Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome back to another episode of Ross and Rizzo Unfiltered.
- 0:05Speaker 1: I'm Anthony Rizzo with my partner, David Ross. Rossi, I
- 0:09Speaker 1: have to give you flowers to start this show. Back
- 0:13Speaker 1: at the end of September, when we were doing our
- 0:15Speaker 1: playoff predictions and our brackets, you had the Tampa Bay
- 0:20Speaker 1: Rays playing the Milwaukee Brewers in the World Series. And
- 0:24Speaker 1: after tonight, Tampa beating the Guardians 7-3 in Game 6,
- 0:29Speaker 1: the Tampa Bay Rays won the American League pennant, and
- 0:33Speaker 1: are going to the World Series, Rossi.
- 0:35Speaker 2: I mean, just going out on a limb, picking the
- 0:37Speaker 2: two best teams in the game, best team in the
- 0:39Speaker 2: American League and the best team in the National League,
- 0:42Speaker 2: picking those two was not a hard decision. But I
- 0:44Speaker 2: know sometimes we get caught up in the Dodgers or
- 0:48Speaker 2: the market and can they handle it like the small ball,
- 0:51Speaker 2: no home runs, you know, little.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Stuff like that. But it's nice to be right. That
- 0:57Speaker 3: is for sure.
- 0:58Speaker 2: I'm pumped for the Tampa Bay Rays. Here in our
- 1:02Speaker 2: home state of Florida, that'll be fun. I get to
- 1:04Speaker 2: cover the World Series, and this will be driving distance
- 1:07Speaker 2: for me. So that'll be nice, easy travel when we
- 1:11Speaker 2: get to games three, four, and five.
- 1:13Speaker 3: But, yeah, man. So, Paul, what an atmosphere down in Tampa.
- 1:17Speaker 3: The trial was rocking, bro. Rocking.
- 1:20Speaker 1: And Lauren Shahadi said it, too, a full-circle moment, not
- 1:24Speaker 1: being able to play baseball there last year. They're having
- 1:26Speaker 1: to borrow George Steinbrenner Fields. the Yankees spring training complex
- 1:30Speaker 1: all year, kind of a grind for them there, right?
- 1:34Speaker 1: It's a beautiful spring training complex, but it's not a
- 1:36Speaker 1: big league stadium. So for them a year later to
- 1:40Speaker 1: be going to the world, they just won the American
- 1:42Speaker 1: league pennant. Like they're going to the world series. They're
- 1:44Speaker 1: playing the brewers, the two, like you said, Rossi, the
- 1:47Speaker 1: two best teams in baseball. And rarely does that happen
- 1:50Speaker 1: anymore where the two best teams are meeting each other
- 1:52Speaker 1: in the world series.
- 1:53Speaker 2: I'm like looking back on it, like just, the, the
- 1:58Speaker 2: way these two teams play and their style. It's so awesome.
- 2:03Speaker 2: They showed highlights of the last time they were going.
- 2:05Speaker 3: And I was on that.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Oh, eight Red Sox team that they beat in game
- 2:09Speaker 2: seven to go on and play the Phillies who ended
- 2:12Speaker 2: up winning the whole thing. But we had a couple
- 2:14Speaker 2: of celebrities. Did you see Tyler glass now or Rosa Raina?
- 2:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:19Speaker 3: V Dickie V getting his legend. He's always been there.
- 2:22Speaker 3: He's been there since day one.
- 2:24Speaker 2: So, Pretty cool to see that place just lit up
- 2:27Speaker 2: with all the fans and celebs around.
- 2:30Speaker 3: What a game.
- 2:31Speaker 2: I thought it was going to be a ho-hum game
- 2:34Speaker 2: early on, starting off. It looked like the Rays had
- 2:37Speaker 2: so many chances to bust that thing open. Tons of runners.
- 2:42Speaker 2: There's traffic everywhere. We get some infield ends, not able
- 2:48Speaker 2: to get runners in. Guys You know, I was thinking
- 2:50Speaker 2: about talking a little bit about, you know, some of
- 2:52Speaker 2: these young guys swinging early with bases loaded. You feel
- 2:55Speaker 2: that adrenaline rather than having the at-bat. They only scratch
- 2:57Speaker 2: out one with the bases loaded. You know, a couple
- 3:01Speaker 2: times I just thought it just, they were teetering with, like, okay,
- 3:05Speaker 2: don't mess around and fuck this up because you guys
- 3:08Speaker 2: got this game by, you know, you had it in hand,
- 3:11Speaker 2: but they could never stretch the lead until some big
- 3:13Speaker 2: homers late.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Yeah, Junior Caminero and Yandy Diaz both hitting two-run homers.
- 3:19Speaker 1: I mean, just you see it in their celebrations. You
- 3:23Speaker 1: see it in the dugout how happy those guys are,
- 3:26Speaker 1: how excited they are to send this team to the
- 3:28Speaker 1: World Series. I mean, bro, Yandy Diaz called game, right?
- 3:32Speaker 1: He said it before the game. He said yesterday, it
- 3:35Speaker 1: all ends tomorrow. We're going to win tomorrow. And then
- 3:38Speaker 1: in the eighth inning, he hits a two-run homer when
- 3:41Speaker 1: the Guardians started coming back, a little bit of momentum
- 3:44Speaker 1: in the eighth or in the seventh. In the eighth,
- 3:46Speaker 1: he hits a two-run homer and says, game.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Game.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Game over.
- 3:50Speaker 2: I called it. I told you guys we're not playing
- 3:52Speaker 2: a game seven. It's over tomorrow. And, you know, the
- 3:57Speaker 2: fact that he put his money where his mouth was is, one, impressive.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Like, obviously, you want to have confidence.
- 4:04Speaker 2: I didn't think that was, like, bulletin board material like
- 4:06Speaker 2: everybody tried to make it out to be.
- 4:08Speaker 3: But you want to have confidence in your team.
- 4:10Speaker 2: I want to talk about Junior's home run trot. That
- 4:13Speaker 2: guy knows how to put on a show when he
- 4:15Speaker 2: hits a big homer. He had– You know, back in
- 4:17Speaker 2: the day when he was playing winter ball, there's a
- 4:19Speaker 2: viral video of him taking forever going around the bases. Well,
- 4:23Speaker 2: he topped that tonight with the 47 celebrations he had
- 4:27Speaker 2: going around the bases.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Like, he's such a kid. It's so infectious.
- 4:33Speaker 2: I just started laughing about the third celebration and the
- 4:36Speaker 2: people he was pointing to.
- 4:39Speaker 3: What a cool feeling, I'm sure.
- 4:40Speaker 2: For him, his speech afterwards of, like, You know, getting
- 4:44Speaker 2: the fans involved. This is for you, Tampa. What a
- 4:49Speaker 2: cool moment for him and his young career.
- 4:51Speaker 3: That was awesome.
- 4:52Speaker 1: You know what I absolutely love? You said him talking afterwards.
- 4:56Speaker 1: People at home and fans don't understand how hard it
- 5:00Speaker 1: is to come over from a foreign country and learn
- 5:04Speaker 1: the English language, to learn the culture here. And a
- 5:08Speaker 1: lot of these guys, the easy thing to do is
- 5:10Speaker 1: have an interpreter, right? Because it's really hard.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Things.
- 5:13Speaker 1: When the microphone's in front of you, it's really easy
- 5:17Speaker 1: to lose things in translation. And I really admire and
- 5:20Speaker 1: respect that maybe he doesn't speak the best English, but
- 5:24Speaker 1: he's so confident that he doesn't need the translator. He
- 5:28Speaker 1: does the best he can. And that is such a
- 5:31Speaker 1: hard thing that he's doing, and he's doing it on
- 5:33Speaker 1: a national level. And I just respect and admire that
- 5:36Speaker 1: because I know so many guys will just, hey, have
- 5:39Speaker 1: the interpreter. Cause that's easy and safe. So it's just,
- 5:42Speaker 1: it's such a hard thing that he's doing that I
- 5:44Speaker 1: think gets overlooked by anyone just watching the game casually.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 5:49Speaker 2: It was, it was, it was a cool moment for him. And, uh,
- 5:52Speaker 2: and Yandy, like what a, what a big, big Homer.
- 5:54Speaker 2: It looked like he was sitting all over that change
- 5:56Speaker 2: of Yandy.
- 5:57Speaker 1: He like, I love the celebrations. I think it's, it's
- 6:00Speaker 1: really easy for any older player like yourself, Rossi, no offense.
- 6:06Speaker 1: I know you managed. I know you're managed. I know
- 6:09Speaker 1: you manage, so you're in with the times. But I
- 6:11Speaker 1: love the celebration. The celebrations are easy to tick older
- 6:15Speaker 1: players off, but it's the emotion and the excitement of
- 6:20Speaker 1: everything that goes into hitting a home run that guys
- 6:22Speaker 1: celebrate with their team. And for the most part, all
- 6:24Speaker 1: these guys are celebrating directly towards their own team. There's
- 6:27Speaker 1: no disrespect to anyone else. They're just enjoying the moment.
- 6:30Speaker 1: And I really do love to see it.
- 6:32Speaker 2: And that's what you're exactly right when you're celebrating with
- 6:35Speaker 2: your team. I think we've all been in that moment.
- 6:38Speaker 2: If you've hit a big home run in your career,
- 6:40Speaker 2: you turn into a little leaguer, right? Like you turn
- 6:42Speaker 2: into a 12 year old running around the bases. And
- 6:45Speaker 2: that feeling is just it, all that excitement, all that energy,
- 6:48Speaker 2: that adrenaline just comes out. I tell you who I
- 6:50Speaker 2: want to touch on too. There was drama in the eighth,
- 6:55Speaker 2: the guardians absolutely battled their ass off to get back
- 6:59Speaker 2: in this thing and had a chance to tie it really.
- 7:04Speaker 2: and Kevin Kelly came in in the eighth, threw three change-ups,
- 7:07Speaker 2: and said, not on my watch. That's big balls right there.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Coming in, bases loaded, World Series berth kind of on
- 7:16Speaker 2: the line, or game six. It's not game seven yet. But, man,
- 7:20Speaker 2: the way he handled that moment after others had kind
- 7:23Speaker 2: of fallen apart or not had their stuff was so impressive.
- 7:27Speaker 2: So shout-out, give Kevin Kelly his flowers. Not a strikeout
- 7:31Speaker 2: guy and end up punching out Rokio there with three changeups.
- 7:35Speaker 2: He came in and was just absolutely nasty.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, big spot there too. I remember texting
- 7:40Speaker 1: in our group saying, no, Brian Baker, this would be
- 7:43Speaker 1: the time for a four-out save. And your manager comes
- 7:46Speaker 1: on and says, well, it would be three days in
- 7:47Speaker 1: a row. He's a one-inning guy. So I was like, okay.
- 7:50Speaker 1: I mean, that's the trust that you need to have
- 7:53Speaker 1: in your bullpen, and it takes all 26 to get
- 7:55Speaker 1: it done. Kevin Kelly's been there doing it all year.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Kevin Cash said after the game, he's like, he said,
- 8:04Speaker 1: The Rays fans have seen this all year. We've done
- 8:07Speaker 1: it all year. Now the world's getting to see it, right?
- 8:09Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:10Speaker 1: How good that team has been. So, again, Kelly, Kevin Kelly,
- 8:15Speaker 1: a guy maybe not everyone knows on the national stage,
- 8:17Speaker 1: comes in in one of the biggest moments in the
- 8:19Speaker 1: game to shut down the Guardians there. So just an
- 8:23Speaker 1: overall complete series from the Rays.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Good defense.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Taylor Walls, exceptional on shortstop.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Oh, man. How about that double play coming across there?
- 8:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:33Speaker 3: Coming across for that double play.
- 8:35Speaker 1: He's, like, flying.
- 8:36Speaker 3: He seems like he's everywhere. He does feel like he's everywhere.
- 8:39Speaker 2: And I go back to, like, when we won in Boston,
- 8:43Speaker 2: it felt like Steve and Drew, our shortstop, when we
- 8:45Speaker 2: won in 13, he didn't allow their offense, the St. Louis' offense,
- 8:50Speaker 2: to get going because it felt like every ball up
- 8:53Speaker 2: the middle, every backhand, like, he was making plays right
- 8:56Speaker 2: and left. And you know how demoralizing that is from
- 8:58Speaker 2: an offensive standpoint because the Guardians really, you know, they
- 9:02Speaker 2: had some traffic, but it really didn't get anything going
- 9:04Speaker 2: until late.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I know.
- 9:06Speaker 1: And you know what too, Rossi? And this is a
- 9:10Speaker 1: perfect segue to our Corona Playa.
- 9:14Speaker 3: Playa of the week.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Freddie Peralta winning the ALCS MVP was just dominant. Three games,
- 9:23Speaker 1: two as a starter, one in relief two days ago. Tonight,
- 9:27Speaker 1: five and a third, one earned run, 12 innings overall
- 9:30Speaker 1: with one earned run over three outings, Rossi. I mean,
- 9:34Speaker 1: that's the formula, right? He comes over from the Mets.
- 9:38Speaker 1: The Rays identify something that they see why he was
- 9:42Speaker 1: the ace in Milwaukee and the player that they traded
- 9:44Speaker 1: for in New York. They unlock something. He says that
- 9:47Speaker 1: he feels like he's 10 feet tall there. And even
- 9:49Speaker 1: after the game, during his speech, he's saying how much
- 9:52Speaker 1: he loves these guys. You see how genuinely happy all
- 9:55Speaker 1: of those guys behind him were for him. He's been
- 9:57Speaker 1: there for two months. So that culture, that, that, just
- 10:00Speaker 1: tells me watching how good that culture there is in
- 10:03Speaker 1: that clubhouse, how excited all those guys were.
- 10:05Speaker 3: And he had that change up working early, man.
- 10:08Speaker 2: We're talking about Freddie Fastball and how Domini was his
- 10:11Speaker 2: last start with the heater. But man, the changeup just
- 10:14Speaker 2: kept those guys off balance. You could tell that thing
- 10:16Speaker 2: had some nasty sink to it. He was throwing it
- 10:18Speaker 2: down away early, getting swing and miss, getting soft contact,
- 10:21Speaker 2: getting the ground balls, relying on his defense.
- 10:24Speaker 3: Like, I felt like every.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Time the Guardians had something going, there was a double
- 10:28Speaker 2: play right around the corner, and that's a credit to
- 10:31Speaker 2: Freddie and that pitching staff. You know who, you know,
- 10:35Speaker 2: talking about the Guardians pitching staff a little bit, like,
- 10:38Speaker 2: all those guys that started all five starters staying healthy
- 10:42Speaker 2: all year. It looked like it just finally, they ran
- 10:44Speaker 2: out of steam here at the end of this thing.
- 10:46Speaker 2: You know, you're going to those bullpen guys didn't have a,
- 10:48Speaker 2: a lot of starters go deep, which the race did.
- 10:51Speaker 3: And it caught up to them a little bit.
- 10:52Speaker 2: You know, those guys giving up runs late that hadn't
- 10:55Speaker 2: given up any runs, um, get to that point. And
- 10:59Speaker 2: then they give up the two big homers where there
- 11:01Speaker 2: are two horses. So, um, Yeah, you've got to have
- 11:06Speaker 2: a complete team in this time of year. In a
- 11:08Speaker 2: seven-game series, we've talked about it, and it's hard to
- 11:11Speaker 2: go to those bullpen guys over and over again because
- 11:14Speaker 2: they're going to catch up or they're going to sit
- 11:15Speaker 2: on a pitch. They're going to see how the ball
- 11:19Speaker 2: moves when it comes out. Stuff's going to tick down
- 11:21Speaker 2: a little bit, all that adrenaline.
- 11:23Speaker 3: And the Rays took advantage of it, man.
- 11:26Speaker 2: That was impressive, but the Guardians pitching, it looks like
- 11:29Speaker 2: they just ran out of dudes.
- 11:31Speaker 1: No doubt. I think Well, Kevin Cash said it too.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Once this team gets playing daily, right, the back-to-back games
- 11:39Speaker 1: and into a groove, you're going to see our hitters
- 11:41Speaker 1: start hitting. And sure enough, he was absolutely spot on
- 11:45Speaker 1: with that comment. But, yeah, the Guardians staff, Hunter Gattis
- 11:48Speaker 1: threw in nine of the 11 playoff games they're in.
- 11:51Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 11:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Even if they do sneak this series, these guys will
- 11:57Speaker 1: be on absolute– E going into game one of the
- 12:01Speaker 1: World Series. Usually E on game four or five of
- 12:04Speaker 1: the World Series. Completely empty or being pushed in, towed in.
- 12:10Speaker 1: But that's where the five-game series and the division series
- 12:14Speaker 1: is a little tricky. You lose in that series, it's
- 12:19Speaker 1: kind of... I wish we could see a seven-game series there.
- 12:23Speaker 1: I wish the Yankees and the Rays could have played
- 12:25Speaker 1: a seven-game series. Because they both have depth.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Right?
- 12:29Speaker 1: Even, even the guardians in the white socks, right? The
- 12:32Speaker 1: white socks made this run because they have a group
- 12:34Speaker 1: of pitchers that they literally leaned on every day, seven
- 12:38Speaker 1: game series. You can't do that. And playing four in
- 12:41Speaker 1: a row, not saying that exposed the guardians because they
- 12:45Speaker 1: were right in these games. And these, this team grinded
- 12:47Speaker 1: the guardians. They're really good.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Really good team. Like they, Steven vote has those, has
- 12:54Speaker 1: those boys playing at a very high level. Um, Maybe
- 12:59Speaker 1: guys that on the national stage people aren't hearing of,
- 13:02Speaker 1: but Stephen Kwan, Jose Ramirez, who is the rookie chase.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Chase DeLauder. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 13:10Speaker 2: DeLauder.
- 13:10Speaker 1: I mean, stud in the postseason.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Stud, no doubt.
- 13:13Speaker 1: So just got to give credit to them, but it
- 13:16Speaker 1: just seemed like you said, Rossi, they just ran out
- 13:18Speaker 1: of arms and just didn't have that full depth like
- 13:22Speaker 1: the Rays had.
- 13:23Speaker 2: There's something about the warm summer air and a cold
- 13:25Speaker 2: corona with lime that makes the roar of the crowd
- 13:28Speaker 2: sound a lot like the roar of the waves.
- 13:30Speaker 4: That's because this is our playa, and the best seats
- 13:33Speaker 4: are always wherever you're sitting.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Whether it's a weeknight game under the lights or a
- 13:36Speaker 2: Sunday afternoon in the sun, you know baseball isn't about
- 13:39Speaker 2: rushing around. It's about settling in, letting the game come
- 13:43Speaker 2: to you. And nothing pairs better than an ice-cold corona.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Nothing.
- 13:48Speaker 4: So find your seat, your corona, and your lime. because
- 13:53Speaker 4: real fans know the only thing better than nine innings
- 13:56Speaker 4: is extra innings, especially on La Playa.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Corona.
- 14:00Speaker 4: La Playa awaits.
- 14:02Speaker 2: The official cerveza of Major League Baseball. Get yours at
- 14:05Speaker 2: ordercorona.com for 21 plus, relax responsibly. Corona Extra Beer, imported
- 14:12Speaker 2: by Crown Imports, Chicago, Illinois.
- 14:15Speaker 3: What's up, guys?
- 14:15Speaker 2: I need to tell you about this new prediction market
- 14:17Speaker 2: called Polymarket. It's the best new way to trade in sports.
- 14:21Speaker 2: In the past, if you wanted action on the game,
- 14:24Speaker 2: you'd put some money in, and if your team was
- 14:26Speaker 2: doing well and you wanted to cash out, they'd lock
- 14:28Speaker 2: the trade and take a huge fee. But Polymarket is
- 14:31Speaker 2: a prediction market. It's a stock exchange for sports, buying
- 14:34Speaker 2: in and selling out on your terms. I've tried them all,
- 14:37Speaker 2: and Polymarket is simply the best prediction market. Better than DraftKings, FanDuel, Kalshi,
- 14:43Speaker 2: you name it. They're so confident you'll never go back
- 14:46Speaker 2: to the other guys. They're giving you a free $ 25
- 14:48Speaker 2: on your first trade when you deposit just $ 10. And
- 14:51Speaker 2: now they've launched a new feature, squads, a group chat
- 14:54Speaker 2: where you can see what everyone is trading. So download
- 14:57Speaker 2: the Polymarket app today and use the code Ross Rizzo
- 15:00Speaker 2: when you sign up. That's code Ross Rizzo and get
- 15:04Speaker 2: $ 25 free after you deposit just $ 10. Yeah. And two,
- 15:08Speaker 2: you look back on the divisions they came out of, right? And, and,
- 15:13Speaker 2: the Rays came out of one of the toughest divisions,
- 15:15Speaker 2: the toughest division in the American League, and the best
- 15:19Speaker 2: team in the American League, and that's why they're still standing.
- 15:22Speaker 2: They backed up what they had proved all year, and
- 15:24Speaker 2: so have the Brewers, and we've got Brewers-Rays World Series, baby,
- 15:29Speaker 2: starting Friday night.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Let's go. Yeah.
- 15:33Speaker 1: You know what, Rossi? I have to... I saw something,
- 15:35Speaker 1: I believe maybe Foul Territory put this out, or one
- 15:39Speaker 1: of the programs on X I saw, about.
- 15:44Speaker 1: This world series now with these two bottom tier payrolls,
- 15:51Speaker 1: where they're saying that now a floor is more important
- 15:54Speaker 1: than ever to force owners to spend money instead of
- 15:59Speaker 1: like the salary caps, the salary cap, but all these
- 16:02Speaker 1: teams now, this copycat league that we're in Rossi, all
- 16:05Speaker 1: these teams see this blueprint and they're like, why can't
- 16:08Speaker 1: we do that? Why do we have to be spending?
- 16:09Speaker 1: Why do we have to have a $ 300 million payroll
- 16:12Speaker 1: to do it? the Rays and the Brewers are consistently
- 16:14Speaker 1: doing year in and year out. Let's spend more money
- 16:17Speaker 1: on front office and developing and figuring out how do
- 16:21Speaker 1: we get these guys for cheaper. So I did see
- 16:23Speaker 1: the theory of now a floor is more important than ever.
- 16:26Speaker 1: So again, just adds to the drama of what this
- 16:29Speaker 1: off season is going to bring.
- 16:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:30Speaker 2: If I'm an owner, I mean, that's what I think
- 16:32Speaker 2: I heard Jim Bowden saying it. And I think it
- 16:34Speaker 2: was all the same thing where he's just talking about
- 16:36Speaker 2: what owners should be saying, well, why can't we do this?
- 16:39Speaker 3: Why, you know, It has to do with the people
- 16:42Speaker 3: running it. And what I kind of see.
- 16:47Speaker 2: In this is the player that has real skills in
- 16:52Speaker 2: an area, like the contact skill, the control the strikes on,
- 16:56Speaker 2: the real defensive player that shows up every day and
- 16:59Speaker 2: plays elite-type defense. Like, those guys' values go up because
- 17:03Speaker 2: of what you're seeing. The speed guy. Chandler Simpson, like,
- 17:07Speaker 2: That's the scariest guy I feel like in their lineup.
- 17:11Speaker 2: He can do so many things and put so much pressure.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Two strikes doesn't matter.
- 17:16Speaker 3: Doesn't matter.
- 17:16Speaker 2: And then running the bases, you see some of these
- 17:18Speaker 2: walks with him at second. It's because they're having a
- 17:21Speaker 2: slide step. I'm seeing slide steps with a man on
- 17:23Speaker 2: second from the pitching staff. He just causes havoc, and
- 17:27Speaker 2: you always have to pay attention to him. And then
- 17:29Speaker 2: first and second, him coming up, left on left, everybody
- 17:32Speaker 2: knew he was bunting.
- 17:33Speaker 3: He still was able to lay down a good bunt
- 17:35Speaker 3: and beat it out for bases loaded there early on.
- 17:37Speaker 2: So that guy is an absolute menace. He's just straight
- 17:44Speaker 2: chaos when he gets in the box and on the
- 17:46Speaker 2: bases and a really, really strong player. So those types
- 17:50Speaker 2: of players, I feel like watching these two teams in
- 17:52Speaker 2: the World Series, you're going to get a better version
- 17:56Speaker 2: of baseball moving forward because of the copycat type league
- 17:59Speaker 2: that these guys, that these front offices kind of watch
- 18:01Speaker 2: and look and say, hey, how can we do things
- 18:03Speaker 2: a little bit differently? How can we you know, save
- 18:06Speaker 2: some money in some areas and get a, get a
- 18:08Speaker 2: real baseball player that, you know, maybe high baseball IQ
- 18:13Speaker 2: type player that can help us win. I think that's
- 18:16Speaker 2: going to help the market for guys that usually get underappreciated.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Yeah, no doubt.
- 18:21Speaker 3: Like myself.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I hear you. Nice shirt too, by the way.
- 18:24Speaker 1: What's that say?
- 18:26Speaker 2: Rizzo made me do it. I finally got my marathon
- 18:28Speaker 2: shirt in. It finally got, shout out obvious shirts.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Appreciate it.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Rossi, I feel like with, big markets, right? You've played in,
- 18:39Speaker 1: I feel like every big market except the Yankees. I
- 18:42Speaker 1: played in Chicago and in New York. That style doesn't
- 18:48Speaker 1: play there because you can't, the guys don't have the
- 18:51Speaker 1: runway for failure as much in the bigger markets than
- 18:55Speaker 1: they do in smaller markets. In smaller markets, their expectations
- 18:59Speaker 1: of the fan base are, oh, we're not good this year.
- 19:03Speaker 3: It is what it is.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Red Sox, Yankees, Dodgers, who am I missing here? Cubs.
- 19:11Speaker 3: Mets.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Mets.
- 19:13Speaker 1: That doesn't fly there. So that, I know it's a
- 19:17Speaker 1: copycat league and owners, why wouldn't you want to spend
- 19:21Speaker 1: the least amount of money for the best product you
- 19:23Speaker 1: can get, right? That's just business 101.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Well, I feel like some of the big markets, the
- 19:28Speaker 2: one thing that they could do is kind of cover
- 19:31Speaker 2: up some mistakes or a player that may not pan out.
- 19:33Speaker 2: you know, the smaller markets kind of ride those guys
- 19:36Speaker 2: and let them develop at the big league level and
- 19:37Speaker 2: take their lumps, which is a luxury. Like you said,
- 19:41Speaker 2: I don't know that every market has for sure.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Yeah, it's going to be, I mean, we're celebrating the
- 19:48Speaker 1: world series now and you don't have the thing about
- 19:50Speaker 1: this World Series is, Rossi? There's going to be a
- 19:53Speaker 1: first-time franchise winning the World Series. Tampa's been there twice.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Milwaukee's been there once, I believe, back in like 44
- 20:03Speaker 1: or something. Am I right?
- 20:05Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 20:06Speaker 1: 44 years, something like that. But a first-time franchise winning.
- 20:10Speaker 1: And this is just completely non-biased. Not that I'm from
- 20:14Speaker 1: South Florida. Not that Florida is an absolute baseball factory
- 20:18Speaker 1: sending players to the big leagues at a very high clip.
- 20:21Speaker 1: I think we're the best in the world down in Florida.
- 20:23Speaker 1: I know Texas and California have different views about that.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Completely non-biased. I hope that the championship comes down to
- 20:30Speaker 1: Florida and the Tampa Bay Rays win it. Just non-biased
- 20:34Speaker 1: being from Florida.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Well, I hope so, too, because I'll be right in
- 20:37Speaker 3: my prediction.
- 20:38Speaker 2: I don't know if that'll ever happen, but we'll get
- 20:42Speaker 2: to our predictions another show. We'll have to get to those,
- 20:45Speaker 2: but I am happy for our state. I'm happy for
- 20:48Speaker 2: the city of Tampa and St.
- 20:50Speaker 3: Pete.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Kevin Cash and I go way back, played against each
- 20:54Speaker 2: other in college, and we're teammates in Boston. Super pumped
- 20:58Speaker 2: for him and that organization. That's his hometown. He grew
- 21:01Speaker 2: up in Tampa, so... You know, he pulled all the
- 21:05Speaker 2: right strings this postseason, used that bullpen, mixing and matching.
- 21:09Speaker 2: I mean, he used a ton of relievers. A lot
- 21:12Speaker 2: of guys, the three batter minimum and out, and just
- 21:15Speaker 2: did a phenomenal job.
- 21:16Speaker 3: So, yeah, the Rays are in the World Series.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Congratulations, Kevin Cash. The entire Tampa Bay organization and the
- 21:24Speaker 1: fans enjoy it. I know the first two trips weren't
- 21:27Speaker 1: that great. A little side story, Eric Hinsky, was one
- 21:32Speaker 1: of my, the best coaches I've ever been around, one
- 21:34Speaker 1: of my great friends in baseball, says every time he
- 21:38Speaker 1: used to go to Philadelphia after 09, the fans would
- 21:41Speaker 1: always give him the biggest cheer in Philadelphia because he
- 21:43Speaker 1: made the last out for the Rays in the World Series.
- 21:46Speaker 1: And literally in our chat right now, our producer, Chris Chan,
- 21:51Speaker 1: just typed, made the final out in 08. He's a
- 21:53Speaker 1: big Phillies fan, so.
- 21:56Speaker 3: Oh, man. Shout out. Shout out. Where are we partying
- 21:59Speaker 3: tonight in Tampa? Where's the spot? We got to get
- 22:02Speaker 3: some people to throw that in the chat. I don't know.
- 22:05Speaker 3: There's a couple hangouts in Tampa that I think.
- 22:08Speaker 1: I'll shout out my boy Dante Adan and his spot.
- 22:12Speaker 1: John Boy in. Good night, John Boy in St. Pete.
- 22:17Speaker 1: It's a good spot. And he has a country bar
- 22:20Speaker 1: there as well.
- 22:21Speaker 3: I've been to the one in Chicago. That's the only one.
- 22:23Speaker 3: Good night, John Boy.
- 22:25Speaker 1: We've been there a few times.

- 24:21Speaker 3: He always starts in Tampa. I've been to that one.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Maybe we'll have to have a meeting in Chicago, maybe

- 24:45Speaker 1: Our Tim Buss ball bag questions of the day, where
- 24:49Speaker 1: Rossi and I take all of our fans' questions, comments
- 24:52Speaker 1: from YouTube. You can email us at rossandrizzo at gmail.com
- 24:55Speaker 1: or comment on one of our posts on socials. First
- 24:59Speaker 1: email from Gavin Dow. One of my best memories as
- 25:02Speaker 1: a Cubs fan was Game 4 of the 2015 NLCS.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Not the game itself, but what happened after. Thousands of
- 25:09Speaker 1: fans stayed in their seats and started cheering for the
- 25:13Speaker 1: best season that we'd seen in so long. And we
- 25:17Speaker 1: stayed there until the team came out and acknowledged us.
- 25:20Speaker 1: I know what it felt like as a fan, but
- 25:21Speaker 1: I've always wondered what it was like from the perspective
- 25:23Speaker 1: of players.
- 25:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I remember that moment.
- 25:27Speaker 2: We got it handed to us by the Mets in 15,
- 25:30Speaker 2: and they were the better team at that time. And
- 25:33Speaker 2: I think Daniel Murphy, I think we bring him up
- 25:36Speaker 2: every time we.
- 25:36Speaker 3: Talk about that team. He lives rent-free. Yeah, he does.
- 25:40Speaker 3: He's in our dome, for sure. I remember that moment.
- 25:45Speaker 2: You're kind of pissed because your season's over, so it's
- 25:50Speaker 2: hard to be in a good mood, but I definitely
- 25:55Speaker 2: feel like thinking the fans, and it's a tradition in
- 25:57Speaker 2: Chicago at the end of the season, for sure, but
- 25:59Speaker 2: thinking the fans.
- 26:00Speaker 3: There felt.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Different from other places I had played. And not all
- 26:07Speaker 2: of them, but they've got your back there. It's a
- 26:10Speaker 2: positive fan base for the most part. And you always
- 26:14Speaker 2: felt like that was one of, like he said, one
- 26:17Speaker 2: of the better seasons that they had seen in a
- 26:20Speaker 2: long time. And we felt that. It sucks when you lose,
- 26:23Speaker 2: and it's hard to be in a good mood appreciation.
- 26:28Speaker 2: So you just kind of go out there and thank them,
- 26:30Speaker 2: and then you kind of head it in is how
- 26:32Speaker 2: I remember it.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I always think it's so cool. Obviously, you want
- 26:37Speaker 1: to win the last game. And that year we were
- 26:38Speaker 1: heartbroken losing to the Mets the way we did, especially
- 26:42Speaker 1: just everything we built in 2015. So the fact that
- 26:47Speaker 1: pretty much the whole stadium was still there and we
- 26:49Speaker 1: came out and got to salute the fans was really
- 26:51Speaker 1: cool because they appreciated it. They were there the years
- 26:56Speaker 1: prior when we were losing 100 games, Rossi. I know
- 26:58Speaker 1: you weren't. You're, you know, Ricky Bobby, you want to win,
- 27:01Speaker 1: put Ricky Bobby in. or boobie miles in. Um, but yeah,
- 27:08Speaker 1: it was a really cool moment. Definitely for me.
- 27:10Speaker 2: Just so I think I remember them coming and getting
- 27:12Speaker 2: us out of the, we were on our way down
- 27:14Speaker 2: the cave and.
- 27:14Speaker 1: They just said, Hey, all the fans are still here.
- 27:17Speaker 3: Don't worry. You guys go out. So that was, that was.
- 27:19Speaker 1: A really cool moment. Yeah.
- 27:21Speaker 3: Email.
- 27:21Speaker 1: Are you sure that Gavin.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Email from Alex Warda as someone who works at Wrigley field,
- 27:29Speaker 2: what's your favorite spot at Wrigley that most fans would
- 27:31Speaker 2: never get to see? Ooh, let me go first on this.
- 27:37Speaker 2: I think the first one pops up in my head. Man,
- 27:41Speaker 2: there's so many spots that I feel like I love.
- 27:44Speaker 5: And I'll say I miss this when I miss the
- 27:50Speaker 5: old dugouts because I had a little perch up just
- 27:55Speaker 5: next to the middle steps that I sat at to watch.
- 27:59Speaker 3: When I didn't play, which was 90% of the time.
- 28:01Speaker 2: And It was, I had a view, I had Ski
- 28:07Speaker 2: right next to me, I had Hyder when we were
- 28:10Speaker 2: on defense standing next to me working the outfielders and
- 28:14Speaker 2: like Cesar or Lester or Lackey or somebody would come
- 28:16Speaker 2: sit next to me.
- 28:17Speaker 3: Like that, I miss, that was a really cool spot.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Up on top of those, whatever that little ledge was
- 28:24Speaker 2: there and the old dugouts. And I know everybody blasts
- 28:27Speaker 2: the old dugouts and how shitty they were, but Like,
- 28:29Speaker 2: when I was there, like, that was like our own
- 28:32Speaker 2: little party scene down there. Like, everybody was dancing and
- 28:35Speaker 2: bumping into each other. And, you know, the stars were
- 28:39Speaker 2: kind of crammed up against the bench. And all the
- 28:41Speaker 2: coaches were up against the wall. I just missed that
- 28:44Speaker 2: dugout and especially that perch up there to watch those games.
- 28:47Speaker 3: Got a lot of good memories from up there.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:50Speaker 1: I loved it. And the old clubhouse, too, I loved.
- 28:52Speaker 1: The old clubhouse, we had this tiny room. It was
- 28:54Speaker 1: the players' lounge where that's the only place– You can
- 28:57Speaker 1: go to get out of the locker room, and you
- 29:00Speaker 1: literally were on top of each other at all times.
- 29:03Speaker 1: I love it.
- 29:04Speaker 2: Travis Wood would bring in, like, after batting practice, Travis
- 29:07Speaker 2: Wood would bring in those big 10-packs of Taco Bell boxes,
- 29:11Speaker 2: or Lester would get Popeyes, and we'd get in there
- 29:15Speaker 2: just absolutely crazy.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Oh, easy on Lester and the Popeyes.
- 29:18Speaker 3: Yeah, we were sensitive.
- 29:20Speaker 2: McDonald's.
- 29:20Speaker 3: Okay, Mickey D.
- 29:23Speaker 1: My favorite spot, now that I'm not playing... has to
- 29:28Speaker 1: be Mr.
- 29:29Speaker 3: Ricketts' suite.
- 29:31Speaker 1: I mean, he has a beautiful, it's like all bricks
- 29:35Speaker 1: in there. They've done it up with old memorabilia.
- 29:38Speaker 3: It's wide, it's big.
- 29:40Speaker 1: It fits your whole family. Plus like, I think it
- 29:42Speaker 1: fits up to 50, 60 people, the best view of
- 29:46Speaker 1: the park. Um, so really special to be in there
- 29:50Speaker 1: a few times this past year, but on the inside
- 29:53Speaker 1: and the clubhouse, um, I think the training room, if
- 29:57Speaker 1: you got to experience the training room and see everything
- 30:00Speaker 1: that's available to the players and all the cutting edge
- 30:04Speaker 1: technology and what goes into pregame and postgame, I think
- 30:10Speaker 1: you'd be really just intrigued by all of it and
- 30:15Speaker 1: be almost blown away because there are so many gadgets
- 30:18Speaker 1: in that training room that we have access to when
- 30:20Speaker 1: it comes to recovery, prehab, rehab, anything, you name it.
- 30:24Speaker 1: We have cold tubs, hot tubs, saunas, float tanks that
- 30:27Speaker 1: regularly have the cryo tank. They have this red light bed.
- 30:29Speaker 1: Now nap room, like you name it. The training room
- 30:34Speaker 1: has salt pot.
- 30:37Speaker 2: Well, I would, one of my first things that came
- 30:38Speaker 2: to my mind when I managed, I would cold, cold
- 30:41Speaker 2: plunge every day and I would get in that, that
- 30:43Speaker 2: cold tub there.
- 30:44Speaker 3: And it was like, it was absolutely freezing, but I
- 30:47Speaker 3: used to go in there.
- 30:48Speaker 2: One of the first ones that was like my, my
- 30:50Speaker 2: starting routine when I would get to the, to the
- 30:52Speaker 2: field is go in there and just, get a nice
- 30:54Speaker 2: cold plunge in the cold tub for about three to
- 30:59Speaker 2: five minutes. And that was one of the first things
- 31:01Speaker 2: that popped in my mind, but I didn't think fans
- 31:02Speaker 2: wanted to hear about that.
- 31:03Speaker 3: But you're right. That is a sick training. The training
- 31:05Speaker 3: room and weight room at Wrigley, I think, is just
- 31:07Speaker 3: top notch. It's pretty impressive.
- 31:09Speaker 2: No doubt.
- 31:10Speaker 3: All right. Last one.
- 31:12Speaker 2: Email from Amy Green from Knoxville, Tennessee. Revisiting a miserable moment.
- 31:18Speaker 2: Sometimes I think home runs are rally killers. Do you
- 31:22Speaker 2: think it would have been harder if Rajay had hit
- 31:25Speaker 2: a double off the wall instead of a home run
- 31:27Speaker 2: in game seven. Now the tying runs on base and
- 31:31Speaker 2: the rally continues. After the home run, yes, you're stunned,
- 31:34Speaker 2: but everything stops. You regroup and you go on to
- 31:37Speaker 2: the next guy. I always wanted to ask Joe, but
- 31:40Speaker 2: would like to ask you guys, get you guys' take.
- 31:44Speaker 1: Well, Amy, that home run by Rajay, I saw Roger
- 31:49Speaker 1: pop up my feed about he was talking about stealing
- 31:52Speaker 1: bases literally today. And I got like, ah!
- 31:59Speaker 2: Ah!
- 32:00Speaker 1: So, if he would have hit a double, it would
- 32:03Speaker 1: have been so much easier as long as the outcome
- 32:05Speaker 1: was still the same. It's crazy that we won the
- 32:11Speaker 1: World Series and 10 years later that home run still
- 32:13Speaker 1: haunts us as Cubs players, Cubs fans, and we won
- 32:16Speaker 1: the game. That's how big of a world series that
- 32:19Speaker 1: was that's how big of a home run that was
- 32:21Speaker 1: for rajay the whole like bro do you remember how
- 32:26Speaker 1: loud that stadium was rossi.
- 32:28Speaker 2: When he hit that home run it was shaking it
- 32:30Speaker 2: was shaking i'll never forget lebron on the screen flexing
- 32:33Speaker 2: on everybody like i i'm i'm with you amy like
- 32:36Speaker 2: the the the home run can be a rally killer
- 32:39Speaker 2: i get it like it kind of you know but
- 32:42Speaker 2: Not that one.
- 32:45Speaker 3: That one. You don't want that.
- 32:47Speaker 2: I wish it would have been a double off the
- 32:48Speaker 2: wall because I think we would have got out of
- 32:51Speaker 2: that thing. But, yeah, not that one.
- 32:56Speaker 3: Not that one, Amy. Good question. Great question. Thank you, Amy.
- 32:59Speaker 1: Hey, being from Tennessee, this is a completely side note,
- 33:02Speaker 1: so stick with me here. Now that I'm a runner, Rossi,
- 33:05Speaker 1: I ran a marathon. I don't know if anyone knew
- 33:07Speaker 1: that talking here, but eight days ago I ran a
- 33:10Speaker 1: Chicago marathon. It's not about me. Bro, there's this event
- 33:15Speaker 1: going on right now. I get targeted now, all this
- 33:17Speaker 1: running stuff. It's called the Backyard Ultra. And what it is, Rossi,
- 33:23Speaker 1: it's the whole world's competing, like all nations. 15 runners
- 33:27Speaker 1: from each nation that's competing. They do a 4.1 mile
- 33:32Speaker 1: loop and they repeat it. There's no finish. So they
- 33:37Speaker 1: do the 4.1 mile loop and they do it on
- 33:40Speaker 1: the hour every hour. So if you run in 40 minutes,
- 33:44Speaker 1: you have 20 minutes of rest for 24 hours straight
- 33:48Speaker 1: until the last man is standing.
- 33:52Speaker 3: Oh my gosh.
- 33:53Speaker 1: They're on day, they're going on day three. This is
- 33:56Speaker 1: night three right now.
- 33:59Speaker 3: Until somebody just, until somebody, until you're the last guy.
- 34:02Speaker 1: Until the teams, until the teams like fade. Yeah, so.
- 34:06Speaker 3: It's crazy.
- 34:08Speaker 1: I'm following along on it. I'm like, dude, these guys
- 34:10Speaker 1: are insane. They're losing their minds. They're literally running on,
- 34:14Speaker 1: they sleep for like four minutes at a time and
- 34:16Speaker 1: then the hour.
- 34:16Speaker 3: I can't even understand that. I can't even, I can't
- 34:18Speaker 3: even fathom that.
- 34:19Speaker 1: Impressive, bro.
- 34:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:20Speaker 1: Backyard.
- 34:21Speaker 2: I don't have the mental, I don't, I know I'm
- 34:23Speaker 2: not mentally tough enough to do anything like that.
- 34:26Speaker 3: Not even close.
- 34:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:27Speaker 3: Like, yeah, I couldn't sign up for that.
- 34:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:30Speaker 3: I would get PTSD from signing up.
- 34:32Speaker 1: They're, they're, the team USA is doing it in somewhere
- 34:35Speaker 1: in Tennessee, but. Anyways, Rossi, again, this has been so
- 34:38Speaker 1: much fun. Thank you, everyone, for watching, listening. Please send
- 34:42Speaker 1: in your comments. Send in your emails. Reply to us
- 34:46Speaker 1: on our socials, rossinrizzo at gmail.com. We are trying to
- 34:50Speaker 1: answer all your questions. It's our favorite part of the show.
- 34:54Speaker 1: And we also love talking the game of baseball. So
- 34:56Speaker 1: congratulations to the Tampa Bay Rays, the Milwaukee Brewers. Game
- 35:00Speaker 1: one of the World Series is on Friday, Rossi. Cannot wait.
- 35:05Speaker 1: We'll be coming.
- 35:06Speaker 2: Let's go.
- 35:06Speaker 1: To you for a few episodes during the week. Maybe
- 35:09Speaker 1: we'll talk about some stuff that's going on around the league,
- 35:13Speaker 1: but man, we cannot wait till Friday. Rizzo Ross.
