- 0:04Speaker 1: Well, hey, praise the Lord.
- 0:15Speaker 2: I am Michael Jackson. Welcome to The Bible Speaks Live.
- 0:20Speaker 2: This is our Hot Topic Tuesday. We're glad you could
- 0:22Speaker 2: join us. Once again, as we are here opening up
- 0:25Speaker 2: the Word of God, today we are continuing in our study.
- 0:30Speaker 2: And we are looking at our study of Once saved,
- 0:33Speaker 2: always saved debate. I don't want to call it a debate,
- 0:38Speaker 2: but the church is not in agreement on this particular point.
- 0:44Speaker 2: And we're going to explore it. We're going to look
- 0:46Speaker 2: at it. And we're going to lay out both sides. And, hey,
- 0:51Speaker 2: we're going to lay out both sides. That's what we
- 0:54Speaker 2: intend to do. We are not trying to force anybody's view,
- 0:59Speaker 2: change anybody's view. We're not trying to do that. We're
- 1:02Speaker 2: not trying to cause a break in fellowship. We're not
- 1:07Speaker 2: trying to do any of those things. We're not trying
- 1:08Speaker 2: to create arguments and disagreements. We're not trying to do
- 1:12Speaker 2: anything like that. We just simply are laying out both sides.
- 1:17Speaker 2: We did mention last week that God knows. God knows
- 1:22Speaker 2: because he is sovereign. God knows, once again, which side
- 1:28Speaker 2: is valid, which side is true.
- 1:31Speaker 3: God knows.
- 1:32Speaker 2: And we will leave, let God be the final judge.
- 1:36Speaker 2: But we are, once again, we're just going to lay
- 1:38Speaker 2: out both sides. And both sides, as we have said,
- 1:42Speaker 2: have adequate scripture to back up their particular view. That's
- 1:50Speaker 2: what I do believe. Anyway, so we're going to get
- 1:53Speaker 2: into this. And once again, thank you for joining us.
- 1:58Speaker 2: If you don't mind, share this page out that others
- 2:01Speaker 2: also may be blessed. That is something that we always
- 2:05Speaker 2: want to do as we enter into these studies.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Amen.
- 2:10Speaker 2: That's important to us that you do that because we
- 2:14Speaker 2: don't come into.
- 2:14Speaker 3: These studies just to pass the time.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Amen.
- 2:19Speaker 2: We seek application. We don't just seek information. We are
- 2:23Speaker 2: not just seeking knowledge. We seek application. Theology without application
- 2:28Speaker 2: is is no good. It doesn't do a whole lot
- 2:31Speaker 2: of good to learn a whole lot of stuff. But
- 2:34Speaker 2: then your life still doesn't line up with all the
- 2:36Speaker 2: things that you say you believe. And so we want
- 2:40Speaker 2: to make sure that we understand that that is very important.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Amen. So once again, God bless you, Cynthia and Dana
- 2:51Speaker 3: and Mr. Walker, Mr. Walker Jr. in Mississippi.
- 2:54Speaker 2: God bless you. God bless you also, Terrence. uh, Tyler
- 2:59Speaker 2: in North Carolina. Thank you also for joining.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Okay.
- 3:03Speaker 2: So as I said, uh, this is a, this is
- 3:06Speaker 2: an unfortunately divisive subject, a quote, controversial subject, uh, a
- 3:13Speaker 2: subject that we have avoided literally, uh, that we have avoided, uh,
- 3:19Speaker 2: over the years that we have been online and we
- 3:21Speaker 2: have not really, um, touched on this subject head on
- 3:26Speaker 2: as we are doing now.
- 3:29Speaker 3: But we're going to do it. And we've been doing
- 3:30Speaker 3: it for the past couple of weeks.
- 3:31Speaker 2: And we have some more things in store. Remember, the
- 3:35Speaker 2: title of this particular series is Very Straight Talk. Very
- 3:39Speaker 2: Straight Talk on this great salvation. Being Very Straight Talk,
- 3:43Speaker 2: that means that we're going to touch on several topics that.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Believers don't agree on. And so we'll be doing that.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Once again, not trying to cause any disagreement or any
- 3:59Speaker 2: controversy myself, but these are things that we as believers
- 4:04Speaker 2: need to know and we need to understand.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Amen.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Regardless of what end of the spectrum you land on
- 4:11Speaker 2: as pertaining to what we're going to talk about tonight,
- 4:13Speaker 2: we're all brothers and sisters in Christ.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Amen.
- 4:17Speaker 3: We are all brothers and sisters in Christ. Amen. All righty. Amen.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Alrighty.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Thank you, my brother Thomas.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Amen. Alrighty.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Let's pray and we're going to get right, right, right
- 4:31Speaker 2: into it. Once again, we've tried to, we've tried to
- 4:36Speaker 2: make this as we want to be able for you
- 4:40Speaker 2: to see. So we have a lot of scriptures set
- 4:42Speaker 2: up for you to see. So it's just not me
- 4:47Speaker 2: as a talking head, just giving you information and giving
- 4:50Speaker 2: you scriptures. We want you to see exactly what it
- 4:53Speaker 2: is that we're saying. So if I read a little
- 4:56Speaker 2: bit from what you see, that's fine. If I don't
- 4:58Speaker 2: read it exactly as you see it, you can follow along.
- 5:01Speaker 2: But once again, that's our goal. We want to make
- 5:08Speaker 2: sure that you're able to see what we're doing.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Amen.
- 5:12Speaker 3: Let's pray.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Lord, we bless you. We honor you.
- 5:14Speaker 1: We thank you, Lord.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Once again, you've given us another opportunity, Lord, to open
- 5:18Speaker 2: up your word. We know that this is a very
- 5:22Speaker 2: It's a very tense subject within the body of believers.
- 5:28Speaker 2: We know that there are believers on both sides that
- 5:31Speaker 2: are very passionate about their view, and that's all well
- 5:35Speaker 2: and good. It is not our intent to start any
- 5:41Speaker 2: problems or difficulties. We are not intending to change anybody's
- 5:46Speaker 2: mind or view concerning whatever view they happen to stand on. Lord,
- 5:50Speaker 2: we just want to just lay out the two sides. So, Lord,
- 5:55Speaker 2: we just bless you today. Be with us, lead us
- 5:57Speaker 2: and guide us into your truth. That's all we want.
- 5:59Speaker 2: We want to hear from you, Lord Jesus.
- 6:00Speaker 3: So, have your way. We thank you for all things
- 6:02Speaker 3: in Jesus' name.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Amen.
- 6:05Speaker 3: And amen.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Amen.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Well, hallelujah. God is good.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Now, what we are going to do first, we're going
- 6:13Speaker 2: to do a quick.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Review. A quick review. of what we did last week.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Now I'll be talking a little fast.
- 6:21Speaker 2: I'll be getting into these, the points here a little
- 6:24Speaker 2: quick because we did go over these, uh, these points
- 6:26Speaker 2: last week, but, but now they're going to be sort of, uh,
- 6:30Speaker 2: they're going to be sort of, uh, uh, side by side.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Uh, and let me just go back. Just, uh, let
- 6:39Speaker 3: me go back to there. Is that the one I want?
- 6:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:41Speaker 3: All right.
- 6:42Speaker 2: So last week we talked about, uh, the five points
- 6:45Speaker 2: of Arminianism and the five points of Calvinism, And we
- 6:48Speaker 2: see where they are polar opposites of one another. Arminianism
- 6:53Speaker 2: believes in free will and Calvinism believes in total depravity.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Once again, we're going to talk about this very quickly
- 6:58Speaker 3: in just a moment.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Arminianism believes in conditional election.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Calvinism believes in unconditional election.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Universal atonement for the Arminian and limited atonement for the Calvinist.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Resistible grace for the Arminian and irresistible grace for the Calvinist.
- 7:17Speaker 2: and perseverance of the saints, of some saints for the Armenians,
- 7:22Speaker 2: and perseverance of all saints for the Calvinists. And that last,
- 7:26Speaker 2: number five, number five is the one that we are
- 7:30Speaker 2: going to be mainly focusing in on once we are
- 7:33Speaker 2: finished with this quick review. We're going to be going
- 7:36Speaker 2: over scriptures that point to the fact that you can
- 7:41Speaker 2: lose your salvation, and we're going to be looking at
- 7:43Speaker 2: scriptures that point to the fact That seems to say
- 7:46Speaker 2: that you cannot lose your salvation. We're going to look
- 7:48Speaker 2: at both sides, amen? So let's get right into it, amen?
- 7:58Speaker 2: Slide number four, slide number five already.
- 8:02Speaker 3: All right. So the first point that we said was
- 8:05Speaker 3: free will. This is Arminian.
- 8:08Speaker 2: I've put the Arminian view in black and I've put
- 8:13Speaker 2: the Calvinist view in red.
- 8:15Speaker 3: So free will, human ability.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Arminianism teaches that although the fall affects humanity, God grants
- 8:21Speaker 2: prevenient grace. And this is grace given before a person
- 8:25Speaker 2: responds to Christ.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Okay?
- 8:28Speaker 2: The Arminian believes that, yes, we are all dead in
- 8:32Speaker 2: our trespasses and sins, but in order for us to
- 8:34Speaker 2: come to Christ, God has granted a prevenient pre, that
- 8:39Speaker 2: word pre, prevenient grace, grace before Christ. a person responds
- 8:43Speaker 2: to Christ, which enables a person to respond freely to
- 8:49Speaker 2: the gospel. Humans may accept or reject salvation based on
- 8:55Speaker 2: the fact that we have free will. On the other hand,
- 9:02Speaker 2: Calvinists teach total depravity. They teach total depravity. And that
- 9:08Speaker 2: means that all of humanity, forgive the the loss of
- 9:11Speaker 2: the h there all of humanity is fallen in every
- 9:15Speaker 2: aspect of its nature and is absolutely completely and totally
- 9:19Speaker 2: unable to choose god without divine intervention they believe that dead.
- 9:25Speaker 3: In trespasses and sins means dead in trespasses and.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Sins not half dead not in a coma not dead
- 9:34Speaker 2: with one eye open dead means dead according to the
- 9:37Speaker 2: calvinists all right uh Point number two, point number two,
- 9:42Speaker 2: the Arminian believes in unlimited or universal atonement. In other words,
- 9:48Speaker 2: that Jesus died for every single living person without exception, okay?
- 9:54Speaker 2: Salvation is available to everyone, though only believers benefit from
- 10:00Speaker 2: Christ's atonement. A scripture verse that comes to mind from
- 10:04Speaker 2: 1 Timothy says.
- 10:08Speaker 3: That Jesus is the savior of all men. All men.
- 10:13Speaker 3: He's the savior of all men, especially those who believe.
- 10:19Speaker 3: especially those who believe that that's a scripture. All righty?
- 10:23Speaker 2: Now, the Calvinists, on the other hand, believe in unconditional election.
- 10:30Speaker 2: And this simply means that God is the one who
- 10:32Speaker 2: chooses and has chosen from eternity those who will be
- 10:37Speaker 2: saved based solely on his own sovereign will and not
- 10:42Speaker 2: on foreseen human actions. Example, For God so loved the
- 10:50Speaker 2: world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever
- 10:52Speaker 2: believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.
- 10:54Speaker 2: We're very familiar with John 3.16, but the Calvinist says
- 10:58Speaker 2: that that verse is not talking about the entire world.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Not the entire world.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Only the world of those who will actually give their
- 11:07Speaker 2: hearts to Christ. Only those who have been elected. Only
- 11:11Speaker 2: those who have been chosen. That's the world. That's a
- 11:15Speaker 2: sort of a limited world. That's a limited view. And
- 11:19Speaker 2: it's unconditional election. God has chosen. In other words, if
- 11:25Speaker 2: God hasn't chosen you from eternity past, then there's no
- 11:29Speaker 2: way that you can be saved because you're not chosen.
- 11:31Speaker 2: You're not elected. So you can't be saved. You cannot
- 11:34Speaker 2: be saved if he hasn't chosen you. I know that
- 11:37Speaker 2: sounds crazy, but that's where it comes down to. Unconditional election.
- 11:41Speaker 2: That's what it has to mean. If you're not elected,
- 11:44Speaker 2: then you can't be saved and you won't be saved.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Okay? Now, conditional election.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Is the Arminian view that God's election is based on
- 12:00Speaker 2: his foreknowledge of who will freely respond in faith. Election
- 12:05Speaker 2: is therefore conditional on human response rather than an unconditional
- 12:10Speaker 2: divine decree. In other words, the Arminian says that they
- 12:16Speaker 2: understand that God has elected, but it's not based on
- 12:22Speaker 2: that decree that you're elected and you're not elected.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Okay?
- 12:26Speaker 3: You're chosen and you're not chosen. It's by faith.
- 12:30Speaker 2: If I, by faith, because I do have a free
- 12:33Speaker 2: will to choose him or not choose him.
- 12:35Speaker 3: If I, by faith, say yes, then I can be saved.
- 12:42Speaker 2: And I will be saved. OK, that's the Armenian. That's
- 12:46Speaker 2: the Armenian view. OK, election is conditional and based on
- 12:51Speaker 2: human response. The other side doesn't believe that God has
- 12:54Speaker 2: already said it.
- 12:56Speaker 3: It's going to happen. You're going to be saved because
- 12:58Speaker 3: he elected you. Don't know how.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Don't know the situation. We don't know the hour or
- 13:03Speaker 2: the day he does. And you're going to be saved. OK,
- 13:06Speaker 2: it goes further, though.
- 13:07Speaker 3: All right.
- 13:09Speaker 2: The Arminian, point number four. Limited, and this is the
- 13:18Speaker 2: view of the Calvinist, I'm sorry. Christ's atoning death. It
- 13:22Speaker 2: is limited atonement. And we mentioned this just a bit ago.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Christ's atoning death is effective for and intended specifically for
- 13:30Speaker 2: the elect. That's that John.
- 13:32Speaker 3: 3.16 that I was talking about. securing their salvation.
- 13:35Speaker 2: What this means, limited atonement means that Jesus did not
- 13:39Speaker 2: die for everyone. That's what limited atonement is.
- 13:44Speaker 3: It's limited.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Jesus didn't die for the world. He just died for
- 13:48Speaker 2: those who would be saved. If you're saved, he died
- 13:52Speaker 2: for you. Someone who dies unsaved, whoever they may be,
- 13:58Speaker 2: they died unsaved because Jesus did not die for them.
- 14:03Speaker 2: That's a blunt statement, but that's what limited atonement, that
- 14:07Speaker 2: is what it means.
- 14:09Speaker 3: That is exactly what it means.
- 14:13Speaker 2: So, once again, I know how it sounds, but this
- 14:20Speaker 2: is the view.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Alrighty, number four. Okay?
- 14:29Speaker 2: The Arminian view is resistible grace. Because God's grace enables salvation,
- 14:38Speaker 2: people can resist it. Once again, this is based on
- 14:42Speaker 2: point number one, that you have a free will. You
- 14:44Speaker 2: can resist. We go to Adam and Eve. God said,
- 14:49Speaker 2: don't do that. God said, do not eat from the
- 14:51Speaker 2: fruit of this tree. The day you eat from it,
- 14:54Speaker 2: you will surely die.
- 14:55Speaker 3: Okay?
- 14:56Speaker 2: Because Adam and Eve had free will, they resisted. went
- 15:01Speaker 2: against what God said and they chose not to obey.
- 15:05Speaker 3: That should prove free will.
- 15:07Speaker 2: So it says the Holy Spirit does not irresistibly compel
- 15:14Speaker 2: anyone to believe. Individuals may refuse God's call. Have you
- 15:21Speaker 2: ever refused God's call? The very, very first time you
- 15:26Speaker 2: ever heard the gospel, the very, very first time you
- 15:29Speaker 2: ever heard a gospel invitation, you know, the preacher says,
- 15:34Speaker 2: who here is not saved? Lift up your hand, walk
- 15:36Speaker 2: down the aisle, however it may have happened for you.
- 15:40Speaker 2: The first time you ever heard about Jesus and what
- 15:44Speaker 2: he does, did you come? Okay, did you come? I didn't,
- 15:52Speaker 2: by the way. Verse number five. I mean, number four
- 15:58Speaker 2: of the view of the Calvinists, it's called irresistible grace.
- 16:05Speaker 2: And it means that God's grace draws those he elects
- 16:10Speaker 2: to faith. So if you've been chosen and if you've
- 16:13Speaker 2: been elected, then you cannot refuse because God has decreed it.
- 16:21Speaker 2: God has said you are going to be, he elected
- 16:23Speaker 2: you from the beginning. From the very beginning, he elected you.
- 16:27Speaker 2: He chose you. Simply by grace. Not because of you.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Not because of anything you've done. Not because you were good.
- 16:34Speaker 2: Not because you were bad. Because God said, I'm going
- 16:37Speaker 2: to choose him.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Okay?
- 16:39Speaker 2: I'm going to choose her. And you can do nothing
- 16:43Speaker 2: about it. You cannot refuse. When the time comes, on
- 16:48Speaker 2: God's timetable in your life, when the time comes, when
- 16:52Speaker 2: you hear the gospel, You will come because God has
- 16:59Speaker 2: said you will. Irresistible grace. God draws those he elects
- 17:05Speaker 2: to faith.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Okay? That's what it means.
- 17:09Speaker 1: All right.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Finally, finally, when we talk about, and this is the
- 17:16Speaker 2: point that we are going to be talking about here
- 17:18Speaker 2: in five minutes, the Arminian view is you have the
- 17:25Speaker 2: possibility of falling from grace. In other words, you can
- 17:29Speaker 2: lose your salvation. You can lose it. Now, once again,
- 17:33Speaker 2: something that I said last week, and I'm going to
- 17:35Speaker 2: say it again, just the whole phrase, we're going to
- 17:37Speaker 2: keep using it, but the whole phrase, losing your salvation,
- 17:41Speaker 2: if you can lose your salvation, it's better said that
- 17:46Speaker 2: salvation can be forfeited. Can you forfeit your salvation? Or
- 17:51Speaker 2: can your salvation be taken away? That's the best way
- 17:55Speaker 2: to say it. When we talk about losing something, it's like,
- 17:58Speaker 2: you know, you don't know what happened to it.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Where is it? No, no.
- 18:02Speaker 2: So if a person can lose their salvation, they have
- 18:05Speaker 2: given it up. They have forfeited it.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Okay?
- 18:09Speaker 3: So believers may fall away. Fall away.
- 18:11Speaker 2: Keep that phrase in mind. Fall away from faith and
- 18:16Speaker 2: lose salvation. This point reflects the Arminian emphasis on continued
- 18:22Speaker 2: faith and obedience. In other words, if you do not
- 18:26Speaker 2: have faith in the Lord anymore, if you continue to disobey,
- 18:32Speaker 2: at some point, according to the Arminian, according to those
- 18:35Speaker 2: who say you can lose your salvation, at some point,
- 18:39Speaker 2: your salvation is going to be gone. Now, let's go
- 18:43Speaker 2: over real quick before we go to the Calvinist side.
- 18:47Speaker 2: If you lose your salvation, okay, just Think of all
- 18:51Speaker 2: the things you lose. You're no longer justified. You're no
- 18:56Speaker 2: longer sanctified. There's no such thing as glorification with you.
- 19:00Speaker 2: You're no longer converted. You're no longer indwelt by the
- 19:03Speaker 2: Holy Spirit. If you lose your salvation, your salvation is
- 19:08Speaker 2: not on hold.
- 19:11Speaker 3: Okay?
- 19:11Speaker 2: Your salvation is not paused. If you lose your salvation,
- 19:15Speaker 2: it's gone. You are the person that you used to be.
- 19:20Speaker 2: You are no.
- 19:22Speaker 3: Longer a new creation. You're the old creation again.
- 19:28Speaker 2: All those old things that passed away, they are now
- 19:31Speaker 2: going to return because you don't have any part of
- 19:37Speaker 2: the Spirit of God within you anymore.
- 19:40Speaker 3: That's what happens if a person loses their salvation. It's
- 19:43Speaker 3: all gone. It's all gone.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Memories.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Oh, I remember when I used to go to church
- 19:48Speaker 2: or I still go to church. or whatever the case
- 19:50Speaker 2: may be. But you have no witness of the spirit
- 19:54Speaker 2: on the inside if you lose your salvation.
- 19:57Speaker 3: It's all gone. It's all undone. Okay? You once were
- 20:02Speaker 3: a child of God. You're no longer a child of God.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Okay?
- 20:06Speaker 2: You were a son Or daughter of God because you
- 20:10Speaker 2: gave your heart to him?
- 20:12Speaker 3: Not anymore. Okay? You were adopted.
- 20:16Speaker 2: All the words that the Bible uses that talk about
- 20:19Speaker 2: the fact that we are in Christ, that we are adopted,
- 20:21Speaker 2: you're not adopted anymore.
- 20:22Speaker 3: You are no longer in the family.
- 20:25Speaker 2: You either put yourself out or he put you out
- 20:28Speaker 2: or whatever happened, you're not a part of the family anymore.
- 20:31Speaker 3: So everything that you were is undone if you lose
- 20:34Speaker 3: your salvation. Okay? Okay? Okay?
- 20:37Speaker 2: The Calvinist side, the Calvinist side, they believe in perseverance
- 20:43Speaker 2: of the saints. That means all who are truly regenerated
- 20:49Speaker 2: and elected. Don't forget that word elected. All who are
- 20:53Speaker 2: truly generated and elected by God will persevere in faith
- 20:59Speaker 2: until the end.
- 21:00Speaker 3: In other words, they will make it to heaven.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Okay.
- 21:05Speaker 3: Okay.
- 21:06Speaker 2: They're going to make it to the end. They're going
- 21:08Speaker 2: to make it to the end. No matter what happens,
- 21:11Speaker 2: if they are truly saved, born again, indwelled by the
- 21:14Speaker 2: Spirit of God, they will make it to the end.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Period.
- 21:19Speaker 3: End of story. Drop the mic.
- 21:21Speaker 2: They're saved.
- 21:22Speaker 3: They're in.
- 21:23Speaker 2: And there's a lot of misunderstanding about that particular, because
- 21:26Speaker 2: folk believe that if you believe that once saved, always saved,
- 21:30Speaker 2: that means that you believe that you can still sin forever.
- 21:33Speaker 2: and carry on and do whatever you want because it
- 21:35Speaker 2: doesn't matter because you're in and nothing can take you out.
- 21:39Speaker 3: Well, that's not true. That's not true. Anybody who believes that,
- 21:44Speaker 3: anybody who believes once.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Saved, always saved means that you can, now I'm in
- 21:48Speaker 2: the family and I can still live how I want
- 21:50Speaker 2: to live.
- 21:51Speaker 3: They didn't really get saved. They're not truly regenerated.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Okay?
- 21:56Speaker 3: All right. So that's a quick review of last week.
- 21:59Speaker 1: All right?
- 22:01Speaker 3: Now, Quickly, what is conditional security? We spoke about it
- 22:04Speaker 3: a little bit.
- 22:05Speaker 2: It's the counterpart view of eternal security, whereas eternal security
- 22:10Speaker 2: says believers cannot be.
- 22:11Speaker 3: Removed from eternal life and salvation.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Conditional security asserts that contrary to eternal security, believers can
- 22:23Speaker 2: be removed from salvation and, there's that word again, fall
- 22:27Speaker 2: away from eternal life. The word conditional used in conditional security,
- 22:34Speaker 2: says that security in Christ is conditional, okay, upon the
- 22:40Speaker 2: faith response of the believer. So are you really secure
- 22:43Speaker 2: or are you not? Does eternal life mean eternal life
- 22:47Speaker 2: or not? That's what it all comes down to, all right?
- 22:56Speaker 3: All right.
- 22:58Speaker 2: So in support of conditional security, and this is the
- 23:05Speaker 2: Arminian side, the basic argument is God gives us this
- 23:12Speaker 2: freedom to choose him or reject him.
- 23:17Speaker 3: Free will.
- 23:18Speaker 2: God does not take away this freedom when we become believers.
- 23:24Speaker 3: Okay?
- 23:25Speaker 2: God does not take away the fact that we can
- 23:31Speaker 2: say no to him when we become believers. That is
- 23:35Speaker 2: something that we always have that.
- 23:38Speaker 1: All right? All right.
- 23:44Speaker 3: Here is Scripture. All right?
- 23:47Speaker 2: Basic argument number two. Scripture plainly teaches, and this is
- 23:52Speaker 2: the Arminian view. These next several verses, all are the
- 23:57Speaker 2: Arminian view. The view that says that you can lose
- 24:01Speaker 2: your salvation. Scripture plainly teaches, according to the Arminian, that
- 24:06Speaker 2: one can.
- 24:07Speaker 3: Lose their salvation.
- 24:08Speaker 2: 1 Corinthians 15, verses 1 and 2. Moreover, brethren, I declare,
- 24:14Speaker 2: this is Paul talking, I declare unto you the gospel
- 24:17Speaker 2: which I preached unto you, which also ye have received,
- 24:22Speaker 2: and wherein ye stand, by which also ye are saved,
- 24:27Speaker 2: if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you,
- 24:33Speaker 2: you believed in vain unless your faith was empty. The
- 24:40Speaker 2: word vain means empty.
- 24:43Speaker 3: Okay?
- 24:44Speaker 2: So this verse, for those who believe you can lose
- 24:48Speaker 2: your salvation, is saying that, once again, that sentence, unless
- 24:53Speaker 2: you believed in vain. To believe in vain means you
- 24:56Speaker 2: once believed and now nothing's come of it.
- 25:00Speaker 3: Okay? Nothing's come of it. That's what That's what that
- 25:03Speaker 3: scripture seems to be saying.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Okay, another verse. Okay, this is Jesus speaking. He says,
- 25:12Speaker 2: and many false prophets shall rise and shall deceive many
- 25:17Speaker 2: and because iniquity shall abound. He's talking about the conditions
- 25:22Speaker 2: in the last days. The love of many shall wax cold,
- 25:27Speaker 2: but he that shall endure unto the end the same
- 25:33Speaker 2: shall be saved.
- 25:35Speaker 3: So what is Jesus talking about?
- 25:38Speaker 2: Is he talking about simply the conditions during the tribulation period?
- 25:43Speaker 2: The condition of the end time? Or is he speaking
- 25:47Speaker 2: of salvation? Is he talking about salvation? The Arminians, the
- 25:53Speaker 2: Calvinists would say Jesus is not even talking about salvation here.
- 25:57Speaker 2: He's talking about the end times. He's talking about how
- 26:01Speaker 2: terrible it's going to be in the last days. But
- 26:04Speaker 2: those who endure that period of time, the end, they
- 26:08Speaker 2: will make it to the end. That's the counter argument
- 26:13Speaker 2: from the Calvinists, okay?
- 26:16Speaker 3: Here's another verse. It says, take heed, brethren, lest there
- 26:20Speaker 3: be in any of you an evil heart.
- 26:26Speaker 2: Of unbelief. Now remember, Paul was speaking to the writer
- 26:30Speaker 2: of Hebrews. We believe it's Paul. It may not be,
- 26:32Speaker 2: but it could very well be.
- 26:34Speaker 3: The writer of.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Hebrews is speaking to believers, Jewish believers. And he says,
- 26:41Speaker 2: he says an evil heart of unbelief. And so this
- 26:46Speaker 2: gives rise to the view that yes, a Christian, a
- 26:49Speaker 2: believer can believe. can get themselves into unbelief, an evil
- 26:55Speaker 2: heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. Now,
- 27:01Speaker 2: the Calvinists would say, is that what the writer is
- 27:05Speaker 2: talking about? Is this what the writer is talking about?
- 27:09Speaker 2: What the writer is talking about, according to the Calvinists,
- 27:12Speaker 2: the Hebrews, the Jews, were being tempted to go back
- 27:16Speaker 2: into law. That's the whole purpose of the book of Hebrews.
- 27:19Speaker 2: They were being tempted to go back into law. And
- 27:22Speaker 2: when he talks about here departing from the living God,
- 27:25Speaker 2: it is a reference to the fact that they would
- 27:27Speaker 2: be going back into law, not leaving.
- 27:31Speaker 3: Their own salvation.
- 27:33Speaker 2: That's the Calvinist counter to this particular verse.
- 27:39Speaker 1: Okay?
- 27:40Speaker 3: So I'm trying to give both sides, ladies and gentlemen.
- 27:45Speaker 1: All righty. Next.
- 27:50Speaker 3: Some more scriptures, I'm sure.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Yes.
- 27:54Speaker 3: From Revelation chapter 22 and verse number 19. Okay. And
- 27:57Speaker 3: if any man, and if any man, let me go
- 28:01Speaker 3: to that. I'm going to read this myself.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Okay.
- 28:05Speaker 2: Because it's blocked on my screen here. And if any
- 28:14Speaker 2: man shall take away from the words of the book
- 28:17Speaker 2: of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out
- 28:21Speaker 2: of the book of life and out of the holy
- 28:23Speaker 2: city and from the things which are written in this book. Now,
- 28:27Speaker 2: what is this saying? What is this saying? This seems
- 28:32Speaker 2: to be saying that if you take away from the
- 28:36Speaker 2: words of this book, what book? The book of Revelation.
- 28:41Speaker 2: If you take away from the book of Revelation, you're
- 28:42Speaker 2: taking away from the entire scripture. So he says here,
- 28:46Speaker 2: if you take away from the words of this book,
- 28:48Speaker 2: God shall take away his part out of the book
- 28:53Speaker 2: of life, okay? His part out of the book of
- 28:57Speaker 2: life and out of the holy city and from the
- 28:59Speaker 2: things which are written in this book. And so this,
- 29:03Speaker 2: according to the Arminian, is clear evidence that you can
- 29:10Speaker 2: lose it all, okay? Lose it all based on taking
- 29:14Speaker 2: away the words of this prophecy, okay? Based, this verse
- 29:24Speaker 2: is talking about taking away from the words of this prophecy, okay?
- 29:28Speaker 2: If you take away from this book, then you, he's
- 29:33Speaker 2: going to take away your part out of his book
- 29:35Speaker 2: of life.
- 29:36Speaker 3: Scripture also talks about.
- 29:37Speaker 2: The book, of the Lamb, the Lamb's book of life.
- 29:43Speaker 3: Scripture also speaks about, okay?
- 29:46Speaker 2: So once again, according to the Arminian, this is clear
- 29:49Speaker 2: evidence that salvation can be lost. Salvation can be lost,
- 29:56Speaker 2: all right? Here's another scripture. from 1 Corinthians chapter 9
- 30:02Speaker 2: and verse number 17. It says, this is Paul the
- 30:06Speaker 2: apostle talking, but I keep under my body and bring
- 30:10Speaker 2: it into subjection lest by any means when I have
- 30:17Speaker 2: preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
- 30:24Speaker 3: Okay?
- 30:25Speaker 2: So he keeps his body under subjection. He disciplines himself. himself, okay?
- 30:32Speaker 2: This particular verse in the past, I'm not sure, I
- 30:36Speaker 2: would not like to think that people still do it.
- 30:38Speaker 3: I'm sure there are people living in parts of the
- 30:41Speaker 3: world that do it.
- 30:42Speaker 2: This particular verse gave rise to self-flagellation, individuals whipping themselves
- 30:51Speaker 2: or beating themselves to try to cure the carnal man,
- 30:56Speaker 2: to keep their body under subjection. They would beat themselves
- 31:01Speaker 2: to try to subdue carnal desires.
- 31:05Speaker 3: And this verse gave rise to.
- 31:12Speaker 2: Those people that did that, monks and people that live
- 31:15Speaker 2: in monasteries and all that type of thing. But Paul says,
- 31:19Speaker 2: I myself, I do this so that I myself should
- 31:23Speaker 2: be cast away. Now we need to look at this
- 31:26Speaker 2: word So we can understand just what Paul is talking
- 31:30Speaker 2: about here. The word cast away means not standing the test.
- 31:35Speaker 2: It means unapproved. It means that which does not prove
- 31:40Speaker 2: itself as it ought. So the question is, according to
- 31:48Speaker 2: the Calvinists, was Paul fearful of losing his salvation?
- 31:56Speaker 3: Or was he fearful of losing his rewards?
- 32:01Speaker 2: Was it salvation or rewards when he says he keeps
- 32:05Speaker 2: his body under subjection?
- 32:07Speaker 3: Okay.
- 32:08Speaker 2: Let's go to some more scripture to try to bring
- 32:11Speaker 2: this point out. Here's what we read in 1 Corinthians
- 32:18Speaker 2: chapter number three, starting in verse number 12. 1 Corinthians
- 32:25Speaker 2: chapter three, starting in verse number 12. Read it carefully.
- 32:30Speaker 2: It says, now, if any man build upon this foundation, gold, silver,
- 32:35Speaker 2: precious stone, wood, hay, stubble, it says, every man's work
- 32:41Speaker 2: shall be made manifest, made known. For the day shall
- 32:45Speaker 2: declare it because it shall be revealed by fire. And
- 32:49Speaker 2: the fire shall try or test every man's work. Of
- 32:54Speaker 2: what sort it is. Verse number 14. If any man's work.
- 32:59Speaker 3: Abide. Which he hath built thereupon. He shall receive. Reward.
- 33:06Speaker 3: Now this is the last verse I want you to get.
- 33:07Speaker 2: Verse number 15. If any man's work. Shall be burned.
- 33:12Speaker 2: In other words doesn't meet the test. Doesn't make the test.
- 33:17Speaker 2: That's what Paul is saying here. When he says I
- 33:19Speaker 2: should be cast away. He shall suffer loss. no rewards, okay?
- 33:25Speaker 2: But he himself shall be saved, yet so as by fire, okay?
- 33:32Speaker 2: And that doesn't really mean by the skin of their teeth,
- 33:35Speaker 2: but so as by fire. So the Calvinists would take
- 33:40Speaker 2: that particular stand that if a man's work shall be burned, okay,
- 33:45Speaker 2: doesn't meet the test, okay, unapproved, that he He will
- 33:52Speaker 2: just simply suffer loss, okay? But he himself shall be saved, okay?
- 33:57Speaker 2: This is Paul the Apostle speaking, okay? The same man
- 34:00Speaker 2: who wrote this is the same one who wrote the
- 34:09Speaker 2: other now. Another argument, okay? Basic argument number three, and
- 34:17Speaker 2: we're still talking about the Arminians, okay? Scripture plainly teaches
- 34:22Speaker 2: that salvation requires a continuous belief until death. You got
- 34:29Speaker 2: to believe, okay? Your faith, your faith, your faith must
- 34:34Speaker 2: be in the Lord. Your faith must be in the Lord, okay?
- 34:41Speaker 3: Period.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Your faith must be in the Lord. What else can
- 34:45Speaker 2: we say? Listen, many people say their faith is in God.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Many people say they have faith in the scripture.
- 34:53Speaker 3: Okay?
- 34:54Speaker 2: I think all of those responses are adequate.
- 34:59Speaker 3: All those responses are adequate.
- 35:02Speaker 2: Now, as for those of us who subscribe to, I'll
- 35:09Speaker 2: put that in quotations, who subscribe to what we call
- 35:13Speaker 2: the message of the cross, I'm sure that you probably
- 35:20Speaker 2: have not always subscribed to the message of the cross.
- 35:24Speaker 3: I know I did not.
- 35:26Speaker 2: And the message of the cross, basically, in short, says
- 35:31Speaker 2: that our faith needs to be in the Lord Jesus Christ.
- 35:36Speaker 2: Our faith needs to be in the finished work of
- 35:38Speaker 2: the Lord Jesus Christ. That's shorthand. That's the message of
- 35:40Speaker 2: the cross in very much shorthand. But that's the thought.
- 35:43Speaker 3: That's the idea. Now, there was a time in my
- 35:46Speaker 3: life where.
- 35:48Speaker 2: I had no idea of that, no clue as to
- 35:52Speaker 2: what that was, what that meant. I had no clue.
- 35:55Speaker 2: Nobody ever told me. I never read it. I never
- 35:58Speaker 2: heard of it, okay? But I was still saved. My
- 36:02Speaker 2: faith was not in Christ and his finished work. Maybe
- 36:05Speaker 2: it was, but maybe I didn't express it that way.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Maybe I didn't understand it, but it was. But I
- 36:12Speaker 2: know that I was still saved even when I did not.
- 36:18Speaker 2: have my faith completely in the cross of Jesus Christ
- 36:24Speaker 2: as it is spoken. I didn't realize that I had
- 36:29Speaker 2: done first Romans chapter three and verse number 25. I
- 36:33Speaker 2: didn't realize when I was born again that I was
- 36:35Speaker 2: putting faith in his blood.
- 36:37Speaker 3: I didn't know.
- 36:38Speaker 2: I had no idea I was putting faith in his blood.
- 36:42Speaker 2: I didn't even know what that means if you would
- 36:44Speaker 2: have told me. If you would have told me that,
- 36:46Speaker 2: 10 years after I was saved, I wouldn't know what
- 36:49Speaker 2: you was talking about. I probably read it, but I
- 36:51Speaker 2: probably didn't put two and two together and understand that
- 36:55Speaker 2: that's what I did when I got saved. But it was.
- 36:58Speaker 2: I put my faith in his blood. I put my
- 37:00Speaker 2: faith in Christ. I put my faith in him. I
- 37:02Speaker 2: put my faith in his word. I put my faith
- 37:04Speaker 2: in the cross. I put my faith.
- 37:06Speaker 3: When I said, help me, God, I was putting my
- 37:09Speaker 3: faith in everything. Okay?
- 37:13Speaker 2: When when the thief on the cross said, remember me
- 37:16Speaker 2: when you come into your kingdom, he was putting his faith.
- 37:19Speaker 3: He was putting his faith in his blood. That was
- 37:21Speaker 3: being shed at that moment. Okay. He was, he was
- 37:24Speaker 3: doing that.
- 37:26Speaker 2: So once again, if you don't have your faith in
- 37:30Speaker 2: Christ and his finished work, it does not necessarily follow
- 37:35Speaker 2: through that. You can't be saved. I mean, can't remain
- 37:39Speaker 2: safe and put it that way. You, you, you put
- 37:40Speaker 2: your faith in Christ. whether you knew it or not
- 37:43Speaker 2: when you got saved. But after you're saved, once again,
- 37:47Speaker 2: everybody doesn't teach this. And I'm not invalidating it. I'm
- 37:52Speaker 2: a staunch believer of this. But everybody doesn't believe this.
- 37:59Speaker 2: Everybody doesn't believe in putting their faith in Christ and
- 38:04Speaker 2: his finished work. Everybody doesn't believe that. But guess what?
- 38:10Speaker 2: I believe they are still saved. if they're indwelt by
- 38:13Speaker 2: the Spirit of God, they're born again, they're saved. Now,
- 38:18Speaker 2: maybe their salvation is not, maybe their salvation could be
- 38:22Speaker 2: more than what it is.
- 38:23Speaker 3: You cannot be more saved. We know that. But if
- 38:28Speaker 3: your faith is not in his finished.
- 38:30Speaker 2: Work as we express it, you can still live a
- 38:35Speaker 2: Christian life.
- 38:37Speaker 3: I'm not trying to move people away from the cross
- 38:39Speaker 3: at all.
- 38:40Speaker 2: Okay, I'm just saying that Individuals have lived their entire
- 38:44Speaker 2: Christian life without an understanding of this, this view, this concept.
- 38:52Speaker 2: People have lived their entire Christian life without it, okay? So,
- 38:57Speaker 2: and once again, I'm not intending to invalidate the message
- 39:01Speaker 2: of the cross, okay?
- 39:02Speaker 3: Not at all.
- 39:04Speaker 2: Hebrews 3.6, but Christ as a son over his own
- 39:09Speaker 2: house whose house are we? If we hold fast the
- 39:15Speaker 2: confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firmer to the end, okay? If, if, if,
- 39:22Speaker 2: you're good. This verse says, whose house we are. We
- 39:26Speaker 2: belong to him if, if you hold fast, hold firm
- 39:32Speaker 2: to the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope, firm
- 39:35Speaker 2: unto the end. Once again, this verse seems to be saying,
- 39:39Speaker 2: you got to keep your faith in place.
- 39:43Speaker 3: Okay?
- 39:43Speaker 2: You got to keep your confidence in place. You got
- 39:46Speaker 2: to keep your rejoicing in place. If you don't, that's
- 39:51Speaker 2: what the verse seems to be saying.
- 39:52Speaker 3: All righty?
- 39:55Speaker 1: All righty.
- 39:56Speaker 2: In support now of eternal security, in support of eternal security,
- 40:02Speaker 2: we have a few minutes left. Basic argument number one,
- 40:07Speaker 2: eternal security is a necessary and logical outcome of total
- 40:11Speaker 2: depravity and unconditional election.
- 40:15Speaker 3: Okay?
- 40:15Speaker 2: Once again, eternal security says that God is sovereign over
- 40:20Speaker 2: completely sovereign over all matters concerning your salvation, okay? It's
- 40:25Speaker 2: the logical outcome. If you are totally depraved, there's nothing
- 40:28Speaker 2: you could do except wait on God. God has to
- 40:32Speaker 2: save you, okay? He elected you. He will save you.
- 40:36Speaker 2: He will keep you secure. That's the Calvinist view, okay?
- 40:43Speaker 2: Basic argument number two. Scripture plainly teaches that that one
- 40:48Speaker 2: can never lose their salvation.
- 40:53Speaker 3: Never, never, never, according to the Calvinists, okay? Here's some
- 40:56Speaker 3: scripture verses.
- 40:58Speaker 2: Verily, verily, I say unto you, this is Jesus speaking,
- 41:01Speaker 2: he that heareth my word and believeth on him that
- 41:04Speaker 2: sent me hath everlasting life and shall not come into condemnation.
- 41:12Speaker 2: Jesus says those who hear his word and believe has,
- 41:19Speaker 2: they have everlasting life. They have everlasting life and shall
- 41:24Speaker 2: not come into condemnation, but is passed from death to life.
- 41:28Speaker 2: And once again, the Calvinist said, the Arminian says, once again,
- 41:33Speaker 2: it's contingent.
- 41:34Speaker 3: Upon your faith.
- 41:36Speaker 2: If you no longer believe, then your everlasting life will
- 41:42Speaker 2: be cut short and it's not everlasting anymore.
- 41:46Speaker 3: Okay?
- 41:46Speaker 2: And you will come into condemnation. Here's what I know.
- 41:52Speaker 2: Here's what I, at least I understand. I understand that
- 41:55Speaker 2: salvation is not a game. And if you can lose
- 41:58Speaker 2: your salvation, you can't lose it and come back. And
- 42:02Speaker 2: then somehow don't believe and lose it and come back.
- 42:05Speaker 2: And then lose it and come back. There's no back
- 42:10Speaker 2: and forth. That cannot be the case. That cannot be
- 42:14Speaker 2: the case, okay?
- 42:16Speaker 1: Alrighty.
- 42:17Speaker 3: Argument number, oh. scripture verses.
- 42:22Speaker 2: Once again, talking about whether or not you can lose
- 42:25Speaker 2: your salvation.
- 42:26Speaker 3: And this is the father's will.
- 42:27Speaker 2: This is Jesus talking, which has sent me that of
- 42:31Speaker 2: all which he had given me, I should lose nothing,
- 42:36Speaker 2: but should raise it up again at the last day.
- 42:40Speaker 2: And this is the will of him that sent me
- 42:43Speaker 2: that everyone would see it. The son, and believeth on
- 42:47Speaker 2: him may have everlasting life, and I will raise him.
- 42:51Speaker 3: Up at the last day. This is Jesus speaking.
- 42:55Speaker 2: Now, it seems that Jesus is saying that everyone that
- 42:58Speaker 2: has been given to him, he's talking about people. He's
- 43:01Speaker 2: talking about the apostles, especially the disciples. Everyone that has
- 43:07Speaker 2: been given to him, he says that I should lose
- 43:12Speaker 2: nothing or no one.
- 43:16Speaker 3: But what about Judas? He was lost.
- 43:19Speaker 2: Ah, but Judas, once again, there's two sides of the coin.
- 43:25Speaker 3: Was Judas saved or was he not? Okay?
- 43:29Speaker 2: Jesus called Judas a devil early on in his ministry.
- 43:34Speaker 2: If Judas was saved, if Judas was saved, if Judas
- 43:40Speaker 2: was a believer, let's put it that way, if Judas
- 43:43Speaker 2: was a believer, he became an unbeliever very quickly.
- 43:48Speaker 1: Okay?
- 43:49Speaker 3: He was in and then he was out. Okay?
- 43:52Speaker 2: Whatever happened with Judas, he was in, Jesus chose him,
- 43:56Speaker 2: and then he was not in. Because Jesus says, when
- 43:59Speaker 2: he had all the disciples together, have I not chosen
- 44:02Speaker 2: you 12 and one of you is a devil? He
- 44:05Speaker 2: didn't say that at the end of his ministry. He
- 44:08Speaker 2: said that within the first year. At least he said
- 44:15Speaker 2: that one of you is a devil and none of
- 44:17Speaker 2: them knew he was talking about.
- 44:20Speaker 3: OK.
- 44:22Speaker 2: The Bible says that Judas was a thief. The Bible
- 44:25Speaker 2: doesn't say that Judas became a thief. He said the
- 44:29Speaker 2: Bible says he was a thief, which means that at
- 44:32Speaker 2: the point in time that Jesus chose him sovereignly, he
- 44:37Speaker 2: was a thief and he remained a thief. which indicates
- 44:41Speaker 2: that he was not a believer, okay? That's what that indicates.
- 44:47Speaker 2: So Jesus says that I should lose nothing, okay?
- 44:53Speaker 3: All right, next. Verse, all righty?
- 45:01Speaker 2: And this verse is coming from Romans 11, verses 28
- 45:04Speaker 2: and 29. Romans 11, verses 28 and 29. It says,
- 45:16Speaker 2: as concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes.
- 45:21Speaker 2: Talking about, they are enemies for your sakes. But as
- 45:27Speaker 2: touching the election, they are beloved for the Father's sake.
- 45:31Speaker 2: The election, remember that word, election. For the gifts and
- 45:35Speaker 2: calling of God are without repentance. And so the context here,
- 45:40Speaker 2: he's talking about those who have been elected, those who
- 45:43Speaker 2: have been elected. And he says the gifts and calling
- 45:46Speaker 2: of God are without repentance. The Jews were elected. The
- 45:51Speaker 2: Jews are elected. The Jews are God's chosen people. And
- 45:56Speaker 2: this verse is saying.
- 45:57Speaker 3: That, yes, they are.
- 45:58Speaker 2: They're not doing the right thing. They're not doing the
- 46:01Speaker 2: right thing at this point in time, at the point
- 46:04Speaker 2: in time that this was written.
- 46:08Speaker 1: But.
- 46:08Speaker 3: The gifts and calling of God are without repentance. He
- 46:12Speaker 3: chose them. He elected them. He called them.
- 46:15Speaker 2: And he's not going to take it back. They're without repentance.
- 46:17Speaker 2: Where repentance means to change his mind. It means that
- 46:20Speaker 2: God did not change his mind. God has not changed
- 46:23Speaker 2: his mind because they're the Jews. And we know the
- 46:25Speaker 2: history of the Jews. All we got to do is
- 46:26Speaker 2: look through the Old Testament, look through history. We know
- 46:28Speaker 2: the history of the Jews, that God's chosen people. And
- 46:31Speaker 2: they still remain God's chosen people. They are out of
- 46:35Speaker 2: fellowship with the Lord now. I can use that phrase.
- 46:37Speaker 2: It's not out of fellowship in a Christian sense, but
- 46:39Speaker 2: they don't understand. They don't know Jesus. So they are
- 46:42Speaker 2: out of God's will in that sense, but they are
- 46:46Speaker 2: still his people. And the gifts and calling of God
- 46:49Speaker 2: are without repentance. He has not changed his mind about them.
- 46:52Speaker 2: And so those who believe in, those who believe that
- 46:56Speaker 2: you cannot lose your salvation point to this particular verse
- 46:59Speaker 2: saying that if God calls you and he elected you.
- 47:03Speaker 3: There's nothing that you can do to get yourself out
- 47:06Speaker 3: of it. You're in. And you don't have a desire
- 47:10Speaker 3: to be out, okay? Next verse, next verse.
- 47:15Speaker 2: We're coming down to the end, all right? In whom
- 47:19Speaker 2: also ye trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth.
- 47:23Speaker 2: I'm talking about Ephesians 1 and 13 and 14. The
- 47:27Speaker 2: word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, in whom
- 47:29Speaker 2: also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that
- 47:33Speaker 2: Holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our
- 47:38Speaker 2: inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession unto the
- 47:43Speaker 2: praise of his glory. Now let's look at, quickly, we
- 47:48Speaker 2: have a few minutes. We're gonna, we have.
- 47:50Speaker 3: A few minutes.
- 47:52Speaker 2: Quickly, we're going to explore what this means. Now, this
- 48:01Speaker 2: is something that, Calvinists also believe. If believers can lose
- 48:05Speaker 2: their salvation, they say, then why does Paul say we
- 48:09Speaker 2: are sealed? We just read from Ephesians chapter one. Why
- 48:14Speaker 2: does the Bible say that we are sealed unto the
- 48:16Speaker 2: day of redemption? That's from also, it says it in
- 48:19Speaker 2: Ephesians 4.30. Let's look at Ephesians chapter four and verse
- 48:23Speaker 2: number 30. It says, and grieve not, do not sadden
- 48:28Speaker 2: the Holy Spirit of God, whereby, ye are sealed unto
- 48:33Speaker 2: the day of redemption, okay? We are here that we
- 48:39Speaker 2: are sealed, sealed, sealed. Let's look at what this word
- 48:45Speaker 2: sealed means. The significance of being sealed, okay? It signifies
- 48:54Speaker 2: divine ownership, okay? In the ancient world, a king or
- 48:59Speaker 2: a merchant pressed a signet ring into hot wax to
- 49:05Speaker 2: stamp a document or cargo, making it its official property. Similarly,
- 49:12Speaker 2: at the same time, the Holy Spirit makes believers, marks
- 49:16Speaker 2: believers rather, to show they belong to God.
- 49:19Speaker 3: He puts his seal upon them, divine ownership.
- 49:23Speaker 2: Number two, the seal represents authentication and approval. The Greek
- 49:31Speaker 2: word for seal, which is the word right there, sporadizo,
- 49:37Speaker 2: you don't need to know that, signifies that God validates
- 49:41Speaker 2: or certifies a person's genuine faith, a person's genuine faith. Okay,
- 49:47Speaker 2: two more points here. It also represents, talking about the seal,
- 49:52Speaker 2: it represents protection and security. A royal seal warned others
- 50:01Speaker 2: that the contents were protected by authority and off limits
- 50:06Speaker 2: to harm. The Spirit provides spiritual security against ultimate destruction
- 50:11Speaker 2: or loss of salvation. And finally, the fourth point when
- 50:15Speaker 2: we're talking about the significance of the seal, it's a
- 50:18Speaker 2: down payment. Paul describes the Spirit as a guarantee or
- 50:23Speaker 2: a deposit of the believer's future heavenly inheritance. Like an
- 50:29Speaker 2: engagement ring or a business down payment, it is God's
- 50:33Speaker 2: personal pledge that he will finish what He started. He
- 50:38Speaker 2: who has begun a good work in you shall perform
- 50:41Speaker 2: it until the day of Jesus Christ. Now, the Arminian,
- 50:48Speaker 2: the Arminian genuine faith. My brother Terrence says genuine faith.
- 50:52Speaker 2: That's key.
- 50:52Speaker 3: Genuine faith. Got to be real. Okay. Genuinely a believer. Now,
- 51:02Speaker 3: when we talk about the seal, it's all well and good.
- 51:04Speaker 3: We are sealed. The seal.
- 51:06Speaker 2: The Arminian says we have no problem. We are sealed.
- 51:09Speaker 2: But once again, free will takes over. We are sealed
- 51:15Speaker 2: by the Holy Ghost. The Holy Spirit has sealed us, okay?
- 51:20Speaker 2: But according to the Arminian, the seal does not lock
- 51:25Speaker 2: us in. It does not keep us as secure as
- 51:29Speaker 2: you think a seal is.
- 51:30Speaker 3: Because if I say that I don't want to be saved,
- 51:33Speaker 3: if I don't believe.
- 51:34Speaker 2: If I continue in sin and God snatches or takes
- 51:37Speaker 2: my salvation away, or I say that my faith is
- 51:40Speaker 2: no longer in Christ, then that seal, I can break it.
- 51:45Speaker 3: It's gone. Okay? That's the Arminian. I'm sort of.
- 51:51Speaker 2: Exaggerating a little bit, but that's the Arminian view.
- 51:55Speaker 3: The seal can be broken. Okay?
- 51:59Speaker 2: I've heard Pastor Lauren Lawson say it's a very difficult
- 52:02Speaker 2: thing For an individual to lose their salvation. But he
- 52:05Speaker 2: says it's possible. It's very difficult. That's what one person says.
- 52:12Speaker 2: I'm sure many say that.
- 52:14Speaker 3: Alrighty. So quickly. Argument number three.
- 52:20Speaker 1: Okay.
- 52:20Speaker 3: Can't even read it. Because it's blocked there. Okay. Argument
- 52:27Speaker 3: number three. This argument.
- 52:32Speaker 2: Says that Christians can rest in the assurance of their salvation.
- 52:37Speaker 2: And I'll give you one scripture. These things have I
- 52:41Speaker 2: written unto you that ye believe on the name of
- 52:44Speaker 2: the Son of God, that ye may know that ye
- 52:47Speaker 2: have eternal life. That is the Calvinist view, that ye
- 52:51Speaker 2: may know that you have eternal life and that ye
- 52:54Speaker 2: may believe on the name of the Son of God,
- 52:59Speaker 2: that ye may know.
- 53:02Speaker 1: Okay.
- 53:04Speaker 3: I said one more verse, two more verses. Okay.
- 53:08Speaker 1: Alrighty.
- 53:08Speaker 2: These, these last, uh, these last two verses, um, I promise, uh,
- 53:15Speaker 2: being confident, uh, of this very thing as the verse
- 53:18Speaker 2: I just gave from Philippians one, six, being confident of
- 53:21Speaker 2: this very thing that he who has performed, performed a
- 53:24Speaker 2: good work in you will perform it until the day
- 53:28Speaker 2: of Jesus Christ. The day of Jesus Christ is the
- 53:29Speaker 2: day that he returns through the rapture and takes us
- 53:31Speaker 2: all away or the point in time where we die.
- 53:35Speaker 3: That's the day of Jesus Christ.
- 53:37Speaker 2: Until the end, until our very end on this earth,
- 53:40Speaker 2: he will perform the work in us, the work that
- 53:43Speaker 2: keeps us who we are in him.
- 53:46Speaker 3: That's what this verse is saying.
- 53:48Speaker 2: And finally, and I give unto them eternal life and
- 53:53Speaker 2: they shall never perish. Neither shall any man pluck them
- 53:58Speaker 2: out of my hand. This is Jesus speaking. my father
- 54:02Speaker 2: which gave them me is greater than all, and no
- 54:06Speaker 2: man is able to pluck them out of my father's hand.
- 54:10Speaker 2: And the Arminian view, which is very common, yes, no
- 54:17Speaker 2: man can pluck us out of his hand, and even
- 54:23Speaker 2: though our father who is greater than all, we can choose,
- 54:28Speaker 2: we can opt to.
- 54:32Speaker 3: Get out of his hand. Okay?
- 54:33Speaker 2: That's basically the Arminian view. Yes, we're secure in his hand,
- 54:38Speaker 2: but we can take ourselves out of his hand.
- 54:42Speaker 3: We can get out. Okay? Using that same language. We
- 54:45Speaker 3: can worm our way out of his hand.
- 54:48Speaker 1: Okay?
- 54:50Speaker 3: So, we presented both sides. Amen?
- 54:55Speaker 2: We presented both sides of this argument, and I'm sure
- 54:58Speaker 2: I have a little bit more here, but we're going
- 55:00Speaker 2: to stop right there. Yeah, I did have a little
- 55:05Speaker 2: bit more. Well, let's look at it real quick. We
- 55:08Speaker 2: still got a couple of minutes. We'll go to about nine.
- 55:11Speaker 2: Those who believe in eternal security believe that if salvation
- 55:16Speaker 2: can be lost, and these are the logical arguments put
- 55:21Speaker 2: forth by those who believe that you cannot lose your salvation, okay?
- 55:27Speaker 2: If you can lose your salvation, according to the Calvinists,
- 55:32Speaker 2: then the sealing of the spirit is meaningless. You're not
- 55:35Speaker 2: really sealed. You think you're sealed, but you can get out.
- 55:38Speaker 2: So you're not really in there. You can get out
- 55:40Speaker 2: anytime you want.
- 55:41Speaker 3: Okay.
- 55:43Speaker 2: Number two, Christ's righteousness is not enough. We have his righteousness.
- 55:49Speaker 2: First Corinthians chapter five, first Corinthians chapter five and verse
- 55:54Speaker 2: number 21.
- 55:58Speaker 3: Real quick. First Corinthians chapter five. I'm sure that's where
- 56:01Speaker 3: it is. Then again, it may not be. Okay. Second Corinthians.
- 56:05Speaker 2: It's second Corinthians chapter five and verse number 21. For
- 56:10Speaker 2: he has made him to be sin for us who
- 56:13Speaker 2: knew no sin that we might be made the righteousness
- 56:16Speaker 2: of God in him. But hey, if you can lose
- 56:20Speaker 2: your salvation according to the Calvinist, then Christ's.
- 56:23Speaker 3: Righteousness is not enough. Okay.
- 56:25Speaker 2: Number three, eternal life is not eternal. What does eternal
- 56:29Speaker 2: mean if it doesn't mean eternal? Okay, does it mean temporary, really?
- 56:34Speaker 2: Does it mean partly? What does eternal mean? Okay, once again,
- 56:37Speaker 2: this is the logic of the Calvinists, those who believe
- 56:44Speaker 2: that you can lose your salvation. God's promises fail. All
- 56:48Speaker 2: the scriptures that we spoke about that seem to prove
- 56:51Speaker 2: that you cannot lose your salvation, they're null and void, okay?
- 56:58Speaker 2: The cross is insufficient. If, according to the Calvinists, you
- 57:04Speaker 2: can lose your salvation, if it all can be forfeited, okay,
- 57:09Speaker 2: then the cross is insufficient and salvation becomes performance-based.
- 57:15Speaker 3: You got to keep your faith.
- 57:16Speaker 2: If you don't keep your faith, if you don't keep
- 57:18Speaker 2: your faith in Christ, if you mess up, if you.
- 57:22Speaker 3: Don't obey, it becomes performance-based. according to the Calvinist.
- 57:28Speaker 1: Amen?
- 57:28Speaker 3: So, there you have it, ladies and gentlemen. That is
- 57:32Speaker 3: the final slide.
- 57:35Speaker 2: Let me just say that there are individuals on both sides,
- 57:39Speaker 2: and I didn't put a slide, but there is, and
- 57:43Speaker 2: some people say that this is a cop-out, but there
- 57:45Speaker 2: is a such thing, I mentioned it last week, there
- 57:48Speaker 2: is a such thing as a Calminian.
- 57:51Speaker 3: A Calminian.
- 57:53Speaker 2: A Calminian is someone who It's somewhere in the middle
- 57:58Speaker 2: who adopt some of the views of the Arminian side
- 58:03Speaker 2: and also some of the views of the Calvinist side.
- 58:08Speaker 2: And it's an effort to sort of bring them together.
- 58:12Speaker 2: And it's called Calvinianism.
- 58:17Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 58:18Speaker 3: Okay.
- 58:19Speaker 2: So there you have it. We've laid out both sides.
- 58:25Speaker 2: And there you have it.
- 58:27Speaker 3: Amen.
- 58:27Speaker 2: Thank you so much for staying with us. Thank you
- 58:34Speaker 2: so much for being a part of this study. We
- 58:38Speaker 2: pray that it has been beneficial to you. We pray
- 58:41Speaker 2: that you will continue to trust in the Lord Jesus Christ,
- 58:45Speaker 2: who he is and what he has done.
- 58:49Speaker 3: And just continue to trust him. Continue to trust him. Amen.
- 58:52Speaker 3: That is what is most important.
- 58:56Speaker 2: I've always said not to worry about these things that
- 59:00Speaker 2: we've been talking about so much.
- 59:03Speaker 3: If you're saved, be saved, okay? If you love him,
- 59:07Speaker 3: continue to love him, okay?
- 59:10Speaker 2: If your faith is in the Lord, keep your faith
- 59:12Speaker 2: in the Lord, okay? And you should not be wondering
- 59:15Speaker 2: or worrying either way. Did I lose my salvation? Can
- 59:18Speaker 2: I lose my salvation?
- 59:21Speaker 3: If you know you're in Christ, you're in Christ. There
- 59:25Speaker 3: you have it, okay?
- 59:27Speaker 1: All righty.
- 59:28Speaker 2: The next time we come together will be on Sunday.
- 59:30Speaker 2: I will be here on Sunday, on the Sunday sermon series.
- 59:35Speaker 2: Thursday morning at 10 a.m., myself and Juliana Croshaw, we
- 59:40Speaker 2: will continue in our study in the book of John,
- 59:44Speaker 2: the gospel of John.
- 59:45Speaker 1: Amen.
- 59:45Speaker 3: I believe we are in chapter number two.
- 59:48Speaker 1: Amen.

- 1:00:37Speaker 2: much for being a part. It's been a good night.

- 1:00:58Speaker 3: Uh, thank you.
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: Uh, I see Terrence has put a, a lexical, a summary,
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: a word study here.
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: Thank you so much for that.
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: Amen.
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: A double negative, which can be a matter of fact.
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: Uh, I get it.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: Yep. Yep.
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: Uh, Bishop Brown. Thank you also for watching.
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: Amen.
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: And, um, thank you all for being a part. Amen.
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: I know it's been a, it's been a lot. It
