- 0:00Speaker 1: Let's move on to Atlanta.
- 0:02Speaker 2: This is an interesting one for a Georgia guy for
- 0:04Speaker 2: sure to talk about, but Tennessee and Georgia Tech. The
- 0:10Speaker 2: Yellow Jackets, man, not a great showing last Thursday night,
- 0:14Speaker 2: a week ago, when this will come out on Thursday,
- 0:18Speaker 2: against Colorado. This is presented by PrizePix. I'll talk more
- 0:21Speaker 2: about them in a little bit. But I still don't
- 0:25Speaker 2: believe what I saw, that a Brent Key coach team
- 0:27Speaker 2: was out physical in the trenches. Now, I will say,
- 0:31Speaker 2: they play Georgia every year. I'll give them that one.
- 0:34Speaker 2: But for a Brent Key team to just get dominated
- 0:38Speaker 2: and not be able to run the ball, I understand
- 0:41Speaker 2: they lost Faulkner. I understand they had to go get
- 0:42Speaker 2: the Mendoza kid because Philo left. I get all that,
- 0:45Speaker 2: but I was pretty surprised to see.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Colorado do what they did. And we'll get to Tennessee,
- 0:50Speaker 1: I guess, in a moment.
- 0:50Speaker 2: But Georgia Tech, I feel like, has to do some
- 0:53Speaker 2: soul-searching between that game and what'll happen on Saturday.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Well, they do, and if you can allow me to
- 1:00Speaker 3: be so self-promoting for a moment again, if we go
- 1:06Speaker 3: back to those trenches metrics at dogcentral.com that I was
- 1:09Speaker 3: just talking about, and we take a look at first
- 1:13Speaker 3: contact yards created in week one, you want to know
- 1:18Speaker 3: who was last in the country? It's Georgia Tech, number
- 1:21Speaker 3: 68 in the P4, negative 16.
- 1:25Speaker 1: I believe that. I believe it. Like, and you, and
- 1:28Speaker 1: you thought Haynes would be there and be really good.
- 1:30Speaker 2: And I understand that they didn't have the threat of,
- 1:32Speaker 2: of the quarterback's legs quite as much this year, but
- 1:36Speaker 2: holy cow, man, to get dominated by Colorado like that.
- 1:39Speaker 2: And I didn't even, I didn't even know that was
- 1:40Speaker 2: a stat before you just brought.
- 1:42Speaker 4: It up, but like, that's a, that's a custom made
- 1:48Speaker 4: up dog central stat, but we're proud of, you know, we're,
- 1:51Speaker 4: we're trench aware.
- 1:52Speaker 5: So, We love the big fellas.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Well, and I know, it is so cliche. We're like, oh,
- 1:57Speaker 2: if you win the game of trenches, you'll... Yeah, I
- 1:59Speaker 2: get that. I get that that's the easiest analysis that
- 2:01Speaker 2: happens in football. But you could see it last week, man.
- 2:05Speaker 2: They got no push. Everything was getting hit in the background.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Backfield. So, I don't know.
- 2:10Speaker 2: It's dangerous against the Tennessee front that I think is
- 2:13Speaker 2: going to get after it.
- 2:14Speaker 5: Yeah, it is. And, you know, I think that if you.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Tennessee....
- 2:24Speaker 3: Just kind of tends to– one of the strengths of
- 2:26Speaker 3: their defense tends to be that sort of outside linebacker
- 2:30Speaker 3: edge position where you've got a little bit twitchier action
- 2:35Speaker 3: off of the pass rush side. You look at their
- 2:39Speaker 3: pass rush last week. I know it's Furman, but it's
- 2:42Speaker 3: what we've got. Xavier Gilliam, I thought, you know, three.
- 2:46Speaker 4: Sacks for that guy.
- 2:47Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:49Speaker 3: That's not bad from a defensive tackle, kind of more
- 2:52Speaker 3: of an interior lineman position. I'd be very worried about
- 2:56Speaker 3: that if I was a Georgia Tech fan based on
- 2:59Speaker 3: what I saw against Colorado.
- 3:00Speaker 5: Because Colorado, they did a good job in Rundy, but.
- 3:06Speaker 3: Their pass rush was not overly impactful, I thought, in
- 3:10Speaker 3: that game.
- 3:11Speaker 5: For the most part, Alberto had time to do different things.
- 3:14Speaker 3: He had a lot of time to escape the pocket
- 3:18Speaker 3: and kind of freelance, but you're talking about a defensive tackle.
- 3:23Speaker 3: If you are telling me a defensive tackle might be
- 3:26Speaker 3: disruptive to the passing game for Georgia Tech, then I'm
- 3:31Speaker 3: not sure what they can do, right? Because we know
- 3:34Speaker 3: that the run push has not been there. I do
- 3:37Speaker 3: expect a bounce back performance, though, on some level, just
- 3:41Speaker 3: based on emotions and Having Brent Key talk bad about
- 3:45Speaker 3: them in the press and all of those things, I
- 3:48Speaker 3: wouldn't be at all surprised if we saw a little
- 3:51Speaker 3: bit more. But it will be interesting to see if
- 3:59Speaker 3: Georgia Tech can find any run push at all.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Other side of the ball, it was Furman.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Josh Heifel's a quarterback-friendly coach.
- 4:11Speaker 1: He does a great job, obviously, offensively.
- 4:13Speaker 2: But how impressed were you walking away after seeing Faison
- 4:17Speaker 2: Brandon do that as a true freshman?
- 4:19Speaker 1: I get it. There's a lot of factors. They've got
- 4:21Speaker 1: a great offensive line. They've got a great running game.
- 4:22Speaker 1: They've got a great coach. They've got good weapons.
- 4:25Speaker 2: You could not put a quarterback into a better offensive
- 4:27Speaker 2: system than you did Faison Brandon, but you're still going
- 4:30Speaker 2: to go out there and make throws.
- 4:31Speaker 1: You're still going to be twitchy. You're still going to
- 4:32Speaker 1: beat guys off the edge. And I get it.
- 4:34Speaker 2: It's Furman, but I walked away very impressed with the
- 4:37Speaker 2: way he looked on Saturday.
- 4:39Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:39Speaker 3: I mean, look, I'm from North Carolina originally, and and
- 4:45Speaker 3: connected to people in that state and the football world.
- 4:48Speaker 5: And I've been a big phase on Brandon fan for
- 4:51Speaker 5: a long time. You know, I mean, he's, I think
- 4:55Speaker 5: worthy of the hype in a lot of ways.
- 4:57Speaker 3: And what I was most impressed about in that game,
- 5:00Speaker 3: like we know that any five-star quarterback that Tennessee is
- 5:05Speaker 3: going to probably go recruit is going to be able
- 5:07Speaker 3: to throw the deep ball and a Josh Hypel offense.
- 5:09Speaker 3: And he threw the deep ball very well, but we
- 5:12Speaker 3: didn't see him, come anywhere close to throwing a turnover
- 5:16Speaker 3: like I didn't see a ball that should have been
- 5:18Speaker 3: interception intercepted and got.
- 5:20Speaker 5: Dropped or anything like that and.
- 5:23Speaker 3: You know I mean if you're telling me that he
- 5:25Speaker 3: can sort of manage along this will be a totally
- 5:28Speaker 3: different level of test right it will but if you're
- 5:31Speaker 3: telling me there's a universe where you can kind of
- 5:34Speaker 3: get some of those upside flashes from him downfield at
- 5:37Speaker 3: times and and he's gonna be able to manage the
- 5:42Speaker 3: risk then that could be a recipe for success. If
- 5:45Speaker 3: this Tennessee defense is, is more like the one that
- 5:48Speaker 3: we saw two years ago and less like the one
- 5:51Speaker 3: that we saw last year.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Yeah. With, with bringing Jim Knowles in and now they
- 5:55Speaker 1: have lost some pieces and fortunately they get Aaron Carter
- 5:58Speaker 1: back this week, but they have lost some pieces with
- 6:01Speaker 1: Farouk in the secondary.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Obviously Chaz didn't end up ever playing with the team
- 6:05Speaker 2: a little bit, I guess in spring they have lost
- 6:07Speaker 2: some pieces.
- 6:07Speaker 1: They've had some injuries. They're always banged up in the secondary.
- 6:10Speaker 2: I feel like, but it, I don't think it would
- 6:13Speaker 2: surprise anybody if their defense didn't just take a little
- 6:15Speaker 2: bit of a step with bringing Jim Knowles in and
- 6:19Speaker 2: bringing in some transfers and having a little bit more intensity.
- 6:22Speaker 2: They've got a tough schedule, and I know we're talking
- 6:24Speaker 2: about this game specifically, but they do play Texas.
- 6:26Speaker 1: They do play LSU goes up there as well.
- 6:30Speaker 2: They've got a tough road this year, but in this
- 6:34Speaker 2: matchup specifically, man, I think Georgia Tech's defense I don't
- 6:37Speaker 2: think was terrible, and I didn't think Julian Lewis was great.
- 6:40Speaker 1: He's from not too far from me there, right? I
- 6:42Speaker 1: guess at Buford. But I didn't think Julian Lewis was great, really,
- 6:44Speaker 1: until that last drive.
- 6:46Speaker 2: But, you know, I do think Georgia Tech's defense will
- 6:51Speaker 2: certainly present a little bit more of a challenge than
- 6:55Speaker 2: Furman's did. But I think it's a tall task to
- 6:59Speaker 2: ask them to stop Tennessee. Like, I think if you're
- 7:04Speaker 2: Georgia Tech and you hold Tennessee under 27? I feel
- 7:09Speaker 2: like that's a massive win this weekend.
- 7:13Speaker 5: Yeah, it probably is.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Is that number too high? Is 24 where you need
- 7:16Speaker 2: to be? I'll get right back to the video, but
- 7:18Speaker 2: first I want to give some love to our friends
- 7:20Speaker 2: over at PrizePix. There's a ton on the PrizePix app
- 7:22Speaker 2: right now that you can go get. There was a
- 7:24Speaker 2: free play tonight here on Wednesday night for Sam Darnold.
- 7:27Speaker 2: There have been free plays for all this NFL opening
- 7:30Speaker 2: weekend stuff that you can find.
- 7:32Speaker 1: And then, of course, why we're here. College football.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Whether you're looking for Jeremiah Smith or Arch Manning or
- 7:36Speaker 2: you're looking for Satanga at Oklahoma or you're looking for
- 7:39Speaker 2: something with Michigan because you want to take a less,
- 7:41Speaker 2: whatever you're looking for, they've got you taken care of.
- 7:43Speaker 2: We showed a lot of love to Faison Brandon tonight.
- 7:45Speaker 2: You can go look at his lines against Georgia Tech.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Go check out the more or less options that you've
- 7:51Speaker 2: got over on the PrizePix app. All new users there
- 7:53Speaker 2: who play $ 5 and win that first lineup using code
- 7:56Speaker 2: H and make it 150 in lineups instantly.
- 7:58Speaker 1: We appreciate PrizePix for their support. Go check them out.
- 8:03Speaker 3: But no, well, I mean, I don't know if, I
- 8:05Speaker 3: don't know if Georgia tech can score 27 in this game.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Oh yeah.
- 8:08Speaker 2: I agree with that, but I still think like holding
- 8:11Speaker 2: them to less than four touchdowns would be a big win.
- 8:14Speaker 3: I mean, what I'll say is this about Georgia tech's
- 8:17Speaker 3: last game, uh, the, the guys that transferred in that,
- 8:22Speaker 3: like you, you need to play up to their high
- 8:26Speaker 3: school recruiting rankings, like, like in Bachway in the secondary
- 8:30Speaker 3: from Alabama, uh, didn't. And I just, I know that
- 8:36Speaker 3: Colorado didn't get anything going much through the air until
- 8:41Speaker 3: that final drive, but I don't know that that's entirely
- 8:45Speaker 3: because of Georgia tech.
- 8:46Speaker 5: Being great in the backend.
- 8:48Speaker 3: I think it might be a little bit more to
- 8:50Speaker 3: do with the limitations of Colorado's receiving weapons this season,
- 8:54Speaker 3: which is not a limitation that Tennessee is going to
- 8:56Speaker 3: have with Matthews stretching things vertically and and Braylon Staley
- 9:01Speaker 3: working out of the slot. Like that's, I, I, I,
- 9:05Speaker 3: that is one question I have about the phase on
- 9:07Speaker 3: Brandon experience is like, can he kind of make some
- 9:11Speaker 3: more of those quick game distribution throws or, or, you know,
- 9:15Speaker 3: kind of hit some of that stuff in stride for
- 9:17Speaker 3: a guy like Staley to work after the catch to
- 9:19Speaker 3: the maximum of his potential.
- 9:21Speaker 5: But I.
- 9:24Speaker 3: Don't know that Georgia tech's secondary is going to be
- 9:27Speaker 3: super sticky in this game. which means they probably can't
- 9:30Speaker 3: play men, which means they they're going to have to
- 9:33Speaker 3: play zone, which means that they're maybe not going to
- 9:37Speaker 3: be quite as close up to the line of scrimmage
- 9:40Speaker 3: at times against this run game. And that takes us
- 9:43Speaker 3: back around to those Tennessee running backs who I think
- 9:48Speaker 3: very highly of.
- 9:49Speaker 5: Right. So it's like that Colorado.
- 9:52Speaker 2: If Colorado was running the way they did last week,
- 9:55Speaker 2: You know, like Bishop had to be licking his lips
- 9:57Speaker 2: at the chance to go run in Atlanta next or,
- 10:00Speaker 2: you know, in three days.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Well, yeah.
- 10:02Speaker 3: And the other side of that too, is that Colorado
- 10:04Speaker 3: ran the way that they did in that game without
- 10:07Speaker 3: Julian Lewis.
- 10:09Speaker 5: I mean, I know that he did.
- 10:10Speaker 3: Some stuff, but like, he's not a, he's not phase
- 10:13Speaker 3: on Brandon physically in terms of being, you know, six,
- 10:16Speaker 3: four and, kind of has a more of a frame
- 10:19Speaker 3: that's probably made to absorb some contact. Like Brandon against
- 10:23Speaker 3: Furman was 97 yard or wait, no, I'm sorry. 76
- 10:27Speaker 3: yards rushing on nine carries. So like 8.4 yards in
- 10:30Speaker 3: attempt and two touchdowns on the ground, you're putting all
- 10:34Speaker 3: of that element back into the hypo offense. That's just
- 10:39Speaker 3: a lot for this Georgia tech defense to, to deal with.
- 10:42Speaker 3: And I'd, I don't think that bodes very well for them, to.
- 10:45Speaker 5: Be quite frank with you. I think that that is
- 10:48Speaker 5: a problem for them.
- 10:50Speaker 3: It's like, hey guys, you couldn't just beat Colorado's offensive
- 10:54Speaker 3: line up front when it came to holding space, and
- 10:57Speaker 3: now here comes a QB run element and a lot
- 11:00Speaker 3: more challenges probably with setting the edge, and you're going
- 11:03Speaker 3: to have to figure that out on the fly.
- 11:07Speaker 2: I want to zoom out big picture on Tennessee for
- 11:10Speaker 2: just a sec, but Does Faison Brandon, and just seeing
- 11:15Speaker 2: him in one week against Furman might not be enough,
- 11:18Speaker 2: but you know him from before playing in that one game, right?
- 11:24Speaker 2: Before this nine months or so that he's been in school.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Does he change their ceiling at all? For Tennessee, realistically,
- 11:33Speaker 2: I talked about some of the tough games.
- 11:34Speaker 1: You've got Texas coming up on the 26th.
- 11:36Speaker 2: You've got LSU coming later this year, which LSU after
- 11:39Speaker 2: week one, probably looks better than anybody thought. We'll see
- 11:42Speaker 2: how good Clemson truly is for the rest of the
- 11:44Speaker 2: year and how that all shakes out. But you've got
- 11:47Speaker 2: tough games. If you're Tennessee, those two specifically, there are others,
- 11:53Speaker 2: but are, are they a team that can compete for,
- 11:57Speaker 2: I don't know, to play in December at any point?
- 11:59Speaker 2: Is it, you know, but did you think that way
- 12:02Speaker 2: about them before this season started?
- 12:06Speaker 5: I was high on Brandon.
- 12:07Speaker 3: So, I mean, I, I gave some takes this offseason
- 12:11Speaker 3: on some SEC preview content stuff that I did that
- 12:16Speaker 3: I don't think it was a bad play. I bet
- 12:20Speaker 3: Tennessee's win total over, which was at 7.5.
- 12:22Speaker 1: I like them to get to at least 8.
- 12:26Speaker 5: I also thought, hey, this is a good place to
- 12:29Speaker 5: take a flyer.
- 12:30Speaker 3: On a CFP future because not to sound rude or anything,
- 12:36Speaker 3: but like They don't play Georgia this year.
- 12:40Speaker 5: That's been their bugaboo.
- 12:42Speaker 3: They've shown they can knock off Alabama in the good years.
- 12:46Speaker 5: They've shown that.
- 12:48Speaker 3: They can deal with the Florida situation. I just kind
- 12:53Speaker 3: of think, hey, depending on how the rest of this
- 12:55Speaker 3: league falls, they have a chance to be pretty good.
- 12:59Speaker 3: I'm not entirely sure that they won't beat.
- 13:02Speaker 5: Texas when Texas comes to Knoxville.
- 13:04Speaker 2: We talked about Texas a little bit ago, but I mean,
- 13:07Speaker 2: their schedule is Texas. Once they get into SEC play,
- 13:11Speaker 2: it's Texas. It won't be easy, but it's there. Against
- 13:15Speaker 2: Auburn at home, you'd probably like them to win that game.
- 13:18Speaker 2: On the road at Arkansas, you'd like them to win
- 13:20Speaker 2: that game. Bama's tough, but that's also at home. They
- 13:23Speaker 2: get Texas and Bama at home. They go to South Carolina.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Not that Sellers can't go off or that Stewart can't
- 13:29Speaker 2: have a great game, but you'd probably like them there.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Will Stein, again, that's at home. You go to A
- 13:34Speaker 1: & M, which I do think is tough.
- 13:37Speaker 2: I kind of, again, let me see a little bit
- 13:40Speaker 2: more for Brandon, but I'm not counting that as a
- 13:42Speaker 2: loss by any means. And then you got LSU at home.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Their toughest three games are at home. Texas, Bama, and LSU.
- 13:49Speaker 2: If you take care of business with A & M,
- 13:50Speaker 2: and then they play Vandy at the end, if you
- 13:52Speaker 2: take care of A & M on the road, and
- 13:55Speaker 2: you just steal one of those three games at home,
- 13:57Speaker 2: you obviously can't drop another one somewhere that you can't
- 14:01Speaker 2: drop the Auburn game or the Kentucky game. But all
- 14:03Speaker 2: three of their toughest games are at home. you just
- 14:06Speaker 2: steal one of them, man. And you're talking about a
- 14:07Speaker 2: playoff team.
- 14:08Speaker 5: That's what I'm saying. Yeah. And I mean, as far
- 14:11Speaker 5: as home field advantages, there's few better in the sport.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Correct.
- 14:14Speaker 5: Yeah. So I'm with you, man. I mean, as far
- 14:17Speaker 5: as this game in particular, I.
- 14:20Speaker 3: Find myself, I feel like Tennessee will win this game,
- 14:24Speaker 3: but I think Georgia tech will rally. I think that,
- 14:27Speaker 3: you know, I have some trust in the Brinkey culture
- 14:31Speaker 3: in general. I think that he'll do a good job
- 14:34Speaker 3: getting them off the mat.
- 14:36Speaker 5: They can't play any worse up front. They really can't.
- 14:39Speaker 5: They've got to get Mendoza's legs involved in all this
- 14:42Speaker 5: as well.
- 14:44Speaker 3: Is he going to go 60 to the house on anybody? No,
- 14:47Speaker 3: but what is a good cure for issues in the
- 14:52Speaker 3: run game? To stretch things out a little bit and
- 14:56Speaker 3: have some of these longer mesh points and keep defensive
- 14:59Speaker 3: linemen from.
- 14:59Speaker 5: Crashing as quickly and as early on plays.
- 15:03Speaker 3: So, I think Georgia Tech keeps it close. I think
- 15:08Speaker 3: they keep it within the 12 and a half, but
- 15:12Speaker 3: I do like Tennessee to win, and this game to
- 15:17Speaker 3: me feels like one where the over is very interesting
- 15:23Speaker 3: in this game because we just saw Colorado and Georgia
- 15:27Speaker 3: Tech play this absolute slogfest, and then Vegas goes out
- 15:30Speaker 3: and hangs over under 55 and a half in this game,
- 15:34Speaker 3: which tells me You know, I don't know if they're
- 15:36Speaker 3: banking that off the priors from last year's Tennessee defense,
- 15:39Speaker 3: which was maybe the worst in the SEC outside of Starkville.
- 15:45Speaker 3: But it's just very– it's just that that is one
- 15:48Speaker 3: of those that I look at in a week two scenario.
- 15:51Speaker 3: And to be totally God honest with you, I got
- 15:55Speaker 3: nothing in my analysis that backs it up. But, like,
- 15:59Speaker 3: it just feels like somebody knows something that I don't know.
- 16:02Speaker 3: So give me Georgia Tech to cover– And I'll, I'll
- 16:05Speaker 3: take the over in this game.
- 16:07Speaker 5: Cause I, I think somebody knows something.
- 16:09Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 16:11Speaker 2: I think the, uh, yeah, no, I really like, I mean, I,
- 16:14Speaker 2: I love Tennessee to win. I, I think that they
- 16:17Speaker 2: are going to kind of roll. It wouldn't surprise me
- 16:20Speaker 2: at all. If this is close for a half, I
- 16:21Speaker 2: looked at the first half spread. It's seven and a
- 16:23Speaker 2: half Tennessee.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Um, I don't know that I love that.
- 16:26Speaker 2: If I could get it under the hook, then I
- 16:27Speaker 2: probably would like it more, but, um, I'm especially scared
- 16:32Speaker 2: of hooks in the first half when things are typically
- 16:34Speaker 2: a little lower scoring, I feel like. So I do
- 16:37Speaker 2: like Tennessee to win.
- 16:40Speaker 1: The line is dropping.
- 16:41Speaker 2: It was 14 earlier today, 14.5 at one point I
- 16:43Speaker 2: saw it. So to be at 12.5 right now, not that.
- 16:46Speaker 1: This is like a huge betting liner show. Was it 14.5?
- 16:48Speaker 3: I saw it at 14.5, yeah, like on Fander at
- 16:50Speaker 3: one point.
- 16:50Speaker 1: That is interesting. So I don't know why that's come down.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Probably because 14-8 crossed the line, so it needed to
- 17:01Speaker 2: balance back out a bit when it.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Was that high. But yeah, I kind of like them
- 17:08Speaker 1: to win by two touchdowns.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Even if that's just kind of a late score, I
- 17:12Speaker 2: just wonder if Georgia Tech will be able to do enough.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Offensively.
- 17:18Speaker 2: That's my big concern. So I guess give me them
- 17:21Speaker 2: to cover, too. I'll take Tennessee to cover on.
- 17:23Speaker 1: It as well.
- 17:25Speaker 5: Yeah, right now it's sitting at 12.5.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I should pull up the app to look.
- 17:30Speaker 5: 13 at one place, but yeah.
- 17:33Speaker 3: I mean, I would say if this gets down to 11.
- 17:39Speaker 5: It probably swings the other way for me.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:42Speaker 6: But 13 is– I think 13 in college football is
- 17:47Speaker 6: often a bigger key number than 14 with the way
- 17:50Speaker 6: that some of these teams manage– if they're trying to
- 17:53Speaker 6: come from behind and they go for two, right.
- 17:56Speaker 5: And like all of that starts happening. So it is,
- 17:59Speaker 5: it is sort of in that, that swing zone. Absolutely.
