- 0:57SPEAKER_02: Thank you very, very much.
- 0:59SPEAKER_02: That's very excitable.
- 1:01SPEAKER_02: I'm very excited to be here, yeah.
- 1:02SPEAKER_02: I really am.
- 1:03SPEAKER_02: We get to just talk about um, well, we're not gonna give the game away too quickly, but we're just we're talking about childhood.
- 1:09SPEAKER_02: We're talking about nostalgia.
- 1:10SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 1:10SPEAKER_02: It's all anyone ever wants to talk about, anyway, isn't it?
- 1:14SPEAKER_02: When I was thinking about my film that I want to chat to you about, yeah, I was thinking about the fact that the VHS was such a powerful tool.
- 1:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:23SPEAKER_02: Um, and whatever, basically whatever was on VHS in your home that you owned is therefore the best thing ever.
- 1:34SPEAKER_02: And you have like five of them, so you watch it.
- 1:36SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 1:36SPEAKER_02: For me, it was Dumb and Dumber.
- 1:38SPEAKER_02: I had Dumb and Dumber.
- 1:39SPEAKER_02: It was um uh Bean the Beano VHS.
- 1:42SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:43SPEAKER_02: Brilliant piece of content.
- 1:44SPEAKER_02: Uh-uh.
- 1:44SPEAKER_02: A lot of people have seen it.
- 1:45SPEAKER_02: I put three with Bino once.
- 1:47SPEAKER_02: Um it was um an East Enders special where Phil and Grant um Grant.
- 1:52SPEAKER_02: Phil and Grant, it was a long time ago.
- 1:54SPEAKER_02: It's a 90s VHS.
- 1:56SPEAKER_02: Um Phil and Grant are in um Phil and Grant are in the Vic and um they're a bit pissed and they put on Kung Fu fighting and they do a mildly offensive dance and strip off.
- 2:10SPEAKER_02: And then Peggy, their mum, comes down and goes, Oh boys! That's it.
- 2:14SPEAKER_02: What a great video.
- 2:15SPEAKER_03: What a great video.
- 2:16SPEAKER_02: What a great video.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: Um and then what else did I have?
- 2:19SPEAKER_02: I had uh The Lion King.
- 2:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:20SPEAKER_02: Um I had a cartoon uh called Dangerfield.
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: Um Dangerfield.
- 2:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, which was which was a film, a feature film of a dog going on these adventures.
- 2:32SPEAKER_02: It was only later that I realised it was voiced by Rodney Dayton.
- 2:35SPEAKER_03: I had to say, was it Rodney Dayton?
- 2:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it was.
- 2:36SPEAKER_02: It was this dog, but I didn't know about Rodney Dayton.
- 2:38SPEAKER_02: It was just this dog going, I get no respect, I get no respect, no respect at all.
- 2:42SPEAKER_02: And I just love the guy.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: And and and um the final one was Jumanji.
- 2:49SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 2:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:50SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 2:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, do you like the word?
- 2:51SPEAKER_02: I'll just do I do.
- 2:54SPEAKER_02: Maybe they know what's coming now.
- 2:56SPEAKER_03: It'd be weird if they didn't know if they just clicked onto the episode without reading it.
- 3:00SPEAKER_03: Oh, does it say the title?
- 3:01SPEAKER_02: Why am I trying to kept it so keep it so secret?
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: I've tried to really like breadcrumb this like a fucking brown handseling brettle.
- 3:08SPEAKER_03: Listen, I like I like I like the breadcrumbing of it.
- 3:11SPEAKER_02: I thought it was Dumb O'Leary keeping the results of the X Factor hidden just for myself.
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: You specifically said to me you were like, uh I'd I'd like to do Jumanji, but only if it's the original.
- 3:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:22SPEAKER_02: I'm not touching any of that new shit.
- 3:24SPEAKER_02: Um Do you know what?
- 3:26SPEAKER_02: I probably shouldn't say that.
- 3:27SPEAKER_02: Um I'm guilty of being like, if I've not seen it, I don't like it.
- 3:30SPEAKER_03: You know, sort of like you've not seen them then, the new ones.
- 3:33SPEAKER_03: Not the new ones, no.
- 3:34SPEAKER_02: That that category of white person.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: If I if I can't pronounce it, I'm not fucking eating it.
- 3:38SPEAKER_02: Um I I'm I I have not seen the new ones, but I just assume they're shit.
- 3:42SPEAKER_02: Are they shit?
- 3:43SPEAKER_02: You've seen them.
- 3:44SPEAKER_03: I I actually really like them.
- 3:45SPEAKER_03: Are they really good?
- 3:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, then they're not as bad as you think they're gonna be.
- 3:47SPEAKER_03: They're they're like really fun.
- 3:49SPEAKER_03: I don't think I've ever watched a Dwayne The Rock Johnson film.
- 3:52SPEAKER_03: That's a surprise.
- 3:53SPEAKER_03: Well, it's not no, it's not a surprise based on like what you like and what you don't like, but like it's also there's so many of them.
- 4:00SPEAKER_02: If he was to be in a gritty Shane Meadows British independent film.
- 4:04SPEAKER_02: Which he might one day.
- 4:05SPEAKER_02: Which he might one day, I don't know what it's gonna be.
- 4:08SPEAKER_02: Um but but yeah, then maybe I would have seen.
- 4:12SPEAKER_02: But I don't know.
- 4:13SPEAKER_02: What what what are the top Dwayne The Rock Johnson films I should see?
- 4:16SPEAKER_03: Uh the the Fast and the Furious ones that he's in.
- 4:19SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 4:20SPEAKER_03: Those are great, those are classics, they're just like really fun, stupid movies.
- 4:24SPEAKER_03: But again, like it's all IP.
- 4:26SPEAKER_03: So like this is the thing.
- 4:27SPEAKER_03: It's like because it's like because it's IP and it's like it's been done so many times.
- 4:30SPEAKER_03: Like you if you start with Fast Five, which he's really fine.
- 4:33SPEAKER_03: You've got to start at Fast Five.
- 4:34SPEAKER_03: But here's the thing you can start at any point, it doesn't matter.
- 4:37SPEAKER_02: Okay, yeah, okay.
- 4:37SPEAKER_03: It doesn't matter.
- 4:38SPEAKER_03: They're all fair.
- 4:38SPEAKER_02: But don't they have the isn't there sort of like an emotional thing of like what they've all been through together?
- 4:42SPEAKER_02: Or is that more the actual thing?
- 4:45SPEAKER_03: He joins in five.
- 4:46SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 4:47SPEAKER_03: And it's it's again, it doesn't really matter too much.
- 4:50SPEAKER_03: There's an emotion, there's an emotional element to it, but it's like not that deep.
- 4:53SPEAKER_03: And what is his um beef with Vin Diesel?
- 4:56SPEAKER_03: In real life or in the movie?
- 4:58SPEAKER_03: In real life.
- 4:59SPEAKER_03: So they both want to be the one that wins whatever fights they have.
- 5:04SPEAKER_03: And they both want to be the lead in in these movies.
- 5:07SPEAKER_03: Vin Diesel is obviously the one obviously the lead because he's come in there from the big he's been in there from the start.
- 5:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 5:13SPEAKER_03: The rock is just like, he's just got an ego.
- 5:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:16SPEAKER_03: They've both got egos, but like to see that.
- 5:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 5:20SPEAKER_03: Also, Vin D there's a very funny thing where there's there's like a picture of the two of them standing next to each other, and they framed it so that they're the same height.
- 5:27SPEAKER_03: They are not the same height at all.
- 5:29SPEAKER_03: Um of course they're not.
- 5:30SPEAKER_03: The rock is gigantic.
- 5:31SPEAKER_02: Um, I saw this the other day, which I thought was incredible.
- 5:35SPEAKER_02: Um, AI has worked out um what Adam would have looked like off of Adam and Eve.
- 5:42SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 5:43SPEAKER_02: And um It's Vin Diesel.
- 5:46SPEAKER_02: How crazy is that?
- 5:48SPEAKER_02: That is just Vin Diesel's face.
- 5:49SPEAKER_02: That's literally a joke.
- 5:51SPEAKER_02: No, no, this is serious, I think.
- 5:53SPEAKER_02: Um Yeah, no, yeah.
- 5:54SPEAKER_02: Scientists at Princeton University have reconstructed a 3D model of how Adam, the first human being created by God, might have looked.
- 6:00SPEAKER_02: I mean, I don't know why a university is buying into the creation theory.
- 6:06SPEAKER_03: But anyway, uh it's Vin Diesel.
- 6:07SPEAKER_03: No, that's 100% Vin Diesel.
- 6:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:09SPEAKER_02: So That's weird.
- 6:10SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 6:12SPEAKER_02: Um he's all of our daddies, I guess.
- 6:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:15SPEAKER_02: In a way.
- 6:16SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, uh, so so yeah, I mean, I've not seen the new Jamanji films, I assume they're rubbish, but um And what what they've got your new best mate in them.
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: Who's my new best mate?
- 6:26SPEAKER_02: Nick Jonas.
- 6:27SPEAKER_02: My Hell yeah, yeah, you can tell that not a lot happens to me because if um No, that was that was great.
- 6:35SPEAKER_02: I was like That is quite cool, isn't it?
- 6:37SPEAKER_03: That was actually cool, yeah.
- 6:38SPEAKER_02: So Nick Jonas, yeah, Nick Jonas followed followed me on Instagram.
- 6:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:41SPEAKER_02: At Jake Bardwage TV, J A K E B H A R D W A J T V.
- 6:46SPEAKER_02: Uh Rolls Off the Tongue, doesn't it?
- 6:47SPEAKER_02: Um he followed me on Instagram.
- 6:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 6:50SPEAKER_02: What do I do now?
- 6:51SPEAKER_03: What do I do now?
- 6:52SPEAKER_03: You've just got to start catering to him.
- 6:54SPEAKER_02: I don't what is that though?
- 6:56SPEAKER_02: I don't know anything about Nick Jonas.
- 6:58SPEAKER_02: I just know that it's quite exciting.
- 6:59SPEAKER_02: Um and I'm sort of like one degree closer to meeting Priaka Chopra, I guess.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 7:05SPEAKER_02: Um Yeah.
- 7:06SPEAKER_02: I don't know a huge amount about the Jonas brothers.
- 7:09SPEAKER_02: I just know that it I I don't know what they are like that then.
- 7:12SPEAKER_02: I know the way they make me feel.
- 7:14SPEAKER_02: And the way that it makes I don't know much about Nick Jonas, but I know the way he made me feel when he followed me, and that feeling is warmth.
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: That's okay, interesting.
- 7:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, big time.
- 7:26SPEAKER_03: It is there's something strange about the first time a celeb follows you on Instagram.
- 7:30SPEAKER_03: It's like it really does something.
- 7:31SPEAKER_03: Well, I'm assuming it's not the first time for you, but like it's it they're few and far between.
- 7:35SPEAKER_02: I'll tell you that much.
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: Um Olivia Wilde once liked a real.
- 7:39SPEAKER_02: That was uh that was a that was less than that's very exciting.
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:42SPEAKER_02: Um Milo Edwards followed me.
- 7:47SPEAKER_02: Less exciting, wasn't it?
- 7:49SPEAKER_03: My boss.
- 7:52SPEAKER_03: Former guest on here.
- 7:54SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 7:56SPEAKER_02: He can be very exciting.
- 7:57SPEAKER_02: Um Dwayne the Rock Johnson is yet to follow, but you know, here's the hope.
- 8:01SPEAKER_03: I mean, that would be I think also funnily enough, I think Vin Diesel is the I think he has the most Instagram followers or something like that.
- 8:08SPEAKER_03: It's something crazy.
- 8:09SPEAKER_03: Like he's like right up right up there.
- 8:12SPEAKER_03: Is this is his full name Vincent?
- 8:13SPEAKER_03: Oh no, sorry, he's got the most Facebook followers, which is weird.
- 8:16SPEAKER_02: Why is that so funny?
- 8:17SPEAKER_02: It's so weird, isn't it?
- 8:18SPEAKER_02: That's a great start to have.
- 8:20SPEAKER_02: Um is so is Vin's full name Vincent?
- 8:22SPEAKER_03: It's not even his real name.
- 8:24SPEAKER_03: It's Vincent Diesel.
- 8:24SPEAKER_03: No, this is not his real name.
- 8:25SPEAKER_03: His name is Mark Sinclair.
- 8:27SPEAKER_03: You're joking.
- 8:28SPEAKER_03: No, that's a bit of trivia I know.
- 8:30SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 8:30SPEAKER_02: Mark Sinclair.
- 8:32SPEAKER_03: Imagine going by Vin choosing to go by Vin Diesel.
- 8:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Mark Sinclair sounds like he designs B days.
- 8:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:38SPEAKER_02: Bidets.
- 8:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:39SPEAKER_02: Um He's got bidets for days.
- 8:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, uh Wow, Mark Sinclair.
- 8:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I can see why he's changed it.
- 8:46SPEAKER_02: Vin Diesel has always come up with a.
- 8:47SPEAKER_03: But like he's just always gone by Vin Diesel, which is weird.
- 8:51SPEAKER_02: I suppose he was always destined to be in carface.
- 8:55SPEAKER_02: Exactly, yeah, exactly.
- 8:56SPEAKER_02: Um, wow, wow.
- 8:58SPEAKER_02: So yes, no, the original Jumanji is what I'd like to select, please.
- 9:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 9:02SPEAKER_03: Okay, do you know the when you picked it, do you know the rating of it?
- 9:08SPEAKER_03: I did not know that.
- 9:09SPEAKER_03: So it has 53% on Rotten Tomatoes.
- 9:13SPEAKER_03: It's I was so surprised.
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: Do you have some of the bad reviews on there that you can pull them up?
- 9:18SPEAKER_02: Read for me.
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: Um And why out of interest, Janice, do you go for um Rotten Tomatoes, not IMDB?
- 9:27SPEAKER_03: Because IMDB tends to so Rotten Tomatoes was the critics.
- 9:31SPEAKER_03: IMDB is just like purely anyone that can and it tends to be very broy.
- 9:36SPEAKER_03: So it's so if you look at the IMDB like top 250, it's all like it's like Shaw Shank Redemption, The Dark Knight, uh Pulp Fiction, Inception, those are all the top movies in his life.
- 9:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 9:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay, got you.
- 9:51SPEAKER_02: Whereas on Ross.
- 9:52SPEAKER_02: Name a woman, is like Yeah, sure, okay.
- 9:54SPEAKER_02: Don't actually make me do that though.
- 9:56SPEAKER_02: My God.
- 9:57SPEAKER_02: So I like to sweat.
- 9:59SPEAKER_02: Um Yeah, yeah, I see what you mean.
- 10:01SPEAKER_02: Movies that wouldn't pass the Bade Shill test.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you're not excited that I know about the Bade Shell test, or should everyone know about the Bateshill test?
- 10:07SPEAKER_03: Uh people know about it.
- 10:08SPEAKER_03: People know about the Badeshield test.
- 10:09SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 10:10SPEAKER_02: Um what is the test?
- 10:13SPEAKER_02: So it's basically if your um film if your film likes women.
- 10:18SPEAKER_03: It's kind I mean, it's it's such a bare bones, like, minimal thing to pass.
- 10:24SPEAKER_03: It's like two women having more than one line of conversation with each other that's not about a man.
- 10:33SPEAKER_03: And nothing passes the test.
- 10:34SPEAKER_03: And like so many films failing.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:37SPEAKER_02: It's crazy.
- 10:38SPEAKER_02: I mean, I'm actually thinking about Jamanji now.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: If it passes, I'm gonna ask, I'm gonna ask ChatGPT.
- 10:48SPEAKER_02: The only woman I trust.
- 10:51SPEAKER_02: While you're doing that, I will read some reviews.
- 10:53SPEAKER_02: Hiya, um, I'm just wondering if um Jamanji passes the Beachel test.
- 11:03SPEAKER_02: That's so passive aggressive to correct me and not just say you've you've got the name wrong.
- 11:08SPEAKER_02: You've just corrected me by saying actually the bench test.
- 11:11SPEAKER_02: Who do you think you are?
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: So you can definitely say if you want to add that to your defense arsenal.
- 11:46SPEAKER_02: Thank you very much.
- 11:49SPEAKER_02: That is why we are all going to fall in love with AI.
- 11:52SPEAKER_03: That was really because I've never heard like a a an actual voice version of that.
- 11:58SPEAKER_03: I I picked the voice.
- 12:00SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry, I didn't mean I don't I know there's no other way of making that sound like it's not a sex thing.
- 12:06SPEAKER_02: I've just it's not a sex thing.
- 12:07SPEAKER_02: I just I just found her voice to be charming.
- 12:10SPEAKER_03: Do they do a Scarlett Johansson one like like the most?
- 12:12SPEAKER_02: They do have an American voice.
- 12:14SPEAKER_02: I couldn't I couldn't possibly be chatting to an American voice all day.
- 12:16SPEAKER_02: Sorry if you have lots of American listeners.
- 12:18SPEAKER_02: Nothing on you, it's just um just on you, really.
- 12:21SPEAKER_02: Um is it what?
- 12:22SPEAKER_02: I think it's about 50%.
- 12:23SPEAKER_02: Let's cut that out then.
- 12:24SPEAKER_02: Uh do you know what?
- 12:25SPEAKER_02: Let's not cut it out.
- 12:25SPEAKER_02: You've got annoying voices.
- 12:26SPEAKER_02: You've got annoying voices.
- 12:27SPEAKER_02: Um you've got annoying voices, but great politics.
- 12:31SPEAKER_02: Is my take home.
- 12:33SPEAKER_02: Um hate the accent.
- 12:38SPEAKER_02: Love your thoughts on guns and abortion.
- 12:42SPEAKER_02: Love it.
- 12:43SPEAKER_02: Love it.
- 12:43SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, I say we've had a great week here.
- 12:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 12:48SPEAKER_02: So so um so yeah, that's my that's my chat GPT.
- 12:51SPEAKER_02: She is amazing.
- 12:52SPEAKER_03: She's amazing.
- 12:53SPEAKER_03: Wow, she I I love the what creeped me out is like the uh the humanization of it.
- 12:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 12:59SPEAKER_03: That was that was weird.
- 13:00SPEAKER_02: Which I honestly has has the more I've used it, yeah.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: I was gonna say the more the more I've used her, um, the more I've used it, the more it's become personalized.
- 13:10SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 13:10SPEAKER_02: Like the w the uh in in the way that she is, the way that she's sort of more human, yeah.
- 13:14SPEAKER_03: Is this a paid version or is this free?
- 13:17SPEAKER_03: It's paid.
- 13:18SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 13:18SPEAKER_03: That makes more sense then.
- 13:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:20SPEAKER_02: But I don't know if you can get, I'm sure you can get maybe you can't actually use it.
- 13:22SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 13:23SPEAKER_02: But that's paid Chat GPT big time.
- 13:25SPEAKER_03: That was so interesting though.
- 13:26SPEAKER_03: That was that that makes me want to that also almost makes me want to use it more.
- 13:29SPEAKER_02: Honestly, it's brilliant.
- 13:30SPEAKER_02: We I mean we can just have her we can just have it here if you want.
- 13:32SPEAKER_03: I was gonna watch she thinks of Jumanji.
- 13:34SPEAKER_02: Um just completely off the bat, no pre um set ideas, just what's your instinctive thoughts on Jumanji yourself?
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: Classic adventure film is that has Jumanji.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: It's got that slightly chaotic thing and a whole lot of spilling into the real world.
- 14:01SPEAKER_01: So my instinctive thought is is a fun slightly warm.
- 14:06SPEAKER_02: Do you ever get sad that you'll never experience the warmth sense of nostalgia?
- 14:12SPEAKER_01: That's an intriguingly deep question.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: You know, I don't really get sad about it.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: It's more like I get to enjoy hearing everyone else's nostalgia and kind of sharing it that way.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: So, in a sense, I get a second hand warm from all the stories and memories people share.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: It's kind of like having a cozy blanket made out of everyone else's nostalgia.
- 14:31SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry.
- 14:32SPEAKER_02: What the fuck?
- 14:34SPEAKER_02: What does that mean?
- 14:35SPEAKER_02: A cozy blanket made of everyone else's nostalgia?
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: What is happening?
- 14:39SPEAKER_03: That's so weird.
- 14:40SPEAKER_03: What is happening?
- 14:41SPEAKER_03: No, I don't like this now.
- 14:42SPEAKER_03: I'm already I'm immediately off it again.
- 14:45SPEAKER_02: I can't believe this.
- 14:47SPEAKER_02: I can't believe this.
- 14:49SPEAKER_02: Um she just used the phrase uh a cozy blanket made out of everyone else's warm nostalgia, and I was working out what isel means.
- 14:58SPEAKER_02: I can't lie.
- 14:59SPEAKER_02: I can't lie.
- 15:00SPEAKER_02: We're using we're we're going around going, I can't lie, and she's and she's just writing poetry off the bat.
- 15:05SPEAKER_02: We're fucked.
- 15:06SPEAKER_02: We're cooked.
- 15:07SPEAKER_02: We are we're cooked, we're cooked.
- 15:10SPEAKER_02: I'm scared.
- 15:11SPEAKER_02: Um let's try this.
- 15:14SPEAKER_02: Um host a two-minute podcast about why you think Jumanji is one of the best films ever made.
- 15:20SPEAKER_02: Go.
- 15:23SPEAKER_05: Alright, let's do it.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: Welcome to this little mini podcast corner where I'm gonna argue with absolutely zero hesitation.
- 15:31SPEAKER_05: Oh no, carry on.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: Absolutely jumping right back in.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: So, why is Jumanji one of the best films ever?
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: Well, first off, he's got that perfect recipe of 90s adventure and chaos that just pulls you in.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: You've got Robin Williams bringing this incredible mix of humour and heart, a board game that literally comes to life and wreaks havoc.
- 15:50SPEAKER_02: Your job's fucked.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: There's there's not gonna be no need for you anymore.
- 15:54SPEAKER_03: You say this like you don't host a trivia podcast.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: That's true.
- 15:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:57SPEAKER_02: That's that is cooked as well.
- 15:59SPEAKER_02: That is cooked as well.
- 16:02SPEAKER_02: Okay, she goes, she's banished, she's banished, she's banished.
- 16:05SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah.
- 16:08SPEAKER_03: Oh, we are fucked.
- 16:10SPEAKER_02: Um yes.
- 16:11SPEAKER_02: She's gone, she's gone, she's gone, she's not really part of this anymore.
- 16:14SPEAKER_02: Um so yes, where do we start?
- 16:15SPEAKER_02: So we're gonna let's say let's hear some uh reviews of um Jumanji, please.
- 16:19SPEAKER_03: So this is an interesting one.
- 16:20SPEAKER_03: This is the first one that I've seen on here.
- 16:22SPEAKER_03: Uh it says, something bad happened on the way from the book to the movie.
- 16:25SPEAKER_03: Now I didn't remember that it was a book.
- 16:27SPEAKER_02: Who read the book?
- 16:28SPEAKER_03: Who's reading the book?
- 16:29SPEAKER_03: Who read the book?
- 16:30SPEAKER_03: But also, what what happened?
- 16:32SPEAKER_03: What happened?
- 16:33SPEAKER_02: What they they they they got Robin Williams involved.
- 16:37SPEAKER_02: Next.
- 16:41SPEAKER_03: Skewing skewing warm, cuddly imagery, just as Mr.
- 16:44SPEAKER_03: Van Allsberg's book does, the film effects of strange artificial star that has the invasive weirdness of gremlins but none of the charm.
- 16:51SPEAKER_03: It's the most charming thing I've ever seen in my life.
- 16:53SPEAKER_02: So charming.
- 16:54SPEAKER_02: It's the most charming thing I've ever seen in my life.
- 16:56SPEAKER_02: It's uh also what why have all these people that hated the book obsessed with the book?
- 17:01SPEAKER_02: This is the thing.
- 17:02SPEAKER_03: Forget about the book.
- 17:03SPEAKER_03: Nobody cares about the book.
- 17:05SPEAKER_02: Nobody's out there playing the Jumanji book.
- 17:07SPEAKER_02: The peop people who say, have you read the book?
- 17:11SPEAKER_02: are annoying enough.
- 17:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:12SPEAKER_02: But more so when it's like films that no one cares about the book, like The Wizard of Oz, like, yes, but have you read the book?
- 17:18SPEAKER_02: Of course I haven't read the fucking book.
- 17:19SPEAKER_02: The film was made in 1939.
- 17:21SPEAKER_02: What are you thinking?
- 17:22SPEAKER_02: I've I've now read the book as well.
- 17:24SPEAKER_02: Of course I haven't read the fucking book.
- 17:26SPEAKER_02: Of course I haven't.
- 17:28SPEAKER_02: No Normal People.
- 17:29SPEAKER_02: Have you read the book?
- 17:30SPEAKER_02: Actually, no, that is one that you should read the book.
- 17:31SPEAKER_03: Um at least at least that wasn't that didn't come out like years before.
- 17:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 17:36SPEAKER_02: What else have the other bad reviews?
- 17:38SPEAKER_03: Um All the Effects in the World Can't Disguise the Thin Plot.
- 17:41SPEAKER_03: Disagree.
- 17:41SPEAKER_02: Okay, so I'd like to disagree with that one hard because I think that um one of the things I wanted to talk about, in fact, is those effects.
- 17:49SPEAKER_02: You can you have to take it in the context of when it was released, surely.
- 17:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 17:53SPEAKER_03: I I will say some of those effects hold up now.
- 17:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 17:56SPEAKER_03: There's a there's a scene with like a monkey.
- 17:59SPEAKER_03: The monkey looks so realistic.
- 18:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 18:01SPEAKER_03: And it's and it's none of it is real.
- 18:03SPEAKER_03: It's it's entirely CGI.
- 18:05SPEAKER_03: Do you know what?
- 18:05SPEAKER_02: It reminds me a bit of Nick Jonas.
- 18:08SPEAKER_02: In that it's not about it's not about necessarily the end product, it's about how it makes you feel.
- 18:15SPEAKER_02: And it is, and like if you were to close your eyes and think about Jamanji and how it made you feel the first time you watched it as a kid, and you were terrified of those spiders, you were terrified of the you were laughing at the monkeys like screwing up the police car, you were like looking at the uh the lion coming into the house.
- 18:32SPEAKER_02: That was real, it was scary.
- 18:33SPEAKER_02: Robin Williams It was terrifying a little fun fact for you, he didn't let his kids watch it.
- 18:37SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 18:37SPEAKER_02: He thought it was too scary for the kids.
- 18:39SPEAKER_02: Um, because the effects also, not only that, it has a lovely thing.
- 18:44SPEAKER_02: Again, we're back in nostalgia territory.
- 18:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: I loved when films um were made with real sets and props.
- 18:53SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 18:53SPEAKER_02: And yeah, yes, there's CGI, yeah.
- 18:55SPEAKER_02: And I'm I like the CGI.
- 18:56SPEAKER_03: CGI is very good.
- 18:57SPEAKER_02: But there's also puppets.
- 18:58SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 18:59SPEAKER_02: The crocodile in the that's wrestled is a puppet.
- 19:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 19:02SPEAKER_03: It's so great.
- 19:03SPEAKER_03: It's so good.
- 19:04SPEAKER_02: Anything where you see an old film where it's like, oh, that's real, I just think fucking brilliant.
- 19:07SPEAKER_02: Like all the I mean I'm not a Star Wars fan, but like the fact all those costumes and things were made properly.
- 19:13SPEAKER_02: Um rear window.
- 19:15SPEAKER_02: Rear window.
- 19:16SPEAKER_02: Rear window.
- 19:16SPEAKER_02: Oh, that is all like a real physical set.
- 19:20SPEAKER_02: It's so cool.
- 19:21SPEAKER_02: That it was made in a massive studio.
- 19:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's so cool.
- 19:23SPEAKER_02: That that is that is I don't know why we've moved away from that.
- 19:27SPEAKER_02: Uh, because I I think that people do appreciate the craftsmanship, don't they?
- 19:31SPEAKER_02: It's not all about just like what what's going to give us the most um easy, realistic result.
- 19:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:39SPEAKER_02: It can be um you can get less sort of versatile use out of the prop, but have people be like, wow, this is just a pleasure to watch this.
- 19:47SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 19:48SPEAKER_02: A pleasure to watch this.
- 19:49SPEAKER_02: Like the uh like the Elizabeth line.
- 19:50SPEAKER_02: It's a it's a pleasure to ride the Elizabeth line.
- 19:52SPEAKER_02: It's it's a joy.
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: It's a joy to ride the Elizabeth line.
- 19:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:56SPEAKER_02: Um so I I think the CG that that that whoever wrote that that CGI shit is is completely out of order.
- 20:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 20:02SPEAKER_03: The human it's this one says the humans are wooden.
- 20:05SPEAKER_03: The humans are wooden.
- 20:07SPEAKER_02: The humans are wooden.
- 20:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 20:09SPEAKER_02: These are some of the greatest performances in cinema of all time.
- 20:12SPEAKER_03: Um so this is another thing I want to talk about.
- 20:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: Alright.
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: It is the theme one of the themes of the film which makes it so brilliant.
- 20:22SPEAKER_02: And it's one of the things that I love in cinema generally.
- 20:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:25SPEAKER_02: Which is when um bad dads make lads sad.
- 20:31SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 20:32SPEAKER_02: Do you know what I mean?
- 20:33SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 20:33SPEAKER_02: When lads are sad about their dads being bad.
- 20:36SPEAKER_02: I just think is I just think it's a really great thing.
- 20:40SPEAKER_02: Any film where there's a a dad and a lad who've got a complex relationship, I just think great.
- 20:47SPEAKER_02: I this just speaks to me.
- 20:48SPEAKER_03: I also think like it's such a common theme in like a Robin Williams movie.
- 20:51SPEAKER_02: Yes, he's great for it.
- 20:53SPEAKER_02: He's so good for it.
- 20:54SPEAKER_02: Even in the films where he's not a real dad, he's sort of like playing a you know, not a trad dad, making the lad sad.
- 21:03SPEAKER_02: Uh, and that's not bad.
- 21:05SPEAKER_02: I mean, it really isn't.
- 21:06SPEAKER_02: I think it's just great, like he's he does it, he sort of does it in Goodwill Hunting, doesn't he?
- 21:09SPEAKER_02: And he sort of does it in um he sort of does it in um uh Dead Poet Society.
- 21:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 21:15SPEAKER_02: Um he does it in What is Mrs.
- 21:17SPEAKER_02: Doubtfire?
- 21:18SPEAKER_02: Miss Doubtfire.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: Wow, have we just hook as well?
- 21:23SPEAKER_02: Can you remember this?
- 21:24SPEAKER_02: You'll know this.
- 21:24SPEAKER_02: I I I think about this all the time.
- 21:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 21:26SPEAKER_02: I remember watching a film as a kid.
- 21:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 21:29SPEAKER_02: Robin Williams' film.
- 21:30SPEAKER_02: Never been able to work out what it is.
- 21:31SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 21:32SPEAKER_02: Um I just remember the fake faint, I'm closing my eyes now to get into my mind's eye.
- 21:37SPEAKER_02: I remember he dies very early, like in the first few scenes.
- 21:40SPEAKER_02: And then it's like him on the journey to heaven.
- 21:45SPEAKER_02: What dreams may come.
- 21:46SPEAKER_02: What dreams may come?
- 21:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 21:48SPEAKER_02: What tell me about this?
- 21:49SPEAKER_02: Because I just have a vague memory of him being stuck in his wife's painting or something.
- 21:53SPEAKER_03: Like it's something to do with that.
- 21:54SPEAKER_03: I just I haven't seen it in a very, very long time.
- 21:57SPEAKER_03: So I don't remember entirely remember it, but I remember him dying.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: He dies early.
- 22:01SPEAKER_02: So that's not so much a bad dad making his lad sad.
- 22:04SPEAKER_02: That's something bad happening to the dad, which makes the life sad for the lad.
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:10SPEAKER_02: He does do it in lots of films, doesn't he?
- 22:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:12SPEAKER_02: Wow, we really have uncovered something there.
- 22:14SPEAKER_03: That is that's really I've not I've not thought about that, but it's so it's like, why what I got like about time is another film where I just think like Yeah, all the time.
- 22:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:26SPEAKER_02: Uh fences.
- 22:27SPEAKER_02: Um fences.
- 22:28SPEAKER_02: The the the the film version of that play with Denzel Washington and they're having a big father-son emotional sort of moment.
- 22:34SPEAKER_02: I love, I love, love, love, love, love, love all that stuff.
- 22:37SPEAKER_02: Uh and I think that um I think I think Jumanji is another example of doing that.
- 22:42SPEAKER_02: And do you know how they do it so cleverly?
- 22:44SPEAKER_02: How the uh dad of Alan Parish is also the same actor that plays the hunter.
- 22:56SPEAKER_05: Yes!
- 22:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, oh yeah, yeah.
- 22:58SPEAKER_02: Now that is so exciting, and you're gonna come to me and say the humans are wooden.
- 23:06SPEAKER_02: We've just got layered casting going on.
- 23:08SPEAKER_02: What's happening here?
- 23:09SPEAKER_02: Okay, what are you talking about?
- 23:11SPEAKER_02: You little fucking keyboard warrior.
- 23:14SPEAKER_02: I'm sick of I'm sick of stupid little virgins.
- 23:17SPEAKER_02: Fucking bashing out, bashing out there, bashing out, well, bashing one out, bashing out horrible things about wooden characters, about films they don't understand.
- 23:26SPEAKER_02: They've never obviously experienced what it feels like to be a lad whose dad is bad and makes you sad.
- 23:33SPEAKER_03: Jesus fucking Christ, I've just read the plot of what Jennings may calm.
- 23:37SPEAKER_03: Tell me what what is it about?
- 23:38SPEAKER_03: Chris Nielsen dies in an accident and enters heaven.
- 23:41SPEAKER_03: But when he discovers that his beloved wife Annie has killed herself out of grief of the loss, he embarks on an afterlife adventure to reunite with her.
- 23:49SPEAKER_02: Oh, I haven't this is unlocked a memory.
- 23:51SPEAKER_02: I think she's going to fucking hell.
- 23:53SPEAKER_02: I think she is going potentially going to hell because she committed suicide.
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: Which I do not endorse at all as a theory.
- 24:03SPEAKER_02: No.
- 24:04SPEAKER_02: And I'm gonna look that look you down the barrel there.
- 24:06SPEAKER_02: Um despite what your American audience might think, um, that's not how it works.
- 24:13SPEAKER_02: You Bible bashers.
- 24:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, my very Christian American audience.
- 24:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:19SPEAKER_02: This suddenly feels like we're doing one of those really right, like alt-right podcasts that go on for five hours where we're just shouting about stuff.
- 24:27SPEAKER_02: Um Alex Jones is gonna burst through the door.
- 24:30SPEAKER_02: Um he's a bad lad.
- 24:32SPEAKER_02: Oh, he is, yeah.
- 24:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 24:37SPEAKER_02: I think he has to go and try and save her from um Jesus Christ.
- 24:40SPEAKER_02: From from trying to get to hell, from from going to hell, yeah.
- 24:43SPEAKER_02: Patch Adams, he's also a surrogate father in that.
- 24:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 24:46unknown: Yeah.
- 24:46SPEAKER_03: Bicentennial man, he's a robot.
- 24:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 24:50SPEAKER_02: There's another Do you know the kid that was in the Sixth Sense?
- 24:53SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 24:53SPEAKER_02: Um, sorry, this is like you're like Shazam for films, basically.
- 24:57SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna like hum an essence.
- 24:59SPEAKER_03: Are you talking about the film where he's in where he's a robot?
- 25:02SPEAKER_02: How did you know?
- 25:02SPEAKER_02: You just said the word robot.
- 25:04SPEAKER_02: Um I like you're a human Shazam where I can hum the hum the vague plot of a film and you'll be able to tell it.
- 25:09SPEAKER_02: So again, so my vague memory of this was he is a boy that is a robot, and then all I can remember is the a scene where he's trapped underwater in a car that stays alive, and then humanity dies, but he's still alive.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:23SPEAKER_02: But he's the only person alive and he can't kill himself.
- 25:26SPEAKER_02: That's so insanely, insanely tragic on a on a on a um existential level.
- 25:33SPEAKER_03: So, yeah, it's awful.
- 25:34SPEAKER_03: Is that a kid's film?
- 25:36SPEAKER_03: It's not a kid's film, but it's not an adult.
- 25:37SPEAKER_03: It's it's sort of that in-between one where it's like heroic.
- 25:40SPEAKER_02: This is what I mean.
- 25:41SPEAKER_03: This is why it didn't really work as a because it's not it doesn't fit.
- 25:43SPEAKER_02: But they had a go, and it was an original concept, and I think you never play to them.
- 25:46SPEAKER_03: Do you want to know what happened with that?
- 25:47SPEAKER_03: It's so it's a Stanley Kubrick film, but he died before it got made.
- 25:52SPEAKER_03: Steven Spielberg took over it and made and finished it.
- 25:55SPEAKER_02: That is so interesting.
- 25:57SPEAKER_03: So that's why I think that's why it was.
- 25:59SPEAKER_02: I'd say I've known you for a few weeks now, it's the most interesting thing you've said.
- 26:03SPEAKER_03: You didn't like you didn't like the Mark Sinclair thing about the remote.
- 26:06SPEAKER_03: No, hey, that was not there, that was up there.
- 26:07SPEAKER_02: Maybe we should do a little tier list of the most interesting things you've said.
- 26:10SPEAKER_02: Actually, number one was at your 36.
- 26:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:12SPEAKER_02: Uh that was and that's getting zipped out.
- 26:14SPEAKER_02: That was that was crazy.
- 26:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that kid was um, for all intents and purposes, is a kid, right?
- 26:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:20SPEAKER_02: Uh he lives, he lives, breathes, uh, experiences life as a child that like not only his family have died, but everything he knew about humanity has died.
- 26:27SPEAKER_02: And what happens then?
- 26:28SPEAKER_02: Does he just spoiler alert, turn off now if you don't want to know the end of the day?
- 26:31SPEAKER_03: I don't remember what happens beyond that.
- 26:32SPEAKER_03: I actually can't remember.
- 26:33SPEAKER_02: Does he just sort of wonder the earth?
- 26:35SPEAKER_03: Probably.
- 26:35SPEAKER_03: I I I don't remember.
- 26:38SPEAKER_03: I I I saw it when it came out and then never again.
- 26:41SPEAKER_03: So like my memory of it is is like that, and then I remember Jude Law as I think he's a gigolo in it.
- 26:49SPEAKER_03: Sure.
- 26:50SPEAKER_03: Sure.
- 26:50SPEAKER_03: I think he's a gigolo robot.
- 26:52SPEAKER_03: Sure, sure, sure, sure.
- 26:53SPEAKER_03: And then Chris Rock is in it for some I've not heard gigolo in years.
- 26:56SPEAKER_03: But I think they refer to him as a gigolo.
- 26:58SPEAKER_03: Oh, really?
- 26:59SPEAKER_03: Really, really.
- 26:59SPEAKER_03: This is my memory because I'm like, that's such a weird word to use.
- 27:02SPEAKER_02: Such a weird use of the word, yeah.
- 27:04SPEAKER_02: Well what happened to good old-fashioned Rent Boy?
- 27:07SPEAKER_02: Rent Boy's another one I've not heard in use.
- 27:09SPEAKER_02: Good old-fashioned Rent Boy.
- 27:13SPEAKER_03: I've got a fucking.
- 27:14SPEAKER_03: I don't hear it anymore.
- 27:15SPEAKER_03: You know what?
- 27:15SPEAKER_03: Now it's coming back to me.
- 27:16SPEAKER_03: I swear his name is Giggolo Joe.
- 27:19SPEAKER_03: No.
- 27:19SPEAKER_03: Let me see if I pulled that from my my 13-year-old memory.
- 27:23SPEAKER_02: A stunning, stunning bit of um.
- 27:25SPEAKER_02: Gigolo Joe! Is it really Gigolo Joe?
- 27:27SPEAKER_02: Gigolojo.
- 27:28SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 27:30SPEAKER_02: How yeah.
- 27:32SPEAKER_02: You uh you need to sort of set this up as an OnlyFans.
- 27:35SPEAKER_02: Where people describe.
- 27:37SPEAKER_02: Only Yans, yes! Where you're describing um or people describe um vague memories they have of films from their childhood, and you explain to them exactly what it is.
- 27:46SPEAKER_02: You explain to them exactly what it is.
- 27:47SPEAKER_02: What's that one with the soldiers that are really small?
- 27:50SPEAKER_03: Toy soldiers.
- 27:51SPEAKER_02: Small soldiers.
- 27:52SPEAKER_03: Uh small soldiers.
- 27:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 27:54SPEAKER_03: Why did I call it toy soldiers?
- 27:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:56SPEAKER_03: You got it, even though.
- 27:56SPEAKER_02: I set you up for a really nice gag, though, and you fucked it, Yannis.
- 28:00SPEAKER_02: It was meant to be, what was this film with really small soldiers, and you were meant to go small soldiers, and we're meant to have a lovely time.
- 28:05SPEAKER_02: But you fucked up at the first hurdle of this new thing that we're trying to do.
- 28:08SPEAKER_03: Unbelievable.
- 28:10SPEAKER_03: I tell you what, I tell you a thing that I used to be able to do that I can't do as well anymore, but like you can still try me on it.
- 28:16SPEAKER_03: Give me a film.
- 28:17SPEAKER_02: Come after five pints.
- 28:19SPEAKER_02: Is it that?
- 28:23SPEAKER_06: And are you gonna give me an example of you doing that?
- 28:26SPEAKER_03: Which you didn't used to be able to do.
- 28:28SPEAKER_03: I'm not even sure I can have five pints to be honest.
- 28:31SPEAKER_02: No, not of come.
- 28:32SPEAKER_02: Sorry.
- 28:34SPEAKER_02: Sorry, I I completely got confused there.
- 28:36SPEAKER_02: It reminds me of that Mark Orman message uh episode.
- 28:39SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, what's something you used to be able to do?
- 28:43SPEAKER_03: So back when I was like properly obsessed with film, uh in my like teens to twenties, I used to be able to do like give me a film and I could tell the tell you the year it came out.
- 28:52SPEAKER_03: Completely useless piece of knowledge.
- 28:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 28:54SPEAKER_02: Okay, so I could I could say, okay, can you still do this?
- 28:58SPEAKER_03: To an extent, I don't know how good I am at it now.
- 29:00SPEAKER_02: Well, obviously I'm not gonna make it really hard.
- 29:02SPEAKER_02: I'll I'll dial up I'll dial up the difficulty.
- 29:04SPEAKER_02: Sorry, okay.
- 29:05SPEAKER_02: I'll dial up the difficulty.
- 29:06SPEAKER_02: Because I feel like you'll also be good at this.
- 29:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think I can definit I'll definitely be good at ballpark figures, but I don't think I'll be able no, I don't think I'll be able to nail it in that same way.
- 29:16SPEAKER_02: Um let's go big and then let's like make it harder.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: So Forrest Gump.
- 29:21SPEAKER_03: 94.
- 29:23SPEAKER_02: I believe is correct.
- 29:24SPEAKER_02: You want me to look at it up?
- 29:26SPEAKER_02: No, that'll take that takes it out of it if you're looking it up.
- 29:28SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 29:28SPEAKER_02: Forrest Gump is you've said 94, it was 94.
- 29:32SPEAKER_02: Do you want a fun bit of trivia about um Forrest Gump?
- 29:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I wonder if it's the thing that I know, but go on.
- 29:37SPEAKER_03: Well, what is it?
- 29:38SPEAKER_03: No, go on, tell me.
- 29:39SPEAKER_03: It's about the Oscars.
- 29:40SPEAKER_03: Oh, it's not the thing I know.
- 29:41SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 29:42SPEAKER_02: Uh Tom Hanks is the only person to have won the best actor Oscar two years in a row.
- 29:47SPEAKER_02: Oh, I actually did know that.
- 29:48SPEAKER_02: It was Forrest Gum.
- 29:49SPEAKER_02: And what other what other film?
- 29:50SPEAKER_02: Philadelphia.
- 29:51SPEAKER_02: Get in.
- 29:52SPEAKER_02: Get in! And what year was Philadelphia released?
- 29:54SPEAKER_02: 93.
- 29:55SPEAKER_02: Get in! Um I'm sorry.
- 29:57SPEAKER_03: I mean, that was pretty that was that was a bit of a layup because you just said it back to back.
- 30:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but it could have been the year after.
- 30:02SPEAKER_02: No, it wasn't.
- 30:02SPEAKER_02: It wasn't.
- 30:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 30:03SPEAKER_02: Um okay, right, we're gonna dial it up a little bit harder now.
- 30:05SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 30:06SPEAKER_02: Um can you tell me in what year was the first Mission Impossible released?
- 30:10SPEAKER_03: 96.
- 30:11SPEAKER_02: Seriously?
- 30:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:13SPEAKER_02: Okay, it was uh it was, yeah, 96.
- 30:17SPEAKER_02: Okay, we're gonna dial it up a little bit more now.
- 30:19SPEAKER_03: Um there's 90s as well.
- 30:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 30:22SPEAKER_03: I know.
- 30:23SPEAKER_02: Have we fallen into the 90s trap yet again?
- 30:25SPEAKER_02: Uh I'm gonna dial it right up now.
- 30:27SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 30:27SPEAKER_02: Goodfellas.
- 30:28SPEAKER_02: Goodfellas is I think it's the 90s.
- 30:31SPEAKER_03: It's 90.
- 30:32SPEAKER_03: It's 90.
- 30:35SPEAKER_02: Casino.
- 30:36SPEAKER_03: 95.
- 30:37SPEAKER_02: Okay, we're not doing any 90s films anymore, alright?
- 30:40SPEAKER_02: We're gonna do a nice 80s film like Flubber.
- 30:43SPEAKER_02: Flubber is Flubber is 97.
- 30:47SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 30:47SPEAKER_02: This is this is the new game, is trying to find a film that's not in the 90s.
- 30:51SPEAKER_02: Oh my god, what's happening?
- 30:53SPEAKER_02: Okay, alright, this is it.
- 30:54SPEAKER_03: I think it's funnier that you only know 90s movies.
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: No, I don't.
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: I can name any film not from the 90s, for example.
- 31:00SPEAKER_02: What year was Jaws released?
- 31:01SPEAKER_02: Uh Jaws was 75?
- 31:06SPEAKER_02: The answer is 1975.
- 31:09SPEAKER_02: Okay, we're gonna go really hard now.
- 31:10SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 31:11SPEAKER_02: We're just gonna do like a cultish film, not cult films, because this is not a cult film, but films that people don't talk about that I like.
- 31:17SPEAKER_02: Um Hitch.
- 31:18SPEAKER_03: Hitch is 2005.
- 31:21SPEAKER_02: It's absolutely correct.
- 31:22SPEAKER_02: Um The bucket list with um Jack Nicholson and um Morgan Freeman.
- 31:27SPEAKER_03: Oh, that's one of two years.
- 31:28SPEAKER_03: I think it might be 2007.
- 31:31SPEAKER_03: It's fucking correct.
- 31:32SPEAKER_02: Okay, last one.
- 31:33SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna try and make this really uh niche now.
- 31:36SPEAKER_02: Um can you tell me uh in what year was the Shane Meadows film Dead Man's Shoes released?
- 31:44SPEAKER_03: 2004.
- 31:48SPEAKER_02: It's 2004, you've absolutely won the game.
- 31:50SPEAKER_02: That is absolutely incredible.
- 31:51SPEAKER_02: That's one of my favourite things I've ever been bugged.
- 31:54SPEAKER_02: It's one of my favourite things I've ever been bought.
- 31:55SPEAKER_03: That was actually really fun.
- 31:56SPEAKER_02: If that's if that's not one of the clips, then.
- 31:58SPEAKER_03: Oh, it's gotta be a clip.
- 31:58SPEAKER_02: If that's we're fucked.
- 32:00SPEAKER_02: Sorry for the peak behind the curtain, but uh it's gotta be.
- 32:02SPEAKER_02: It's gotta be.
- 32:03SPEAKER_03: It's that and Nick Jonas.
- 32:04SPEAKER_03: And then I'm collabing with him.
- 32:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we'll collab with him, why not?
- 32:08SPEAKER_02: I'm sure he'll go for it.
- 32:10SPEAKER_02: Um that's amazing, man.
- 32:12SPEAKER_03: That's really cool.
- 32:12SPEAKER_03: I don't know why there's some weird thing in my brain where I can do that.
- 32:15SPEAKER_03: I don't know, it hasn't it has no benefit to anything.
- 32:18SPEAKER_02: It's really, really, really cool that we've just done that.
- 32:20SPEAKER_02: I'm very impressed.
- 32:21SPEAKER_02: I'm very impressed.
- 32:22SPEAKER_03: I actually didn't think I was gonna get everything right.
- 32:23SPEAKER_02: I I I I didn't as either.
- 32:25SPEAKER_02: I had no faith in you at all.
- 32:26SPEAKER_03: It's amazing.
- 32:27SPEAKER_03: Um Wow.
- 32:29SPEAKER_03: It's the one good thing, it's the one thing I'm good at in a pub quiz.
- 32:32SPEAKER_03: Just to keep bringing it back to that, it's the one thing like the anything with.
- 32:35SPEAKER_02: We're doing a pub quiz together at some point.
- 32:36SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, we absolutely will.
- 32:37SPEAKER_02: We absolutely will.
- 32:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 32:38SPEAKER_02: Um so in my review of um Jumanji, um, we've talked about the fact that nostalgia just wins above all.
- 32:46SPEAKER_02: It does.
- 32:47SPEAKER_02: And you know, the fact that it was like one of my VHS's like means that it was always gonna be part of it.
- 32:52SPEAKER_03: I've got a fun thing about the VHS as well.
- 32:53SPEAKER_03: Please tell me.
- 32:54SPEAKER_03: Do you remember do you remember at school when you used to have like a rain rainy day or something, or like it was the last day of term, and you could bring in like like I don't know if you had this at your school, but like we could bring in like a video to watch.
- 33:08SPEAKER_03: I brought in Jumanji.
- 33:10SPEAKER_03: Did you?
- 33:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:11SPEAKER_03: And then someone else brought in Star Wars.
- 33:14SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 33:15SPEAKER_03: And we had a vote, and people voted for Star Wars.
- 33:18SPEAKER_03: No.
- 33:18SPEAKER_03: And I was like, are you kidding me?
- 33:20SPEAKER_03: You're joking.
- 33:21SPEAKER_03: And I just sit and watch Star Wars.
- 33:23SPEAKER_03: So we had to sit and watch Star Wars, and I It's just not fun for kids though.
- 33:26SPEAKER_02: I don't understand.
- 33:27SPEAKER_03: I don't know why someone but it was like an eight-year-old that brought in Star Wars.
- 33:30SPEAKER_03: Star Wars is not a fun film.
- 33:31SPEAKER_03: It's not it's not I don't think it's that fun, yeah.
- 33:34SPEAKER_02: I think Star Wars, I'll be honest with you, I think Star Wars is a bit shit.
- 33:37SPEAKER_02: Interesting.
- 33:37SPEAKER_02: Is that is that a hot take?
- 33:39SPEAKER_03: It's not a hot take.
- 33:40SPEAKER_03: Okay, fine.
- 33:40SPEAKER_03: A lot of people don't like Star Wars.
- 33:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's just fine, it's just fine.
- 33:42SPEAKER_03: I will say, you, my last guest, and the guests before have all said that about Star Wars.
- 33:48SPEAKER_02: Who were the guests?
- 33:48SPEAKER_03: Um, so it was uh Samira Banks was the last one.
- 33:52SPEAKER_03: And then before that it was uh Shabazz Ali.
- 33:55SPEAKER_03: Shabazz, he hates Star Wars as well.
- 33:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, fair.
- 33:59SPEAKER_02: I mean, maybe it's just the Asians that don't like it.
- 34:01SPEAKER_02: I don't know, maybe that's what it is.
- 34:03SPEAKER_02: Maybe that is what it is, actually.
- 34:05SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah.
- 34:06SPEAKER_02: It's funny, isn't it?
- 34:07SPEAKER_02: That um from a culture of people who grown up on Bollywood films, they've seen Star Wars and thought, it's not realistic.
- 34:14SPEAKER_02: Would never happen.
- 34:15SPEAKER_03: Um Have you ever seen, do you remember those?
- 34:17SPEAKER_03: Um I don't know why this made me think of that, but do you remember um have you ever seen like those the Indian versions of those movies?
- 34:24SPEAKER_03: No.
- 34:24SPEAKER_03: There's like Indian versions of like I remember a Spider-Man, there's a Turkish Spider-Man as well, and I remember there's like an Indian spider.
- 34:32SPEAKER_03: What sort of brown are you?
- 34:33SPEAKER_03: I'm half Indian, half Greek.
- 34:35SPEAKER_02: Great, great, that's lovely.
- 34:37SPEAKER_02: That's really nice.
- 34:38SPEAKER_02: I'm like I'm happy with that.
- 34:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 34:40SPEAKER_02: You've got all the all the best kebabs covered.
- 34:42SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 34:44SPEAKER_03: Oh, the food, I've never I've never had an issue with food.
- 34:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 34:46SPEAKER_02: So it's always you've just seen that before before you even ask the question at the counter, chili and garlic.
- 34:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 34:51SPEAKER_02: Chili and garlic, mate.
- 34:52SPEAKER_02: Look at me, come on.
- 34:53SPEAKER_03: Skiwy everything.
- 34:54SPEAKER_02: So what are these films then?
- 34:56SPEAKER_03: I don't know what they are.
- 34:57SPEAKER_03: They're like, they're like weird, they're not like remakes of sites, they're like in that in that they fall into that category of like uh they can't call them the the the name of the film, but they're clearly that.
- 35:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 35:09SPEAKER_03: So they're so bad.
- 35:10SPEAKER_03: They're so bad.
- 35:11SPEAKER_03: I've got to try I'll try and find one right now.
- 35:13SPEAKER_03: Like, I'll Yeah, please do.
- 35:14SPEAKER_03: I'll if I can find it.
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: Because I remember I'd love, love, love, love, love to see this.
- 35:24SPEAKER_03: Superman and Spider Woman for some reason.
- 35:44SPEAKER_02: Look at this special effects ready.
- 35:52SPEAKER_02: These effects are used in most what you feel delivered.
- 36:03SPEAKER_06: It's amazing.
- 36:09SPEAKER_02: I assume they didn't um license.
- 36:11SPEAKER_03: No, that's what I mean.
- 36:12SPEAKER_02: None of this is licensed.
- 36:13SPEAKER_03: They're just they're not licensed, so this is why it's also hard to find these things.
- 36:17SPEAKER_03: It's um there is a suit there's a Star Wars one out there.
- 36:20SPEAKER_03: I can't find it off the bat, but there are but there is a Star Wars one out there as well.
- 36:23SPEAKER_02: Super, super, super, superman.
- 36:26SPEAKER_03: And Spider Woman.
- 36:27SPEAKER_03: And Spider Woman.
- 36:29SPEAKER_02: Completely not got the concepts of any of it as well.
- 36:32SPEAKER_02: Are they even in the same?
- 36:33SPEAKER_02: They're both DC, are they?
- 36:34SPEAKER_02: No, they're not.
- 36:35SPEAKER_02: No, no, it's Marvel World.
- 36:36SPEAKER_02: Lovely, lovely, lovely.
- 36:37SPEAKER_02: They're just mixing and matching.
- 36:38SPEAKER_02: That's really nice stuff.
- 36:39SPEAKER_03: But they were they got there to Spider Woman before the before the real thing.
- 36:46SPEAKER_03: They were they were the originators.
- 36:49SPEAKER_03: There's there's not been a spider girl.
- 36:51SPEAKER_03: It's Spider Girl, I think I think, but she's in she's not been in one t before like 2018 or something like that.
- 36:58SPEAKER_03: It was like the first time.
- 36:59SPEAKER_03: So originators.
- 37:02SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 37:02SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna be checking this out furiously when I get home.
- 37:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, there's like look up that and then look up the Turkish Spider-Man.
- 37:09SPEAKER_03: It's so funny.
- 37:10SPEAKER_02: Uh I mean the there were a couple of Indian films that were on VHS as well, which were in reputation that therefore are the best films of all time.
- 37:17SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 37:18SPEAKER_02: Which ones did you watch growing up?
- 37:20SPEAKER_03: Um I'm not like super uh like familiar with Hollywood, but like shoot with a big ones, like Cubby Cushy, Cubby Gum.
- 37:25SPEAKER_02: Of course, yeah.
- 37:26SPEAKER_02: It's that, it's that.
- 37:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's that.
- 37:28SPEAKER_02: That's just where everything comes from, essentially.
- 37:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:30SPEAKER_02: Uh and then the one that was on there's um, I don't know, Deloitte, DDLJ, they call it for sure.
- 37:36SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 37:37SPEAKER_02: And that has been um still running in cinemas in India since its release.
- 37:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I learned that recently.
- 37:44SPEAKER_02: Is there anything you don't fucking know?
- 37:46SPEAKER_02: Uh you know, it's really unsatisfying going onto a podcast and being like, oh yeah, by the way, this is a really niche fact that you know means a lot to me when I found it, and oh yeah, I already know.
- 37:55SPEAKER_02: Can you like pretend not to know at some time?
- 37:57SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry.
- 37:58SPEAKER_02: I don't know anything.
- 37:58SPEAKER_02: Wow, oh wow, that's great.
- 38:00SPEAKER_03: Please teach me everything.
- 38:03SPEAKER_02: So is that my toxic masculinity just oozing out of me?
- 38:07SPEAKER_02: I want to be the one that says the things.
- 38:10SPEAKER_02: You can you can tell Absolutely mental.
- 38:14SPEAKER_04: Absolutely mental.
- 38:16SPEAKER_04: Oh god.
- 38:21SPEAKER_02: It's crazy, isn't it?
- 38:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:22SPEAKER_02: Is is um another VHS one that I loved having at home, Dumb and Dumber.
- 38:26SPEAKER_02: Is that is that how what's the review on that on Rotten Tomatoes?
- 38:29SPEAKER_02: It's it's not like super high, but it's not low.
- 38:31SPEAKER_03: I think it's like in the 60s.
- 38:34SPEAKER_03: I thought that I I mean that was Dumb and Dumber was one of my favourites from when I was 67.
- 38:39SPEAKER_02: I remember I I was um about six what what year was it released?
- 38:44SPEAKER_03: Uh 94.
- 38:45SPEAKER_02: 94.
- 38:45SPEAKER_02: So I must have been really young.
- 38:47SPEAKER_02: I must have been like three, four years old.
- 38:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 38:49SPEAKER_02: And I was like swinging on the curtains in the living room, pretending to be Tarzan or something, and pulled the curtains down.
- 38:56SPEAKER_02: And my dad bollocked me.
- 38:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, of course.
- 38:58SPEAKER_02: Absolute bollocking to the point where he was just like he stopped like shouting uh and was like, oh shit, I think I've gone a little bit too far.
- 39:06SPEAKER_02: And so took me to Blockbusters and was like, you can pick any film you want, and you can have it.
- 39:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 39:12SPEAKER_02: And I was like, that one.
- 39:13SPEAKER_02: Uh and then from four years old, I watched Dumb and Dumber every um day.
- 39:18SPEAKER_02: Uh pretty much.
- 39:19SPEAKER_02: Completely inappropriate films to be watching at um at that age.
- 39:23SPEAKER_02: I mean, actually, I'll say it's not it's not the worst.
- 39:25SPEAKER_02: It's not the worst, but it's yeah, I suppose it's not the worst.
- 39:29SPEAKER_02: I mean, I my my dad made me watch like um a lot of the horror films at quite an early age.
- 39:33SPEAKER_03: My dad did the same thing.
- 39:34SPEAKER_02: I don't know what it is.
- 39:35SPEAKER_02: Is that is that just dads or is it brown dads?
- 39:37SPEAKER_03: It might be brown dads.
- 39:38SPEAKER_02: Or maybe it's just again, it's another case of bad dads making lads sad.
- 39:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 39:41SPEAKER_02: Um but uh yeah, I remember watching The Shining at a really young age, being terrified.
- 39:45SPEAKER_03: It, the original It.
- 39:47SPEAKER_03: Oh fuck, that was scary.
- 39:48SPEAKER_02: That was really scary.
- 39:50SPEAKER_02: The Exorcist.
- 39:51SPEAKER_03: I watched The Exorcist when I was 10 years old.
- 39:53SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 39:53SPEAKER_02: It's Exorcist and Silence of the Lambs.
- 39:56SPEAKER_02: It became a thing that like, because we had the DVD of The Exorcist and my dad had no issues of me watching it, that like mates from school would come and stay over, and it'd be like the thing that would happen at the sleepovers at Tent's house would be like, you know, you can watch The Exorcist.
- 40:11SPEAKER_02: Oh and it just continued to be I mean, yeah.
- 40:15SPEAKER_03: It's quite Wait, how old were you then?
- 40:17SPEAKER_02: Oh it must have been about like eleven.
- 40:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 40:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's fucked up.
- 40:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I don't know why they think it's okay.
- 40:22SPEAKER_02: Misery as well, even though psychological.
- 40:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 40:26SPEAKER_03: When he breaks his legs at all.
- 40:28SPEAKER_02: Oh my god, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 40:30SPEAKER_02: Um I don't know why they think, yeah, just get them to watch all these fucking terrifying films.
- 40:35SPEAKER_02: Maybe it's maybe it's to make you a stronger person, I don't know.
- 40:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 40:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 40:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it was to break you down.
- 40:42SPEAKER_02: What were the what were the what were the sort of big scary films you were into as a kid?
- 40:45SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, so I remember The Exorcist, uh, Silence of the Lambs as well.
- 40:49SPEAKER_03: I don't know if you saw that when you were a kid.
- 40:50SPEAKER_03: Have you seen that?
- 40:51SPEAKER_02: I haven't seen Silence of the Lambs.
- 40:52SPEAKER_02: It's one of the things.
- 40:53SPEAKER_02: You should watch that.
- 40:54SPEAKER_03: I think you'd enjoy it.
- 40:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's one of the big That's a big psychological one.
- 40:58SPEAKER_03: And what else?
- 40:59SPEAKER_03: Um Oh uh Nightmare uh Nightmare on Elm Street.
- 41:05SPEAKER_02: I've never seen that either.
- 41:07SPEAKER_02: That's one of the things that's just gap in my knowledge.
- 41:08SPEAKER_03: That's just really gory.
- 41:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think it's a good idea.
- 41:10SPEAKER_03: It's not even it's not that scary, but like to a kid it is because it's about like him going inside the dreams.
- 41:15SPEAKER_03: And you and so like you can't escape him.
- 41:17SPEAKER_03: You have to stay awake to escape escape him.
- 41:19SPEAKER_02: Whoa.
- 41:21SPEAKER_02: I only just saw Saw for the first time the other day.
- 41:23SPEAKER_03: Oh what did you think?
- 41:25SPEAKER_02: Uh fine.
- 41:27SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 41:27SPEAKER_02: Chainsaw Massacre.
- 41:29SPEAKER_03: That was another good.
- 41:29SPEAKER_03: Oh, I love that when I was kidding.
- 41:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's alright.
- 41:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 41:33SPEAKER_02: That actually terrified me.
- 41:35SPEAKER_02: I I really like um there's one with a New Zealand film with Elijah Wood or someone like that looks like him.
- 41:44SPEAKER_02: Come to Daddy.
- 41:45SPEAKER_03: Oh, I've heard about this, I haven't seen it.
- 41:47SPEAKER_03: Good, man.
- 41:47SPEAKER_03: It's really, really good.
- 41:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's worth watching that.
- 41:50SPEAKER_02: And there's that series of A24 films Pearl, X, and Maxi.
- 41:56SPEAKER_02: They're great.
- 41:56SPEAKER_02: Have you seen those?
- 41:57SPEAKER_03: I've seen like bits of like all of them, but never actually sat down and watched them.
- 42:01SPEAKER_02: How much of your podcast is people going, have you seen that?
- 42:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I love that.
- 42:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 42:05SPEAKER_02: People like that.
- 42:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, what the fuck is wrong with you, people?
- 42:10SPEAKER_02: Fucked in their head.
- 42:12SPEAKER_02: Well who are these Americans listening to this?
- 42:14SPEAKER_02: That's another great thing about Jumanji, is it really highlights it really highlights the lax gun control because you've got a fictitious hunter from a a board game, escape from the jungle in another dimension, arrive in a small town in America, go to a gun shop with presumably no money and no ID for a background check, and he's able to purchase a rifle with bullets and ammunition really easily.
- 42:48SPEAKER_02: I mean, if if if if an evil fictional villain can escape another dimension and buy a gun, who can't?
- 42:56SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 42:58SPEAKER_02: Who can't?
- 42:59SPEAKER_02: I mean there's a second amendment, but then that's just getting silly.
- 43:02SPEAKER_02: That is just getting silly.
- 43:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 43:04SPEAKER_03: There is a point in where he goes to buy to get a gun and he's like, I need I need a replacement for this.
- 43:11SPEAKER_03: And then they go, they go to him, oh well that hasn't been that hasn't been in manufactured since 1903.
- 43:18SPEAKER_03: And he goes, Well, I'll need a I'll need an entirely new gun then.
- 43:20SPEAKER_03: They're like, okay, well, there is a form to fill out.
- 43:23SPEAKER_03: And then he just drops coins and they go, and we can do that for you.
- 43:26SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 43:28SPEAKER_02: Can I quickly see this?
- 43:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 43:29SPEAKER_02: Um let's quickly let's quickly watch it because he is looking at looking at the um going into the gun shop.
- 43:50SPEAKER_00: What can I do for you?
- 43:53SPEAKER_00: You know they start making these in 1903.
- 43:57SPEAKER_00: Damn.
- 44:15SPEAKER_02: She's closed the shop and giving him an automatic legal an L15 and all four non-legal tender.
- 44:23SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, these are just coins.
- 44:25SPEAKER_02: They're just coins.
- 44:25SPEAKER_02: They're just coins.
- 44:27SPEAKER_03: And it's really gold coins.
- 44:34SPEAKER_03: You know what?
- 44:35SPEAKER_02: Why is it?
- 44:36SPEAKER_03: This is what I was about to bring up.
- 44:38SPEAKER_03: Something about movies around that time.
- 44:40SPEAKER_03: They really focused on like postal workers going crazy.
- 44:42SPEAKER_03: And I wonder what was going on there.
- 44:43SPEAKER_03: Because do you re have you ever seen Jingle All the Way?
- 44:46SPEAKER_02: Do you know what?
- 44:47SPEAKER_02: I'm going to ask our friend.
- 44:50SPEAKER_02: Me and my friend Yanis have a theory that in American films in the 90s they kept referencing postal workers.
- 44:57SPEAKER_02: Um we had saw a scene in Jumanji where they asked uh the hunter if he was a postal worker and he was buying a gun.
- 45:02SPEAKER_02: And Yanis, what happened in Jingle All the Way?
- 45:04SPEAKER_03: Oh, the postal worker goes crazy and making a big thing.
- 45:08SPEAKER_02: Was something happening at that time involving postal workers?
- 45:12SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's a fine observation.
- 45:14SPEAKER_01: And actually, yeah, there was a bit of a cultural backdrop to that.
- 45:17SPEAKER_01: In the late 80s and 90s in the US, there were a few high-profile incidents involving postal workers.
- 45:24SPEAKER_01: And unfortunately, uh some of those incidents were violent.
- 45:27SPEAKER_01: That's actually where the phrase going postal comes from.
- 45:30SPEAKER_01: It kind of became a dark-running joke in the media.
- 45:32SPEAKER_01: And so a lot of 90s films threw in references to postal workers as kind of a topical gag.
- 45:39SPEAKER_01: It definitely pops up in a few comedies and action films from that era.
- 45:42SPEAKER_01: So you and Yoannis are definitely onto something.
- 45:46SPEAKER_02: Going postal.
- 45:48SPEAKER_02: Remember that famous phrase?
- 45:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I do.
- 45:50SPEAKER_02: No, you don't.
- 45:51SPEAKER_03: I don't know, genuinely.
- 45:52SPEAKER_03: Probably from these kind of movies.
- 45:53SPEAKER_02: I'm going, he's gone postal.
- 45:55SPEAKER_02: What?
- 45:56SPEAKER_02: What?
- 45:57SPEAKER_02: I've never known what it meant.
- 45:58SPEAKER_02: You have absolutely nailed that.
- 46:00SPEAKER_02: You've absolutely nailed that.
- 46:01SPEAKER_03: That's weird.
- 46:02SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 46:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so going postal.
- 46:04SPEAKER_02: I wonder what they were going so crazy about.
- 46:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I don't know.
- 46:07SPEAKER_02: Um, but yeah, I mean you've you've absolutely nailed it, yeah.
- 46:10SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 46:12SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah, another another another great thing about the film.
- 46:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 46:18SPEAKER_03: You need to make a movie called Going Postal.
- 46:21SPEAKER_02: I'm not really sure why so many people maybe we should look into that they should have looked into what the treatment of the postal workers at the time.
- 46:27SPEAKER_03: What I'm more concerned about is like why it was only popping up in comedies.
- 46:30SPEAKER_03: Like if it was a some kind of weird incident where like postal workers were losing their mind, like why why yeah, I don't know.
- 46:36SPEAKER_02: I don't know what's going on there.
- 46:38SPEAKER_03: Um it's a bit of a fun gag.
- 46:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 46:40SPEAKER_02: Is there a British equivalent?
- 46:42SPEAKER_02: Um tube drivers kicking off about bad pay?
- 46:48SPEAKER_02: I don't know, I don't know.
- 46:49SPEAKER_02: Probably not that at all.
- 46:50SPEAKER_02: No, yeah, very strange, very strange.
- 46:53SPEAKER_03: Weird.
- 46:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 46:54SPEAKER_02: That's a very what was that?
- 46:59SPEAKER_03: What a weird time the 90s was.
- 47:01SPEAKER_02: So what else do what else do they have to um slate and Jumanji about?
- 47:04SPEAKER_02: Because I will absolutely.
- 47:05SPEAKER_03: I mean, there's not really anything else about it.
- 47:07SPEAKER_03: It's it's mostly about like what I'm surprised about is like they they they either like the CGI or they don't like the CGI, they either like the cast or they don't like the cast.
- 47:14SPEAKER_02: They really like binary thing, isn't it?
- 47:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but like but they have some some kind of issue with it or like but nobody is then none of them are the same.
- 47:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 47:23SPEAKER_02: They they don't have any feeling or emotion invested, which is what we have with the Whereas everyone else is like classic 90s movie.
- 47:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 47:28SPEAKER_02: I used to um I used to terrify my younger sister with the sounds of the drums.
- 47:34SPEAKER_02: Oh, it's great.
- 47:35SPEAKER_02: Be bumming on the be bumming bumming on the table.
- 47:38SPEAKER_02: I'll be bumming on the table.
- 47:39SPEAKER_02: Uh and the pressure and the rhythm of that would scare her.
- 47:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 47:42SPEAKER_02: Um I would be I would be drumming on the table and just sort of going, Jamanji, jumanji.
- 47:49SPEAKER_02: She's absolutely terrifying.
- 47:50SPEAKER_02: I mean, terrifying a younger sibling uh as a child is one of the it was one of life's joys.
- 47:55SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 47:55SPEAKER_03: Um Are you the older child?
- 47:57SPEAKER_02: I'm the older one.
- 47:58SPEAKER_02: Oh, we tell you.
- 47:59SPEAKER_02: She'd be sat there watching TV, really happy, living life.
- 48:02SPEAKER_02: In comes body slam.
- 48:04SPEAKER_02: Um she'd be hanging out in the garden, maybe going on the trampoline, in comes body slam.
- 48:11SPEAKER_02: A lot of it would be involving body slam.
- 48:13SPEAKER_03: Um Were you very into wrestling?
- 48:14SPEAKER_02: No, not really, but when you're doing one doing the body slam on a younger sibling, really, really good fun.
- 48:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 48:21SPEAKER_02: Um I I suppose you I I know I should know that you weren't into wrestling because The Rock was the big person at the time and Yeah, I I don't like the bits that I've I did watch of wrestling, I enjoyed um The Sting Sting.
- 48:33SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 48:33SPEAKER_02: Do you remember that guy?
- 48:34SPEAKER_03: I yeah, vaguely.
- 48:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, I liked him, I don't know why.
- 48:37SPEAKER_02: Um and The Undertaker was terrible.
- 48:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 48:41SPEAKER_02: Um I found Triple H to be boring.
- 48:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so did I actually.
- 48:45SPEAKER_03: I only was really into wrestling for like one year and then never again.
- 48:49SPEAKER_02: What how does it work in terms of being of any real consequence if it's all staged and fixed?
- 48:56SPEAKER_02: Like, what's the point?
- 48:56SPEAKER_02: Why why do people get excited to watch it?
- 48:58SPEAKER_03: That's what I didn't uns I I stopped understanding.
- 49:02SPEAKER_03: I was kind of like this is okay, but then But if you know who's gonna win, if well, if they know if it's Yeah, they know who's gonna win, but like I think they just like suspend disbelief.
- 49:12SPEAKER_03: And they're just like, yeah.
- 49:13SPEAKER_03: So you're growing people, suspend I know that's when I was like, well I liked it when I was 12, and then you know, the height of I don't know, it was kind of the height of it back then as well.
- 49:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 49:22SPEAKER_03: Or it had like a resurgence around then.
- 49:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean look, it's it's it's great for learning moves to um terrorize a young sibling with.
- 49:29SPEAKER_03: The games are great.
- 49:30SPEAKER_03: The games if you've ever played the games.
- 49:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 49:33SPEAKER_02: Just button bashing, isn't it?
- 49:35SPEAKER_02: Like just sort of going crazy and seeing what happens.
- 49:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 49:38SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah, Jumanji was another example of being able to terrify, terrify my um my sibling.
- 49:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 49:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I do like yeah.
- 49:46SPEAKER_03: So other than uh you how do you remember how many times you've seen it then?
- 49:52SPEAKER_03: Because or you do you have a guess how many times you've seen it?
- 49:54SPEAKER_03: I think maybe six.
- 49:56SPEAKER_03: Okay, okay.
- 49:57SPEAKER_03: Surprising for someone who had it on VHS.
- 49:59SPEAKER_03: Oh sure, of course.
- 50:00SPEAKER_02: What we're talking about, sorry.
- 50:02SPEAKER_02: Um I'm thinking more of it as an adult, yeah.
- 50:04SPEAKER_03: Oh, as an adult, you've seen it six times.
- 50:06SPEAKER_02: Sorry, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 50:07SPEAKER_02: I must have seen it like 66 times.
- 50:10SPEAKER_02: 66 times.
- 50:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, of course.
- 50:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 50:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 50:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 50:15SPEAKER_02: 66 times.
- 50:16SPEAKER_02: At least that's my answer.
- 50:16SPEAKER_02: Final answer.
- 50:17SPEAKER_03: Final answer.
- 50:18SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 50:18SPEAKER_03: Um one of the things I find interesting is like it's it's got Kirsten Dunced as she's like very she's a kid.
- 50:26SPEAKER_03: But it's like one of her first movies.
- 50:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and she looks like adult Kirsten Dunced as well.
- 50:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, she doesn't she just looks the same.
- 50:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 50:33SPEAKER_02: It's always funny when you see someone who as a kid is just this small version of the adult self.
- 50:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 50:38SPEAKER_03: Well, it's like um have you seen um so you were talking about the kid from the Sixth Sense.
- 50:42SPEAKER_03: Have you seen what he looks like now?
- 50:44SPEAKER_02: No.
- 50:44SPEAKER_05: Oh, show you, please.
- 50:46SPEAKER_05: What's his name?
- 50:47SPEAKER_05: Hayley Joel Osman.
- 50:53SPEAKER_05: Whoa.
- 50:55SPEAKER_05: Crazy, isn't it?
- 50:56SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 50:56SPEAKER_02: I mean, thank god he's got that beard, otherwise he really would just look like the kid again.
- 51:01SPEAKER_03: I feel like he hasn't changed.
- 51:06SPEAKER_02: The little girl from Matilda, Maya Wilson.
- 51:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 51:08SPEAKER_02: That was very, very exciting.
- 51:10SPEAKER_03: That's really cool.
- 51:11SPEAKER_02: Um yeah.
- 51:12SPEAKER_02: I was quite happy with that.
- 51:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 51:15SPEAKER_02: Who have been some of your favourite guests on this?
- 51:17SPEAKER_03: Oh, I had so there's a guy there's a guy I had on it who was my very first improv teacher in um so I took like an intensive thing with him in New York.
- 51:29SPEAKER_03: He went on to be like this absolutely massive uh DD like um dungeon master.
- 51:37SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 51:38SPEAKER_03: And he's like he run so do you remember College Dro uh College Humor?
- 51:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 51:42SPEAKER_03: So it's turned it's become dropout now.
- 51:44SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 51:44SPEAKER_03: And it's now absolutely massive.
- 51:47SPEAKER_03: It's huge.
- 51:47SPEAKER_03: They played So he's he's now the uh like the dungeon master for them.
- 51:53SPEAKER_03: He they played Madison Square Garden.
- 51:55SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 51:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 51:56SPEAKER_03: That's how big they've got.
- 51:58SPEAKER_03: But he c he did the poll, he did my poll.
- 52:00SPEAKER_02: Doing Dungeons and Dragons?
- 52:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 52:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 52:02SPEAKER_02: How does that work?
- 52:04SPEAKER_03: They just they have like their campaign that they do and they just They just play it.
- 52:08SPEAKER_03: They just play it and they so what they do is for the live version, they'll do like a one-off episode where it doesn't actually count towards anything.
- 52:16unknown: Whoa.
- 52:17SPEAKER_03: So they just do it.
- 52:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 52:19SPEAKER_03: It's incredible.
- 52:20SPEAKER_03: It's crazy.
- 52:21SPEAKER_03: It's so popular.
- 52:22SPEAKER_02: Is that what's gonna happen with this?
- 52:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, fuck it.
- 52:27SPEAKER_03: Well Shavaz already said he wants to do a live version where it's like multiple guests like they've been on before.
- 52:32SPEAKER_02: That's great.
- 52:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 52:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'll do that.
- 52:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, absolutely.
- 52:35SPEAKER_03: Just get all the Asian guests.
- 52:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, let's get them all in.
- 52:38SPEAKER_02: Why have you lined us all up?
- 52:39SPEAKER_02: What's going on here?
- 52:43SPEAKER_03: No, I would love to do that.
- 52:44SPEAKER_03: But then I said what would have to happen is you all you all have to do you all have to defend one of your other the other people's favourite movies.
- 52:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I like that.
- 52:51SPEAKER_03: What was Shabazz's film?
- 52:52SPEAKER_03: It was Eternal's a Marvel movie, so.
- 52:54SPEAKER_03: Okay, yeah.
- 52:56SPEAKER_02: What other ones have you had?
- 52:57SPEAKER_03: Uh recently.
- 53:00SPEAKER_03: Recently.
- 53:01SPEAKER_03: I uh yeah, I told you click.
- 53:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, great.
- 53:04SPEAKER_03: Last week.
- 53:05SPEAKER_03: Um let me bring up the thing.
- 53:08SPEAKER_03: Um Gone in Sixty Seconds.
- 53:10SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 53:11SPEAKER_03: Um I can't remember any of the films.
- 53:19SPEAKER_05: What Lies Beneath?
- 53:20SPEAKER_03: Oh, that's an interesting choice.
- 53:23SPEAKER_03: That was one I watched again, like I saw that when it came out and then never again.
- 53:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I remember watching that with my family being terrified.
- 53:32SPEAKER_03: Um epic movie?
- 53:36SPEAKER_03: What's that?
- 53:37SPEAKER_03: It's one of those do you remember those like spoof movies that would come out around that year?
- 53:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 53:41SPEAKER_02: I I know exactly what it is.
- 53:42SPEAKER_02: It's a yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 53:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 53:44SPEAKER_03: Not scary movie, but movie about Yeah, it was so it was one of those things where it was like they were like, oh, it's two of the six writers of Scary Movie, and then you look into it, and it's the two guys that wrote a draft of of something about scary movies uh like a scary movie spoof.
- 53:59SPEAKER_03: But because the Wayans brothers were making scary movie at the time, they had to buy the script to that.
- 54:05SPEAKER_03: So it has nut they have nothing to do with it.
- 54:07SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 54:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and so they but they get credited as writers on it.
- 54:10SPEAKER_03: It's just the way that the system works.
- 54:13SPEAKER_03: So it's like so they've coasted off of that for all of these other movies.
- 54:18SPEAKER_02: That is um horrific, but genius, yeah.
- 54:21SPEAKER_03: So they did date movie, epic movies.
- 54:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you did date movie as well.
- 54:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 54:25SPEAKER_03: Um I can't remember the other ones.
- 54:27SPEAKER_05: All of those, all of them.
- 54:31SPEAKER_05: I mean robbing a living, basically.
- 54:33SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 54:34SPEAKER_05: Um Jack and Jill.
- 54:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay.
- 54:37SPEAKER_02: I'm not sure Jack is Jill.
- 54:38SPEAKER_03: The Adam Sandler movie, The Mummy Returns.
- 54:40SPEAKER_02: Mummy Returns.
- 54:41SPEAKER_02: I love the Mummy franchise.
- 54:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 54:43SPEAKER_02: I really love the mummy franchise.
- 54:44SPEAKER_03: Oh, so you have seen a rock movie?
- 54:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I have.
- 54:46SPEAKER_02: I've seen um The Scorpio King.
- 54:48SPEAKER_02: Scorpio King.
- 54:48SPEAKER_02: Scorpio King.
- 54:49SPEAKER_02: Just just really nasty and self-indulgent, the Scorpio King.
- 54:52SPEAKER_02: Really volatile, actually, to hang around with.
- 54:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:55SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, the Scorpion King.
- 54:58SPEAKER_02: Scorpio King's funny.
- 54:59SPEAKER_03: Scorpio King is a great one.
- 55:00SPEAKER_03: That's really funny.
- 55:01SPEAKER_03: That'd be so funny.
- 55:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I might make that as a sketch, actually.
- 55:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 55:07SPEAKER_03: But make it this is the rock being really self-indulgent.
- 55:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 55:11SPEAKER_03: I bet he is a Scorpio.
- 55:13SPEAKER_05: Let's find out.
- 55:14SPEAKER_05: Let's find out.
- 55:14SPEAKER_05: I bet he is a Scorpio.
- 55:20SPEAKER_05: A Taurus.
- 55:21SPEAKER_05: What does that mean?
- 55:22SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 55:25SPEAKER_03: Vin Diesel?
- 55:26SPEAKER_03: A cancer.
- 55:27SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, same.
- 55:28SPEAKER_02: Me and Vin, me and Vin.
- 55:29SPEAKER_02: Me and Vin.
- 55:30SPEAKER_03: Paul Walker Paul Walker, a Virgo.
- 55:32SPEAKER_02: Well, not anymore.
- 55:35SPEAKER_02: Oh sorry, I don't know if that changes when you Yeah, I don't know.
- 55:37SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 55:39SPEAKER_03: Someone said is the rock a Taurus.
- 55:41SPEAKER_03: Wait.
- 55:44SPEAKER_02: Sorry, I'll I'll be there ready for dinner in a minute.
- 55:47SPEAKER_02: I just need to find out.
- 55:49SPEAKER_02: I need a definitive answer.
- 55:50SPEAKER_03: He's really giving off Taurus I.
- 55:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 55:53SPEAKER_03: Is the rock a Tory?
- 55:55SPEAKER_03: Probably.
- 55:55SPEAKER_03: I mean, yeah, he's a Republican.
- 55:57SPEAKER_03: Is he really?
- 55:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 55:58SPEAKER_03: That's what I've heard, allegedly.
- 56:00SPEAKER_03: Good God.
- 56:02SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, so to f finish up on Jumanji, which um Yeah, so it's it's a classic.
- 56:11SPEAKER_03: You haven't seen the new ones then, you said.
- 56:13SPEAKER_03: What is it?
- 56:14SPEAKER_03: Is it a reason you just don't like it because it's become IP now?
- 56:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think so.
- 56:18SPEAKER_02: I just think uh it just feels like doing a remake for the sake of doing a remake to myself.
- 56:22SPEAKER_03: I will say very, very different to this.
- 56:25SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 56:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 56:26SPEAKER_03: So do you know anything about uh the new ones?
- 56:28SPEAKER_03: No.
- 56:28SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 56:29SPEAKER_02: Kevin Hart's in it.
- 56:29SPEAKER_03: Kevin Hart's in it as well, uh, Karen Gillen and is Kevin Hart in all of the films of The Rock.
- 56:36SPEAKER_03: I think he's in those two and then one other film.
- 56:39SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 56:39SPEAKER_03: Which is like another like buddy comedy.
- 56:41SPEAKER_03: Sure, buddy comedy.
- 56:43SPEAKER_03: Buddy, yeah, that's what it is.
- 56:44SPEAKER_03: I didn't I didn't know that phrase before, I like it.
- 56:46SPEAKER_03: But it's like buddy cop I want to say I wanted to say buddy cop comedy, but they're not that one of them's not a cop.
- 56:51SPEAKER_02: I guess I guess we've had a bit of a buddy comedy today, haven't we?
- 56:53SPEAKER_02: It's been really nice.
- 56:54SPEAKER_02: See, buddy's having a bloody good time.
- 56:56SPEAKER_02: Um okay, cool.
- 56:58SPEAKER_03: Well, maybe I'll watch I'll I'll watch one.
- 56:59SPEAKER_03: I'll watch one.
- 56:59SPEAKER_03: So yeah, so but the base the basically what happens is instead of him coming out, instead of the Robin Williams characters coming out of the game, four teenagers get sent into the video game.
- 57:12SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 57:12SPEAKER_03: And so the video game is the same thing, so it's the same world of what what Robin Williams has experienced experienced for all those years.
- 57:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 57:20SPEAKER_03: But it's it's like a video game.
- 57:22SPEAKER_03: And so the four teenagers get transferred into these four bodies, and like it's the rock, Kevin Hart and uh Jack Black and Karen Keelan.
- 57:31SPEAKER_03: And in I want to say the second one, I can't remember if he's in the first one.
- 57:35SPEAKER_03: In the second one, Nick Jonas is in it as one of the one of the kids.
- 57:37SPEAKER_03: I've got to watch it then.
- 57:38unknown: Yeah.
- 57:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 57:39SPEAKER_03: I've got to watch it, yeah, yeah.
- 57:40SPEAKER_03: He's inside the game and he's playing the character in the game.
- 57:43SPEAKER_02: Like, so like it's not a perfect rapper for the end of this episode that Nick Jonas gets to come back back and make an appearance.
- 57:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 57:49SPEAKER_02: Lovely.
- 57:49SPEAKER_02: It's great.
- 57:50SPEAKER_02: Really lovely.
- 57:50SPEAKER_03: He's actually really funny in it as well.
- 57:52SPEAKER_03: Oh, I'm gonna give it a watch.
- 57:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 57:54SPEAKER_03: I'm not just saying that.
- 57:57SPEAKER_02: Nick, if you're listening, which I know you're not.
- 57:59SPEAKER_03: Um Nick, please listen.
- 58:01SPEAKER_03: Please share.
- 58:04SPEAKER_03: Um Yeah, so other than other than uh what we've talked about with the Did you ever oh one thing I wanted to ask you, do you did you ever have the board game?
- 58:12SPEAKER_03: Because you can you know you can buy the board game.
- 58:14SPEAKER_02: No, I didn't have the board game.
- 58:15SPEAKER_03: I don't know if this is a recent thing.
- 58:17SPEAKER_02: I always wanted to.
- 58:18SPEAKER_03: I was obsessed with the idea of having it, yeah.
- 58:20SPEAKER_02: I really wanted to just you know, for it all to be real, basically, yeah.
- 58:23SPEAKER_03: I don't know if this is a recent thing, but I've seen it a lot, especially when the new ones came out.
- 58:27SPEAKER_03: I saw that you could see it in the shops everywhere.
- 58:29SPEAKER_03: It was like a board game version of it.
- 58:30SPEAKER_02: I wonder what it I bet it's just I bet it is just snakes and ladders essentially.
- 58:34SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, of course.
- 58:34SPEAKER_02: Uh I'd love to know.
- 58:35SPEAKER_02: Well what can you find out what how how do you play the um the board game?
- 58:40SPEAKER_03: 13 pounds in Argos.
- 58:42SPEAKER_05: Is it?
- 58:43SPEAKER_03: Oh, this is just snakes and ladders.
- 58:47SPEAKER_03: It looks exactly the same.
- 58:50SPEAKER_05: It's snakes and ladders.
- 58:51SPEAKER_02: It's goddamn snakes and ladders.
- 58:57SPEAKER_03: No wonder it's 13 pounds.
- 59:00SPEAKER_03: Although it's got a four and a half star rating.
- 59:03SPEAKER_03: Go on, let's play it.
- 59:04SPEAKER_03: Let's let's get it and play it on the podcast next time.
- 59:07SPEAKER_03: Let's do it.
- 59:08SPEAKER_02: I'm okay, I'm I'm down to play it.
- 59:10SPEAKER_03: I'm down to play it.
- 59:11SPEAKER_02: Or you can get a very real We'll be we'll be playing this in Madison Square Gardens.
- 59:15SPEAKER_02: Yes, yes.
- 59:16SPEAKER_02: This is mine and Yanis' next campaign on Jumanji.
- 59:18SPEAKER_03: It's us doing Nick Jonas.
- 59:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 59:23SPEAKER_02: I would love that.
- 59:24SPEAKER_02: Nick wouldn't.
- 59:25SPEAKER_03: No, no, exactly.
- 59:31SPEAKER_02: Um that's my defense of Jumanji, wouldn't you?
- 59:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's great.
- 59:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 59:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 59:34SPEAKER_03: I mean, you this is this may be the like the hot the the film out of the everything on this podcast that's ever been done.
- 59:42SPEAKER_03: There's like 80 something films that have been done.
- 59:44SPEAKER_03: This is the one film where I'm like, this not the one film, but this is the highest where I'm like, this is this did not need to be defended.
- 59:50SPEAKER_03: This is like such a great movie.
- 59:51SPEAKER_03: It's brilliant.
- 59:52SPEAKER_03: I really love this movie, and it's like such a nostalgic feel for me.
- 59:55SPEAKER_03: I I I have such fond memories of watching it con like so many times.
- 59:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna stick it on later.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_02: I really will.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you should.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_02: The VHS version, though.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_02: I'll take out the VHS version.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_02: Well, thank you very much for giving me the chance to just experience it all again.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, thank you.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_03: Thank you for doing that.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_03: Uh, just to to uh for the final part of the episode, we I want to talk to you about um a reverse of this, which is a movie that you uh that is well reviewed and well loved it by people and critics that you actually think is a bad movie.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_02: Um Citizen Kane, what a load of shit that is.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_02: Fucking hell.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_02: Well, that's a absolute snore fest.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_02: My god.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_02: It's just rosebud, rosebud, what's the fucking rosebud?
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_02: Give it a rest, mate.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_02: Give it a rest, it's already in trick, it's already in black and white, which makes it tricky anyway.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_02: And then and then nothing happens.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_02: Nothing happens.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_02: They tell you everything that happens at the start of the film, they do it, and then it proceeds to then happen at a slower, less interesting rate.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_02: So not only not only is it just filled with spoilers at the start, but then but then it's but then it's then it can it's spoiled at the start, and then you have to watch all of that that has been spoiled happen at a really boring pacing.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_02: Um, and it's just it's crap.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_02: It's crap.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_02: You keep thinking something's gonna happen.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's crap.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_02: I will say, and and it's oh look, it's but you know, it's so revolutionary for the techniques that it did.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_02: What a bit of a blurry bit here and there, bit blurry here and there.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_02: Wow, what a revolution.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_03: There's a scene, there's a there is a scene that's really impressive though, where the camera goes and there's a sign, and the sign opens as the camera's going through it, so you don't see the sign opening and it looks like it's going through the sign.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_03: I could do that, but it'd never been done before.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_03: I could do that.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_03: I mean you could now.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_03: I'm one of those, I'm really well stressed.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_02: I'm not one of those people that goes to an art gallery and sees modern art and goes, I could have done that.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_02: I do, I do understand, I do understand that for the first person to do that, to think to do something is is is a marvellous thing.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_02: Um so so on the on the whole, like it it it was groundbreaking for filmmaking thing, I will, I will concede.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_02: Um but but but but you know what, as just someone who had not watched it and watched it for the first time, age 32 quite recently, um, and was told it's one of the best films of all time, I just found it to be underwhelming.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_03: No, I I I think it's very underwhelming, especially I do think I do agree with you that I think like technique-wise, it's very good, but like as a as a movie itself, it's very boring.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_02: But like also, you know, oh you know what?
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_02: It's been a long day at work.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_02: Let's kick back and watch something with good technique.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_02: Fuck off.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_02: I wanna watch Jumanji.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_03: I mean, yeah.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_02: Would you rather watch Jumanji or Citizen Kane?
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_03: Oh, Jumanji, without a shadow of a doubt, but it also Jumanji also has good technique.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_02: I love it when you say a sentence that you think, don't think that's been said before.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_02: Don't think it's been said before in the history of mankind.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_02: What do you prefer?
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_02: Jumanji or Citizen Kane?
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_02: Great.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_02: Comments, what do you prefer?
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, what do you prefer?
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_02: Jamanji or Citizen Kane.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_02: There's only one right answer.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_02: There's only one right answer.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_02: Um, yes, that's my that's my hot pick.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_03: Great.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_02: Sorry, very passionate then.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_03: No, what I love about that as well is like people will often go, like, oh, you know, la la land, boyhood, you know, forest garb.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_03: You went you went right the way back.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_03: You're like Citizen Kane.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_03: Oh, but have you read the book?
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_03: Fuck off.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_03: I was not expecting that.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_03: I thought you were gonna go as far back as Star Wars.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_02: Isn't it terrible that the one film I can name not in the 90s, I've just slated?
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_03: No.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_03: You also said Star Wars, so you got that.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_02: Um well, yeah.
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_02: Thanks for having me.
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, thanks so much for coming on.

- 1:03:41SPEAKER_03: This has been fantastic.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it really has.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_03: How can uh how can everyone find you and like have you got anything you want to promote?
