- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Amharic with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and as always, my wonderful co-host Luna is here with me. Today we're going to talk about the weather — specifically, cloudy and foggy skies. Have you ever woken up to a foggy morning, Luna? Luna: Oh, definitely. Especially in the hills. The fog gets so thick you can hardly see the road. But I don't know how to say that in Amharic yet. Lucas: Perfect timing. Today we've got two words for you: ደመናማ, which means cloudy, and ጭጋጋማ, which means foggy. Let's start with cloudy. Repeat after me: ደመናማ. Luna: ደመናማ. That's fun to say. ደመናማ. Lucas: Exactly. You can use it like this: ዛሬ ደመናማ ነው. That means 'Today is cloudy.' Give it a try. Luna: ዛሬ ደመናማ ነው. So ዛሬ is 'today' from our earlier episode, right? And ነው is 'is'. Lucas: You've got it. Now, for foggy, we say ጭጋጋማ. It's a bit longer, but take it slow. ጭጋጋማ. Luna: ጭጋጋማ. Oof, that's a mouthful. ጭጋጋማ. Did I get it right? Lucas: Yes, you did. And you can say 'It's foggy this morning' like this: ጠዋት ላይ ጭጋጋማ ነው. ጠዋት means 'morning', and ላይ is 'on' or 'in the morning'. Luna: ጠዋት ላይ ጭጋጋማ ነው. That's a whole sentence. I feel like a real speaker. Lucas: You are one. Now, let's put these into a tiny scene. Imagine you're looking out the window with a friend. You could say, ዛሬ ደመናማ ነው. And your friend might reply, አዎ፣ ዛሬ ደመናማ ነው. Or if it's foggy, ጠዋት ላይ ጭጋጋማ ነው. Luna: So I could combine them? Like, ዛሬ ደመናማ ነው እና ጭጋጋማ ነው. Both at once. Lucas: Exactly. And that's a great sentence. Luna: You know, this is really useful. I mean, we talk about the weather all the time. Lucas: Totally. And if these little lessons are helping you make progress with Amharic, the best way to keep them going is by supporting the show. You can buy us a coffee at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It helps keep everything ad-free. Luna: Yeah, that's right. Every little bit helps us keep making these episodes. And honestly, we love doing this. Lucas: So, back to the weather. We've got cloudy and foggy, but what about asking what the weather will be like tomorrow? That's a great question: ነገ ምን ይመስላል? That means 'How will it be tomorrow?' or literally 'What does tomorrow look like?' Luna: ነገ ምን ይመስላል? So I could ask that, and someone might say ነገ ደመናማ ነው or ነገ ጭጋጋማ ነው. Lucas: Precisely. Let's practice that question together. Repeat after me: ነገ ምን ይመስላል? Luna: ነገ ምን ይመስላል? That rolls off the tongue nicely. Lucas: Now, let's do a quick round. I'll say a sentence, and you tell me if it's cloudy or foggy. Ready? ዛሬ ደመናማ ነው. Luna: Cloudy. That's ደመናማ. Lucas: Good. And ጠዋት ላይ ጭጋጋማ ነው? Luna: Foggy. That's ጭጋጋማ. Lucas: Perfect. You're a natural. Let's do one more practice. Imagine you're texting a friend. You might write: ነገ ምን ይመስላል? And they'd reply: ነገ ደመናማ ነው ይመስላል. That means 'I think tomorrow will be cloudy.' Luna: ነገ ደመናማ ነው ይመስላል. So we add ይመስላል for 'I think'. That's a nice touch. Lucas: Exactly. And to wrap up, let's run through today's phrases one last time: ደመናማ, ጭጋጋማ, ዛሬ ደመናማ ነው, ጠዋት ላይ ጭጋጋማ ነው, and ነገ ምን ይመስላል? Luna: That's a lot, but I feel good. Can we do one more round of the question? I want to make sure I've got it. Lucas: Of course. Repeat after me: ነገ ምን ይመስላል? Luna: ነገ ምን ይመስላል? Perfect. Lucas: Great job. Now you're ready to chat about the weather in Amharic. Thanks for joining us today. Practice these phrases, and we'll see you next time for more Amharic with Fexingo. Luna: Bye for now, and don't forget to practice.
