- 0:00All right, stop it there. Don't put that in the intro.
- 0:02Don't you? All right, Smila Sam Alekum
- 0:08Afterlal, welcome back to your favorite podcast after Maghreb.
- 0:11It's really good to have you back here, brother, sisters.
- 0:13And today we've got something special in store for you.
- 0:16It is what feels like a rarity. Unfortunately we haven't had a
- 0:20conversation with just the two of us in a while, so it's nice
- 0:23to be back, but I have to introduce my guests, my very
- 0:29special Co host. How's it going?
- 0:34I'm. Well, I'm just.
- 0:46Not. I'm not sure what happened to
- 0:48the tongue there. Was my name a tongue twister or?
- 0:51Do you know what it is? I've been trying to adapt my
- 0:53Ledger? Is that the right sense my my
- 0:56pronunciation? So I'm in the in the presence of
- 0:59of a descendant of the 100. Prophet all the villas.
- 1:02So I have to, I have to fix my game.
- 1:05Why are the villas? I say it now, how you doing?
- 1:07Well, I'm well Hamdullah, I can't complain.
- 1:10God is very merciful to us. God never neglects us, never
- 1:15forgets us, always blesses us and always looks out for us.
- 1:18And I think it's something we need to remember all the time,
- 1:20that Allah, it's there for us. We're the ones that walk away
- 1:24from him. And perhaps maybe we can discuss
- 1:26this. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:27Today's conversation. How are you?
- 1:28I'm OK, yeah, I'm OK at Hamdallah.
- 1:30It's been been a busy week for me personally.
- 1:34I'm I'm doing OK at Hamdallah. Many people will remember a few
- 1:40weeks ago you had a reel on Instagram and TikTok me where
- 1:46you said yeah, where you said there's people saying Habibi
- 1:49come to Dubai, come back to Allah.
- 1:53Today and Hamdulillah, we're going to discuss both because
- 1:55said Ali just came back from Dubai and today we're going to
- 1:58go back to Allah. I was, your trip to Dubai said.
- 2:01Well, I'll handle. I was refreshing much needed.
- 2:03It was it was. I think it was overdue.
- 2:06I'm I'm not saying I should have went Zihara and said which I
- 2:08should have, but believe me I needed a break.
- 2:11Yeah, we do. Sometimes I don't know how to.
- 2:13Explain that I just needed a few days off.
- 2:15Sometimes you need to recharge. When would the family had a
- 2:17great time? Did you meet any listeners after
- 2:20market of listeners? I don't know why you ask.
- 2:23Is that yes or is that no? No.
- 2:27Fair enough. OK, guys, make of that what you
- 2:31will. So listen.
- 2:32I'm a subscribers wait. Yeah, I'm the last.
- 2:35So listen. We, we.

- 2:39you there because I must tell you about the Faqa Lane App.

- 3:20platform to empower the Shia world.
- 3:23And now back to the Aftermaker podcast.
- 3:26For those who don't know, we did a discussion on being trapped in
- 3:30the dunya and we talked a lot about music in our last
- 3:34discussion and general form of addiction and spiritual disease,
- 3:38but with a specific focus on music.
- 3:40I remember in that episode today, we want to talk more
- 3:44about distractions that we face and also just more importantly,
- 3:49our connection with a lost partner.
- 3:51And I think a lot of the time we, I, I say we, I speak for
- 3:54myself, I feel a disconnect. There are days where I feel
- 3:59spiritually lower and days where I feel higher.
- 4:02There's days where I feel like I have greater amount of other
- 4:04than last month and days where I feel less.
- 4:07And you know, like spirituality is not, not linear, like it
- 4:11doesn't rise exponentially on a chart.
- 4:15Rather it's a fluctuating process.
- 4:17And over time, the goal is to still reach your peak, but there
- 4:22will be ups and downs. You know, there's that saying.
- 4:24There's different roads to the top of the mountain.
- 4:26Some are easier, some are harder.
- 4:27But as long as you reach the top, right.
- 4:31Why do you think we feel distractions when it comes to
- 4:35our relationship with Allah? Spoon to Allah?
- 4:39Why do we struggle focusing on Allah all the time?
- 4:43The problem is I I think we're distracted by many things.
- 4:47It's not one I can't nail it down to one thing and I'm not
- 4:50going to blame shaytan for everything now because I think
- 4:53we have to take some responsibility and put our hands
- 4:56up and say we're choosing to neglect a lot as they were just
- 5:00upon what to Allah, but ultimately Shaytan technically,
- 5:03but I don't want to blame a bliss for everything that we do.
- 5:05But the distractions are and if we look today, the the biggest
- 5:10thing that distracts us is social media.
- 5:13That's one thing and rather than trying to get closer to Allah,
- 5:17we choose to get closer to our mobile phones.
- 5:20And it's a huge danger because if you are, let's say, attached
- 5:24to this device and you have all these social apps and you're,
- 5:28you're exposed to a world of an alternative to Islam.
- 5:32I ultimately, if someone gets distracted on social media, what
- 5:35is it? They're seeing something fun,
- 5:38they're seeing something funny, something exciting, something
- 5:40that you know, makes them smile. Get get, I don't know, gives
- 5:43them some what's that dopamine? What's that dopamine?
- 5:46It gives them something that they don't see that they get
- 5:50when they try to connect to Allah Subhanahu Matala.
- 5:52So I, I think we're not balanced and and we're not fair.
- 5:55We don't give justice to our creator, our sustainer when it
- 5:58comes to this. Now we choose not to get close
- 6:02to the Lord, the Almighty Allah Subhanahu Matala and we choose
- 6:05to be glued and stuck to a mobile phone.
- 6:07So that's one thing and then there's other people.
- 6:10Or maybe it's it's a variety of things.
- 6:13So you've got social media, then you have other people who are
- 6:16distracted by girls, other people are distracted by
- 6:20relationships, even friendships. Yeah.
- 6:22And either rather go out and chill out with non mahrams, then
- 6:26get then go to the mosque. They'd rather go out with their
- 6:28friends and spend hours in a shisha cafe, then then be with
- 6:32the brothers in, in community and you know, in, in the spirit
- 6:35of Islamic unity, our brotherhood and Omar in the
- 6:38mosque. So we're choosing the
- 6:40alternatives because we can have fun on our mobile phone, we can
- 6:43have fun on our devices Islamically, we can have fun in
- 6:47our relationships in a halal way.
- 6:49We can have the best of fun with our friendships if done in the
- 6:52right way. So and then you have another
- 6:55group and I, and I think this is where the majority of the
- 6:57distraction is. We are just too distracted
- 6:59trying to earn money, trying to earn a living.
- 7:02And there's nothing wrong with it.
- 7:04So as long as it's done correctly.
- 7:05And what do I mean by that? You can go to work, you can go
- 7:09earn a living, you can make your millions if you want to make
- 7:12millions. But don't forget the talk of
- 7:14other people and don't forget the responsibilities and the
- 7:17duties that fall on you. They have to give in the way of
- 7:19Allah, whether it's the card, whether it's homes, whether it's
- 7:21charity, because you can go earn a living and make money and go
- 7:25home and live another day. There is nothing godly about it.
- 7:28You can go earn a living and from that money that you earn,
- 7:32you give yours a card or you give your homes and you give
- 7:34your charity. There is God in that, you
- 7:37understand So, so I'm not going to say, you know, work is a
- 7:41distraction, Work is a necessity and it's important.
- 7:43Every man works, not just the oneself, the way, but it's the
- 7:46way you see it. So I think it's a mindset.
- 7:49We choose to distract ourselves. Otherwise, we can put God in
- 7:52everything. Can I be real with you?
- 7:53I feel like that's I agree with you.
- 7:55I think everything you've said is completely factual and I
- 7:58think that there's a, a very material element to the
- 8:02discussion about distraction and about it taking us away from a
- 8:06lost one to Isla completely. When you, when you mentioned
- 8:09relationships, social media, money, friends, circles, all of
- 8:14these different things, of course, are very external
- 8:16factors and material factors. I think also there's an element
- 8:19of, of internal insecurity about being distant from a lost one to
- 8:25Isla. And when I say this, I mean in
- 8:26the sense that like you, you mentioned a good point, you said
- 8:29that you're seeking something, the dopamine.
- 8:31Yep. I feel like as human beings we
- 8:33crave validation and we will seek validation from anywhere
- 8:38which gives that to us. And that could be a paycheck,
- 8:41that could be a compliment, it could be a a like on social
- 8:45media. But the idea being is that.
- 8:47PRI is the promotion. Exactly, 100%.
- 8:49And we seek validation through all of these means, but
- 8:52ultimately the validation that we really truly should seek is
- 8:55from the last bonus to Allah. Of course, if there are times
- 8:59where internally I may feel low, OK, I don't know why I wake up
- 9:04and I maybe I have a bad start to the day or I may not have the
- 9:08energy and the motivation that I had yesterday.
- 9:10And everything is like half baked in terms of my
- 9:15interactions, my efforts and my efficiency.
- 9:18And I feel like I'm easily defeatable.
- 9:20Do you see what I mean? There's moments, for example,
- 9:23where I may be in work and I feel like I'm defeatable or I
- 9:26may be in a conversation and I feel like I don't want to engage
- 9:29in this. Or I may also cocoon myself,
- 9:32shelter myself. I want to bring 2 ayahs verses
- 9:36of the Holy Quran, which I think are very, very, very pertinent.
- 9:40Sort of Ali Iran, I've just lost it verse #160 where a last panel
- 9:46to Allah says if Allah is your helper, no one can defeat you.
- 9:52However, if he abandons you, who would help you?
- 9:55The true believers trust in Allah's panel to Allah.
- 9:57And of course there's the holy, the the rest of the holy Quran.
- 10:01Allah is sufficient for the needs of whoever trusts in him.
- 10:03So talaq and it's I think it's so important.
- 10:07We talked about the need for safety and security.
- 10:09We crave this as human beings. We crave comfort.
- 10:11We crave like just the conviction that my day will go
- 10:16OK, things will go OK, people around me won't get hurt.
- 10:19I won't be left in a broken position.
- 10:22Minamatmani Al Islam says that regarding all of your affairs,
- 10:25seek the refuge of your Lord for your seeking the refuge of a
- 10:28sheltering haven and a powerful, powerful sanctuary.
- 10:32That's so important because ultimately God's centricity is
- 10:35our goal. We want to be God centric.
- 10:39I have a question for you, is being God centric all the time
- 10:44right? Because being God centric is in
- 10:46my opinion, like we always mentioned the hadith of
- 10:48middleman and seeing our last banter.
- 10:50Allah before and during, before, during and after every action
- 10:54that you take. Yep.
- 10:55Is that the same as being holy all the time?
- 10:59Is sitting on the prayer mat all the time or there's a spear in
- 11:01your hand. That's a that's a very nice
- 11:05question because I so you're basically asking can you be God
- 11:13centric without being holy and religious?
- 11:15Yeah, or without fitting the aesthetic of it.
- 11:18Aesthetics. Interesting word.
- 11:19OK, the issue is I, I don't think you can be a practising
- 11:24Muslim if you cannot be considered religious because,
- 11:29and I say that why I say that because like the the most basic
- 11:32fundamental obligatory acts is technically what makes you
- 11:35Muslim, makes you a practising Muslim.
- 11:37And if you're practising, then Inshallah, we are religious,
- 11:40Inshallah, we are Mutomanian. We're believers, right?
- 11:43If, if, if we adhere to the laws of our lost part of it, Allah
- 11:45and, and, and all the commands that he expects of us, that I
- 11:49think that's what makes you Muslim.
- 11:51Because I can't judge who's religious and who's not just
- 11:53because, for example, his sedge there is longer and Salah or his
- 11:56Quran recitation is, I don't know, more beautiful or he goes
- 12:00on Ziara more like, does that make you more religious?
- 12:03I I don't know, you may have a different connection of how you
- 12:06establish that connection with your Lord with the loss of Hanno
- 12:09Watala, but I don't think that you have to be religious to have
- 12:16God in your life because you have to see God in everything.
- 12:18And even non-Muslims, Ahmed, we see them have a connection with
- 12:22the Lord. The Christians, they believe in
- 12:26God. Arguably, God forbid they
- 12:29believe in shirk. Ultimately the Jews, they
- 12:32believe in God. There's other religions, even
- 12:35not Al Kitab, they have some sort of connection with a
- 12:38creators or a source that's bigger than them.
- 12:41And there's someone who controls them, who has like, how can I
- 12:45say like there's differences of power of man to the power of
- 12:51Allah, Subhanahu at Allah. I don't want to call their Lord
- 12:53God Allah, but I'm going to say God in this conversation.
- 12:56So everyone tries to have some relationship in terms of faith.
- 13:03Does that mean they're not religious in their, in their
- 13:05religion? For example?
- 13:06I, I don't know, I don't know nothing.
- 13:07The same thing can apply with Muslims because religious, what
- 13:11is religious? We, we've made that word
- 13:13religious. There's only a Muslim and a
- 13:16movement. So you're either a Muslim or
- 13:18you're a believer. So religious is something where
- 13:20we judge people. And I, I, I don't think we
- 13:22should use that term at all. But I think we can be God
- 13:24centric in everything that we do, the good, the bad, the ugly,
- 13:28the high and the low. And we see God in everything.
- 13:30I mean, let's put it this way and I think it's easy and it's a
- 13:34simple task. Everyone can make a good habit
- 13:37from this. Honey, you have to start small
- 13:39and eventually you, you will get there.
- 13:42In terms of being a woman, being a believer is that you always
- 13:45have to have remembrance of Allah, Subhanahu Ta'ala, not
- 13:49just on the heart, but on the tongue.
- 13:51Like when when we speak with one another and for example, it's
- 13:54more than just Salaam or alaikum alaisadeh Allah khaliq.
- 13:56No, you see something beautiful, you say Masha Allah, that's
- 13:59beautiful. You don't just say it's
- 14:01beautiful, you say Masha Allah. You remember God in that beauty,
- 14:05that's true. But for example, you know you
- 14:06saw something magnificent, magnificent, miraculous.
- 14:09What do you say? You see the beauty of God, you
- 14:11say Subhan Allah. Again, that's the liquor of
- 14:14Allah on your tongue. You want to do something?
- 14:16What do you say? Miss Millah.
- 14:18Bismillah. Inshallah I will.
- 14:20With God's permission. No, I'm gonna do it.
- 14:22With God's permission, I'm going to do it.
- 14:25There's a difference. And I and I think that's why
- 14:27it's critical. And I think I agree.
- 14:28The last example we can use the world Al Hamdulillah, something
- 14:31that comes in our way, in our favour, gives us joy, gives us
- 14:34comfort. Don't just say OK I've had a
- 14:36good day, no say Al Hamdulillah and thank her.
- 14:38Remember and say Shukran to your Lord, to the one who created
- 14:43you, the one who sustains you, the one who gives you rest, the
- 14:45one who gave you life, the one who lets you breathe, the one
- 14:48who lets you walk, talk, smell, listen, taste.
- 14:52All of this is from God bro. We just need to remember that
- 14:56Allah is in every aspect of our life as the most basic thing.
- 15:01And I, I leave the house, but it's a miracle without God, I
- 15:05will not be leaving the house, going to work, coming to the
- 15:08podcast, going to see friends or family or going to the Hosseini
- 15:12or to the community, going to Majalis, going to Ziara, going
- 15:14on a holiday, getting on a plane, wherever.
- 15:16All of this is thanks to a lost one or Ta'ala.
- 15:18So if we can have that habit of always having vicar of a loss of
- 15:22Hana Wataala on our tongues and our minds and our hearts is the
- 15:27best thing. Why Allah says in the Quranwa
- 15:31Allah vidikar Allah Kalu Kalu, surely in the remembrance of
- 15:35Allah, the vicar of Allah, the hearts find confit, the hearts
- 15:39find peace, tranquillity and sukoon.
- 15:43You only find that with God. Because I truly believe in
- 15:45Allah. I believe this and I see from
- 15:47people around me sometimes and I don't want to be judge mental
- 15:50when I say this. Is that when I see someone who
- 15:53lacks a connection with God, lacks lacks a connection with
- 15:57Allah, zawah jaspana wata Allah, I feel they're lost in life
- 16:01because if something bad happens to them, it's the end of the
- 16:04world. If something good happens to
- 16:06them, they're on top of the world.
- 16:08There's no God in that conversation.
- 16:10There's no God in that mind and that thought process.
- 16:14But the moment you have God, but even in your lowest of your low,
- 16:17you say what I'll handle. Allah you see, as a blessing, as
- 16:21a test. Yeah, yeah.
- 16:23Yeah, I know. I agree with you, I think.
- 16:24I know it's difficult to to always do this, but it's a habit
- 16:28I think we can all work on. Yeah, but I think look, it's we
- 16:31have to be real, OK? Because you and me are, are two
- 16:34people who have grown up in, in very heavy Shia community.
- 16:38So we are surrounded by it by not even by choice.
- 16:42You see what I'm saying? Like we are born into it.
- 16:44And Hamdullah, we're, we're raised in it.
- 16:46We're surrounded by, you know, the people we, we, we meet on a
- 16:49day-to-day basis, our family and our friends circles, our, our,
- 16:52our of those what men in sha Allah and people who inspire us
- 16:56as well. So it becomes, it becomes like
- 16:58to some degree a social construct where it becomes part
- 17:01of our day-to-day interaction, where we stay at Hamdu last
- 17:03time, what I local, you know, all of these things become part
- 17:06of our our daily interactions where I'm at a point now where I
- 17:10subconsciously I'll walk into my office and I'll say to a staff,
- 17:13that's what I local when they walk in, you know, or whatever,
- 17:15and they're not Muslim because it's just it's behavioural for
- 17:19me. Do you see what I mean?
- 17:20So it yeah, there's, there's that element, but really truly
- 17:25remembering our last panel to Allah being God centric in
- 17:29everything I do, you know, is harder than it sounds.
- 17:33And I completely agree. The the 1st and not even just
- 17:37the first step, but like the, the initial steps we take is to
- 17:41remember our last panel to Allah through the tongue.
- 17:44And you know, do the vicar of our last panel to Allah.
- 17:46We have our Adea, for example, the Arkham, the Arkham Mail of
- 17:50every night, which is a Thursday night, we're recording which one
- 17:55should which which line into Arkhamil.
- 18:00The old. 1:00 to 1:00 to see Aniya Shukra Kuan Tolhemini
- 18:04Vikrak, for example, and to provide me with gratitude
- 18:07towards you and to inspire me with your remembrance.
- 18:09Like these are things that we read on a weekly basis which you
- 18:12know, give us the inspiration to get close to all that.
- 18:14And through that vicar, the verbal spoken vicar, do we find
- 18:17that inspiration? Do you see what I mean?
- 18:19The the God centricity element of it is very important that
- 18:24comes back to self critiquing the the Mahasabha that we do on
- 18:30ourselves. The self accountability we do on
- 18:33ourselves allows us to think did I do that for me or did I do it
- 18:37with God in mind? Is the centre of my mission a
- 18:42last pang to Allah or is it my name, my favour, my, my, my
- 18:47personal interests, my my pockets?
- 18:50Do you see what I mean? Like.
- 18:51And, and because of that, we, we sometimes get distracted into
- 18:55doing things for the wrong intentions, even if they are
- 18:58godly. So for example, going to
- 19:00Majalis, speaking on a podcast, these are things which some
- 19:05people may say, yeah, they're doing work for God, work for
- 19:08God's mission. Alas Ponta, Allah wants people
- 19:10to talk about him and do his zicker and whatnot, but only
- 19:14Allah knows if in my heart I have true sincerity when doing
- 19:17this podcast as an example. I know you do.
- 19:19Rather than wanting to do it for my name and fame.
- 19:22Do you see what I mean? Like these are classic examples.
- 19:25And, and the last thing you mentioned about Shocker is so
- 19:30valuable. Well, I love him.
- 19:31I really believe it because we don't thank God enough, or at
- 19:33least I don't, you know, Imam Sajali Islam says, I, I, I, I
- 19:39thank, I, I, I thank you for the opportunity for, to be able to
- 19:42thank you. Like that in itself is something
- 19:45which is a blessing. Do you see what I mean?
- 19:47We would never be able to list the bounties which Allah has
- 19:51given us on this earth in in any case, we should at least try.
- 19:55Do you see what I mean? We should at least I I have this
- 19:58like habit for me personally, usually I do it no pun after
- 20:02Mahalob Salah like like for me personally I find that the I
- 20:07know you asked me in the past which is my favorite Salah.
- 20:09I said Vohor. And recently it's been more
- 20:12Mahara Besha, maybe because it's later in the day.
- 20:14It's always been Mahara for me. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 20:17I can tell by the by the what we named the podcast.
- 20:20But do you know what that is? It's I think it's for me because
- 20:23now it's later in the day. So for me, my day's coming to an
- 20:25end. It's quiet, Kids are sleeping.
- 20:29And when I give that attention to prayer and when I do the such
- 20:35that after Salah and I do my Shoka, I challenge myself in my
- 20:39mind and I think, what can I thank God for which I haven't
- 20:43thanked from, you know, thanked him for previously or maybe
- 20:47earlier today or maybe recently. And I start thinking of random
- 20:50things. Thank you a lot for giving me a
- 20:51nice neighbour. You know, thank you a lot of my
- 20:53neighbours. My old place, my neighbour was
- 20:55like playing loud music, Hamdullah.
- 20:57Now I've got a nice neighbour. Do you know what I mean?
- 20:59Small things like that which we take for granted, we don't even
- 21:02recognise. So these are just, you know.
- 21:05I love you rang that up. Maybe I'll share me as well,
- 21:09like after my SO, for example, if I'm praying a lot and
- 21:13afterwards together. Yeah, I'll, I'll, I'll do my
- 21:16sedute of thanks and things like this after after I'll do it.
- 21:23After. After Salah ends and when I'm
- 21:26saying, for example, Shukra and Allah, on the days that I do, I
- 21:30don't do every day. When on the days that I say
- 21:32Shukra and Allah, the, the, the beauty of it is that we're not
- 21:35well, I'm not I, I, I hope I'm not.
- 21:37When I'm saying Shukra and Allah, I'm, I'm, I'm thanking
- 21:40God at the same time I'm remembering why I'm thanking
- 21:42God. Yeah.
- 21:43And then I'm saying Al Hamdulillah and, and trying to
- 21:46recall why I'm saying al Hamdulillah.
- 21:48Then I'm doing a staff for Allah.
- 21:49Yes. Now we're doing Stafar and at
- 21:51the same time trying to remember why don't why am I doing this so
- 21:55far and sometimes these are sins from when I was 15.
- 21:58Yeah, yeah. And those ones when.
- 21:59And they can live until today. Which you've said thousand times
- 22:03to this stuff and you've still not been like it still weighs
- 22:08on. You and this is the beauty, you
- 22:09know, Subhanallah, we we know Allah as Alhamar Rahimin.
- 22:12Yeah, Yeah. We know that he loves it when we
- 22:14like sort of cling. You know, we keep asking for
- 22:18forgiveness. We keep looking for that door of
- 22:19repentance. And we keep looking for
- 22:21acceptance from Allah to inshallah eliminate all our sins
- 22:25and inshallah grant us the opportunity to enter his
- 22:27paradise Generatallah. But I don't know.
- 22:31I mean, do we really not thank God enough?
- 22:33I think we don't. And I think you're right.
- 22:34Take it. We do.
- 22:35We do take it for granted. And it's it's a shame because we
- 22:39thank people for doing the most silliest of things.
- 22:43We can't thank Allah for the best of things he's given us,
- 22:47honestly. Yeah, I mentioned a bit early on
- 22:49I was like, no, thanks to a lot that we can walk, thanks to a
- 22:52lot that we can talk. Thanks to a lot we can, I don't
- 22:55know, taste, smell, feel, bro, we can even love.
- 22:58And this is Rahma from God. The feeling of yeah, what the
- 23:02Rahmah and Muhabba, bro, this is all coming from God and there's
- 23:05so much things to be grateful for.
- 23:07Yeah. But I don't know how we can
- 23:09always be in that stage. Yeah, that's that's what the
- 23:12difficulty is. See, one thing I think is.
- 23:14And I don't want to blame shape on.
- 23:15No, no, you're completely right. What lie?
- 23:17You're completely right. And I think, shocker, what it
- 23:18does is in many ways it humbles us because we recognize what we
- 23:22didn't have and what Allah has given us.
- 23:24And then ultimately we say has to be or not, has to be Allah.
- 23:27And we say that everything is under the dominion of Allah and
- 23:30we're pleased with his affairs, with his choices because for
- 23:34everything that we have, it comes from God.
- 23:36So, and many times we we seek things which are material but
- 23:41also immaterial. Yes, Yeah.
- 23:43Like for example, the material wealth, immaterial, maybe
- 23:48dignity, reputation, honour, these are things that we seek.
- 23:52Sometimes we link the two. How many times have we seen in
- 23:55the community someone who gains wealth and then subsequently
- 24:00people start to respect him, They want to be around him, they
- 24:03think he's cool. And then maybe they lose their
- 24:05position, they lose money. People talk about him, they do
- 24:07Reba about him perhaps and and in the people's eyes, he loses
- 24:11honour. He loses the hadith mam sadaq al
- 24:13Islam where he says, if I'm not mistaken, richness and honour.
- 24:17These two things are wandering like they're wayfaring.
- 24:21They only settle when you have tawakul and Allah.
- 24:25Allah, you have that trust in the last panel.
- 24:27Until you have that trust, you will never be settled with what
- 24:31Allah has given you. You will never, ever, ever find
- 24:35that our fear like that Peace of Mind, that contentment.
- 24:39I'm good, I'm the Allah. That's Sakun.
- 24:41Sakun with Allah. Sakun with Allah, Allah has
- 24:44given you. Do you see what I mean?
- 24:46Like you, we will always feel a yearning, a thirst that I want
- 24:50to earn more. I want more reputation.
- 24:53I want more honour from the people around me.
- 24:55I deserve more respect. Like these are things that we
- 24:57say or feel at least inside. But until we trust alone, we say
- 25:01Allah. I'm pleased with what you've
- 25:02given me. You know, I was looking today
- 25:04it's crazy panel. I was watching watching one of
- 25:09the many thousands of videos we've seen from Palestine.
- 25:12OK. And I saw a father.
- 25:14Oh, bro, it really hit me hard. I saw a father who was like
- 25:18literally shaking like this while he's talking for the first
- 25:21like 15 seconds, he's shaking. And I'm thinking, first I'm
- 25:24thinking, why is he shaking? And then I think, no, he's
- 25:26probably got a condition or something.
- 25:28He's in the wall. I remember that my thought
- 25:29process was crazy because the camera was just on him and he's
- 25:33like shaking. And I'm thinking he's probably
- 25:35got a conditional. He's developed trauma.
- 25:38Like he's in shock. He's in the war zone.
- 25:40He must know thousands of people that have been killed.
- 25:43And then like 1520 minutes into the video, 20 seconds into the
- 25:46video, he says, Allah, this is all we care about, has to be
- 25:51Allah. This is all I all I care about.
- 25:53Then he said, this is my son Mohammed.
- 25:55And the camera turns to his son who's wearing a coffin.
- 25:59OK. And he says that this son of
- 26:02mine, three days ago he said to his mother, mother, do you love
- 26:05me? And she said, yes, of course.
- 26:06He said he knew his destiny and ultimately Allah knows his
- 26:09destiny. I, Allah knows my destiny.
- 26:11I'm pleased with the world Allah has given me and why I'm
- 26:14thinking, how can someone be so trusting in the last panel to
- 26:18Allah for me? You know, what's the trust that
- 26:20we display in our lives? You know, you're on emergency
- 26:23fuel. Will my fuel Take Me Home or
- 26:25shall I stop to fill up gas like like that?
- 26:27That's kind of like the day-to-day things that we have
- 26:29in our lives. Smaller level dilemmas.
- 26:32But you know, we, we talk about people who are in war zones
- 26:35facing genocides and the sort of trust they have is so, so
- 26:41magnanimous. Do you see what I mean?
- 26:43It's it's mind blowing to see what sort of trust they have.
- 26:46And I think there's, like you said earlier, there are people
- 26:50who who go through a lot more. But it's, it's definitely a
- 26:54lesson to us. Let me ask you a question
- 26:58because I know we wanted to wrap up early today.
- 27:00We want to try and do smaller short podcasts But do you think
- 27:04we we trust God in us in this like social media, materialism
- 27:11captives world we live in? Do we trust our last Montana
- 27:14enough? I would like to think I do and I
- 27:19think just, I don't know collectively as we I can't speak
- 27:22on behalf of everyone. And I think just before I get to
- 27:25that point, I just want to mention what you just mentioned
- 27:27about, you know, the father and his son.
- 27:29Yeah. So I I don't want to go into too
- 27:33much depth here, but I do want to say thank you for bringing
- 27:35this because it makes you it makes me remember as well the I
- 27:38need some some people face the most craziest things.
- 27:43And we have it wallah so easy and we can't say Al Hamdulillah
- 27:47what's our problem? What's our problem?
- 27:50Yeah, it's seriously crazy. And I truly believe with all the
- 27:54points we said previously, it is impossible.
- 27:57Trust me, it's impossible to consider yourself as a Muslim if
- 28:01you can't put God part and parcel of your life.
- 28:05You can't if this person who lost the world, voila to them is
- 28:12the world bro when you lose your son.
- 28:15Bro, do you know what he said you're losing?
- 28:16A part of you. He said, he said, he said I have
- 28:19worked so hard to raise him. He goes, I, I, he goes, I had
- 28:22hardship in raising him, but I trust in God and I think I like,
- 28:26I don't want to say it, man, but it's like like I have a son.
- 28:29Do you know what I'm saying? Like, and I was, I was getting
- 28:32proper emotional, man. I was thinking, I have in my
- 28:34head I'm like, yeah, I'm working hard to raise my son was working
- 28:37hard up on YouTube. I'm doing my work on my laptop.
- 28:41He's chilling. Do you know what I mean?
- 28:43Am I really working hard? This man probably sold goods on
- 28:47the street and worked day and night to provide for his family.
- 28:51And that a lot takes his his son like.
- 28:53That no, we, we, we take that. Literally, literally, he just
- 28:56shook my core. I just we.
- 28:59Just say, you know, surely with hardship comes ease and well, we
- 29:04haven't seen hardship. Believe me, if, if, if we have
- 29:07not seen hardship. I, I compared to some parts of
- 29:10the world and how people live their lives and the afflictions
- 29:12that come towards them, the, the problems and the obstacles and
- 29:15the challenges they have. There is no comparison well
- 29:18with, with what we face. If we have, if we can come here
- 29:22weekly and have a conversation here on the Aftermath podcast.
- 29:27We've got no challenges. We've only have blessings to
- 29:29thank our I'm just so right. And, and, and and this is
- 29:32something that we have to remember.
- 29:33And, you know, using that Palestinian father as an
- 29:35example, he he's seen the bad and the ugly and the terrible
- 29:39and the awful and the miserable and it's a life of misery.
- 29:42But you're telling me what he remembered a lot.
- 29:45Yeah. Yeah, I'm going to send you the
- 29:48video offer. If he can remember God in that
- 29:51moment, at that most difficult moment.
- 29:54Yeah. We have no excuse.
- 29:56Yeah. Well, now we have no excuse.
- 29:58I, I, I, I don't want to speak about too much.
- 30:00Maybe we'll go back to, to to to what cool here.
- 30:03But if we come into a similar situation as this father and a
- 30:07different challenge. Yeah.
- 30:10If something bad comes towards us, we see it as bad.
- 30:13I just trust me, we see it as bad.
- 30:14Gone. Yeah, I want to add a slight
- 30:16caveat because someone or a good friend of mine, a brother of
- 30:19mine mentioned to me a couple of days ago how he had a shift in
- 30:22and he, I know he listens to the podcast.
- 30:24So if you're listening, I love you shout out.
- 30:27He said he had a shift in mentality over the last few
- 30:29days. He said a few days ago, he said
- 30:33he actually said to me, and I remember him, he actually said
- 30:35it to me. He said this world doesn't
- 30:37matter. I only care about the next life
- 30:40accent. He only said that right?
- 30:42Accent. OK, so then a few days after.
- 30:46I love this brother already. Yeah, he's a, he's one-of-a-kind
- 30:48of Subhan Allah. A few days later, he said to me,
- 30:51Actually, Ahmed, I've refined my my thought.
- 30:54OK. He said this world, I said
- 30:57doesn't matter, the only next one does.
- 30:59He goes. But Allah has put me in this
- 31:01world now, so while I'm here, I need to give it my all.
- 31:04Allah. I swear.
- 31:05Well, I love him. He spoke facts, like, and he,
- 31:09his whole demeanour changed. Yeah, he, he it was crazy, bro.
- 31:14Like he, he was like a different person.
- 31:16Mashallah, an Angel, you know, the way he dressed, the way he
- 31:19talks, everything, his confidence.
- 31:22He had a shift in mentality because he was going through a
- 31:24difficult situation and we were discussing it.
- 31:27And he made a very good point. He said, I have tawakul La La, I
- 31:31trust in God. You know, and we say we've said
- 31:33in the past how tawakul is in, in, in, in our literature as
- 31:39compared to the bird that leaves its nest in the morning, leaving
- 31:42behind its babies and not knowing if it will find food,
- 31:46but still returning with the food every night.
- 31:48It's because it has that trust in Allah you have to work on.
- 31:52You know, you trust in God, but it doesn't mean you don't work
- 31:54for it, right? You, you do what you need to do.
- 31:57You do your daily actions, your work, you engage with your
- 31:59family, you. But you don't say, yeah, yeah,
- 32:02leave it to God. I'm here temporarily, Annie.
- 32:05I'm going to be gone soon. I'm going to head to Jenna.
- 32:07I do my DAR command. I do my this and that.
- 32:10No, like you're here. Make the most of it.
- 32:13Put God first. And that includes helping people
- 32:16out around you, people who don't have that or don't, who need a
- 32:21wasilla, basically someone to act as an an intermediary
- 32:24between God's, God's will for them and you are that person who
- 32:28is enacting it. Well, you have to understand
- 32:30what that toaquil is that reliance on a lost planet
- 32:33Wataala because and and trust in the loss of planet Wataala
- 32:36because it can be simple as the American dollar bill and God we
- 32:39trust. Yeah.
- 32:40It's just words written on a paper bill and people, it's just
- 32:44lip service. So we really have to understand
- 32:45that. And I think you can even have
- 32:47tawaqul in your most lowest moments of your life, like when
- 32:52you hit rock, rock bottom, don't neglect a lot.
- 32:54You don't have that reliance on God, that God will take you out
- 32:58of that as well. Yeah.
- 32:59And I always remember God because a lot of Hanuvatallah
- 33:04bro Ahmed and and I think to everyone listening, he never
- 33:07ever promised any of us comfort. He never promised any of us that
- 33:11you know we're going to have the best life in the studio.
- 33:13On the contrary. Yeah, he, he, he brought us here
- 33:17so that we can safeguard and ensure and guarantee that we
- 33:21enter gender in the next World, you understand, And we have to
- 33:24work for it. And that goes with everything.
- 33:26Making God part and part of your life, making God central in your
- 33:29life, just like you mentioned earlier.
- 33:30I mean, Ali, Ali Salaam, where you said, you know, he saw God
- 33:34in every action before, during and after.
- 33:40Can we do that? I know it's not simple, but if
- 33:43we reach that stage, we will understand what Tawakkol is,
- 33:47what reliance is, what you know, and because the problem is we
- 33:50only use God to our benefit in a selfish way.
- 33:53I was having this discussion with someone once.
- 33:56There was a guest with one of the guests that we've had on the
- 33:59podcast. It wasn't on the podcast in a
- 34:01different setting where we were discussing how can one be
- 34:06selfish with God and the idea was we only want God for
- 34:11travelling, we ask for safety. We only want God.
- 34:14For example, you know, to we, we only pray to our life.
- 34:18We want money, we only pray to our life.
- 34:20We want to marry this girl. We only pray to.
- 34:23It's selfish. So we're not doing it for God,
- 34:25we're doing it for us. And, and, and the moment you
- 34:27understand that no, there is more, that relationship with God
- 34:30is more is greater and there is something you know that that
- 34:34connects this world to the next. You know, there's a akhara, you
- 34:37know, there's Hassab, there's Kitab, there's consequences for
- 34:39your actions. Once you understand all of this,
- 34:42you have metaphor of God, bro, you can roam this earth knowing
- 34:46Insha Allah, you enter gender because if you just want God in
- 34:50a one way relationship, What, what, what was that?
- 34:53There's this. I lost my mind now, this hadith
- 34:57by Imam Ali as saying where he doesn't, he doesn't worship God
- 35:02because he said this doesn't matter.
- 35:03What is it? The three types.
- 35:05Yeah, yeah. The three types, that's the.
- 35:06Ones. There's the one who worships in
- 35:09fear because he's in fear of punishment, the one who worships
- 35:13transactionally. So they are they, they treat a
- 35:16lot like a give and take relationship.
- 35:17OK, I'll do this if you give me that.
- 35:19This is what we're doing. Yeah.
- 35:20What do you mean? This is what people do?
- 35:23Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. When you, when you say that I, I
- 35:25want money. So I'll pray to God for God.
- 35:27And then the third type is the one who's who worships Allah
- 35:30because Allah is worthy. We always say that Jannah for
- 35:33the believer could be an empty space.
- 35:35This is why I always tell myself and I always tell myself, am I
- 35:38worthy of Jannah? Because if, if Allah told me
- 35:40that Jannah, your eternity in an empty room with nothing but a
- 35:44prayer man and a Torah bar, would that be sufficient?
- 35:47Do you know what I mean? And I know that's not the case
- 35:48because we're told in the Quran that it's much more than that.
- 35:51But for the believer, that's sufficient because you worship
- 35:54Allah because he is worthy and weird and significant.
- 35:57Yep. Do you know what I mean from me
- 35:59at last point? And then I know we'll wrap up.
- 36:01I just want to make a point to everyone at home, anyone who's
- 36:06struggling and anyone who is going through these things and
- 36:09they're saying, you know, I am praying.
- 36:12Allah's not taken me out of it. I am struggling.
- 36:14Allah's not taking me out of it, you know, or I've tried praying.
- 36:18Allah's not like got to be to where I want to be.
- 36:21Just keep going. Don't give up on yourself.
- 36:23Don't give up on your ibadah. Don't feel alone.
- 36:27Just know that there's many of us suffering in different ways.
- 36:30Everyone has a different challenge.
- 36:32Some have it harder than others. And if if you are one of those
- 36:36people that, that have it harder and you know, you have it
- 36:38harder, Allah gives his strongest warriors his toughest
- 36:43battles. And that's such an important
- 36:44thing for us to remember. Allah does not task so more than
- 36:48it can bear to the point where we know that you know, this is
- 36:52your destiny. Unfortunately, it's it's been
- 36:54destined for you to, to go through it, but you can overcome
- 36:57it because Allah has given it to you.
- 36:59Put it on your road and he knows that you'll get past it.
- 37:02So just keep going, keep keep plowing ahead in Charlotte day
- 37:06by day, minute by minute, whatever it is, try your
- 37:09absolute best to just smile, be positive, have strength, have
- 37:14love. And we're here.
- 37:15We we, we always say we're a family.
- 37:17So if ever you want to shout us and DM us, whatever it is, you
- 37:21know, we're, we're always listening here.
- 37:23We're not like counsellors and we get like Handela a lot of
- 37:26messages, but whatever we can do to respond, we will.
- 37:29That's that's from me. So.
- 37:32Well, that was beautiful. Yeah, it's something, it's
- 37:34something I'm, I'm going to take to my life as well.
- 37:37And I think maybe I can add this.
- 37:39It's that struggle is worth it. 100%.
- 37:42Because as I said, you know, God didn't say that we're here to be
- 37:45comfortable. He didn't brought us here to be
- 37:48miserable. No, no, he brought us here as a
- 37:49test. You know, this whole, this whole
- 37:51donea as a test for us for the next life.
- 37:53But the, the, the, the point I want to say is that the more you
- 37:56struggle, the more that's part of your jihad.
- 37:58And that's, and yeah, you may slack sometimes, you may go low
- 38:02sometimes. But when you're, when you're
- 38:04reaching those highs and you're reaching those understandings,
