- 0:02How do we typically respond to the situations that we need in
- 0:05the world? We want to fulfill our desires,
- 0:10have our wishes and ideas carried out and have a modicum
- 0:14of control in our lives. When things do not go.
- 0:19As we wish, we become frustrated angry, resentful or otherwise
- 0:25upset on the other side when we get what we are seeking.
- 0:30We experience, Happiness, joy and enthusiastic participation
- 0:38many have pointed out that neither Joy nor sorrow positive,
- 0:42or negative events or circumstances.
- 0:45Are always present. but that they tend to ebb and flow and
- 0:52interchange with one another so that every life meets with its
- 0:58ups and it's Downs in the course of life, In a world of
- 1:03uncertainty, our comfortable lives can be easily upset by War
- 1:09storms, economic disruptions or hostile acts perpetrated upon us
- 1:16where those with whom we are connected.
- 1:19To borrow from the author, Charles Dickens in A Tale of Two
- 1:22Cities. It was the best of times, it was
- 1:27the worst of times. The same holds true for the
- 1:31yogic practitioner who sometimes has outstanding experiences and
- 1:37at other times meets with intense opposition and conflict.
- 1:44There is such a high level of violence in the world, because
- 1:47Humanity has not learned how to deal with the issues that
- 1:50confront us everyday. Domestic violence.
- 1:54Road, rage temper tantrums and angry outbursts are all part of
- 2:00the daily life for many people and hardly given a second
- 2:04thought when things we perceive as positive happen ecstatic
- 2:10Outburst of Joy can occur. Philosophers throughout history,
- 2:14have raised the issue and some such as the stoics, have
- 2:19counseled maintaining an even temper in all circumstances.
- 2:24Others tell us to hold back. Our outbursts and restrain our
- 2:27desires and our anger. Those who attempt this approach
- 2:32frequently find that they are not solving the reaction but
- 2:36bottling it up. Suppressing it with sometimes
- 2:40negative impacts on their health and well-being including high,
- 2:44blood pressure, ulcers, Etc, SRI aurobindo and the mother counsel
- 2:51that the needed poised. For the yogi name is to maintain
- 2:55a state of inner peace and equality to all the touches
- 2:59positive and negative. Give that one experiences in
- 3:02life. This is not an outward
- 3:05suppression of reactions that are then allowed to boil
- 3:08inwardly, but a true solving of the reactive nature such that
- 3:14there is neither an external Outburst nor an inner seething
- 3:18that builds up. Anyone who has attempted, this
- 3:22will easily recognize the difficulty involved in this
- 3:26accomplishment. It is a first foundation for
- 3:29yoga growth and development and require substantial inner
- 3:34awareness to maintain. Calm people generally tend to
- 3:38see strength in the use of Brute Force, both physically, and
- 3:41psychologically. Yet in many cases, this comes as
- 3:46a result of the inner weakness. True strength lies in the
- 3:50ability to not let the touches of Life.
- 3:53Negatively impact the psychological balance of the
- 3:57nature. You are distract from the focus
- 3:59of life. SRI, aurobindo observes, quote.
- 4:05Equality means a quiet and unmoved mind and vital, it means
- 4:10not to be touched or disturbed by things that happen or things
- 4:14said or done to you. But to look at them with a
- 4:17straight, look free from the distortions, created by personal
- 4:21feeling and to try to understand what is behind them.
- 4:26Why they happen, what is to be learned from them, what is it in
- 4:30oneself, which they are Are cast against and what inner profit or
- 4:35progress when can make out of them.
- 4:38It means self Mastery over the vital movements.
- 4:42Anger and sensitiveness and pride, as well as desire on the
- 4:46rest. Not to let them get hold of the
- 4:49emotional being and disturb the inner peace not to speak and act
- 4:54in the rush and impulsion of these things always to act and
- 4:59speak out of a calm in her Poise of the spirit.
- 5:05It is not easy to have this equality in any full perfect
- 5:08measure. But one should always try more
- 5:11and more to make it the basis of one's inner State and outer
- 5:16movement and quote, Reference SRI aurobindo and the mother
