- 0:00Okay, turn with me in your scriptures to Revelation
- 0:06chapter 3. Revelation chapter 3. Hallelujah.
- 0:12Father, I thank you for your word today. I thank
- 0:17you, Jesus, for just dropping some very real
- 0:22things in my heart, not just for this morning,
- 0:26but for how we live. And I ask, Father, that...
- 0:31you would help me to communicate the things that
- 0:34you've put inside of me for this morning. Thank
- 0:38you for the anointing that is already on your
- 0:40word. And we ask that it would go into our hearts
- 0:44today. In Jesus' name. Amen. Revelation chapter
- 0:523. Just one verse to springboard off of. Verse
- 0:5711. Let's read it together. Behold, I am coming
- 1:02quickly. Hold fast. what you have that no one
- 1:08may take your crown. That's the New King James
- 1:12Version. Let's say that together. If you have
- 1:15the New King James Version, say it with me. Behold,
- 1:18I am coming quickly. Hold fast what you have
- 1:23that no one may take your crown. Amen. That's
- 1:31our text for this morning. churches that Jesus
- 1:37sent letters to in Revelation 2 and 3 by the
- 1:42hand of John in this beginning of the revelation
- 1:45of Jesus Christ. Five of those churches were
- 1:53rebuked by Jesus for things that they were either
- 1:57doing or things that they were not doing. And
- 2:01he called five of those churches of the seven
- 2:04to repentance. Two of those churches, he did
- 2:10not have anything negative to say about. This
- 2:14was one of those churches. This is the faithful
- 2:17church, the church of Philadelphia. And so the
- 2:22church of Philadelphia, he says to them what
- 2:28we just read, hold fast. I'm coming quickly.
- 2:32Don't let anybody take your crown. And then the
- 2:37other church that he did not rebuke was the suffering
- 2:41church, the church of Smyrna. And that is Revelation
- 2:45chapter 2. I want to read one verse out of the
- 2:50letter that Jesus sent to Smyrna. Verse 10, 2
- 2:54-10. Do not fear any of those things which you
- 2:58are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about
- 3:02to throw some of you into prison that you may
- 3:06be tested and you will have tribulation for 10
- 3:10days. Now listen to this. Be faithful unto death
- 3:14and I will give you the crown of life. To both
- 3:20of these churches, Jesus referred to the crown.
- 3:25Here we have it again in the church of Smyrna.
- 3:28The crown. Be faithful to the end. And I will
- 3:32give you a crown. The crown of life. Now, oftentimes
- 3:39when Pastor Cammie and I or others preach or
- 3:43teach here on Sunday mornings, we are zeroing
- 3:46in on something, some part of the Christian discipline,
- 3:50the Christian walk. Sometimes we are getting
- 3:53the microscope out and getting right down to
- 3:57something nitty gritty that will hopefully change
- 4:00your life and help you in your relationship with
- 4:03Christ. this morning, we're not going to get
- 4:06the microscope out. We're getting the telescope
- 4:08out, and we're getting a broad view of what this
- 4:14thing is all about. What this thing is all about
- 4:18called life, right? And so, we're talking this
- 4:26morning about the crown. The crown. Now, this
- 4:34is a simple costume crown. I thought it was going
- 4:37to be a lot more regal than this. And it wasn't
- 4:41exactly what I ordered. I was like, man, it's
- 4:44not like the picture. But I wanted to be able
- 4:49to hold a crown in my hand that you could see
- 4:52so that you would understand that this whole
- 4:57thing called life is about chasing a crown. Amen?
- 5:06It is about chasing a crown. The crown represents
- 5:11the reward that you will receive when you stand
- 5:16before Jesus. Now look at the person next to
- 5:22you. Look at the person across the room. Look
- 5:28at yourself. Every single person in this room
- 5:35is going to stand before Jesus. We're all. Whatever
- 5:43our story is, we're all going to pass away should
- 5:47Jesus tarry. One of two things is going to happen.
- 5:51The trumpet is going to sound and Jesus is going
- 5:54to return, which I'm believing for more and more
- 5:58and more. Amen? I am coming quickly, he told
- 6:01the church of Philadelphia, or you're going to
- 6:05pass away. Every single person in this room is
- 6:11going to stand before Jesus. That's what this
- 6:18whole thing is all about. That's the role. It's
- 6:22the main role of the pastor to prepare the sheep
- 6:26for the day when they stand before Jesus. That
- 6:32you and I will not be ashamed. You and I will
- 6:40not be ashamed before the Lord. Paul understood
- 6:43this. It's why at the end of his life he wrote
- 6:46to Timothy, I have fought the good fight. I have
- 6:50finished the race. I have kept the faith. Finally,
- 6:54there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness,
- 6:59which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give
- 7:03to me on that day. And not to me only, but to
- 7:07all who have loved and longed for his appearing.
- 7:13Paul knew that this was what it was all about.
- 7:17It drove him. He laid his life down continuously
- 7:21because he knew that there was a day that he
- 7:25would stand before Jesus. How did he go through
- 7:28all that suffering? Five times, 40 lashes. He
- 7:32was stoned. He was a night and a day and a shipwreck.
- 7:36All these things that happened to Paul, how could
- 7:39he endure? Because he had his eyes. fastened
- 7:43upon a day that he would stand before Jesus and
- 7:48receive a crown. Hallelujah. Peter was instructing
- 8:03some elders on how to lead the church. Listen
- 8:07to what he says, 1 Peter 5 .3. Don't be lords
- 8:11over those entrusted to you, but be examples
- 8:14to the flock. And when the chief shepherd appears,
- 8:18you will receive the crown of glory that does
- 8:24not fade away. Hallelujah. This crown, friends,
- 8:31this crown is a costume. But the crown that you're
- 8:38going to receive is very, very real. You're going
- 8:44to stand before Jesus and he's going to give
- 8:47you a crown. This crown is worth more than anything
- 8:55in this life. Everything that you've been rewarded
- 8:59with is nothing compared to the crown that you're
- 9:04going to receive when you stand before Jesus.
- 9:07Paul gave everything and taught us to give up
- 9:12everything for this crown. 1 Corinthians 9 .24.
- 9:17I just experienced this. Do you not know that
- 9:20those who run in a race all run, but one receives
- 9:24the prize? I meant to bring the prize. I won.
- 9:28Running a race at the end of August. And you
- 9:32know, the thing about that prize is it really,
- 9:35I finished, but it doesn't really mean very much.
- 9:39Lila was there cheering for me, all right? Some
- 9:42of you were there. Your sons were there. And
- 9:51you saw me finish. The prize, though, didn't
- 9:55really mean anything because they had 110 runners.
- 9:59And guess how many prizes they had? 110. And
- 10:04every single person got a prize. Oh, this generation.
- 10:08I just don't get it. Oh, where if I don't get
- 10:16a prize, oh, okay, I'm going to keep preaching
- 10:20here. You know, in these times, Paul's referring
- 10:24to the Olympic Games. What our Olympics are based
- 10:27on now, one would get the prize. And oftentimes
- 10:32that would be a golden wreath that they would
- 10:35lay on the head of the one that ran. And Paul
- 10:40is saying, That if you're going to run the race,
- 10:45run in such a way as to get the prize. Go all
- 10:51in. Right? Verse 25. Everyone who competes for
- 10:57the prize is temperate in all things. I'm getting
- 11:02back into this running world. People in the running
- 11:06world are crazy. They change how they eat. They
- 11:11change what they wear on their feet. They spend
- 11:15lots and lots of money. They are temperate in
- 11:19all things because they want to get faster. And
- 11:24you know what? I'm kind of like getting into
- 11:26that. I want to get faster. And Pastor Ben is
- 11:33trying to get back into that. You need to pray
- 11:35for this brother. He ran a 5k the other day.
- 11:39Good job. They do it for a perishable crown.
- 11:45All this is a perishable crown. We, for an imperishable
- 11:53crown that can never be taken away. Therefore,
- 12:00I run thus, not with uncertainty. Thus, I fight,
- 12:04not as one who beats the air, but I discipline
- 12:08my body. I bring it into subjection, lest when
- 12:11I have preached to others, I myself should become
- 12:16disqualified. Where will we get this crown? 2
- 12:24Corinthians 5, 9 and 10. Therefore we make it
- 12:27our aim, whether present or absent, to be well
- 12:30-pleasing to Jesus. Everybody say that with me.
- 12:34Well -pleasing to Jesus. For we must all appear
- 12:40before the judgment seat of Christ. that each
- 12:46one may receive the things done in the body according
- 12:50to what he has done, whether good or bad. Some
- 12:57people have said, it doesn't matter what I do
- 13:00because I cannot earn my salvation. And that,
- 13:04friends, is true. Hallelujah. The salvation of
- 13:08Jesus is a free gift from God. We just exercise
- 13:12faith in the atoning work of the cross and he
- 13:15bestows upon us salvation. Hallelujah. It is
- 13:20free and full. And I thank God for that. But
- 13:25what you do matters. What you do for the king
- 13:31will be rewarded. Jesus said, every cup of cold
- 13:36water given in my name will be rewarded to you
- 13:40tenfold there. Hallelujah. I say praise God for
- 13:45that. And so this judgment. There are actually
- 13:49two judgments in the end times that the Scriptures
- 13:53teach about. This is the Bema Seat judgment.
- 13:57This is the judgment for believers. This is not
- 14:01a heaven and hell judgment. If you're standing
- 14:04before Jesus at this judgment, you've made it
- 14:07to heaven. Congratulations. Praise God. But it
- 14:11is at this judgment that the rewards for what
- 14:15you have... done in this life for Christ will
- 14:20be rewarded. Hallelujah. I want to stand before
- 14:24Jesus at this judgment seat, and I want to receive
- 14:28a crown that he has for me. Somebody say, praise
- 14:34the Lord. Are you running for that? Are you wanting
- 14:38the crown that he has for you? Praise the Lord.
- 14:43Praise the Lord. This beam of seat judgment.
- 14:48Did you know it's possible to get to heaven and
- 14:54have no reward? Did you know it's possible to
- 15:01just squeak into heaven and not be given a crown?
- 15:07Listen to this verse. 1 Corinthians 3, verse
- 15:1812. Now, if anyone builds on this foundation
- 15:22with gold, silver, precious stones, what is that?
- 15:28Remind you of. Gold. Silver. Precious stones.
- 15:34Or. Wood. Hay. And straw. Each one's work. Will
- 15:41become clear. For the day will declare it. Because
- 15:46it will be revealed by fire. The fire will test.
- 15:51Each one's work. Of what sort it is. If anyone's
- 15:57work. which he has built on endures, he will
- 16:02receive a reward. Hallelujah. If anyone's work
- 16:08is burned, he will suffer loss. He himself will
- 16:13be saved, yet so as through fire. There will
- 16:20be people that will stand before Jesus at the
- 16:24Bema seat judgment and the fire will test their
- 16:30work and they will have nothing to show for it.
- 16:35Wow. Friend, it's Pastor Cammie and I's desire.
- 16:41That for faith church, that for every person
- 16:45that stands before the judgment seat of Christ,
- 16:48hallelujah, that when the fire tests the quality
- 16:51of your work, that it would not burn up into
- 16:54ashes and be nothing. And Jesus say, well, you
- 16:57know, you can come in to heaven. You just made
- 17:00it through as a fire. We do not want that for
- 17:03you. We want for you to stand before Jesus and
- 17:08after that fire, test the quality of your work.
- 17:12Oh, it's the quality of gold and silver and precious
- 17:16stones and it lasts and it endures. Hallelujah.
- 17:22Oh, glory to God. And you should be glad that
- 17:25you have pastors that pray for you like that.
- 17:28You should be glad that you have people in your
- 17:31life that spur you on to that. Because we want
- 17:35the quality of your work to endure. Hallelujah.
- 17:40A crown? Don't let anybody take your crown. Don't
- 17:52let anything take your crown. We have enemies
- 17:58that are trying to steal your crown. Colossians
- 18:072 .18 says, let no one cheat you of your reward.
- 18:18King James Version says, let no one beguile you
- 18:22or deceive you. The NIV says, let no one disqualify
- 18:29you. Let no one cheat you of your reward. They
- 18:37take delight in false humility and worship of
- 18:40angels, intruding into those things which he
- 18:44has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly
- 18:47mind, not holding fast to the head. from whom
- 18:51all the body nourished and knit together by joints
- 18:55and ligaments grows with the increase that is
- 18:58from God. Don't let anyone cheat you of your
- 19:02reward. Don't let anybody take your crown. There's
- 19:09four qualities in this verse. I'm not going to
- 19:13preach on this verse, but let me touch on them
- 19:15very quickly. One, they have false humility.
- 19:19Oftentimes they will downgrade themselves with
- 19:22their words. their words are actually upgrading
- 19:25themselves in their heart. It is a false humility.
- 19:29In fact, they want you to recognize their humility
- 19:32so that they feel good about you recognizing
- 19:35their humility. Secondly, they're always looking
- 19:41for something new and spectacular. Did you hear
- 19:45about the glory cloud in this church? And they'll
- 19:52chase after it. Did you hear about this over
- 19:55here? And they'll chase after that. Oh, angels
- 19:59appeared. And they worship the angels. They're
- 20:02worshiping the stuff. And how many of you are
- 20:07grateful for the stuff? You're grateful for the
- 20:11manifestation of the presence of God. We are
- 20:14believing God for the stuff. This morning, we're
- 20:17believing God for people to be healed around
- 20:19these altars, amen? We're believing God to manifest
- 20:23his kingdom and his glory and his power, but
- 20:26we are not worshiping the stuff. We worship him.
- 20:32We worship Jesus. Hallelujah. In the seasons
- 20:37where it seems like none of the stuff is happening,
- 20:40guess what? Our eyes are still on Him. We are
- 20:43still worshiping Him. We're not chasing all the
- 20:47stuff. People that are trying to pull you down
- 20:50are chasing the stuff. Their eyes are not fastened
- 20:56on the head. They are their own head. Their lives
- 21:05are not committed to following Christ wherever
- 21:09He should lead. And they are not connected to
- 21:18the church. This is a key one. The ligaments,
- 21:22the supporting sinews. Do you know what that
- 21:25is? It's not the head. It's the church. It's
- 21:29the body. And so people that are trying to pull
- 21:33you away are not connected to the body of Christ.
- 21:39We got to be people that are connected to the
- 21:41body of Christ. It matters who you yoke up with.
- 21:46I applaud the men and the women in the body of
- 21:52Christ. Their spouses are not serving Jesus,
- 21:55but they refuse to let anybody take their crown.
- 21:59And even if they have to run alone, they're going
- 22:02to run alone. Amen? Because Jesus is everything.
- 22:08Hallelujah. It matters who you yoke up with.
- 22:12Don't let friends steal your crown. If you consult
- 22:18your friends on how radical, how much of a fanatic
- 22:22you should get for Jesus, they will often pull
- 22:26you down. Oh, you don't want to get too fanatical
- 22:30with that stuff. People will call you strange.
- 22:37You know what a fanatic for Jesus is? Somebody
- 22:42that loves Jesus more than you do. That's what
- 22:48a fanatic is. Don't let anybody steal your crown.
- 22:54Don't let your spouse. Don't let your child.
- 22:58Don't let your brother, your sister. Don't let
- 23:02other nominal Christians. Don't let them steal
- 23:08your reward. I'm running after Jesus. I'm going
- 23:13after him. My life is all about him. Don't be
- 23:19like Esau. In Genesis 25, 33, he let circumstances
- 23:24steal his crown. He was famished. I'm going to
- 23:28die. I'm going to die. And for a bowl of beans,
- 23:32he sold his birthright. And you're going to stand
- 23:37before Jesus at the Bema seat judgment, and you're
- 23:42going to realize, I let beans steal. my crown.
- 23:50I'm not doing it. I am not doing it. I'm going
- 23:54all in. Eve, listen to what Eve said. And the
- 24:02Lord God said to Eve, what is this you have done?
- 24:05And the woman said, the serpent deceived me,
- 24:08and I ate. Second Corinthians 11 says, I fear,
- 24:19Paul wrote, lest some of you Corinthians Just
- 24:23as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness,
- 24:27so your minds might be corrupted from the simplicity
- 24:31of following Jesus. It happened to Eve. It happened
- 24:37to some of them in Corinth. And Paul was trying
- 24:40to get them to see, I'm not letting anybody steal
- 24:45my crown. No demon in hell. No friend, no family
- 24:51member, none of them. I have decided to follow
- 24:55Jesus. It's as simple as that. Amen? I am not
- 25:01letting anybody steal my crown. Matthew 24. Because
- 25:10some of us can say, well, I'm above my crown
- 25:15being stolen. Jesus said, 24, 24 in Matthew.
- 25:21For false Christs and false prophets will rise
- 25:24and show you great signs and wonders to deceive,
- 25:27if possible, even the elect. Even the elect can
- 25:34be deceived. Let me read quickly to you some
- 25:37other scriptures before I wrap this up. Ephesians
- 25:415, 6, let no one deceive you with empty words.
- 25:46For because of these things, the wrath of God
- 25:49comes on the sons of disobedience. Colossians
- 25:522 .4. Now this I say, lest anyone should deceive
- 25:56you with persuasive words. A few verses later,
- 26:01Colossians 2 .8. Beware lest anyone cheat you
- 26:05through philosophy and empty deceit according
- 26:08to the tradition of men. according to the basic
- 26:13principles of the world and not according to
- 26:16Christ. John, the apostle John, who wrote Revelation
- 26:203 .11, he said this in 1 John 2 .26, These things
- 26:25I have written to you concerning those who try
- 26:28to deceive you. And then in 2 John 1 .7, For
- 26:34many deceivers have gone out into the world who
- 26:37do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the
- 26:41flesh. And he said that they had the antichrist
- 26:44spirit. trying to deceive the believers and cheat
- 26:49them out of their reward. There was one in Paul's
- 26:53inner circle. 2 Timothy 4 .10 says, Demas has
- 27:03forsaken me, having loved this present world
- 27:07and has departed from me to go to Thessalonica.
- 27:15Demas was cheated of his crown. Because he loved
- 27:23this present world. This whole thing is about
- 27:34a crown. The crown is not worth a moment of pleasure.
- 27:44The crown, it is not worth laying it down for
- 27:49an addiction. Those of you struggling, keep getting
- 27:55back up. The righteous fall, but they get back
- 28:01up again. Why? Because they're running after
- 28:05a crown. I'm not letting anything steal my crown.
- 28:12You have friendship with the world that you need
- 28:14to break. You have things that Jesus would not
- 28:17participate in. I heard one defined sin as this.
- 28:24Anything Jesus would not do. That's simple, isn't
- 28:29it? Would Jesus do this? Then I shouldn't do
- 28:36this because I'm chasing a crown. I want to close
- 28:43this morning with Revelation chapter 4. We started
- 28:48in Revelation chapter 3. And I want to close
- 28:52with Revelation chapter 4. This is an incredible
- 28:56chapter of the worship that happens in heaven.
- 29:02Pick it up in verse 8. The whole chapter is good.
- 29:06The four living creatures, each having six wings,
- 29:09were full of eyes around and within, and they
- 29:11do not rest day or night saying, Holy, holy,
- 29:15holy, Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is
- 29:21to come. And whenever the living creatures give
- 29:25glory and honor and thanks to him who sits on
- 29:28the throne, who lives forever and ever. The 24
- 29:31elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne
- 29:36and worship Him who lives forever and ever and
- 29:41cast their crowns before the throne saying, You
- 29:49are worthy, O Lord. to receive glory and honor
- 29:54and power, for you created all things, and by
- 29:58your will they exist and were created. You see,
- 30:04the crown is not just the reward that you will
- 30:10get in heaven that you can display for your own
- 30:15glory for the rest of your life. The crown that
- 30:22Jesus gave gives to you, becomes what you worship
- 30:28Jesus with for the rest of eternity. Jesus, you've
- 30:35given me a crown. These 24 elders, many people
- 30:40think that they represent the 12 tribes of Israel
- 30:44in the old covenant, and that they represent
- 30:48the 12 disciples in the new covenant. I have
- 30:52no proof or definitive scripture that says that.
- 30:57But many people just believe they represent the
- 31:01saints of old and the saints of new together
- 31:04around the throne that have received a crown
- 31:07as a reward before the Lord. And the worship
- 31:12begins to happen. And the angels cry, holy, holy,
- 31:21holy. And the 24 elders that have received their
- 31:26crown. Take it off. And they say, God, there's
- 31:33nobody. There's nobody that's worthy of this
- 31:37crown. Every action that I did, that you rewarded
- 31:43for me, that's represented here, I could only
- 31:46do because of your grace and because of your
- 31:48mercy. Every action that I served others with
- 31:52is only because of your grace and your mercy.
- 31:55It's not because of my own goodness. And so,
- 31:58Lord, I take this crown that you've rewarded
- 32:00me with and I cast it down at your feet and I
- 32:08worship you. I worship you with this crown. Hallelujah.
- 32:13This crown, friends, that Jesus is going to give
- 32:20to you becomes your greatest piece of worship.
- 32:29before the Lord for all eternity. Let no one
- 32:44take your crown. I'm going to ask if Pastor Ben
- 32:51would come and the team would come. The first
- 33:02step in getting a crown is giving our lives to
- 33:12Jesus. When we yield our life to Christ, that's
- 33:20the beginning, friends. That's the beginning.
- 33:26Hallelujah. The crown. If you've never given
- 33:35your life to Christ, If you've never fully surrendered
- 33:38to him, I want to tell you that today that it
- 33:44is more than about just being in church on Sunday
- 33:48and coming to an altar. No, it is about chasing
- 33:52the reward that Jesus has for your life. We're
- 33:59coming after him today. We're going to give him
- 34:04everything. If you've never given your life to
- 34:08Christ, start there. He shed his blood for you.
- 34:12to make a way for you to know him. And then some
- 34:19of us here today, we have allowed things to cheat
- 34:28us. We've got things going on in our lives that's
- 34:37stealing from the reward that Jesus wants to
- 34:41give to you. You need to deal with that today.
- 34:45You're doing things that Jesus wouldn't do. You're
- 34:49looking at things Jesus wouldn't look at. You're
- 34:52listening to things Jesus wouldn't listen to.
- 34:56You are giving yourself to things that Jesus
- 34:59wouldn't give himself to. And this morning, what
- 35:04you need to do is you need to say, Jesus, I am
- 35:06coming after the crown that you have for me.
- 35:09I am going to lay those things down in Jesus'
- 35:14name. That's what we're going to do this morning.
- 35:21Big picture. Big picture. This is what it's all
- 35:26about. This is why all the little things matter.
- 35:32This is why the details matter. Because Jesus
- 35:39has a crown for us. This morning, we're going
- 35:47to tell the Lord, Jesus, I'm coming after everything
- 35:53that you have for me. Hallelujah. As Pastor Ben
- 36:03begins to sing this song, we fall down. We lay
- 36:10our crowns. I want you to just, if you need to
- 36:14get right with God, If you need to just declare,
- 36:18God, my life is about pursuing the crown, then
- 36:25I want you to find a place around this altar
- 36:27just for a few moments and just you and Jesus
- 36:32for a moment and then we as a church, we as a
- 36:35church, this is what we're running after. We
- 36:38are running after the crown. Jesus, Revelation
- 36:423 .11 is written to the entire church. Wouldn't
- 36:46it be awesome if he wrote us a letter and said,
- 36:48I've got a crown for you, Faith Church. Don't
- 36:52let anybody take it. I'm coming after you. I've
- 36:57got a reward for you. And we say, Lord Jesus,
- 37:01we want that crown. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Thank
- 37:07you, Father.
