- 0:16Speaker 1: willing to eat off the four, you can be special.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Our next guest seats off the floor every single day
- 0:24Speaker 2: for his clients. Chuck Mullin's attorney at law, Attorney to
- 0:30Speaker 2: the Stars, Cleveland Brown's super fan, joins us on the
- 0:34Speaker 2: Out of Bounds show ESPN one oh five nine The Zone.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Chuck Mullins, Good morning, How the hell are you?
- 0:42Speaker 1: I'm good man. I was gonna give you a macho
- 0:44Speaker 1: man just and you kind of pumped me up, but
- 0:46Speaker 1: I backed off. You backed but it's too early.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Yeah, well you're probably ordering a Drew Locke Jersey. Isn't
- 0:54Speaker 2: he gonna start for the Browns this year at quarterback?
- 0:58Speaker 1: You know, the season is not even starred. Who knows, man,
- 1:01Speaker 1: We're just kind of you know, we're taking applications now,
- 1:04Speaker 1: so you know, it will take anybody that looks like
- 1:08Speaker 1: they can throw football.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Yeah, that's why I thought, like, y'all make a play
- 1:12Speaker 2: for Tua, who's wildly overrated. You know, somebody like that
- 1:15Speaker 2: would be perfect for y'all. Kind of following up the
- 1:18Speaker 2: Deshaun disaster.
- 1:20Speaker 1: You know, the Deshaun disaster is it's probably going to
- 1:24Speaker 1: be taught in sports business classes in the future. Yes,
- 1:28Speaker 1: how not to do things? Wow. And you look, I
- 1:32Speaker 1: know you're calling me about Miles Garrett. And I think
- 1:34Speaker 1: that that disaster led to where we are today.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Okay, walk me through that.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Well, you know, of course, you take us back to
- 1:45Speaker 1: four years ago in the spring of twenty twenty two
- 1:49Speaker 1: when we acquired Deshaun and the trade and essentially said,
- 1:54Speaker 1: you know, made the I think that at that time.
- 1:58Speaker 1: It's kind of laughable now, but at that time, the
- 2:00Speaker 1: Browns were they just came off losing to the Chiefs
- 2:04Speaker 1: the year before in the playoffs, and they had that
- 2:08Speaker 1: injury played quarterback season with Baker in twenty twenty one.
- 2:11Speaker 1: So twenty twenty two, all the pieces were there on
- 2:15Speaker 1: offense and defensive stout and so they needed that quarterback
- 2:20Speaker 1: and Deshaun Watson was there, and they they sacrificed their
- 2:24Speaker 1: entire franchise at that point with the three first round
- 2:26Speaker 1: picks and I think several other second round picks for
- 2:32Speaker 1: Deshaun Watson, hoping he would be the guy. And when
- 2:36Speaker 1: that didn't train up in now four years later, you know,
- 2:38Speaker 1: it was a disaster, as you say, and in order
- 2:42Speaker 1: to restart, they're gonna they trade their best player, arguably
- 2:48Speaker 1: the one of the best players in the league, definitely
- 2:49Speaker 1: best defensive player and to try to get back to
- 2:53Speaker 1: what they were trying to get four years ago. And
- 2:56Speaker 1: so that's why I say, had that not happened with DeShawn,
- 3:00Speaker 1: and we would be in much better shape with Baker Mayfield.
- 3:03Speaker 1: And I hate to say that. I hate to be
- 3:05Speaker 1: that guy, but I'm going to be that guy. If
- 3:08Speaker 1: you would just had his quarterback play for the last
- 3:10Speaker 1: three or four years, he'd be a totally different franchise.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true.
- 3:15Speaker 1: I mean, and it's and it's if you look at
- 3:18Speaker 1: the Browns, it's all for the last three years, it's
- 3:21Speaker 1: not only been ineffective quarterback play, but Deshawn's not even
- 3:24Speaker 1: been on the field, you know. Last year he missed completely.
- 3:27Speaker 1: The first year, he was suspended the first eleven games.
- 3:31Speaker 1: And it's so it's it's you. You haven't even got
- 3:34Speaker 1: the product that you you know, you purchase. You go
- 3:37Speaker 1: in there and you get the shiny toy when you're
- 3:39Speaker 1: gonna take it home and play with it, but you
- 3:41Speaker 1: break it in the car, you know what I mean. Yeah,
- 3:43Speaker 1: and that's kind of and we didn't even get a
- 3:45Speaker 1: chance to see what it looks like. And and you
- 3:47Speaker 1: essentially squandered the best defense, one of the best defenses
- 3:52Speaker 1: in the league for the last you know, half decade
- 3:56Speaker 1: with with in that quarterback. I used to put a
- 4:00Speaker 1: like to call it, you know, football malpractice, and it
- 4:08Speaker 1: is what it is.
- 4:10Speaker 2: That is fantastic. Chuck Mullins, Cleveland Brown super fan football
- 4:16Speaker 2: malpractice again in Cleveland, And uh, I can't believe, I mean,
- 4:22Speaker 2: I understand the off the field stuff. I can't believe
- 4:26Speaker 2: that he wasn't able to. Yeah, guys have been through
- 4:31Speaker 2: Guys have been through much worse and come back and
- 4:34Speaker 2: played at a high level in the NFL. Chuck, I'm
- 4:37Speaker 2: surprised he didn't. God, he was so good at Clemson.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Then he showed signs of really having that pop in
- 4:46Speaker 2: with the Texans and they've been a little dysfunctional, especially
- 4:49Speaker 2: on that side of the ball. Aren't you surprised he
- 4:52Speaker 2: didn't turn the corner?
- 4:53Speaker 1: Chuck, Well, I am until you delve into what everybody
- 4:58Speaker 1: out there who still plays recreational sports like golf or
- 5:04Speaker 1: me at buyon highball lanes every Tuesday night. You get
- 5:09Speaker 1: into your own head, right, you know, you've done this
- 5:12Speaker 1: stuff for years. You're at the top of your profession
- 5:15Speaker 1: Sean Watson. But then there's that insta, that mental aspect
- 5:20Speaker 1: of the game, and that was it for him. I
- 5:23Speaker 1: think the year off in Houston where he was completely
- 5:28Speaker 1: kept off the field for you know, not in football reasons,
- 5:33Speaker 1: the stuff he went through with the media, it was
- 5:37Speaker 1: constantly in his head. God knows what he was going
- 5:39Speaker 1: through in his personal life, which he brought on himself,
- 5:41Speaker 1: by the way. I'm not saying he was a victim,
- 5:44Speaker 1: but I think all of that came to rest on
- 5:47Speaker 1: the field. He could not get passed, he couldn't get
- 5:49Speaker 1: out of his own head. So the talent was always there,
- 5:53Speaker 1: but the mistakes that we saw him make on the field. Sorry,
- 5:58Speaker 1: I just was thinking about one play in particular where
- 6:00Speaker 1: he threw it back you know, it was against the Bengals.
- 6:02Speaker 1: He literally threw the ball backwards halfway across the field
- 6:06Speaker 1: and I was like, what what I mean? I had
- 6:08Speaker 1: I used to coach Madison, original youth football man, and
- 6:12Speaker 1: my kids never did anything like that, and I was thinking,
- 6:15Speaker 1: my god, that's not something somebody does who has been
- 6:19Speaker 1: like to your point, who is a stud at Clemsons,
- 6:21Speaker 1: who is a stud in the NFL? And it's just
- 6:25Speaker 1: like And so I think it goes back to the
- 6:27Speaker 1: mental aspect of the game, which you know is getting
- 6:30Speaker 1: more appreciated now, but it explains a lot of the
- 6:33Speaker 1: when when when star athletes kind of aren't stars anymore
- 6:37Speaker 1: and have all the tools, I think it goes to
- 6:39Speaker 1: the mental problem. And I think that's and that's very difficult,
- 6:43Speaker 1: as you know, and uh, when you got it in
- 6:46Speaker 1: your head, you've got the yips. Look how many baseball.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Players, no question, and golfers like you mentioned, no doubt.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Yeah, it just gets in there and you and it sucks.
- 6:55Speaker 1: It really does if you've experienced it. I've experienced it,
- 6:59Speaker 1: and it sucks. And I think that's what we're looking
- 7:00Speaker 1: at with DeShawn. But getting back, I think the trade, unfortunately,
- 7:05Speaker 1: you know, I think it was the best thing the
- 7:07Speaker 1: Browns could do. I think the Rams are going to
- 7:11Speaker 1: be I would not want to play those guys this year. Offensively,
- 7:17Speaker 1: they were number one in the NFL. Defensively they were fourth,
- 7:20Speaker 1: and pressure rating and yeah, exactly, and guess who they're getting.
- 7:28Speaker 1: So their defenses top half of the league, and I
- 7:30Speaker 1: expect them to just be you know, barring injury and
- 7:33Speaker 1: knock on wood, I don't want anybody to get hurt.
- 7:35Speaker 1: They're gonna be a really fun team to watch. And
- 7:37Speaker 1: I'm you know, I'm happy for Miles nine years with Cleveland,
- 7:40Speaker 1: and you know all you did was, you know, he
- 7:43Speaker 1: was our guy week in week out. He was the
- 7:45Speaker 1: Joe Thomas.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, y'all have gone through two Hall of Famers
- 7:52Speaker 2: and not gotten anything out of.
- 7:53Speaker 1: It, you see. And that's the point. Bo. You know,
- 7:57Speaker 1: We've had the All Pro Hall of Fame left tackle
- 8:00Speaker 1: and then you got this guy, the stud, and he
- 8:03Speaker 1: didn't produce the wins. So I'd rather have eleven, you know,
- 8:06Speaker 1: good average, the good players than the one superstar. And
- 8:10Speaker 1: I think, you know, it was great having Miles, great
- 8:13Speaker 1: having Joe Thomas, but I think again, going back to
- 8:16Speaker 1: the football malpractice, you have to do more.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Yeah, fair enough, Chuck Mullins on the Out of Bound show,
- 8:22Speaker 2: Cleveland Brown super fan attorney at law and uh, well,
- 8:28Speaker 2: we'll see who Cleveland's going to start at quarterback this
- 8:32Speaker 2: year and who they could get maybe down the line.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Thanks Chuck, be good buddy.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Later God take care of a good weekend.
- 8:39Speaker 2: All right, man, we got to do a fantasy football
- 8:42Speaker 2: hit with chuck Mania, don't you think. Yeah, I mean,
- 8:48Speaker 2: it's never too early ever. All Right.
- 8:52Speaker 3: We are the Out of Bound Show ESPN one oh
- 8:55Speaker 3: five nine The Zone and uh Jake Manning will join
- 8:59Speaker 3: us coming up next, and we're gonna talk about all
- 9:03Speaker 3: kinds of things as far as your game day experience.
- 9:06Speaker 2: We're gonna get into that, all right, Here we go.
