- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: Hey everybody, Brian Smith here with the item team series and your daily influence and I'm so excited today because today is episode 600.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: of the daily influence in 600 episodes that's 600 opportunities to explore what it means to live and lead with intentional, responsible influence.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: And today I want to pause and reflect on a question that connects all of us.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: Who has influenced your biggest life decisions?
- 1:13[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, that is actually something that's unique to each of us because big is relative to
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: individuals.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: It did what might be small to others might be big to another.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, when I look back and I realize that every choice, personal, professional, wasn't made alone.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_00]: The people who surrounded me, challenged me,
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: supported me and sometimes even opposed me have all left their fingerprints on my journey.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: They influence me.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: An influence doesn't always look like mentorship or advice.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes it's just a moment a smile or a brief passing, a conversation, or even a hardship that shifts our path somewhere else.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: Not always for improvement.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_00]: not always for something bad.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's just a shift.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_00]: So as we celebrate this milestone, I invite you to reflect with me on three ideas about influence and the decisions that shape our lives.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: Now last year almost a year or actually just over a year ago I was in South Africa and I did my TEDx talk on the ripple effect.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_00]: Well, the butterfly effect, if you will, and, you know, that's the first thing that I want to really talk about here is the ripple effect of influence.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: Every decision we make is touched by others.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: Those who came before us, those beside us, and sometimes those we've never even met.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: Think about the people who've helped shape your values, the teachers, your parents, leaders, a boss when you are in high school, a coach.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_00]: or even critics who left lasting negative marks on you, how choices carry forward their influence?
- 2:59[SPEAKER_00]: We become part of that ripple, and take a moment and ask yourself, whose voice echoes in your biggest decisions?
- 3:08[SPEAKER_00]: influence is not always intentional, but it's impact always matters.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's what we forget about the most in our lives as we go along.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: But we're not here alone.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_00]: Where we're at right now isn't just because of us.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_00]: It is because of everyone.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_00]: I am we.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_00]: That's one of my biggest sayings.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: I am we because the we is everyone who has brought me to this very moment right now in time after 600 episodes of exploring influence and it is not just my 600 episodes.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_00]: Greg has done an amazing job bringing her own influence into daily influence and providing you with guests, with stories and influence that take us all over the globe of influence.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: Not the globe of the world, but so many different situations, so many different stories that it has really allowed me,
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: that awareness is everything.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_00]: Let me slow down and reflect on who influences us and why we can clarity and control over our own direction.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: We can see patterns that might be emerging that we might have had for a long time and we tend to trust those who show empathy and consistency and authenticity so when we can identify those things in ourselves or the lack of them.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: It can really give us a lot of power over where we might want to go next in our areas of influence.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: Because the more intentional we become about recognizing the influence that is in our lives, the more aligned our decisions become with our own core values.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_00]: So I encourage you to pause today and think,
- 5:06[SPEAKER_00]: awareness of influence gives us control over our own.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: So slow down and try to become more aware of what you do each and every day.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: The last point that I'd like to make is probably one of the most important, and it goes kind of along with something that we really like to strive for here, which is just being kind.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: And in this context today about our influence, being kind, not just to ourselves, but to others, is paying it forward.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_00]: be a responsible and positive influencer in your area of influence, milestones invite gratitude, but they also invite responsibility.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: Just as others have influenced your life's biggest decisions, you are influencing someone else's.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_00]: Right now, all the time, every day, your words, your example, your leadership, they all matter.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't matter what you do,
- 6:10[SPEAKER_00]: And they all matter more than you might realize.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_00]: The question is, is, what kind of influence do you want to leave behind?
- 6:19[SPEAKER_00]: For me, this journey, and all 600 episodes have been about encouraging each of us to be intentional with our influence, to use it to lift others, and to leave the world a little bit better than we found it.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: Influence multiplies positive and responsible influence multiplies when we use it correctly when we use it in the best way possible within each of our areas of influence.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_00]: So look as we close here in episode 600 which might be brief but I hope as
- 6:55[SPEAKER_00]: explained where our body of work has come from and where we hope that it continues to go in the future.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: I want to thank you all of you.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: who have joined us on this journey through these 600 episodes.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: These few years now of bringing you daily positive and responsible influence and thank you for walking and being part of this journey with us.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_00]: Your support, your feedback, and your willingness to just reflect on influence alongside us has made the daily influence what it is today.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: Take a moment today to thank someone who's
- 7:32[SPEAKER_00]: And then pay it forward.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_00]: Remember, every choice, every action, every word, remember, every choice, every action, every word you share can become the moment that influences someone else's biggest decision.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_00]: So until next time, stay intentional, stay kind and keep building your positive and responsible influence.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_00]: I hope you have a great day.
