- 0:00Speaker 1: Four Finger Discount.
- 0:01Speaker 2: Dude, it's the season nineteen review here at four finger Discount.
- 0:21Speaker 2: That's right, we've got through nineteen seasons of The Simpsons.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Don't think we'd ever do it, but we've done it.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Mister Davis, How are you doing?
- 0:26Speaker 3: I'm doing well. I'm guy. He's damned shake out the intro.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Shake it. You keep me on my toes, which is
- 0:32Speaker 3: at my advanced age, is not something I.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Should be doing, if could ever do ballet toes.
- 0:36Speaker 3: No. I mean, you look at ballet dancers and particularly
- 0:39Speaker 3: like the real elite ones, and you'll occasionally, you know,
- 0:42Speaker 3: some kinky photographer will show on, like doing really weird
- 0:45Speaker 3: shit with their feet and like how much low bearing
- 0:48Speaker 3: is on their little pinky toes.
- 0:50Speaker 2: It's like, goddamn, well, they never look happy.
- 0:52Speaker 3: No, they're well. As per an episode of season nineteen,
- 0:56Speaker 3: they've always look painfully thin, and they've always got a
- 0:59Speaker 3: darting their mouth.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Yes, they which actually it was kind of cool, so
- 1:04Speaker 2: good for them.
- 1:05Speaker 3: But no, I could not ballet dance. I could not
- 1:07Speaker 3: watch it.
- 1:08Speaker 2: I can't dance. When I was a teenager, I got
- 1:11Speaker 2: the white guy danced down to a pat but actual
- 1:14Speaker 2: dance moves now.
- 1:15Speaker 3: No, No, I mean I dance very enthusiastically, and I
- 1:18Speaker 3: think that is probably what do they say, ninety percent
- 1:20Speaker 3: of success is showing up? Yeah, dancing quote unquote, well
- 1:27Speaker 3: is just getting on the dance floor. You've said frequently
- 1:29Speaker 3: that you tried to be the first one on the
- 1:31Speaker 3: dance Oh, get up there.
- 1:32Speaker 2: I'm not going to be dancing well, but I see
- 1:34Speaker 2: I'm the guy that go, oh, well, if he can
- 1:36Speaker 2: do that up there, I can. I can gude there
- 1:37Speaker 2: as well.
- 1:38Speaker 3: I don't dance terribly, but I don't dance formally. I
- 1:42Speaker 3: mean I've had people, well, go can dance. It's like
- 1:46Speaker 3: I can't really, but I don't. Yeah, but I do.
- 1:50Speaker 3: There are a few things in life I do with
- 1:52Speaker 3: conviction and confidence, very few things but dancing, and it's
- 1:57Speaker 3: usually not I've had a few drinks, it doesn't really count.
- 1:59Speaker 3: But when I'm in the mood to dance.
- 2:01Speaker 2: I've seen you at the Pop Culture Christmas party. Oh yeah,
- 2:03Speaker 2: I will go in a full throttle. I remember you
- 2:05Speaker 2: get up on stage, you had your glasses on, You're
- 2:07Speaker 2: seeing some song.
- 2:08Speaker 3: I was ship face drunk.
- 2:10Speaker 2: It's a good time, yes, good times, But what else
- 2:13Speaker 2: was a good time? Season nineteen. Overall, I thought we.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Came in like we were the South Park people going
- 2:20Speaker 3: to ask and it's like we might be having a
- 2:22Speaker 3: bad time. We turned out we had.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Pretty good time. Yeah, so as you'll be well away now.
- 2:27Speaker 2: The way these season reviews work is I give my
- 2:30Speaker 2: I try and predict guys top five, he tries to
- 2:33Speaker 2: predict mine, and then we run through and see how
- 2:34Speaker 2: much we know each other.
- 2:35Speaker 3: We realize we don't know each other at all, despite
- 2:37Speaker 3: having done the show for many years.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Now, I feel like you may have teased something before.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Well I felt might have changed. I won't change it.
- 2:43Speaker 2: I've picked my five, but I feel like you may
- 2:45Speaker 2: have suck an episode in there that I didn't think
- 2:47Speaker 2: you might have. But we'll get there. You mentioned cigarettes before.
- 2:51Speaker 3: That's true, that's wholly unrelated.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Okay, on a different topic, I don't know what you're
- 2:58Speaker 2: doing about. We'll also get some of your questions at
- 3:00Speaker 2: the end as well, but I'm going to predict what
- 3:02Speaker 2: I think your top five in no particular order. Okay,
- 3:04Speaker 2: all right, I reckon you've gotten yours. Any given Sundance
- 3:08Speaker 2: Apocalypse cow Papa, don't leach the departed, maybe actually know
- 3:12Speaker 2: you hated the button that ninety show lit the buttered out,
- 3:15Speaker 2: and we'll change that with Smoke on the Daughter. I'll
- 3:19Speaker 2: throw that one in there. Okay, the debart, so that
- 3:21Speaker 2: ninety show, Smoke on the Daughter, Papa Don't Leach, Apocalypse Cow,
- 3:23Speaker 2: and any given sundance. What do you think My top.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Five are in descending or ascending order, but starting with
- 3:30Speaker 3: five and going to one, so that's descending.
- 3:31Speaker 2: All are you going in order?
- 3:32Speaker 3: Wow? I've actually put numbers on it this time. Yeah. Well,
- 3:34Speaker 3: I'm going the extra man because I'm sick of you
- 3:37Speaker 3: looking at me when I come to these things. Come Oh,
- 3:39Speaker 3: you're unprepared. You have not underprepared you or just unprepared. No, No,
- 3:45Speaker 3: I put numbers on this time, but in descending order,
- 3:49Speaker 3: from five to one, on five to one. Okay, okay,
- 3:51Speaker 3: I've got for you. I think you like dial In
- 3:54Speaker 3: for Murder, that ninety show, Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson's Mind,
- 4:00Speaker 3: and the Debated, and Papa Don't Leech. Okay, all right,
- 4:04Speaker 3: all right, how are we going to do this?
- 4:06Speaker 2: I will start with my number five? Okay, then actually, no,
- 4:09Speaker 2: let's start with the worst episode and then we'll say
- 4:12Speaker 2: we'll tease that for the end, we'll tease what we
- 4:14Speaker 2: think were the worst episode of the season.
- 4:15Speaker 1: But this is the worst project.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Because I think everyone and their and their dog knows
- 4:23Speaker 3: what I hope.
- 4:24Speaker 2: So anyway, because I think the episode I've picked is
- 4:26Speaker 2: pretty bad, I.
- 4:28Speaker 3: Think the one I think is pretty bad. It's pretty bad.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Okay, well my number five, it's not one that you picked,
- 4:33Speaker 2: all right, And I think this was the surprise of
- 4:36Speaker 2: the season for me overall. Went through them all.
- 4:37Speaker 3: It's like I haven't known you all my leafe.
- 4:39Speaker 2: It's the episode that I thought. I just did not
- 4:41Speaker 2: expect this to be as good. I didn't expect to
- 4:44Speaker 2: enjoy as I'm not saying it's a great episode, but
- 4:45Speaker 2: I personally enjoyed a lot more than I thought I
- 4:47Speaker 2: was going to, particularly because the A plot was good
- 4:49Speaker 2: and the B plot was also very relatable for me.
- 4:51Speaker 2: And It's midnight towboy.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Right it was. It was in the maybe list, Yeah, yes,
- 4:59Speaker 3: I remember you could. I was almost going to put
- 5:00Speaker 3: this in for one that I enjoyed as well.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Matt Dylan was really good as Louis. Matt Dylan was
- 5:05Speaker 2: great Home. We always like it when Home is really
- 5:07Speaker 2: good at his job, and the only thing that sort
- 5:09Speaker 2: of held it back a bit for me was that
- 5:11Speaker 2: the town goes into disarray because Home's not towing cars anymore.
- 5:14Speaker 2: I always everyone something happens and everyone's towing cars, right,
- 5:18Speaker 2: And then there's no sort of wrap up for that story.
- 5:21Speaker 2: I thought, just sort of at the end, sort of
- 5:23Speaker 2: trailed off a bit, got a bit wacky towards the end,
- 5:25Speaker 2: but I thought for ninety five percent of the story
- 5:27Speaker 2: was really good. And the B plot I mentioned before
- 5:29Speaker 2: was Marge and Maggie the child independent story B plot,
- 5:34Speaker 2: which is something that I'm sort of going through at
- 5:36Speaker 2: the moment where my kids are getting four and six,
- 5:37Speaker 2: they're getting of age where they could start looking after themselves,
- 5:39Speaker 2: and sort of the fear of oh, oh yes, A,
- 5:42Speaker 2: you probably won't need me as much anymore, and B
- 5:44Speaker 2: will you want to play and hang around hang out
- 5:46Speaker 2: with me anymore? Because Alie still want to kick the
- 5:48Speaker 2: footy with me. They're kicking the footy with him on
- 5:49Speaker 2: the weekend. But there will come a point where he'll go,
- 5:51Speaker 2: I'm going to my mate's place, and you don'tant to
- 5:53Speaker 2: keep no, no, I'm going to Jerry's house. Okay, ah, okay,
- 5:57Speaker 2: you don't want to hang out with your dad anymore, Jerry.
- 6:00Speaker 3: That gets trouble. When I was thinking about Midnight Toe Boy,
- 6:06Speaker 3: it was particularly that b plot that I figured you
- 6:08Speaker 3: related because well you are and you know the best
- 6:11Speaker 3: dad in the Geelong area.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Well that's got a story, right, a wholesome story. So
- 6:17Speaker 2: I had the kids Saturday night. Nicola when out for
- 6:19Speaker 2: dinner and drinks with a friend of one of her
- 6:21Speaker 2: friend's birthdays, and Holly had fallen asleep watching that what's
- 6:25Speaker 2: it called Hube It's called.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Hub Halloween and Saandla Halloween movie on Netflix.
- 6:28Speaker 2: They got fifteen minutes in and they fallen asleep, or
- 6:30Speaker 2: Holly fallen asleep. So Holly went to bed. So we
- 6:33Speaker 2: probably shoudn't keep watching the mat because Holly will want
- 6:35Speaker 2: to watch it. So you see, can We watched The
- 6:36Speaker 2: Girl's Footy al it loves the girls footy, so we're
- 6:38Speaker 2: watching it, and then it got to like nine o'clock
- 6:40Speaker 2: and I went, mate, you've really got to go to bed
- 6:42Speaker 2: right and go.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Okay, I'm sorry to this drag, but I'm just we've
- 6:47Speaker 3: created him month because now I'm here. His name is
- 6:49Speaker 3: Elliott he loves the girl's food.
- 6:51Speaker 2: But he goes to bed and every like ten minutes
- 6:55Speaker 2: he's coming out, going what's the scool, what's the school?
- 6:57Speaker 2: He can't sleep, And then he started getting a near
- 7:00Speaker 2: affectionate a bit of a story. So he came out
- 7:01Speaker 2: and had some pad at all, and I said, you
- 7:03Speaker 2: can watch footy for ten moments and you have to
- 7:04Speaker 2: go to bed. And I thought, I know what I'd do.
- 7:06Speaker 2: I set up the foxtail app on his iPad. And
- 7:09Speaker 2: they never allowed to use the iPads unless it's very rare,
- 7:12Speaker 2: especially right. I set up on his app on his iPad.
- 7:16Speaker 2: I put it so it's time to bed, and he's like, okay.
- 7:19Speaker 2: They handed in the iPad and it had the fox
- 7:21Speaker 2: to up. His eyes lit up and he's like, can
- 7:23Speaker 2: I watch you in bed? I said, you can put
- 7:25Speaker 2: it on your desk and you watch it to the
- 7:26Speaker 2: end of the game. You got to turn it off
- 7:27Speaker 2: for gears, okay. And he runs into his bedroom and
- 7:29Speaker 2: I start. I said, I'm going to be in my
- 7:30Speaker 2: office editing, okay, and he goes yeap, so walking here
- 7:32Speaker 2: to start editing, and about five Secondslater he was running
- 7:35Speaker 2: out of his bedroom just gives his massive cart and
- 7:36Speaker 2: he goes, You're the best dad ever. And I was like, ah, y,
- 7:40Speaker 2: that is very hard. I was like, he went, he went,
- 7:43Speaker 2: he left, and he went. Now I'm coming back to
- 7:44Speaker 2: him another cuddle.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Ah, what a sweet lad and what a good dad.
- 7:49Speaker 3: That's a very sweet story.
- 7:51Speaker 2: But it's but the b plot. So I'm finding it.
- 7:52Speaker 2: I found it very relatable. I find the ones where
- 7:55Speaker 2: the kids and the parents at odds with each other
- 7:57Speaker 2: more alaienable than I did when I was a kid.
- 7:59Speaker 3: Off here well yeah, I mean I think Maggie, stuff
- 8:01Speaker 3: like this is maybe you can do it with all
- 8:03Speaker 3: the kids, but it's tough for the senses because you know,
- 8:06Speaker 3: as we tend to say, retains the status quo. Things
- 8:10Speaker 3: remain the same as I always do. So yeah, it's
- 8:11Speaker 3: hard to have stories where, oh the kids are growing up,
- 8:15Speaker 3: all the cats and the cradle stuff. So on the
- 8:18Speaker 3: occasion when you can do that and do it well
- 8:20Speaker 3: as I think they did in Midnight Towboy, yeah, it's
- 8:23Speaker 3: gonna make an impression, particularly with good parents like yourself.
- 8:27Speaker 2: It could have even been higher on my list. It's
- 8:29Speaker 2: just the ending was a little bit off for me.
- 8:31Speaker 2: So yeah, Number five was Midnight Towboy. What about your
- 8:33Speaker 2: number five?
- 8:34Speaker 3: My number five is funeral for a fiend?
- 8:39Speaker 2: Included this one.
- 8:40Speaker 3: I did. I did because well, we also we do
- 8:44Speaker 3: a show here on the four finger disc and network
- 8:46Speaker 3: called TV launch Pod. We talked about both Cheers and
- 8:48Speaker 3: Frasier I believe, and it's.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Coming back to your free fees in the better months time,
- 8:53Speaker 2: in a better months time once.
- 8:54Speaker 3: We've got so many projects going on that we're doing
- 8:58Speaker 3: a lot of juggling, and neither of us are very
- 8:59Speaker 3: good juggling.
- 9:00Speaker 2: We're doing exclusive episodes for Patreon at the moment.
- 9:02Speaker 3: Yea correct, correct, But doing both the Cheers pilot and
- 9:07Speaker 3: the Fraser pilot was remindeds like these are really good shows,
- 9:11Speaker 3: particularly Fraser with its dynamic of Kelsey Grammer, David Hypiers
- 9:15Speaker 3: and John Mahoney.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Because John Mahoney was in this one, was you know
- 9:18Speaker 2: he was?
- 9:18Speaker 3: Indeed, Yeah, he made his sole appearance in the Simpsons,
- 9:23Speaker 3: as as the to Williga Dad up up to Willigang.
- 9:26Speaker 3: So I was very happy to have all of those together.
- 9:29Speaker 2: I just like the nice Fraser reunion. Yeah, the fra
- 9:31Speaker 2: you would have said been on TV at this point, right, Oh,
- 9:34Speaker 2: I know finished in two thousand and four, didn't.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Yeah, and this was two thousand and so. Yeah, a
- 9:38Speaker 3: nice bit of they put the band back together. Yeah,
- 9:42Speaker 3: I don't mind it. Yeah, a such a Bob episode
- 9:45Speaker 3: can sometimes be Look, we're going over old ground. He
- 9:49Speaker 3: wants to go Bart again. Oh there's a bit of
- 9:51Speaker 3: you know, I.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Remember to set up being a bit wacky for my liking.
- 9:54Speaker 2: He put he created this ad for this fake place
- 9:57Speaker 2: for the Simpsons to find the ad and then go
- 9:59Speaker 2: to this fake place. And I was like, what if
- 10:00Speaker 2: they want watching the TV?
- 10:02Speaker 3: I think if I think, if you're partial to pick
- 10:04Speaker 3: and knits, there's probably not going to be one of
- 10:06Speaker 3: your That's fine. I liked all the even if the
- 10:11Speaker 3: overall structure was a little bit flimsy and a little
- 10:13Speaker 3: bit Jerry built everything within it in the interior design
- 10:16Speaker 3: and the decoration was am I liking was.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Always fun as well.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Kelsey Gramma always found as well. Apparently I've started listening
- 10:25Speaker 3: to there's the Team Coco sort of network of podcasts,
- 10:31Speaker 3: not dis similar to the full finger discann network, one
- 10:33Speaker 3: might add. And they've got one with Ted Dance and
- 10:35Speaker 3: Woody Harrelson. I think it's Ted Dancing mostly and occasionally
- 10:38Speaker 3: Woody Harrelson. But he's getting some really great guests on.
- 10:41Speaker 3: I mean I listened to it's.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Just celebrities talking about to other celebrities about the same stories.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Now that's all podcasts. They really are just reminiscing. But
- 10:47Speaker 2: if it's people that I like, it's like, I'll tolerate this,
- 10:49Speaker 2: But I just feel like it's the same guest on
- 10:50Speaker 2: everyone else's show to on the same stories. Podcasting is
- 10:53Speaker 2: just it's just the same ship.
- 10:57Speaker 3: Is there any room in there for then? I asked
- 10:59Speaker 3: you once, I don't know why I was doing the accent,
- 11:03Speaker 3: why why are you're not giving? But who they have on?
- 11:09Speaker 3: Oh but apparently Ted Dance and made some quote unquote
- 11:13Speaker 3: confession and it's like, oh, I've got into an argument
- 11:16Speaker 3: with Kelsey Grammar on the set of Cheers and we
- 11:19Speaker 3: didn't really talk for like ten years, and I really
- 11:21Speaker 3: regret that. Oh wow, Yeah, but apparently they've sort of
- 11:23Speaker 3: rebuilt some bridges now. But I can imagine those two
- 11:26Speaker 3: sort of like, yeah, we're not quite on the same
- 11:28Speaker 3: wave length, And you know it's not good.
- 11:30Speaker 2: He's an alpha, isn't he?
- 11:31Speaker 3: I think, so it's not going to really disrupt my
- 11:33Speaker 3: life too much of I don't have this person in
- 11:34Speaker 3: my life and he's a bit older, and you realize
- 11:37Speaker 3: that was kind of stupid.
- 11:38Speaker 2: I feel like Kelsey's an intellectual alpha.
- 11:41Speaker 3: I think he's might not even ah, I'm not going
- 11:44Speaker 3: to disparage his intellect or anything like that. I think
- 11:46Speaker 3: he tries to project that sort of thing as well.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Although I said, I mean, I remember I got his
- 11:52Speaker 3: autobiography and on the back of it, as in the
- 11:54Speaker 3: picture of picture with him with his car, it's like
- 11:56Speaker 3: this vintage California Corvette with like personalized license saying the
- 12:00Speaker 3: Kels don't have your upreading proost so having a sniffer
- 12:05Speaker 3: of brandy, I think you're kind of go it. Probably
- 12:08Speaker 3: likes to go down too, like a bar in Maliburu
- 12:10Speaker 3: and pick up some blonde chick. Hey, more power to you. Yeah,
- 12:15Speaker 3: but funeral Roffine. That's my number five.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Alrightly, My number four is one that I'm certain you're
- 12:20Speaker 2: gonna have on your list. And if you do, just
- 12:21Speaker 2: say now it's any given sundance, it's on your list
- 12:23Speaker 2: at all.
- 12:23Speaker 3: It's on my list.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Yes, I've got on my list as well. My number
- 12:27Speaker 2: fourka I didn't have it on. I didn't have it
- 12:28Speaker 2: for you, okay, yeah, no, yeah, it's fine. So we
- 12:30Speaker 2: can both discuss it, all right, So yeah, why else
- 12:33Speaker 2: are we here?
- 12:34Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 12:34Speaker 2: I know, but let's let's discuss what we both loved
- 12:36Speaker 2: about it now. So where did you have it on? Yours?
- 12:39Speaker 3: I had it as number four and before one and.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Before as well. There we go.
- 12:42Speaker 3: Ye, we do know each other.
- 12:44Speaker 2: So this was the episode for film nerds, and I
- 12:47Speaker 2: think it was done in such a way where they
- 12:49Speaker 2: were able to take the mickey out of film festivals
- 12:51Speaker 2: will also pay tribute to them. Yeah, it didn't feel
- 12:54Speaker 2: like you were mocking them. It felt like, oh yeah,
- 12:56Speaker 2: that's you're right. It's almost like a center commedian you
- 12:58Speaker 2: can relate to going yeah he got me, yeah, yeah yeah.
- 13:01Speaker 3: As I've done this many times whenever I see like
- 13:03Speaker 3: a like a cartoon about a podcast or something whatever.
- 13:07Speaker 3: There was one the other day which was you've got
- 13:10Speaker 3: some very guy looking gentleman saying, yeah, my podcast is
- 13:16Speaker 3: me and my maid talking about movies. The catches though
- 13:18Speaker 3: we often joke around.
- 13:20Speaker 1: It's like oh shit, you got my number.
- 13:25Speaker 3: Yeah, but any given something that like I keep forgetting
- 13:28Speaker 3: the title of the one that's got my guys in.
- 13:30Speaker 1: A shape bone friend zone.
- 13:32Speaker 3: But that the that's the literary festival.
- 13:35Speaker 2: That's right, Yes, that was last season, I think. Yeah, yeah,
- 13:38Speaker 2: this is a yeah, the film festival. That's when most
- 13:41Speaker 2: of the right and releases. That's Forum or something.
- 13:44Speaker 3: So yeah, yeah, but again they're like, these people have
- 13:48Speaker 3: often got their heads up their own ass, but in
- 13:50Speaker 3: kind of an endearing way.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Got a great guest appearance from Jim though, from.
- 13:54Speaker 3: Jim Jarma, Oh, fantastic guest appearance. So yeah, this is
- 13:57Speaker 3: the film festival equivalent of that of Yeah, these people
- 14:00Speaker 3: are basically short stroking it all over the place when
- 14:03Speaker 3: they get to a park city or tell you ride
- 14:05Speaker 3: or wherever.
- 14:06Speaker 2: It's nice when these mocks mock up what was mocking
- 14:10Speaker 2: episodes because you can say pissed takes. They kind of are,
- 14:13Speaker 2: but in a loving way. But it's nice when they're
- 14:15Speaker 2: written by people who you know are doing it from
- 14:16Speaker 2: the right place.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Yeah, taking the mickey, yeah yeah, that feels a little
- 14:21Speaker 3: less harsh than taking the piss.
- 14:22Speaker 2: But this isn't like a South Park version where it's
- 14:25Speaker 2: completely mocking something. This this is they're doing it from
- 14:27Speaker 2: a place of love. You know, it's like you can
- 14:29Speaker 2: tell this was written by film nerds.
- 14:30Speaker 3: Yeah, but again the feeling even Trey and Matt when
- 14:32Speaker 3: they do stuff like that sort of like there's love
- 14:35Speaker 3: in there, but where we're not going to go easy
- 14:37Speaker 3: on you, probably because they realize where nerds ourselves, so
- 14:41Speaker 3: you know, who's going to how to harm a nerd
- 14:44Speaker 3: better more than another nerd.
- 14:45Speaker 2: And besides the charm skin and besides that, because nice
- 14:50Speaker 2: seeing Skinner and Charmer succeed at something and get along.
- 14:54Speaker 3: There's a lot of really nice elements in this. I mean, yeah,
- 14:56Speaker 3: that that element, that nice teamwork. Yeah, the Jim jarm
- 14:59Speaker 3: was su I guess little cameo about John c Riley
- 15:02Speaker 3: at the end. We're always happy to see John c Riley.
- 15:05Speaker 3: But it's all that's all around a nice episode that
- 15:09Speaker 3: again reminds you Lisa can occasionally be sort of a snob,
- 15:13Speaker 3: a bit of a bit self righteous, but she realizes
- 15:17Speaker 3: that family is everything.
- 15:19Speaker 2: Yeah, and life could be a lot worse. Life could
- 15:22Speaker 2: be worse, yes, So just you know, you might not
- 15:24Speaker 2: be happy all the time. No one's happy all the
- 15:26Speaker 2: time with their family, but just appreciate that you've got one,
- 15:28Speaker 2: correct correct, yes.
- 15:30Speaker 3: And plus this was directed by the guy whose name
- 15:33Speaker 3: I just enjoy more than anyone else's Chuck Sheets. Just
- 15:37Speaker 3: love that guy's name.
- 15:38Speaker 2: My number three then, because I was both our number four,
- 15:40Speaker 2: so you told me the number three.
- 15:41Speaker 3: My number three is a little orphan Millie.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Okay, what did you like about little orphan Milly?
- 15:48Speaker 3: I am prone to the underdog. I'm pastoral to the underdog,
- 15:51Speaker 3: and I like seeing Miller House get some kind of
- 15:55Speaker 3: a win.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Because he was like the rebel without a cause by
- 15:58Speaker 2: the end.
- 15:58Speaker 3: Was yeah, yeah, I mean he's got that the shadow.
- 16:02Speaker 3: I think he's lost his parents, so he starts affecting
- 16:04Speaker 3: that whole gud.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Which broken inside a lot of which a lot.
- 16:08Speaker 3: I think when we talked about this episode, I was
- 16:10Speaker 3: saying that's me at seventeen, where I'm like, you just
- 16:14Speaker 3: don't understand me, babe, I don't want to understand your guy. Yeah,
- 16:19Speaker 3: but you can't.
- 16:20Speaker 2: I don't think I was ever that inclined. I think
- 16:23Speaker 2: I was just.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Like, it's not it.
- 16:25Speaker 2: This is mean, you gotta love it?
- 16:28Speaker 3: Yeah? Where is it? Like? I'm like, this is me?
- 16:31Speaker 3: Can you love it? No?
- 16:34Speaker 1: Don't want to?
- 16:36Speaker 2: But what was the episode his parents he thinks they're
- 16:39Speaker 2: dad on the ship.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, and he sort of gets becomes a bit
- 16:41Speaker 3: of a rebel without a cause kind of deal. It
- 16:43Speaker 3: becomes very very alluring to certain people, even to even
- 16:46Speaker 3: to Lisa, I.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Believe, or Lisa falls for him, not from but she's like,
- 16:50Speaker 2: oh side of mill House didn't expect that's right, Yeah,
- 16:54Speaker 2: I didn't expect you to pick this one. Opened up
- 16:56Speaker 2: my notes for a little awful million to see what
- 16:57Speaker 2: I like from the episode, what my notes are. So
- 17:00Speaker 2: it gets ridiculously and because you've got the uncle who
- 17:05Speaker 2: we never knew anything about, who turns out to be
- 17:07Speaker 2: a bit of a bunce adventure.
- 17:08Speaker 3: A bit of an Indiana Jones that's right.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Yeah, the ending was whacky, wasn't it. The balloon and stuff.
- 17:12Speaker 3: Yeah, it went off the rails.
- 17:14Speaker 2: But a lot of Season nineteen just goes off the rouse.
- 17:16Speaker 2: In the last two minutes which done really.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Really well, I'm going off the cliff. I forgot the
- 17:22Speaker 3: name of the episode where middle House was revealed that
- 17:25Speaker 3: he that he was Italian New Italian and the real
- 17:29Speaker 3: sort of continental lover came out. Well, what you're I'm
- 17:35Speaker 3: really going heavy on the attacking accents today, who least,
- 17:43Speaker 3: Why are you upset that I have a girl friend something? Yeah?
- 17:46Speaker 2: He sat by the girls and Lisa's like, you're might
- 17:48Speaker 2: teacher teaching Italian?
- 17:50Speaker 3: Yeah, that's right. Yeah, and look, I'm happy when mill
- 17:53Speaker 3: has get something like that. So that was the main reason
- 17:55Speaker 3: that I enjoyed this episode. I don't remember too much
- 17:57Speaker 3: else about. I'm sure there is a b plot.
- 18:00Speaker 2: I'm not sure if there was. I've just got his
- 18:02Speaker 2: one of the more enjoyable Millhouse.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Oh it's the other.
- 18:05Speaker 3: It's the one where Homer doesn't remember the color of
- 18:10Speaker 3: March's eyes. Yeah, and he's making all these.
- 18:13Speaker 2: He's actually making a genuine effort. She's hiding it from him,
- 18:17Speaker 2: pretty sure, And that went up. We sort of both
- 18:18Speaker 2: went Home's making an effort here, Why do you make
- 18:20Speaker 2: us so hard for him?
- 18:24Speaker 3: Yeah? So that was my I think I think I'm
- 18:31Speaker 3: throwing two different languages, none of them Italian.
- 18:36Speaker 2: My number three is eternal moonshine of the Simpson mind.
- 18:40Speaker 2: You're right, yes, okay, So I love a good mystery.
- 18:43Speaker 2: This was the overall structure was executed well. Here Homer
- 18:47Speaker 2: was genuinely sympathetic. Here was he throughout the episode, thought
- 18:51Speaker 2: he had done wrong by Marge, And the only thing
- 18:54Speaker 2: for me though, was I can never sort of really
- 18:58Speaker 2: enjoy a story that includes includes suicide and where he
- 19:02Speaker 2: come from. And I mean it just sort of kills
- 19:04Speaker 2: the mood a bit. And what really sort of didn't
- 19:06Speaker 2: sit well for me for this one here, what took
- 19:07Speaker 2: it away from being higher on the list was that
- 19:09Speaker 2: Patty and Salmone tried to kill Homer in the end.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and there's there's the fallback of ohithough they
- 19:14Speaker 2: knew this ship was down there, that he lands on
- 19:17Speaker 2: the party boat, but then they make the joke of
- 19:20Speaker 2: them saying, no, we didn't know it was there, And
- 19:21Speaker 2: I'm like, you didn't need to make that joke. You know.
- 19:24Speaker 2: The joke worked with them just pushing him to scare him.
- 19:27Speaker 2: That's enough of a thrill for them. But I just
- 19:29Speaker 2: thought the ending was a little patchy for me. I
- 19:32Speaker 2: liked the overall that they forget me shot and that
- 19:33Speaker 2: kind of thing, but so Homer's motives were all really
- 19:36Speaker 2: good throughout the episode. He felt bad that he ruined
- 19:38Speaker 2: the surprise party, so he had to forget me shot
- 19:41Speaker 2: so he could remember it and be surprised again. For
- 19:43Speaker 2: Marge's benefit. But I saw the ending of the party boit,
- 19:45Speaker 2: I thought I just found a little bit out there,
- 19:49Speaker 2: A little bit.
- 19:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think that ending is, as we
- 19:52Speaker 3: probably said during the episode, a riff on that movie,
- 19:54Speaker 3: The Game That's Right, which again has that all this
- 19:57Speaker 3: kind of stuff throughout the movie, like, Oh, I don't
- 20:00Speaker 3: know what's real. I don't know what's what. Oh in
- 20:02Speaker 3: the end, I'm just so confused by everything. My life
- 20:04Speaker 3: is such a mess. I'm going to jump off this building.
- 20:06Speaker 3: Except oh, wait, you knew I was going to do that,
- 20:08Speaker 3: and you set up a thing for him. It's like, oh,
- 20:10Speaker 3: this whole thing was some elaborate scam that I would
- 20:13Speaker 3: appreciate my life.
- 20:14Speaker 1: What I mean.
- 20:16Speaker 3: I kin't like the game. It's a weird us movie
- 20:18Speaker 3: kind of fun.
- 20:18Speaker 2: But the movie. I like the Game Night. Even watched
- 20:21Speaker 2: Game Night was Fantastic's a lot of fun, isn't it.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Game n It's hilarious. Many people are saying this, but
- 20:27Speaker 2: I mean, I never It's one of those movies I
- 20:29Speaker 2: just found one day in streaming. I don't think it
- 20:31Speaker 2: was ever really promoted well or no upon its release,
- 20:35Speaker 2: but Game Nights are worth watching.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, yeah, I mean everything from Rachel McAdams, who
- 20:40Speaker 3: was just a delight in it but all of a sudden,
- 20:43Speaker 3: incredibly funny and so much stuff. Yeah, she's got one
- 20:45Speaker 3: of the best comic bits of like the last twenty
- 20:47Speaker 3: years as far as I'm concerned. We won't we won't
- 20:49Speaker 3: spoil it.
- 20:50Speaker 2: But let's say that movie. Yes, but that's Bateman as well, Right,
- 20:53Speaker 2: that's Jason Bateman. But it's also got a man Jesse
- 20:56Speaker 2: Plemmon's Yes, just absolutely slaying it.
- 20:59Speaker 1: That guy just rules.
- 21:02Speaker 3: It's funny because I remember seeing him like as a
- 21:04Speaker 3: child actor on varioushows and he looks on Oh he
- 21:07Speaker 3: was doing like guest spots on various things, and then
- 21:09Speaker 3: he was on Friday Night Lights okay, and really really
- 21:12Speaker 3: good on that he's married to And he's married because
- 21:14Speaker 3: isn't he.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Yeah, And that's the thing.
- 21:16Speaker 3: He's sort of like this. You see him as a kid.
- 21:19Speaker 3: I think his nickname was, like for a while, was
- 21:21Speaker 3: like Meth Damon because because he looks like Matt Damon does, but.
- 21:25Speaker 2: A version it's Hallie, Joel Oldsman and Matt Damon together.
- 21:28Speaker 3: Yeah. But yeah, he's just a really reliable dude because
- 21:33Speaker 3: his weight will fluctuate sometimes, Yeah, bit husky, but now
- 21:35Speaker 3: he's like slimmed down a bit.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Didn't they do wasn't it Breaking Bad? The sequel film?
- 21:41Speaker 2: They did whatever it was he was fatter or something.
- 21:43Speaker 2: They had to like somehow like how did he put
- 21:46Speaker 2: on weight because he was stinner in Breaking Bad?
- 21:48Speaker 3: Right?
- 21:49Speaker 2: Yeah, but he just he just.
- 21:51Speaker 3: Seems like a really righteous dude. You married a curse done.
- 21:54Speaker 3: Everything just coming up trumps with that guy, actually coming
- 21:57Speaker 3: up aces for that guy.

- 22:28Speaker 3: How do we get to talking about him? We were
- 22:31Speaker 3: talking about game night, Game Night, which was great. Yeah,
- 22:34Speaker 3: game that's a really good movie. But yeah, he's hilarious
- 22:36Speaker 3: and just that whole thing with the there's nothing worse
- 22:39Speaker 3: than the person who repeats lines from movies. But you
- 22:41Speaker 3: know they're having the game night. They got all the
- 22:43Speaker 3: bags of chips. They go, oh yeah, they're having the
- 22:46Speaker 3: same where you get three for the price of one.
- 22:47Speaker 3: And he's looking at them. How can that be profitable
- 22:49Speaker 3: for Fredo lay disemployments? Well, lord, yeah, the game but
- 22:56Speaker 3: which yeah, game game Night, the game Turnal Moonshine, Eternal Moonshine,
- 23:01Speaker 3: number three, you're number three. Let's talk about your number two,
- 23:04Speaker 3: turnal Sunshine.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Is it really okay? Well, there we go, there we go.
- 23:07Speaker 3: We killed two birds with the story.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Well'll talk about my number two then, Okay, my number
- 23:11Speaker 2: two is the Departed.
- 23:14Speaker 3: I said it was number two.
- 23:15Speaker 2: Yes, we're getting to know each other.
- 23:18Speaker 3: It's taken a few years, but we're getting there.
- 23:20Speaker 2: I've got see. I tried my best. I thought we
- 23:23Speaker 2: would have different ones. I realize you pick a turnal
- 23:25Speaker 2: Moonshine for yours. I got that one wrong. But the
- 23:27Speaker 2: Departed so well.
- 23:28Speaker 3: Also, did I say directed by Chuck Sheets, because yeah,
- 23:30Speaker 3: directed by Chuck Sheets.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Well, Turnal Moonshine was as well. Yeah, well so was
- 23:34Speaker 2: the last one then, because you picked a little off
- 23:35Speaker 2: Millie directed by Chuck Sheet, or was any given Sundance?
- 23:38Speaker 2: Uh no, little Orphan Mille a little yeah, Chuck Sheets, Yeah. Man,
- 23:43Speaker 2: the depart So just an overall fun parody of this
- 23:46Speaker 2: you can call of the Departed. I know I departed.
- 23:49Speaker 3: Sorry.
- 23:50Speaker 2: I know you weren't the biggest fan because you loved
- 23:52Speaker 2: The Departed and you thought the ending was a bit
- 23:54Speaker 2: on the nose with the rat and whatnot. But I
- 23:57Speaker 2: just think I don't think i'd seen the film when
- 23:59Speaker 2: I first watch this, And a good parody is one
- 24:01Speaker 2: that you can enjoy without knowing the source material correct,
- 24:05Speaker 2: and which is something I think the Simpsons stuffer when
- 24:07Speaker 2: we discussed it recently. In recent years, there parody seemed
- 24:10Speaker 2: to be well, very on the nose. If you haven't
- 24:12Speaker 2: seen the show, then it's not funny, you know. But
- 24:16Speaker 2: this one here, I really enjoyed it. I thought Tofa
- 24:18Speaker 2: Grace was great as Donnie, and just a really fun
- 24:20Speaker 2: twist that if you've seen the film, you know it's
- 24:23Speaker 2: going to be coming. But I didn't see it coming
- 24:25Speaker 2: when I was when I watched this for the first time,
- 24:26Speaker 2: I just remember being oh, okay, cool.
- 24:29Speaker 3: Also, I like that Skinner was a bit of a mastermind.
- 24:33Speaker 2: I like, I love it when Skinner out smarts.
- 24:35Speaker 3: But yeah, yeah, I mean, I think that's something that
- 24:38Speaker 3: we've had in a few other episodes with the show
- 24:41Speaker 3: is called the Simpsons. We like it when it's about
- 24:42Speaker 3: the Simpsons, but we've come to love and appreciate a
- 24:45Speaker 3: lot of these side characters. And it's good when they
- 24:48Speaker 3: zag instead of zig. Yeah, it's good when they get
- 24:51Speaker 3: away work in any given, any given sundowance. It's great
- 24:55Speaker 3: that the Skinner and Charmers form this team and that
- 24:59Speaker 3: the team actually gets a win. That's great. I think
- 25:01Speaker 3: we really enjoy that.
- 25:02Speaker 2: It's similar to twenty four twenty four minutes, yeah, where
- 25:05Speaker 2: they formed the thing with Martin. The thing is, though,
- 25:07Speaker 2: I think this is one of the first times where
- 25:09Speaker 2: they really honed in on Skinner and Charmers, or Charmers
- 25:13Speaker 2: in particular liking Skinner because at the end, your Skinner
- 25:16Speaker 2: and nothing happens to your Skinner. I'm right here, So
- 25:19Speaker 2: don't you ever do that to me again. I think
- 25:21Speaker 2: maybe it might have been one of the moments where
- 25:22Speaker 2: they realized, you know, there's something we can do with
- 25:24Speaker 2: these two guys here, more than just the angst, and
- 25:27Speaker 2: then we got charm skin. Yeah, and I feel like
- 25:29Speaker 2: this was the moment where it sort of went, wait
- 25:31Speaker 2: a minute, why can't these guys be friends. Well, we're
- 25:35Speaker 2: nineteen seasons in. Yeah, let's move on, let's let's evolve
- 25:38Speaker 2: the dynamic.
- 25:38Speaker 3: I think the most yea, the most famous skinner charmers
- 25:42Speaker 3: thing is of course steamed hams. I mean, someone over
- 25:44Speaker 3: the house for dinner. If you don't it.
- 25:45Speaker 2: Still me, I mean, I know, it's that it became
- 25:49Speaker 2: such a thing, became such a thing. I still to
- 25:51Speaker 2: this day I appreciate it. And I'm not saying it's
- 25:54Speaker 2: not funny me personally. I just watch this going.
- 25:58Speaker 3: I think The Simpsons has become such, know, a cornerstone
- 26:01Speaker 3: of American comedy and like worldwide comedy as well. That, yeah,
- 26:06Speaker 3: I kind of enjoy it when you do just weird
- 26:10Speaker 3: absurd shiit with it.
- 26:12Speaker 2: That was it too.
- 26:14Speaker 3: It was It was a real not It felt like
- 26:17Speaker 3: a real, sort of specific moment in time where there
- 26:20Speaker 3: was that weird kind of human It still exists to
- 26:22Speaker 3: some degree, but it really kind of filtered up with
- 26:24Speaker 3: the mainstream, that whole video thing with the dud. It's
- 26:28Speaker 3: got that sort of classical music and all the doors
- 26:30Speaker 3: open and just the weird smile. I mean, that doesn't
- 26:33Speaker 3: make any damn sense at all. But every time, I
- 26:38Speaker 3: mean anytime it sort of comes up in my feet
- 26:40Speaker 3: is like, I gotta watch this for a second. I
- 26:41Speaker 3: really do.
- 26:42Speaker 1: Just we'd start the practice.
- 26:47Speaker 2: I'm sorry, guys, to stop speaking. I know, I know
- 26:51Speaker 2: a guy has left the zoom call.
- 26:53Speaker 3: I gotta freeze on my computer. Sorry, internet's down. But
- 27:01Speaker 3: that and anytime you see some weird remix of steam hands,
- 27:04Speaker 3: like what was the is it the Gorilla's song that
- 27:07Speaker 3: they did? Like there was a gorilla's remix of steam Hands?
- 27:10Speaker 3: Don't don't do. There's like a hundred hands.
- 27:14Speaker 2: There's hundreds of remixes. Yeah, steamed hands, but it's only
- 27:17Speaker 2: spoken in some video game language or whatever, like yeah,
- 27:21Speaker 2: steam hands, and every every shot is a different version
- 27:24Speaker 2: of animation.
- 27:26Speaker 3: I love it.
- 27:26Speaker 2: I love it, But that's become that thing. Yeah, I
- 27:29Speaker 2: like what it's became. I don't get it's actual, the
- 27:32Speaker 2: actual scene itself. I can take it look like it's funny,
- 27:36Speaker 2: but it's not. I loved what people have done with it,
- 27:38Speaker 2: That's true.
- 27:39Speaker 3: I kind of like the original. But yeah, R Barry
- 27:42Speaker 3: as you can find out here a kitchen is it?
- 27:44Speaker 2: Nope, I mean that's that's that's just classic comedy from
- 27:49Speaker 2: I mean, and when I say classic comedy, I mean
- 27:51Speaker 2: there's just variations on that for as long as people
- 27:54Speaker 2: have been sort of telling jokes. I'm surprised, you know,
- 27:56Speaker 2: I think what it is I'm more surprised that people
- 27:58Speaker 2: were able to take that and turn it into what
- 28:00Speaker 2: has become the creativity that that stemmed from this, you.
- 28:04Speaker 3: Know, And I think part of the fund of it
- 28:06Speaker 3: is like why is it this? Yeah? Why this? That
- 28:10Speaker 3: really just made people go, yeah, let's this will be
- 28:14Speaker 3: our playground. This will be our our lego kit or whatever,
- 28:17Speaker 3: and we'll just make all men are of weird shit
- 28:19Speaker 3: out of it.
- 28:20Speaker 2: By the way, Matt someone, if you're listening, I know
- 28:23Speaker 2: you are. I'm just saying, as you were talking, I
- 28:25Speaker 2: just have this vision of Homer being in front of
- 28:28Speaker 2: an audience of people whatever. And you know how you
- 28:30Speaker 2: sometimes you envision people in your underwear. Everyone just does
- 28:33Speaker 2: the Homer dudface that needs to be buried. On The
- 28:36Speaker 2: Simpsons in some way. Yeah, my god, where were we?
- 28:42Speaker 2: Number two? I was a depart that debuted.
- 28:45Speaker 3: Okay, I've done my number two?
- 28:47Speaker 2: Yes, all right?
- 28:48Speaker 3: So which is eternal? Shun?
- 28:50Speaker 2: Show my number one? Then I'll say my number one?
- 28:52Speaker 3: Okay?
- 28:53Speaker 2: Or you say you're number one? Yours?
- 28:54Speaker 3: My numeroo is dial and for murder?
- 28:58Speaker 1: Really wow?
- 29:00Speaker 2: Okay? So what is it about dial In that you
- 29:02Speaker 2: enjoyed so much that you made it in number one?
- 29:04Speaker 1: Again?
- 29:04Speaker 3: Having a side character, well, you had a nice mystery
- 29:08Speaker 3: in there. You've also got a side character who is
- 29:11Speaker 3: frequently sidelined or maligned or the butt of the joke,
- 29:17Speaker 3: and it's good to have them. Look like with the
- 29:19Speaker 3: twenty four parody, I mean having Martin is the double
- 29:22Speaker 3: agent who comes good in the end.
- 29:24Speaker 2: I feel like he's one of the favorites in the
- 29:25Speaker 2: writers are in this season. I think, so, yeah, you
- 29:27Speaker 2: peid a lot more than he usually would. Yeah. So
- 29:29Speaker 2: basically that's the premise where Bart and Lisa think they've
- 29:32Speaker 2: killed Martin but they haven't, and Nelson is trying to
- 29:35Speaker 2: investigate them to find out who actually did it. Yeah
- 29:38Speaker 2: on paper and just saying it, adelaid Lars was there
- 29:41Speaker 2: a be PLoP for this one as well, involved sneakers
- 29:44Speaker 2: and Cheatah. It was oh, oh the cheats one, Yes,
- 29:46Speaker 2: that's right.
- 29:47Speaker 3: Yeah, because Homer was cheating on his diet, which he
- 29:49Speaker 3: was doing quite frequently and with Gusto.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Yes, but the bee plot was fine. It was okay,
- 29:56Speaker 2: who did they have as the It was the Cheatahs host,
- 29:59Speaker 2: wasn't it.
- 30:00Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 30:00Speaker 2: I was trying to who was who was doing the
- 30:02Speaker 2: actual voice? Yeah, this is the one has a really
- 30:05Speaker 2: annoying Betsy Bidba with the bell pepper, bell pepper.
- 30:07Speaker 3: Oh that's right. I'm like, ah, they can't all be winners.
- 30:12Speaker 2: I thought. Was this one called again dial Infinite? I'll
- 30:13Speaker 2: look it up.
- 30:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:15Speaker 2: I don't know if they actually had like a special
- 30:18Speaker 2: guest star as the I don't think they did, but
- 30:21Speaker 2: we'll look it up. This one it was written by
- 30:23Speaker 2: caroln Amenez. Of course it's going to be quality, so
- 30:25Speaker 2: there were no guest voices here. But the what is
- 30:29Speaker 2: the guy's name? Let's got Cheetahs host Simpsons Cheetahs. It's
- 30:35Speaker 2: gonna be a Hackazaria character. Yeah that's right, Joe Cheetahs
- 30:39Speaker 2: host Simpsons. Joe Greco. Joey Greco is the actual host.
- 30:43Speaker 2: Actually don't think we ever got his name. Maybe that
- 30:45Speaker 2: was the thing. I don't think we've actually got his name.
- 30:47Speaker 2: For some reason, I thought it was Stephen Colbert. Now
- 30:50Speaker 2: he was in the very first episode, that's right, Yeah,
- 30:52Speaker 2: which was terrible. Maybe that's what I'm thinking, maybe.
- 30:56Speaker 3: Not put this a number one.
- 30:57Speaker 2: But there are other things.
- 30:58Speaker 3: There are other things that I just like. And looking
- 31:00Speaker 3: over the notes here, it's like, oh, that's right, it's
- 31:02Speaker 3: got the ending that sort of pays tribute to that
- 31:05Speaker 3: NBC mystery movie thing.
- 31:07Speaker 2: Yes, so Martin plays with a lute whenever you get butterflies,
- 31:10Speaker 2: hasn't he?
- 31:10Speaker 3: Yeah, honestly, this may have just been it.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Was the fun who done it? Yeah? I felt like
- 31:15Speaker 2: a knives out s kind of vibe, didn't it?
- 31:17Speaker 3: Yeah? Very much? And this felt like a hefty, hefty
- 31:19Speaker 3: plate of sweet, sweet nostalgia for yours truly, So that's
- 31:22Speaker 3: probably why I enjoyed it. But I like a good mystery.
- 31:25Speaker 3: I enjoy when Martin has an opportunity, or any character
- 31:28Speaker 3: like that has an opportunity to show a little bit
- 31:30Speaker 3: more about themselves.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I mean having Nelson as like the detective,
- 31:34Speaker 2: was that as Colombo Hibbit as Quincy rich Textan as
- 31:37Speaker 2: McCloud and mister Bendersmith's as mc millan and wife. Well,
- 31:40Speaker 2: my number one, what do you think it is? I
- 31:44Speaker 2: put down puppet on Leitch. No, I had that. I
- 31:46Speaker 2: thought you would have included that because you really like
- 31:48Speaker 2: the dissie chick's appearance.
- 31:50Speaker 3: I like them in that absolutely, Yeah, I mean did I? Oh,
- 31:53Speaker 3: I don't think I put them in mind because I
- 31:55Speaker 3: put them in yours. Okay, Yeah, So that was a
- 31:57Speaker 3: way that we can talk about it. That could have
- 31:59Speaker 3: been in my five, I reckon because I know you
- 32:02Speaker 3: like Lulin yeah, and you like we all like women.
- 32:05Speaker 3: Who does not? Yes?
- 32:07Speaker 2: So, but my number one is that ninety show, ah,
- 32:11Speaker 2: which I had down as number four for you. So
- 32:13Speaker 2: this was the one I think I had the most
- 32:15Speaker 2: anticipation going into reviewing because I didn't really have too
- 32:19Speaker 2: many memories I remember watching it, but I didn't really
- 32:22Speaker 2: have many too many memories of watching it. The debarded
- 32:25Speaker 2: I knew I enjoyed, right, So I knew I was
- 32:27Speaker 2: going to enjoy this one. This one here. So many
- 32:29Speaker 2: people hate this episode, really really hate this episode and
- 32:35Speaker 2: just continue to this day shit on it, saying it
- 32:37Speaker 2: is one of the one of the times they realized
- 32:38Speaker 2: they don't like Simpsons anymore, stop watching the Simpsons after
- 32:41Speaker 2: watching this episode. And then so I went in with
- 32:44Speaker 2: I wouldn't say low expectations. I was just regarded, Yeah,
- 32:47Speaker 2: but I was ammed for it, and I just thought
- 32:49Speaker 2: this was a fun I said it as a non
- 32:51Speaker 2: canon episode, right, a fun noncanon episode that really, for me,
- 32:55Speaker 2: being a nineties kid, captured the nineties vibe in many ways,
- 33:00Speaker 2: particularly with the soundtrack, because I think we had closing time.
- 33:04Speaker 2: Bit of Sweet Symphony was played. He's take on glycerine.
- 33:07Speaker 2: I think it was Margarine Margarine.
- 33:10Speaker 3: Yep, that's yeah.
- 33:11Speaker 2: Yeah, but I remember having just a nineteen nineteen ninety
- 33:16Speaker 2: seven romcom feel to it. I thought just seeing the
- 33:19Speaker 2: Simpsons living in the era in which they were the
- 33:21Speaker 2: biggest family in the world was a lot of fun
- 33:24Speaker 2: as well.
- 33:24Speaker 3: Oh yeah, and reframing it is like, well, this is
- 33:26Speaker 3: what it was actually like.
- 33:27Speaker 2: Yeah, nineties with the Simpsons living in it. Yeah, see what.
- 33:31Speaker 3: Are we two thousand and seven? So yeah, I mean
- 33:33Speaker 3: there's a fair well, I mean what they're the nineties
- 33:36Speaker 3: they're talking about here is very much sort of early
- 33:38Speaker 3: to mid nineties, probably topping out around ninety five or
- 33:41Speaker 3: sl Yeah. I don't think they gave a specific dates
- 33:43Speaker 3: like or a specific year.
- 33:44Speaker 2: It was just but mid nineties.
- 33:46Speaker 1: Yeah, because there's as.
- 33:47Speaker 3: It is with any decade. As I've said many times
- 33:49Speaker 3: in the past, you've got because there are decades within
- 33:51Speaker 3: decades or eras within decades. Yeah. Yeah, the early eighties
- 33:55Speaker 3: is very different to what we consider the eighties. Yes,
- 33:57Speaker 3: I mean eighty one through to maybe eighty three is
- 34:00Speaker 3: like this is all very brown and beige and basically
- 34:03Speaker 3: a bleed over from the.
- 34:03Speaker 2: State of thing Stranger things vibe.
- 34:05Speaker 3: Yeah, stranger thing vibe is usually that kicks in around
- 34:08Speaker 3: eighty four eighty five, and you get that for the
- 34:11Speaker 3: rest of the decade, maybe into like ninety one or.
- 34:13Speaker 2: So funny as the nineties kid eighties I attribute to
- 34:18Speaker 2: synthesizers as well as hair metal. That's why I see
- 34:22Speaker 2: the eighties as neon that kind of thing. When did
- 34:25Speaker 2: the neon.
- 34:26Speaker 3: Eighties be about eighty four eight half? Okay? Okay, So
- 34:30Speaker 3: all that synthwave stuff anytime you see on YouTube is
- 34:33Speaker 3: like synth wear melody, and you know that's eighty four onwards,
- 34:41Speaker 3: I reckon and is that your favorite here, No, my
- 34:44Speaker 3: favorite here is like early nineties, early nineties. Yeah, I've
- 34:47Speaker 3: said many times like I'd never say, oh, someone's that
- 34:50Speaker 3: was the best time in my life, because anytime of
- 34:52Speaker 3: my life could be the best time of my life,
- 34:54Speaker 3: could be right around the bend. But early nineties just
- 34:57Speaker 3: a rad.
- 34:58Speaker 2: Time you would have been. I was like I was
- 35:00Speaker 2: in the early thirties. No, that was that's twenties, twenties. Yeah, yeah,
- 35:03Speaker 2: full that hair good looks about twenty later. Often special
- 35:08Speaker 2: there was a vision of you standing by what was
- 35:11Speaker 2: your record call when you were twenty here the nightclub?
- 35:14Speaker 2: Was it Eureka?
- 35:15Speaker 3: Uh?
- 35:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it was to just say you buy the bar
- 35:17Speaker 2: of the Eureka with a pint in your hand and jump around.
- 35:20Speaker 2: Comes on, because you've alwaysaid it used to put the
- 35:22Speaker 2: pint down. Is you're straight to the dance floor? Good
- 35:24Speaker 2: time or bab bus? I wish I was vision of that,
- 35:29Speaker 2: a young guys heading toward that dance floor. I love
- 35:35Speaker 2: the nineties, and so yeah, I enjoyed this episode very much.
- 35:37Speaker 2: But yeah, this is very a very specific.
- 35:39Speaker 3: Period of the nineties because ninety one through to maybe
- 35:42Speaker 3: basically the Kurk Cobaine years, which was essentially ninety one
- 35:45Speaker 3: to ninety four.
- 35:46Speaker 2: I see it as the b Sharps but Navana but
- 35:49Speaker 2: beer but grunge. Yeah, the bee Shaps make a grunge,
- 35:51Speaker 2: And I think again, it's an episode that you can
- 35:53Speaker 2: enjoy if you don't know the source material and such.
- 35:56Speaker 2: So I watch it with the kids and at the
- 35:58Speaker 2: end of I remember they mentioned homoed having the drugs
- 36:00Speaker 2: and stuff, and I'm like, yeah, oh, oh boy, but
- 36:02Speaker 2: probably shouldn't be Alie, probably should be watching this. But
- 36:05Speaker 2: they enjoyed it. Right, But if you lived through the
- 36:07Speaker 2: nineties and you were, in particular Nirvana fan, now there's
- 36:11Speaker 2: a lot of references that that you appreciated ever more.
- 36:13Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah. So I just thought that someone did
- 36:15Speaker 2: a great job with this. I remember thinking that Marge
- 36:18Speaker 2: was the villain in this episode, not a villain, but
- 36:20Speaker 2: she hope wasn't in no way wrong. Yeah, I know
- 36:23Speaker 2: he was the man child, and how Marge deserved more.
- 36:28Speaker 2: But you knew what you were getting. And she sees
- 36:32Speaker 2: this professor, she was like, hey, I'm done with you now.
- 36:34Speaker 2: I'm like, what's not really nice? Because he's working two
- 36:37Speaker 2: jobs to bay.
- 36:38Speaker 3: And that's tucation that struck me as very representative of
- 36:42Speaker 3: how you are in your late teens early twenties, when
- 36:45Speaker 3: I was like, Oh, all this input, all these new ideas,
- 36:48Speaker 3: and but you're a man. Well yeah, and you also
- 36:50Speaker 3: you're kind of uninformed as a person. You'll go everything
- 36:53Speaker 3: around you and everything that you take in is going
- 36:55Speaker 3: to be filling you up and creating who you are. Yeah.
- 36:58Speaker 3: And if you've got someone who's like, oh, should they
- 37:01Speaker 3: know they know a bit? Oh, and they're paying attention
- 37:04Speaker 3: to me, of course, you're going to be like round
- 37:06Speaker 3: Row as a and you're going to sideline the the
- 37:09Speaker 3: one who brung you to the dance. I just yeah,
- 37:12Speaker 3: the nice guy who's working two jobs to put you
- 37:13Speaker 3: through Uni.
- 37:14Speaker 2: Do you just think that this had a rom com
- 37:16Speaker 2: late nineties rom com kind of vibe to it mid
- 37:18Speaker 2: to late nineties?
- 37:19Speaker 3: Did it did? Absolutely?
- 37:20Speaker 2: I just I really enjoyed that ninety show and that's
- 37:22Speaker 2: why it was my number one four the season fantastic.
- 37:25Speaker 2: So run through your five again. I run through my
- 37:26Speaker 2: five in full detail? Is a good from five to
- 37:29Speaker 2: one funeral for a fiend at number five. Number four
- 37:33Speaker 2: was any given sundance. Number three was a little orphan
- 37:36Speaker 2: Millie number two, Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson's Mind, Simpson Mind,
- 37:41Speaker 2: and number one.
- 37:43Speaker 3: Was dial Inn for murder.
- 37:44Speaker 2: I got one of yours, Oh my goodness, like so
- 37:47Speaker 2: many of yours it did. Yeah, So my five were
- 37:50Speaker 2: that ninety shot number one, the bars at number two,
- 37:53Speaker 2: Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson Mind, number three, Any Given
- 37:56Speaker 2: Sundance number four, and Midnight Towboy number five.
- 37:59Speaker 3: Go three of mine I got. I got three out
- 38:00Speaker 3: of five and two of.
- 38:01Speaker 2: Them in the right spot, too, right, I think, so done?
- 38:04Speaker 2: Good job.
- 38:05Speaker 3: Do I win the wild card? So that means I'm
- 38:08Speaker 3: a top tier stade gud?
- 38:09Speaker 2: What a what a transition there?
- 38:12Speaker 3: I know. Before we do that, can I do a
- 38:14Speaker 3: quick recommendation? Okay, I'm sorry this is going way off
- 38:18Speaker 3: track for a minute, but I imagine that we have a
- 38:20Speaker 3: few listeners who are gamers. I watched this documentary on
- 38:23Speaker 3: Netflix over the weekend and was basically sitting in a
- 38:26Speaker 3: lake of my own tears for the duration of it.
- 38:28Speaker 2: But happy tears documentary.
- 38:30Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, it was really sweets, called The Remarkable Life
- 38:32Speaker 3: of Iblin. I don't think it's got a whole lot
- 38:34Speaker 3: of publicity or press. What's it's on Netflix? Okay, I
- 38:37Speaker 3: won't give you the whole rundown of it, but the
- 38:39Speaker 3: gist of it is, you've got this young man is
- 38:41Speaker 3: in Oh, this is gonna sound terrible. I think he
- 38:43Speaker 3: was in Norway. What's the Remarkable life of Ibelin? I?
- 38:48Speaker 3: B E L I N I.
- 38:50Speaker 2: Okay, look at why you're talking about it.
- 38:52Speaker 3: Got this young boy. He's born, he's doing all the
- 38:57Speaker 3: natural development. Then he starts stumbling a little bit, and
- 38:59Speaker 3: his parents are always got this form of muscular dystrophy
- 39:03Speaker 3: that's basically going to waste away his muscles. He can't
- 39:06Speaker 3: really sort of do all that much physically, but he
- 39:08Speaker 3: starts gaming lot, doing a lot of online gaming and
- 39:11Speaker 3: role playing multiplayer games, that kind of stuff. There's an
- 39:13Speaker 3: actual name for that. I'm sorry I forgotten that Upig's Yeah,
- 39:17Speaker 3: but he.
- 39:17Speaker 2: Plays a lot of World of Warcraft, which it was
- 39:19Speaker 2: is just role playing games abbreviated.
- 39:21Speaker 3: Okay, thank you for all that. You don't have to
- 39:25Speaker 3: know that to enjoy this documentary. Sadly, he passes away
- 39:29Speaker 3: at the age of twenty five but boiless. But his
- 39:32Speaker 3: parents find his password to his blog and they say,
- 39:35Speaker 3: I think they want I think he wanted us to
- 39:38Speaker 3: find this, and they put a little message on his
- 39:40Speaker 3: blog because oh, we know he games. There's going to
- 39:42Speaker 3: be a few people out there saying, oh, where where's
- 39:44Speaker 3: our song? Where's he gone? They put a little message on.
- 39:47Speaker 3: They just start getting inundated with emails saying, your soone's
- 39:50Speaker 3: the greatest, your son meant so much to me, your
- 39:52Speaker 3: son did this for me, Your son did this for me.
- 39:54Speaker 3: It's like, wait what they find out he had this
- 39:56Speaker 3: whole life online as this character he canted grand name
- 40:00Speaker 3: didn't know about. And I'm fucking tearing up just thinking
- 40:04Speaker 3: about it now, because he was just the fucking best
- 40:06Speaker 3: dude in world of warcraft and everyone's like, ibblin, what
- 40:12Speaker 3: a low. Honestly, if you have the opportunity to check
- 40:16Speaker 3: this out, watch it goes for about an hour and
- 40:18Speaker 3: a half. I'm not going to say you're an inhuman monster.
- 40:21Speaker 3: If you don't love it, you know, I will certainly.
- 40:24Speaker 2: Think it's ninety eight percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
- 40:26Speaker 3: It's fucking brilliant. I loved it so much.
- 40:28Speaker 2: Tent four percent liked this film on Google users.
- 40:31Speaker 3: Yeah, and I don't recommend you watch it. Two downer
- 40:33Speaker 3: is very very sweet.
- 40:34Speaker 2: Well should Nicola enjoy it? An you think?
- 40:36Speaker 3: I think so?
- 40:37Speaker 2: Then I imagine you'll be like oldie, come your sweet,
- 40:41Speaker 2: how I hold you?
- 40:42Speaker 3: I was. I was talking about it Dulu last night
- 40:45Speaker 3: and again almost like I can't tell you about it
- 40:48Speaker 3: and it was in the middle pizza bar.
- 40:51Speaker 2: Alright, well i'll check that out, all right. So now
- 40:53Speaker 2: we've got all the names in the little random generator
- 40:56Speaker 2: here Ta's you're like ten minutes of all of these
- 40:57Speaker 2: names in. But it's worth it. They give days every week.
- 41:00Speaker 3: I'm very happy about this because you know, right shows
- 41:04Speaker 3: that we got all these.
- 41:04Speaker 2: People cleck generate now and the winner of this person
- 41:07Speaker 2: will get a season supply of being on the eight

- 41:16Speaker 2: click on the step. So how's the day going.
- 41:19Speaker 1: It's going pretty good?

- 41:25Speaker 2: So say it to the tangerine random mass, Random mass,
- 41:30Speaker 2: random mass.
- 41:35Speaker 3: We're randomizing the name.
- 41:36Speaker 2: All right, I've clicked go to Jared Oran. We have
- 41:39Speaker 2: a winner and it is Daniel Hartley. Well, I'm Daniel Harley,
- 41:42Speaker 2: well known Daniel the Wild Car winner. For season nineteen,
- 41:45Speaker 2: thank you for throwing. He was on two points for
- 41:48Speaker 2: the season. So it just goes to show if little
- 41:50Speaker 2: guys will win, we've.
- 41:52Speaker 3: Got a thing going. I mean, guys very happy that
- 41:54Speaker 3: underdogs have got a shot. And a few episodes here

- 42:19Speaker 3: Holy moment, Yeah.
- 42:20Speaker 2: Love and life.
- 42:21Speaker 3: Daniel. You're just going to have so much to listen
- 42:23Speaker 3: to it and probably by the end of it you'll
- 42:24Speaker 3: be going, maybe it should become like a full top
- 42:26Speaker 3: tier supporter the whole time.
- 42:28Speaker 2: And they'll say my name on every episode. We will
- 42:30Speaker 2: do that, Daniel, much like these people right here. Do
- 42:42Speaker 2: you want to read him maup because that's the well,
- 42:44Speaker 2: the last one, Okay, I'll say it. It should have
- 42:47Speaker 2: seen the absolute disdain on his face. You're going to
- 42:51Speaker 2: have to turn the computer around all right. So we've
- 42:54Speaker 2: got Katie g with her one hundred support. Thank you

- 43:34Speaker 2: Batman with the Live Orchestra was that the Regent Theater.
- 43:37Speaker 2: Though I will say not as good as watching a
- 43:39Speaker 2: live orchestra perform to a film as at Hamer Hall,

- 45:49Speaker 2: did mention at the start that at the end we're
- 45:52Speaker 2: going to save the worst episode ever.
- 45:54Speaker 1: Oh yeah, the worst episode ever.
- 45:58Speaker 2: So what we're going to do here is on the
- 46:00Speaker 2: cant of three, you and I are going to say
- 46:02Speaker 2: what we think is the worst episode of season nineteen.
- 46:05Speaker 2: All right, So I'm gonna say I'm gonna go one
- 46:07Speaker 2: two three and then say it right, you're ready? All right, sure,
- 46:11Speaker 2: I say panetic correctly, You're ready? Alright? You ready? One
- 46:14Speaker 2: two three? What a shit show?
- 46:18Speaker 1: What an absolute desast?
- 46:22Speaker 3: Yeah, terrible, No, damn good.
- 46:24Speaker 2: It's dated, it's not funny. It's ending is one of
- 46:27Speaker 2: the worst endings in Simpsons history.
- 46:29Speaker 3: It's full of references that you know, probably even American
- 46:33Speaker 3: people wouldn't get any more, let alone international audiences.
- 46:36Speaker 2: It's terrible and at the time anyone outside of America
- 46:39Speaker 2: probably had no idea.
- 46:40Speaker 3: As well.
- 46:41Speaker 2: We mentioned that they've done political stories in the past
- 46:43Speaker 2: and the Simpsons, but kids can still enjoy the story. Overall,
- 46:45Speaker 2: It's like, I don't really quite get what's going on here,
- 46:48Speaker 2: but I'm still enjoying this. There is nothing to enjoy here.
- 46:51Speaker 3: No, it's just all political wonkery thrown at you, just
- 46:57Speaker 3: ad nauseum. It's terrible, it's terrible.
- 46:59Speaker 2: It felt like the Right is just writing something for themselves,
- 47:02Speaker 2: not giving a shit about them.
- 47:03Speaker 3: I don't think they were even writing for themselves, and
- 47:04Speaker 3: they were writing it for their sort of more. You know,
- 47:07Speaker 3: you get a lot of Harvard types who a lot
- 47:09Speaker 3: of Harvard types who went up in the Simpsons writers room.
- 47:12Speaker 3: I think they wanted to show off to them made
- 47:14Speaker 3: who actually did political science, and we're probably working at
- 47:17Speaker 3: the White House, like, well, I can talk about politics too,
- 47:20Speaker 3: you know. Yeah, but in this way, I forget about it.
- 47:23Speaker 2: The ending was just a disaster in a sense that
- 47:25Speaker 2: so Ralph is now in the running for the presidency.
- 47:29Speaker 2: What is going on?
- 47:30Speaker 3: I don't know. Hopefully this is not canon.
- 47:33Speaker 2: Yeah, Pursnestly is five worst episodes we've ever reviewed.
- 47:37Speaker 3: It's no good at all. It's a Wigham, It's a
- 47:40Speaker 3: Latin term. I would like to respond with a Latin
- 47:42Speaker 3: term of my own, which is osculum meum asinum. That's
- 47:45Speaker 3: Latin for kissed my ass.
- 47:48Speaker 2: What was the biggest surprise for you this season? I
- 47:51Speaker 2: throughout Midnight towb Boy, but what was the one where
- 47:53Speaker 2: you just thought, eh, probably not gonna enjoy this, but
- 47:57Speaker 2: you're pleasantly surprised and you went, oh, you know what
- 48:00Speaker 2: was actually really fun. I think also, even though we
- 48:02Speaker 2: just did it all about Lisa, I was surprised by
- 48:04Speaker 2: how much I enjoyed that one as well. I think that, yeah,
- 48:07Speaker 2: sorry to jump on your band, where I don't. I
- 48:09Speaker 2: don't think you said you were going to enjoy it
- 48:12Speaker 2: as we started reviewing it. As we went through it,
- 48:14Speaker 2: it was actually it's actually a pretty fun taking. Yes,
- 48:17Speaker 2: we said, of all about.
- 48:18Speaker 3: Eve, we were both worried that, oh, this is narrated
- 48:22Speaker 3: by side mel and it's a Lisa centric episode. These
- 48:24Speaker 3: are always death.
- 48:26Speaker 2: Well, we touched on earlier with Martin where it's nice
- 48:28Speaker 2: when the side characters get a bit more substance to them,
- 48:30Speaker 2: and Meil did this in this case. Yeah, Male's never
- 48:32Speaker 2: had substance, really, he's just he talks like this all
- 48:35Speaker 2: the time.
- 48:35Speaker 3: Yeah, and even if he was an underdog or a
- 48:39Speaker 3: whipping boy or anything like that, it's like you kind
- 48:41Speaker 3: of deserve because you're such a knob. Yeah. And in
- 48:44Speaker 3: this case, oh no, you've got a bit of a backstory.
- 48:47Speaker 3: You'll use sparingly and you're used correctly. So yeah, I
- 48:52Speaker 3: think you may be right. I think All About Lisa
- 48:54Speaker 3: was probably the most pleasant surprise.
- 48:55Speaker 2: Well, they basically put us in the shoes of Lisa,
- 48:57Speaker 2: where Lisa understands, Oh, I know why males doing this
- 49:01Speaker 2: because he I know what it's like to get that
- 49:04Speaker 2: adoration from the audience. It's like a drug, and he
- 49:07Speaker 2: just is a junkie. He can't give it up to
- 49:10Speaker 2: the point where he's willing to do this stupid skip
- 49:12Speaker 2: whilst his wife is giving birth. All About Lisa was
- 49:16Speaker 2: a pleasant surprise for me as well. Anything else that
- 49:18Speaker 2: stands out for you, Papa Don't leach was another one
- 49:20Speaker 2: with the Dixie Chicks. Well, like, Okay, who's your favorite
- 49:22Speaker 2: guest role for the season?
- 49:23Speaker 3: Can you? Oh?
- 49:24Speaker 2: That's a really dizzy Chicks were pretty good.
- 49:26Speaker 3: Dixie Chicks were great. I mean, because I maybe incorrectly
- 49:30Speaker 3: have a tendency to view them. Was like, you guys
- 49:32Speaker 3: are taking themselves way too seriously. Yeah, all that kind
- 49:34Speaker 3: of stuff. For them to take the state the piece
- 49:36Speaker 3: the way they did, I thought was was pretty good.
- 49:39Speaker 3: As I mentioned, I like the the Fraser reunion and
- 49:42Speaker 3: thought that was great Tofah Grace Grace was really good.
- 49:46Speaker 3: I like the Jim jarm thing in.
- 49:52Speaker 2: I thought Jack Black was good as the comic bookshop guy,
- 49:54Speaker 2: except they didn't use him anywhere near enough.
- 49:56Speaker 3: N It seemed like really effective, but yeah, yeah, I
- 50:01Speaker 3: just not really used all that well.
- 50:03Speaker 2: Steve A Shemi also good. And I don't want to
- 50:06Speaker 2: know why the cajebo sings.
- 50:07Speaker 3: Plasio Placido Domingo. Yeah, a pretty good coming off the
- 50:13Speaker 3: top Ripe as far as I'm concerned, because again, you
- 50:15Speaker 3: tend to think of like, oh, this guy's going to
- 50:16Speaker 3: be a stuffy opera guy and he turns out to
- 50:18Speaker 3: be just this preening peacock. I thought that was pretty funny.
- 50:22Speaker 2: And Maya Rudolph was pretty good as the symph for Homer.
- 50:25Speaker 3: She was indeed.
- 50:26Speaker 2: Yeah, look a lot of good guest starts we've already mentioned.
- 50:30Speaker 3: Matt Dylan was great.
- 50:30Speaker 2: I think worst guest appearance came from the worst episode
- 50:33Speaker 2: because it annoyed me how Paul he was used. I mean,
- 50:36Speaker 2: Jack Black was pauly used. But John Stewart, that's right.
- 50:39Speaker 2: But yeah, John Stewart when he was big. This is
- 50:44Speaker 2: how you've used him. He's like just in a random
- 50:46Speaker 2: scene with Krusty.
- 50:47Speaker 3: Yeah. Maybe Lance Armstrong as well. I mean, and I'm
- 50:50Speaker 3: not just saying that to be sort of rhetoric. Well,
- 50:52Speaker 3: I never liked Lance Armstrong. I just it didn't seem
- 50:54Speaker 3: well used about Zobe. Yeah, well it was weird because
- 50:59Speaker 3: it didn't really seem to play to Zoey Deschanel's strengths
- 51:02Speaker 3: all that much.
- 51:03Speaker 2: Which is a pro and a con.
- 51:04Speaker 3: I guess. Yeah, I mean I like it when we
- 51:07Speaker 3: tend to appreciate. Yeah, when an actor will come on
- 51:10Speaker 3: and actually act. Yeah, And I don't know, maybe it
- 51:14Speaker 3: speaks more about me. That's like I want Zoe's isel
- 51:16Speaker 3: to do ze things. Yeah.
- 51:19Speaker 2: I like when to get to the end there and
- 51:20Speaker 2: you go, oh it was then a yeah that is
- 51:22Speaker 2: a surprise. Yes, all right. And Glen Close, of course
- 51:25Speaker 2: as barely used and who was young it was Belly
- 51:28Speaker 2: used Beverly. She was great as Leernard Lumpkin so yeah,
- 51:34Speaker 2: a good season for guest stars. A lot of wasteful
- 51:37Speaker 2: appearances as well. You Do Care was another wasteful one.
- 51:40Speaker 3: I thought you mentioned a surprise episode as well as
- 51:43Speaker 3: what it was just a part of love spring feeding style.
- 51:46Speaker 3: But it did like the Sid and Nancy parody that
- 51:47Speaker 3: they you did, like that, Yeah, yeah, I thought that
- 51:50Speaker 3: was a kind of funny, kind of clever, and that's like, oh,
- 51:53Speaker 3: we want we want to do punk rock, but we
- 51:55Speaker 3: can't really do everything that punk rock and tails. Let's
- 51:58Speaker 3: turn Heroin into chocolate.
- 52:01Speaker 1: Kind of works.
- 52:02Speaker 2: So good for that, all right, And we've also posted
- 52:08Speaker 2: in the Patreon group asking for any questions I did
- 52:11Speaker 2: the very last minutes. We probably had nothing come through.
- 52:13Speaker 2: I did like just before we started recording.
- 52:14Speaker 3: I think we had one from the afore mentioned Kadig.
- 52:17Speaker 2: First when he Chris Clark he definitely had a couple
- 52:19Speaker 2: of sleepers a hit in this season. He thought a
- 52:21Speaker 2: couple of sleeper hits, he said, Eternal Moonshine and the
- 52:24Speaker 2: Debarter were both great. Really showed that the Simpsons still
- 52:27Speaker 2: had the ability to put quality at this time, put
- 52:29Speaker 2: out quality at this time. But then you get some
- 52:32Speaker 2: absolute piss takes like e Pluribus Wigham, which is just
- 52:34Speaker 2: an insult of an episode and needs to be locked away.
- 52:36Speaker 2: Over All, a bit of an S season, but the
- 52:38Speaker 2: highs were great.
- 52:39Speaker 3: I think Chris Clark were both of us in that regard. Yeah,
- 52:41Speaker 3: I mean this was I think we came into season nineteen.
- 52:46Speaker 2: I think it's slightly above average. Yeah, I wouldn't say
- 52:49Speaker 2: this was a bad season at all. No, No, I
- 52:51Speaker 2: mean because there's any one episode that really annoyed me,
- 52:55Speaker 2: and that was e pluribus.
- 52:56Speaker 3: Yeah, this is like a B nah, No, like a
- 52:59Speaker 3: C C plus Sea.
- 53:01Speaker 2: Several episodes disappointed me with how they ended, but only
- 53:05Speaker 2: one episode really frustrated me. Yeah, this is yeah A
- 53:08Speaker 2: Sea season seized a degree Katie giaka a Woman of
- 53:12Speaker 2: my Heart. It was an okay season, but I think
- 53:14Speaker 2: I've always loved that ninety show the most, very nostalgic
- 53:17Speaker 2: and definitely the debuted. I loved her a gress my two.
- 53:19Speaker 3: Fags as well. Okay, you and Katie.
- 53:23Speaker 2: Marry it.
- 53:25Speaker 3: All right, But thanks guys for for chiming in with
- 53:28Speaker 3: your comments. Much appreciate it.
- 53:29Speaker 2: Let's open up the the mail bait, shall we see
- 53:34Speaker 2: if there's anything in here to discuss I'll be asked
- 53:36Speaker 2: for some of my two cents stories recently, so let's
- 53:38Speaker 2: see if any of those have come through, or we
- 53:40Speaker 2: do have a my two cents story. Here we go.
- 53:42Speaker 2: Andrew p oh okay, Andrew Palacatty? Is that Andrew p
- 53:47Speaker 2: It's j and is Andrew JP? I wonder it was
- 53:52Speaker 2: Andrew pala Catty? Hi gondwando, Hi guyndwdo okay? So that
- 54:00Speaker 2: like he is in my two cent story for you.
- 54:02Speaker 2: I go to the office one day a week and
- 54:04Speaker 2: unable to organize this figure.
- 54:07Speaker 3: So do I, Andrew? I'm meant to go there five.
- 54:11Speaker 2: Unable to organize lunch the previous night, decided to buy
- 54:14Speaker 2: my lunch from Cole's before work that morning. I normally
- 54:17Speaker 2: buy a microwave meal. Most of them were around ten dollars.
- 54:21Speaker 2: Isn't that insane that microwave meals now ten dollars?
- 54:23Speaker 3: That's nuts.
- 54:24Speaker 2: He's been able to go two for five while I
- 54:27Speaker 2: could afford it. I didn't want to spend that much
- 54:29Speaker 2: on lunch, as you should not want to. I found
- 54:32Speaker 2: individual cups of instant noodles for a dollar ninety each.
- 54:35Speaker 2: I forget what brand they were, and I bought two
- 54:36Speaker 2: of them, prawn and chicken and oriental chicken. Not only
- 54:40Speaker 2: did I save some money, but I also didn't have
- 54:41Speaker 2: to go to our noisy, busy lunch room to use
- 54:44Speaker 2: a microwave. Other than he was to deal with people.
- 54:47Speaker 2: I just needed the boiling water tap in our kitchenet
- 54:49Speaker 2: to make the noodles. So we went with money and convenience.
- 54:52Speaker 2: It was a good lunch too. Go well, Andrew, Andrew,
- 54:54Speaker 2: that's fantastic. Double the noodles and no social direction.
- 55:01Speaker 3: I can't believe that someone is still calling it oriental chicken.
- 55:04Speaker 3: That seems a little najeene sevenies.
- 55:07Speaker 2: But I'm sure it was a taste sensation, yes, proud
- 55:10Speaker 2: and chicken, not a not too taste of taste. Great
- 55:12Speaker 2: together in my opinion.
- 55:13Speaker 3: But nor me not a fan. But Andrew, whatever gets
- 55:16Speaker 3: you through the lunch break is it's all right?
- 55:19Speaker 2: What were you like when you used to have to
- 55:20Speaker 2: go to the office. Did you like to chat as
- 55:23Speaker 2: you're eating lunch or did you just leave me alone
- 55:26Speaker 2: my lunch?
- 55:26Speaker 3: Oh no, it's like I'm skimming out of lunch. Guys.
- 55:29Speaker 2: I would eat in the car just to make sure
- 55:31Speaker 2: I was avoiding everybody. Oh yeah, I mean when we
- 55:34Speaker 2: work together at pop Culture. I mean I would very rarely,
- 55:38Speaker 2: you know. I'm like, yeah, you guys, let's get together
- 55:40Speaker 2: for lunch. And it's like I'm finding a nice quiet corner.
- 55:42Speaker 2: I'm eating my stuff, I'm going for lunch. You come
- 55:45Speaker 2: back two hours later. Well yeah it was a big lunch,
- 55:48Speaker 2: but officially no good times. All right, Andrew March eleven
- 55:58Speaker 2: has offered his plax acts. I've been a long time
- 56:01Speaker 2: supporter Stone cut up. You've read my name at diligently
- 56:04Speaker 2: every episode, but you did mispronounced as we were saying, yes.
- 56:07Speaker 3: Oh, well, is he has given us the proper It's.
- 56:09Speaker 2: Mark Tree eleven, Yeah eleven. Yeah, well, I say true
- 56:12Speaker 2: eleven Tree eleven, Mark Tree eleven, Tree leven. Yes, yes,
- 56:15Speaker 2: I hope they clears it up. But I don't mind
- 56:17Speaker 2: either way. I'm happy to be part of the four thing,
- 56:18Speaker 2: the Scat family. I've also sent you this email with
- 56:20Speaker 2: an invitation to access my plex server. All right, quite
- 56:23Speaker 2: a legend, not a lord, Thank you, Mark?
- 56:28Speaker 3: All right? If we get access to his, that does
- 56:31Speaker 3: that mean he has access to ours? And oh we
- 56:34Speaker 3: can ever want to? Why not? Good to that?
- 56:36Speaker 2: Do you trust him.
- 56:38Speaker 3: Oh yeah, why not?
- 56:39Speaker 2: Okay, this one here is from Mike, and Mike says, Hey,
- 56:44Speaker 2: Dane and Guy good Man, you actually said making just
- 56:49Speaker 2: letting you know that I would pay very handsomely for
- 56:51Speaker 2: a bumper sticker. That says what a lord. My guy
- 56:54Speaker 2: often says, brings me joy every time. And money can't
- 56:56Speaker 2: be used and money can be used for goods and services.
- 57:01Speaker 3: Mike is correct. Okay. Dano frequently talks about merch. He's
- 57:06Speaker 3: always got that business brain working.
- 57:08Speaker 2: Yeah, twenty twenty five is going to be a big year,
- 57:10Speaker 2: getting shipped together, trust me. Oh, new artwork, new logos,
- 57:15Speaker 2: new merch, new co host everything. So who's going to
- 57:22Speaker 2: It's gonna be Guyan who Leonard Bolton. I've got big
- 57:29Speaker 2: hopes for this podcast, The Movie Guide with Malton and
- 57:32Speaker 2: Davis gonna take the world by storm. Oh yeah, it's
- 57:35Speaker 2: the Leonard Bolton, the Leonard Malton and a guy mart
- 57:40Speaker 2: And what's the South bit? Will they say.
- 57:46Speaker 3: Something like that? Certainly we should. It's get in touch
- 57:49Speaker 3: with Parker and Stones and we can cut that bit
- 57:50Speaker 3: out and put it at the start of their podcast.
- 57:53Speaker 3: But yeah, we are doing that. So that's one thing
- 57:55Speaker 3: that's going to be happening. Well, it's happening in twenty
- 57:57Speaker 3: twenty four. It's gonna help us roll into twenty twenty five.
- 58:00Speaker 3: You know, you can talk about Project twenty twenty five
- 58:03Speaker 3: as relates to Trump all you like, but it's really
- 58:05Speaker 3: the Dan Don Guys show moving forward.
- 58:07Speaker 2: It is indeed big year. Indeed, just everything's going to
- 58:10Speaker 2: be getting rebuilding the studio here, it's going to be exciting.
- 58:12Speaker 2: You've got lots of plan It's just funny the time,
- 58:14Speaker 2: but I found the time. We're going to make it happen.
- 58:16Speaker 3: We're building back better than ever, baby.
- 58:17Speaker 2: Yes we are, indeed. Well, I'll read out one more
- 58:20Speaker 2: question here, but.
- 58:21Speaker 3: Thanks for that, Mike that Yeah, look, let's get what
- 58:24Speaker 3: a lord bumper stickers going and Mike, just for you, mate,
- 58:29Speaker 3: what a lord?
- 58:31Speaker 2: Chris Clark who sent us the question here obviously he
- 58:33Speaker 2: says another one here, Hello guy and Dando. I just
- 58:38Speaker 2: had thanks, mate, I just had a quick mailbag question.
- 58:41Speaker 2: What is this single episode of The Simpsons that you've
- 58:43Speaker 2: watched the most number of times? For me, that'd be
- 58:45Speaker 2: Cape fear Lemon of Troy Mardors and the Monorail and
- 58:49Speaker 2: Summer of four foot two that's not a single episode, Chris,
- 58:51Speaker 2: but I'll accept the question anyway.
- 58:53Speaker 3: He's giving us option.
- 58:54Speaker 2: Yeah, which which episodes have you seen? Which ones do
- 58:56Speaker 2: you think you've seen the most? Me personally, for some reason,
- 58:59Speaker 2: I feel like I've seen Lisa's first word a lot.
- 59:02Speaker 2: I feel like they got replayed a lot when I
- 59:04Speaker 2: was a kid. Just the vision of butt on the
- 59:06Speaker 2: clothesline going whoa wow, Maggie makes three. That ending do
- 59:10Speaker 2: it for her was very iconic. Anything from season seven
- 59:14Speaker 2: ish for me because I had tap it off TV.
- 59:17Speaker 2: Season six was when I was lad. No, actually, season
- 59:19Speaker 2: seven was when my first letters start watching The Simpsons properly.
- 59:22Speaker 2: So I taped all those ones season seven as our
- 59:24Speaker 2: new episodes, So I watched that tape all the time.
- 59:27Speaker 2: So season seven for me, whether it be like but
- 59:30Speaker 2: the Fink, the one where March is the Chanel dress,
- 59:32Speaker 2: scenes of struggle, that's a big one for me. Anything
- 59:35Speaker 2: from that ear of The Simpsons was most played for me.
- 59:37Speaker 2: What about you Look? I mentioned last time that the
- 59:40Speaker 2: big one for me. Kids love it?
- 59:41Speaker 3: I mentioned last Temptation at Home were a lot. That's
- 59:44Speaker 3: one that I really enjoy and one that I rewatch.
- 59:46Speaker 3: What is the one with Dustin Hoffman at least Lisa substitute,
- 59:49Speaker 3: Lisa's substitute. Yeah, love that one, I think. And that's
- 59:51Speaker 3: one sam medic sam etic. Yes, that's one that I
- 59:54Speaker 3: rewatched pretty regularly. Also, the Chanel dress one, I think
- 59:58Speaker 3: is one that I definitely was into.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: What has Bobo Rosebud Rosebud? That's that's one that we
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: all have, that teddy from our childhood that we go.
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: I don't need it, but I kind of wish I'm
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: still here. Oh yeah, I still have the teddy from
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: the day I was born. Uncle Darren, what do you
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: call it? What the Lord patron say?
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: I've got so many catchphrases, Yes, uncle down the patron saying.
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: Yeah, this is a lot of the covered here. It's
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: just the one teddy that I kept from my childhood. Yeah,
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: more from that episode.
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: It's more like, you know, you've got the waking up
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: Bobo Bobo then Nobo Nobo bring make sure.
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: There's so much love in that one, so much love. Yeah.
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: Also another question from Chris Clark. My question to you
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: also is what are your lesser quoted favorite quotes from
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: the Simpsons. One of my one of his all time favorites,
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: and something that I think will tickle guy's funny bone
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: is bart saying, so, I says to Mabel, I says
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: in the Mysterious Voyage of Homer, thanks for the hours
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: of last So what are the least lesser known quotes
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: that you sent to quote a lot? I think you're
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: a devil advocated.
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: I love that.
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: It's not a quote, but something that has made its
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: way into my everyday vogue is anytimes I open a
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: pack of tortillas or something and the little moisture thing
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: comes out, It's like, see, because of me, they have
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: a warning. Usually saying this to myself, remember saying that,
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: but just it just blurted out.
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: But it was during a.
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: Time when my ex wife and I were not on
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: good term still together. Yeah, but when Budon's kitchen, the
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: things secret, I mean they were warning and she's like,
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: why what are you saying? Like it's going to be
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: too hard to explain. We don't work anymore about to
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: explain it. Oh well, feel bad about that and we'll
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: be one more question here. Samuel One Kenobi, Samuel one Canobi,
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: the we go what a name? Okay, looking at his email,
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: I don't think that's his name, but Samuel here we go.
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: Is there any classic Simpsons episodes seasons two through eight
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: that you think isn't as good as or what you
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: or that you would skip or rewatch, not including the
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: clip shows. For me, the episode I always say is
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: my System my sitter the whe where at least becomes
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: the babysitter and Bart's just an overall dick to her
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: for a reason, just being spiteful. That's the one that
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: I really don't like is my sister my sitter. When
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: I was a kid, I tended to skip. I really
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: didn't like the one where Bob becomes the is the
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: mayor of Springfield, right, I just think the politically that
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: one political one is didn't really I didn't get what
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: was going on. So yeah, oh gosh. Any episodes that
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: you sort of go, yeah, whatever.
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: This is not potensional hot take coming in Kate fire No, no, no, no.
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: I mean, I think Kate Fier is kind of assumed
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: for my part. It's not one that I dislike. In fact,
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: I think I think it's actually pretty well put together,
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: and but I like the idea of it, and I
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: like it more in theory than I like it in practice.
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: It's not one that necessarily go back to is probably
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: much busins the monail.
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, I love much versus Monrae. There's lots of
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: love in there. But I can see why it wouldn't
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: it for you.
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's not it's not that even doesn't
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: work for me. It's just like, I know it's on
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: so many top ten lists and so many and it's
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: it's kind of a Brian.
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: I also one that people can remember easily. So when
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: they get what's you favorite episode, you go much of
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: us the Monora is like, oh, yeah, you know your Simpsons. Yeah,
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: it's not it's not like a sleeper. It's just everyone
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: knows that episode.
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I know it. I like it. I don't necessarily
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: love it. So there's not really answering your question.
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: Maybe you dislike it because everyone likes it.
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: As well because I'm a stop because I'm a shocking person.
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: All right, guys, Well, thank you so much for your
