I also want to give a quick shout out to my nephew Dylan, who graduated from the Philadelphia Police Academy last week. Yeah, he's ⁓ he's graduating. He's on the streets now in Philadelphia, so Herbie: Yeah. That was a good time. Yeah. Good for him. Congratulations. Shamus: I was kinda like me and you were talking before this. I was kinda upset because graduation pitcher, he had a beard. Like my day, bro. Every graduation academy I've ever come out of, I look like a Nazi, cleanly shaven. Man, I was so pissed off when I saw Herbie: Man. I guess, you know, that you know what you said before too is like, you know, beards are in and you know, is everyone's you know at least it wasn't like some kind of like unkept b like, you know, I know it's still what you what you mean so it's not like Shamus: Well, I get it's not just him. I get mad if if a cop pulls me over and they got a bit like the one ⁓ trooper I work with ⁓ at the school, like he's he had a mustache like half of the year and I'm like, Bro, if I was your fucking cat, I would whip that off and beat you about your head with it. Like, what the fuck is with that mustache? And he was just like he finally sh like I beat him down so bad about it, he shaved it. So But yeah, man, if you're a law enforcement and public safety, I'm a firm believer you should be cleanless. A buddy of mine I worked with for years, we're really good friends to this day. He's one of the few guys I still kick it with from the job. Lives over in South Philly, and he's got a beard that comes like it's almost like Z Z top level. And I'm like, nah, dude. That's if I was the chief or the captain, that shit's got to go. Herbie: Maybe he hides his badge in the beard or something. Shamus: To me. ⁓ But I you know, the first academy I ever went to was, you know, truly the best one. You know, home of the Nazis. Yeah. United States Army Military Police Corps. And I'm just we're I've just I'm not used to that shit. Yeah. So other than that, my week kinda sucked. How was yours? Herbie: It was it was all right. I I w a friend of mine's father unfortunately passed away, so Yeah, thanks, man. so it's they're it's a Hindu family and ⁓ ev like in they have a a a procedure where like in six months, I guess they have like another ceremony, I guess, for in order for him to like ⁓ to pay homage to the to not only, you know, his father the pass away, Darmin. May you rest in peace, Darmin. Shamus: Sorry to hear that, bud. Herbie: And the rest of the ancestors. So of course there's like, you know, food offerings. There's like, you know, there's there's a yogi that's that's there. And we're sitting there on the floor, you know, reciting the prayers. And it's just like a it's a long ceremony. And it was nice because like my buddy, you know, he he was like ⁓ wasn't sure if he w if I wanted to be there for the whole thing. I was like, Hell yeah, man, you're my boy, so ⁓ I'll be there. So he tried to consolidate the time for us, you know, for other people outside of the family to come visit. But it was just a it was a nice offering and it was a it was a nice time. The family's very giving, very, very kind, very sweet. ⁓ get to learn a little bit more about ⁓ other people's religions and it was like, you know, they believe in reincarnation and like everyone sharing the same type of energy where Whatever you do, if you if you do s harm to like another person, you're basically not only hurting that other person, but you're also paying disrespect to God. You know what I mean? It was it was it was nice. It was just like a like a like an intrinsic energy. It was almost like the fools. So it was cool. And they start playing some music. Yeah, we all picked up like little errants instruments and had and you know, played music and they were they were singing. And it was kind of cool too because when you see like the the language, like the books and stuff, it's like it's really cool. It's almost looks like Sanskrit and stuff like that. I'm not sure, but I'm I'm gonna try to learn more about his religion and stuff because it it's just interesting to learn. But we started drinking this stuff called Kava. And ⁓ Kava's like basically the they're they're from Fiji, so it's like ⁓ like a almost like a root. from a specific type of tree. So they they dig up the root and you bash it with rocks, you know, like and kinda beat it and get the pulp and then you run through water and you filter it. And what it does is it's ⁓ gets you a little bit boum boum bound. Yeah, it's pretty cool. Yeah, it's like a it's it it it's it basically tingles like your mouth and tongue and a little bit of your throat. And it's just like basically it it kind of relaxes you and just Shamus: But Herbie: You know, it's it's ⁓ with the ceremony there, so there was just a like vegetarian meals and beverages, but there was no alcohol and no no meats or anything like that. But the kava was allowed because it I guess it's like naturals. But I'm sure like any listeners that are listening should probably understand what kava is, but it was it was it was cool. It wasn't it was a nice time. So it was just like another new drink that I got a chance to try and another religion I got to experience, which was which was cool, you know, just have an open mind and Shamus: Yeah, it is a it's actually pretty it's I mean, death across the board no matter what your nationality is sucks. But it's it's amazing to see how different, you know, religions, cultures, people, you know, handle it. Some people celebrate it. Yeah. Some people, you know, mourn it and stuff. ⁓ I'm Irish, so when my father passed away, you know, we all Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: Got together and kind of, you know, held up the shot glass and did the whole may he be in heaven a half hour before the devil know he be dead kind of and you know gave a shot. And like that's how we handle shit, like the Irish and drink and stuff like that. But ⁓ yeah, it it's pretty interesting to see how some people handle it. Now you said like com is that kind of like the shit and young guns, like the pyotype stuff they like you said you're all like bam, bam some iron butterfly shit. Herbie: Yeah. Yeah, they said you see the size of that chicken It's definitely not like peyote, but it's it's it's I guess it's more like Shamus: How comes they ain't shooting us? We're in a spirit world, asshole they can't see us. Herbie: Yeah. Big shout out to Young Guns. Shamus: Yeah, I mean they were all i is that what covet does to you? Is it that kind of Herbie: 'cause I think peyote's more like a hallucinogenic one, where this one is like it's it's like a like a sedative so it it just makes you really relaxed, cleans you out and stuff like that. Well well yeah never it's like a diuretic that just cleans you out. But it's it's just yeah, it's like a Yeah. It's it's it's funny too 'cause like it doesn't really have much of a taste. When you look at it at first, it's almost looks like like weak version of like cocoa powder mix in water. But it Shamus: What do you mean, like crap yourself or Herbie: Did after a while I was just sitting there and it's like okay, relax, it's starting to feel like a little buzz. And he was like, Yeah, man. He's like, Don't worry, you'll you start he he always says like a thing, if if you're hanging out with your friends, you guys have an argument, you start drinking kava. By the end of the night, everyone's all forgiving and Yeah, there's no fights or nothing like that, which is cool. So that's another thing that we talked about that I'd like to go there and ⁓ drink Kava in in Fiji and you know, because he still has family and stuff there at Fiji, so it'd be nice to experience all that too. That's a trip, bro. Yeah. Travel. Shamus: That's like an easy twenty six hours of trip. Exactly where we're at on the other side of it. It's like eight hours from California to get there. Like it's that's a trip, man. I always wanted to go there too. But is that like the craziest shit you've ever drank in a ceremony or anything like that? Herbie: Yeah. The other side of the planet. Well ceremony like that, yeah, 'cause that's you I've I've tried other stuff, but you know, I you know, I go to Japan, I like sake and ⁓ you know of course me I you know, I like to drink all weird different beers and stuff. Shamus: I know you love sake 'cause I mean I I've that was the first time I've ever had it was with you. Yes. At one of them random parties. It's like you walked in with like that four foot bottle of shit with Chinese writing on it. And the first thing I thought I was like that better not be soju 'cause I've had that Herbie: Yeah. And I've had it from there. Shamus: Like the real shit. I was like, Man, if that's a joy, fuck Herbie: Yeah, I tell you at the end of the night when you start speaking a whole different other language, man. Yeah, so do you yeah. Woo Yeah. And ⁓ I just I drink all that stuff. But you know, I'm that dude that always has something weird and something to drink. You know, everyone someone sometimes you know at the parties and stuff people are looking in the coolers and it's like there's Bud Lights and you know, coronas and yinlings and then there's like, you know Shamus: It's that? Have you ever had social? Herbie: Herbs. Yeah, asahi and Sapporo beer and you know, Chimay or something. Yeah, I always like to try different stuff. I don't really like to stick with the mainstream. Shamus: Yeah, I got all hopped up. ⁓ I didn't have it while I was there, but a buddy of my Robbie, he was stationed there for a minute and he bought it back with him when he was in Japan. ⁓ I don't know how he got it through custom or but but he came in the house and I was like, ooh, he came into my house with it. And for those of you who have never had it, it's pretty much like when you're in Korea they mix it with Kool-Aid and shit because you can very you can't taste and you'd be like slamming those things. Yeah. Herbie: Yeah. Yeah. Shamus: Yeah, but but the first time you get up to take a piss after you had like three kettles, which are big ass bowls like fish bowls, you get up to take a piss. You feel fine. But as soon as you get up, there's something in that stuff that it goes from your stomach to your toes all the way to your brain. And like you're pfft, I mean it hits you that hard that fast. ⁓ man, is it a drunk, bro? Yeah. ⁓ I've never drank it in I mean, we've done shots of it, but I've never drank a whole bottle of it. Like the soju stuff, man. We got Herbie: Yeah. ⁓ yeah, same thing with sake too. ⁓ yeah, yeah that's true too. Yeah. I drank that shit too, man. I drank everything, man. I even like there was like ⁓ we used to watch Dark Angel with Byron and Tommy and we would always have like a Yeah, we had a huge crush on her, man. love Jessica Alba. It was we would we always have like a theme, like you know, with like a beer theme. I always like like we we would all get like one different beer to get you like a twelve pack or whatever. So we get like Russian beers or you know, ⁓ Shamus: How about shit? Herbie: Polish beers and like the one beer that I got, I remember it was like this big German bottle, but it came with a toy truck. I was like, ⁓ that's perfect. You know? I forget what it was. It was basically like the toy truck. It was like the the you know, the ⁓ yeah, it's a well it was like it was like a big huge like bottle with the ceramic ⁓ cap. Shamus: Yeah. Herbie: And then inside the box, of course, too, was this was the toy truck with the same logo. It was almost like they're transporting and stuff. And there was a British beer that I liked. It was called Double A double ass. Or double double A double S. It was like Os. Os Yeah, it was like Os beer. It was like it was yeah, it was spelled double A with double S. So let's just I used to call it just ass beer. And he used to look just wrong. And it was like came in big cans and I'd be like, Yeah, I wanna tap that ass. Let's go. Gli click gluc gluck glick gluck gluc gli. But ⁓ Yeah, I'm definitely that guy like in our group that comes with a bunch of weird different stuff. I mean, some people are apprehensive, you know, they don't know if they want to try it. Like ⁓ while back, ⁓ if Tommy's listening and Shar and them, ⁓ I did like these qu a sake bomb quail legs. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, was it the b yeah, the backyard, yeah. ⁓ huh. So basically Shamus: Well I did I was there for that. I don't want no parts of it, but I watched that shit. Herbie: Some people like after a while it was basically for people listening, it it looks like ⁓ the quail legs. So the raw quail legs. They look like the little ⁓ Cadbury Easter egg candies. So they're really tiny. ⁓ they're brown in it, but these dark brown spots and it really came in like this cute little egg carton type thing. And I got it at the H Mart grocery store. And of course I have ⁓ sake and I had Japanese beer and it just basically take a small ⁓ shot glass, you put the raw egg in there, and it's like really tiny. And then you put a shot of sake in there and then you just, you know, you drop it in the beer and just chug it. And it's like that's like the the the egg is like the last thing that goes down. But it just it passes, you know. Shamus: It's like the worm in tequila, brother. Herbie: Yeah. It's like we have more like nostalgia and stuff. There was ⁓ there was even a one time ⁓ I was we were having a party and I went to like family dollar or something like that. I was looking for cheap cups the girl was like, ⁓ what are you what are you doing? I like, Well, I'm having a little party, I'm gonna try to make drinks. She's like, You gotta try this this ⁓ jungle juice stuff that I that I know about. And everyone has their own versions of ⁓ yeah. And I I I used that batch a couple of times. So like work actually had this very large, like catering type ⁓ drink dispenser that could be used for either hot or cold. And it held a lot. And it had like, you know, the legs and everything you put on top of the table and it had like the the spout. And I remember it was like a 30 pack of natty ice. It was a bottle of tequila, bottle of rum, clear rum, bla bottle of vodka, bottle of ever clear. ⁓ Yeah, it was nothing but booze, man. And but it was like also the country time pink lemonade. Yeah. And Kool-Aid. And it just got people ripped. At it for the Fourth of July party. And my other buddy said, like, dude, you gotta make that stuff for like my my brother's graduation party. So I brought that same container and they set up the the tables and the tents and everything. Shamus: enough for coloring. Herbie: And it it really it's another one of those jungle juices that it does not taste like anything until you drink a couple of them, then you start seeing Jesus after a little while. So what we did was I got there early because I was helping them set up and ⁓ I put the beer in and I put it all together and then had the ice and I put it next to the main table. But what happened was that like some of the little kids started coming in and it wasn't it wasn't unfortunately it wasn't labeled, but I had it like to the side. And the kids started drinking that because it looked like fruit punch, like little kids. And people were like, Well, what's ⁓ what's that? I'm like, dude, don't give that to the kids. That's nothing but booze. And ⁓ ca a couple of little kids got a little frothy on it. Shamus: But ⁓ That's I said the one time we had jungle juice. ⁓ some of the guys military guys are you know because it was in a trash can and guys are just reaching in grabbing the fruit and you know, the oranges and shit and just sucking them and throw them into the fucking the trees or the woods. The next day we go out there and like squirrels like up in the tree and they're like drink like they're eating a fruit that out there and they're like, ⁓ fuck, they're running from branch to brand, they're just dropping out of trees like you can see them all like I was like, ⁓ man, we just got the wildlife geeked up. Herbie: Yeah. Yeah man. You'd be surprised too because a lot of those those drinks, man, you just don't don't know what the hell they are, man. It's just how ⁓ what like like you said, as soon as you sit up or stand up or walk around, then next thing you know, that whole fucking thing, you know, the whole universe just warps around you. Shamus: Yeah, it's ⁓ it was weird, like what ⁓ 'cause when we did the ⁓ Soju stuff, like at that time my tolerance, man, I could've drank gasoline and and been fine. ⁓ and it was just when you think you're, you know, like, Yeah, I can drink da da da like something comes up or somebody brings something in and you're like, Yeah, let me try that and Herbie: Yeah. Opener. Like yeah, you gotta yeah. ⁓ Yeah. I mean I drink a couple of them. No wonder I'll be doing like flip kicks and all that stuff too after a little while, man. Shamus: That was an eye open. That's a coming of age drink right there. You're just like, whoa. That's those where when you I mean you have a great time on it, but when you sit down, there comes a point where you're you're thinking as clearly as I'm speaking, but your body just doesn't respond the way you want it to. You're just kinda like, Holy shit, man. Like, all right, reach over and grab them cigarettes real quick and you're just kinda like and you miss the cigarettes and you grab the light. You're like, dude, you're supposed to grab the c like you're thinking as you're going and you're just like, Wow, you are really tore up, bro. Herbie: Like, why can't you grab your cigarettes? 'Cause we're in the spirit world asshole. Shamus: You're just like all right, man. I'm gonna say this right now. And then five seconds later, just like hey man. And the guy was just like Dude, we already talked about that. Like that's a weird drunk, man, when you're like you're thinking clearly, but your body's just like, Yeah, dude, you're tore up. Herbie: ⁓ yeah. Yeah. Same same thing with sake too, 'cause like I like to heat it up. And like you know, it like Shamus: Yeah, I've never had a hot well I mean warm like room temperature, but I've never had it. Herbie: ⁓ I got the whole little bachelor little cooker thing and everything, man. I got all that stuff. Shamus: Well, you were always you were always that guy that, you know, I'm gonna try the culture and stuff like that. Me, I was just kinda like well first I just didn't drink like the jungle juice thing. Yeah. Like I had to watch like we had somebody stand by to make sure nobody was dropping shit in there. Yeah. 'Cause I'm very conscious about what what I'm drinking. Like I mean, food wise, I eat a bunch of bullshit. But when it comes to drinking, I mean I drink a lot of shitty boo like in the early years, you're just you're young, you wanna get drunk and you just buy shitty alcohol. Herbie: Community type thing, yeah definitely. Shamus: Yeah. it took me years to figure out that good tequila doesn't have a worm in it. Yeah. So ⁓ so like most of the time, I I I was just kind of like, hey man, if it's whiskey, give if it's Jack Daniels, give it to me. If it's ⁓ I never really the first time we started doing mixed drinks or anything kind of my buddy, Mike, guy who passed away, ⁓ loved you what no, what the hell is it called? What's that apricot whiskey shit? Herbie: ⁓ with like the Jack Quins and stuff like that. Shamus: ⁓ it's ⁓ Southern Comfort. Herbie: ⁓ okay. Do they have an apricot whiskey? Shamus: It's apricot whiskey. That shit is horrible. Like to me, I'm like, ⁓ my God, he loved it. So s one of the parties we're at at his house, some girl was just like, mix it with lime juice. And I'm like, What? And she was like, Mix it with they call it snake bites. So we're like, and we didn't have the internet back then, so we were like, well shit. She was like a bartender somewhere, or her sister was a bartender. So the next time we bought lime juice and we got to shake her with the ice and and like and bro. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: Put a totally different spin on it. We were drinking southern conference and lime juice, snake bites all throughout high school. Yeah. and getting wasted. ⁓ a beer guy. in the military, it was that was another thing. It was just kind of like, hey man, just whiskey or beer. Like I never really got into the culture thing until I started getting little bit older. I mean, there was points where I was drinking the grog. Do you know what the grog is? Herbie: Yeah. Is is that St. Ides? Shamus: And if anybody I've served with who used to hang out at the outpost or up on Kelly Hill, they know what the grog is. Usually we would save it for the lowest ranking private, like when they first get to our unit and stuff like that, we take them to the outpost, which was this shitty bar right on the edge of post. And there was like a trailer park behind it. I mean, there was chickens running around on the floor. There was a piss trough at the bar. ⁓ that movie Tank in 1983. I forget the actor's name. Where he's driving the tank around. Like he drives through that parking lot. Yeah. ⁓ what the grog is, is like all the runoff when they're pouring beers goes into this trap at the end of the night. ⁓ yeah. And there was times like people were like, All right, private, grab that grog and let's get it going. And but there was times like if I liked the kid because but I mean we didn't we are cops, so like we are 18 years old. If this kid was eighteen years old, he was with us and that was it. Like they never carted him. Herbie: ⁓ right. Yeah. Shamus: But I would just like I'd be all drunked up. And that kid would grab it, like the bucket, he'd go to hold it up and I'd like run over real quick and grab it, like just like take it like that. I'm just like, you're a fucking made. Herbie: That's like that's almost like the freaking thing where bartenders if they hate you they'll they'll give you that thing at the end of the day. Shamus: I mean 'cause then they wipe down, they wring their the like all the spilled beer they ring out and then shit. Yeah, man. I used to Herbie: 'Cause we me and my buddies we used to drink ⁓ like at the Morest like in Maple Shade in Morestown and you know the grog was St Ides and I was ⁓ god I I don't like your grog. Shamus: I would t I would try any like goddamn. I would just do it to get a laugh out of I mean most of the time when I first got there, they were like, You got a drink from the grog. I'm like, what the hell is that? And then shut down and just kinda like Man, that ain't shit. You know, you play it off. But then I would just get drunk and I I'm I'm usually you've seen me, I'm usually happy drunk and love to laugh and shit and get a reaction out of people. So most of the time I would just run over and grab it. Like, Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: And like ⁓ spout some kind of movie line like, you know, ⁓ Jesse the Body and the Predator. I'm like, this shit will make you a sexual tyrannosaurus wretch just like me, motherfuckers. Woo. There it is. Man Herbie: Like churn your freaking stomach, man. See I get a little like classy with mine. I made I made this one I used to call it shmoo shmook. I would just like make up different freaking different books. Shamus: What is that? Because I remember you you've referenced that over the years. Herbie: Shmoo shmoo was like I had like you know they ever see like those beer towers like dads used to have them and stuff like that. So I there's a couple of them you could buy like on Amazon and eBay, like a little bit smaller. So I'd bring ⁓ instead of using that for beer, I would actually use it for like mixed drinks and shots. And ⁓ my friend Sandy, where I went to her house and made this, it was during the summertime for her daughter's graduation, basically made like ⁓ these two alcohol beverages and I had them in in those two tubes. Shamus: Yeah, they're still around. Herbie: And I call we you were like, what the hell are you gonna call it? I like, I I call it shmoooshmoo. So it was just like forever, because I guess after a while you drank enough of it at the end of the you're like, shmoo shmoo. You know, you just But it really tastes like ⁓ snow cones, like the red snow cone and the blue snow cone. ⁓ yeah, it was during the summertime, so I had like this little like ⁓ snow cone cups and with the extra ice. It was almost basically like you're having snow cones where you're just getting frickin' frothy on shmooshmoo. Yeah. So whenever like that, we took pictures of that. And whenever, you know, Facebook memories come up, you my friend Sandy always comes like, ⁓ my God, look at shmoo shmoo. So if there's other like ⁓ drinks that I like to make, is I used to make like a fishbowl drink. I used to make a whole bunch of crazy, crazy stuff and just like trying them all. Shamus: That's me, I would just try anything. I didn't give a shit. Like that night at your house. Like it's hey, we got rum. Do we got anything in mixing? We got soda. And they're like, no. I'm like, well you got apple juice you got apple juice? And everybody was like, please don't do that. And I was just like, fuck. Next thing I know, it was like two hours later, I'm across the street in the church parking lot, yakking all over the street. Herbie: Yeah. And that was like you know, the apple juice that was in the big glass cider jar thing, you know. ⁓ my god, yeah. Shamus: Hell yeah. But like I said, I didn't give a shit. I at that point I was just and not that I was, you know, ⁓ I just gotta get drunk. I was just kinda like, Hey man, I'll try anything. Just whatever. Herbie: think we went to a party before that. Like I think we were hanging out drinking and stuff anyway and I forget why we stopped over at my house. But that that that tree across my house still remembers you though. ⁓ Shamus: Yeah, I forget. But years later I had Mike Mike was just like you. Mike would try anything and he fell in love with this apple corn shit. And like he bought it to my house when I lived in Delanco. And I d I was like, this tastes just kinda like because I you always remember it coming to back up the taste. And ⁓ I was like, Man, this tastes just like that shit I had I made at Herbie's house and people are like, What'd you make? And I was like, Apple juice and rum they're Are you even targeted? ⁓ Herbie: ⁓ yeah. Yeah, stuff's definitely gonna look. Shamus: Like, what you want the f like taking the off rant to diabetes? Like what the hell you t Herbie: Diabetes. Shamus: Well yeah, the apple corn stuff that Mike was drinking tasted the same way. Herbie: I remember ⁓ what was it? ⁓ Jaquin's Blackberry Brandy. They used to be like, you know, the the years before it was you turn twenty one and you get to sneak that bottle. Yeah. Especially during the wintertime and stuff. ⁓ it was delicious. Shamus: Well, I mean we did all that and like I said in one of the episodes we've already put out, like we talked about, you know, in high school, we were ⁓ yeah. It was just we didn't spare time. We tried everything, man. Wild Irish Rose, ⁓ White Lightning, ⁓ like you said, that shit. Like anything behind the counter that was like at the time was like two fifty in your pocket. We were just and we'd watch like all the fucking like Riversides load it with a bunch of people that are just down and I don't want to say losers or whatever, but Herbie: Okay. Shamus: ⁓ 'cause at the time there was liquor stores and bars everywhere. Yeah. So like we would see like a semi homeless guy come in and we're like, hey, let's try that shit. Cause he spent whatever his last two dollars on that. So I mean, must be pretty good. So let's try that. ⁓ yeah. So we tried everything, dude. Like it was Herbie: Yeah. Remember trying to kill a rose? It's almost like that strawberry melt kind of stuff. That's pretty good. That wasn't bad. Shamus: Yeah, I try to stay away from the shit that was Dairy based. That kind of stuff. But like, yeah, most of the time I was just like we would s we'd take a slick of that. I was just like, Yeah. I'm gonna pay this guy two fifty. Take this shit back. Jesus Christ. And then Mike's like, ⁓ okay, man, that's the only thing we got. I'm like, all right. Herbie: Give him five bucks to take it back. I can't like ⁓ the the one party I went to was like Christmas or something like that. We were I remember we're doing like the peppermint peppermint schnapps. I was like, I can't do it. But I did ⁓ I I'm not really a big fan of anything that tastes like ⁓ black coffee beans, like the licorice type stuff or peppermint to drink. I mean I'll eat a peppermint candy every once in a while, but I'm not gonna go out and buy it. So if it's ⁓ like in grandma's dish and that's the only one that's loose and it's not like melded into one big large piece of candy, I'll have a peppermint. But freaking ⁓ There was a a time we went out, it was like around Christmas time. And my one buddy was like, let's tr let's do these flaming shots of Sambuka. And I was like, All right, cool. ⁓ yeah. We're well by that time was already tuned. I was already tuned up. ⁓ I think it was at ⁓ Copperfields. I don't even know if that's even open anymore. But ⁓ was it was during the winter time, so it had like a little beard going on. It had a sweater. And we're all tuned up and everyone is drinking the the this flaming shot of Sambuka like all different ways. Like my one buddy was actually putting a straw in there while it's on fire and trying to drink out of it. And of course it's melting the straw. The other guy like blew it out and everything and ⁓ he drank it. And then I decided to try to outdo everybody and drink the goddamn flaming shot while it's on fire and hit it. Shamus: Yeah, a lot of people don't realize you have to blow it out, then take the shot. 'Cause we had a kid do that in high school too, set his face on fire and half the But it wasn't Sam Puka, I think he did Everclear. So we used to do that in the military. Herbie: As yep, as did I. ⁓ really? Jesus Christ. Two. ⁓ really? Yeah, I like why then why why did you even bother flame put you know putting it on fire then and then you can just gonna Shamus: Yeah, we did it once or twice and we even did that that shit from that movie The Crow. You take a a nine millimeter bullet, drop it in, light it, and and then do the shot and the bullet all once. Warfighter. Herbie: Jesus. Yeah, I I got damn yeah. So I burned the I burned my face. Like it of course like the fires in my nose. So I I took the shot down, but like a lot of it trickled down the one side of my face. So it just like poured down and burned all the hair Shamus: That's the same thing that happened to my buddy. ⁓ really? Herbie: Yeah. And I was like, and like it went into the sweater and I was like trying to put the sweater out and everything. And then I just like sat back in the chair like I just cause I was like it was just like huge, like a big like ball of flame. I was Holy shit. And I was like, stop dropping the roll. But then ⁓ when I sat back down, like this big puff of smoke came out of my mouth. I look like ⁓ Godzilla's kid, Godzuki. And he's like, Whank whack And just like that big puff of smoke, the big round circle smoke comes out, like Yeah. And then for like a couple of days after that, my like I had this one side of this burn mark on my face. So ⁓ what I did was I got a bunch of silvedine cream because I didn't want like, you know, a mark. And I just had tons of it on my face. And it just basically looked like I was perpetually like ⁓ drooling. And I was at work. I was like, that's when I mean back in the day when I worked at the Cherry Hill Mall. That was doing retail. So it was this this big white toothpaste looking gob on running down the side of my mouth into my neck. I never did that shot ever again. Shamus: One of the coolest things I've ever seen was we were out is we were in the military and a buddy of mine, ⁓ he owns his own fitness thing down in Texas. ⁓ his first name's Rob. might when we go to video, I might have him do like a Zoom kind of deal. We'll talk to him. He's a great dude, man. ⁓ he retired from the military, did the drill sergeant thing, dah dah dah. He's a great dude, great leader, great father. ⁓ and he owns his own fitness company. ⁓ really? Yeah. Amazing dude. But back ⁓ we were stationed together Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: We went out one night and got a couple beers and we were at this place called Scooters, which is kind of like an aunt's or, you know, dad's or something like that. They had the outdoor deck, all that stuff. And we were sitting right on the railing and the deck was actually like two stories in the air. ⁓ because it was like on the side of the hill. So on the side where the deck was was a parking lot and people would park underneath the deck and stuff. Well, anyway, we were just eating like regular dinner and having a beer, and I forget what The it might have been his birthday or something. I forget what the celebration was for, but like we all got dessert and this meathead gets a piece of cheesecake. So there's like fifteen of us there. So we get done eating the dessert and somebody's like, We should do a shot for his birthday or somebody's birthday. I forget what it was. And somebody's like, Let's do one fifty one. I was like, ⁓ my god, these fucking guys. I was like, All right, let's do one fifty one. And for those of you don't know, that's A small half step underneath Everclear. Yeah. Like that stuff is new. Like you run your car. and we all did the shot, but that his hit that cheesecake in a stomach. ⁓ And everything he ate instantly came right back up to you. Like he leans over the railing and I was he was like, And I was just kind of like somebody was like, Jesus Christ, we just got here. Like we've had one beer, da da da. And my one buddy Herbie: Yeah, I was gonna it's gasoline. Shamus: It was the smartest out of all of us was just like, Yeah, what asshole takes a one fifty one shot after he fucking eats a piece of cheesecake, dude. He was like, You might do because there's a shot called a cement mixer. He was just like, dude, it's he made his own cement mixer. So he's throwing up on cars and all that shit, like underneath. So the waitress sees it. She walks over to the owner. The owner comes out with the bouncer and he was like, You guys gotta go. And we're like, Dude, it's seven thirty, like we just got here. Like we always spent we always went there. Herbie: Yes, I was getting ready to say that. Yeah. Shamus: Like, dude, we're never a problem. Like, da da da he was Well, this guy's drunk, he's throwing up all over the place. ⁓ my buddy was just like, Hey, this is what happened, da da nah. So the waitress went and got the order, and she was like, Yeah, he's an idiot. Yeah. Like they've had one beer, yeah, and a 151 with a cheesecake, and we're just like, All right, you guys could that was one of the coolest things I've ever seen, man. I was just like, Wow, that was fast. Cause I mean, as soon as they hit him, he was like, it got him, he's like, I was like Herbie: Yeah. Yeah, no wonder why. Jesus, yeah. It's like that's pretty much like a goddamn science project for a kid when he does a volcano, just pour that volcano. Shamus: Yeah, when I eat the when they eat the ⁓ what the hell, the mentos and then they suck down the soda. Shout out to my buddy Rob. I think I have pictures of that somewhere. ⁓ Herbie: It's just like Well d what was like ⁓ some of like ⁓ a dr a drink that just made you lurch like s like crazy like projectile vomiting? Shamus: I'll tell you what, man, there was a lot of stuff. you know, like the Everclear like I was actually pretty good with that, like ever like the heavier stuff, but like, man, anything one thing, the trip at your house with the apple juice and stuff, it it kind of set me in a motion where I started to realize I can't drink shit with a lot of sugar in it. Like I can drink I can do a shot of vodka. Yeah. But I can have vodka and God bless the alcohol injuries theory because Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: There is 9,000 different flavors of vodka. You got like birthday cake, cherry, da da da. They have ⁓ champagne flavored vodka, where it's vodka, it tastes like champagne. Just mix that with orange juice and you have a mossa. It's amazing. And you don't get the champagne because champagne hangovers are but ⁓ I started to realize I can't do a lot of sugar and stuff like that. ⁓ but to answer your question, the one shot that and it's not even all that bad that gets me every time is fucking Jaegermeister, man. Herbie: Yeah. ⁓ yeah. Shamus: Because I hate black licorice. I hate the way it doesn't matter if it's cook people like, ⁓ you gotta drink it, ⁓ it's cold. No, I don't have to drink that shit, man, because it fucking makes me want to gag. Like I'll do a shot of, you know, one fifty one or everclear if you want to do that, but I'm not doing Jaegermeister or what was the other one? Rumpel was it or was that cinnamon? ⁓ Goldschlager. ⁓ my god, I don't even know if they make this shit anymore. Herbie: Yeah. Rumblement. Yeah, w well rumpements I know they still Shamus: was kinda like black licorice. Yeah, ⁓ black house, that's what it was. Anything that tastes like black licorice, I can't deal with dude. Herbie: Sambuka. Yeah, I ain't messing with no more Sambuka. But for some odd reason though, like ⁓ Byron got me into drinking Jaegermeister with him. So we'd do like a couple of shots and never bother And I even have a Jaegermeister cooler that we still gotta break into because that thing is dope. Shamus: Was that that crew or was there somebody else I knew that had like the ⁓ you know how like the Jaegermeister bar thing had like the three upside down bottles and it was chilled and you would just like the bartender would give you asked for a shot of it? Somebody had one of those at their house and I'm still like, nope. Herbie: Yeah. I don't think like it worked like a little bit 'cause it was something that ⁓ it was a one that was kinda broken a little bit and we thought we could fix it. Shamus: Somebody had one at their house that worked. 'Cause somebody loved it and I was just like, no, man. Nope. Nope. Nope. I'll drink a bottle of Mounty Albino tequila, which is like street level grade gasoline, like with like a worm in it that shouldn't be in that bottle. It's not the it's not the right worm. Don Julio's pretty good though, man. ⁓ I love tequila. It's gotta be ⁓ Herbie: Not moi. ⁓ We still got the one that Tommy got as many Shamus: Don Julio's pretty good. Cabo Wabo's always been one of my favorites. Patron's pretty good. Yeah. It's gotta be a higher end. Like when I was a kid, I used to be able to drink anything. I tequila related, but now it's but tequila, I yeah, there's there's naked pictures of me all over like you know, there's pit there's naked pictures of me somewhere in Europe. ⁓ in I know at least in Florida. I mean like I drink tequila, dude. It's it's bad. Yeah, because and I'll tell you what, yeah, I become the predator because when it comes to women, there's no sight dude. It's just all body heat. I'm just like, ⁓ my god And my friend's like, Are you serious? And I'm like, ⁓ yeah Herbie: Good job. Shamus: ⁓ no doubt. It's on. So I try to steer clear of too much scale and now I get in trouble. Herbie: No, I understand. I remember what was it? I went to Alcapulco and we did a a tequila tour and I just brought so many goddamn flavors of tequila back. And this was like I think I gave like a bottle to Bobby, Tommy, this I gave one to Ryan. I think you're unfortunately you were still in the military. But I brought back a couple of bottles of this orange tequila. And it tastes like orange Tic Tacs. It was delicious. Yeah, it was just good, man. I I I forget it because I had like at the time I had a girlfriend and I would sh and she didn't drink. So you can only declare so much booze. So that's when I was like, All right, I'm gonna buy all these extra bottles. So I just need you to declare it. She's acting like I'm you know, we're we're smuggling back like a brick of heroin back over to the States. I'm like, It's just booze. It's just booze. Relax. Shamus: Yeah, buddy of mine, ⁓ Marcuse, he's from Mexico originally. ⁓ guy I was stationed with in the military. He was older than us. ⁓ he was actually retired when I first got down there, but a lifelong friend. We still talked to I haven't talked to him in a minute. I gotta actually call him. he gave me a bottle of I think it's called El Repesado or something like that. ⁓ from Mexico. Yeah. Like from where he's from. ⁓ I think it was somewhere. It was one of these liquor stores around here just recently. I saw it in the cabinet. And they wanna it's nothing like what Brett has, but they wanted like eight hundred dollars for that shit. And I was like He gave it to me almost twenty years ago. So I mean mine's probably a little bit more expensive, but I I don't want to open it. But man, he used to bring some of that and it's good stuff because the stuff that he had opened in his house, man. Herbie: Mm. Yeah. thinking like when they bring stuff over like that from other countries into the States, I think like some I think like the ⁓ like say for example if the United States bought that and and had it here, they would ⁓ I think there's almost like a version where they gotta they kinda make it a little weaker. I think some people are talking about that. Shamus: Like I said, he's from a small village outside of like Juarez or some shit. So I don't know if he snuck it back in or whatever. Because he still has family there, so he goes back and forth. Yeah. ⁓ that's how we ended up going down through Baja and a couple all that stuff like that. But ⁓ yeah, man, tequila used to I don't I can't remember the last time I had a tequila shot because of that. I'm waking up next to some women, boy. I was like, Or just like like I woke up on a beat somewhere. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: With like no clothes on. I'm just like, what the f like Herbie: Butt naked with half eaten peanut butter and jelly sandwiches all over you. Shamus: I just by myself, man, with a pair of sunglasses on my head, I'm like what Herbie: What the ⁓ Shamus: And now you have no idea where you came from because the tide came in and woke you up and like just washed away all your footprints. So you're like, holy smokes man. That gotta had military training. You just like shoot a Nazimuth. Okay, there's this, that, that okay. That's the sun, there's the east, let's go. It's starting walking with your hands on your junk, and you're just like, fucking kill it, man. Herbie: Yeah. bought like a a bottle of absinthe, but I actually would like to try absinthe like the European stuff, like you know, the Green Fairy thing. Shamus: I've heard I've heard tales. I've never had it, man, but I've heard rumors. Herbie: ⁓ there's like in that ⁓ that movie Euro Trip, you know, the the guys ⁓ drank it and like the wind up the the brother and sister ⁓ started making out on that shit, man. I was like, Jesus Christ. You know that's some really strong booze when you when kin start making out, man. I was like, Jesus Christ. Shamus: ⁓ no doubt. Yeah, man. ⁓ a bunch of bunch of guys I served with were stationed in Germany and shit and they were just like, ⁓ yeah And I was like, Man, really? And really, yeah Herbie: Yeah, I didn't yeah, I didn't tell you truth. I didn't even think about that when I was over there too, man. I was there a couple times. Shamus: That's where it's at mostly. Germany and all that shit. It's all over Europe. But like the real stuff is Herbie: Yeah. 'Cause I know there's still like some other ones like ⁓ the original original recipe there's certain plants and stuff that like herbs and plants that they use to to make the absinthe. Damn. Shamus: Like real soju has formaldehyde in it. ⁓ like the shit you're buying the states isn't the shit you're getting from Yeah. Like what Robbie had from Japan and Korea and stuff. So that's what gets you all yeah. Screwed up or whatever. So I know Absence has got some sit in it too. Herbie: Geez, really? Yeah, 'cause I know ⁓ yeah. But I think like Sochu and Soju and stuff like that are also a lot of them are also ⁓ brewed from like barley and oats and potato. It's almost like a like a vodka really. I mean the cool thing about some of those drinks is like they come in plastic bottles so they don't make a lot of noise when you throw ⁓ in the recycling, which is awesome. Shamus: When I was younger, that's somebody's shit. I was especially in the military. Another thing we would do was ⁓ because back in those days we were only getting like three hundred dollars every two weeks. I mean, they were paying for your housing and shit, but I mean you couldn't live off of that. Yeah. So we would get like a bottle of ⁓ Robotussin with codeine. Yeah, dude. Say this. And right outside the club, like two or three of us would split that bitch. Just we were never sick. Herbie: Yeah. Jesus. Yeah. ⁓ Shamus: We would split that man and go in a club and after like a a beer or two and a shot, we were sailing, bro. It was Herbie: I well I guess everyone else does actually Our thing was always like, you know, when we're hanging out with like Gary and Tommy and all them, even if you had a cold they're like, ⁓ just do some drink some beer, do some shots and like sure enough, yeah, those snipples went away. Shamus: ⁓ you cheap date. ⁓ we had guys they were going like when we were overseas when we were deployed in the middle like in the Middle East there is no I mean you at the time like a somebody said like a twelve pack of Budweiser 'cause we knew like a lot of the well like the like the officials and shit like that, like all the political people over there. And they were like, You can get a a twelve pack of butt like three hundred bucks on the black market over here. Like, fuck that. Yeah. So I'm I couldn't stand butt anyway. Not to mention it's a hundred and forty fucking degrees here. So when you drink this, you're gonna shrivel up like a raisin. Guys 'cause like some of us were attached to the mailroom. Yeah. And like customs and shit. So they had to I was never a part of that. That was for the guys who were like hurt or something like that. ⁓ but they were saying like they had people like Herbie: Like three hundred. Shamus: taking like their spouses whatever taking vodka and pouring it into a scope bottle. Like with a like they would empty it out with a needle and then inject the vodka and then put food coloring in there and stuff like that. Because guys were going through withdrawal. They were doing all kinds of I couldn't wait. Like there was times I was like man thank god that page went off man. I'm like, where are we going? And when they finally told us, I'm like, ⁓ dude, we're going there. Yeah. You're gonna sweat all this shit out for the next six to eight months or whatever. This is great. It was like rehab. Jesus Herbie: Yeah, that looks it's like the same way people starting to like you smuggle like booze on the cruise ships and stuff, man. They're doing all the same thing with the the ⁓ you know, the mouthwash and all that. Shamus: You go over there and you fell a million bucks. Yeah. I guys were 'cause they couldn't get that, like they were just getting mouthwash and slugging it. ⁓ that's when hand sanitizer really started to take off. And guys were drinking fucking hand sanitizer. I'm like, God damn that's when I knew I was just like, All right, you're a social drinker, dude. Like I'm I don't have to do any of that. Yeah. Like I'm good. I don't have a problem. Herbie: At the hospital we we have that stuff too. Like you gotta be careful the hand sanitizer 'cause like, you the behavioral health and stuff like that, they you know, they'll they'll they'll drink it for the alcohol. Shamus: Motherfuckers are making hooch and all kinds of shit there. God damn. Yeah, it was bad, dude. I was like, Yeah, I'm good. I don't have a problem. Herbie: But yeah, I could get I'll get over it real quick, man. Shamus: But yeah, man, but when we were back in the States, it was we trained during the day and stuff like that. And I it got to the point where like sometimes we go out on a Thursday night 'cause it was ladies' night or da da da and like we would come in the next day and they're like, hey, we don't have anything to do today, so we're gonna go down to the connex. What a connex is it's like a building that holds all your shit. So if you do get the call, because we are a combat ready unit, ⁓ combat brigade team or brigade combat team, and they would say, Okay, we gotta go, and they would just go down there with a truck. Herbie: ⁓ yeah. Shamus: And a crane, they would throw it's like them fucking tractor chair things you the connects. Yeah. And they would throw it on top and they would take it to the railhead or the to the ocean and put it on the boat and send it over. Wherever we needed to be. ⁓ they were like, just go down there and inventory all the shit in the connexes and stuff like that. So we'd go down there and and just hung over. Just I mean, we we just ran five miles. We went back to the barracks, got a shower, come back, we're like, ⁓ my god. And if the medics were down there, we would just go, dude. What's it gonna take to get like ten IV bags? Herbie: Banana bags, yeah. ⁓ Shamus: We're like, bro, here's a get out of jail free card. We're hooked into every cop on this fucking post, man. So you ever, here's my number, give us a call. And we would go to like when we got the pulley, they would go with us. So we and they would party with us and shit like that. They're like, yo, you guys got to slow the fuck down. But we would give each other IVs and just lay into codex, dude. And by three o'clock, we're like, where are we going tonight? We were just I it was never ending, dude. It was just one big party unless we got the pulley. It was great. Herbie: That's always like that, man, because like when you're when you're hungover and stuff like you're you are not in no way or any type of energy or position to want to go back out and park. Yeah, but once you start feeling better, there you go. Shamus: We'd leave the par of the club like three th and this is no bullshit. If any of my military buddies are listening, hit me off on a post or yeah, post something on the P Rec Facebook to back this up. We would get back to Kelly Hill because the post would close. ⁓ There be no traffic after a certain amount of time, I think at five o'clock, because ⁓ everybody run on Fort Benning. You know, they would use those roads for PT and shit. ⁓ so we would get back at like four thirty. I mean, literally just put a beer down, drove back to post. We would get dressed either in the barracks or in our cars because we had and literally walked right to formation. I mean, still fucked up to and they were like, all right, we're gonna run five miles and we're like, ⁓ And then that Georgia Heat, yeah, by the time you came back, you were already like all that shit sweated out, but now you're in the hangover stage and we would ⁓ my God, we must have we went through some banana bags, man. We Herbie: Okay. Shamus: And then like I said, by two o'clock, we're like, where we go tonight? Woo! Like it was just out of control. We drank. A buddy of mine said, I don't want to, you know, tell old war stories and stuff like that, but a buddy of mine, he was a mechanic. His yeah, his name's Turp. He was just like, dude, I went to Korea right out of basic training. He was like, that was a party. He's like, but the mechanics hung out with mechanics and everybody. Yeah. He's then I went to Fort Carson, Colorado with the fourth infantry division. He was like a mechanics drank with mechanics and you infantry drank with infantry and stuff. He's like, when I got to third infantry division, he was just like, I've never seen no shit like that before. He was just like, Because I was like, Hey, where are we drinking at? And the mechanics were like, ⁓ we're going to an MP party. And we're What? And we're Yeah. He was like, These dudes, he was like, You guys were the first people that took your party and made it public. Like every we've had captains there, we had lieutenant colonels, like everybody was at parties that we threw. It was ridiculous. And Herbie: Let's go. Shamus: It's like I said, because our theory was like if we all go to war together, there's no need to like just separate. Like, yo, let's be a family. Let's do and man, those were some of the greatest, greatest nights. Yeah, looking back, man, I ⁓ I was kinda Not reckless. It was all I didn't do it just to get drunk, it was just to have a good time but Herbie: though man especially when you're with other people it's just gonna encourage you to do more stuff man you know everyone's gonna you know everyone has stories like that so if you guys are listening if you guys like to have a funny like story like that just you know let us know man we want to hear about it Shamus: ⁓ what's your drink now that we're older? What's your drinking choice now? Herbie: I drank beer, of course, and I drink rum and cokes. I'll go sailing with the captain. Or of course I still drink my sake. But I got all like the cute little warmers and all this other stuff to go with it. And ⁓ you know, of course I I drink a l you import beers. The domestics I mess with. I'm not a big ⁓ what is it? I'll do like the micro brews or anything like that, but I am not an IPA guy. I'm not one of the Shamus: I don't I'm so I'm so glad that's starting to die. Well, not in Medford. On Main Street there's like five micro breweries, but I'm not a big micro brewery guy. Yeah. Like when I walk in I usually ask for the one that tastes like, you know, Blue Moon, like the citrus one. Because they have like all that like the IPA shit I can't ⁓ it just it I don't know if I'm allergic to that or whatever it is. It just gives me a funny feeling. But like a lot of the stuff I'm just kinda like, it just tastes like nickels or this one tastes like burnt coffee. Like I I don't need that shit. Herbie: Yeah, I can't. Shamus: So let me just get whatever light beer you got or something and then they get mad it's almost like the coffee people. They get mad like, ⁓ if you want something like that, why don't you go to a liquor store? Yeah. All right, fuck face, I'll go to the liquor store later. So Herbie: ⁓ I'll play twelve bucks for like a six ounce thing of something that tastes like rhubarb and pickle juice. Shamus: like the or I'll give if they have like a sampler thing with like the little shotgun, I'll do those and then when I'm like all right, I'll Herbie: Fuck it. Yeah. I mean I'll I'll do the micro brews. Like if if I do micro brews, it's either gonna be like almost like a Heffenweisen or anything that's like ⁓ like a dark beer. I'll do some of the coffee ones. ⁓ anything that's almost like you know, the Sam Adams cherry wheat that's like that, I'll do that. Like German beers and shit like that. Cherry wheat. ⁓ Sam Adams Cherry Wheat was actually just a Christmas beer. So I had to wait once a year for that thing, man. Shamus: Well that's what that's the only dark shit I'll drink is, you know, Guinness cherry weed like half and half. Yeah. And it's usually a bob's But other than that, that heavy shit I can't deal with. Me, I d like I don't even drink all that much anymore. I probably should get back to it. You can't feel a lot of shit when you're numb, so maybe that's what the problem is. ⁓ I don't drink too much beer anymore, but when I do, like in the summertime it's either Corona Bud Light Lime. Herbie: ⁓ yeah, those are good. Reason. Yeah, well sorry. Shamus: ⁓ you know, when September rolls around it's football, it's usually just like Miller Light. ⁓ Christmas time it's always Guinness and Cherry Wheat. Yeah. And then it goes back like Miller Light until and then I'll have a blue moon every once in a while. But other than that, I really don't ⁓ I love the whole old fashions kick going on right now. Yeah. ⁓ there's certain bars that smoke it when they put that fucking thing in there where like when they open it up it tastes like cedar kind of Herbie: Yeah. Got that one little chip in there. Yeah. Yeah, that's classy, man. I like that stuff. Shamus: Yeah. And then ⁓ in the summertime I also drink watermelon juice and vodka. Yeah. What you do is you take a little bit of w I think Minute Made makes it. We do it at our military union every year to kick off the year. ⁓ to kick off the summer. ⁓ take mil I think it's Minute Made. Minute made watermelon juice. You take ⁓ just straight or we used to get the cucumber flavored vodka. And then we but then you freeze up some ⁓ strawberries and blueberries and use them as ice cubes and throw it in there and mix it up. Dude. Herbie: ⁓ yeah. Yeah. ⁓ that's good. Shamus: It's nice. Nice and refreshing. Herbie: Made a shot glass out of like melted jolly ranchers. That was cool. Shamus: It didn't dissolve when you used it. Herbie: Yeah, I mean after a little while it did, but it it was pretty damn sturdy because like the to the amount of like Jolly Ranchers you need, it was it was like one of those ⁓ silicone ⁓ molds for like yeah, for like you know, they do a lot of times they'll make them for like, you know, to to make ice shot glasses and stuff. But ⁓ I made it and I ⁓ just stuffed Jolly Ranchers in there and just made like w couple of you know, Jolly Rancher shot glasses. Bad's cool. It's ⁓ it's like a little process but I I th I think they still have pictures of. I used to make ⁓ but like when I went over to my buddy Tyler's house, I would make And just make like shot glasses for everybody. Shamus: The jello shot too. I forgot to mention the jello shot. ⁓ yeah. Over the over the years, man. I've just people you'll be talking to somebody and they're just like, hey man, jello shot. And like you're still talking. You're yeah, sure, just get away from me. And grab them. And it there's always that one person. Cause I always stick my pinky in there and kind of if it's stuck in there and somebody's like, No, you gotta do it like this. And you take their tongue or some chick puts it in her mouth, and they do some seductive shit where they're just like and they pull it out, you're just like, Herbie: Well yeah, I'm I'm glad Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I used to be able to take the the cherry But ⁓ actually other back in the day I used to be able to tie a knot with cherry stems. He used to cherry I used to do that. Yeah. That's cool. Yeah, that was yeah, it was a that was a thing, man. I got yeah, I got he's gonna come out with a knot and I'd be like, Yep. I may be short and ugly, but I got some skills, man. Shamus: Yeah, somebody's always got to give you a class on that shit. Lot of lot of I was gonna say you might be the only dude I've ever known that's ⁓ I I've seen a lot of strippers and girls over my years like hey and I'm just Herbie: Well you back in the day that's pretty much all we all ⁓ you know I hung out with. Actually we learned all like the chocolate cake shot. Learned that from a stripper. I was never chocolate cake shot, I wanna say I think it's frangelico. It's like a hazelnut liqueur. Shamus: What is a chocolate cake shot? Yeah, like I said, like all those shit that tastes like food has got way too much sugar in it. Herbie: But it's also like it's like frangelico with sugar and ⁓ lemon. I forget there's something else. So it's basically you have the sugar and the lemon and you basically put that sugar and lemon in your mouth, you and then you chase it with the frangelico shot. And when it mixes, it tastes like ⁓ chocolate frosting. Shamus: Who was the ⁓ was that just the kilo shots where they dip the top in salt and you look the salt, you take the lot you looked the thing and take the shot? Herbie: ⁓ yeah. But you know, after us you you know, especially that one day when Shamus: No, you lick your hand. That's what it is. You lick your hand, put a little bit of salt, and you take the like caddyshack. He shoots the lemon in his eye, you turn the salt over his short. Herbie: Yeah. Yeah. See, like a lot of times, you know, well, I don't I don't use I don't do training wheels with that thing. It's like called it's called you know training wheels. And like when we did that already Shamus: You knew that. I've never done that either. ⁓ yeah. Well given Herbie: The pool party, it was like me, you, Tommy, and all that stuff. We kept on thank God there was a bunch of wives there 'cause every bottle we finished we sent another wife to go get another one, man. It was a lot dude. And it was yeah. It was and it was like one of those hot summer days and I I've heard that. Yeah. Yeah. It's you and him. Yeah. ⁓ We just hammered through. Shamus: Ridiculous picture And sh. And it was like one of those where people saw it happening and they were just like, we're not even getting it. I don't even remind anybody. Like nobody came up and talked to us. No. People are like they are in the zone right now. Do not fuck with that. Herbie: That defin yeah, that definitely was like, you know, day we were definitely top gun. Shamus: I don't remember talking to anybody else that night. I mean, I I you Bobby's always like, Hey man, hey man, we're like, shut up. And he's like, Okay. Herbie: The only thing we really talked to is like another Yeah, the only other conversation we had with other people is like who's gonna do another tequila run for us, man? 'Cause that was well my god, we blew through. Shamus: You're drinking this shit. Get out of here. Yeah, at one point like we were like, Tell ⁓ to get two. Yeah. Herbie: Yeah, 'cause every time we finish one we just got another bottle and then it just yeah, it was it was Shamus: That was I forgot all about that. ⁓ man. That was good time. Herbie: remember that. I even remember ⁓ polishing off with like me and my buddies, we went tailgating and for football and it was during the s wintertime, so it was a big snowstorm. The freak they didn't ⁓ when we got there early in the morning for the tailgate They were still plowing the the parking lot. So we were there like maybe two extra hours or about two and a half. So you only had like maybe like another two and a half hours of tailgate and stuff like that. And I just hold like this big bottle of fireball. And we had we finished that in like like in 40 minutes, man. I don't even remember that goddamn game. We got pictures of it that like the b before the after. I couldn't even tell you who'd freaking win. I have to look it up. Shamus: Yeah, I did that at ⁓ the Eagles fourth and twenty six game. ⁓ yeah. It was me, my brother. ⁓ I don't want to name anybody else. But he used to own a bar around here. And we were getting ready. We had like an hour left. And he was like, ⁓ shit, I forgot. And this is another reason why I hate Yeager. He like, he like one of the big bots. It wasn't even a fifth, it was like a gallon. He was just like, Yo, I forgot I bought this. He was like, Yo, let's kill the shit before we go in. 'Cause these two dudes, I was just like, ⁓ my God. So They start handing the bottle around and before you know it, like we drank like the big ass bottle in like an hour and ten minutes. So now we're walking into the game. And I am I was I told my brother, I was like, there's no way I'm gonna remember any of this shit. Like before this stuff even hits me, I'm telling you right now. ⁓ we're walking in and there is this big black lady wearing a security vest. Herbie: No. Goddamn love. Shamus: Yeah. And she's getting all the Eagles fans together. She and she works for Olympic Financial Field, but she was like, Let's go, birds. We're gonna win this, man. Give me give me a high five if you're with the Eagles today. Let's go, birds. And my buddy walked over, looked her dead in the eyes. He's walking up on her. He goes, Fuck a high five, bitch. Give me some tongue. And just grabs her by the back of the head and just starts sucking face with this product. Herbie: Jets awesome. Shamus: Everybody in the area, like a like fifty people in the area just like Herbie: ⁓ like cheers. Let's go buy it out. ⁓ Shamus: Let her go. She's like ⁓ my Dying, bro. ⁓ yeah. Man, he passed out half time. I was still awake when fourth and twenty six happened. It was against Green Bay. And of course the girl sitting next to me, because I was at the end, the girl sitting next to me, as soon as we sat down, she she was smoking. So I was like, ⁓ yeah. So like I just like, you know, you kind of look up because I'm always the guy who gets stuck next to the old people or the fucking ugly people ⁓ on an airplane or the people that don't speak English. So I finally sit next to the smoking hot broad and I'm Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: Yes, it finally happened. And she's wearing a green hoodie, but there's no emblems on it. Yeah. And I was just like, yes. So I was hey, hey, don't we're talking blah blah blah. So kickoff and it's going pretty well. Yeah. When kickoff started, they we were playing Green Bay. Yeah. And ⁓ the guy had a pretty good return, and she was like, Fuck yeah, let's go pack. And I was like, She was like, What? I was just like, I'm sorry. Herbie: Yeah, I gotta go. Shamus: I was just like, We're gonna sit here and not talk the rest of the time. Fuck you, man. Green bag She's like, It's like that And I was I I kept talking to her, but then after that I was just like Herbie: All right, never mind, yeah. Well actually that that happened to too, is ⁓ like you know, Giants game and it was against the Eagles and I it we played against Mark Sanchez. So when I went tailgating with my friends I had like this this Giants like wrestling mask and a poncho that my buddy bought me from Alcapulco or something. So it was all decked out. ⁓ yeah, dude, it'll look good. So like and I had like these awesome seats. I have like a like ⁓ the clubhouse type seats or like yeah, the regular seats or like two hundred level and then you can go into like, you know, the the closed off bar cause you gotta have like the bracelet and everything. And ⁓ Shamus: Yeah. Herbie: I got in there. I think I watched like maybe the first quarter and I was like, all let me let me grab a beer real quick. And I go in there and everyone's like, ⁓ look at this fucking dude in the costume. And everyone's like buying me drinks and stuff. And I'm having a great time. And then next year you know, before I know it, dude, fuck game's over. And I was like, I was I went in, I was in there at the whole I was like, yeah, just taking like because people were taking pictures with me and I was talking to them and they were buying me drinks. I was just hammered. And everyone's like pissed off. I'm like, whoa, what's the matter? Like, we lost. I'm like, we lost. I missed the whole goddamn game. I got out, and as soon as we got out of the giant stadium, like where we parked, we parked behind. So when I got out, I got out front. So I had to walk all Yeah. No, actually it was ⁓ Or Met Life. Yeah, it was MetLife. Okay. But I had to walk all the way the back around by the time X where they practiced and stuff. And I was just pissed off. Like, nah, I fucking lost. Shamus: This is old Giant Stadium, Brotherford. Herbie: And that that that night, dude, I got home and I don't remember like when I woke up in the morning, one of the first things I did was like, I was like, Where's my phone at? And I I was like, Jesus Christ. Couldn't find my phone. I was like, maybe it's outside or something. Maybe it's out. And I I go outside and like my cooler's there, out in the driveway, all my clothes, freaking jersey and everything. I'm like, where the hell? I just, ⁓ it was hard. I don't even remember how the hell I got home. Cause my friends were the one that drove. So I yeah, it was it was bad. So I I I found my phone like three days later. It was still like in the backseat of my buddy's car that drove me. Shamus: Yeah, I'm usually pretty good. Like I I don't remember I I remember fourth and twenty-six and I don't remember leaving a game. My brother said, You have this thing where you just go into autopilot. Where you're just kinda like my brother, like, all right, ready to go? And you're just like, Yep. And like you don't say another fucking word. Like you just followed me the whole way, da-da-da, and have to carry anything. Like, we got in the car and I'm like, Are you all right? He was like, Yeah, yeah. And just we drove. My brother's like, that was an amazing catch. It was fourth and twenty-six. And you were just Yeah, man, it was pretty cool. Herbie: Yeah. Yeah. Shamus: What it was like dude okay it was just like some part of the night you were just like boop hit the autopilot button and you were just like and that was it. Herbie: Just shut off. It's it's like the automatic pilot from the movie Airplane that ain't playable ones just sitting there just driving along. Yeah, dude, there's yeah, this there's plenty of like football games that just get freaking just ⁓ tuned up. I you know, but that was like a a rarity that I got that messed up, man. I was like, but everyone was buying me drinks and it was all different types of stuff. So I was mixing tons of shit. Shamus: I try not to do it anymore when I go because ⁓ I went to we had fifth row center for KISS. And this is like you know, after it wasn't even a reunion tour, it was you know, they were doing their thing and I spent pretty good money on those tickets and I remember the next morning waking up thinking to myself, I don't remember having a concert, da da da I was with Bobby and those guys and I was just like, Man, I'm spending way too much money on these fucking tickets not to remember. Now I don't. Like I'll have like a beer or two. but that's about it. Herbie: Yeah. ⁓ yeah. Shamus: ⁓ that I'm getting older. Right around 35, I really start to shut it down. Yeah. It's just kinda like ⁓ 'cause my dad was a drinker and ⁓ he ended up getting cirrhosis liver and all that stuff like that. And like watching him I that that was a huge eye opener for me. And I was just like, Yeah, that's not gonna be me, bro. So ⁓ but every once in a while I get that hair. Like I'll be forty nine this July and sometimes I get that hair in my ass where I'm twenty two and I'm like, let's just let this motherfucker rip, bro. Let's Herbie: Yeah. This is like you're like Zeus from Clash of the Titans like Let Moose the Crack. Shamus: Dude, I sometimes 'cause like it and it's it just randomly happens where and I'm sure people our age probably deal with this, where you're just kinda like, Hey man, you want a beer? And you're just like, Yeah, yeah, I'll have one. And then next thing you know, it's Holy shit, man, it's three o'clock in the morning. Or like you're at a bar, like, hey, let's go get a drink at a bar. I haven't been out in a while. And the next thing you know, you know, it's the third bar and you're kind of like, yeah. And like some of the people are like, Who the fuck are these old dudes? Yeah. Herbie: Yeah. Or even like the damn house parties, man. Next one minute you're bullshit. Next thing you know, you've got all the birds chirping outside, like all right, I guess we're going to guess we're going to shop right there, start making breakfast for everybody too, man. Yeah, we've done plenty of that. You know, like after like a big Pegros party where like me and you are hitting the hitting the stores and making everybody breakfast. Shamus: Yeah. Either that or that's it's a diner. But every once in while I just and put the world on notice. Yeah. If you're not here for a good time, I do not have your best interest in my get it ripping. Herbie: Yeah. ⁓ there's times now. I don't blame you, dude. Well, I'm getting like sometimes I'm at the age now where I'll have a couple beers, I'm sitting there like, ⁓ I'm I'm sleepy. Shamus: Or that or you're just drinking and you drink and you're like, What the fuck? Like you just don't feel anything. You're just like, Man, I'm not even Herbie: ⁓ yeah, well just like that other night, man. Like when we had the the we're drinking, like the the first two beers went down like that. They don't even count really. Especially on a summer day. Yeah. Like an ice cold beer. ⁓ the first one doesn't even freaking count. It goes by so fast. And then next thing you know, it's like, you know, you just your your throat just relaxes and you you're getting there freaking hammered up. Next thing there's a bunch of dead soldiers all over the place, man. You're like, Jesus Christ, all these empty bottles. Shamus: Yeah, man. I I know it's a problem when I start jonesing 'cause ⁓ that's the only reason why like smoking. When I start Jones for a cigarette, 'cause I haven't smoked in years. So I'll just say every once in a while I'm like If I smoke this cigarette, man, we're going back to fucking shamus nineteen ninety-eight mode right here. This is gonna be bad for everybody. Herbie: Yeah. Like ⁓ I get like that too, man. I started drinking, I started ⁓ busting out like a stogie. I'm like, ⁓ this is gonna be a long night. It's gonna be a a very long, magical night. And I hope I don't wake up with like, you know sometimes I could wake up with like construction. There was there was one time I woke up with like freaking construction equipment in my in my room. I was like, what the fu? It was like you know, like Yeah, it was like the you know, almost like the little blockade, the white, the white ⁓ blockade type thing with the little stripes on it has like that flashing light. Shamus: All that shit. We used to steal the signs from outside of bars, like the chalkboard, like, Hey, come in for, you know, fifty percent off drinks or happy hour, like we would just fucking crap. Herbie: I'm sitting there, I'm I'm laying in bed and I wake up and I'm just like this it's like this yellow flashing light in my room. I'm like, what the fuck is that? And it was the goddamn it looked like, you know, like a work workhorse bench with the freaking lights on it. And like that battery lasts. Dude, I had to put it in the basement and I just put through blankets on top of it, hoping like 'cause like it was just that bright. Shamus: And I have an exit sign somewhere. Herbie: Yeah, I yeah, I I got yeah. You always wait it's like you wake up with like weird stuff, man. It's like as soon as Shamus: Like the ones that hang from the ceiling now. Like the ones that like the red light that points to the door. Yeah. I don't know where the it came. I just like where the did that ⁓ Herbie: I don't either dude. It's almost like a like a like a drunken tr ⁓ treasure hunt or some shit. Like, I don't know, a scavenger hunt. I'm like, what the why am I why do I have these things? Shamus: Yeah, just 'cause we probably thought, Hey man, it'd be funny if I Herbie: Yeah, that's what I brought. I'm sure. I was Jesus Chr. Shamus: It's good. We either used to ⁓ we used to steal the chalkboard things, like the little tripod things outside, or we would erase them. Like if we were in the bar and like, ⁓ grab a piece of chalk. So we leave, like, come in for a free hand job and a hoagie for five bucks. ⁓ people were like, What the f Herbie: Yeah. I don't actually I I had a buddy of mine like from work. He ripped off like was like this huge like football Budweiser like it was a it was a giant's Budweiser sign in the bar and he's a big dude. He saw it on the wall and he just ripped it off the wall inside the bar. And of course they got a little bit mad, but he's a big dude, so they're like, ⁓ never mind. And he's like, here you go. You just come out with some weird stuff. I remember the one time I came out with ⁓ when Champs was open out like seventy or seventy three or whatever the heck. Yeah. When they had the really big beers. I remember I Shamus: That's where ⁓ chicken pizza is now, right? Herbie: Yeah, I th right? Yeah. Yeah. But ⁓ I got out of there with a with a fully fully fill up beer and I got past the ⁓ the bouncers and stuff and just drinking in the parking lot. So I just like basically had it it was like during the winter time, so I had it like under my arm, looked like it like holding my stomach, but it was underneath my ⁓ My armpit and I was holding on to my buddy like I was drunk and I'm like, you know, hanging on to him and he's carrying me out. And I just have like his his beer and mine like underneath my arm. And I pulled it in there because it was like out towards the end of the night. And then we just like he like carrying me out. He's like, Yeah, I gotta get him out of here, dude. He's hammered like, yeah, just take him, take him, take him. Then we got in the parking lot, like pull out these two full beard, like that was great. Employers get souvenirs. Shamus: Another thing, man, back in the day when I got in the military, like even in when we were in high school and stuff, cops never really bothered. Like we would have beer in the car. Like we like my buddy Chris always had a ⁓ at least a case in his trunk. Like on ice or just sitting there. And like we would just, hey, let's go to you know, whatever. And we we'd just drive. Damn. Like it was crazy. You can't do that shit now. No. Herbie: Nowhere near that dude. You can't even have one bottle in there that's open. Shamus: We b I mean, like we were sitting in the back of pickup people would be driving. We were in the back of pickup truck drinking as they're driving and we're going to parties and shit like that. You can't do that shit no more. Society's so fucking weakened. So I guess we should wrap this up. We're an hour, hour eight into it. Okay. All right, everybody. Well, if you have any ⁓ any stories of your own, feel free to drop us a line. ⁓ make sure you like, rate, subscribe to the podcast, put the word out. We're gonna start ⁓ like I said. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: School's getting out in about three weeks, so I'm gonna start putting more time and effort into this thing. We're gonna start on making merch. We're gonna start hitting up the video part of it. We're gonna start building a studio and all that stuff. So Herbie: Yeah, mail in some or you know, like let us leave us some comments and stuff like that. So if you guys ⁓ have other ideas that you want us to talk about or you know, 'cause ⁓ a lot of people hear us and ⁓ when we're talking about certain subjects, ⁓ a lot of people reply that they're actually listening. So yeah, just let us know, man, 'cause you know, we'd like to have a conversation. Shamus: ⁓ If you have an idea for a show, hit us up. And ⁓ make sure you keep sending in some, you know, ⁓ you like the mailbag thing. ⁓ what's this episode twenty you said? So Snipes Mobile Window 10 is gonna be twenty-one, then we got another episode and we got so the twenty-fifth episode's coming up, and we're gonna do what we're gonna do for that is kind of go into where we're at at this point. And then we'll answer some of the yeah, some QA stuff on the mailbag. And ⁓ you know, just hope you guys are enjoying what you're hearing. Herbie: Yeah.
