- 0:00What's up everybody? Charlie Marlowe here in my Tony
- 0:03Larussa transition lenses want to talk trade deadline.
- 0:07It's the day after State of the Cardinals organization.
- 0:10Fair to say, not in a very good place right now.
- 0:15So let's talk about it. It's kind of sad actually, where
- 0:19the Cardinals are relative to the National Baseball landscape,
- 0:24because I have to say, it just feels like the Cardinals are are
- 0:27pretty much irrelevant to to baseball overall in terms of
- 0:33being a contender. Now, obviously it could get way
- 0:36worse, right? They could tank, they could lose
- 0:37100 games. It hasn't gotten to that.
- 0:40Although what 2023 was really bad.
- 0:43What I'm talking about is we're used to a team that that matters
- 0:50in Saint Louis, right? I mean, you can go back.
- 0:53I'm not even talking about going back to Stan Musial and Bob
- 0:56Gibson and all that. But let's just take, since I've
- 0:58been here, 2008 and those teams, 2011 to 2015, magical runs,
- 1:06Cardinal Devil Magic, you know, they won a World Series there.
- 1:09They obviously won one in 2006. But all those teams I'm talking
- 1:14about, and you can, you can say 2009 too, but 11 to 15, the
- 1:19Cardinals were a team that had to be dealt with, right?
- 1:24Even if they didn't win the World Series, they got to the
- 1:26NLCS, what, 11121314 won 100 games and 15.
- 1:32But they were a factor. They were a force to be reckoned
- 1:35with, whether it was the National League Central or the
- 1:39National League overall or even all of baseball in the World
- 1:43Series. You had to feel the Cardinals,
- 1:46you know what I'm saying? Like, you were going to feel the
- 1:48Cardinals, they were going to make their presence felt and
- 1:52known and they were a factor and everybody was talking about them
- 1:57and they mattered and they were important.
- 2:00And look, the Cardinals will always be important to Saint
- 2:02Louis. And there are fans here that are
- 2:05always going to be ride or die with them.
- 2:06That's not what I'm talking about.
- 2:08It's just I feel like it's been so long since the Cardinals have
- 2:12really been nationally relevant, a real, real playoff contender.
- 2:20And I hate to say it, but like when it's been three years since
- 2:24the post season now, I think most people assume they're not
- 2:27going to make the playoffs this year.
- 2:29I think that's fair to say. And you've sold two out of the
- 2:33last three trade deadlines. You you begin to become or you
- 2:39already are an afterthought. That's that's sad.
- 2:42I hate to say that I think I'm being fair.
- 2:44The Cardinals have become an afterthought across Major League
- 2:48Baseball. They're no longer A-Team.
- 2:51You think about, you worry about, you concern yourself with
- 2:55if, if you're if you're another team looking to win a World
- 2:59Series, looking to win a Pennant, whatever it is, or just
- 3:02the National Baseball conversation.
- 3:04Go back in the day, there'd be power rankings and all that.
- 3:08The Cardinals were always up there, top five, top 10.
- 3:11John Moselock was being talked about as, if not the best, one
- 3:15of the best GMs or Pobos and all of baseball, and he was for the
- 3:20first half of his tenure. I don't know what the hell
- 3:22happened in the second-half. We'll talk about that another
- 3:25day. But it's just, it's sad where
- 3:29the franchise is right now. There's so much fan apathy.
- 3:33I went to a game the other day and don't get me wrong, it was
- 3:36super hot. It was Saturday night game
- 3:38against the Padres when they had all those bean balls and all
- 3:41that. It was a freaking wet heat.
- 3:45A wet heat. I mean, you were dripping if
- 3:48you're sitting out in the sun. This is a 615 game.
- 3:51But there was just nobody in the stands Saturday night.
- 3:55And I was looking the Saturday crowd, the Sunday crowd.
- 3:57I think the announced attendance for tickets sold was something
- 3:59like 25,026 thousand. We all know there's not nearly
- 4:04as many people at Busch Stadium. You can just roll up there and
- 4:08park super easy, right? Late July in Saint Louis, it
- 4:15should be Pennant race time. The place should be packed.
- 4:17People should be excited. That's another thing.
- 4:20Look, the Cardinals are always going to matter.
- 4:22That's not what I'm saying. But like, they don't matter
- 4:26nearly as much. And I also feel like the
- 4:29Cardinals, they went on this downturn at the worst time
- 4:33possible for sports because coming off COVID.
- 4:36And I know the Cardinals were good in in 22, don't get me
- 4:39wrong, but like coming off COVID, people don't need or want
- 4:43sports as much as they they used to, right?
- 4:46Like they got used to not having sports.
- 4:49And also the team jumped around and it's hard to find them on
- 4:53different, different cable providers.
- 4:57And then they're going streaming, which I think is
- 4:58good. But I understand people are
- 5:00like, where's the Cardinals game and all that.
- 5:03And also, look, we know this is not a political thing.
- 5:06It's post COVID, people don't have as much discretionary
- 5:11income, right? So are you going to go down
- 5:13there park? I mean, you can get an easy
- 5:16ticket. You can get cheap tickets these
- 5:18days, but still, you're going to drive downtown, go to the game.
- 5:22Nobody's there. You're not excited about the
- 5:23team, You're not excited about the state of the franchise.
- 5:27You got a big 6070 inch TV at home.
- 5:30You can watch the games at home, although I'm sure the ratings
- 5:33are down there also. I know the ratings a couple
- 5:36years ago, 2023 were really bad. I just feel like, I just feel
- 5:41like the the sentiment I get also just talking to people,
- 5:45talking about the Cardinals, they're just, they're just not
- 5:48what they used to be. And, and by the way, they can,
- 5:50they can get back to that. And I think there's optimism
- 5:53with Heimbloom because it it was time for John Mosaic to go.
- 5:57It just it wasn't working the last couple years.
- 6:00So I have I have high hopes for Heimbloom.
- 6:02But also, when will the Cardinals be good again?
- 6:06I mean, you just, you just sold at the deadline.
- 6:10You got a bunch of a ball prospects.
- 6:12OK. I like the Cardinals position
- 6:13players. I like a lot of them.
- 6:14You just traded almost all of your impact relievers.
- 6:17Look at your rotation next year. Yeah.
- 6:20What? Sonny Gray, we'll call him a
- 6:21one. Are you going to say limit tours
- 6:24of three And then you got Palante Mcgreevy, whoever else
- 6:27they put, you know, are they going to spend money?
- 6:29Would they spend money? Should they spend money?
- 6:31If you're the Cardinals, are they going to spend any money?
- 6:34I feel like next year's going to be the let the kids pitch year.
- 6:38Figure out what you got pitching wise.
- 6:40You still don't know what you got with Jordan Walker, Nolan
- 6:44Gorman. And again, I, I like a lot of
- 6:46the Cardinals position players. I just I can't see the Cardinals
- 6:50being a contender in 2026. I don't think they'll suck.
- 6:54I think they'll be kind of like this year.
- 6:57Will they spend money? Do you think they'll spend
- 7:00money? I don't think they'll spend
- 7:01money. It's just kind of a sad state.
- 7:04This is the time trade deadline. You're supposed to get excited
- 7:07for the for the playoff push, right?
- 7:10September baseball so much fun. And if you thought the Cardinal
- 7:14fans weren't interested now just wait for these last whatever it
- 7:18is. 50 games last two months. Ain't nobody going to watch.
- 7:23Ain't nobody going to go to the games.
- 7:25This is what we saw in 2023 folks.
- 7:28I mean if if you thought the stands were empty.
- 7:30Now think about after they traded a bunch of their guys.
- 7:34Not a bunch. I mean what they traded 3 guys
- 7:36but still like it was a sell off and they're clearly not trying
- 7:41to win anymore in 2025. The players know that, the fans
- 7:45know that and the fans are going to respond saying hey, if you
- 7:50don't care about winning in 2025, I'm not going to care
- 7:53about coming to the ballpark in 2025.
- 7:55So it is what it is. Thanks for watching by the way,
- 7:58this Cardinals clips channel. If you haven't subscribed,

- 8:26him a call, he'll help you out. Just we just got a new rental

- 8:37we need a, we need an approval letter because I didn't get it
- 8:41in time and he did it over the holiday weekend.
- 8:43We got this rental property. Everything is so easy with Triad
- 8:46Bank. Even the lady who was closing us
- 8:48at the closing said man, Triad Bank is really easy to work
- 8:51with. Relationship based banking,

- 9:15trimmer. I got the fuel oil mix, the the
- 9:17gas oil mix for the for the blower.
- 9:20They do it all. Saint Louis equipment, Saint
- 9:21Louis lawn care and Triad bank, of course.
- 9:24There you go. I want to hear from you.
- 9:25What do you think? Any chance the Cardinals make
- 9:28the playoffs next year? I don't think so. 2027, We shall
- 9:31see. Could there be a some type of
- 9:33work stoppage? We'll see.
- 9:36But just overall sad state of affairs for the Cardinals that
- 9:41they're in the spot. Let's hope it doesn't last too
- 9:44many years longer. Let's hope Heimbloom turns it
- 9:46around. Because the saddest part is that
- 9:49the Cardinals have become an afterthought.
- 9:51They've become irrelevant on the National Baseball stage, and
- 9:55that's not the way it should be in baseball heaven.
- 9:57Best fans in baseball. I'm not even joking.
- 9:59The Cardinals are a force. The Saint Louis Cardinals are
- 10:03one of the greatest franchises in baseball history, and that's
- 10:06what they should be most years. And they haven't been in a long
- 10:10time. And it's sad.
- 10:11And we got to get back to the way it was.
- 10:13Don't you agree? Let me know.
- 10:15Give your thoughts. Peace.
