- Amanda: What is up, guys? Welcome back to another episode of Let's Talk Football Married Edition, your favorite place for fantasy football, NFL hot takes, questionable opinions, and just a little or a lot of bit of marital disagreements to keep things interesting. We're your hosts, Amanda, and for those of you on YouTube, Hatless Drew, baby. I think this is your first episode without a hat, so I gotta draw attention to it. What's up? Drew: Certainly is. Did not want to go get one from downstairs, so I decided just to Amanda: I figured. Drew: rock without it. Amanda: Hatless Drew, baby, just as hot if I do say so myself, but I'm your wife, so I'm allowed to say that. It's fair, it's fair. Drew: Yeah, I've also had one I've also had one on all day, so just kinda trying to, you know, let the hair loose a little bit. Amanda: Air it out a little bit, air it out. I get you gotta let the flow loose a little bit every now and then. Our Drew: Has it tied up. Amanda: well, whatever. We're recording this episode on September 1st, and we drafted this weekend, so fantasy football drafts are in full action. A lot of people will finally draft this weekend over Labor Day as well. And then we kick off the season next week. So we are it's here, we're ready. I'm so freaking excited. So we're gonna do a bunch of stuff in this episode. So we're gonna talk about some of our sleeper picks. we're gonna go over a live draft recap. Drew and I drafted this past weekend in a league that we are in together. So we're gonna go over a little live recap of that draft. But first, before we dive into all the good stuff, let's talk about a little updates for the podcast. We've had a lot of questions on this, so we're gonna give you all of the official updates so you can know exactly what to expect here. So our schedule for the rest of the season, we will be doing an episode that drops on Tuesday every single week. And that will be reactions from the games over the weekend. So reactions from the Thursday, from the Saturday, hello, not Saturday, from the Sunday games. and we'll go over all of that in our Tuesday episode that we drop. We'll also have a little bit of early waiver wire talk, but just know we will be recording that episode prior to actually having formal waiver wire lists. So we're just gonna talk a little bit of early waiver wire information in that Tuesday episode. We'll then drop an episode every single Thursday. And that Thursday episode will drop, well, that we drop will cover all things Thursday night football and half of the weekend's matchup. So Thursday episode, Thursday night football sit starts, and half of the matchup sit start decisions for you on Thursday. Saturday will be our third episode of the week, and that will be the rest of the matchups, and we'll talk sit starts for the rest of the matchups left on that Saturday episode. Our full waiver wire will be released only in our Patreon. So we will drop a Patreon exclusive waiver wire talk every single Tuesday. Obviously, after all of our stats get collected, we'll be able to do that a little bit later on Tuesdays. And our exclusive Patreon members, because yes, we're bringing it back. I've got that question like 65 bajillion times. So we are in fact bringing back the Patreon and that is what we will do our exclusive waiver wire talk on Tuesdays. And then we'll also do threads for our sit starts there in the Patreon to optimize your lineup as well. That will be the same paid Patreon as last year, so five dollars. And you get access to all of this exclusive content to make sure you absolutely demolish your fantasy football league. So that is our update for Let's Talk Football Married Edition. We're excited. Last year we only brought you guys one episode a week. This week, this year we're able to bring you guys three episodes a week and do even more exclusive content in our Patreon. So I'm really excited. Just a little bit more value and also more digestible episodes to be able to get you more tactical information for every single sis star and everything. You excited for Drew? Drew: yeah, I'm real pumped. it'll Amanda: Humped it. Drew: be i I'm excited for the season to start. I'm j I'm tired of talking about what this player could do and what that player could do. I I'm ready to start seeing some football on the field, start seeing some touchdowns in the end zones, hopefully for, you know, the players that are on my team and not my opponent's team, but we'll see how that goes this year. Every year's different. Amanda: Ooh, we shall see. obviously we always like to to chat a little bit about our lives before we fully jump into the episode. And we played in a golf outing this weekend or yeah, this this weekend, or no, scramble today. Yeah. We I'm sorry. Drew: It's a scramble today. We we played a scramble today. Amanda: This day is like one big long, never ending run-on sentence. Drew: Yeah. Amanda: I had like I told Drew I have like the worst like sleep performance issues where I can't fucking sleep worth a shit right now. And so casually got up at four fifteen and, you know, haven't have been going at it since, but that's all right. But more importantly than asking you about how you feel like golf went, because you can tell me how good I am at driving a golf ball. I'm gonna ask you a different question that you don't know about, but like are you gonna let me get the dog or no or yeah. Drew: I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. We'll see. I I it lo he looks adorable, but I don't know if I'm ready Amanda: yeah. He's a cutie. Drew: for having the responsibility of a dog being back in the house again. Amanda: Run it back of a dog again. Me and Drew had two lovely pups, and they both passed away you know, about a year ago now, both of them. And we've been dogless ever since. And I stalk the shelter that's close to us basically every single day, waiting for the jackpot dog to come up that Drew finally lets me go and get. And one day we'll introduce our new dog on the podcast once he podcasts. Drew: Yeah. Raven was over a year ago. Benny was just about five months ago, so it hasn't been that Amanda: I know, yeah. It Drew: long. Amanda: no, it hasn't been that long. We're still working off the open wounds of our of our animals there because Drew: yeah. Amanda: that was not so fun. All right. Well, Drew: All right. News and updates? Amanda: let's get into news and updates. We can diverse you can make me defer the dog for a later day, I suppose. Go ahead. Drew: All right, so news and updates from around the league. number one, it's it's the biggest one. If you follow the NFL at all, I'm sure you've seen it or heard about it. Josh Jacobs, running back for the Green Bay Packers. We had talked in a previous episode a couple weeks ago about he had gotten into some off off the field issues this this offseason. Nothing had been charged yet. NFL obviously was still waiting for the legal process to go out or you know, to to make its process. he was officially charged with two misdemeanors. So he is now a misdemeanor wiener. and it effectively it's domestic violence, effectively. I it's battery was one of them. I don't know what they were. The video came out, TMZ got a hold of the video because of course they did. They get a hold of everything. And it's it's not good. it's Amanda: It's bad. Drew: it's it's Ray Rice all over again, basically. It's elevator, he it's it's not good. So if you haven't seen it and you got Amanda: Don't Drew: you know, a stomach for it. You can look at Amanda: don't even know. Drew: it, make your own decisions on if you think he's ever gonna play again. I I don't think he's gonna play this year for sure. I cannot imagine he plays this season. he was placed on the commissioner's exempt list basically means that he's suspended, but there's no time frame yet. Like they they they haven't come out and said he's suspended. You put him on this list and the NFL basically just says you're in limbo until we tell you what you can and cannot do. he's not gonna play this year. He will be out at least a full calendar year with what it looks like, how bad it is. And look, he's he's twenty eight and a half years old. He'll be almost thirty coming if he's even allowed to play next year. Plus the negative publicity that any team that tries to bring him in is gonna have. I'm not sure he ever plays in the NFL again myself. Amanda, what do you think? Yeah. Amanda: I don't think he should. I don't think he should. Yeah, I I I it it might yeah I have a very hot not a hot take, but a very strong take on like until the NFL starts to take some of this bullshit more seriously, i it's never going to become actually a a solvable thing. Not that I think that it'll ever be solved because for some reason it happens far more often than it should, but nonetheless, no, I don't think he should be able to play in the NFL again. And he goes on my big weenie butthole list forever, even if he did, wouldn't touch that dude with No, absolutely not. Drew: Yeah. Amanda: He does not deserve to even sniff the NFL again and he should be fined a shit ass son of money and it should all go to domestic violence and it just Drew: Well, the fine essentially will be i if he's if it's a if it's Amanda: It shouldn't yeah, it's just it's a whole conversation. Drew: he'll he's gonna lose a lot of his contract, that's effectively the fine. I mean he's you're talking mult multimillion dollar loss yeah. So Amanda: As he should. Yeah. Drew: anyway, so what that does for fantasy and on the field implications. So he's gone. I I wouldn't even think about him being on the field this year at all. Hopefully you haven't drafted yet. If you have, I'm sorry. He's not gonna be there for you. If you have not yet Marshawn Lloyd, Chris Brooks, and the newly acquired Caleb Johnson are the three running backs on the roster. We don't know exactly what it's gonna look like. Marshawn Lloyd is gonna get the first opportunity. They drafted him two years ago in the third round. They really liked him coming out of college. He played one game in two seasons. He's gotten he got hurt after one game in his first season and the second season. He Got hurt in the preseason and he's been out. So one game in two years. He look, that's not good, right? But he's gonna get the first opportunity. I'm personally taking the approach that he's the RB one. It's just very, very risky, but the upside's pretty high. Chris Brooks Brooks is more of a third down back. They use him for pass blocking, not really even receiving. He's a very good pass blocker. So I I don't imagine that he's involved too much in fantasy. Don't draft him. I'm not interested in him. we'll see what Caleb Johnson does. He was drafted in the third round by the Steelers last year, and to be traded already after one season shows you how poorly his rookie season went. he fumbled his first touch in the NFL and then basically wasn't played Amanda: Depressing. Drew: the rest of the season. I'm not interested in Caleb Johnson either. The only person I'm interested in is a dart throw for Marshawn Lloyd. Currently he's going I like a Amanda said, we drafted two days ago, and I got him in the tenth round. That was with the news that Josh Jacobs had two misdemeanors. That was without the news that he was put on the commissioner's ex exempt list. So now Josh Jacobs will completely free fall out, and I'm assuming that Marshawn Lloyd is By the by next weekend, if you've got a Labor Day weekend draft, I'm assuming Marshawn Lloyd's probably gonna be propped up into the eight-ish round. I don't think I take him any higher than that. I see him with the upside of like a late teens to mid 20s running back by the end of the year. I I don't think he can be a top ten guy. And and honestly, just the risk of him being injured all the time makes me a little nervous and it should make a lot of people. So if he's somewhere in the eighth round and you and you want to Take him on your squad. I think that's okay. Maybe the seventh. I would not go any higher than that. anyway, so that's the backfield situation for the Packers. coming down here, a few more injury updates. Jeremiah Love had the ankle injury in the preseason in the Hall of Fame game, or week one, I can't remember. It was a couple weeks ago. he is trending to play week one. George Kittle had the Achilles injury last year really late in the season. He is set to start practicing this week. He is still up in the air for week one. if you do draft George Kittle, because you can still get him at a discount in a lot of drafts right now, I would just take him. I would not take another tight end later, and then I would wait until the week of the game. So next week, and if he is ruled out, I am completely comfortable with putting him on my in my IR spot, which frees up a bench spot, and then going out and getting Jake Tonges, which is his backup in San Francisco. Played very well when Kittle was out last year. I'm very comfortable picking up Tonges and starting him week one, especially against the Rams. Yes, it's a great defense. However, they did give up a lot of points to the tight ends last year, especially against San Francisco. So I'm interested in that as a play. And it doesn't take up an extra draft spot or roster spot until then. you have Alec Pierce from the Colts. He is making his way back from an ankle injury. He was he's been activated off the pup. He is starting to practice. He is eyeing a week one, one return. I don't expect him to I don't think he'll play week one, and even if he does, he will not be in my lineup. I don't think he'll be fully ramped up until week two or three, getting into football shape, conditioning, especially 'cause it was his ankle, so there's only so much you can do cutting wise. I'm not gonna play him off right off the bat, but he's kind of slipped back into a very nice spot in the drafts. Amanda, I know you got him on your team in the eighth, Amanda: Yeah. I did. Drew: eight the very last pick of the eighth round. I think that's great. Amanda: Mm. Drew: and then last one, Patrick Mahomes had the knee injury last year. All reports that he is on track for week one and should be the starter week one. So good news on that front. Amanda: All right. Well, we will get started with a little bit of that draft recap, like we talked about. So Drew and I are in that league together. That league is a 12 team, full PPR, so full point per reception league. It is a start, you start one quarterback, two running backs, two wide receivers, two flex positions, a defense, and a kicker. So I drafted from the one one. So I did get the first pick in the draft, which I just had like this, you know. Idea of me walking into the draft, like, yeah, I have the first pick. What's up? Anyways, my quarterback is none other than Dak Prescott. My running backs, I ended up with are Jameer Gibbs. He was my first pick. DeAndre Swift, Drew: Shocker. Amanda: Kenny Gainwell, Aaron Jones, Chris Rodriguez, and gosh, is it Malik Washington? It's not Malik Washington, it's my it's Malik. Okay. Mike, it's Mike. Mike Washington. Okay. I was like, it's not Malik, Drew: Yep. I'm sorry. No no no. Mike Washington, running back for the Raiders. Yep. Amanda: it's Mike Washington. but there's Mike Malik. I get them both a little bit there. I think isn't there another Malik Washington? There's Malik Washingtons, isn't there? Or am I wrong in saying that? I thought there was another Drew: There's the receiver from Miami. I don't know about another one. Amanda: one too, but nonetheless, Mike Washington as well. My wide receivers, I ended up with George Pickens, Jalen Waddell. I ended up with another Washington, Drew: Parker Washington. Amanda: Parker Washington, Alec Pierce, and Devon Striblin. Stribling. Drew: So l yeah, so lame. I wanted him. Amanda: I know. I to I stole him from Drew. I did reach a little bit on him, but I really wanted him, so I did it anyways. My tight end is Brock Bowers. Did not think I'd actually be able to acquire him, and we'll talk about that in a minute. My defense is the Steelers and my kicker is Cam Little, and I like him. I don't know why, but his last name just makes me giggle. All right, Drew, what's your team? Drew: All right, my team is Lamar Jackson at quarterback, my running backs Cam Scatabou, Ramondre Stevenson, Jakori Krosky Merritt, Marshawn Lloyd, and Jonah Coleman at wide receiver, which is the strength of my team, is Amon Ross St. Brown, Justin Jefferson, Chris Olave, Carnell Tate, Rashid Shahid, Jacoby Lane, and Kaishawn Boutey. Boutet. Amanda: Betty Buda. Drew: booty booty. At tight end, I did pick George Kittle. defense, I have the Denver Broncos and kicker. I did not select one because fuck kickers, they shouldn't be a position in fantasy. and also if you don't draft a kicker early, we well the league that we play in has some experienced fantasy players and some not experienced fantasy players. The bottom like three or four teams in this league kind of get moved out and new people come in every year. It it's a friends league that's like some of their families in it and semi competitive. It's not the most competitive league I'm in, but it's not not competitive. There's still I think five or six of the people in this league are also in my other league. Well I guess only three of them now, but I like to test different things out. Yeah. Amanda: feel like we usually use this one like Drew of like it's fun to like fuck around and find out. Yeah, we can test a lot in this and like I I won this league last year and, you know, I my team was like tape and glue, but it's just fun to try some weird shit and to see like, hey, if I do this, how does my team end up or take a shot in a guy that like I don't want to in my my Drew: A different draft strategy. Mm-hmm. Amanda: f main league, which I have a women's only league I'm in and I've run for six years now. That's like my main focus. I don't test a lot out there. I'll test it out over here 'cause it is what it is, right? Drew: Yeah, yeah. This is my fourth league. I'm in my main home league, which we're in year like fourteen on, is, you know, the big one. And then I have two dynasty leagues, a dynasty and then which is the main dynasty league I'm in, and then I have a superflex dynasty, which was kind of a secondary thing we started a few years ago. And then this one. And this is kinda like my try some different things, redraft league, see what happens, you know, not super serious. I'm not you know, upset if I lose in this league every week. Yes, I'd like to win, but like if I lose my redraft league, I'm I'm I'm pissed, right? but Amanda: Devastating. Drew: yeah, I if I don't it was so anyway, back to the point with kickers, people in this league take kickers a little bit too early. And quite frankly, if I don't get, you know, Brandon Aubrey or one of the top two or three kickers, I don't care because there's not that big of a difference. And like you have no idea who's gonna be good and who's not gonna be good outside of the c top couple of people. So at that point, I don't typically draft kickers in leagues like this. I take an extra player at the draft, which gives me an extra week or two, depending on when the games start of camp reports, final roster cuts, who's gonna be the starting players at these certain positions. Then I will drop the one that I am, you know, less confident, or in this case, George Kittle might be hurt, or if somebody else gets hurt in the next week or doesn't start week one, I will then put them in my IR spot, pick up a kicker. And then it's like getting a bonus spot at the draft. So I typically don't take a kicker there. but anyway, that was those are our teams. So Amanda: Yeah. Drew: how do you think the draft went, Amanda? Amanda: Gosh, I don't know. I I feel like I don't mind. I don't mind my team. I I don't love them. I don't hate them. honestly, I did so many different mock drafts from the one-on-one and I I never had Bowers fall to me. I had Lamar fall to me. I drafted early onesies, I forgoed the one I I passed on onesies early. I tried all these different strategies. Well, Bowers fell to me, and he was the one onesie position that I was like very confident in the one that I wanted. Not that I didn't want Josh Allen because I would have taken him, but like he was the one that I was like, if he falls, that's the onesie position I'm willing to take early. And he fell. Well actually Josh Allen and Bowers fell to me at the after the first pick, at the second pick, second to third turn. And I was like end of the second, beginning of the third, and I was like, my gosh, Drew's upstairs, I'm downstairs, and I'm like, what do I do? And I'm like, you know, I'm frantic. Amanda's screaming and I have like really large hands and I tend to do weird things with them. And I was like freaking out. I was like, what do I do? my gosh. and Drew's like, you won't take both of them. He was really trying to goat me into taking both and really just like testing the strategy of if I do take two insane onesie positions early, how screwed is my team leader? I didn't. Drew: Yeah, we say don't take two onesies because it it doesn't typically but the number look, can you win? I know people, you know, the point people there p always people in the comments that are y you that's stupid. You Amanda: Stupid. Drew: should definitely take those. They're all like, look, can you win with two elite onesies? Yes. The numbers and probability state that that is not what most fantasy championship rosters do not have an elite tight end and an elite quarterback, at least that you drafted. Could you have traded for Maybe. But it doesn't typically happen. The probability's very low that that happens. So we're always gonna give advice that's use the the highest probability method because that's your best chance at winning a fantasy championship. And frankly, if you finished second and you had two elite onesies, you still failed because you didn't win the championship. It's all Amanda: Didn't win. Drew: about the ring, baby. Amanda: Yeah, yeah. And and I mean, looking back, I I've still like the Bowers decision. I feel like I'm a little weak in I don't love my wide receiver room. I would have loved one more. I don't know. I I'm torn on it. I like it and I hate it all at the same time. I love my Gibbs Swift combo. I think that's gonna hold me down in the running back room. The rest of my running backs don't love don't hate yeah, I I'm indifferent. I got a stack. Yeah. Drew: You gotta st you gotta stack. I I mean the the the Dak Prescott, and George Pickens stack is nice. So I I definitely like that. For those of you Amanda: Mm-hmm. Drew: who don't know, the stack is you have a quarterback and receiver from the same team. That way, when George Pickens catches a touchdown, you will also get the touchdown from Dak Prescott. So then it's a twelve point touchdown for your fantasy team instead of a six point can be very valuable. That's one of my favorites of the year. So I definitely like that. Love Bowers, obviously Gibbs, so that's really strong core. Swift, I think, is a good RB two for ya. I Amanda: Read. Drew: again receiver is a question mark for sure. And running back depth is a question mark. If Bucky's Amanda: Yeah. Drew: healthy, how much is Kenny used or valuable? And I am out on Aaron Jones this year as well. So Amanda: I'm I was just betting on Yeah, I'm really hoping that he gets a lot of third down work and Drew: Kenny? Amanda: y n Kenny, yes. Also I I don't know, I took a flyer on Aaron Jones. I'm like, hey, maybe Drew: Yeah. Amanda: I like Jordan Mason too, but I he was never gonna wrap back around to me in order for me to take him. So yeah, how about you? Give me a little Go ahead. Drew: Best pit I also th the two best picks in my opinion. You got Alec Pierce at the eight twelve, I think is great value, Amanda: Yeah, I was insane. Drew: and Dejon Stribling. You Amanda: Yeah. Drew: j you knew you that you he wasn't gonna get back to you because I was down the board, so yeah. Amanda: No. I knew where you were drafting, you were gonna take him, yeah. Drew: All right, so my draft. yeah, I think it went well. Amanda: You got some steals. Like Drew was at the eight and he got some absolute insane play like I was pissed that I was drafted at the one. Drew: It it was weird. Amanda: Yeah. Drew: Yeah, it was a really weird draft. why she says I got a lot of steals most people don't have the stomach to do what I did and it look it may not work, but I did not take a running back until the fourth round, which is by far the latest that anyone in fact, nobody waited more than the I think the last team to have a running back before me would have been the three yeah, it would have been the the three 304 and I was the 405 before I took one. look, my I had a plan going in. I wanted an elite receiver that fell to me in the first round, and there were two running backs that I wanted to come back to me in the second round. So I had eight picks between my first and second second round. I was between Amon Raw and CeeDee Lamb in the first round. I picked Amon Raw. I also could have taken CeeDee. I I see them as equals. I love them both. I think they're both going to do great. I just picked Amon Raw because I like watching the Lions play football. then I was I I knew JT and and and HN and I I knew these guys weren't getting back. I was really hoping that Omar Hampton or Kenneth Walker got back to me. Neither one got back to me. Then I'm in a position because there were in the eight picks between my first round and my second round pick, seven of the eight picks were running backs. So none of the running backs that I was comfortable taking came back. I wasn't gonna take Kyron or Derrick Henry there. I think it was in my opinion, it's too much of a value taking a receiver over those running backs that are there. Justin Jefferson fell. So one thing we all we talked about don't fall don't chase the runs. There is value there. The fact that Justin Jefferson fell to the 205 is absolutely ridiculous. I'm gonna take that value. There's no reason he wasn't a first round pick, and it was because the people at the turn were scared not to have their running backs because they're on the the on the end. So I took JJ there. Coming back around, you know, another four, four, five, six running backs went before I went again. And look, it's I had Chris Olave, Malik Neighbors, T. Higgins, Devontae Smith, Egg Buka. They're all on the board. The next running back was Cam Scataboo. Well, I'm not taking Scataboo over those receivers, so I took Chris Olave and said, I'll wait on a running back. Then no other running back went. Cam Scattaboo fell to me. So by not chasing the runs, I built up a lot of value, ended up taking Cam there. And then I was going to take a running back coming back around. And Lamar Jackson fell to the fifth round, which is, again, ridiculous value. I didn't plan Amanda: Mm-hmm. Drew: on taking a quarterback early, but how do you not take that in the fifth round, right? Am I am I crazy there? Amanda: Yeah. No, no, no, no. No, no, no. That was a g when I saw him drop, I was like, Holy shit. Like people are still passing. And again, th the draft ended so odd where people were just like stockpiling running backs and also taking some players that I just like fully didn't agree with, weird, out of order. I was just like, What is happening? And yeah, no, your your strategy ended up working 'cause you Lamar fall to you and then Kittle ended up coming back around to you too, which I did not think was gonna happen. Drew: Yeah, I was gonna after Lamar Jackson, I was gonna take Byshal Tutin coming back around. Amanda: Mm-hmm. Drew: He was gonna be my RB two, and then he got scooped up. So I didn't take Amanda: Mm-hmm. Drew: a running back again the next pick, because I'm not gonna chase Jalen Warren or Jadarian Price, in my opinion, an entire round early just because I need a running back. So I just took another good receiver Amanda: No. Scared, right? Yeah. Don't play scared. Drew: and in a in a two flex league, most of the weeks you're gonna start four receivers, especially in a PPR league, which is what this is. Receivers are worth so much more than running backs from a total output standpoint. So you need more receivers on your roster because you're gonna start the the wide receiver 40 is gonna score more points than the running back 26, right? It's just the way it is in full PPR. so yeah, I took that again and look with that load up on receiver, get a surprise Lamar Jackson in the fifth. Then I've got one running back. I've got Cam Scattabu, I feel good about him. So how do you, if you're in this situation, then finish the draft and fill out your running back room? Because by the time I'm drafting running backs, it's it's it's not great names, right? So what I did is I took Ramondre Stevenson because I know he's a starter. He is going Amanda: Safe. Yeah. Drew: to get 50% of the work. He's a safe bet that will get me eight to ten points. Amanda: Boring but secure, yes. Drew: Boring. And if he can get me 10 points a week with my receiver core, I'm gr I'm very happy with that, right? And then it's load up. Excuse me, load up on these shoot your shot late around guys that have a clear path to be a breakout or a running back one on their team. Jaquari Krosky Merritt. Look, if he works, he's gonna be a steal where I got him. If Amanda: Mm. Drew: he works, there is risk involved. But Marshawn Lloyd, we talked about earlier, very risky. But if it works, he's the R B one on a good offense. Then I routed out with Jonah Coleman, from The Denver Broncos, that's a super late dart throw that look, he's RB3 on the depth chart, but we'll dive into that later. Amanda: We'll dive into that more later too, of yeah. Drew: So it's just a bunch of shots there that Ramondre's the safe play, Cam's the Bell Cow, and then I took a couple shots that if one of them breaks out, my running back room goes from looking kind of weak to looking really nice. and I have Chris Olave, and I have Amon Raw, and I have Amanda: Mm-hmm. Drew: JJ, and I have Lamar. So look. We don't know if it's gonna work, but take the value when it drops to you. Amanda: Yeah. No, I agree. You really did like demonstrate that really well in the draft of like not falling into the runs, not panicking, not taking a player just because you felt like you needed them and just trusted that the draft would work for you at some point. People have to stop picking the running backs. And like, yeah, it's it's risky and yeah, you might not have the most high upside running backs in your room. but that doesn't mean that it can't all work and you've got enough cover your ass elsewhere where it's okay if those guys don't bring Drew: Yeah. I mean hell j Amanda: you exactly what you need. Drew: George Kittle was the eleventh tight end taken. I didn't Amanda: Yeah. The like it Drew: have a plan on taking George Kittle, but in the ninth round, eleventh tight end off the board. Okay. Amanda: Insane. Yeah. Drew: I don't care if he's not there for a month. I'll pick up Jake Tonges and play him and be very Amanda: Exactly. Drew: happy with that. Plus I really like Jake Tonges. I just do. He's Amanda: Yeah, yeah. We talked about Jake Tonches a lot last year, specifically when Kittle was hurt and he was a a fun topic always. We know Brock Purdy loves his tight ends. We saw it last year. That's not going anywhere, right? Drew: Yeah. Loves it. He's so good at throwing to tight ends. Amanda: Yeah. Drew: It like he's so good at it that that position's so valuable and the Shanahan offense just he designed so much to tight ends that I'll take whoever's out there as long as they can, you know, have a heartbeat and can catch a football. Yeah. Amanda: Yeah. Competent. Yeah. Absolutely. Absolutely. All right. Overall, I agree. I think the draft went well. And we're going to move into our final segment here, which is just talking some late value sleepers for you. Some guys that we think could have a lot of potential and you can get them at a good steal deeper in the draft as well. So I'm going to be up first here. We're going to talk about none other than Jordan Mason. So he's the co starter in Minnesota. He is behind Aaron Jones. Well, behind Cher. Drew: Neck next to co starter. Yep. Amanda: 50, 50, 50. Co star. co-star, co-starter. splitting time with Aaron Jones. We saw Jordan Mason get a good amount of work last year when Aaron Jones got hurt as well. now, last year offense, not so good, right? however, this year we're hoping more scoring opportunities this year against, you know, the boxes that that aren't as stacked as they were last year against them. So we're hoping for more production. Nonetheless, last year. He is second year in the offense. Obviously, he rushed 159 times for 758 yards and six touchdowns, averaging four point eight yards per carry. He had 26 red zone touches compared to Jones's 14. So the math there shows us that, like, hmm, if we continue to let Jordan Mason develop in this offense with an older Aaron Jones, I hate calling these guys old because Well, they're not that old, but nonetheless, and older Drew: Younger than us. Amanda: for the position. Yes, they're younger than us, but older for the position, it makes sense that we should see more and more Jordan Mason. We would hope that we see ending the year with Jordan Mason getting most of that work, which is what you would expect to see based on the trends of how things developed last year as well. So the values there, what is his ADP right now, Jordan Mason? Drew: I I have it pulled up where he went in our live draft. He went eight two in a twelve team. Yeah. Amanda: That's fine. Eight or two. Okay. In the eighth. I mean, again, if you could get a starting running back that potentially can be a consistent starter for you in the eighth round, okay. Sign me up. Drew: Four point eight yard yeah, four point eight yards a carry is very good. Amanda: Very good. Drew: Yeah, that look the offense his numbers were great. The offense was just so bad last year that a split backfield on a bad offense Amanda: Third down, third down, turnover. It was just a mess. Drew: is tough for fantasy value, but his numbers are really good for his efficiency. So I'm super in on him. Amanda: Yeah. That offense was just like on the field, gone in like two point five seconds. It was just three and out every time. It was bad. Drew: Yeah. That would have been my pick easily. Honestly, Amanda: correct. Drew: I so when I got Ramondre, I was gonna double up and get Ramondre and Jordan Mason. And the only reason I picked Ramondre over Jordan Mason was because by ADP I thought that Jordan Mason would fall and I just guessed wrong. I I Amanda: Mm-hmm. Drew: would I would trade Ramondre for Jordan Mason because I think Mason's got a higher upside. I just guessed wrong on the turn and he didn't get back. But yep, I love him so All right, our next one is gonna be the aforementioned Jonah Coleman. Denver Broncos, he has the RB three on their depth chart right now. Look, this one is a very deep sleeper. It is not gonna be a great start to the season, or at least I don't think it will be. He's a rookie from Washington. Great measurables. He last year in his final year at Washington, he had 758 rushing yards, 15 rushing touchdowns. 31 catches, 354 yards, and two receiving touchdowns. So very competent back, good production profile. Went to a team that's coach always has valuable running backs in Sean Payton. Decent draft capital, drafted in the fourth round, 108th overall. So everything's there outside of the fact that there's two guys ahead of him on the depth chart. Now, if we look at that depth chart, J.K. Dobbins, who has been productive over the last couple of seasons, but always gets hurt. So assuming that JK gets banged up again this year, which I believe he has every single year of his career, I don't wish that on anybody. Never played a full season. Amanda: Never played a full season in the NFL, correct? Drew: I love look, JK's a very good running back. He also went to Ohio State. You know, we're from Ohio, so we watched Amanda: Yeah. We like JK. Drew: him a lot. Devastating injuries early in his career. He's a good running back now. I think he was a great running back before he got hurt. But he always gets hurt. He's getting older. He's twenty-seven years old now. Then you've got RJ Harvey behind him, and RJ Harvey did not look good on the field last year. I I'll say it over and over again. I don't think he's a good running back. I think he's just fast, but I don't think he's a very good running back. I also don't think that he's very good in that offense. a Sean Payton offense. I think Jonah Coleman fits the system better. I think he's a good red zone back. So again This is a guy that you could draft late in your drafts or pick up off the waivers. I took him late. If he doesn't look like he's involved in a couple weeks, after one or two weeks, I will drop him and pick up someone else on the off the waiver wire. But I will always keep my eye on him to see, hey, do I want to try to pick him up? Do I see JK s you know, yards per carry start to drop? Do I think they're gonna make a change? so I will keep my eye on him whether I draft him in my other leagues or not. very deep sleeper. But I I think it'll work out. So who do you have next, Amanda? Amanda: Yeah, I have Deshaun Stribling. I talked about him already in my draft because I drafted him deep in the draft, more as kind of that late round sleeper flyer option. But I think this is a really not just a potentially great option. I think I really think all paths show us that this is going to be a great option. He was picked with the first pick of the second round in this year's draft. Obviously, we're looking at the 49ers landscape. Ricky Pearsall, injured, out for the season. Debo just not looking good, looking old, just doesn't look productive in that offense. This means he could be, Stribling could be the starting wide receiver opposite of Mike Evans, who is also say it with me, old and also hurt a lot. Specifically, we've talked about it at nauseum, but a lot of those soft tissue injuries that just haven't actually ever fully gone away. He's been injured, injury reports twice already in preseason. We put him in the Mecca of injuries. Drew: Don't forget about the substation. Mm-hmm. Amanda: The substation. So nonetheless, like he's the opposite of Mike Evans, with a potential of Mike Evans getting hurt. Not only that, he's a very good blocker, which will keep him on the field more often, right? Because he's useful in the offense for more than just catching footballs, right? Which you have to be more, than just being able to go out there and one good run good routes and catch good footballs. You have to also block and create opportunities for other players, which he's very good at. Shanahan seems to really like him. and that that's good to know, right? We love the Shanahan offense as it is. They valued him very, very highly in the draft process. So there's a lot of targets up to grabs, not only with the injuries we've already talked about, but Kittle not being maybe fully ready for week number one. There's just a lot of targets out there, which I do believe are going to heavily be going his way. And he's a great rookie with a ton of freaking talent. And I think it's a no-brainer to try to snag that and smash that button deep in the draft if you can. Drew: Yeah, I am very upset that you got him last night. That was he was a smash pick. Amanda: I know. I've targeted him in every one of my mock drafts and I thought where I was it was a no brainer that I'd be able to snag him. Drew: Yeah. Yeah. That was it would have been a smash pick for me if he got back to me. All right. The last one. Amanda: Mm-hmm. But this next one I was considering. I almost took him, and I think I would have made you like rage really bad if I did. Drew: This this is the th yeah, I got well, the two reasons I got him. One because I didn't get stribling, and I don't Amanda: Mm-hmm. Drew: know that I would have taken both of them. also because I got Lamar Jackson. So we are going to talk about our our fourth sleeper. our last one today is gonna be Jacoby Lane, rookie wide receiver for the Baltimore Ravens. drafted with the third in the third round, eightieth overall pick by the Ravens. look, he's he's a big dude. Six foot four, two hundred and five pounds, but more importantly, he Amanda: Holy shit. Drew: play he plays like it. Lamar Jackson has even come out and said that this dude's catching radius is ridiculous. He just you throw it anywhere near him and he's gonna come down with it. there are certain receivers that are that are just like this. DeAndre Hopkins, big one that comes to mind. He had a great career. Calvin Johnson, obviously, but he was the freak, Megatron. but there's just guys that come down with Golden Tate, right? He's a guy that had a great career by just catching anything you threw his direction. May not have been the fastest, may not have been the best route runner, but the dude just caught everything. So he should be starting opposite Zay Flowers. the j Rashad Bateman is still there, but I believe Jacoby Lane will get the start opposite him. again, great with contested catches, which is a huge red zone threat. Zay Jones or excuse me, Zay Flowers across the field is not a large man and throughout his career has not been a big red zone target for Lamar Jackson. He's not very big. Mark Andrews has been a big red zone target. Well, Mark Andrews is is getting he's in the twilight of his career. He's definitely dwindling down. and Isaiah likely is no longer there, who was a red zone target as well. So you've lost one red zone target. The other receiver's not really a great red zone target. And Mark Andrews is getting a look, he's slowed down. He looks a lot slower. last year he looked a lot slower than year before. So I see an opportunity there, and his draft capital is is non existent. I got him in the 13th round two days ago. So twelve, thirteenth round pick, it's a shot in the dark, especially if you've got Lamar Jackson, you can do the a weird late round stack where you get Lamar and then you take a flyer on Jacoby Lane. And if it doesn't look like he's involved in the offense through the first couple weeks, you can always let him go. But if he works out, i he could end up really making a difference and you could end up having a good stack by the end of the year. The one thing I would look at This is both with Deshaun Stribling and with Jacoby Lane, especially with receivers or with any running backs, like all the sleepers we talked about, right? Look at for receivers, look at or all of them, snapshare. How often are they Amanda: Mm. Drew: on the field? Don't just look at their fantasy score or their box score. Because it's not always just about the numbers in the box score, especially early in a rookie's career. So, like DeJaun Stribling, look, he's not going to be. the top target earner for the 49ers. But if he's on the field 60, 70% of the time because he's out there for blocking, look, that's great for a Amanda: Yes. Drew: rookie. That means that he will earn targets because he's on the field. And as the season progresses, he will be more involved. This is a much different game than the college game they've played. They've got to learn playbooks. They're much more complicated. It takes time to get assimilated into the NFL. And even the great receivers, they don't always start year one Right off the bat, super strong. It typically takes a little bit of time before a couple years ago, before Malik Neighbors and all those guys went through and Justin Jefferson and Jamar Chase. Before that, most rookie receivers didn't really show up in fantasy until the second half of the first year. And that's if Amanda: Mm. Drew: they did at all. So look, these are deeper guys. Take with the late flyer, look at the snap share, and l if that's high enough, keep them around on your roster. If they're down in the 30% snap share. Yeah, maybe partways until later in the season if it starts to go back up. Amanda: Yeah, these guys you're thinking crock pot. They are slow cooking in the crock pot. If that snapshare or if they're on the field, if their percentage is high of them being on the field involved in plays, then yeah, you you're let them let them cook, baby. And that that it'll fall apart beautifully for you. But if they're not there, then that's your decision and it makes it a little bit easier. We'll talk a lot about that in episodes when we talk sit starts too to help you make decisions on who you should be looking at dropping and who you should maybe wait a little bit on as well. Yes. Drew: Sure. Especially on the Patreon, that waiver wires that you're gonna get, that's gonna be the Patreon. Definitely get involved in that and you know, see some of these things ahead of time, hopefully. So speaking of crock pot that you mentioned, Amanda: Absolutely. And yes. Drew: what are we doing for soup Sundays this year? What's that first soup Sunday? Amanda: my gosh, we do have an annual soup Sunday where every Sunday football, you'd think it'd get redundant, but it doesn't. We cook soup on Sundays. Number one, it makes dinner. Women, I know you're out there cooking d planning dinner Drew: Makes it easy. Amanda: is the most nightmarish task you ever do in adulthood. It makes Sunday dinners so freaking easy to plan and it's fun. You can go through and try different things. I don't know. I'll have to ponder what I want our first. Yeah. Drew: And you can eat kinda throughout the day. You know, we typically have the soup done by three or four, so you kinda have a late Amanda: Yeah. Drew: lunch, early dinner. Amanda: It's a it's lovely. Soup Sunday is my favorite. I don't know. I'll have to get back to you on what I think our first we have a favorite soup. It's cheeseburger soup and it's the mecca of all soups. It's so freaking good. You should be cooking it. Okay. Drew: Delicious. Look it up. It's so good. Amanda: Well, we'll get back to you on what our first soup Sunday will be, but we'll talk about that as well. All right, that wraps up our episode for today, though, friends. we will have an episode episode that drops this Friday that will include our season predictions and next week. We will kick off the freaking season. Now it is a holiday week. So the first week of football does kick off right after Labor Day on the 9th. So our first episode, Drew: It's Wednesday. Amanda: yes, I talked about our schedule at the top of the episode. Addendum for that first week. We're gonna do one mega episode that drops on Tuesday, 9 8. So 9 8, we will do a mega, I don't know why that's fun to say, but mega episode on 9 8. And that will be where we do everything. Every single sit start you need for Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday that week, since there's more games, wonky times because it's the first week of NFL kickoff.
