- 0:19I'm Jessica and this is Tehbak Here rambles where a couple of
- 0:22friends review Korean dramas. Accept today.
- 0:25Today we are not going to be reviewing AK drama.
- 0:27We are going to be reviewing a little bit of Korean cinema, a
- 0:32little nugget that I like to call always from 2011.
- 0:37And for this episode, I don't have just one guest.
- 0:40I don't have just two guests. I have 4 guests with me today.
- 0:44I have the certified Nunez, all four of them, Jesse, Natalia,
- 0:49Amanda and Sky. Would you guys like to introduce
- 0:52yourselves really fast? Certainly or the certified
- 0:55Nunes. We've been podcasting about K
- 0:57dramas and Asian dramas for a really long time.
- 1:01I'm Natalia. I live in Canada.
- 1:03And yeah, oh, wait. So before this we were told that
- 1:09we should take something we either, well, we've just been
- 1:11watching or something that we recommend.
- 1:13And since mostly what I've just been watching are vertical
- 1:15dramas, and I cannot in good conscience recommend those to
- 1:19any anybody on this earth, I have also been watching the
- 1:24Japanese drama 10 Things to Do Before 40.
- 1:27And it is chef's kiss delightful.
- 1:29It is so sweet and lovely and I love it.
- 1:31It's wonderful. Beautiful old man.
- 1:33Yeah, we at its best. I'm.
- 1:34I'm so excited for. Keep watching it here.
- 1:37It's good. Very nice.
- 1:38Perfect. Hi, I'm Jesse.
- 1:41I am on socials at wine and AK drama.
- 1:44There's not much to talk about me, but I will say for my what
- 1:48I've been watching my my current watch is a little weird right
- 1:51now and you'll know why on a future episode.
- 1:55My like I've been watching Kamen Rider Dano.
- 1:58So Japanese man. I'm Amanda.
- 2:05I'm also Canadian with with Natalia.
- 2:08Yeah. And I have been watching The
- 2:13Winning Try, which is Korean sports drama.
- 2:18Then anybody who knows me knows that's kind of my jam.
- 2:22Is it rugby right? It is, it's rugby, Rugby sevens,
- 2:27They don't really say that, but it's rugby sevens 'cause there's
- 2:30only seven people on the team so.
- 2:33On a scale of 1 to 10, how big are their thighs?
- 2:36This would directly impact if I watch.
- 2:38This show not very like if if you watch the the rugby on
- 2:43Netflix, there's a rugby like Korean rugby series right now
- 2:48that's like a reality series about rugby teams.
- 2:52The thighs on that much larger large.
- 2:54Very large, but the actor thighs of not actual rugby, yeah, no.
- 2:59Not I mean, it's not bad, it's just.
- 3:02That's troublesome for me because.
- 3:06Well, I don't know. I don't know.
- 3:09I gotta be honest, there's not like the first two episodes in,
- 3:14not a lot of rugby's been played.
- 3:15So like, yeah, it's, it's a lot more.
- 3:19It's more like a high. School sports.
- 3:22It's more like a high school drama about the teachers and all
- 3:25the like politics that's going on between these different teams
- 3:29trying to like, get the most money and stuff.
- 3:32So they're OK. Yeah.
- 3:34So we haven't. Seen there might be lots of
- 3:36matches in the future. Though exactly.
- 3:38Hopefully so. OK.
- 3:41Well, I'm Sky. I am in America with Jesse.
- 3:47As far as what I what I was watching last night was, why
- 3:50didn't I tell you a million times?
- 3:51I am pretty much bitching that if I didn't have to sleep, I
- 3:54would have still been watching that.
- 3:56Oh. Perfect.
- 3:58It is thematic in case you delete.
- 4:01Yeah, you will see why. Yeah, you'll see.
- 4:02You'll fire coming. Episode.
- 4:03You'll figure it out. For anyone who also listens to
- 4:06us, I think by the time this comes out, you'll have already
- 4:08found out why. OK, thank you so much for
- 4:14enjoying yourself. Making it so cryptic.
- 4:17Yeah, for those who have already listened to last year's spooky
- 4:22season episode, Jesse and Natalia so graciously came on
- 4:26and reviewed the host with me. That was a lot of fun.
- 4:30But this time around, we have all four certified nunas here to
- 4:33talk about a little melodrama. A small little romance
- 4:37melodrama. I have crazy eyes right now, but
- 4:40we'll we'll get into it. If this is your first time

- 5:24New patrons. Thank you guys.
- 5:26All right, so non spoiler section for always begins with
- 5:31the IMDb synopsis which reads. Chang Tolman is a former boxer
- 5:36who finds work as a parking space attendant.
- 5:38His life turns upside down when he meets Tong Hua, a blind girl,
- 5:43and they begin to fall in love. That's that's pretty much it.
- 5:46That's. That's it.
- 5:49That's all most most of the basic stuff there, yeah.
- 5:53Yeah, A to B to C released October 6th, 2011, and it
- 5:57premiered at the Pusan International Film Festival that
- 6:00year. Wide release was October 20th,
- 6:02that same month, which I thought was very quick.
- 6:04But it's within Korea, so they didn't have to sell it, I guess
- 6:09maybe it's one hour and 48 minutes long.
- 6:12God bless. And it is directed by Song
- 6:15Illinois Gong. He's directed other things like
- 6:18Spider Forest, Flower Island, Forest of Time.
- 6:22Sorry. Thanks.
- 6:22Dance of Time. Yeah.
- 6:24Have you guys heard of this director, this auteur who has
- 6:28basically gone underground and has not done another film since
- 6:33the early twenty 10s? The only other one that I'd
- 6:36heard of of his I to be. To be fair, I watch more dramas
- 6:41than I do movies just in general, but the only one I was
- 6:43Forest of Time I had heard of but otherwise like not super
- 6:46familiar with his A work. Yeah, same, same.
- 6:51I thought that was a little like, oh, I thought he would
- 6:53have done something else by now, but he hasn't.
- 6:55He also Co wrote this movie alongside ROH Hongjin and
- 7:00Yuyonga and Angie son. The only screenwriter who has an
- 7:06actual career like besides this movie and some of the earlier
- 7:11works from them is Yuyonga who has done a shit ton of movies
- 7:16including Miracle in cell number seven, My Paparotti, Steal my
- 7:20Heart, Royal Taylor, My Annoying Brother because I Love you on
- 7:24your Wedding Day, Kim Deyoung born 1982 our season dog days,
- 7:28most recently in 2024. She also has a robust TV career.
- 7:33She wrote Bella me entertainer encounter, also 39.
- 7:38Divorce attorney Shin and Waiting for Kyong Do, which is
- 7:42coming out this year, 20. 20 bangers, a lot of bangers coming
- 7:45out of her, like yeah. Yeah, right.
- 7:48Pretty great. Queen, we see you.
- 7:49I see you, I see you, you're doing something, you're cooking.
- 7:52So this movie stars Hoji sub as told me.
- 7:59Isn't it all your? Giggles I'm also like turning
- 8:03beet red. And Han Hyoju hit plays his Co
- 8:06star Tong Hua, the blind girl. These are two heavy hitters in
- 8:11the holly world. What is your experience with
- 8:14Hoji Saban, Han Hyoju? I guess we have to start.
- 8:19With start with. The wizard.
- 8:22So I, I just think he's neat, you know?
- 8:28Really just like reduce it down to that.
- 8:29I just really, I just mom, I just like him like I don't, I
- 8:33have nothing. I can't say anything.
- 8:36I just, he was like 1 of like the first Korean actors when I
- 8:40started watching dramas and I was like, yes.
- 8:42I get it. I get it completely.
- 8:45I just think he's wonderful and the I think the first drama I
- 8:49watched him in was Ghost, which I really, really, really, really
- 8:53liked. And that was very early on.
- 8:55And I just even even when he's in a show that's like not that
- 9:02great, he's still great in it. I agree, he's never like the
- 9:06problem. No, you're not.
- 9:09You're not like even like OK, 'cause.
- 9:10Like listen. The Master Son is a real
- 9:13classic, but it is not like a great show.
- 9:18But he's just so audacious in it that you're just like, like.
- 9:21Him saying get lost, he's like, no, seared in my brain, Yeah.
- 9:27So, you know, it's I just like him.
- 9:30I. Understand I can't.
- 9:32Just I don't need to. I don't need to judge him by
- 9:33myself. To these people, no.
- 9:38Yeah, how how does everybody else feel about Toji Saab?
- 9:43I I like him. I'm not like a super fan, but
- 9:46like I'm also not I'm not a fan, you know, it's it's fine.
- 9:50I think Terius. Is like.
- 9:53My favorite of his dramas 'cause he's so cute and the kids are so
- 9:57cute in it. It's just a lot of fun.
- 10:01I learned what the plot of My Secretarius was just last year
- 10:06and I was like oh shit I think I missed a banger.
- 10:09Because yeah, you might have I. Saw like the promo and stuff,
- 10:12which it made it look really kind of serious and I was like,
- 10:15I don't know, that's not what I wanted.
- 10:18And then OK, double double shout out because Caitlin from no
- 10:22sleeper dramas was like no, no, no, it's this and explain the
- 10:25plot. And I was like oh shit, this
- 10:27sounds like I would totally love it.
- 10:29So I yeah, it's a lot of fun and I like we definitely most of us
- 10:33were watching it when it was airing too.
- 10:35It was just like a lot of time it's just because it has a
- 10:38little bit of the serious spy stuff, but then the row in the
- 10:41kids and the kids just like make it.
- 10:43And then like the goofy mother of a group plus one stay at home
- 10:47dad. Delightful, Just delightful.
- 10:50You should. Definitely pick it up.
- 10:51Yeah, you should. You should, yeah.
- 10:53Yeah, I will let you guys know. I'll be like it's day one I'm
- 10:55starting. Like, hey guys, I I started
- 11:00watching it. You right, You right.
- 11:04Yeah, I think the first, my first with him was Master Son.
- 11:10And like Natalia said, like he just, he sells it, it's fine,
- 11:15you know, like even though you walk away from it and you're
- 11:18like. It's a hung sister.
- 11:20In the moment, you're enjoying it.
- 11:22It's a good time. Yeah, it was scarier than I
- 11:25thought it was going to be, like at the very beginning.
- 11:27So I started watching it late at night in the dark and I went no,
- 11:31okay, I'll watch this tomorrow during the daylight.
- 11:36I and then I really I don't love a fat suit, but I really enjoyed
- 11:40Omo Venus like I love the found family there, you know, like
- 11:44we're living with the the guys. It's it's a good time, like it's
- 11:49a good time. Sunghoon Henry.
- 11:51Like it's it's. Fun.
- 11:53Right. So, and then yeah, Terry's I,
- 11:57which I just realized when I was looking at this, I never watched
- 12:00the end. Like I'm, I think I'm like 3 or
- 12:034 episodes from the end and I, I think I lost whatever the
- 12:06streaming service was that it was on.
- 12:09And then I kept thinking I'd go back to it or.
- 12:11Something. I think it dropped off of 1 like
- 12:14it was on something and then it left that platform and I hadn't
- 12:18got around to finishing it yet. And then it popped back up
- 12:22somewhere else and it was like, oh, I need to finish that and I
- 12:25just never did. So I should go back and rewatch
- 12:28it. It was good.
- 12:32So everyone's pretty much covered the ones that I've seen.
- 12:35I do want to give a shout out to Alienoid.
- 12:37Yes. Oh yeah.
- 12:38He was. Fun in that.
- 12:40Movie like as far as so anyway, I really liked him in that, but
- 12:43the first one I saw him in was Master's Son.
- 12:45The second one that I like really, really enjoyed him in a
- 12:48lot was Oh my Venus. I did have fun with that one
- 12:51because I like Jim Crudd. That's kind of my thing.
- 12:55And the Terrius was cute. It was darn cute.
- 12:58I would love to see him in more. I have not pressed play on Mercy
- 13:01for None but get me on the right mood day.
- 13:03I just haven't. Had the time this.
- 13:05You haven't had the time. Time yet, but.
- 13:07And I was tempted by doctor lawyer.
- 13:09I just, I really had not have time for doctor lawyer.
- 13:11That's a whole different. Level of time.
- 13:13That would, Yeah. You know what's really funny?
- 13:15I'm just like reminding about this very early on in me
- 13:20following Sky on social media, Like this is before we started
- 13:24the podcast. Like one of the first things
- 13:26that I remember, she gave me a list of dramas to watch and Oh,
- 13:30My Venus was one of those. It's a story.
- 13:34I was like so long ago. I was, I was really enjoying
- 13:38that one at the time like that. Would be so cute and like I was
- 13:41like I don't know about this. I don't really like the pat suit
- 13:43or I like discussions and she's like it felt like a non might be
- 13:47OK it. Was like a non mean spirited.
- 13:50I hate a fat suit. OK, Yeah, yeah, I.
- 13:53Agree. Best possible fat suit situation
- 13:55you could have. For a for sure, it was done with
- 13:58the best of intentions, with a lot of heart.
- 14:00Yeah, and I don't remember his character 'cause he was the
- 14:03trainer. I don't remember him ever being
- 14:05kind of like he was never, you know, weird or anything like.
- 14:08That it was like the best case scenario and I was like, you
- 14:10know what? If they're gonna do it like this
- 14:11is the way that they should do it.
- 14:13I was like never felt. Like he was like pushing on her
- 14:16to lose weight. He was pushing on her to get
- 14:18healthy, yes. And to get like, fit.
- 14:21Like I want you to exercise with me.
- 14:23Well, essentially since since the character I did like a near
- 14:26death experience essentially. And he's like, OK, we're not
- 14:29going to do that. So let's let's let's not.
- 14:33Yeah. So I freaking adore Sochi sub
- 14:37and I basically said as much because we on the Tabakvi just
- 14:42covered I'm sorry, I love you, which is, you know, a 20 year
- 14:47old drama that he made him, made him famous.
- 14:51It's one of like his breakout roles that one and something
- 14:54happened in Bali, those two melodramas that came out in the
- 14:59very same year. So I don't know what the hell he
- 15:01was smoking, but I consider him like the Melodramas King.
- 15:05He is so, so good at playing this kind of character and with
- 15:10the sad eye. The most beaten puppy situation
- 15:18it's. So good I eat it right the fuck
- 15:21up. And I've loved Soji sub for a
- 15:23very long time. I was gifted A2 year calendar of
- 15:27Soji sub and so and I have like evidence of this.
- 15:31I still have this photo of the calendar and and I used that
- 15:36chip for two years like on ironically fucking love that
- 15:39calendar and it was a sad day when I had to throw it away
- 15:42because the years were up. But Soji sub, I'm like, he's
- 15:47like my number one, like OPA for many years now.
- 15:52And the fact that I think a lot of people are discovering him
- 15:54with mercy for none is kind of like simultaneously great but
- 15:58also like a gut punch because he's been that guy for the
- 16:02longest time. That that would be like
- 16:04discovering that someone like I just.
- 16:06I saw this new actor, Keanu Reeves from.
- 16:10It's exactly be like girl, yeah, girl, you're.
- 16:14So close. It's like, I'm happy you're
- 16:16here, but like. Happy for you.
- 16:19Yeah, honestly, that's how it feels with Sodisa Love right
- 16:24now. He has been famous for a long
- 16:27time, but also he's kind of a recluse.
- 16:29He's a little bit reclusive and he, when he's not working, like
- 16:32you don't hear from him at all, which is fantastic.
- 16:34That's how it should be. I don't want to hear from you
- 16:36unless you have something to follow.
- 16:38Like literally like family and his and his minion collection.
- 16:40Like that's all he needs. Like it's fine.
- 16:44Him and his SPF like it is what it is.
- 16:47Hein Heuju on the other hand, I love her too.
- 16:51Love her so much. What do you guys have to say
- 16:53about honey or Jew? I mean, she's in one of my
- 16:56favorite dramas of all time, Happiness.
- 16:59Jessie and I share a favorite drama, which is happiness and
- 17:03yeah, it's. She's so good in it and she's so
- 17:06good in every role that I've ever seen her in.
- 17:08And I haven't seen her in a like a super mount, but like every
- 17:11time I see her, I'm like, it's like I almost forget who she is
- 17:15because she's so good at just adapting to a different
- 17:17character. And then I'm like, oh, wait,
- 17:19that's, you know, her. Like, what are you doing here?
- 17:22Yeah, real. Bangers after bangers.
- 17:25Yeah, I want to offer like the trilogy of hers of Happiness
- 17:28Moving and Blood free. Yes, because just.
- 17:31That's a great lineup for her. Like the crazy, like the
- 17:34craziness kept going. It was just like, oh, you're
- 17:37just picking. Up in the.
- 17:37All winners. Yeah, she was like doubling down
- 17:40such different characters in each one, Like just.
- 17:42She also doesn't age like what is she doing?
- 17:45No, I don't like she just constantly says the same age and
- 17:48I'm like like what? What?
- 17:50Yeah, I think she's 37 now. Like late 30s now. 3838, yeah.
- 17:57Natalia and eight, but yeah, yeah, no, she's she's
- 18:02incredible. She's incredible.
- 18:04And every time I see that she's in something, I'm like, oh, I'm
- 18:07about to have a good time. Yeah, Speaking of good time,
- 18:11good times may or may not have been had we watched always This
- 18:17movie, as I said at the top, it's a melodrama, it's a
- 18:20tearjerker. It's 2011, it's of a time, and I
- 18:25would love to know what you guys thought about always.
- 18:27Had you seen it before? Was this a rewatch?
- 18:30Please share with the. Clouds, I wanted to ask first,
- 18:33like is, is it, is it a rewatch for you?
- 18:36OK, so I'll go first. I'll start this up.
- 18:38So this is a rewatch for me. I had seen it, I don't know, 10
- 18:45years ago maybe one time and it completely wrecked me.
- 18:49I was like Oh my God, this is so sad.
- 18:52I was in a puddle of tears sobbing.
- 18:54It was fantastic. Since then, if someone's like I
- 18:57want to watch a sad movie or you recommend me AK movie, I'm like,
- 19:01watch yourself, bring a box of tissues.
- 19:04Always, always from 2011, watch that movie.
- 19:07And great thing that it's actually really accessible in
- 19:11the States. It's on Amazon Prime and it's
- 19:13been on Amazon Prime for a really long time.
- 19:16So it's very accessible, more accessible than other Korean
- 19:19cinema. It's also on Toby, so it's.
- 19:22It's a Toby, which I love. Toby A+ plus.
- 19:26Toby like every time I get like, I'm like, oh man, like they
- 19:30pulled this thing. I'm like, I should just say, and
- 19:32it's like 9 times out of 10, it's like it's on Tubi.
- 19:36It's on Tubi, Yeah, don't worry about.
- 19:39It I love Tubi like it's so great.
- 19:41They are hustling so hard. It's fantastic.
- 19:45There's so many things on Tubi. If you have not checked out
- 19:48Tubi, highly recommend going and checking out that platform.
- 19:52Not sponsored, not sponsored, sponsored Tubi.
- 19:55Anyways, this movie on the rewatch.
- 20:00I was like, Yep, it's still really sad.
- 20:02I didn't cry this time because I obviously knew it was coming but
- 20:05I was like oh this is so so cheesy and cliche.
- 20:09I fucking love it. Like I was still like, this is
- 20:12so great, what is there not to love?
- 20:15I love their performances. I loved the coincidence that
- 20:19happened. Like the reveal of like the
- 20:21intertwining of them in the past and their love story is just so
- 20:26sweet. Yeah sorry Sumi.
- 20:29Yeah I looked up letterbox reviews when I went to log it.
- 20:34I. Saw.
- 20:35Oh, no, there's really gonna be no.
- 20:38Listen, they're not my drama list, so.
- 20:41I logs up to my drama list comment section.
- 20:44For those who don't know, Letterbox is like a social media
- 20:47platform for movie lovers but I use it as a documentation system
- 20:52to. I watch this on this day, I
- 20:54rewatched this on this day, yada yada.
- 20:56And I, I review things myself. The name of the game for
- 21:00letterbox reviews. The wittier the better, the
- 21:03funnier the better. And these reviews were killing
- 21:08me because they were pointing out the things that I already
- 21:12knew. This is a three star review.
- 21:15I only have two reviews saved by the way.
- 21:16I'm not going to sit here and read like 50 letterbox reviews
- 21:18but this one says 3 stars. I mean, the first half is very
- 21:23cute and perfectly fine for a sweet romantic K drama, but
- 21:26unfortunately the second-half gets too melodramatic and
- 21:30convenient. What does convenient mean in
- 21:34those comments? I love your face.
- 21:38I'll come, I'll finish the the thought that this person's had
- 21:41this person said, I mean, let me just say that yes, I have a
- 21:44personal problem with stories that are too cheesy and
- 21:47melodramatic. But this one, oh boy, it gets to
- 21:49a whole new level of dramatic. And I was like, yeah, man,
- 21:54that's the fucking. Point of the whole thing you're.
- 21:56Like, OK, that's the, that's the genre.
- 21:59Literally the genre. Yeah.
- 22:03But but also what is convenient, I still want to know like what
- 22:05they mean? Like what's Cadian?
- 22:07I guess they thought that the very the intertwining that I
- 22:12mentioned, which is the spoiler to say what exactly what it is,
- 22:15but the way that they are connected in the past, they
- 22:18thought it was convenient that they I guess were even.
- 22:21Connected almost like every single one of these types.
- 22:24Of every K drama. Ever like.
- 22:28It's like, listen, we're talking Korean.
- 22:30Like we're I'm amazed they didn't know each other as kids.
- 22:33Like what? Are we convenient?
- 22:36Come on now, I was like, you should be happy that they
- 22:38weren't more conveniently typed together.
- 22:42Right. So this other person says it, no
- 22:46stars, they just put a review. So I was like OK, be be fresh,
- 22:50be more fresh than that. They said the first half was
- 22:53extremely good. The development of Hanyoju and
- 22:57Soji sub's characters was handled very well.
- 22:59It was heartwarming. But once they passed that
- 23:02period, it became kind of dull and predictable people.
- 23:07Don't like the sad? I listen.
- 23:09Everyone's entitled to their opinion.
- 23:11I need to start out. I'm going to compliment sandwich
- 23:14thing that everyone's entitled to their opinion, but sometimes
- 23:18people have opinions about things not realizing that.
- 23:22Like that's the point. That's the point that that.
- 23:26When you're watching a movie like this, like some like
- 23:29surprise twists, that's that's a thriller thing.
- 23:32This ain't no thriller it. Felt so like Nolan bro trying to
- 23:37watch a very typical but beautiful melodramatic Korean
- 23:44story and they're like why is it so?
- 23:48Formulated I wanted it a wrong. I wasn't this.
- 23:50Essentially hearing. What?
- 23:53I went to film school and when I tell you that's like every dude
- 23:57in film school. Oh, yeah.
- 23:59Well, I didn't really understand what?
- 24:00This was new. What thing new.
- 24:02This was bringing to the like, shut up.
- 24:04Like, dude, shut up, dude. No, I'm kidding.
- 24:07You're allowed to have your own opinion.
- 24:08You don't have to like. This movie, you are allowed to
- 24:10have your own opinion. You're not.
- 24:11You don't have to like the same movies as everybody else.
- 24:13But The thing is, I tend to say if I dislike a movie but I see
- 24:18it for what it is, I'm like, I can see what they were going
- 24:21for. It's not for me, not for me.
- 24:24Right. They didn't say that.
- 24:26They're like it's predictable and I'm like, OK, but that's the
- 24:31thing that's I signed up for that.
- 24:33Like I 100% signed up for that. I.
- 24:36My thought the whole time I was rewatching it 'cause it was a
- 24:39rewatch for me but I just kept thinking it reminds me of that
- 24:4470s movie love story. Like it's got that same soft
- 24:48vibe and that love and the, you know, like it just it has that
- 24:55same and it makes sense because love story was like everybody
- 24:59loved love story. Like it has so many remakes and
- 25:02like it's been retold and always is the same way, right?
- 25:05Like people love this story and because there's something about
- 25:09the story that people just love and it touches people.
- 25:13It's simple and. Easy.
- 25:17It was also complicated to me. Yeah.
- 25:20Yeah, it's just, it's a straightforward, here you go.
- 25:23Yeah, it was also a rewatch for me.
- 25:25And I was like, okay, like I'm like, I feel like I remember
- 25:28every single scene in this and I was like, but you know, I
- 25:30probably don't. I probably don't.
- 25:32And then I was rewatching. I was like, no, I do, I do.
- 25:35I don't know what I saw my. Entire film, like I remembered
- 25:40this entire film, but it was still it was very nice.
- 25:42And also we had, we have like a Patreon movie night that we do
- 25:46on our podcast and we had watched the Japanese remake and
- 25:50we hadn't realized, right, it was a remake until we were like
- 25:55a few and then we were like, wait.
- 25:57A minute. Yeah, so.
- 26:00When? You do these Patreon movie
- 26:02watches like if it's your birthday month, you get to pick.
- 26:05So I picked it and I purely picked it because I like the two
- 26:08leads in Japanese movie like and I knew it wasn't a whore.
- 26:12And so I was like being really nice to people and not giving
- 26:15them a horror movie, right, that they have to sit and watch for
- 26:18me. And I was like, it's fine
- 26:19because pots are both here if you.
- 26:21Haven't listened to the host review with Natalia and Jesse on
- 26:24it. Jesse can like raw Dog 100 plus
- 26:28horror movies. Yeah, easily.
- 26:31Yeah, she did that last year. Yeah.
- 26:32So anyway, that's contact. So that's.
- 26:35Being nice. And I remember very clearly,
- 26:39like, we started watching and Amanda going, wait a minute.
- 26:43Familiar. Which I mean, now that I've
- 26:49like, officially watched the Korean version, it kind of feels
- 26:52like I've already watched it because they're pretty much the
- 26:54same. They're very close.
- 26:55They're almost. They're not quite shown for
- 26:58shot, but they're. Pretty much shot yeah yeah yeah
- 27:01yeah it's they're kind of like I re watched it but it was just
- 27:05with different. Actors they're.
- 27:07Not identical twins, but they're certainly fraternal.
- 27:09You know what I mean? Like.
- 27:12Sky. So I think it was a re watch for
- 27:15me, but now that we're like reviewing all of the tapes of
- 27:18this I. Reviewing game tape.
- 27:21Like life has been. Crazy the past, but I I I don't.
- 27:25Know, I honestly do not know if I've 'cause I mean it felt super
- 27:30familiar when I was watching it this time.
- 27:33It could have been the Japanese version.
- 27:35Yeah, it could have been. I don't know if I'm remembering
- 27:37the Japanese version or if I am remembering.
- 27:40It, I couldn't, I remember having watched it before at all,
- 27:43but my drama list told me that I had watched it.
- 27:46So I was like, OK. And then once I started
- 27:49watching, I was like, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:51But like, beforehand, I could not have told you.
- 27:54I was like, apparently I've watched it and I have no idea
- 27:57what it's about. And as soon as it started up, it
- 27:59was like, okay. Like see I do.
- 28:03My drama list tells me I didn't have not watched it, but I am
- 28:08also pretty bad about adding the movies.
- 28:10Yeah. I'm terrible on.
- 28:12Movies because I feel like I I will say this, if I watched the
- 28:15Korean one, it was a long time ago, like at just sketch brain.
- 28:19So, but as far as once we got going, I'm like, oh, parking
- 28:23attendant, oh boxer, oh blank. Like I was like.
- 28:25This is all. All the connections are
- 28:27reformatted. Yes, but but was I was?
- 28:30Was I overriding Soji sub on the Japanese 1?
- 28:33I don't know. I mean, they style him they
- 28:37smell, you say? It's literally again so.
- 28:40The hair. The same hair, same like outfit
- 28:43so I have to. Watch the paper shit, it's Oh my
- 28:47God. It's it's.
- 28:49It's just imagine like. It's basically this in a
- 28:52slightly different font like. They're very close.
- 28:55Like it's like essentially it's like if Japanese is your like
- 28:59native tongue, you'll watch that over the Korean one The but like
- 29:04there's no real big like. There's no new information
- 29:07going. I got you there.
- 29:08Same tone you. Know we're doing the same stuff.
- 29:12But you all liked it. Yeah, yeah, OK.
- 29:17This era in filmmaking K dramas. They wanted to answer a question
- 29:26and the question was based on like would you still love me if
- 29:33I was blind? Would you still love me if
- 29:36whatever XYZ? They're really doing the would
- 29:38you still love me if I was a Worm bit but like in like before
- 29:42it. Was a worm.
- 29:43Was a thing. They tried that rinse and repeat
- 29:46for so many different plots and K dramas and movies and I'm
- 29:50sorry, it works a lot of the time.
- 29:53A lot of the time. It's cliches are cliches for a
- 29:58reason, you know what I mean? Like tropes exist because you
- 30:01enjoy them. Like.
- 30:05And also, sorry, I grew up watching Rocky marathons every
- 30:094th of July, every Memorial Day and Soji sub's character
- 30:14straight up Rocky. Rocky Balboa, Yeah.
- 30:16Yeah. He down to the turtle, down to
- 30:19the turtle. I was like, Oh my God, there's
- 30:21even a turtle. I forgot about the turtle.
- 30:24This guy I straight up Yeah. Rocky Balboa Facts, Emily.
- 30:29I was kind of laughing because I was like rewatching it while I
- 30:31was lying in bed because I I watch everything on my tablet
- 30:33lying in bed while my husband does like intellectual pursuits
- 30:36near me because like, that's our like thing.
- 30:38Wait, wait. What do you mean you're not
- 30:41doing an intellectual pursuit by watching always?
- 30:43Well, well, so I. Whatever percentage of vertical
- 30:48dramas I mean, it depends. On If you're like dramas are
- 30:53really right. I know, I know.
- 30:55Don't be putting me on blast here.
- 30:57No, as a lie. I put myself on blast, but I I
- 30:59turned to my turned to my husband and I was like honey in
- 31:04the nice. I'm about to say something, but
- 31:06I mean it in the nicest possible way.
- 31:11Soji sub really looks like a dude who got punched in the face
- 31:14a lot in this. Like he looked like they really
- 31:16tasked him well because he has the energy of a guy who got
- 31:19punched in the face a lot. Yeah, like he's and I do.
- 31:21It and like, and that's not just in this, like in almost
- 31:24everything he makes, he has the energy of a guy.
- 31:26Like a world. Probably gotten probably gotten
- 31:29punched in the face a bit like and and not in like a oh, he's
- 31:33beaten up and ugly. I mean, just like there's like a
- 31:35certain energy to him. I'm like, he's kind of perfect
- 31:40for this particular iteration of like, you know, man punching out
- 31:46of his league with a lady situation.
- 31:48I. Think he even says, because she
- 31:50asked him at one point, are you handsome?
- 31:53And he says I look manly. And I was like, yes, yes, that's
- 31:58it. Listen, I to answer his
- 32:01question, my personal opinion, yeah.
- 32:03But like, I think it's a subjective, objective thing, you
- 32:08know, like. I mean, he hot too, like he
- 32:11should have said. Yes, I'm handsome, but yeah,
- 32:13he's got a very masculine looking appeal about him.
- 32:18Aesthetic. And again, sue me, it works.
- 32:21For me, no. I don't.
- 32:24Listen. We ain't going to sue you not.
- 32:26At. All I may be more equal
- 32:29opportunity for that sort of thing, but like, yeah, he's got,
- 32:33he's got the sauce, you know? I know, and you see him.
- 32:35Directors knew what they were doing.
- 32:37They've got like training montages in this they.
- 32:39Got they got him doing the pull ups like they do on, you know,
- 32:42like, Oh my Venus. Like they're like, OK, OK, yeah,
- 32:46yeah, yeah, yeah. Slow zoom in on his back
- 32:48muscles, like OK, we see you. Yeah.
- 32:50What am I going to do? Fast forward this?
- 32:52Yeah, no. Like, OK, we get it.
- 32:56I get it. Sochi stuff apparently took
- 33:00boxing lessons to prepare for for this role.
- 33:04And I was like, I bet this is something that I wanted to bring
- 33:08up. This is maybe steering us in a
- 33:10more controversial direction. But because of the type of
- 33:14content that I put out this year, IE the K drama hot takes,
- 33:19episodes that were fueled by a viral TikTok that I did, look.
- 33:24What do you think of the age gap?
- 33:26I don't give a shit about age gaps.
- 33:27This movie has Soji sub who was 34 or 33 ish when he made this
- 33:33movie and Hanyoju was 24. Yeah, they're both 10 year, 10
- 33:37year age gap that's. Honestly, like they don't look
- 33:42that far apart. That's what they don't.
- 33:44That's what I'm saying with her. She just looks like it's she
- 33:48just looks like the same all around.
- 33:51So she doesn't look like baby faced in it like to me and to.
- 33:55Be honest, I thought it was weird that she kept like her
- 33:58sort of nickname for him or whatever was juicy.
- 34:01And I was like, he looks like he's like maybe four years older
- 34:05than you. Maybe.
- 34:06Yeah, it didn't look like a fan. And.
- 34:09I just by the end even I was just like, you know, you
- 34:12continuing to call him like old man kind of makes it seem like
- 34:16there is a weirder age gap thing going on.
- 34:19Here right within the. Movie, right?
- 34:21Like it's pretty normal. So like, let's just settle down,
- 34:27you know? It's pretty funny.
- 34:28The Japanese movie The Female is like older than say, I don't
- 34:33remember by how much, but it's probably like 6 or 7 years,
- 34:36yeah. Who what I was it like age cap
- 34:40like OK, people are always going on.
- 34:42People are always going on like oh ten year age gap like their
- 34:45own parents don't have a 10 year age gap when most of them do
- 34:48like get the. Circumstances of it, like
- 34:51obviously, like she's 25, so like that's not a thing and it's
- 34:55like not really a thing in the movie too.
- 34:57Like so it doesn't matter like if we're like in a power
- 35:01imbalance or like it was. So when she's he's like known
- 35:05for all of her life when she was younger too, a grooming
- 35:08situation, then we can talk. But this really wasn't that.
- 35:12Well, yeah. And to me, they're two world
- 35:15weary characters. They've both been through it
- 35:18already before they even met. And so they kind of meet each
- 35:21other in that space of we've been through it, so now let's
- 35:24kind of have a good moment in life together.
- 35:26And so to me that doesn't. I didn't.
- 35:28They both feel fully grown. Yeah, when you meet them, right.
- 35:33Even though she is sort of bubbly and I guess you could
- 35:37perceive her as younger because of some of the like way she
- 35:41behaves, she never comes across like she's like this.
- 35:45Like they never focus on that, you know, like sometimes they
- 35:48would focus on him being like, I don't get her because there's a
- 35:5210 year age gap kind of thing. But that's not how it comes
- 35:55across it comes. Across, yeah, I think it's more
- 35:57of a like a different. Person a little brighter, and
- 36:00he's a little. Sad.
- 36:01Yeah, he's. Got a shit life right right
- 36:08comes across yeah yeah, like although I'm every time I age,
- 36:13cap discourse gets me every time.
- 36:15Because me every time. Because I thought I was, you
- 36:19know, validly bitching about age gaps when it when it mattered,
- 36:23right? When I'm like, that's a 20 year
- 36:25age gap. That's like a really big gap.
- 36:27Like, that's crazy. But now people are bitching
- 36:30about four years. Yeah.
- 36:33And I'm like what the fuck? I saw someone call something a
- 36:36nuna romance when she was like 3 years older than him and I'm
- 36:39like dad. No.
- 36:40No, no, no, not at all. That is not I like.
- 36:43Unless it's a joke tongue in. Cheek.
- 36:45Yeah, unless you're kidding. Yeah, Yeah, I realize that.
- 36:48I'm like the bad person to ask because Full disclosure my
- 36:52parents had a 30 year age gap between them in a not no.
- 36:57They met when my mom was in her 30s so it wasn't like a weird
- 37:00thing like. Not expecting it to be like
- 37:04anyway, so my dad in prison, one of those.
- 37:08Things where you're like, my grandma was a hostage, like, no,
- 37:11it wasn't. I took the best case scenario of
- 37:16the 30 years. Yeah, your parents.
- 37:18It was all, it was all above the Lord.
- 37:21Okay, but so I'm just like I'm like you're upset about like 6
- 37:26years. Call me when you're done college
- 37:30kid. Like get out of here it.
- 37:31Gets so. Infuriating.
- 37:33I think the only thing I don't like about age gaps is it's so
- 37:38much male is always the like older and then the females.
- 37:42And that's the only thing that's like kind of like annoying about
- 37:46it is that it's like always so okay that the meant could be
- 37:49like the oldest and then not. And then when it becomes like a
- 37:53noona romance, people get weird about but like.
- 37:57No. It still doesn't matter to me
- 37:59like, especially if like the circumstances are like fine,
- 38:03right? And the reality is, like, I feel
- 38:06like sometimes they're interposing age gap discussions
- 38:09for when we're actually talking about underage concerns.
- 38:11Yeah. That's like different.
- 38:14If that's what we're actually discussing.
- 38:15That's what we should discuss as long as they met as adults, as
- 38:20the romance is happening as adults or they were both, you
- 38:24know, children and it's like a two year age gap or whatever,
- 38:26which is not a thing. Right.
- 38:29But like, it's only a big deal. Like if if this was a movie
- 38:33about him being, you know, 25 and her being 15.
- 38:37Yeah. OK.
- 38:38That's a. Problem.
- 38:40That's a. Problem.
- 38:41That's a, that's a horror movie. I mean, that's a crime thriller
- 38:49at that point. But when we're acting like 24
- 38:53and 35 is the same thing, we're making the other thing that is
- 38:58actually a problem seem like less of a problem because we're
- 39:02comparing it to a thing that's not a problem at all.
- 39:04So like. Changing gears, I found a
- 39:10interview that Tojisa did back in the day, back in 2011 for the
- 39:16release of this film, and it was with 10 Asia.
- 39:21It was with 10 Asia. And some of these questions are
- 39:25a little bit like I basically translated the page, which was
- 39:29entirely in Korean into English. And I'm like, God, this was a
- 39:34harsh, not a harsh interview. But I'm like, oh, they're asking
- 39:36legit questions. So it asks.
- 39:39Isn't having good chemistry with your scene partner important to
- 39:42maintaining such emotions? And I was like, tell me all
- 39:46about this Hoji sub because I'm entirely interested in what you
- 39:49have to say about the process and what it what it feels like
- 39:52and chemistry, chemistry readings and stuff like that.
- 39:55So he says. I had only met Hanyuju once in
- 39:58the past, at an award ceremony, and I expected her to be a
- 40:00cheerful and bubbly person. But it turned out she was
- 40:04actually the complete opposite. She was serious and had a lot of
- 40:07thoughts regarding acting, was the type that puts in a lot of
- 40:10stress on herself. But that helped me a lot.
- 40:13It would have been hard to focus on my emotions if she was
- 40:16playful and all over the place, but seeing her think a lot about
- 40:18her character helped me a lot too.
- 40:20Oh. It's really.
- 40:21Nice. I was like, wow, look at that.
- 40:24He like, he's like turn around. I'm going to actually turn this
- 40:26question around and just complicate, you know?
- 40:29Compliment how to do it. Yeah, yeah.
- 40:31Yeah, like good energy. Good energy, the interviewer
- 40:35goes on to ask, but it must have been difficult to be seen
- 40:38partners with someone who's playing a visually impaired
- 40:40person. I was like, I have actually,
- 40:42I've seen a lot of media where like someone's acting opposite
- 40:46someone who's pretending to be blind, and I have never seen
- 40:49someone ask this question. So I was like, yeah, OK, what's
- 40:52he going to say? He says actors deliver their
- 40:54emotions through their eyes, but she wouldn't look at me.
- 40:57So this was very frustrating. At first.
- 40:59I couldn't focus and kept wondering how I'm supposed to
- 41:02act. But I got used to it, the
- 41:04situation in a week. It felt comfortable after really
- 41:07starting to feel that this person really can't see me.
- 41:10Acting is such a strange thing. And I was like, yeah, it is
- 41:13fucking strange. Yeah, it really is.
- 41:15Yeah. They go on to ask.
- 41:17Set aside the earnest romance within the movie, The story
- 41:21itself was not very refreshing. So what's the reason you went
- 41:26for this movie? And I was like, Oh my God.
- 41:30But this interviewer sounded for a ton but like.
- 41:32What they're saying, I like. I ran off like the political
- 41:35beat to be like, all right, we're taking you off of like
- 41:38interviewing like failed politicians and sending you to
- 41:41go talk to Soji some about his romance.
- 41:43I was literally like looking around for the camera because
- 41:46this question went for the jugular and it kind of Harkins
- 41:51back to some of the letterbox reviews that I read.
- 41:54So I was like, Oh my God. I mind you, this was critically
- 41:58well received. Like the movie was a success.
- 42:02So. So Joseph says, I wanted to do a
- 42:05love story like this. I thought that it would be nice
- 42:07for people who watch this movie to think of their past and the
- 42:10excitement they felt over their first love or crush.
- 42:14And they then they ask, and did you think that you'd do well at
- 42:18delivering such emotions? And I'm like.
- 42:20What are they doing? Clearly did, because.
- 42:24Like he accepted the job. They're like, yeah, assess your
- 42:29own acting is what they're asking him to do.
- 42:32And he goes, I didn't, I'm not the type that thinks I'm good at
- 42:36this, so I'll show people this. I'm the type that has to rack it
- 42:39out by tormenting himself. I'm very sure of what sort of
- 42:43acting I'm bad at, but not sure of what sort of acting I'm good
- 42:47at, nor am I sure of what sort of act I'm confident at doing.
- 42:50And I was like, Oh my God. Question feels like a gotcha to
- 42:55try to make him seem like like. Humble.
- 42:59Bragging or something. And he's like, I'm not going to
- 43:01do it. You're not going to get me this
- 43:03time. Like what was this journalist's
- 43:05problem? I don't know.
- 43:08It should have been like a softball interview.
- 43:09You're just trying to promote a romance film.
- 43:11Like calm down dude. I literally could not believe
- 43:15like a few of these questions, especially the one saying, yeah,
- 43:18this story is like really recycled.
- 43:21Why did you choose to do this? It's.
- 43:24Just. Like, I sometimes wonder when
- 43:26you see a review of an older film that says this plot line is
- 43:30so recycled, you're like, is it though?
- 43:33Or. Like, is it?
- 43:35But didn't start here, right? Like, you know, like when I saw
- 43:39Casablanca, I was like, Oh my God, this is so cliche.
- 43:42And I was like, no, it became cliche.
- 43:47I know every single line because every single line was that good
- 43:52that it got forwarded into every other form of media.
- 43:59And I'm like, this has been remade.
- 44:00This story has been retold. It's not recycled.
- 44:03It was the recycled thing like. So I can't there's more to that
- 44:09interview, but those were some of the questions that I was
- 44:11like, I need to tell, I need to tell the newness about these.
- 44:15Questions. No, that's a literal insane
- 44:17series of questions to ask for like a movie promo interview.
- 44:21Like, jeez. If they would, they wouldn't get
- 44:24away with asking those types of questions like K Nets would go
- 44:27out. No, and that's The thing is that
- 44:29the promo today really doesn't include this kind of like
- 44:33probing or difficult inward reflection.
- 44:38Why shouldn't? Because it's like a marketing
- 44:41thing. Like we're not doing
- 44:42investigative journalism on like.
- 44:44I was like is. This a very.
- 44:46Is this a Vanity Fair piece that I don't know about or like?
- 44:50Right. What is this?
- 44:51I thought he was promoting that. Movie like this Expo say about.
- 44:54The. Expo, so she said, promotes
- 44:56film. We get to the bottom of it.
- 44:58Well, like if he had said, oh, I think I'm a horrible actor, that
- 45:02would've been the headline. You know what I'm saying?
- 45:04Like they it felt like they were fishing.
- 45:06Thinks he's terrible like. Yeah, it was.
- 45:09It was interesting, very interesting.
- 45:11And that was from a a Korean outlet anyway, So you mentioned
- 45:16the Japanese remake. This has been remade several
- 45:19times, a Hindi production from India, a Turkish movie, The
- 45:24Japanese remake and then a Filipino remake which came out
- 45:28during the pandy September 2022. So this is a very popular story
- 45:35that everyone it's like how. They keep, it's like how they
- 45:37keep remaking boys over flowers and then everyone's just, yeah,
- 45:41it's so terrible. Let's watch the next two
- 45:43minutes. It's done watching.
- 45:45Clearly the people be enjoying it so as much as these people
- 45:48on, you know, review sites and whatever go on about, oh, it's
- 45:51so cliche entire y'all keep tuning in.
- 45:53Yeah, keep watching. Keep enjoying, you know there's.
- 45:56Still an audience. OK, we've come to the part where
- 45:59I'm going to ask you guys how many soldier bottles you would
- 46:02give always. And I feel like this might be
- 46:06very revealing because we're we all seem to like it, but you
- 46:10never know what the scoring, how many soldier bottles.
- 46:14OK so on my drama list I went in to check and I had rated it 9
- 46:20out of 10, which is very high for me.
- 46:22Which means I really friggin enjoy this.
- 46:24How much of this is like the Sochi sub privilege?
- 46:27Who knows. So I guess if we're doing it out
- 46:29of five, that's going to be a 4.5 for Mol Natalia.
- 46:32Hey 4.5 school. I liked it.
- 46:35I liked. It.
- 46:36No. Jesse.
- 46:39I was thinking about this and I I like it.
- 46:42I would give it like more like a 3.5, mostly because maybe we'll
- 46:47talk about in spoiler section. Yes.
- 46:50But like, I generally liked it. I didn't hate watching it.
- 46:54Like I'm the type of person if I do not like the what I'm
- 46:56watching, I'm gonna turn it off and never come back to it.
- 46:59So Yep. Yeah, I'd probably say like an
- 47:038, Like it's, that's fine. Good.
- 47:06Yeah. Like an 8 out of 10 or sorry,
- 47:09like a 8 out of 10. I I was looking at my, my, my
- 47:13drama list. I was looking at my drama list.
- 47:15And then so it was like, so. Yeah.
- 47:18So like probably a four, maybe even a four and a half.
- 47:21Like I, I really enjoyed it. There were a few things that.
- 47:25Yeah. There's kind of like a few later
- 47:27things that I'm like. Yeah, like that.
- 47:30It could have been way up here and instead it was just like, it
- 47:35was quite good. It was very enjoyable to me.
- 47:37So all right, this guy. I'm not good at rating things so
- 47:42I will like often it's pass or fail for me is really how this
- 47:45goes. So for me it is probably A5 out
- 47:48of five because I didn't have any problems with anything like
- 47:52I was if someone asked me, were you impressed by this?
- 47:56I'm not sure I was impressed. I had a good time.
- 47:57It served exactly what I believe the story is serving.
- 48:01So like I didn't, I didn't feel like anything was left open or
- 48:06so I felt very I was very, very satisfied by it.
- 48:08So therefore, 'cause I feel like a four would be under doing it
- 48:12for me. So I'll give it a 5 because I
- 48:14think it's, I think it delivers. Like fully it doesn't for me.
- 48:18It does exactly what it promises to do, and it also gives you a
- 48:22turtle and a dog like. Wow to love.
- 48:25Fuzzy dog, man there isn't that put it over.
- 48:28God shout out to Easy Easy the golden.
- 48:31Easy, the golden Retriever. I think I would give it a 4 1/2
- 48:37if I'm being mean, But like, catch me at like 2:00 AM
- 48:42watching this movie. That's a 5 out of five soju
- 48:44bottle movie, you know? Yeah.
- 48:46Yeah, it's. True.
- 48:47It hits the spot, and I'm not saying it's like McDonald's hit
- 48:51the spot, but it is a form of like fast food.
- 48:55I don't give a fuck. It's really good.
- 48:57It's really good. It delivers exactly what you
- 49:01want. Yes.
- 49:02If you're like, I'm going to press play about like on a
- 49:04melodrama romance about a guy down on his luck and a blind
- 49:09woman. Yeah, it's exactly what you're
- 49:11expecting from this. They're not like we're going to
- 49:13really change up the no. They're like we're going to.
- 49:16Deliver exactly what we promised you to deliver.
- 49:19Yep, Yep. Yeah.
- 49:21So with that being said, we're going to talk about what exactly
- 49:25happened in this movie, because we've really danced around it
- 49:28this whole time. Pointer.
- 49:29Section. To the spoiler section right
- 49:33after this. The greatest trick?
- 49:36Houston, we have a problem. I am the father.
- 49:39I see dead people. The devil ever pulled.
- 49:42Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.
- 49:45Was convincing the world. You can't handle the truth.
- 49:49He didn't exist, No. What's in the box?
- 49:55All right, we're on the other side of spoilers.
- 49:56We are going to talk a little more about the exact plot of
- 50:01Always and maybe what were the niggly bits, the picky nits for
- 50:08Always. Jesse, why don't you start us
- 50:11off and say why you downrated the movie?
- 50:15Well, one of the big things about this movie is that you
- 50:18find out that there is a surgery that she can do to fix her
- 50:24eyesight. And while I don't think this
- 50:27movie does it maliciously, they still contribute to the really
- 50:31kind of tired trope of disabled person gets better and becomes
- 50:36not disabled. Yeah.
- 50:38Like, and then they're just like, fine afterwards, that sort
- 50:41of thing. And so that's like kind of
- 50:43really where like a lot of my, like, not, not the greatest.
- 50:48I don't think it's doing it viciously, though.
- 50:51Like it's just not like it's not like they're being terrible
- 50:54about it, but I just like it makes me feel weird when you see
- 50:58that happen in a drama because it's like, why can't she's
- 51:02perfectly fine disabled as well? Yeah, she needed a $30,000
- 51:08surgery to save her eyesight or she would go blind within a
- 51:11month. And I was like, OK, OK, let's
- 51:13settle down. Like within a month, it was like
- 51:16they had a hard deadline on when she could do the surgery and
- 51:20they needed the money to buy a cornea from the United States.
- 51:24I was like, OK, that was that was annoying.
- 51:28Yeah, and I mean like it. I guess it isn't as bad.
- 51:31It could be because of the circumstances of her accident,
- 51:34because it was like. A car wasn't like she was born.
- 51:38Yeah, it wasn't like a slow act. It was an impact in it being
- 51:42very relatively new as well. So like, yeah, if she wasn't
- 51:46fully like had been disabled that much, but it's still, it's
- 51:50kind of like we could have had them, you know, she'd still be
- 51:54that way and it'd be perfectly fine.
- 51:56Right, I agree. I agree, they didn't need to
- 51:58save her eyesight imminently. It's almost like they actually
- 52:02just like traded the disabilities because he ends up
- 52:06disabled at the end of. Correct.
- 52:07I mean, that's part of the melodrama.
- 52:09Like he's bought at the end of. The movie like she's now fine
- 52:15but but he can't. Cost of him.
- 52:17Anymore without physical, without walking aids, but I'm
- 52:20like, all right, So like it's not like they said disability
- 52:24cured. It was just sort of like it just
- 52:26kind of transferred a little. Yeah.
- 52:28And they do like make it like it's very apparent that both the
- 52:32characters like the the characters the way they are no
- 52:36matter what. So there is that, yes.
- 52:39Yes, 100% And maybe there's a touch of like he needs to pay
- 52:44for the sin of causing the accident inadvertently and
- 52:49there's a fate swapping thing that happens between them and
- 52:53Ignon and all the this like really sad destiny that they
- 52:57have to fall in love with each other.
- 52:59But like he killed her parents. So like all of this stuff like.
- 53:02Technically he he did it. That's the thing he technically
- 53:05he didn't, but he felt guilty for.
- 53:09Setting a chain of it was. It was a series of events beyond
- 53:13his real control at this point. Like yes and.
- 53:17She felt guilty for killing her parents too, which also not your
- 53:20fault. Like if I saw a man fire
- 53:24dropping out of the window, I would look at that too.
- 53:27He would. Have gone the same exact way for
- 53:28me. That just feels like they you
- 53:30like everything happening in that sequence of events.
- 53:33It's just like the universe wanted these two people dead and
- 53:36no matter what anyone did, it was happening because those are
- 53:40very unlikely series of events that.
- 53:42Went just so odd when they played the whole thing in
- 53:45sequence. I was like yeah what the fuck.
- 53:47Even like that was weird. That's.
- 53:49Like, really bizarre. And for anyone who's like
- 53:53listening to this, who was never planning on watching the movie,
- 53:56he was like a debt collector. And just like Rocky.
- 54:00Yeah, and so he's trying to collect debts from this guy.
- 54:03And then the guy's like, I instead of this, I'm going to
- 54:08tell you live your life right and set myself a flame and.
- 54:11Jump out of a window. And jump out of a window, which
- 54:15the visual of me jumping out of a window will startle a truck
- 54:20driver like fair. Enough.
- 54:23Who will then veer into a car of a family going and then I'm
- 54:27like, this is there's no way Who's also like, what the hell?
- 54:31Who was that fireball falling from this hotel?
- 54:34And it's like, these are a series of very unlikely
- 54:37occurrences that you can like, listen, should he have been a
- 54:40debt collector? Probably no.
- 54:42But at the end of that, he is not responsible for that man
- 54:45setting himself on fire and jumping out a window like.
- 54:48It's not like he collected that's how he.
- 54:50Collected. It's not like he licked the
- 54:52flame, you know, like. When he.
- 54:54Tries to say. That turns around and that guy's
- 54:57in the window frame. Don't make gasoline on himself.
- 55:01I'm like, I mean, what do you even do?
- 55:04Like. Yeah, you can't do anything.
- 55:06Can you touch him? Oh yeah, and.
- 55:09Then also the guy technically framed Sochi sub for attacked
- 55:13murder. He.
- 55:15Was like a whole so like he doesn't goes to jail and he's
- 55:19like, I tried to save this dude. Like did I listen?
- 55:22Did I beat him up? Yes, OK.
- 55:24Yeah, there was a shaking, but I didn't set him in a fire and
- 55:28throw him out the window. I could not try to keep it that
- 55:30by himself. Yeah.
- 55:33It's so wild. So that's like the end of the.
- 55:35Movie that when that's like and. For anyone being like, oh, this
- 55:39movie is so cliche. It's like, oh, you predicted
- 55:41that you predicted. Wow, incredible work.
- 55:47You must be a genius. I mean, I guess the
- 55:51predictability thing is that maybe he had something, some
- 55:54crazy backward thing to do with her accident that made her blind
- 56:01and killed her parents. Which is what makes it movie
- 56:05worthy to tell. Because if you take that away,
- 56:08why are we talking? About Why do we care?
- 56:11Like. It's just like we're just like
- 56:12this is just a slice of life about about a guy in a blind
- 56:16girl dating, which would be very.
- 56:17Cute but like. I would.
- 56:19Enjoy that wedding, but that's not the job writing.
- 56:22I couldn't have said it better myself.
- 56:24Like why are we even watching that?
- 56:26Because that's the whole thing of the third act is like he has
- 56:30to do something because he feels like he killed her parents and
- 56:35made her blind. Like he's somehow to blame.
- 56:39And yeah. I mean, did he pull a noble
- 56:42idiocy? He sure did.
- 56:43A. 100%. But it's also so up.
- 56:47He's really good. At.
- 56:49So, so he's, he's really, it's in his contract.
- 56:52You know. I want to this is what I have to
- 56:55have. Sacrifice myself for no friggin
- 56:57reason. I want to pretend that cell
- 57:00phones do not. Do not exist.
- 57:01Oh my God. Oh.
- 57:03My my favorite thing is that he goes to do this illegal fight in
- 57:07Thailand and the whole thing is like this whole mysterious
- 57:11process for getting over there. They're like burn all of your
- 57:14docks. There can be nothing, No traces
- 57:18of you left here in Korea. Why?
- 57:20I'm like, yeah, like. Yeah, could have just been like,
- 57:23oh, just going back to Thailand. People go on vacation in
- 57:26Thailand. Like all the time like.
- 57:29Yeah. You could just get on a plane
- 57:31you can like, it's not hard to get a visa to really like land.
- 57:36They have a booming tourism industry.
- 57:38That's like a big part of their economy.
- 57:40Legit baffled by the whole thing and then he does it.
- 57:42There's like a whole inferno outside the house, dumpster
- 57:45fire, literally of him burning all evidence of himself.
- 57:49I was like, OK, Edward. It was very Edward column of
- 57:52him. Like, I'm leaving her with
- 57:55nothing. It's just the skin of a killer,
- 57:59so calm down. Buddy, calm down.
- 58:01I think for me, that's the part that took it down a bit for me
- 58:05because I mean, if you watch any kinds of sports movies and
- 58:10sports stuff, they could have had the exact same plot line
- 58:14without making that this right. It could have been we're going
- 58:19to pay you to lose the fight, right?
- 58:21Like to take a dive or we're going to, which is a super
- 58:25common trope, especially in boxing movies and dramas and
- 58:29stuff. It just felt like they took it
- 58:32up to a notch where it did not need to go for the story.
- 58:36It didn't add anything to the story.
- 58:39It just like. And even if the point was the
- 58:42smuggle, it's crazy, like they needed a smuggle bag, whatever.
- 58:48It's like we didn't have to be doing all that.
- 58:51Yeah, yeah. I think everybody's just like.
- 58:55You could have just sent him to Thailand on like a fake vacation
- 58:59and then him bring back, you know, like the little tchotchke
- 59:02or whatever that's like smuggling.
- 59:04Like we didn't have to be. We didn't have to send him.
- 59:06There was just too. Many steps going on.
- 59:09Right, it was. Like several of them.
- 59:12And it still had the exact same movie and the exact same story.
- 59:16You know, like conceptually anyway.
- 59:18It's like living living through a time where we see how stupid
- 59:22the average villainy is in real life.
- 59:24I'm like, this villainy is too complicated.
- 59:27It's. Very.
- 59:27Complicated. I will say this, it is the most
- 59:31complicated part of the movie. Yeah, yeah, because he had to
- 59:34win the fight against some like crazy guy out of.
- 59:38Time. Completely out of his weight
- 59:41class, by the way. And that guy had like 30 lbs on
- 59:44him. No easy.
- 59:46And then the guy is overtly like, you see a guy like getting
- 59:51dragged out of the Octagon in the hallway.
- 59:54Very. Dramatic.
- 59:55And I'm like, what is this? Like they're already talking
- 59:59this guy up and saying like everybody he fights dies, he
- 1:00:02kills everybody, he's a killer and then he wins the fight and
- 1:00:06only then. And he can get a literal diamond
- 1:00:11that's inside a snow globe. And it's like, this is so
- 1:00:14complicated. For what reason?
- 1:00:16I was like, okay, talk to me about the snow globe, talk to me
- 1:00:19about the diamond. Like what is up with that?
- 1:00:24Like I have a lot of questions. And the immediate question after
- 1:00:27that is he's going to get jumped.
- 1:00:29He's like, yeah, he will get jumped.
- 1:00:31He's marked, of course he is. Like otherwise why would they be
- 1:00:35like, no, you got to come in on the private port.
- 1:00:37Like we got to smuggle, Why are you smuggling?
- 1:00:38He's a citizen. You can just fly.
- 1:00:41In Why the hell would you go through the trouble of giving
- 1:00:44him another identity, another passport?
- 1:00:46He's masquerading as somebody else, memorize your name and
- 1:00:49address and all this stuff. They tell him to do this stuff
- 1:00:51and then they smuggle his ass out of Thailand.
- 1:00:54I was like, what was, What was all that?
- 1:00:56It's like, OK, I get that he needed another identity because
- 1:00:58he was an ex-con and you can't like go to other countries as an
- 1:01:02ex-con, whatever, OK. But you can still just get
- 1:01:05someone a new identity and just take the plane, fly out of the
- 1:01:09plane. Like dude.
- 1:01:11You don't need to be doing all this.
- 1:01:12Especially when you like you have this tchotchke like
- 1:01:14souvenir like clearly like. I feel like the props person was
- 1:01:20not actually told the full context.
- 1:01:23Of like they were like, OK, so a dime and they're like, yeah, but
- 1:01:27like. An obscene like to be like, Oh
- 1:01:30yeah, they're smuggling this boxer smuggling a diamond.
- 1:01:32It's like, oh, obviously I would make it look like a souvenir.
- 1:01:35That's the smartest way. And it's like, and in in this
- 1:01:37prop person defense, that was the smartest way to do this.
- 1:01:41Then it was just like he could have just had it in a bag.
- 1:01:44They're just gonna smuggle his entire body as well.
- 1:01:47It's a large. It's a large.
- 1:01:49Teddy bear at this point. OK, same thing.
- 1:01:51It could. Have been literally.
- 1:01:53You're gonna put it on like a charm, like, like.
- 1:01:55You're gonna just put it on a gaudy chain necklace?
- 1:01:58Like the fact. That it was in a snow globe and
- 1:02:02then he gets hit by a car and goes flying through the air and
- 1:02:04you don't see a big splash of water because it doesn't smash.
- 1:02:08Survives when he lands on it. That is for some.
- 1:02:12Really hardiest snow globe. I feel so smashed from like a 2
- 1:02:16foot drop like this is the hardest I've.
- 1:02:18Looked at a snow globe wrong and it just starts leaking.
- 1:02:21So got hit by a quick dude. They really be doing the most.
- 1:02:26Here, it was so great. I loved it.
- 1:02:29But drama, yeah, we could poke holes in this thing all day.
- 1:02:33But I guess let's go back to the beginning, because the beginning
- 1:02:38is I guess we're the most of the love story is and the their meet
- 1:02:42cute is is really nice as well. She mistakes them for the old
- 1:02:46man that used to work at the parking attendant or in the
- 1:02:49parking garage because she used to watch K dramas with the old
- 1:02:52man all night. And I'm like.
- 1:02:53Incredible. Incredible.
- 1:02:55Like just so cute. Yeah, adorable.
- 1:02:57But she's blind, obviously. And his name is Jean Marcellino.
- 1:03:05I completely forgot about that. Yeah, I was like, who?
- 1:03:08The baptismal name, Yeah, this is baptismal name because I was
- 1:03:12raised by nuns. Yeah, Catholic orphanage.
- 1:03:15So it's like, of course they gave him like a friggin Italian
- 1:03:18name or not. Man, I just love that she was
- 1:03:21like, oh, you're a foreigner. And he was like, Nah, man, I'm
- 1:03:23Korean. She's like your name.
- 1:03:26Is. Jean Marcelino.
- 1:03:28He's. Like, just Catholic.
- 1:03:30Just kidding. Yeah, I love, I love when he's
- 1:03:33sort of like complaining to the Nanobright and she's like, it's
- 1:03:36a beautiful name. It sounds like like an actor.
- 1:03:38She's. Like he's like, yeah, but like,
- 1:03:41it's kind of stupid. But also I'm Korean, it's like.
- 1:03:46Gonna, you know, like anything. I could have been named
- 1:03:51anything. Yeah, God, the times when
- 1:03:54they're sitting in there and watching the whatever drama it
- 1:03:58is. I love that she is a flirt.
- 1:04:03I love that she's a flirt because she initially asks if
- 1:04:07the people on screen are wearing shoes.
- 1:04:09But the way that the Korean language works, he was like,
- 1:04:11yeah, of course I'm wearing shoes.
- 1:04:13And she's like, no, no, no. Talk to me about the shoes that
- 1:04:16the character on screen is wearing.
- 1:04:17Describe them to me. And obviously, this is bringing
- 1:04:21her so much joy to know what's going on on screen.
- 1:04:24Like, tell me what they're doing.
- 1:04:25Tell me what her hair looks like and all this stuff.
- 1:04:28Another knight rolls around and she asks him if the male lead in
- 1:04:33the drama they're watching is handsome.
- 1:04:35He goes, of course he's an actor.
- 1:04:37She goes, no, no, no, you, I'm talking about you.
- 1:04:41And I was like, she's. So smooth.
- 1:04:44Like she does, she does all the work at the beginning, right?
- 1:04:49I am going to get this man. I know nothing about him.
- 1:04:53All I know is he's very poor. I made me sounds cute.
- 1:04:56That sounds. A.
- 1:04:58Nice with the concert tickets was so.
- 1:05:00Smooth. But she's like, oh, this is the
- 1:05:03thank you for carrying me up all those stairs.
- 1:05:06And he's like, oh, there's two and I don't have any friends.
- 1:05:09And she's like, that's too bad, you'll have to take me.
- 1:05:12And you're like, oh Dang, smooth I was.
- 1:05:17Like he can't get out of that one.
- 1:05:20Not too good. She's.
- 1:05:21Too good and. She shows up with that cute
- 1:05:23little terrible perm. Love it.
- 1:05:25So cute and the hairdressers are begging her like please don't
- 1:05:30get the drama cut, don't get the drama haircut that that female
- 1:05:34lead has or whatever. It's like we're going to give
- 1:05:36you the Parisian perm. Ain't no one in Paris had that
- 1:05:39perm. Oh my gosh, ain't no one in
- 1:05:41Paris been ragging that perm. It was.
- 1:05:44It was. Adorable.
- 1:05:45It was adorable, though. She.
- 1:05:46Was cute. It was.
- 1:05:47Cute. She looked cute, but thank God
- 1:05:50it wasn't like for the rest of the movie.
- 1:05:51That thing was there. He reveals that he was in prison
- 1:05:55for four years and three months after he quit boxing, he beat
- 1:05:59people up to collect their debts.
- 1:06:01And I was like, OK, Rocky, tell me more.
- 1:06:05How did you guys? I almost, the one time I almost
- 1:06:07cried was when he insulted her on the date because she had just
- 1:06:13finished saying I came here with my dad.
- 1:06:15This is very special to come back to this BBQ spot and she
- 1:06:20wanted to know more about him. She's asking like, oh, like what
- 1:06:22did you do in the past? What were you like?
- 1:06:24He must have done bad things. He took it sideways.
- 1:06:27He took it so sideways, her little jab.
- 1:06:30And he was like, well, I can see what you ate for breakfast
- 1:06:33because it's all over your shirt.
- 1:06:35Just basically insulting the fact that she's blind.
- 1:06:39Listen, sometimes people, they say mean things when they don't
- 1:06:41actually mean them because they're hurting on the inside.
- 1:06:44And I think that's his character in a nutshell.
- 1:06:47But that is forgivable. Yes, yes.
- 1:06:50But like, he does make it up to her in many, many ways going.
- 1:06:54Forward. He does.
- 1:06:55He does. He's.
- 1:06:57Also just not good with relationships.
- 1:06:59Yeah, he's not. He doesn't know how to talk to
- 1:07:00anyone. Yes.
- 1:07:02Yeah. He was in prison for four years
- 1:07:04or three months. Yeah, specifically for.
- 1:07:07He's a boxer. Attempted murder that he did not
- 1:07:10attempt to murder anyone. I would hope that they didn't
- 1:07:14book him for attempted murder, but.
- 1:07:15That guy probably assault, but yeah.
- 1:07:18Yeah, but that guy literally was like anyway, live a good life
- 1:07:22Deuces and was a flaming ball when he fell from the window.
- 1:07:27And he's still hanging out at the convent.
- 1:07:29That's the thing, really. Is like he's alive.
- 1:07:32Like in any way whatever. So it seems like the guy, I
- 1:07:35forgave him, yeah. It seemed like he was.
- 1:07:38He was like, OK, maybe it maybe I was a little too harsh setting
- 1:07:41myself on fire and setting you up for the fall.
- 1:07:42I feel like that was on me. Like we both made mistakes.
- 1:07:45We both, we both went a little too far.
- 1:07:50Like, listen, we can just move on.
- 1:07:51From I lost my head a little bit.
- 1:07:53We all went a little crazy. That night don't worry about it.
- 1:07:57I will say, going back to him insulting her for being blind,
- 1:08:00if this was a currently airing cave drama I feel like the
- 1:08:04discourse around that would sink the battleship.
- 1:08:11Yeah, because these days people don't really have, this is very
- 1:08:15unfortunate because they don't have patience for seeing
- 1:08:18characters make mistakes anymore.
- 1:08:20And immediately they want to just cancel everyone.
- 1:08:23And it's just like people do shitty things and you, you
- 1:08:27yourself, person out there who's like, oh, I can't believe that
- 1:08:30they would do this. It's like, you've also done
- 1:08:31shitty things. So maybe like let the deemed
- 1:08:34themselves a? Little doing it just to do it.
- 1:08:36He he felt like he was being attacked and so he attacked
- 1:08:39back. Yeah.
- 1:08:41It was in and it was almost. Immediately afterwards, a Paul
- 1:08:45like, yeah, is realizes that he crossed a line and goes and
- 1:08:50talks to her, you know, and they work it out.
- 1:08:53So it's not like, it's not one of those things where it's like,
- 1:08:56he says it and he stands by it and he wallows in his like
- 1:09:01crappiness, which we also see in a, a lot of Korean media and,
- 1:09:06and we're are supposed to forgive like, and, and people
- 1:09:10don't complain about. So it's, yeah, it, it seems like
- 1:09:14we, there's a, a, a thing where it's like, oh, we're going to
- 1:09:18cancel this character for one tiny thing, but we're not going
- 1:09:21to cancel this person for the myriad of terrible things.
- 1:09:25And you're like, OK, I'm lost, like.
- 1:09:29If if it was a red flag type thing, an indicator of some
- 1:09:32huge, like personality, like some deep thing that he was
- 1:09:35going to keep bringing up. And but that's that's obviously
- 1:09:38not what happened between them. They weren't using that as an
- 1:09:41indicator of like, oh, he's always going to go after some
- 1:09:43aspect of her blindness or whatever.
- 1:09:46If it was a drama and you have 20 episodes to fill, if he's a
- 1:09:49trash character, that would probably come back again and it
- 1:09:52would be, yeah, a problem and worth talking about.
- 1:09:54But. But then he's felt bad enough
- 1:09:57about it that he spent the rest of the movie just absolutely
- 1:10:00doing the most. Dedicate his entire life to her.
- 1:10:06OK, that's. Yeah.
- 1:10:07All right. OK.
- 1:10:08Yeah, she almost gets raped. There's a rape attempt in like
- 1:10:15the first third or so of this movie.
- 1:10:18Her boss, who was being really pervy with her, a lot of sexual
- 1:10:22harassment happening in the workplace.
- 1:10:23She's like this telemarketer, I think.
- 1:10:28Yeah, she's basically like call center and the guy is just, you
- 1:10:32can see it from a mile away. You're like, something's going
- 1:10:35to happen here. But when he shows up at her
- 1:10:37house, I was like, oh, right. This was like really violating
- 1:10:43because he just shows up. She's fucking blind.
- 1:10:46She cannot see that he's in the corner and only hears him after
- 1:10:51she's opened the door. I was like, Oh my God.
- 1:10:53Like this is like worst case scenario, he just invites
- 1:10:56himself inside. There's like nothing that she
- 1:10:59can do. She's so helpless in this
- 1:11:02situation. And it was really hard to watch
- 1:11:04this on on rewatch. But of course, you know, he
- 1:11:08comes to her rescue so shows up just the right time and kicks
- 1:11:13this man's ass like breaks his arm and it's like a really
- 1:11:17violent beat down deserved. What do you guys think of this?
- 1:11:22I. I think it's really interesting
- 1:11:24because I think it highlights more than like in the terms of
- 1:11:26the story, yeah, but it highlights an actual societal
- 1:11:31problem faced by people with disabilities who this happens to
- 1:11:36often, like more often than I think people realize, because
- 1:11:39they're very easy to take advantage of and very easy to
- 1:11:42discount. So I think it was actually very
- 1:11:44interesting to show it because most people don't have Sochi sub
- 1:11:48to bust in. That's.
- 1:11:52True. Yeah.
- 1:11:52And I think we all, we all know what would have happened if she
- 1:11:56had been raped, if she had gone to the police, right?
- 1:11:59They would have been like, well, you can't ID your right.
- 1:12:02Like we know they probably wouldn't do anything even if she
- 1:12:05could ID him. But that's going to be the
- 1:12:07excuse they used to not even bother looking into it.
- 1:12:10Because we can't ruin this man's life based on the fact that you
- 1:12:16think you recognized his voice, right?
- 1:12:20And that would have been a totally different story with the
- 1:12:22Soji sub character just going and murdering the guy and then
- 1:12:24it that would. Yeah, I mean, you know, like it
- 1:12:26would have been a very different plot possible then.
- 1:12:30Then we become a crime thriller then.
- 1:12:32We. Become, you know, like midnight
- 1:12:35starring Soji sub. Like that's a different energy.
- 1:12:39I think it also is supposed to also showing Soji sub what
- 1:12:43stakes she has in that they're so much higher, especially when
- 1:12:48you kind of tack on when she gets upset with him because
- 1:12:51she's like, I'm going to lose my job because it really is.
- 1:12:54She has a very few options for a job.
- 1:12:58So she can like be on her own and be her own person.
- 1:13:02And so it's just like this very compounded thing of like how
- 1:13:05much this one thing about her, like really affects her, not
- 1:13:10just because she can't see what's out in front of her, but
- 1:13:13like she has all these things that could really kind of
- 1:13:16destroy her. And that he, having not been
- 1:13:19with anybody who is disabled that way, doesn't understand.
- 1:13:24Yeah. Yeah, I love when he asks her
- 1:13:27why do you put up with the sexual harassment?
- 1:13:30Why do you put up with the harassment?
- 1:13:32And she says it's because I need to survive.
- 1:13:35And I was like, that is very, very powerful of a statement for
- 1:13:40her to make and for her to obviously, like you said, get
- 1:13:42upset with him because her job is at stake.
- 1:13:45This man has more power over her than he anticipated, right, than
- 1:13:51soldiers have anticipated. When he came in and started like
- 1:13:54swinging the job that she has, she quits it, which I thought
- 1:14:00was very interesting. I didn't remember her quitting
- 1:14:02her job. So on the rewatch when she says
- 1:14:05I quit and she's basically like Take Me Out for the weekend, I
- 1:14:11was like, this is interesting. What it the movie doesn't go
- 1:14:15into this. If this was AK drama it would
- 1:14:17what the hell is she doing? Like how is she supporting
- 1:14:20herself? Yeah, I think it was it was sort
- 1:14:22of to show that she in a way that her character now trusts
- 1:14:26his character cuz he said like I'll, I'll take.
- 1:14:28Care of yes. He was like, I'll do it, I'll
- 1:14:30take care of you. Yeah, this was like which is
- 1:14:33start with her official relationship.
- 1:14:35Yeah, right. So it's her way of saying.
- 1:14:37I trust you. You're gonna have to take care
- 1:14:40of me. Yeah.
- 1:14:41All right, Marcelino, let's do this.
- 1:14:43Yeah. Marcelino.
- 1:14:46He gets her a golden retriever puppy to keep her company and be
- 1:14:50her seeing eye dog in the future.
- 1:14:53I yeah, couldn't handle it. It was so cute.
- 1:14:59Just had a dog into anything. I know.
- 1:15:01Yeah, here the little golden retriever puppy like just added.
- 1:15:06So cute, so much the story to everything.
- 1:15:10It added nothing in everything. Nothing in everything, but I
- 1:15:16think it's when he like disable proofed her house, you know, no
- 1:15:20more door cells, rounded the table edges, optimized the
- 1:15:24furniture layout. And then he installed a window
- 1:15:27in her bedroom so she can get sunlight because the one thing
- 1:15:29she can see is light, light or the absence of light.
- 1:15:33I was like, I might start crying because it was such a a moment
- 1:15:40of him understanding her, her struggles, how she needs to live
- 1:15:44and how she needs to thrive. Yeah, and also I kind of knowing
- 1:15:49that the screenwriter was the screen screenwriter as my
- 1:15:52annoying brother and that had the exact like they had a very
- 1:15:55similar seen in that one. Because that's also for anyone
- 1:15:59who doesn't know also about a brother take a half brother
- 1:16:02taking care of his blind recently de blinded younger
- 1:16:06brother. And they had the same sort of
- 1:16:07like construction zone and. It's also like really symbolic
- 1:16:13of where they're both at at that point in the relationship too,
- 1:16:17right? Like he is, everything's getting
- 1:16:19brighter. Everything in my life, like her
- 1:16:22whole apartment looks nicer and brighter and cleaner.
- 1:16:26And so does he and so does his life.
- 1:16:29And so does like, it's just sort of like a, oh, this is our
- 1:16:32turning point. We're we're choosing not to live
- 1:16:36in the dark anymore. We're choosing to choose
- 1:16:39happiness and light whatever together.
- 1:16:43Yes, because even though she is such a bubbly personality and
- 1:16:47she it's taking her, her relatively recent blindness very
- 1:16:52well, the way that she lives in her apartment is in darkness.
- 1:16:57And even when she's sitting there singing to herself by
- 1:17:01herself at the beginning of the movie, the apartment is kind of
- 1:17:05like a little bit in shambles. Like there's a flood happening
- 1:17:07and she doesn't even realize it. So there was room for
- 1:17:11improvement definitely in her life.
- 1:17:12And then obviously in his life, he was stupid, depressed, and
- 1:17:18all he had was the turtle, which, you know, fine, if you
- 1:17:21have, if you have a pet, love it for you.
- 1:17:22But he needed somebody, right? They both needed each other in
- 1:17:28different ways. And they brought, like you said,
- 1:17:32Amanda, like so much light into each other's lives.
- 1:17:35It was a beautiful little montage of them falling in love
- 1:17:39and getting together and living together.
- 1:17:42The exchange of the pebbles thing by the river.
- 1:17:45I was like, all right, fine. Like let's give each other
- 1:17:46rocks. Hey, isn't that just what giving
- 1:17:50someone a diamond ring is? Same.
- 1:17:52Thing in a sense. In a sense, yeah.
- 1:17:54Yeah. The first kiss between them was
- 1:17:5651 minutes into the movie. I was like, I got to pause this.
- 1:18:01This is 51. Slow burn.
- 1:18:03A little bit of slow burn. Yeah.
- 1:18:04You know, we'd love to see it and.
- 1:18:07You know, it was so tender, like everything between them is just
- 1:18:10so tender. And then we get the reveal.
- 1:18:13The dramatic, crazy circumstance reveal we were.
- 1:18:19Talking about earlier oh, here's a nitpick that I have OK,
- 1:18:23because they have all like I said before, there's some
- 1:18:25training montages of him getting back into boxing actually not
- 1:18:29boxing mixed martial arts. So he wants to be like a
- 1:18:32reformed boxer, get into MMA now because that's the friendly
- 1:18:35thing that's going to pay the bills.
- 1:18:37And at one point his Mickey tells him we spent all of this
- 1:18:42effort trying to legitimize ourselves and trying to get into
- 1:18:45the league. And then he goes and does this
- 1:18:48illegal fight in Thailand. So I was like, OK, why go
- 1:18:52through the rigmarole of all of this if.
- 1:18:56They wasn't going to give them money as fast.
- 1:18:59Yeah, the money wasn't going to come immediately.
- 1:19:01The 30 grand was hanging over his head, but it was just like,
- 1:19:06okay, his dreams don't matter, his effort doesn't matter.
- 1:19:10Like he just basically got into fighting shape so that he could
- 1:19:14get shanked on the way back. This shows, you know, that shows
- 1:19:19the unpredictability and pointlessness.
- 1:19:22It's a very nihilistic situation.
- 1:19:24That is true. That is true.
- 1:19:25Nothing. Matters working.
- 1:19:27Nothing matters. Also, I thought it was a nice
- 1:19:29touch that in the night that she gets in the accident with her
- 1:19:34parents, they get hit by the white truck of doom.
- 1:19:37I was like, oh, the white. I know you.
- 1:19:39The white truck. Yeah.
- 1:19:42An old friend. Friend.
- 1:19:43You know Kim Juan, Hey, just everywhere.
- 1:19:47Raccoon your back. Listen, did anyone else almost
- 1:19:53throw their phone across a room when the two year time jump
- 1:19:56happened? Because for some reason didn't
- 1:20:01expect a two year time jump and I'd already seen the movie.
- 1:20:04So two years goes by. She is now doing like selling
- 1:20:09her custom pottery. She claims that she's married.
- 1:20:14And she is a part time like medical masseuse on the side,
- 1:20:20like a licensed massage therapist that goes to the
- 1:20:23hospital and does like a deed every so often.
- 1:20:26And he is in the inpatient facility that she is doing
- 1:20:33massages at this afternoon, non verbal with a horrific facial
- 1:20:38scar from I don't know what exactly I guess the fall onto.
- 1:20:42The I guess the road, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:20:44From the car hitting. Him wasn't.
- 1:20:46After they sat him, they roughed up his face a bit.
- 1:20:50I completely forgot that he hit got hit by the car.
- 1:20:53So I was like, he got stabbed. Why does he have a face scar and
- 1:20:56his leg is all messed up? What if we and there was like,
- 1:20:59Oh yeah, there was a car he got hit by a car.
- 1:21:02I. Really.
- 1:21:03I really tried to make sure the job was done and still failed.
- 1:21:07So I was like but Rd. rash two years later it looks like that I
- 1:21:13just. Again, Yeah, like it looks like
- 1:21:15he got burned. And I was like, yeah, remember
- 1:21:18him getting. Burned and you missed the the
- 1:21:20after scene where they're like OK now set him on fire.
- 1:21:24Maybe I cut that out. They're like this.
- 1:21:26Is too much. They're like, we can only have
- 1:21:28one person burning in this movie.
- 1:21:30We can't have two. Yeah, it felt like something was
- 1:21:33missing. Like, I miss AB because the
- 1:21:34facial scar was kind of like, like too much.
- 1:21:37But anyway, she doesn't recognize him.
- 1:21:39OK, This is the melodrama of it. She doesn't recognize him
- 1:21:42because now she can see, right? She's got her eyesight back and
- 1:21:46she's giving him a massage and something does flash across her.
- 1:21:51Face. Yeah, there's a brief moment, a
- 1:21:53brief. She's like.
- 1:21:54I know this back, I've massaged this back before.
- 1:21:58I don't know. Again, I don't know how, but
- 1:22:01it's the the kismet of it all and he's clenching that fucking
- 1:22:07Pebble like his life depends on it because it's been 2 years
- 1:22:11he's transferred facilities he's gone through.
- 1:22:14But he still has the the rock. He still has that rock.
- 1:22:19He's Arthur. Fisting around that rock
- 1:22:20wouldn't. Believe I was like, not the
- 1:22:24rock, Easy the dog. We would not have a happy ending
- 1:22:29without Easy the Golden because easy new clutch.
- 1:22:33And the turtle. And the turtle.
- 1:22:35And the turtle. The turtle.
- 1:22:36The animals are really bringing it this.
- 1:22:39Yes, see, we love, we love a good animal sidekick being like
- 1:22:43the real dimensional thing. I don't know what his diagnosis
- 1:22:49was. I don't know what he was
- 1:22:50suffering from. I don't know if he couldn't walk
- 1:22:52before. And because her presence
- 1:22:55invigorated him, he was like, I'm going to relearn to walk.
- 1:22:58After two years, it happened. And he walked out of that
- 1:23:02hospital on one crutch, not 2. They gave him one.
- 1:23:06OK. They're like, you can only
- 1:23:09afford half. I was like OK just give him a
- 1:23:12peg leg at this point because why?
- 1:23:14This is painful to watch him use the one crutch, but one crutch
- 1:23:19makes it to this pottery shop that's selling her pieces.
- 1:23:24He buys some night Jasmine, which again, that was the plant
- 1:23:27that was in the the parking lot attendant booth that she was
- 1:23:31like, you got to feed the night Jasmine once a week or whatever.
- 1:23:34Anyway, he buys some night Jasmine in a piece of pottery
- 1:23:37that she made, and he takes. He literally robs back.
- 1:23:41He steals. His turtle back, he steals his.
- 1:23:43Turtle back. It's like that's her turtle now
- 1:23:47dude, like. It gets too weird.
- 1:23:49Leave. Her some terrific.
- 1:23:51Take care of it. Come on.
- 1:23:54My forfeited the turtle. Yeah, she's been taking care of
- 1:23:56this turtle. Like I feel like in a court of
- 1:23:59law that would be considered her turtle.
- 1:24:01It would be and matter of fact, she took the turtle to the shop
- 1:24:04because she was like, hey, the turtle's not feeling so good, I
- 1:24:06need to take it to the vet. Yeah, he's not going to take it.
- 1:24:09Kidnapped. Kidnapped and then released into
- 1:24:12the wildest sick turtle. That turtle.
- 1:24:14Is going. To die.
- 1:24:16Dead did not survive. That is a pet shop turtle and
- 1:24:22you just released it into the wild.
- 1:24:25Listen, when he grabbed the turtle with his bare hands, I
- 1:24:27was like, no, those have salmonella.
- 1:24:29Oh my God, you just got. Yeah.
- 1:24:31Salmonella is the least of this big problem.
- 1:24:38He makes it all the way to like that river that they had visited
- 1:24:41before and he releases the turtle, but she goes back to the
- 1:24:47shop. She forgot something and the dog
- 1:24:49is going nuts because they ran into him on the street and the
- 1:24:54dog knows the dog recognizes him and once they're back in the
- 1:24:59shop and she's like, he bought night Jasmine, he took my
- 1:25:02turtle. All bets are off.
- 1:25:04Lassie. Where's?
- 1:25:05Timmy in the Whale. Timmy in the whale Lassie I
- 1:25:08need. To find this man we love a good
- 1:25:12dog sidekick like. I forgot how dramatic it was
- 1:25:16when she runs out of the shop and tries to run to find him and
- 1:25:20she is wailing in the. Streets.
- 1:25:23She's so sad. Yeah.
- 1:25:25She's so depressed. I forgot.
- 1:25:28I I always love those scenes in movies you do because I love
- 1:25:32those scenes in movies because I'm like someone would stop and
- 1:25:36make. Sure, this woman I.
- 1:25:37Would be. Like or at least be like how?
- 1:25:39Can I help you? Yeah, she's.
- 1:25:41Clutching, scaring me, a Stonewall and screaming.
- 1:25:44Culturally, like the way they express grief is a little bit
- 1:25:47louder than a lot of that's. True.
- 1:25:49A lot like on the street, you might see that sometimes if
- 1:25:53someone is going through a moment of grief, yeah, it still
- 1:25:56will be Starling and you still would maybe check on on that
- 1:25:58person. And it's sort of like, I'm not
- 1:25:59disagreeing. All I was going to say was it
- 1:26:02might seem super over the top if you're just if you haven't seen
- 1:26:07any of the K dramas where it's common in funeral settings and
- 1:26:10stuff or when someone is notified of a death and that
- 1:26:13there is wailing like it is very common.
- 1:26:16Correct. And I think it's a really big
- 1:26:19thing emotionally, right? Like she, she probably has even
- 1:26:23convinced herself that he's dead.
- 1:26:25If he hasn't come back to her, maybe it's because he's dead,
- 1:26:28you know, and, and to have this, not only is he alive, he
- 1:26:33remembers, he remembers me, he remembers night Jasmine, he he's
- 1:26:37there. And it's just probably she's
- 1:26:40been holding it all back for so long that now it's broken,
- 1:26:44right? And.
- 1:26:45It's just also need that coming out, that desperation to be
- 1:26:48larger than the amount of people that are on the street as well.
- 1:26:52It's like a a common film technique as well.
- 1:26:55Just to be like this is how serious this is.
- 1:26:57There's swarms of people around and yet she is the loudest and
- 1:27:02she is the most present. This is like how much of an
- 1:27:06issue finding him is. I almost expected when she fell
- 1:27:11sobbing on the wall that like, you know, we had seen him
- 1:27:15walking down the stairs or whatever.
- 1:27:17I thought maybe he was gonna hear that and come back because
- 1:27:22the the sound of her cries was going to be so heartbreaking to
- 1:27:25him or something, but sadly, no. Then we get the very pretty.
- 1:27:30Dramatic ass murder of a turtle. Unintentional.
- 1:27:36Listen, he's unintentionally causing death, lover.
- 1:27:39He picks up the salmonella turtle, doesn't know that the
- 1:27:41turtle stick, and sticks it in the river.
- 1:27:44And it swims away very happily, and that's how we know.
- 1:27:50Yes, it's like, oh. Deuces that turtle.
- 1:27:52That turtle went on to live a fulfilling turtle life.
- 1:27:55It's still there, man. In my head, that's.
- 1:27:57Fine. Yeah.
- 1:27:58We know that it's visitors, you know, like we won't.
- 1:28:01Let it gets what's her face from marrying my husband that's.
- 1:28:04Right, that turtle it went to. Japan and and started and.
- 1:28:09Had a fulfilling life. Fulfilling life and a Sato
- 1:28:13Tacaroo's turtle. Yeah, I see.
- 1:28:15We all had a good time. We all had a good time.
- 1:28:16It's fine. He just.
- 1:28:18I was looking for a new family. It was like I'm tired of this
- 1:28:23dog and the sad. Woman literally so boring.
- 1:28:29Oh man. But we do.
- 1:28:31We get a reunion by the river and she has placed what looks
- 1:28:36like the rustiest set of dusk and chairs.
- 1:28:40I thought it was a sculpture. Is it a sculpture?
- 1:28:42Sculpture that makes way more. Sense like I thought it was a
- 1:28:45bronze like sculptures. Cuz yeah, like an art.
- 1:28:47Piece. I thought it was an art piece.
- 1:28:48An art. Installation way more sense than
- 1:28:50just She stuck some chairs out there and they've.
- 1:28:53Rusted. I thought it was like.
- 1:28:55I thought it was an art piece like.
- 1:28:57I thought it was very interesting that the table had
- 1:28:59Braille like built into it so that.
- 1:29:01Makes a lot of art piece she. Was a sculpture major, I think,
- 1:29:05is what she said. That's what she studied in
- 1:29:07school, so it stands to reason that, yeah, she might have
- 1:29:12sculpted this entire thing. That was one of the other things
- 1:29:16that I found a little bit weird about the whole situation,
- 1:29:19because I absolutely believe that it would be difficult as a
- 1:29:24blind person to continue on with your art in a different way.
- 1:29:28But sculpting is sort of the easiest of the art forms that
- 1:29:33you you could imagine a blind person continuing this blind.
- 1:29:38Like it would be a lot easier than painting or something.
- 1:29:42Assumed it was more of like she was still in her interest like,
- 1:29:46well, grief and like, also just like she's just finding a way to
- 1:29:50live and just like living without like, yeah, normal like
- 1:29:54living like money now that you don't have parents that are
- 1:29:56gonna help you and that's. Definitely.
- 1:29:59Living on your own. I just thought, I mean sort of
- 1:30:01harkening back to what Jesse had talked about with the did she
- 1:30:05need to not be blind anymore? For sure she could have like
- 1:30:09definitely he could have helped support her and it he.
- 1:30:12Even had said so right like before he knew that that was a
- 1:30:17an option. He was like no, we'll get you
- 1:30:19back into your pottery and we'll open a little shop.
- 1:30:22He figured she could do it blind, so.
- 1:30:25You know. I wonder if the table was like
- 1:30:28another scene? There's like more significance,
- 1:30:31like maybe. Maybe got cut or something.
- 1:30:33For yeah, like it was a table that they found and it was like,
- 1:30:36how cool was it that it had Braille or like.
- 1:30:39I I always thought they bought it specifically into it whether
- 1:30:42it was. A yeah.
- 1:30:43Or like they did it together maybe?
- 1:30:45It's. I feel like rounded corners.
- 1:30:47Oh wait, rounded corners. Did I miss something in the
- 1:30:50movie? I assumed it was the Braille
- 1:30:53lines that were on her notebook. Yeah, I did.
- 1:30:55Romeo and Juliet, Yeah. That's what I as well, yeah.
- 1:30:59I just like assumed it was something that like they they
- 1:31:02shared that table like a lot like they sat at that river.
- 1:31:06And they never had. A lot that we just didn't.
- 1:31:08See cause 'cause. Mostly they just sat on a log.
- 1:31:10You think it would be like, yeah, this log would have been
- 1:31:12the Yeah, yeah, for sure. The miss the see and here here
- 1:31:18people are saying this movie is so predictable.
- 1:31:20Here we are talking. About mystery you.
- 1:31:23Know the mystery of the table and chairs like the enduring
- 1:31:26mystery of always like. What's up with this table?
- 1:31:28What's? Up with the table and chairs.
- 1:31:30If you have a theory or you have answers for us, please let us
- 1:31:34know about the table and chairs. But she says her famous line.
- 1:31:38I told you I would see your face only.
- 1:31:42Why did you let me see only my face?
- 1:31:45Because that was something she said before her surgery.
- 1:31:47I want to see your face 23 hours out of the day and then one hour
- 1:31:51to to look at my face. Yeah, well then, confident
- 1:31:55Queen, she knows. She knows, you know.
- 1:31:58Yep, she was a confident queen. But I love that moment and the
- 1:32:02reunion is is really sweet. But how do you, how do you feel
- 1:32:07about it? How do you feel about the
- 1:32:08ending? And I did see a couple of
- 1:32:11letterbox reviews that were like, we only got 2 seconds of
- 1:32:14them together at the end, like the typical, yeah.
- 1:32:18You think, my dudes, you got like 40 minutes of them at the
- 1:32:23beginning. So that was the.
- 1:32:26Story. I don't they're going to change
- 1:32:30much like the way that they hang out with each other.
- 1:32:33I think they're going to go back to what they were doing, like,
- 1:32:36yeah. Like I think it might have been
- 1:32:38nice to have, you know, like how some movies will have just like
- 1:32:42end credits scenes that sort of run alongside of the credits,
- 1:32:47like the scenes of them walking the dog or, you know, like some
- 1:32:51of that kind of it would just be nice to have.
- 1:32:55But I felt like it it completed. They told me the story it needed
- 1:32:59to tell. They found their way back to
- 1:33:01each other and see like. I mean, I thought it was nice
- 1:33:05they even got a conversation because I I would have been
- 1:33:08totally fine with the closure of seeing her make, you know,
- 1:33:11finally getting there. And it cuts like I yeah, I.
- 1:33:14Would have I mean. Them, them seeing each other's
- 1:33:16eyes and. Then like I'm like there's.
- 1:33:18You know, far away and that's it.
- 1:33:20I I'm, I'm. I was watching it thinking of
- 1:33:23the lake house where it's basically they just walk up to
- 1:33:25each other and then it's done and you're like.
- 1:33:27Yeah, see. What's the rest?
- 1:33:29Of the movie I like. It I come, I come.
- 1:33:31From Lake House history. Like, I'm totally fine with
- 1:33:33like, oh, we got it. OK.
- 1:33:35We see each other. Yeah.
- 1:33:36We just feel like we don't need it because we already know what
- 1:33:39the it's going to be like. We now know that they like saw
- 1:33:42each other, so they've like connected and we now know what
- 1:33:45their relationship's gonna be. We don't.
- 1:33:47Think they're hugging. Like it's not like it's not like
- 1:33:50they're just standing staring at each other at the no, they have
- 1:33:53a conversation, they hug. Yep, they got a conversation.
- 1:33:55What else? Clearly they're going to be
- 1:33:57together going forward. Like, yeah.
- 1:34:00Clearly, she's not married. Yeah, like that.
- 1:34:02Yeah. She was just telling people she
- 1:34:04was married. Clearly the pottery guy that
- 1:34:07Yeah, no more chances acting. I thought that it applied like
- 1:34:11she still considered herself like.
- 1:34:14Right married to him. I thought, yeah, and I thought
- 1:34:16she was just like kind of doing. That's how I always tell the
- 1:34:18whole thing. Like, oh, I'm not don't want to
- 1:34:21like even try. Like, yeah, I'm not going to
- 1:34:23make it complicated just to be like, I'm not interested
- 1:34:25telling. The nice guy.
- 1:34:27Listen, I am not there, but I'm also not telling you my whole
- 1:34:30story. Yeah.
- 1:34:31It's it's in that like I'm not interested, but you're not going
- 1:34:33to like question me on it. You know, it's not going to be
- 1:34:36like you're going to still pursue me.
- 1:34:38Not that like I feel that, but. It's Jim who so like.
- 1:34:41It is. I mean girl.
- 1:34:44I mean, if she. Needed a secondary person that
- 1:34:47was pretty fine. That you should get like a fake
- 1:34:49wedding ring so that you won't be hassled as much.
- 1:34:53And it's like, it's sad but true 'cause you know, dude, but like
- 1:34:58just, you know, if you're traveling alone, just get like a
- 1:35:00fake wedding ring and like, you'll be hassled less.
- 1:35:04You'll be hassled less. All this to say, we seem to be
- 1:35:08all on the same page. We love the ending.
- 1:35:10We didn't need more. I don't know.
- 1:35:12It was satisfying. It gave you everything it was
- 1:35:14going to. I feel like I hit a nerve
- 1:35:16though, like talking about people were complaining about
- 1:35:19hey we only got like 2 seconds of them being together.
- 1:35:23It's not a drama. You you can pick apart this
- 1:35:26movie and want it to have more stuff in it and you would have a
- 1:35:29drama, but it is a movie, so we can only show so much of what
- 1:35:34happens. I mean, I will say the fight was
- 1:35:37kind of long. Could have had more time to
- 1:35:39maybe do something else fun like build the table.
- 1:35:41Like we could have seen what the.
- 1:35:43Table was really doing. Yeah, the mystery of the table
- 1:35:45couldn't. Say but I.
- 1:35:47Know it wasn't and that's. Just that's just it.
- 1:35:50I feel like what it's a lot of this stuff was kind of show
- 1:35:53don't tell like, and you just have to accept it and roll with
- 1:35:56it. Yeah.
- 1:35:56And it's a movie, just. It doesn't need it too, like we
- 1:35:59don't need to overcomplicate it like things can be complicated
- 1:36:02at this level. This is an hour and 48 minutes,
- 1:36:05people like what the hell else do you want?
- 1:36:08Listen, it is what it is and it told exactly the story that it
- 1:36:12needed and it didn't add too much extra because it was like
- 1:36:15we're an under 2 hour movie. OK, we're getting you in and
- 1:36:18out, let's go. Like, you know, here's the
- 1:36:20story. That's fine.
- 1:36:20OK, bye. You're just like exactly.
- 1:36:23And clearly it has satisfied many, many people for many, many
- 1:36:28years at this point. Like they're still making
- 1:36:31remakes of it. People are still watching it
- 1:36:33like it's. Yeah, it's resonating.
- 1:36:37Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:36:38It's a it's a really like classic setup delivery.
- 1:36:42It hits all the beats. It doesn't really feel dated
- 1:36:45like no. That's true, actually, yeah.
- 1:36:48It it kind of avoided any big aspects that would affect the
- 1:36:51plot. There really wasn't anything
- 1:36:52that's like, oh Nope. They didn't even ever pop out
- 1:36:56their cell phones or anything in it, but it was.
- 1:36:59Like so minor. That you but it, it wasn't like
- 1:37:01in a way where you were like, Oh my God, look at that little
- 1:37:04Nokia Pro brick they have or whatever, right.
- 1:37:07Like OK, that's always fun when they in. 2011 I had a
- 1:37:12smartphone. Yeah, I was 20, OK.
- 1:37:15That's true. It's not.
- 1:37:17I mean. That would have been the year I
- 1:37:19graduated my first degree and I had I had, I had a smartphone
- 1:37:23that had one of those little like the slider, the little.
- 1:37:27Slider keyboard. So did I.
- 1:37:28I love those. Those are so good.
- 1:37:31Too. That was peak design I.
- 1:37:33Mean it's gonna be like, when was the first iPhone?
- 1:37:36Like it's gonna be around there. It's around there with that
- 1:37:38iPhone, yeah, but yeah. I definitely had a little, but
- 1:37:42even that like would still, you know, like it would. 2000.
- 1:37:47Seven if they spent a lot of time on their phones, it would
- 1:37:50feel weird, right? Like it adds to the dating of
- 1:37:54things these days, but. Well, we have come to the end of
