ball. The running back can do his job. The tight
- 1:24:31end can't do his job. Nobody else can do their
- 1:24:33job without what? The offensive line. So you
- 1:24:36have to make sure that the offensive line is
- 1:24:38good enough for everybody else to do their role.
- 1:24:42And so we have seen with the Eagles. in recent
- 1:24:45years how they emphasize both the offensive and
- 1:24:48defensive line so much and it's paid off phenomenally
- 1:24:51because why? quarterback play is really good
- 1:24:54so i think you have to make that investment at
- 1:24:56some point now you could wait into the second
- 1:25:02or third round if you want to because i don't
- 1:25:04think both of them will be drafted in the first
- 1:25:06round But do you really want to take that risk
- 1:25:09because there are some really good interior offensive
- 1:25:12linemen in the second and third round I'm not
- 1:25:14just discounting them as well, but it's just
- 1:25:16something about Tyler Booker and Graves Able
- 1:25:18that just Separate themselves from everybody
- 1:25:21else. Okay. Now when we look at tight end tight
- 1:25:24end is something that you can address in the
- 1:25:26first three rounds Okay. Now with the first round
- 1:25:29you have options with both Tyler Warren and Colston
- 1:25:31Loveland In the second round, you have Harold
- 1:25:33Fanon Jr., Mason Taylor, and the tight end from
- 1:25:37Miami. So you have options there, okay? Me personally,
- 1:25:41I think if you bring in someone like a Tyler
- 1:25:44Warren, or Harold Fanon Jr., or Colston Loveland,
- 1:25:48I think it would make Baker Mayfield's job a
- 1:25:50lot easier because remember, when Baker was in
- 1:25:52Cleveland, who did he have that tied in? David
- 1:25:54Njoku. And so I think if you bring in someone
- 1:25:57like a David Njoku in, not saying... the real
- 1:26:01David and Joku, but bringing someone like a Tyler
- 1:26:03Warren or Colston Loveland, I think that will
- 1:26:05work out as well. Because this offense is really
- 1:26:08good, you just have to continue to build off
- 1:26:10of it, okay? Corner, yes, corner. Here's the
- 1:26:17problem with corner, okay? There's not as many
- 1:26:21first round degraded corners in this draft. And
- 1:26:24the people that are graded as first rounders,
- 1:26:26to me, will probably fall. And the reason why
- 1:26:29I say that is because, for one, injury red flags,
- 1:26:35okay? Will Johnson, injury red flags, Benjamin
- 1:26:38Morrison, injury red flags, Siobhan Revel coming
- 1:26:40off an ACL injury. Trey Amos is the only one
- 1:26:43that's not really being talked about this much
- 1:26:45that I love that I think he could probably be
- 1:26:47a first rounder for sure. So... Outside of those
- 1:26:50guys, and oh, I forgot Ezra Thomas as well, but
- 1:26:53some people say Ezra Thomas is a second -rounder.
- 1:26:56I don't see how. Jade Baron and Maxwell Harrison,
- 1:27:00to me, are probably first -round and graded corners.
- 1:27:04Everybody else, you can make an argument for,
- 1:27:07but I feel like those two, those are for sure
- 1:27:11first -rounders in my book. I think you do need
- 1:27:15to make a high investment into corner at this
- 1:27:18point. But at the same time, if you don't want
- 1:27:21to address in the first round, that's perfectly
- 1:27:22fine. You can address in the second round, because
- 1:27:24you have Darian Porter, you have Kobe Bryant,
- 1:27:27you have Quincy Riley, you have Ezra Thomas,
- 1:27:30because I think Ezra Thomas may fall. I think
- 1:27:32Siobhan Revel may fall. I think Benjamin Morrison
- 1:27:34may fall out of the first round as well. So you
- 1:27:37have options there as well, but I feel like you
- 1:27:39do need to make an emphasis into, okay. Now safety,
- 1:27:44safety's a little bit tricky. Because sure you
- 1:27:47have Antoine landfill junior, but you still need
- 1:27:51to bring in somebody else. Okay, Jordan Whitehead
- 1:27:54I Don't think they're probably gonna bring them
- 1:27:57back if they do it'll probably be somewhat of
- 1:27:59like a mid camp signing Honestly, but if that
- 1:28:03doesn't happen, I feel like you do need a draft
- 1:28:05one And so you do have options, you know, you
- 1:28:07have you have a man from South Carolina You know
- 1:28:10I'm saying you can get him That could be your
- 1:28:12first rounder, okay? You have Malachi Starks.
- 1:28:16You also have the safety from Penn State. You
- 1:28:19have the safety from Saxis. Makuba, I think,
- 1:28:23is his last name. You have Malachi Moore from
- 1:28:25Alabama. You have options at safety. And so,
- 1:28:29if you don't want to dress in the first round,
- 1:28:31that's perfectly fine. I feel like all those
- 1:28:33other safeties will be available in the second
- 1:28:35and third round as well. But all in all, Think
- 1:28:39the point that I'm trying to get with the Buccaneers
- 1:28:41is you have Flexibility with with what positions
- 1:28:45that you want to address first, okay? I think
- 1:28:48that's the the main takeaway of this Because
- 1:28:51they're in a position where sure they don't have
- 1:28:53to address this position in that position high
- 1:28:55in the first round They can wait if they if they
- 1:28:58really want to but at the same time I feel like
- 1:29:01whatever the position that you're trying to address
- 1:29:04first in the first round Think you need to be
- 1:29:06a little bit aggressive with it Okay, because
- 1:29:09you have the 19th pick which is sort of like
- 1:29:12middle of the pack sort of low But at the same
- 1:29:16time you're still in a good spot where if you
- 1:29:18wanted to You can move up two or three spots
- 1:29:20and you can go and get your guy That's just me
- 1:29:23personally. Okay now when we look at candidates
- 1:29:26for restructure extension trades and cuts me
- 1:29:29personally I feel like the Buccaneers have to
- 1:29:32find a way to create some cash base because again,
- 1:29:35free agency is not over with, okay? That's just
- 1:29:37the first wave. We all know the first wave is
- 1:29:39somewhat of the biggest wave, okay? That's when
- 1:29:41our phones are blowing up and everything. But
- 1:29:44you still have free agency. So with that in mind,
- 1:29:47you want to have a little bit of money to play
- 1:29:49with, okay? So Cade Odden, you can give him an
- 1:29:52extension, okay? His market value is not that
- 1:29:54high. Three years, $36 .5 million, which is only
- 1:29:57$12 .2 million a year. That's not bad. That's
- 1:29:59actually really good, okay? Baker Mayfield, I
- 1:30:02feel like you can restructure his deal, create
- 1:30:04a little bit of cap space. Vita Vea, you can
- 1:30:07either do an extension or you can do a restructure
- 1:30:09with his deal. Sterling Shepard, we already know
- 1:30:12he signed an extension with the Buccaneers to
- 1:30:16stay with him. But all in all, I trust the Buccaneers,
- 1:30:20okay? The Buccaneers in recent years have definitely
- 1:30:24made a great shift. Ever since the Tom Brady
- 1:30:28years we have seen more consistency with the
- 1:30:32Buccaneers. We have seen better play from the
- 1:30:36Buccaneers. I think overall we've just seen a
- 1:30:38better version of the Buccaneers because there
- 1:30:40was a point in time where they were somewhat
- 1:30:42of the the stepping stool for their division
- 1:30:45for the entire league because they can never
- 1:30:47get their act together. And so now that they've,
- 1:30:51you know, they won a Super Bowl in recent years
- 1:30:53and they then went through, you know, what they
- 1:30:56went through, I think they're in a really good
- 1:30:58space. And I think if they continue to build
- 1:31:01off of what they have right now, I think they
- 1:31:03could be legitimate contenders because let's
- 1:31:06not forget, they've been having the Eagles number
- 1:31:08in recent years. They've been beating up on a
- 1:31:11lot of these top NFC teams. So they are still
- 1:31:15a dark horse in my mind until you know until
- 1:31:19something crazy happens okay but do not sleep
- 1:31:22on the buccaneers the buccaneers have been giving
- 1:31:24people trouble in the last few years okay now
- 1:31:27on to the falcons okay the falcons the fail kids
- 1:31:32okay These guys, what can we say that has already
- 1:31:37never been said about the Falcons? Choke artists
- 1:31:40maybe? 28 .3? Sorry Falcons, I just had to do
- 1:31:45that. You guys choked in the Super Bowl. Ah man,
- 1:31:52you guys, you guys, you guys. Okay, so your salary,
- 1:31:56negative 1 .5 million with a rollover cap of
- 1:31:586 million. Your free agents Matthew Jude on Justin
- 1:32:01Simmons Lorenzo Carter Makaya Abernathy Robert
- 1:32:05Burns Damone Harris Antonio Hamilton Harrison
- 1:32:09hand just to name a few okay your draft picks
- 1:32:12you got your first your second You don't have
- 1:32:14a third you have your fourth you have a fifth
- 1:32:17you don't have a sixth, but you have two seventh
- 1:32:19-round picks Okay, positions of need everything.
- 1:32:22I'm just joking. I'm just joking Let me be serious.
- 1:32:26I'm trying to be serious, okay? Positions of
- 1:32:27need, defensive line, wide receiver, tight end,
- 1:32:30center, and safety, okay? Here is the problem
- 1:32:33with the Falcons, okay? You allocated money to
- 1:32:37the wrong person. You should have never given
- 1:32:40that money to Kirk Cousins because now you guys
- 1:32:43are stuck in a nasty situation where right now,
- 1:32:47he wants to go. But the problem is one of his
- 1:32:51bonuses just kicked in this past weekend. So
- 1:32:53that's ten million dollars That's just been wired
- 1:32:55to his account So right now you guys are trying
- 1:32:58to figure out exactly how can you make this marriage
- 1:33:01work? Because at first it was all sunshine and
- 1:33:04rainbows and everybody was loving each other
- 1:33:07and posting everything and whatnot now It's just
- 1:33:09a nasty situation where both of you guys are
- 1:33:13just sleeping in separate beds and trying to
- 1:33:15figure out how can we just mingle with one another
- 1:33:18so Here is the situation Sure, you are in a good
- 1:33:23space somewhat But the problem is you got to
- 1:33:27emphasize a lot on your defense because your
- 1:33:29defense was atrocious And it also doesn't help
- 1:33:32that you just let Grady Jarrett just walk You
- 1:33:35didn't even try to figure something out with
- 1:33:37his contractual situation. You just let him walk
- 1:33:40so now you basically have to figure out what
- 1:33:43you're going to do with your defensive line as
- 1:33:45well as linebacker corner and a few other spots.
- 1:33:49Sure, you brought in Mike Hughes, which was a
- 1:33:51pretty good signing and whatnot, but the fact
- 1:33:53of the matter is, the defense was not able to
- 1:33:56create a lot of pressure on the quarterback,
- 1:33:58and it showed. Now when they made the trade for
- 1:34:00Matthew Judon, I was under the impression, oh,
- 1:34:04Judon's gonna have this great year, he's gonna
- 1:34:06show why he's still one of those guys, all those
- 1:34:08things and more. He didn't do that, he did not
- 1:34:11do that. So now you have to figure out. How can
- 1:34:14we make this defense better than what it was
- 1:34:17the last two years? The question is this. How
- 1:34:22high do you want to emphasize your defensive
- 1:34:24needs? Because safety, you could address that
- 1:34:28high. Defensive line, you could address that
- 1:34:31at any point in the draft. Just being honest
- 1:34:35here, okay? but you have to do something you
- 1:34:38have to be able to emphasize on creating more
- 1:34:42pressure and getting after the quarterback because
- 1:34:45you weren't able to do it and That is the only
- 1:34:48way that you are able to really win games at
- 1:34:51this point If you don't have a legitimate pass
- 1:34:53rush, guess what you're finito. You're done.
- 1:34:55You're not gonna be playing in February You're
- 1:34:57definitely not gonna be playing in January. All
- 1:34:59right, we've seen it multiple times so right
- 1:35:03now If I am the Falcons, I probably want to emphasize
- 1:35:06defensive line high. And I'm probably going to
- 1:35:10double, maybe even triple dip at defensive line.
- 1:35:13And the only reason why I say that is because
- 1:35:15this is a really good defensive line class. You
- 1:35:18have options, okay, both first, second, third,
- 1:35:21fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth round if
- 1:35:23you really want to. So you have to make that
- 1:35:26emphasis on defensive line. Now you have Kenneth
- 1:35:30Grant, you have Derek Harman, you have Mason
- 1:35:32Graham, which I don't think they'll be able to
- 1:35:33get Mason Graham, but I've seen crazier things.
- 1:35:36You have Ineas Pebbles, you have Derrick Alexander,
- 1:35:39you have Jordan Phillips, you have Alfer Collins,
- 1:35:42you have a plethora of defensive linemen that
- 1:35:45you need to pluck at least two of them. Same
- 1:35:48thing with pass rush. I feel like you probably
- 1:35:50need to get an edge rusher as well, because I
- 1:35:54don't think you guys are bringing back Matthew
- 1:35:55Judon, so you need to bring in somebody else.
- 1:35:59And you really need to just really just figure
- 1:36:01out what you're going to do with this defense
- 1:36:03like I Knew they were serious about the defense
- 1:36:07when reports were coming out during the combine
- 1:36:10that They have basically shifted all of their
- 1:36:13coaching focus to the defensive prospects Not
- 1:36:16the offensive prospects that let me know. Oh
- 1:36:19this whole defense is about to go through a 360
- 1:36:22makeover. Okay, it's about to be like that one
- 1:36:24show back in the day I think what was it extreme
- 1:36:27home makeover were like they send them away for
- 1:36:29like a week like a weekend or something and you
- 1:36:32know They're doing all this hard work and rebuilding
- 1:36:34their house and once everything is over They
- 1:36:36say move this bus move this bus the bus moves.
- 1:36:40It's a whole bunch of emotions I know I know
- 1:36:42I'm going off on a tangent, but that's basically
- 1:36:44what needs to happen with the Falcons at this
- 1:36:46point because right now you guys are in a situation
- 1:36:51where for one you're trying to figure out exactly
- 1:36:54if Kirk causes wants to stay on or not while
- 1:36:57at the same time trying to just make things a
- 1:37:01little bit more comfortable with this whole transition
- 1:37:03process between Arthur Smith and their new head
- 1:37:06coach like it's a lot of transitions a lot of
- 1:37:08change going on in a very small amount of time
- 1:37:11Okay, some people have left some people have
- 1:37:13been traded some people are still on the team
- 1:37:15But you're everyone is still trying to find their
- 1:37:18way. So the question is What do you guys want
- 1:37:22to emphasize first in the draft? Okay, because
- 1:37:25right now there's only maybe Three well, no,
- 1:37:30there's maybe like two or three positions of
- 1:37:32need right now that you probably could legitimately
- 1:37:34address in the first round Why receiver to me?
- 1:37:37Feel like you have to do it in the first round
- 1:37:39and the only reason why I say that is because
- 1:37:42the amount of money that you gave Kirk Cousins
- 1:37:44You could have gotten a number one receiver for
- 1:37:46that because right now You still don't know what
- 1:37:50you have with Kyle Pitts sure you have Drake
- 1:37:52London sure you have What's his name? I knew
- 1:37:56I'm forgetting his name. I know I'm forgetting
- 1:37:57his name I can't remember his name. It'll probably
- 1:38:00come back to me. Maybe about 30 seconds or whatever,
- 1:38:02but You have Bijan Robinson, you have Kyle Pitts,
- 1:38:06and you have Drake London. More. You need more.
- 1:38:11That is the only way this team can go higher.
- 1:38:15So me personally, I feel like if they get someone
- 1:38:17like a Matthew Golden, I think that would be
- 1:38:20lethal. I think if they get someone like a Swiss
- 1:38:22Army Knife and a Mecca Bucca, that would be lethal
- 1:38:25as well. But you do need to bring in at least
- 1:38:27maybe two receivers, at least, possibly. Defensive
- 1:38:31line. We've already went over that tight end.
- 1:38:34I will be controversial. You should address in
- 1:38:36the first round I think you should I think at
- 1:38:38this point You have question marks with Kyle
- 1:38:41Pitts You would have thought by now Kyle Pitts
- 1:38:43would have had at least one dominant season,
- 1:38:46but he hasn't So right now you have to either
- 1:38:50a figure out if he can be you know At least workable
- 1:38:54at receiver or something you have to figure out
- 1:38:57exactly what you want to do and so me personally
- 1:39:00I'm drafting a tight end in the first round.
- 1:39:03I'm getting either Tyler Warren or Colston Levin,
- 1:39:05one of those guys. And we're going to have competition.
- 1:39:07We're going to figure out exactly, are you tight
- 1:39:10end one or not? Because right now, you have all
- 1:39:13the intangibles to be a top 10 tight end. But
- 1:39:17you have not shown it. I don't know if it's because
- 1:39:20of a new system. I don't know if he's still trying
- 1:39:22to get his feet wet. I don't know what's going
- 1:39:24on. But at this point, There's still a lot of
- 1:39:27question marks with Kyle Pitts So I think it's
- 1:39:30just time for the team just going a different
- 1:39:31direction me personally I would have thought
- 1:39:33Kyle Pitts would have been traded last season
- 1:39:35but clearly I think the I'm gonna say the Panthers
- 1:39:39clearly the Falcons still believe in him and
- 1:39:41clearly they still see something in him that
- 1:39:43they like so Let's just see what happens with
- 1:39:45that now center Center is tricky and I only I
- 1:39:50only say that because I haven't really looked
- 1:39:52at a lot of center prospects I do know during
- 1:39:55the combine there was maybe about five to ten
- 1:39:58guards that were practicing at center. I do know
- 1:40:01Graves Able and Tyler Booker were one of the
- 1:40:04two that was pulled to the side to be tried out
- 1:40:06as guard. My only problem with this, I would
- 1:40:10have tried to lock up Drew Dalman. I would have
- 1:40:13not allowed him to hit free agency only because
- 1:40:15now he's in a better situation. Now he's the
- 1:40:18center for the Bears, and that Bears offensive
- 1:40:20line looks a whole lot better. Granted, I understand
- 1:40:22you put a lot of money behind Jake Matthews and
- 1:40:24Chris Lindstrom. I understand that. But at the
- 1:40:27same time, it is very rare for centers to hit
- 1:40:30free agency. And if they do, it's one of two
- 1:40:33things. Either they're too expensive, injury
- 1:40:36prone, or they're just not that good. But Drew
- 1:40:39Dorman has been a really good center. Center
- 1:40:42is something that you could probably address
- 1:40:44maybe in the third maybe fourth round if you
- 1:40:47really wanted to But I'll probably have to look
- 1:40:51at center prospects probably this weekend probably
- 1:40:54give you my honest opinion about a few but safety
- 1:40:58as I've said before Safety is something that
- 1:41:02you can address, you know in the first three
- 1:41:04rounds if you really wanted to the question is
- 1:41:07Do you value Malachi, Starks and Eman over all
- 1:41:11of your other positional needs or not? Because
- 1:41:13me personally, I feel like defensive line, wide
- 1:41:16receiver and tight end, maybe even center, maybe
- 1:41:18a little bit higher on my draft board than maybe
- 1:41:21safety. I feel like you could probably get someone
- 1:41:23like a Malachi more and I think you can make
- 1:41:26it work because you do have Jesse Bates. So I
- 1:41:28mean, that is a pillar back there in the safety
- 1:41:31room. You just need to get somebody else. Now,
- 1:41:34when we look at candidates for restructure, extension,
- 1:41:37trades, or cuts, I would have said her cousins
- 1:41:40for trade, but at this point, no one wants to
- 1:41:43pick up that contract. It's a bad contract. His
- 1:41:46cap hit this year 40 million, and then next year,
- 1:41:5057 .5 for both 2026 and 2027. His base salary
- 1:41:56this year is only 27 .5, and then next year,
- 1:41:59it's 35 million. It's a bad contract, and it's
- 1:42:02been a bad contract. And I don't think nobody
- 1:42:05is going to be willing to give up compensation
- 1:42:07to get Kirk Cousins at this point. It was a flop
- 1:42:10of a free agency signing. Now, I understand a
- 1:42:15lot of people want to try and, you know, bolster
- 1:42:18up their team as quickly as possible. And I understand
- 1:42:20that. And I get that. But why in the world would
- 1:42:23you pay the amount of money that you paid for
- 1:42:26Kirk Cousins and then in that same year for the
- 1:42:30draft, you draft Michael Pinnix high? What sense
- 1:42:33does that make? And you didn't even deliberate
- 1:42:35it with Kirk Cousins. So in his mind, he's thinking,
- 1:42:39oh, I'm going to be the starting quarterback
- 1:42:41moving forward. No. Your replacement is right
- 1:42:45behind you, buddy. So at this point, I think
- 1:42:50you may have to cut your losses, take on that
- 1:42:52dead cap hit, and just let him go. Because he
- 1:42:54continues to emphasize that he feels like he
- 1:42:56is a starting caliber quarterback. Now we all
- 1:42:59know Kirk Cousins went through a dry spell last
- 1:43:02year where he didn't throw not one touchdown.
- 1:43:05So as much as I would love for him to stay and
- 1:43:09he can be a mentor to Michael Pinnix and he could
- 1:43:11be a good backup option, at this point you have
- 1:43:14to figure out what you can do with this contract
- 1:43:16before we move forward with anything. Because
- 1:43:19right now this contract is a major roadblock
- 1:43:23for any team to be interested in trying to make
- 1:43:26a move for Kirk Cousins. Now when we look at
- 1:43:28Drake London, I would say an extension. Get it
- 1:43:32over with now, especially with Jamar Chase and
- 1:43:34T Higgins getting their deal. Get it over with
- 1:43:36now. His market value, four years, 95 .3 million,
- 1:43:40which is only 23 .8 million a year. That's not
- 1:43:42bad. That's actually really good. Drake London
- 1:43:45isn't a one. Drake London is probably a two or
- 1:43:47three on anybody else's team. Just saying. Just
- 1:43:52listen. Don't fight me, please. Please. Caden
- 1:43:55Ellis extension Ray Ray McLeod extension Caleb
- 1:43:59McGarry extension his market value three years
- 1:44:0451 .8 million which is 17 .3 million a year These
- 1:44:09are fairly good contracts. These are not you
- 1:44:11know exuberant contracts. Okay, Chris Lindstrom
- 1:44:15I feel like you can give him a restructure Because
- 1:44:18man, oh man his contract is crazy. Okay His base
- 1:44:23salary this year 14 .5 and then the next year
- 1:44:2516 and then 2027 15 .7 and then 2028 17 .2. His
- 1:44:31cap hits this year 22 .2 million and then next
- 1:44:34year is 23 .7 and then the year after that is
- 1:44:3725 .5 and then the year after that is 21 .5.
- 1:44:41I feel like you could probably do something with
- 1:44:43that contract. I feel like it's a little bit
- 1:44:45more easier to work with. That way you could
- 1:44:47probably maybe convert a lot of his money into
- 1:44:50a signing bonus or do something with it, but
- 1:44:53The Falcons have to figure out a way to one create
- 1:44:56cap space Be more consistent when it comes to
- 1:45:00their drafting and free agency signings while
- 1:45:03at the same time Just be a better football team
- 1:45:06because right now you guys have just been flopping
- 1:45:09at quarterback Since Matt Ryan left you didn't
- 1:45:12want to get Lamar which was by far the dumbest
- 1:45:16decision that you could have ever ever did and
- 1:45:19instead you decide to be in the sweepstakes for
- 1:45:21Deshaun Watson you get burned with that okay
- 1:45:25cool so now you get Arthur Smith and now Arthur
- 1:45:28Smith doesn't want to draft a quarterback even
- 1:45:29though he could have drafted Justin Fields and
- 1:45:32instead he gets Desmond Redder and then he gets
- 1:45:34Marcus Mariota and then he gets Taylor Heinecke
- 1:45:36did that work? No it didn't And so now you're
- 1:45:40in a situation where guess what? You paid X amount
- 1:45:44of dollars to Kirk Cousins while at the same
- 1:45:46time you drafted Michael Penick's high. And now
- 1:45:48you're trying to figure out exactly what are
- 1:45:50you going to do moving forward at quarterback.
- 1:45:53You have been whiffing on quarterback hard. It
- 1:45:56is time for you guys to figure out exactly what
- 1:45:59direction you want this team to go to. Because
- 1:46:02right now you guys have been very mediocre for
- 1:46:05the last maybe four or five years. It's time
- 1:46:08to get your act together. The problem with the
- 1:46:10Falcons is, sure you have a lot of good pieces,
- 1:46:14but you've been going through a lot of transition
- 1:46:17within the past maybe four to five years. You
- 1:46:19know, the Arthur Smith and just how horrible
- 1:46:23that time was and now you got the new head coach.
- 1:46:26Like, it's a lot of turnover. I don't see being
- 1:46:29this super dominant team that they used to be
- 1:46:31in the early 2000s and somewhat in the 2010s.
- 1:46:34I don't see it no more. they're going to have
- 1:46:37to show me that they're really serious. Now,
- 1:46:39depending on what they do in the draft, will
- 1:46:41definitely let me know how serious they are about
- 1:46:43winning. Because I think if they address a lot
- 1:46:46of their needs fairly high in the draft, I think
- 1:46:49they can position themselves really good. I do
- 1:46:51feel like they can be the third best team in
- 1:46:54their division. I really do. But you've got to
- 1:46:58get your act together, man. You've got to figure
- 1:47:00out what you want to do with quarterback. You've
- 1:47:02got to bring in more weapons from Michael Pennings.
- 1:47:04You have to figure out what you're doing with
- 1:47:05Kyle Pitts. If you don't believe in him, send
- 1:47:07him somewhere else. And for the love of God,
- 1:47:10please get adequate pass rushers for this defense.
- 1:47:14We all know and we all see that guess what? Pass
- 1:47:17rushers are getting the big bucks because why?
- 1:47:19They are the game changers, game closers, and
- 1:47:22they are game wreckers. OK? And you don't have
- 1:47:25one on your team right now. I know I was forgetting
- 1:47:27a few other things that we had to talk about
- 1:47:29because I know I was probably skipping around
- 1:47:31but we have to talk about the love triangle that
- 1:47:34is with Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson and
- 1:47:37the Vikings and Giants and Steelers okay so at
- 1:47:41this point there's a lot of uncertainty with
- 1:47:43that entire situation you have reports that are
- 1:47:46detailing and saying that you know, the Vikings
- 1:47:51are like lurking around for Aaron Rodgers. Aaron
- 1:47:54Rodgers is waiting to see if the Vikings, you
- 1:47:56know, want to try to do business with him. If
- 1:47:58not, he may try to go into retirement. You got
- 1:48:01a picture of him on a beach with some old school
- 1:48:04Apple headphones staring into the sunset. You
- 1:48:07just have a whole lot of drama. So I'm gonna
- 1:48:09try to break it down as best as possible. I'm
- 1:48:10just gonna give my opinions on this, okay? So
- 1:48:13here's the thing. So what's the Russell Wilson
- 1:48:15situation specifically? I feel like, and I want
- 1:48:19to emphasize this, I don't have any sources,
- 1:48:21I feel like the one thing that really killed
- 1:48:24his chances of going back to the Steelers was
- 1:48:27when his camp leaked out the report that him
- 1:48:31and Arthur Smith was not getting along. I think
- 1:48:33that was the worst thing that he could have ever
- 1:48:35did because why? It basically blacklisted you
- 1:48:38from the Steelers because you have people with...
- 1:48:41in the front office and within the locker room
- 1:48:43that were feeling some type of way about it because
- 1:48:45it's like, bro, why would you put out something
- 1:48:47like that? And so I feel like had he not put
- 1:48:50that out, I think he would have already been
- 1:48:52the stealer by now. But because he did that,
- 1:48:55I think they sort of like put him on the back
- 1:48:58burner. He went to Cleveland, didn't get a deal.
- 1:49:01He went to New York, didn't get a deal. And New
- 1:49:03York is still bringing in people. New York brought
- 1:49:06in Jameis Winston and they brought in Joe Flacco
- 1:49:08for a visit. So I say all that to say this, Russ,
- 1:49:12you sort of burned yourself, bro, because you
- 1:49:15thought by you putting out that story that the
- 1:49:18Steelers would probably run to you and say, hey,
- 1:49:20we can still try to make this thing work. No.
- 1:49:23But if I'm the Steelers at this point, I feel
- 1:49:26like you have to make a decision at this point
- 1:49:27because you have continued to go through a phase
- 1:49:31of waiting and it has burned you. Last year,
- 1:49:34you waited all the way to the last minute for
- 1:49:37Brandon Iuek. And just when that trade was gonna
- 1:49:41go down, guess what happened? He backed off and
- 1:49:44he stayed with the 49ers. And it burned you.
- 1:49:47And for that entire season, you were trying to
- 1:49:50basically do patchwork with the receiving room.
- 1:49:52Now you're doing it with the most important position
- 1:49:54on the entire team at quarterback. Do you really
- 1:49:57wanna deal with a 42 -year -old quarterback?
- 1:50:00I don't think you really want to because... Granted
- 1:50:03you do have DK Metcalfe and you have George Pickens
- 1:50:05you have Pat Freimuth You have Jalen Warren and
- 1:50:08you have all these other pieces and you have
- 1:50:09really good defense and whatnot But the problem
- 1:50:11is this there's still a lot of uncertainty with
- 1:50:14your tackles this is probably going to be the
- 1:50:17first full season and we're going to see Broderick
- 1:50:18Jones at left tackle and Troy Fatanu is still
- 1:50:22recovering from his ACL injury so you still have
- 1:50:27a lot of uncertainty at the tackle position and
- 1:50:30then not to mention We all know that Aaron Rodgers
- 1:50:32likes to do his things his way. I don't know
- 1:50:36if that's really going to work in Pittsburgh
- 1:50:38personally. I don't even know if that's really
- 1:50:40going to work in New York as well. So it's it's
- 1:50:45just a lot of just foolishness with this entire
- 1:50:48situation. And then when we look at Aaron Rodgers,
- 1:50:52OK, we don't know what's going on. He's basically
- 1:50:56gone quiet. Nobody really knows. And so The running
- 1:51:01feeling around a lot of people is make a decision
- 1:51:04Adam Schefter said it the best way possible make
- 1:51:07a decision It doesn't take you this long to come
- 1:51:09to a decision either you want to play or you
- 1:51:12don't and I feel like that is the running notion
- 1:51:14with a lot of these people they're in these front
- 1:51:16offices either you want to play or you don't
- 1:51:19because right now we are getting closer and closer
- 1:51:22to the draft and We have two teams right now
- 1:51:26who they definitely need a quarterback But one
- 1:51:29of them is in the position to get their quarterback.
- 1:51:31The other one isn't. So now, if you're the Steelers,
- 1:51:36sure, you're playing the waiting game, but you're
- 1:51:37getting a little bit desperate. You're getting
- 1:51:39a little bit anxious because why? All you have
- 1:51:42on your team right now is Mason Rudolph and Skyler
- 1:51:44Thompson. That's not enough. And we all know
- 1:51:48that this quarterback draft class is not that
- 1:51:50good. And please, for the love of God, for any
- 1:51:54person that continues to say that Jackson Dart
- 1:51:56is a first round pick, please. Please, please
- 1:51:59stop it. You are lying to yourself. You are getting
- 1:52:02paid by his agents. You are getting paid by the
- 1:52:06people that work for him to promote these type
- 1:52:08of fake news. Please stop it, okay? But back
- 1:52:13to reality, all right? Now for the Vikings, I
- 1:52:17don't feel a reason for you to try to go and
- 1:52:19get Aaron Rodgers. You have J .J. McCarthy. Run
- 1:52:22with J .J. McCarthy. Give him a legitimate chance.
- 1:52:25Because right now all Aaron Rodgers is doing
- 1:52:28is just following the co -tailor Brett Farth
- 1:52:30Okay, you were great with the Packers you went
- 1:52:33to the Jets You really wasn't that good and then
- 1:52:36you possibly could go back to the Vikings and
- 1:52:38then everything is all you know rainbows and
- 1:52:41unicorns No, either you want to play or you don't
- 1:52:45Because right now time is ticking and teams are
- 1:52:49waiting to do business with you But are you ready
- 1:52:52to do business with them? That's all I have to
- 1:52:54say about that. It would be crazy if by the time
- 1:52:57we're done with this episode, you know news drops
- 1:52:59about the whole Kirk Cousins and Aaron Rodder
- 1:53:01situation that would be crazy, but You never
- 1:53:04know with the football junkies podcast, but we
- 1:53:06do have to talk about one more thing and that
- 1:53:09is Cooper Cup coming back home, folks. That's
- 1:53:12right. He is going to the Seattle Seahawks. He
- 1:53:16ain't a three year, $45 million deal, which is
- 1:53:1915 million a year. His stats, 67 receptions for
- 1:53:24710 receiving yards, six touchdowns and 10 .6
- 1:53:28yards per reception. This is what I will say.
- 1:53:30It's going to be completely honest with you.
- 1:53:33The Seahawks are out of their damn mind for paying
- 1:53:35Cooper Cup 15 plus million. I'm sorry. If this
- 1:53:39was Cooper Cup after he won the Triple Crown,
- 1:53:42oh, yeah, for sure. Perfectly fine. But in recent
- 1:53:45years, he has not been able to stay healthy.
- 1:53:48He really hasn't been as consistent. And you're
- 1:53:51seeing one of a decline in his play. I'm sorry.
- 1:53:55The Seahawks pay 15 million for him just because
- 1:53:58of his name. It wasn't because of his play. It
- 1:54:01wasn't because of what he's done lately. It's
- 1:54:03because of his name, Cooper Cup. There was a
- 1:54:05market for him. I do know there were teams like
- 1:54:08You know the Cowboys that were like semi -interesting
- 1:54:10him. I know the Broncos had some interest in
- 1:54:13him the Patriots There were a few teams that
- 1:54:15had some level of interest in Cooper Cup Everyone
- 1:54:18was waiting to see what was gonna be his number
- 1:54:21now me personally I would have thought he would
- 1:54:24have taken less to join a contender for instance
- 1:54:26You know the Chiefs or the Eagles or the Ravens
- 1:54:29or the Bills or any of those different types
- 1:54:31of teams? But for you to take 15 million with
- 1:54:33the Seahawks really do I just don't know how
- 1:54:37to really feel about this. Sure, the Seahawks
- 1:54:40will have JSN and Cooper Cub, but it's like,
- 1:54:43bro, you just had DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett,
- 1:54:46and you let those two go, and then you bring
- 1:54:48in Cooper Cub? I don't know about this. But I
