- 0:18I'm Jessica, and this is ATC presents devak rambles, where a
- 0:21couple of friends review Korean dramas.
- 0:23And today, on a very special episode of season three, I have
- 0:28my usual co-host, Rico with me. How are you?
- 0:31Hey, I am back, baby. I'm excited.
- 0:35I'm excited to be back. It's been a while.
- 0:37My work schedule has kind of kept me away from being able to

- 0:44Yeah, but I'm glad to be back. So this is gonna be fun.
- 0:50I'm glad to have you back. I'm glad to have you back on a
- 0:52very fun episode. I imagine we'll have a ton of
- 0:55fun reviewing vinchenzo. Hey.
- 0:59Yeah, we've been watching this. A really long time.

- 1:04months. It is finally here.

- 2:25So I'm going to get started on reading the my drama list
- 2:29synopsis for Vincenzo and then we're going to get going.
- 2:32Mindrum Melissa Nosis reads at the age of 8, pachu Young went
- 2:36to Italy after he was adopted. He is now an adult and has the
- 2:39name of Vincenzo Cassano. He is a lawyer who works for the
- 2:42Mafia as a conciliary because of a war between mafia groups.
- 2:46He flees to South Korea and South Korea.
- 2:48He gets involved with lawyer Hong Chau Young.
- 2:50She is the type of attorney who will do anything to win a case.
- 2:53Vincenzo Cassano falls in love with her.
- 2:55He is also. He also achieves social justice
- 2:58by his own way. Alright, so this show originally
- 3:02aired from February to May 2021. It is firmly a pandemic show and
- 3:07it was released almost simultaneously on Netflix.
- 3:10So the international audience got to see it basically at the
- 3:13same time as the Korean audience.
- 3:14And that's where it got a lot of fame because it was in like the
- 3:18top 10 for Netflix and stuff as it was airing.
- 3:21Vincenzo is 20 episodes long. It's directed by a female
- 3:25director, Kim Yuan. She's directed soundtrack number
- 3:29one, also at Disney plus. Show the crown clown from 2019,
- 3:33which we'll be covering later in the season.
- 3:35Warm and cozy from 2015, and she's currently directing little
- 3:40women from with Kim Goeun and yeah, a bunch of people.
- 3:45A bunch of big names are in little women based on the Louisa
- 3:49May Alcott. Book.
- 3:52That's really cool, yeah. But it's supposed to be a
- 3:54mystery thriller. So totally different tone than
- 3:58be the changing the genre completely.
- 4:00Yeah, absolutely. Vincenzo is written by a male
- 4:05screenwriter, which is pretty rare in for Kdramas POC jibboom.
- 4:09He wrote the fiery priest good manager blood from 2015, which I
- 4:13do not recommend. I do not like blood.
- 4:17He also wrote the Good Doctor from 2013 and if that name
- 4:20sounds familiar. It was later licensed and turned
- 4:23into an American series from ABC with Freddie Highmore.
- 4:26So that is a export of Korea. Yes, it is.
- 4:31Yes, Vincenzo Stars song junkie as Vincenzo Cassano, the title
- 4:35character. We've seen him before from
- 4:38descendants of the Sun Rigos. We have season one.
- 4:44Descendants of the sun. That was a season.
- 4:47He's awesome. Was that a season one or season
- 4:49one? That's a season one, yes.
- 4:52So swirl back in your podcast feed if you want to hear our
- 4:54thoughts on descendants of the Sun from 2016, it's on.
- 4:58Juki is basically a household name.
- 5:00He's been in Arthal chronicles, the innocent man from 2012, I
- 5:05think. My favorite Korean movie?
- 5:07A werewolf boy as well. I say that like with a great
- 5:10insult because sometimes Korean movies are like my internal
- 5:14lists of favorite. These changes every so often,
- 5:16but a werewolf boy holds a very high place in my heart.
- 5:20The show also stars Dong Yoo bin as Hong Chi Yong, and she's been
- 5:25in B melodramatic and save me from 2017.
- 5:28She's basically a newcomer new face to the K drama world.
- 5:33Yeah, haven't seen her really in much.
- 5:36Tachyon as Jung Jung. Sorry, I'm already laughing
- 5:40because of tachyon. Anyway, he plays Jang Junu and
- 5:45he's been in Secret Royal Inspector and Joy save me from
- 5:492017. So him and Junior bin were in
- 5:52the same drama together. Bring it on.
- 5:54Ghost from 2016. Dream High from 2011 again.
- 5:58Dream high circling around. I feel like every episode I
- 6:01mentioned dream high, do you know?
- 6:03Take on this. No, I'm not sure.
- 6:08OK, that is OK tachyon is the rapper from the KPOP group, 2:00
- 6:13PM. OK.
- 6:16OK. Does that ring?
- 6:18Anyway? You've never seen anything from
- 6:19two? I haven't, actually.
- 6:20I gotta send you like a few music videos after this so you
- 6:23can see like taking on an action at the peak of his career and
- 6:27when that the peak of his career, but the peak of his
- 6:29music career, so to speak. Gotcha.
- 6:31We've got a few side characters of note.
- 6:33I'll say. Kim Yoojin plays Chum Yoongi and
- 6:37she's been in about 16 movies and a bunch of TV.
- 6:40Like throw rock and you'll hit K drama that she's been in.
- 6:43Extracurricular from 2020. Itaewon class from 2020 rookie.
- 6:47Durango head Yong where stars then my secretary is loving the
- 6:50moonlight, tears of heaven. Angel has so many, so many.
- 6:52She's been in a lot of K dramas. We also have quantong young as
- 6:57chairman Jang Hansel and he's been in big mouth from 2022.
- 7:03That's where you might see him now.
- 7:05He's starring in Big mouth, our beloved summer.
- 7:07It's OK to not be OK. He was like a side character in
- 7:10that so many kdramas as well. He's a common name, common face.
- 7:15Alright, so all that out of the way, Rico.
- 7:18What did you think of in Genzo? Before we do that, do you have a
- 7:23question on your face? Yeah, because when you said he
- 7:26was in big mouth, for me, big mouth is, it's a Netflix show.
- 7:32It's an animated show from Netflix.
- 7:35I don't think we're talking about the same thing, though.
- 7:38No, it's a currently airing kdrama.
- 7:40We're recording this in September of 2022, and Big Mouth
- 7:45is currently airing. Gotcha.
- 7:46Yeah. OK.
- 7:47So. And new one or the show.
- 7:50But anyway, OK, so this show Vincenzo.
- 7:55I think that this is a very well done show.
- 7:59I love the way the show looks. It has such a high production
- 8:03value to it. I think that the acting
- 8:07performances are very good throughout the entire show.
- 8:11There's a couple of qualms I have where the show kind of
- 8:16starts off like a oh, it's going to be like a mafia type of show,
- 8:22but then the show kind of like diverts itself into more of like
- 8:25a law drama, kind of like a sitcom almost.
- 8:30In some ways. This is again, this is another
- 8:33thing that I have about Korean shows, is that they like to
- 8:38dabble in multiple types of genres in one show.
- 8:42Yeah. And it kind of, you know, you're
- 8:45in a very serious moment at one moment and then you hear like
- 8:49the light fluttery music and then they're like flirting with
- 8:52each other and it's like a romcom and it's like.
- 8:55I it's so hard to put it like wrap your head around and stay
- 9:01in the moment without being like, well, this show just
- 9:04changed all of a sudden. With that said though, even with
- 9:09the qualm that I have with that. I think that this is a very good
- 9:13show. Um, it, it ranks a little higher
- 9:16in my own personal the ones that we've done together here on on
- 9:21the show, I think you're number one has consistently been
- 9:24signal. Yes it has and it still is.
- 9:29Not to say that this is bad or anything.
- 9:31This I I would have to go back and look at my rankings.
- 9:35It's probably somewhere in that maybe like 4 to 5 range,
- 9:38somewhere in there out of the shows that we've done so kind of
- 9:42high for me. I really enjoy the performance
- 9:47by Song Junkie. Song junkie, yeah, he plays
- 9:52Vincenzo. There is a seriousness to the
- 9:57character that I do like that he brings.
- 9:59Also, I do like when he does have interactions with Hong Chao
- 10:06Young, who's played by Jean Xu bin, right?
- 10:11Is that how you pronounce her real name?
- 10:13Her real name? Jung.
- 10:15Jobin. Jobin.
- 10:17So their interactions together are really good.
- 10:21I really enjoy them as a couple. The the things that happened
- 10:26throughout the show, I think there's some very nice moments
- 10:29of sweetness between them, but also them working together as
- 10:33the show progresses. I think you see a good
- 10:37established relationship between the two, so I really enjoy
- 10:40their. Their chemistry, their
- 10:45interactions and then the third character that I like a lot as
- 10:50well is the. He is the I'm trying.
- 10:57What is his name? But he's basically like the
- 11:00brother who who's part of the Babble group.
- 11:04But he's not evil. Yes.
- 11:08OK, well, that's a spoiler, but yeah.
- 11:10Chairman Jang Hansel, he's played by the last person on
- 11:13this list, Kwak Dong Yeon. There we go.
- 11:16Quack Don Young, he's the half brother and we'll kind of just
- 11:21leave it at that, OK? That's it.
- 11:24So so you like to these characters I really like the
- 11:28most and I I found myself gravitating towards as I'm
- 11:32watching this show. So overall I really had fun with
- 11:36the show. I think it is a very good show
- 11:39to watch. There's a couple moments that
- 11:43stand out for me, but then there's a couple of moments that
- 11:46I'm just like, uh, not sure if we needed either this plot line
- 11:52or even to spend time here in this moment, but overall, a
- 11:56pretty good show. How about you, Jessica?
- 11:59Alright, so I had high expectations for this show
- 12:02because everyone in their mom sings Vincenzo's praises.
- 12:05It's a well regarded show that I happened to completely miss when
- 12:11it was originally airing and I love song junkie like facts.
- 12:17I came into this with high expectations in the first
- 12:21episode, again, like you said, made me think it was going to be
- 12:24a very high stakes, high intensity mafia show.
- 12:28The Italy sequences were stunning.
- 12:30I was blown away by that whole intro sequence.
- 12:34And then I was like expecting that tone throughout the show.
- 12:37That was not the case at all. There was so much more slapstick
- 12:42comedy and generally light, ridiculous sequences in comedy
- 12:46than I wanted. I was expecting and wanting a
- 12:50darker tone. If they had stuck more to that
- 12:55then I think I would have liked the show better, but it was
- 12:57always teetering between genres, between.
- 13:00This antihero dark law drama and this ridiculous light.
- 13:09Comedy. Situational comedy.
- 13:11Like you said you were like, oh, it's kind of like sitcom.
- 13:13Yeah, it is. I was not as invested as other
- 13:17people with the Gunga Guha Plaza.
- 13:22Inhabitants I really. This is this is a main storyline
- 13:28that I don't understand why it it played such a big role.
- 13:32The Gunga Plaza residents were not why I was invested at all.
- 13:38If you can call me being invested in vinchenzo, I think
- 13:42that. They were just very distracting
- 13:47to me. I didn't find them that funny at
- 13:49times. I think towards the end of the
- 13:51show they started to grow on me because they left some of the
- 13:54comedy behind in favor of them becoming more coming more into
- 13:58the fold of the vinchenzo machinations and their grand
- 14:02plan. I just didn't like the.
- 14:09The tone of the show, the pacing of the show, and when I say
- 14:11pacing, I mean, why was it 20 episodes, more than an hour
- 14:15apiece per episode? Another thing that I
- 14:18consistently struggle with, and this is, you've known me on
- 14:21this, yeah, but I struggled with this too, on this show.
- 14:24I was very distraught when I consistently paused at the hour
- 14:29mark, and I was like, there's fucking there's more time more.
- 14:32What else can they possibly put in this episode?
- 14:35I feel like they could have definitely trimmed down the
- 14:37episodes, trimmed down the fat. Left some stuff on the cutting
- 14:41room floor versus stuffing each episode to the brim with content
- 14:47that I wasn't, you know, compelled by.
- 14:50Would you say that this would have been better served as a 16
- 14:54episode rather than the 2100% because there was enough to cut
- 14:59out to drop it down to six? Oh yeah.
- 15:01And get it really tight, you know, tight story.
- 15:05Yeah. Yeah, that's that's where I kind
- 15:08of struggle with is. A lot of time, at least this is
- 15:11just for me personally. A lot of the times on the Korean
- 15:15shows, there's a lot of different plot lines that just
- 15:18don't really influence the end game of the A storyline.
- 15:23So sometimes we spend too much time with the B and the C plot
- 15:28that. You're just kind of waiting.
- 15:31OK, we gotta get back to the main plot of the story, right?
- 15:34I don't mind AB plot, but it cannot hog up too much time when
- 15:39there's only so many episodes. There's only 20 episodes of a
- 15:43show. You can't dedicate that much
- 15:47time to the B and the CPLEX. That's just my opinion on that
- 15:52part. No, I agree completely.
- 15:54I don't think I was as positive on the main coupling of Hong
- 16:00Chau. And then vinchenzo, as you were
- 16:02OK, I. This is a hot take.
- 16:05I don't think they had chemistry.
- 16:06Ohh. OK, I think they were way better
- 16:11as platonic partners and partners in crime than they were
- 16:16romantic interests. OK, I got you.
- 16:21I got you. Are you gonna advocate for them
- 16:24during the rest of this episode? I'm not gonna like say here and
- 16:27be like you're wrong. And this is.
- 16:29I think I felt like they did have some chemistry.
- 16:33But I'm not going to sit here that it's the best chemistry
- 16:37that I've seen from any couple here at any point from any show
- 16:44that we've watched. But I think at least.
- 16:48For myself, I saw a little more chemistry than you did.
- 16:51Most likely, yeah, I think they were best suited as just
- 16:56partners in crime. Got it.
- 16:59There were a couple of moments. I was like, OK, we're getting
- 17:01there, it's warming up. But it wasn't this chemical
- 17:06reaction, if you get my meaning, I got you.
- 17:09Yeah. I got.
- 17:13I don't know what else to say. I think the.
- 17:18I love the way it was shot. Just like you said,
- 17:19cinematography wise, really beautiful visuals.
- 17:23I think that I was wanting more from the OST.
- 17:28It wasn't working like I like working as in like it wasn't
- 17:33doing its part right in the grand scheme of the show.
- 17:37I think they relied heavily on classical music, which is
- 17:41perfectly fine to me. I think they could have gone
- 17:45even heavier on the classier, classier.
- 17:47On the classical music and those needle drops which invoke a
- 17:51different kind of tone and feeling.
- 17:54I see what you're saying. Would you say that because we're
- 17:59so used to in Korean shows, having like that pop element
- 18:04being injected into the soundtracks?
- 18:06Maybe that's something that was kind of missing from the show
- 18:09because you're so used to it. I do feel like I'm used to it
- 18:14and I'm wanting. That element in the show for
- 18:18sure they did have score. And in particular there was one
- 18:23emotional song that I have to find the track for it, but it
- 18:27sounded just started just like great is thy faithfulness.
- 18:31You know that old hymn? Yes.
- 18:34Do you know that old hymn? So it literally was the same.
- 18:37It started the same notes as great as thy faithfulness.
- 18:39And every time it came on I was like great is I favorite is so
- 18:46God my father just saying it in my head and then once it stops
- 18:50with the melody, I was like. Got off it, you know stop
- 18:53singing it. But it was very dead on and in
- 18:58that respect it made me think it was very old sounding because
- 19:01greatest I faithfulness. It's like hello old.
- 19:03That's a that's an old song. Yeah that's an old him.
- 19:05You are very not that. Anyway, I don't know what else
- 19:10to say without going into spoilers, because I truly feel
- 19:13like anything you say. Is kind of spoilery.
- 19:17Yeah, yeah. Wait, let's talk about it.
- 19:19Well, I don't think this is necessarily a spoiler, but
- 19:21tachyon, what did you feel about his performance?
- 19:25About Tech Young's performance. You feel about tech?
- 19:31OK, so he is basically, he's an intern right, at the at the law
- 19:38firm, yes, he starts as an intern at the law firm, right?
- 19:41He starts there, but then we learn more about him.
- 19:47I think that what I do like. How the show kind of treated him
- 19:52first was like he's like just go with the flow like.
- 19:56Happy go, lucky, whatever. But as the show goes and you see
- 20:02the way they change that character, I think they do a
- 20:06good job because the show needed like a true.
- 20:11And I mean, I don't know how much we can say without spoiling
- 20:15it, but like I got you, it needs an antagonist.
- 20:19It needed it, needed it needed it, it needed it, and they
- 20:22needed the change they needed to establish.
- 20:26A big bad. And I put that in quotes just
- 20:29because when you're dealing with a show where there's
- 20:33implications of the mob or some type of corporation who's like
- 20:38in control, whatever you're doing, you need to establish a
- 20:42face to it almost and. I'm kind of glad that he's like
- 20:47the one that they did that with because he brings.
- 20:52A little bit of a presence, like, I love that it goes from.
- 20:56You know, we don't really see him as a threat type of thing as
- 21:00an audience member. And then it shifts and you
- 21:04think, ohh, he's a major problem.
- 21:07I thought they did a good job with it.
- 21:09How about you? Did did you feel the same way or
- 21:11differently? I was spoiled ohh no before I
- 21:14watched the show because you know I'm deep in the enemy's
- 21:18camp here and K drama territory deep in all over the deep in the
- 21:21enemy's camp the UK drama editors do not sleep and I was
- 21:26spoiled about Tachyon's character I.
- 21:32I think people rank him. I'm just going to go out and say
- 21:35I think people rank him as one of the best kdrama villains.
- 21:38Hmm. OK, what would you say to that
- 21:42claim? I don't know if I would consider
- 21:45him like the best villain. I think he's a good villain, but
- 21:49the best seems like a very strong title to assign to him.
- 21:56I think so too. I think people might be grasping
- 21:59a bit when they say he's the best villain.
- 22:01I think that there are other villains in Kdrama that do a bit
- 22:05better job that are a little more nuanced.
- 22:08I feel like tech was chewing up scenery.
- 22:12He was chewing up scenery, just noshing on it.
- 22:16He was really cartoonish. Yeah, you can even say he was
- 22:21cartoonish. Yeah.
- 22:22Like, because it was OK. So maybe this is something that
- 22:27I'm thinking of, but I think that a lot of times when we do
- 22:31meet a villain in one of in a Korean show, they do kind of go
- 22:37after like a lot of the cliches of what makes a villain a
- 22:42villain. You know, they have to either be
- 22:45yelling if they're doing that, or they have to look very
- 22:48sinister and they have to like put on a face to do it.
- 22:52Like they they go after the cliches.
- 22:55So maybe there was enough. Differences between the way he
- 23:01started to the way he ended that people maybe like where it see
- 23:05like a character progression almost hmm, maybe that's how
- 23:08people saw it. And so that's a little bit
- 23:11different because a lot of times those villains are OneNote.
- 23:14It's like I'm bad because I'm bad and I do bad things and
- 23:19that's kind of it. There's no nuance 2 characters.
- 23:23Sometimes I would like to dive into his psyche a bit when we
- 23:26get to the spoiler section, but I honestly feel like.
- 23:29People are very. Whistle word.
- 23:33They're not blinded, but. Just maybe caught in the moment
- 23:40by the reveal. Yeah, when they reveal text,
- 23:45true nature, you're just like. Oh my God.
- 23:48Like it's a it's A twist, you know, in the show.
- 23:54What where is that from? Ohh you don't know where that's
- 23:57from. So there's a.
- 24:02Man, there's there was a show, a robot chicken that was on on
- 24:06Cartoon Network and so they they did a whole thing about
- 24:10Shyamalan, right? M Night Shyamalan.
- 24:13And so like they would like do like a little thing and then
- 24:17they would like do something and then Shyamalan would kind of
- 24:21come out and be like what the twist?
- 24:23And with that voice and everything, what the twist?
- 24:28So anytime like A twist comes up in my head, I'm just like, what
- 24:32A twist. OK, so I got it.
- 24:38You gotta send me one of those videos.
- 24:40I gotta send you one of those now.
- 24:42I love to. The intro sequence of the
- 24:45opening credit sequence for Vincenzo's got like a madman
- 24:47meets James Bond meets House of Cards intro.
- 24:50Good stuff, good stuff on it. We'll get to some fun facts
- 24:53right now before we give our scores and jump into spoilers.
- 24:57So we talked a little bit about the introduction of vinchenzo
- 25:02the character in Italy. How did Song Junkie film in
- 25:06Italy during COVID-19? He didn't.
- 25:10He didn't. All those scenes that were set
- 25:12in Italy were done. Completely CGI, really.
- 25:16All of them. I kid you not.
- 25:18So junkie never stepped foot in Italy.
- 25:21None of those people were there when he was acting.
- 25:23He was acting in front of a blue screen the entire time.
- 25:27Every single Italy scene. So what do you think of that?
- 25:31So that you're, you're a stickler for CGI, stickler for
- 25:35CGI. And in that sequence, they're
- 25:39like moments where I guess maybe I thought the sky, they might
- 25:44have wanted to make it look a certain way, but I didn't think
- 25:49like the entire thing was CGI, the whole thing.
- 25:51So they did a good job getting me on there.
- 25:55I didn't think you got they got you.
- 25:58Well, I gotta. I gotta give him props for being
- 26:01able to act by himself pretty much.
- 26:04Because he he's not really with them.
- 26:08There's nobody there. There's no one there.
- 26:11That's hilarious to me. Nice.
- 26:13I'm so glad they got you on that.
- 26:15They got me. They got me.
- 26:16Yeah. Yeah, they really did.
- 26:17That Netflix money coming through.
- 26:20Some native Italian speakers have reviewed some junkies
- 26:24Italian in Vincenzo because he speaks Italian a bunch of times
- 26:28in the show, and they have said that although his pausing was
- 26:33awkward, his pronunciation was mostly accurate and they
- 26:37especially thought that his swearing in Italian was perfect.
- 26:44Why is it that when it comes to cursing, everybody can be an
- 26:48expert? Yeah, everyone's a native
- 26:51speaker. Think.
- 26:52Think about every person who doesn't know Spanish.
- 26:56But you tell them a curse word. Yeah, they easily get it.
- 27:00Every time. Every time.
- 27:03So let's talk ratings. I mentioned the top ten in on
- 27:06Netflix. The first episode reached a 7.7
- 27:09rating, making it the fourth highest rated TV drama premiere.
- 27:13The finale received 14.6% rating, making it the 11th
- 27:19highest rated K drama in cable television history.
- 27:24Really good. Yeah, that's really, really
- 27:26good. Yeah, it is.
- 27:28A shit ton of people watching. Gentle.
- 27:30Yes, pretty much alright. So there's some fun facts.
- 27:34More more fun facts, but we'll get into them.
- 27:36For the spoiler section. What would you rate this show
- 27:40out of five soju bottles? Out of five soju bottles, I am
- 27:43going to give it a 3 1/2. Three social bottles, yes.
- 27:48Alright, I'm gonna give it the same.
- 27:51But I feel like I'm on the negative side and you're on the
- 27:53positive side. I don't know why we have the
- 27:55same soldier battle score, but. We'll get into it.
- 27:57I get into it, I guess. Yeah, alright, we're going to
- 28:01talk spoilers right after this. Hey, you wanna come in?
- 28:11Alright, we're on the other side of spoilers for Vincenzo.
- 28:14So if you have watched Vincenzo, keep listening.
- 28:16If you don't care to be spoiled, then listen on.
- 28:19All right, so episodes one and two.
- 28:21I found them so boring after he lands in Korea.
- 28:26Yeah. So the big thing for me is when
- 28:29they start introducing these different plot threads that I
- 28:34thought we were going to get, like a true mafia show.
- 28:37And it doesn't feel that way after you land in Korea, right?
- 28:42It kind of, you know what it kind of feels like.
- 28:45It kind of feels like the show like bills itself with the first
- 28:48trailer of the first part of the first episode.
- 28:53Yes. And then bamboozles you.
- 28:56Yes, into a different show, 100%.
- 28:59I thought the Italy stuff was really cool, pure mafia, super
- 29:03interesting. And then he gets to Korea and
- 29:05it's like someone declawed a cat.
- 29:07Thank you. Thank you, thank you.
- 29:09Just like, what is this and then?
- 29:13They, you know, they go ahead and they like just introduce
- 29:19like this separate storyline about the building.
- 29:23Yeah, that's one. There is a law case against
- 29:28Babel and you think, oh, maybe this is just a side case.
- 29:33No, this is going to be the main story case.
- 29:35Yeah, that's the main storyline. It's against barble barble
- 29:39barble. It's against Babbel
- 29:42pharmaceuticals. And then you expand because
- 29:44apparently that's a subsidiary Babble conglomerate.
- 29:47Is the bad guy, the bad company that they're fighting against.
- 29:51They introduce a bunch of tropes like he has mommy issues because
- 29:55he was abandoned. As a child, you get the
- 29:57abandonment trope. His mom gave him up for adoption
- 30:00and she's now imprisoned for killing an abusive employer.
- 30:03But that was a falsehood because she didn't kill the guy.
- 30:06He was like a tribute to rape her.
- 30:08It's like really dramatic. And the Babble fight.
- 30:12The introduction of Chong. Hi.
- 30:14Oh my God, what's your name? Tahong Lord.
- 30:17What is her name? Really.
- 30:20Hongyang? Yeah.
- 30:21Chai Yong Hong. Or Hong when she gets in Hong
- 30:26Chau Young when she gets introduced.
- 30:28I'm not sold on her characterization because she is
- 30:33kind of playing the villainous. Role where?
- 30:36She's on the side of Babel. She's fighting with her dad.
- 30:38I'm not interested, you know, I'm not interested at all in
- 30:43anything that's happening. No, it's not until the end of
- 30:47episode 3 when things finally start to pick up, OK.
- 30:53They come in with a truck slamming into the building?
- 30:58Yep. And killing a child's dad?
- 31:02Yep. And it was the kick in the pants
- 31:04the show needed because you. They had this epic montage
- 31:08sequence after this truck crash where Taeyong is struggling to
- 31:15cope, feeling guilty over being at odds with her father and his
- 31:18morals. The media smear campaign against
- 31:22him and the witness researcher was part of all that was
- 31:25particularly upsetting because you, even though I wasn't, I
- 31:29wasn't, didn't care about anything that was happening.
- 31:31You knew that her dad was like a righteous lawyer.
- 31:34He was, he was a good guy. He was a good guy.
- 31:37And to see her just going through it, vinchenzo's in a
- 31:42coma like it's like crazy. And I thought that was the
- 31:47turning point in the show for it to actually starting start to be
- 31:52more high stakes again. So after the first sequence, one
- 31:56of my things about a show like this when you don't have as many
- 32:00episodes is the show needs to propel in the first episode.
- 32:06Yeah, it it can't. You can't wait until episode 3
- 32:11to find the end of episode 3 to get the catalyst for the show,
- 32:16because this is what gets people like different parts of the
- 32:20story moving. It gets Chao Young and Vincenzo
- 32:24closer together to start battling against.
- 32:30Travel like it. It puts the kick in the pants to
- 32:33start going that way. But it shouldn't be by episode
- 32:373, it should have been much sooner.
- 32:39I agree. I agree completely.
- 32:42Yeah. That truck scene though?
- 32:43The truck was literally driven into the store.
- 32:46Yep, driven, shattering the glass and turning over the
- 32:49tables and spilling the bottles of rice wine and stuff.
- 32:52They were hooked up to stunt wires, and then they were hauled
- 32:56across the room to make it look like they were flying from the
- 32:59impact of the truck crash. They didn't do it at the same
- 33:02time though. They did it separately and then
- 33:04I guess they pieced it together after the fact and post.
- 33:07But I thought that was a really cool fun fact is that there was
- 33:11no CGI for that truck. No, they they fully didn't.
- 33:15Yeah. Awesome.
- 33:16That's awesome. I, I, I enjoy a good practical
- 33:20stunt. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 33:22Although that one, I would have guessed it was CGI.
- 33:24Yeah. If you're gonna do that would be
- 33:27the one that you would think would be CGI, not the entire
- 33:30Italy sequence. Getting sequence.
- 33:35So going back to this montage rehab like what?
- 33:38In episode four they had this montage of the murder aftermath
- 33:42and it was all set to Requiem K-626 AKA Mass 19 and D minor.
- 33:49And it reminded me a bit. Of um.
- 33:54Especially with the Oh my God, what's her name?
- 33:59Choi mungi. That other evil attorney?
- 34:02Yes, the woman attorney. The woman attorney, yes.
- 34:05So ceremony. She is dancing in her office and
- 34:10stuff during that whole sequence.
- 34:12And it reminded me of both the Joker with the dancing on the
- 34:16steps and the IT was like that simultaneous.
- 34:20The whole like sequence plus her dancing, right.
- 34:23We have Joker dancing on us. Plus the do you renounce Satan
- 34:27scene from the Godfather? From the godfather?
- 34:29Oh my God. It reminded me of the do you
- 34:31renounce Satan scene? See it with the they cut back
- 34:35and forth between like the people who are the victims and
- 34:38the guy who's the woman who's pulling all the strings because
- 34:41she's the one who said I want it all to happen on the same night.
- 34:44You know it was. Actually really good editing and
- 34:50I appreciated that scene a lot. They do a really good job with
- 34:54it whenever whenever a scene like that happens where like it
- 34:57does kind of make you think of like the Godfather scene, the,
- 35:01you know, pronounced Satan scene.
- 35:04Do you want Satan and all his works?
- 35:08There's a lot of shows who do it, but one that did it, you
- 35:12know within the last 10 years that I found to be fantastic was
- 35:16like, tell me, have you ever seen, have you ever seen Modern
- 35:18Family? No, no, I have not.
- 35:22Just bits and pieces of fantastic one where they're at a
- 35:27baby christening and everything and no stop.
- 35:29And they do the whole sequence of like, do you renounce Satan
- 35:33and his all his works. And it's Phil Dunphy like the
- 35:36one the the dad who's always the fun one that you see like in all
- 35:40the commercials and stuff. And he's the one he sends his
- 35:44son to like do the works that need to be done.
- 35:48Such a great thing. So if you ever watch Modern
- 35:50Family. I think the episode is called
- 35:52full hentzia because that's gonna be the name of the of
- 35:55course. That's the baby's name.
- 36:00Yeah. It's the baby between Sofia
- 36:02Vergara's character and Albany guy.
- 36:07Ohh, man, they had a baby. And so he wants to name it Joe
- 36:10because he's, you know, he's a typical white guy and she's like
- 36:14her mom wants to name it Fulgencio, like the 4th or
- 36:19whatever. Anyway, OK, OK, back to begin to
- 36:26vinchenzo. So Episode 4 ends with them
- 36:29setting fire to the Babel farmhouse warehouse.
- 36:32To what do you think of that? Bugs from spreading out?
- 36:35Yes, I really. Great, great.
- 36:38Great scene, great scene. Loved it.
- 36:40And also like really to like put Babble like on their heels.
- 36:45Like ohh shit, yes, it's not gonna be easy coming at these
- 36:49two. And Vincenzo, you know he's
- 36:51going to do things his own way. So yeah, I appreciate that.
- 36:55I liked how they even messed with the sprinklers so they
- 36:57wouldn't turn on so they wouldn't turn on.
- 37:00Great job. They're like, why don't we have
- 37:02like a sprinkler system? Why is nothing getting put out
- 37:05and they've backtrack again? And you see them messing with
- 37:08this regular system and shutting it off.
- 37:09And I'm like, Oh my God, it's so great.
- 37:11You see, finally the big bad shows up.
- 37:15And it's tachyon. Yes, it's tech.
- 37:19It's tech rolling up. Looking fierce, looking bad.
- 37:23And he's the the man behind the curtain.
- 37:27They finally, like we, get the reveal.
- 37:31I just like how the scene is so put well, put together, and then
- 37:34the culmination is a grand reveal, right?
- 37:38Exactly, you know. So and then the final shot is of
- 37:43all of our arsonists driving away looking at the inferno, and
- 37:46they're playing pavarotti's rendition of Nessun dorma from
- 37:50Turandot. And we get a translation of the
- 37:53lyrics because Vinny says them, he says.
- 37:57Set stars, set stars at dawn. I will win.
- 37:59I will win. I will win.
- 38:01And you're just like, ohh, like, you just feel like it's so such
- 38:05momentum and drive and feel like moments like this.
- 38:09Yeah. What really drives me on this
- 38:10show. Yes.
- 38:12Yeah. That scene felt a lot like the
- 38:14Bellagio fountain scene for motions 11 to me.
- 38:16Ah, yeah. It's very poetic.
- 38:19Good call, good call. Look, a lot of nothing happens
- 38:23between episodes 4 through 8. No, you.
- 38:28You're telling me, yo, I'm like sitting there struggling.
- 38:32Come on, let's, let's get into the meat of it.
- 38:35Yes. Yeah.
- 38:36And it's not happening. It's not happening.
- 38:40We get a lot of back and forth with the tenants and you know,
- 38:44their shenanigans and I don't care.
- 38:46It's like, yeah. So I can't remember what episode
- 38:51this happens in. Maybe we haven't gotten there
- 38:53yet, but when? Maybe it's episode like 10
- 38:57because we're about to get there, but when they come down
- 39:00to like the aid of Vincenzo. Uh-huh.
- 39:04And then, like, they do like, those showing what they were in,
- 39:08like in their past. That's a lot like one of the
- 39:10last episodes. Never mind.
- 39:12Yeah, we'll talk about it later. We'll talk about, OK, well, in
- 39:15episode 8, I had a big qualm here because the undercover
- 39:19Homeland Security agent who's masquerading as the Italian
- 39:23chef's apprentice in the building, he says in voiceover.
- 39:27I finally realized why these people remained here and stood
- 39:30their ground. They were inspired by Vincenzo's
- 39:32strength and. Excellent leadership.
- 39:35That means vinchenzo isn't a mafia.
- 39:39He's not a mafia. He's Che Guevara.
- 39:45So, OK, so because somebody shows leadership potential,
- 39:49they're not mafia? Their Che Guevara.
- 39:55That doesn't really many issues. I have so many.
- 39:57I have so many issues with it. I just can't.
- 40:00There's no way to. So I don't think that's the case
- 40:04at all. Like, no, he's so wrong.
- 40:06Like on so many lovely completely.
- 40:08Because never do you feel like it is.
- 40:12He's inspiring a people for like, a true revolution.
- 40:15Not until later on. In the show.
- 40:18You don't. Not to mention she Guevara's a
- 40:20murderer. Well that too was killing his
- 40:22own people. So yeah that's that's also very
- 40:25true. There's that and and to say like
- 40:29you know he shows good leadership quality so he can't
- 40:32be mafia, that doesn't make sense either because most of the
- 40:36time you show the good leadership and you become.
- 40:40Part of the family. The head of the family.
- 40:42Like, right. You have to be some sort of
- 40:44charismatic person. Yeah, to lead a family.
- 40:47I think that is a. That's a line that doesn't make
- 40:50any sense. That doesn't make any sense.
- 40:52No, that was like, ooh, so bad. Do some research on Chegg Obata
- 40:55also, anyway. I think episode eight had some
- 41:00really good moments where he's trying to seduce the bank
- 41:04president who's like a closet homosexual.
- 41:08Do you remember this part? I remember it very, very low,
- 41:12yes, but yes. This scene of him riding the
- 41:15horse. I lost it.
- 41:18I lost it. It was.
- 41:19Suppose they knew what they were doing when they put some junkie
- 41:24on the horse in that getup. Of course they knew what they
- 41:27were doing. They knew exactly what they were
- 41:29doing. They were catering to a specific
- 41:31audience. And it was the same as, I don't
- 41:36know, same fan services, maybe like a shower scene or something
- 41:39and occasionally, yes. Or, you know, just a random
- 41:43moment where like, they touched the arm and then it goes into
- 41:45slow motion. They touch the arm and then say,
- 41:48Oh yeah, they do touch. You're getting it.
- 41:51You're getting it. It's, it's meant for something.
- 41:54And actually, that bank president is the 2nd male lead
- 41:57in this drama called our beloved summer, and he's tremendous in
- 42:01that and he's very. Endearing in that, and I feel
- 42:04really bad that he's so evil. And vinchenzo, he's really bad.
- 42:08Like he what was his deal? He wasn't just like a closet
- 42:12homosexual. He was actually kind of out and
- 42:15he was killing guys that didn't want anything to do with him.
- 42:19Like he would ask them out and then would just like beat them
- 42:21up. And in spite, for spite.
- 42:25They rejected him, right? They rejected him.
- 42:27Yeah, that's that's not a great way to handle rejection.
- 42:29It's crazy. So I like how he got his
- 42:32comeuppance. Of course.
- 42:34Of course they scare the shit out of him with the zombies.
- 42:37The zombie prank. Yep.
- 42:39Again, like this show, like, goes through different types of
- 42:44tones. Like, there are moments where
- 42:47things are getting really serious and then like, a zombie
- 42:51prank. It's so out of left field
- 42:55sometimes that you're just like, what am I watching?
- 42:58And then, you know, it tries to get back into it once again, it
- 43:02tries to get back into the Babble plot.
- 43:04So yeah. So I think that there's a lot of
- 43:07different weird, bizarre checkoff guns in the show, OK.
- 43:13Just mentioned the zombies, we just mentioned the zombies.
- 43:16So in the in an early episode, some of the tenants are learning
- 43:19how to be zombies in like a kind of like a dance studio because
- 43:23one of the tenants is a dancer and they're learning how to be
- 43:27zombies. They later on in episode 89,
- 43:30whatever, they all prank the gay bank president because he's got
- 43:35this extreme zombie phobia. So, like, why?
- 43:39You know, why introduce this weird zombie thing in an early
- 43:42episode, right? And then they use it again, the
- 43:45before tech is revealed to be the big bad.
- 43:48Yeah. He punishes the chair like his
- 43:50half brother on the ice rink, pelting him with ice hockey
- 43:54pucks and beating him with a stick.
- 43:55Right. Because there has to be.
- 43:57That's his. That's his method, yeah.
- 44:00But like, no, that's not what I thought, but that's not what I
- 44:04thought at all. But he, the half brother uses
- 44:06that method later on to punish like 3 executives after.
- 44:11It's a little bit of ice rink hockey torture and it's the same
- 44:14thing. Checkoffs.
- 44:17High ice hockey tech goes full send murdering one of the
- 44:22prosecutors with a hockey stick. And that I mean again.
- 44:27You keep they keep harping on this weird checkoffs gun.
- 44:33Like if we had it here, we have to have it here right for
- 44:36foreshadowing moment that they could bring up later and then of
- 44:41course here, Adam. That you have another ice hockey
- 44:45thing where Vinnie ends up with the half brother on the ice
- 44:50brother the face off with the Interpol agents.
- 44:53That it's it's you know whatever help us out.
- 44:55Like don't. Yeah.
- 44:58Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
- 45:00What did you think? I had a issue with this because
- 45:03they had this in a few episodes where Vinny seems to have.
- 45:07Also, I'm naming him. I'm nicknaming him Vinny, Vinny,
- 45:10for obvious reasons. Anyway, Vinny seems to have
- 45:13periodic nightmares and PTSD dreams about his past life as a
- 45:18violent, as a violent member of a Mafia family, and they never
- 45:21really returned to that. And they never deal with it.
- 45:26No, they don't really deal with that.
- 45:28And I found that to be disappointing because I would
- 45:31have liked to see like that recall of his memories to play
- 45:36out in a moment where you can see that his past is still
- 45:41affecting him now, where you can see him composed on everything,
- 45:46but that little moment can rear its ugly head.
- 45:50But we don't really get that in the show.
- 45:53We just. That it's more about
- 45:56understanding where he came from, but not really who he is.
- 46:00Ooh, that's that's the thing about like all those flashbacks
- 46:04to me at least. And then on top of that kind of
- 46:10related, there's this whole angle with his mother or.
- 46:16I don't know, maybe I'm. I'm kind of misremembering this,
- 46:20but like, it is his mother, but not they're not really like
- 46:23referencing each other that way. Am I missing remembering the way
- 46:28the mother interactions went? The mother interactions are?
- 46:34He never outright says, like, you're my mom, right?
- 46:36There we go. And she'd never outright says
- 46:39I'm your mom, right? So, I mean, it's unspoken,
- 46:45right? It's unspoken.
- 46:46So I don't understand how that's supposed to give us.
- 46:50Any indication of what the man he is today?
- 46:54Because of that relationship. Because if at least you would
- 46:57have told us or showed us that this really bothers him or this
- 47:02really changed him in the past to become the person that he is
- 47:06now, then I get that interaction between him and his mom.
- 47:11Maybe it's an ice cold relationship and all that, but
- 47:15the fact that we go to it a couple of times and we don't
- 47:18really get. A as a reason why it's
- 47:23referenced. And does it make him the man who
- 47:26he is? Is that?
- 47:28Is that the case? But more, it's just like, oh,
- 47:31this is just another aspect of his life that doesn't really
- 47:34have to do anything with. What's going on in the a story
- 47:38at all? I think that they had not that
- 47:42they had an opportunity, but they didn't take necessarily the
- 47:44easy route with his trauma and his back story.
- 47:51They like the mother. He never necessarily outright
- 47:55blames her, although there is tension there.
- 47:59And he does have stuff to work through because he's very
- 48:03hesitant to get involved in her life.
- 48:06In her case, yeah. But he knows that she needs him.
- 48:11He's that she's helpless and innocent in her, you know, life
- 48:16or whatever. And I think she does end up
- 48:20saying why she gave up her son, right?
- 48:24In like the one of the almost last episodes?
- 48:27I think she does, yes. I just don't remember what it
- 48:30was. Ohh, that's right.
- 48:31She was dying of lung cancer in the late 80s and she had a bad
- 48:37diagnosis or prognosis. And so she just gave up her son
- 48:42for adoption with the intention of if she gets better, she'll
- 48:47pick him up again, which is not how adoption works, but
- 48:52whatever. That's not why you put your kid
- 48:54in the system, but anyway. That was.
- 49:00The signal for him to basically forgive her because she had a
- 49:03good, good enough reason, I guess, to give him to give him
- 49:06up, which, yeah, I mean kind of kind of a good reason.
- 49:12Um, yeah. Impending death.
- 49:15Impending death. Yeah, that.
- 49:18You know what? Not a bad reason.
- 49:20That's not a bad reason to give him up.
- 49:21But it is very sad. Just added to the melancholy of
- 49:25the storyline. Melancholy.
- 49:29The tech goes further and further into mania, I feel,
- 49:34throughout the show. How did you feel about his
- 49:39characterization and him being the villain, and just not just
- 49:44his acting and portrayal, but like his motivations?
- 49:49Um, I. I was.
- 49:53I'll, I'll kick it off. So I was a little bit confused.
- 49:56Because they paint him as this psycho.
- 50:01They do great. He has killed multiple people,
- 50:05taken souvenirs off the bodies. He's collecting watches from the
- 50:10victims. And he seems kind of like a
- 50:14serial killer, but not not really, because all of the
- 50:18people that he killed, they offended him in some way.
- 50:21Like he's got a very short fuse. Terrible temper.
- 50:24Yeah, he does. I don't know.
- 50:26He is kind of like a serial killer.
- 50:28Ah, there's a vibe, there's a so there's a killer vibe to him.
- 50:33I and the reason why he stayed hidden and wasn't the face of
- 50:37the company and wasn't the true chairman.
- 50:40He was like the shadow chairman was because he valued his
- 50:44privacy and did not want to go down for any crimes that the
- 50:49company did. I do not blame him.
- 50:52That's smart. That's a smart move.
- 50:55Keep yourself out of like, the corporate affairs.
- 50:59But I think, OK, so here's what I do like, I do like that we
- 51:04show a character who has a quick temper, who could go like zero
- 51:11to 60. Immediately.
- 51:13And I like that in a villain because of the fact that you
- 51:17never know when the moment he's going to snap.
- 51:21Yeah, I do like that. And it it does give us a threat,
- 51:25and it gives us an impending threat whenever he's on screen
- 51:30because you never know. He's unpredictable.
- 51:32He's unpredictable. That could be the moment that he
- 51:36killed someone, or it could be the moment.
- 51:38Maybe he laughs it off and just moves it along.
- 51:42And I like that. I love when there's a bit of a
- 51:45chaos to a villain, right? Yeah.
- 51:50And maybe it's just. So maybe it's just me having
- 51:55this affinity for that type of character because I like like
- 51:59the Joker so much and like Batman, because he is chaotic,
- 52:04you never know how he's going to react to a situation.
- 52:07So I'd like that energy from a villain.
- 52:10So I found that to be something that I liked watching from him.
- 52:16So now in terms of him, kind of like not being the front of the
- 52:22company. But like still having kind of
- 52:24control and being able to like really bully his half brother
- 52:27and everything. Yeah, I think that was a good
- 52:30dynamic as well, because then you have a sympathetic character
- 52:35inside of the villain plot. Hmm gives us a way to be able to
- 52:41be like ohh if something changes here that can change the the
- 52:45whole outcome. And right he's a wild card.
- 52:48He's a wild card. So and luckily for us that's
- 52:52kind of what happens here. So.
- 52:55Overall, I really like the portrayal of the character.
- 52:58I'm not going to sit here and say the best villain, but I
- 53:02still think it's an engaging villain and enjoyable villain to
- 53:07watch. Here's I'll go out on a limb and
- 53:10say if they had tightened up the tone and made it the dark mafia
- 53:17thriller that they had promised us in the first sequence of the
- 53:20show, that this villain would have worked a lot better because
- 53:24they would have pared down some of the.
- 53:26Ridiculousness. Some of the like screaming in
- 53:28the car, kind of tantrums that he's throwing and really dialed
- 53:33it into a polished strategist and a chaotic villain.
- 53:39Yes, which we do get glimpses of throughout.
- 53:41But because of the tone of the show and the way that they kind
- 53:44of had him bouncing off the walls and having tantrums, the
- 53:48tantrums really threw me. OK, so I will agree with you,
- 53:51the tantrums are a little out there.
- 53:55They're they're a little much we don't really need to like full
- 53:59on thing. I think 1 tantrum is fine.
- 54:01Oh, true, yeah. But multiple.
- 54:04It starts to get into a little bit of overkill.
- 54:06Then you don't. Yeah, really take the character
- 54:09as seriously as you should, because he's constantly on a
- 54:13tantrum. He's a murderer, he's a
- 54:15murderer, he's a fiend. Like, he's dead.
- 54:21He's a fiend. Yeah.
- 54:24In episode nine, he kills the one of the prosecutors with a
- 54:26hockey stick. You don't see it coming.
- 54:28No, they don't see it coming. They don't.
- 54:30And they kill off a witness who was trying to make a deal with
- 54:34Babel and a handful of the victim.
- 54:37The victims family, like they killed innocent people.
- 54:41The ones that ended up in the in a van.
- 54:44And they suffocated them, essentially crazy.
- 54:49When as soon as that episode happened, I was like.
- 54:52Damn, that's cold. Cold.
- 54:54That's cold. Very cold.
- 54:56Speaking of cold, we got a quote in episode 10.
- 54:58Keep your heart cold. Revenge will go more smoothly
- 55:01that way. Oh, oh, not a bad.
- 55:04That's a good life. So in episode 10, we get a
- 55:09Netflix hallway fight. With the laundromat Taylor going
- 55:15apeshit on the on the hired thugs that they get.
- 55:19It's a second round of hired thugs as the first round was
- 55:21goofy, right? The second round are legitimate,
- 55:24yeah. And he comes at them with a pair
- 55:27of the shears. The shears, and just try and he
- 55:30starts stabbing them with the fabric shears, bro, bro.
- 55:33That was good. That was good.
- 55:35That was good. That was a good sequence.
- 55:37Just like those quick stabs. I'm just like, I know I'm
- 55:40looking. And I'm just like, oh shit, he's
- 55:42like really stabbing him. Yes, this is real.
- 55:46Blood is being spilt. Finally.
- 55:48Yeah, finally. But that same episode, the
- 55:53tenants play the Mafia game on game.
- 55:55Right. Oh, yeah.
- 55:57I forgot. They have a bunch of references
- 56:00to other K dramas and it's kind of a reunion.
- 56:02So the wrestler, Beanie Man, as I called him, and my notes, he
- 56:10calls one of the thugs who's in the travel agency.
- 56:14They're sending people in hot air balloons across borders.
- 56:19Do you remember, do you remember that?
- 56:20Yes. Yes.
- 56:20Yeah. That was the first round of
- 56:22hired thugs. Thugs.
- 56:23Then they become like travel agent, to quote UN quote.
- 56:26He calls one of those thugs appoxee to ye wannabe which is a
- 56:31reference to poxon Jens character in Itaewon class ohh
- 56:35OK who has the same God awful hairstyle.
- 56:40It's terrible. So that's if you had seen Ethan
- 56:43one class, you would be like, Oh my God, he does look like
- 56:45tuxedo. Yeah.
- 56:46I would have been able to be like ohh yeah no totally makes
- 56:48sense. No.
- 56:50Then that thugs fires back that the Beanie guy looks like a
- 56:54North Korean soldier. Bro, do you know who that guy
- 56:57is? He's part of the cloud crew.
- 56:59Crash landing on you. Yes.
- 57:01Ohh. OK.
- 57:03So that's OK. So that's a clear reference to
- 57:06the other show. OK yeah it's a reference to.
- 57:10Crash landing on you. So I really like when when stuff
- 57:13like that happens in TV. Yeah.
- 57:15Or just in movies where they reference another persons like
- 57:19show that they did somewhere else.
- 57:21That's always great. I love when they do that.
- 57:24And there's actually two people from Crash landing on you.
- 57:26Now that I think about it. There's the beanie guy.
- 57:29OK, and the Homeland Security dude?
- 57:34Yeah, he was also in crashing on you.
- 57:36He was like the insurance agent who was desperately looking for
- 57:39her because he didn't want her to.
- 57:41He didn't want any harm to come to her, right?
- 57:43You know, she gave him a lot of business and she was, he was
- 57:46really grateful for her. So two Loy alum.
- 57:50Yeah, two cloy alums. Yeah.
- 57:53Nice. What do you think of episode 11?
- 57:55They call him mafia corn salad. This is a gross mispronunciation
- 58:03of conciliary. I mean, look, this show is just.
- 58:08Going from town to town like I get if they're if they're doing
- 58:13it like in in a way of just making fun of him type of way.
- 58:17Yeah yeah. You know like I I get it.
- 58:20You know they can do it that way.
- 58:22But if they're not really making fun of them it's just that they
- 58:25can't pronounce it type of thing then it's something else.
- 58:27Then it's just like this is not great but if they're doing it I
- 58:32thought it was funny but they kept doing it though they knew
- 58:36what they were doing so no. Yeah.
- 58:38But then yeah, so then it it felt they had the banner with
- 58:41the corn salad. Yeah, as it kept going, I was
- 58:43like, you know what? This is actually not a bad joke.
- 58:49Ohh man so I didn't get this. The arms dealer slash lobbyist
- 58:53who got the good Intel for tech in Italy?
- 58:55Yes on vinchenzo. Vinchenzo captures them and and
- 59:00he goes, the guy goes, I've been tortured by like, this is a
- 59:04paraphrasing. He's like I've been tortured by
- 59:05the ruffian, the ruffian, the Russian mafia, and all these
- 59:10other major players. This isn't my first rodeo,
- 59:13essentially is what the guy says to Vinny, and Vinny says there's
- 59:17a limit to pain, but there's no limit to fear.
- 59:21And he starts playing Russian roulette with him with a like a
- 59:23revolver. Which you're telling me that a
- 59:27few rounds of Russian roulette with the revolver is scaring
- 59:30this guy shitless enough to for him to sing like a Canary?
- 59:34I think it could scare anyone because there's a difference
- 59:37between being tortured, right? I get being tortured is
- 59:42terrible. So you bought it, you bought
- 59:44this because I think the difference is that one.
- 59:48Pull the trigger and you're dead.
- 59:51Not tortured, you're dead. So there's a difference between
- 59:57being tortured for information and you withholding versus, hey,
- 1:00:02if you give me the information or you don't give me the
- 1:00:05information, you're going to be dead.
- 1:00:08That's a different, he was going nuts with the revolver though
- 1:00:11because he was also doing like A2 faced thing.
- 1:00:14Yeah, where he was spinning the, spinning the trigger the and
- 1:00:17then pointing the gun at his own head.
- 1:00:19Vinny was like gonna commit suicide crazy.
- 1:00:24Crazy. Like like you said, we saw that.
- 1:00:27We saw it in. We saw it in Dark, Man.
- 1:00:34Yo, episode 12, they have this impressions guy.
- 1:00:36They're dealing with someone at the old law firm.
- 1:00:40Man, I forgot the name of the law firm, but anyway.
- 1:00:42The evil law firm, right? And he's like, I want to get out
- 1:00:45of this law firm, whatever they're dealing with and they
- 1:00:48want info from him and they're like, why don't you give us
- 1:00:50another impersonation impression of sunkyung?
- 1:00:55Do you know that is? Ethan Kian.
- 1:01:00And he does the voice exactly like him.
- 1:01:02It's the guy from parasite. Ohh OK the husband with a really
- 1:01:07deep voice. Yeah.
- 1:01:09Yeah. He does a spot on impression of
- 1:01:12him from parasite. Gotcha.
- 1:01:14And he kept he did like two or three times in the show did.
- 1:01:17But I I didn't. I was hoping you would catch it.
- 1:01:19Yeah I didn't catch it. Was hoping you would catch it.
- 1:01:21That's on me. Yeah.
- 1:01:23Yeah. You someone is also from the
- 1:01:25drama. Yeah.
- 1:01:26You should have. He's also from the drama my Mr
- 1:01:29So we're looking for sunken and your K dramas.
- 1:01:31He's also from my mystery. Just in case you want to move.
- 1:01:34This is funny. This is a.
- 1:01:39The K drama the tech is watching on his TV.
- 1:01:42You would never get this because you don't know who 2:00 PM is,
- 1:01:45but he's watching a drama on the television.
- 1:01:48The drama is completely made-up. It's not a real K drama, right?
- 1:01:51It's his two bandmates from 2:00 PM's Chansung and Nickhun.
- 1:01:59What's funny is Nick Hoon went on a podcast A while back and he
- 1:02:04was talking about this this cameo that he made with Trent
- 1:02:07Song and he was like, yeah, tech was like.
- 1:02:11Ohh, come and do this, you know. Cameo for me and the show,
- 1:02:17whatever they're like. Yeah, yeah, sure.
- 1:02:18Anything for tech. So they go and they thought that
- 1:02:21tech was going to be in the scene with them, or at least on
- 1:02:23set. Never happened.
- 1:02:25They just showed up to do their scene.
- 1:02:26Tech was never there. Wow.
- 1:02:31Which I found hysterical. That's pretty funny.
- 1:02:33Definitely check out that. God, I think it was a dive
- 1:02:36studios thing. Maybe it was the Eric Nam
- 1:02:40podcasts where Nick couldn't came and talked about that
- 1:02:43experience of going up with chainsaw man.
- 1:02:46I found that hysterical that that's something I would do
- 1:02:48where I'd be like, yeah man, come and come and do a cameo
- 1:02:53scene for my show or whatever. And then I like don't show up.
- 1:02:56Don't show up at all. That's really don't show up to
- 1:02:59support your bandmates. Oh yeah, it's so good.
- 1:03:02Episode 13. I really liked the pig blood.
- 1:03:05Carrie. Ted talk.
- 1:03:07Where they dump a bunch of pigs. Blood on tech.
- 1:03:09That's good. Oh my God that was a good one.
- 1:03:11That's a good one. I didn't like this.
- 1:03:14This is when I started to lose it.
- 1:03:16Episode 14. The piano teacher who's also got
- 1:03:19a studio in Gunga Plaza, happens to be the programmer who
- 1:03:24designed the vault. OK, so this is my problem with
- 1:03:28the people. The tenants in this building,
- 1:03:31they all have, like, these secret past lives where they're
- 1:03:36all like, perfectly suited for what they need.
- 1:03:40Like, they got the wrestler, they got this hacker.
- 1:03:43That a former mixed martial artist thinking, yeah, like
- 1:03:48conveniently all these people live in the same exact building.
- 1:03:52And it it really drove me up the wall.
- 1:03:55Like this cannot be true. This cannot be real.
- 1:03:58And yet it is. Yep.
- 1:04:01That was the that was a moment where I'm like, OK, the show is
- 1:04:05going to. It's too convenient.
- 1:04:07It's too convenient. Yeah.
- 1:04:09Hey, this one person who has never demonstrated any abilities
- 1:04:13about this is a master at it. Yeah, so.
- 1:04:18So this is something that I think a lot of people.
- 1:04:21Have a problem with when they're watching something and then
- 1:04:26something is introduced out of nowhere?
- 1:04:29Yeah, in the middle of a story. I get that some people have a
- 1:04:33problem when it starts off and people have like, this amazing
- 1:04:37skill. That doesn't bother me because
- 1:04:39you're at least showing me from the very beginning.
- 1:04:42This person is skilled at this thing.
- 1:04:45Whether you find it believable or not, it doesn't matter.
- 1:04:48From the beginning they establish it.
- 1:04:50But here. Episode.
- 1:04:52What episode? 1414.
- 1:04:54And now? Yeah, is 1.
- 1:04:56We're gonna get ohh. By the way, she's a hacker like
- 1:04:59that doesn't that doesn't compute.
- 1:05:01But that doesn't compute. Alright.
- 1:05:03But yeah, yeah, I found that each reveal, each reveal for the
- 1:05:07incredibly adept Plaza tenants just gets more outrageous every
- 1:05:12time. Silly.
- 1:05:13And then, like, they do like that, like that plastering of
- 1:05:16like, they show a picture of like, their past life type of
- 1:05:20thing, which still like, that got to me.
- 1:05:23Like I started. I kind of started laughing
- 1:05:25because I was just like, you gotta be kidding me.
- 1:05:28Yeah. So the guillotine file.
- 1:05:32Ohh yeah, being another Mcguffin Mcguffin.
- 1:05:36Yeah, that along with like a bunch of gold.
- 1:05:40What's funny is that I think. Let me see.
- 1:05:44Yeah, Gunga Plaza gum means gold in Korean.
- 1:05:48There we go. So so Gold Plaza.
- 1:05:52Ohh cool. Not on the nose at all.
- 1:05:55Not on the nose at all. Ohh man so ohh man let's talk
- 1:06:00about chemistry right now. Because in episode 14 they go to
- 1:06:03the museum under this whole undercover thing and they kiss
- 1:06:08at the museum they do. And there's like this proposal
- 1:06:12that they walked into. They had no idea that the couple
- 1:06:15they were masquerading as were coming for a proposal.
- 1:06:19What did you think of this whole scene?
- 1:06:21Um, the scene, I mean worked for me.
- 1:06:26It worked, it worked. I think it's good.
- 1:06:30I think we need at the moment where they finally kissed.
- 1:06:34So. Important for a show.
- 1:06:38You know for me, like if you're going to have a, you know,
- 1:06:41flirtation, romance between 2 characters.
- 1:06:45Make sure you build it out and get to that moment where they
- 1:06:48finally kiss, because they need to get there, they need to get
- 1:06:52there. So I'm glad it's not one of
- 1:06:55those things where they like wait till like the end of the
- 1:06:57show. You need to know you need to
- 1:07:00have that tension. That tension has to be there.
- 1:07:02OK, I didn't feel much tension. Throughout the show.
- 1:07:06But they did have that one scene where she was like, I think I'm,
- 1:07:09I caught feelings for you, but I don't know.
- 1:07:11And she was kind of drunk. And then she was like, let me
- 1:07:13see if I have feelings for you. She gets up and hugs him.
- 1:07:18And you can tell that he's caught feelings, yes?
- 1:07:21And then she's like, Oh no, I was mistaken.
- 1:07:24And it's just, you know. I didn't definitely didn't catch
- 1:07:28feelings for you exactly. And that's a I found out funny.
- 1:07:32It was funny. A funny sequence there, but you
- 1:07:35know that it's gonna. Progress.
- 1:07:38Kind of progress. Hmm.
- 1:07:40So I thought ohh, go for it. No, no, go ahead.
- 1:07:43Go right ahead. OK.
- 1:07:45I was gonna talk about the pigeons.
- 1:07:47Because. We we had episode 15, but OK.
- 1:07:53A horde of angry pigeons assails the mafia assassins like
- 1:07:57something out of a Hitchcock movie.
- 1:07:59Yeah, that, and it's awful. I hated it.
- 1:08:01It was awful. Yeah.
- 1:08:02Yeah. I thought we were going to get
- 1:08:04past that without even talking about it.
- 1:08:06Ohh. Uh, no, no.
- 1:08:13Yeah no. Then we get a Lord the rings
- 1:08:15reference from tech. He's I think he's talking about
- 1:08:17the guillotine file. He says 1 ring to rule them all
- 1:08:20my precious. Oh my God.
- 1:08:22But yes he is talking about the guillotine file at that moment.
- 1:08:25Yeah, doesn't really work. Righteous prosecutor that they
- 1:08:30were teaming up with for a couple of episodes portrays
- 1:08:32them. He was just after something big
- 1:08:33enough to barter his way up the chain, you know, that was a
- 1:08:37given. Yeah, they had this whole
- 1:08:39analogy before where they're talking about is this apple
- 1:08:42rotten if one side is fine and the other side is a little bit
- 1:08:46rotten, is the whole apple rotten?
- 1:08:48Talking about the prosecution service and the legal, you know,
- 1:08:51system here in Korea and the guy was like, no, it's not rotten or
- 1:08:57whatever. And they were just trying to
- 1:08:58make a point. Like they can't trust him,
- 1:09:00right? Because he's part of the
- 1:09:01problem. He's in the prosecution service,
- 1:09:03which is bought off by the Babel, so he ends up turning
- 1:09:08turning bad. Not surprising at all.
- 1:09:11Not surprising at all. No, no surprise.
- 1:09:14I think the final four episodes are pretty good.
- 1:09:17Yes, I was gonna say we can jump into the final four and the
- 1:09:21finale sequence. Yeah, sequences of episodes.
- 1:09:24Because tech kills his mom in episode 16.
- 1:09:29They got some brute straight out of prison to stranglehold.
- 1:09:31They're poor. The poor frail woman couldn't
- 1:09:33fight back. She was dying of pancreatic
- 1:09:36cancer. I mean, it was despicable.
- 1:09:39And. Tech is shown dancing with the
- 1:09:41lawyer Ajima, gloating and laughing like it's just like
- 1:09:46terrible. Terrible person, really sinister
- 1:09:48stuff. Speaking of the lawyer, Ajima.
- 1:09:53I think that there was sexual tension between Technion and
- 1:10:01Troy Mungi. The lawyer oh, what do you say
- 1:10:05to that? Hmm.
- 1:10:10I can kind of see it. I can kind of, you can kind of,
- 1:10:13I can kind of see it. I was like, what is this?
- 1:10:15What is this feeling between tech and the lawyer, hajima?
- 1:10:21I'm just like, what is this here?
- 1:10:24There was like a not just a camaraderie, but like kind of an
- 1:10:27understanding because they're both dirty, they're both awful.
- 1:10:31And it goes beyond him being her superior or her boss or
- 1:10:36whatever. They kind of start to even the
- 1:10:38playing field. Between them.
- 1:10:40The, you know, distance between their positions and they kind of
- 1:10:44see eye to eye and they start working together and their
- 1:10:48scenes together start getting a little more intimate.
- 1:10:51I feel like those, you know like I just OK, I was wondering if
- 1:10:56that was just me thinking there was there was some tension in
- 1:11:00the room. OK, I agree.
- 1:11:04Episode 18 they introduced another major villain player
- 1:11:09late in the game with the presidential candidates, right.
- 1:11:11I hate. What was this?
- 1:11:14Yeah, I hate when you introduce someone way too late in the
- 1:11:17game. Yeah.
- 1:11:19This is ridiculous. And this is what happened. 2
- 1:11:21episodes left. Yo, dude, it's happened in other
- 1:11:25shows where like, they. I think that's bad writing.
- 1:11:27It's terrible, right? It's like, it's bad.
- 1:11:29How do we introduce this plot point or whatever?
- 1:11:32It's like, well, we can introduce it with these
- 1:11:34characters we already have. Let's just bring someone new.
- 1:11:38Doesn't make that. Goes to show that this could
- 1:11:40have been cut down to 16 episodes.
- 1:11:42Easy. Yes.
- 1:11:43Another reason. Easy.
- 1:11:45Yes. Yeah.
- 1:11:46OK. Yeah.
- 1:11:48We digress. Tech is in jail because Vinnie
- 1:11:50backed him into a corner and he thought with for protection,
- 1:11:53I'll just go in jail so Vinnie doesn't kill me.
- 1:11:56He ends up walking right into a trap because that's what Benny
- 1:11:59wanted, that's what he wanted. And it's really not until
- 1:12:03episode 19 where we see the full might of the Vincenzo Cassano
- 1:12:10family where it's revealed because we have another hallway
- 1:12:15fight Ala Netflix the Plaza. Residents are all former
- 1:12:19athletes of some kind, and they had applicable fighting skills.
- 1:12:23MMA, Wrestling, and all this other stuff.
- 1:12:26Just like, yeah, weightlifting, weightlifting, yeah, well, just
- 1:12:30so many. Different magically having the
- 1:12:35ability to. Everyone's a superhero.
- 1:12:37I thought this was kind of like ohh, they're all superheroes.
- 1:12:39Yeah, they're pretty much you. Avengers have assembled.
- 1:12:42Yeah, bomb. That's the only thing that was
- 1:12:46missing when they come down the hallway.
- 1:12:51We should recut it with The Avengers theme.
- 1:12:55Ohh man. Ohh.
- 1:12:56That would be OK. So we're not we're not liking
- 1:13:00it, but we'll take it. Episode 20, Chai Hong.
- 1:13:03Chau Hong. Oh my God, I'm having such a
- 1:13:06tough time remembering her name. Chai Young Cha young, OK, she
- 1:13:10gets shot. And I thought, oh, they're going
- 1:13:14to. I honestly thought for a second,
- 1:13:17what do you think? They were going to kill her off
- 1:13:19and there was like gonna be a. Bad ending for that romance and
- 1:13:22for just that, that where you think they won.
- 1:13:26And then at the end there was like that final retribution from
- 1:13:30the villains. I thought they were going to do
- 1:13:34it. I didn't see her dying, but I
- 1:13:38did see her definitely getting hurt because she'd been
- 1:13:41unscathed this whole time. Makes sense.
- 1:13:43Yeah. Even Vinchenzo was in a coma
- 1:13:45and, like, recovered. Yeah, perfectly fine.
- 1:13:47But whatever. He got hurt.
- 1:13:50The younger brother, the half brother actually died.
- 1:13:54He's the one that dies. I thought that he would have,
- 1:13:59wouldn't survive. I thought he might have
- 1:14:01survived, but he outright died. I felt awful.
- 1:14:04That was so emotional for me to see him go.
- 1:14:07Yeah, that was because he was such an endearing character.
- 1:14:10Like he turned out to be someone you could root for.
- 1:14:13Exactly. And that that's the big deal, is
- 1:14:15that he was the lone green growing out of a bad situation.
- 1:14:24Corrupt. Yeah.
- 1:14:26So atmosphere seeing that, not being rewarded.
- 1:14:31Was a bit heartbreaking, for sure.
- 1:14:33Yeah. Especially after they kind of
- 1:14:34made it seem like he found a brother in Vinny and that Vinny
- 1:14:39was a surrogate family. Yeah, for him.
- 1:14:43Somebody. And that was terrible.
- 1:14:45And yeah, work with and everything.
- 1:14:47Yeah, that. That was someone who wasn't
- 1:14:49gonna belittle him and abuse him and bully him.
- 1:14:52Exactly. Make him think he was going to
- 1:14:54die at all this stuff. He's just.
- 1:14:56Yeah, that was a painful, brutal.
- 1:14:58People lost for the show. Then we get a lot of off of off
- 1:15:03things in this last episode because there is a giant
- 1:15:06reckoning, reckoning which finally happens.
- 1:15:09Bang Bang bang. The corrupt prosecutor who we
- 1:15:12referred to prior, he gets his ass dumped off a roof.
- 1:15:17The chief prosecutor, who's now the chief prosecutor, he was the
- 1:15:21lawyer with glasses, that man. He got shanked on the steps of
- 1:15:26the courthouse, bled all over the stone in front of the camera
- 1:15:30crew that. Was there.
- 1:15:31I mean it was very graphic. I found with like the blood,
- 1:15:35like dripping down the steps and stuff.
- 1:15:37I was like, Oh my God, they they really went after it in this
- 1:15:40final episode of just like really just upping it up.
- 1:15:44Yeah, yeah, yeah. They upped the ante a bit.
- 1:15:47They did, yeah. And served it back finally to
- 1:15:50the villains and the lawyer, Ojima.
- 1:15:53What do you think of her? Comeuppance.
- 1:15:54Because he. Kidnapped her.
- 1:15:59Tighter to a chair. Barefoot.
- 1:16:01Yep. He had already done something to
- 1:16:03her feet. It looked like, yeah, there was
- 1:16:06her barefoot. Yeah, there was something that
- 1:16:08he did. She her.
- 1:16:09She was already bleeding and in pain from her feet.
- 1:16:13Then he said he was going to make her dance.
- 1:16:15And I thought, Oh my God, what is he going to do?
- 1:16:17Signature Vinny Pyro move. He lights her ass on fire.
- 1:16:21Lights are on fire. Ohh.
- 1:16:23And I was like. Well, how?
- 1:16:26Well, if you think about back in the court case, he kind of lets
- 1:16:32them like kind of. Get out of it like they win the
- 1:16:36court case, right? But the people that he wants
- 1:16:40specific retribution on, they don't get like the full
- 1:16:45comeuppance of the law. They get to come up dance of
- 1:16:48vinchenzo. Yes.
- 1:16:51And that's what he really wanted.
- 1:16:52He wanted them to suffer the way he he wanted them to suffer.
- 1:16:57Yeah. And I love that aspect of the
- 1:16:59show where he's repeatedly like if I wanted you dead, I would
- 1:17:02have killed you. I would have killed you by now.
- 1:17:04I would have killed you. I.
- 1:17:06And what was his nickname? They said he said his nickname
- 1:17:08was like Cat Gotham or something because he always plays with his
- 1:17:13food like a cat does. Yeah.
- 1:17:16Yeah. But and that's what he was doing
- 1:17:18the whole thing. You last few episodes.
- 1:17:20Just toying with them, toying with them.
- 1:17:21He wouldn't like. He would kill everyone around
- 1:17:24them just to show like. I'm not going to kill you yet,
- 1:17:28because you deserve something worse and stuff like that.
- 1:17:31This is worse. Definitely worse.
- 1:17:33Actually worse. The Olympic wrestler, the Beanie
- 1:17:37Man, he got full on, stabbed in the chest.
- 1:17:40Yes, he did. And while he was gasping for
- 1:17:42breath, what does he do? He asked Vinnie to be the
- 1:17:45godfather of his baby. Come on.
- 1:17:50The godfather. Come on.
- 1:17:53Come on, come on. Then he finally gets tech in a
- 1:18:00Russian mafia torture device like something out of saw yeah
- 1:18:04ohh the movie The movie franchise.
- 1:18:06And tech starts begging, begging for his life or for him to just
- 1:18:11shoot him. Yeah, and Vinny even takes his
- 1:18:14watch as a trophy, takes tachyons watch as a trophy and
- 1:18:19just walks off. He's like, yeah, every 5 minutes
- 1:18:22this thing's going to start drilling into your body and
- 1:18:24you're going to die a very painful death.
- 1:18:25And I was like, whoa, he was messing around.
- 1:18:31He wasn't messing around, dude. He wasn't messing around.
- 1:18:36Yeah, I do like that. They show tech like the next day
- 1:18:41and he looks really weak and bloodied up and there's this
- 1:18:45crow there that starts pecking at his body.
- 1:18:49Why did I think of the lighthouse?
- 1:18:53Tell me why I thought of the lighthouse with Robert Pattinson
- 1:18:56and Oh my God, what's his name? William dofo.
- 1:19:01Oh my God. Yeah, yeah I can.
- 1:19:05It's very Greek tragedy of them. Ohh.
- 1:19:08I guess another thing it kind of reminds me of is when I well
- 1:19:12this is like a Game of Thrones thing where.
- 1:19:17Villain finally like gets his comeuppance and he's like tied
- 1:19:20to a chair and he's already bloodied and everything from
- 1:19:23like the battle in the war and as a last fu to him.
- 1:19:30Like they release his hounds. And they're like, yeah, would
- 1:19:34never like bite me then whatever.
- 1:19:37It's like they haven't eaten watch days.
- 1:19:41How loyal is that for going to really be?
- 1:19:44And so then just before like they show the dog attack.
- 1:19:49Like they cut away to Sophie Turner's reaction and she like
- 1:19:55kind of like in disgust, kind of like turns, but then she like
- 1:19:58turns back and watches it all like pleasure, like it.
- 1:20:04Yeah, it's really good. Damn.
- 1:20:08Damn. Well, one thing that I liked
- 1:20:10about the show is that they did this more and more throughout
- 1:20:13towards, especially in the last few episodes as they were kind
- 1:20:15of taking a page out of the Ocean's 11 playbook where they
- 1:20:19showed some of the planning, yes, but when it came to the
- 1:20:22execution, they showed the final product, which was extraordinary
- 1:20:25and shocking, and then backed up and showed you how they pulled
- 1:20:28it off for real. I like when when movies and
- 1:20:32shows do that. Show us the planning, then the
- 1:20:35end result. Yeah.
- 1:20:37And then go back and show us how the end result actually went
- 1:20:39through. That's really, yeah, I love that
- 1:20:42device as a way of like explaining a story.
- 1:20:46That's a really good way of going about it.
- 1:20:48Yeah, so they did that in the later episodes, especially um.
- 1:20:53He gets out of Korea, he's got, you know, bounty on his head,
- 1:20:56whatever, the governments after him.
- 1:20:58And he ends up sneaking back into Korea after a year.
- 1:21:02And he tells Chiung, Oh my God, if I get her name wrong.
- 1:21:06One child. Yeah, it is triune.
- 1:21:08You got it. OK he tells her that he took
- 1:21:11over the family and he bought an island off Malta and he missed
- 1:21:15her. And she ends up scoffing at
- 1:21:18that, that she that he missed her.
- 1:21:20And so to prove that he missed her, he kisses her and they
- 1:21:23make. Out on the stairs and I have in
- 1:21:24my notes. Love it.
- 1:21:29Love it. No, it was a good.
- 1:21:32Love that for them it was a good sequence.
- 1:21:34Yes, yes. Yeah, it was good.
- 1:21:36It was good. Now I don't know how to feel
- 1:21:39about the final voiceover cuz he says he used three family
- 1:21:44members from a different Mafia family as fertilizer for his
- 1:21:48vineyard. He doesn't care about justice
- 1:21:51since justice is weak and empty. If justice was merciless, then
- 1:21:56he'd yield to it. He swears he's still a villain.
- 1:22:00And the final line of the whole show is evil is prevalent and
- 1:22:04vehement, which is delivered in Italian, right?
- 1:22:09I don't mind him showing himself as, yeah, I am a villain, I
- 1:22:16don't mind it right because at the end of the day, like he
- 1:22:20still has like that mafia connection to him.
- 1:22:24You know, he still has like that influence of mafia in him.
- 1:22:28So yeah, I don't. I don't see a problem.
- 1:22:32I thought that it would be a little.
- 1:22:36I don't know. I thought it would be a mixed
- 1:22:38tone, just like the rest of the show.
- 1:22:40This went full dark, like this was the tone that I wanted
- 1:22:43throughout the whole show. Like I wanted a fucking noir.
- 1:22:46Yes. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:22:48I know. That's what I wanted.
- 1:22:49This wasn't, and it wasn't. OK.
- 1:22:51This wasn't that. But the ending had a noir
- 1:22:53ending, so to speak. It did, you know.
- 1:22:57Yeah. And so I can understand it.
- 1:22:59So if you look at the show bookend, so if you look at the
- 1:23:03very beginning and the very end, and that is the only thing you
- 1:23:06saw, you would assume that the show, the entire show was a
- 1:23:09noir. And it doesn't really go that
- 1:23:12way. Throughout the show, the show
- 1:23:15changes into something completely different.
- 1:23:18So I get the weird tonal shift and kind of like the
- 1:23:22disappointment of the way it ends, like in that regard,
- 1:23:26because they never. Completes its promise on what we
- 1:23:30thought it would be. Hmm.
- 1:23:32And then it rubs it in your face with the ending.
- 1:23:36So I get it OK. But I liked it.
- 1:23:41I liked it. I liked the show overall.
- 1:23:43Anyway. Overall, I like the show.
- 1:23:45I think it's a good show. I have come to the end of my
- 1:23:47notes. What else did you have to say?
- 1:23:49Ohh Cadillac product placement. Yep, evidently everyone in Korea
- 1:23:54has catalogs, of course. Of course they do.
- 1:23:57Also fun product placement with the Coco Copaco coffee tablets.
- 1:24:04I particularly laughed when someone was like they wake me
- 1:24:06up. Did they give you that from
- 1:24:10coffee? Kopiko.
- 1:24:11Kopiko is that they say they must have just like yeah ohh,
- 1:24:16they wake you up. OK, Umm, terrible.
- 1:24:20It feels like in Truman show when they're having an argument
- 1:24:24and then she has like the commercial and he just goes
- 1:24:27where? Who are you talking to?
- 1:24:30Who are you talking to? That's literally how I feel when
- 1:24:32the product placement is over. I that.
- 1:24:35I defer to that in my head. I'm just like who are you
- 1:24:38talking to? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:24:39Truman Show, who are you talking about?
- 1:24:43That's a good one. Ohh man.
- 1:24:46Alright, on the show itself, I don't think I have anything else
- 1:24:53I do like. I mean everybody was dressed so
- 1:24:56well throughout the show. I mean the main players and the
- 1:25:00Boo rauru Rove suits that were on Vincenzo Sharps on Vincenzo.
- 1:25:08Yeah, great stuff. Just great stuff.
- 1:25:12We're doing the Italians like, yeah.
- 1:25:16Just hand gesture. What is that?
- 1:25:18What do you call that? Oh my God.
- 1:25:21I don't know what the hand gesture, it's definitely it's
- 1:25:24like the hand gesture that goes with like chef's kids, like it
- 1:25:27goes with chef's kiss and yeah exactly.
- 1:25:32Yeah. So that hand gesture, I mean, he
- 1:25:35is Vincenzo Cassano. Yeah.
- 1:25:38So it goes well with it. So, yeah, yeah, overall, good
- 1:25:41show. Yeah, wish there was more noir.
- 1:25:46Wish there was a little more serious tone throughout the
- 1:25:50show. I don't mind injecting some
- 1:25:52comedy, but not like at all these different weird levels
- 1:25:57that it did. So yeah, so I think this shows
- 1:26:03good. It's a good show.
- 1:26:04Where would you rank it? Where did you say you would rank
- 1:26:06it? Four or five?
- 1:26:07I want to say like 4K5 on my cage dramas because there's
- 1:26:10other ones that I watched thoroughly, but when I think
- 1:26:13about them like, I lost a little bit.
- 1:26:16For them you know. So this one I think I had a good
- 1:26:20spot like #5, but I gotta look at the shows again because my
- 1:26:26clear number one is signal. It is.
- 1:26:31You love saying that. It was a great show.
- 1:26:33You're like, Yep, I thought it was a great show.
- 1:26:36So. But yeah, nice.
- 1:26:40Alright, I think that's all we have for vinchenzo.
- 1:26:44Yeah, I think we went through the show.
- 1:26:46Pretty well. We gave it a thorough rundown.
- 1:26:49Yes we did. It was.
- 1:26:51Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:26:52Anyway, I think we're just going to get out of here.
- 1:26:54Rigo, please say a word to everyone who is wishing you well
- 1:26:58and loves to hear you on the show.
- 1:27:01Ohh. Yeah, of course.
- 1:27:02So thank you to everyone who has supported the show who has asked
- 1:27:09about me and me being off the show for such a long time.
- 1:27:14Health was part of it, but also. My my job kind of keeps me away
- 1:27:19from this part of this, from this part of the aspect of
- 1:27:23always the critics. So again, much appreciated.
- 1:27:25Thank you for all the support that you show Jessica on daybook
- 1:27:30for showing us support on always a critic.
- 1:27:33Overall it is something that it does not go unnoticed.
