June 21 - Faithfulness Without Recognition · Bible Chat Devotional

Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
• 0:06
rooted in scripture and relevant for today, June 21st, when pride
• 0:12
meets reality. Have you ever been in a season
• 0:16
where everything seemed to be going your way?
• 0:18
Things were clicking. You felt confident, maybe even
• 0:22
untouchable. And then something happened that
• 0:24
reminded you just how much you don't actually have figured out.
• 0:28
That sudden drop from confidence to confusion is one of the most
• 0:32
humbling experiences a person can have.
• 0:35
And it's not always bad. Sometimes it's exactly what we
• 0:39
need. Proverbs chapter 18, verse 12
• 0:42
says before destruction, a man's heart is haughty, but humility
• 0:47
comes before honor. That's not just a proverb.
• 0:50
That's a pattern you can see repeated throughout history and
• 0:53
throughout your own life. If you look honestly, pride
• 0:56
  doesn't announce itself as pride.
• 0:58
It usually feels like confidence, clarity, maybe even
• 1:01
wisdom. But when it's operating without
• 1:04
God at the center, it creates blind spots.
• 1:07
And blind spots are dangerous. David understood this more than
• 1:12
almost anyone. He was chosen by God to be king.
• 1:16
He was anointed, gifted, and favored.
• 1:18
And yet in first Samuel chapter 23, verses 2 and three, before
• 1:23
going into a dangerous battle, David didn't charge ahead on his
• 1:27
own confidence. He asked, shall I go and attack
• 1:31
these Philistines? He checked in with God before he
• 1:34
made a move, and God said yes. And because David went with
• 1:38
God's directive rather than just his own impulse, he saved an
• 1:42
entire city. That's the pattern that leads to
• 1:45
honor. Not the path where you
• 1:47
demonstrate how capable you are, but the path where you
• 1:50
consistently turn to God and say, what do you want me to do
• 1:54
here? That's the kind of humility that
• 1:56
protects you from your own blind spots.
• 1:59
And then when danger came again, threats closing in, people
• 2:03
turning against him, betrayal on multiple sides, David turned to
• 2:07
Psalm 54, verses one and two with one of the most honest
• 2:10
prayers you'll find in all of Scripture.
• 2:13
Save me, oh God, by your name, and vindicate me by your might,
• 2:18
Oh God, hear my prayer. Give ear to the words of my
• 2:21
mouth. He didn't go on social media to
• 2:24
defend himself. He didn't scheme his way out.
• 2:27
He prayed versed. He took his situation to God
• 2:32
before trying to manage it himself.
• 2:34
That combination, seeking God's guidance before acting and
• 2:39
seeking God's help when threatened, is the antidote to
• 2:41
  pride. It's not weakness.
• 2:44
It's actually the most strategic thing you can do because it
• 2:48
keeps you connected to the wisest, most powerful source of
• 2:51
guidance that exists. For young people especially,
• 2:55
this matters in the everyday moments, the test you feel
• 2:58
totally prepared for. Did you ask God for wisdom or
• 3:02
just lean on how much you studied the decision you're
• 3:05
confident about? Did you pray about it or just go
• 3:08
with your gut? The relationship situation you
• 3:11
think you've got figured out? Have you actually sought God's
• 3:14
  perspective? Humility doesn't mean thinking
• 3:18
less of yourself. It means being honest about what
• 3:21
you know and what you don't and consistently inviting God into
• 3:25
the gap. It means asking before acting.
• 3:28
It means trusting His direction even when your own instincts
• 3:32
feel strong. And the beautiful promise?
• 3:35
Humility comes before honor when you choose it consistently.
• 3:39
God lifts you in His timing, in His way, in ways that actually
• 3:43
last. Let's pray, Heavenly Father help
• 3:48
us to recognize the places where pride is operating in our
• 3:51
hearts, even when it disguises itself as confidence.
• 3:55
Teach us to seek Your guidance before we act, not just when
• 3:59
things fall apart. Like David, may we ask you first
• 4:03
in decisions big and small, and trust that your wisdom is always
• 4:06
better than ours. Strengthen our faith so we can
• 4:10
rely on your protection and direction every single day.
• 4:13
In Jesus name, Amen. What if the road ahead is not
• 4:19
meant to be rushed, feared, or walked alone?

• 5:10
Bible reading plan. Proverbs chapter 18 Verse 12
• 5:15
World English Bible Before destruction the heart of man is
• 5:19
proud, but before honor is humility.
• 5:22
First Samuel Chapter 23 World English Bible David was told,
• 5:28
Behold the Philistines are fighting against Kayla and are
• 5:31
robbing the thrashing floors. Therefore David inquired of
• 5:34
Yahweh saying, shall I go and strike these Philistines?
• 5:39
Yahweh said to David, Go strike the Philistines and save Kayla.
• 5:43
David's men said to him, Behold, we are afraid here in Judah, how
• 5:48
much more than if we go to Kayla against the armies of the
• 5:51
Philistines. Then David inquired of Yahweh.
• 5:54
Yet again Yahweh answered him and said, Arise, go down to
• 5:59
Kayla, for I will deliver the Philistines into your hand.
• 6:02
David and his men went to Kayla and fought with the Philistines
• 6:07
and brought away their livestock and killed them with a great
• 6:10
slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants
• 6:13
of Kayla. When Abiathar, the son of
• 6:15
Aheimletch, fled to David, to Kayla, he came down with an
• 6:19
ephod in his hand. Saul was told that David had
• 6:22
come to Kayla. Saul said, God has delivered him
• 6:26
into my hand, for he is shut in. By entering into a town that has
• 6:29
gates and bars. Saul summoned all the people to
• 6:33
war, to go down to Kayla, to besiege David and his men.
• 6:38
David knew that Saul was devising mischief against him,
• 6:41
and he said to Abiathar the priest, bring the ephod here.
• 6:45
Then David said, O Yahweh, the God of Israel, your servant has
• 6:50
surely heard that Saul seeks to come to Kayla to destroy the
• 6:54
city for my sake. Will the men of Kayla.
• 6:57
Deliver me up into his hand. Will Saul come down?
• 7:00
As your servant has heard Yahweh, the God of Israel, I beg
• 7:04
you, tell your servant Yahweh said he will come down then,
• 7:08
David said. Will the men of Kayla.
• 7:10
Deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul.
• 7:13
Yahweh said. They will deliver you up.
• 7:16
Then David and his men, who were about 600, arose and departed
• 7:21
out of Kayla and went wherever they could go.
• 7:24
Saul was told that David was escaped from Kayla and he gave
• 7:27
up going there. David stayed in the wilderness
• 7:30
in the strongholds, and remained in the Hill Country in the
• 7:33
wilderness of Ziff. Saul sought him every day, but
• 7:37
God didn't deliver him into his hand.
• 7:40
David saw that Saul had come out to seek his life.
• 7:43
David was in the wilderness of Ziff in the wood.
• 7:46
Jonathan, Saul's son, arose and went to David into the.
• 7:50
Woods and. Strengthened his hand in God, he
• 7:53
said to him, Don't be afraid for the hand of Saul.
• 7:57
My father won't find you. And.
• 7:58
You will be king over Israel, and I will be next to you and
• 8:02
Saul. My father knows that also.
• 8:04
They both made a covenant before Yahweh.
• 8:07
Then David stayed in the woods and Jonathan went to his house.
• 8:12
Then the Ziphytes came up to Saul, to Jiba, saying, doesn't
• 8:16
David hide himself with us in the strongholds, in the woods,
• 8:19
in the hill of Hakala, which is on the South of the desert?
• 8:23
Now therefore, O king, come down according to all the desire of
• 8:27
your soul to come down, and our part will be to deliver him up
• 8:30
into the King's hand. Saul said You are blessed by
• 8:34
Yahweh, for you have had compassion on me.
• 8:37
Please go make yet more sure and know and see his place where his
• 8:41
haunt is, and who has seen him there, for I have been told that
• 8:44
he is very cunning. See therefore, and take
• 8:48
knowledge of all the lurking places where he hides himself,
• 8:51
and come again to me with certainty, and I will go with
• 8:54
you. It shall happen, if he is in the
• 8:57
land, that I will search him out among all the thousands of
• 9:00
Judah. They arose and went to Ziff
• 9:03
before Saul, but David and his men were in the wilderness of
• 9:06
Mound in the Araba on the South of the desert.
• 9:11
Saul and his men went to seek him.
• 9:13
When David was told, he went down to the rock and stayed in
• 9:16
the wilderness of Mound. When Saul heard that, he pursued
• 9:19
David in the wilderness of Mound.
• 9:22
Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men
• 9:25
on that side of the mountain, And David hurried to get away
• 9:29
for fear of Saul. For Saul and his men surrounded
• 9:33
David and his men to take them. But a messenger came to Saul
• 9:37
saying, Hurry and come, for the Philistines have made a raid on
• 9:41
the land. So Saul returned from pursuing
• 9:44
David and went against the Philistines.
• 9:47
Therefore they called that place Selahemolekoth.
• 9:50
David went up from there and lived in the strongholds of
• 9:53
Njetty. Psalm Chapter 54 World English
• 9:56
Bible Save me God, by your name. Vindicate me in your might.
• 10:02
Hear my prayer, God, listen to the words of my mouth, for
• 10:05
strangers have risen up against me.
• 10:07
Violent men have sought after my soul.
• 10:10
They haven't set God before them.
• 10:13
Behold, God is my helper. The Lord is the one who sustains
• 10:16
my soul. He will repay the evil to my
• 10:19
enemies. Destroy them in your truth with
• 10:22
a free will offering I will sacrifice to you.
• 10:25
I will give thanks to your name Yahweh, for it is good, for He
• 10:29
has delivered me out of all trouble my eye has seen triumph
• 10:32
  over my enemies. Thanks.
