- Speedcafe Team: This week on Full Credit to the Noise, George Russell is back in the fight. Adelaide goes to court. And the Colopinto cannonball comes to Baku. Welcome to Full Credit to the Noise. Well hello. Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, and welcome to Full Credit to the Noise. You can find this podcast on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook at FCTN Podcast. You can find me on Instagram, Twitter, Blue Sky, and Facebook at former underscore legend. You can find the bloke across me on Twitter at AVL underscore motorsport. He's on Instagram at AVL dot motorsport. He's a man who this week said he saw nothing wrong with Lockie Neal getting off by using the good bloke exemption. He is denied he is the order ego named Joshua Hogan, and tonight He's wearing Kylie Minogue's hot pants. Welcome to Speed Cafes, Andrew Van Lewen. Hello former. Did you ⁓ did you catch a bit of Kylie's pre game before the group? But she ⁓ swarmed at the job. But ⁓ yeah, the first the first maybe one or two minutes I thought, ⁓ this is a bit of a train wreck, but no, it got got better and ⁓ s scrubs up nicely at that age too, just quietly. Yeah, that is a ⁓ that is a point that was on my list here, but it's ⁓ It's what are your thoughts on ⁓ NRL saying we don't need this sort of rubbish. We're saving them money. That is a genuine cop out, to be fair. ⁓ that's ⁓ PVL, your man, doing ⁓ what he does best. But ⁓ I th get the ⁓ or I get a little whisper that ⁓ there will be a music act this Sunday. It will be Australian and it will be just above a r ⁓ pub band, to be fair. But ⁓ we will have something. It would feel like tough to have nothing after that. 'Cause that was a pretty good pregame. It was a good pre game from the AFL. And it's ⁓ and I sort of do take the point of going, right, how much money are we spending on this? Do we really need it? But then I don't know, if someone else is doing it and you're locked in a bit of a bit of a battle over who's leading the way in terms of the footy code wars at the moment, I sort of feel like doing nothing isn't necessary. To be fair Yeah. And I I'm I'm with you. I'm all for ⁓ for the grand final experience being more than just a game of footy, no matter what code you follow, I think it should have some entertainment component to it. But to be fair, the one that we all talk about is meatloaf. So Yeah, the bad one. Does it does it really mean much? You're right. Maybe not. Maybe not. Yeah, no. Fantastic ⁓ that Kylie was there and like you say, just wow. ⁓ That's what you said. Unbelievable. Just defining defying time. Alright, let's talk about things closer to motorsporting. The F1 at Baku, one of my favourite tracks, AVL. Although this year, under this new regulation, I thought it lost a bit of its luster. Or am I missing something, do you reckon? Still a pretty good race. Good race. Still a pretty good race. It's still a track where you need to put it on the line at certain points. Like you can't. drain enough power out of the cars through that castle section for it not to be really sketchy, which is something that I really like about it. So I still think that it was a ⁓ I th the long straights obviously they aren't the friends of of these twenty twenty six cars. We know that. But ⁓ but I still thought it was a decent, even qualifying, although I think we saw the worst of the advantage of the deployment of the of A the Mercedes Power Unit, but even compared to the other Mercedes power units. ⁓ in terms of George being on pole by eight tenths. But it was yeah, the the race was pretty good. It was a fun Saturday night. Well let's just talk on qualifying. Like you said, bigger story out of qualifying was current points leader, Kimi Antonelli, walling it at turn one and not getting out of Q three, classified sixteenth. ⁓ but then George Russell took his first pole position since June to beat Charlotte Claire by almost a full second. Oscar Piastri was third. Isaac Hadger was fourth and he's returned to racing from Lando and then ⁓ a number of late ⁓ fast laps in Q three were wiped because ⁓ because Lando went off, including Max Verstappen, who had to start in eighth, Liam Lawson was twelfth. And then in the race, George Russell broke through for his third win of the season, leading every lap of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix to hold off Max Verstappen by just point nine one nine sixth of a second in a race filled with crashes and safety cars. And while a second safety car brought Verstappen right under ⁓ George's rear wing. He was able to hold off the four-time world champion by the narrative of margins to claim his victory. It was a strong drive also, not only from Verstappen but from teammate Isaac Hadjar, who we just said is returned back to the to racing after a broken wrist. And mate, is there a worse injury than a broken wrist, Avio, when you've got a three months left on your ⁓ VPN? Charlotte Clare finished fourth. Kimmy Antonelli was fifth all the way from sixteenth. Massive drive. You were very critical of Oscar Piastri, ⁓ who looks set for his third podium of the season, but ⁓ he had a bit of a lock up and then basically went off after a safety car restart and dropped him out of the points entirely. Lendo Norris was an innocent victim in Alpine teammates Franco Colapinto and Pierre Gasly colliding. ⁓ to he took the that took the world rating world champion out in that process. And let's quickly talk about the late crash into the barriers by Valkyrie Bottas Avial because he did a deep dive this afternoon. And I don't know whether you notice, but that still has not been shown on any of the coverage. But I watched a video on YouTube today and it outlines the reasons to why he crashed and also why we didn't get to see on the coverage, including any replay. So the car's software got confused about where it was in the lap and it harvested way too much energy too severely, which then maxed out the regenerative braking. ⁓ allowed for that lap. So it basically stopped the regenerative braking in the rear axle and that left Bottas with a greatly reduced rear braking ⁓ balance just as he comes into a braking zone and he went head on into the wall, even though he was doing fifty kilometers an hour slower in that corner than the lap before. So maybe software determining how much braking you have available and where it thinks it is on the track is not the best of ideas. Yeah. Yeah I think that's a fair statement to make. ⁓ and why they wouldn't show that on TV apparently is because, well, it's just not a good news story that ⁓ a cra a car decides to crash on its own almost. Yeah, maybe not. I mean, I haven't seen what you're talking about, so I'm not a hundred percent sure. I mean, a a crash from a back marker at that stage of the race kind of it wouldn't normally get a whole bunch of replays and stuff anyway, because you're you're about to see someone win the race and all that sort of stuff. And it obviously was wasn't in ultimately you know, a massive part of that. There was only lap to go, there was no safety car or whatever. So ⁓ but yeah, look, going back to the top, ⁓ I think it was a pretty important race for both Mercedes drivers. Like George Russell needed that. ⁓ I'm sure it would do his confidence the world of good and and realistically he's playing a game of salvage the reputation this year rather than really fighting for the title. ⁓ at least for now. ⁓ for him, I think outperforming Kimi Antonelli across the second half of the season should be the goal. rather than worrying about the points, and I think he'll see this as a very good foundation. ⁓ to have the sort of second half of the season that will limit the damage to his own reputation of having a sophomore teammate run away with the title when the team has a superior cart. So at the same time, that was a pretty impressive Sunday drive from Kimmy. ⁓ not impressive by the same measure as Monza, for example, but impressive that he just didn't spiral, like he didn't bow to the pressure of of that qualifying mistake. He came home with a clean car in the race and a whole bunch of points. ⁓ and I know we harp on about it a lot, but Baku is where Oscar Piastri's title fight really did hit the skids last year. And you could see in Antonelli's approach to the race that he took lessons from that. You know, and he executed a perfectly fine race. And it doesn't feel like right now we're in a Piastri situation for the runaway points leader where it where you think, ⁓ man, like you know, there needs to be a big bounce back or whatever in Sipang because The bounce back was on Saturday night in Barker. Like he did a good job. He kept it clean. He got to the end. ⁓ and ⁓ and he scored well. And I think that was fairly impressive from him. the the McLaren guys, that was a tough, tough weekend for Lando. Like ⁓ it was a positive weekend in a whole lot of ways for Oscar Piastri. He did seem like the better of the McLaren drivers, probably for the first time since much earlier this season. I can't remember the race where he where he kind of where was it's it a track that Lando has gone particularly well on, though, to be fair. No, and it is actually a track for for all of the obviously we we have this memory of twenty twenty five Baku burnt into our brains of of Oscar yeah, pretty much been in the world championship there. But he did win there in twenty twenty four. Mm-hmm. So he does go reasonably well there. Yeah. So, ⁓ and he he did a good job, but then just I just found it so disappointing that he made that mistake late in the race and ended up out of the points because ⁓ even if the p even if the podium was slightly out of reach, even if it was going to be a case that Hajar was going to get passed and and knock him off the podium, a fourth place in a race on a weekend where he'd outclassed Lando, if he'd been able to execute a a clean fourth place, that would have Done wonders for his confidence as well. But instead he made a mistake and and cost himself any points and cost himself the opportunity to kind of have that bit of a reset that he really probably needed, to be honest, having been outclassed by Lando for most of this season. So ⁓ I think he'd be pretty disappointed with ⁓ with how that played out as well. He kind of in the media pushed back a little bit, saying that he's not actually sure why the brakes locked and they were a bit You know, he didn't break any later than he thought he he he should have or could have, but it just locked and sent him off. But when you look at where he was on the track, on that very dirty side. Yeah. ⁓ and look, I'm not telling Oscar Piastri how to suck eggs, but it just seemed like th that was where it was gonna happen if it was gonna happen and it and it did, so Yeah, drivers rarely make mistakes, remember. It's a very rare thing. Sometimes you just have to put your hand up in the case of Franco Colapinto, for example, but ⁓ If you can avoid it you will. And I felt like Oscar saying, I don't really think I did anything different to any other lap. Well ultimately you're the one in charge of ⁓ of how the brake pedal works and and you probably just braked a bit late into a corner on the ro on the dirty side of the road, you know? So ⁓ and it was ⁓ and it yeah, it cost him a result that I think he really, really needed, which is disappointing. ⁓ and then he was running around the rest of the race on fifty cent pieces. Just going back to Kimmy's push through the through the field. At one stage I think we were in the Discord and it was maybe a dozen laps in and he only gained two places and it's like, ⁓ I thought he'd be sort of you know charging through. Yeah. But it was just a slow, considered race I think, and where maybe more than anything, damage limitation was high on the on on the order of priorities. I I genuinely think there was a conversation before the race between who exactly at it whether it was Bono and him or Or, you know, his management or his or his dad, who's who's a very prominent part of Kimmy's kind of entourage or whatever. But there must have been a conversation along the lines of think about what happened last year. Mm. Think about how you can try too hard to fix a mistake and you can compound that mistake massively. And you can really put yourself on the back foot. And I feel like the execution of Kimmy's race was very purposeful and very planned. It was a case of let's just get through the race. If you get to the end of the race with a car this fast, you'll be back in the points. Yep. ⁓ what you don't want to do is be hanging out of the wall and watching it on some Marshall's phone. Because that's like that's not gonna go well for you. So and I I really feel like that was the plan. Geez, you'll be in some memes, so that'll be good. Yeah, it's true. And I feel like that was the plan, and I feel like the plan was very well executed. And that's where I feel Kimmy can head to Sabine now and go, right, we're we're we're all good. That wasn't ideal. The the mistake in qualifying wasn't ideal, but we're we're okay. Yeah. All right, let's go the shift cut 'cause there's news are plenty. All right, let's start in Adelaide because the twenty twenty seven dates have been set. Well one of ⁓ has been officially. Moto GP on the new Street Circuit will be on November twelfth to fourteen, which would most likely make supercars ⁓ November twenty five to twenty eight proposition. But in amongst all that, an urgent bid to stop work on Adelaide's new Moto GP circuit has landed in the Federal Court, with a mystery applicant launching federal court action seeking an urgent injunction against work on the ninety six million dollar project. Documents lodged with the Federal Court's Queensland Registry on eighteenth of September named Joshua Hogan as the applicant in proceedings against the state of South A South Australia. Seeking an urgent interim injunction relating to work on the new Adelaide Street Circuit. South Australian Attorney General Kaya Ma confirmed the government had been notified of the action and would fight it in court. At present, there's an application for an injunction, meaning there is no federal court order stopping construction of the circuit, so that's still going on. The precise grounds for Hogan's actions and the full order being sought have also not been made public, as well as who he is, ABL. Is it you? ⁓ no, it's definitely not me. I'm a big fan of all this stuff, as you know. I don't I don't know too much about this to be perfectly honest, but in these cases, whether it's Adelaide or Burzwood or whatever, I just always suggest giving the save Albert Park crew a buzz. Let's see how that's going for it. They still say they're still in the fight, so just give them a clear say how's it how's it how's your how's your thing going? Yeah. How's it going? They're playing the long game, they said. They're playing the long game. Because I just never really feel like you're going to stop progress ⁓ to the point that you might think you're going to. Look, and again, like like yeah, we don't really know what this whole thing is about, but you would assume it is on some sort of environmental grounds. And ⁓ Yeah, that Grantbury's been at Albert Park for a while now. You've had a you've had a couple of weeks to get through this. Have you found out what's the difference between a tree and a significant tree? No, I have not. Right. I have absolutely no idea. Right, okay. They all help us breathe, that's all I know. We need some of ⁓ We definitely don't want to get t rid of too many of ⁓ I'm a big tree fan. I think Malinaskis has said he's going ten for one for everyone that's has to be taken out for the tracks. Yeah, they're gonna plant yeah. Yep. ⁓ anyway, yeah, like you say, save Albert Park. The Alpine Former One chief, Flavio Briatori, was distinctly unimpressed with Franco Colapinto for taking out his teammate Pierre Gasly saying he has been left extremely disappointed with his team's double DNF in F1's Azerbaijan Grand Prix, criticising Kolopinto for a very poor move. He said, I feel sorry for the team and for Pierre who did a great job all weekend, and my apologies also go to Landau and McLaren for ruining their race. I know that Franco has taken full responsibility for it, as he should. In fact, he braked far too late considering the context of the race and the safety car restart. It was a poor move for a driver of his experience. On the lap thirty-six restart, for those who haven't seen it, Colopinto locked his front tires on the dusty Oscar Piastri line at Baku and slid into the side of his teammate Pierre Gasly, taking both drivers out of the race. ⁓ and then he also collected Lando Norris, who then after it said that he feels like ⁓ Colopinto should be sat out for for a race because of the indiscretion, ⁓ which has divided Pitt Lane. And I've got to say. I don't think Lando's a million miles away from being right here and you'll you'll probably push back on this, but if that crash happens in Formula Three, you kinda get it, Av L. But that was a massive piece of amateurism at the apparent peak of this sport. I think that's fair. I think Lando did take it a little bit too far, but and he literally said like ⁓ it it was the actions of a driver that shouldn't be in Formula One. We're not good enough to be a Formula One driver. So Good luck heading to Buenos Aires ⁓ Buenos Aires anytime soon, but ⁓ the Argentine Grand Prix could be fun for Lando. But ⁓ it was a massive mistake for from Franco with the worst possible outcome in terms of your own team relations. ⁓ it sounds like the bollocking in the Alpine Motorhome was pretty brutal. In terms of the punishment, like the the one thing that is very clear is that a five place grid penalty for Sapang and no penalty points on his license is ridiculous. It's a good call. Really good call. It should be it should be whatever a third of the way to a race ban is in terms of penalty points, which it would have been last year. They revised the system at the at the end of last year. Yep. That would in this case it should be about a third, right? So here's your type all right, you've lost a third of your demerit points, so to speak. Do it again. All right, well, this is becoming a pattern. Next time you're you're benched. That that would make perfect sense to me. At the same time, I think a call for an immediate ban is pretty harsh. Like let's not forget that Kimmy Antonelli, the man that's surging towards the title right now, did the same thing in Austria last year. Yeah. Like exactly the same thing. ⁓ really fair point. And you and you would never turn around right now and say Kimmy Antonelli doesn't deserve to be an F one. George Russell. Lando said about Franco. So you well, yeah, I think so. And also, let's not forget that Lando had a massive lock up into turn one during the Baku race. And so did Oscar Piastri. The only difference being there was nobody to run into. So it's it's fundamentally the same mistake. Misjudging the braking market. The caveat is that when you're in the pack, you need to be more mindful of it, obviously, because there are cars directly in front of you. Doing it with no cars in front of you is it is different. I I do take that, but ultimately it is actually the same mistake. ⁓ so there's a little bit of richness in Lando's comments when he also barreled into that corner way too fast at a point during that race and ended up down the down the escape road. But ⁓ yeah, at the same time, there's no doubt that a five grid place penalty and no points on the licence is just crazy light. Like that's really getting away with murder there f for sure. Yeah, I wonder how they justify that. Like has there been anyone ask or like how does ⁓ it's all a bit built around this new rules with the penalty points where it has to be dangerous and this and that and you can argue. Y you could argue. Yeah, like mass like misjudging it to that point to that extent on a restart with cars in front of you should be seen as dangerous. Like the there's certainly no argument that there's no rational argument that he shouldn't have got penalty points for it. But no way. Yeah. ⁓ in other news, Christian Horner has declared Ferrari the one Formula One team that would convince him to abandon his desire for an ownership stake of any team and return to the sport. Horner has continued to be linked with several potential routes back to the paddock, but has now singled out the Scaderia as the opportunity that holds the greatest appeal. He says, at this stage of my life, there's only one team in which I would accept a non-participation in ownership. Would I consider Ferrari? I Ferrari's the biggest brand in Formula One, it's the dream, and arguably it's the sleeping giant of Formula One. It represents Horner's strongest declaration of interest in the Italian team after his name was repeatedly surfaced in speculation surrounding Fred Vasur and his future. Who signed a multi year contract extension in twenty five, understood to keep him in the team f till the at least the end of twenty twenty seven. First of all, is there a hope that this could happen, do you reckon? ⁓ you never quite know what Ferrari's gonna do. There must be some people at Ferrari very confused, going, We've offered this bloke so many jobs and he's never taken and suddenly look like he's out there saying that all he wants to do is work for us. ⁓ Well, you know what it's like. I mean y you Yeah. You're sitting at home six months with the missus. Eventually you're stinging to go out. Yeah. ⁓ it's ⁓ I tell you what, Fred Vasur did sound fed up by it all were by Sunday by Sunday evening. Understandably too. Yeah, totally. ⁓ well Satur sorry, Saturday evening in back here. It's still getting the days mixed up because of the weird ⁓ timetable of the weekend. But yeah, look, I I don't know. ⁓ it's it's We know that Ferrari have approached Horn in the past and he's never been interested. Now he clearly is. As you say, he's at home, he's bored, he wants something to do. He's promoting a new book, so it's a good time to be in the headlines. ⁓ and he can sort of put himself in the shop window as well. So it would be very interesting to see how Horner would go at Ferrari. Would he make that much of a difference? I don't it's just so hard to tell. Yeah. It's so hard to tell. It's like it's I d I honestly don't know. I feel like a lot of the issues around Ferrari from the last, well, let's say three team bosses, pretty much you don't know if you blame the team boss for getting a pitch strategy wrong or do you know what I mean? Like I I'm not sure that anyone sitting in that chair can fix the that problem unless they replace the people that are underneath them as well, maybe. Yeah, it's about building a culture that is a winning culture, right? Like we saw we we saw Jean Todd come into that team and turn into a winning team. But whether Christian Horner is the right person to do that, I mean he has built a winning team before, I'll give him that, but ⁓ he was also part of a massive implosion of a team of the same team. So it's very difficult to say, yes, this guy's the guy that could come in and turn Ferrari back into the powerhouse that it really should be. Yeah, you just it's it's it's just too difficult to tell. It would be very interesting. T is not keen on the idea as ⁓ Lewis. He was he was pretty adamant he thinks Fred might do a better job. So Yeah, well Fred and Lewis are quite close from ⁓ from the old Prima days and that sort of stuff. Was it Prima? Yeah. Yeah Prima. So ⁓ so yeah, anyway. I I think it's probably at it's pie in the sky at the moment, but with Ferrari you just never you never quite know. Mm. Good call. ⁓ meanwhile Esteban Ocon has let everyone know he's a free agent in twenty twenty seven. And the world collectively remained silent in their response, where it seems his reputation for being a bit of a turd is hindering him getting a job driving anything outside of an Uber. And speaking of turds, Jack Villeneuve believes Esteban Ocon's Grand Prix career will end when his time with Haas concludes, arguing the Frenchman's running out of options on the grid. He said the problem is he came in as a Mercedes prospect through their family. Mercedes didn't keep him. They put him in Alpine and Renault. Now he's gone down the ladder to Haas. He said yes he has a lot of experience at but How good were his last two seasons? He wasn't shining in the last two seasons. The teams won't really be looking at him anything everything else that is coming through at the moment, so it's time to look past him. You know what? Not often I say this, I think villainous, right? Yeah, yeah, I had my say on this in the in the news pod on Friday. I do I do agree that he'll struggle to get back in unless, you know, like a Cadillac wanted to go for a bike what might be a small upgrade on a Perez or bodice, but I think they're committed for next year anyway. So Yeah, I mean this is the guy that beat Max Verstappen in European F three in twenty fourteen. ⁓ so it does really feel like a an F one career that is under delivered. At the same time he's made a ton of money and won a Grand Prix, so his life could be a heck of a lot worse, I suppose as well. You go those you'll get a job in sports cars, no dramas. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. So yeah. ⁓ we look at NASCAR and Shane Van Gisbergen qualified seventeenth for the Superintelligence four hundred at Kansas Speedway and finished a lap down in twenty-fourth after battling a myriad of ⁓ handling issues and radio dramas. With seven laps to go, Kyle Larson took the lead and he cruised to the checkered flag, AVL. But in ⁓ the fights over there, Corey Haim has s jumped was jumped by crew members and punched following a prominent late model race at Martinsville. On the weekend, it followed a number of commies together on track with Trayton Lepvitch. A confrontation broke out near the famous hot dog shack on no inside the Martinsville infield. Haim ⁓ appeared to be backing away as members of Lepvitch's Chad Bryant racing team approached him, including team owner Chad Bryan himself, who immediately started swinging. Haim was ⁓ wearing his 23X1 ⁓ racing fire suit and is set to drive for the team co-owned by Michael Jordan and Danny Hamlin on a full-time basis in 2027. Haim continued to tr try and de-escalate as one individual grabbed him as at his as his back was against the hot dog stand beneath a menu sign reading a half mile of mayhem. Haim was hit or punched multiple times while c covering his head, and a police officer quickly escorted him away from the scene. Looking at it from a different angle, I've seen about four angles of this. The bloke who throws the first haymaker, and that's what it was, it was a pretty much a dog shot, but he hits the sign. He doesn't hit the bloke in the head. I'm telling you, he his hands are sore. Half my other mayhem. Yeah. It's ⁓ I don't know if that's the hot dog or the track, but Yeah, I don't know. I don't even I don't I can't I can barely follow along. There's a lot going on. All right, we'll go to a break and we'll come back for some top threes, ⁓ one of our more popular segments from earlier this year. Back in a minute. I'll see you there, former. Yeah, welcome back. Now let's do some top threes, AVL. I'm gonna give you a a category. You're just we're gonna list them one for one. So your number one, my number one, your number two, your number my number two. Are we gonna switch? We're gonna switch between like I go first, one go, you go first the next. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, cool. ⁓ but we're not allowed to repeat each other, so you've got to have a few spares up your sleeve just in case. All right, let's start with worst liveries in motorsport in the past thirty years, AVL. Do you want to go first? Yeah, I'll go first. I'm gonna nominate the Honda F one Earth Car from two thousand. That was just a terrible livery. Geez, I'd like to say it stood out on screen, but it just didn't. It was horrible. It was so bad. Yeah. It was so bad. So that's a clear number one for me. I know this is recency bias, but I'm going to chuck in Cameron Hill's super from Tasmania. I had it as well. That Rest Point Country Club Casino. That was my number three. No good. That's my number three. It's just it's hard to go past. Yeah. It's hard to go past. All right, my number two. I'm going to go with the Sun Energy One Mercedes from the 12 year. But it has to be intentionally that bad, right? It has to be. It can't be like no one thinks it looks actually good with those flames. I don't know. I I'm in I you know what? Flaxhes and chrome. It doesn't look good. Kind of suits Kenny, but doesn't it really? ⁓ I look, when I s I I actually thought about putting it in my list, but then I took it out 'cause I thought, you what, it's one a couple of twelve hours and I know that shouldn't have anything to do with it. But it doesn't matter. It It's okay. It's okay. It and when I see it come towards me, I know which car it is. So that's a bonus in itself. Not like that ⁓ Honda Formula One car you're talking about. So my number two is the SBR split livery, the Caltex and Pertex split livery. ⁓ yeah. That was a mess. Yeah. That was a case of throwing a car in a wind tunnel and just throwing stickers in the air and see where they landed. Yeah, it's good it's a good point. That's a good point. All my number three, lucky I did ⁓ have a spare here, is the do you remember the twenty twenty twelve Sauber that was like grey and white and had like a Chelsea FC logo on it? Yeah, what was the summer for some reason? And it was just it was just a terrible looking race car. So it was and like that that era of F1 were horrible looking cars anyway. Yep. ⁓ but that was really something designed straight out of MS paint. Do you know what I think? No sense. So that's my number three. Crazily, my number three is also a sauba. But it was only from the last couple of years. That sauber kick car. That bright green and black dipped in paint sort of look was just did nothing for me. So ⁓ yeah, that was my I was tempted to put the BRT cars from this year on the list just because I'm so angry that I don't have white wheels. Like it makes me so angry. Even though they're great looking cars, except for one thing. Like it's just that makes it more outrageous. Do you remember the nineteen ninety nine BAR half Lucky Strike half? ⁓ yeah, but I love that. That looked awesome. I loved it. No, I took that out because I'm like, nah. When I looked at pictures of it today, I was like, actually, that's all right. No, no, no. I never even I never even considered that. That's a beauty. I wish they'd been able to run a full a full triple five car would have looked amazing. Yeah, I agree. That would have looked so cool. It's a shame that the rules stopped them doing that. Imagine the promo opportunities with the Subaru as well. Let's talk about top three tracks no longer on the Supercar's calendar. Controversial, Canberra. Wow. That is not where I expected you to go at all. Mainly because of the event, and every time I went there, I had an absolute blast. Bought lops of fireworks and other stuff at the same suburb from the fireworks suburb. But ⁓ we just had a ball there, Canberra, every year. Good a few good nights at Mooseheads. ⁓ Moosey's good. Yep. Good joint. So yeah. Good so maybe it was more the off track stuff, but I actually enjoyed Canberra. Scraping the ice off the seat with your credit card wasn't so much fun every morning, but you know, you got used to it. What do you got? I've got to meet it's Puka Kawi. ⁓ okay, yeah, good call. Amazing circuit. Amazing event. ⁓ very sad that it's not still part of the calendar. Even sadder that, you know, Stefan and I called by there on on our way to Taupo this year, and it's still just all intact. It's just a racetrack sitting there. With like there's not it's just sitting there. And it's just so sad to see such a great track. ⁓ and knowing just what an incredible event that was, just yeah, that's that is absolutely the biggest loss to supercars is Puka Koi. Mine number two, Homebush. Something could have been done to save that and make it into a good track. Ooh. Wasn't far from being a good track. It just had a couple of bits that needed some work. So I'd love to see Homebush again. Although Yeah, that's a well we've gone very different directions here. It was hot as a an orgy on the sun ⁓ most times I was there as well. ⁓ all right, well mine number two is Orin Park. Yeah, I had Oran Park. Yeah, just a classic circuit. I only went there did I go there twice? twice, once or twice. It was quite quite no, it wouldn't well maybe maybe even three times, but it was ⁓ I've always said this, it was like a life size scale electrics track. Like it just looked like a racetrack. Yeah. And it was a it was a cool place and I and I really enjoyed watching racing there. And I know it meant a lot to to the people of Western Sydney as well. So ⁓ to me that's a ⁓ that's a pretty obvious number two. Tony Perish said he was gonna r rebuild it. Is there any word on how that's travelling? I don't think it's going great. Right, okay. 'Cause he named as the top one. The Save Albert Parker campaign. Maybe that's what he's worried about. ⁓ my number three, and I don't know whether you would have thought of this one, Circuit of Americas. I did think about it, but I didn't go to that event. It was when I was living in Europe. ⁓ so I don't have a great read on whether it was a really good supercars track or not, because I wasn't paying that much attention to supercars at the time. I just think it'd be healthy for supercars to be in America. Yeah, that's it's a good point. It's a good point, but I did I did actually when I was sort of having to think about it, I thought, man, that was cool. I just don't know much about it and whether the racing was any good. But my number three is the Newcastle Street Circuit, because that was a good track. Yeah. That was a good track. And that's a it's it's a real shame that we don't ⁓ that we don't have that as a season opener or a season closer ⁓ anymore, 'cause it could have done either of them. Well it did do both of those things very well. I actually threw in Hamilton as a sneaky in case I needed one as well. Yeah, that was my first New Zealand trip was a Hamilton trip. What was the track like? I can't remember like really I I can't remember in great detail. I remember obviously that giz win was was there was a mega. That was an amazing sort of just day at a race track. But I mean once I ⁓ once I went back to New Zealand for a Puka Koe round, it was just so far ahead of anything else that we've done. You know, even even as spectacular as Christchurch was this year, ⁓ there was just no there's no comparison. They're there yeah, it was just Poogie was amazing for just a whole bunch of reasons. All right, next category. Your top three best F one T V commentators or pundits if you were putting together a team to present a race weekend. So it doesn't have to be a commentator, but someone who's on the present presentation team. ⁓ I've got to have Martin Brundle. I still love a race that Brundle's doing. I still think he does a good job. His grid walk is unmissable T V, not always for the right reasons, but it's still unmissable T V. So I'll s put Martin at its number one. I'm gonna start with someone who I think is special comments but I think just does an exemplary job and that's Bernie Collins. I knew you were gonna start with that. Mate, she I think she's brilliant. I honestly do. I think she adds so much to that show and ⁓ to that presentation and I wish she was on every week. So yeah, Bernie Collins for me. Who's your number two? ⁓ my number two is Karoon. I like Karoon. I think he does a good job. ⁓ yep. Yeah, definitely. He's actually like a lovely bloke as well. Might be a little biased 'cause he gave me a heap of help with the first edition of the Piastri book that I did. But ⁓ I think he does a good job on the TV. So I've got Karoon as my number two. I've actually got Alex Jakes as number two. I I think he he does a really good job on the F one T V feed and probably doesn't get enough ⁓ well I I reckon he'll be the next one to step up into the The other side, if if you want to say it in that those terms. So Alex Jakes for me. Number th number three for you. ⁓ I'll go with Nico Rosberg. I did have Bernie's number three, but you've ⁓ you've pushed me into spares territory, so I'll go with Nico Rosberg. ⁓ I reckon he I like his I I kind of like the fact he he will he will bring a tear up to the table. It's usually reasonably fair. He doesn't sort of just just ramble on like Shark does, for example. So I ⁓ I like the fact he has an opinion and ⁓ and I'll put Nico in there as number three. I've chucked David Coulthart in for basically the very same reasons. I think he's fair, but also he's willing to put it out there and say when he sees something's a bit rubbish, he doesn't sort of hold back. So similar thing things I think he's he's very, very good. So David Coultart for me. Who were in your spares? Did you have any left fielders? Nah. I had Nicol as a spare because I knew you were going to say Bernie, because I know you've got a bit of a Bernie crush. ⁓ I love Bernie's. You know who I had, and you'll be shocked at this. I had Will Buxton as a spare. ⁓ yeah. I hope actually miss him in the Formula One thing at the moment, but ⁓ anyway. What about this? This will be interesting. Your top three non Mustang hopes for a Bathus one thousand win this year. I'll take Woody and Jackson. Well, I'll go Chaz and Fabs then. I think we were both gonna be pretty interchangeable. Pretty interchangeable on that. Just just just based on and and and not obviously we don't know what's happening gonna happen with any parody or parody adjustments between now and Bathis, but just on. ⁓ pure ⁓ driving quality across that that foresome of walk and shore drivers is just ⁓ pretty spectacular. My number two, since you've taken the other super that I was looking at, is juice and the love muscle. I think ⁓ they're a sneaky hope. So I'll take Jaden and Dave Russell. Good call. What are we doing? Good cool. I'll I well I'll charka Anton and Holzi in there then. Yeah, I thought you would. ⁓ but I had I did have I did have Juice and and and Dave Russell on my on my list here as well because that's ⁓ that's a pretty handy combo. My number three, Jack LeBrock and my man Harry Jones. Ooh. Yeah, not bad. Not bad. I I mean Whether it's a winning combo or not, I'm not a hundred percent sure, but I could see them having a very solid race, particularly after after Harry did s did a really good job at at the bend. ⁓ I'll go for my number three. I'll chuck Reynolds and James Courtney in there. Like it's Bath. Yeah. And it's David Reynolds and James Courtney. So and we know Reynolds just does you know, if there's two tracks he's gonna go well on all year, it's Baths and Adelaide. So I reckon that's a pretty handy number three right there. Talking to Reynolds during the week and I can't say sworn to secrecy, but there might be something on their car that will turn heads. Let's just say that. I don't know whether you've heard this, but Yeah. ⁓ I'm not gonna say obviously, but it's fantastic. All right. Top three drivers looking to get into supercars who aren't there right now. ⁓ I'll chuck little ⁓ little Hughesy. Jared Hughes in there. Yeah, I had him. He ⁓ he did a very good job at ⁓ at the bend. And I reckon he's a very good chance of ⁓ there's not gonna be many seats up for grabs, I don't think, in the main game next year, but if if there are Any, I reckon he's a good shot at getting older one. My first one is Jackson Evans. I still think unfinished business. Yeah, good shout. Yep. Definitely. I think he has lots of ability and we've seen it in other categories and just the four car, then three car sort of BJR world, some drivers can get lost down there. Yeah. No, he's spectacularly talented. So definitely I'll go with Lockie Dalton for number two. I think he's done enough in the second tier now to to deserve a shot ⁓ in some way, shape or form. So that's ⁓ that's my number two. I'll go my man Nathan Hearn for number two. I you would. I knew you would. Stole one from you, didn't I? ⁓ who's your number three? ⁓ I'm gonna chuck Oli Wickham in here. I reckon ⁓ I'm interested to see what he does next year. I think ⁓ he's obviously got the backing of Triple Eight. He's been doing a good job in Formula Ford and in Mustang Cup. And I reckon Triple Eight are pretty keen on him. So ⁓ interesting to see what they do next year and at what point they decide to give him a shot at the induce in one of those ⁓ two cars. I have gone a little bit left field for this one, ⁓ but close to home as well. I want to see Oscar Target get a go. ⁓ yeah. Lovely Blake Luloski. Yeah. ⁓ obviously he probably needs to step up into Super Two first, but I would like to see that happen. So he is my number three. Okay. Top three US based drivers who would make good Adelaide supercar wildcards. S V G. Yeah, I figured you'd go there. I actually had his number one, I actually had Kyle Larson just because I'd love to see it. I would just love to see it because we kinda know what you know what What your SVGs and your Scotty Macs can do in a supercar. And I'd love to see how Kyle Larson would go. So did you say Scotty Max? He's number two for me. I'm sure he is. This is a tough one. It's a tough one to be playing rear gunner on. ⁓ I'm gonna have to go straight to the spares by now. ⁓ let's go with I'd love to see Will Power come and have another crack at supercars. Because he's just an ace bloke as well. He was in my spares. ⁓ but I'd like to see number three. Alex Polloo. ⁓ Absolutely untouchable in Indy. ⁓ I'd love to see him come over and just see what whether it sort of translates into supercars. Probably wouldn't initially, but he certainly can drive. There's no doubt about that. ⁓ I'm a little I'm a little stuck on my number three. My two options are Connor Zilich or Scott Dixon. And I think that's both be a lot of fun. So maybe I'll go with Zillich just ⁓ because yeah, he's sort of got that he's got that that ⁓ That road course now. So like he's a good road course driver. He's got a bit of swagger about him. He'd be fun to come over and see. But Scottie Dixon would be good too. Everything I see about one of my spares would make me think he'd be a world of fun if he came over to David Malucas. He seems like he seems like he's ⁓ got a pretty good sense of humor and I reckon he might go all right over here. And the other one I had in my spares was Stingray Rob, just for the name. Just be fantastic to have the Stingray here. Finally, this is gonna be interesting. Top three Bathus one thousand controversial takes present, past, future, whatever you want. Alright, well I'll start with ⁓ the shootout is better than the race. ⁓ wow really? ⁓ I love the shootout. I get it. Favourite hour of sport for the for the entire year. Met some Barnburner racer butts in the last races in the last sort of five or six years. I just love that shootout. What about this? Car swapping mid race should never have been possible, meaning Brock's record wouldn't be anywhere near as impressive. Am I right? Yeah, probably. I mean, it seems absolutely insane now that you could do that. Yeah. It's absolutely crazy. My number two is that Jamie Winkup is criminally underrated at Bathurst. Well, I've got another criminally underrated person, but I get it. He's a three time Bathist winner. A four three time, four time, full time Bathist winner. Four. Four years. It's pretty good. Yeah, it is. It's pretty good for a bloke who everyone says is no good at Bathurst. Ain't bad. My guy. isn't given anywhere near the praise he deserves because he's won it five times in Steven Richards. ⁓ yeah. ⁓ but I don't feel like Richard is underrated. I don't feel like there's I don't feel like there's a spotlight on him as being no good at Bathurst like there is with Jamie. Like Steven Richards is clearly an excellent Bathurst drive. Okay. I think that's where that that's the only sort of difference I would I would say is that obviously because of the high profile values that Jamie had there, he's seen as being no good there. Yep. But I just don't think that's ⁓ that's true. All right, my number three, and this is I'm really gonna I could potentially upset a lot of people. ⁓ Darry, I've got one that's gonna do the same. So I think that I I like primaries should be paired together and splitting the primaries has ⁓ Saying this, potentially cheapen the term Bathis and winner. Whoa. That's right. It's I don't think that's without foundation. Only because I think maybe not so much the top echelon of teams, but the lower tiers, if they could put their two drivers together, they'd have pretty strong combinations. But finding and I hate to say it, a high level second driver when you're not a top tier team. becomes a tough gig. Well the the the the actual philosophy hasn't really changed. You know teams used to just sell off their second car. Yeah. And now they have to sell off a drive in their one of their primary cars. Yeah. ⁓ so yeah anyway, that's it. It's a and that sounds way what I said sounds much harsher than it really is, but it's not it's not quite the the same, I think. And I'd I I still would like to see primaries paired together. ⁓ this next one's gonna be contentious. Without Fabian Coulthardt following orders, Scottie Mack wouldn't have won Bathurst. There's a lot of people that agree with that. Did you have a spare? I did have a spare. Or was yours? Well that there's just the right amount of cars in the race. We don't need those massive again. Again, cars that we usually just there to absolutely make up the numbers. I don't think we need any more than what what that sort of twenty twenty four to twenty eight cars that we have that are good quality cars with a lot of professional drivers spread amongst them and all that sort of stuff. My spare was David Reynolds should have lost years of sleep for not having a white hot crack at getting around Wind Cup and having a Bathus win in twenty twelve. Yeah, I reckon he probably dwells on twenty eight eight a little bit more than May, I get that too. Alright, let's go to a break and we'll come back with rear of grid. Credit to the noise. Winter could spell bad news for your vehicle's battery. Here are three maintenance tips from the battery gurus at RNJ Batteries. One, avoid frequent short trips to keep your battery at a healthy state of charge. Two, keep the battery terminals clean and corrosion free. Three, avoid running your accessories with the engine off for too long. If your battery is three years or older, it might be time to get it tested for free at your local RJ batteries. RJ Batteries Power like nothing else. Now listen. W we don't have any spare tickets. Thank you for everyone that keeps messaging me. I'm literally getting ⁓ messages by the day. Have you got a spare ticket? You got a spare ticket to the live show? I don't have them. No, we don't. Aveil, do you have one? No. No, we got none. We got none. I'd love to be sitting here s like sprooking that we that we're selling tickets to the show, but it's sold out. It's done. Sorry, but I guess next year we'll I don't know. Maybe we'll find a bigger venue. The lesson is, well, maybe we won't, because the lesson really is to sign up for the Discord. Well sorry, sign up for a full credit membership. Get access to the Discord. The Discord was on fire on Saturday night. That earlier GP time on the East Coast, that really brought the ⁓ Brought the conversation to life. Probably the fact that the grand final had been on and some people might have had a few beverages before that jumped in there, not mentioning any names or pointing at myself. But ⁓ it's certainly ⁓ it was that was good fun. That was a good fun. ⁓ I'm glad I wasn't on website live duties because I could really focus on my Discord live live updates, ⁓ which was whole bunch of things. I've to have read your breakdown of the Colapinto thing. thirty five beers deep. Yeah. All right. It'll play some credit or shredded. So if you do want to join that membership too, by the way, FCTTN dot com ⁓ follow the links to the membership and then like you said, it'll give you access to the Discord where we did break the live show news first and that's as far as we had to release it essentially. I think I think one of the things I really enjoyed just coming back to the Baku Grand Prix chat was one of our newer members actually saying towards the end of the race, like This has been worth the price of admission already. Like this is so much fun. Sitting here watching everyone Everyone's like, is this mute? Haven't heard from you. Everyone just enjoy Join in, mate. Enjoying the ⁓ in just enjoying the banter around the race. And that's exactly what you want. That's the that's the perfect feedback, right? Someone just going, ⁓ this is actually so much fun. All right, let's do some credit or shredded. So I'm gonna make a statement and you just decide whether you agree or disagree with the credit or shredded, we'll come back after we've done all six number one. If Max Verstappen drives at the Bathus twelve hour, organizers will need to open extra campgrounds. ⁓ credit. Credit. Number two. Supercars have not done a good job promoting the upcoming Bathus one thousand. Shredit. I'll say sh shred it, although it was the topic of conversation on social media during the week. Number three, the last Aussie that drove with McLaren and didn't click with the car was punted by the team. Oscar is heading into similar areas. Shred it. Yes, shred it for now. Number four, the fight for the F one championship is now back on. Shred it. Shred it. Number five, Franco Colapinto should be made to sit out a race for his tomfoolery at Baku. Shred it. Yes, shredded. God, this is no good. Number six, race meetings that finish on a Saturday are severely underrated. Ooh, credit. Credit. I've never seen something more positive than that. How good was it? I woke up on Sunday morning and went, wait up. Awesome. Yeah. I'd have to go to work. All right, Max. if he comes to the Bathus twelve hour organizers need to open extra campgrounds. We actually put this in the Discord during the week and said, could it possibly outsell the Bathurne for tickets if, say, Max and another driver came of similar ilk. As you pointed out, well we don't even have the same amount of campgrounds open, so Yeah. Well I don't know if I pointed that out. I I don't know much about the camp. Someone pointed that out. But you would need to pretty much quadruple the record Bathis twelve hour crowd to get near the supercars crowd. So I think that's that's that's pretty ambitious. You're talking about you need an extra hundred and fifty thousand people to show up ⁓ over four days or three days or whatever. So I think that's that's unrealistic. But you would like to think that if you did get Max involved it would bring enough additional people through to make it worthwhile opening up more of the campgrounds. It was topic of conversation during the week around have supercars done a good job promoting the upcoming Bathus one thousand. I said they have Only because they've only had to do what they've had to do. They're not gonna be short of selling tickets. And people are gonna watch it. I haven't seen any real evidence that it's been poorly promoted. Like you know, like Chas Mostett was on the desk before the grand final on Saturday and that sort of stuff. Like I think there's enough efforts being made to to promote it. I haven't I haven't seen any evidence that it's been poorly promoted. And and the ramp up does sort of start off the back of the footy grand finals. Yeah, totally. You're just yelling into ⁓ you're yelling into a a a a cave that's got too many echoes going on already, you know, among footy among the footy grand finals. So I don't see any reason with ramping things up in the next sort of week. I actually think it's positioned perfectly because there is that sort of with a lot of f hard head football fans, there is that ⁓ there's nothing to do now. Yeah, massively. Yeah. And so to have something on that very next Sunday is actually Either good luck or brilliance in marketing, but I think it it works quite well. Is Oscar heading into Daniel territory? No, I I think I think fundamentally Oscar's ceiling is higher and I think the team has a lot of faith in him. I think there was enough shown over the Barclay weekend, even if he did ruin it with that mistake late in the race, that he is still a very capable Grand Prix driver. So he needs to do better. He needs to get his head around these cars and needs to perform more regularly in them. There's a bit of a danger that you know this was the stretch of the calendar where he really struggled, like on the particularly on the lower grip colder circuits. Shouldn't be an issue in ⁓ Sipang, but ⁓ and Singapore. But beyond that, that he did have that really big struggle last season. I think that Andreas Stella is very, very kind of wedded to those drivers. He loves that driver lineup. So I don't think Oscar's in danger at the moment. The fight for the championship In F one is back on. It's not. No, let's I mean, it unless Antonelli has a massive shocker in Malaysia. I think it's far too early to make any declaration like that. I I actually think his damage limitation efforts in Baku were brilliant. Spectacular, as I've pointed out earlier in the pod. ⁓ Colapino should be made to sit out a race. I don't agree. Yeah, as we discussed. Yeah, we went over that. race mission is it finish on a Saturday AVL. ⁓ they're a thing of beauty. And that's where I think The first round of the year in Sydney for the supercars. It should be all done by Saturday night. I just have such fond memories of the Sunday in Taupo. Like cooking and eating a nice steak, nice bottle of red, was gathered out in the footy. It was that was good times. Thank you, Cyclone, whatever it was called. Yeah. ⁓ stiff wind, I think it was actually. Stiff breeze. Yeah. I've got a letter of the week. It comes from James Price. He says, I've got a Sunday Avo, what if If the supercars categories kept good salespeople on the board and managed to sell the rule set to Germany's DTM category so they had something they could race and bang doors and jump curves like they were y like they used to in the older days, surely it could have been possible for Pace to benefit from all the chassis being made in Australia or they left hand drive for the DTM and then the category and teams over there left to compete the rest complete the rest. Cheaper alternative than the GT3 machinery they went to, and all three cars currently also have left hand drive road versions, which might even entice the German brands to actually want to homologate engines and body panels to have factory entries in their homeland. And then as a reward for their top three teams and drivers, if they finish the season before Bathurst, automatic eligibility to Bathurst 1000 as wildcards. What do you reckon? I mean, fantastic idea. ⁓ I mean, ⁓ y you need to remember that Triple Eight's initial plan for Gen Three when that team was put in charge of the project by Supercars was to build a global car. And that's how we ended up going dangerously close to things like paddle shift and limited slip diffs and things like that. The idea was to build a platform that could be sold around the world. ⁓ and in the end the focus, rightly, ⁓ in my opinion, ended up on building the best possible car for our own series, and that's how we ended up with a more traditional V eight supercar style of car. The only really global parts, you know, on the car are the crate style engines and that single nozzle fuel filler, 'cause remember it used to be the sort of the two nozzle fuel filler. And that change was made as part of this push to build a global car. So it's it's a tricky one because yeah, you you'd kinda have to I I guess the crossroads that we ended up at was that you'd have to strip away some of what makes supercars fantastic to build a global car. And was it worth doing that? And the decision was made that it wasn't. So even even as it stands, but those cars would be great for the DTM. Better than GT three. Like it's like it's yeah, to me that's ⁓ like I I just have no and I used to love the DTM. I covered it I covered it in person in Germany. ⁓ and now it's just it's just the German GT championship. Yeah. It's not DTM. Used to be it used to be amazing. So It would be a better series for having supercars. There's absolutely no doubt about that. Is there any possibility it might happen one day? I th again your teens have gone and invested all this money in into all this GT3 hardware. Like it's it's a tough genie to get back in the bottle. Yeah, fair call. All right, that'll about do us for this episode of full credit of the noise. Don't forget you can find the show on all the socials at FC T T N Podcast where you can read ABL's excellent work at speedcafe.com. Where they do break all the big motorsport news first. Until next time, I've been Formal Legend. He's been AVL. This has been Full Credit the Noise, and we'll see you. Well, probably at Super Cheap Auto preparing for Bathurst. See ya there. ⁓
