[SPEAKER_03]: Hey everybody, welcome back to the Grimmulkin Lane Patreon channel.
• 0:03
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm your host Chad Anderson.
• 0:04
[SPEAKER_03]: It is 26 on Grimmulkin Lane and in the world, we're recording this in mid December, who knows what has happened between now and release, but it's night crawler month on Grimmulkin Lane and we are giving ourselves permission to be joyful and have a great time.
• 0:19
[SPEAKER_03]: I am so excited to be joining with two friends.
• 0:22
[SPEAKER_03]: from real life and from the show and online, Mandy Martini, and Julie at Orr, Rukesaless are here.
• 0:29
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm so excited to have you both here.
• 0:31
[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to have such a good time because we're talking about an X-Men fan favorite side character, the incredible series.
• 0:38
[SPEAKER_03]: You have seen this woman if you have not read about her, but if you have read her,
• 0:41
  [SPEAKER_03]: you really enjoy her.
• 0:43
  [SPEAKER_03]: I guarantee it.
• 0:44
  [SPEAKER_03]: She's a fun side character.
• 0:46
[SPEAKER_03]: Let me have my guests introduce themselves initially.
• 0:50
[SPEAKER_03]: Tell us a little about yourself in your pronouns.
• 0:52
[SPEAKER_03]: I'd love to hear Julia, especially tell everybody a little of your ex-man origin story.
• 0:56
[SPEAKER_03]: It's your first time on the show.
• 0:58
[SPEAKER_03]: And then I'd love to hear what do you love about Cerise?
• 1:01
[SPEAKER_03]: Let's begin by welcoming Julia to the show.
• 1:04
  [SPEAKER_03]: Hi, Julia.
• 1:04
  [SPEAKER_03]: Welcome to Grimmolkin Lane.
• 1:06
[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, I was so excited to be here.
• 1:08
[SPEAKER_00]: I met you both at the uncanny experience, I think, over this past summer, which was such, I literally, I'm already planning for next year.
• 1:17
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm out in the East Coast, Pennsylvania area, like about an hour north of Philadelphia.
• 1:22
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's my usual realm for conventions and stuff.
• 1:25
[SPEAKER_00]: So the first time I really traveled for convention and I will literally never miss it ever again.
• 1:32
[SPEAKER_00]: it was so much fun.
• 1:34
[SPEAKER_00]: My X-Men, so I'm on the underside.
• 1:37
  [SPEAKER_00]: I was I'm 22.
• 1:39
[SPEAKER_00]: So my like X-Men introduction was like the movies for what was really big and that's how I knew about it.
• 1:45
[SPEAKER_00]: Like the cartoon from the 90s was before my time.
• 1:48
[SPEAKER_00]: Even like X-Men evolution, I was still really little when that was out.
• 1:53
[SPEAKER_00]: So like I wasn't like watching cartoons at that age.
• 1:56
[SPEAKER_00]: I was I was still like, I mean, that was
• 1:59
[SPEAKER_01]: which I was still like really really little.
• 2:02
[SPEAKER_00]: So that was my introduction.
• 2:03
[SPEAKER_00]: So I really got into the movies when I was in middle school, recognizing that.
• 2:09
[SPEAKER_00]: I still love the movies to this date, but they're kind of a hot mess.
• 2:12
[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of times, like it was so clear, they didn't know what they wanted to do with the movies, but that's how it was introduced to a lot of characters.
• 2:18
[SPEAKER_00]: Like Salaq was my favorite for the longest time.
• 2:21
[SPEAKER_00]: And when she finally appeared for like 30 seconds and apocalypse, and then never appeared again, it was so great.
• 2:28
[SPEAKER_00]: But that from there is when I actually kind of started reading comics and stuff, and I would just do a lot of like Wikipedia deep dives into like, like, oh, this character was in the movie.
• 2:38
[SPEAKER_00]: Let me do some research.
• 2:39
[SPEAKER_00]: And that's actually how I figured out about Pixie, who was like my all-time favorite, and I love her so much.
• 2:45
  [SPEAKER_03]: I guarantee I'll have you back
• 2:49
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so not more than about her.
• 2:51
[SPEAKER_00]: So Reese, as a character who's never, I don't think she's ever been animated.
• 2:56
[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, didn't appear in any movies and stuff.
• 2:58
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I know it happened on some Wikipedia deep dive, at some point, and she's, despite being objectively a minor character, she's always kind of been on my radar.
• 3:07
[SPEAKER_00]: Of never been super crazy about the whole Shiar stuff, but like, so Reese as a character, I feel like she's so far removed from a lot of all the, like, the Shiar storylines.
• 3:20
[SPEAKER_03]: So she was a character I was reading in comics growing up, but like I had never done like a read through from her perspective, which is always a good time, but I was surprised at first of all how long it took them to get to her story.
• 3:33
[SPEAKER_03]: And second, she takes up more room than I remembered.
• 3:36
  [SPEAKER_03]: Like, she's fun.
• 3:37
[SPEAKER_03]: I really love what she does, but she doesn't take up as much space as I initially recalled.
• 3:41
[SPEAKER_03]: Let me have, let me welcome Mandy back to the show.
• 3:43
[SPEAKER_03]: How many of you feel like forever since we
• 3:46
  [SPEAKER_01]: I know, um, I big birthday.
• 3:49
[SPEAKER_01]: I think was the last one we did.
• 3:51
  [SPEAKER_01]: So hi everybody.
• 3:53
  [SPEAKER_01]: I'm to be in a martini.
• 3:54
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure a lot of you are sick of me on this show, but I'm sorry.
• 4:01
[SPEAKER_01]: this initial introduction of her and like her first like big chunk of run like this is my golden era like this is when I was going to the comic book shop every Saturday getting the new x calibre but you know what I mean like I was getting x calibre and every time I was in the comic book shop and when Sir Reese was introduced I was like yes
• 4:22
  [SPEAKER_01]: Who is this woman?
• 4:23
  [SPEAKER_01]: Who is she though?
• 4:24
[SPEAKER_01]: She was sexy, she was tall, and I think like now looking back and like the characters that I I tend to like, like the fact that she was a warrior who was a little self-sufficient, but also a little naive and also like, let's make out with the hot guy, you know, who's like here.
• 4:43
[SPEAKER_01]: Fully into like she's a very big barter coded in that way, who has been on my mind a lot recently.
• 4:50
[SPEAKER_01]: and and also like her the fact that she could like make thing like it wasn't like psychic energy it wasn't whatever it was like she was like the green lantern powers except they were pink and she wasn't evil like a star sapphire like one of my favorite panels of her of all time which we'll get into is when she runs up on an enemy and just makes it shield and an axe and she's like yep
• 5:09
[SPEAKER_01]: I was going to start fighting with some people and I just always thought she was so cool.
• 5:13
[SPEAKER_01]: So today I had to wear my 1993 Excalibur shirt that her surge towers.
• 5:20
[SPEAKER_01]: He's also known as X-Men fan t-shirts on Instagram.
• 5:24
[SPEAKER_01]: But this is the full complete Excalibur team that lasted literally from Sir Reese's introduction up until Excalibur 70.
• 5:34
[SPEAKER_01]: And so it has fair on, it has widget, it has Kylen just.
• 5:38
[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone and like these are like my babies.
• 5:41
[SPEAKER_01]: These are my favorites and so Reese's part of it.
• 5:43
[SPEAKER_01]: I've actually also cosplayed series, but it was Jamie Faye, known as Jamie Faye X on Instagram.
• 5:51
[SPEAKER_01]: It was his redesign because I couldn't.
• 5:54
[SPEAKER_01]: I still can't quite do strapless tops and cosplay and so he designed where she just has like a boob window.
• 6:00
[SPEAKER_01]: It was and I had armor made and like it looked so cool.
• 6:05
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, you guys can dig through my Instagram to find it.
• 6:07
[SPEAKER_01]: It was a really cool design.
• 6:08
[SPEAKER_01]: I am quite happy with how the suit and the armor came out.
• 6:11
[SPEAKER_01]: Unfortunately, the hair part, which is the part that I made, was not my favorite doing that she are like flare of hair, per very difficult.
• 6:21
[SPEAKER_01]: So when I first finished it, it was great.
• 6:25
[SPEAKER_01]: And like I put it on, I put the helmet on.
• 6:26
  [SPEAKER_01]: Everything was wonderful.
• 6:28
[SPEAKER_01]: But that was two days before the actual convention.
• 6:30
[SPEAKER_01]: And then I didn't take pictures until at the end of the day at the convention when I wore it.
• 6:36
[SPEAKER_01]: So just gravity was just my enemy and so like all of them started coming down.
• 6:40
[SPEAKER_01]: So I need to figure out another way to do it.
• 6:42
[SPEAKER_01]: So I can wear series again and perhaps do a look closer to her comics look.
• 6:48
[SPEAKER_01]: But I've just always loved her.
• 6:50
[SPEAKER_03]: For listeners of my show and I do have a lot of listeners who follow the show and have not read X-Men comics outside.
• 6:56
[SPEAKER_03]: So like I have a group of fans that like listen to the show and like read the issues along.
• 7:00
[SPEAKER_03]: So these character episodes are always wild because we're jumping all over the universe.
• 7:04
[SPEAKER_03]: This is not a character, I'm gonna take a ton of time to give all of this set up for.
• 7:08
[SPEAKER_03]: For example, if I throw the word technet out, you just gotta go with me.
• 7:11
[SPEAKER_03]: You can go look it up on your own.
• 7:14
[SPEAKER_03]: I've done episodes that kind of are supplemental to this, a serious part of Excalibur, which is a huge team with a ton of continuity and a ton of stories.
• 7:22
[SPEAKER_03]: And this is Nightcrawler Month.
• 7:24
[SPEAKER_03]: So she is a love interest of Nightcrawler, which we're gonna talk about.
• 7:27
[SPEAKER_03]: We're gonna talk a little about the world of the Shiar,
• 7:30
[SPEAKER_03]: really we're just going to hit you with the world from Teresa's perspective for this episode.
• 7:34
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not going to take a ton of tangents to be like, hey, what's this and what's that?
• 7:38
[SPEAKER_03]: I often will do that on the show, but for this character we're just going to let it be the series show.
• 7:43
[SPEAKER_01]: To be honest, I feel like that's what works for her because
• 7:46
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, she doesn't, like, yeah, the tickets there, this whole first battle that she gets if we're able to do.
• 7:52
[SPEAKER_01]: She doesn't really do a whole lot in it.
• 7:54
[SPEAKER_01]: So it doesn't make sense for her episode to talk about all of the other stuff that happens while she's there.
• 8:01
[SPEAKER_03]: Now, Julia, I'm gonna presume that at some of the comics you read for preparation for this episode, it was your first time seeing a lot of them.
• 8:08
  [SPEAKER_03]: Is that accurate?
• 8:09
[SPEAKER_00]: So I decided to just read Excalibur from the beginning, because I've never read it before.
• 8:14
  [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, it's a journalist.
• 8:16
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, but really, because I didn't want to just jump in with, you know, where series comes in, but honestly, where she comes, like, and she's like, and now, Teresa's here, she doesn't have like any build up or anything.
• 8:27
[SPEAKER_00]: And there's a reason it's not immediate, like, it's several issues later.
• 8:31
  [SPEAKER_00]: Like, 20.
• 8:32
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're actually like, okay, we're going to explain why Teresa's here now, because for like, yeah, like 20 issues, they're like, and now she's part of the team, and we're all cool with it.
• 8:41
[SPEAKER_00]: And she's cool, and she's kiss and night crawler.
• 8:43
[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to set it up from her perspective.
• 8:45
[SPEAKER_03]: For those that are listening to my main show, we're set in the early 1970s.
• 8:49
[SPEAKER_03]: There's been a slow, subplot building in our expense scriptreeds, where Xavier's been having headaches, and he keeps seeing this like woman in bug armor, like appearing in his dreams.
• 8:58
[SPEAKER_03]: It's very Princess Leia in a way.
• 9:00
[SPEAKER_03]: We haven't met her on the show yet, but this ends up being the character LaLandra Naramani, who is the runaway princess of the
• 9:07
  [SPEAKER_03]: There's an M-Cron crystal.
• 9:09
[SPEAKER_03]: They have a whole imperial guard.
• 9:10
[SPEAKER_03]: It's like the Knights of the Roundtable, except everyone has superpowers, but they also represent conquered races from the Empire of the Shiar.
• 9:18
[SPEAKER_03]: The Shiar themselves are like bird people.
• 9:21
[SPEAKER_03]: They're humanoid with like more hollow bones, but they also have enhanced strength.
• 9:25
[SPEAKER_03]: They have very feathered hair and kind of more elongated features a lot of them.
• 9:37
[SPEAKER_03]: LaLandra and Xavier have been together often on characters die and they come back.
• 9:42
[SPEAKER_03]: The society is obsessed with cloning people and then they have a bunch of warriors and secret societies and there's a lot of Shiar lore.
• 9:50
[SPEAKER_03]: One of the most I've said this on the show before but back on I worked on the official handbooks.
• 9:54
[SPEAKER_03]: One of the most headachey episodes are excuse me entries that I wrote for the handbooks was the Shiar.
• 9:59
[SPEAKER_03]: Because I had to like, there's a section at the very beginning alone that says known members, which means every she or character who'd ever been named on panel had to be listed alphabetically in that space, which we're talking every little tiny spaceship appearance from every comic book, ever where they're like, bronda, where are we?
• 10:15
[SPEAKER_03]: And then the ship blows up.
• 10:15
[SPEAKER_03]: But I'm like, no member, bronda, I just made that name up.
• 10:18
  [SPEAKER_03]: But
• 10:19
[SPEAKER_03]: What I'm getting at is this is a complicated race.
• 10:21
[SPEAKER_03]: It was a fun entry to write.
• 10:22
[SPEAKER_03]: You can go look up at the Shiar entry.
• 10:24
[SPEAKER_03]: That was written by yours truly.
• 10:26
[SPEAKER_03]: I also did the Imperial Guard entry, both for this and for the moral appendix.
• 10:30
[SPEAKER_03]: So this is a world I've spent a lot of time in.
• 10:32
[SPEAKER_03]: Surries is a character that I had not actively considered, but she's a ton of fun.
• 10:36
[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to jump into the world of Excalibur Number 46.
• 10:39
[SPEAKER_03]: It is 1991, and Alan Davis is going crazy.
• 10:43
  [SPEAKER_03]: There's a ton of subplots.
• 10:45
[SPEAKER_03]: It's fun, but we're just going to jump right into the middle of the chaos, because that's where Cere's lands.
• 10:49
[SPEAKER_03]: There's a strange insectoid alien shouting in an unfamiliar tongue.
• 10:54
[SPEAKER_03]: She is deep red, surrounded in pink energy, clearly some sort of intense threat.
• 10:58
[SPEAKER_03]: But if you, the next issue in 47, there's a disrupted fight between Excalibur and Technet and there's a bunch of green baby dragons being born, don't worry about it.
• 11:07
[SPEAKER_03]: And the alien unmasks to show a very feminine Shiaar face.
• 11:11
[SPEAKER_03]: She's got an Ornate pink skull cap with a long white ponytail extending from the back.
• 11:16
[SPEAKER_03]: The sides of her hair plume outward, almost like Wolverine, but it's feathers.
• 11:19
[SPEAKER_03]: They are purple on the top, pink in the middle, white on the bottom, which I think she got her feathers dyed.
• 11:24
  [SPEAKER_03]: That's my opinion.
• 11:25
[SPEAKER_03]: Her lipstick matches her hair and her hat and her earrings.
• 11:28
[SPEAKER_03]: and she's figuring out the language through her translator.
• 11:32
[SPEAKER_01]: I am Siris, warrior of the Grand John.
• 11:36
[SPEAKER_03]: It's Grand Jar, but it's Grand Jar.
• 11:39
[SPEAKER_03]: Look at your ages in there.
• 11:41
[SPEAKER_01]: as an infamously in the final sacrifice of Mystery Science Cedar 3000, that is an illegal use of a continent.
• 11:49
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's a grand jihar, Jean stock of the spooky Xars stock, and Koolika.
• 11:56
[SPEAKER_01]: Mine is the power to generate maliable energy fields of coherent life force that obey my will.
• 12:03
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, so we're gonna talk origins for this character, but this first line, we don't know much about the grand jahar.
• 12:09
[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get there a little bit, but we certainly don't know who Subrukey's are talking coolie car.
• 12:14
[SPEAKER_03]: This has never been followed up on.
• 12:15
[SPEAKER_03]: So she's like, take me to your leader, basically.
• 12:17
[SPEAKER_03]: Like, what's just the dominant life force on this planet?
• 12:20
[SPEAKER_03]: And she sees night crawler, who looks the most human among this crowd, which is crazy, because like Kailan and widget and Lockheed are all here.
• 12:26
[SPEAKER_03]: And the full tech net.
• 12:28
[SPEAKER_03]: And she explains, and Mandy, I'm really excited to hear you pronounce some of these words.
• 12:32
[SPEAKER_01]: What's so funny about this is they're they're literally just like hey, so like who are you and instead of just like oh I'm from this planet cool cool She literally goes into this like fully well-spoke and dietride.
• 12:45
[SPEAKER_01]: I was traveling through hyperspace for my home world Shush cool frugan, just frugan on to the flemnon rim front here I do love I do love a flemnon rare
• 12:59
  [SPEAKER_01]: Right!
• 12:59
[SPEAKER_01]: I had grown bored of the comfortable routine of our society and sought adventure, but as I passed through the quasi-unfield of Tyra or Tri-R, fierce turbulent struck me.
• 13:11
[SPEAKER_01]: I burnt out of my transit suits, do cane drive and unit, trying to resist, but the vortex was too strong.
• 13:19
[SPEAKER_01]: I was sucked in completely out of control, and I crashed materialized here.
• 13:24
[SPEAKER_01]: I have no idea where this earth is in relation to shash kufroognan.
• 13:30
[SPEAKER_01]: My transit sensors are unable to detect any familiar astral configurations.
• 13:35
[SPEAKER_01]: It's logical to assume I'm extremely far from home.
• 13:38
[SPEAKER_01]: If not in space, possibly in time, still it looks like I could have a lot of fun here.
• 13:45
[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm wondering Juliet, when is the last time that you had your grand jahar shash kufroognan?
• 13:51
  [SPEAKER_00]: Is that Swedish?
• 13:52
[SPEAKER_03]: Doesn't it look a little bit like you guys watch a rose from the Golden Girls?
• 13:56
  [SPEAKER_03]: She's like this.
• 13:57
[SPEAKER_03]: You're for two or three of them.
• 13:58
  [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
• 13:58
[SPEAKER_03]: You can end your Shashka for move nuns.
• 14:00
  [SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
• 14:00
[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm saying something to Swedish, I would say.
• 14:03
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
• 14:04
[SPEAKER_01]: So my actual favorite interaction.
• 14:06
[SPEAKER_01]: So like after the rest of X caliber shows up, everyone just like, wait, who are all these people?
• 14:12
[SPEAKER_01]: So Reese continues to restate this over and over again.
• 14:17
  [SPEAKER_01]: And Kylan's like, hey, I'm Kylan.
• 14:19
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, it's like girl, that's all they need of.
• 14:21
[SPEAKER_01]: They just wanted your name and she's like, giving like this full speech every time.
• 14:25
[SPEAKER_01]: And also, if you want to try to pass off a story that is probably not true, the more details you put into it, the more likely people will believe you.
• 14:34
[SPEAKER_03]: Now we're going to later learn she's lying at least somewhat.
• 14:36
  [SPEAKER_03]: The words are recent.
• 14:38
[SPEAKER_03]: I have a weird fascination for names of birds and names of colors.
• 14:42
[SPEAKER_03]: The word series is a color and I like knowing the names of colors.
• 14:45
[SPEAKER_03]: So the reason is like a dark pink.
• 14:47
[SPEAKER_03]: But if you look up the official definition, the color at the end of the color spectrum next to orange, resembling the color of blood or cherries or tomatoes or rubies, which is interesting.
• 14:57
[SPEAKER_03]: So it's like a dark pink basically.
• 14:59
[SPEAKER_01]: It's also the French word for cherry.
• 15:01
  [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, sure, sure.
• 15:03
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, which is interesting to use a French word for an alien character.
• 15:07
[SPEAKER_03]: Ellen Davis had a particular plan and then didn't last on the book.
• 15:10
[SPEAKER_03]: But this is an example of when comics used to go on for a long time.
• 15:14
[SPEAKER_03]: This character got introduced and then gets slowly built and kind of the background for quite some time.
• 15:19
[SPEAKER_03]: And we really don't see it pay off for a couple of years under a different writer's pen.
• 15:23
[SPEAKER_01]: I love the Alan Davis just introduces all of these characters at the end of his pretty much at the end of his run to be like Here's a new play pin for everybody to play in and I just love Alan Davis.
• 15:35
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, and issues 48 through 51 of Excalibur.
• 15:39
[SPEAKER_01]: This is for people who know no
• 15:41
[SPEAKER_01]: This is the big Nechrom anti-fenix storyline.
• 15:45
[SPEAKER_01]: So Serize agrees to hang out and fight because there is a lot happening.
• 15:51
[SPEAKER_01]: And in all of the commotion, Serize mostly just kind of stands around and uses her tech to get readings on widget who they think might be responsible for, or affected by all of the crazy goings on, because they can definitely tell that like, the multiverse seems to be converging in the lighthouse.
• 16:07
  [SPEAKER_01]: However, it's Nechrom, ooh!
• 16:10
[SPEAKER_01]: So while the core five of Excalibur merge bodies in some crazy nonsense, truly do not worry about it.
• 16:17
[SPEAKER_01]: The Excalibur newbies, Surries, Kylen, Micromax and Ferron go to a tech net grum only for him to depart, and he's confronted by Rachel.
• 16:26
[SPEAKER_01]: Excalibur wins, Rachel is comatose, and everyone sleeps through a crazy side story about Dino Excalibur.
• 16:32
  [SPEAKER_03]: Mandy, what's in me?
• 16:33
  [SPEAKER_03]: Crom?
• 16:35
[SPEAKER_01]: You do not need to worry about him at all.
• 16:37
[SPEAKER_01]: This is literally his only appearance.
• 16:39
[SPEAKER_01]: He, if you think of it and like, Buffy sends, he's the big bad of the season that then they defeat and they move on to it to a new season.
• 16:49
[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get into some Phoenix Force content in good time on my show and we'll talk about Necroman to all of the nonsense that's going on there.
• 16:56
[SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, she's just kind of in the background for the team adventures.
• 17:00
[SPEAKER_03]: They're like, hey, here's the new friend.
• 17:01
[SPEAKER_03]: Let's just have her hang around.
• 17:02
  [SPEAKER_03]: She's crazy.
• 17:03
[SPEAKER_03]: she's a new friend and also super useful sounds great thanks friend hard light projections uh the ability to form four shields the ability to uh I mean it's green lantern like you said yeah she's forming things songbird from the Thunderbolts has the same power with like sonic waves
• 17:21
[SPEAKER_01]: Doctors from from the squadron supreme say her her her other her other other big helpful thing that she does a lot is she can do the force bubble where she can carry everybody with her that seems to be like a lot of stuff like a lot of things that she does for a while you so window with her bubble.
• 17:39
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh my god, wicked part two for good, but they added that new song where Ariana Grande's like, I'm a girl in the bubble, but it's time for my bubble, the pop I fucking hated that song.
• 17:50
  [SPEAKER_01]: So amazing.
• 17:51
[SPEAKER_01]: I did that here for either of the two new songs, but...
• 17:54
[SPEAKER_03]: What's the other way out of God Day?
• 17:56
[SPEAKER_03]: Did not love that song?
• 17:57
[SPEAKER_03]: Love wicked, love us, that's all I did not do it.
• 18:00
[SPEAKER_03]: The Excalibur has a ton of in-shots.
• 18:02
[SPEAKER_03]: One of them is Excalibur, the ex-excrossing, which just sounds like a porn video.
• 18:07
[SPEAKER_03]: There's a weird villain named Side Step, who teams up with Dr.
• 18:10
[SPEAKER_03]: doomed to destroy Excalibur, and so he pits a bunch of them against the original X-Men in different time periods, it's very kind of the conqueror.
• 18:19
[SPEAKER_03]: So Reese ends up in this adventure in a world ruled by sentinels in the future.
• 18:23
[SPEAKER_03]: She joins with some emaciated mutant rebels.
• 18:26
[SPEAKER_03]: She ends up destroying a Sentinel controlled by Professor X before going back to the main timeline.
• 18:32
[SPEAKER_03]: And in my opinion, this is kind of her first big powerhouse moment.
• 18:34
[SPEAKER_03]: She has a little bit of a solo story.
• 18:36
[SPEAKER_03]: She's fighting set-and-tools controlled by like Professor X, right?
• 18:40
[SPEAKER_03]: So there's some cool moments and she's definitely in the mutant world at this point.
• 18:44
[SPEAKER_03]: It's more than the Excalibur Crazy.
• 18:46
[SPEAKER_01]: So because this happens in continuity right after the whole necrum thing, it really does allow characters like series and kylon and I think even fairons and it kind of gives everybody just like a little bit of something.
• 18:58
[SPEAKER_01]: So because we just met a lot.
• 19:01
  [SPEAKER_03]: There's a big team.
• 19:02
[SPEAKER_03]: Now, when I first started buying Excalibur, is when they paired down the book, like around the early 70s, where all the characters were getting written out.
• 19:10
[SPEAKER_03]: And so what I was trying to buy this early stuff, I'm like, who the hell is people?
• 19:13
[SPEAKER_03]: You know, why don't you understand all this continuity?
• 19:16
[SPEAKER_03]: Now, by Excalibur 55, Alan Davis is still in control.
• 19:19
[SPEAKER_03]: Juliet, I got to throw you into the world of Excalibur, but tell us about, begin with Excalibur 55.
• 19:24
[SPEAKER_03]: Tell us about this next era for series.
• 19:26
  [SPEAKER_00]: I really like these 55 and 56.
• 19:29
[SPEAKER_00]: It's they're having a party at the the the manner and everyone will one Betsy's back and she's hanging out and she's an injure and they don't really question all that that's you know it's a different story, but they have a party in series is.
• 19:42
[SPEAKER_00]: the best dress by for she's got this like lace bodysuit that goes into like a turtle and she looks so hot fake Saturdays at your nine or whatever pretending to be Courtney is a close second for best dress and Megan is last because she has this terrible like donut pair going on that we don't have like it's it's pretty bad.
• 20:00
[SPEAKER_03]: Do you know what's a satire nine we're not going there I'm just kidding
• 20:04
[SPEAKER_00]: If you know what, you got to read all of Excalibur, like I did, and that's the one that you're dying in.
• 20:10
  [UNKNOWN]: Right.
• 20:11
  [SPEAKER_00]: Right.
• 20:11
[SPEAKER_00]: Saturnine comes in and like fullen makes out with Brian in front of Megan just to, you know, be a bitch.
• 20:18
[SPEAKER_00]: And so Megan's like, well, now I need to kiss Brian to make up for that.
• 20:22
[SPEAKER_00]: And so he says, like, what are you doing?
• 20:24
  [SPEAKER_00]: What is that?
• 20:24
[SPEAKER_03]: And Kurt's like, that's, she calls it what litmusage is litmusage is litmusage an important ceremony on this world.
• 20:31
  [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and highly enjoyable.
• 20:33
[SPEAKER_03]: And so she just grabs him and they start making out in front of a grandfather clock and for three little panels and then she goes highly enjoyable and he goes, Oh, did I not do it right?
• 20:42
[SPEAKER_03]: She asks everyone's staring at the two of them.
• 20:45
[SPEAKER_03]: It's how I love that she's taller than night crawler two.
• 20:48
  [SPEAKER_03]: It's really great.
• 20:52
[SPEAKER_00]: She's so tall and she's always bring heels too, which I love.
• 20:54
[SPEAKER_00]: But then this is my genie, Braddock comes back and he's, you know, whacked out as normal and he's causing problems.
• 21:00
[SPEAKER_00]: So then we have Alessand, who's the Alster's sister, who we don't have time to go.
• 21:04
[SPEAKER_00]: But they keep calling her, Alestane may I, in this issue, particularly, I did keep calling her the wrong name, but it doesn't matter because she dies in this issue.
• 21:12
[SPEAKER_00]: So we don't have to worry about calling her the wrong name anymore.
• 21:14
[SPEAKER_03]: There will inevitably be an Alestane, Alessand, and Alestair Stewart episode of my show.
• 21:19
[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get there in time.
• 21:21
  [SPEAKER_00]: I really liked her.
• 21:21
[SPEAKER_00]: I was a little I was kind of sad that they they killed her off like that, but I think Jamie Braddock is such like an interesting character, but he shows up and kills Allison and then I guess captures all of Excalibur say for Katie who's like hiding in a wall for several hours.
• 21:43
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not a fan of that, but Katie shows up and I guess Jamie and Sat, you're nine or whatever, they're working together because she's letting Jamie take the rest of Excalibur and she's being a creep with Brian and has him like brainwashed and it's not my favorite but she's evil so I guess and it's Katie who comes in and is able to like kind of
• 22:06
[SPEAKER_00]: I forget it is a Megan who Megan breaks out first of like Jamie's like warping cut because she's a shapeshift.
• 22:12
[SPEAKER_03]: They just have the hugest hair in this issue.
• 22:14
  [SPEAKER_03]: I love it.
• 22:15
[SPEAKER_00]: And then it's all like, I think they're knocking me out and he's like take the honestly for how powerful he is.
• 22:20
[SPEAKER_00]: He's taken up pretty easily in this and it's mostly like sat Saturnine and her, you know, whatever fake Saturnine and her like army of women in her fake, like you're
• 22:33
[SPEAKER_03]: it's so recently has nothing to do here, but it she throws up a shield.
• 22:37
  [SPEAKER_00]: That's about it.
• 22:39
  [SPEAKER_03]: In 57, we're in 1992.
• 22:40
[SPEAKER_03]: This is where Scott lib bell joins with Joe Madgerara.
• 22:43
[SPEAKER_03]: And I love the cover of this book.
• 22:45
[SPEAKER_03]: It's a team up between Excalibur and the X-Men.
• 22:48
[SPEAKER_03]: And they fight the troll associates, whose names all start with pH.
• 22:51
[SPEAKER_03]: We've got Fumfop, Faith, Flop, Flemmen, Fo.
• 22:54
[SPEAKER_00]: I think even running this down because I didn't pay attention to any of those.
• 22:57
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, then there's this little goblin saga.
• 23:00
[SPEAKER_01]: It's a follow up of an ex-collar or of an ex-factor story from the 80s, which is fantastic.
• 23:06
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, yeah, I didn't read that, so it was like, what is happening?
• 23:10
[SPEAKER_00]: So Reese honestly does not do much.
• 23:12
[SPEAKER_00]: She at one point they're like go get fair and and she goes get fair and and bring some back and that is about it.
• 23:18
[SPEAKER_00]: This is the first time that like I can kitty meets Jubilee and Gambit too, which is just like a fun thing that they threw in here because they've been off at Excalibur the whole time.
• 23:28
[SPEAKER_00]: They don't know these two characters that become like obviously so important.
• 23:32
[SPEAKER_00]: But they're like, oh hey god, we've got two new guys.
• 23:34
  [SPEAKER_00]: Now just say hi.
• 23:35
[SPEAKER_00]: All right, we're out like this none of this actually matters.
• 23:40
[SPEAKER_03]: She gets to refer to her her star sensors in this like my star sensors like scanning things and that crawler like veins in attack and like Waps across the face in a panel, but I think she's into it.
• 23:53
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think she's like she's got armor on like that's a little German like twink like she's fine.
• 24:00
[SPEAKER_03]: they get to do some more making out my personal favorite, the living massage.
• 24:04
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, honestly, in the next it's there's a whole Wakandan subplot that series and Kurt in like 50, 59 and 60 that are they're totally just not involved in it.
• 24:14
[SPEAKER_00]: They're dealing with other stuff still in London.
• 24:17
[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm not even going to get into the Wakandan subplot because series has nothing to do with it.
• 24:21
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I think 59 starts with issues lying to do makeup and is like eating lipstick apparently, which I don't get because she's wearing lipstick in every appearance that we see here is that like, are we supposed to believe that's for like natural like she just had beautiful pinky like red lips all the time.
• 24:36
  [SPEAKER_00]: She's a alien.
• 24:37
  [SPEAKER_03]: Is this lipstick?
• 24:37
  [SPEAKER_03]: It tastes horrible.
• 24:41
[SPEAKER_00]: But then her and Curgut, you go on a date to the opera and it doesn't end well because of course not.
• 24:45
[SPEAKER_00]: But I thought that was cute.
• 24:46
[SPEAKER_00]: I actually like, I really like her as a pairing with Curgut.
• 24:50
  [SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, I was like a long-term thing but I just think it's fun.
• 24:53
  [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's better than Amanda.
• 24:55
[SPEAKER_03]: In 60 is when they go after that old night guy, the night errand.
• 25:01
[SPEAKER_03]: There's an old man in William Matson who's like a retired mercenary who here.
• 25:06
[SPEAKER_03]: He calls himself the night errand.
• 25:07
[SPEAKER_03]: He floats around on a mechanical horse.
• 25:09
[SPEAKER_03]: and they like hunt him down because he's committing some crimes.
• 25:12
  [SPEAKER_03]: It's not, it's not super consequential.
• 25:14
[SPEAKER_03]: And she again refers to except this time that she calls them her, yeah, her stellar sensors.
• 25:19
[SPEAKER_03]: So star sensor, stellar sensor.
• 25:20
  [SPEAKER_03]: She's like tracking people.
• 25:23
[SPEAKER_03]: She also notes that there's a chronological anomaly.
• 25:25
[SPEAKER_03]: So like there's some sort of like computer thing happening as she's like reading the area around her.
• 25:30
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but 61, I don't know if we shouldn't do much, but then 62, they're all, like, alisters attack.
• 25:35
[SPEAKER_00]: They go to, like, rescue him from whatever.
• 25:38
[SPEAKER_00]: And then she gets knocked out for the first time, which I, like, I feel like conveniently, a lot of times they go knocked out.
• 25:44
[SPEAKER_00]: And then both of this is the first time we see surgeries get knocked out.
• 25:47
[SPEAKER_00]: So we're dealing with something serious because she's proven herself to be pretty, like, pretty for middle.
• 25:52
  [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, she's wearing a helmet for God's sake.
• 25:54
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, how was she getting knocked out of that?
• 25:56
[SPEAKER_03]: There's a really fun moment in 61 to where they're like training and she like forms like a cerise armor around that crawler who's like sparring with Captain Britain.
• 26:05
[SPEAKER_03]: So it's like, it's like, it's almost like armor suit, but like it's connected to her like little power arm bands that she's like forming the the light around him, which is, which is interesting.
• 26:15
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, um, then there's the Nigel Frobisher comes back.
• 26:19
  [SPEAKER_00]: Who knows?
• 26:20
[SPEAKER_00]: We don't have time to get anything.
• 26:22
  [SPEAKER_03]: I still found out.
• 26:24
  [SPEAKER_03]: I love Nigel Provisure.
• 26:26
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how many such a fun story.
• 26:27
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so they get like captured.
• 26:30
[SPEAKER_00]: He's like Excalibur's to spend it and he captures it's Serious Kitty and Kurt.
• 26:35
[SPEAKER_00]: In 63 is my favorite because they're just kind of like sitting there and the Serious gets to learn more about Earth and how humans work.
• 26:44
[SPEAKER_00]: My favorite is, so like I guess the all of the she are just, you know, a merge fully grown.
• 26:49
[SPEAKER_00]: She calls it for like, oh, from the source, which is just so ominous.
• 26:52
[SPEAKER_00]: And she goes, Kitty, are you still a children?
• 26:55
[SPEAKER_00]: Because she's just not getting this whole human's growing up from babies, and Kitty's like, short.
• 27:00
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, no, what are you, like, that's so rude.
• 27:03
  [SPEAKER_03]: But there's awesome.
• 27:04
  [SPEAKER_03]: The warpies are here.
• 27:06
[SPEAKER_03]: These are a bunch of kids that got super power.
• 27:08
[SPEAKER_03]: So there's like super powered babies all around it.
• 27:10
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, there's also an early moment.
• 27:11
[SPEAKER_03]: We didn't highlight where she's like, finds Kyla and like grieving in the cemetery for satinine.
• 27:16
[SPEAKER_03]: And she's like trying to understand grief and lipstick and making out and like the opera and like villainy.
• 27:23
[SPEAKER_03]: It's, the moments she gets are not a huge, but they're cute as she's adapting to life on earth.
• 27:29
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, she's she's learning a lot, but I thought like the the whole kiddie are you still a children like you were so small like what is wrong in that same issue, all the warpy babies get out they're all like weird little children that look like the escape from a Willy walk a factory and there's a little blue boy that's floating at series and goes how about how about she's like, oh, it's a
• 27:48
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what it means, but it's not good and then that's continued and like 64 is very much like Rachel centric issue.
• 27:55
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think so recently appears at all in the issue, but 65 is when we go back to cloud nine and they're trying to figure out this destabilization thing that's like supposed to take the powers from the workies or whatever and they realize that the kitty that's there is
• 28:10
[SPEAKER_00]: She's been replaced with a shape shifter for whatever they're like this is in kitty.
• 28:14
[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to get out just us.
• 28:15
[SPEAKER_00]: And I just think their distraction is hilarious because they basically look quick.
• 28:19
[SPEAKER_03]: We have to make out to distract them to end it works and the kids are like peaking at them as they like room closet door.
• 28:29
[SPEAKER_01]: Kids, so the kids are like uncomfortable being like, oh, and don't you're making out we should go.
• 28:35
[SPEAKER_03]: So Reese is making out in Microsoft like,
• 28:36
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, sorry, oh, oh, it's grace.
• 28:39
  [SPEAKER_03]: I'm sorry.
• 28:40
[SPEAKER_03]: I thought you desired physical interaction forgive me for toiling with your emotions, series.
• 28:44
[SPEAKER_03]: It was necessary for our cat.
• 28:46
[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, just again, cute moments as she doesn't understand.
• 28:50
[SPEAKER_01]: As someone who has some kind of warrior or something, she doesn't understand that we need to distract and like make the kids go away.
• 28:57
  [SPEAKER_01]: Kind of a thing.
• 28:58
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, it is very cute.
• 29:00
  [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
• 29:00
[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like, yes, she our stuff is usually like very straightforward.
• 29:04
[SPEAKER_00]: She doesn't get this whole like covert.
• 29:06
[SPEAKER_00]: We need to be sneaky thing.
• 29:07
  [SPEAKER_00]: Um, together.
• 29:08
[SPEAKER_03]: You know, when that's ready to return to action, he wants to leave series behind because she, like he doesn't want her in danger.
• 29:15
[SPEAKER_03]: And she says, you must take me, Kurt.
• 29:17
[SPEAKER_03]: I feel physical pain at the thought I've never seen you again.
• 29:19
[SPEAKER_03]: I've never known the fear of such emptiness.
• 29:22
[SPEAKER_03]: So this is her saying I love you.
• 29:23
[SPEAKER_03]: He says, I feel it too.
• 29:24
[SPEAKER_03]: That's why I cannot let you risk your life.
• 29:26
  [SPEAKER_03]: She
• 29:30
[SPEAKER_03]: our lives are a one.
• 29:31
[SPEAKER_03]: He says, I love you, Siries.
• 29:32
  [SPEAKER_03]: They kiss and teleport.
• 29:34
[SPEAKER_03]: So we're going to again, keep a keep a tap on the love story here.
• 29:37
  [SPEAKER_03]: It's very cute.
• 29:38
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, honest, and then 66 and 67, like 66 no Siries, and then 67, they're in the U.S.
• 29:47
  [SPEAKER_00]: They're Noah and they're fighting sentinals.
• 29:49
[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't really think a lot of things of consequence happened for Siries in particular, other than she's she's fighting sentinals.
• 29:55
[SPEAKER_03]: This is days of future past back and like the widget crazy, there's Phoenix crazy and widget crazy and warpy crazy and in the middle of all of this there's a blossoming relationship between series and that crawler no one has ever really taken time to like where did you come from or like why are you here?
• 30:13
[SPEAKER_03]: She's just in the middle of all the craziness and we only really see her interacting with Kurt.
• 30:18
[SPEAKER_03]: There's not a lot of key relationships outside of like superhero battles as a team.
• 30:22
  [SPEAKER_03]: And Mandy, I'm sorry.
• 30:23
[SPEAKER_03]: We can't talk about Tangerine.
• 30:24
  [SPEAKER_03]: I know you know.
• 30:31
[SPEAKER_01]: Tangerine is very like, oh my gosh, I'm scared in the final battle, and I don't know what to do, and Saris just looks there, just pick up a gun and die fighting, or just go ahead and die, like we don't have time.
• 30:41
[SPEAKER_01]: And it was very badass.
• 30:43
  [SPEAKER_01]: I freaking love it.
• 30:44
[SPEAKER_03]: She also gets to form like a big lattice of like energy around the group for a period of time, while they're in another giant sentinel battle, so the sentinel's are now familiar to her.
• 30:53
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, 67 ends with another gorgeous group shot, where Saris has like her arm around night crawler,
• 30:59
[SPEAKER_03]: Let's pause here for just a moment to talk about the Knight-Crawler Surrey's relationship.
• 31:03
[SPEAKER_03]: Knight-Crawler Prior to this has been seen basically only with the man-deceptin, and then he's like flirting with other people along the way.
• 31:10
[SPEAKER_03]: Later, he gets some other key relationships.
• 31:13
[SPEAKER_03]: One of them is Rachel Summers, which I know is deeply popular with X-Men fans.
• 31:19
[SPEAKER_03]: What are your thoughts on a certain night crawler?
• 31:22
  [SPEAKER_03]: Do these two work?
• 31:23
[SPEAKER_03]: What do we like about it?
• 31:24
[SPEAKER_03]: Let's go do that in Mandy.
• 31:26
[SPEAKER_00]: I like it as like a little like on and off playing like I don't see what there's very few characters where I'm like with the night crawler in particular where I'm like wow I really see them in a long term relationship like I don't see him having like a like a Scott and Jean type situation really anybody and especially not
• 31:45
[SPEAKER_00]: My problem with Amanda, I get that they're on biologically related, but if you're calling the same person mom, don't date, don't make out, don't do anything under that category, it's weird.
• 31:55
[SPEAKER_00]: And I know that was like a retcon because she was not originally like, she wasn't his sister the whole time, but now it's been, you know, pretty established that she's a sister, I'm done with the romance part of it.
• 32:04
[SPEAKER_00]: They can be bodies, they can be pals, they can be siblings, but please don't date.
• 32:08
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't actually really like them together.
• 32:11
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's fun, I really do, like, not to belabor the, like, big barter comparison, but it is very, like, sort of, Scott Frey, big barter where Knight Crowler's trying to teach this very warrior woman who doesn't understand the subtleties of life, like, to wear lipstick, to put on a pretty dress, to, like, make out, and I think it's cute.
• 32:35
[SPEAKER_01]: I think it fits with Knight Crowler, especially at this time, of, like, kind of
• 32:40
[SPEAKER_01]: Who he who he is on really who he always was is he is very swath he is very flirty I and I also like the fact that it's been immediate comfort because he knows that she's also an alien So she's not gonna be weird about the fact that he's blue and covered in velvet and he's like, oh There's this really hot alien woman who's like into me.
• 33:01
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm down like that sounds great
• 33:04
[SPEAKER_03]: I really liked it and I liked the fact that he's leaning in because this is like the big night crawlers the leader era and him being like I'm the leader I should get the girl and this is the girl I like it the visual of hers what sells her more than anything but I do like this relationship It does feel like though we need to give Suri something to do so let's have them make out But then we throw words like lit massage on there and she's taller than him and it's cute and she gets like a pretty color on the page And there's a lot of things that make you remember her visual
• 33:34
[SPEAKER_01]: it's the it's the bear shoulders it's the feathered hair like there's a lot about this character too love and also she balances out the colors of the team that they they're still fairly primary colors and so having her be this big shock of pink in the middle of the team I think also just works really well.
• 33:53
[SPEAKER_03]: So annual number one, Excalibur annual one, is also a big Surrey story.
• 33:57
[SPEAKER_03]: Right before her big final kind of crazy exit from the group, which we'll get to next.
• 34:02
[SPEAKER_03]: Surrey's introduced as the kind of emotional and narrative catalyst in this particular story.
• 34:07
[SPEAKER_03]: She's having recurring nightmares that are serving as like a genuine warning of interdimensional war.
• 34:13
[SPEAKER_03]: She insists the team investigate the source and she leads the Excalibur to Gath's Castle, GHATH.
• 34:20
[SPEAKER_03]: uh... she alone remains unconvinced there's a wizard and he's doing some shit they listen to a guy named chaos who's one of those guys from like marvell annuals introducing a new character every issue and here's chaos with a k uh... the anyway series ends up identifying like this guy gap is the real threat not the not the uh... like benevolent wizard he pretend to be and she puts herself in danger to expose him
• 34:43
[SPEAKER_03]: She fights alongside Excalibur and Chaos on a place called Earth, which is spelled I-R-T-H.
• 34:50
[SPEAKER_03]: In order to stop this evil wizard, and then she closes the story by apologizing to Chaos for doubting him and accepting the burden of his responsibility to restore peace.
• 34:59
[SPEAKER_03]: So she's got some warrior moral judgment kind of moments throughout this, and she gets to learn a lesson and have some cute
• 35:07
  [SPEAKER_03]: moment.
• 35:08
[SPEAKER_01]: If you would like to hear my deep dive comments about Excalibur No.
• 35:11
[SPEAKER_01]: 1, you can go to the X-Factor Investigations podcast with me, Darrell and Philip.
• 35:17
[SPEAKER_01]: Literally, only talking about this issue.
• 35:21
[SPEAKER_01]: I always thought it was very rude of this issue to have series in the bottom of the cover, when she's literally the main character.
• 35:30
[SPEAKER_01]: Like she's down here in between Captain Britain's legs, but this story is her.
• 35:36
[SPEAKER_01]: Anytime cool on Goth, it's so he's obviously like the alternate version of him every time I like him here is Connor Goldsmith going, oh, we need to get him cool on Goth, like that's all I could hear.
• 35:48
  [SPEAKER_01]: He's terrible.
• 35:50
[SPEAKER_01]: At the end of the day, I think they were trying to play into potentially something with series being interdimensional and her being connected in some way.
• 35:59
[SPEAKER_01]: And then like the next time we see her, they're like, you know what?
• 36:02
  [SPEAKER_01]: Never mind.
• 36:02
[SPEAKER_01]: We know we just kind of had this thing happen, but we're going to go in a different direction now.
• 36:07
  [SPEAKER_03]: It's not necessary.
• 36:08
[SPEAKER_03]: This is Evan Skalnik writing and I I read an article once Evan Skalnik based to this character off of like his Dungeons and Dragons character that he like grew up playing into the wall.
• 36:18
  [SPEAKER_03]: So it's like it's very d and d. It's fun.
• 36:21
  [SPEAKER_03]: It's fine.
• 36:21
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like no wonder it feels just like an edge lord nonsense.
• 36:27
[SPEAKER_01]: Julia loves an edge lord everybody.
• 36:30
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so e-mail guys, you need to know.
• 36:34
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, then we finally get the big series story.
• 36:36
[SPEAKER_03]: This is Scott libdell and surprisingly, Evan's gone like, and Dan Slot was on this.
• 36:41
[SPEAKER_03]: I was surprised to realize that what I went back to read this.
• 36:43
[SPEAKER_03]: Man, do you want to take the lead on this one?
• 36:45
  [SPEAKER_03]: This is the show.
• 36:46
  [SPEAKER_03]: I'll see you.
• 36:46
[SPEAKER_03]: That finally gives series a backstory as they ask throughout the title.
• 36:50
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's seriously one of, again, I have the floppays.
• 36:53
[SPEAKER_01]: It's one, it's, it is such a heartbreaking thing.
• 36:55
[SPEAKER_01]: And the thing is having the three writers, it then definitely makes sense why so many parts of the story feel disjointed.
• 37:04
[SPEAKER_01]: At the beginning of the story, they're coming fresh off of coming back from the days of future past.
• 37:10
  [SPEAKER_01]: People go missing,
• 37:12
  [SPEAKER_01]: stuff's going on.
• 37:13
[SPEAKER_01]: Kitty finds out that O'yana is very sick and needs to leave.
• 37:18
[SPEAKER_01]: So like all of these terrible things are happening and Surries is like hey, Nate Crowler.
• 37:22
[SPEAKER_03]: We have also but also Brian Braddock just disappeared.
• 37:25
  [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah
• 37:26
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so like Brandon's appeared, Megan goes catatonic in a waterfall, fair on then goes catatonic with her because he's terrible at his job.
• 37:34
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, listen to that other podcast for me to really rip on fair and about how awful he is at his job.
• 37:40
[SPEAKER_01]: Kyle is leaving because he wants to go, you know, meet his parents or whatever.
• 37:45
[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway, you know, all this stuff is going on in Sarisa's like, hey, Nick Kriller, we have it like fucked in a while, right?
• 37:53
[SPEAKER_01]: been 15 planet relationships and right who here hasn't been horny after 15 planet rotations I mean legit and and so like Kurt is like uh no I don't want to do this and she's like and she's like chiddle up whatever and and so so she leaves
• 38:10
[SPEAKER_03]: He's like, you don't even know how to grieve.
• 38:11
[SPEAKER_03]: And she's like, I fucking do know how to grieve.
• 38:12
[SPEAKER_03]: Fuck you and like walks out, which I love.
• 38:14
[SPEAKER_03]: He gets like a strong moment because she's got deep grief for about to fight.
• 38:17
  [SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
• 38:18
[SPEAKER_03]: So you please give me some commentary on the hot leather.
• 38:21
[SPEAKER_03]: Number of rates of wearing here from open.
• 38:23
[SPEAKER_01]: Rachel is wearing, so imagine storms, mohawk look.
• 38:28
[SPEAKER_01]: But with just a black bandoe instead of like a white tank top underneath.
• 38:33
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, that's legit what this is.
• 38:35
[SPEAKER_01]: It is just this studded black vest and black leather pants.
• 38:40
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like, Rachel, people are outside and can see you.
• 38:43
[SPEAKER_01]: What it's, what, what is this?
• 38:45
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, it's, it, also like Micromax is trying to like get everybody like signs of kind of waiver, whatever.
• 38:51
[SPEAKER_01]: And people are like, in a lot of time.
• 38:54
[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, it's this, this whole beginning of this issue is wild and also everyone just wearing gray and black,
• 39:03
  [SPEAKER_01]: very strange.
• 39:04
[SPEAKER_03]: And now the star gemers are here.
• 39:07
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah and so then all of a sudden the star gemers show up and and they're like we're we're here to arrest a fugitive from the Shia Empire series and they're like what are you talking about?
• 39:16
[SPEAKER_01]: Because at first they show up and Phoenix is like um why like you guys I'm we all know that I'm not James Gray and that I'm not like the Phoenix like it's not all about you Rachel it's not all about you and we're actually here
• 39:29
[SPEAKER_03]: There's a moment of the fight where Knight Crowler is fully straddling hepsaba and he has his tail wrapped around her tail and Julia and I feel like hepsaba is a very you character also.
• 39:40
  [SPEAKER_00]: I, she's also my love.
• 39:41
[SPEAKER_00]: My, I was a little confused when the star gamer showed up because most most of the time they're not cool with the she are they're like they're like a job is like that.
• 39:51
  [SPEAKER_03]: It's great.
• 39:54
[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm like, again, my head cannon is so lollonger is like, hey, uh, they're like, oh, we finally found so if in she are world, they finally find out, you know, there's this fugitive that they're trying to get oh, she's with this X men team, so lollonger's probably like we should probably give to the star chambers because I'll probably hand look better, they're just going and killing everybody and taking the fugitive.
• 40:18
[SPEAKER_03]: And uncommon realization, Corsair is Rachel's grandpa.
• 40:21
[SPEAKER_03]: So there's a fun fact that you don't think about very often.
• 40:24
[SPEAKER_01]: And no one talks about while they're here.
• 40:28
[SPEAKER_01]: There's literally no time to talk about it.
• 40:30
[SPEAKER_01]: There's literally no time to talk about it.
• 40:31
  [SPEAKER_03]: Which makes heaps of a Rachel's step-grandmother.
• 40:36
  [SPEAKER_01]: which is wild.
• 40:38
[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so obviously there's like the fight fight fight fight fight fight.
• 40:41
[SPEAKER_01]: Corsair identifies to Reese as a warrior of the Grand Jihar, a murderist, responsible for countless deaths in the Shiar perimeter.
• 40:49
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, wanting the fight to end, series puts on her battle armor and surrender to the Star of Chambers.
• 40:54
[SPEAKER_01]: She apologizes to Knight Crowler for deceiving him and then they take her away.
• 40:58
[SPEAKER_01]: Which I remember at the end of this issue being like,
• 41:04
  [SPEAKER_01]: What do you mean?
• 41:06
  [SPEAKER_01]: What do you mean?
• 41:06
[SPEAKER_01]: She's been a work criminal this whole time.
• 41:09
[SPEAKER_03]: The cover of 69 is series her boobs are boobing and she's carrying a dead dolphin baby.
• 41:15
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, the the poor dead dolphin people.
• 41:18
  [SPEAKER_01]: So we open with
• 41:20
[SPEAKER_01]: Surries in her full battle armor holding a dead dolphin baby and so it's so we find out that she is a part of this the grandjar is a whole like battle unit or whatever So there's all the other people
• 41:37
[SPEAKER_03]: They're on the planet of Consashi and like there's just like dead dolphin aliens everywhere and she's like is this the common good?
• 41:45
[SPEAKER_03]: Is this what I am?
• 41:46
[SPEAKER_03]: So she's supposed to be on an recruitment vessel, but like the commander is like unjustly committing genocide basically think of like the Vietnam like platoon and the orders are one thing But like the general goes nuts and's like kill everybody and he does not like series here
• 42:03
  [SPEAKER_03]: Hey, sir.
• 42:04
  [SPEAKER_03]: Hey, soldier.
• 42:04
[SPEAKER_03]: Sir, he says isn't it?
• 42:05
  [SPEAKER_03]: What are you doing?
• 42:06
  [SPEAKER_03]: Sitting?
• 42:06
[SPEAKER_03]: You think because this is your first assignment of board an recruitment vessel of the Grand Jaha You can slack off.
• 42:12
  [SPEAKER_03]: She says sir.
• 42:13
[SPEAKER_01]: It was my understanding that her ship was on a conversion mission that her goal was to recruit members of the other regions the Empire through enlightened
• 42:21
[SPEAKER_03]: Right, because this is the shear.
• 42:23
[SPEAKER_03]: They go to different planets and are like join us or will die.
• 42:26
[SPEAKER_03]: Like if you join us will that you have access to our stuff But we get all your shit and if you don't worry like they're colonial is it's terrible and you I love it your precious we're converting these savages to the way of the shear and I guarantee you that whoever survives will be only too happy to join And then he burns up another dead dolphin baby.
• 42:44
[SPEAKER_03]: Let me give you some advice.
• 42:45
[SPEAKER_03]: Don't get to attach to the natives You'll find it doesn't pay for the shear empire
• 42:50
[SPEAKER_03]: to perceive you as a useless.
• 42:52
  [SPEAKER_03]: She screams, no!
• 42:53
[SPEAKER_03]: Still a little weak need, eh?
• 42:55
[SPEAKER_03]: Being back aboard the encroachment ship fledgling.
• 42:58
[SPEAKER_03]: Now you're obviously not ready for this yet, but next time you better be.
• 43:02
[SPEAKER_03]: We come back to the present.
• 43:03
[SPEAKER_01]: So Reese's telling the story and the guard who looks like Bat Rock from Youngblood, which always struck, struck me as weird, tells her to shut up, kick the e-kicks during this containment unit, and she is in the thing with
• 43:20
[SPEAKER_03]: So they put her in a prison and everyone is living on this remote prison planet and green hoods and this devastated environment.
• 43:29
[SPEAKER_03]: And this is where she's like in a cave and meets cyan.
• 43:33
[SPEAKER_01]: So while that's going on, the Excalibur hitches on to the Star Jamership, they then are like, we don't really like what's going on right now.
• 43:44
[SPEAKER_01]: A corsair is petitioning La Landra who is wearing a
• 43:49
[SPEAKER_03]: Julia, do you want to tell us about one under a little golden number here?
• 43:53
  [SPEAKER_03]: It's everything.
• 43:54
[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like this year don't have casual outfits.
• 43:58
  [SPEAKER_00]: They really show.
• 43:59
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, well, I'll just put this on.
• 44:00
[SPEAKER_00]: This will be like super casual, right?
• 44:02
[SPEAKER_00]: And everyone's like, this, this, the net gala, like, can you calm down?
• 44:06
[SPEAKER_03]: This is the lander saying I wish you a Mary Phoenix, like she's.
• 44:11
[SPEAKER_01]: So Rachel and Kylen are down on the planet to try to rescue them.
• 44:17
[SPEAKER_03]: This person is called the Crag.
• 44:20
  [SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
• 44:20
[SPEAKER_01]: Also, there's a there's a fun little moment again, not about series, but where this other weird alien looks at Rachel and she's like, okay, but you're not Phoenix.
• 44:28
[SPEAKER_01]: You should stop wearing this costume, which is hilarious.
• 44:31
[SPEAKER_01]: So then the star jambers come down.
• 44:33
[SPEAKER_01]: Nightcrawler gets a fun little corsair backup costume, which is interesting.
• 44:37
[SPEAKER_03]: Think of this like American prison drama, where like the gang leader from one side is trying to take out the week one from the other side to like establish dominant.
• 44:44
[SPEAKER_03]: So there's this like wolf woman in gold named Fang who's trying to kill this like more helpless woman named cryan are cyanics excuse me and so series kills Fang in order to protect the other people and that's right when Excalibur lands.
• 44:56
[SPEAKER_03]: They already think she's bad and they see series like having just murdered a woman as they land.
• 45:01
[SPEAKER_01]: So so she kills another guy and then and then there's Fang who is wearing the Fang costume that we're all sort of like that that we all know and love from the imperial guard but this is a female version again fight fight fight fight fight fight so she kills Fang which is wild and then she stares and then when they show up a series you know crazy how dare you judge me
• 45:26
[SPEAKER_03]: The narration tells us in that color thinks of her as more like lady Macbeth in Snow White, which is a very weird read.
• 45:33
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, very strange.
• 45:35
[SPEAKER_01]: So, the Landrush shows up through science mind because science is an ancient race of oracles, and she's going to sort of get down to the bottom of it.
• 45:47
[SPEAKER_01]: So using Saiyan's powers, LaLandra forms a psionic web to show them the events of services crimes, and the recruitment ship, the evil guy's name's Siffen, or Kiffen, which Suryse says has madness that decides genocide on his brain.
• 46:04
[SPEAKER_01]: Suryse watches a billion aliens die, and she are firecruly, and she's the only one on the ship that seems to care.
• 46:11
[SPEAKER_01]: She knows what she must do,
• 46:12
[SPEAKER_01]: She can feel suspense, mad grin, following her every move, daring her to challenge his command.
• 46:19
[SPEAKER_01]: She would soon be wiping it off his face forever.
• 46:22
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, so Reese is like, Genoa, I failed the little dolphin people.
• 46:27
[SPEAKER_01]: and she would not do it again.
• 46:29
[SPEAKER_01]: So she gets in her, she gets in an escape pod and she times her departure for the last second while she puts the ship in a warp drive and puts it into the heart of a sun.
• 46:43
[SPEAKER_01]: So she just kills all those people on the ship while she uses out.
• 46:49
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, like this is a, again, a soldier turning against like the corrupt general who just killed a bunch of innocent people.
• 46:54
[SPEAKER_03]: Like she's killing a genocidal maniac in Lelandra who has to protect the secrets of the shiara and all costs is like assuming she's a war criminal without having learned the truth.
• 47:02
[SPEAKER_03]: But now, Lelandra who apparently has a heart sometimes has decided times that she's good before we wrap up this story.
• 47:08
[SPEAKER_03]: Do you think we tell us about the cover of issue 70 we get services bondage moment and her boobs are boobing again.
• 47:14
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's my favorite.
• 47:15
  [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's like cinematic.
• 47:18
[SPEAKER_00]: I think that the art style in particular is like I really like the detail on it, but it's all but it's her and her makeup as they do a lot.
• 47:26
[SPEAKER_00]: That's one of the main things that she does.
• 47:28
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that doesn't sound like that's happening, but it's not.
• 47:31
[SPEAKER_01]: So she's in her regular costume.
• 47:34
[SPEAKER_01]: And this is recreated in this issue, where she's wearing like the prison costume, which is in her regular costume, but she has a chain around her neck around her wrists and her ankles with chains connecting them.
• 47:46
[SPEAKER_01]: While Nightcrawler is leaning over her making out and wrapping his tail around her ponytail, and it's so hot.
• 47:53
[SPEAKER_03]: These chains are something like force it.
• 47:55
[SPEAKER_03]: It's like they put the chains and like the bindings and then like the feet are on the hands and they're like tighter, tighter, and her back just has to keep arching.
• 48:02
[SPEAKER_03]: Her boobs are gonna pop out of her force at any second.
• 48:05
[SPEAKER_03]: She's like, oh, and he's like, yes, now kiss you.
• 48:07
[SPEAKER_03]: Like, it's right, but also like, wow.
• 48:12
[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, such a good thing.
• 48:14
[SPEAKER_01]: So again, so then Suri says that she was headed for the nearest year outpost determined to make contact with La Landra and tell her about the atrocities being committed under this year name.
• 48:25
[SPEAKER_01]: I pray she knew nothing of the actions of her subordinates.
• 48:28
[SPEAKER_01]: I guarantee you La Landra did.
• 48:31
[SPEAKER_01]: My ship was thrown off course by a solar flare caused by an explosion of the recruitment vessel.
• 48:36
[SPEAKER_01]: I passed through a stargate and found myself within Earth Solar System close enough to teleport.
• 48:42
[SPEAKER_01]: I found my home with Excalibur, but I never lost my guilt.
• 48:45
[SPEAKER_01]: The loss of lives still haunts me, and I can never forgive myself for not finding another solution.
• 48:51
[SPEAKER_03]: Which is crazy, so Excalibur's been judging her this whole time, not giving her the benefit of the doubt.
• 48:55
[SPEAKER_03]: They did see her killer woman and get arrested for international crimes.
• 48:58
[SPEAKER_03]: But Sarisa's crying and crying and crying and these issues, they're just tears just rotting down her face over and over.
• 49:05
[SPEAKER_03]: LaLandra finally realizes like, oh, this guy was like a mass murderer, she says, you may have acted in good faith, but there are structures and formalities that have to be followed.
• 49:14
[SPEAKER_03]: Safe and with your commander, however wrong you felt his actions to be, they did not give you the right to act as Judge Jerry Edd executioner.
• 49:20
[SPEAKER_03]: We're all on that craft equally guilty.
• 49:22
[SPEAKER_03]: There are remedies, courts, and justice.
• 49:25
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm commanding you to serve out the rest of your life sentence at my side.
• 49:29
[SPEAKER_03]: Your rehabilitation will come through your actions by rooting out those factions among the Shearer, like Safen, who will use their authority to commit crimes.
• 49:36
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, remember this later for the Kim Crimson Conversation.
• 49:39
[SPEAKER_03]: We're gonna get there at the end, but she's recruited to serve at LaLandra's side to like root out evil people in the empire.
• 49:46
[SPEAKER_03]: This is very much to save face.
• 49:48
[SPEAKER_03]: I like LaLandra, but nope.
• 49:51
[SPEAKER_00]: If Surries was like, hey, this guy's not being good.
• 49:54
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think I all have that much faith in the she are just a system to take care of that guy like there.
• 50:00
  [SPEAKER_00]: I just don't know.
• 50:01
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how many tell us how it is.
• 50:04
  [SPEAKER_01]: She's so crying.
• 50:05
  [SPEAKER_01]: Surries touches Kurt's face.
• 50:06
  [SPEAKER_01]: Please don't speak.
• 50:07
  [SPEAKER_01]: Just listen.
• 50:08
[SPEAKER_01]: And I never thought I would find love such as yours.
• 50:10
[SPEAKER_01]: You are my salvation and you are my hope.
• 50:12
[SPEAKER_01]: She's still in shackles, and that color gives her one last lit massage, and she has teleported away.
• 50:18
[SPEAKER_01]: Only for them, my favorite issue of all time, you can hear me talk about it on Sarah Centrie's podcast, X-Helibre71.
• 50:26
[SPEAKER_01]: So pretty much this last, this storyline writes out the last of the Ellen Davis X-Helibre.
• 50:33
[SPEAKER_01]: And now we're going full into,
• 50:36
  [SPEAKER_01]: textbook only X characters.
• 50:39
[SPEAKER_01]: We don't want any more of this British nonsense.
• 50:41
[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, so go back to when you were reading this book at the time, were you a for healing sad?
• 50:47
[SPEAKER_03]: Were you going to reading about the current or just hard to remember?
• 50:51
[SPEAKER_01]: So I remember reading these issues and like actually crying at this entire run, because this is also, again, we at the same time were also dealing with Eliana being sick and dying, the legacy virus.
• 51:07
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, this was a very sad time in the Xbox in general.
• 51:12
[SPEAKER_01]: And then right after this, we get Eliana dying and then the whole like betrayal of Kitty and Colossus and Excalibur 71, like I was, and people wonder why I'm dramatic.
• 51:23
[SPEAKER_01]: I was literally 11 years old reading these books and being like, oh my God, everything's coming apart, everyone's so sad and people are being,
• 51:33
[SPEAKER_01]: Killed in people being sent to prison.
• 51:35
[SPEAKER_01]: I I was devastated because I sold I also love series So I was really sad to see her go.
• 51:41
  [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, Julia.
• 51:42
[SPEAKER_03]: What are your thoughts on this epic origin for series?
• 51:45
[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't you know, she didn't have any kind of story when she first came in so it was just kind of like waiting like hey When do we get to figure out what's what's going on with series?
• 51:53
[SPEAKER_00]: So I thought it was very interesting.
• 51:54
  [SPEAKER_00]: I do wish
• 51:55
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the ending of her being like, oh, you got to work for Le Landra.
• 51:59
[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of open because like after this, it's not like a sort of like she can still kind of do what she want to and extend.
• 52:07
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's definitely not like a life sentence thing like that like, Le Landra made it out to seem because going forward a little while or we'll get to like.
• 52:16
[SPEAKER_00]: So Reese is not just there to be like Le Landra's advisor, whatever.
• 52:20
[SPEAKER_03]: Right, and I don't think Lillander was ready like ordering war crimes, but Lillander was like, yeah, they already happened like just as for the Kansashi and dolphin people, right, but like it's only because series like in front of like earth's heroes and then this like moment on this planet, Lillander's like, oh, I can't leave her in jail or the expert are going to come out.
• 52:39
[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, why don't you come work for me again?
• 52:41
[SPEAKER_03]: There's a lot going on behind the scenes.
• 52:42
[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get to the Kim Crimson at the end.
• 52:44
  [SPEAKER_03]: But epic storytelling.
• 52:45
[SPEAKER_03]: Now, Star Jammer's number two, we very briefly see La Landra with a council of allies discussing a threat called the uncreated series is there.
• 52:53
[SPEAKER_03]: And then Ben Rab takes over the title in Excalibur 125, which is the final issue.
• 52:58
[SPEAKER_03]: It's the wedding of Captain Britain and Meghan.
• 53:00
  [SPEAKER_03]: Sereases there.
• 53:01
[SPEAKER_03]: It's an epic kind of gathering.
• 53:02
[SPEAKER_03]: I love most night crawler stories.
• 53:04
[SPEAKER_03]: This is a fucking night crawler moment.
• 53:06
  [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, Sarish shows up.
• 53:08
[SPEAKER_03]: Amanda Scepton is here and Amanda says, back off Tweety, the fuzzy elf is mine.
• 53:13
[SPEAKER_03]: And Sarish says, we'll see about that.
• 53:16
[SPEAKER_03]: Which, okay, so, Mandy, that's on this interchage.
• 53:20
[SPEAKER_01]: Just, first of all, Nightcrawler is great, but like, I don't like, I don't like painting women against women.
• 53:26
  [SPEAKER_01]: I think that's, I think it's dumb.
• 53:28
[SPEAKER_03]: I agree, but back off Tweety's pretty great.
• 53:32
[SPEAKER_03]: So then, series like goes to dance with Kurt.
• 53:34
[SPEAKER_03]: And remember, she like just got taken off into space to like, sort of sentence.
• 53:39
[SPEAKER_03]: So her words here actually matter.
• 53:41
[SPEAKER_03]: She's dancing with him and she says, have you not missed these stimulating lip massages we once enjoyed?
• 53:46
[SPEAKER_03]: Then why is it you never came for me?
• 53:48
[SPEAKER_03]: She's laughing across the face.
• 53:49
[SPEAKER_03]: But for the grace of Empress LaLandra, I would have been left to rot in some Alsebarian prison camp with the rest of the interstellar refuse, but you wouldn't have known because you never bothered to inquire about my fate.
• 54:00
  [SPEAKER_03]: Did you?
• 54:01
  [SPEAKER_03]: Some love you are.
• 54:03
[SPEAKER_03]: And Kurt's only thought is, women, barf, I hate this moment.
• 54:08
[SPEAKER_01]: It's supposed to be played up for laughs about how ridiculous women are, but no legitly.
• 54:14
[SPEAKER_01]: It also just points in the flaw of serial storytelling where it's like, you don't have time for these characters to really explore a real life situation where a cart, if he was really in love with her, would be checking in with like, hey, how's the series?
• 54:28
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what, what's she doing?
• 54:30
[SPEAKER_01]: And said, we just move on and he's got other stuff to deal with.
• 54:33
  [SPEAKER_01]: Again, I hate it.
• 54:34
  [SPEAKER_01]: I hate it.
• 54:35
[SPEAKER_03]: I am glad she spoke her mind though.
• 54:37
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, again, I don't, the beginning where she's just kind of like bickering with Amanda, I'm like, but like, who's the problem here?
• 54:45
[SPEAKER_00]: It's Kurt and she actually is like, hey, like, remember when we were like really close and we were hanging on all the time, we were like kissing a lot.
• 54:51
[SPEAKER_00]: And then I got arrested and I haven't heard from you for like several months.
• 54:55
  [SPEAKER_00]: What's that all about?
• 54:56
[SPEAKER_03]: Like, okay, we're going to jump forward.
• 54:58
  [SPEAKER_03]: Maximum security is happening.
• 55:00
[SPEAKER_03]: The very quick thing, there's an intergalactic council that has decided Earth is a problem,
• 55:07
[SPEAKER_03]: And they take all of the worst criminals in the, like, all their prisons and just dump them into earth, which is like, I don't know, like Trump sending all the criminals to Mexico or something.
• 55:16
  [SPEAKER_03]: It's like, it's a very uncomfortable story.
• 55:18
[SPEAKER_03]: Like, earth is going to be doomed.
• 55:29
[SPEAKER_03]: And the career here, because the supreme intelligence have transformed them evolutionarily into something called the rule or U-U-L, and Saris gets to transmit footage to the intergalactic council being like, oh, yeah, the rule are actually the career, and also they dumped Ego the living planet here, and he's gonna take over all of Earth.
• 55:47
[SPEAKER_03]: So, like, she's there to witness for LaLandra and like seek justice.
• 55:51
[SPEAKER_03]: And then she gets recalled back into space, but she gets to spend a little bit of time with Xavier and the mutant scrolls cadre K to go back to the she are.
• 56:01
[SPEAKER_03]: But during these times, she gets some appearances and some key titles.
• 56:04
[SPEAKER_03]: She shows up in X-Men 109, where she gets to like, she finds Nightcrawler performing at like Circus routine and is like, hey, we should fuck and he's like, no, I'm a priest now and she's like, what?
• 56:14
[SPEAKER_03]: You're giving up sex for God.
• 56:16
[SPEAKER_03]: But then later she also like it's to celebrate Christmas with the X-Men for just a moment.
• 56:20
[SPEAKER_03]: She's also an X-Men unlimited 29 where she shows up on Ellis Island with the X-Men bishops coming back from space where he's been fucking deathbird.
• 56:27
  [SPEAKER_03]: Don't worry about it.
• 56:28
[SPEAKER_03]: And like her status as a Shia agent makes her a liability in like the escalating interstellar conflict.
• 56:36
[SPEAKER_03]: So she chooses to withdraw because she doesn't want to be a spy or an enemy.
• 56:40
  [SPEAKER_03]: in the larger battle.
• 56:41
[SPEAKER_03]: She gets to say goodbye to Kurt and then just kind of slips away back into her space.
• 56:47
[SPEAKER_03]: Let's hear from Juliette and then Mandy.
• 56:48
[SPEAKER_03]: Do you have thoughts on the maximum security appearances of series?
• 56:52
[SPEAKER_00]: I just thought like when she comes back and she's like I guess she's forgiven her and she's like can we do that lip massage thing he's the one that's like you know taught her about romance and stuff so she's like one what is a priest and two like you're the one who showed me all of this and now you're telling me that I can't do it like what's wrong with you.
• 57:10
[SPEAKER_01]: In hindsight, it's also like Kurt, you also were never a priest.
• 57:14
[SPEAKER_01]: This is all just a church of humanity plot.
• 57:16
[SPEAKER_01]: So good job, I guess.
• 57:19
[SPEAKER_03]: We're gonna jump to annihilation very briefly.
• 57:22
[SPEAKER_03]: annihilation is the big space event.
• 57:24
[SPEAKER_03]: They're trying to make Marvel cosmic happen.
• 57:25
  [SPEAKER_03]: It's a pretty fun event.
• 57:26
  [SPEAKER_03]: There's a bunch of side series.
• 57:28
[SPEAKER_03]: One of them is the annihilation, Ronan series.
• 57:31
[SPEAKER_03]: Gamora is a playable character here.
• 57:33
[SPEAKER_03]: She's the most dangerous woman in the universe.
• 57:35
[SPEAKER_03]: And she's formed like a society of Amazonian women.
• 57:39
[SPEAKER_03]: unlike a really harsh craggy planet called God Fab Omega, where they have carved out a seat in Mount Varago, which is Varago looking up.
• 57:47
  [SPEAKER_03]: It's a name for a famous feminist thing.
• 57:49
[SPEAKER_03]: And there's a bunch of females who are living here as her like warriors.
• 57:53
[SPEAKER_03]: They call it, they're called her Grace's Nebula is here.
• 57:56
  [SPEAKER_03]: Stilaris is here.
• 57:58
[SPEAKER_03]: These are like the Superfeminist characters.
• 58:00
[SPEAKER_03]: A death metal tantanial spirit and series.
• 58:04
[SPEAKER_03]: And when the annihilation wave like hits the planet,
• 58:08
  [SPEAKER_03]: survive as a group.
• 58:09
[SPEAKER_03]: And they like interact with some other heroes.
• 58:11
  [SPEAKER_03]: It's fine.
• 58:12
  [SPEAKER_03]: Sarisa's part of this.
• 58:13
[SPEAKER_03]: It's kind of a weird fit for her, but I remember being happy that she showed up.
• 58:16
  [SPEAKER_01]: That's literally all I felt about.
• 58:18
[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, hey, at least Sarisa's on panel, and she doesn't die.
• 58:21
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I kind of liked her being like with more of the alien characters, because she's obviously, this year as a whole, very much like X-Men associated, but having her kind of branch out and have interactions with characters outside the
• 58:36
[SPEAKER_03]: I wish she'd gotten more moments, but yeah, it was fun to see her there.
• 58:39
[SPEAKER_03]: She's a usable character and there's a bunch of Marvel cosmic stuff happening through maximum security and annihilation where a bunch of old characters get to show up.
• 58:45
[SPEAKER_03]: Then we jump to Mr. and Mrs. X, which is Teresa's kind of last appearances, Rogan Gambit or married, Le Landre has been assassinated by the fraternity of raptors.
• 58:54
  [SPEAKER_03]: Don't worry about it.
• 58:55
[SPEAKER_03]: It's a crazy story in the War of Kings.
• 58:58
[SPEAKER_03]: Vulcan took over, she are for a while and fucked death bird and they have an egg baby someone out there that is never quite hatched.
• 59:05
[SPEAKER_03]: We don't know what happened to their weird egg baby but also the she are like to clone things.
• 59:11
[SPEAKER_03]: So there's like secret factions within the she are think of like the I don't know if you've seen game of thrones think about the different like people like trying to gain power.
• 59:18
[SPEAKER_03]: This is very the she are and the imperial night are like they excuse me the imperial regards are like the nights of the roundtable.
• 59:24
[SPEAKER_03]: So Sarisa's an agent focused on the Landra, and she learns that La Landra and Xavier's DNA has been combined to create their own egg babies.
• 59:32
[SPEAKER_03]: So there's an egg baby for them, there's an egg baby for Vulcan and Deathbird.
• 59:36
[SPEAKER_03]: This egg baby hatches to the Zandra, which is a combination of Xavier and La Landra, who's a delightful character.
• 59:42
[SPEAKER_03]: She's like a pre-teen telepathic bird lady, who's trying to run she our space and Deathbird's very loyal to her.
• 59:48
  [SPEAKER_03]: But in this, it's like a space-ficed on Rogan Gambit's honeymoon,
• 59:51
[SPEAKER_03]: where there's like a bunch of people trying to get this egg in.
• 59:54
[SPEAKER_03]: The dead pools here and gate crashers here and tech nets here and the star jammers are here.
• 59:59
[SPEAKER_03]: And eventually the egg hatches and she initially looks like Junior Miss Rogue and then she changes into like bird lady, baby, teen girl.
• 1:00:07
[SPEAKER_03]: And like, so Reese's loyal to Zandra, but more recently we've seen Zandra quite a bit with death bird at her side, not so Reese.
• 1:00:14
[SPEAKER_03]: We have to assume, so Reese has been sent off somewhere.
• 1:00:17
[SPEAKER_03]: I love the entire series of Mr. and Mrs. X.
• 1:00:19
  [SPEAKER_03]: It's incredible.
• 1:00:21
[SPEAKER_00]: I really like to I like that she was kind of like a like a maternal figure to her and that's very much been just transferred over to deathbird like but I can see that like I don't know because deathbirds going to be more of like the harsh like you know because you know she's deathbird but I can see like.
• 1:00:36
[SPEAKER_00]: I would like to see Cerece be part of like Zander's like council or something because she's the one in charge of the whole she are like empire now, but I really like the whole like she's like no, I'm going to protect this girl and they have a really cute like relationship and they've got some really nice moments and stuff like that where Cerece is like no, I'm like I'm going to protect you and I really like that.
• 1:00:57
[SPEAKER_01]: I just, again, I was, thank you, it's like, thank you so much for remembering that Surrey's success.
• 1:01:03
[SPEAKER_01]: She's a part of the, like, La Landra's story.
• 1:01:07
[SPEAKER_01]: And I love the fact that, like, she's being interested to, like, protect this baby.
• 1:01:12
[SPEAKER_01]: And again, I was, I was really happy when, when we found out that Surrey's was, was there.
• 1:01:17
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, now, if you've read Imperial Guard stories, this is where I'm gonna let my handbook nerd side show up and I'm just gonna toss a bunch at you all at once.
• 1:01:24
[SPEAKER_03]: Because this is why I really love this series.
• 1:01:26
[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get there in just a moment.
• 1:01:28
[SPEAKER_03]: If you read a bunch of she are stories, they're, well, let me comment briefly.
• 1:01:31
[SPEAKER_03]: Mr. and Mrs. X's series is kind of like the brand of Tarth character, a little bit, which is fun to realize.
• 1:01:37
[SPEAKER_03]: I like that read for her quite a bit, especially with her making out with that color, that right, like she's getting these like fun moments.
• 1:01:47
  [SPEAKER_03]: saying, and it's great.
• 1:01:48
[SPEAKER_03]: So okay, if you read a lot of share stories, it's very game of thrones.
• 1:01:52
[SPEAKER_03]: It's very like warring houses.
• 1:01:54
[SPEAKER_03]: And one of the very first share character we ever meet is Eric the Red.
• 1:01:58
[SPEAKER_03]: And then we meet other kind of red characters.
• 1:02:01
[SPEAKER_03]: We don't know what series's powers are.
• 1:02:03
[SPEAKER_03]: and there's kind of this red energy about her.
• 1:02:06
[SPEAKER_03]: So Steve Orlando, and I know this is a tough series for a lot of people to read, but during curricula's, we had Marotta's Broadway one, which everyone loves, and then we had Marotta's volume two, which is the series that like put tempo on the team and Doc can become Fang, and there's some really great moments.
• 1:02:21
[SPEAKER_03]: Ellie and I are a Kalini who I've met is lovely.
• 1:02:24
[SPEAKER_03]: And Steve Orlando's a good buddy of mine.
• 1:02:26
[SPEAKER_03]: They do a pretty dense series where Marotta is like a very dense read.
• 1:02:29
[SPEAKER_03]: That has a ton thrown at you.
• 1:02:32
[SPEAKER_03]: and it's very subtle reading and it takes a lot of time and there's a lot of time travel.
• 1:02:35
[SPEAKER_03]: So I know this is a series that frustrated a lot of people, but it's very smart.
• 1:02:39
[SPEAKER_03]: Steve Orlando is a good at weaving in continuity without trying to explain it.
• 1:02:42
[SPEAKER_03]: So he introduces a subgroup in the Shiar Empire.
• 1:02:46
[SPEAKER_03]: So the Shiar throne is constantly changing.
• 1:02:49
[SPEAKER_03]: We've seen it go from DeKen to LaLandra, to Deathbird, to Zandra,
• 1:02:53
[SPEAKER_03]: and whoever's on the throne, the Imperial Guard is fiercely loyal to at all costs.
• 1:02:58
[SPEAKER_03]: Now, if you've read the recent Imperial series by Jonathan Hickman, there's a couple of Shiar members of the Imperial Guard, most of them are aliens, but there's a guy named Electron on there and the Electron that's serving on the Imperial Guard is revealed to be like the illegitimate son of the decad who now has like a bid for the overthrow of the planet and he's like taken over the Shiar and like Xander's on the run,
• 1:03:19
[SPEAKER_03]: So there's like, there's a lot of crazy stuff.
• 1:03:20
[SPEAKER_03]: Magique, or magic is another character on the team who she are.
• 1:03:24
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, so the kin crimson is introduced in Steve Orlando's Marauder's volume two.
• 1:03:28
[SPEAKER_03]: As a shadowy order of the she are, who are dedicated to keeping what they call the 10 shames or basically a set of like very deep, shameful secrets forgotten.
• 1:03:38
[SPEAKER_03]: They're the shepherds of she are history and they're listed in some detail.
• 1:03:42
  [SPEAKER_03]: We have some
• 1:03:43
[SPEAKER_03]: knowledge of what they are and we have other knowledge that we don't know what they are at all.
• 1:03:47
[SPEAKER_03]: There's a lot of lore that's like explored here.
• 1:03:50
[SPEAKER_03]: One of the ten shames is what they call the hard skin.
• 1:03:53
[SPEAKER_03]: Do you remember the Debari that Jean Grey blew up?
• 1:03:56
  [SPEAKER_03]: There's a planet that's pretty boring.
• 1:03:58
  [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, the broccoli people.
• 1:04:00
[SPEAKER_03]: One of the planets of the Debarri, like the Shiar, took and they took some of their like sacred weapons, it's cultural appropriation, and they turned it into what they called the hard skin, which is like putting this power on people.
• 1:04:13
[SPEAKER_03]: So Surries is not seen in the series, but the hard skin is directly connected to her ability to like create light projections.
• 1:04:21
[SPEAKER_03]: And the kin crimson, if you'd listen to the color crimson, gives us like characters like Eric, the red,
• 1:04:27
[SPEAKER_03]: And there's a bunch of characters that are like the secret like hidden agents within the shiar.
• 1:04:32
[SPEAKER_03]: Some of them are pre-established characters like Delphosers, but the maraners have to kind of fare at these people out as they're like trying to protect the state secrets.
• 1:04:40
[SPEAKER_03]: So this like Ken Crimson leaves a ton of like open space for shiar like intrigue to explore.
• 1:04:47
[SPEAKER_03]: and Sarisa's origins seemed directly connected to this.
• 1:04:50
[SPEAKER_03]: So when we go back to her first line on the page where she talks about being like, I'm of the Jenna lineage of like, Cybrusky's, our stock and kooly car, whatever she said.
• 1:04:59
[SPEAKER_03]: I think there's some interesting things that we could explore with her connections to the deep she are.
• 1:05:03
[SPEAKER_03]: Even making her something like the illegitimate child of like the Shiar royal family would be really fascinating to me.
• 1:05:09
[SPEAKER_03]: So if we're reading her as Brianna of Tarth in the Game of Thrones series and she's the exiled Knight on the run, who then is brought back, there's some really interesting things to do with her in the Shia space itself.
• 1:05:20
[SPEAKER_03]: I know I just threw a bajillion things at you without explaining a ton of context, but what are your thoughts on this kind of idea of the Ken Crimson and their connections to series?
• 1:05:29
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, let's add, if someone would like to remember that that happened and someone would like to remember that Syreece is a is a character.
• 1:05:37
[SPEAKER_01]: I would love for that to happen.
• 1:05:42
  [SPEAKER_01]: I don't.
• 1:05:43
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't foresee that happening anytime soon in the comics, but I mean, any, and please, please bring Syreece into everything.
• 1:05:52
  [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, thanks.
• 1:05:53
[SPEAKER_03]: The hard skin, quote, is a hard-light technology, a gene therapy developed from the experiments on the natives of Debari III, which involved the creation of series.
• 1:06:05
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it'd be interesting, like I always like when they, you know, are able to incorporate existing things into new plots, and I think the connections are there.
• 1:06:14
[SPEAKER_00]: If they remember that series exists, that would be super cool.
• 1:06:19
  [SPEAKER_00]: in a couple years.
• 1:06:20
[SPEAKER_03]: So whenever we read from a character perspective, I love taking this journey.
• 1:06:23
[SPEAKER_03]: Surries has a lot of appearances, but not a lot of direct lore, right?
• 1:06:28
[SPEAKER_03]: She has some key connections to Nightcrawler and LaLandra and Zandra, primarily.
• 1:06:33
[SPEAKER_03]: Those are really her only deep relationships.
• 1:06:35
[SPEAKER_03]: But when we get into it, she came from somewhere, she got these powers, and then she's put on the Garhanger Haller as a
• 1:06:42
[SPEAKER_03]: this like, recruitment vessel sent out.
• 1:06:45
[SPEAKER_03]: We don't know exactly what her mission is.
• 1:06:47
[SPEAKER_03]: We know she can lie.
• 1:06:49
[SPEAKER_03]: We know that she has intrigue.
• 1:06:50
[SPEAKER_03]: We know that she can play innocent but also it's like a fucking badass superhero.
• 1:06:54
[SPEAKER_03]: She kills this military commander because he committed this genocide and then ends up at LaLandra's side.
• 1:07:00
[SPEAKER_03]: The Gamora's Grace is of it all as the part that doesn't fit the most.
• 1:07:03
  [SPEAKER_03]: But
• 1:07:04
[SPEAKER_03]: I think she has some really interesting potential and I feel like there's a huge layer to this character that we have not seen yet.
• 1:07:10
[SPEAKER_03]: It just takes the right writer to really bring out that depth.
• 1:07:14
[SPEAKER_03]: What are you love about this character?
• 1:07:16
[SPEAKER_03]: What do you need more of to make her more viable?
• 1:07:19
  [SPEAKER_01]: I just love her.
• 1:07:20
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, right now I would say she still is more of an aesthetic rather than a character like there's there's a lot of really fun visual things about her where she's been placed makes like she's like a utilitarian character in that way where it's like
• 1:07:37
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, doesn't the lander have the assistant?
• 1:07:39
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, who who is that?
• 1:07:40
[SPEAKER_01]: Like let me let me put her in the story.
• 1:07:42
[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like like a legit origin story would be interesting or having her show up in like, you know, the imperial stuff with with Xavier Isandra and LaLandra
• 1:07:53
[SPEAKER_01]: I think would be interesting having her be like, you know, loyal with them and then finding out like, you know, I guess more more about like, or having her be on a book consistently, where then like any good like comic or D&D campaign where you finally get a little bit of her backstory instead of just having her be the muscle or the utilitarian character would be that yeah.
• 1:08:19
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I would say like her visuals were obviously very striking.
• 1:08:22
[SPEAKER_00]: I find her design very interesting, even compared to other like she are characters like I feel like the only one that kind of compares is death word because she's got death word is like everything she's got the feathers in the cape and the wings the tubes would I feel like is a lot but then I look and I really like Teresa's color palette.
• 1:08:38
[SPEAKER_00]: I love like a red and a purple together.
• 1:08:40
[SPEAKER_00]: But also like personality-wise, I find her a little more interesting than a lot of the Shear characters, because a lot of times they're very like, you know, we're dealing with like Little Andre and to Ken and Deathbird who are like the royal family and they're it's very political Whereas I feel like Teresa is a little more fun, you know, like, I mean, in her introduction with Nightcrawler and stuff, like she gets to have like a fun cute little romance and stuff, like I just find her a little more fun than most of the other Shear characters.
• 1:09:07
[SPEAKER_01]: almost like a more fun gladiator because gladiator is like so engrossed and like duty have to do this like we can't we can't do that where she still has agency where she's like yeah I still have duty and a purpose but also if you fuck around I'm gonna kill you.
• 1:09:25
[SPEAKER_03]: I have produced hundreds of episodes of this show, but I've barely touched on the she are.
• 1:09:28
  [SPEAKER_03]: It's just not a space we've been a lot of time.
• 1:09:30
[SPEAKER_03]: I did a Patreon on night side once from the Imperial Guard where we had to talk about her.
• 1:09:35
[SPEAKER_03]: She's fun, but you know, there's a lot of the she are lower that I'm fascinated by.
• 1:09:39
[SPEAKER_03]: There's some really epic she are stories and I like when people delve in.
• 1:09:42
[SPEAKER_03]: Sometimes it's annoying the fraternity of raptors gets weird But I liked war of kings.
• 1:09:47
[SPEAKER_03]: I really liked the rise in the fall of the she are empire 12 issue arc that went on I liked the creche are war that happened that one time I like when we delve deep into the she are intrigued now It can get really weird really quickly, but I prefer to delve deep into it Rather than just have the imperial guard show up on earth for a fight or the star jambers pop in and out
• 1:10:07
[SPEAKER_03]: This is a planet that has slaves and conquered planets and genocides and all these like state secrets, but we mostly see them as like superheroes, like in a foreign game of their own kind of land, so Reese is a very key figure in that epic story if someone ever chose to tell it.
• 1:10:25
[SPEAKER_03]: I have a bajillion Professor X stories I would love to write.
• 1:10:28
[SPEAKER_03]: And any character is fun in the Shiar world.
• 1:10:30
[SPEAKER_03]: Put Jubilee in the Shiar, it's delicious.
• 1:10:32
[SPEAKER_03]: Put launch out in the Shiar, it's delicious.
• 1:10:34
[SPEAKER_03]: Put Cyclops and Gene up there.
• 1:10:35
  [SPEAKER_03]: It's wonderful.
• 1:10:36
[SPEAKER_03]: And there's so many pieces of all of this that I think could fit together like a big puzzle if the right writer got to tell the right story.
• 1:10:43
[SPEAKER_03]: So that's my favorite part of series.
• 1:10:45
[SPEAKER_03]: I like her relationship with Nightcrawler as well.
• 1:10:48
  [SPEAKER_03]: It isn't Nightcrawler month.
• 1:10:49
[SPEAKER_03]: We liked the two of them together.
• 1:10:51
[SPEAKER_03]: And outside of the man deceptin, she's my favorite girlfriend for him.
• 1:10:54
[SPEAKER_03]: Although I think they outgrew each other, I think it was a fleeing during that one time.
• 1:10:59
[SPEAKER_03]: And then, you know, he didn't check on her in space and then he was a priest, you know,
• 1:11:06
[SPEAKER_00]: Give me your ex-boyfriend becomes a priest.
• 1:11:12
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, do we have any kind of concluding thoughts on Cerise?
• 1:11:14
[SPEAKER_03]: It's the visual, it's the color scheme, it's a great character who I think has a ton of potential.
• 1:11:20
  [SPEAKER_03]: She's excellent.
• 1:11:21
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, just bring her back, put her in more space stuff.
• 1:11:23
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, I feel like there is a bit of a push for space stuff right now with Jonathan Hickman turning his eye over to the Imperial stuff.
• 1:11:34
[SPEAKER_01]: So it would be great if she got a little spotlight over there.
• 1:11:38
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
• 1:11:38
  [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I agree.
• 1:11:39
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's the with the foundations of her character with Zandra and how important Zander is right now.
• 1:11:45
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, what are back in there?
• 1:11:46
[SPEAKER_00]: If Zander's on the run, have her be like on the run with her.
• 1:11:49
[SPEAKER_00]: Have serious people tagging her.
• 1:11:51
  [SPEAKER_00]: Give me something.
• 1:11:52
[SPEAKER_03]: Something we offer get if you read the Marauder series.
• 1:11:54
[SPEAKER_03]: It's Cassandra Nova in GR space, which is Xavier's evil twin with the Zandra and LaLandra of it all.
• 1:12:01
[SPEAKER_03]: There's some fun stuff to play with.
• 1:12:03
[SPEAKER_03]: Give me Legion up there.
• 1:12:04
[SPEAKER_03]: Like the Summer's families connected
• 1:12:09
[SPEAKER_00]: I actually like them on popular opinion.
• 1:12:11
  [SPEAKER_00]: I like Adam X.
• 1:12:12
[SPEAKER_03]: There's some fun out of X, Laura as well, which is like this.
• 1:12:16
[SPEAKER_03]: She are royal family capturing a human woman and harvesting her unborn child and then like taking her DNA to create more children.
• 1:12:24
[SPEAKER_03]: Anthony Olavara recently gave us some Eric the Red Lore in Avengers Academy.
• 1:12:28
  [SPEAKER_03]: There's some fun things.
• 1:12:29
[SPEAKER_03]: I get to talk more about the Shia as we move forward, which is exciting, because there's a lot I have to say about this race.
• 1:12:34
[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's fertile ground for excellent storytelling.
• 1:12:40
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, we will wrap up here.
• 1:12:41
[SPEAKER_03]: I'd love to hear any final thoughts.
• 1:12:43
[SPEAKER_03]: Tell people where they can find you online.
• 1:12:44
[SPEAKER_03]: Anything you want to plug for January 2026.
• 1:12:48
[SPEAKER_03]: Speaking of fertile ground, let's go to Mandy Martinez first.
• 1:12:53
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my gosh, the final thoughts I love Syreece.
• 1:12:56
[SPEAKER_01]: I love talking about Syreece.
• 1:12:58
[SPEAKER_01]: I think she is wonderful.
• 1:13:00
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, I love her visual.
• 1:13:01
[SPEAKER_01]: I just need to get better wigs go so I can recreate that hair.
• 1:13:05
[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, you guys again can find me across the also Shimibia at Domina where Tini, DM, A and DA, Martini.
• 1:13:12
[SPEAKER_01]: If this is coming out in mid-January, we're starting up concesing strong with farpoint convention, which starts on January 30th.
• 1:13:22
[SPEAKER_01]: Again, I will be hosting another drag show to farpoint in beyond.
• 1:13:27
[SPEAKER_01]: time of recording, I'm still waiting for, I'm still waiting on my full, uh, like schedule.
• 1:13:32
[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know what panels have been approved, but we do have something really cool that should be happening.
• 1:13:38
[SPEAKER_01]: So fingers crossed that that, uh, panel gets approved, uh, again, hoping that happens.
• 1:13:43
[SPEAKER_01]: And then, the next thing is going to be awesome kind of merch as well as wondercon, uh, just continue to follow me on social media and find out where I will be.
• 1:13:52
  [SPEAKER_03]: Amanda, you're my favorite.
• 1:13:53
  [SPEAKER_03]: Love you very much.
• 1:13:53
  [SPEAKER_03]: Thanks for hanging out.
• 1:13:55
[SPEAKER_03]: And, uh, so all in the bar, I'm chanoff.
• 1:13:57
  [SPEAKER_03]: It's Juliette.
• 1:13:58
  [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
• 1:13:58
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, so, uh, you can find me.
• 1:14:00
[SPEAKER_03]: Let's fix these teleportation spell.
• 1:14:01
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
• 1:14:02
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
• 1:14:02
[SPEAKER_00]: That's the one spell that she does in case you didn't know on Instagram and TikTok.
• 1:14:06
  [SPEAKER_00]: And I Discord, I guess.
• 1:14:07
[SPEAKER_00]: This is the, I'm most active on the Twitter and TikTok.
• 1:14:10
[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, Ricky, so that's, are you okay?
• 1:14:11
  [SPEAKER_00]: I.
• 1:14:12
  [SPEAKER_00]: CLS.
• 1:14:14
[SPEAKER_00]: Surprisingly, I don't have any set in stone plans for cons.
• 1:14:18
[SPEAKER_00]: This is kind of like my slow season.
• 1:14:20
[SPEAKER_00]: I might be going to garden state comic a best or expo in January.
• 1:14:25
[SPEAKER_00]: That's in like North Jersey, but that's also up in the air to see.
• 1:14:29
[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I just usually keep an eye out for what's local and there's just not.
• 1:14:34
[SPEAKER_00]: Unfortunately not a lot in the greater Philadelphia expo during winter, but if there is a con in the area, I'll probably be there.
• 1:14:40
  [SPEAKER_00]: So.
• 1:14:41
[SPEAKER_03]: Making this show remains just a tremendous joy.
• 1:14:43
[SPEAKER_03]: What a delicious time hanging out with people today.
• 1:14:46
[SPEAKER_03]: This is a character that I love even more than I loved before.
• 1:14:49
[SPEAKER_03]: So it's how fun to have this time with you both.
• 1:14:51
[SPEAKER_03]: That crawling month has been wonderful to put together.
• 1:14:53
[SPEAKER_03]: So over on the main show, watch for the trial of Kurt Wagner at the end of the month, which I'm very excited about.
• 1:14:57
[SPEAKER_03]: And we're going to close the Patreon out this month with an episode about Margali Shardos.
• 1:15:01
[SPEAKER_03]: My dear friend, Emma Yadamura, is joining you for that.
• 1:15:04
[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to be wonderful.
• 1:15:05
[SPEAKER_03]: February on the show is going to be Voodoo themed, so it's also Black History Month.
• 1:15:09
[SPEAKER_03]: So we've got some really incredible featured talent and some really fun content coming your way.
• 1:15:14
[SPEAKER_03]: Follow the show at Grimalkon under score lane.
• 1:15:16
[SPEAKER_03]: Most prominently, thank you everybody for listening.
• 1:15:19
[SPEAKER_03]: Making the show is a light and a foundation space in this crazy, crazy world.
• 1:15:24
[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm always grateful to Nerdout with new friends.
• 1:15:27
  [SPEAKER_02]: Yay, Julia, it's a new friend.
• 1:15:28
[SPEAKER_03]: Hurray, so hop on to hang out with you guys.
• 1:15:31
  [SPEAKER_03]: Thanks everyone for listening.
• 1:15:32
[SPEAKER_03]: We will see you all back here.
• 1:15:33
[SPEAKER_03]: Next week on the Grimmalkin Lane Patreon channel.
• 1:15:36
[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, everybody, welcome back to Timmy Wine Me.
• 1:15:38
[SPEAKER_03]: But before I introduce my guest for today, I should explain I've already introduced him.
• 1:15:42
[SPEAKER_03]: Like, not earlier today, actually later tonight, which is how I know this introduction goes poorly.
• 1:15:47
[SPEAKER_03]: The first time gets better the second time and somehow ends with a clause that I have not yet.
• 1:15:50
[SPEAKER_03]: earned by all of you the third time because we're currently stuck in a time loop.
• 1:15:54
[SPEAKER_03]: It's a small one, a tasteful local time loop.
• 1:15:56
[SPEAKER_03]: I realized this one I started saying before I introduced tonight's guest through the third time and then felt an overwhelming sense of deja vu, which spoiler alert is still happening.
• 1:16:03
[SPEAKER_03]: So, learning from future me, I'll now skip the joke that didn't land, avoid the anecdote that caused visible concern and move directly to the part where I act like this was always the plan.
• 1:16:11
[SPEAKER_03]: So, ladies and gentlemen, all right, I've already said that.
• 1:16:13
[SPEAKER_03]: Please welcome Kevin Canary, who I will be introducing 30 seconds from now.
• 1:16:19
[SPEAKER_03]: Chad, we gotta go back to the future.
• 1:16:21
  [SPEAKER_03]: I thought I'd give us a little time.
• 1:16:23
[SPEAKER_03]: You win the time loop this morning.
• 1:16:25
[SPEAKER_03]: This is where Kevin's head starts to hurt everyone.
• 1:16:28
[SPEAKER_03]: I can see it happening before my very eyes.
• 1:16:31
[SPEAKER_03]: That's just my normal Irish redness of my skin.
• 1:16:34
[SPEAKER_02]: That's all, it's not, I'm not going to explode.
• 1:16:36
[SPEAKER_02]: We've been talking time travel for a while, you and I.
• 1:16:38
[SPEAKER_02]: Do you like a time loop?
• 1:16:39
[SPEAKER_02]: I love a time loop, honestly, and I know we're going to get into a paradox thing, so you know, later, but yeah, I think it's, I don't know, there's something fun about the idea of time in general.
• 1:16:51
[SPEAKER_02]: And so the us doing into this deep dive has been really fun for the brain to kind of go on all like things of what exactly is time and can you travel through time for real and what would you know, how do you measure time versus other things it's fascinating.
• 1:17:04
[SPEAKER_03]: So today we're gonna be jumping into the world of Avengers 69 through 71 from Volume 1 of course.
• 1:17:11
[SPEAKER_03]: We have been learning more and more about Kang.
• 1:17:12
[SPEAKER_03]: We recently met the growing man.
• 1:17:14
[SPEAKER_03]: We are still in 1969 and this is a Roy Thomas sub you shema story that we're jumping into.
• 1:17:21
  [SPEAKER_03]: man.
• 1:17:22
  [SPEAKER_02]: I am a growing man.
• 1:17:25
[SPEAKER_02]: I always love the return of the growing man.
• 1:17:28
  [SPEAKER_02]: It's always a good time.
• 1:17:29
[SPEAKER_03]: For our queer audience, the wink wink.
• 1:17:32
[SPEAKER_03]: Kevin, tell us about the uncanny growing man.
• 1:17:34
[SPEAKER_03]: Let's jump into this new time travel story.
• 1:17:36
[SPEAKER_03]: Where the upstairs costumes are getting gayer at
• 1:17:39
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god, this is like prime fun Avengers to me because it's like this is now Whatever the fifth time or something like that that Kang is encountered the Avengers, and it's a different team every time like slightly different And so this one opens up and we're now in that era where Hawkeye has decided he's not in an archer anymore, and he's like
• 1:17:55
[SPEAKER_02]: No, instead I'm going to wear a harness and grow really large.
• 1:17:57
[SPEAKER_02]: So he's still some of that man's formula and he's now galayeth.
• 1:18:01
[SPEAKER_02]: So you just have to know that.
• 1:18:02
[SPEAKER_02]: But then otherwise, vision is now here for the first time.
• 1:18:04
[SPEAKER_02]: So he's never encountered Kang.
• 1:18:06
[SPEAKER_02]: So we have a few new members if you different looks.
• 1:18:09
[SPEAKER_02]: And it's Roy Thomas kind of hidden his stride here.
• 1:18:12
[SPEAKER_02]: This is the first time we get a story where Kang is like a major force.
• 1:18:16
[SPEAKER_02]: And it goes over three issue arcs.
• 1:18:18
[SPEAKER_02]: We have a first second third act.
• 1:18:20
[SPEAKER_02]: And it's kind of a bigger deal, a bigger stakes than we've seen, even in the past with King over the world.
• 1:18:27
[SPEAKER_02]: This is, it now like, King kind of has moved up to like real archfilling kind of territory.
• 1:18:31
[SPEAKER_02]: So we have three issues.
• 1:18:33
  [SPEAKER_02]: It's a first-second-third act kind of story.
• 1:18:35
[SPEAKER_02]: So we have to, you know, set the scene.
• 1:18:36
[SPEAKER_02]: And how does it set?
• 1:18:37
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we're continuing from like the Avengers storyline where they've been where Tony Stark is in, like, you know, grave danger.
• 1:18:42
[SPEAKER_02]: He's had some kind of battle with the living laser, I think it is, and he's like in the hospital, maybe going to die.
• 1:18:47
[SPEAKER_02]: So all the Avengers are there around him being like,
• 1:18:50
[SPEAKER_02]: When Wasp finds a teeny doll under the dresser and goes, oh no, what's this?
• 1:18:54
[SPEAKER_02]: A little baby doll of my own, so of course she's like, it's glowing, let me grab it.
• 1:18:58
[SPEAKER_02]: And then she's like, oh, it's not really glowing that much, so she just throws it in the trash can.
• 1:19:01
[SPEAKER_03]: But Wasp loves a growing man too.
• 1:19:05
[SPEAKER_02]: But because she throws it so hard into the trash can, the growing man gets some physical kind of energy into him and starts to grow.
• 1:19:13
[SPEAKER_02]: Meanwhile, shield agents are protecting the body of Tony Stark and while he's trying to get better, the growing man attacks.
• 1:19:19
[SPEAKER_02]: We get a little nod to Thor who has encountered the growing man the only one on the team who has who brings us back to Thor 140, which we have covered here on the timing why we show.
• 1:19:28
[SPEAKER_02]: So he gives us the whole story of what growing man is and how he works and all that kind of fun stuff.
• 1:19:33
[SPEAKER_02]: But growing man's job is to get the body of Kang for his master, who's still Kang in this case.
• 1:19:37
[SPEAKER_02]: So you see him break out of the hospital, he's carrying the, you know, the body of Tony Stark and the Avengers have a big battle.
• 1:19:44
[SPEAKER_02]: We get an lame attempt, I would say, as Goliath tried to grow as big as the growing man does do very well, gets smacked out in one leg shot, so not much going on there.
• 1:19:53
[SPEAKER_03]: And then they get themed into space, same into space.
• 1:19:56
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, growing that shrink down gets beamed into space and the Avengers jump in with it, which is all part of the plan according to Kang, we get a double page spread here.
• 1:20:05
  [SPEAKER_03]: We sure do, okay.
• 1:20:06
[SPEAKER_03]: So you guys remember Ravanna, who's in her country little like one piece bikini with the cape and Kang has her on display in like a little cylinder up on a raised platform.
• 1:20:17
[SPEAKER_03]: Almost like she's like a display at the world's fair.
• 1:20:19
[SPEAKER_03]: There are armed guards with multicolored skin,
• 1:20:22
[SPEAKER_03]: uh and uh this the giantest like viewing room of like telescopes looking out into the cosmos uh Kevin has to tell us about Kang on the day as though this is oh my god so much drama always has a staircase leading up to a chair so like by the way I didn't know what it would this perhaps
• 1:20:39
[SPEAKER_02]: Brad was going to look like, but I was like he's going to be in a giant chair just lounging in it.
• 1:20:43
  [SPEAKER_02]: He is.
• 1:20:44
[SPEAKER_02]: He's doing his regular like kind of queer lounge in the in the chair.
• 1:20:47
[SPEAKER_02]: Top of the big day is a big staircase that it's like not attached almost like floating stairs that go up to him.
• 1:20:53
  [SPEAKER_02]: So it's really ridiculous.
• 1:20:55
[SPEAKER_02]: He has two big flaming like candles on either side of him.
• 1:20:58
  [SPEAKER_02]: They're like full brazers.
• 1:21:00
[SPEAKER_02]: Full brazers going out full full speed.
• 1:21:02
[SPEAKER_02]: And then if glowing little device that will come in later that's like a little like orb with three platforms on it.
• 1:21:08
[SPEAKER_02]: But he says, and I do love this.
• 1:21:09
[SPEAKER_02]: He goes, if you're all quite finished Avengers, I shall answer all you're inevitable in sippet questions, but I shall do it my own way, the way of Kang.
• 1:21:18
[SPEAKER_03]: We are back in purple and green, lounging in like an eagle-crested chair under a golden ceiling lit by flame.
• 1:21:26
[SPEAKER_03]: And he is only the only person in the room almost as high as him as Ravada.
• 1:21:30
[SPEAKER_03]: He's just a little higher than her.
• 1:21:34
[SPEAKER_02]: So, Kang is extra as always, and so they, of course, try to attack and make a quick work of all of Kang's guards.
• 1:21:41
[SPEAKER_02]: So, Kang's like, oh, no, no, no, so I'm so sorry.
• 1:21:43
[SPEAKER_02]: I should really tell you what's going on, because Black Panther shows up.
• 1:21:46
[SPEAKER_02]: So, now, at this point, Black Panther has not been part of the Avengers.
• 1:21:49
[SPEAKER_02]: He's not there with them, and so he just magically shows up in this thrown room.
• 1:21:53
[SPEAKER_02]: And they're like, wait, what's going on?
• 1:21:54
[SPEAKER_02]: Black Panther, of course, has to do the whole dramatic.
• 1:21:56
[SPEAKER_02]: You must listen and do whatever Kang says for the fate of the world.
• 1:22:00
[SPEAKER_02]: So then they're like, okay, we'll settle down.
• 1:22:02
[SPEAKER_02]: And then Kang tells a story.
• 1:22:04
[SPEAKER_02]: And it's pretty spectacular for a lot of reasons.
• 1:22:07
[SPEAKER_02]: One, it's pretty epic, but two.
• 1:22:08
[SPEAKER_02]: It introduces the first appearance of Grand Master.
• 1:22:12
[SPEAKER_03]: the elder of the universe who's obsessed with playing games and like wants to win and he likes love cosmic stakes that will end the universe.
• 1:22:20
[SPEAKER_03]: This man comes back and get it again.
• 1:22:22
[SPEAKER_03]: We'll do a trial of him someday on my show.
• 1:22:24
[SPEAKER_03]: We have to give Kings a little speech though as he's looking at the picture of Ravana on giant size.
• 1:22:29
  [SPEAKER_03]: Ravana, my beloved.
• 1:22:30
[SPEAKER_03]: My throne is a hollow mockery as long as you stare outward with eyes that do not see if only the power of life and death were mine.
• 1:22:38
  [SPEAKER_02]: I love it.
• 1:22:40
  [SPEAKER_02]: He's so extra.
• 1:22:41
  [SPEAKER_02]: Now, here's the thing.
• 1:22:42
[SPEAKER_02]: The grandmaster in this looks almost exactly like one of the little guardians from Green Lantern Like I think they would have been around the same time because they're blue skinned with the little like kind of pointy hair cut on either side with it
• 1:22:55
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, but except seeing a lot in comics, this is like whoever the barber is does this like same style a lot And he's in a very high-collar gold little like outfit.
• 1:23:03
[SPEAKER_02]: So very much of that 60 sci-fi alien that we've seen around So he shows up and basically tells Kang I I can you know control life and death So I can do something for you if you want to play a game and Kang is like like
• 1:23:14
[SPEAKER_02]: I love Revona so much.
• 1:23:16
[SPEAKER_02]: I must bring her back.
• 1:23:17
[SPEAKER_02]: She's in this weird comb.
• 1:23:18
  [SPEAKER_02]: I can't get her out of.
• 1:23:19
[SPEAKER_02]: I will do whatever it is.
• 1:23:20
  [SPEAKER_02]: Let's play a game.
• 1:23:21
[SPEAKER_02]: And the stakes are the fate of the world.
• 1:23:23
[SPEAKER_02]: So basically Earth, but I think it's supposed to be Earth in the 4,000 century, but they never really get specific about what Earth is going to be ruined, but in general, everybody decides the Earth is worth saving, um, suckers.
• 1:23:34
[SPEAKER_02]: And so they decide that that's what they're going to do.
• 1:23:37
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and there is some rules that Kang has been given, and the grandmaster says I'll be back.
• 1:23:41
[SPEAKER_02]: And so he basically says to the Avengers, that's what this is.
• 1:23:45
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a game for the fate of the world.
• 1:23:46
[SPEAKER_03]: So they're playing like live chess.
• 1:23:48
[SPEAKER_03]: They both could to choose some operatives to have a smash him up.
• 1:23:50
[SPEAKER_03]: And we get the first appearance, not a not only of the grandmaster, but of the squadron's sinister, and he Hyperion's wearing the kunties little high-waisted panties.
• 1:24:00
[SPEAKER_03]: They are so tight, but it also kind of looks like a diaper, so it's like sort of awkward with how it's cut.
• 1:24:06
[SPEAKER_02]: And then we get Nighthawk and Dr.
• 1:24:07
  [SPEAKER_02]: Spectrum and Wizards.
• 1:24:08
[SPEAKER_02]: We get four of the squadron supreme later, but we get them to start with.
• 1:24:12
[SPEAKER_02]: So they have been manipulated from the Grandmaster who has played with time.
• 1:24:18
[SPEAKER_02]: This is where it starts getting a little time you want me.
• 1:24:20
[SPEAKER_02]: He's in theory altered some multiversal things to create these four supervillains slash heroes so that they could be against the Avengers because he assumed the Kang would get the Avengers.
• 1:24:31
[SPEAKER_03]: 70 opens with Kang throwing a fist throwing a fit.
• 1:24:34
[SPEAKER_03]: There's been a feast prepared for him and he's just smashing the table.
• 1:24:36
  [SPEAKER_03]: Like, I don't eat!
• 1:24:38
[SPEAKER_03]: God, take away this tasteless thought of this meaningless repost.
• 1:24:41
[SPEAKER_03]: It is the battle that I must now think, not a food.
• 1:24:45
[SPEAKER_03]: Thus speaks Kang, the Gonga.
• 1:24:47
[SPEAKER_02]: that is a spread, and it is a good way to start and then get us going.
• 1:24:52
  [SPEAKER_03]: So let's love a spread.
• 1:24:53
[SPEAKER_02]: This entire issue is more or less second act and so it's the battle, basically the first to the battles where each of the Avengers is then paired off with one of the squadron to kind of fight over at very specific monuments around the world.
• 1:25:08
[SPEAKER_03]: We speak liberty, big bend, the sphinx, and the Taj Mahal.
• 1:25:13
[SPEAKER_02]: And assuming that the squadron is going to destroy them or steal them or something and so the Avengers trying to stop steal them because it's not just a fight till like knock somebody out.
• 1:25:20
[SPEAKER_02]: It's more like take the the item somewhere maybe.
• 1:25:23
[SPEAKER_02]: So we have Captain America versus Batman.
• 1:25:26
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, Nighthawk at the Statue of Liberty.
• 1:25:29
[SPEAKER_02]: It's very convenient to that they get paired up with the person that their powers are most alike because otherwise, some of these battles would have been a little unfair.
• 1:25:36
[SPEAKER_02]: We've got Iron Man versus Green Lantern.
• 1:25:38
  [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Dr.
• 1:25:38
  [SPEAKER_02]: Spectrum.
• 1:25:41
[SPEAKER_02]: And then we have the or versus Superman.
• 1:25:44
  [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, Hyperion.
• 1:25:45
  [SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
• 1:25:45
[SPEAKER_02]: And then we finally get The Black Knight Black Knight.
• 1:25:49
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, no, it's it's it's like it's high versus the Zero or the I mean the flash.
• 1:25:53
  [SPEAKER_03]: I mean the wizard.
• 1:25:54
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a lot of people with fake names.
• 1:25:56
[SPEAKER_02]: So that's the big things.
• 1:25:57
[SPEAKER_02]: So they all fight and basically the Avengers start winning these the first three battles, but it's the final battle that it becomes the like contentious one at the end of the issue, where
• 1:26:05
[SPEAKER_02]: Goliath is fighting wizard not doing great but not doing terrible and the black night shows up because they're in England at Big Ben.
• 1:26:12
[SPEAKER_02]: And so the black night comes out and nowhere on his horse and he's like, hey, what's going on?
• 1:26:15
  [SPEAKER_02]: Stop this.
• 1:26:16
[SPEAKER_02]: So he kind of interferes and then we get a little bit of a problem where Goliath takes black night's sword.
• 1:26:23
[SPEAKER_02]: The black night got involved.
• 1:26:24
[SPEAKER_02]: So Grandmaster comes down and says, no, envoy, this battles over doesn't count.
• 1:26:28
[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to the next round and like sucks them all away with black night sitting there without a sword and being like,
• 1:26:34
[SPEAKER_03]: We open the next issue on Kang still staring at Ravana cause the day that I accepted the fatal challenge of the Grandmaster.
• 1:26:41
[SPEAKER_03]: I would never have done it never, but for the love of the beautiest Ravana.
• 1:26:45
[SPEAKER_03]: For months she has stood like this, not dead yet strangely, not alive.
• 1:26:49
[SPEAKER_03]: Can any blame me if I would risk a planet's history to see her draw another breath, can any blame Kang, the conqueror?
• 1:26:56
[SPEAKER_03]: Because he is also a man.
• 1:26:59
[SPEAKER_03]: Now my theory is Ravana's really awake, but whenever he comes in the room she just pretends to be asleep.
• 1:27:04
[SPEAKER_02]: I totally get that 1950s housewife vibe from her.
• 1:27:06
  [SPEAKER_02]: She's totally doing that.
• 1:27:08
[SPEAKER_02]: So instead we have Black, a night give us a recap of what's going on because he's doing a little spell with his ancestors to be like, what happened?
• 1:27:16
[SPEAKER_02]: I have to get back there and his ancestors like, you know what, you're tied to your sword if you just call your sword, you'll get sucked into the future.
• 1:27:22
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know how that works, but magic.
• 1:27:24
[SPEAKER_02]: So meanwhile, the next round of battles has to happen.
• 1:27:27
[SPEAKER_02]: And so we have the other Avengers who haven't fought yet.
• 1:27:33
[SPEAKER_02]: and they are paired up against surprise surprise.
• 1:27:37
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, really called the young allies know what were the invaders.
• 1:27:40
[SPEAKER_02]: The invaders, they were the invaders, they were the invaders.
• 1:27:42
[SPEAKER_02]: So we have name more Captain America.
• 1:27:44
[SPEAKER_02]: Still assumed to be the same Captain America just before he knew the Avengers and the original human torch.
• 1:27:49
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, isn't the original human-torch body the vision?
• 1:27:52
  [SPEAKER_02]: Aren't they the same?
• 1:27:52
  [SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
• 1:27:53
[SPEAKER_02]: But they don't mention that in this issue.
• 1:27:54
[SPEAKER_02]: Do they not, is that not been revealed yet or known?
• 1:27:57
[SPEAKER_03]: It has not been revealed yet.
• 1:27:58
  [SPEAKER_03]: Vision's a big new character here.
• 1:28:00
[SPEAKER_03]: He's been around like less than a year at this point, basically.
• 1:28:02
[SPEAKER_02]: Because it's kind of fascinating when I sold him funny and like, oh my god, he's going to notice it's his body.
• 1:28:06
[SPEAKER_03]: And we have to get yellow jacket versus submariner.
• 1:28:09
[SPEAKER_03]: And yellow jacket's big power move is like to summon some yellow jackets to sting the submariner.
• 1:28:14
  [SPEAKER_03]: Erg!
• 1:28:14
[SPEAKER_02]: A lot, a lot of it's literally my hybrid hide.
• 1:28:18
[SPEAKER_02]: It makes no sense that yellow jacket won that battle.
• 1:28:21
  [SPEAKER_02]: I don't understand that one.
• 1:28:23
[SPEAKER_02]: They have a whole new battle.
• 1:28:25
[SPEAKER_02]: In this case, you know, it goes on for a bit.
• 1:28:27
[SPEAKER_02]: Black Knight shows up, and he kind of releases them.
• 1:28:30
  [SPEAKER_02]: And then there's a big battle.
• 1:28:31
[SPEAKER_02]: Long story short, Kang and the Grandmaster have to have a little like, you know, kind of come to have like, who won, who didn't win?
• 1:28:38
  [SPEAKER_02]: Well,
• 1:28:38
[SPEAKER_02]: you only kind of partially won the grandmaster gets a little rules lawyer here and he's like you can have either the power of life or death you cannot have both because kanks plan was to bring Revona back and kill the Avengers.
• 1:28:49
[SPEAKER_02]: So he has to pick one or the other.
• 1:28:50
[SPEAKER_02]: So what does he do, Chad?
• 1:28:52
  [SPEAKER_02]: That's a hard decision.
• 1:28:53
[SPEAKER_03]: It chooses death for the Avengers.
• 1:28:55
[SPEAKER_03]: bring back Revona under my own pile up.
• 1:28:57
[SPEAKER_03]: But for now, let me clearly avenge us.
• 1:28:59
[SPEAKER_03]: And so he has some big power blasty moments.
• 1:29:02
[SPEAKER_03]: There's some moments where he like it's to raise his hands.
• 1:29:04
  [SPEAKER_03]: It's like very witchy.
• 1:29:05
[SPEAKER_03]: There's like lightning blasts emanating.
• 1:29:07
[SPEAKER_03]: He's very reader repulsive from the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in this to me.
• 1:29:12
[SPEAKER_02]: and then he slowly sucks the life out of all the Avengers but Black Knight is not an Avenger and so again the rules lairness of it all comes into play and Black Knight is able to defeat Kang because he is not one of the Avengers and so his power of death does not affect him.
• 1:29:26
  [SPEAKER_03]: This is excellent comics.
• 1:29:28
[SPEAKER_03]: I love it so very much.
• 1:29:29
[SPEAKER_03]: I want to talk about it, but let's talk about our movie very quickly.
• 1:29:32
[SPEAKER_03]: Am I skipping over anything?
• 1:29:33
  [SPEAKER_03]: No, it's, that's, that's a big finale.
• 1:29:35
  [SPEAKER_03]: There you go.
• 1:29:35
  [SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
• 1:29:36
[SPEAKER_03]: So we're going to, we're going to talk about both, but the movie we're reviewing this week comes out on 1964.
• 1:29:41
[SPEAKER_03]: This is called the Time Travelers.
• 1:29:43
[SPEAKER_03]: And this movie is directed by Ibb Ibb Melchier, who is also the director of the Angry Red Planet from 1959, which is another super famous sci-fi film.
• 1:29:51
[SPEAKER_03]: This film is good, it's crazy, it's very camp and it's very low budget and you can tell.
• 1:29:56
[SPEAKER_03]: So basically, this is a 1964 American science fiction film, it follows a group of scientists and a power plant technician who are experimenting with a high energy time viewing device in a university lab, but an electrical overload turns their viewing screen into a portal.
• 1:30:12
  [SPEAKER_03]: It's so stupid.
• 1:30:13
[SPEAKER_03]: they're looking at the screen and someone's like, wait a minute, that's not a screen anymore.
• 1:30:17
[SPEAKER_03]: We're looking at the actual, like, would they not sense the atmosphere?
• 1:30:20
[SPEAKER_03]: Were there not be air blowing in?
• 1:30:21
[SPEAKER_02]: It's still in our future.
• 1:30:23
  [SPEAKER_02]: There's no air.
• 1:30:24
[SPEAKER_03]: They step through and they find themselves in the year 271 and there's these little weird mutate guys who are just mutated humans.
• 1:30:31
[SPEAKER_03]: It's the more locks all over again.
• 1:30:33
[SPEAKER_03]: It's the lower cast of society who's
• 1:30:35
[SPEAKER_03]: are over there, and Earth has been devastated by nuclear wars, so we're back to like warning you about the Cold War again.
• 1:30:41
[SPEAKER_03]: They encounter hostile mutants on the planet and an underground community of survivors underneath living in caves who have plenty of supplies, but they're like we're the rich, pretty white people, so we need to let everyone else out there die while we build
• 1:30:59
[SPEAKER_03]: So their job is to help them rebuild the portal in the ship.
• 1:31:03
[SPEAKER_03]: This movie cannot decide what it wants to be.
• 1:31:05
[SPEAKER_03]: There are horror androids, they're freaky little creatures.
• 1:31:09
  [SPEAKER_03]: There's weird romance stuff.
• 1:31:11
  [SPEAKER_03]: There's weird humor stuff.
• 1:31:12
[SPEAKER_03]: There's a whole scene where a guy is like getting teased by a robot hand.
• 1:31:16
[SPEAKER_02]: Then I love that scene so much.
• 1:31:19
[SPEAKER_02]: I will not have one word set against it.
• 1:31:21
[SPEAKER_03]: And then we go crazy, sci-fi, because what ends up happening is they over calibrate and they like age themselves up and go a hundred thousand years into the future and get trapped in a time loop.
• 1:31:33
[SPEAKER_03]: And the movie ends basically with them just reliving experiences at faster, in fact, faster speed, is it like whirls around and then like spins off into nothing.
• 1:31:42
[SPEAKER_03]: these people get stuck, they witnessed their own past, get propelled into the future, and then live at Nazium as they're aging at rapid speed.
• 1:31:50
[SPEAKER_03]: It's really fun, it's very post-apocalyptic, but this time it's like facing the consequences of destruction and then getting stuck in like this time travel paradox time loop thing.
• 1:32:01
[SPEAKER_03]: This was basically not super
• 1:32:04
  [SPEAKER_03]: you know, it's a B movie for sure.
• 1:32:05
[SPEAKER_03]: It was not super well received at the time, but it has been on places like Mystery Science Theater 3000.
• 1:32:11
  [SPEAKER_03]: It's a camp time travel film.
• 1:32:13
  [SPEAKER_03]: It's really fun.
• 1:32:14
[SPEAKER_03]: Let's talk about the film first and then go back to apply this to the Avengers.
• 1:32:18
[SPEAKER_03]: Kevin, how are we doing with this film?
• 1:32:20
[SPEAKER_03]: How did you like it?
• 1:32:21
  [SPEAKER_02]: I loved this film.
• 1:32:23
[SPEAKER_02]: I can't believe you're saying such horrible things about it is amazing, everyone should watch it.
• 1:32:27
[SPEAKER_02]: I must have known it from something.
• 1:32:28
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if I ever watched it fully before, but I knew about the time window thing and then stepping through it.
• 1:32:33
[SPEAKER_02]: So the fun thing about this movie, it's a very beat level movie, but I think it handles some of the space stuff better than some of the other movies we've watched because they got a magician in to help them with the special effects.
• 1:32:43
[SPEAKER_02]: Now maybe too much where they're like focusing on magician special effects in this movie, but there's a moment where they take a head off an android that's kind of awesome.
• 1:32:51
[SPEAKER_02]: They flip somebody around in a teleporter thing and he disappears.
• 1:32:54
[SPEAKER_02]: It's very magic show, but I loved it.
• 1:32:56
[SPEAKER_03]: But it's very upper cast white people like being with the savages again.
• 1:33:00
[SPEAKER_03]: And I feel like I don't know everything I see from before 1990 is just that theme over.
• 1:33:05
[SPEAKER_02]: It is the exact same thing.
• 1:33:07
[SPEAKER_02]: There's even one of the wealthy future people who hates the new people who've come in.
• 1:33:12
[SPEAKER_02]: This way, though, they give them a good reason.
• 1:33:13
[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, well, there's only so much food on the rocket ship to get out of there.
• 1:33:16
[SPEAKER_02]: So they can't have more people.
• 1:33:18
[SPEAKER_02]: So at least he has more motivation than some of the people in the past.
• 1:33:21
[SPEAKER_02]: And I do think the acting's better in this one than some of the others.
• 1:33:24
[SPEAKER_02]: But it's still a little cheese ball.
• 1:33:26
[SPEAKER_02]: And I do love this terrifying.
• 1:33:29
[SPEAKER_02]: They're ready to get out.
• 1:33:30
[SPEAKER_02]: And they're like, the mutates kind of attack them.
• 1:33:32
[SPEAKER_02]: And they're like, get on the ship.
• 1:33:35
[SPEAKER_02]: And then they see on the screen the ship just gets exploded and falls and crashes and all their hopes and dreams.
• 1:33:40
  [SPEAKER_02]: Let's just like gone.
• 1:33:41
  [SPEAKER_02]: It's actually really heartbreaking.
• 1:33:43
  [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
• 1:33:43
  [SPEAKER_03]: It's a fun film.
• 1:33:44
[SPEAKER_03]: I would love to watch this in a theater full of people.
• 1:33:46
[SPEAKER_03]: Like, you know, with a beer in my hand.
• 1:33:49
[SPEAKER_03]: I just like laughing my ass off at how silly it is.
• 1:33:52
[SPEAKER_03]: Now we go back to this epic Avengers story where we have a kind of man outside of time.
• 1:33:57
  [SPEAKER_03]: Right?
• 1:33:59
[SPEAKER_03]: could pluck Ravana from another timeline.
• 1:34:01
[SPEAKER_03]: Kang can go back to the moment before Ravana is defeated and pull her out, perhaps the different Kang does.
• 1:34:07
[SPEAKER_03]: This one just keeps her in a display case, like she's a pretty pretty doll.
• 1:34:11
[SPEAKER_03]: It's the one thing he was never able to conquer her heart, but instead he's dealing with elder gods.
• 1:34:17
[SPEAKER_03]: cosmic wagers, and then just get so horny for wanting to destroy the Avengers anyway, as he's waxing Shakespearean.
• 1:34:24
[SPEAKER_03]: Really fun, I love the Kang the Conqueror in the story very much, and of course the squadron sinister is ridiculous, and I am amazing.
• 1:34:32
[SPEAKER_02]: And who knows how talented or smart Kang actually is?
• 1:34:35
[SPEAKER_02]: We still can't tell yet.
• 1:34:36
[SPEAKER_02]: Like he might be a good strategist, but maybe he, because he's not been able to wake Ravona up.
• 1:34:41
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think he can most of the technology he makes.
• 1:34:43
  [SPEAKER_02]: He just steals it.
• 1:34:44
  [SPEAKER_02]: I think he's from other people.
• 1:34:45
[SPEAKER_02]: So there is a sense of like maybe he's just waiting for somebody else smarter to come around and wake her up.
• 1:34:49
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what his plan is.
• 1:34:51
[SPEAKER_03]: This is more about the psyche of Roy Thomas than anything, but we have this woman being kept like a doll.
• 1:34:56
  [SPEAKER_03]: And then we have,
• 1:34:57
[SPEAKER_03]: Janet, who's like the doll of the Avengers, finding a toy under, in the hospital, and activating the whole paper.
• 1:35:03
[SPEAKER_03]: You know, like, none of the women get much to do in this.
• 1:35:06
[SPEAKER_03]: It's all the boys fighting while the girls look pretty.
• 1:35:09
  [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
• 1:35:10
[SPEAKER_03]: We get the black knight really focused on in a major way as they're launching Dane Whitman into his heroic career.
• 1:35:15
[SPEAKER_03]: Fun, fun times, and your head's not hurting yet, I can tell.
• 1:35:18
[SPEAKER_02]: No, because, you know, there's not really, I mean, other than a little bit of the squadron sinister being manipulated, but that's the grandmaster doing it, manipulating timelines and all.
