- 0:32what's going on everybody
- 0:34it's lunchtime I'm the
- 0:36clydesdale it's lunch with
- 0:37the clydesdale let's go
- 0:39it's thursday afternoon
- 0:40what a day what a day at
- 0:42work um my gosh um most of
- 0:48you know who hang out here
- 0:50is that I actually work from home um
- 0:54Today's the day that I get
- 0:56done all my weekly reports.
- 0:59Tomorrow is my one-on-one with my boss.
- 1:01And so I get everything kind
- 1:02of caught up today, report it out.
- 1:04And then we meet about
- 1:05whatever I put in that report.
- 1:08tomorrow.
- 1:10And I had my evaluation yesterday,
- 1:12which went fine.
- 1:14Verbally, lots of like,
- 1:16kudos and compliments on what I'm doing.
- 1:19But then with the state of Ohio,
- 1:21nobody gets anything more than a meets.
- 1:25So I got meets on everything,
- 1:26but I was told that I'm
- 1:27doing an amazing job.
- 1:29So that was good.
- 1:31But today, my gosh, like,
- 1:35So I work from home.
- 1:36We have a mandate that we
- 1:39have to have our camera on
- 1:41in any meeting that we go to.
- 1:44So we can't go into a
- 1:45meeting with the camera off
- 1:46and do a Teams meeting
- 1:47without people seeing us.
- 1:50In addition to that,
- 1:51we have to adhere to the
- 1:56dress code policy.
- 1:58And that is head to toe,
- 2:00adhere to the dress code policy.
- 2:03So apparently...
- 2:05This morning,
- 2:07the administration is all
- 2:08upset that people are not
- 2:09turning their cameras on in all meetings,
- 2:12and they are cracking down
- 2:14on the dress code for
- 2:16people who are working from home.
- 2:20It boggles my mind that this
- 2:22is the stuff that they're focusing on.
- 2:26I mean, it's a rule.
- 2:26I follow it.
- 2:27I turn my camera on for every meeting.
- 2:31I get all dressed up for
- 2:33every meeting that I have online,
- 2:37even though it's as stupid
- 2:38as stupid can be.
- 2:46And so, but today they are,
- 2:49we were told that they are
- 2:50taking down names of people
- 2:52who are in meetings without
- 2:53their camera on or that are
- 2:55not adhering to the dress
- 2:56code by the letter of the
- 2:58law and repercussions will
- 3:00come from that.
- 3:03Uh, Lynn head to toe.
- 3:05What?
- 3:05Yeah.
- 3:06You have to adhere to the full dress code,
- 3:07meaning, uh, no tennis shoes.
- 3:10Um, you must wear dress pants.
- 3:12Um, no, no jeans, no sweats, none of that.
- 3:16Um, you must wear a collared shirt.
- 3:19Um,
- 3:22Yeah.
- 3:22You must have your hair done.
- 3:24Um, all of that kind of stuff.
- 3:27It is, it, it's just as trained to live,
- 3:30put it, it's just lame.
- 3:33Um,
- 3:36Jose says,
- 3:37but is the job getting done and
- 3:40it's not hurting the
- 3:40business financially?
- 3:42Well, what's crazy about me is I,
- 3:44all I do is test systems.
- 3:46I don't even meet with the public.
- 3:48The only P I meet with coworkers, I don't,
- 3:50the public never sees me.
- 3:52And all I do is when our
- 3:55vendors create an
- 3:57enhancement to our system,
- 3:58I test to make sure it
- 3:59works and doesn't break anything.
- 4:03And so,
- 4:05But anyway,
- 4:06I do what they tell me because
- 4:10I could retire today if I wanted to.
- 4:12I won't make a ton of money
- 4:13if I walked out.
- 4:17But I'm just trying to get
- 4:19as much money as I can
- 4:20before I do retire.
- 4:22So I'm just trying to go as long as I can.
- 4:27Lynn says called silent
- 4:28firing also happened with
- 4:29companies that demanded
- 4:30people go back to the office.
- 4:32That that's exactly what we
- 4:34were saying today in our
- 4:35group chats that not enough
- 4:38people have left.
- 4:39And so they're trying to,
- 4:41to piss people off so that
- 4:42they walk out the door.
- 4:44But yeah, it's, it's just crazy.
- 4:50Crazy.
- 4:51So that's why I love these
- 4:53Lunch with the Clydesdales,
- 4:54because I can come down here,
- 4:55I get a breath from my day,
- 4:59and I get to hang out with you all.
- 5:02So it's a lot of fun.
- 5:04Just a little housekeeping stuff.
- 5:06Last night,
- 5:06Kat had her second episode of her show.
- 5:09I listened to it before bed.
- 5:12She is...
- 5:15Uh, she's killing it, man.
- 5:18Uh, I'm so proud of her the way that she,
- 5:20it is not an easy thing to
- 5:22do a show by yourself and
- 5:24talk into a camera.
- 5:26Um, and two shows in,
- 5:27she is getting really
- 5:28comfortable at just kind of
- 5:30hanging out and talking
- 5:31into the camera and the chats are very,
- 5:35very engaging, which is awesome.
- 5:38And, uh, she gets to react to that.
- 5:41And she's so transparent.
- 5:42It's been really,
- 5:43really fun to kind of see
- 5:45her grow with that.
- 5:46And super excited for her.
- 5:49A train to live says love cat show.
- 5:51Yeah, she's doing great.
- 5:52Two episodes in.
- 5:54And I think she's deciding
- 5:56to try to keep it in that
- 5:57Wednesday to five p.m.
- 5:58Eastern time time slot to
- 6:01kind of go forward with that.
- 6:05I'll insist.
- 6:05Sorry for that, Scott.
- 6:06Don't be, I mean,
- 6:08I'm going to play by the
- 6:08rules and I'm going to get
- 6:10as much in as I can before I retire.
- 6:13Thankfully, I am at a qualifying point.
- 6:16part of retirement,
- 6:17so I could walk out the
- 6:18door today and get a check
- 6:19the rest of my life from the state.
- 6:22Most of it's money I've
- 6:23invested into myself, but yeah,
- 6:27I could walk away today and I'm fine.
- 6:30It's my coworkers that I
- 6:31feel bad for who have not
- 6:33reached those levels yet to walk away.
- 6:38I'm just old enough that I
- 6:40kind of hit it with the
- 6:41years of service I have
- 6:43earlier than some.
- 6:48So yeah.
- 6:51Um, Corey says cat show was great.
- 6:53She's good at storytelling.
- 6:55Yeah.
- 6:55Like she just,
- 6:57I don't even think she used
- 6:57visuals last night.
- 6:58She just was like going off the cuff,
- 7:01talking about the date she's had, um,
- 7:04where they've gone wrong,
- 7:05where they've gone, right.
- 7:06Um,
- 7:07where she almost you know
- 7:09kind of fell for someone
- 7:10and then uh they kind of
- 7:13backed away and um and then
- 7:15she just doesn't want to
- 7:16play those games anymore
- 7:17like at fifty two she's
- 7:18ready to like just be
- 7:20honest and blunt about it
- 7:21and let's move forward
- 7:22which I think is really
- 7:23refreshing to see and hear
- 7:26and uh and stuff you don't
- 7:27see on other shows so she's
- 7:30doing awesome she is doing so awesome um
- 7:37One more fun thing before we
- 7:39get into a little bit of CrossFit,
- 7:40and that is I have been
- 7:43working on this project in my spare time.
- 7:46I don't know if people saw
- 7:46this on my Clydesdale
- 7:48CrossFitter Instagram, but I have...
- 7:53My relaxation in my adult
- 7:55life has become Legos,
- 7:56and I never played with Legos as a kid,
- 7:59but as an adult,
- 8:00I just have grown to fall
- 8:01in love with them.
- 8:03And so I've been putting
- 8:04together the DeLorean from
- 8:05the Back to the Future movies.
- 8:07It's the biggest Lego project I have ever,
- 8:10ever done.
- 8:13And it was like twenty five
- 8:14hundred pieces to put this all together.
- 8:17And it took me probably a
- 8:19little over a month because
- 8:20I just I dabble at it a
- 8:21little bit here and a
- 8:22little bit there as a relaxation.
- 8:24Something about clicking the
- 8:25bricks together is just soothing to me.
- 8:31So, yeah, I put this together.
- 8:34Here's some pictures from it.
- 8:35Marty and Doc.
- 8:38But it was it has a lot of detail to it.
- 8:45And on the inside,
- 8:47I couldn't get a good picture of it,
- 8:48but like right back here is
- 8:50the actual flux capacitor
- 8:52and it does light up.
- 8:54And then the date boards are on the front.
- 8:57It's very, very detailed.
- 9:00There you can kind of see
- 9:01the flux capacitor and it
- 9:03does light up and it even
- 9:04has like little charts and stuff in it.
- 9:09But yeah.
- 9:10Had a lot of fun with this one.
- 9:12As it was coming together at the end,
- 9:14it really, really was a lot of fun.
- 9:18I'm kind of seeing the
- 9:19little accoutrements that come with it.
- 9:22There you can see the date
- 9:23panels of where you're set,
- 9:24where you're going, where you're at,
- 9:27where you've been.
- 9:29But yeah, had a lot of fun.
- 9:33But now it's complete,
- 9:34so I've got to find something else to do.
- 9:37I have one more big,
- 9:39big Lego set that I haven't
- 9:40opened the box of.
- 9:43And so maybe that'll be mine,
- 9:44but I think I'll wait a few
- 9:44weeks before I dive back in.
- 9:48And it's actually bigger than this one.
- 9:50It's actually a Nintendo
- 9:52with super Mario brothers
- 9:53and you build the cartridge,
- 9:54you build the game set,
- 9:55you build the TV and you
- 9:58build the controller.
- 10:00But it's almost three thousand pieces.
- 10:02So.
- 10:05Anyway, super fun stuff for me.
- 10:07Just wanted to share that.
- 10:12Corey says when this baby
- 10:13hits eighty eight miles per hour,
- 10:14you're going to see some shit.
- 10:16Yep.
- 10:17Uh, that's awesome.
- 10:18Scott, you have a place to display it.
- 10:20So I had, you see some like right there,
- 10:23like there's soldier field.
- 10:24There's the pirate parrot.
- 10:26Uh, there's a Penn state stadium.
- 10:28Um, I put some back there.
- 10:30I have some in my living room.
- 10:32It's the only thing my wife
- 10:33lets me put up there.
- 10:35Um, so yeah, a funny story.
- 10:38My daughter worked at
- 10:39O'Reilly auto parts and I
- 10:40called her one day and
- 10:42disguise my voice and asked
- 10:43if they had a flux capacitor.
- 10:45That's awesome.
- 10:46That's one of my favorite movies as a kid.
- 10:49I really,
- 10:49really am a big fan of that movie.
- 10:53So, yep.
- 10:55The next thing I wanted to
- 10:56talk about real quick is I
- 10:59think we're seeing our
- 11:00first effect of the WFP and
- 11:03the CrossFit Games season
- 11:05happening at the same time.
- 11:07And Barbell Spin reported this recently.
- 11:11probably today, maybe last night,
- 11:12they talked about it on
- 11:13their show last night,
- 11:15that there are a group of
- 11:17athletes that are electing
- 11:18to skip the French
- 11:19throwdown for the WFP Tour Event One.
- 11:23So most of these are
- 11:25European athletes are
- 11:26making the choice to fly to
- 11:28the United States,
- 11:29compete in Indianapolis for
- 11:31the WFP instead of going to
- 11:36the French throwdown to try
- 11:37to qualify for the CrossFit Games.
- 11:40And where I think that it's
- 11:42not the athletes going that
- 11:43I think is affecting
- 11:44CrossFit and the CrossFit
- 11:45game season directly,
- 11:47I think what it is is...
- 11:50CrossFit made the decision
- 11:51that they wanted to be more
- 11:52hands-off this year and
- 11:54they wanted to pass on the
- 11:57liability and the
- 11:58responsibility of
- 11:59qualifying athletes to the
- 12:01games to partners.
- 12:04And they,
- 12:05and they were going to take a
- 12:06hands-off approach.
- 12:07So now you have this partner
- 12:09in the French throw down
- 12:10that has been a partner of
- 12:11CrossFit for many,
- 12:12many years and they are
- 12:14losing a good chunk of their field and
- 12:18to another event from a competing league.
- 12:22And I'm wondering if this
- 12:25continues to happen moving forward,
- 12:28is CrossFit going to lose
- 12:30these trusted and loyal
- 12:32partners because they're
- 12:34not filling their seats or
- 12:36not able to sell tickets
- 12:38because the best athletes
- 12:40are walking away from competing there?
- 12:46Yeah.
- 12:51Lynn makes this point.
- 12:54TTT raised this point.
- 12:55They are competing for two
- 12:56spots in a live competition
- 12:58and online for ten.
- 12:59Which would you rather?
- 13:01I think it depends on the athlete.
- 13:02I mean,
- 13:02if you listen to Abby Domet last
- 13:04night on Barbell Spin,
- 13:07She hates online competition.
- 13:09She doesn't do well in online competition.
- 13:11She would rather go to an
- 13:12in-person place to compete.
- 13:14And she actually viewed
- 13:17mayhem as her one shot to get in.
- 13:19So that she mentally was
- 13:21focused on that one shot to
- 13:23get in because that is what
- 13:25is more beneficial to her.
- 13:26And she does not like online competitions.
- 13:30I look I look at my two
- 13:31co-hosts from sunday night
- 13:33carolyn and jamie carolyn
- 13:35loves competing online
- 13:36she's done it a bunch in
- 13:37her career she loves it she
- 13:40does really well in it
- 13:41she's finished top five in
- 13:42the open the last two years
- 13:44um and then you take
- 13:45someone like jamie who
- 13:46hates competing online she
- 13:48would much rather race
- 13:49someone side by side um
- 13:52and do that as a way to
- 13:53qualify for different
- 13:54things so I think that you
- 13:57have to really look at the
- 13:58individual athlete and
- 13:59maybe that's a good point
- 14:00to bring up on sunday night
- 14:01where maybe we can talk
- 14:03about uh competing online
- 14:05versus competing in person
- 14:07and preferences because I
- 14:08think you'll get a good um
- 14:10counterbalance between the
- 14:11two of them because they do
- 14:12really feel differently
- 14:14about that specifically so
- 14:19But I do think the French
- 14:20Snowdown is not going to be
- 14:21happy that all these
- 14:22athletes are leaving.
- 14:23Whether the athletes choose
- 14:25to compete online or in person,
- 14:30they only have so many shots.
- 14:32And just walking away from
- 14:34one shot to compete for the
- 14:35games for the opportunity at WFP is
- 14:39in the challenger series or
- 14:42as a challenger to it is a risk as well.
- 14:45So it's going to be
- 14:46interesting to see where this goes.
- 14:48And I'm not saying that this
- 14:49is like the nail in a
- 14:51coffin or anything like that.
- 14:55I just think that it's the
- 14:57first like real effect
- 14:58we're seeing from the WFP
- 15:01season happening at the
- 15:02exact same time as a
- 15:03CrossFit game season.
- 15:09Meredith says,
- 15:09it depends on if your strong
- 15:11suit is online versus exactly.
- 15:17Corey says, I'm with Jamie.
- 15:18I abhor online qualifiers.
- 15:20Line us up and let us go.
- 15:21I mean,
- 15:23Take Corey, for example,
- 15:25at the Masters Fitness
- 15:27Collective a couple years ago.
- 15:29He is the last person in the door.
- 15:32And he won an event and
- 15:35nearly won a second because
- 15:38he's so much better in
- 15:39person than he is online.
- 15:43And there's a lot of people
- 15:44that are opposite of that.
- 15:46Um,
- 15:46this whole kale layman thing's been
- 15:48happening all week.
- 15:49That is a complete flip.
- 15:51Um,
- 15:52so interesting there has the French
- 15:56throw down announced their
- 15:57prices that I don't know.
- 16:00Um,
- 16:01With everything that's been
- 16:02going on in my personal life, Lynn,
- 16:04I have not had the
- 16:05opportunity to keep up with
- 16:07all those details as much as I'd like.
- 16:11But now that mama's home and
- 16:12she's feeling better,
- 16:13and then if I can get my
- 16:15daughter moved to Montana,
- 16:17hopefully things slow down
- 16:18for me a little bit and I
- 16:20can start following up on
- 16:23those things a little bit more.
- 16:28when we look at the
- 16:28in-person qualifying events,
- 16:30we actually have a week off this week.
- 16:33There is none happening this week.
- 16:35And the next one that goes
- 16:36live is Copa Sur,
- 16:38which is the week after this.
- 16:40So this weekend,
- 16:42no CrossFit qualifying event.
- 16:45The following weekend,
- 16:46we have Copa Sur in Brazil,
- 16:51I believe it is.
- 16:51And
- 16:54And so we'll get some people
- 16:56from South America
- 16:57qualified to the games.
- 17:07But I am interested to know
- 17:09if they've done anything
- 17:10about their prize money yet.
- 17:16So we have that.
- 17:19Um,
- 17:20the other thing I was going to look at
- 17:22today with you guys is, um,
- 17:24I have a software that kind
- 17:25of helps me with, um, SEO with my,
- 17:29with the podcast and stuff like that.
- 17:31But it also shows me some numbers, uh,
- 17:34with other, uh,
- 17:36sites as I go out on them.
- 17:38And so I wanted to pull up mayhem, uh,
- 17:44And Lynn said she went to dig,
- 17:45but didn't pull up anything
- 17:47on money for French showdown.
- 17:51So I don't know if you can see it,
- 17:53but over here on this side of the,
- 17:55I'll try to blow it up a little bit.
- 17:59Over here,
- 18:00I have a summary of some
- 18:02information from day one of
- 18:05the Mayhem Classic.
- 18:06So this is the live stream from YouTube.
- 18:09You can see that there.
- 18:11Here are the view totals after a week.
- 18:15We're a little bit short of a week, but...
- 18:18But I thought this was a
- 18:18good time to kind of look
- 18:19at the view numbers.
- 18:22So there was one hundred
- 18:23ninety eight thousand total
- 18:24views for the day one
- 18:26stream of the Mayhem classic.
- 18:30There were fifty five
- 18:31comments and two thousand eighty five,
- 18:37two thousand eight hundred
- 18:38and fifty likes on the video.
- 18:40There was also an additional
- 18:42one hundred and fifty one
- 18:43likes from Facebook.
- 18:45So this must have not only
- 18:46broadcast on YouTube,
- 18:47but also on Facebook as well.
- 18:51So two hundred thousand,
- 18:53just under two hundred
- 18:53thousand views for day one.
- 18:57If we look at day two,
- 19:00the numbers slide a little bit,
- 19:01which actually surprised me
- 19:04because everything was so
- 19:05close after day one.
- 19:07I thought that the numbers
- 19:08would be as good, if not better.
- 19:13So this, just to show this is live,
- 19:16Mayhem Classic day two,
- 19:18and we have a hundred and
- 19:19eighty nine thousand views,
- 19:21just about ten thousand
- 19:22views shorter than day one.
- 19:25There were forty three comments,
- 19:27a little bit less and
- 19:28twenty two hundred likes
- 19:30with only eighteen likes from Facebook.
- 19:34So less likes,
- 19:35less comments and about ten
- 19:36thousand less views for for mayhem.
- 19:41But still, you know,
- 19:43one hundred ninety thousand
- 19:44views for a qualifying
- 19:46event going to the CrossFit Games.
- 19:50my question to you guys is,
- 19:52are those good numbers?
- 19:53Do you think those are good
- 19:54numbers for what we expected, uh,
- 19:57for people to tune in?
- 19:59I,
- 19:59I kind of expected them to be a little
- 20:01bit more, but the field they had with,
- 20:03with as close as the races were,
- 20:06I thought we'd see a little more, um,
- 20:09a little more viewership
- 20:11over the two days.
- 20:13Um,
- 20:15than what we see here uh I'm
- 20:18anxious to see what you
- 20:19guys thought if we if you
- 20:20thought it'd be more or
- 20:21less um I thought that the
- 20:26broadcast was was really
- 20:28well done I thought that
- 20:29Rich and Angela were funny
- 20:31I thought Sean was loose
- 20:33and had a lot of fun during
- 20:35the broadcast um I thought the uh the
- 20:42announcers on the floor, uh,
- 20:44Rory and Bella did a great
- 20:45job with the interviews.
- 20:47Um,
- 20:49and it was a condensed weekend where
- 20:50you didn't have to, uh,
- 20:53you didn't have to spend a
- 20:54whole day watching.
- 20:55It didn't start until late,
- 20:57like four o'clock Eastern
- 20:58time on Saturday and, uh,
- 21:01was done by five or six on Sunday.
- 21:04Um, so yeah.
- 21:07I don't know.
- 21:08I just,
- 21:09I guess I expected a little bit more.
- 21:11Jose thought,
- 21:12he thought the expectations were lower.
- 21:14So, okay.
- 21:17Meredith said the stream seems solid,
- 21:19didn't have major issues.
- 21:20I agree.
- 21:22I'm just curious, like, I don't,
- 21:24I guess I don't really know
- 21:26what numbers they were looking for,
- 21:28but I thought that they
- 21:29were solid numbers.
- 21:30I just affect,
- 21:31I thought they'd be a little
- 21:33bit over two hundred K.
- 21:35like two fifty maybe uh for
- 21:37the weekend just because of
- 21:38it being mayhem um being a
- 21:41more intimate setting uh
- 21:43with a with a great field
- 21:45with some popular athletes
- 21:47um I don't know that's just
- 21:51what I thought I guess I
- 21:53was wrong a little bit but
- 21:54still solid numbers I think
- 21:55that enough to be proud of uh
- 21:59I think I heard rich say
- 22:00that they they broke even
- 22:03on the event until he
- 22:05offered up the extra six
- 22:06grand at the end three for
- 22:09the winner of the last
- 22:10event for each male and
- 22:12female so if they broke
- 22:13even on the event with the
- 22:15broadcast they pulled off
- 22:17and the event they pulled
- 22:18off that's actually pretty
- 22:19good in year one um it's
- 22:21going to be interesting to
- 22:22see how they do going forward
- 22:28Um, Jose, I think they are solid.
- 22:30Maybe they felt it was going
- 22:31to have Waza vibes with streaming.
- 22:34It was way better than Waza way,
- 22:36way better.
- 22:37They actually brought the
- 22:38games guy in to run the production, uh,
- 22:41behind the scenes.
- 22:43Um,
- 22:45So, um,
- 22:47I think that was why the stream was
- 22:49pretty solid, uh, from a production,
- 22:51from a production standpoint,
- 22:53we didn't have any glitches.
- 22:55I think I'd only saw one camera go down,
- 22:58um, while they were on the floor.
- 23:00Um, but that's going to happen.
- 23:02That happens at football games in the NFL.
- 23:05Um, so that's going to happen too.
- 23:09Uh, Lynn says that it was,
- 23:11it was a ticket with no seats.
- 23:14I know.
- 23:16I think that's,
- 23:18and if you heard Dave in
- 23:19his week in review,
- 23:20like he loved the way it
- 23:22came off and that they're
- 23:25going to lean into like
- 23:27maybe some bigger
- 23:27affiliates hosting some of
- 23:29these events to keep it in the affiliate,
- 23:32but it's going to mean more
- 23:33boutique ticket sales,
- 23:36meaning you're going to have great venue,
- 23:38great access, all that kind of stuff,
- 23:40but you're going to have to
- 23:41pay for it as well.
- 23:45Corey said the stream was fantastic.
- 23:46First event of the season.
- 23:48Most mayhem athletes don't
- 23:50think I expected there to
- 23:51be huge numbers on the streams.
- 23:55I guess I'm,
- 23:55I'm just a nerd and I don't
- 23:57realize like that.
- 23:58I am part of this really
- 24:00small group that wants to
- 24:01watch everything.
- 24:03Um, so.
- 24:07Um, and then Jose brings up the point.
- 24:09It was great revenue for Cookville because,
- 24:11uh, lots of people coming to the town, um,
- 24:15athletes, their entourages, the,
- 24:17the crowds, um, different media outlets.
- 24:20That was pretty cool.
- 24:24Uh,
- 24:25trained to live the drones during the
- 24:26run was Epic.
- 24:27Yeah.
- 24:28Until the one crashed.
- 24:31Um, but yeah, that was Epic, uh,
- 24:34And but they've done that before.
- 24:36The games has done that with
- 24:38the runs out of the stadium.
- 24:42And then when they do like
- 24:43the little four hundreds and come back in,
- 24:45they did that in twenty
- 24:46three and twenty one when
- 24:49they had to run out of the
- 24:50Coliseum and back in in Madison.
- 24:54And they actually flew the
- 24:55drones in the door of the
- 24:58Coliseum out onto the floor
- 24:59and then it would follow people back out.
- 25:02It was pretty wild.
- 25:09Um, so yeah,
- 25:12so I thought we'd just take a
- 25:13look at those, um,
- 25:16just some interesting
- 25:17numbers to kind of look at.
- 25:18And it's going to be
- 25:19interesting now going forward.
- 25:21Those were the numbers of mayhem.
- 25:22What are the other in
- 25:23affiliate semifinals or not
- 25:25in affiliate in-person
- 25:27semifinals going to look
- 25:28like from a number basis as
- 25:29we go forward?
- 25:34Corey says,
- 25:34two hundred dollars for a
- 25:35boutique experience isn't
- 25:36terrible for the access
- 25:37that look like people got
- 25:39right on top of the
- 25:39athletes from what it
- 25:40looked like for every event.
- 25:43Yeah.
- 25:45When I was at Mayhem in
- 25:46twenty when they did the
- 25:47first Mayhem classic,
- 25:49they actually did have one
- 25:50set of bleachers for the
- 25:53lack of better term at the finish line.
- 25:57So you got that staggered up
- 25:59and it was probably only
- 26:01like eight to ten rows of bleachers.
- 26:05So still pretty small and
- 26:07intimate and that boutique feel.
- 26:10And then the sidelines and
- 26:11the start line were what
- 26:13you saw at this mayhem
- 26:14classic where it was just
- 26:17standing room only on the fence.
- 26:23Lynn brings up, which is great, Jose,
- 26:27but that's pricey if you're
- 26:29driving in hotels, food,
- 26:31you'd just rather stream it.
- 26:34Yeah.
- 26:35Unless you want to support Cookville.
- 26:37Um, but I will say this too, Lynn,
- 26:39like when I went to Cookville,
- 26:40it was one of the cheapest
- 26:42places to get a hotel,
- 26:44to get food from all of the
- 26:46places that they have
- 26:47semifinals and other events.
- 26:50Um, I found that to be way more, um,
- 26:54doable from an expense
- 26:56standpoint than other
- 26:57places that I've gone to in
- 27:00the past for other events.
- 27:02like that West coast, um,
- 27:05semi-final in Pasadena two years ago.
- 27:08Um,
- 27:08I spent so much money getting Jamie and
- 27:11I out there.
- 27:12Um, the hotel was just insane.
- 27:15Um, where in Cookville you, I would in the,
- 27:19in like,
- 27:20I got a hotel room for under a
- 27:21hundred bucks a night.
- 27:23It was, yeah, it was crazy.
- 27:34yeah that I that I don't
- 27:35know lynn I don't know when
- 27:36the tickets were released
- 27:37because I knew I couldn't
- 27:38get there with everything
- 27:39I've had going on um so but
- 27:46cookville's one of those
- 27:46places if you've never been
- 27:47you got to go I mean mayhem
- 27:49is the pictures don't do it
- 27:53justice it is just a
- 27:54massive massive building um
- 27:58And, uh, and it's the Mecca for CrossFit.
- 28:02You have to be, um, you have to,
- 28:07you have to go if you get
- 28:08the opportunity.
- 28:09It's so much fun there.
- 28:11Um, and then there's a,
- 28:12there's a part of Cookville,
- 28:14the town that's very old school, like, um,
- 28:17sidewalks and little
- 28:19boutique shops and Ralph's donuts and, um,
- 28:25an ice cream shop, like really cool,
- 28:27really cool stuff.
- 28:28um really if I if I had to
- 28:31pick a place in the world
- 28:32to live the rest of my life
- 28:33retired cookville might be
- 28:35it um jose says media pit
- 28:40was limited too but luckily
- 28:41they limited media
- 28:43credentials and was still
- 28:44able to get a few good
- 28:45shots cool it's awesome I
- 28:49heard I heard that the
- 28:50media team there did a
- 28:51really good job
- 28:51communicating um everything
- 28:54out so that was awesome too
- 29:00Um,
- 29:01so the last thing I just wanted to talk
- 29:02about is, um,
- 29:04I've been doing this podcast now for,
- 29:06oh gosh, five and a half years.
- 29:08Uh,
- 29:08the reason I started it was kind of a
- 29:12twofold thing when
- 29:14When CrossFit had their
- 29:15original podcast and Sivan was doing it,
- 29:18it was the first podcast.
- 29:20It introduced me to podcasts.
- 29:22I was such a geek into the CrossFit space.
- 29:25To have a podcast dedicated
- 29:26to the thing that I loved,
- 29:29I would listen to every episode.
- 29:33And so that got me introduced to podcasts.
- 29:35And then Pat McAfee...
- 29:40was next for me and he was a
- 29:42big inspiration because of
- 29:44all the people that told
- 29:45him no that he couldn't do
- 29:47sports media that he tried
- 29:49to get into the nfl program
- 29:52that helps people move on
- 29:53to sports media he got denied four times
- 29:58And so he decided to build his own thing.
- 30:02And he did that by going to
- 30:04Barstool Sports for a minute.
- 30:05Then he left them and opened
- 30:06and started his own thing,
- 30:08started a podcast.
- 30:09It grew into a YouTube channel, which...
- 30:12Then grew into being
- 30:14licensed by Sirius XM and a
- 30:16couple other places, CBS.
- 30:18And then that led to a deal
- 30:21with DraftKings, I believe it was.
- 30:25And then after that,
- 30:27then he got the deal with
- 30:28ESPN where his show is licensed there.
- 30:31And now he's one of the
- 30:33biggest things in sports media.
- 30:36But because he did it for
- 30:39nothing to start that all up,
- 30:41and when people told him no,
- 30:43and where he got it to,
- 30:45I've admired the work ethic
- 30:48and the stick-to-itiveness
- 30:49that he has had throughout
- 30:50the whole process.
- 30:51But last night was his big
- 30:53night out in Pittsburgh.
- 30:55I grew up just outside of Pittsburgh.
- 30:58And so I was super excited
- 31:00to watch this thing that he
- 31:03was putting together as
- 31:04like a thank you to his
- 31:05hometown and something that
- 31:07he had envisioned after
- 31:09years of spending time with
- 31:10his grandmother watching variety shows.
- 31:13I will say I was so excited.
- 31:15The bar was probably set way
- 31:17too high in my head.
- 31:18And when it came on,
- 31:19there was a little bit of a
- 31:20letdown for me.
- 31:22I was really excited to see it.
- 31:27He...
- 31:29did some storytelling on the
- 31:30front end of just how his
- 31:31career developed and, uh,
- 31:33growing up a Pittsburgher
- 31:35and what that meant and all
- 31:37of that kind of stuff,
- 31:37which was pretty cool.
- 31:39And then, uh,
- 31:40jelly roll came out and sang some songs.
- 31:43Um, and then it,
- 31:45it got weird and they did
- 31:47some sumo wrestling and stuff that I just,
- 31:49I didn't understand.
- 31:51Um,
- 31:52there was also one of the new wrestlers
- 31:54that, uh,
- 31:55I didn't really know him very
- 31:56well came out.
- 31:59And just when I was about to give up on it,
- 32:03out came Wiz Khalifa, who,
- 32:06if you don't know who that is,
- 32:07he sings a song, black and yellow,
- 32:09black and yellow, black and yellow.
- 32:11And in Pittsburgh, that's a huge song.
- 32:13And he is a native Pittsburgher as well.
- 32:16And so he came out and sang
- 32:17that song as well as the work hard,
- 32:23play hard, work hard, play hard.
- 32:25I don't know the names of those songs,
- 32:27but he did that.
- 32:28And then he said,
- 32:29he's going to bring out a
- 32:30buddy of his and Snoop dog
- 32:31came out and man,
- 32:34I was so freaking pumped up.
- 32:39I don't know what it is
- 32:40about live music and people
- 32:44like Snoop that never
- 32:45disappoint performing live,
- 32:48but it just flipped that
- 32:49whole show for me.
- 32:51Um,
- 32:53I could sit and watch Snoop
- 32:55and his buddies do whatever
- 32:57they wanted to do on stage for a while.
- 33:00But it was awesome.
- 33:02Still a little bit of a
- 33:02letdown overall for being
- 33:04such a huge McAfee fan.
- 33:07I don't know where they're
- 33:08going from this.
- 33:09I like their normal show
- 33:10better than I like this
- 33:11special thing that they did.
- 33:14But the concert stuff was really cool.
- 33:17The production was done by
- 33:19WWE as a favor to Pat.
- 33:21So there was a lot of cool
- 33:23like visuals and, and lights and,
- 33:26and led boards and all of that stuff.
- 33:30But yeah, it was just sharing with you.
- 33:34He's an inspiration to me.
- 33:35He's always been an
- 33:36inspiration to me to do this thing.
- 33:38Yeah.
- 33:41And it was fun to watch him
- 33:44kind of hit this epic
- 33:45moment where he got to do a
- 33:47show in front of an arena in Pittsburgh.
- 33:51They sold out PPG Arena in Pittsburgh,
- 33:53which is where the Penguins play hockey.
- 33:56It's probably an eighteen
- 33:57thousand seat arena and
- 33:59they sold floor seats as well.
- 34:01So probably twenty thousand
- 34:02people there to watch him
- 34:06kind of give thanks for everything that
- 34:09The fans had given him,
- 34:10he gave away millions of dollars, um,
- 34:13last night and giveaways, uh,
- 34:15which was really cool to,
- 34:17to give back to the,
- 34:18to his fans that way.
- 34:20Um,
- 34:21But I would love it.
- 34:23I would love it if you're
- 34:25listening to this podcast
- 34:26and you have an inspiration
- 34:27that got you to where you are today.
- 34:30I would love to hear who
- 34:31that is and why they're
- 34:33your inspiration in the comments.
- 34:35I think that would be
- 34:37something fun to read
- 34:38through and maybe revisit
- 34:40on tomorrow's show when I
- 34:41see what comes in.
- 34:43Because I'd love to know who
- 34:46the inspirational people
- 34:47are out there in the world
- 34:49who give people that little
- 34:52oomph to do what they're
- 34:54doing a little bit better.
- 34:58And so, yeah,
- 34:59if you have somebody that's
- 35:00inspired you to get to
- 35:02where you are today or to
- 35:04do the things that you do,
- 35:06throw it in the comments.
- 35:07Give me a reason why.
- 35:09And maybe we'll read those
- 35:10comments tomorrow on tomorrow's show.
- 35:18Yeah,
- 35:19people still talking about Mayhem
- 35:22being so close.
- 35:24Dee Reed talks about that
- 35:25they were within arm's
- 35:26length of the athletes.
- 35:27Yeah.
- 35:28It may have does a great job
- 35:30with that intimate setup for sure.
- 35:32Um, you are right on top of the action.
- 35:35You saw the athletes given
- 35:36high fives and when they
- 35:37were crashing into that,
- 35:39that final buzzer, um,
- 35:41many times they were
- 35:42crashing right into the wall where the,
- 35:44where the,
- 35:44the spectators were and the
- 35:46spectators were the only
- 35:47soft part of that landing, uh,
- 35:50other than the metal barricade.
- 35:51So that was pretty cool.
- 35:56Well, Jody,
- 35:57I talked about my review off the top,
- 35:58but you were late.
- 36:01Um, it went, it went fine.
- 36:04Um, where I work,
- 36:06they don't give anything
- 36:07but meets or below meets expectations.
- 36:12Um,
- 36:14And I don't know why it's become this way,
- 36:16but it's made the review meaningless.
- 36:20Because my boss would say, hey,
- 36:24I've been receiving a lot
- 36:25of kudos about you doing this X, Y,
- 36:28and Z. And then he would say,
- 36:29so you meet expectations.
- 36:32Well,
- 36:33that's not true because people are
- 36:35getting more than what they expected.
- 36:38But I just... So it is what it is.
- 36:42I'm, you know...
- 36:43It was a good review for
- 36:45what they do with the state.
- 36:46My boss did give me a lot of
- 36:48kudos in the review.
- 36:50Nothing bad came out of it.
- 36:52And like I said,
- 36:55I am at a retirement age
- 36:57where I could walk out the
- 36:58door tomorrow and get a
- 37:00check the rest of my life.
- 37:03But at this point,
- 37:04it's not enough to live on.
- 37:06So I'm just trying to get as
- 37:07many years in as I can to
- 37:09increase that population.
- 37:12that check for what it is um
- 37:16so any review that I get
- 37:17that doesn't have um a
- 37:20performance plan in it or
- 37:21anything like that is a
- 37:22good thing because that
- 37:23means I'm nowhere near uh
- 37:25being laid off or fired uh
- 37:28so that's that's where I'm at um
- 37:33like five years.
- 37:34So I've, I,
- 37:35when I first got in with the state,
- 37:37I worked my ass off to,
- 37:39to go up the ladder.
- 37:41Um,
- 37:43And I did that.
- 37:44I got my master's degree.
- 37:45I went up the ladder.
- 37:47I got up to upper middle management,
- 37:49just high enough to be the
- 37:50scapegoat on stuff.
- 37:52And then when new governors come in,
- 37:55I become the scapegoat.
- 37:57And then I have to go down a few notches.
- 37:58Then I have to work my way up.
- 38:00And then I become the scapegoat again.
- 38:02I go down with the new governor.
- 38:04And then I work my way up.
- 38:05And I got tired of that
- 38:07roller coaster about five years ago.
- 38:09So when they took me back down,
- 38:14Um,
- 38:15and I used to be the guy they would
- 38:16bring into a unit to clean it up.
- 38:19And then once I got it all clean,
- 38:21then they'd hand it off to their friend.
- 38:23which it just got to be this
- 38:25repetitive thing that I started hating.
- 38:29And so the last time they moved me down,
- 38:32I just said, screw it.
- 38:33I'm not moving back up there
- 38:35only to clean up
- 38:36everybody's mess and then
- 38:39be demoted back down for
- 38:41their friend to get the job
- 38:42and get the kudos for
- 38:43everything moving forward.
- 38:45So I got really disgruntled.
- 38:47And that's actually when I
- 38:48started this podcast five
- 38:50and a half years ago,
- 38:51because I just wanted to do
- 38:53something different and I
- 38:54didn't care about my job anymore.
- 38:56And I got my ears pierced.
- 38:59I got my tattoo on my arm and I said,
- 39:03screw it.
- 39:03I'm not corporate anymore.
- 39:05And I've just been kind of
- 39:06riding my time out where I'm at.
- 39:09So evaluations haven't meant anything,
- 39:11but yeah,
- 39:13I do think I want to make
- 39:15one more move before I
- 39:16retire because your
- 39:18retirement is based on your
- 39:20last three years of work,
- 39:22highest three years of
- 39:23earnings during your work experience.
- 39:27And the level right above me,
- 39:30I could do in my sleep.
- 39:32And it doesn't have anybody
- 39:34reporting to them.
- 39:36And so I did tell my boss
- 39:39that I would like to make a
- 39:41run at those jobs.
- 39:44If someone leaves and he was
- 39:46all for that and said he
- 39:49would help in that effort.
- 39:51So I do think that and I'm
- 39:53going to have to go back to
- 39:53the office by the end of
- 39:55this year anyway.
- 39:57So if I'm going to be in the office,
- 39:58I'm going to be forced to
- 39:59be there to do different
- 40:00different things.
- 40:01I might as well move up and
- 40:03make some more money while I'm doing it.
- 40:06And just make that last little hitch.
- 40:09It's to pay to pay grade increase.
- 40:12And so I'm making a little
- 40:13bit more money before that
- 40:15to base my retirement on
- 40:18when I walk away.
- 40:20but everything that I'm
- 40:21trying to do at this point is just to,
- 40:23to build that up so that my
- 40:25wife and I can retire and
- 40:27we can still go do all the
- 40:28fun stuff around, uh, the country, uh,
- 40:31especially like for me in
- 40:32this CrossFit space and
- 40:33keep the podcast going, um,
- 40:36and not have to worry about
- 40:37the finances of that.
- 40:39So that was probably way
- 40:42more than anybody wanted to know.
- 40:44Um, but that's, that's my story.
- 40:52and I try to be an open book
- 40:53so you guys kind of know what's going on,
- 40:55but yeah, that's where we're at.
- 40:58So I passed, I passed my evaluation and,
- 41:02um, but I've been with the state,
- 41:06two years.
- 41:08Um, if I get to it's a full retirement,
- 41:11I'll make exactly what I'm
- 41:12making working.
- 41:14If I make it to after I'm done working.
- 41:19Um,
- 41:21So it's just,
- 41:23it's the thing working in government is,
- 41:26is not as is not glamorous at all.
- 41:29And what used to be like
- 41:30really good benefits and
- 41:32really good retirement is
- 41:34still pretty good,
- 41:35but it's not what it used to be.
- 41:37And we don't make the wages
- 41:38that the private sector makes.
- 41:40And you kind of get bounced around a lot,
- 41:42um, based on, um,
- 41:47There's actually laws that
- 41:48say they can move me
- 41:49because I'm an exempt employee.
- 41:52They can move me anywhere, anytime,
- 41:54any place without notice.
- 41:59And that goes for anybody
- 42:00that's an exempt employee with the state.
- 42:02They can just, it's like section,
- 42:04they call it section nineteen.
- 42:06And you can just, they can just say, hey,
- 42:08we're going to move you
- 42:09from here over to here and
- 42:10you're going to do this job now.
- 42:14And so you're kind of at their mercy.
- 42:18And I really tried to like
- 42:20change my perception of like,
- 42:22I used to have them up here
- 42:23and they had me down here.
- 42:25And I decided to even that
- 42:27up a little bit where I'm
- 42:28going to hold them in the
- 42:29same place they hold me and
- 42:31no more than that.
- 42:33Um,
- 42:34and I was going to hold my family
- 42:36higher and I was going to
- 42:37hold my faith higher and
- 42:39those things higher.
- 42:41So,
- 42:41because that's what's supporting me day
- 42:45to day, not my job, my job pays my check,
- 42:49but my family and my faith and my friends,
- 42:52they're the, they're what hold,
- 42:54they're the,
- 42:55what keep me going and
- 42:56they're my support all the time.
- 42:59And so that's where I put, um,
- 43:04That's where I put,
- 43:04that's where I put them in
- 43:05the priority chain.
- 43:08So Jay Burch,
- 43:11I wish it was just other duties required.
- 43:12We have that too.
- 43:14Um, that's gets,
- 43:15you get to stay in the job you're at,
- 43:16but you have to do other things.
- 43:18They actually can physically
- 43:20move me from one,
- 43:21one office to another office,
- 43:23doing something completely different, um,
- 43:26from start to finish.
- 43:30It's insane.
- 43:34Uh, D Reed,
- 43:34I'm at the leave me alone stage of work.
- 43:36That's where I was five and
- 43:37a half years ago.
- 43:39Um, I just would go in,
- 43:41we were still in the office.
- 43:42I would go in, I would sit in the corner,
- 43:44I would put my headphones
- 43:45on and I would do my job
- 43:47and I just wanted everybody
- 43:48to leave me alone.
- 43:54Not a fun place to be,
- 43:55not a fun place to be,
- 43:57but I'm getting better
- 43:58there and I'm trying to get
- 44:00my mind around going back
- 44:01into the office.
- 44:03Um,
- 44:05And getting mentally prepared for that.
- 44:09But the people that have been called back,
- 44:13they're still on Teams meetings.
- 44:16Because they forced
- 44:17everybody back to every space available,
- 44:20there's no place to hold a meeting.
- 44:22So all the meetings are
- 44:23still on teams and
- 44:25everybody's wearing
- 44:26headphones because if not, you're just,
- 44:29you're hearing everybody's
- 44:30meetings in this big mass
- 44:32space with all these desks.
- 44:36And so everybody's just
- 44:37sitting in their cubicle
- 44:38with headphones on watching
- 44:40their screens.
- 44:42And,
- 44:44and it's no different than if we were
- 44:46at home.
- 44:49And that,
- 44:50and three of my coworkers got
- 44:51called back and that they,
- 44:53that's exactly what they're doing.
- 44:54They're sitting there with
- 44:55their headphones on doing
- 44:57the same meetings on their
- 44:58computer that they were doing at home,
- 45:00just in a desk.
- 45:01And,
- 45:02and they're saying it's very antisocial.
- 45:04Like there's nobody getting
- 45:06up and talking or anything
- 45:07like that because you're in
- 45:09this condensed space.
- 45:10Cause there's just no room
- 45:11for all the desks.
- 45:17ACR,
- 45:18I wish these kids would give me an
- 45:19upgrade in wages.
- 45:21I bet,
- 45:21I bet they are good at the opposite.
- 45:24They suck the wages.
- 45:28As I'm preparing to take my
- 45:30daughter across the country to Montana.
- 45:33That's going to be hard and
- 45:34awesome all at the same time.
- 45:39Jay Birch, oh yeah,
- 45:39I've been moved before to
- 45:41teach classes in the middle
- 45:42school and the high school
- 45:43one time rather than just
- 45:45the high school.
- 45:46Yeah.
- 45:47I know teachers have that too.
- 45:49Um,
- 45:49I know I have friends that like they
- 45:51were a fourth grade teacher
- 45:52and all of a sudden they were told, Nope,
- 45:54you're teaching second grade this year.
- 45:56Um, so yeah.
- 46:00And yeah, I,
- 46:00I think that train to live is
- 46:01talking about the amen to that,
- 46:03that the new priority list
- 46:05that I came up with after I realized what,
- 46:07where my job placed me.
- 46:10So, well,
- 46:11this has been a good fun talk guys.
- 46:13Um,
- 46:15we'll be back tomorrow.
- 46:17Uh, if you didn't see cat show,
- 46:19it aired last night at five PM.
- 46:21It's still available for replay out there.
- 46:23If you want to go check that out.
- 46:25Um, and then we will be back tomorrow, uh,
- 46:31with lunch with the
- 46:32Clydesdale and Sunday night, Carolyn,
- 46:34Jamie and I will be back to
- 46:35do the full Sunday, Sunday, Sunday night,
- 46:39CrossFit talk.
- 46:41Um, uh,
- 46:42Lynn says random,
- 46:43but will we please have age
- 46:45group video review discussion on Sunday?
- 46:47I am betting a hundred
- 46:49percent because that's been nothing.
- 46:53Our chat,
- 46:54our text string with Jamie and
- 46:56Carolyn has been nothing
- 46:57but age group video review.
- 47:01So I am sure that that is
- 47:02going to be a number one
- 47:04thing to discuss on Sunday night.
- 47:07What a joke that has become.
- 47:11thought it was going to be a good thing,
- 47:13but they missed one aspect of it.
- 47:15And because they missed that
- 47:16one aspect of it, it is one huge joke.
- 47:22All right, guys,
- 47:23I got to get back to work.
- 47:25Time for you knuckleheads to
- 47:27get back to work too.
- 47:28We'll see everybody tomorrow
- 47:30on Lunch with Clydesdale.
- 47:32Bye guys.
