- 1:53Speaker 3: Happy Friday. Is it me or is everybody else? And
- 1:56Speaker 3: I'm gonna presume the answer to this is yes. Everybody
- 1:59Speaker 3: is trying to figure out what day of the week
- 2:01Speaker 3: it is. I mean, I worked Christmas Eve and it
- 2:04Speaker 3: did not work Christmas Day, but you know I came
- 2:06Speaker 3: back on Thursday yesterday, and I'm trying to figure out
- 2:10Speaker 3: what the heck day it is, but it is Friday,
- 2:13Speaker 3: that's where. And get used to it because you're gonna
- 2:15Speaker 3: have that next week as well. You know, I'll be
- 2:17Speaker 3: doing shows Monday and Tuesday at the no Show Wednesday
- 2:20Speaker 3: that I'm back on Thursday Friday. After that, though, things
- 2:24Speaker 3: should get back to normal, whatever normal is in the
- 2:27Speaker 3: world of radio or in your world. Coming up a
- 2:29Speaker 3: little bit later on, we are going to be talking
- 2:31Speaker 3: with Hannah Gardner from the Gnaella Charleston Humaine Association with
- 2:34Speaker 3: this week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week. We
- 2:36Speaker 3: are efforting to get a hold of miss Hannah as
- 2:39Speaker 3: we speak. Also, and I've talked about this before, but
- 2:43Speaker 3: there's a bit of a time crunch now for this
- 2:46Speaker 3: Night to Shine special Needs prom Now it's happening during
- 2:49Speaker 3: the month of February at the Capitol High School. Our
- 2:52Speaker 3: sister station V one hundred is heavily involved in this.
- 2:55Speaker 3: We're going to talk to one of the organizers and
- 2:56Speaker 3: she's been on the show in the past, Cordney Elswick
- 2:59Speaker 3: from from this very very worthwhile cause it's part of
- 3:02Speaker 3: the Tim Tebow Foundation, and it is a prom that's
- 3:06Speaker 3: designed for special needs folks, and it's happening at Capitol
- 3:11Speaker 3: High School, but it can be for any special needs
- 3:15Speaker 3: folks regardless of age, across the valley. And so there's
- 3:18Speaker 3: a reason though we're having Courtney on today because there's
- 3:21Speaker 3: a time crunch they have to get to so many
- 3:22Speaker 3: people signed up in order to be able to have
- 3:25Speaker 3: the event, and I learned about it several months ago.
- 3:27Speaker 3: I think it's a very, very worthwhile event. So Courtney's
- 3:30Speaker 3: going to join us a little bit later on the
- 3:32Speaker 3: show to talk about as said, our sister Station V
- 3:34Speaker 3: one hundred is heavily heavily involved in this event, plus
- 3:38Speaker 3: your cause and texture welcome to pretty much the back
- 3:40Speaker 3: end of the show is going to be open for
- 3:42Speaker 3: anything you want to talk about, if you want to
- 3:44Speaker 3: call me or text me. I got all kinds of
- 3:46Speaker 3: things in the news I want to get into this morning,
- 3:48Speaker 3: including the West Virginia is not going to have four
- 3:51Speaker 3: governors in one day. That was a very real possibility
- 3:55Speaker 3: because of some things in the constitution, with Governor Justice
- 3:59Speaker 3: leaving office to go to Washington and then the incoming governor,
- 4:03Speaker 3: Patrick Morrissey, Governor elect current Attorney General Patrick Morrissey coming in,
- 4:07Speaker 3: there was a possibility we would actually have four governors.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Governor Justice has said no, that's not the case. He
- 4:14Speaker 3: and I'm gonna tell you why coming up a little
- 4:16Speaker 3: bit later on in the show. Plus there's some other
- 4:20Speaker 3: things I want to get to in the news as well.
- 4:22Speaker 3: As I said, we're working on Hannah Gardner. Don't know
- 4:25Speaker 3: whether we're gonna have Hannah now or not. Oh, by
- 4:26Speaker 3: the way, I do have a texture it says, lol,
- 4:29Speaker 3: don't feel bad, Dave. I kept thinking Christmas Day with Saturday.
- 4:31Speaker 3: So there you go.
- 4:32Speaker 5: I am not.
- 4:33Speaker 3: The only one, all right. So so I said, if
- 4:38Speaker 3: we get Hannah, we'll have her on the air. If not,
- 4:40Speaker 3: I can go ahead and tell you about the Adopt
- 4:41Speaker 3: Me Please Pet of the Week. There's a reason why
- 4:44Speaker 3: we do this stuff in advance. Our Adopt Me Please
- 4:46Speaker 3: pet of the Week's name is Cinderella, and I've got
- 4:51Speaker 3: Cinderella's picture posted at Dave Allen Radio and on Facebook
- 4:55Speaker 3: and at Dave A seventy on Twitter. Cinderella is a
- 4:57Speaker 3: one year old She is spade. She is microchipped and vaccinated.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Around forty three pounds, very gentle, Hannah tells me we
- 5:05Speaker 3: were texting back and forth last night about the dog.
- 5:08Speaker 3: A very gentle dog, a little bit on the bashful side.
- 5:11Speaker 3: The dog does walk well on a leash and seems
- 5:14Speaker 3: to prefer the company of other calmer dogs, very playful,
- 5:19Speaker 3: and it's if it's possible, and I think it is
- 5:22Speaker 3: for a pet to have a cute smile. Hannah tells
- 5:26Speaker 3: me that this dog, and you can see the picture
- 5:28Speaker 3: I've got it posted again on Davevillan Radio on Facebook
- 5:31Speaker 3: and at Dave a seventy on Twitter. You can see
- 5:33Speaker 3: that Cinderella does indeed have a very very cute smile.
- 5:37Speaker 3: So go check out Cinderella. As I said, I've get
- 5:41Speaker 3: Cinderella's picture posted on davevill On Radio on Facebook and
- 5:43Speaker 3: at day a seventy on Twitter again. One year old.
- 5:46Speaker 3: She is spade, microchipped and vaccinated, around forty three pounds,
- 5:51Speaker 3: very gentle and bashful, seems to walk well on a leash,
- 5:56Speaker 3: does well with other dogs provided that they are calmer
- 5:59Speaker 3: dog all right, so please note that so if you
- 6:01Speaker 3: got other dogs won't be an issue more than likely,
- 6:04Speaker 3: But she does prefer calmer dogs, it seems. And as
- 6:08Speaker 3: Hannah says, she has a very cute smile. I'll tell
- 6:11Speaker 3: you about some other things. Reading the story on the
- 6:16Speaker 3: Canal christ Humane Association's Facebook page. They have a dog,
- 6:19Speaker 3: and I think we may have featured this particular dog
- 6:22Speaker 3: in the past on the show, a dog by the
- 6:24Speaker 3: name of Peppermint Patty. Now Peppermint Patty. Not only I
- 6:29Speaker 3: mean it's one thing for a dog to get out.
- 6:31Speaker 3: We as we've all had pets, dogs, cats, whatever that
- 6:33Speaker 3: sometimes you know, can be escape artists. This dog, from
- 6:36Speaker 3: what I understand, not only escaped its pen so to speak.
- 6:43Speaker 3: It's it's a little kennel up at the shelter. It
- 6:45Speaker 3: escaped the shelter itself. It got out, went over the wall. Done,
- 6:50Speaker 3: I'm gone. And there's a picture posted on the social
- 6:54Speaker 3: media pages of the Canal Charleston Humane Association of the
- 6:57Speaker 3: Charleston Police Department bringing the dog back. So go, if
- 7:02Speaker 3: you get an opportunity today at some point, go over
- 7:04Speaker 3: to the Kanal Charleston New Mane Associations Facebook page and
- 7:07Speaker 3: check out the story of Peppermint Patty because this particular
- 7:10Speaker 3: dog apparently had had enough escape not only her kennel,
- 7:13Speaker 3: but also the entire shelter. Got out somehow Charleston p
- 7:17Speaker 3: D got involved. Peppermint Patty is back. Also, the folks
- 7:21Speaker 3: at the shelter. I know Hannah and I were going
- 7:23Speaker 3: to talk about this, but again we're having some issues
- 7:25Speaker 3: getting connected with HANDA. This morning, a lot of folks
- 7:28Speaker 3: donated Christmas items for the animals up at the shelter,
- 7:32Speaker 3: and I think that is an absolutely fantastic thing to do.
- 7:34Speaker 3: And I'm not exactly whether it's Hannah or Angie. I'm
- 7:37Speaker 3: not exactly who handles the social media for the Kannal
- 7:41Speaker 3: charlesty Man Association, but I will say this, they do
- 7:43Speaker 3: a fantastic job with it and there are pictures and
- 7:46Speaker 3: videos posted on there constantly. There is a picture posted
- 7:50Speaker 3: from a couple of days ago of the shelter pets
- 7:52Speaker 3: actually enjoying their Christmas gifts that were donated by other people. Now,
- 7:57Speaker 3: in talking to Hannah and Angie and the folks up
- 7:59Speaker 3: there couple days ago, there's still at critical levels as
- 8:02Speaker 3: far as their numbers go. Lots of people like to
- 8:04Speaker 3: come in and they will adopt pets for the Christmas
- 8:07Speaker 3: season heading into the new year. That is wonderful that
- 8:09Speaker 3: you do. That make sure you realize though that getting
- 8:11Speaker 3: a pet is a lifetime commitment, the lifetime of that pet.
- 8:15Speaker 3: So if you're not sure it's going to work out,
- 8:17Speaker 3: then probably you don't want to get you don't want
- 8:20Speaker 3: to adopt a pet. But they are at critical levels
- 8:22Speaker 3: up there. And Hannah and and Angiina folks tell me
- 8:25Speaker 3: that they have pretty much got animals stuck in offices
- 8:28Speaker 3: and everywhere up there. So I always say this, and
- 8:32Speaker 3: it's kind of anger some people from time to time
- 8:34Speaker 3: don't go to breeders. Don't go to breeders. Go to
- 8:37Speaker 3: an animal shelter, whether it's Kana, whether it's potting. Now
- 8:40Speaker 3: we got several in the area, all across the state
- 8:42Speaker 3: of West Virginia, and go get your pets there. All right,
- 8:46Speaker 3: that's my little editorial comment for the day. But Dave

- 9:04Speaker 3: for not having Hannah this morning, but I did. I
- 9:06Speaker 3: did my best, trying to trying to, you know, be
- 9:09Speaker 3: Hannah this morning.
- 9:10Speaker 5: Our dot me please.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Pet of the week photo posted Dave Alan Radio on
- 9:13Speaker 3: Facebook and at Dave a seventy on Twitter. It is Cinderella.
- 9:18Speaker 3: That's the dog's name. One year old spade, micro chip vaccinated,
- 9:22Speaker 3: bottom line, great family pet, ready to go home. Around
- 9:25Speaker 3: forty three pounds, Very gentle, can be a bit bashful,
- 9:29Speaker 3: does seem to walk well on the lease. Prefers the
- 9:31Speaker 3: company of calmer dogs. Very very playful, and Hannah says,

- 14:52Speaker 3: and then tomorrow I'll be at the South Charleston location
- 14:54Speaker 3: again starting at noon. We talked about this a few
- 14:58Speaker 3: weeks ago, happening at Capitol High School on February the seventh,
- 15:02Speaker 3: and it's hosted by the Southeast Church of the Nazarene
- 15:05Speaker 3: and it's part of the work that the Tim Tebow
- 15:08Speaker 3: Foundation does. It's called a Knight to Shine, and I
- 15:10Speaker 3: mentioned earlier and our sister station V one hundred is
- 15:13Speaker 3: heavily involved with this. Courtney Elswick is one of the
- 15:16Speaker 3: organizers of the event and she joins us again. Courtney,
- 15:18Speaker 3: good morning, Welcome to the show.
- 15:19Speaker 8: Good morning, Thank you for having me, Thank you.
- 15:21Speaker 5: For being here.
- 15:21Speaker 3: I know you've done kind of double duty today because
- 15:24Speaker 3: you are across the hall with Logan Scott on V
- 15:27Speaker 3: one hundred and telling the folks about it over there
- 15:31Speaker 3: across the hall. So we had you on a couple
- 15:33Speaker 3: of weeks ago. How are things progressing so far as
- 15:36Speaker 3: you plan for this big event.
- 15:38Speaker 9: We are getting ready to kind of go into our
- 15:41Speaker 9: really heavy.
- 15:42Speaker 3: Heavy workload, the heavy lifting this started.
- 15:44Speaker 8: Yeah, getting ready to start.
- 15:45Speaker 3: Okay, so talk about the whole idea behind the event.
- 15:49Speaker 9: Okay, So night to Shane was launched in twenty fourteen,
- 15:53Speaker 9: and the whole point of it was to work with
- 15:55Speaker 9: churches around the country to provide an unforgettable prom night
- 15:59Speaker 9: experiences centered on God's love for those individuals with special
- 16:03Speaker 9: needs ages fourteen and older.
- 16:05Speaker 3: And again, I do want to even though it's being
- 16:08Speaker 3: held at Capitol High School, this is not for Capital
- 16:11Speaker 3: High School. I mean, it can be for Capital High
- 16:13Speaker 3: School students obviously, but it's for any any person fourteen
- 16:16Speaker 3: and older. So somebody could be fifty years old and
- 16:19Speaker 3: come to this, right.
- 16:20Speaker 9: We have several individuals that are a little higher in age.
- 16:24Speaker 9: Very very few of our guests that have registered actually
- 16:27Speaker 9: would be under the age of eighteen.
- 16:28Speaker 8: Most are older than I am.
- 16:30Speaker 3: Okay, I need to talk about how I was gonna
- 16:32Speaker 3: say twenty twenty all right, I'm giving you a benefit,
- 16:34Speaker 3: give you a benefit of.
- 16:35Speaker 4: The doubt on that.
- 16:36Speaker 3: Thank you, and I think this is a very.
- 16:39Speaker 5: Very worthwhile event.
- 16:39Speaker 3: That's why, when you know you folks reached out to us,
- 16:42Speaker 3: I got you with Logan Scott, the program director over
- 16:44Speaker 3: V one hundred and sent ours. Our company as a
- 16:46Speaker 3: whole wants to be involved in this because sometimes the
- 16:51Speaker 3: folks that have and you can call it whatever you want.
- 16:54Speaker 3: You can call it disabilities are a little bit different
- 16:56Speaker 3: or whatever. They feel shut out of events so many
- 16:59Speaker 3: times because they don't get that opportunity. But you're giving them,
- 17:03Speaker 3: you folks, are giving them an opportunity, as you said,
- 17:06Speaker 3: a night to shine.
- 17:07Speaker 9: Absolutely, we want individuals to come and be celebrated for
- 17:10Speaker 9: the kings and queens that they are. We have We
- 17:13Speaker 9: have done everything and taking care of everything to make
- 17:16Speaker 9: this as inclusive as possible, as easily accessible as possible.
- 17:22Speaker 9: There were several venues that we actually tried to check
- 17:24Speaker 9: into that weren't even wheelchair accessible, bathrooms weren't handicap accessible.
- 17:30Speaker 9: Now these were private venues and such. So thankfully we
- 17:34Speaker 9: approach the school and everything is completely accessible there and
- 17:38Speaker 9: so they're letting us have it there. That way, there
- 17:39Speaker 9: is there's absolutely no reason that we cannot accommodate any individual.
- 17:44Speaker 3: Now the reason again the event is going to be
- 17:46Speaker 3: in February. But the reason that we've had you on
- 17:48Speaker 3: before and we've got you on again today is because
- 17:51Speaker 3: this is as you said, this is when the heavy
- 17:52Speaker 3: lifting begins, because you need a lot from the community
- 17:55Speaker 3: to pull this off.
- 17:56Speaker 9: Absolutely, our volunteer account is rising. We appreciate that so
- 18:01Speaker 9: very much. And again, volunteers can sign up up until
- 18:04Speaker 9: about the week before they do have to have a
- 18:06Speaker 9: background check done, and that's taking a few days to
- 18:09Speaker 9: kind of turn around to get to get that information
- 18:12Speaker 9: back that we need right now, we just really need
- 18:15Speaker 9: help spreading the word, getting it out there so that
- 18:17Speaker 9: we can get our guests count up. We have, you know,
- 18:20Speaker 9: a good bit of space that we want to fill.
- 18:23Speaker 9: We want to max out our capacity as much as possible.
- 18:26Speaker 3: How many people are we talking, I mean, I mean
- 18:28Speaker 3: what would be maximum for you?
- 18:30Speaker 5: Ideally?
- 18:31Speaker 9: So I would love to see our guests count one
- 18:34Speaker 9: hundred hundred and fifty at least just for our guests.
- 18:36Speaker 9: That's not including our volunteers, guests or the individuals with
- 18:39Speaker 9: special needs and disabilities. You know, we can accommodate potentially
- 18:43Speaker 9: more than that, but maybe our first run will go
- 18:46Speaker 9: get there, keep it small the first time around now
- 18:49Speaker 9: years on out. If I need a bigger place, or
- 18:51Speaker 9: if we need something, you know, a bigger venue, then
- 18:55Speaker 9: we'll absolutely make that happen. We don't want to turn
- 18:58Speaker 9: anyone down for any reason.
- 18:59Speaker 3: What's so, however, so where did this whole idea come from?
- 19:03Speaker 3: I mean somebody you and some of the other folks
- 19:04Speaker 3: are involved in it. You had to get this idea
- 19:06Speaker 3: and say, okay, this is going this would be an
- 19:08Speaker 3: awesome thing to bring to the Kanal Valley.
- 19:10Speaker 5: Where did you get the idea from?
- 19:12Speaker 9: So my pastor Bart Hodele approached me back in February
- 19:16Speaker 9: this past year and he threw a text, Hey, have
- 19:19Speaker 9: you heard about Night to Shine before?
- 19:21Speaker 8: Yeah? Do you know anything about it? And I said, well,
- 19:24Speaker 8: some basics.
- 19:24Speaker 9: Some of the girls that I work with, they've hosted
- 19:26Speaker 9: it or they've been a part of it at their church.
- 19:29Speaker 8: Said do you think we could do it? Well? Absolutely?
- 19:32Speaker 8: And my only question was can I be in charge?
- 19:36Speaker 5: Well, nothing wrong with that, somebody's got to do it right.
- 19:38Speaker 3: Usually it's the opposite. Usually people say, well I'll help out,
- 19:40Speaker 3: but I don't want to be the one with the clipboard.
- 19:42Speaker 5: I don't want to be the one in charge. Not Courtney.
- 19:44Speaker 3: Courtney jumps in and says, yeah, I'm the coach.
- 19:46Speaker 5: I can do this.
- 19:47Speaker 9: I do and my husband and my family are probably
- 19:49Speaker 9: ready to kill me.
- 19:50Speaker 3: I was gonna say, because you're going to drag your
- 19:51Speaker 3: husband into this and I know the way this works, yes.
- 19:54Speaker 9: But any reason for me to spreak it make a
- 19:56Speaker 9: spreadsheet makes my heart happy.
- 19:57Speaker 3: So any reason to make a spreadsheet, you're heart happy.
- 20:01Speaker 3: You're a unicorn and that I'll say that in that respect. Again,
- 20:05Speaker 3: we're talking with Courtney L's week about this event coming
- 20:07Speaker 3: up a Capital High school. It is a night to
- 20:09Speaker 3: shine and there is such a need for those in
- 20:13Speaker 3: the community to help with this, and so we have
- 20:17Speaker 3: you on to talk about it. Obviously, we want our
- 20:20Speaker 3: special guest to be there, those with disabilities and a
- 20:23Speaker 3: little disadvantage, but you got to have other folks to
- 20:27Speaker 3: be able to pull this off. Talk about the need
- 20:31Speaker 3: for those people who are we understand we they have
- 20:34Speaker 3: to undergrow a background check, which is understandable. They can
- 20:36Speaker 3: be student age, they could be a senior age, anybody
- 20:42Speaker 3: that wants to help out.
- 20:43Speaker 8: Yes, they can be.
- 20:45Speaker 9: So our volunteers are again just like our guests ages
- 20:47Speaker 9: fourteen and up. Every guest will be paired with an
- 20:51Speaker 9: individual with non special needs that will be their buddy
- 20:53Speaker 9: for the evening. That person will make sure that they
- 20:56Speaker 9: get where they want to go. If they want to
- 20:57Speaker 9: go to karaoke, they're going to make sure they get there.
- 21:00Speaker 9: If they just want to go eat, you know, they'll
- 21:02Speaker 9: make sure that their food is prepared the way that
- 21:05Speaker 9: they need it. We have several individuals that need things
- 21:07Speaker 9: cut up very small, or they can only eat certain
- 21:10Speaker 9: types of textures of food. Their buddy will make sure
- 21:13Speaker 9: that they are completely taken care of for the evening.
- 21:17Speaker 8: We also want the red carpet.
- 21:20Speaker 9: To be completely aligned with individuals just cheering our guests
- 21:23Speaker 9: on when they get there, snapping photos, you know, holding
- 21:26Speaker 9: up signs, just reassuring them that they're amazing, they're loved,
- 21:30Speaker 9: and that they're part of this community too.
- 21:33Speaker 3: So give me an idea of who some volunteers would be.
- 21:36Speaker 3: Maybe a business wants to get involved in this. I mean,
- 21:39Speaker 3: it'd be a great thing. I mentioned the first time
- 21:41Speaker 3: you were on that in West Virginia, high school senior
- 21:44Speaker 3: or high school students have to do so many hours
- 21:46Speaker 3: of community service in order to graduate. That's the rules
- 21:49Speaker 3: in West Virginia. You have to have so many hours
- 21:51Speaker 3: of community service. So it would be ideal for them
- 21:54Speaker 3: to do this. Civic groups, you know, your Kowanas, your
- 21:58Speaker 3: Lions Club, your rotaries, other church groups. I mean, there's
- 22:02Speaker 3: so many different different groups of people Courtney that could
- 22:06Speaker 3: help out with this.
- 22:07Speaker 9: Yes, again, we were gonna need a lot of manpower
- 22:10Speaker 9: to pull this off. This is going to be a
- 22:12Speaker 9: large event, the full catering for all decoration, DJ dance floor.
- 22:18Speaker 8: Karaoke, photo booth.
- 22:20Speaker 9: We're gonna need just help manning those stations, getting all
- 22:23Speaker 9: of that in there, tearing it all down. All of
- 22:26Speaker 9: that's going to take just labor, period, and then again
- 22:31Speaker 9: help just putting the word out there sharing it. Obviously,
- 22:34Speaker 9: funding we could still use more donations or if you
- 22:37Speaker 9: want to sponsor a certain station which is like the
- 22:41Speaker 9: videographer or you know, the catering, if you want to
- 22:44Speaker 9: sponsor that, that's absolutely an option as well.
- 22:47Speaker 3: I had a text here somebody says, do you need
- 22:50Speaker 3: a DJ? Do you have a DJ already?
- 22:52Speaker 8: We do have a DJ already.
- 22:54Speaker 9: If they would like to see about potentially doing this
- 22:56Speaker 9: in the future, or if we could set up another
- 23:00Speaker 9: station kind of in that karaoke area or something, they
- 23:03Speaker 9: can absolutely talk.
- 23:04Speaker 5: To me about.
- 23:05Speaker 3: I have a feeling that the person that texted me
- 23:06Speaker 3: is probably a DJ asking and they did say in
- 23:09Speaker 3: the text that they would volunteer, so maybe we can
- 23:13Speaker 3: try to link up here you We'll get your contact information,
- 23:16Speaker 3: maybe they can reach out to you, because I know
- 23:18Speaker 3: you've got a DJ now and you said that, and
- 23:20Speaker 3: that's great, but sometimes things happen. You know, people could
- 23:22Speaker 3: get it, wouldn't it wouldn't hurt to have somebody on
- 23:24Speaker 3: backup just in case.
- 23:25Speaker 9: February we never know what weather wise we're going to
- 23:29Speaker 9: be looking at.
- 23:29Speaker 3: Could be seventy or it could be seven. You know
- 23:32Speaker 3: that's that's February. So all right, So the texture that
- 23:34Speaker 3: said that will make sure we get you Courtney's information
- 23:37Speaker 3: so you can contact her and maybe you just have
- 23:39Speaker 3: them on standby just in case, or maybe you know
- 23:41Speaker 3: there's something else that they could do there, because they
- 23:43Speaker 3: did say they were willing to volunteer.
- 23:44Speaker 5: So that's good stuff, right.
- 23:46Speaker 9: Yes, and we appreciate that more than we could ever
- 23:48Speaker 9: ever say.
- 23:49Speaker 3: So if I'm an owner of a business right now,
- 23:51Speaker 3: I own you know, Dave's Auto Sales, and I don't
- 23:54Speaker 3: know tanning bed or something. I just made that up
- 23:56Speaker 3: so off on the end, and I want to spawn
- 24:00Speaker 3: sponsor this event. I say, look, I've got some funds.
- 24:03Speaker 3: I would like to become a sponsor. What opportunities are
- 24:06Speaker 3: available there for.
- 24:06Speaker 9: Me, so you can if you want to sponsor a
- 24:11Speaker 9: specific specific station there. All of our vendors thus far
- 24:18Speaker 9: are taken care of, but their payment will just come
- 24:20Speaker 9: out of our general fund that we have right now,
- 24:22Speaker 9: so you can if you just want to donate to
- 24:24Speaker 9: our Plates, Cups and Napkins fund.
- 24:26Speaker 8: Our general fund.
- 24:28Speaker 3: Without plates pay Without plates, cups and napkins, there's not
- 24:31Speaker 3: a whole lot of eating going on.
- 24:33Speaker 9: We still one of the big things that we need
- 24:35Speaker 9: to purchase our heaters again.
- 24:37Speaker 8: February could be seven.
- 24:39Speaker 9: We're gonna have to have heaters because we're gonna have
- 24:41Speaker 9: people outside.
- 24:42Speaker 8: We want them to be comfortable.
- 24:44Speaker 9: We still need the red carpet and that whole area
- 24:48Speaker 9: taken care of. Somebody could sponsor that again, any of
- 24:52Speaker 9: the things that are already inside, if they want to
- 24:54Speaker 9: sponsor those. There are so many places that I don't
- 24:57Speaker 9: think I could sit.
- 24:57Speaker 8: Here and just name them.
- 24:59Speaker 9: Another one that a lot of people probably don't think
- 25:01Speaker 9: of is we have to have an adult changing station
- 25:04Speaker 9: available because some of our guests cannot use the regular
- 25:08Speaker 9: restroom area, and that's something that the schools just don't have,
- 25:12Speaker 9: and so we've kind of had to go outside the
- 25:14Speaker 9: box and get that taken care of.
- 25:16Speaker 8: And so that's another one that we still need to.
- 25:19Speaker 5: Got to have somebody for that. Yeah.
- 25:21Speaker 3: Can we're talking with Courtneyil's week from a Night to Shine.
- 25:24Speaker 3: This big event that's going to be happening in a
- 25:25Speaker 3: Capitol high school, the Show of Dave Island Show here
- 25:28Speaker 3: is brought to you part by your hometown baseball team,
- 25:30Speaker 3: the Charleston Dirty Birds. The Birds and Slango Law continue
- 25:33Speaker 3: with Light the Night through the new year. Follow the
- 25:35Speaker 3: Dirty Birds on Facebook for details. But please, please please
- 25:38Speaker 3: please get your tickets ahead of time. It cuts down
- 25:40Speaker 3: on the lines and everything. Go to Dblightthanight dot com
- 25:43Speaker 3: to get your tickets ahead of time again Dblightthnight dot com.
- 25:47Speaker 3: And we did mention that this is being hosted by
- 25:51Speaker 3: the Southeast Church of the Nazarine, but this is not
- 25:54Speaker 3: a church event per se, correct, I mean that's the
- 25:58Speaker 3: one of the idea community event. Yes, and uh so
- 26:03Speaker 3: we want to make sure that people that people not
- 26:05Speaker 3: there's anything wrong with that. Well, we just want to
- 26:06Speaker 3: make sure people understand that this is not necessarily a
- 26:09Speaker 3: church event, so to speak. You folks are just stepping
- 26:12Speaker 3: up to the plate and with your church and trying
- 26:14Speaker 3: to make this a night to Shine as.
- 26:16Speaker 8: The name says, Yes, absolutely all right.
- 26:18Speaker 3: I had a text here said how would I go
- 26:20Speaker 3: about signing up my daughter?
- 26:22Speaker 9: Okay, so you can go to the I think the
- 26:25Speaker 9: V one hundred Facebook page still has it pinned to there. Okay,
- 26:28Speaker 9: you can go to the church's website.
- 26:31Speaker 3: That's Southeast Church Church of the Nazarene, Southeast Church of
- 26:34Speaker 3: the Nazarene.
- 26:34Speaker 9: Okay, yes, absolutely, they have a Facebook page. Everything is
- 26:37Speaker 9: linked there. The event itself has a Facebook page. All
- 26:41Speaker 9: of the links are there, and I'm probably driving people
- 26:43Speaker 9: crazy because I post on it all the time. Hey,
- 26:45Speaker 9: by the way, let's register. Hey, let's let's get your registered.
- 26:48Speaker 9: Here's the links to everything. At this point, I think
- 26:52Speaker 9: you can just google Night to Shine Charleston and it
- 26:56Speaker 9: will take you somewhere.
- 26:58Speaker 3: It'll take you someone you there.
- 27:00Speaker 9: Yeah, And the church's website is just Southeast naz naz
- 27:05Speaker 9: dot Church Center dot com and that will take you
- 27:10Speaker 9: to our church's website. There's a whole page for that.
- 27:11Speaker 9: And again there's a Facebook page for our church. There's
- 27:14Speaker 9: a Facebook page just.
- 27:15Speaker 8: For the event. And then again pend on the V
- 27:18Speaker 8: one hundred page, and.
- 27:20Speaker 3: Again, hats off to you, folks, because I think this
- 27:22Speaker 3: is going to be an absolutely fantastic thing, and I
- 27:24Speaker 3: appreciate you reaching out to me. I kind of linked
- 27:26Speaker 3: you up with the folks of V one hundred because
- 27:27Speaker 3: I thought, you know, we're all going to be involved
- 27:30Speaker 3: in some way. All the stations will be doing something
- 27:32Speaker 3: up there. But I thought that, you know, there's folks Stephen, Jenny,
- 27:34Speaker 3: you know, and Logan and the folks at V one hundred.
- 27:37Speaker 3: This is right up right up there, alley. And again,
- 27:39Speaker 3: this is going to be a major, major undertaking, and
- 27:43Speaker 3: Courtney and the folks could use some help with this.
- 27:46Speaker 3: I mean, even if you are listening right now and
- 27:48Speaker 3: you say, hey, I think this sounds like a cool event.
- 27:50Speaker 5: I just want to help out.
- 27:51Speaker 3: I can't. I can't donate any money. I just want
- 27:55Speaker 3: to come help out. You'll put them to work, absolutely
- 27:58Speaker 3: I will.
- 27:58Speaker 9: And again, if nothing else, come cheer the people on
- 28:02Speaker 9: as they make signs. Remind them how amazing they are
- 28:05Speaker 9: and how special they are. Line that red carpet, just
- 28:08Speaker 9: pack out that whole entrance. If you are, you know,
- 28:12Speaker 9: not that kind of cannonball into the deep end of
- 28:14Speaker 9: the Bay, you just want to dip your toes, that's
- 28:17Speaker 9: probably the best area to start. You can come a
- 28:19Speaker 9: little late, leave early if you want to.
- 28:22Speaker 3: You're not gonna turn anybody way that wants to help.
- 28:24Speaker 9: No, yeah, no, no, no, no, yeah, absolutely, I mean set up,
- 28:28Speaker 9: take down. There are so many areas that I can
- 28:31Speaker 9: use people in Buddies, and it's just kind of up
- 28:34Speaker 9: to you how involved you want to be. Another thing,
- 28:36Speaker 9: I personally have gone door to door to different like
- 28:39Speaker 9: physical therapy, occupational rehab places, nursing homes, taking them signs,
- 28:45Speaker 9: and there are a lot of places that were closed
- 28:48Speaker 9: or just never called me back. And I want to
- 28:51Speaker 9: make sure that we get the word out to anybody
- 28:53Speaker 9: that wants to be involved. So if anybody has any
- 28:56Speaker 9: contacts there, or if you work somewhere like that, feel
- 28:59Speaker 9: free to reach out to me too. If you have
- 29:01Speaker 9: a group of individuals that want to volunteer or a
- 29:04Speaker 9: group that want to come as guests, I will, I
- 29:06Speaker 9: will find somewhere for everyone.
- 29:08Speaker 5: I have no doubt.
- 29:08Speaker 3: I have no doubt who you will the day violand
- 29:11Speaker 3: showing five any lie brout to you, probably by Hustan's
- 29:13Speaker 3: Pizza check out the holiday packet Hustans get yourself a
- 29:15Speaker 3: large eighteen Nutch Hustin's Pepperoni pizza, ten bread, six twelve
- 29:18Speaker 3: hot wings and a two liter Pepsi only thirty three
- 29:20Speaker 3: ninety nine. Find your nearest Hustans for delivery, pick up
- 29:22Speaker 3: or dining at husbands Pizza dot com. Speaking of food,
- 29:27Speaker 3: are how are we situated on the food situation there?
- 29:30Speaker 5: Do we need? I mean, where's the food coming from?
- 29:32Speaker 5: Do you need more? Do you need? I mean we
- 29:34Speaker 5: talk about the food little bit.
- 29:35Speaker 9: So Christina Casto Lynch with Bellow the Ball Dream weddings
- 29:40Speaker 9: and events will be catering.
- 29:41Speaker 5: Okay.
- 29:41Speaker 9: She graciously has donated all of her time and all
- 29:45Speaker 9: of the food to be taken care of for that day.
- 29:48Speaker 9: She will be there to man the serving operations. But
- 29:51Speaker 9: we do still need some people. If you're you know,
- 29:53Speaker 9: if you do that for a living, if you if
- 29:55Speaker 9: you wait tables, or you know, if you work in
- 29:58Speaker 9: a restaurant and that's kind of your your niche, your area,
- 30:01Speaker 9: maybe you want to come and help surf, Maybe you
- 30:03Speaker 9: want to come help bus tables or help these individuals,
- 30:06Speaker 9: you know, get everything that they need.
- 30:08Speaker 3: We have a lot of places in the area we
- 30:10Speaker 3: have a lot of great bakeries, and we have a
- 30:11Speaker 3: lot of you know, people to do gourmet cupcakes and
- 30:15Speaker 3: things of.
- 30:15Speaker 5: That nature all over the valley.
- 30:16Speaker 8: Dessert.
- 30:17Speaker 3: I was going to say that might be something if
- 30:19Speaker 3: somebody's listening to us right now, I know we've got
- 30:21Speaker 3: them all over the Kanal Valley that do great jobs
- 30:24Speaker 3: with things like cookies and cupcakes and whatever. I mean,
- 30:26Speaker 3: if you know, I know you've got a caterer, but
- 30:28Speaker 3: you're not going to turn down if somebody says, hey,
- 30:30Speaker 3: I'd like to send up a couple dozen cupcakes, You're
- 30:32Speaker 3: not going to turn it down.
- 30:32Speaker 9: Absolutely not another great area that that would be used.
- 30:35Speaker 9: And as we have an area for the parents just
- 30:38Speaker 9: to lounge parents caregivers that way they can kind of
- 30:41Speaker 9: take a break. I had a lady she signed up
- 30:44Speaker 9: her son and she was a little concerned. She's it's
- 30:49Speaker 9: actually her grandsonce she's a little older. And she said,
- 30:52Speaker 9: how am I going to know, you know, do I
- 30:53Speaker 9: need to stay with him? How am I going to
- 30:55Speaker 9: know that his foods this way? How am I going
- 30:56Speaker 9: to know that this is this? And I told her

- 31:29Speaker 9: We're gonna have a couple people there doing like little
- 31:31Speaker 9: mini massages and some nail technicians and hairstylists, and they're
- 31:34Speaker 9: kind of pampering the parents and the caregivers that don't
- 31:36Speaker 9: normally get the time to do that.
- 31:38Speaker 5: It's kind of a night out for them as well.
- 31:40Speaker 9: Absolutely, and if you are someone in that area of business,
- 31:44Speaker 9: we would also like to offer gift cards to the parents,

- 31:52Speaker 9: because they may not always have the time or the
- 31:54Speaker 9: extra resources to be able to go take care of themselves.

- 39:56Speaker 3: some other things I wanted to get into the news
- 39:58Speaker 3: this morning, So the governor cleared some things up for
- 40:03Speaker 3: all of us yesterday. Jeff Jenkins with the lead story
- 40:07Speaker 3: this morning wv Metronews dot com. The governor, saying yesterday
- 40:10Speaker 3: he will stay on as a governor until the new
- 40:15Speaker 3: governor governor like Patrick Morrissey, current Attorney General of the state,
- 40:19Speaker 3: takes the oath of office on January thirteenth. Now technically, technically,
- 40:24Speaker 3: Jim Justice is due to take his seat in the
- 40:27Speaker 3: US Senate on January third, and had the governor taken
- 40:33Speaker 3: his seat as scheduled on the third, it could have
- 40:36Speaker 3: created quite an interesting situation, which we've talked about on
- 40:39Speaker 3: the show in the past, where we could have had
- 40:43Speaker 3: four governors in ten days. That would have been Governor Justice,
- 40:48Speaker 3: the current state Senate President Craig Blair, the soon to
- 40:51Speaker 3: be Senate President Randy Smith, and then Patrick Morrissey on
- 40:55Speaker 3: the thirteenth. The governor yesterday saying, quote, I don't think
- 40:59Speaker 3: that West Virginia he needs to have four governors in
- 41:01Speaker 3: ten days in quote, and the governor said he spoke
- 41:05Speaker 3: with Senator's Senator Shelley Moore Capitol and the incoming Senate
- 41:09Speaker 3: Majority Leader John Thune, and they both support his decision.
- 41:16Speaker 3: The governor went on to say that he doesn't expect
- 41:20Speaker 3: much to happen until President Elect Trump takes office himself
- 41:25Speaker 3: on January twentieth, So we're not going to have four governors,
- 41:30Speaker 3: you know, we're going to have justice. Basically, he's just
- 41:32Speaker 3: going to take the oath of office. Well, I mean,
- 41:34Speaker 3: let me back up. He's going to take his seat,
- 41:36Speaker 3: i should say, in Washington a little bit later, and
- 41:39Speaker 3: he's got the full support of those of the leadership
- 41:43Speaker 3: there and also the other senator from West Virginia, shelleymore Capital.
- 41:46Speaker 3: In the meantime, Brad mcwhenney has a story on the
- 41:49Speaker 3: website that the Governor's office responded to a request to
- 41:55Speaker 3: better understand how the governor decided to help out the school,
- 41:59Speaker 3: where he is also a coach, a job, but by
- 42:06Speaker 3: the way, he says, he will continue even when he's
- 42:09Speaker 3: in the US Senate. His office responded to a second
- 42:13Speaker 3: request for clarity by sending the original press release again
- 42:20Speaker 3: with some with key passages highlighted. Now a little background here.
- 42:27Speaker 3: Earlier this month, the governor announced financial support to replace
- 42:32Speaker 3: the floor at Greenbrier East High School, where he remains
- 42:36Speaker 3: as the girls basketball coach. The money comes from the
- 42:41Speaker 3: Governor's Discretionary Fund. There is also funding for a lighting
- 42:45Speaker 3: upgrade at Greenbrier East's football field and a replacement for
- 42:52Speaker 3: the basketball court at the high school across the county,
- 42:54Speaker 3: the big rivals at Greenbrier East Greenbrier West. So I
- 42:57Speaker 3: guess as far as Greenbrier Canty goes, he's not showing
- 42:59Speaker 3: favoritism here.
- 43:00Speaker 5: He's going He's going.
- 43:01Speaker 3: To to the the Cavaliers, I think is their name
- 43:05Speaker 3: of Greenbrier West. Going back to earlier in the month,
- 43:11Speaker 3: Metro News sent a public records request for the formal
- 43:16Speaker 3: application demonstrating the needs from the schools, as well as
- 43:22Speaker 3: the documents that approved the grants. Now a week or
- 43:26Speaker 3: so later, the governor's office sent copies of the formal
- 43:30Speaker 3: notification to the state Auditor's Office of the amount of
- 43:34Speaker 3: the grants and their disbursement from the Governor's Civil Contendency Fund.
- 43:39Speaker 3: And when Metro News asked for an updates, the Metro
- 43:44Speaker 3: News folks us, I guess the got the original statement,
- 43:50Speaker 3: just highlighted. You got that now. Brad mchalhanney has all
- 43:56Speaker 3: the stuff surrounding the story posted as part of his
- 43:58Speaker 3: story at wv Metronews dot com. And for the record,
- 44:03Speaker 3: it is worth noting that there's nothing wrong with what
- 44:08Speaker 3: the governor did here. It's part of his contingency fund. However,
- 44:13Speaker 3: I will say, and it's been brought up by people
- 44:15Speaker 3: that sometimes it just doesn't look good with it being
- 44:21Speaker 3: his home county. But I think you have to understand,
- 44:24Speaker 3: as governor of West Virginia, you're going to be from
- 44:27Speaker 3: one of the fifty five counties. So there's always going
- 44:31Speaker 3: to be a certain amount of shade thrown on the
- 44:33Speaker 3: governor's home county saying that he's looking out for he
- 44:36Speaker 3: or she is looking out for their home county. And
- 44:40Speaker 3: that's I think part of what that I mean. Look,
- 44:42Speaker 3: you know, Earl ray Tomlin for my native land in
- 44:45Speaker 3: Logan County, he got plenty of that, and so did
- 44:47Speaker 3: the other folks that have been governors, and but it
- 44:50Speaker 3: just I think it added another level because it just
- 44:54Speaker 3: wasn't toward his county. It was also toward the school
- 44:59Speaker 3: of which he is also a coach. But again he
- 45:02Speaker 3: also went across county and did the same thing at
- 45:05Speaker 3: the rivals of Greenbrieres. But you know, regardless, it's the
- 45:08Speaker 3: money is put there for a reason, and it's at
- 45:12Speaker 3: his discretion. That's why it's called a discretionary phone.
- 45:15Speaker 5: So so there it is.
- 45:18Speaker 3: Tex says the governor's move is clearly selfish. We're talking
- 45:22Speaker 3: about the governor not taking office until later. West Virginia
- 45:27Speaker 3: will not have a second senator from January third until
- 45:31Speaker 3: January thirteenth. That is nothing short of a travesty, says
- 45:34Speaker 3: a TEXTA. Well, the governor says in his defense that
- 45:37Speaker 3: there's not a whole lot going to be going on
- 45:38Speaker 3: at that time anyway, until President Trump arrives there later
- 45:42Speaker 3: in the month.
- 45:43Speaker 5: That's what the governor would say about that text.
- 45:47Speaker 3: Texas Dave, how about President Elon Musk wanting to expand
- 45:51Speaker 3: each would be visas for tech workers. Sounds like he
- 45:53Speaker 3: wants foreign labor for lower wages and being trapped in
- 45:57Speaker 3: a job because they're on the visas. That's maga right there,

- 48:44Speaker 3: out with the statement yesterday afternoon about something we had
- 48:47Speaker 3: talked about, and that is the commuting of several death
- 48:50Speaker 3: sentences by President Biden, including the killers of Marshall student
- 48:54Speaker 3: Samantha Burns, going back to two thousand and two, those
- 48:58Speaker 3: two Brandon Basham and Chadwick full Now. Senator Manchin says
- 49:02Speaker 3: he spoke to the parents of Samantha Burns and the
- 49:05Speaker 3: parents of Mansion. I'm sorry the Senator Manchaon spoke to
- 49:09Speaker 3: the parents of the samansia of Samantha Burns, and he
- 49:13Speaker 3: referred Senator did to the communiting of the sentences quote
- 49:17Speaker 3: as horribly misguided and insulting in quote, and as we
- 49:23Speaker 3: talked about earlier this week, instead of being on death
- 49:27Speaker 3: row and there and their seven The seventeen day crime
- 49:30Speaker 3: spree included a lot of other crime in addition to
- 49:33Speaker 3: the tragic killing of Samantha Burns, the Marshall student nineteen
- 49:37Speaker 3: years old back in two thousand and two. There was
- 49:39Speaker 3: a whole lot in his crime spree that these two did.
- 49:42Speaker 3: The two are now going to be spending life in
- 49:45Speaker 3: prison without the possibility ever of parole. And and and look,
- 49:52Speaker 3: you know, maybe I have not done a good job
- 49:55Speaker 3: of giving my view of the death penalty. That's based
- 49:59Speaker 3: on some of the angry texts that I've gotten this week.
- 50:01Speaker 3: Make no mistake about it. I am one hundred percent,
- 50:05Speaker 3: one hundred percent in favor of the death penalty. What
- 50:08Speaker 3: I'm not in favor of is the way we do
- 50:11Speaker 3: it in America now, where a lot of these scumbags
- 50:16Speaker 3: remain on death row on your dime, with year after
- 50:20Speaker 3: year of stays and other delays and so on and
- 50:23Speaker 3: so forth. And it's been proven how expensive that that is.
- 50:31Speaker 3: Our hearts and thoughts and prayers go out, and I
- 50:34Speaker 3: have continued and will continue to go out. I remember
- 50:37Speaker 3: the story well when it happened back in two thousand
- 50:40Speaker 3: and two. Hearts, and you know, I can't imagine what
- 50:44Speaker 3: that would be like, and not only Samantha Burns, but
- 50:47Speaker 3: the other victims of the crimes that Bashman folks committed
- 50:51Speaker 3: back then. If it were me, and it's easy for
- 50:54Speaker 3: me to say this because it wasn't my daughter that
- 50:57Speaker 3: was murdered, I don't know that I would want the
- 50:59Speaker 3: state can them because I probably want to do it myself.
- 51:03Speaker 3: But that having been said, I certainly I would prefer
- 51:07Speaker 3: that they write in jail if it were me, simply
- 51:09Speaker 3: because the death penalty the way the way we do
- 51:11Speaker 3: it in America is a joke.
- 51:12Speaker 5: Now.
- 51:14Speaker 3: I don't want them to suffer a little bit. That's
- 51:16Speaker 3: but that's just me because I'm I'm evil that way.
- 51:20Speaker 3: But in reality, folks, no one knows what they would
- 51:22Speaker 3: do if they were in that situation. Senator Manchion, though,
- 51:24Speaker 3: did speak to the parents of Samantha Burns, and that
- 51:27Speaker 3: was kind of a joint statement that came out on
- 51:30Speaker 3: that yesterday. You could read more about it on the website.
- 51:33Speaker 3: Tex says any thought on why the state Christmas Tree
- 51:36Speaker 3: has already been stripped of its decorations, the grants is
- 51:39Speaker 3: alive and well, Satan, I did not know that I haven't.
- 51:41Speaker 3: I was at the Capitol a couple of weeks ago,
- 51:43Speaker 3: but now I don't.
- 51:46Speaker 5: I do not know.
- 51:49Speaker 3: Texas day these pardons hit home with the two confessed
- 51:51Speaker 3: killers of Samantha Burns. These two animals have been in
- 51:54Speaker 3: prison for twenty years and should have been put to
- 51:57Speaker 3: death years ago. Our justice system needs changed again, an
- 52:01Speaker 3: example of a corrupt left wing president.
- 52:03Speaker 5: Evil is all it is.
- 52:04Speaker 3: Well, I look, I said, I am one hundred percent
- 52:07Speaker 3: capital punishment, make no mistake about it. However, the way
- 52:11Speaker 3: we do it in America right now, no, and quite frankly,
- 52:14Speaker 3: there have been cases in the past where we got
- 52:18Speaker 3: it wrong in the court system, whether it's death penalty
- 52:21Speaker 3: or wrongful imprisonment. But yeah, I don't think you can
- 52:26Speaker 3: blame a corrupt left wing president for this, because I
- 52:28Speaker 3: think it's been going on for some time.
- 52:29Speaker 2: All Right, we.
- 52:30Speaker 3: Got to go thank you to Courtney L's Week from
