Transcript
- 0:16Hello everybody, and welcome to episode nineteen of Cards and Categories. I am
- 0:21Mike Coolard here from Rasball, joined as always by my very good friend Jeremy
- 0:26Burr, also from Rasball. How are you doing tonight, Bud? I'm
- 0:30not doing too bad. I'm a little jet lagged, flying across the country
- 0:33today just to make it to this podcast. I had nothing to do with
- 0:36work where I was in California this morning, but everything to do with making
- 0:39sure I get back to this podcast because this is going to be exciting today
- 0:42because we have more off season fun to talk about, which I don't know
- 0:45about you, but off season fun is always the way to go. So
- 0:50I'm rare and ready to go. Like I said, little jet lag,
- 0:53so I'm going to use as an excuse anytime I trip up later in the
- 0:57SPoD. But how about you, how are you doing today? I am
- 1:00also very jazz because I also love the off season, and the baseball community
- 1:06does not take very long to get into the weird minutia of just like Internet
- 1:12holes and memes and all sorts of just absolutely great fun in the off season.
- 1:19So I think a little bit is just like the withdrawalskicking in for everybody
- 1:23that sits there and watches baseball, or listens to baseball and the radio all
- 1:26day, or reads baseball box scores, or just absorbs baseball and the mass
- 1:34quantities that it puts out that you can tell things that are getting a little
- 1:37squarely because you know what happened this week, and this is the biggest news
- 1:41of the week easily in the baseball community is the Marble simulation on Reddit kicked
- 1:47off this week. It started I think during covid especially, but the Marble
- 1:52simulation kicked off on red A'll link to it. I'm pumped and it's a
- 1:57great community time because the comments will just leave you on the floor laughing going
- 2:02through there and seeing all the just people who don't have anything to do now
- 2:07that baseball's gone, so they've all congregated watching these marbles of the teams and
- 2:13going through the simulation. Just started on Monday, two teams in. We're
- 2:16recording on Wednesday, the Pirates and the Mariners are out and brew. Did
- 2:23you get a chance to watch these simulations before we potted tonight? I did
- 2:28start watching one. Actually just Day three is just posted a few hours ago,
- 2:30so it's now running in live over on the side here, I'm gonna
- 2:36try to see who makes it. I probably could just scroll the comments,
- 2:42but that's really not the fun way to go to see who ends up dropping
- 2:47out of the Marble Race this time around. But hey, give everybody the
- 2:53the what's the what's the excitement of the Marble Race? Your point? It
- 2:58is, it's pointless, but it's fun. I don't understand. I don't.
- 3:02I don't know if I have the same love for it yet that you
- 3:06do. But was last year's predictions? Were they correct? I think is
- 3:10the first place we need to start. They were very correct. The World
- 3:15Series from last year's predictions of the Marble Race had the Angels versus the Rockies,
- 3:21and the Angels won the World Series, so it was dead on very
- 3:24correct. So yeah, So if you haven't seen this before, like I
- 3:30said, it is linked to in our show notes. But the it's a
- 3:32simulation, I don't. I have to guess that this guy sets it up
- 3:36on his own or I don't know. I've done zero research on where the
- 3:39actual origins of this kind of come from. I'm just mesmerized by It's almost
- 3:45like a video game set up, but it's a Marble race or a marble
- 3:51obstacle course like you would set up as a kid, and each team is
- 3:55given a marble and they just race, and so whoever gets to the bottom
- 4:00first is technically the loser. So the first day, like I said,
- 4:04was Pittsburgh. Second day with Seattle. I'm watching the third day right now,
- 4:08so we'll see who it is. But my video cut out so I
- 4:11could not tell you who actually it is, but it is. I've got
- 4:16two minutes left in the video, so that is I will say one drawback
- 4:20of this thing as it goes on, because there's fewer and fewer marbles to
- 4:24push the marbles down the course that like some of the ones towards the end
- 4:29take five six minutes, but they're good for zoning out or like you said,
- 4:33you can just skip to the end and see who ends up winning.
- 4:36This kind of makes me think of you know, other simulations that do,
- 4:40and I feel like every year the for the computer nerds out there that feel
- 4:46like they want to run a fantasy or a real life MLB team out of
- 4:50the park Baseball, if you haven't checked that out, we'll have to talk
- 4:53about that sometime on Here a great simulation that a number folks play, uh
- 5:01and enjoy, but a lot of times it beginnings MLB season, they run
- 5:05like hundreds of seasons to see with you know, the new spring training rosters.
- 5:10Who's gonna wing? I do feel like that one's the lady a little
- 5:13bit more legit than the Marble Run. But hey, with the drafts now
- 5:17being predicted by you know, the balancing ball like the NBA, I mean,
- 5:21how far off is it really? It's it's not that far off.
- 5:27It's very close. So you know where this is going. And I've got
- 5:30to take who's your who's your vote for Marble race this year? Oh we
- 5:35gotta we gotta pick some fun. I I'm putting my faith into Oakland.
- 5:41Okay, no where nowhere better. And I think if you're looking for the
- 5:45team that needs the Marble Run to get them to win, it's it's the
- 5:48Oakland A's if assuming they're still gonna be in Oakland, I'm gonna go.
- 5:56I'm really torn, like it is tempting to take the sacks. I think
- 6:00I'm going to go. Don't be a homer, don't be a Homer.
- 6:02I know, I know it's a it's a poor decision. I think I'm
- 6:06going to go with Marlins, though, I mean, I want to see
- 6:10some big fish energy on this on this marble race. And let's see,
- 6:15we're pulling up on the end of the third day. Detroit is out.
- 6:17So Detroit got twenty eighth place, So good thing nobody picked Detroit. Here.
- 6:23I will have to say, of all the places that you picked,
- 6:25the one stadium that looks like it could be a marble run is Miami.
- 6:30True, I mean, it is missing the fountain nowadays. I know I
- 6:33do miss the fountain a little bit, but hey, it still still kind
- 6:39of looks like could be a marble run even without the I mean, I
- 6:41guess the walk. You might have a beat with the actual slide, that's
- 6:45true, but I mean I don't feel like I want to change my choice.
- 6:48But this has literally no bearing on anything at this point. We're just
- 6:51wasting time. So I mean, we started off with the marble run.
- 6:57Yeah, although the Tigers did. Just who's the Tigers won in the Game
- 7:00of Baseball life because they picked up Jason Bennetti this week And there we go.
- 7:05Now we're back on the horse here. Good transition. You were playing
- 7:09that one very well. Well, yeah, that Bennetti leaving for the Tigers,
- 7:14is it's just one more kick in the nuts for every Socks fan out
- 7:18there. I think so, It's just I don't know what I'm gonna do
- 7:25with these Socks games this summer, that watching them is going to be terrible,
- 7:30because Jason Bennetti was honestly the soundtrack of my summer watching Socks games.
- 7:34And he's just such a fantastic broadcaster that is going to be sorely missed by
- 7:41the entire Socks community. And I didn't see one ill thing written about him
- 7:47on any social media site. The only thing that I ever saw ill willed
- 7:50about Jason Bennette was coming from the mouth of Jerry Reinsdorf, which is what
- 7:57a mister Burns character that like if you can't even He's like the only person
- 8:01in the entire world that doesn't love and just cherish Jason. And I can't
- 8:07believe he's also going to Detroit. It's not like Jason's leaving to go be
- 8:13Monday Night Football or the World Series announcer or anything like huge. He has
- 8:18a real sense of being a part of a baseball community, and I think
- 8:22loves and thrives in that so seeing him go to Detroit, it's not like
- 8:28he's going to even or even like the Dodgers or the Yankees or some premier
- 8:31team. No, it's the Detroit Tigers. That's who he left the socks
- 8:35for. So I have to say, and I've taking this complete left hand
- 8:41turn, one of the most underrated stadiums I think in baseball is in Detroit.
- 8:45Sure, so maybe he's just going there for the They have the great
- 8:50sausages there, and they have a lot of creative food choices. They have
- 8:54really nice little shrine in the Tigers statue. They have a Tiger statue.
- 9:01Yeah, mean it's it's pretty good for for a stadium, and actually one
- 9:03of the more open air stadiums even from the concourse. So shockingly, maybe
- 9:11that's what brought him in. Maybe the stadium is bringing him, not the
- 9:15cold Detroit weather. But I'm granted the stadium. I don't think it's brought
- 9:20anybody else out to the to the ballpark. But at least the Tigers should
- 9:24be a little interesting to watch next year. Oh yeah, I have to
- 9:28think that their viewership on all their broadcasts is going to tick up significantly.
- 9:33That there are lots of people that the White Socks were among probably you know,
- 9:39their top five or six broadcasts with their turning on mb MLB TV looking
- 9:43for a game to watch just because of Jason and especially like no ways watching
- 9:48the Socks, that's for sure. So like that, I think is going
- 9:54to make a huge impact. And it's just another strange move in the saga
- 9:58of the Rhine store ownership because we're seeing it on the North Side here in
- 10:03Chicago with the Cubs that they're finally starting to spend the money getting counsel and
- 10:09I think to make money in Chicago, you got to spend money a little
- 10:13bit, you know that, like Reinstorff needs to put a significantly better product
- 10:18on the field. They're Socks fans, they're rabid baseball fans, and it's
- 10:22good, great community on Twitter slash x and there's people that want to be
- 10:28excited about the team. But when they're constantly shooting themselves on the foot,
- 10:33it's hard to do that. Yeah, it is. But you know,
- 10:37speaking of teams that have struggled m let's transition to awards, we just had
- 10:46the Managers of the Year announced yesterday and we had Cy Young's today Rookie of
- 10:52the year was in the past, and I feel like everybody knew knew where
- 10:56those ones were going. Curious your thoughts. That's on the Manager of the
- 11:01Year voting and cy Young voting, so I will not admit. I will
- 11:07admit I actually haven't looked at the Cy Young voting yet, so I will
- 11:09look at it now. That's a very informed podcaster move there, But I
- 11:16think that one looks like it's going shock too, right Garrett Cole? And
- 11:20then is it Snell? Okay, yeah, there was there was no shock
- 11:22there. They were pretty gosh darning clear as far as who who got those,
- 11:28and even i'd say the from a runner up perspective, you know,
- 11:33American League Cole followed by Sonny Gray and then Kevin Gosman, and then over
- 11:39the National League he had Snell with Logan Web and then Zach Gallen. So
- 11:43I don't think really there was not a much suspense really much anywhere with with
- 11:48these, and I think they're pretty cut and dry, and i'd say one
- 11:52of the most cut and dry votes, I would say, until you look
- 11:58at the m v P s, which is probably even more cut and dry
- 12:03than anything else. Those are probably both unanimous selections across the both leagues.
- 12:07So but saying that I want to go back to the Managers of the Year,
- 12:11he had Skip Schumacher from the Marlins win a Manager of the Year,
- 12:18then Brandon Hyde over from the Orioles. Any shocks there for you or only
- 12:26reaction beam there would go the Cardinals let another good thing get away Skip Schumacher.
- 12:31Yeah, especially for like what they kept it. So it's always been
- 12:35a strange move. And yeah, I don't know even if this was really
- 12:39a shocking vote, right that, Like, all of these have been very
- 12:43easy to predict votes, So it's been I don't know. Maybe that's why
- 12:48I'm so fascinated by the Marble race, is that these awards are not kind
- 12:52of cool where you're looking towards the excitement and anticipation of what could happen.
- 13:01I will say that I do enjoy, and I've always enjoyed since I was
- 13:03a kid, looking at the down ballot MVP voting, just to see all
- 13:07the random dudes that get some of those top ten votes and seeing some of
- 13:13the homers that get voted for from each of the different you know, sports
- 13:18regions and writers. So I will enjoy that that I think next time we
- 13:22will be able to parse apart some fun MVP votes and go through that grade.
- 13:28Let's let's just do a real quick look at the cy youngs here just
- 13:31for the fun, so al saw Young voting. Tell me when you're surprised
- 13:35by the name, it's right. We got Garrett Cole, Sonny Gray,
- 13:39Kevin Gosman, Kyle Bradish, Louis Castillo. Still making sense, right,
- 13:43Zach Eflin, Pablo Lopez, George Kirby, fram Ravaldez, Chris Seabassett,
- 13:50Philip Bautista, Chris Martin of the Red Sox. See, yeah, that's
- 13:56that's the type of stuff I'm here for, because that's a that's a good
- 14:01one. That's a that's a good It had to have been a Boston writer
- 14:05that voted for that one, right, Yeah, it had had to be
- 14:07And I don't have the nl ones right in front of me, so it's
- 14:13great. Yeah, but Chris Martin did get a down vote fifth place a
- 14:20Elsa Young. I haven't looked at Chris Martin's results. It came from Paul
- 14:24Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune. That doesn't even make any sense. Is he
- 14:30like his is he like his nephew? Or something. I mean, he
- 14:33had he did have a good year, but like, uh, that is,
- 14:39he voted for him in his Here's Paul Sullivan's top five, Garrett Cole,
- 14:45Sonny Gray, Kyle Bradish, Zach Eflin, then Martin, Like he
- 14:50voted for Martin over Felix Bautista and Cosmos. Yeah. So yeah, look
- 14:58in the NLS Young there's really no there's no there's no fun here. The
- 15:01last place was Corbyn Burns, you got code I singa Wheeler like it made
- 15:07sense. Stryder really just barely missed out being being third, right behind Gallon,
- 15:13but it was Snell ran away with that one as well. He only
- 15:16had two second place votes. I think Cole was unanimous. So really nothing
- 15:22nothing shocking here for for anybody. The really the only thing that h so
- 15:30to look at is why did two guys vote for Logan Web? Actually no,
- 15:37logan Web got one first, Zach Gallen got one first, and shocker,
- 15:41it's Barry Bloom out of Arizona who gave Gallen the first place vote.
- 15:46So there was a little bit of homer homer Ism there as well. But
- 15:50then who did you say out of Chicago had the Chris Martin vote Paul Sullivan.
- 15:54Okay, I don't think they all vote for the same awards. They
- 15:58don't, but it was Jordan Besta from dot com out of Chicago voted for
- 16:02Logan Web. So apparently the Chicago chapters are having a little struggle with the
- 16:06voting this year. I mean, I can get voting for Web just because
- 16:08if you didn't like watching the walk experience with Blake Snow, I can get
- 16:12on board with that. Yeah. Here's the fun fact. Chris Martin was
- 16:18better last year and didn't garner any votes. He was actually just very mid
- 16:22this year. He had a I see somebody walking around with Chris Martin Cygung
- 16:29twenty twenty three runner up shirt somewhere the next season. Well, runner up.
- 16:37It's all relative terms, right, he wasn't first, that first or
- 16:40last, Right, he's twelve twelve, top twelve, right, yeah,
- 16:44top top twelve, cy young finisher, Chris Martin no top dozen, top
- 16:51dozen, also last. But that's okay, all right? Well, I
- 16:56think we shall also get to the other big news that we've really buried the
- 16:59lead on in that is we have merch. I guess I should have opened
- 17:02with that if we want to actually sell any of it, But now you're
- 17:06missing the perfect opportunity. I the layup of the Chris Martin runner up T
- 17:11shirts. Did you did not pick that up and perfectly move it over to
- 17:15merch. I am disappointed you're going to be demoted from your position. Noted
- 17:22Chris Martin top twelve T shirts going up in the store soon, because I
- 17:27think we will see. Because I will preface this to all of our listeners
- 17:33out there, I think that the store is up and running correctly, that
- 17:34it's not like a temporary thing. But I think you should be able to
- 17:38go on and just order what you want and it'll ship directly to you.
- 17:42That we've got a Beanie Dad hat and a T shirt up there right now,
- 17:47just stuff with the cards and categories logo. It doesn't have a very
- 17:52easy to pronounce website because it's through Spring and they want to charge me to
- 17:56get like my own, like real website with it, which you know,
- 18:00if there's interest in it and it makes it easier to link to, I
- 18:04will certainly do that, but we will link to it in the show notes.
- 18:07Oh go ahead. I just recognize that we're not in this for the
- 18:11money. Our MERT sales in our podcast earnings. I don't know if they
- 18:19pay pay for the electricity for it, but that's okay. We do it
- 18:22for the love of the game and for the love of whoever's listening, because
- 18:26it couldn't there's no other way that we would rather do it. Yeah,
- 18:30and I'm trying to make a people look fashionable, you know, when you're
- 18:33out there running errands, get a nice little dad hat. Or it's obviously
- 18:37almost winter time time for Cards and Categories beanie. So like I said,
- 18:41I will link to that in the show notes, and you can also find
- 18:44it on our Twitter slash x handle. I'll have it linked there on Cards
- 18:49Categories on Twitter slash x or if you just want me to email you the
- 18:55link directly, you can reach us at Cards Categories at gmail dot com.
- 18:59And yeah, it'll be great. I'm gonna rock a new Cards Categories hat.
- 19:03It's gonna be real fun having our stuff on some merch so hopefully some
- 19:07other people out there. I'm looking for the Mikey Coolyard autographed hat. That's
- 19:11my Oh yeah, where I'm gonna be going. But I do think,
- 19:15you know, we'll have to look, you know, like I said,
- 19:17Chris Martin twelfth twelfth runner up a Elsi Young Shirt definitely needs to find a
- 19:23spot in the store at least for a short amount of time. Yeah,
- 19:26until I get a season desist. But we'll see that takes okay. Well,
- 19:33Yeah, stick around with us. We've got a great show going through
- 19:37some updates on new releases again for cards, because they keep steamrolling more cards
- 19:41out the factory with the holiday season coming up. So we've got TOPS Chrome
- 19:48Update coming out, and there's actually some fun features in the set that we'll
- 19:52talk about after that when our Categories Fantasy Baseball discussion, we will go through
- 19:59some trade candidates from and will be trade rumors and give thoughts on where some
- 20:04of these players might be headed and what might mean for their fancy value.
- 20:08So stick around. We'll be back right after the break. All right,
- 20:27Welcome back everybody to the card section of Cards and Categories. Here we're going
- 20:33to go into the release of TOPS Chrome Update twenty twenty three that came out
- 20:38just today, so it hit shelves in hobby stores today on eleven fifteen to
- 20:44get hobby Boxes or Jumpo Hobby Boxes or Breaker's Delights, which are a new
- 20:51type of box. So we've got three options if you're going to be ripping
- 20:56TOPS Chrome upbate. This year seems like maybe there's no retail version, but
- 21:00this year compared to other years, but I don't know if maybe some might
- 21:04release later. That this set kind of came on the calendar fast and rolled
- 21:10out really quickly, so I wouldn't be surprised if there is more retail coming.
- 21:15And yeah, I think there's some blasters out there for about thirty five.
- 21:18I don't hit the shelves yet, but I've definitely seen them odds advertised.
- 21:23Awesome. Yeah, that's good to hear because, like, it is
- 21:27a fun product I think to rip a blaster of because if you've been with
- 21:33us long enough that we cover the debut of TOPS Chrome over the summer and
- 21:37TOPS Update just last month in the beginning of last month, right that those
- 21:44two products combine here, so you've got the Tops Chrome version of the update
- 21:48set. And what it does is I think it's a really fun rip because
- 21:53it's again loaded with lots of rookies like TOPS Update was, but lots of
- 22:00really fun parallels and inserts in this year set that are different from the regular
- 22:06update base and from TOPS chromeb itself, so some old ones, some new
- 22:11ones, and I think it just provides a little more variation in a really
- 22:15nice chrome finish. So Brew, how do you feel about TOPS Chrome update
- 22:19every year and kind of where is it in your list of sets that you
- 22:25like to open. Yeah, I've always struggled with update just because of the
- 22:30rookie day views just not being as collectible. But I am I'm slightly intrigued
- 22:37this year by TOPS Chrome Update because it looks like they've put a little bit
- 22:41more, a few more twists on the past years, and I feel like
- 22:45it maybe this is just feel because this is no evidence of this, but
- 22:49it feels like it's come out a little quicker on the heels of the baseball
- 22:52season that has in the past, which is like we're all still kind of
- 22:56in it. We're doing the awards right now, we're just hitting free agency.
- 23:00We just have the GM meetings where it's not like we're full off season
- 23:04mode. So it still is twenty twenty three and we're still talking about those
- 23:10guys. So I think it is a fun, fun set to open,
- 23:15And like I said, I always love the Chrome cards, always a big
- 23:18fan of those. The Downfall generally with chrome is just what you get in
- 23:22a box is usually less than what you'd get kind of in a typical typical
- 23:29rip. You know, even just for like a hobby box. You're getting
- 23:34twenty four packs in a hobby box, but there's only four cards per pack,
- 23:38so you know, you're you're talking, uh, ninety six cards in
- 23:42the hobby box and your your jumbo what one fifty somewhere in there as far
- 23:48as number number of cards, So it is a two hundred twenty cards set.
- 23:53But whereas a non chrome set, you generally with a hobby box can
- 24:00get almost the whole set, just have to go chase a few things.
- 24:02You probably need two or three chrome hobby boxes to go after the updates set.
- 24:07And historically I don't know about you, but I feel like they do
- 24:11not coolate these very well, and so you might get three boxes and get
- 24:15the exact same thing within all. So I think it's fun set. I
- 24:18think there's some fun little tweaks this year with those that we can talk about
- 24:25and go from there. So how about you, what's the one of the
- 24:29ones things that you're looking forward to the most out of update this year?
- 24:33So I'm sitting here scrolling the auto list, and it is expansive. It
- 24:37is a lot of autographs, lots of dud names that you know you can
- 24:42expect in the Chrome products nowadays in terms of just I mean, they're trying
- 24:47to do a good job of covering rookies from all across the league and all
- 24:52teams. So that's kind of what leads to some of these dudes like Tarin
- 24:56Favavra and Wynton Bernard and and who else is kind of really random on this
- 25:03list. Chris ok from the Reds that just these guys that are, you
- 25:07know, making their debuts and it's really great that they get to sign these
- 25:11cards, but those are offset a lot by the top end of this autograph
- 25:17checklist is heavy. There's legend autographs, there's big time stars, there's adle
- 25:23rookies, Corby and Carroll rookies, Gunner Henderson rookies, triple autographs, and
- 25:30I haven't even gotten to the best one. And that's what has really been
- 25:36I think everyone is trying to figure out how fanatics and TOPS was going to
- 25:40do this. But the biggest hit out of this product this year is the
- 25:42pro debut signed autographed patch cards. So TOPS worked in conjunction with MLB and
- 25:49fanatics and fanatics and tops is the same because they're the conglomerate together to put
- 25:56on everybody's jersey. This year that made a debut a little patch on their
- 26:02sleeve that said pro debut, and then that patch is actually going into these
- 26:06cards being autographed by those players and is going to be that game used authentic
- 26:11patch. So you're gonna see some really crazy names on that checklist from that
- 26:18that these cards. I'm not like the ceiling is kind of there is no
- 26:26ceiling on the value of some of these cards because it's the only one of
- 26:30it. And you've got an Anthony Volpi one, You've got Brandon Fatt,
- 26:33You've got Bryce Miller, Bobby Miller, You've got Eduard Julian, You've got
- 26:40Jordan Walker, You've got Matt McClean. Is Ellie on this one. Ellie's
- 26:47not in this set, but Ellie will have one eventually. You're Perez is
- 26:49in here. Riley Pint is kind of a fun one, but just some
- 26:53pretty big names with one of one game used in their rookie aput patches that
- 27:02it's really driving a lot of interest in this product. Yeah, because I
- 27:06think I was looking there's ninety one of the Rookie Debut patch autographed cards and
- 27:14some way we can link to it in the in the show notes, but
- 27:18on Twitter slash x there's a guy goes by. The collector was guru.
- 27:23He actually went through and did the math on how rare these are from a
- 27:29dollar perspective, because being ninety one cards in the entire product, it's gonna
- 27:34be hard to find them. And so essentially, like in a hobby box,
- 27:37we're talking one out of eighty four thousand packs, in a Jumbo,
- 27:42one out of thirteen thousand packs. Blasters one out of three hundred and ninety
- 27:47one thousand packs. So just for fun, the average spin per box to
- 27:55find one of these one of one protybut patch autos which are looking at the
- 28:00picture of the Vulpei one. They are really cool. So they are I
- 28:03mean, they're gonna be worth a pretty penny for your hobby boxes. You
- 28:07got to spend just roughly, you know, a half a million dollars to
- 28:11find one through hobby boxes. Must a little less on Jumbo's, a little
- 28:17more on the breaker's Delight, which we can talk about here in a second,
- 28:18and just for fun, blasters, because you know, harder to find
- 28:22the hits. You got to spend about a cool two million dollars on blasters
- 28:26to find one of these. So if you find one of these in blasters,
- 28:30kudos to you. There's probably three. Uh, they're probably not that
- 28:34easy to find in blasters, and you know, somebody's gonna hit like that
- 28:38vulpey out of a blaster somewhere and that thing is going to just go for
- 28:44a bonkers amount of money. But hey, it's still fun. It's a
- 28:48cool, unique thing that they did this year, and I give them kudos
- 28:52for thinking this one through. It seems to not be the maybe the forte
- 28:56over a fanatics is to think these things through. But they did a great
- 29:00job on this one, working with MLB to have these be truly like True
- 29:07Game used Unique Game used in their pro debut, and then to translate them
- 29:12into cards with I sure hope at least on the one that we're looking at
- 29:17an on card autograph, please don't ruin these with a with a sticker.
- 29:21A. Well, so I'm gonna take a diversion here. I was looking
- 29:26at the autos just from the set themselves, and there are and maybe this
- 29:30has been the case in the past with with tops update, I've just missed
- 29:34it, but there's a mixture of sticker and on card autos, and I
- 29:40thought, I'm like, okay, it's got to be something with like the
- 29:41rookie debuts or like the ones that already had a chrome auto. They're all
- 29:45gonna be stickers and all you guys with the first their first chrome auto,
- 29:48it's gonna be on card. No, Matt McClain is a sticker auto.
- 29:53And then you go in and there's Garrett Mitchell with an on card auto and
- 29:56I'm like, I don't know a lot. I don't know what they did
- 30:00that, but man, I'm sitting here going you're pulling cards out of the
- 30:04box, and to have like Matt McClain, who's probably one of the bigger
- 30:07names, it's not the biggest name in update chrome for his I hate to
- 30:12say first because if you think of Bowman, but for his official rookie chrome
- 30:18auto card is a stick Coronto. So that's a little painful to see.
- 30:23And I said, I don't think they'll do with the prototyput patches. I
- 30:26sure hope they thought through that one. But man, as a fan of
- 30:30the of those players that's got hurt a little bit that you don't get the
- 30:33true on card chrome autograph. Yeah, and that is consistent with previous years
- 30:41because last year's Julio's were stickers a lot. So I don't know if it's
- 30:47Yeah, I don't know how that all works in terms of the back end
- 30:49of how TOPS determines which type of auto goes in. And it's probably just
- 30:56based on what they get back in time to put set out because like it
- 31:00is a little bit of a rush compared to other sets that they've got to
- 31:04get newer rookies in and rookie debut cards in. That this set moves a
- 31:10lot quicker than you know, your typical chrome or other flagship products. So
- 31:15with Itach Thompson on card auto, he confirmed that one. Yeah, confirm,
- 31:22confirm that. Don't worry folks, We've got some really big ones here.
- 31:26The Narrisco Crook from the Boston Red Sox is on card. Yeah.
- 31:32Nice. But Royce, but Royce Lewis is a sticker. So you know
- 31:34what, it's probably because like some of these more dud guys we were talking
- 31:38about, like just aren't signing as much or quite as busy so they have
- 31:42the time to do the on card and then Tops maybe like slaps the stickers
- 31:47on for guys that they can't get this stuff back from. There has to
- 31:49be something. There's something like Brandon fat Gabriel Morenolds are all stickers, and
- 31:53so there must be something to the degree of like you had a short turnaround,
- 31:57or maybe there's a team aspect of how they were facilitated. But this
- 32:01is going to keep me perplexed for the next few weeks here as I try
- 32:05to figure out what the logic is. So goes back on track and I'm
- 32:08taking us off Well, yeah, I mean I think the best way I
- 32:10guess back on track is to do the stick and get through all these parallels
- 32:15because just like regular Tops Chrome, we've got a bonanza of parallels. Once
- 32:20again that I think that they knew off the bat once they were burying these
- 32:24pro debut patches in here that they were going to turn Update Chrome Chrome Update
- 32:29into a more premiere set than I think it has been traditionally in the past.
- 32:32And so with that they really got the printing presses cranked up with all
- 32:37the different parallels that whatever parallel machine that they've got going was busy. So
- 32:44here we go. We've got regular refractors, prism refractors, negative refractors,
- 32:50Magenta refractors, magenta purple lava lamp refractors, which is new. I don't
- 32:55think I've said the combination of words before. Makes me think if a fruit
- 33:00by the foot, that would be a cool one to see. Purple refractors,
- 33:02aqua refractors, aqua blue lava lamp refractors again, another new one,
- 33:07blue refractors, blue green lava lamp refractors, another new one, green refractors,
- 33:14gold refractors, gold mini diamond refractors, which are hobby only. That'll
- 33:19be kind of cool. They'll look like top skilded orange refractors, orange red
- 33:23lava lamp refractors, which, man, that's probably my favorite because it's gonna
- 33:29look amazing, and red refractors, printing plates, superfractors one of ones there,
- 33:37and then you've also got the same on the autos. For the most
- 33:44part, I'm not gonna read all of those because I think the biggest takeaway
- 33:47here is the pink wave refractors are probably in retail, they're just not on
- 33:53the list, so those are like a standard in tops Chrome update as well.
- 33:59As purple refractors, and so the ones that I just lost off are
- 34:04the numbered purple refractors. Lots of times they have an unnumbered purple refractor,
- 34:08so I think those will probably still be in chrome update that just some of
- 34:13the retail details haven't been out there as much. But I guess we'll see.
- 34:16The other thing I've noted there's there's no more wave refractors in this that
- 34:22the lava lamp refractors have replaced the wave refractors, So I will be very
- 34:29interested to see what those look like because that's the first time they've been in
- 34:31a product this year. Yeah, so you say that I'm looking at the
- 34:37checklist, I am seeing some wave refractors. Okay, So there's it's almost
- 34:44like there's two different sets of parallels by potentially box. So I'm out on
- 34:52becket dot com what they're going through. And so they have a full list
- 34:59under the tops curve, and then they have another list. They talk about
- 35:04the gold wave, orange wave, red wave being hobby only, so I'm
- 35:08wondering if there's a shorter run potentially with some of these that are hard to
- 35:15find, but the details are pretty scarce. I think those are the autos
- 35:20you're looking at. Oh, I think you're right. Well, that's no
- 35:23fun, which but makes sense because yeah, that's especially if this is the
- 35:30first time they're pumping out these lava lamp refractors. Maybe they were focusing the
- 35:35wave refractors on producing the auto stuff and these lava lamp refractor lines were busy
- 35:43on the regular set. Yeah, And I'm looking at the lava lamp refract
- 35:46fractors a few that are out there so far on eBay, and they make
- 35:50me think that they took the ray waves, the black and white ray waves
- 35:54out of the light boxes for like Bowman and top Scrome from last year and
- 36:00just added color to them. It's kind of what they look like they are,
- 36:04I mean, and those those were very cool cards themselves, So there
- 36:07is quite a few out there. To your point, what I'm seeing is
- 36:12like with a team color match, they are just unbelievably cool. But then
- 36:16when you kind of get off the team color match, it's just not quite
- 36:21the same thing. I'm looking like a Kyle Farmer Twins with a green blue
- 36:25green lava. It's just it's just not it's just not hitting the way that
- 36:30you would expect. Whereas you get kind of the I'm gonna call it the
- 36:34purple, the red purple with like the braves. Oh, looks just fantastic.
- 36:38And so it really think it's gonna have a lot of intrigue. Go
- 36:44to the padres with the orange, that's gonna look fantastic depending on what team
- 36:50you are, what your team colors are. I think that's really gonna Those
- 36:52are really gonna pop and they're gonna be pretty popular. Yeah, and these
- 36:55are I do wonder if it's the same pattern as the wave wave. It's
- 37:00not as like consistent. It's like a combination of the nucleus or other types
- 37:07of refractors they put into like cosmic chrome and the ray wave. It's like
- 37:13some yeah they met in the middle or the tie dive refractors that came out
- 37:19with regular was that regular tops chrome those tid ive refractors, I think so,
- 37:24I think it was so something in between. But they do look really
- 37:29cool. I'm eyeing up right now like a blue green JP France. That
- 37:32looks really cool. Yeah. I think. Then the other thing that we
- 37:37kind of glazed over earlier that we you know, we gotta go back on
- 37:43is the tops. There was three boxes that you can get from Tops not
- 37:49counting retail, you can get the jumbo of the Hobby, but you also
- 37:52get the breakers Light Box, which I don't know if you've looked into that
- 37:57too much, but it's a very uni nique box design. It is kind
- 38:02of a from what I've seen, a mid price point, so it's kind
- 38:06of splits the difference between your jumbos and your hobbies. And it is exactly
- 38:13what it sounds like when it makes a lot of sense when you look at
- 38:15it. It is designed for breakers. It's not what you might want to
- 38:19say, which is the breakers get all the cool cards and all those things.
- 38:22It removes the base cards and each Tops Chrome Delight Hobby Breaker Box has
- 38:29one twelve card pack and in that pack there are six refractors, two on
- 38:34card autographs, one youth quake, and three base number parallels. That's it.
- 38:39That's what you get. Twelve cards, and it is kind of more
- 38:45direct go for the Hits type of car format, which is really kind of
- 38:50intriguing for folks that are after those Hits. So also being able to get
- 38:57two on card autographs for with all those other parallels without paying too much more
- 39:04than the Hobby. So very interesting. I'm not sure if that's gonna be
- 39:07a thing going forward or if not, but hey, I have more power
- 39:15to them for thinking creatively, and I bet your Breakers really do appreciate that
- 39:20versus going through all the base cards. Now, collectors like you and I
- 39:23who love our base cards probably not the target target market, but being able
- 39:30to go through those a lot quicker and really get to your hits is going
- 39:35to be probably a welcome, welcome change for the Breakers. So yeah,
- 39:43what are your thoughts on the Delight boxes? Breakers Delights well, and so
- 39:45it looks like they're being priced like the mid three hundred's per box, So
- 39:52it's almost kind of the equivalent of like a Tier one box or one of
- 39:57those other boxes where you have a limited number of car cards and you have
- 40:00it really focused on high end cards and autos and patches and refractors and things
- 40:07like that. So I get where it's coming from. Obviously, there is
- 40:10the concerning aspect of these boxes being loaded with more of the parallels and things
- 40:17that people still want to hit in, you know, the blaster boxes and
- 40:24regular hobby boxes, and hopefully it's not like where the majority of those pro
- 40:30debut cards are buried that. I hope that those are evenly spread out and
- 40:37it's not just all within these breakers boxes and you can see them getting pulled,
- 40:40but you have to imagine a lot of the cooler cards are in these
- 40:44boxes. So it's a little bit of are they It is concerning I think
- 40:52for then the overall industry if that's the lane that they're going to start playing
- 40:55in, because to be able to get some of these really cool cards or
- 41:00have the opportunity to pull them, you're going to have to work through the
- 41:05channel of a breaker, which is unfortunate because like the entire point of this
- 41:09has always been being able to roll into your Walmart and hit that Anthony Folby
- 41:15pro debut card. I mean, you know, your chances are worse than
- 41:21Charlie from the lottery here. We recognize that, but you still like the
- 41:27exactly the right and so yeah, that'll be concerning going forward to see how
- 41:34that works out. I mean, I, like I said, if it's
- 41:37proportional and it's lined up, okay, yeah, I can get it and
- 41:40understand that it's just a different type of product and having to know that,
- 41:45like you know, it's not like it's drastically changing what's in my blaster box.
- 41:52But if it is changing that, then it's I think a really concerning
- 41:57issue because it really topples just a lot of I think, what could be
- 42:02the future of where baseball cards go because overall, the you've got to build
- 42:08a bigger and broader base instead of trying to cash everything in now the way
- 42:14Finax tries to do from time to time. Yes, so it'll be interesting
- 42:17to see if that is a new trend. We're just something to try and
- 42:21out with with update. I have to expect that if they if they're doing
- 42:24this now, it's already in the plans for next year for most of the
- 42:29base series or at least the Chrome series, is what I would have to
- 42:31guess. So yeah, OK, right, well let's let's hit the upcoming
- 42:37sets. I got one that I at least want to want to mention,
- 42:42but I've probably talked about before. So anything you want to hit on as
- 42:45far as upcoming sets, because we do have a pretty chocked full section,
- 42:49uh for the next what two three weeks here? Yeah, they're still rolling
- 42:54out. I have been surprised that every time that I go back into to
- 42:59check it from the calendars that are out there. The sets are still coming,
- 43:04and we've been warning that a couple of weeks the past few weeks,
- 43:07but they are determined to get these sets out for the holiday season. Yeah,
- 43:12So we have Tops Museum coming here about a week from today, just
- 43:16the beginning of December. We have National Treasures Tops and Inception Bowmen Draft coming
- 43:22out on the twelfth of December. Bowen Draft used to be a pretty expensive
- 43:27product. It was like four hundred dollars a box. It's so something that
- 43:31we probably will talk about more as we get closer, to talk about some
- 43:34of the big prospects that you're going for in Draft, which has always been
- 43:37a fun set to collect, getting a little further out of reach and it
- 43:39has in the past. Then, also middle of December, we have Tops
- 43:44Japan and just in case you wanted it, it is out live on the
- 43:49Tops of Japan website right now. It is roughly eighteen thousand yen if you
- 43:55are counting, otherwise knowing as one hundred and twenty two dollars a box.
- 43:58If you want to do the translation, I would like to tell you that
- 44:00I read all about it, but unfortunately I don't speak Japanese, and all
- 44:07I was able to get is there's twenty four packs in a box anten cards
- 44:09per pack, and that's all I know. But hey, for one hundred
- 44:15and twenty two dollars, you know, they usually have some pretty cool parallels
- 44:19in there. Two hundred and forty cards not too bad. I did not
- 44:22look at shipping yet, so okay. And I also don't know if I
- 44:27know how to look at the shipping to be frank, but I will own
- 44:30I have ordered Tops Japan before from their website and tossed it into my cart.
- 44:37I'm failing to do so as we speak, and I would say it's
- 44:43usual air, but I literally don't know what I'm doing because I can't read
- 44:45the website. Doesn't mean I won't try to order one just for the fun
- 44:49of getting the Tops Japan, which is a much harder to find product here.
- 44:54So if you order some of those, please let us know. Let's
- 44:59just send us a note what your favorite cards are in the Top Japan box.
- 45:02But, like I said, a little over eighteen thousand yen if you're
- 45:06counting. Yeah, And if you are out there and can speak Japanese,
- 45:10reach out to Bruce so you can translate this website for him. So you
- 45:13can help them out. All. I know that there's no insurance because that's
- 45:17in English. For some reason, I have to pay for the customs duties
- 45:22and there's no insurance. Those are the only things in English apparently just made
- 45:28just for me. Yeah, they've run into that situation a couple of times,
- 45:31I guess in the past. Well, anyway, we will wrap up
- 45:35the cards section here and we will be back analyzing some trade candidates from Ember
- 45:40we trade rumors for the category section and what it could mean for their fancy
- 45:45value. Stick around, Okay, welcome back everybody to the category section of
- 46:05cards and categories, and today for the Fantasy Baseball analysis, we're going to
- 46:08get into some of the top trade candidates from MLB Trade Rumors put out a
- 46:15list of the top twenty five trade candidates in their mind just to analyze,
- 46:22you know, these teams that might be looking to move players and contracts over
- 46:28the offseason and find different landing spots for them. You know, how will
- 46:32that impact their value, you know, going away from their current rosters.
- 46:37And I think just kind of like the free agents we did last week in
- 46:39general, we probably both had the caveat that. If guys do move.
- 46:45I'm on board for kind of taking a few ticks off of their value just
- 46:51because the human element comes in that, you know, learning where you're going
- 46:55to be living and meeting new people and getting a new routine. I think
- 47:01it just grinds on guys that anytime somebody moves, I'm always taking a tick
- 47:07or two off of their value and would prefer somebody that sticks, or maybe
- 47:13even like sometimes I do even go to the next layer of considering did this
- 47:17guy used to playing this division and has he played this team more often?
- 47:22Things like that that you know, there's different grades and variations to how it
- 47:25could affect them psychologically. But brew are you kind of in the same camp
- 47:30as we get into these discussions that you would prefer to see these guys stick
- 47:34and unless you're obviously move in somewhere that's a significant upgrade either park or lineup
- 47:40wise, that generally it kind of grinds on players. Yeah, I think
- 47:45you're right. I think the general generalized statement is these guys have to learn
- 47:51new lineups, they have to find you know, there's risk of the philosophies,
- 47:57especially from a pitching perspective, where they're going. They have to learn
- 48:00and Gail with the But then there's a minutia of there's some locations that you
- 48:07can land that really do boost your value. And so just you know a
- 48:12few good examples that pictures landing in like Houston or Cleveland tend to be pretty
- 48:21intriguing because they tend to mess their mixed. Tampa also another one that UH
- 48:24tends to really seem like they analyze pictures and can add to their values.
- 48:30Same for hitters moving from a weaker lineup to a stronger lineup or even really
- 48:37much of a hitters park. So getting trade to Colorado or getting traded to
- 48:44Atlanta also things that can drastically impact value. But as a general statement,
- 48:51I think it's fair that there there is risk of change, high expectations that
- 48:57do tend to dragon a player that you'll want to tick him down unless there
- 49:00is the right landing spot for him. So right there with you for the
- 49:07vast majority of trades. So gotcha. And so we will get into like
- 49:13I said, it's from MLB Trade Rumors their top twenty five trade candidates.
- 49:16I'll link to it in the show notes, but we just picked six that
- 49:20we want to analyze and we'll go from there. So the first guy.
- 49:22I think, really there's a lot of pieces to analyze and parts here with
- 49:29Juan Soto, outfielder for the Padres, is first in the MLB trade rumors
- 49:34list and going to be a really intriguing piece here for the off season to
- 49:37see. The Padres are probably cut in payroll and he's going to be a
- 49:43free agent after the season, so are they going to move him here this
- 49:46offseason? And you know, I think it could be actually a situation where
- 49:52it's a pretty big detriment to one Soto because as much as he struggled early
- 49:57in the year, when it was all said and done, he really earned
- 50:00that value of like he was going around the one two turn in twenty twenty
- 50:05three drafts and at the end of the year he ended up with thirty five
- 50:08homers, ninety seven runs, one hundred and nine RBI, twelve steals,
- 50:13and had two seventy five average. That obviously he didn't get to his whole
- 50:17ceiling in San Diego this year, but you can't complain about that kind of
- 50:22being like the floor you locked in with bon Soto. Yeah, and really
- 50:27he had a bad like April May like after that he was fantastic. I
- 50:31was looking after May first. He hit two ninety with thirty home runs,
- 50:37ninety eight RBIs and eleven steels. So the vast majority of the production he's
- 50:39mentioned happened after May first, and it was very consistent at that point.
- 50:44So yeah, he got a little hard to get going, but he was
- 50:47one Soto and so I think that he is very comfortable now in San Diego,
- 50:52is making the most of it. So the only thing that really could
- 50:58help his value is going to who is stacked lineup somewhere, and otherwise I
- 51:04have to think that the pressure of going anywhere else, you know, because
- 51:08everybody's rumored with Sodo's, the Dodgers, is the Yankees, is most most
- 51:13of those places are going to have extremely high expectations because anybody that trades for
- 51:17Wan Soda has to be able to pay one Sodo. That's why that's why
- 51:22the Padres might trade him, is because they don't want to pay Wan Soda
- 51:24what Wan Soda deserves. And so I think that there is going to be
- 51:30some high pressure for him wherever he lands. So I don't know, what
- 51:37do you think? Where? Where? Where are you expecting him to?
- 51:39Uh? Are you expecting him to move. What's your what's your percentage odds
- 51:44that he's going to move? And if you had to take a guess,
- 51:45where do you think he lands. I do think he's gonna move, and
- 51:49it's going to be somewhere big. Like you said, I think whoever doesn't
- 51:52get out Tani is the person who calls the padres right away and tries to
- 51:58get Sodo. So that's you know, Yankee Dodgers, you know, Mets,
- 52:01some of these really big time teams that are wanting to talk to Wan
- 52:06Soto about an extension. And because of that, you know, it will
- 52:10be a lot of pressure, like you said, and sure it is going
- 52:13into a good lineup, but he's already hitting a great lineup, you know
- 52:16that, Like he would have been projected to have Xander Bogart's and Fernando Tatists
- 52:21in front of him again and Manny Machado and Hastin Kim hitting behind him.
- 52:27So it's tough to get a juicier lineup than that, which is really what
- 52:30drove a lot of you know, those counting stats that you can that you
- 52:35can bank with Juan Soto. So because of that, I think, you
- 52:39know, if he goes to New York. That's a huge boost in value,
- 52:43and I think you'll be seeing him at the back end of the first
- 52:45round again. Right now, he's going seventeenth in NFBC drafts, so going
- 52:52mid second round, and yeah, if he moves, I think he can
- 52:57still be of good value there, because honestly, this is another where he's
- 53:01just turned twenty five. The sky is still kind of the limit because of
- 53:06his eye and his batting ability. He just put up his hardest hit or
- 53:10his highest hard hit rate of his career last year, and he has the
- 53:16advantage of not being able to be shifted anymore. So he's still could produce
- 53:22some pretty high end value for you out of that second round. And I
- 53:27wouldn't be worried about taking him there even if you know he does. There
- 53:31is the possibility of him getting traded, which I think is pretty like ninety
- 53:36percent. Maybe what do you think? Yeah, I don't know if I'm
- 53:38gonna go ninety percent. I find a sixty to seventy percent range because it's
- 53:44it's so hard to trade a superstar because you have to have two teams that
- 53:49are interested, like not just interested, that have the capital and have the
- 53:53willingness to go there. And what I'm a little worried about with the Sodo
- 53:59market is, to your point, Otani Yamamoto, a few of those guys,
- 54:04a few the you know, big big name pictures like Snell. Like,
- 54:07if a few of those guys do get spread between those big pockets,
- 54:13is there gonna be big enough market for Soto that's gonna drive the price where
- 54:16the padres need it to be. That's that's the concern I have with them
- 54:22is that, you know, so they're gonna want what three top one hundred
- 54:24prospects or something. It's gonna be a crazy asking price and will like do
- 54:30the I should have looked before. But do the Yankees have that? Do
- 54:34the do the? I mean, I'm pretty sure the Dodgers do, But
- 54:37do they have enough of that capital? And are they not gonna be the
- 54:40ones to get Otani? That's the concern I have with the soda market is
- 54:45that they might be sorely disappointed what they can actually get for him. Yeah,
- 54:51you know who actually the perfect candidate for the trade that lines up to
- 54:53be It's the Cubs. It is the Cubs have a loaded system and this
- 54:59is a perfect boop for them they need another outfielder. Yeah, it's very
- 55:04possible. I think you're right. You can see a deal around like Pete
- 55:08Crow Armstrong and maybe Matt Mervis and I don't know. They have a few
- 55:15number of you good young pictures that they could put into that mix, like
- 55:19I Hayden was new Ski or something like that. You could see the guys
- 55:22right on the border being the guys that they want to pull over. Sojavey
- 55:27Rossad there's a number of guys over there in Chicago that could make that interesting.
- 55:30So either way, Wan Sodo generational talent. The only thing keeping him
- 55:37out of that first round has nothing to do with who he's playing for.
- 55:39It has everything to do with the like speed is the name of the game
- 55:43right now, and he actually had what twelve steals last year, but he's
- 55:46still like the bottom third of the league as far as actual sprint speed.
- 55:50He's not a terribly fast guy. He's like the Albert Pools of based Steelers.
- 55:54Like, he's really smart. He makes the most out of it,
- 55:58and you know, he probably will still give you ten to fifteen steals,
- 56:01but he's not gonna he's not gonna go twenty twenty for you, at least
- 56:07I don't think he will. No. I mean, he does have a
- 56:08midpick of nine. So there are still the believers out there that one SODA's
- 56:15going to be solidly in the second round. And I think he, like
- 56:17I said, he could creep up to that one two turn right, and
- 56:21he's a fantastic second round pick right to pair with somebody that might have a
- 56:24little average difficulty, you know, might have might have crazy upside for a
- 56:30number of other reasons, you might want to pair a Soda with him,
- 56:34because Soto has one of the highest floors in the league. And then we've
- 56:39got a couple of kind of clusters of other guys that we're going to look
- 56:43at. The first is a trio of pitchers that come from the list,
- 56:46and the first one is Corbyn Burns from the Milwaukee Brewers, who is again
- 56:52on the trade block, and I think another guy who honestly, I would
- 56:57put him almost at eighty to ninety percent with Moon Soto and my mind,
- 57:00because the Brewers are clearly starting to dismantle and tear things down a little bit
- 57:05to reset after Council has left, so I think Burns is probably leaving,
- 57:09and especially with Brandon Woodruff being out for who knows how long with that shoulder
- 57:15injury. The Brewers know that they've got to get Burns traded before he also
- 57:22blows out. And I think here that this is a good opportunity for Burns
- 57:28to maybe find some fresh life, find a new team, and especially if
- 57:31you're in a five by five traditional roto league, maybe even eke out a
- 57:37few more wins just because like the Brewers were solid, but they weren't,
- 57:40you know, top of the line, really great at providing him wins.
- 57:45And you know they might he might end up with a team that really wants
- 57:50to ride him a little bit harder because they're not going to worry about those
- 57:52free agent years. So, brew what do you think about Burns and whether
- 57:58or not he's going to get traded and maybe any landing spots that you can
- 58:00think of. Yeah, I think of all the guys that we're going to
- 58:06talk about, I think Corbyn Burns is probably the most likely to to be
- 58:10moved. It just makes so much sense for him to no one year left.
- 58:16Clearly, the Brewers are retooling, we'll just use that term for them.
- 58:22They're they're retooling. He is gonna be probably the best h pitcher on
- 58:29the trade market, and you know, he he just he's almost toiling at
- 58:35this point in Milwaukee. He just feels like that team having a kind of
- 58:39a rough second half. You know, he he could have done more,
- 58:44he just wasn't asked to do more. And so I think he is very
- 58:50very likely to get traded. As far as landing spots, you know,
- 58:55I I look at I think he's one of those who's gonna has the potential
- 58:59to be laying in the kind of an unconventional spot, not one of the
- 59:02big pockets, because the Brewers is gonna be looking for prospects, the team
- 59:07that's trading for Burns looking for He's actually still on a relatively reasonable contract fifteen
- 59:13million for next year, and so somewhere like Baltimore might be a good spot
- 59:21for him to land. Arizona another spot I could see him landing, And
- 59:27so I'm really looking at kind of mid tier teams is trying to make that
- 59:30push that has some good young prospects but also on a budget, is really
- 59:34where I think Corbyn Burns is most likely to end up. But I think
- 59:38there's extremely high likelihood that Corbyn Burns is wearing a different jersey next year,
- 59:45Yeah, and I agree. I mean, I think the other place I
- 59:46was thinking he could land is maybe San Francisco. That might make a little
- 59:51bit of sense to and I think it will depend on where he lands what
- 59:58his value is going to be. So if I am draft now, I'm
- 1:00:00not sure, or if you know, I'm drafting any time before, when
- 1:00:05kind of rosters are starting to get set and they're getting to spring training time,
- 1:00:08I'm thinking I would prefer other people around Burns. So he's currently going
- 1:00:14around the two three turn in NFBC data at twenty five. Other pitchers around
- 1:00:19him are Lose Castillo, who we expounded upon a couple episodes ago that honestly,
- 1:00:25maybe I would take Burns over Castillo, but I'd rather take any of
- 1:00:29these next three guys that are going after him, Zack Wheeler, Kevin Gossman,
- 1:00:34and Zach Gallon. I'd rather have those three guys over Burns just because
- 1:00:37of knowing their study situations. They're on good teams, and I you know,
- 1:00:44it would worry me if Burns ends up in the AL where he's you
- 1:00:46know, less familiar with the teams, and especially the AL East trying to
- 1:00:52go through that gauntlet that he's had a really relatively easy in the NL Central
- 1:00:58all of his career. So if he's not getting to carve up the Pirates
- 1:01:00and the bygone pre Eli Reds and even the Cardinals last year, you know,
- 1:01:07some of these kind of stinker teams that it's it could be a little
- 1:01:10bit more of a dicey situation for him. Yeah, I tend to agree.
- 1:01:15I would say I think Burns is probably going too early, but I
- 1:01:20think also the other guys you listed are probably going to early as well.
- 1:01:24And I think there is this really there's a for next year's pitching. There's
- 1:01:29like a very high top few like the Striders and Coal, and then after
- 1:01:34that it's just like, don't touch pitching for a little while because the guys
- 1:01:37that are that you're paying as your number ones all have some kind of concern
- 1:01:40and so you know, I probably take Burns or Gosspil myself. But yeah,
- 1:01:44to your point, Wheeler probably take Wheeler over Burns. So I think
- 1:01:49kind of in the right the right area at this point, But just in
- 1:01:52general, I think that he's that the pitching of that caliber is going a
- 1:01:55little too high and drafts next year. Yeah, yeah, okay, And
- 1:02:00then so we'll move on to our next picture, and that is Dylan Cease
- 1:02:04of the White Sox, who came off a really, really rough twenty twenty
- 1:02:08two that he ended up putting up a four to fifty eighty RA over one
- 1:02:13hundred and seventy seven innings. His K nine dipped to ten point eight and
- 1:02:20he went seven to nine on the season for a really poor Socks team that
- 1:02:23was coming off of a near cy Young Awards season in twenty twenty two with
- 1:02:30a two point two ERA over one hundred and eighty four eatings with an eleven
- 1:02:34point one K nine, So that's a huge drop off. And the whip
- 1:02:37also bloomed last year to one four to two after being one to eleven and
- 1:02:43twenty twenty two. So I don't think we're ever going to see twenty twenty
- 1:02:46two Dylan Cease. It was a weird, magical time that all he was
- 1:02:51doing was going fastball slider like Robbie Ray that there's only so long you can
- 1:02:55ride that. But the talent is certainly way better than that four p fifty
- 1:03:00eight year Ray that I would expect him to get. Maybe closer to Steamer
- 1:03:07has him for a four thirteen, but I think he can get back below
- 1:03:09four. And this is a guy that, compared to some of the others
- 1:03:13where we may be a little worried about where the landing spot is, getting
- 1:03:16Dilan Ceas out of Chicago and away from the White Sox organization is the best
- 1:03:22thing that could happen to him. He is a right handed Robbie Ray where
- 1:03:27he's a two pitch pitcher, but the pitches are nasty and if he honestly,
- 1:03:31it's a little bit like a Spencer Strider light when he's going right,
- 1:03:36and he's got the mustache and the mound presence, and so that mound presence
- 1:03:40is what drove him to that twenty twenty two that getting on a new team
- 1:03:45where he can rejuvenate himself, I think would be the best thing for Dylan
- 1:03:49Cees. Yeah. I tend to agree. He's the one guy that you
- 1:03:52look at and he's been a little unlucky things like that. But if he
- 1:03:58lands with one of those teams that really seems like they know what to do
- 1:04:00with pictures, he's really interesting. But besides that, I wouldn't touch Dylan
- 1:04:06Ce's with a ten foot pole. But I think he is one of those
- 1:04:11that there's more in the name because of that twenty twenty two season he had
- 1:04:15had, even in the twenty twenty one season that he had with all the
- 1:04:17strikeouts, there's more in the name than there is in the resume right now.
- 1:04:23And I think that folks are going to overpay for him, especially if
- 1:04:25they go to he goes to a you know, a big, big name
- 1:04:29team, somebody pays big dollars for him from a prospect perspective and brings him
- 1:04:33over. You know, he lands in Boston, or he lands in I
- 1:04:36don't know where, it's Chicago, he goes with the Mets, he lands
- 1:04:41on those teams, I think he's gonna get some helium, way more than
- 1:04:44he deserves. And yeah, was he a little unlucky twenty three, Yes
- 1:04:47he was. Was his velocity down, yes, it was his walks up,
- 1:04:53Yes, it was like it wasn't just bad luck. There was some
- 1:04:57warning signs. But with any team. But if any player that has mishandling
- 1:05:01potentially on one team and could get a handled better on another team, that's
- 1:05:04that's Dylan cease. But unless he lands, like I said, with Tampa
- 1:05:09or Cleveland or Houston or something like that, who seems like they know what
- 1:05:12they're doing with pictures. I'm probably gonna be staying away from from Dylan Cease
- 1:05:16for the foreseeable future. Yeah, and honestly, his draft position is much
- 1:05:23higher than I would have anticipated coming off of that four fifty eight year array
- 1:05:27last year. That ceases the one hundred and six pitcher off the board.
- 1:05:30Other pictures in this range starting at pick one hundred are Kyle Bradish, Joe
- 1:05:36Ryan Walker, Bueler, Joe Musgrove, Hunter Green, Tanner, Biby.
- 1:05:44So he's in a pretty wrong Sorry, I'm just wrong. He should not
- 1:05:47be there. Yeah, he is. I would take every single one of
- 1:05:50those other guys over Dylan ce and you could probably go down that list another
- 1:05:55fifty picks, and I'm still happy with with what I'm getting exactly. And
- 1:05:59it is like Cole Reagan's is at one nineteen that people are already pricing in
- 1:06:05him moving. So I would agree that like that is a very steep price
- 1:06:10for Dylan Cease. And unless he's really starting to fall because things just don't
- 1:06:16seem to be cooking with a white Sox trade, it's gonna take quite a
- 1:06:21bit of slippage from that draft position for me to be in on Dylan Seas
- 1:06:26as well. Yeah, I mean, I just let he's on the top
- 1:06:28fifty pitchers overall and just going down pictures that you can have for a much
- 1:06:33better price after him, and they all have works. Don't get me wrong,
- 1:06:36Max Sureser, We're not sure what we're gonna get, but I would
- 1:06:41take Max sures Or over Dylan Seas because if he's healthy in pitching, he's
- 1:06:45definitely outperforming. And for the Rangers, yep, Sonny Gray, Merril,
- 1:06:49Kelly Bailey, ober Nathan Uvaldi, you have you know, I even take
- 1:07:00you Darvish over him if it was it was me, a Clayton Kershaw.
- 1:07:04You know Kershaw, he only might pitch half the season, but when he
- 1:07:06does, he's gonna be fabulous. So I think that there is there's something
- 1:07:11being priced in there already, whether it's the upside or the move, that
- 1:07:15his price point is way way too high at this point. And yeah,
- 1:07:20let's get into the next guy who you kind of skipped over in terms of
- 1:07:24like the slippage that was by design, That was by design. As I
- 1:07:27was watching you slipped down the NFBC rankings, and this guy's at one forty
- 1:07:31six right now. It is Shane Bieber, Guardians pitcher, so EXI young
- 1:07:36winner, coming off shoulder issues from last year, coming off a really tough
- 1:07:43season. And I think I've never been a purely big Shane Bieber guy,
- 1:07:49and this year was the first year I ever owned him in a league and
- 1:07:54it backfired so badly. So I apologize for that because I've never been on
- 1:08:00board with just the lack of the strikeouts and the Shane Bieber profile. The
- 1:08:05and obviously it peaked in twenty twenty at fourteen point two that it was just
- 1:08:11a magical run, but that was twelve starts and it just even it's kind
- 1:08:17of blowing my mind that he even put up a twelve point four K nine
- 1:08:21and twenty twenty one, although that came within injuries as well. So Ever,
- 1:08:27since that twenty twenty one Shane Bieber has really struggled to find the strikeout
- 1:08:32groove again, as he's put up in twenty twenty two and twenty twenty three
- 1:08:38combined. Me, you can do this on fangrafts, so I'm gonna highlight
- 1:08:42it real fast. He's had a three twenty four earra with over three hundred
- 1:08:45and twenty eight innings with an eight point three K nine. So that is
- 1:08:49really I mean. Shane Bieber was traditionally being drafted in second and third rounds.
- 1:08:55He was a pretty hefty price pitcher. So I think this might actually
- 1:09:00be a spot where there is a chance to get some value because he's going
- 1:09:06real late. He is, and that's part of what it treats me about
- 1:09:11Shane Bieber here. He's not the Shane Bieber of the first and second round
- 1:09:15type talent. And I've been a long time Shane Bieber fan club cardholder here,
- 1:09:19so when I look at him, he has the things that I look
- 1:09:24for in a picture. Doesn't walk a lot of guys, has a high
- 1:09:28ground ball rate and generally keeps the ball in the ballpark right. And he
- 1:09:36has also the type of profile that generally outplays all the advanced metrics, so
- 1:09:42he's always doing better than his his x EIRA. He's generally doing better than
- 1:09:47his fifth is kind of what he profiled does. But his velocity the last
- 1:09:54few years has really dropped off, and I have to think that he's been
- 1:10:00pitching hurt to a degree, and we know He's been in and out,
- 1:10:03especially this last year in and out with with injuries, and so I think
- 1:10:06that there if he is healthy and that k rate can come back into the
- 1:10:12mid eights or even up to nine. He's an absolute steal at that point.
- 1:10:17The problem being where does he land. That's I think what really,
- 1:10:20you know, going like you're leaving one of those pitching factories, and I
- 1:10:25think there's a I mean, he's prime in the model of spit him out.
- 1:10:29You know, the Cleveland loves to build these pitchers up and then ship
- 1:10:32them out when they get expensive. They got they got replacements, They've got
- 1:10:35plenty of other guys in it. So I think you're right. He he
- 1:10:40does fit well, he's got I don't think he's going to be a guy
- 1:10:43that completely bombs on you. I think he has some upside. And so
- 1:10:46the point in the draft where he's going, I think it's really really interesting
- 1:10:51because you compare him to like the guys right before him, Chris Bassett and
- 1:10:56Gavin Williams. I'm taking Shane Bieber all day. You have to go down
- 1:11:00the list after that, Kristin Havier Merril, Kelly Mitch Keller, Josey Barrios.
- 1:11:04Yeah, I'm taking Shane Bieber. Sure, I'm a Bailey over also
- 1:11:10a cardholder actually sit on the board of that fin club. But there's other
- 1:11:15guys that I might take over over Bieber. But it's being priced in pretty
- 1:11:21well. But what's really interesting from the draft results is the spread on shame.
- 1:11:28Have you've seen inane? Yeah, so how you go ahead? Go
- 1:11:30ahead? Since you were already there before I got there, go ahead.
- 1:11:32And he's got a min pick of sixty eight and a high of two forty
- 1:11:35five that I think it shows a lot of like those concerns and those flags
- 1:11:42the are here that and I was mistaken. It wasn't a shoulder he went
- 1:11:45down with. It was a right elbow inflammation that ended his season. So
- 1:11:50that's got quite a few red, yellow, orange, all sorts of bad
- 1:11:55flags. But the thing with Bieber I think going into this offseason will be
- 1:12:01if he does move, it shows some amount of health, because whoever is
- 1:12:08looking at those medicals when they trade for him are okay with it enough to
- 1:12:13go through with the trades. So I think that might cause his price to
- 1:12:18to you know, bump up, and but he'll still have his detractors because
- 1:12:23people are going to be worried about that elbow. And I do think it's
- 1:12:27so late, you know, in the one fifties that if that is where
- 1:12:30he truly does go and drafts, I will probably end up with you know,
- 1:12:34a share or to just because it starts to get so late that.
- 1:12:39I mean there's leagues that I took a shot on de Gram at the number,
- 1:12:45like in the second round last year, and that was way more risky
- 1:12:47than this that at this point, you're getting into territory where you know,
- 1:12:51people are drafted white at Langford and starting to put their stakes in the ground
- 1:12:56that Shin Bieber is not going to kill you at this price. No,
- 1:13:00he absolutely not. And when you're I mean you're literally talking, what's that
- 1:13:03the twelfth round? Like if you miss on the twelfth round pick, that's
- 1:13:11fine, Like it's not that big of a deal. And I don't think
- 1:13:14with Shane Bieber, a miss on him isn't like he's not useful to a
- 1:13:19degree. He's still a middle mid rotation guy that can eat some Indians and
- 1:13:25just solid whip, solid e RA a little low on the strikeouts, so
- 1:13:29he's still got really good value even if you take him there. But the
- 1:13:31upside, there's a difference between to me, to a guy that has been
- 1:13:35there before and done it, versus a guy that you hope will do it.
- 1:13:40Like Bieber's been there, He's been top of the of the pitching echelon
- 1:13:45number one pitcher debate, and so it's not inconceivable that he can get back
- 1:13:53there. He has a good offseason, gets healthy, gets a little bulk
- 1:13:56up, and velosity jumps back up a few ticks. He goes to drive
- 1:13:59line that just solves everything for everybody, and you know, he could easily
- 1:14:03get there again, versus you might be grabbing a different guy around him hoping,
- 1:14:09you know, let's just look at the guy after him in the in
- 1:14:12draft, Jordan Montgomery. I don't think Jordan Montgomery ever has a chance of
- 1:14:16being the true number one from a fantasy perspective, challenging him in the top
- 1:14:23five overall starting pictures, I just don't see it in that profile. Bieber
- 1:14:28cut I'm not saying it's gonna happen. I'm not. I'm saying the odds
- 1:14:30are low, like we're talking five ten percent odds here, But like I
- 1:14:33said, if he ends up a drive line, I'm drafting them all day
- 1:14:35at that price. Yeah. And I think part of it too is that
- 1:14:41usually in that point the draft, I'm such a builder of like trying to
- 1:14:45bring up my floor a bit early in drafts, except for obviously when I
- 1:14:48was talking about you know, yeah, but that I'm usually trying to bank
- 1:14:58that early on so that I can take shot like this in the tenth round
- 1:15:01and beyond. And you know, if Shane Bieber does flame out and his
- 1:15:05elbows busted, like you can prepare for that and have things ready, so
- 1:15:11it's not going to kill you at that price. And yeah, I like
- 1:15:14it. So let's get into the next cluster of guys. We got two
- 1:15:18second basement here or middle infielders. I mean, I don't know when one
- 1:15:24of them is last played shortstop. But the first guy we got is Jonathan
- 1:15:28India from the Reds and he is on the trade block here as the Reds
- 1:15:32have a very crowded infield and more players on the way from their minor league
- 1:15:38system. Jonathan India is getting closer and closer free agency and has just really
- 1:15:43started to fade since his Rookie of the Year campaign that last year he also
- 1:15:47battled Plantar fasciitis and only got in one hundred and nineteen games to the tune
- 1:15:54of a two forty four average with seventeen homers and fourteen stone bases that came
- 1:15:59with seven it runs sixty one RBI, and he was only just an average
- 1:16:03hitter overall, only a ninety nine WRC plus with minus defense. So he's
- 1:16:10also just kind of turned into a baseball player. So I can see why
- 1:16:14the Reds want to find a more interesting option. So it might not take
- 1:16:17too much to get the Reds to trade Jonathan Indiana town and with second base
- 1:16:24being so shallow this year, I mean, I think India will still play
- 1:16:30a role in a lot of drafts. So Brew, what do you think
- 1:16:32a trade could do for India and his draft overall or draft value overall.
- 1:16:38Yeah, I think he's one of the guys that, in a weird way,
- 1:16:41is probably is the most benefic It's one of the most benefits from being
- 1:16:44traded. He was getting crowded out of that infield, and to be honest,
- 1:16:48there's just not a lot of playing room for us. And I wouldn't
- 1:16:51say that he's he's been dreadful with his results, but he's not He's not
- 1:16:58Elie dela Cruz, He's not a Cees, he's not Matt McClain, he's
- 1:17:02not Spencer Steer, like, let's the list keeps going from vel Marte like,
- 1:17:06he isn't those guys. But yet he's still a pretty it's a pretty
- 1:17:13solid major league player. You know, it's not out of the realm to
- 1:17:18say that he could go twenty twenty. I don't know that he's gonna He's
- 1:17:23more like a fifteen to fifteen type of guy. But he's he's not gonna
- 1:17:29hurt you. He's gonna, you know, get on base at a pretty
- 1:17:32reasonable clip. He's gonna have he's gonna be relatively affordable in drafts, And
- 1:17:40so I think he's one of those guys that getting out of Cincinnati is really
- 1:17:44gonna be the best thing for him, because he's gonna go to another team
- 1:17:47and probably get a better chance to hit towards the top of the lineup,
- 1:17:51gets to score some more runs, and I think a fresh start's gonna help
- 1:17:55him. And none of this is based on statistics, right, This is
- 1:17:58all out scenario for him, and I think he has the gritst upside of
- 1:18:03a lot of the players that we're talking about. Yeah, and I think
- 1:18:09I'm a little bit more down on him than you are, just because this
- 1:18:13is two straight years of just really mid production overall that you know, I
- 1:18:19for some reason, I haven't built up as like a batting average guy in
- 1:18:23my head. But he's a career two fifty five hitter. He has hit
- 1:18:28two forty four and two forty nine the past couple of years. And if
- 1:18:31I'm getting like a fifteen fifteen sort of guy at his point in the draft,
- 1:18:36it's a little bit later than Bieber he's currently going at. Let me
- 1:18:42see, I lost him. It's one going two. Yep, he's kind
- 1:18:45of a it's like a fifteenth round type of guy. So yeah, as
- 1:18:49I'm thricing him, and that's what I'm thinking about, is if you can
- 1:18:53get a guy that can maybe hit two sixty two seventy, if you squint
- 1:18:57and hit go fifteen to fifteen, and that point of the draft, I'm
- 1:19:00not I'm okay with it. Yeah, I mean I think I need a
- 1:19:04little more ceiling on the counting stats. If I'm going to take that batting
- 1:19:11like that, that's a lower batting average than like it feels like, especially
- 1:19:15because when you're looking at some of these am I's and infielders that are going
- 1:19:21in this range. You've also got likes of Trevor Story. Definitely would rather
- 1:19:27have Story Gorman love Story. Yeah, Gorman. I'm a bit of a
- 1:19:31Homer, but I think I might think about that over India just because of
- 1:19:35the upside and the homers there. Billy Adamas. I would definitely take Williadamas
- 1:19:41over India. You've got Jackson Holliday down here, like that's really fun Atward
- 1:19:46Julian. I love Edward Julian, So it's a little bit more of like,
- 1:19:50I'm just not really quite an India guy that like, if I was
- 1:19:55able to pay for a two fifty average in like twelve twelve, I think
- 1:20:00I would be in. But that's not really the price that's usually at the
- 1:20:02table and the plantar FASTI iis that he battled last year. I that that's
- 1:20:11kind of like the nail and the coffin of being out, because that is
- 1:20:15not a fun injury to deal with, and it nags and it's not something
- 1:20:18that goes away unless there's like rest and rehab. To a really significant extent,
- 1:20:24that between him and Carl's career this year that I want to see those
- 1:20:30players be healthy before I start taking any shares of them again. And I
- 1:20:33know maybe I'll miss out on some great upside, but I have a feeling
- 1:20:38that the plantar fasti iis is going to sap a lot of like what happens
- 1:20:42going forward with both of them. Yeah, so it'll be it'll be interested
- 1:20:45to see. I think I know that I said that Burns is very likely
- 1:20:51to be traded. I think that India's right right there, right right there
- 1:20:57with him. He just doesn't have a spot to play in Cincinnati, So
- 1:21:00I think we'll be talking about him again once he finds his new home for
- 1:21:08next year. Yeah, exactly. And then the other trade candidate we wanted
- 1:21:13to talk about was who I alluded to earlier hasn't played shorts time a long
- 1:21:17time. That is Second Baseman labor tours from the New York Yankees, who
- 1:21:24I think it's just more so of like he just needs to change his scenery,
- 1:21:27and the Yankees are just kind of tired of him being there. They're
- 1:21:30ready to move on to Volpie and Parraza and hand over the reins from Torres
- 1:21:36to the next kind of wave of guys that Torres had a pretty solid season
- 1:21:42in twenty twenty three for the Yankees. He put up twenty five homers with
- 1:21:45a two seventy three average That came with ninety runs and sixty eight ribs and
- 1:21:49thirteen stone bases, which were really frontloaded. I remember that he went like
- 1:21:55crazy the first couple of weeks and then stopped stealing. But he also cut
- 1:21:59his his k rate a lot to fourteen point six after being a career let
- 1:22:08me check it real fast. Has entered with a career k rate of twenty
- 1:22:14one point nine, so he almost cut it, you know, seven points.
- 1:22:17He also entered with a walk rate of eight point six and got a
- 1:22:21ten percent walk rate this year, so he showed a lot better I in
- 1:22:26his twenty six year season, his age twenty six season. So it's kind
- 1:22:32of funny that the Yankees want to even move on from him because he's probably
- 1:22:38like the most athletic player that they have. But brew, what do you
- 1:22:42think about, like where the future could go for glabor tours and what could
- 1:22:47be a great lending spot for him? Yeah, I really struggle with labor
- 1:22:51tours. I've never really been that big on him. He was like one
- 1:22:55of those guys that every year he figures one thing out and then forgets everything
- 1:22:59else he learned. I don't know if that's really fair, but like he
- 1:23:02hits for power one year, that the next two years he can't scround more
- 1:23:06than ten. He hits for average, then it kind of falls off.
- 1:23:10This year he learned to have some plate approach some patients. Is that gonna
- 1:23:15stick. I don't know. It seems like he's really struggled to find consistency.
- 1:23:20But to your point, it's actually one of the most interesting hitters that
- 1:23:23the Yankees have, and so it's like for years I was like, yeah,
- 1:23:27we should get rid of this guy, and now he finally feels like
- 1:23:29he's maybe coming into who he actually really is, which is kind of a
- 1:23:31mid level player. Don't expect too much and you might be happy, and
- 1:23:36they're looking to move him, so I unfortunately, I do think pretty much
- 1:23:42anywhere Torres goes is going to be a downgrade because he is leaving a pretty
- 1:23:47good ballpark for you know, his his swing. You know, he does
- 1:23:53get a decent number of home runs over that short right field porch for the
- 1:24:00Yankees. I'm trying to look last year you know, Baseball Savannah does their
- 1:24:06wonderful ex home run, and he was kind of right on that. But
- 1:24:12the percent of no doubters is for him has traditionally not been the highest.
- 1:24:16Last year was sixteen percent. This year was actually thirty two percent. But
- 1:24:20he's just he's one of those guys that's just not destroying them out of the
- 1:24:26ballpark, and he could end up in another ballpark like Boston or Baltimore,
- 1:24:32San Francisco, Kansas City, some of those that just aren't going to play
- 1:24:36nearly as well for him. I'm not saying those are the teams that he's
- 1:24:40going to go to, but he has taken advantage of Yankee Stadium and just
- 1:24:45the complete lack of consistency he's had in his career just leaves something to be
- 1:24:51desired, and he's probably gonna be as good of a lineup, so he's
- 1:24:54not gonna have as much protection that he has had in the past. So
- 1:24:58I think it is regardless of where he goes, and I don't have a
- 1:25:02great prediction of a landing spot for Torres, I think it's going he's gonna
- 1:25:08get a boost of value because folks are going to hear his name and see
- 1:25:12him, and I think it's going to actually be the end versus what he
- 1:25:15actually probably deserves. So I don't know, what are you about you?
- 1:25:17Where are you on Torres? I'm a little higher in India, a little
- 1:25:20lower on Torres. Potentially here, I think I'm the opposite. I think
- 1:25:25I'm a little bit higher because I think his line from Steamer, I think
- 1:25:30is really fair. It's pegged for twenty five homers at a two seventy average,
- 1:25:33with mid eighties runs and RBI with midteen stolen bases. That's what he's
- 1:25:41been for the past, like when he's been healthy, like he was out
- 1:25:45for a little bit in twenty twenty one, but that's pretty much an average
- 1:25:47of his twenty twenty two and twenty twenty three seasons. That he's going into
- 1:25:51his age twenty seven season, he's right there, like at the tail end
- 1:25:55of this prime that I think he's you can just almost set it and forget
- 1:25:59it at that And even if he leaves New York, like sure the park
- 1:26:05will be a downgrade, but he's out of the pressure cooker of that media
- 1:26:09situation. He's actually I think going to enter a better lineup. We covered
- 1:26:15this a little bit in the free agency piece last week, the Yankees lineup
- 1:26:17is garbage and it was last year. Yeah, And so like there's a
- 1:26:23reason he only put up sixty eight ribs, and I think he can get
- 1:26:28back up into that eighty level range if he leaves. So he's currently going
- 1:26:32actually right around Dylan Cees and Traps at pick one oh two in range of
- 1:26:40a bunch of other guys that I like that. You know, this is
- 1:26:43a nice range to start picking up hitters to round out your lineup in terms
- 1:26:47of you've got like Alex Bregman going around here, Spencer Steer, Tristan Cassas,
- 1:26:53Bryson Stott, guys that are just kind of putting up production for you
- 1:26:58in terms of lots of different categories, playing every day, playing in the
- 1:27:02top third of lineups. So I think Glaber is pretty much perfectly priced there
- 1:27:10that you can take that Steamer line and take a little of risk off of
- 1:27:16like ear draft board if you're looking at Glabor in that price range. So
- 1:27:20I've always kind of liked Labor because he also he's just a solid hitter you
- 1:27:26can like tell when you watch him, and I like that he's rounding out
- 1:27:29his batting eye with you know, the k rate cut didn't come with a
- 1:27:32significant drop in his overall hard hit rate the way it did for Cody Bellinger,
- 1:27:36and he's just a pretty solid line drive hitter. Yeah, it's gonna
- 1:27:42be really interesting because I just don't have the same buy into to Labor that
- 1:27:45you do. And I look at the other guys around him, looking at
- 1:27:49Tristan Casas Lane, Thomas Spencer, Torkelsen, George Springer is going almost two
- 1:27:57three rounds later than him. You've got Volpe, You've got Anthony's Santander,
- 1:28:03Tasker Hernandez. You've got guys that I would much rather have than Labor.
- 1:28:10Torres going two three, five rounds later than him, And so it is.
- 1:28:13It's interesting. It's like maybe it's one of those years that a Glabor
- 1:28:15guy or you're not. And I just the inconsistency I've seen from him throughout
- 1:28:21his career just does not give me the face that, yes, he was
- 1:28:25a better hit of this last year. I just don't. I don't know
- 1:28:28that he can maintain it, that's my concern. It seems like he's always
- 1:28:31trying to learn relearn what he had did the previous year. So I think
- 1:28:38we'll have to put a bet onto Glabor Torres going to next year because you'll
- 1:28:43own all the shares if we're in the same league, because I will not
- 1:28:45have any of them. Yeah, and it might be a little bit of
- 1:28:49a function of how shallow second base is, although and I think it's a
- 1:28:56cliff thing too, although this probably isn't gonna stick. Like the two guys
- 1:29:00that go behind him are are stat at one oh eight, which makes sense,
- 1:29:03and then to tell Martea one twenty two, which seems too feels really
- 1:29:08low, feels really low for yeah, that I think that one's gonna shoot
- 1:29:14up a bit. But then there's a cliff, Like then you're starting to
- 1:29:15talk about Andre Semenez and Zach Geloff and guys with some pretty big wartz tyro
- 1:29:23strata that second base that there's a little bit of a cliff, and maybe
- 1:29:28that's why Torres kit goes there. You're right there, there is a really
- 1:29:31good because like that after the top ten, it really seems to drop off.
- 1:29:34And then there's there's guys with potential, but again they all have their
- 1:29:39works of some degree and and like I said, with Glaber, Glaber's got
- 1:29:45just like you can pretty much set it and forget it for mid twenties.
- 1:29:48Homer's mid teen stolen bases with like a two seventy average. So that's a
- 1:29:53factor there too, is like you just want that production sometimes, and if
- 1:29:57you've taken maybe some bigger shots before you got to labor and need a second
- 1:30:00basement, it might drive a little bit of people trying to take him there
- 1:30:03from a strategy, Yeah, it's that. You're right. I think his
- 1:30:09ADP may be just driven solely by the position getting so thin because you don't
- 1:30:15you really do not want to get out of so you're insane. A twelfeam
- 1:30:17League number thirteen. Let's just go thirteen through twenty Fio Estrada, Tommy Edmund
- 1:30:27Luis, Ariya's India, Nolan Gorman, Edward Hulan, Ryan McMahon, Brandan
- 1:30:31Drewy like nothing. I mean, there's a few guys like yeah, it's
- 1:30:35interesting or I wouldn't mind having them, but there's nobody's like, yes,
- 1:30:40that's that's what I want as my starting second basement. That's the well I
- 1:30:45think I can get by with this. I hope it works out type of
- 1:30:48group. So there, you're absode right, there's a cliff there, So
- 1:30:51I will give you the win on that that announce. Yep, for sure.
- 1:30:56It is something that I'm really tracking. Like second base is a weird
- 1:30:59position because it's gonna really make you think about Mooki at the number one pick
- 1:31:04because it is such a funky, shallow position that like it's you struggle to
- 1:31:12find somebody that you like there honestly, Yeah, no kidding, I mean
- 1:31:15hate. An interesting strategy is drafting all second basement to start off, have
- 1:31:20yourself a Mookie, come back with an old two ve, grab yourself like
- 1:31:26a haw Song Kim and a Matt McClain, and just take four of the
- 1:31:30great second basement in the first like you know, five rounds and just leave
- 1:31:34everybody else to the druthers having to work through that. So vindictive drafting.
- 1:31:41That's that's my style. That is Yeah, I'm looking forward to getting into
- 1:31:45a draft with you that you did that. So brew let's uh, let's
- 1:31:47wrap it up here for the week that Yeah, we were not gonna go
- 1:31:51quite as deep as the ten from last week. We'll cut it off here
- 1:31:54at the six. If you've got other guys that you're like from that MLB
