- 0:09happen to be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the Coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning. So today we're talking about the
- 0:32fact that sometimes we second guess ourselves.
- 0:34Now this is a one of those conversations where we know
- 0:39we've all done it. I do it, We put something out
- 0:42there and whether it's something we said, something we're working
- 0:46on, something we did a proposal, whatever it might be, we second
- 0:50guess ourselves. We make decision to dive in.
- 0:54And then all of a sudden we're like, oh, maybe I shouldn't have
- 0:57done it that way. And recently I was working on a
- 1:01project with a client and we discussed the entire event.
- 1:06We discussed exactly how she was going to do it, what she was
- 1:08going to go through. And she's a very talented,
- 1:11talented person in the area of which she works and extremely
- 1:16good at what she does. Well, came time for a proposal
- 1:20to work with another company. And she was putting together the
- 1:24entire idea of what she would do, how she would do it, and
- 1:28came down to having to, you know, select the pricing.
- 1:31And one of the things that's really hard always about doing
- 1:34pricing is being able to justify in your own mind, your, you know
- 1:39your, your price. And we often will say, well,
- 1:43what is everybody else bidding? Now?
- 1:45This is very common. We all know it.
- 1:48We'll hear well, what, what is everybody else doing?
- 1:50Because we don't know. So we have to, we have to say,
- 1:54am I looking to base myself off of everyone else or am I looking
- 1:58to base myself off of me? Now this is where it gets really
- 2:01tricky in your in when we're sorting through this in our
- 2:04minds, we have to pull back and say, well, am I basing what I
- 2:08want to charge off of what somebody else is charging for
- 2:13themselves? Well, how, how about if they're
- 2:15not sure and they're throwing out a number and nobody has
- 2:18certainty and the value of what they bring to the table and they
- 2:22want to base it off of everybody else.
- 2:24So everyone's staring at each other essentially in a virtual
- 2:28way trying to figure out what the value of this is.
- 2:31What is the market value? What are people willing to pay?
- 2:34It's just like the value of a home will say, get a comp on a
- 2:38house and you look at the neighborhood and you say, well,
- 2:41what did somebody else pay for that?
- 2:43And who knows? When you pull comps on the
- 2:46houses and you look around the neighborhoods, you're like, I
- 2:49can't believe somebody paid that.
- 2:50The house is not worth that much money.
- 2:52But it's all emotional. And that's what gets so tricky
- 2:55about this, because somebody could have paid recently the
- 2:58house I have next door, somebody paid an extreme amount of money
- 3:05for the house that was there. And we were every neighbor was
- 3:08like, what the hell is that? Like that house is not of that
- 3:12value because it was beat up. Well, they wanted to be in the
- 3:15neighborhood. They wanted the privacy.
- 3:18So they purchased the house and they that was the value to them.
- 3:24So if we go back to the proposal thought process here we are
- 3:28working on proposal, getting it ready to for her to send it in.
- 3:32And lo and behold, she questions it and says, well, I don't know
- 3:36if I should go in. And I said, listen, we did the
- 3:38numbers. We understand the amount of
- 3:40work. We understand that you have to
- 3:42put in an extreme amount of your knowledge base into what you're
- 3:46doing this they're paying for your knowledge base.
- 3:49And she's like, yes, but I, I, I am not like the others in this
- 3:53process. I know the other people that are
- 3:55bidding are all very much aligned.
- 3:57So I'm like, OK, so they're paying for your value of you
- 4:01being unique is essentially what you're telling me.
- 4:03Yes. OK, So if that's the case, then
- 4:07aren't you, aren't you worth that?
- 4:09And we had to go through it and someone said she, you know,
- 4:13someone said to her that you got to you know what yourself worth
- 4:16is. And this statement is so
- 4:18infuriating because it this is moving target.
- 4:22My friends. We all have these things that
- 4:24are moving targets in US and self worth air quoting it is one
- 4:28of them. Because some days we feel like
- 4:30we're worth 1,000,000 bucks and some days we feel like we're
- 4:33worth a pile of poo. That is just the way the human
- 4:37condition goes. So getting upset with yourself
- 4:39and saying I don't have high self worth, Oh, that is so not
- 4:44true because it's not always that way.
- 4:47It's situational, just like most emotional things are.
- 4:51And yourself worth is not one singular thread inside of you.
- 4:57It's made-up of multiple things. So when you remember that, it's
- 5:01a lot easier to get past it. So we had a conversation about
- 5:05it and said, based on this product, based on what you're
- 5:08doing, based on how you're putting it together, are you
- 5:12confident that if you that is what you want to go in with?
- 5:16And she's like, well, I'm 80% confident that's what I want to
- 5:20go in with. And I was like 80%, OK, what
- 5:23would it take to get to 90%? And she's like, I guess that I
- 5:27just have to make a decision that my, my difference is worth
- 5:31that. And I said, you have to make a
- 5:33decision that you want to focus on selling that part of it,
- 5:37saying how unique you are and build that into the proposal.
- 5:40And as soon as I said that, she was like, oh, so I'm actually
- 5:43able to show that in the proposal.
- 5:45I was like, yes, acknowledge you're different and make them
- 5:48think they want the different thing.
- 5:50And she was like, oh, OK, and boom, we had something
- 5:54different. So please try that.
- 5:57Give it a whirl because I know it works.
- 5:59All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 6:02will see you tomorrow. Bye.
