- 0:09Speaker 1: Islands in the stream. That is what we are. No
- 0:14Speaker 1: one in between. How can we be wrong? Settle away
- 0:19Speaker 1: with me to another place. And we rely on each other.
- 0:27Speaker 1: From one lover to another.
- 0:30Speaker 2: RIP Dolly. Tribute. Yeah. To old Dolly Parton.
- 0:36Speaker 3: Kenny now, also gone.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Yeah, he's gone.
- 0:39Speaker 3: And those two.
- 0:41Speaker 4: Welcome to the bonus episode of The Shed. No Sammy
- 0:43Speaker 4: with us today. Sammy's in Sydney.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Because of the Friday night footy.
- 0:47Speaker 3: He's got a bit on.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Is he though? No. He says he's busy. He says
- 0:52Speaker 2: he's busy, but I always see him doing nothing.
- 0:53Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 0:54Speaker 3: And sometimes they'll do that whole broadcast on Channel 9.
- 0:57Speaker 3: You only see him for 10 seconds.
- 0:58Speaker 5: They do it from here, I thought, anyway. I thought,
- 1:00Speaker 5: isn't it all out of, like, Or was nine all
- 1:03Speaker 5: out of Sydney?
- 1:04Speaker 2: Do you know, Bruce?
- 1:05Speaker 3: I think it's all out of Sydney.
- 1:06Speaker 2: I think it's out of Sydney.
- 1:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Is it? Okay. There we go.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:10Speaker 2: If you're in Sydney, which I hope there's some fans
- 1:13Speaker 2: in Sydney. Yeah.
- 1:14Speaker 5: I thought he was all like me. But if there is,
- 1:17Speaker 5: and you spot Sammy doing nothing. Yes.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Can you send it through, please?
- 1:21Speaker 3: Just having a bludge.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Yeah, just doing nothing. Yeah, having a bludge. Like, he
- 1:25Speaker 2: should be here working, but he apparently thinks he's that busy, so.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Now, you and Sammy, we should say, both had a
- 1:29Speaker 3: pretty good day on the.
- 1:31Speaker 2: I wouldn't say good. You just had shit.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Not as bad as me on the tipping. Although, I'm
- 1:34Speaker 3: still winning. I'm 101 tips. You and Sammy have opened 90.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Actually, I think in the last two weeks, you've gotten six.
- 1:39Speaker 3: I'm falling apart toward the end. But I'm still there,
- 1:42Speaker 3: and we're in the finals now, so I reckon I
- 1:44Speaker 3: can hold on.
- 1:44Speaker 2: You're that guy at the pub where everyone hates.
- 1:46Speaker 5: Yeah. Oh, I'm home.
- 1:48Speaker 2: We're home. Shut up. And then the horse loses.
- 1:50Speaker 4: I'm home.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Watch me.
- 1:51Speaker 2: 101 tips. I've got this. Three lengths.
- 1:54Speaker 3: I've got it.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Fall's over.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Don't worry about it.
- 1:57Speaker 2: It's a lock.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Now, Reno, this is the big news. Big news today.
- 2:02Speaker 2: What happened? I haven't said anything. You've never heard of it.
- 2:05Speaker 4: Your little mate, Reno, he came out and said, and
- 2:08Speaker 4: I know that, look, the reality is that you are
- 2:11Speaker 4: still on the books at the Broncos, so you've got
- 2:13Speaker 4: to be careful what you say.
- 2:14Speaker 3: I don't because I'm a fan of the Broncos.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Yeah, so you can say what you like.
- 2:17Speaker 4: Go for it. I bloody love the Broncos, and I
- 2:19Speaker 4: can't believe that Reno, he came out and said.
- 2:24Speaker 3: I would have liked to have played in my last game.
- 2:26Speaker 3: It's not going to happen, so I've retired.
- 2:28Speaker 4: Then the next day, after Madge cops a whole lot
- 2:32Speaker 4: of heat, the next day, Renault does another press conference
- 2:35Speaker 4: and says, oh, I think I mixed.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Up my words a bit there.
- 2:39Speaker 4: It was my decision, which just doesn't seem true.
- 2:43Speaker 2: So what do you think?
- 2:44Speaker 4: I think they've told him he can't play. They've said, no, mate,
- 2:48Speaker 4: we're focusing on next year, blah, blah, blah.
- 2:51Speaker 3: You're retired.
- 2:53Speaker 4: And Madge and the Broncos have copped that much because
- 2:56Speaker 4: we put a post with our radio show and we
- 2:59Speaker 4: just got hundreds and hundreds of comments, people going, let
- 3:02Speaker 4: him play. Not one person said it's a good decision.
- 3:05Speaker 4: And so I think that they're under so much pressure,
- 3:07Speaker 4: they made him retract his words. It's almost like they said, listen,
- 3:10Speaker 4: you're going to be a coach next year. Here's your
- 3:12Speaker 4: first coaching assignment. Go out and BS everyone and tell
- 3:15Speaker 4: them that you didn't mean it.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Okay, moving on. I'll just make grunting noises. But, um, okay.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Well, just put your Broncos, take your Broncos hat off
- 3:29Speaker 3: for a minute.
- 3:29Speaker 2: It's hard when I get paid.
- 3:30Speaker 3: I know. But as his mate, as his mate, you
- 3:32Speaker 3: would have liked to see, you would have liked to
- 3:34Speaker 3: see him play.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Oh yeah, of course.
- 3:36Speaker 5: Um, I just think, you know, when a player of, of,
- 3:39Speaker 5: of his caliber retires, which there's not many, uh, you know, I,
- 3:44Speaker 5: I really do put Renault up there with some of
- 3:46Speaker 5: the greatest to play this game.
- 3:48Speaker 2: You know, like the top.
- 3:49Speaker 5: You know, if we're talking halfbacks, you could go top 10. Yeah.
- 3:52Speaker 5: You know, and if you go top 10, like, that
- 3:55Speaker 5: is some, that's a list that you want to be around.
- 3:59Speaker 4: Well, there's plenty of good halfbacks that never got two premierships.
- 4:02Speaker 2: No, and that's exactly right. Like, there's some of the
- 4:04Speaker 2: greatest halfbacks we've ever had.
- 4:05Speaker 5: Like, you know, probably just one, they probably had one. Like,
- 4:10Speaker 5: I would even go somewhere to the lines where some
- 4:12Speaker 5: maybe won none. But, Again, you know, to call him
- 4:15Speaker 5: a great halfback winning none probably doesn't fit.
- 4:18Speaker 2: But, you know, I just think, yeah, of his caliber,
- 4:22Speaker 2: it's really hard.
- 4:25Speaker 5: To see, not get a, it's not like he, yeah,
- 4:28Speaker 5: he just doesn't get a send off, I guess. Like
- 4:30Speaker 5: he retires one of the greatest and his stats, his results,
- 4:38Speaker 5: what he's done at multiple clubs, you know, they speak
- 4:42Speaker 5: for themselves. And that's what he, he will retire as.
- 4:45Speaker 5: And everyone will remember him as that player, how good
- 4:48Speaker 5: he was.
- 4:49Speaker 2: He broke the.
- 4:50Speaker 5: Brisbane Broncos drought, 90-year drought. We went to two grand
- 4:56Speaker 5: finals in the four years he was here. Or five years, sorry. Yeah,
- 5:02Speaker 5: I think if you put all that aside, I just
- 5:06Speaker 5: think it would have been nice to be able to
- 5:08Speaker 5: send him off.
- 5:09Speaker 2: But that's not the case.
- 5:12Speaker 3: Especially because our finals are done. It's not like it's
- 5:14Speaker 3: going to affect anything.
- 5:15Speaker 5: Yeah. And I think that's what everyone is talking about.
- 5:19Speaker 5: Like they would have just thought, give him a minute.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Yeah. Put him on the bench as a minute.
- 5:26Speaker 5: And if the game doesn't go that way, then him
- 5:28Speaker 5: still being on the bench, I'm sure they would have loved.
- 5:31Speaker 5: But I feel like now it brings in that chance
- 5:34Speaker 5: for me to go get a little Shetland and I
- 5:38Speaker 5: can trot him around on a little pony.
- 5:40Speaker 3: That, That dream's still alive. It's still alive. I think
- 5:44Speaker 3: he actually commented.
- 5:45Speaker 2: He did. He said, get me on one.
- 5:47Speaker 3: On our story last week. He said, I want to
- 5:48Speaker 3: be on the Shetland.
- 5:50Speaker 2: So, look, it could happen. That'd be awesome. That'd be fun.
- 5:54Speaker 2: You know those Western movies? Maybe, you know, during next week.
- 6:00Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Just the middle of Caxon. Just all you see is
- 6:05Speaker 2: like a little pony down the middle of Caxon and
- 6:07Speaker 2: you And it's me walking Renault. Yeah. Down the middle.
- 6:13Speaker 4: Beautiful.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Giving everyone away. Just a farewell. That's gorgeous.
- 6:18Speaker 4: So what do you reckon they will do given that
- 6:23Speaker 4: he's not playing?
- 6:23Speaker 3: They'll still want to farewell him somehow.
- 6:25Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Last home game.
- 6:26Speaker 2: That's a good question.
- 6:27Speaker 5: Um, I think when Sammy retired, which it would be
- 6:30Speaker 5: nice if he was here, he'd be able to answer this.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Question, they had on the field, do you remember that? Yeah,
- 6:36Speaker 2: I think on the field they had a presentation.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Before or after the game?
- 6:41Speaker 2: After.
- 6:41Speaker 4: After.
- 6:42Speaker 5: After the game, they had a big presentation for him,
- 6:44Speaker 5: so I would think something similar.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Okay. Along those lines.
- 6:48Speaker 5: It then again goes back to, I reckon, what he
- 6:53Speaker 5: wants to do because I feel like we're all forgetting.
- 6:56Speaker 2: This is the part that I– I've really pushed this.
- 6:59Speaker 5: I've tried to push this a lot because when I retired,
- 7:01Speaker 5: I just kept it a secret and told no one.
- 7:03Speaker 5: And I kept it tight-lipped from everyone.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:06Speaker 5: And everyone hated it when I released it. But I went, well,
- 7:09Speaker 5: it's my career, not yours, not the club's, not the media's,
- 7:13Speaker 5: no one's.
- 7:14Speaker 2: This is his career. You know, he's retiring his career.
- 7:18Speaker 2: No one else is retiring him. Like, he is. It's
- 7:22Speaker 2: his career and he should choose the way he wants
- 7:25Speaker 2: to go out. Like, this is what. It really bothers
- 7:28Speaker 2: me a lot when people try and make it about themselves.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Why didn't we get told? Why didn't you do it
- 7:32Speaker 2: with us? Like, no, I want to do it my way.
- 7:35Speaker 5: So I feel like if he wants to do it
- 7:38Speaker 5: like that now, yeah, by all means do it. I
- 7:41Speaker 5: think it would be something the crowd would love, but
- 7:45Speaker 5: he may want something different. He may want to walk around. Yeah.
- 7:48Speaker 2: You know, he may want to do a walk around
- 7:51Speaker 2: before the game.
- 7:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Something like that.
- 7:53Speaker 5: I feel like that would suit Renault more because– it's
- 7:57Speaker 5: like it's still that feeling, you know, the crowd.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Yeah. You know what I mean? Like after the game,
- 8:03Speaker 2: it's a bit dull.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Your people start leaving or whatever else. Yeah.
- 8:07Speaker 5: I reckon before the game, a walk around, not in
- 8:10Speaker 5: a ceremony, just he gets to walk around with his
- 8:13Speaker 5: family before the game while the boys are warming up
- 8:16Speaker 5: and do it that way. I think that might be
- 8:18Speaker 5: a good way to do it. But then, yeah, I
- 8:21Speaker 5: think it should be up to him and that's what.
- 8:23Speaker 2: I want people to remember that. it is his career.
- 8:26Speaker 2: It's no one else's.
- 8:28Speaker 5: And, um, you know, whatever way he wants to send
- 8:31Speaker 5: it off is, is I think we should allow him
- 8:33Speaker 5: to do it that way.
- 8:34Speaker 4: As a betting man, which I know that you have
- 8:36Speaker 4: a tiny flutter every now and then, uh, um, what
- 8:40Speaker 4: do you.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Reckon he's going to do next year? Like is coaching?
- 8:43Speaker 5: Um, yeah, I think, I think he has wanted to coach, but, uh,
- 8:48Speaker 5: you know, he might just need a rest from, from
- 8:51Speaker 5: it all.
- 8:52Speaker 2: I really, you know, it's a long time. I think
- 8:54Speaker 2: he's done 16 years.
- 8:55Speaker 3: Like, Does he have a whole year off?
- 8:57Speaker 2: Oh, just, yeah, maybe six.
- 9:00Speaker 5: Months and then he slowly brings his way back and
- 9:02Speaker 5: just hangs around the club for the last six months.
- 9:04Speaker 2: I don't know. I know he'll do media. I think
- 9:07Speaker 2: he's great.
- 9:08Speaker 5: I really like hearing Renaud on the weekends on Fox
- 9:11Speaker 5: and that talking. I think he'll be really good. I
- 9:15Speaker 5: think he might dabble at some commentary. I'd be surprised
- 9:17Speaker 5: if he doesn't. And then I'm sure he'll have the–
- 9:20Speaker 5: he does like the Triple M stuff.
- 9:22Speaker 2: He's done that for a fair while, so I reckon
- 9:24Speaker 2: he'll be doing those. Yeah, he's good.
- 9:26Speaker 5: Whether or not he goes straight into coaching, I don't know.
- 9:28Speaker 5: I really do think he'll take a little break. You
- 9:31Speaker 5: want to sit back and really get out of that circle,
- 9:37Speaker 5: I think, just to really give your mind a good rest.
- 9:40Speaker 4: Now, last week you mentioned we're talking about the Broncos
- 9:45Speaker 4: and you were confident the Broncos had a good chance
- 9:48Speaker 4: because Ben Hunt was going to be playing in halfback
- 9:50Speaker 4: and then he'd take the game by the scruff of
- 9:51Speaker 4: the neck.
- 9:52Speaker 2: You didn't listen to me.
- 9:52Speaker 3: I did not listen to you. And you were right.
- 9:54Speaker 2: I was glad I was right. Yeah. If I wasn't right,
- 9:57Speaker 2: I wasn't going to sell.
- 9:58Speaker 3: It was a narrow victory in the end. but they
- 10:00Speaker 3: did it.
- 10:00Speaker 2: They did it.
- 10:01Speaker 3: And Hunty was good.
- 10:02Speaker 2: He did play good.
- 10:03Speaker 3: And he did.
- 10:04Speaker 2: And he looked like he was bossy, which I really liked.
- 10:09Speaker 5: I think that's– we have a great team, great players,
- 10:14Speaker 5: great talent, but sometimes your talent is just too much.
- 10:19Speaker 5: You need a guy like Huntie to boss everyone around.
- 10:22Speaker 5: I understand you're all talented, but he's got to do
- 10:25Speaker 5: this first.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Let's just do our job. And I think he did
- 10:29Speaker 2: that well. So it was good to see.
- 10:32Speaker 3: What do you reckon his role is next year? Because
- 10:35Speaker 3: there's talk about him.
- 10:36Speaker 2: We've got to fight five halfbacks.
- 10:38Speaker 3: How many halves?
- 10:39Speaker 5: We're not going to be short in the halfback range.
- 10:41Speaker 5: We've got Peasant, Duffy, him, Ezra. And then I heard
- 10:46Speaker 5: they were looking at Sam Walker.
- 10:48Speaker 2: I was like, what are we doing? We don't need
- 10:50Speaker 2: any more.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Do you reckon he's a chance of being captain?
- 10:55Speaker 5: It's interesting because my question is then who else would
- 10:58Speaker 5: you pick?
- 10:59Speaker 3: If not him. Yeah.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Yeah. You'd get Paddy. Yeah.
- 11:03Speaker 5: But, like, you know, I don't think Paddy is a–
- 11:07Speaker 5: I don't like seeing, you know, big players like Paddy
- 11:09Speaker 5: in that play in 80 minutes because I look at
- 11:11Speaker 5: long-term effects that it has and I'd love.
- 11:14Speaker 2: To see them play in 60. So do you have co-captains?
- 11:18Speaker 5: Do you have Paddy and then when he goes off,
- 11:20Speaker 5: it's Honey or someone else that's there?
- 11:23Speaker 2: That hasn't worked before, though. It hasn't.
- 11:26Speaker 5: No, it hasn't worked, but Panthers do it. And they
- 11:30Speaker 5: have that exact thing. It's Yo and Cleary.
- 11:35Speaker 2: And I feel like it's a good... And I think
- 11:38Speaker 2: they do the roles well.
- 11:39Speaker 3: It's almost like captain of the forwards, captain of the backs.
- 11:41Speaker 5: It's captain, but then you give one dude their roles
- 11:45Speaker 5: that they... Penrith are just great at it I know
- 11:48Speaker 5: I'm a bit off top but they are crazy good
- 11:50Speaker 5: at their roles you can see Yo talking and at
- 11:54Speaker 5: the end of it Cleary talks or he doesn't it's
- 11:57Speaker 5: almost like their roles they know and they don't overwrite
- 12:01Speaker 5: each other I think I've really loved that and I
- 12:03Speaker 5: think when teams get that right it's hard to beat
- 12:06Speaker 5: and that's why I think they're so good because they
- 12:09Speaker 5: know their roles they know their captains of each group
- 12:12Speaker 5: and the team and I think that's what Bronx will
- 12:15Speaker 5: need next year. I think we need a captain of
- 12:19Speaker 5: the team, but then you can also have that co-captain
- 12:21Speaker 5: of the Fords.
- 12:23Speaker 2: I think that'll work really well.
- 12:26Speaker 4: And just before we wrap up the bonus ep, we
- 12:28Speaker 4: should say as well, Walsh is in a bit of
- 12:29Speaker 4: trouble again now because he's.
- 12:32Speaker 3: Liked a post where Maguire was Cop and Heath. I
- 12:37Speaker 3: don't know.
- 12:38Speaker 2: I don't know. I know that he has media people. Yeah.
- 12:45Speaker 5: I know while she has a media, whether they look
- 12:47Speaker 5: after his socials fully, I don't know.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Do you hope they haven't done that?
- 12:53Speaker 2: I'm hoping they have.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Because they cocked it up royally.
- 12:55Speaker 2: I am hoping they have done that and it wasn't him. Yeah, okay.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Whether he thought, oh, this would be a good laugh
- 13:02Speaker 2: or not, I really hope he's thought about it.
- 13:07Speaker 3: Because last time someone did that, who was it?
- 13:10Speaker 2: Marty Tapao.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Tapao. And he was gone a week later.
- 13:13Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 13:14Speaker 3: I don't think they'll follow.
- 13:16Speaker 2: I think it was a little bit worse story. It
- 13:18Speaker 2: was a lot worse story. Yeah.
- 13:21Speaker 5: But I just, I hope he's made an inside joke
- 13:27Speaker 5: with Madge.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Yeah. I really do.
- 13:30Speaker 5: Yeah. Just stick to. It's not a big, it's not
- 13:33Speaker 5: a massive thing.
- 13:35Speaker 2: I don't believe, I don't think it's as big. I
- 13:36Speaker 2: truly don't. Yeah. But.
- 13:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:39Speaker 5: I just, I laugh when I've seen it. I actually
- 13:42Speaker 5: just giggled and I just moved on.
- 13:44Speaker 2: That's all I did.
- 13:45Speaker 3: Just wish he'd bring back the toilet.
- 13:46Speaker 5: Toilet, just bring back the toilet. He should just do
- 13:48Speaker 5: a video of drinking out of the toilet. Just to
- 13:51Speaker 5: change the narrative.
