- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: Plenty of hard-a-half-celled sir, you can drink in the streets there because it's gasp or real-a-fast, another fun, southern tradition, AJ Buckley joins us today, one of our good homies, there he is, good old fashioned homies, AJ, have you ever been in gasp for the first?
- 1:05[SPEAKER_01]: No, I haven't, I've heard a lot about them.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: That's, everybody said the same thing, I've never even heard of it.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_01]: To me, it's like the
- 1:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm going to go try to sell a number of helicopters.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_02]: Perfect.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_02]: And we'll see if I hit the record or not.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_01]: OK, I like that a lot.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: Where are you at these days, AJ?
- 1:26[SPEAKER_05]: You and South Carolina?
- 1:28[SPEAKER_05]: No, I'm in New Orleans right now.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_05]: I'm starting to prep on a movie that I'm permission and acting in.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_01]: No shit.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_01]: What's the name of it?
- 1:36[SPEAKER_05]: I keep it's untitled right now because it's a book series that I got the rights to about five years ago, and it hasn't been announced yet, so I have to keep it on a raps, but over the next week or so I can, but it's, it's been, I mean, you know, Ross, but anybody's, it's been a long road to get to here and I actually, I mean, my production office, which is.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_05]: I can see it.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_05]: It feels good.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_05]: It feels good.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_05]: I got the couch, casting couch for the day.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_05]: I want to be in it, buddy.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: They always give you these white walled rooms and you're there for a couple months.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's the cheapest form of production and then boom, that's it.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_01]: You're out of there.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_01]: They don't let you hang stuff up.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_01]: Just a bunch of posters or whatever and then you're gone.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: Can I ask you, there's this, there's this picture that's been floating around Hollywood.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_01]: Is it you can just give me a yes or no on this is it bland Frank and it's a it's about a black and Frank for Netflix.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: Is it that movie?
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: Is that the one you're shooting down there?
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: If it is, I just, you can kind of blink or, or just kind of nod your head.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_02]: I've got a really good joke right now, but I feel like it would get AJ in trouble, so I'm gonna keep it to myself.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you should, I won't, because it looks like you're in that room that she was in right now, so I didn't know...
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it had windows.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: Did it?
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: The inadequate.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but I think it had one, right?
- 2:57[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: Bob did it have a window in there and Frank's room.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: I hope not.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: Look it up.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: I wanted it like hopefully she seems to think that's how she got caught.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_02]: She's peeking out the window.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: Woo!
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: Biggies!
- 3:08[SPEAKER_01]: My god.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_01]: Biggie booze!
- 3:11[SPEAKER_02]: That's Netflix though, Daddy.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_02]: You know?
- 3:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you got to church it up for Hollywood, man.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_02]: Sure, dude.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_02]: Sure, dude.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_02]: So it actually happened.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_02]: Life is too boring for that shit.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_05]: Speaking of Netflix, I just read a deadline to do that sealed team is moving to Netflix.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, where is?
- 3:23[SPEAKER_01]: And you're about to, I was just going to bring that up.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_01]: You're about to have the biggest boost ever.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_01]: Have you had a series, go to Netflix or any movies?
- 3:30[SPEAKER_05]: I had a head CS on New York, go to Netflix, which was pretty cool.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_05]: And then I've had, yeah, it's crazy when you, if a movie plays on these other platforms or just, and then gets in that Netflix, it's such a big monster.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_05]: But when we be on,
- 3:44[SPEAKER_05]: Paramount plus for 10 years and haven't gone anyway and other shows CBS shows have been on Paramount on Netflix and so many so much of the world had in the scene tilting it so I'm excited for it to go over there Yeah, it's gonna it's gonna blow up man.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: It just happened to suits and so they ended up bringing suits back suits ended up being number one on Netflix as far as TV shows go for like six Yeah, for that on there for a cult like a month and a half or two months
- 4:07[SPEAKER_01]: And then they did a reboot and put it back on television.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: Last year, I think one or two seasons, but Megan Markled didn't come back.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: As you said, she was making jam with her husband somewhere.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, should shit to do.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, let me actually this.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_02]: So you did 140 some episodes of CSI.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_05]: Yep.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_02]: Um, that's a lot, one.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think you'll ever be able to go back and play a nerd again?
- 4:35[SPEAKER_02]: you know what after you know seal team and hunt you just had hunting season come out last year I mean what the fuck you know there's
- 4:44[SPEAKER_05]: The one of the most fun I ever had a character I played on on Supernatural, which was the Ghost Faces, which was these kind of Ghost Hunter guys, and it was fucking awesome, because we basically, it ended up being like the first spin-up of the franchise, and we went off, and we, we basically us filming ourselves like Ghost Hunters, that was just like doing theater.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_05]: So I, I would love to, dude, if it means I got to do some ozampic, and
- 5:07[SPEAKER_05]: lose 30 pounds and look all gotten and throw in some very glasses.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_05]: I would do it.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_05]: I would do it.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_05]: I bet you would.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: How was supernatural?
- 5:15[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, the best.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_05]: It was that was, when I say one of the most fun characters ever, that was the great, because they ended up, we got our spin-off and I wrote and directed the spin-off with my partner.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_05]: on that Travis Western.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_05]: At the time, we were sort of at what did they say, a dollar short a day late?
- 5:36[SPEAKER_05]: We were before our time, before the inner web had really taken off and they didn't understand how to read into things.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_05]: So we were the first spin-off online, but it just they configured out so they kind of put it aside.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_05]: But maybe there could be, I mean, talking to somebody and maybe there's a way to bring it back in the micro-drama space.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_05]: And I would be, I would be back in
- 5:57[SPEAKER_05]: is again.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, because Holly was going through a very, very strange transition right now.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_01]: It feels like Netflix after this Warner Brothers deal goes through, which I think it will.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_01]: They made it all cash off for this morning.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to own Warner Brothers.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to own Discovery.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to own HBO.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_01]: Now they've got their claws then to the NFL.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously
- 6:22[SPEAKER_01]: Or is it what was the Monday at one?
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think it's SmackDown.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: They got live.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: That's their move in in support casts the podcast started last week Bill Simmons the bar still guys are over there and then obviously you got this stand-up comedy now Matt Damon in Ben Affleck you're making the rounds talking about their new Netflix movie.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_01]: It was awesome.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_01]: I was gonna.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: That's what's gonna ask him.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_01]: It's awesome.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_05]: I haven't I haven't watched
- 6:50[SPEAKER_05]: Like, it wasn't the, it's been a, you might be like the movie Nark that Joe Caron did, if he's the director of this.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_01]: One of my very favorites, yes.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, so it had, it finally, like Joe Caron, and I think he's, he's a great director, but some of the ones he's done prior to, I was like, like, I brute for that guy to be, like, to have, like, he's a great director, but this is like a throwback to that, like it felt good.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_01]: That's awesome.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because one of our mutual B-Fries claimed Crawford did a movie with Joe smoke and aces.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't see cool to that with them and I'd always love smoke and aces, but it's interesting to hear their stories now because I'm seeing all these actors finally go on podcast and actually open up and tell the real stories behind the shit and it's actually making them more likable.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: So with Matt Damon and Ben Afflack, they were kind of going over their career and Hollywood and everything else and how Netflix is remaking them repeat the plot line four to five times in the opening third acts, which is typically the most first half hour or 30 pages of a script because they said people are on their phones at home watching Netflix on screen.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: You have to repeat that plot line
- 8:01[SPEAKER_01]: four to five times in order for it to sink in their head and then get the rest of the story going um did you notice any of that in that film?
- 8:10[SPEAKER_05]: I was on my phone I swear yeah, I guess I was doing notes on this fucking script and I was like the appreciate how my test probably went like that I didn't actually want it but I didn't I didn't know that that's
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: Holy shit dude, so the algorithm is real.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_00]: God damn it.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_00]: We just talked about that in the end.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: Ross passed revolution.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_05]: I was like I like it back and watch it now without being on my phone and like be locked in, but I was I was watching the last night in the hotel room.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_05]: I was just like I was and I was just preoccupied by but
- 8:41[SPEAKER_05]: But yeah, I get it to it's like, it's a different experience.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, it can even take my kids to the movie here.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_05]: It's such like a foreign thing for them.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_05]: Like, we'll go, but we wait for like the big things to come.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_05]: And it's a good dose of very rare these days.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_02]: Why don't we do it like, I mean, this is just from, and I think Matt and Ben probably are tapped pretty tapped into this.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_02]: They've always been good at making films.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_02]: Excellent.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_02]: They're very, very, very bright guys.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, really.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_02]: Intermissions, you know what I mean?
- 9:15[SPEAKER_05]: I totally agree.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_02]: Like that makes a lot of sense to me.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_02]: If we're tracking back to a different type of viewing style like that, why not make an intermission that's monetizable to help the business, you know what I mean?
- 9:27[SPEAKER_02]: Give people some, give people a time to reset so they can come back and refocus, but also you can sell that time at as ad space or you can sell it as fucking.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_02]: concession space or whatever, get people out there and watch it stop.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_02]: It makes a lot of sense.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_05]: And I love the fact that they took care of the crew, man.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_05]: It was such a nice thing to see people at that level really caring about, you know, right from the PA to, you know, you know, you know, Ross is like, you know, there's so many people that go to, to make it a movie and there's
- 9:56[SPEAKER_05]: You know, when when when people show up and they're invested in what they're going to work on and he give him some good food and, you know, they feel they will make the best movie possible and they will, you know, and it goes a long way and I think if more people could adapt that model the studios could it it really pays off.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and to your point, and I'll tell the audience this, when AJ says investment, he means actual money here.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_01]: So their company is called Artist Equity.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: They negotiated a groundbreaking deal with Netflix for the rip in which it allowed all 1200 crew members to receive performance-based bonuses if the movie succeeds, which is a significant shift from Netflix's typical ship because
- 10:37[SPEAKER_01]: You know, when I've sold movies in Netflix, or I've had other movies go there, my streaming sucks, like my residual suck and everything else.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_01]: Now this new company with Matt and Ben is actually distributing the profit, if they're evenly across it.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_01]: Every crew member, every actor, everything else, if it does well on Netflix.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_01]: So, when you start a film,
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: And you're getting, you're trying to rally the troops and get everybody together to go on this ride with you.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_01]: If you've got skin in the game like this, you're going to try to bring it every single department, every single level and all that other shits.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's brilliant what they did, but these are the first guys to ever do something like this.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_05]: It's true.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_05]: And you have like guys like Clint Eastwood and Paul,
- 11:21[SPEAKER_05]: Uh, uh, what's it that guy, uh, what's he does all the Seth Rogan, uh, huh, right?
- 11:29[SPEAKER_05]: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
- 11:45[SPEAKER_05]: Roll the sleeves up and get dirty and make it and then also to it's like the fucking crew is there three hours before we actors are there There are three hours after and most households or it's like you got somebody that's you know in crafty You got somebody that's a focus polar like people in film are usually a family So that that type of kickback can be absolutely life saving and life changing if it's a real hit
- 12:09[SPEAKER_05]: to a family and host little, I could push the actors like we get taking care of so well, but if it wasn't for the crew, right down to the PA's, you know, doing everything, like what the movie wouldn't be what it is or the show wouldn't be what it is.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_01]: 100% agree and so the final deal with them for Netflix.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_01]: The implemented a bonus system tied to the film's performance first first 90 days on the platform which is always your biggest anyways.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_01]: You know after 90 days usually you know five or six out of the things come out and something else takes over.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it's excellent and it's not just the stars.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_01]: You're talking about gaffers, costume designers.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_01]: I mean the entire crew gets a cut of this bonus if it does well.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's a good idea.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_02]: I mean it's certainly like profit sharing at a company is a good idea.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_02]: Most companies that take that next step.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_02]: and either go into a large retail or publicly traded space, we'll always set aside some percentage of the company for the employees, right?
- 13:08[SPEAKER_02]: Just as incentive structure, which makes a lot of sense.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of stuff that Hollywood could change immediately that would make a lot of sense, and I'm not sure why they don't do it.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know why, for example, you're working on you've secured rights to a book, and you're going to make a movie out of it.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_02]: And regardless of how well the movie does, the book will see X percent sales and agrees on the back end.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_02]: If I am Penguin or St. Martin's or any of these companies, I am persistently opting books to people that can get films made.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_02]: Films or series are even if it's micro, even if it's just internet shit.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't even matter, right?
- 13:45[SPEAKER_02]: Because the license to the material is worth nothing if nobody does anything with it.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_02]: So anytime you put any kind of extra
- 13:54[SPEAKER_02]: content piece together, off of that source material, that source material in this world, get boosted up 20, 40, 50, to sometimes thousands of percent.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody gave a shit about certain books before they hit the big screen, right?
- 14:10[SPEAKER_02]: Like the,
- 14:12[SPEAKER_02]: Harry Potter did well, but Normie's had no idea what it was until it became a fucking TV show, and now she's worth $2 billion, because of your rights.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_05]: You can be sure it's a Lord of the Rings, too.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_05]: That whole new generation that had read the book, then went back and read the book again, and then it spun off.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_02]: which makes a lot of sense for Lord of the Rings because that's kind of how we got started, right?
- 14:34[SPEAKER_02]: Lord of the Rings got started by being serialized on A.M. radio.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_02]: The book was out, obviously.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_02]: You can put the book out.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_02]: But just like C.S.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_02]: Lewis and Louis and the more and all these other novelists, novelists, they were put in there.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_02]: They were put in one chapter at a time on A.M. radio on like Saturday, morning for kids listen to.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_05]: I think if you walk into a studio with secured IP, it makes your deal of that much section.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_05]: If it makes space, because then you're bringing a whole audience, if it was a New York Times best seller or something like that, and you have that, and it's that you're bringing a whole audience.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_05]: There's a secondary revenue stream and all the different things that you can access in.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_05]: It just makes it based on such and then as the writer and director is what we have liberty to tell the story, but it makes it that much more so it's over the course of seal team.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_05]: I kind of aggressively went after like eight or nine different books that I locked up that I'm sort of playing around with.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_05]: But it's been fun, man.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_05]: It's a different chapter in my life, and it's good, but I do like this idea of this incorporating the crew and
- 15:36[SPEAKER_01]: find a way to build that in and in success and you share it for sure and I'm interested to see the final numbers of not only how the movie did but also with the crew made off of that and whether or not that is a model that could possibly go into the future because
- 15:52[SPEAKER_01]: Let's face it Hollywood is broken, you know it and yeah, and I you've got to fix it somehow I think it's a great first step because the movies that are out there and this was my next question for you is an actor Not a producer and a writer and all that stuff is To me what I'm here for most of my friends is there isn't a lot out there?
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: I mean even audition wise or TV show wise or anything and if you aren't creating your own projects right now You're kind of fucked
- 16:19[SPEAKER_05]: Yep, you really are, and I think I always, I've always been a hustler just, you know, trying to pretty fun stuff or whether it's, it's.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_05]: You know, businesses or whatever, I can't sit still, but it is definitely hard like anybody even is getting into the business right now.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_05]: It's hard, I mean, we're in New Orleans right now.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_05]: And when we started looking at here, there was no productions here at all.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_05]: And 10 years ago, you were like, I'm gonna 12 month wait for any studio space.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_05]: Right now, at Second Line Studios, we're one of the only productions here, starting prep.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_05]: But there's four or five movies now lining up.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_05]: They're coming to town and hotels,
- 16:57[SPEAKER_05]: after Martin Girl happens production of things.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_05]: So, you know, this movie was gonna be shot overseas, and we myself and the director really made a push to do it here in America just because we knew how rough it was for everybody.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_05]: It's definitely biting us in the ass a little bit because how fucking expensive it is.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_05]: And I don't know what we negotiated with SIG.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_05]: but that did nothing.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_05]: It made it so expensive and so rough.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_05]: I get why people go over season now, but you know, I just feel like there's got to be some sort of change within the dynamic how we do it to get the movies to come back here because now being on this sort of side of seeing like, okay, well, we have to compromise this because this costs so much and this costs so much and the union just, you know, they just, you know,
- 17:44[SPEAKER_05]: They've really fucked us, man.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_05]: It's like it just was not.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_05]: We did not come out on top with the losses that we took by shutting down.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_05]: We will never get back.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_05]: And I still don't know what we pick it at four.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what we want.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_01]: I don't either.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_01]: I looked back on it and I felt it was all pointless.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_01]: Now, the biggest fight was obviously over AI.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and that was the biggest push of like what the rights are with the rights aren't have you toyed with it at all as far as production wise because Claim was on the show a while back and he said what are you just finished he's finished shooting the agency with Michael Fassbender over in England and he said they're using AI for lighting.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_01]: So when they show up, you know, instead of waiting for hours to light a scene, you can actually set the tone in the mood and everything else just by AI typing in what look you want that enters into the lights and it'll give you that effect on the actors.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_01]: Have you guys looked into that?
- 18:41[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, we just had our correction meeting, so I was a little late, our visual effects and sort of walking through the steps of how that's going to look and even from what we're discussing now to when we actually go into post.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_05]: There's probably going to be changes in the technology.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_05]: Like that's how quickly things are moving.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_05]: So the practical, special effects that we're using and sort of merging the visual effects is sort of a cost mitigate has been, I mean, I've never, I feel like I'm in college.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_05]: I'm learning so much, you know my, because the amount of, and then the amount of young kids are pulling in to be like, how would you approach this?
- 19:18[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I'm sure when I was doing CS on New York and we went from film to digital.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_05]: And when we went, like, it was season three or season four, and we actually shut down production on the, it was like the third episode of season four, I believe, because everyone, when we were shooting my digital, everyone looked so old, they didn't understand the filters and the light, they had to change everything.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_05]: So it was like, it was when we're checking the gate and, you know, putting the film and things.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_05]: So we're in that transition.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_05]: Now, to see this next transition of AI and how that's affecting and how it, you know, how can we cost effect upon budgets?
- 19:51[SPEAKER_05]: 12 months to 18 months to where we'll really have a real understanding of how it's going to integrate it.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_05]: I'm not afraid of it.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_05]: I think you just have to adapt to it and figure your place.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_05]: You know, I don't think we're ever going to lose the human experience.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_05]: I think yes, there will be jobs will be lost, but I think also jobs will be created.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_05]: You have to kick it angry at it because it's fucking here and you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to, you have to
- 20:14[SPEAKER_01]: I agree and I see too much pitching online about it, where it's just like, hey, this is this, we need to go, you know, go back to the old way.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry, that is going and you're not getting it back.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_05]: Now you can adapt to it.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, to like in some film and in fact, we're going to go your back yard and shoot a catch movie.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_05]: It's like, but it's not, it's not gonna happen.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_05]: We gotta move on.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_05]: So if you don't have a bone to pick though, a thing you always pissed about, you guys did not get nominated for fucking best podcast that's going to go, what the fuck?
- 20:40[SPEAKER_01]: I know, I know, but neither did Rogan and let's face it.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_01]: Like, that is the biggest show we're working for.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: Rogan, drinking for us.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: There's no fucking way they would have a concert of show on that goddamn show.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_05]: They didn't get up there and give his Ricky Jervais type speech.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_05]: You know, that would've been fucking great, man.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_02]: How many end words would you have said on stage that night?
- 21:02[SPEAKER_02]: Oh man, I guess it depends on how long they gave me.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's like cut the feed.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_05]: It made me not take it seriously though when they didn't nominate Joe.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_05]: It's like, come on.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_05]: Sam, let's get out of your way.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_05]: It's like it's like, let's just put bullshit aside and like,
- 21:17[SPEAKER_05]: You know, it's a platform for people to come and talk.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_05]: It's like, it's like, neither here nor there.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_05]: You've had conservative non-conserv, whatever, guess on there, you're just your comedians.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_05]: You know, you have a great fucking show, but it's like, same with Joe.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_05]: It's like, he's not, he's, he's come out and he's not.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_05]: I'm not one of them, you know, I'm here to talk to people.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_05]: In fact, that they did not put that I was very disappointed because when I first heard, I'm like, oh, that's so cool that they're doing that.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_05]: But,
- 21:42[SPEAKER_05]: They just didn't they didn't alert, but maybe they will not share you know that I doubt it.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_01]: I call it by the way.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_01]: So as soon as that category was announced a year ago in Ross past revolution, I said it will be any polar.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: She will win.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: You can buy off the golden gloves.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_01]: You know that as well as I do and her agent will buy that off so they can get more add higher ad rates for her show.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_01]: And you can say it's golden globe winner.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_01]: Amy Polars podcast now versus.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_01]: Everything else that was there that came to fruition.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_01]: She's only done 47 shows at the time for when we've done over 6,000 total across our network and I'm like, Uh-huh.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_01]: That's cool.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm one of the world.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's, you know, they're not doing this is like,
- 22:23[SPEAKER_02]: The same is that conversation of, uh, we need to find a Joe Rogan on the left and he at Joe Rogan is the left.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_02]: We used to be.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he didn't use to be.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_02]: He's still, he's still a liberal.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_02]: He's a liberal, right?
- 22:37[SPEAKER_02]: So they're just trying to, they're trying to, to break into, uh, a media.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_02]: that they don't really understand because all the top shows that are left-leaning are just news shows that they took the video off of and made them audio shows that's literally the only ones right it's very odd and they're trying to get involved in something that they don't understand the reason that podcast is so successful is that
- 23:06[SPEAKER_02]: It's about the personal relationship like which is parasocial to some degree but the personal relationship between the host and the audience.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_02]: Where normal people that you can reach out to and talk to, we're not fucking like Chris Cuomo doesn't do the numbers that our show does, despite having been on CNN for years, just that's just how it is.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_05]: And actor shouldn't I just like the entertainment like we should not be fucking talking about politics like just entertain And just go and give a good show and like get it when we start being divisive and this is like who cares about that stuff go Energy people to be entertained when we serve implementing things for our own personal reasons you lose them and it shows in the shows and stuff that they tried to do that people fucking tune out
- 23:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's an interesting dichotomy, too, because far fewer right-wing people tune out of things, like right-wing people watched all of the Marvel movies, despite Mark Ruffalo being an absolute piece of shit.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_02]: right politically right no one fucking cared this like he's the Hulk yeah fuck yeah let's watch this he's gonna rip some money in half and I'm gonna watch that's literally all it was but if if a if a right wing person says anything in media and then goes on to a movie there's like a fucking boycott across the street one fuck off dude yeah now it's just weird and then you see like when people are opting in but there's no
- 24:33[SPEAKER_02]: when there's no audience to virtue, signal for when people are just at their homes watching stuff what shows succeed fucking landman, yellowstone conservative shit yeah because most people are normal ends in the right yeah
- 24:49[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_05]: I got friends in the left.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_05]: I got friends in the right, but it's like you can sit in a room with all of those people.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_05]: And if a joke's funny, we're all going to laugh.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_05]: If it makes you cry, we all cry.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_05]: And it's like, that's where people are loses.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_05]: Like people want to go and just fucking escapeism and feel something.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_05]: They don't give a shit at that point.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_05]: They just want to be entertained.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_05]: And when when you start really focusing on that thing, you know, it's, it's, it's the wrong reasons to, to make, to make art to speak.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_01]: I agree, and I'd actually post a dance to your point that Mark Ruffalo video on my personal Instagram, and I go, look at this fucking jackass, right?
- 25:23[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, I don't want to hear about your fucking politics.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_01]: Now one of my buddies actually commented underneath it, I don't, I don't typically agree.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_01]: The comments was a friend of mine, and he said, well, isn't that what you do, right?
- 25:33[SPEAKER_01]: You talk about politics on a daily basis, and I go, here's the difference.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_01]: I quit acting.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_01]: ten years ago so like yeah what what we're seeing now in the podcast and all this other shit since i started doing podcast i'm getting my own opinion and everything else i don't expect if i were to go back and do a movie today that you would be able to separate what my politics are in a daily basis on these shows versus watching me play a character in a movie
- 25:58[SPEAKER_01]: I knew that I'd given that up and traded it in.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry man.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_01]: It was like the guy in field of dreams who decided to walk off the baseball field and turn into a fucking doctor after that.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_01]: You can't go back and play baseball anymore.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_01]: I made that decision for my name was Moonlight Graham you piece sure was and guess what I got the fucking hot dog out of the girls mouth.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, well, I put it in.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_02]: Not that one.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_02]: Tim and he bus filled the now.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_02]: He's in prison.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, he's out.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: That it turns out, by the way, Bob, I was right on that's what the judge goes.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_01]: Hey.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_01]: This is real fucking thing here and there's like 10 crew members who are there and they all testified for him.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_01]: They deposed him.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_02]: They deposed him.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_02]: It was like, what was the policy of touching on Saturday goes?
- 26:44[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I guess not to.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, well, where are you?
- 26:47[SPEAKER_02]: And he goes, yeah, we were fucking wrestling around and shit.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's like kids and actors and all that other stuff.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_01]: But every crew member came and testified on his behalf, which is rare.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_01]: Usually those crew members will flip in 10 seconds for a little bit of cash.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_01]: And so they let them go yesterday.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_01]: And they're going to try to do this.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_01]: Even the judge was like, man, I don't even know if there's enough for a case here yesterday.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_01]: It ended late last night when we were off the show.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_01]: But that's New Mexico.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_01]: And that's the second now story in New Mexico where they've tried to...
- 27:14[SPEAKER_01]: to go after an actor down there for whatever fucking reason.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_02]: Wait, was the first one rust.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_01]: with the alcohol.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_02]: Well, that wasn't for me, he killed somebody, so.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_01]: But AJ knows this, like, when they handed over, like, somebody supposed to check it and all the other shit, so like, it was that, if you were gonna send it, but AJ was at girl.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, you never, you should never be live rounds anywhere near if I could say.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_05]: Ever.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_02]: Do you remember AJ when I came to the set a couple years ago, they were live rounds on your set, you know, where they were?
- 27:48[SPEAKER_02]: They were in my gun.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_01]: Not an actor, but not an actor, not an actor.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_01]: That's the point, right?
- 27:55[SPEAKER_01]: So, there was, you know, I mean, tells some people on Deadline last night, and we were like, man, let's stop shooting a Mexico.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_01]: That DA is out to get people for some reason.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_01]: Once the run for governor or something.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_01]: So, I'll reserve judgment on that one before.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_02]: Well, the new Mexico politics is all much left to say anyway.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it's fucking weird.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_02]: It's been like that for a while.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_05]: The reboot of young guns is being, is being,
- 28:16[SPEAKER_02]: We say reboot is it a film or is it a series.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, what are they doing?
- 28:19[SPEAKER_02]: Great.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_05]: They're doing the film.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_05]: They're doing the film.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_05]: Friend of mine is the main producer on that email.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_05]: Who's it?
- 28:24[SPEAKER_05]: I think Lou Diamond Phillips is coming back.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_01]: LDP.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: Dude.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: He was shit.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_01]: What I just watched him at.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_01]: He's in the chair company on HBO.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_01]: Wildest comedies of all time and he's great.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_02]: He's always been I fucking love LDP do One of my favorite movies not La Bomba by the way.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_02]: I love the bomba.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_02]: No, it was a good movie But like one of my one of my favorite movies of all time and I this is cringey a shit But it's the big hit remember that
- 28:51[SPEAKER_02]: The fucking Mark Wahlberg.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_04]: Oh yeah, you liked that?
- 28:53[SPEAKER_02]: Oh yeah, I loved it.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_02]: The reason that I loved it so much was because of God, what's that Asian chick?
- 29:01[SPEAKER_02]: No, the black dude that's always talking about street jacking it dude.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_02]: Like this one guy, if you've never seen them movie before,
- 29:07[SPEAKER_02]: uh... long time if you've never seen the movie before the guy had like swirits it's uh... bokeh him uh... would buy all i love it all kinds of stuff so he had sworn off women and he only jacked off and he's just walking around looking at people right in the eyes with those like four-on-grip things squeeze them all the time is like straight jacking it's what uh...
- 29:27[SPEAKER_01]: I did a movie with him way back in the day.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_02]: I fucking loved that movie.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_01]: So, so much so in fact, I put his name in this new St. James book, the final inch.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_01]: Just because I loved that movie.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_02]: Lou Diamond fills us whole areas in that movie.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_02]: That was the fucking rock.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_05]: He actually taught me one of my very first leads I ever did, was called in a class of his own.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_05]: And I remember, so I met him and we're at the Sutton Place in Vancouver.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_05]: And we're going to head to set.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_05]: And he asked the driver to pull over.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_05]: And I'm talking to him and he goes, I'm going to teach you something AJ, I'm like, what's that he goes?
- 30:03[SPEAKER_05]: When you show up to a set, you show up with this, I'm like, okay, it's a whiskey cigar.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_05]: So I'm like, who's that for in the director goes, no.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_05]: The teamsters, he goes, you go on set, you ask who the team's your captain is, you go up your hand, a couple of miles of whiskey, some cigars, that dude will bury a body for you.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_05]: He's like, I was like, and every time I go to a show, now I'm like, thank you, thank you.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_05]: It's like LVP, it's like the movie.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_05]: What kind of whiskey?
- 30:28[SPEAKER_05]: I think it was a woodbridge, if I believe.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_05]: All right, let's get it off.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_01]: That's a good thing.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_01]: That mid-range where you need to be at, right?
- 30:35[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I won't break the bank.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_05]: I don't know what the cigars work because I, every time I try to smoke a cigar, I pute all over myself as we get it.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_01]: Proud of you.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'm looking at this young guns thing.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_01]: So young guns, 3d, dead or alive is an active development.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_01]: Ameloo Astovets is directing and reprising his role as Billy the Kid.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_01]: Alongside Lou Diamond Phillips, Christian Slater is Arkansas Dave.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_01]: He was great.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_01]: And that's filming is set in New Mexico.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_01]: She has this crust for 2026.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_01]: And it will continue the story of the famous
- 31:08[SPEAKER_01]: Regulateers.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I came from.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_01]: You know that, right?
- 31:10[SPEAKER_01]: That line in that song came from Young Guns.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_01]: Because what's his name that's the Young of the Crow here?
- 31:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, dude.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_01]: You can't be any geek off the streets.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_01]: You got to be handy with a steal.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 31:15[SPEAKER_01]: Now, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh uh, uh uh, uh uh, uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh
- 31:23[SPEAKER_02]: Does I certainly a million knows that Billy the kid died when he was 22, right?
- 31:27[SPEAKER_01]: I think he lived.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_05]: No Well, there's legend that he went down into Mexico and he did live and he got married So there I don't know that the just the story my buddy Dave Robinson's producing it He he produced the the original ones, but I don't know the full story, but I think it's him older and and then there There might be a handover
- 31:47[SPEAKER_01]: I got it it's right here the film likely explore the legend of brushy bill robberts who claims to be surviving billy the kid bridging the gap between young guns to in history and billy's death wasn't shown on screen now the legend has it that's uh... it wasn't shown on screen because pat Garrett i guess said hey uh... i can kill you or you can fucking get out of the country forever
- 32:12[SPEAKER_01]: I don't really give a shit, but you got to make a decision right now, and that he let him out the back door.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if that's true or not, I like to believe that it is, just because I love conspiracies and we're shit like that.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_01]: But the fact that they're going to redo it is excellent, and I can tell you watching LDP the other night, and the HBO show, he isn't lost it.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_01]: Amelia has to best still looking good Christian Slater still fucking rockin' it man like this could be all right What's who's gonna be the brushy bill character on the stuffy viewer I think Dan is in prime Shape right now to look like a brushy bill.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_05]: I did too Quite the quiet guy Yeah, just just grunt that's all you need is grunt And you remember that gun I said I said to picture
- 33:02[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, let's see you right now.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_02]: What happened?
- 33:04[SPEAKER_02]: No, I don't remember a gun.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_02]: You sent me a picture.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah, you know what I do actually.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, but it was like this old it was again, I call it like what is this it had like but the guy told me like it was from like it would have been like when Jesse James was around the type of gun it was and then it but that the bell had like these of swipes
- 33:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, there's a coin on it.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_02]: It looks like a dollar for a night taste, right?
- 33:31[SPEAKER_05]: I got it in, I have it, I got it framed.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_01]: OK. Yeah, do a picture.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_01]: Can you text it to Bob?
- 33:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to like see it.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_02]: uh... yeah i mean they're not great pictures um... one of them there's also a swastika on their it looks like on the on the thing yeah on the on the gun belt which doesn't really make any sense to be really yeah that's where um... yeah it was real i can't find anything i could actually probably look this up and find out where it came from because it does have a serial number stamped on the bottom of the boat all right agent you got a podcast you're used to it you know we got sponsors put the

- 34:31[SPEAKER_01]: In my opinion, there's no need to spend $1,000 on headphones.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, these guys have been with us for years.

- 42:36[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, it's bland Frank.

- 42:51[SPEAKER_02]: I think cops.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_05]: This is the one that is middle finger got shut off.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_05]: What was that one?
- 42:54[SPEAKER_01]: Pump up the volume is my favorite by Christmas later.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_01]: Oh shit, no true romance.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry, true romance is number one for me for Christmas later.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_02]: No, I like, I really enjoyed cups.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_02]: I like the idea of it.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_02]: I like the movie.
- 43:07[SPEAKER_02]: I like the fact that the main villain wore shirts with only his face and neon on the front of him.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_02]: It's hilarious.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think it's retarded.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_05]: Whoa, what was the one we're member at the end?
- 43:15[SPEAKER_05]: He flips her off and then shoots his shirt his middle finger off.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_01]: What was that one it was like shit you're looking at 90s movies now at this point I mean, I Yeah, I forget what the name of it was because there's so many great Christians later Because I think when no narrator was in it too.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_01]: I know I we just my wife and I just went down this one on a rider rabbit hole And if you have others others others if you look up her fucking career It is one of the most insane career
- 43:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like a vault like if there was a Hall of Fame for acting she would she'd be in it and it's it's her career was not Dude, they did a whole look back the other night.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_01]: I was like God damn I forgot how much cool shit.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_01]: She was in Something she did yeah shoplifting.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_01]: She's I did a movie over there.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_01]: She's a she's a strange broad
- 44:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she definitely marches to her own beats and her mom was sick.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_01]: She had some problems and you know, later documented later, some of that speaking out of it.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_05]: I actually think you never know what somebody's going to do.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 44:14[SPEAKER_01]: And when I was working with her, we had this scene together.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_01]: It was like an eight minute scene.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_01]: She blew like 17 takes in a row.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_01]: And then afterwards, she profusely apologized because we had to go back for another day.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_01]: And she goes, look, I'm going through some shit with my mom and I'm sorry.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm distracted and everything else.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_01]: Look, I don't care.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_01]: I'm getting paid for an extra day, so we're good.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_01]: And I go, if you want to blow some more takes tomorrow, I'm fine.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_01]: because it was San Francisco before like the Democrats took over.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_01]: So it was rad and I was like, all right, cool man, we can fucking stay here and party.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_05]: I got Chinese food every day.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_05]: It's great.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_05]: I was in San Francisco and I didn't know that that poop app was real.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_05]: Yep.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_05]: I was somebody show my desk.
- 44:54[SPEAKER_05]: I thought there was a joke.
- 44:54[SPEAKER_01]: That's really real.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_01]: It is really real, my friends.
- 44:59[SPEAKER_01]: I'm trying to clean it up now.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_01]: They got a new, god or mayor in there.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_01]: Excuse me.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's the hair of the Levi's fortune and, you know, rich dude, it's just like, man, I just want my fucking city back.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll see what happens.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, on the IP tip, because you're doing a lot of producing these days.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_01]: Is there something out there IP-wise that you really want to fucking do and try to get a license for?
- 45:21[SPEAKER_01]: Because the odd thing about Hollywood this year, in particular, was, in all the turmoil that's going on, it was all originals that actually crosses this year.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_01]: Center has crushed.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_01]: Marty Supreme, I don't know if you saw it, was an excellent excellent film.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_01]: It did very, very well on the box office, highest for a 24 of all time.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_01]: One battle after another was excellence.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_01]: There was a bunch of original movies that were very, very good this year.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_01]: And it was like, all right, well, maybe we don't need the IP.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_01]: But then after you brought up the young guns thing, I thought, all right, well, AJ, you've got to be licensing something.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_01]: What do you work?
- 45:54[SPEAKER_05]: There's a couple of stories.
- 45:56[SPEAKER_05]: growing up as an Irish like a I wish you double in Ireland that there's Irish legends that I've I've heard about and stuff like kind of like the brave hearts of Ireland that I would love to get the rights to there's some there's some that I've gone after there's some there's some books that take place in Ireland in the 80s which is a really crazy time in Ireland with the IRA and
- 46:19[SPEAKER_05]: You know, like late 70s and today's like just so there's stuff in there is some really amazing books I at one of my dreams is to get a project like that based on two story and go back to Ireland and and for me Said that's that's the goal for this year.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_05]: Are you Irish and real life?
- 46:34[SPEAKER_05]: No, I was born in Dublin.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_05]: Oh shit.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_05]: I didn't know that
- 46:36[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I was just born outside of that one there.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_01]: Dude, I've always wanted a butt-fuck bono.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_01]: So that's, we're pretty close.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's a beautiful day.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it would be a bono top.
- 46:46[SPEAKER_01]: That would be a beautiful day.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_01]: Would you be, would you be a power bono?
- 46:50[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no, no.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_01]: Are you kidding me?
- 46:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's way smaller than me.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_01]: Would you sweat on as glasses?
- 46:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, are the whole thing.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_01]: And he wears those fucking glasses everywhere.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_01]: You've seen him at Hollywood parties and shit, like, that motherfucker wore those glasses.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_01]: I never saw him without him ever at all the shit.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_01]: And he went to all the shit, by the way, which I could also never figure out, and I always thought he was harboring money or working for the government or something like, I'm not kidding.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_01]: We're always like, are you a fucking secret agent?
- 47:18[SPEAKER_01]: Why are you with every fucking thing?
- 47:19[SPEAKER_05]: Like he's just his presence on stage is just a story how they made like the edge put a sign up on in in schools And do you want to start a band and like they like all saw the sign like all right cool like what are the chances of that?
- 47:32[SPEAKER_02]: Hmm.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah
- 47:33[SPEAKER_02]: That's kind of what happened when the Talik of two they were cruising around.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_02]: I think San Francisco first and they moved down to LA and just put an ad in the paper.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get through it.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_02]: Let's get through it.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_02]: Star of the sea would be a good chance.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_02]: You ever read that book?
- 47:44[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_05]: That's an amazing book.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_02]: It's like a, it's a famine ship sailing from Ireland to America in the middle 19th centuries, like 1850-ish.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_05]: Have you guys been to Ireland before?
- 47:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, I have not, actually, it's pretty cool.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_05]: Did you go to where they showed where the ship went out?
- 48:01[SPEAKER_05]: Did you go to that?
- 48:02[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, I have it.
- 48:03[SPEAKER_02]: I haven't spent nearly enough time there enough.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_05]: But when you see this, when you get a scope of the size of the boat that they came over on, it's fucking insanity is what they went through.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_05]: And then just even like landing and not knowing, it wasn't like they were greeted with like, you know, hey, welcome.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_05]: It was, it was, it was rough thing.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, I've ganked New York was a great sort of interpretation of that, but I think there's just so much more story to be told there.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_05]: Again, I'm fascinated with the like the 70s and 80s where there's no cell phones, there's nothing.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_05]: At the IRA, at that time, was the most powerful terrorist group in the world.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_05]: There are moving more arms through Europe than any other terrorist group.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_05]: And they were just like it was so well-ordered.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_05]: As you think, this tiny little island, this beautiful island, to be that powerful.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_05]: And that's strategic and be able to make these hits and they were seeking no one knew who's in the IRA.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_05]: It's just, I guess these are too fast in any world to move forward.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_02]: And they've been going on for a long time by then.
- 48:55[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 48:57[SPEAKER_02]: Like the fiends and all that stuff.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, this star of the sea is like during the great potato famine, the great famine, whatever the fuck they call over there.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_02]: there's a serial killer on the ship and everybody's already coming from like starving Ireland trying to get to America and they're on a big a like a giant ship trying to get over there and
- 49:19[SPEAKER_02]: It's the way the book, it would be such a good movie, I think.
- 49:23[SPEAKER_02]: It's one of those ones where you know who the killer is really early on.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_02]: Kind of like the fall, have you seen the fall?
- 49:28[SPEAKER_02]: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_02]: It's kind of like that.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_02]: Like you know, most immediately who the killer is, and it's just fucking all these historical references and drama through like close calls and all this stuff.
- 49:40[SPEAKER_02]: It'd be, I mean, it's to be honest.
- 49:42[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think it would be super hard to develop that into a movie.
- 49:45[SPEAKER_01]: And the cinematography, just for the landscape of Ireland alone, is so beautiful that if you had that as a backdrop.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, automatically win.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that would be great.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, that would be great.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_05]: All the Chris Moore is like, like, that's one of the most, like, emotionally.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_05]: It's a spiritual experience that you see to go some more and just see that.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_05]: Or like the giant's cause way up in the north is like, it's early.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_05]: It's just amazing.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_05]: When I was there a couple of years ago,
- 50:08[SPEAKER_05]: with my wife and we, I was taking it up and like every other mile you see like this sort of dilapidated castle and she was just like, when we first got that she's like, oh look at castle, look at castle by like, you know, hour four she was like, and other castle.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_05]: It's another castle.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_05]: It's a great, it's a great country though.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_01]: Are you an adverse at all in going back into a television drama, I'm looking at the ratings for Best Medicine that just came out on Fox with Josh Charles, and it was the highest in three years, 10.8 million viewers.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_01]: Is that something you would entertain again going back to a series because you did two massive ones back to back that?
- 50:50[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, some people were just so taxed after that that look like I can't do it anymore.
- 50:54[SPEAKER_01]: I can't be away from that family that much.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_01]: Where are you at now life wise?
- 50:58[SPEAKER_01]: Would you do this?
- 50:59[SPEAKER_05]: So, good good.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_05]: Like I received yes alone.
- 51:01[SPEAKER_05]: I've done 17 seasons of television just with CBS and they've been very, very good to me.
- 51:08[SPEAKER_05]: For me, the biggest thing is I love any dad more than anything.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_05]: Time away from my kids and missing a football game war.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_05]: You know, missing a dance or whatever it is, I have to have be able to look at them and tell them that it was worth it and I'm working with good people and if I can't say that to them, I don't want to do it.
- 51:30[SPEAKER_05]: You know, I want to, I want to go and, and I'll just feel what's ever in my heart and show them if you go out for what you love and you dream, but if you're working with assholes or it's just, it's, it's not, you're not there for the right reasons.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_05]: It's, it's, it's not worth it.
- 51:43[SPEAKER_05]: I'd rather, you know, work on different businesses and, and whatnot than be off for, you know, and that you look, the money is great and I've been very lucky and very blessed, but, you know, when it comes down to it's like missing things with my kids is, is not worth it unless it's really fucking worth it.
- 52:00[SPEAKER_01]: 100% agree and it just changes with age and Bobby's estimate so it's time if ever we're go back and and do stuff but offers over the years is just no one I don't want to leave this podcast and everything we've built here with the media company is to be a slap in the face of the audience too it would have to be so unbelievably special to leave my kids and my wife at this point that's yeah
- 52:22[SPEAKER_01]: I can look them in the eyes and say, all right, dad is leaving for three months to go do this fucking thing, and it's worth it.
- 52:29[SPEAKER_01]: You know, to play in a one-off arena-leak football game who cares, they can all come, they can all have fun, we can laugh about it, and great.
- 52:35[SPEAKER_01]: I got to go through a couple of practices that's it.
- 52:37[SPEAKER_01]: But to do a movie or a TV show, especially a drama like that,
- 52:41[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, a one hour drama is what nine months of your life, taxing a shit, 14 hours a day, your exhausted, you pretty much just eat, sleep, and then go see the same people work again over and over again.
- 52:53[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I would do it in a heartbeat if it was the right people right project.
- 52:57[SPEAKER_05]: And like I said, I could, I could tell my kids, this is this is gonna move the needle for me in so many ways, and you guys will be proud of it.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_05]: But if he doesn't check that box first at the gates, it's not there.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_05]: Speaking of your wife, Ben, what a great ad she's been on thing.
- 53:09[SPEAKER_05]: Like my wife watches your thing and she just laughs her balls off Ben.
- 53:13[SPEAKER_05]: You finally brought some class to the show.
- 53:15[SPEAKER_01]: Crime corner.
- 53:15[SPEAKER_05]: It's on your own corner.
- 53:16[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 53:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's great.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's great.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's funny, man, that shows starting to take off.
- 53:22[SPEAKER_01]: And it's really good.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_01]: I love it, and I'm a fan of it.
- 53:24[SPEAKER_01]: And then she was like, hey, will you come and do it?
- 53:27[SPEAKER_01]: And I actually kind of felt nervous doing it.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, because I watch it.
- 53:32[SPEAKER_01]: Usually when I'm up late working, you know, kind of kiss, I know, it's great.
- 53:36[SPEAKER_01]: And she's crushing it in every single woman I feel like is watching that.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_01]: She always gets stopped in the neighborhood and everything else.
- 53:42[SPEAKER_01]: But I did the OJ Simpson episode with her.
- 53:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and Byron does a great job with that back there, so cheers to you Byron, but thank you all.
- 53:51[SPEAKER_01]: I'll let her know that they're actually recording it tonight, so she'll be in in a little bit But is there something another movie-wise out there that you're like, okay, this is coming up.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'd like to be a part of it a lot of people are lobbying for Batman right now to try to do that Is there a Marvel character that you we consider doing do you care about doing shit like that anymore like
- 54:14[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I do work work work is fucking yeah if I had an opportunity to go do one of those fucking any crazy me like first of all that checks the box big with my kids if I did anything in his spending oh fuck your rights yeah, I mean there is a late text who I wear at home with my wife in a ball gag, but that's a different
- 54:33[SPEAKER_00]: That movie ain't coming out theaters, dude, that's it.
- 54:36[SPEAKER_00]: That's it.
- 54:36[SPEAKER_05]: Here for though.
- 54:37[SPEAKER_05]: We're getting into fear.
- 54:39[SPEAKER_05]: And there's a superhero call ball gag.
- 54:42[SPEAKER_05]: I think I would crash it.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_02]: I think there's a gap right now.
- 54:49[SPEAKER_02]: for any kind of military slash that content.
- 54:52[SPEAKER_02]: We've been getting hit up by people for unscripted content, for yard to military stuff like telling stories and whatnot.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_02]: But it's not the same as a dramatized series.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 55:03[SPEAKER_02]: Like the one that Dennis Leary's doing is really funny.
- 55:05[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if you've seen it.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_02]: But it's not gun fighting.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 55:11[SPEAKER_02]: It's like just the the military part of it is a coincidence.
- 55:15[SPEAKER_02]: He's it's just Dennis Larry being funny, which is like you can put him in any kind of situation where he's in a leadership position or where it's a dude thing and Dennis Larry's always gonna be funny because I mean just watch rescue me, you know what I mean?
- 55:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but
- 55:28[SPEAKER_02]: there's no gunfighter show out there right now.
- 55:31[SPEAKER_02]: There's a bunch of weird like FBI this and whatever the night agent is pretty good if you're into the same sure.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_01]: But I love this.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_02]: But it's more centered around like the intelligence community not direct action military people, which is interesting.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_05]: I mean we lucked out man.
- 55:46[SPEAKER_05]: I mean to be a part of seal team.
- 55:49[SPEAKER_05]: You don't know getting into going to do a show or doing a pilot or whatever.
- 55:52[SPEAKER_05]: Actually we shot the pilot here
- 55:58[SPEAKER_05]: 10 days into it and they were to reach you the entire thing, but you don't know what you're going to get into it to be a part of a military drama that did what we did and the guys that we got to work with and just are you know.
- 56:13[SPEAKER_05]: that the action that we created, the sequences that we did for the budget that we did on a television show, traveled all over the fucking world, birds and fucking blackhawks with, and there was little to no CGI, like it's now more prevalent towards the end of the season, six, seven eight, we kind of
- 56:33[SPEAKER_05]: But at the beginning, it was a lot more practical.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, it really boils if I can fantastic and a such a blessing be a part of it.
- 56:40[SPEAKER_05]: And in that sense too, like that career rise opened up so many doors for me, that sort of action space which you've always wanted to plan like the John McLean sort of characters and stuff.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_05]: But like it just,
- 56:49[SPEAKER_05]: looking back man.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_05]: What a fucking blessing that was.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_05]: It's really, as, as hard as it was sometimes, which is me just like finding a reason to claim about it.
- 56:58[SPEAKER_05]: And I think it really wasn't.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_05]: It was the best fucking job of my life.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_05]: And that'll be all that will always be a hard one to ever top it for it ever will.
- 57:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I guess lie at S has another season coming out this year.
- 57:08[SPEAKER_05]: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
- 57:30[SPEAKER_05]: And then why Marshall is coming out?
- 57:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, why Marshall's good.
- 57:33[SPEAKER_02]: So that's Casey Dutton.
- 57:36[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,
- 57:57[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
- 58:12[SPEAKER_02]: terminal list is more about Chris Pratt.
- 58:15[SPEAKER_02]: I guess Dark Wolf is a get that's back to the intelligence community and it's still like we there's good gunfights in it and there's always good gunfights with any of Chris Pratt's characters these days he does like 18 movies a year or two.
- 58:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I was like there's there is no
- 58:29[SPEAKER_02]: CL team right now you would usually kind of bounces back and forth between the special operation community, so it's about time for a Delta Force show again Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
- 58:47[SPEAKER_01]: Why aren't you doing more veteran military shit?
- 58:51[SPEAKER_01]: I mean the numbers are all there across the board loan survivor I mean Jesus Christ look at American sniper American sniper people forget I made $380 million like 100 So I just don't understand it whenever I would pitch this shit It'd be like ah, it's just to you know to right when to red stay those flyover states What they're always saying all these pitch meanings, but the crazy thing is
- 59:13[SPEAKER_05]: So it's not parsing show.
- 59:16[SPEAKER_05]: It's not like I agree, you know, it's like that's that's the part that is like where the you're it's never about the politics The commander chief.
- 59:22[SPEAKER_05]: It gives a telling what to do and they say yes, they go do the fucking job And there has nothing to do is about the mission and and then how they get there
- 59:28[SPEAKER_05]: You know, I think where our show really succeeded was we really got into it wasn't just about the war that they were going through is more what what happened when they went home to the home life and it which gave more value and raised the stakes I believe it characterized to when they went on the mission to what was at risk and then how the what their marriages fell apart and fucking other shit that they went through you know one of my favorite episodes is when we really went into the VA and and you saw how broken that fucking system was and what
- 59:55[SPEAKER_05]: This character swan he had to go through and then he ended up committing suicide in the in the in the And the parking lot and that was actually based on a real story and the guy of a team guy and his dad came down on set For into the writer's room and talk about it and then he was on set for the whole filming of it So just gave it real revelants, but like just to get to give that a platform and and speak on that And I never understood even like how hard it was for these guys like what getting your 100%
- 1:00:22[SPEAKER_05]: like that I was like what like you don't have a hundred percent like it and if they didn't they teach you in in in in in the arm and not in the military and I only know this by talking to the guys is like never to complain or bitch about anything so some of these injuries these guys get they didn't document so when they get back they it's not documented so they're not getting the right fucking treatment so I get there it's such a backwards thing we're so good at going to war but we're fucking curable of getting these guys out of it.
- 1:00:48[SPEAKER_05]: And it drives me bananas with what these guys had to go to.
- 1:00:52[SPEAKER_05]: And if it wasn't for a fuel team, and guys like Gary Smith Foundation and understanding what the fight that these guys are up against, man, it's mind blowing.
- 1:01:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I'll get to Gary Sinese in a second in regards to your podcast, which I want to talk about.
- 1:01:08[SPEAKER_01]: There's some breaking news here.
- 1:01:09[SPEAKER_01]: So Netflix just bots.
- 1:01:11[SPEAKER_01]: Another eight video podcast shows bringing their number to 50.
- 1:01:16[SPEAKER_01]: So they're actually airing 50 different podcasts on Netflix right now.
- 1:01:21[SPEAKER_01]: You recently got into the podcast space and you were here doing two fake seals AJ for you.
- 1:01:31[SPEAKER_01]: One of the the best guests you ever had on your show was Gary Sinese And thank you.
- 1:01:38[SPEAKER_01]: I love that episode, man, and I think you're very very good at podcasting How are you enjoying it?
- 1:01:44[SPEAKER_01]: The production quality looks amazing and is that something you're trying to push to potentially get a Netflix to buy?
- 1:01:50[SPEAKER_01]: someday
- 1:01:51[SPEAKER_05]: Well, can I just tell you, that actually means a lot coming for you, Russ, and I'll push this side because I, you know, I really look up to you guys in the space and both you guys have been very helpful with guidance and different ideas and thoughts, I'll bounce on, you know, text it down.
- 1:02:05[SPEAKER_05]: What do you think of this for much so it's such a unknown.
- 1:02:08[SPEAKER_05]: And I think when I went out of my own, wasn't going to do it at first and then I was nervous.
- 1:02:14[SPEAKER_05]: I didn't know,
- 1:02:15[SPEAKER_05]: I didn't know what I was going to do.
- 1:02:17[SPEAKER_05]: I didn't know what I was going to talk about.
- 1:02:18[SPEAKER_05]: Or did I know of anybody's gave a fucking shit of what I had to say?
- 1:02:21[SPEAKER_05]: So I was wanted to sort of sort of first season of it.
- 1:02:26[SPEAKER_05]: Really sort of asked myself, I'm going to give us a go.
- 1:02:29[SPEAKER_05]: And if I, if I don't like it, I'll walk away.
- 1:02:31[SPEAKER_05]: But I got to tell you, man, I fucking fell in love with it.
- 1:02:34[SPEAKER_05]: I absolutely love doing it.
- 1:02:37[SPEAKER_05]: It's a shit ton of work.
- 1:02:38[SPEAKER_05]: and it's not, it's not fucking cheap, and it's, and I didn't really want to go out the brands or anything like that, or advertise it until I knew what the fucking show was, because I didn't know what it was.
- 1:02:49[SPEAKER_05]: I had no clue.
- 1:02:50[SPEAKER_05]: And then I just kind of, you know, from watching, guys like yourself and some some other guys, it's like, it's not about, it's just one interview that people that you think are interesting.
- 1:02:59[SPEAKER_05]: And then,
- 1:03:00[SPEAKER_05]: Let them talk and just like ask the questions like you know what you guys have done so well for for so many years and and I honestly I just Sometimes like we do like a that the show's got longer and longer and longer and I would I would emotionally get choked up doing some stuff in real life like it was like But I just forgot that you know I was recording something and I really loved it and I mean honestly means the world and so the show where when I come where I start recording again and
- 1:03:27[SPEAKER_05]: In February, and it's just going to be AJ Buckley show.
- 1:03:31[SPEAKER_05]: They're going to do more real fake seal.
- 1:03:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:03:34[SPEAKER_05]: I'm putting that.
- 1:03:34[SPEAKER_05]: So just be AJ Buckley show and that's it.
- 1:03:37[SPEAKER_05]: But yeah, thank you, man.
- 1:03:39[SPEAKER_05]: I really appreciate that.
- 1:03:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I love that interview with Gary Sinese because you know, and Dan and I's opinion, we've chatted about this in the past on our show.
- 1:03:48[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know that there's been another celebrity in the history of Hollywood who was done more for
- 1:03:53[SPEAKER_01]: Veterans and military families in Gary, Sinis.
- 1:03:56[SPEAKER_02]: No, that's not an opinion, that's a, that's objectively true.
- 1:03:59[SPEAKER_05]: He's raised a $196 million.
- 1:04:02[SPEAKER_02]: He's a fast pop hope.
- 1:04:04[SPEAKER_05]: He just passed out really?
- 1:04:05[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, just passed out, hope.
- 1:04:07[SPEAKER_05]: And one of the craziest things, most, the amazing things ever, you know, I went down to the snowball express where he brings
- 1:04:15[SPEAKER_05]: It's two weeks and he brings families from first responders that have lost someone the first week and I think it's like a thousand kids right and then same with the next week and these kids have become in every single year and he shuts down half of Disneyland at night time.
- 1:04:34[SPEAKER_05]: And they get, and it's all taken care of.
- 1:04:36[SPEAKER_05]: And these kids have all become friends over the years.
- 1:04:40[SPEAKER_05]: These wives, you know, ghost our wives, and people, they have all bonded in some sort of way.
- 1:04:45[SPEAKER_05]: This community is so much bigger than anything every day that when we went to, I was in Nashville for the first annual solitude or heroes.
- 1:04:56[SPEAKER_05]: It was something I've never seen before.
- 1:04:59[SPEAKER_05]: One, because Gary had lost a son last year or so, what two years ago, to spinal cancer.
- 1:05:05[SPEAKER_05]: And to see the community that he's been there for, just pour into him, it did it.
- 1:05:11[SPEAKER_05]: It gets me choked up thinking about it.
- 1:05:12[SPEAKER_05]: It's the guy's the most selfless person I've ever seen.
- 1:05:17[SPEAKER_05]: And he,
- 1:05:18[SPEAKER_05]: Just can't and his motto is he's like just when you think you've done enough we can always do a little bit more and he means it and he just takes such like so when we were there for the salute the heroes he had like four days planned.
- 1:05:34[SPEAKER_05]: And he wouldn't tell anybody what was going on.
- 1:05:36[SPEAKER_05]: He said, just have to be on the bus.
- 1:05:38[SPEAKER_05]: Because he loved, he loves giving surprises.
- 1:05:40[SPEAKER_05]: So the whole day just folds at prizes.
- 1:05:42[SPEAKER_05]: It's all surprises.
- 1:05:43[SPEAKER_05]: And then different country music are showed up.
- 1:05:45[SPEAKER_05]: And then we're like a barbecue.
- 1:05:46[SPEAKER_05]: And then we're doing like adaptive line dancing for the guys that have lost their legs or whatever.
- 1:05:50[SPEAKER_05]: Like it just like nonstop.
- 1:05:52[SPEAKER_05]: It was so freaking fun.
- 1:05:54[SPEAKER_05]: And you look over Gary and he will spend
- 1:05:58[SPEAKER_05]: 30 minutes 40 minutes with someone just sitting there and everything that that person is saying he will remember he'll go out of their way he won't forget it's not a show it's not I'm just showing up for pictures this guy goes out of his way and it's what he's done is unbelievable man he sets the bar for way above if there's a goal standard of foundations and how to do it right it's in the garrison he's foundation
- 1:06:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and with him between him and Denzel Washington, what I love about those guys in particular is, and ever talk about it, they just do it, and then you'll hear about it later from some story or some picture online that end up on Instagram and they're like, dude, Karis Denise did this amazing thing, and whatever, and it was like, he never talks about it.
- 1:06:40[SPEAKER_01]: That's a part of his life.
- 1:06:42[SPEAKER_05]: I'm ever being on set, and I remember he, like,
- 1:06:44[SPEAKER_05]: road it's a really big check for somebody this before they start to get to the houses really big check to this this one guy who had lost his arms and there was no cameras there there wasn't one camera there just between him and the guy
- 1:07:00[SPEAKER_05]: And I was like, and I remember thinking, I'm like, that means a bad mother fucker, like it was not about that was about him helping that.
- 1:07:07[SPEAKER_05]: And then because he had this such response to the Gary Sinese or to the Lieutenant Dan, that he was like, oh, wow, this is my, they're really connecting to this.
- 1:07:16[SPEAKER_05]: This story, you know, I, there's this one funny thing, I remember this one guy was telling me he was like, he got injured and he was flown to Germany and he, he lost, I think his foot or something like that.
- 1:07:29[SPEAKER_05]: He was all in the lot and he's all wiped out.
- 1:07:31[SPEAKER_05]: He's like, dude, I have him so high.
- 1:07:33[SPEAKER_05]: I hope my eyes fucking look at dancing in my bed.
- 1:07:36[SPEAKER_05]: I'm like, what a crazy fucking thing and then he's like, I'm here.
- 1:07:40[SPEAKER_05]: He's like, what the fuck are you doing?
- 1:07:43[SPEAKER_05]: He's like, yeah, I am here.
- 1:07:44[SPEAKER_05]: It's like, but he's just a great dude, man.
- 1:07:47[SPEAKER_05]: And there's no, there's no slowing that man down here.
- 1:07:50[SPEAKER_05]: So you get such energy from the community that he's built.
- 1:07:55[SPEAKER_05]: And what's cool about Gary too, he'll partner up with these smaller foundations to give them a platform.
- 1:07:59[SPEAKER_05]: You know, he's always been like, we can't do this alone.
- 1:08:03[SPEAKER_05]: He's like, so there's charities out there that need, they're doing something good, like Gary Sinese will champion you.
- 1:08:08[SPEAKER_05]: He will help you get a platform and he'll teach you the ways to do it.
- 1:08:12[SPEAKER_05]: You know, they do it with such class and with such reverence.
- 1:08:15[SPEAKER_05]: And there's a real heartbeat to his foundation.
- 1:08:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's one of the greatest human beings to ever live.
- 1:08:22[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, I don't think there's enough accolades you could give that guy.
- 1:08:26[SPEAKER_02]: No, but he wouldn't care.
- 1:08:27[SPEAKER_02]: Now at the act notes, I mean, there's this old quote from Meditations, Marcus Aurelius, and it says, waste no more time arguing about what a good man is.
- 1:08:37[SPEAKER_02]: Just be one.
- 1:08:39[SPEAKER_02]: It's right.
- 1:08:41[SPEAKER_02]: And he lives that life.
- 1:08:42[SPEAKER_02]: He's, yeah.
- 1:08:43[SPEAKER_02]: Sinese, whether he actually served in the military, and now this is true of a lot of people, embodies that like, still a warrior tradition.
- 1:08:51[SPEAKER_02]: I wrote a piece on Substeck about it today, actually.
- 1:08:54[SPEAKER_02]: And that's what it's all about, people, and a realist is in that as well.
- 1:09:00[SPEAKER_02]: He's featured in that because of the way that he conducted himself as the Emperor Rome.
- 1:09:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's like you need people like that.
- 1:09:07[SPEAKER_02]: They don't have to serve in the military or fire or police or anything like that.
- 1:09:11[SPEAKER_02]: You need dudes, you know what I mean.
- 1:09:13[SPEAKER_02]: Civilizations operate on dudes.
- 1:09:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, I sure do.
- 1:09:17[SPEAKER_01]: Now last time you went to show, I didn't get to ask you about this movie because it wasn't out yet.
- 1:09:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's out now.
- 1:09:22[SPEAKER_01]: Hunting season with Mel Gibson.
- 1:09:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:09:25[SPEAKER_01]: What was it like working with Mel Gibson?
- 1:09:27[SPEAKER_01]: I got some meadows really fun a year ago He's funny.
- 1:09:31[SPEAKER_01]: He's we we I met him a long time ago before the ex with the same agent on that shit, but like he's always been
- 1:09:37[SPEAKER_01]: Funny super eccentric and weird.
- 1:09:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, what's he like on a daily basis on set?
- 1:09:43[SPEAKER_05]: So, when I had first moved to Hollywood, I was like 1718, and brave-hearted, basically just come out and being an Irishman, and some of my cousins had horses and stuff and so I went, and I knew the story, I heard of, you know, William Wall story long before that my family crashed when I sort of did the lineage of it, the story of it,
- 1:10:06[SPEAKER_05]: It's traced it back to our family fighting with Serub at the Bruce, so I was very connected to that story, but I snuck in the theater like 10 fucking times, and just to go and watch this movie.
- 1:10:18[SPEAKER_05]: And when I did my very first scene with them, the guy has amazing blue flies, like just you get lost.
- 1:10:24[SPEAKER_00]: I know.
- 1:10:25[SPEAKER_05]: But there was icy blue, and he looks like he's got that great fox thing going on right now.
- 1:10:30[SPEAKER_05]: And I kept thinking, well, as I was doing, I'm doing see with William Wallace, I kept forgetting my lines.
- 1:10:37[SPEAKER_05]: And I just always says I keep thinking you're William Wallace.
- 1:10:40[SPEAKER_05]: And he was like, yeah, it was all the time.
- 1:10:41[SPEAKER_05]: And he gave me a hug and he was like, oh, he was like, he was just great.
- 1:10:45[SPEAKER_05]: And I nerded out, I was like, tell me about this, pop up though, and how did you do this?
- 1:10:50[SPEAKER_05]: And then I asked him, I'm like, when you're doing passion to the Christ, was it true that Kavizo got struck by lightning when he said, why are you forsaken me?
- 1:10:57[SPEAKER_05]: He goes 100% true.
- 1:10:58[SPEAKER_05]: He got struck by light.
- 1:10:59[SPEAKER_05]: Really?
- 1:11:00[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 1:11:00[SPEAKER_01]: I've never heard that story confirmed until this year.
- 1:11:02[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 1:11:03[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 1:11:03[SPEAKER_05]: 100% true.
- 1:11:04[SPEAKER_05]: He said the fucking he's up on the fucking end.
- 1:11:08[SPEAKER_05]: Jim Kovies were fused to come down.
- 1:11:10[SPEAKER_05]: He was up there for hours and fucking would not come down.
- 1:11:14[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, just and even in the in the whipping scene, one time he got action fucking really cracked and he didn't stop like it was a, you know, but just it like what the movies that guys just made like everyone's like, oh, Mel Gibson, I'm like, you say whatever you want.
- 1:11:29[SPEAKER_05]: He's one of the greatest filmmakers of all fucking time ever movies with languages that don't exist anymore that that make hundreds of millions of dollars.
- 1:11:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's yeah.
- 1:11:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's incredible.
- 1:11:38[SPEAKER_05]: And then he's there.
- 1:11:39[SPEAKER_05]: He's in Malta, wherever right now, starting the final one, which is, this is going to be fucking epic.
- 1:11:46[SPEAKER_05]: But yeah, what are just the, he's a fucking brilliant mind man.
- 1:11:48[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, it's just, it's just, I, that was I, they always say don't meet your heroes, like, as long as a little nervous, but dude, fucking stud.
- 1:11:57[SPEAKER_05]: Absolute stud.
- 1:11:59[SPEAKER_05]: Really good, dude.
- 1:12:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and to your point, he's shooting, uh, passion of Christ, which is going to be broken up in a two parts.
- 1:12:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't know if you've heard that over in Italy, so that already started shooting, uh, they did have to replace the cast due to age.
- 1:12:12[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, so once they ran the numbers on the budget, it said, hey, we can't de-age Jim Kavizlo enough to be Jesus again.
- 1:12:17[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, so they did recast pretty much everybody in that.
- 1:12:21[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm looking forward to it, and the stories that are coming out of it already are already fucking nuts.
- 1:12:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, let's go.
- 1:12:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'm ants about it.
- 1:12:30[SPEAKER_01]: AJ, I appreciate you being here today.
- 1:12:32[SPEAKER_01]: Now as the point of show we get to the drinking bro the week, which is someone who has inspired you or helps you become the person you are today, obviously you've been on the show before, is there somebody new in your life that has had a big influence on you as you're kind of transitioning and producing, who is that guy for you or Cal?
- 1:12:51[SPEAKER_05]: Um, that's a good fucking question.
- 1:12:53[SPEAKER_05]: You know,
- 1:12:57[SPEAKER_05]: I would have to say, you know, I've really gotten back into my faith over the last year to bit.
- 1:13:03[SPEAKER_05]: I really have, and it's been awesome for me.
- 1:13:06[SPEAKER_05]: So I would say my church has been something that I've been very grateful for.
- 1:13:12[SPEAKER_05]: It's something that I walked away from when my dad passed away.
- 1:13:15[SPEAKER_05]: I was just angry at the world, and I just lost all sort of faith.
- 1:13:19[SPEAKER_05]: And I found this great church in, uh, uh,
- 1:13:24[SPEAKER_05]: South Carolina Seacost and just going somewhere and, you know, hearing something and just being grounded and something and something that I never thought I would be back into again, but man, it doesn't, you know, there's a book that was written so many fucking years, thousands of years ago and there's just so many hidden messages in it and, you know, it's just,
- 1:13:44[SPEAKER_05]: I'm just a big believer now, whatever, just whatever you go and just be anchored in something, whatever you believe in, just be anchored in some type of faith, like the higher power of some sort.
- 1:13:55[SPEAKER_05]: It's good for you.
- 1:13:55[SPEAKER_05]: It's good for the soul.
- 1:13:56[SPEAKER_05]: And it's like, I'm a flawed man.
- 1:13:58[SPEAKER_05]: I'm a fucking flawed man.
- 1:13:59[SPEAKER_05]: But I feel like when I lean into that and explore that, I feel like I'm
- 1:14:05[SPEAKER_05]: I'm improving myself so I would say that I did this church and the group of people that are pushing me to be better I think is great and I think it's great for my family and all around so yeah What would drove you into it what drove you and to getting back in a church and faith?
- 1:14:22[SPEAKER_05]: You know, it was my neighbor.
- 1:14:24[SPEAKER_05]: He was like, he just was like, you know, church like that.
- 1:14:27[SPEAKER_05]: I told him the story.
- 1:14:27[SPEAKER_05]: I was like, I'm just my dad died and my dad was my best friend in the fucking world.
- 1:14:32[SPEAKER_05]: He was we were so close.
- 1:14:34[SPEAKER_05]: And when he was taken, I just gave up.
- 1:14:36[SPEAKER_05]: I was like, fuck this shit.
- 1:14:38[SPEAKER_05]: Like, this is bullshit.
- 1:14:39[SPEAKER_05]: Like, why would you take a guy like that?
- 1:14:41[SPEAKER_05]: And I just got numb and, and
- 1:14:44[SPEAKER_05]: You know, I got lost my way of being a heavy more heavy than drinking and just was just I just angry I just had this this chip of my shoulder and and then I just sort of realized I was like did I die that day too like what like what happened and then it just sort of when I went there I went there truthfully when.
- 1:15:00[SPEAKER_05]: My neighbor was like Christmas mass a year ago and he was like I was leaving to do a movie I said I'll be back on the 23rd he's like I'll give you a call So he called me said you want to go to church tomorrow with us and I was I walked in the room my life I'm like hey neighbor's asked us to go to church and and she loved when he said you want to go and I'm like
- 1:15:20[SPEAKER_05]: But I went in there totally doubting anything and they did this thing where they lit all these candles and the entire church was lit and they were saying this and did I just got emotional I don't know what it was but it's I'm still trying to understand it I'm still trying to figure I've got this Bible app but it's it's fucking complicated but whatever it is it like it's just my little
- 1:15:40[SPEAKER_05]: Fucking thing that I'm really enjoying in my life right now.
- 1:15:42[SPEAKER_05]: So it's like it's I'm still I'm figure it out I don't follow every figure it out, but I'm really enjoying whatever this is and I can't quite explain it But it feels right and I love seeing my kids go to it and understanding it and and it's just a really cool church It's not like beat you over the head with this fire and rims don't like it's just a very like
- 1:16:01[SPEAKER_05]: Anybody, anybody's welcome.
- 1:16:02[SPEAKER_05]: Again, just the Bible, which I'd never read before, and there's this app, thank God, because it's the words to small and dyslexic.
- 1:16:10[SPEAKER_05]: It just explains it.
- 1:16:11[SPEAKER_05]: And there's just fucking hidden gems in there.
- 1:16:13[SPEAKER_05]: I'm like, it's just great messaging.
- 1:16:15[SPEAKER_05]: And I was like, man, this is cool.
- 1:16:16[SPEAKER_05]: So for me, that's sort of my journey right now.
- 1:16:19[SPEAKER_05]: And I really, I really dig it.
- 1:16:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and the reason I ask is, Dan and I've been chatting about this for the last, let's call it year and a half,
- 1:16:29[SPEAKER_01]: The younger generation is starting to gravitate more towards religion, whereas that was going away for a long time.
- 1:16:37[SPEAKER_01]: And we were trying to figure it out on a show going back and forth about it.
- 1:16:41[SPEAKER_01]: And I just think it's more about community, now more than ever.
- 1:16:46[SPEAKER_01]: And then more about like-minded individuals who believe in the same thing.
- 1:16:50[SPEAKER_01]: And obviously with the Bible teaches you and everything in it is great for everyone.
- 1:16:57[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's great life lessons carry around with you, so I understand it, but more and more, I'm hearing that from a lot more people than I used to it.
- 1:17:03[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you should be, you know, it's something that connects us to who we are in the West, right?
- 1:17:06[SPEAKER_02]: So, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are, we are
- 1:17:21[SPEAKER_02]: We are the product of 3,000 years of Western civilization.
- 1:17:25[SPEAKER_02]: And there's a reason why America is the best country in the world.
- 1:17:29[SPEAKER_02]: And I mean that from like an American exceptionalism, Ra Ra standpoint, there's a literal reason for it.
- 1:17:38[SPEAKER_02]: And the reason is that we have tried and aired.
- 1:17:42[SPEAKER_02]: We have discovered and renewed and we've kept and jettisoned, you know, the way that you're meant to be and that we designed a system that's self-correcting and it's the meaning is inherited, ultimately.
- 1:17:57[SPEAKER_02]: It isn't just about the tenants of the religion itself, despite the fact that there's clearly wisdom there.
- 1:18:04[SPEAKER_02]: the the fact that meaning is inherited.
- 1:18:06[SPEAKER_02]: You can see this all throughout human history.
- 1:18:07[SPEAKER_02]: I've mentioned this many times before and it is encapsulated a lot of ways in the way that we communicate with each other in a way we communicate about ourselves.
- 1:18:15[SPEAKER_02]: So we start with our idea of who we are as a people.
- 1:18:20[SPEAKER_02]: is based on the stories that our elders are telling us around a campfire, right?
- 1:18:26[SPEAKER_02]: Then it gets to books, and we're reading books around a fire inside a house.
- 1:18:30[SPEAKER_02]: And so on and so forth, and then we move on to A and radio and television and the Internet, so on and so forth.
- 1:18:36[SPEAKER_02]: But we've always used these modalities, communicate.
- 1:18:38[SPEAKER_02]: Who we are as people and it's important that we do that because who you are as a person sets the expectations of how you behave as a person and then the message And meaning you transmit to your children and so on and that will has been
- 1:18:53[SPEAKER_02]: intentionally disrupted by postmodernist people and post-liberal people who want to destroy America.
- 1:19:00[SPEAKER_02]: America is strong.
- 1:19:01[SPEAKER_02]: Marxism didn't work here, right?
- 1:19:03[SPEAKER_02]: It didn't work here.
- 1:19:04[SPEAKER_02]: That's where the postmodernist neo- Marxist school of the Frankfurt School came from.
- 1:19:09[SPEAKER_02]: It was a reaction to the fact that Marxism didn't work.
- 1:19:12[SPEAKER_02]: You couldn't convey.
- 1:19:12[SPEAKER_02]: things were too good, and our system worked too well to respond to challenges so that fucking stupid bullshit didn't work here.
- 1:19:20[SPEAKER_02]: So they had to do this new thing, which is a race meaning from Western life, particularly American life.
- 1:19:26[SPEAKER_02]: And there's three millennia of this stuff in counting, and we have all these different contributions from these different
- 1:19:34[SPEAKER_02]: Let's call them organizations, the Greeks taught us about virtue and reason and logic.
- 1:19:40[SPEAKER_02]: The Romans taught us about the law and duty and what it meant to be a citizen.
- 1:19:44[SPEAKER_02]: The Jews taught us about individual identity, right?
- 1:19:48[SPEAKER_02]: You are made in the image of God, which means that you are an individual.
- 1:19:52[SPEAKER_02]: And also you, the royal, you meaning all of you, which means the poorest person of the room and the king were made the same by God, right?
- 1:20:01[SPEAKER_02]: And then the Christians brought to that.
- 1:20:03[SPEAKER_02]: This idea of sacrificial love, Jesus the ultimate man, the ultimate version of a man who's courageous, compassionate, just but also merciful and married to the truth in a way that no other figure had been to that point.
- 1:20:21[SPEAKER_02]: And then even during the dark ages and the medieval time, you see that these thinkers unify faith and reason.
- 1:20:27[SPEAKER_02]: They don't use reason to get rid of faith, they unify the two, and make that part of our identity.
- 1:20:32[SPEAKER_02]: And then, of course, the Enlightenment, despite the fact that Cato and others had mentioned it before, turned this all into what we now know as natural rights, like lock and monascue in these people, turned these things in the Scottish Enlightenment folks.
- 1:20:46[SPEAKER_02]: Now you have an identity of who we are,
- 1:20:49[SPEAKER_02]: I am an American, right?
- 1:20:51[SPEAKER_02]: And that means a lot of things to a lot of people, but at its core, it means I believe in individual liberty.
- 1:20:56[SPEAKER_02]: I believe in negative rights, which means my rights are natural, and the government has no rights to interfere with that.
- 1:21:03[SPEAKER_02]: So on and so forth, that's what it means to be an American in encapsulates all this 3,000 years of history and a big part of that was that final step.
- 1:21:12[SPEAKER_02]: as catalogically of adding Christianity to it, right?
- 1:21:15[SPEAKER_02]: It's a big part for people.
- 1:21:17[SPEAKER_02]: When you take that shit away, people start to slip into this general malaise because they don't know who they are.
- 1:21:22[SPEAKER_02]: They don't know what's expected to them.
- 1:21:24[SPEAKER_02]: Think of like an Australian cattle dog.
- 1:21:28[SPEAKER_02]: right that has no job to do.
- 1:21:30[SPEAKER_02]: It's anxious and nervous.
- 1:21:32[SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't know what to do.
- 1:21:32[SPEAKER_02]: It's fucking gets violent sometimes.
- 1:21:35[SPEAKER_02]: But one that's well trained with a purpose doesn't do any that shit.
- 1:21:38[SPEAKER_02]: It's pretty happy, right?
- 1:21:40[SPEAKER_02]: And it's right by its owner side.
- 1:21:41[SPEAKER_02]: That's the difference between a young man with faith and meaning and a young man without.
- 1:21:46[SPEAKER_05]: Wow.
- 1:21:48[SPEAKER_05]: Dan, how the fuck are you show smart man?
- 1:21:50[SPEAKER_05]: L.O.C.
- 1:21:50[SPEAKER_01]: He's not.
- 1:21:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's, it's all.
- 1:21:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's, he's reading chat GBT over there.
- 1:21:54[SPEAKER_01]: That is real.
- 1:21:55[SPEAKER_05]: That is so eloquent.
- 1:21:57[SPEAKER_05]: I was like, that's so, that's that.
- 1:21:59[SPEAKER_05]: That's, that's, I was trying to say that.
- 1:22:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:22:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's chat GBT, dude.
- 1:22:02[SPEAKER_01]: That's all that are fucking kidding.
- 1:22:04[SPEAKER_01]: I'm kidding.
- 1:22:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's actually chat GBT.
- 1:22:06[SPEAKER_05]: Chat.
- 1:22:07[SPEAKER_05]: The thing about it too is like what I really realize is like we're off just fucking winging it.
- 1:22:11[SPEAKER_05]: We've no answer about anything.
- 1:22:13[SPEAKER_05]: I don't know what's fucked to do as a dad, but I'm making trying to do the best that I can and being around other guys at my church and figuring out that they're just winging it too and like sometimes just having some type of
- 1:22:25[SPEAKER_05]: You know, like the anchor always sort of comes up to my double.
- 1:22:28[SPEAKER_05]: It's just been grounded in something and would like mind and people who are just trying to figure it out.
- 1:22:32[SPEAKER_05]: But want it to be better and can lead into something.
- 1:22:35[SPEAKER_05]: It's been, it's been, for me, personally on my journey, it's been fucking awesome.
- 1:22:40[SPEAKER_01]: Well, man, I love you, dude.
- 1:22:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's always a blast hanging out again.
- 1:22:44[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, your schedule is booked and busy and everything else.

- 1:22:58[SPEAKER_01]: I have a feeling we'll be seeing you very soon, my friends.
- 1:23:01[SPEAKER_05]: I would love to see you guys, man.
- 1:23:02[SPEAKER_05]: Again, I really appreciate you guys, and thanks for kind of words, and I do look up to you guys, and I always appreciate coming on the show.
