- 0:00Speaker 1: Clemson and Virginia Tech, the Hokies and Tigers in the ACC,
- 0:06Speaker 1: a big game for both teams. Clemson's certainly not dead
- 0:09Speaker 1: in this conference with just the one conference loss to Miami.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Virginia Tech with a couple of losses but needing to
- 0:16Speaker 1: rebound a tad.
- 0:18Speaker 2: What are you thinking here, Cole.
- 0:20Speaker 1: From the ACC perspective of Clemson-Virginia Tech? Again, presented by PrizePix.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Let's talk about it.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Well, Virginia Tech got right last week when they played
- 0:31Speaker 3: against Georgia Tech in the 34-24 win. You got to
- 0:34Speaker 3: see more of the Ethan Grunkemeier that we had witnessed
- 0:36Speaker 3: when he played against Pitt and when he played early
- 0:38Speaker 3: on in the season that gave you life. And I
- 0:41Speaker 3: do think that's beneficial because you also played that game
- 0:44Speaker 3: at Lane Stadium, which gives you a little bit of
- 0:47Speaker 3: momentum back on your side. How do you handle Death
- 0:49Speaker 3: Valley at a, what is it, 2.30 kick, 6 o'clock kick?
- 0:53Speaker 3: So dust type of kick. It's still a good Clemson defense.
- 0:57Speaker 3: It still is a defense that can get after you.
- 0:58Speaker 2: And I think it's 7 Eastern. 7 Eastern.
- 1:01Speaker 4: 6 Central.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Yeah, 6 Central.
- 1:04Speaker 3: It still is a good Clemson defense. It still is
- 1:06Speaker 3: a Clemson defense that can be proactive getting after you.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Can you do what you've done throughout most of your
- 1:11Speaker 3: ACC competition this year if you're Gronkemeyer, finding open receivers
- 1:15Speaker 3: and winning with the explosives downfield to be able to
- 1:18Speaker 3: create opportunities that give you the advantages with the deep shots,
- 1:22Speaker 3: with the passing across the intermediate, winning on second and
- 1:24Speaker 3: third down. And then for Clemson, you know, Clemson right
- 1:28Speaker 3: now is alive because they beat North Carolina and they
- 1:33Speaker 3: beat Cal State. And they beat Charleston Southern. But you
- 1:37Speaker 3: don't learn anything in the Charleston Southern game. Now, Tate
- 1:39Speaker 3: Reynolds still has his faults. Again, 127 passing yards in
- 1:43Speaker 3: that game. They also went to... Perman got... What was it?
- 1:48Speaker 3: He got in the game. Brock Bradley, I think, got
- 1:50Speaker 3: in the game. They ran it for 251, though. And
- 1:53Speaker 3: they were very balanced with the rushing attack with Wilson, Johnson, Reynolds, Davison...
- 1:59Speaker 3: Can that be an advantage to you of where you
- 2:00Speaker 3: take the ball and be out of Reynolds' hands, give
- 2:02Speaker 3: the ball to your defense to keep this as low-scoring
- 2:04Speaker 3: as possible, going up against a Brent Bride defense, and
- 2:07Speaker 3: try to hope that you win 17-7 or 14-13 or
- 2:12Speaker 3: something along those lines? Can your defense do enough to
- 2:15Speaker 3: not force Tate Reynolds to have the play in a
- 2:17Speaker 3: world where he is going to have to step on
- 2:19Speaker 3: up and deliver strike after strike?
- 2:23Speaker 2: I wonder about the matchup here.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Of Tate Reynolds against this Virginia tech defense, because I'm
- 2:31Speaker 1: not completely sold on the tech defense. Like I, and
- 2:36Speaker 1: I think Tate has continued to improve. I don't know
- 2:39Speaker 1: if dabble got that quarterback battle wrong in the off season,
- 2:43Speaker 1: or if taste just a little bit more of a gamer,
- 2:45Speaker 1: but I, I do think that he's a pretty good
- 2:48Speaker 1: quarterback that, I mean, he's a developing quarterback that looks
- 2:51Speaker 1: better each week.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Who do you like better Tate Reynolds or George McIntyre?
- 2:55Speaker 3: Oh, McIntyre far and away.
- 2:58Speaker 4: Not close?
- 2:58Speaker 3: McIntyre.
- 2:59Speaker 4: Yeah. I don't even have to think about that.
- 3:01Speaker 2: I thought Tate played pretty well against Miami, all things considered.
- 3:05Speaker 4: True. Tate reminds me of Billy Edwards from, like, two
- 3:09Speaker 4: years ago.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:12Speaker 2: I don't want to go that far.
- 3:12Speaker 3: I don't know if he reminds me of him.
- 3:15Speaker 4: It's very disrespectful, I know.
- 3:17Speaker 2: It is pretty disrespectful.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Like, he threw for nearly 300 yards, but he also
- 3:20Speaker 3: had an interception in that game. So it's like, yeah, there's...
- 3:24Speaker 3: let's say this. He's a true freshman. If he was
- 3:27Speaker 3: making these mistakes as a sophomore, you'd feel a.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Lot different about it.
- 3:29Speaker 4: Yes. You can forgive a freshman. Yes.
- 3:33Speaker 2: I am interested.
- 3:34Speaker 1: So I, I do want to see, cause that Virginia
- 3:36Speaker 1: tech defense at times has been very, very leaky. And
- 3:39Speaker 1: I wonder about that secondary. If some of these weapons
- 3:42Speaker 1: for Clemson can get going. Conversely, I do like, I
- 3:46Speaker 1: do like Clemson's defense, but I really like grunk. I
- 3:50Speaker 1: think he's been one of the better, one of the
- 3:51Speaker 1: better quarterbacks in this league and, which has pretty good
- 3:54Speaker 1: quarterback play. You know, I don't certainly don't know that
- 3:56Speaker 1: it's up to the level of, of some other conferences,
- 3:58Speaker 1: but quarterback play in the ACC.
- 4:01Speaker 2: I don't know. Is it, is it better than the
- 4:02Speaker 2: big 10 right now?
- 4:04Speaker 3: Um, I think that there's more names that you look
- 4:07Speaker 3: at and you say that there's balance. Like think about it.
- 4:09Speaker 3: You have keen Holtz. You have, um, you have Mensah,
- 4:12Speaker 3: you have Gio Lopez. We have still have Kevin Jennings.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Those are four automatically. I take over most big 10
- 4:17Speaker 3: quarterbacks at this point. Uh, Gronkermeyer has been phenomenal in
- 4:20Speaker 3: a lot of big, a lot of ACC matchups, uh,
- 4:23Speaker 3: He also has some blundering mistakes. That's five. Yeah.
- 4:28Speaker 4: I mean, how dare you slander his name?
- 4:33Speaker 3: I would gladly do it.
- 4:34Speaker 2: I hate to take it here, but. Tommy Ashton Daniels
- 4:38Speaker 2: has played better.
- 4:39Speaker 4: No, no, stop it. Ashton Daniels is playing the wrong sport.
- 4:43Speaker 4: Stop that.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Go look at what Ashton Daniels has done. He's played
- 4:46Speaker 1: better than most big 10 quarterbacks.
- 4:48Speaker 4: Which is bizarre.
- 4:50Speaker 2: It's absolutely stupid. I agree.
- 4:52Speaker 1: I was very low on him. Ashton Daniels has not
- 4:54Speaker 1: been a top five problem for Florida state this year.
- 4:57Speaker 3: No, that's the thing. Yeah.
- 4:59Speaker 2: He's played.
- 5:00Speaker 3: I mean, The interceptions are bad at the worst time,
- 5:03Speaker 3: but that's about it.
- 5:04Speaker 2: That you could say.
- 5:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:05Speaker 2: And they almost always come when they're trailing by multiple scores. Yeah. So,
- 5:09Speaker 2: you know, so like I just, I think quarterback play.
- 5:12Speaker 1: And so anyway, all that to say, I, I like
- 5:14Speaker 1: grunk and I think that this defense can get got
- 5:18Speaker 1: how they run.
- 5:19Speaker 2: The ball will be interesting to me too. And again,
- 5:21Speaker 2: how they defend.
- 5:22Speaker 1: The run because Pittsburgh went down a quarterback and you
- 5:25Speaker 1: were at home and with Pittsburgh down a quarterback, it's like, okay,
- 5:29Speaker 1: we're just going to run out of your throat every
- 5:30Speaker 1: single play.
- 5:30Speaker 2: And they pretty much did.
- 5:32Speaker 4: Yep.
- 5:32Speaker 2: So the matchups in this are fascinating. How Clemson.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Here's the thing that is so important. Obviously, Franklin had
- 5:42Speaker 1: the and Tom knows this better than anybody. Franklin has
- 5:45Speaker 1: that thing, man, where it becomes a big game. And
- 5:48Speaker 1: I don't know how big of a game this is,
- 5:50Speaker 1: but it becomes a big game and things just don't
- 5:51Speaker 1: go right. And whether that's on him or just bad
- 5:53Speaker 1: freaking luck.
- 5:54Speaker 2: I don't know, man. I'm not trying to.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Pile on when, when things have gone hard, but in
- 5:58Speaker 1: big games, things have not gone right for James Franklin.
- 6:00Speaker 2: How big of a game is this? I don't know.
- 6:01Speaker 2: It's big enough.
- 6:02Speaker 1: You know, like it's, it's two of the teams that
- 6:05Speaker 1: are alive in the ACC right now playing at 7.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Like on the road, like that's a big game to me.
- 6:10Speaker 1: You know, it's not Ohio state, Indiana big, but it's
- 6:12Speaker 1: big in this conference. So I, I wonder about that too.
- 6:16Speaker 1: That's not a thing we can break down, but like
- 6:18Speaker 1: just in general, that's something that's on my mind. I'll
- 6:20Speaker 1: get right back to the clip with Tom and Cole
- 6:22Speaker 1: of the power to in just a moment.
- 6:24Speaker 2: But first I want to give you a couple of picks.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Now, if you want to get all the picks, you
- 6:27Speaker 1: got to go watch the live show, the prize picks app,
- 6:30Speaker 1: all new users there play $ 5, get 150 in lineups instantly.
- 6:34Speaker 2: If you use code HMA and win your first $ 5.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Lineup instantly, Give me the more on Trinidad's passing yards
- 6:41Speaker 1: at 243.5. Just one yard away from that, 244.5. Give
- 6:46Speaker 1: me the less on Arch Manning. Now, I actually like
- 6:49Speaker 1: Texas to win this game, but I'm going to take
- 6:52Speaker 1: the reverse of what many people might think on the
- 6:55Speaker 1: passing totals. We also picked Arch's passing touchdowns. We took
- 6:58Speaker 1: Kiwan Lacy. We took Trinidad's passing touchdowns, but I'm not
- 7:01Speaker 1: telling you what those picks are. You got to go
- 7:02Speaker 1: watch the live show to check it out. That's on
- 7:05Speaker 1: College Football Addiction. We appreciate you for watching. Make sure
- 7:08Speaker 1: you're on the PrizePix app. Again, that code is HMA,
- 7:09Speaker 1: and we'll see you guys real soon.
- 7:12Speaker 4: But you're fair to bring that up because Clemson right
- 7:15Speaker 4: now is tied for fourth in the standings in the ACC.
- 7:19Speaker 4: You're behind Miami, Wake Forest, and SMU. So Clemson needs
- 7:23Speaker 4: to keep pace if they want to be in contention
- 7:25Speaker 4: potentially for that second spot in Charlotte in the ACC
- 7:28Speaker 4: title game. Right, and then Virginia Tech, it's a logjam
- 7:32Speaker 4: of two lost teams within the conference. Louisville's 3-2, but
- 7:35Speaker 4: then Pitt, Cal, Virginia Tech, and UVA, all at 2-2.
- 7:40Speaker 4: So for Virginia Tech and James Franklin, it's trying to
- 7:44Speaker 4: keep up and keep yourself in the upper echelon of
- 7:46Speaker 4: the ACC as the season goes on, because otherwise you
- 7:49Speaker 4: fall behind. into a situation where you're in the bottom half,
- 7:51Speaker 4: and that's not where Franklin wants to be. The Pitt
- 7:54Speaker 4: game was not necessarily a game that we looked at
- 7:56Speaker 4: as like, wow, this is like an earth-shattering game, but
- 7:59Speaker 4: it was a cool matchup. Heichel gets hurt. It looked
- 8:01Speaker 4: like everything should go Virginia Tech's way at home, and
- 8:04Speaker 4: they still found a way to blow it. Then Pat
- 8:06Speaker 4: Arduzzi says some dumb stuff after the game. But this
- 8:09Speaker 4: game is far bigger because this.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Is James Franklin. To be fair, Pat Arduzzi, Pat Narduzzi
- 8:14Speaker 2: says dumb stuff at all times.
- 8:15Speaker 4: Every day. Every single day.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Every day. He wakes up. He's like Dan Wolkin. He
- 8:19Speaker 2: just wakes up and says, what's the stupidest shit I
- 8:21Speaker 2: can say today? All right, let's do that. But anyway,
- 8:23Speaker 2: back to your point.
- 8:26Speaker 4: Pat Narduzzi is the type of person that gets stoned,
- 8:28Speaker 4: writes down a cool thought the night that they are stoned,
- 8:31Speaker 4: and then the next day they're like, wow, that was
- 8:33Speaker 4: a great idea. I should say that out loud to
- 8:35Speaker 4: other people. So I think this is a very important
- 8:39Speaker 4: game within the world of the ACC community Trying to
- 8:43Speaker 4: get yourself to a college football playoff. Because let's not forget,
- 8:46Speaker 4: we talked about the Big 12 earlier. Everybody's in love
- 8:49Speaker 4: with the Big 12 right now. Oh my gosh, three
- 8:51Speaker 4: Big 12 teams could make the college football playoff. Well,
- 8:53Speaker 4: here's the ACC saying, hey, we should at least get two.
- 8:57Speaker 4: Maybe we should get three. So Clemson and company, you
- 9:00Speaker 4: can't afford to not be in the ACC title game
- 9:05Speaker 4: if you're within this conference. Because if you're trying to
- 9:07Speaker 4: make the playoff, you have to make the ACC title game,
- 9:10Speaker 4: in my opinion. So Clemson has to keep pace here.
- 9:13Speaker 4: I'm with you, TJ. I like what Grunkemeyer can do
- 9:16Speaker 4: within the passing game. I think Clemson, yes, they have
- 9:20Speaker 4: been tested against some good passing teams, Miami being the
- 9:24Speaker 4: best one, and Miami smoked them like a blunt at
- 9:26Speaker 4: a frat party. I don't think this is going to
- 9:28Speaker 4: be the exact same thing, but Virginia Tech's going to
- 9:31Speaker 4: have their opportunities. Tough place to play. I think I'm
- 9:35Speaker 4: going to barely take Clemson. This is a one-point win,
- 9:39Speaker 4: something like that, very narrow, comes down to the end.
- 9:42Speaker 4: There will be turnovers. Both these teams seem to turn
- 9:45Speaker 4: the ball over at bad times. This is going to
- 9:48Speaker 4: be a fun game. This is really going to be
- 9:50Speaker 4: an interesting game within the ACC.
- 9:53Speaker 1: I cannot wait to watch this game because I do agree.
- 9:56Speaker 1: It's fascinating on both sides.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Go ahead, Cole.
- 9:59Speaker 3: I was just going to say, do you, did you
- 10:01Speaker 3: guys watch last week? The Georgia tech game coming out
- 10:04Speaker 3: of the break, they scored 14 unanswered points. And I
- 10:06Speaker 3: think it was like within, but it was like with
- 10:08Speaker 3: the yellow jacket scored back to back touchdown.
- 10:10Speaker 2: What was it?
- 10:11Speaker 3: Like a minute 35 of time of possession. Like they
- 10:15Speaker 3: had the explosives. It was a three play drive for
- 10:17Speaker 3: 40 in 48 seconds and And then a two-play drive,
- 10:19Speaker 3: 37 yards for 28 seconds. And trust me, it helped
- 10:23Speaker 3: that you had a good field position. But still, my
- 10:25Speaker 3: point is, is that do you have an explosive playmaker
- 10:29Speaker 3: and do you have a trust in a quarterback like
- 10:31Speaker 3: Tate Reynolds to find a Bryant Wesco or a TJ
- 10:34Speaker 3: Moore that can get open like that to shift momentum
- 10:36Speaker 3: when Virginia Tech's up by double digits and now they
- 10:39Speaker 3: make it a one-point game? So it's like, that to
- 10:42Speaker 3: me is where I think it's really important to have
- 10:45Speaker 3: context involved. I don't like Virginia Tech's defense. I don't
- 10:50Speaker 3: hate it.
- 10:50Speaker 2: I think it's fine.
- 10:52Speaker 3: But there's two passing touchdowns right now in the year
- 10:54Speaker 3: for Tate Reynolds. There's two. And for the total season,
- 10:58Speaker 3: there's two total, I mean, one total passing touchdown. There's
- 11:01Speaker 3: seven turnovers by both him and Chris Fazzina. As much
- 11:05Speaker 3: as I think that it is a game that because
- 11:07Speaker 3: Death Valley plays a role in it, I'm taking Virginia Tech.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Better quarterback, Nathan Gronkmeyer. Better offensive concepts, I think right
- 11:15Speaker 3: now is Virginia Tech. I think that Virginia Tech-Stevens can
- 11:18Speaker 3: do just enough to win this one. I'll go 34-28.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I kind of like Virginia Tech here, too. Clemson a
- 11:28Speaker 1: two-and-a-half point favorite. So basically just the home field advantage.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Vegas telling you these teams are incredibly even.
- 11:36Speaker 2: The thing about that is Clemson fans don't yell at
- 11:39Speaker 2: me for this.
- 11:40Speaker 1: I don't feel like whole, I don't feel like Clemson
- 11:43Speaker 1: because they're in this weird spot. I don't know that
- 11:45Speaker 1: they're in the purgatory quite like we are in Tallahassee,
- 11:48Speaker 1: but I do think they're in a weird purgatory spot too.
- 11:51Speaker 1: And I just don't know that I've seen death Valley
- 11:54Speaker 1: be death Valley in.
- 11:57Speaker 2: The way that it was in the past. Now, you know,
- 12:00Speaker 2: chicken or the egg, right?
- 12:02Speaker 1: Is it, it's, it's easier for death Valley to be
- 12:04Speaker 1: death Valley with Deshaun Watson at quarterback and Trevor Lawrence
- 12:07Speaker 1: at quarterback.
- 12:07Speaker 4: Sure.
- 12:08Speaker 1: It is, you know, but I just don't know that
- 12:10Speaker 1: we've quite seen that. And so I am so back
- 12:14Speaker 1: and forth on this. I'm going to lean slightly Clemson here,
- 12:20Speaker 1: but I do, I do think it matters which Clemson
- 12:23Speaker 1: team shows up. I do kind of feel like I
- 12:24Speaker 1: have a little more confidence in knowing kind of which
- 12:28Speaker 1: Virginia tech team is going to show up and having some,
- 12:31Speaker 1: some confidence in more consistency there.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Clemson's been such a roller coaster.
- 12:36Speaker 1: And obviously I have less of a sample size with
- 12:38Speaker 1: this just being Franklin's first year. Clemson has been such
- 12:40Speaker 1: a roller coaster that I feel like you could get
- 12:43Speaker 1: wild variants on performance and, and what team shows up.
- 12:48Speaker 1: I guess I'm banking on the good one, you know,
- 12:51Speaker 1: the better one to show up this weekend for Clemson,
- 12:54Speaker 1: but with very little confidence, I'll take the tigers close
- 13:00Speaker 1: fun game. 31 28 is what I'll say, but, I
- 13:05Speaker 1: don't know, man. Tell me which Clemson team shows up,
- 13:08Speaker 1: and I'll tell you who wins. But I feel like
- 13:10Speaker 1: I kind of know what I'm getting for Virginia Tech.
- 13:12Speaker 2: It's kind of a coin flip with Clemson right now.
- 13:14Speaker 3: Doubting, doubting, doubting, doubting, doubting James Franklin in big games.
- 13:19Speaker 3: How dare you? You have every reason to, but how
- 13:22Speaker 3: dare you?
- 13:24Speaker 4: I'm going to go Clemson. I'm going to go Clemson 28-27.
- 13:30Speaker 4: I think Grunkmeier, statistically, it looks good. There will probably
- 13:33Speaker 4: be a turnover at some point that really kills Virginia
- 13:37Speaker 4: Tech's chances. We take odds on whether or not Dabo's
- 13:40Speaker 4: going to fall down the hill one of these days.
- 13:42Speaker 4: I'm looking forward to that happening.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Literally or figuratively?
- 13:47Speaker 4: Literally. He's sprinting down the hill. I know Clemson fans
- 13:53Speaker 4: love him. So I'm not hating on Clemson by any means,
- 13:56Speaker 4: but like the bus thing, they just go in circles
- 13:58Speaker 4: around the stadium and then he sprints down the hill.
- 14:01Speaker 4: And like time catches.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Up with all of us, man.
- 14:04Speaker 4: One of these days, Hammy's going to give out.
- 14:06Speaker 3: It's going to be awesome. Is that the way they
- 14:09Speaker 3: get rid of Davo toward ACL out for the season?
- 14:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:13Speaker 1: And then the entire hundred, you know, everybody just tramples
- 14:19Speaker 1: it out.
