- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo. Episode 186, and I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Lucas, last time we were talking about fruits — ndizi na maembe. I've been practicing. Napenda maembe! Lucas: That's great, Luna. Today, we're going somewhere new. Imagine you're at a hotel in Tanzania or Kenya — you check in, but then you need some help. Luna: Ooh, hotel help. I've definitely been the person who locks myself out of the room. Lucas: Perfect. So let's learn how to say 'Please help me.' In Swahili: Tafadhali nisaidie. Luna: Tafadhali nisaidie. Lucas: Excellent. Tafadhali means please, and nisaidie is help me. Try it again. Luna: Tafadhali nisaidie. Lucas: Good. Now let's say you lost your key. 'I have lost my key' — Nimepoteza ufunguo wangu. Luna: Nimepoteza ufunguo wangu. That's a mouthful. Nimepoteza... ufunguo wangu. Lucas: You've got it. Nimepoteza means I have lost. Ufunguo is key, and wangu is my. So together: Nimepoteza ufunguo wangu. Luna: Nimepoteza ufunguo wangu. So if I say that at the front desk, they'll give me a new key? Lucas: Exactly. Next: 'Where is my room?' — Chumba changu kiko wapi? Luna: Chumba changu kiko wapi? Chumba is room, changu is my, kiko is is, wapi is where. Right? Lucas: Perfect breakdown. Chumba changu kiko wapi? Let's practice all together. I'll say it, then you repeat. Luna: Okay. Lucas: Tafadhali nisaidie. Luna: Tafadhali nisaidie. Lucas: Nimepoteza ufunguo wangu. Luna: Nimepoteza ufunguo wangu. Lucas: Chumba changu kiko wapi? Luna: Chumba changu kiko wapi? Lucas: And one more useful one: 'Please give me towels.' — Tafadhali nipe taulo. Luna: Tafadhali nipe taulo. Nipe is give me, taulo is towels. Lucas: Yes. So if you need towels, you say: Tafadhali nipe taulo. Luna: Tafadhali nipe taulo. Alright, I think I've got these. Can we try a little scene? Lucas: Sure. Imagine you're at the front desk. I'll be the hotel staff. You come up and say... Luna: Tafadhali nisaidie. Nimepoteza ufunguo wangu. Lucas: Ah, pole sana. Chumba chako kiko wapi? Luna: Chumba changu kiko wapi? Hmm, I don't know the room number. But I can say: Tafadhali nipe taulo. Lucas: Of course. Here are towels. Asante sana. And you respond: Asante sana kwa msaada wako. Luna: Asante sana kwa msaada wako. That means 'Thank you very much for your help.' Right? Lucas: Exactly. Let's add that as our last phrase. Asante sana kwa msaada wako. Luna: Asante sana kwa msaada wako. That's a good one to always have ready. Lucas: You know, it's phrases like these that really make a difference when you're traveling. And speaking of making a difference, we wanted to mention something quickly. Luna: Yeah? Lucas: This show is completely ad-free, and we want to keep it that way. If you find these episodes helpful, you can support us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: It really helps us keep going and keep the lessons coming. And we're so grateful for any support. Lucas: Absolutely. Now, back to the hotel. Let's review all five phrases one more time. I'll say each, and you repeat. Luna: Sounds good. Lucas: Tafadhali nisaidie. Luna: Tafadhali nisaidie. Lucas: Nimepoteza ufunguo wangu. Luna: Nimepoteza ufunguo wangu. Lucas: Chumba changu kiko wapi? Luna: Chumba changu kiko wapi? Lucas: Tafadhali nipe taulo. Luna: Tafadhali nipe taulo. Lucas: Asante sana kwa msaada wako. Luna: Asante sana kwa msaada wako. Lucas: Perfect. Now you're ready for the hotel. Practice these, and next time, maybe we'll check out the hotel gym or pool. Luna: Ooh, I'd love that. Until then, asante sana for joining us on Fexingo. Lucas: Kwaheri. See you next time.
