- 0:00Speaker 1: Final segment with coach Riama and then Rebecca Lobo will
- 0:03Speaker 1: join us here on the Women's Basketball Coaches Show. Let's
- 0:06Speaker 1: shift gears to Sunday. We had the Providence take on
- 0:08Speaker 1: the Friars for the second straight year, and you know,
- 0:11Speaker 1: two years ago we were supposed to play at the AMP,
- 0:13Speaker 1: but a snowstorm took care of that. Playing at the
- 0:16Speaker 1: Amp again on Sunday and old mother Nature is going
- 0:18Speaker 1: to recap it again, but you're playing a Friar's team
- 0:21Speaker 1: coming off went over to Paul after having lost what
- 0:24Speaker 1: here seven of their previous eight games. But one player
- 0:28Speaker 1: that has always been a constant for them is Olivia Oltson.
- 0:32Speaker 1: I know she talking with Kylie pregame. Last time we
- 0:35Speaker 1: played them in December, she was, you know, just coming
- 0:38Speaker 1: back from injury rehab. I think she started playing essentially
- 0:43Speaker 1: when the season began. But she's a force down low
- 0:46Speaker 1: and she's been a handful and will continue to be.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Along with Graycopos, it seems like.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you know, Providence does a great job defensively.
- 0:58Speaker 2: You know, they they they are in a lot of
- 1:00Speaker 2: games with their defense. You know, they they they lose
- 1:03Speaker 2: because they have trouble scoring a lot of times. But
- 1:08Speaker 2: you look at all their scores, they're all very, very
- 1:14Speaker 2: low scoring games. You know, they're in the sixties always.
- 1:19Speaker 2: So you know what, you know what you're going to
- 1:21Speaker 2: get defensively, and you have to, you know, you have
- 1:26Speaker 2: to make it a fast paced game. You know, you've
- 1:27Speaker 2: got to make it a transition game, you know, like
- 1:30Speaker 2: we did when we played them at the Excel, because otherwise,
- 1:34Speaker 2: if it becomes a walk it up game that plays
- 1:37Speaker 2: to their strengths. And you know, playing against the Paul
- 1:41Speaker 2: is not necessarily an easy thing to do, but you know,
- 1:47Speaker 2: they they managed to handle them pretty easily. So we're gonna,
- 1:52Speaker 2: you know, we're gonna go out there and we're gonna,
- 1:55Speaker 2: you know, do what we try to do every game.
- 1:57Speaker 2: And and you're those two kids are are the two
- 2:02Speaker 2: that you've got to worry about the most. And you've
- 2:04Speaker 2: got to figure out a way to again, like I said,
- 2:08Speaker 2: you know, force turnovers get out in transition, and you
- 2:13Speaker 2: know when the defensive, when the when the rebounding battle,
- 2:20Speaker 2: you know, and it's a it's it's in the big arena,
- 2:24Speaker 2: right from what I understand, you know, So hopefully the
- 2:28Speaker 2: Snow won't keep a lot of people from coming, so
- 2:30Speaker 2: it should be a great atmosphere and you know, look
- 2:35Speaker 2: forward to getting back into conference way.
- 2:37Speaker 1: You know, one of the good things defensively about your team,
- 2:40Speaker 1: not only are you getting a lot of tips, you're
- 2:41Speaker 1: getting a lot of steels. You're among the league leader
- 2:43Speaker 1: and in steels, averaging almost eleven per game, and usually
- 2:47Speaker 1: when you've been at your best specific statistically speaking, over
- 2:52Speaker 1: the years, that's been a good number, but it seems
- 2:54Speaker 1: like maybe a little more so this year than in
- 2:57Speaker 1: recent years, and certainly between k K Sarah, even as
- 3:01Speaker 1: he is pretty good along with Paige, it you know,
- 3:04Speaker 1: just getting little tips and touches here, that's been a
- 3:07Speaker 1: good thing for your team, and you've been able to
- 3:08Speaker 1: take advantage of it.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I think having having the ability to put more
- 3:14Speaker 2: people in the game, you know, keeping people fresher allows
- 3:18Speaker 2: us to you know, maintain the pressure. You know. I
- 3:24Speaker 2: wish we could have done more of that last night,
- 3:27Speaker 2: you know, you know, I think a couple more makes,
- 3:33Speaker 2: you know, would have given us an opportunity to set
- 3:35Speaker 2: up our pressure even more. You know, people think where
- 3:38Speaker 2: that's crazy. Why would you press the team that likes
- 3:40Speaker 2: to run and shoot thirty three is a game because
- 3:44Speaker 2: that's the way you have to play against those teams.
- 3:46Speaker 2: You know, you have to be on offense even when
- 3:49Speaker 2: you're on defense. And you know, we've we've had a
- 3:52Speaker 2: lot of success doing that, and uh, you know, playing
- 3:57Speaker 2: a lot of players, generally speaking, playing eight or nine
- 3:59Speaker 2: players helps you do that. So let's hope that we
- 4:04Speaker 2: can get back there, you know, starting Sunday.
- 4:07Speaker 1: All right, final question, now that Aubrey's back and you
- 4:11Speaker 1: pretty much this is the rush you're going to have
- 4:14Speaker 1: the rest of the season. Knock on wood. Has this
- 4:16Speaker 1: team finits identity yet as we're in a February.
- 4:19Speaker 2: No, not really. I mean, you know, so your you know,
- 4:24Speaker 2: like what kind of ident if somebody said, you know,
- 4:27Speaker 2: what's your identity? You know, you say, well what is it?
- 4:30Speaker 2: You know, how would you describe it? You know, and well,
- 4:34Speaker 2: when we're at our best, we do abc D. Well.
- 4:38Speaker 2: What about when you're at your worst, well, we don't
- 4:40Speaker 2: do abc D. Well. If a team has an identity,
- 4:43Speaker 2: then they are that all the time. So we're getting
- 4:47Speaker 2: close to finding something. Yeah, but that means that players
- 4:52Speaker 2: have to be consistent each and every game. You have
- 4:54Speaker 2: to get the exact same things out of them every game,
- 4:57Speaker 2: So as we get closer to that, you know, that's
- 5:00Speaker 2: hard to do for an entire season. Yeah, you know,
- 5:04Speaker 2: so you know, my thinking always is, let's try to
- 5:07Speaker 2: do that. But the reality of the situation is, you know,
- 5:13Speaker 2: from first part of March to the end of March,
- 5:17Speaker 2: you know, you've got four weekends where you've got to
- 5:20Speaker 2: be really, really good, and that's a little bit more manageable.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Then you've got to be able to be consistent for
- 5:26Speaker 2: four months. That's my that's my take.
- 5:28Speaker 1: On all right, Gino, thank you. As always, We'll see
- 5:31Speaker 1: a Sunday in Providence.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Okay, Bob, thank you.
- 5:34Speaker 1: That's at coach Gino Orimo of the Huskies. We transition
- 5:37Speaker 1: to Rebecca Lobo in just a minute on the Yukon
