- 0:12Hello friends, it is Sean. Here it is.
- 0:15Thursday, it is the 13th of July.
- 0:19Boy, lucky it's not Friday the 13th.
- 0:21Thursday the 13th sounds much less superstitiously scary, if
- 0:27you're into that. But here we have a whole new day
- 0:31where you and I get to take another step forward.
- 0:34And this is a tinsy winsy step, a tiny micro shuffle, because
- 0:39today's chapter is only 6 versus long.
- 0:42It is tiny. And let not the short length
- 0:46fool you, because today might be short.
- 0:49But today introduces another one of the themes of the book of
- 0:53Isaiah in this introductory phase of the book.
- 0:56We have heard God calling to account Israel for her terrible
- 1:00behavior, and today the focus changes tack and we hear about
- 1:08the promise of restoration. Because just as God is trying to
- 1:12call her people back, this is not just an angry God who wants
- 1:17to punish, but this is a God who wants to draw his people back to
- 1:21him to restore them. To being in perfect relationship
- 1:25with Him. This is God's heart and God's
- 1:29desire. So let us hear what God has to
- 1:33say about wanting to draw his people back to himself.
- 1:37Let's read about God's faithfulness as we read
- 1:39together. Isaiah, chapter 4.
- 1:53In that day so few men will be left that seven women will fight
- 1:59for each man, saying, let us all marry you.
- 2:03We will provide our own food and clothing only let us take your
- 2:07name so we won't be mocked as old maids.
- 2:11But in that day the branch of the Lord will be beautiful and
- 2:16glorious. The fruit of the land will be
- 2:19the pride and glory of all who survive in Israel.
- 2:24All who remain in Zion will be a holy people, those who survive
- 2:29the destruction of Jerusalem and are accorded among the living.
- 2:34The Lord will wash the filth from beautiful Zion and cleanse
- 2:38Jerusalem from its bloodstains with the hot breath of fiery
- 2:43judgment. Then the Lord will provide shade
- 2:47for Mount Zion and all who assemble there.
- 2:51He will provide a canopy of cloud during the day and smoke
- 2:56and flaming fire at night, covering the glorious land.
- 3:01It will be a shelter from daytime heat and a hiding place
- 3:06from storms and rain. Ah, Lord, thank you for this
- 3:20beautiful picture of your presence, just as you did in
- 3:26your Tabernacle when you were present in a cloud during the
- 3:31day and fire at night. Here you make the same promise
- 3:36that you will be present with your people through cloud in the
- 3:42day and flaming fire at night. Thank you.
- 3:47That you promised That even when things go terribly wrong and
- 3:52people turn their back on you, you will take them through the
- 3:56refiners fire so that you can return to them and draw them
- 4:01back to you. That when we go the wrong way,
- 4:05when we turn our back on you, that there you are, waiting for
- 4:09us, ready to reunite us with you.
- 4:15Ready to come and make us holy and be present with us again.
- 4:21And thank you that you do that through Jesus, and that we live
- 4:25in this new agreement with you where you have given us your
- 4:29Spirit and your Son, and all we need to do is say yes, yes,
- 4:36come, Holy Spirit, yes, Jesus, we follow you and you take care
- 4:42of the rest. What?
- 4:44Cracking deal you give us. We are so grateful and we love
- 4:48you, our holy and wonderful God, and it's in your name that we
- 4:53pray Jesus. Amen.
