- 0:03Speaker 1: Well, I'm back.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Vegas was incredible. I have so many things to get
- 0:07Speaker 2: you caught up on. So two things.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Tell us.
- 0:11Speaker 2: I always watch the shows that I don't miss or
- 0:14Speaker 2: that I don't make. I always miss 100% of the
- 0:18Speaker 2: shots that I don't take and make 100% of the
- 0:21Speaker 2: shots I don't miss. That's how my brain's working right
- 0:23Speaker 2: now after a fake trip to Vegas. I was on
- 0:26Speaker 2: a meeting this morning. I do 80 a day. And
- 0:30Speaker 2: on one of them, AJ... Someone said I was Vegas.
- 0:36Speaker 3: No.
- 0:37Speaker 4: True?
- 0:39Speaker 2: True story.
- 0:39Speaker 3: I love it.
- 0:40Speaker 4: I love it.
- 0:41Speaker 2: I should have made you happy, Scott. And he said
- 0:44Speaker 2: he watches. I think there's some people that catch the
- 0:48Speaker 2: AJ days and are catching onto a theme that AJ
- 0:51Speaker 2: will make up where I am for the day. But
- 0:53Speaker 2: this person did not catch up on that little trick
- 0:57Speaker 2: that's being played by AJ. I was not in Las Vegas.
- 1:00Speaker 2: I wish I was in Las Vegas to try and
- 1:02Speaker 2: beat AJ's 21st birthday celebration weekend, but I did not
- 1:07Speaker 2: have the firepower to make the trip. So that's one.
- 1:10Speaker 4: You did not want to try to beat that celebration.
- 1:12Speaker 4: I promise you.
- 1:14Speaker 2: I personally, AJ, do not want that smoke because I
- 1:18Speaker 2: don't want to feel that way. Sometimes I do. Right now,
- 1:21Speaker 2: I don't. I will take the hangover-less body that I
- 1:25Speaker 2: have at the moment. The second thing that I wanted
- 1:27Speaker 2: to go over with you was something you brought up yesterday.
- 1:29Speaker 2: And I think you've told this story before, but I
- 1:31Speaker 2: wanted to get you to humor us before we begin
- 1:34Speaker 2: our journey. Jermaine Dye calling pitches. You mentioned that, but
- 1:39Speaker 2: I wanted more and I, maybe you told it, but
- 1:41Speaker 2: I still want more.
- 1:43Speaker 4: So we used to, Burley, Burley never shook and never
- 1:46Speaker 4: did any scouting reports, never watched video. He just pitched
- 1:51Speaker 4: and whatever you put down, he would say, okay. And
- 1:54Speaker 4: now if, and there were times in Jermaine and we
- 1:57Speaker 4: had a really tight knee grip. It was Jermaine, Creedy,
- 1:59Speaker 4: Canerco and, um, you know, your eBay, the guys that
- 2:03Speaker 4: were around, but said Nick, they were around for, for
- 2:05Speaker 4: multiple years, um, that hung out together a lot. Uh, Jermaine,
- 2:09Speaker 4: every once in a while would be like, you know,
- 2:12Speaker 4: I could call the pitches with Mark pitching. And so
- 2:14Speaker 4: every once in a while, if the game would get
- 2:15Speaker 4: out of hand one way, uh, we, we go to
- 2:18Speaker 4: Jermaine and say, Jermaine, you want to call the game
- 2:20Speaker 4: from right field? And he's like, I'll do it. And
- 2:23Speaker 4: he'd be out there, literally curve ball, fastball way, fastball
- 2:27Speaker 4: in cutter change up. And I just, I just look
- 2:30Speaker 4: out in right field and Jermaine, change up. Okay, change up.
- 2:33Speaker 4: Here we go.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Let's see.
- 2:34Speaker 4: It took a lot of pressure off me.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Yeah, because you had so much pressure with Mark Burley pitching. Like,
- 2:42Speaker 1: there was no wrong pitch to call. It was just–
- 2:45Speaker 1: he was bringing it to the plate and it was
- 2:47Speaker 1: probably going to be weak contact.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:50Speaker 4: But it made Jermaine feel special for a couple minutes.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Yeah, 100%. I love him now.
- 2:55Speaker 4: But then when he gave up– Then if he gave
- 2:59Speaker 4: up a hit, then it was like, see, it's not
- 3:00Speaker 4: that easy, is it, Jermaine? You think it's so easy
- 3:03Speaker 4: out there. It's not that easy when you start giving
- 3:05Speaker 4: up hits.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Yeah, but that's when they say, well, you weren't out
- 3:09Speaker 1: there when Burley threw. It was a perfect game, so
- 3:11Speaker 1: maybe we need a different catcher.
- 3:13Speaker 4: That's fine.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Yeah, the reason I brought this up is in yesterday's
- 3:17Speaker 2: interview with Max Muncy, which you can catch wherever you
- 3:20Speaker 2: catch us, the guys were asking if he's ever called pitches,
- 3:23Speaker 2: and he almost– purposely went out of his way to say, hey,
- 3:27Speaker 2: I do not want to do that. I don't want
- 3:29Speaker 2: to give the team any ideas about my catching ability
- 3:32Speaker 2: as the emergency catcher on the team for many years.
- 3:34Speaker 2: He does not want that smoke either. So has this
- 3:38Speaker 2: happened frequently or is this a rare occurrence? Like, Kratz,
- 3:42Speaker 2: did you ever know someone that called pitches from a
- 3:45Speaker 2: different position than you did?
- 3:47Speaker 1: I let Jimmy Rollins call pitches one time. And in
- 3:50Speaker 1: the minor leagues, I would definitely– there was– Some Giants
- 3:54Speaker 1: fans might remember the name Brian Bocock. He's like, I
- 3:59Speaker 1: want to call pitches. It looks so cool, and I'm
- 4:01Speaker 1: always looking in there to see what you guys are.
- 4:03Speaker 1: I was like, all right, cool. Do it next inning.
- 4:08Speaker 1: That was my buddy Nate Bump on the mound, and
- 4:10Speaker 1: Nate's like, are we serious? I was like, Nate, you
- 4:14Speaker 1: throw two pitches. It'll totally be fine. You're throwing a
- 4:17Speaker 1: sinker most of the time. He did it. We went one, two, three,
- 4:20Speaker 1: and he was like, That was kind of nerve-wracking and
- 4:23Speaker 1: kind of exhausting. I think I'm done. And if Max
- 4:26Speaker 1: Muncy became a catcher, imagine Max's stats as a catcher.
- 4:31Speaker 1: That would be legit.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Yeah. Oh, he'd be a good catcher.
- 4:36Speaker 1: He wouldn't have those stats as a catcher. What are
- 4:38Speaker 1: you talking about, AJ? How does that affect your hitting?
- 4:41Speaker 1: Come on, man. Trust me.
- 4:44Speaker 4: There was many more times when you come off the
- 4:46Speaker 4: field after you give up a four or five spot
- 4:49Speaker 4: and you're leading off and you're like, oh. Man, I'm
- 4:52Speaker 4: pissed we just gave up a five spot. Oh, yeah,
- 4:54Speaker 4: by the way, I've got to go try and get
- 4:56Speaker 4: a hit now. And I'm leading off against, I don't know,
- 4:59Speaker 4: name a great lefty. Randy Johnson, I mean, Roy Holiday,
- 5:04Speaker 4: Chris Sale, CeCe Savathia, name one. And they're like, oh, yeah,
- 5:07Speaker 4: go get a hit. Go have a good at bat.
- 5:09Speaker 4: And you're like, I'm still thinking about the five we
- 5:11Speaker 4: just gave up that we're now trying to catch.
- 5:13Speaker 1: That you were back there and your jersey weighs three
- 5:17Speaker 1: more pounds than it did to start the inning. Yeah,
- 5:20Speaker 1: but no, don't worry about it. It does not affect it.
- 5:23Speaker 1: It doesn't affect it.
- 5:25Speaker 4: Some people say it doesn't.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Those people are not real catchers. So with that, let's charge. AJ,
- 5:39Speaker 2: you watch just about every White Sox game. Sam Antonacci is,
- 5:43Speaker 2: I would say, one of the folk heroes, one of
- 5:45Speaker 2: the spirit animals here. out there on the south side
- 5:47Speaker 2: of Chicago. And he's certainly one of the shirt leaders
- 5:50Speaker 2: for us on FoulTerritoryShop.com. People love buying the Sam Antonacci shirt.
- 5:54Speaker 2: So he's a fiery guy. He takes a lot of
- 5:56Speaker 2: pitches to the flesh to earn a base. In this case,
- 6:00Speaker 2: he slid into Brandon Lau, barely. I mean, his elbow
- 6:03Speaker 2: kind of touched him. Do you think this was a
- 6:07Speaker 2: big deal? Bilal doesn't get into it much with people,
- 6:11Speaker 2: but he seemed pretty pissed and used some expletives and
- 6:15Speaker 2: benches cleared. The mound was not charged. There were no
- 6:19Speaker 2: punches thrown. But what do you think? Do you think
- 6:23Speaker 2: there was any reason to be pissed?
- 6:26Speaker 4: I mean, listen, Sam earlier in the year threw an
- 6:28Speaker 4: elbow kind of at Wilson Contreras at first base. That
- 6:32Speaker 4: one was a little bit more than this. This one
- 6:34Speaker 4: to me was he just kind of slid. And what
- 6:36Speaker 4: do you do? I don't know what to do with
- 6:37Speaker 4: my elbow. And it just kind of got into Brandon
- 6:39Speaker 4: Lau a little bit. I know you're not allowed to
- 6:42Speaker 4: touch anybody on the field anymore. But I didn't think
- 6:45Speaker 4: this was that bad. They still turned a double play.
- 6:47Speaker 4: It wasn't like he took him out. It wasn't like
- 6:49Speaker 4: he swung his elbow at him. It wasn't like he
- 6:52Speaker 4: kicked his leg out from under him. He just kind
- 6:54Speaker 4: of slid. And listen, I know this, when I slid,
- 6:57Speaker 4: especially in a double play, I would use my, I
- 6:59Speaker 4: put my arms up to cover my face, right? If
- 7:02Speaker 4: there was a guy, you know, turning it, I'd put
- 7:04Speaker 4: my elbow out because they would swing their leg around.
- 7:07Speaker 4: This is back when you could take guys out. So
- 7:08Speaker 4: they would throw and they'd swing their leg around. So
- 7:10Speaker 4: you'd throw your elbow up to try to protect yourself.
- 7:13Speaker 4: I don't think this– I think this got blown out
- 7:15Speaker 4: of proportion just because Brandon Lau– listen, we love Brandon Lau.
- 7:18Speaker 4: He's a great dude. He's a great player. But they're
- 7:21Speaker 4: not used to being touched. So if you touch him now, oh, no,
- 7:24Speaker 4: what a catastrophe. But I didn't think this was a
- 7:27Speaker 4: big deal, but it's good for baseball because you know
- 7:28Speaker 4: what we're talking about? Baseball.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:31Speaker 2: I mean, if this was the 70s, 80s, 90s, you
- 7:33Speaker 2: might be benched for not going into second hard enough.
- 7:36Speaker 4: Kids, go watch Hal McRae. Go watch Hal McRae take
- 7:40Speaker 4: out some dudes or what. They weren't even sliding. They
- 7:42Speaker 4: were roll tackles.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Dehydration is real, people. So are quince electrolyte stick packs.
- 7:51Speaker 2: All of a sudden, you don't need some big bottle
- 7:53Speaker 2: to carry around. Just these little packets if you suddenly
- 7:56Speaker 2: feel like you need a little hydration. Raspberry salt, delicious.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Citrus salt, my personal favorite. And watermelon salt for those
- 8:04Speaker 2: watermelon lovers out there. Very solid. Just in your water bottle.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I'm a watermelon guy. It's quick, easy in the morning.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Wake up.
- 8:11Speaker 4: Feeling a little down, throw some in there. Feeling great,
- 8:14Speaker 4: throw some in there because it'll keep that high going.
- 8:16Speaker 4: So stay on it. It hydrates you because of that
- 8:19Speaker 4: fermented rice. Great tasting, and it makes you feel better.
- 8:23Speaker 2: They're made in the USA, rigorously third-party tested. Give your
- 8:27Speaker 2: body what it really needs to stay hydrated. Quince.com slash
- 8:30Speaker 2: foul gets you free shipping on your order and 365-day returns.
- 8:33Speaker 2: That's quince.com slash foul for free shipping and 365-day returns.
- 8:37Speaker 2: These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and
- 8:39Speaker 2: Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure,
- 8:42Speaker 2: or prevent any disease. So here's what Sam said, because
- 8:46Speaker 2: Sam's on the same page as you, AJ. And I
- 8:49Speaker 2: think most people in this case, he said it was
- 8:52Speaker 2: a completely legal play. If you go look at the
- 8:55Speaker 2: rule book or go look at what happened, you can
- 8:57Speaker 2: slide as late as you want, as long as you
- 8:59Speaker 2: keep contact with the bag. And yeah, it defended the
- 9:05Speaker 2: whole thing and added that he was just playing the
- 9:07Speaker 2: game hard. And that's what Sam Antonacci does.
- 9:11Speaker 1: There's no doubt about that. And that's why I think
- 9:14Speaker 1: he's ingratiating himself to the White Sox fans. AJ knows, like,
- 9:20Speaker 1: you play hard. You play every day. The Southsiders are
- 9:24Speaker 1: going to stand up for you. And I think it's
- 9:27Speaker 1: something that live, Brandon Lau, that's because that's all you
- 9:32Speaker 1: have to react to. Live, if you're watching it, you're like, no,
- 9:35Speaker 1: good job. Like he got in there, he got in
- 9:37Speaker 1: there as much as he could. Cause it was going
- 9:38Speaker 1: to be a, it was going to be a bang,
- 9:40Speaker 1: bang play at first. Cause it was a shot to third.
- 9:43Speaker 1: So it takes a little bit to spin it around live.
- 9:46Speaker 1: I didn't think anything of it. And then when they
- 9:48Speaker 1: showed the replay, maybe that elbow got in there a
- 9:50Speaker 1: little bit, but you know, there's going to be contact.
- 9:54Speaker 1: I've never seen anybody know there's going to be contact
- 9:56Speaker 1: and just be like, nope, nothing. No, you're going to
- 10:01Speaker 1: flinch or even give them a little bit. I didn't
- 10:04Speaker 1: see anything wrong with it. I did pray a little
- 10:06Speaker 1: bit for their first base coach because he was the
- 10:09Speaker 1: one that got in the way of Antonacci, and that
- 10:13Speaker 1: was when O'Neal Cruz had made his way in from
- 10:16Speaker 1: center field. And if you ever want to see how
- 10:18Speaker 1: big of a human being O'Neal Cruz is, go back
- 10:20Speaker 1: and watch the end of that little, like, whatever that was,
- 10:24Speaker 1: barking match.
- 10:28Speaker 4: Kerfuffle.
- 10:29Speaker 2: O'Neal Cruz is a big dude. Yeah, kerfuffle.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Kerfuffle.
- 10:32Speaker 2: If you're bougie.
- 10:32Speaker 4: I'm going to use kerfuffle.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Andrew McCutcheon's exact words, he's an avatar. Like, he is.
- 10:41Speaker 1: He stood next to the first base coach, and it
- 10:42Speaker 1: was like, things kind of just like, Things kind of
- 10:46Speaker 1: just parted like there's always that guy on a field
- 10:48Speaker 1: with large, large humans. He is larger.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Do you think there's some frustration from the Pirates, AJ,
- 10:58Speaker 2: and how their season has resulted? You know, it's funny.
- 11:01Speaker 2: I was looking at these two teams and when I
- 11:03Speaker 2: was watching the highlights last night, I was like, the
- 11:06Speaker 2: White Sox are what the Pirates wish they were. yet
- 11:10Speaker 2: they're only a couple games away from each other in
- 11:13Speaker 2: wins and losses. That's not how this is played, though.
- 11:16Speaker 2: One team's in the American League, one team's in a
- 11:18Speaker 2: weaker division in general, right? The Pirates happen to reside
- 11:21Speaker 2: in a division that has the Brewers and the Cubs
- 11:24Speaker 2: and even the Cardinals playing well. The White Sox are
- 11:26Speaker 2: 75 and 70. They might not even have to play
- 11:28Speaker 2: in the first round, while the Pirates really haven't played
- 11:31Speaker 2: meaningful games in September. They're on a run right now,
- 11:35Speaker 2: but it's too late, so we didn't even really spend
- 11:37Speaker 2: much time talking about them. So, I don't want to
- 11:39Speaker 2: say jealousy. It's not like Brandon Lowe's like, ooh, I'm
- 11:41Speaker 2: jealous of the White Sox. I mean more of an
- 11:43Speaker 2: organizational comparison. He should be jealous of the White Sox, Brandon. Hey,
- 11:48Speaker 2: I mean he wishes he was in playoff contention right
- 11:51Speaker 2: now as any player would. But, AJ, the Pirates didn't
- 11:54Speaker 2: really accomplish the goal of being relevant in September, while
- 11:57Speaker 2: the White Sox I don't think most expected to be
- 12:01Speaker 2: relevant in September. And they're going to be in the postseason.
- 12:04Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it's all about what division you're in.
- 12:07Speaker 4: And I mean, let's, let's be honest here. The pirates
- 12:10Speaker 4: have beaten the white socks. If you watch both those games,
- 12:14Speaker 4: you know, last night, four to two, the first night,
- 12:15Speaker 4: I think seven to three or whatever. And it didn't
- 12:18Speaker 4: even seem that close of games. Um, white socks had
- 12:20Speaker 4: some chances last night, but it never really hit into
- 12:23Speaker 4: some double plays or whatever, but it it's because they're
- 12:27Speaker 4: in the national league. If the, if you, if you
- 12:29Speaker 4: put the pirates in the AL central and I'm an
- 12:30Speaker 4: AL central guy, it's been most of my career in
- 12:33Speaker 4: the AL central. Uh, I think they'd be in better shape.
- 12:36Speaker 4: I think they'd, they'd probably be the two seed right
- 12:39Speaker 4: now in the American league, like the White Sox are
- 12:41Speaker 4: be just because of the record and everything else. So,
- 12:44Speaker 4: and who you get to play the entire time you
- 12:46Speaker 4: get to play, you know, 13 against the twins, 13
- 12:49Speaker 4: against the guardians, 13 against tigers, 13 against the Royals.
- 12:52Speaker 4: And when you're in the NL central, you get 13
- 12:54Speaker 4: against the Brewers, 13 against the Cubs, 13 against Cardinals,
- 12:57Speaker 4: 13 against the Reds. And if you compare the division
- 12:59Speaker 4: by division, I would say the five in the NL central,
- 13:02Speaker 4: probably better than the five in the AL central. So,
- 13:04Speaker 4: I mean, as far as frustration goes, no. You can't
- 13:06Speaker 4: control where you play. You control the games you do. But, yeah,
- 13:09Speaker 4: maybe for some fans, they're like, gosh. I mean, every
- 13:11Speaker 4: team other than teams in the AL West go, man,
- 13:13Speaker 4: if we were only in the AL Central this year.
- 13:18Speaker 1: I can honestly say I never, as a player, I
- 13:20Speaker 1: never looked up and was like, man, I wonder what our,
- 13:23Speaker 1: you know, how we'd be doing if we were in
- 13:25Speaker 1: a different division. But as a non-player, I look at it,
- 13:29Speaker 1: and it's an honest, honest thing. Like, there's a lot
- 13:32Speaker 1: of teams that probably are like, You look at the Marlins,
- 13:36Speaker 1: or maybe Marlins ownership, or Marlins fans would say, man,
- 13:39Speaker 1: if we weren't in the National League East. But as
- 13:42Speaker 1: a player, to me, that's not really a thing that
- 13:46Speaker 1: I ever thought of. Did you know you were going
- 13:49Speaker 1: to face better pitching in the American League East, the
- 13:52Speaker 1: National League East? Yes. Those are where the better teams are.
- 13:56Speaker 1: But this year, the American League is a little bit down.
- 14:01Speaker 1: The Pirates made a little bit of a push to
- 14:03Speaker 1: add offense, which they felt like they needed. And with that,
- 14:08Speaker 1: their defense kind of took a little bit of a
- 14:11Speaker 1: step back. And then, you know, obviously they didn't have
- 14:15Speaker 1: any money left over for the bullpen. So they're five
- 14:18Speaker 1: games out. Like, this is where they're at. And I
- 14:20Speaker 1: think it's a– you can't look at the White Sox
- 14:23Speaker 1: and be like, man, I wish we were in the
- 14:25Speaker 1: American League Central. It would be fair. But when they realign,
- 14:28Speaker 1: when they add new teams with expansion– Who knows? We'll see.
- 14:31Speaker 1: That'll be a big discussion. Well, we were used to
- 14:34Speaker 1: being the American League Central. Now we're in the East,
- 14:37Speaker 1: or now we're in the South, or the North, whatever
- 14:40Speaker 1: they're going to call it.
- 14:42Speaker 4: They'll be Kings of the North. The White Sox will
- 14:45Speaker 4: still be Kings of the North. They're going to be
- 14:46Speaker 4: this year, except it's a Central. I'll tell you one thing.
- 14:51Speaker 4: That Central travel, y'all ain't know about that Central travel.
- 14:54Speaker 4: That Central travel was the best. Buncey said it yesterday.
- 15:01Speaker 4: Muncie said it yesterday. He's like, man, that travel in
- 15:03Speaker 4: that central, I can't imagine how good that would be.
- 15:06Speaker 4: It was nice.
- 15:07Speaker 2: It's so good you don't even need as much fuel
- 15:10Speaker 2: on your plane, right? You can basically have half a
- 15:13Speaker 2: plane like the Tigers.
- 15:15Speaker 4: Yeah. Sometimes when I was with the Twins back in
- 15:18Speaker 4: the day, that plane they had in Major League when
- 15:21Speaker 4: I was with the Twins back in the day, we
- 15:23Speaker 4: were lucky if we had one engine on our plane.
- 15:25Speaker 4: Sometimes we floated in.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Did you guys have to stop?
- 15:30Speaker 4: Not from Minnesota. Only time I ever had to stop
- 15:32Speaker 4: in the big leagues was when I went from Puerto
- 15:35Speaker 4: Rico to San Francisco. We had to stop on that one.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Wait, but from what I took, though, yesterday was Muncie
- 15:44Speaker 2: saying Scooble on the Tigers would have to stop on
- 15:48Speaker 2: a plane going coast to coast. Is that accurate?
- 15:53Speaker 1: In 2026?
- 15:53Speaker 4: Most of the time you don't go coast to coast.
- 15:57Speaker 1: You don't go.
- 15:58Speaker 4: I don't know how many times, I mean, I played
- 16:00Speaker 4: on the, you know, the East coast, there was the
- 16:02Speaker 4: Red Sox I played for and we never had to stop.
- 16:05Speaker 4: We just flew. So maybe we had a different plane,
- 16:07Speaker 4: but yeah, I don't know.
- 16:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:10Speaker 1: You would never, your schedule would never be like, Oh,
- 16:12Speaker 1: we're going to go play the Dodgers and then finish
- 16:14Speaker 1: out the road trip with the Marlins and the Braves.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Like if you're, if you're, you're going to the West coast,
- 16:20Speaker 1: if you're in a century, you're going to the central,
- 16:22Speaker 1: you're staying there, maybe hit like a Houston and then
- 16:25Speaker 1: bounce back home. But, Rarely would you go West coast
- 16:30Speaker 1: all the way to East coast. I'm sure it didn't
- 16:31Speaker 1: happen much. And I think he said that was the
- 16:35Speaker 1: old plane. Now they have a new plane, but I'm
- 16:38Speaker 1: not a hundred percent on that. I thought he said
- 16:40Speaker 1: it was their old plane.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Okay. We'll have to do some digging there. Our investigative
- 16:44Speaker 2: reporters on the.
- 16:45Speaker 4: Old plane, new plane.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Who gives it?
- 16:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Who gives it?
- 16:51Speaker 4: But if that's true, that's still, if that's true though,
- 16:56Speaker 4: that's still pretty incredible. And Max was great yesterday. Max
- 16:59Speaker 4: was awesome. If you haven't seen the Max Muncy interview,
- 17:02Speaker 4: it was awesome. He was great. Like he always is.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Exactly. And hey, if you want more on what happened
- 17:08Speaker 2: with the Sox, then Sox Machine is the spot. Just
- 17:11Speaker 2: giving them a shout out. There it is. QR code
- 17:14Speaker 2: on the screen. Subscribe to Sox Machine wherever you get
- 17:16Speaker 2: your podcasts or if you're watching on YouTube. What's good?
- 17:20Speaker 2: Seed Geek, it's that time. It's Thursday. So let's look
- 17:23Speaker 2: at what the weekend is going to bring us here
- 17:25Speaker 2: and where you might want to grab a seat. Seat
- 17:27Speaker 2: Geek rates at one to 10 for you, by the way,
- 17:29Speaker 2: so you can get a good seat. Rangers and Diamondbacks
- 17:32Speaker 2: starting up this weekend. I mean, if there's a sweep
- 17:35Speaker 2: in a series like that, AJ, it's the kind of
- 17:37Speaker 2: sweep that can end a season. I know the Diamondbacks
- 17:40Speaker 2: maybe have a little bit more if they fall apart,
- 17:43Speaker 2: like over one series coming up because the Padres are
- 17:46Speaker 2: still up on the schedule for them at the end
- 17:48Speaker 2: of the year, although that's in San Diego. But that
- 17:51Speaker 2: one stands out to me as a big one to watch.
- 17:53Speaker 2: What else?
- 17:53Speaker 4: You know, Orioles, Blue Jays, that could be an elimination series.
- 18:00Speaker 4: I mean, that's a big one. Astros, Rays, the Rays
- 18:05Speaker 4: are playing so well, they're beating the crap out of everybody.
- 18:07Speaker 4: So if they go into Houston, Houston blew the big
- 18:09Speaker 4: lead last night. Those are the two, excuse me, that
- 18:12Speaker 4: really stand out.
- 18:15Speaker 1: I think this is an absolute slam dunk that Major
- 18:18Speaker 1: League Baseball made this happen. What is tomorrow, September 11th?
- 18:23Speaker 1: Who is playing this whole weekend on the 25th anniversary
- 18:26Speaker 1: commemorating one of the saddest days in our country. And
- 18:31Speaker 1: the fact that New York is playing New York in
- 18:34Speaker 1: the subway series, go get your tickets.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Yeah, that had to happen. Very well done on the
- 18:41Speaker 2: schedule front. Sometimes we have questions about the schedule. This
- 18:45Speaker 2: is a tip of the cap and we're going to
- 18:47Speaker 2: do a segment on, what's about to happen there and
- 18:50Speaker 2: a big documentary coming out. We'll do all of that
- 18:52Speaker 2: a little bit later in the show with a special guest,
- 18:54Speaker 2: but I'm with you. So there's plenty of action to
- 18:57Speaker 2: keep an eye on from the weekend. I mean, the
- 18:58Speaker 2: guardians still have to do their thing and they're facing
- 19:01Speaker 2: a twins team. That's toast at this point. Twins can
- 19:04Speaker 2: hit a little bit this year, but they couldn't do
- 19:06Speaker 2: enough on the run prevention front.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Look up. Yeah.
- 19:11Speaker 4: The guardians, you know, the guardians played the Orioles.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:14Speaker 4: Whatever the guardians are, as Kevin said, they're going to
- 19:16Speaker 4: catch the white socks.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Not the, They're not going to catch the White Sox. But, AJ,
- 19:22Speaker 2: they're in the driver's seat for a wild card.
- 19:26Speaker 1: They are. They are.
- 19:27Speaker 4: And Cody Clemens had a nice year. I know what
- 19:28Speaker 4: you're going to say, Krauts. Oh, no, no.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I was just going to say he overtook the
- 19:32Speaker 1: lead for home runs for the Twins. He might have
- 19:35Speaker 1: a shot at 30.
- 19:35Speaker 2: I think he's at 26.
- 19:39Speaker 1: Yep.
- 19:39Speaker 2: Good for him. All right, so for you, the number
- 19:42Speaker 2: is 10. 10% off tickets. The code is territory 10
- 19:46Speaker 2: at SeatGeek. So download the app and make sure you
- 19:49Speaker 2: click the link in the description. And then you have
- 19:51Speaker 2: the code automatically added to your account so that you
- 19:54Speaker 2: can use it later on SeatGeek, the official ticket marketplace
- 19:57Speaker 2: of major league baseball. No game is sold out. Just
- 20:00Speaker 2: go to SeatGeek. Hey, the Phillies won yesterday. Exciting win
- 20:03Speaker 2: for them as they get closer and closer to hosting
- 20:05Speaker 2: home field for that wild card round. But Did you
- 20:09Speaker 2: guys see this stat? Bryce Harper has now lost 9
- 20:11Speaker 2: of 14 challenges in the first inning of games. He's
- 20:15Speaker 2: challenged more first inning calls as a batter than 18 teams. Kratz,
- 20:19Speaker 2: you're watching a lot of Philly. What's the word here?
- 20:21Speaker 2: What's going on?
- 20:23Speaker 1: You know, I haven't heard much of a scruffle about it,
- 20:27Speaker 1: but it is not a good number. I mean, I
- 20:32Speaker 1: think some teams maybe don't use it enough. Other teams
- 20:36Speaker 1: don't understand the importance of it, and I think If
- 20:39Speaker 1: you're losing that many in the first inning, I don't
- 20:42Speaker 1: care if you're a superstar or not, I think it's
- 20:43Speaker 1: something that you have to be able to say, hey,
- 20:47Speaker 1: maybe we curtail this a little bit. Or why do
- 20:50Speaker 1: you feel like it's so important in the first inning
- 20:53Speaker 1: to try to win those challenges?
- 20:56Speaker 2: Yeah, AJ, you better be careful in October.
- 20:58Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's going to be interesting to see
- 21:02Speaker 4: how the challenges go in October. I mean, again, I
- 21:05Speaker 4: did a game not long ago where The Braves were
- 21:07Speaker 4: out of challenges four hitters into the game. Drake Baldwin
- 21:09Speaker 4: used one, and then Ronald Acuna, first hitter, and a
- 21:11Speaker 4: ball that was all up in the plate. I mean,
- 21:14Speaker 4: I've seen pitchers' challenges lately, which you thought that we
- 21:18Speaker 4: had gotten rid of, where pitchers are challenging calls. So
- 21:22Speaker 4: I think it's going to be interesting to see the
- 21:24Speaker 4: strategy of this in the postseason. But, yeah, Bryce has
- 21:27Speaker 4: been bad, which surprises me because he knows the strike
- 21:29Speaker 4: zone really, really well. So I'd love to know if
- 21:31Speaker 4: those were the balls at the upper part of the
- 21:33Speaker 4: zone because that's the one that seems to give people
- 21:35Speaker 4: the most fits.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Yeah, in first inning, you've got to be careful. Then
- 21:40Speaker 2: you're getting nervous about the second one if you drop
- 21:42Speaker 2: the first.
- 21:44Speaker 4: Not if you're Bryce Harper.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Not him, but the team, I'm saying.
- 21:48Speaker 4: No, but I'm saying, what's the team going to say? Hey, Bryce,
- 21:51Speaker 4: stop challenging?
- 21:52Speaker 2: No.
- 21:52Speaker 4: No.
- 21:56Speaker 2: Hey, we appreciate and respect the way that Pat Murphy
- 21:59Speaker 2: does his job. It's so different from how most managers
- 22:01Speaker 2: do it. Brandon Sprote in yesterday's win for the Brewers
- 22:04Speaker 2: had four walks with a seven-run lead in the ninth.
- 22:07Speaker 2: And Murph said, it's unacceptable. You've got to throw the
- 22:10Speaker 2: ball over the plate or you can't be a major
- 22:12Speaker 2: league pitcher. They optioned him, AJ.
- 22:14Speaker 4: I didn't know they optioned him.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Yeah, they just did today.
- 22:19Speaker 4: Oof, that's rough. It's got those 100 miles an hour,
- 22:21Speaker 4: big part of the Mets trade with him. But, yeah,
- 22:25Speaker 4: you've got a seven. Listen, Krauts will tell you, I'd
- 22:28Speaker 4: rather have you give up seven solo homers in a
- 22:30Speaker 4: row than walk four guys in a row. Because you
- 22:32Speaker 4: walk four guys in a row, guess what happens? You
- 22:34Speaker 4: have to bring in someone else. You have to bring
- 22:36Speaker 4: in your Reva, and they barely hung on. But I'd
- 22:38Speaker 4: rather have you give up seven solo homers in a
- 22:40Speaker 4: row than walk guys because you just can't defend it.
- 22:43Speaker 4: You have no chance. Hitters will tell pitchers all the
- 22:47Speaker 4: time how hard hitting is. Pitchers don't believe it.
- 22:51Speaker 1: They don't. And I don't know, like last night, it
- 22:53Speaker 1: didn't look like it was a, oh, he was trying
- 22:55Speaker 1: to nibble. It was, he was trying, I mean, by
- 22:58Speaker 1: the end of that, by like the third walk, during
- 23:00Speaker 1: the third walk, Contreras was like sitting up, setting up
- 23:03Speaker 1: down the middle. They were big misses. And this isn't
- 23:07Speaker 1: the first time that Murph has said some poignant remarks
- 23:11Speaker 1: about Sprote. So Sprote's got to, he's got to make
- 23:15Speaker 1: the adjustments.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Yeah, meanwhile, the Brewers need to adjust to nothing. They're
- 23:20Speaker 2: going to run, run, run away with the division after
- 23:23Speaker 2: doing what they did to the Cubs. They swept them.
- 23:25Speaker 2: They faced them seven times in the last 10 days.
- 23:28Speaker 2: They won five of those games. It actually has pushed
- 23:31Speaker 2: the Cubs back to a dangerous zone where they're going
- 23:34Speaker 2: to be on the road for that wildcard game. And Philly,
- 23:37Speaker 2: most likely, they're two back in the loss column here.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Magic numbers down to five for the Brewers. Let's taste
- 23:44Speaker 1: some champagne.
- 23:56Speaker 2: The good, the bad, the ugly. The good, the Padres
- 23:58Speaker 2: win against the Nationals. They sweep them. The Diamondbacks lost.
- 24:03Speaker 2: That helps the Padres. Padres and Diamondbacks, even in the
- 24:06Speaker 2: wildcard standings as of this segment. The bad and the ugly? Well,
- 24:12Speaker 2: it was weird. Walker Buehler after two and a third
- 24:15Speaker 2: laboring gets removed from the game, Craig Stammen does it,
- 24:20Speaker 2: but there was some discussion going on and there appeared
- 24:23Speaker 2: to be a mishap. Although Stammen Padres manager tried to
- 24:27Speaker 2: clear it up post game and we have sound from Stammen.
- 24:30Speaker 2: So let's get his explanation of what happened. If they
- 24:33Speaker 2: meant to pull him, if they knew that there had
- 24:35Speaker 2: already been a mound visit during that inning. Yeah, he did.
- 24:39Speaker 3: He picked me up. You know, it was amazing outing
- 24:42Speaker 3: by him. I think, When I left the dugout, I
- 24:45Speaker 3: was very convicted that I was going to put him
- 24:46Speaker 3: in the game. And then that 90 feet to the mound,
- 24:50Speaker 3: there was a lot of things going on in my head.
- 24:52Speaker 3: And unfortunately, it worked out really well that Kyle came in,
- 24:56Speaker 3: got CJ out in that big spot, and then was
- 24:59Speaker 3: able to get Morales out right after that. So Kyle
- 25:00Speaker 3: Hart's done that a lot this season. He's really picked
- 25:03Speaker 3: up our starters, picked up our bullpen, been able to
- 25:05Speaker 3: pitch a lot of innings and get through games. And basically,
- 25:08Speaker 3: especially when we were doing the bullpen games, he was
- 25:11Speaker 3: a big piece of our success. I talked myself out
- 25:13Speaker 3: of it or into it about seven times. But one
- 25:17Speaker 3: of those things like I've got to be more decisive
- 25:20Speaker 3: in the moment or in that walk to the mound.
- 25:22Speaker 3: I was decisive in the dugout and less decisive as
- 25:24Speaker 3: I went. And when you get less decisive, the game
- 25:26Speaker 3: speeds up on you and you make a decision that
- 25:29Speaker 3: you probably shouldn't make. But it worked out really well.
- 25:32Speaker 3: We've got a great team. They've picked me up all year.
- 25:34Speaker 3: They continue to do that.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Today was a prime example of that. Yeah, Kyle Hart
- 25:39Speaker 2: was able to help them get out of trouble. And
- 25:40Speaker 2: really then the Padres bullpen was nails the rest of
- 25:44Speaker 2: the way in a Jackson Merrill game. Two homers, triple,
- 25:47Speaker 2: six RBIs, all around great win for the Padres. But
- 25:50Speaker 2: this part was weird. Do you believe Stammen's explanation? You
- 25:53Speaker 2: always want to believe everyone when they say, hey, we're
- 25:57Speaker 2: going to take him out. Then he talked us into it,
- 25:59Speaker 2: but then we both forgot that there was already a
- 26:02Speaker 2: mound visit, so second visit, you got to take him out.
- 26:04Speaker 2: Do you believe the story?
- 26:08Speaker 4: I believe the fact that he told us something, so
- 26:10Speaker 4: I like that. Whether it's true or not, who knows, Kratz?
- 26:15Speaker 4: I mean, managers, you know what's funny is if they
- 26:18Speaker 4: would have lost this game, it would be such a
- 26:19Speaker 4: bigger story. but because they won this game, he's like, ah,
- 26:22Speaker 4: it's so funny. But imagine if Tony Vitello would have
- 26:27Speaker 4: done this, right? Where they forgot how many outs there were,
- 26:30Speaker 4: how many mound visits they had or someone on the
- 26:33Speaker 4: hot seat. Then it would have been like, oh man, look,
- 26:34Speaker 4: this guy doesn't know what he's doing. Craig Stammen's a
- 26:37Speaker 4: first year guy too, but because they're winning and right
- 26:39Speaker 4: now they're have a great shot at going to the postseason.
- 26:41Speaker 4: Everyone's like, ha ha, look how funny that was. Remember
- 26:44Speaker 4: when Gabe Calvert did this and Brought in the guy
- 26:46Speaker 4: who wasn't warming up. Everyone's like, look at this guy.
- 26:48Speaker 4: He doesn't know what he's doing. But Padres are in
- 26:50Speaker 4: the playoffs. Ha, this guy's great, man. Look how funny
- 26:53Speaker 4: it is. Kyle Hart picked us up. Let's go team.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't think Gabe Kaplan knew what he was doing.
- 26:57Speaker 1: But I think the decision that he was making on
- 27:03Speaker 1: the way to the mound, you can have brain farts.
- 27:06Speaker 1: So I would agree that he had a brain fart.
- 27:10Speaker 1: I think he's hemming and hawing about going out there.
- 27:14Speaker 1: and maybe he's thinking so much about it. And I know, shoot,
- 27:18Speaker 1: I coach high school baseball, and I'm constantly, people think like, oh, well,
- 27:24Speaker 1: 85 pitches, that's usually when you take your pitcher out. Like,
- 27:27Speaker 1: that's when you think about it. No, I think, I
- 27:28Speaker 1: started thinking about it at 50 pitches, at 60 pitches,
- 27:33Speaker 1: like who's going to get warmed up, all that stuff.
- 27:36Speaker 1: So there's, Things that he was thinking and the inning
- 27:40Speaker 1: was kind of getting out of hand for Walker Bueller.
- 27:42Speaker 1: And I think it ended up being the right idea
- 27:45Speaker 1: to go out to the mound because Ruben Niebla had
- 27:49Speaker 1: already gone out, the Padres pitching coach. They already had
- 27:52Speaker 1: their conversation. And when that happens, I might give you
- 27:56Speaker 1: a leash of like maybe two more hitters. depending on
- 28:00Speaker 1: how the matchups go, depending on where the lefty is.
- 28:03Speaker 1: And I just think on that 90 feet to the mound,
- 28:07Speaker 1: I think he kind of had a brain fart. I
- 28:09Speaker 1: don't see any reason knowing Craig, the little bit that
- 28:13Speaker 1: I know him, I feel like if he was like,
- 28:16Speaker 1: holy cow, I just completely forgot that we had another
- 28:18Speaker 1: mound visit. I think he would have said it. So
- 28:21Speaker 1: I'm going to go on the side of Craig had
- 28:24Speaker 1: a brain fart.
- 28:28Speaker 2: You know, Padres. I don't want to say Padres fans
- 28:32Speaker 2: were just people on socials were like, I thought way
- 28:35Speaker 2: too rude. Like, Oh, Bueller stinks, take them out. Whatever.
- 28:37Speaker 2: I'm like, he's filled a nice role for San Diego
- 28:42Speaker 2: this year. There's definitely been some good starts and some
- 28:44Speaker 2: bad ones, but I mean, the ERA is in the
- 28:47Speaker 2: mid fours. He's eaten a ton of innings for a
- 28:49Speaker 2: rotation that at a couple of points had just about nothing. Now,
- 28:54Speaker 2: of course, yeah, here comes Nick Pavetta. I know Musgrove's
- 28:57Speaker 2: going through his issues still. They've lost a number of
- 28:59Speaker 2: guys throughout the course of the season. Remember last year,
- 29:02Speaker 2: I mean, if you looked at this rotation heading into
- 29:03Speaker 2: this year, you were like, oh, they have Darvish, they
- 29:05Speaker 2: have Musgrove, they have Pavetta, right? But here comes Walker
- 29:09Speaker 2: Buehler eating innings. So I just want to give him
- 29:11Speaker 2: some credit there. I know it wasn't his day necessarily yesterday,
- 29:14Speaker 2: but I mean, even I'm pretty sure the start before
- 29:16Speaker 2: I think was the Yankees start, right? Yeah. Five innings,
- 29:20Speaker 2: one run, two walks, six punch outs. Like there's been
- 29:22Speaker 2: some good moments for Walker Buehler. Kratz football season is
- 29:28Speaker 2: back and Fabletics knows all about it. They just paired

- 30:31Speaker 2: Jazz Chisholm on the I-L, a sprained right thumb for him.
- 30:35Speaker 2: So he's going to be shut down from baseball activities
- 30:37Speaker 2: for the next seven to 10 days. Can we show
- 30:39Speaker 2: the other one too? We'll get both and then get
- 30:42Speaker 2: the thoughts from the two. Lombard Jr., George, was asked
- 30:45Speaker 2: if it's awkward for Anthony Volpe getting called back up.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Volpe's been hitting well in the minors right now. And
- 30:51Speaker 2: Lombard said, we're all in the baseball world. We know
- 30:52Speaker 2: what the baseball world is like. Anything can happen. Excited
- 30:54Speaker 2: to have them. Excited to work together. I mean, AJ, sure,
- 30:57Speaker 2: you can ask the question, but what do you want
- 30:59Speaker 2: the kid to say? Also, it's his teammate. I mean,
- 31:01Speaker 2: he wants to win. And I don't think Lombard's too
- 31:03Speaker 2: worried about Volpe stealing his job long term at this point.
- 31:07Speaker 2: He had a four-year lead. It's not happening. Lombard's the
- 31:10Speaker 2: shortstop of the future.
- 31:11Speaker 4: I mean, what's he supposed to say? Yeah, he sucks.
- 31:13Speaker 4: He's a bad teammate. We don't want him here. I mean,
- 31:16Speaker 4: he pretty much said it the best he could say it.
- 31:18Speaker 4: I mean, in the back of your mind, you always
- 31:20Speaker 4: know this, and I tried to explain this to people,
- 31:23Speaker 4: and Kratz I'm pretty sure would agree with me on this.
- 31:26Speaker 4: It's pretty easy to get to the big leagues, easy
- 31:28Speaker 4: in a relative sense. It's really hard to stay in
- 31:33Speaker 4: the big leagues because when you are in the big
- 31:35Speaker 4: leagues and you are a big league shortstop, there is
- 31:38Speaker 4: every shortstop in every minor league system, trying to take
- 31:42Speaker 4: your job. Then if you play or play long enough,
- 31:45Speaker 4: there's kids in high school, in college. Heck, if you
- 31:48Speaker 4: play as long as certain people did, you know, 19, 20,
- 31:51Speaker 4: 20 years, there's kids that, heck, aren't even born yet
- 31:54Speaker 4: that are coming up that aren't even, they're trying to
- 31:56Speaker 4: take your job by the time you get to the end.
- 31:58Speaker 4: So it is a constant battle. And if you have
- 32:00Speaker 4: someone on your own team and you're worried about them
- 32:02Speaker 4: taking your job, you're probably not in the right job.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Do you remember the movie Dazed and Confused? I'm not
- 32:08Speaker 1: going to repeat the line, but he said it this way,
- 32:10Speaker 1: and we used to say it about baseball. If you
- 32:13Speaker 1: think you got a job in the big leagues, someone
- 32:16Speaker 1: stays the same age. Every year, there's another 18-year-old prospect,
- 32:22Speaker 1: sometimes 16-year-old prospect that's coming into an organization that's going
- 32:25Speaker 1: to take your job. So if you don't produce, he gone.
- 32:29Speaker 1: They're going to get somebody else. And Volpe, to me,
- 32:32Speaker 1: still a positive big league player. Is he the franchise?
- 32:37Speaker 1: Is he the next? No, he might have to roll
- 32:39Speaker 1: into that utility role. He can still field it. Maybe
- 32:42Speaker 1: second base is better for him. But just like Lombard said, hey,
- 32:46Speaker 1: you got to work with somebody new now.
- 32:48Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Yeah, you just want to rack some wins up here
- 32:53Speaker 2: if you're the Yankees and try and go as deep
- 32:55Speaker 2: into October as possible. And then Lombard's going to get
- 32:59Speaker 2: the chance to run with this thing for the next
- 33:01Speaker 2: several years if he's got it, right? The tools are
- 33:03Speaker 2: there for Volpe. Yeah, utility... Or maybe he ends up
- 33:06Speaker 2: on a different team.
- 33:09Speaker 1: Made a few adjustments in the minor leagues. See if
- 33:11Speaker 1: it applies to.
- 33:12Speaker 3: The big leagues.
- 33:16Speaker 2: Hey, congratulations to Jose Altuve. 2,500 career hits in his
- 33:21Speaker 2: 16th season. AJ, can he get to 3,000? Or are
- 33:25Speaker 2: we too deep into the career here? Bueller?
- 33:32Speaker 1: Yes, I would say.
- 33:34Speaker 4: I'm muted, sorry. I told you I'm sick and I
- 33:37Speaker 4: keep coughing and sneezing, so I'm trying to mute it
- 33:39Speaker 4: whenever possible. But 100%, I think he gets there. I
- 33:42Speaker 4: think he's going to play long enough. He's going to
- 33:43Speaker 4: get there in an Astros uniform. I also think Freddie
- 33:45Speaker 4: Freeman will get there. <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>.
- 33:48Speaker 2: <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>.
- 33:53Speaker 1: <HAL> <HAL>.
- 33:55Speaker 2: Yeah, Freeman's at 2,587. 102 human beings in history have
- 33:58Speaker 2: made it to 2,500 career hits.
- 34:07Speaker 1: That's a lot of hits.
- 34:08Speaker 4: How many catchers? How many catchers have got 2,500? Ask
- 34:11Speaker 4: yourself that.
- 34:13Speaker 2: How many?
- 34:14Speaker 3: Zero?
- 34:15Speaker 4: I think there's only one. I think Pudge is the
- 34:17Speaker 4: only one. But there might be two. I thought Pudge
- 34:20Speaker 4: was the only one.
- 34:21Speaker 2: He's the only one to get to 2,500? I believe so.
- 34:25Speaker 3: Wow.
- 34:26Speaker 1: It's so tough to do catcher any position because you've
- 34:30Speaker 1: got to be in the big leagues early. What was Pudge? 19,
- 34:32Speaker 1: 20 when he was in the big leagues? That is
- 34:35Speaker 1: so tough to do. AJ, you played You played for
- 34:38Speaker 1: 19 seasons, and I think you were like, what, like
- 34:41Speaker 1: 290 hitter in the big leagues? And you got 2,000 hits?
- 34:44Speaker 1: So the catching position, we're never going to see a
- 34:46Speaker 1: 3,000-hit catcher. And just to do that, it's just you're
- 34:52Speaker 1: going to have to be like a Jordan Alvarez type
- 34:55Speaker 1: that really can do everything. You can still drive the ball.
- 34:59Speaker 1: You still hit 300. But even then, with so much power?
- 35:03Speaker 1: They're going to start walking him. They're going to start
- 35:05Speaker 1: walking him and putting him on. He started his career early. Maybe,
- 35:09Speaker 1: I guess, if I were to choose somebody, there would
- 35:11Speaker 1: be the spot. That's just so tough to do.
- 35:17Speaker 2: That's why Pudge's name has popped up again recently since
- 35:21Speaker 2: Salas came up, Ethan Salas, for the Padres, right? Because
- 35:24Speaker 2: he was the youngest to pop up as a catcher
- 35:28Speaker 2: since Pudge, 1991.
- 35:31Speaker 4: Heath and Ziles needs to get one hit first before
- 35:33Speaker 4: you can worry about 2,500 hits.
- 35:34Speaker 2: That's fair.
- 35:35Speaker 4: First one's hard. First one's hard.
- 35:47Speaker 2: All right, people. Let's slap. Last minute, we have bring
- 35:53Speaker 2: up something wild and crazy. So, Mark Feinsand, reporter for MLB.com,
- 36:00Speaker 2: in an article mentioned that Spencer Strider was part of
- 36:05Speaker 2: the discussions that the Braves had with the Rangers for
- 36:08Speaker 2: Jacob deGrom. Okay.
- 36:12Speaker 3: I would be excited.
- 36:13Speaker 4: What did the Braves think of him?
- 36:15Speaker 1: I honestly thought they would make a big move with
- 36:18Speaker 1: Schwellenbach being hurt. I know Schwellenbach's got a much cheaper,
- 36:23Speaker 1: brighter future. in a sense of, like, fearful of Strider
- 36:27Speaker 1: never coming back. But either of those guys, that would
- 36:32Speaker 1: have been big. And DeGrom would have slotted in quite
- 36:36Speaker 1: nicely into a rotation that may need some help.
- 36:40Speaker 2: Yeah. And Strider's making some money. Is he making a
- 36:42Speaker 2: lot of money? No. But maybe to offset some money
- 36:45Speaker 2: that would be coming towards the Braves, that would have happened.
- 36:48Speaker 2: But DeGrom vetoed it.
- 36:50Speaker 4: All right.
- 36:51Speaker 2: We're out of here. But, yeah. We'll stay on YouTube.
