- 0:00All right, we're both laughing. You're looking live.
- 0:02Charlie Marlow, Kenny Wallace, Daytona 500 just ended.
- 0:08What a crazy finish. A guy basically, we weren't
- 0:12talking about the entire race, even though he won it last year.
- 0:14William Byron escapes all of that craziness to go
- 0:17back-to-back in the Great American Race term.
- 0:21Charlie, people ask me all the time who's going to win the
- 0:25Daytona 500. I said you might as well go to a
- 0:28casino, go to the roulette wheel, there's 36 numbers and
- 0:32then there's 2 green numbers. That's 38.
- 0:35I said spin a roulette wheel because William Byron running
- 0:40about 12th, the 15th and the leaders all wrecked and you look
- 0:46up and there's William Byron. You know, was he in position to
- 0:51win the race? No, he was not.
- 0:54But there's an old saying, if you're in it, you can win it.
- 0:58And Charlie, William Byron, we've had him on Kenny
- 1:01Conversation. We're lucky we had William Byron
- 1:04on Kenny Conversation after a week after he won the last
- 1:08Daytona 500. But it's official, Charlie,
- 1:12William Byron etches his name in the record books.
- 1:15He is a two time Daytona 500 winner and Oh my God, this race
- 1:21had it all. Where do we start, Charlie?
- 1:24Well, that was going to be my question.
- 1:25This, this final wreck on the final lap.
- 1:28I, I'm in my office here without ATV and I tried to watch it and
- 1:32you saw what Custer and Hamlin there and then William Byron
- 1:36escapes it. How, how about we start with
- 1:38this? How about we start with the 15
- 1:40to go? Because I got like that was the
- 1:43big one. And also we have a bunch of
- 1:45drivers that did interviews with Regan Smith afterwards talking
- 1:50about it. So basically, Logano's pushing
- 1:53Ricky Stenhouse about 15 to go, throws the late block, and then
- 1:57it looked like Logano tried to get in there again.
- 2:00What did you see? OK, everybody, we're going to go
- 2:03to the Juice right away. All right?
- 2:05This is my opinion, OK? I watched the replay 2 times of
- 2:10Joey Logano, OK? And Ricky Stenhouse.
- 2:14Here's what I see. I see two stubborn guys that are
- 2:17aggressive and they're winners. You you can make fun of Ricky
- 2:22Stenhouse and Joey Logano all you want.
- 2:24The bottom line is Ricky Stenhouse is a winner.
- 2:27Joey Logano's a three time champion, so make fun of all you
- 2:30want, but they're always going for it.
- 2:32So here's the way I broke that wreck down.
- 2:35OK? You know, Logano's got to run.
- 2:39He turns left. Ricky goes to block it and you
- 2:43clearly see and you clearly hear Joey Logano let's off the gas.
- 2:48I mean, he lets off the gas. That's all there's to it.
- 2:51And then there's a little bit of gap and it appears that Joey
- 2:56Logano's frustrated, like he's trying to wiggle his way in
- 2:59there. But watch what I watched,
- 3:02everybody. The four of Noah Gregson is
- 3:05pushing Joey Logano in into it more now.
- 3:09There's a couple replays, the replay that I saw, you kind of
- 3:13got to look at the roof of the four car, you know, cuz there's
- 3:17not a real good replay of it. Now they, they interviewed Joey
- 3:20Logano. That's the way I see it.
- 3:23I see 2 great racers and, and I think of the Arrington Center,
- 3:28the great Formula One driver 15 laps ago, Daytona 500.
- 3:33You see a gap and you don't go for it.
- 3:35So I see Logano go for the gap. I see Stenhouse close the gap
- 3:41and then you clearly see Logano come way out of the gas.
- 3:44You see the flames, you hear the in car camera.
- 3:47Then he gets back in the gas and, and now the four doesn't
- 3:52get to him immediately. There's a delight.
- 3:54Now the four is pushing him and and that's what happens.
- 3:58So you know, I, I saw that, you know, and, and I know all of you
- 4:04want to blame somebody on that wreck.
- 4:06I get it. But you know, it's not that.
- 4:10Look, if if I thought Joey Logano said I'm just going to
- 4:13wreck it, he can't wreck everybody got to win the race.
- 4:16But that's what I saw. I saw at the end there the four
- 4:19coming in and then it was just a pile of potatoes after that.
- 4:23But man, I'll tell you what, Charlotte, let me say this.
- 4:28Here's the difference in these Daytona 5 hundreds, they ride,
- 4:32they save the gas mileage. We see what they're doing.
- 4:36You know, they're saving gas and they figured out, OK, we only
- 4:39need 4 seconds of gas. This is the new thing now,
- 4:43everybody watched it, right? They got the laptop, right?
- 4:47The guy comes into pit stop and he puts up a laptop and the
- 4:50laptop says 4.5 seconds and the laptop is yellow and he's got it
- 4:56right in front of the driver's windshield.
- 4:58And when it goes down to 0 seconds and the driver, it goes
- 5:02green, the driver takes off. This is new.
- 5:05This is a new deal. So now these guys are playing
- 5:09this fuel game. Cuz whoever takes less fuel
- 5:13takes less time on Pier Road. And now, now that the fuel is
- 5:17over, Charlie, no more fuel game.
- 5:21That's what we got. Everybody's like the same fuel,
- 5:24the same fuel. And then all of a sudden
- 5:26nobody's saving fuel anymore. Now we're wide open and now, now
- 5:30we're trying to win the Daytona 500.
- 5:33Let me just say this, Charlie, what a race, what a race.
- 5:37I mean, NASCAR is still has the best start in 20 years.
- 5:43And, and let me say this, I, I keep having things to say,
- 5:47Charlie, my last thing and we're going to, we got a lot more to
- 5:49go. They got lucky with the rain
- 5:52because I mean, it's it's 8:45, but that race was over at say
- 5:57835 in Saint Louis. So the Daytona 500 gets 4 hours
- 6:03rain delay. It comes on in prime time.
- 6:06It's over at 830-5935 in Charlotte.
- 6:10Hell, it's even earlier north or in in California.
- 6:14So all's well that it ends well. So the the four hour rain delay
- 6:20actually put this Daytona 500 in prime time.
- 6:24So NASCAR's got to be smiling. Yeah, it'll be interesting to
- 6:27see the the ratings there. So I haven't heard from Ricky
- 6:30Stenhouse yet. I don't have the TV in front of
- 6:33me. But we did hear from Logano.
- 6:35We heard from Kyle Busch. Logano didn't seem very pissed.
- 6:41And I mean, he he was upset, obviously he didn't really blame
- 6:44Ricky Stenhouse. I'm sure some people are blaming
- 6:46Ricky Stenhouse, some people are blaming Joey Logano.
- 6:49Some people are saying, hey, it's just racing.
- 6:51It's 15 laps to go at the end of the Daytona 500.
- 6:55But obviously you probably saw Kyle Busch.
- 6:57Kyle Busch was not happy and he certainly did blame Joey Logano.
- 7:01He said something like a it was the fastest car basically trying
- 7:04to get to the wreck, you know, the the fastest car trying to
- 7:07jam in there. So the 8 car Kyle Busch going
- 7:10for his first Daytona 500 win in his 20th try, he was obviously
- 7:14upset, but he did blame Joey Logano.
- 7:16So Charlie emotions emotions are an all time high.
- 7:22You, you got, you got here, here.
- 7:25Here's the scenario. Joey Logano, not very many
- 7:29people like him, OK, number one. Number two, he wins 3
- 7:33championships. They're mad at him for winning
- 7:36the third one and he's got the fastest car.
- 7:39Now you got the villain who is Kyle Busch.
- 7:42You know, this is like WWE, right?
- 7:44The villain is Kyle Busch for so many years and he goes winless
- 7:48last year and everybody's like, oh, they, they feeling sorry for
- 7:50Kyle Busch now. They feeling sorry for Kyle
- 7:53Busch. Now Kyle Busch is like kind of
- 7:56like a Dale. OK, calm down everybody.
- 7:59Kyle Busch is not Dale Senior, but it's got that feel. 20
- 8:03years. He keeps trying.
- 8:05He's always in the top five and gets wrecked out.
- 8:08So Charlie, the fans are feeling bad for the villain and the
- 8:13villain is Kyle Busch. This is a scenario.
- 8:16Kyle Busch, who was the bad guy one time, Now everybody's loving
- 8:20because he's 39 years old, he's getting of age.
- 8:24He went when they're feeling sorry for him.
- 8:26But in the end, it was just a damn wreck, you know?
- 8:29And I broke it down and man, what an outcome.
- 8:34You never know who's going to win this Daytona 500.
- 8:38Let me say this Charlie, do you got the rundown I got?
- 8:42It right there. People in the comments said that
- 8:45junior got a top ten with all guy or was he 9th I believe?
- 8:48Yeah, let me go ahead and read it.
- 8:52I usually look for you you to read this, Charlie, but I got it
- 8:55right here. I got the top 20, everybody.
- 8:57William Byron wins his second Daytona 500 back-to-back.
- 9:03Tyler Raddick, he runs second and that's good for Michael
- 9:07Jordan. Look at this.
- 9:09Jimmy Johnson, the 7th time champion was hanging out in the
- 9:13back, literally, and then finally got it on.
- 9:16He runs third or posted to Chase Briscoe finishes 4th.
- 9:21John Hunter Nemechek finishes 5th.
- 9:23Alex Moment 6 Ryan Blaney. Ryan Blaney totally destroyed,
- 9:28wrecked out, they fix his nose, he comes back, finish the 7th.
- 9:34Syndrich 8th And there it is, the feel good story in 9th, Dale
- 9:38Earnhardt. Junior's car.
- 9:40Justin Ogar finishes 9th Chris Buscher 10th OK, Chris Buscher
- 9:4510th. Take a little breath here, take
- 9:47a little drink of water in 11th. How about that?
- 9:53Michael McDowell finished his 11th.
- 9:55Daniel scores 12th, Eric Jones 13th, Ty Dillon, who I thought
- 10:00was a good runner, he was multiple laps down, but he comes
- 10:03back to finish 14th. Chase Elliott 15th.
- 10:08Riley Herbst. He was, yeah.
- 10:11Is that's his name, Riley Herbst.
- 10:13Yeah. Riley Herbst was 16th.
- 10:15And he he was trying to push Denny Hamlin to the win there.
- 10:19So he wrecks out get 16th. Ricky sent out 17th, Ty Gibbs
- 10:2418th, Justin Haley 19th and Kyle Arson 20th.
- 10:28So everybody, that's your top 20?
- 10:31So what did you think of the of the final lap racket?
- 10:34Looked like Cole Custer also was just trying to jam it in there
- 10:39against Denny Hamlin. And then also, I've seen some
- 10:42people saying they're glad that they didn't throw the caution
- 10:46there and they let William Byron run till the end.
- 10:48You think that was the right call for sure.
- 10:51I like the call. OK, I'm going to go back.
- 10:55I know what everybody's going to say.
- 10:57Everybody's going to say that they should have thrown the
- 11:01caution, but but hear me out. Hear me out.
- 11:05If they if they would have thrown the caution, your winner
- 11:10would still have been William Byron.
- 11:15Stop and think about it, everybody stop and think about
- 11:17it. If they would have throw the
- 11:19caution, William Byron was still out front.
- 11:22And if they would have thrown the caution, Tyler Reddick was
- 11:26still second. So let's calm down, everybody.
- 11:29I'm with you. Hold on.
- 11:30I'm with you. Why didn't they throw the
- 11:33caution? Well, because the wreck happened
- 11:36and everybody it was done and, and and they're coming to the
- 11:40start finish line and you would have had to go on two more miles
- 11:44to to run into the wreck and they knew that wasn't going to
- 11:47happen. So I hear you, I'm with you, but
- 11:51I don't care. It was the right call.
- 11:54It was the right call. So I'm going to give it to you.
- 11:58Let's let's say you all want to say that should have throw the
- 12:01caution. Well, if they throw the caution
- 12:04you the top five, still the top five maybe Who was it?
- 12:10Somebody got by the 19 at the I think Jimmie Johnson might have
- 12:15got 100. OK, John under Nitmachek might
- 12:17have got by Briscoe during that wreck, but I studied that.
- 12:21So once again, everybody must say for the third time, I'll
- 12:25give you the caution, throw it top five, still the top five.
- 12:30So it looked clean. Thank God.
- 12:34I I I predicted this race to enter the caution.
- 12:37It didn't. But we still got a hell of a
- 12:39Daytona 500. And.
- 12:41And Charlie, you want me to say what I think about that last
- 12:46wreck? Number one, I'm very happy that
- 12:50Ryan Priest is OK. Yeah, there's DC322.
- 12:55We are. Yes, you're exactly right.
- 12:57DC322. Ryan Priest had the big wreck
- 13:01last year. Very happy.
- 13:03And Ryan Priest said when he was in the air and it got silent,
- 13:06Charlie, he said. I thought about my kid for a
- 13:09minute. His daughter?
- 13:10Yep. Yeah, yeah.
- 13:12Very, very, very scary. And listen, that last wreck was
- 13:19nobody's fault. I mean, you're, you're coming to
- 13:22the checkered flag and everybody's wide open.
- 13:26And, you know, Danny did what he thought he needed to do.
- 13:29Listen, Danny Hamlin's a three time Daytona 500 winner.
- 13:34It's easy to so say he should have went high.
- 13:37You know, come on everybody, that's that's bar talk.
- 13:42That's when you're at the bar. He should have went, you know,
- 13:45while we're sitting on our asses.
- 13:47But so happy Ryan Priest is OK. Yeah.
- 13:52What did you think of his comments?
- 13:54Not just talking about his daughter, but then after that he
- 13:56said, hey, look, we we got to, we got to change something or
- 13:58other. Otherwise the next time
- 14:00somebody's not going to be able to be walking out of the car
- 14:03after a flip like that. He's he's kind of become the
- 14:05unfortunately the, the flipping guy, right?
- 14:08He did it last year. Yeah, it's sad to say.
- 14:10Now here, here's what I say. Let let me let me give you a, a
- 14:15history lesson. When brother Rusty Wallace was
- 14:19getting into all these wrecks and break, you know, hurt
- 14:22himself, You know, he flipped at Daytona in 1993, flipped at
- 14:29Talladega the same year. Well, Rusty started saying,
- 14:32guys, we're going to kill ourselves.
- 14:34Well, then I heard other drivers going, oh, Wallace is getting
- 14:37scared. You know, let me tell you, when
- 14:40you wreck as much as Ryan Priest's wreck at Daytona, if
- 14:45you don't start getting a little timid, you're not normal.
- 14:48So there's Ryan Priests two years in a row with the worst
- 14:53wreck you could ever wreck, flipping and over and violent.
- 14:58But in a weird way, as scary as it looks, those are the easiest
- 15:02wrecks. The wrecks that kill you, sadly,
- 15:06are the ones that Dale Arnon Senior had.
- 15:09That's when you when you hit the wall really hard.
- 15:13You know, when you hit that wall really hard, that's that's what
- 15:16kills you because your, your, your brain is floating in
- 15:19liquid. When your brain floats in
- 15:21liquid, you hit the wall, your brain smashes up against your
- 15:25skull. And that's what happened to, to
- 15:27Dale Senior. So listen, Rhyme priest said all
- 15:32the right stuff. If you, if you, if you don't
- 15:35say, I was seeing my kid and something's got to be done.
- 15:38You're not normal. So, you know, you got to give
- 15:42Ryan Priest a break. You can't act like a like you
- 15:44want to kill yourself. You know that's crazy talk.
- 15:49So you, you, you said earlier that NASCAR got lucky with it
- 15:53becoming a prime time race. I'm, I'm wondering though,
- 15:56because early on, I mean, man, you're thinking again, can they,
- 16:01can they catch a break? With.
- 16:03They already started the race an hour early because of the
- 16:06forecast. Then they run what, 11 laps,
- 16:09whatever it is. Then there's about a three hour
- 16:11and 10 minute rain delay, whatever it is, they go out
- 16:14there and run under caution and don't even run a lap.
- 16:17But luckily that second rain delay, it was only about what,
- 16:202530 minutes? And then once they got back,
- 16:22hey, it's a night race, it's all good.
- 16:24And the ending, I know, I know you, you saved some fuel for a
- 16:28while. But hell, if you look at the
- 16:30last three wrecks, I mean, if you're looking for excitement,
- 16:33the last, the last what, 25 laps to go, whatever it was, was
- 16:36freaking awesome. Charlie, let me address the rain
- 16:39deal first. You know, we're we're not
- 16:42perfect, but when I say this, it's perfect, OK?
- 16:46They move the Daytona 500 up one hour.
- 16:51If they don't move it up one hour, nothing happens.
- 16:55There's no introduction, there's no Pitbull, There's no there's,
- 16:59there's no President Trump landing.
- 17:01So just remember that I think people lose their mind and they
- 17:05like to talk negative and they're like, oh, well, they
- 17:07changing time and Trump landed. That's why it's people.
- 17:12You're thinking way wrong. They moved the Daytona 500 up
- 17:17one hour that way. We got everything in.
- 17:22Then they went six laps and it rained.
- 17:25Then they went a little bit more and it was lap 11 where they
- 17:28said, OK, pull them down Parrot Rd.
- 17:30So, yeah, you know, I mean, I understand everybody wanting
- 17:36things to be they way they, you know, you can convince anybody
- 17:40to agree with you. You know, they, they did that
- 17:43for Trump, just like people. You can tell when somebody's a
- 17:48Democrat. It's like it had nothing to do
- 17:53with anything. It it was a wonderful move
- 17:56because they got everything in and here in St.
- 18:01Louis, MO, at 8:30 at night, we have a Daytona 500 that went all
- 18:06the way. And yeah, so OK.
- 18:10Then the second one, Charlie asked him that one again about
- 18:15the end there. I just saw what really caused
- 18:17that last wreck. OK.
- 18:19So you're talking about on the final lap or with with?
- 18:225:00 to go on the final lap. Final lap.
- 18:25So that was Custer, right? Kind of pushing Denny Hamlin.
- 18:28Yep, but he he was not the one that made all hell break loose.
- 18:32Once again, nobody's fault. As I watched the very last
- 18:35wreck, what happened was Custer goes to push Danny and says to
- 18:39hell with it, I'm going to try to win it and he pulls out to
- 18:42make it 3 wide. It was Chase Briscoe in the 19
- 18:46car hit Danny so hard that it turned Danny Danny into Austin
- 18:51Syndrich. So if everybody wants to get
- 18:54down to the nitty gritty and watch the replay, what caused
- 18:57the very last wreck is it wasn't Cole Custer.
- 19:01I just watched the replay 30 seconds ago, and it was Chase
- 19:06Briscoe. He did nothing wrong, but he
- 19:08knocked the hell out of Denny Hamlin.
- 19:10And that put Denny, you know, into Austin Syndrich.
- 19:15But, you know, listen, this Daytona 500 had it all.
- 19:21OK, Let me let me see here, Charlie.
- 19:24Doug Schoenfeld, Take a breather here, everybody.
- 19:28Yeah, I'm. I'm trying to read the finishing
- 19:30order again because it's funny because when you read that, off
- 19:33to me. So here we go.
- 19:34Obviously Byron wins. Reddick second, Jimmy Johnson
- 19:39third, Chase Briscoe 4th, John Hunter Nemechek 5th.
- 19:44Now, clearly Chase Briscoe was your poll sitter.
- 19:46But it's funny because as I'm watching, you see William Byron
- 19:49win and then I'm getting ready to run in here to start the
- 19:52show. And so I didn't really know who
- 19:55is second, third, 4th, 5th. And it's kind of funny because
- 19:58when you started to read off the names, it's like that's
- 20:00basically four or five guys you didn't mention once the entire
- 20:04night. But that's so Daytona because
- 20:06after, after three wrecks and you clear out whatever it is,
- 20:095/10/15 cars that are running up front.
- 20:12It's some guys at the end that you don't talk about, but they
- 20:15they had the luck of the draw and they get a top. 5C That's
- 20:18Daytona. That is Daytona.
- 20:22Here's the difference. Years ago we could cheat and
- 20:26these teams could show up and they'd have an advantage and
- 20:30they're a car. Listen, it used to be 7030.
- 20:34Eighty, 20 years ago it used to be 70 percent, 80% car.
- 20:40It's everybody says that everybody.
- 20:42That's not my opinion. So you could get away from
- 20:46people. Years ago, Dale Earnhardt Junior
- 20:50won the Daytona 500 like by himself.
- 20:53He he just passed Tony Stewart and like, we were happy, you
- 20:57know what I mean? You could get away from people
- 21:00back in the day because you can handcraft your car now.
- 21:05The rules are so tight that that's why you might as well go
- 21:09to the roulette table. Like I say, everybody's learning
- 21:12it when somebody says who's going to win the Daytona 5?
- 21:15I had Logano and I was, I said Joey Logano was going to win and
- 21:19I was looking good. I was looking good.
- 21:23OK, just a quick story. Everybody I look at, I have a
- 21:28lot of texts. Doug Schoenfeld, the owner of
- 21:33Schoenfeld Headers, the largest header maker in America for dirt
- 21:37cars. This is Doug's quick story.
- 21:41My first time to Daytona 1969 stood in the infield on top of
- 21:46Steve Peterson's truck. First car I remember was 9 was
- 21:52the #71 Bobby Isaac's Super Bird.
- 21:55I was at Daytona with you Herman when Rusty crashed on the back
- 21:59straight. There was mud in every crevice
- 22:02of the car. Their most memorable rain delay
- 22:05was not NASCAR. But with you in Fort Wayne, IN.
- 22:09It was cool to see Trump pacing the field and on pit Rd. talking
- 22:13to the driver today. Wish I had more time to talk to
- 22:18you at Volusia. So everybody I'm reading off
- 22:21this is something new. I'm reading off some very
- 22:26popular people that text me. I'm going to voice activation
- 22:30back does I'll read We are live on Kenny Wallace on YouTube.
- 22:37Thank you for your text. That's what we do.
- 22:40OK, go ahead. OK, so Game Nerd says this is
- 22:44his dependent. He says that was not a race.
- 22:46It was a wreck fest. I feel like it was a pretty good
- 22:49mix, right? I mean, look, it's Daytona.
- 22:51You you don't want a couple wrecks.
- 22:53I mean, at the end, OK, was there one too many?
- 22:55But I I feel like it was kind of the right amount for the Daytona
- 22:58500. OK, who said that, Gene?
- 23:01Game Nerd. OK, Game.
- 23:03Listen, I love you, Game Nerd. I love you.
- 23:07And I'm very glad you're on here.
- 23:09That is so old. Find something new.
- 23:13Do you? Do you remember Tony Stewart's
- 23:15quote? Let's turn them around
- 23:17backwards. See how many cars we can wreck.
- 23:20Let's wreck the whole field, gay nerd.
- 23:23I love you and I'm so happy you're on here.
- 23:26They're going to wreck. And NASCAR don't make them
- 23:29wreck. They wreck.
- 23:31The drivers wrecked themselves. So Game Nerd, I understand that
- 23:36your driver wrecked out when anybody says something like
- 23:38that. So Game Nerd, respond, who is
- 23:41your driver? Guarantee you he wrecked because
- 23:44that's the way he always goes, right?
- 23:46So, and you're going to lie for a comeback, but that's OK, Game
- 23:49Nerd, I love you. This is Daytona and this is
- 23:53Talladega. The drivers wreck themselves.
- 23:56They they run into each other. NASCAR doesn't do that.
- 24:00There's a gas, there's a brake and it is the environment.
- 24:07I did it my whole life and I used to say, tell me when
- 24:10there's 10 to go and buddy, I'd start pushing people harder.
- 24:15My my goal was like the great Dick Trickle taught me you must
- 24:20first finish to finish first. So I didn't believe in wrecking
- 24:25out early. I was, I didn't have an Eagle.
- 24:30I once asked my team Charlie, I said, hey, do you guys want me
- 24:32to run upfront about halfway through and wreck out or do you
- 24:36want me to, you know, I have a chance to win the race?
- 24:39I think I've had some teams say go ahead and wreck out.
- 24:41We just want you upfront. It's like, Oh my God, you're not
- 24:45running for a percentage because me, I'm, you know, I was getting
- 24:47like 3040% of the earnings. I'm like, I want to be there at
- 24:51the end so I have a chance to win.
- 24:53But you get some of these egotistic crew members, they're
- 24:56like, we don't care, you know, so they don't wreck until the
- 25:02end. They only wreck early when it's
- 25:04a mistake at the end, they're ready to wreck.
- 25:07They know they're going to wreck.
- 25:09So that's, that's superspeedway racing.
- 25:12That that is an old saying. And I wish people would quit
- 25:16saying that. It's just, it's like, it's like
- 25:18a repeat. Yeah.
- 25:20And and like you said, it's superspeedway racing.
- 25:23This isn't going to happen at every track.
- 25:24And I feel like people by now, you know, you're going to get
- 25:27this at Daytona and Talladega and even to a lesser extent, but
- 25:31pretty much also Atlanta now. I, I think what makes it so
- 25:35exciting is the fact that you really have no freaking idea
- 25:40who's going to win, right? Like.
- 25:41And at at. Smaller tracks, short tracks,
- 25:45and it it, it's good that at different tracks, right?
- 25:47Like the best car wins. As a fan, I think you want to
- 25:50see that. Sometimes you want to see a
- 25:51dominant car or you want to see the best car win.
- 25:54But at this point, we know what superspeedway racing is.
- 25:57And to me, that's the freaking excitement is when when you're
- 26:01sitting there, 5 to go and then there's that that wreck and
- 26:04there's the wreck on the final lap.
- 26:06You had no freaking clue who was going to win.
- 26:10Like when you saw that red car take the lead, I'm like, who is
- 26:13that? Is that Corey Lajoie?
- 26:14Oh my God, William Frickin Byron.
- 26:16Where the hell did he come from? Like that's the excitement.
- 26:19You had no idea who's going to come out of that pile of cars to
- 26:22win. Charlie, I couldn't have said it
- 26:25better for in there's so many people in America that want the
- 26:29little guy to win, you know, because they're life, they
- 26:33struggle, right? So, you know, we all want the
- 26:35little guy to do good. I do.
- 26:37I want the little guy to do good.
- 26:39I do. OK, let's let's make that sane.
- 26:43That's that. But the bottom line is this is
- 26:49the race that the little guy can do good, right?
- 26:54Corey Lajoie's up there, you know, I mean drivers that, you
- 26:58know, don't have the money, but their cars are equal.
- 27:02So this should be the race that the people like where their
- 27:08little guy, this is the race where they show up.
- 27:12They're not going to have a chance at any other track, you
- 27:15know, because it's it's about engineers.
- 27:17But this is the everybody listen to me.
- 27:20This is the one race. Daytona, Talladega, you know, so
- 27:25many of you want the little guy to do good because you don't
- 27:28have much money. I don't got much money.
- 27:30So I want the little guy to do good.
- 27:32I'm always pulling for the underdog.
- 27:34This is your race, Charlie. You're exactly right.
- 27:40It was just cool too. It's it's cool to see the
- 27:42storylines. It it's funny because after
- 27:45every restart, after every wreck, I, I would still see
- 27:48Austin Sindrick right there with a chance to win.
- 27:51And you're thinking after all this, and and I like Austin
- 27:53Sindrick, nothing against him, but he's kind of boring, right?
- 27:55And you're thinking, you're thinking, is there going to be
- 27:57another race where all of a sudden just Austin Sindrick with
- 28:00a really fast car wins and and kind of a boring fashion, But
- 28:04with each wreck, it's like, OK, then all of a sudden Kyle Busch
- 28:07is near the front. OK, can Kyle Busch win it in his
- 28:0920th try? And then he gets wiped out?
- 28:12And then you're like, oh, there's Denny Hamlin.
- 28:14Could Denny Hamlin win his fourth Daytona 500?
- 28:16To me, that's the fun of it is after every wreck there's like
- 28:20there's brand new storylines after every wreck.
- 28:23Charlie, I couldn't have said it better because you go back to
- 28:26the, you know, they call them the duels now, the dual 150.
- 28:32Nobody was mad about the caution flag falling.
- 28:35They were mad that that 43. You know, we said it before.
- 28:39Richard Petty was the last person to win at Daytona 1977.
- 28:43I was bummed out. I was just bummed out.
- 28:47The people went frigging nuts. They went back crazy.
- 28:51I'm trying to make it where you don't have to beat this out,
- 28:53Charlie. We're live.
- 28:55We're live. You can just say it.
- 28:57What's that? We're live.
- 28:59I can't believe you. You can just say it well.
- 29:01Yeah, that, you know, that was, you know, so it goes all the way
- 29:04back to Thursday night. So many storylines.
- 29:06You know, they did the right thing.
- 29:09They threw the caution flag, da, da, whatever, you know, are they
- 29:13consistent? No, they're not consistent with
- 29:15it. I, I am glad they made that call
- 29:17right there. I'm, I'm glad they let the
- 29:20Daytona 500 finish because everybody was, you know, it was
- 29:23the way it was. What'd he say right there,
- 29:27Charlie? I like to ask real long, What'd
- 29:28he? Say, yeah, we're getting some
- 29:29some super chat. So we appreciate that.
- 29:32Matthew Brown says it's obviously a great accomplishment
- 29:35to win 25 hundreds for William, but we've seen this show from
- 29:38him before. Strong start, bland finish by
- 29:41the end of the season. He needs to win the championship
- 29:44soon. Well, he did.
- 29:45He did get to the championship last year, but he did start out
- 29:48hot and then kind of had a cold spell throughout the summer last
- 29:51year. OK, let me say this, Matthew,
- 29:55valid point, but you and I are sitting on the couch that that's
- 30:00like telling Dan Marino he was not a very good quarterback
- 30:03since he didn't win the Super Bowl.
- 30:06That's like telling Kyle Busch, Kyle, you haven't won the
- 30:10Daytona 500, so your career's not complete.
- 30:14Hold on. I'm on a roll here.
- 30:16That's like telling Rusty Wallace, Rusty, you never won
- 30:19the Daytona 500, so your career's not complete.
- 30:24This is life, Matthew, and this is competition.
- 30:27There's an old Rolling Stone song.
- 30:30You can't always get what you want home, but if you try real
- 30:36hard, you know, you know the rest.
- 30:37So I understand you, but I'm not, I'm not going to go there.
- 30:44William is A and he's won a lot of Cup races and he's a two time
- 30:49Daytona 500 winner under green flag.
- 30:53Like, you know, he won the last one straight up.
- 30:56He was giving this one. That's fine.
- 30:58But he didn't wreck out and he was there.
- 31:00And like I said, you must first finish to finish first.
- 31:04So I hear you, Matthew, but I'm not going to go there because
- 31:09Mark Martin didn't win a championship.
- 31:12Mark Martin did not win a championship.
- 31:14Dale Earnhardt junior, I mean, we can play that game all day
- 31:18long. There are several drivers in the
- 31:20NASCAR Hall of Fame that did not win at all, but they showed up.
- 31:25Dale Junior didn't come. You know, he didn't win the
- 31:27championship. You know, Rusty did, but didn't
- 31:31win the date. You see what I mean?
- 31:33You can go any way you want. You can go any way you want it.
- 31:37It's it's like the great Dick Trickle told me, as long as you
- 31:40can justify it, I would never in a million years ago.
- 31:44Well, William Biden never won a championship.
- 31:47I'm going to go. That's Sunburger one
- 31:49back-to-back Daytona 500. That's incredible.
- 31:52The first one he flat out won. The second one, he was there at
- 31:56the at the at the finish. So yeah, but but I hear you.
- 32:00That's good. That's good.
- 32:02AM debate talk. Yeah, yeah.
- 32:05So thank you to Matthew Brown, thank you to Noah's Athletics,
- 32:08thank you to David Bell, thank you to Gino.
- 32:11Gino also asked Herm. Let's see, I'll bring it back
- 32:15up. Gino.
- 32:16Hey, Kenny, nice to see you. Why are so many cars flipping
- 32:19upside down? Say hi to Mike for me.
- 32:21He is a true gentleman. So thank you.
- 32:25Mike is in Lai don't know. I mean, I do know why I almost
- 32:30feel like brother Mike wanted to get away, you know?
- 32:35So Mike's out there. Kevin Gundaker, what's he want
- 32:42here? Could you get a hold of Michael
- 32:44Walter for me and ask him to call me?
- 32:47I want to talk to him about serving beer at Tri-City
- 32:50Speedway and Granite sitting on the hold on all.
- 32:53Right. Kevin period, I will tell him
- 32:58and I will get you his number. Period.
- 33:01We are live on Kenny Wallace YouTube show right now and I
- 33:06just gave you a shout out. OK, I heard you but I forgot
- 33:11what you said. Gino said.
- 33:14Say hi to Mike. Oh yeah, I'll bring it back up.
- 33:16But also their question was about cars flipping.
- 33:20Yeah, OK, here. Here's what I say, Gino.
- 33:25They did everything they could do to put down force on the car,
- 33:29push the car down, but they forgot about the car turning
- 33:33upside down. So, you know, I call it a turtle
- 33:39shell. I call it a turtle shell.
- 33:44Austin Harris just said. Austin, can you tell Dale Junior
- 33:49I said hi. Hi, Austin.
- 33:52Love you, buddy. What's?
- 33:53Up Austin. Yeah, So those cars are turtle
- 33:59shell bottoms. They don't do good when they
- 34:02flip over. And I I think it's a deal,
- 34:06Charlie. Where what's going on is not
- 34:09supposed to happen. They put these cars through all
- 34:12these, you know, tests and like that deal tonight, he ramped not
- 34:19to boy, good memory. I got a good memory.
- 34:22The last time I saw that was turn 2 in Michigan last year.
- 34:27Corey Lajoie, right front ramped on somebody's left rear.
- 34:33It did happen. We got to go back to the
- 34:35Michigan replay Turn 2, but I don't know if it's because, you
- 34:42know, when you look at the front of those cars, they kind of got,
- 34:45hold on, let's take Earnhardt's car here.
- 34:48Here's what I've noticed on the new cars.
- 34:53On the new cars, they got a little bit of a flare that comes
- 34:56out right here, a flare right here.
- 35:03I think what happens is the tire really does stick out a little
- 35:06bit, but the plastic body covers it.
- 35:10And when it runs into another car, that plastic gives away is
- 35:14what's going on. Because when I look at those
- 35:16cars, they look cool. Got those little flares that
- 35:19come out. But if you smash those flares
- 35:22in, you run right into the tire, the right front tire.
- 35:26And now these cars are rampant. Now I'm just saying, I think
- 35:30that's what's happening. There's that three car.
- 35:35That's a pretty looking car right there.
- 35:36Oh yeah. It's a beauty.
- 35:39Yeah, we got some good stuff here.
- 35:40Everybody talks about we got our our Dick trickle.
- 35:44So yeah, I I just say that the one that we're going to have to
- 35:53calm down right now is I want to say this everybody.
- 35:58I want to. I want to.
- 36:00This is my wish. We've just come off of two of
- 36:05the best starts in NASCAR in 20 years.
- 36:11Don't, don't play that game where it was a rec fest.
- 36:16They're all rec fest. Don't play that game where they
- 36:19did. They should have thrown the
- 36:20caution. So what if they throw the
- 36:23caution? You still got the same, same
- 36:26winner. So don't do that and I encourage
- 36:31you to don't do that because the racing is good here.
- 36:35We've had we've had Mark Martin right here.
- 36:37Go back and look at Mark Martin on Kenny conversation and
- 36:40Charlie, I know you remember what Mark said.
- 36:43You want to repeat what Mark said?
- 36:44Somebody said I. Remember, he said, something
- 36:47like this is the best racing in history.
- 36:49In history, yes. He said.
- 36:52But I don't like the car, right? That's right, And we know he
- 36:56hates the number placement. Yeah, and you know, because Mark
- 37:03and myself, Charlie, we, we're mechanically inclined, this car
- 37:07is very hard to work on, but it is the best racing.
- 37:13And all we're doing nowadays is we've got this social media and
- 37:18whenever somebody's car gets wrecked out, people lose their
- 37:20damn minds. So, yeah.
- 37:23All right, what else we got, Charlie?
- 37:25Susan says it was awesome. Bring on the rest of the season.
- 37:28Let's get back to just cheering on our favorites with a bunch of
- 37:31hearts, I think. Yeah, Thank you, Susan.
- 37:34I I thought what was interesting too, at the end, once you're
- 37:37seeing William Byron win, it's just it's just funny sometimes
- 37:40how you know, because everybody talks about Hendrick as as they
- 37:43should. Hendrick is running the show for
- 37:45several years. They're always really, really
- 37:47good. And Chase Elliott basically has
- 37:51the best car wire to wire at the Clash and wins.
- 37:54And then this race tonight, all that, all that you see, all that
- 37:58we talk about is Penske, Penske, Penske, Penske.
- 38:01And then at the end you start thinking, oh, there's a bunch of
- 38:03Toyotas. Remember at the end there they
- 38:05did, they did it on the broadcast.
- 38:06They said five of the top eight at the end Toyota cars.
- 38:11So you're thinking, OK, after talking about Penske for the
- 38:13whole race, is a Toyota going to sneak in there and win?
- 38:16And then when it's all said and done, Hendrick, Hendrick again,
- 38:20that we didn't talk about the whole freaking race, basically
- 38:23gets the win. You, you are so good at your job
- 38:26because you made you made my brain think.
- 38:28Early in that rain delay, they were interviewing Brad
- 38:33Keselowski. Brad Keselowski said something
- 38:37that made me go. Brad said we don't have enough
- 38:40cars to be strong on the speedways.
- 38:43And the reason we brought Ryan Priest is that way we, we have
- 38:46more cars in our team to have a chance to go upfront.
- 38:50So you know, you're sitting there with Brad Keselowski,
- 38:54Chris Buscher, That was it only two.
- 38:56Now they got a third one that blew me away for Brad to come
- 39:01out during the rain delay live on fox and say the reason we
- 39:05started 1/3 car is so we could have more chances.
- 39:10You, you see what I mean? That, that that's, I never
- 39:14thought about that because I didn't think people would have
- 39:16enough money. Hey, let's start another car so
- 39:18we have a better shot at winning.
- 39:21You know, it's going to cost you about $15 million, right?
- 39:25But you know that they, they find the damn money somewhere.
- 39:28You know what I mean? They find the damn money
- 39:31somewhere. And so my point is this, that's
- 39:36what Rick Hendrick did. He got four cars.
- 39:39And then if you want to add Justin Allgar in there, you got
- 39:42you got five cars, right. So there's Rick Hendrick with
- 39:48five opportunities to win the Daytona 500.
- 39:52So you brought up a point and didn't even know you brought it
- 39:55up. And I remember that during the
- 39:56rain delay. And I thought that was, I said,
- 39:59OK, that's smart. But man, just to start another
- 40:02car to have a shot at winning more races.
- 40:05That's that's fifteen, $20 million investment because these
- 40:08cars, I ask everybody, Charlie. You buy the car, you put the
- 40:13motor in. These cars are pushing a half,
- 40:15$1,000,000 each. So really interesting, you know.
- 40:21OK, so NJ Vinny says Cletus made Daytona.
- 40:27Now I know we're going back here to yesterday, but I got to say
- 40:29this Herm, I had heard of Cletus MacFarlane, right?
- 40:33And I knew about the, the YouTube channel.
- 40:35I knew about flying the helicopters with Greg Biffle and
- 40:38I knew he had a big following right?
- 40:394.1 million subscribers on YouTube.
- 40:42Herm, I could not believe we posted a couple videos.
- 40:46You, you did a little quick 3 minute video or whatever.
- 40:48I cut, cut a video out of our our live stream from yesterday.
- 40:53I could not believe the views on those videos.
- 40:56Like I knew the dude was popular.
- 40:58I had no frickin idea how popular that dude was and how
- 41:03many people not not even just young people.
- 41:05Herm, I know he's like 30 years old. 29.
- 41:07I had dudes who were 70 years old in the comments going.
- 41:10I used to love NASCAR. I haven't watched NASCAR in 15
- 41:12years. I watched the frickin arc erase
- 41:14because of Cletus MacFarlane. Charlie, YouTube is a
- 41:19phenomenon. And you have.
- 41:20I've learned that it's no secret how honest I am.
- 41:24I'm brutally honest. I don't think I get myself in
- 41:27trouble, but I think it makes people understand I'm going to
- 41:30say what I'm going to say because you can go to YouTube
- 41:32right now. He there there's a there's a
- 41:35YouTube push 1320 Cletus there. There's a 30 minute show out
- 41:42there Cletus and he's on 1320. That's how he got his start.
- 41:471320 on YouTube was the YouTube page that got Cletus started.
- 41:56Garrett Mitchell, his story is phenomenal.
- 42:00But I want to back up and say this, we're not going to tell
- 42:04everybody to figure, but it's a lot.
- 42:06We make, we do good. Did you ever think, Charlie,
- 42:09that you would make a living doing this with me?
- 42:13I, I didn't, I mean, I, I knew YouTube before I started with
- 42:16you. I was doing some stuff with
- 42:18Cardinals baseball and I knew there was a tremendous
- 42:21opportunity to have YouTube be a, a media network basically,
- 42:25which we've created for you When I called you on that Sunday and
- 42:29we started doing videos, whatever it was the next day.
- 42:31It was now three, 3 / 3 years ago.
- 42:34No, I, I had no idea it would grow this quickly into, I mean,
- 42:39it's, it's not just a full time job for me.
- 42:41It's essentially your full time job.
- 42:42This is like a, a legit business.
- 42:44It's a legit media network and it's pretty damn impressive.
- 42:48So we have we have Jags that sponsors this show.
- 42:52We have Sunoco that sponsors Coffee with Kenny.
- 42:57We have Kenny conversation. We have the Kenny Wallace show
- 43:01that right now this we call this the Kenny Wallace show.
- 43:05Then we have Kenny conversation where we interview the greatest
- 43:08athletes in the world. Then we have Coffee with Kenny.
- 43:11That's three shows right there. Then, you know, Dale Junior
- 43:15called us with Mike Davis, you know, and they said, would you
- 43:20please give us your Kenny conversation content and would
- 43:24you start Herman Schrader? Now we've got all these shows.
- 43:30You all love it. We appreciate you.
- 43:32OK, now let's go to Garrett Mitchell.
- 43:35Garrett Mitchell tells this incredible story where he's
- 43:38just, he just wants to be part of this group 1320.
- 43:42So we call ourselves Kenny Wallace.
- 43:44YouTube show. You go to 1320.
- 43:47Charlie push it in on YouTube. They got 3.6 million
- 43:52subscribers. Garrett Mitchell's up to 4.1
- 43:56now. But but Garrett Cletus
- 44:01McFarlane, he says in his 30 minute special, it's it's a 30
- 44:04minute special to all of us how he got started and and his story
- 44:11is got 1.1 million views. I watch it all last night.
- 44:14He's Garrett Mitchell, but he did one little video and he did
- 44:20like this. I'll tell you one thing right
- 44:22now, Earnhardt's my man. I I liked his daddy and he went
- 44:27full redneck and his buddy that was working the camera posted it
- 44:35and he he said he was going to make his name something, but but
- 44:38the guy said you're going to be Cletus MacFarlane because
- 44:41Cletus, it's like WWE, it's a show.
- 44:46So if everybody knows the real the everybody knows the real
- 44:51Garrett Mitchell, he's a real serious guy kind of like this.
- 44:55But there's there's something about creating a character.
- 44:59He is so damn funny and he says all the funny stuff.
- 45:03And here's the reason he's got so many viewers.
- 45:06Everybody's got a car. Everything he does is about a
- 45:10passenger car, about drag racing.
- 45:13So see, Charlie, we'll never get there because what we do, we're
- 45:18we're racing, racing, racing. What Cletus does is he creates
- 45:22this character and he's got like an old drag car.
- 45:26You see what I'm saying? And and so everything he does is
- 45:29he he relates with everybody. Everybody else is like, I got a
- 45:32car, you know, it's it is it's outlaw drag racing on the
- 45:37streets. It's illegal.
- 45:40Then he tells his story where he borrowed money from.
- 45:44Now here's the other little hidden secret.
- 45:47Garrett's mom and dad are pretty wealthy and that's on the down
- 45:50low. But but Garrett made it on his
- 45:54own and they wanted him to go to law school and and Cletus was
- 46:00going to law school and he he found himself in law school
- 46:04going found found himself on Instagram and Facebook.
- 46:08He goes, I can make a living at this just like you did, Charlie.
- 46:12So here's Cletus McFarland finds himself in law school because
- 46:15that's what his mom and dad wanting to do.
- 46:17And he's like, I see how much money 1320s making.
- 46:22I can do this. And he tells his daddy goes,
- 46:25Dad, I love you. And this is in the story.
- 46:27Somebody sent me the story last night.
- 46:29I watched it all. I watched all 30 minutes.
- 46:32So he did it on his own. So he takes all this money that
- 46:36he makes, he goes down, he buys Bradenton down there, I think in
- 46:40DeSoto somewhere and, and, and calls it what, what's it, what's
- 46:43he call it everybody. The Freedom Factory.
- 46:46Freedom Factory, they pick all the weeds.
- 46:48I've raced that track. I've run that track and he
- 46:52turned it into a show. And now he says it's making so
- 46:55much money. He was brave.
- 46:58He's the American dream. But I'm going to tell you what,
- 47:01to fly a helicopter, you got to be pretty damn good.
- 47:04So yeah, what's what's NJ saying here?
- 47:09OK, NJ, Vinny says about Cletus. He does much more than that.
- 47:13He does RC airplanes. He had to hold the door closed
- 47:16on his house during the hurricane.
- 47:19Right. And he and he records that.
- 47:21Yeah. You, you know, Charlie, I used
- 47:23to grab my phone and do videos when I was pooping In, in, in,
- 47:27in porta potties. Embarrassing, but they ate it
- 47:31up. They loved it.
- 47:32Hi, Charlie. Come here, baby.
- 47:34Come on. Come on.
- 47:37Yeah. Poppy's live on TV.
- 47:39You can say hi to everybody. Come on, then.
- 47:41You spending the night with me? Come here.
- 47:44Look here. There's thousands of people
- 47:46watching. Say hi.
- 47:48Come here. Say hi.
- 47:49Hi. What's your name?
- 47:51Charlotte. What's your nickname?
- 47:53Lodi. And there's my daughter, Brandy.
- 47:56Come on, Brandy. We're live my family.
- 47:59What are you all doing here this late at night?
- 48:01Come on, kids. Come on.
- 48:03Come on. Look here.
- 48:05Say hi. Come on up here.
- 48:08Come on. Get in there.
- 48:10Say hi. Say hi.
- 48:12Come on, Jet. Hi.
- 48:15Oh, there you is. He's good enough.
- 48:16Come on. Get in there.
- 48:18Hi. OK.
- 48:19And one more Mila. Hi.
- 48:22Let him see your face better. There's Mila.
- 48:25And then my daughter Brandy. Brandy don't want to be on TV,
- 48:28Ken. They're all watching us.
- 48:30But yeah, Charlie, the story of Cletus McFarland is wonderful,
- 48:35and he relates to everybody because he uses normal cars.
- 48:39And just like you said, you got to be good to fly a helicopter.
- 48:43And I I flew with rusting those helicopters.
- 48:46And those things are no joke. They're very dangerous.
- 48:49Cletus Garrett. Garrett is very smart.
- 48:52And I think another reason it works is everybody knows he's
- 48:54playing, but the stuff's real. He knows it's real, too.
- 48:58So I can relate. I love him.
- 49:02Yeah Charlie, one more thing I want to relate with you.
- 49:07I post a 3 minute observation of of Cletus McFarland on X.
- 49:14Did you see how many views they got?
- 49:16OK, so hold on a second because I put that on YouTube.
- 49:20I don't know if you knew that how how many views did it get on
- 49:22X? It's over 150,000 views on X.
- 49:27OK, my three minute observation. So I took that.
- 49:31So yesterday Kenny and I for everybody, we did a live show
- 49:36basically around what, around lunchtime.
- 49:39There were so many storylines from Daytona and and then we
- 49:44talked about Cletus a little bit, but then you did kind of a
- 49:47a coffee with Kenny basically on the couch.
- 49:49And I missed it because it was late at night.
- 49:52I should have called you. Well, no, it's all good.
- 49:54I think you know, whatever time it was and I'm doing stuff with
- 49:57my family and then I see it, I go, oh, so I put it on late and
- 50:00I just put it on YouTube and I kind of walk away.
- 50:03Not because if you do YouTube a long time, you usually kind of
- 50:07know how a video is going to do. I, we had never really talked
- 50:10about Thudos McFarlane. So I had no clue.
- 50:13So I leave my computer, I come back with I was like, I could
- 50:15not believe how many views it got.
- 50:18So so that three minute video, whatever it is, has 166,000
- 50:23views on YouTube and I couldn't believe it.
- 50:25Again, that's why I said I knew this dude was popular.
- 50:28I never knew he was that popular.
- 50:30It's freaking amazing. Unbelievable.
- 50:34I'm watch. I'm looking at it right now.
- 50:35That is insane. Well, I'm I texted the Biff.
- 50:40I texted Greg Biffle. Did did we?
- 50:42We did a Kenny conversation with Greg Biffle, didn't we?
- 50:45We did one before the helicopter stuff.
- 50:48Yeah, yes, sort of. The BIFF text me all the time
- 50:52and boy, when I, when he, when he, when the biff text me, when
- 50:56great people text me, I answer. He needed some shocks for his.
- 51:01What do they call those, those cars they run?
- 51:03Those little Mustangs or? Are they Crown Victorious?
- 51:07Yeah, yeah, yeah. So Cletus McFarland, Garrett
- 51:10Mitchell, they created this. You know, I wanted to buy a
- 51:13Crown Victoria just to drive around town.
- 51:15Well, so, so Biffle, he's got a little dirt track out in the
- 51:19middle of the woods up there in North Carolina.
- 51:22And the Biff calls me. He goes, Herman, I need to get
- 51:27some shocks. So now these guys, now they're
- 51:30getting competitive. They just couldn't run this
- 51:32fundraise. So I got Greg Biffle hooked up
- 51:35with my buddies at at Fox shocks.
- 51:38So the Biff, I'm going to reach out to Biff one more time and
- 51:42say, hey, I bet Cletus will let me interview him.
- 51:45And yeah, I I got great questions to ask him.
- 51:50All right, we. Got some more super thanks.
- 51:52We got Derrick Adams says Trump is the greatest.
- 51:55Obviously, Donald Trump was there at the beginning.
- 51:57He did a good, He did a good job.
- 51:59Trump did a good job. JJ Productions says I came to
- 52:04this show because of Cletus and I find Charlie, who I follow on
- 52:07X for Cardinals baseball updates, sick.
- 52:09How about that? I love it, Mr. Mr. Sadie says
- 52:14Love from Arnold MO Bubba. They moved our local house.
- 52:18Now you can barely get in there unless you're Kenny Wallace.
- 52:21Lol I'm going to tell you what I don't go to the local house
- 52:25because I think it's stupid. I get mad like I love the local
- 52:29house. They know me and I go in the
- 52:31local house and I say I'll take the grilled Buffalo chicken wrap
- 52:35with honey mustard because they don't like that hot sauce.
- 52:39Charlie. They moved it to where 51
- 52:43restaurant used to be, across from Walmart.
- 52:45Beautiful restaurant. You would think they're giving
- 52:48food away it it's worse than Texas Roadhouse.
- 52:52You can't even start to get in and I'm not dealing with that
- 52:56crap. There's no restaurant.
- 52:59OK, I'm glad you all do it. I'm not going to do it.
- 53:01You know what I do? I go around the corner to Mod
- 53:04Pizza and I get a sausage, pepperoni pizza and nice little
- 53:08salad. I love the local house.
- 53:11I think it's awesome, but I'm just not going to water and all
- 53:14that. I mean, it's, it's a restaurant.
- 53:17Everybody. I mean, I just don't.
- 53:19I just, I know what he's saying and the local house is killing
- 53:23it and I'm excited. But they do that Texas Roadhouse
- 53:26thing where everybody gets in. I got to eat.
- 53:29I'm like people, people quit breathing on me.
- 53:32You're all like this. You know me.
- 53:37When I get pissed, I go on a tangent.
- 53:39I love it. And then how about this one Red
- 53:41Hawk, another Saint Louis in or Saint Louis area from great
- 53:45above in Oakville, Missouri. How do you feel about Herbst's
- 53:49chances for this season? Thought he had a solid run with
- 53:52the great save to end it. Riley Herbst in his first year
- 53:54Cup with the 2311 Racing. One of the monster guys.
- 53:57Well, well, first of all, let's put something to bed.
- 53:59I don't want to hear it because I know everybody's already going
- 54:01to start. He's got money.
- 54:03You better have money. So put that to the side.
- 54:07OK? I don't want to hear about it.
- 54:09He's got money. His family owns 88 gas stations
- 54:13out on the West Coast. Terrible.
- 54:15Herbst. I don't want to hear it.
- 54:18He can drive the car. It's one thing if you got money
- 54:22and you can't drive, but he's a good kid and he can drive.
- 54:25And he just showed you he was there.
- 54:27At the end of the day, total 500.
- 54:29So yeah. And let's see here, we said it,
- 54:33but he ends up finishing. Herb's got 16th, but he was, you
- 54:38know, he's pushing them there at the end.
- 54:40Everybody wrecked out at the end there.
- 54:44So what do we got, Charlie? I think we got about 7 more
- 54:48minutes buddy. Yeah, I mean, I'll tell you what
- 54:50we got, we got 1200 people watching live right now.
- 54:56We've had over 10,000 people watching this post race live
- 55:00Daytona 500 show. So it it, it's fun too.
- 55:04I, I think it's cool. NASCAR season is so unique.
- 55:08Obviously at the end with Phoenix is so hyped, but the way
- 55:12that they kick it off with Daytona, I know it used to be
- 55:15speed weeks and it was a couple weeks, but still, if you start
- 55:17with qualifying on Wednesday, you're getting 5 solid days of
- 55:21racing and you're really building up people to to to know
- 55:25that NASCAR is back, right? And maybe everybody didn't love
- 55:30the way tonight's race finished. I thought it was great and I
- 55:33just thought it was typical Daytona 500 Super Speedway
- 55:35racing, so I thought it was cool.
- 55:38The race was awesome Charlie it it's this new era of my driver
- 55:42wrecked out. I hate smoop.
- 55:44We all watched OK, let me say this about speed weeks.
- 55:49A lot of us are old, OK? And we remember speed weeks when
- 55:52they were when, when they would run the Bud Shootout, right?
- 55:57And we would run that Bud Shootout on a Saturday or Sunday
- 56:01the week before and we would qualify and we would practice
- 56:06Monday, Tuesday when we took Monday off.
- 56:09But there was a time that we were at Daytona literally on
- 56:15track on track Friday to Friday, 7-8 straight days.
- 56:23Then we'd run the race. Then Charlie, what happened is
- 56:27they realized that our, our now follow my storyline here.
- 56:32Then I'm going to talk about right now.
- 56:35The reason speed weeks got, you know, Wendell, you know, got
- 56:41smaller was they realized that the people couldn't spend 8-9
- 56:46days there anymore. Times changed.
- 56:49Our sport fell mightily. Remember we were putting 250,000
- 56:53people in the grandstands. Then we we admitted NASCAR fell,
- 56:58it fell 70%. So when NASCAR fell we had to
- 57:04readjust like OK, we can't do speed weeks 11 straight days
- 57:09anymore because the the sports not as popular as it used to be.
- 57:13See, we got no problem admitting that are our sport is not as big
- 57:17as it used to be. But I tell you what, there's
- 57:19still 100,000 people in the grandstands.
- 57:22There's still 60,000 people at each race.
- 57:25So when they realize we fell mightily, it's OK, let's let's
- 57:30take speed weeks and you know, let's bring everybody in on, you
- 57:33know, we started qualifying on Wednesday, so we qualify
- 57:36Wednesday. We got, you know, the the duels
- 57:41on Thursday, we got the truck race on Friday, Xfinity and
- 57:45Orca. You know, we're we're still five
- 57:48days. We're still five days.
- 57:50Now the reason I call it speed weeks is because I went down
- 57:55January 30th and ran my very first dirt race.
- 57:58I ran 9 out of 10 straight nights.
- 58:02And there's racing all around Daytona.
- 58:05You got New Smyrna, you got Volusia, you got Ocala, all
- 58:11these dirt tracks, Charlie. So when you when you bring in
- 58:14New Smyrna, the dirt tracks and Daytona, it's speed weeks.
- 58:18It's still speed weeks to me -6 days at the big track.
- 58:23So it's still awesome and I love it.
- 58:29And hopefully I explained to everybody why we aren't at
- 58:32Daytona 810 days anymore. Yeah, somebody actually said
- 58:38basically what you just said. MBR says yeah, speedways got
- 58:43expensive back in O1, O2 and no Airbnb 8 days at Adam's mark was
- 58:48ridiculous. Yeah, I'm with you.
- 58:51I mean, so we we adjusted times, you know, Charlotte, when you
- 58:56know where you're at, for example, I'm going to I'm always
- 58:59honest. My brother Rusty's great.
- 59:02He's, you know, and I love him. People like they think it's
- 59:06going to bother me or something. Oh, you're, you're riding your
- 59:09brother's coattail. I'm like, right, I love my
- 59:12brother, but they so it's weird how some people think things are
- 59:16bad and like it's demoralizing. It is not demoralizing to me
- 59:20that Daytona has had to go down to six days.
- 59:23We just had to my, what's my new phrase, Charlie?
- 59:26Right size, right size. This is the era we are in.
- 59:31I mean, NASCAR's nothing like it used to be.
- 59:35The NFL is nothing like it used to be.
- 59:38Now those, those helmets are better.
- 59:41I mean, look at look at baseball, Charlie.
- 59:43They're they're radioing each other.
- 59:45They don't, they hardly do handsome.
- 59:47They're, they got to, you know, they're telling each other what
- 59:49pitch to throw. Pitch com Yeah.
- 59:51Everything's different, everything.
- 59:54So our our, our day, our glory days are over, but we still
- 59:58doing good and and we still doing good.
- 1:00:02I love it. You know what, you you, you said
- 1:00:04we're still doing good, right? As we hit exactly on an hour.
- 1:00:07I think we should end on that. What do you think?
- 1:00:10I think so. Charlie, I'd like you to edit
- 1:00:11this up and I'd like to know if you will maybe put that caution
- 1:00:16thing out because I, I see a couple people, not many, they're
- 1:00:20not beating it like a dead horse like Larry Mack say.
- 1:00:23But I like the way I explained why it was OK, because if they
- 1:00:28were to throw the caution, the finish still would have been the
- 1:00:32same. Yeah.
- 1:00:34All right. I love it.
- 1:00:35Yeah, people, the second we're done, they can also go back and
- 1:00:38watch this as a recorded video. And I'll also, I'm also going to
- 1:00:41put it on podcast as well. And Speaking of podcasts
- 1:00:45yourself, Ken Schrader will record Herman Schrader tomorrow,
- 1:00:49which will come out on Wednesday.
- 1:00:52Yeah, I think tomorrow it's going to be pretty easy content.
- 1:00:55Yeah, you can't. We record it.
- 1:00:58I mean, it's going to be all Daytona.
- 1:01:00We'll slide some dirt racing in there and a joke what Schrader's
- 1:01:05been up to and he drove back, I know, Thursday.
- 1:01:07So All right, Charlie. All right, Herm, appreciate it.
- 1:01:12Thank you everybody for watching here.
- 1:01:13We got one more. We got one more Super thanks
- 1:01:16here. I'll put it up there.
- 1:01:17It's a humming along says now we just need Cletus racing NASCAR
- 1:01:21at the Rock. I'm telling everybody loves
- 1:01:22Cletus. So thank you for watching.
