- 0:11High Life friends. It's shown here.
- 0:14It is the 1st of March. A pinch and a punch and all that
- 0:18jazz. Welcome to the next season.
- 0:21In our part of the world, that means springtime is a long way
- 0:25away. We are entering autumn.
- 0:27Ah yeah, the long days will start to become a bit shorter
- 0:32and things will get a little bit cooler.
- 0:34The cycle continues. Isn't it wonderful?
- 0:36And our cycle continues, friends, Here at the end of the
- 0:40week, the beginning of a new month, our cycle brings us back
- 0:43to the Psalms. And today we have got this.
- 0:47This is kind of like a sound that all of us have kind of
- 0:50shared at some point. In the other.
- 0:52It is a Psalm of praise where the psalmist is like, oh, we
- 0:56really missed a trick. You know, we should have been
- 0:59praising you, but we were just bothered and confused and cranky
- 1:04and did the wrong thing. But Gee, we just should have
- 1:07been praising you. Praise you.
- 1:09Now it it's like this praise lament of all the lost
- 1:13opportunities, that they should have lived more closely with
- 1:16God. And if we look back at our
- 1:18lives, I'm sure we think we could have done that
- 1:21differently. Oh, I should have done that
- 1:22differently. That's you.
- 1:24This, Sam, is for you. Gotta love the sounds, right?
- 1:28They always seem to find a way to get a foothold into our
- 1:31experience. Every part of it hires and lows
- 1:34and in betweens and OHS with onlies.
- 1:37So that's where we are today. Let us read this together,
- 1:41friends. Sam 106 Praise the Lord.
- 1:56Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
- 1:59His faithful love endures forever.
- 2:03Who can list the glorious miracles of the Lord?
- 2:07Who can ever praise him enough? There is joy for those who deal
- 2:11justly with others and always do what is right.
- 2:15Remember Me, Lord, when you show favour to your people, come near
- 2:20and rescue me. Let me share in the prosperity
- 2:24of your chosen ones. Let me rejoice in the joy of
- 2:27your people. Let me praise you with those who
- 2:31are your heritage. Like our ancestors, we have
- 2:35sinned. We have done wrong.
- 2:38We have acted wickedly. Our ancestors in Egypt were not
- 2:42impressed by the Lord's miraculous deeds.
- 2:44They soon forgot his many acts of kindness to them.
- 2:48Instead, they rebelled against him at the Red Sea.
- 2:51Even so, he saved them. To defend the honour of his name
- 2:56and to demonstrate his mighty power, he commanded the Red Sea
- 3:01to dry up. He led Israel across the sea as
- 3:05if it were a desert. So he rescued them from their
- 3:08enemies and redeemed them from their foes.
- 3:12Then the water returned and covered their enemies.
- 3:15Not one of them survived then. His people believed his
- 3:19promises. Then they sang his praise.
- 3:23Yet how quickly they forgot what he had done.
- 3:26They wouldn't wait for his counsel in the wilderness.
- 3:30Their desires ran wild, testing God's patience in that dry
- 3:34wasteland. So he gave them what they asked
- 3:37for, and he sent a plague along with it.
- 3:40The people in the camp were jealous of Moses and envious of
- 3:44Aaron, the Lord's holy priest. Because of this, the earth
- 3:49opened up. It swallowed Dathan and buried
- 3:53Abram and the other rebels. Fire fell upon their followers.
- 3:57Aflame consumed the wicked. The people made a calf at Mount
- 4:02Sinai. They bowed before an image made
- 4:04of gold. They traded their glorious God
- 4:08for a statue of a grass eating bull.
- 4:12They forgot God, their Saviour, who had done such great things
- 4:16in Egypt, such wonderful things in the land of Ham, such awesome
- 4:20deeds at the Red Sea. So he declared he would destroy
- 4:24them. But Moses, his chosen 1, stepped
- 4:28between the Lord and the people. He begged him to turn from his
- 4:31anger and not destroy them. The people refused to enter the
- 4:36pleasant land, for they wouldn't believe his promise to care for
- 4:40them. Instead, they grumbled in their
- 4:43tents and refused to obey the Lord.
- 4:46Therefore he solemnly swore that he would kill them in the
- 4:49wilderness, that he would scatter their descendants among
- 4:52the nations, exiling them to distant lands.
- 4:57Then our ancestors joined in the worship of Baal at Peel.
- 5:03They even ate sacrifices offered to the dead.
- 5:06They angered the Lord with all these things, so a plague broke
- 5:10out among them. But Phineas had the courage to
- 5:13intervene, and the plague was stopped, so he has been regarded
- 5:18as a righteous man ever since that time at Marabar. 2 They
- 5:23angered the Lord, causing Moses serious trouble.
- 5:27They made Moses angry, and he spoke foolishly.
- 5:31Israel failed to destroy the nations in the land as the Lord
- 5:35had commanded them. Instead, they mingled among the
- 5:38pagans and adopted their evil customs.
- 5:42They worship their idols which led to their downfall.
- 5:46They even sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the
- 5:49demons. They shed innocent blood, the
- 5:52blood of their sons and daughters.
- 5:54By sacrificing them to the idols of Canaan.
- 5:57They polluted the land with murder.
- 6:00They defile themselves by their evil deeds, and their love of
- 6:04idols. Was adultery in the Lord's
- 6:06sight. That is why the Lord's anger
- 6:09burned against his people and he aborted his own special
- 6:14possession. He handed them over to Pagan
- 6:17nations, and they were ruled by those who hated them.
- 6:22Their enemies crushed them and brought them under their cruel
- 6:25power. Again and again he rescued them,
- 6:30but they chose to rebel against him, and they were finally
- 6:34destroyed by their sin. Even so, he pitied them in their
- 6:38distress and listened to their cries.
- 6:40He remembered his covenant with them and relented because of his
- 6:45unfailing love. He even caused their captors to
- 6:49treat them with kindness. Save us, our Lord our God.
- 6:54Gather us back from among the nations so we can thank Your
- 6:58holy Name and rejoice and praise You.
- 7:04Praise the Lord, the God of Israel, who lives from
- 7:08everlasting to everlasting. Let all the people say Amen.
- 7:14Praise the Lord. Gee, it's easy to read this,
- 7:30Simon. To sit in quiet judgement of the
- 7:34people doing the wrong thing again and again and again.
- 7:39But if we look at our lives there, we are making bad
- 7:42choices, choosing our own wisdom over yours, choosing our own
- 7:48priorities over yours. Listening to the 100 voices
- 7:51around us rather than to yours. And so we acknowledge that we
- 7:57are just pitiful, sinful people, and we are in need of your
- 8:02saving. And here in our lives, where we
- 8:07fail again and again, as the psalmist exclaims, you continue
- 8:16toward us with your unfailing love.
- 8:21You just never fail to love us, no matter what we bring to the
- 8:26table. Oh yes, so grateful for your
- 8:31graciousness, your mercy and your love never failing.
- 8:39We just praise you. We praise you.
- 8:42We love you, and we are so appreciative of that grace, and
- 8:47it's in the gracious name of Jesus that we pray these things.
- 8:52Ah man, praise the Lord.
