- 0:00Speaker 1: Coming up on this week's episode of Hip Hop Now podcast,
- 0:05Speaker 1: hot Boys Reunion on stage at Little Louisiana Festival, amongst
- 0:12Speaker 1: other things, My thoughts on a new album by apps
- 0:16Speaker 1: Sol sol Berger, and Grammy nominations are here. Let the
- 0:23Speaker 1: snub talk begin. Let's do it. Welcome to jip Hop
- 0:32Speaker 1: Now Podcast. Shit you from the future. You know what
- 0:37Speaker 1: to do. Get your ass out of my past life,
- 0:42Speaker 1: so disrespect to leg like hip hop is say to
- 0:46Speaker 1: today's get right into the business. What up, y'all? I
- 0:51Speaker 1: am your host Vegas and this is hip Hop Now
- 0:54Speaker 1: podcasting podcast specifically designed to keep you caught up on
- 0:59Speaker 1: all things hip music and culture that happened throughout the week.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Big shout out to all the supporters of the podcast,
- 1:08Speaker 1: and I must make a quick announcement. The Patreon account
- 1:13Speaker 1: is going to be on pause for now. I appreciate
- 1:15Speaker 1: everybody past and present that's supported, but the Patreon account
- 1:20Speaker 1: has to be on pause for the moment. But there
- 1:24Speaker 1: are other ways for you to contribute. Donate support this
- 1:30Speaker 1: podcast and its production because that's really where the money
- 1:33Speaker 1: goes into. For example, it costs money to use these
- 1:38Speaker 1: streaming apps to record the podcast right It costs money
- 1:42Speaker 1: to keep the equipment up, to get newer equipment to
- 1:46Speaker 1: you know, whether it's better cameras or lighting or whatever
- 1:49Speaker 1: it may be. So I've used those funds and that
- 1:53Speaker 1: support for people who listen to this podcast and watch
- 1:57Speaker 1: this podcast in the past, and i'veously for things to grow,
- 2:02Speaker 1: for there to be more, for it to be more
- 2:04Speaker 1: than a one man show. That kind of support is
- 2:10Speaker 1: definitely appreciated and needed for this podcast. So one of
- 2:15Speaker 1: the things we're doing, and probably the main thing we're
- 2:17Speaker 1: doing instead of Patreon, it's just basic cash app. So
- 2:22Speaker 1: whether you want to do a one time donation to
- 2:25Speaker 1: the podcast, you know, maybe you want to pop in
- 2:29Speaker 1: every now and again and donate, you can hit me
- 2:31Speaker 1: up on a cash app at Dallas sign Vegas World,
- 2:34Speaker 1: I Inc. Seventy seven. I probably will put an image
- 2:41Speaker 1: on the screen real quick, hold up, let me I
- 2:45Speaker 1: just realized my background is completely different. This is the
- 2:48Speaker 1: wrong background. There we go. But I'll probably put an
- 2:54Speaker 1: image with that on the on the video version QR
- 3:01Speaker 1: code or something like that where people can scan and donate.
- 3:04Speaker 1: So there you have it. But also just as important,
- 3:09Speaker 1: big shout out to all the people who have now
- 3:11Speaker 1: joined hip Hop Now Podcast via YouTube. Again, at one
- 3:16Speaker 1: point we were trying to reach five hundred. We hit
- 3:19Speaker 1: the five hundred, thank you. Now we're closing in on
- 3:24Speaker 1: seven hundred, so we're trying to get to one thousand.
- 3:27Speaker 1: A thousand opens up more opportunity, opportunities within the YouTube landscape. Right,
- 3:34Speaker 1: five hundred help us get within the algorithm, you know
- 3:38Speaker 1: what I'm saying. A thousand will help us a little
- 3:41Speaker 1: bit more. And again, what's so easy but difficult about
- 3:47Speaker 1: this process? It's the simple fact that there are a
- 3:49Speaker 1: whole bunch of hip hop heads who look for content
- 3:53Speaker 1: just like this who won't be exposed to it. Honestly,
- 4:00Speaker 1: if I don't have a certain amount of hours recorded
- 4:03Speaker 1: as far as shows, which is, that's no problem whatsoever.
- 4:06Speaker 1: But more importantly, a certain level of engagement from you,
- 4:12Speaker 1: that meaning subscribing, liking comments, sharing posts, stuff like that.
- 4:19Speaker 1: So the more you get into this show, you know
- 4:22Speaker 1: what I'm saying, the more you should make sure other
- 4:25Speaker 1: people are exposed to it so that we can grow
- 4:28Speaker 1: the base, and therefore it will become like night and day. Because,
- 4:32Speaker 1: to be honest, this podcast was established specifically to not
- 4:36Speaker 1: do the same things that all the other podcasts do.
- 4:40Speaker 1: That's why you really never see interviews, even though there's
- 4:44Speaker 1: an interview coming up very soon with the author of
- 4:48Speaker 1: High and Rising. It's the book about Daylight Soul that
- 4:51Speaker 1: will be dropping in November. In the process of booking
- 4:55Speaker 1: that interview, or have it ready to go either the
- 4:59Speaker 1: week the book drops or after, so stay tuned for that. Uh,
- 5:04Speaker 1: let's get right into it, you know. Big shout out
- 5:06Speaker 1: to hip Hop DX dot com, All hip hop dot
- 5:09Speaker 1: com and brosire for heads in a couple of places
- 5:11Speaker 1: where I'm getting some of these stories from. Let's get
- 5:13Speaker 1: ring to business though now so earlier in the week
- 5:24Speaker 1: or maybe last weekend something like that. But Lil Wayne
- 5:28Speaker 1: had his Lil Wayne Liluisiana Festival, right. It was really
- 5:36Speaker 1: like a celebration of Lil Wayne. And it was the
- 5:39Speaker 1: first time in a very long time. You saw the
- 5:42Speaker 1: hot boys on stage, right BG obviously Wayne, you know
- 5:48Speaker 1: what I'm saying. Turk who turks my guy? Uh turk
- 5:53Speaker 1: Manny Fresh is there? Juvenile obviously Birdman performing at hit
- 6:01Speaker 1: Lil Wayne performed as well. He was given the key
- 6:04Speaker 1: to the City in New Orleans, all that good stuff,
- 6:08Speaker 1: you know, and he even gave a speech about the
- 6:10Speaker 1: Super Bowl saying it was taken from him or snatched
- 6:17Speaker 1: away something a term to that effect. So here are
- 6:22Speaker 1: my thoughts on what I heard and saw. I think
- 6:27Speaker 1: Lil Wayne should definitely be celebrated in more than just
- 6:32Speaker 1: New Orleans. Right. He is a legend in the game
- 6:35Speaker 1: when you look at his history, the music, the features,
- 6:39Speaker 1: the mixtapes, the bars, the transitions and styles when he
- 6:43Speaker 1: started the albums, the Carter series, like he is certified
- 6:50Speaker 1: to be in the Hip Hop Hall of Fame without
- 6:53Speaker 1: of doubt. Right. Seeing the Hot Boys on stage is
- 6:57Speaker 1: a beautiful thing. Man. I have a playlist I made
- 7:01Speaker 1: years ago before there were streaming services and they would
- 7:04Speaker 1: make playlists for you or you can make playlists. I
- 7:07Speaker 1: made it based off the music I had just celebrating
- 7:11Speaker 1: the Hot Boys. And every time I play that joint
- 7:13Speaker 1: and I'm like wow, and this is no card and stuff, right,
- 7:16Speaker 1: just the early cash Money days, and I just be like, wow, man,
- 7:20Speaker 1: Cash Money had a serious run back then, like it's
- 7:25Speaker 1: all hits, literally all hits on this joint and seeing that.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Seeing the reunion was dope to see because it's like,
- 7:38Speaker 1: why with the Hot Boys, we I mean, we know
- 7:41Speaker 1: why a lot of people were locked up and stuff
- 7:42Speaker 1: like that, but you know, kind of we kind of
- 7:45Speaker 1: got robbed from having the hot boys pop in the
- 7:50Speaker 1: way Wou Tang does. Right, Like, if Ghosts was the
- 7:54Speaker 1: one who was mainly popping at the time, that didn't
- 7:58Speaker 1: mean you weren't gonna hand me, that didn't mean you
- 8:01Speaker 1: weren't going to hear from Gizzo inspected that, right, And
- 8:04Speaker 1: I feel like with the Carter series and low Wayne's career,
- 8:09Speaker 1: at some point it was just him and you know,
- 8:12Speaker 1: again BG was locked up and there was situations, but
- 8:15Speaker 1: it was just sad that we couldn't get you know,
- 8:18Speaker 1: maybe Beg's on Carter too, unless he is, and I
- 8:23Speaker 1: don't remember, but you know what I mean, just a legacy.
- 8:26Speaker 1: So it was great to see them. The Key to
- 8:29Speaker 1: the City I got, I got a hope. I'm not
- 8:31Speaker 1: even gonna hold job. The Key to the City felt
- 8:34Speaker 1: so much like a Constellation prize for not getting the
- 8:38Speaker 1: super Bowl and all the things him and his comrades
- 8:42Speaker 1: had to say about the super Bowl being in New
- 8:46Speaker 1: Orleans and the city and you know, feeling snubbed by
- 8:50Speaker 1: the city in some ways because why didn't he have
- 8:53Speaker 1: a key to the city anyway already like he'd been
- 9:00Speaker 1: he'd been so successful that he could have got a key.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Birdman could have got a key like they had it.
- 9:08Speaker 1: I think master P has a key. I don't know,
- 9:12Speaker 1: but you would think that that would have already happened
- 9:15Speaker 1: at some point. Apparently it didn't, and it happened here
- 9:20Speaker 1: also master P said like February sixth or eight, something
- 9:24Speaker 1: like that would be you know, officially in New Orleans
- 9:30Speaker 1: Lil Wayne Day, which is cool, but again, could have
- 9:34Speaker 1: did that a long time ago. You didn't have to
- 9:36Speaker 1: wait to try to make the statement about how he
- 9:39Speaker 1: should be the performer and the super Bowl this year,
- 9:41Speaker 1: for those who don't know, the performer and the super
- 9:44Speaker 1: Bowl will be Kendrick Lamar. And there was a whole
- 9:47Speaker 1: thing that happened with that. As far as really the
- 9:50Speaker 1: cash money young money side, Drake didn't say anything and
- 9:54Speaker 1: he wasn't there. He meanwhile, he was at the Raptors
- 9:57Speaker 1: game trying to mean mug people and no one's afraid,
- 10:02Speaker 1: literally no one. But the speech that Lil Wayne gave
- 10:11Speaker 1: regarding the super Bowl halftime performance being snatched away or
- 10:17Speaker 1: whatever he said taken from him, which wasn't the terminology
- 10:21Speaker 1: he used initially, initially when he put out that sappy
- 10:27Speaker 1: video looking sad, and I'm just gonna be quite frank
- 10:29Speaker 1: with y'all looking like a junkie every time I see him.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Let's just be real, it is what it is. We
- 10:36Speaker 1: would like him to not be a junkie, we would
- 10:40Speaker 1: like him to get off of that stuff. But he's
- 10:42Speaker 1: clearly been struggling for years, and it shows he looks
- 10:47Speaker 1: older than the people who are older than him. And
- 10:50Speaker 1: I kind of feel like when I saw that original video, Lol,
- 10:54Speaker 1: Wayne was saying mainly like he almost set itself up
- 10:59Speaker 1: to feel bad about not getting it because he was
- 11:02Speaker 1: so convinced he was gonna get it. And he kept saying,
- 11:06Speaker 1: I work my ass if I work my ass off,
- 11:08Speaker 1: And I'm like, are you just talking about your whole career,
- 11:11Speaker 1: because of course yes you did, But if you're talking
- 11:14Speaker 1: about recently, well, all you got to do is watch
- 11:17Speaker 1: some of the performance and it's pretty terrible. And I'm
- 11:20Speaker 1: talking about Lil Wayne's performance. I watched WrestleMania this year.
- 11:26Speaker 1: I was like, oh, Lil Wayne performing, Finally somebody who
- 11:29Speaker 1: I don't feel like I have to go and wash
- 11:32Speaker 1: clothes until the next match starts. So I was waiting
- 11:35Speaker 1: for a little waiting to come out. And when it
- 11:37Speaker 1: came out, it was a shortened and expected set. And
- 11:42Speaker 1: I think it was that way because he was completely terrible.
- 11:45Speaker 1: And who knows, he might have been high and they
- 11:47Speaker 1: might have been like, yo, dog, give you a shout
- 11:49Speaker 1: out and get the hell off the stage. I don't know.
- 11:53Speaker 1: I don't know what it was, but that performance was
- 11:55Speaker 1: terrible and from what I saw, I didn't watch the
- 11:59Speaker 1: whole thing. From what I saw from the Little Louisiana Festival,
- 12:05Speaker 1: he was pretty terrible. I could not have imagined that
- 12:10Speaker 1: at the super Bowl with the world watching that that
- 12:14Speaker 1: would have been an embarrassment for him. That would have
- 12:17Speaker 1: been bad for somebody who clearly spent a lot of
- 12:21Speaker 1: time doing drugs. That might have sent him to a
- 12:24Speaker 1: place right to get that moment. And you know what's
- 12:29Speaker 1: going to happen. Social media is going to roast him.
- 12:32Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. They've already roasted him for
- 12:34Speaker 1: this because they were looking like that's who was supposed
- 12:37Speaker 1: to perform at the So I said all that to
- 12:41Speaker 1: say this, I think he needed to get off of
- 12:44Speaker 1: it right, You got a new album on the way,
- 12:47Speaker 1: You got the hometown hero, look out the batteries in
- 12:52Speaker 1: your back, go forward. Super Bowl can happen anywhere because
- 12:57Speaker 1: guess what, every Super Bowl halftime performing is not performing
- 13:03Speaker 1: in their hometown the majority of the time they are not,
- 13:07Speaker 1: like literally the majority of the time they are not
- 13:10Speaker 1: performing in their hometown. So let's just stop with that there,
- 13:15Speaker 1: because every time we have moved on here, they come
- 13:20Speaker 1: bringing it up, snatched away from me. The dog, get
- 13:25Speaker 1: over it. You're okay, you have so many more accolades.
- 13:31Speaker 1: You would love to do the super Bowl. It's been
- 13:33Speaker 1: to New Orleans a couple of times and it was
- 13:36Speaker 1: not y'all. And I don't think you should feel like
- 13:39Speaker 1: it should be y'all now just because you just want
- 13:41Speaker 1: to point at jay Z. He's taking jay Z out
- 13:44Speaker 1: of the equation. It wasn't saying nothing before, and don't
- 13:46Speaker 1: say naw okay now. It would be dope one year
- 13:51Speaker 1: and maybe it's when it does come back to New Orleans.
- 13:55Speaker 1: To have cash, money and no limit, just tear it down.
- 13:59Speaker 1: I would love that. But Lil Wayne got to get
- 14:02Speaker 1: itself together because I've seen him perform in the past
- 14:07Speaker 1: and it was way better and he's not that old
- 14:10Speaker 1: to not do the things he used to do. He
- 14:13Speaker 1: did was walk fast across the stage like I'm saying,
- 14:16Speaker 1: and he was doing that then it just he sound bad.
- 14:21Speaker 1: So I don't know. What did you think about Lil
- 14:25Speaker 1: Wayne's performance at the Little Louisiana Festival. Am I'm off base,
- 14:32Speaker 1: you know with his feelings about it? Should he move
- 14:35Speaker 1: on at this point because it's not going to change.
- 14:39Speaker 1: We'll see. Do you feel like Kendrick should invite him?
- 14:42Speaker 1: I don't know. I feel like they've been very unprofessional.
- 14:45Speaker 1: I'm petty like that, but maybe Kendrick is, so we'll see.
- 14:52Speaker 1: So recently, Absol dropped a brand new project, ab Soul
- 14:57Speaker 1: of TD. When Kendrick Leffett was I'm like, oh, there's
- 15:00Speaker 1: no one else there. No, there's plenty of other people there,
- 15:03Speaker 1: you just probably don't know them. But app Soul is
- 15:06Speaker 1: one of the Supreme Spiders, original Spiders from TD. If
- 15:12Speaker 1: you don't know who I'm talking about, if you watch
- 15:15Speaker 1: Kendrick's pop out concert when he did six sixteen in
- 15:18Speaker 1: La Dude came out with shades on and Ken you
- 15:23Speaker 1: was just spitting while he was sitting there with him,
- 15:25Speaker 1: like Bobbin that's Apps. So Appsol is dumb nice He's
- 15:29Speaker 1: put out a dumb bunch of projects, like I think,
- 15:32Speaker 1: not last year, but maybe the year before. He had
- 15:34Speaker 1: the joint called Herbert. He has a decent to solid catalog,
- 15:41Speaker 1: but I believe he's one of the most overlooked Mcason
- 15:45Speaker 1: tde So. He released a new album this shire called
- 15:49Speaker 1: sol Berger, dedicated to a friend who passed away. The
- 15:54Speaker 1: album itself is about fifteen songs. I think one of
- 15:58Speaker 1: them is get to be Honest. No, actually it's a song.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Fifteen songs clocking in around fifty four minutes in length,
- 16:08Speaker 1: which is as far as I'm willing to go when
- 16:11Speaker 1: it comes to albums today. A couple of the features
- 16:15Speaker 1: on this album include Jason Martin, Vince Stables, Doshi who
- 16:21Speaker 1: Else on a TDD, Dallas Son, Jed or Jid whatever,
- 16:27Speaker 1: Loupe Fiasco, and a couple of other people know Kendrick
- 16:30Speaker 1: give you Wondering. Y'all know how it goes when I
- 16:35Speaker 1: review albums three listens. I gave it the good three
- 16:39Speaker 1: listens versus impressions. Second is to really dig deep into
- 16:44Speaker 1: the lyrics. The beats, the concepts, how it all comes together,
- 16:47Speaker 1: and my third listen is to confirm my thoughts and
- 16:52Speaker 1: my thoughts really quick. It's a good album. Is it
- 16:57Speaker 1: top five of the year? I don't think so. Is
- 17:02Speaker 1: it good enough to be best of the year. I
- 17:05Speaker 1: could see it making a couple of people's best of
- 17:07Speaker 1: the years, But I will have to say I was
- 17:11Speaker 1: a little underwhelmed. And this is coming from a person
- 17:16Speaker 1: who's listened to multiple projects from the Dudes, and I
- 17:20Speaker 1: have my favorites, but I was a little underwhelmed because
- 17:25Speaker 1: I guess I expected a little bit more from it.
- 17:31Speaker 1: It felt initially like this was going to have a
- 17:35Speaker 1: concept or a theme, and it kind of does, but
- 17:40Speaker 1: it kind of doesn't. Also at the same time, it's
- 17:43Speaker 1: like one of those things where you know this is
- 17:46Speaker 1: dedicated to a homie, and you hear the skitch, you
- 17:49Speaker 1: hear the mentions, but they're not woven within every track
- 17:55Speaker 1: in some way to complete a theme of this album, right,
- 18:00Speaker 1: It's just kind of like that's the overall theme. But
- 18:02Speaker 1: I'm gonna have my spit record, I'm gonna have my
- 18:05Speaker 1: talk to the Late, oh my Bars record. For those
- 18:07Speaker 1: who don't know my song for the ladies, like you know,
- 18:12Speaker 1: my neighborhoods joints a couple of storytellers. So when it
- 18:15Speaker 1: comes to artistry, yes, it is one of the best
- 18:18Speaker 1: of this year because most of the TV artists are
- 18:24Speaker 1: not thin. Later when it comes to the subject matter
- 18:27Speaker 1: and the things they like to talk about, and Apso
- 18:30Speaker 1: has a lot of uh, I don't want to say demons,
- 18:36Speaker 1: but you know what I mean, Like, he has a
- 18:38Speaker 1: lot of personal issues that he was able to articulate
- 18:43Speaker 1: on numerous songs, and I felt like, you know, that
- 18:46Speaker 1: was dope. But similar to the Rhapsody thing, it's a
- 18:50Speaker 1: very complicated situation. Rhapsody's album is very good. It doesn't
- 19:00Speaker 1: keep my attention and it's tough to say that when
- 19:04Speaker 1: someone makes such a personal album, and I feel like
- 19:08Speaker 1: with Abs Soul, I hear him when he says certain
- 19:12Speaker 1: things and I'm locked in. And then there are other
- 19:15Speaker 1: times the overall tone of the album feels almost somber,
- 19:21Speaker 1: even when the beats are upbeat, and I don't think
- 19:27Speaker 1: I liked how it was making me feel. And I
- 19:30Speaker 1: don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, right,
- 19:33Speaker 1: Like maybe it's a situational thing. Right, I was listening
- 19:37Speaker 1: in the gym. Maybe listening in the gym where I'm
- 19:40Speaker 1: lifting weights and trying to get pumped up is one
- 19:43Speaker 1: thing for an album like Buster or somebody else. And
- 19:49Speaker 1: not to say that I haven't listened to introspective albums
- 19:52Speaker 1: in the gym, but sometimes the music isn't hitten enough
- 19:58Speaker 1: to keep my attention, Like I have to remember, Oh,
- 20:02Speaker 1: you're supposed to be listening to what he's saying instead
- 20:04Speaker 1: of it becoming background music. So I know that sounds
- 20:08Speaker 1: really negative, but again, I think if you're an absolute fan,
- 20:14Speaker 1: I don't think you'll be disappointed at all. I'm not disappointed,
- 20:19Speaker 1: but I think if you had an expectation of something crazy,
- 20:23Speaker 1: because I feel like with him, it's almost as if
- 20:28Speaker 1: he has to impress as if it's the first time
- 20:31Speaker 1: every time. Just because he's one of the lesser known
- 20:35Speaker 1: within TDE, he doesn't need to give anybody a reason
- 20:40Speaker 1: to feel man on his music right, because then they
- 20:44Speaker 1: might not come back. So I'm curious to see how
- 20:48Speaker 1: others feel about it, but I know, for me giving
- 20:51Speaker 1: it the three listens, it's one of those albums where
- 20:55Speaker 1: I'm probably gravitating towards certain songs, but I'm not in
- 21:00Speaker 1: love with the album as a whole. So those are
- 21:03Speaker 1: my thoughts. Have you heard Absloe's brand new album, sold Berger.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Leave your comments in a comments section below on YouTube.
- 21:11Speaker 1: I'll read them and I'll comment or like it or
- 21:14Speaker 1: whatever you say. Just don't say nothing crazy, Okay, just
- 21:17Speaker 1: don't say nothing crazy. And lastly, so it is this season, man.
- 21:26Speaker 1: The Grammy nominations are now officially here. I think Beyonce
- 21:31Speaker 1: has the most nominations, probably of all time. As a
- 21:35Speaker 1: result of these nominations coming out, I feel like, I
- 21:41Speaker 1: know we're gonna talk about hip hop, but I just
- 21:42Speaker 1: gotta say this. I kind of feel like that's more
- 21:47Speaker 1: of a consolation prize because the Country Music Awards did
- 21:53Speaker 1: not acknownce her at all, and she put out a
- 21:55Speaker 1: country album, so it's more like, well, you won't acknowledge it,
- 21:59Speaker 1: but we will. So there's that butt on the hip
- 22:03Speaker 1: hop side and Andre three Stacks and the Flute album
- 22:08Speaker 1: has been nominated not in hip hop, I don't know.
- 22:10Speaker 1: I have a look at I hope not. But he
- 22:13Speaker 1: does have a Grammy nome, which is insane to think about.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Here's some information though. This is on hip hop dx
- 22:22Speaker 1: dot com. The Recording Academy unveiled the eagerly anticipated nominations
- 22:27Speaker 1: on Friday, November eighth, ahead of the sixty seventh annual
- 22:31Speaker 1: award ceremony, which takes place on February second at Los
- 22:36Speaker 1: Angeles Crypto dot com Arena. Beyonce leads all artists with
- 22:42Speaker 1: eleven nominations thanks to her chart topping Cowboy Carter album
- 22:48Speaker 1: Material from, which appears in multiple categories across different genres.
- 22:54Speaker 1: That's crazy within itself as expected. Kendrick Lamar, who also
- 22:59Speaker 1: makes a big splash thanks to his dominant this song
- 23:03Speaker 1: against Drake If Not Like Us, receiving five nonvein nations Wow,
- 23:10Speaker 1: including the Covenant Song of the Year and Record of
- 23:14Speaker 1: the Year category. I told y'all he walking away with
- 23:19Speaker 1: either both or one of them, because I get the feeling,
- 23:23Speaker 1: you know, there's Shaboozi and then there's the million dollar
- 23:28Speaker 1: Baby joint that are like tough competition for not Like Us,
- 23:34Speaker 1: Not Like Us as getting one of those awards. It
- 23:38Speaker 1: has to. It's not even about the disrecord. It's about
- 23:43Speaker 1: the reaction to the disrecord, the fact that it stayed
- 23:46Speaker 1: on the chart for so long, right along with euphoria,
- 23:51Speaker 1: but also it was a social media windstormman like this
- 23:58Speaker 1: every version people made video like there's no way it
- 24:02Speaker 1: doesn't win one of the records of the year's Songs
- 24:05Speaker 1: of the Year, which I'm kind of like, what's the difference?
- 24:07Speaker 1: But whatever, even though Songs of the Year may lean
- 24:13Speaker 1: more towards the lyrics, which is crazy because of what
- 24:17Speaker 1: he's talking about. We'll see. But let's get into wild
- 24:23Speaker 1: hip hop d X gotta I gotta chill with the ads.
- 24:26Speaker 1: I get it, it's how you pay bills. But I
- 24:28Speaker 1: can barely scroll, like literally can barely scroll. All right,
- 24:32Speaker 1: So let's go through the nominations. I'm gonna make predictions
- 24:36Speaker 1: for each category like we do every year. And then also,
- 24:39Speaker 1: I am not going to watch the awards ceremony unless
- 24:43Speaker 1: Kendrick is gonna perform, not like us, I gotta see that.
- 24:46Speaker 1: I'm sorry, but I might not watch it. These joints
- 24:48Speaker 1: are too long nowadays. I always catch the highlights in
- 24:52Speaker 1: the morning. No harm No Five Best rap oulbum, Wow,
- 24:59Speaker 1: JCole Mike delete later. I guess he didn't delete it
- 25:03Speaker 1: Common and Pete Rock the auditorial value One shout out
- 25:06Speaker 1: to Pete Rock Congratulations, Joshi Wow, Alligator Bites, Never Heal, Eminem,
- 25:13Speaker 1: the Death of Slim Shady kind of thought that would happen,
- 25:16Speaker 1: and Future and metro Booming. We don't trust you man.
- 25:20Speaker 1: I love those two albums. I don't know what it
- 25:22Speaker 1: is like. I don't hate Drake. I just love the
- 25:26Speaker 1: approach to like outside the battle, like Future metro Booming
- 25:30Speaker 1: and what they were doing with it. I think that's
- 25:33Speaker 1: what I like about it. Out of that best rap category,
- 25:38Speaker 1: who should win? Who should win? It's kind you talk
- 25:45Speaker 1: about bringing hip hop? That would be it? Who will win?
- 25:52Speaker 1: It might be Future and metro Booming. I think so.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Maybe Best Rap song Rhapsody featuring Hip Boy asked Royds
- 26:01Speaker 1: that song was though Kanye West and Todd Dallasson featuring
- 26:05Speaker 1: Rich Kid and Playboycarti Carnival, Future and metro Booming featuring
- 26:11Speaker 1: Kendrick Lamar. Like that Kendrick Lamar not like us in
- 26:15Speaker 1: glowreala Yeah, Glow? Who will win Best Rap song? Not
- 26:22Speaker 1: like us? Has to win? It's better than like that,
- 26:25Speaker 1: and it literally is who might win? Not like Us?
- 26:30Speaker 1: By Kendrick Lamar. It's better that I just said that, right, Okay,
- 26:34Speaker 1: that's who she win. If this whole battle didn't even
- 26:39Speaker 1: go down like that, and Not Like Us wasn't in
- 26:42Speaker 1: this category, I think Glowrilla winning would be dope because
- 26:48Speaker 1: I don't have her album, but I really like her songs,
- 26:53Speaker 1: and I think it's because I like her personality, you
- 26:56Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, Like, I feel like she just
- 26:57Speaker 1: says what she feels and that's it. It's not like,
- 27:01Speaker 1: let me say the rhetoric thing like she's really there's
- 27:04Speaker 1: some level of thoughts. No, she's not a barking but
- 27:08Speaker 1: a lot of people like that song. So I think
- 27:11Speaker 1: if Not Like Us wasn't in this category, Glowriller would
- 27:15Speaker 1: win Best Rap Performance. Cardi B Enough Common and Pete
- 27:20Speaker 1: Rock feature in pastinoose When the Sun Shines Again, Doshi Nissan, Ultima,
- 27:26Speaker 1: Eminem Houdini, Future Metro Booming featuring Kendrick Lamar like that
- 27:32Speaker 1: glow Rilla, Yeah, Glow Kendrick Lamar, not like Us? Go ahead,
- 27:36Speaker 1: give it to Kendrick Aus or Not Like Us. That's
- 27:38Speaker 1: what I think. Who should get it? But who will
- 27:42Speaker 1: get it? I think maybe like that would take this
- 27:47Speaker 1: category to be honest. Best Melodic Rap Performance. Wait, so
- 27:54Speaker 1: this is a sing song the people on he Okay,
- 27:57Speaker 1: I guess so, I don't even know this person's thing.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Jordan A. Tucci featuring Klanni. Name of the song is Klani,
- 28:05Speaker 1: Beyonce featuring Linda Martel and Shaboozi Spaghetti, Future and metro
- 28:10Speaker 1: Booming featuring in the Weekend. We still don't trust you,
- 28:13Speaker 1: Lotto Big Mama Man, I hate that song and Rhapsody
- 28:18Speaker 1: featured at Erika Badu three am. Rhapsody is the main
- 28:22Speaker 1: state in the Grammy's Good Looking Out People who whatever?
- 28:28Speaker 1: Who should win? We still don't trust you, y'all? I
- 28:33Speaker 1: love that song and I'm sorry Future, metro Booming featuring
- 28:38Speaker 1: the Weekend I love that song. Who will probably win
- 28:41Speaker 1: is probably Beyonce. I'm sorry. She probably Album of the
- 28:47Speaker 1: It's overall Andre What Andre three thousand, the Blue Sun
- 28:53Speaker 1: Album of the Year nomination incredible, beyond say he Ain't
- 29:00Speaker 1: going uh, Beyonce, Cowboy Carter Sabrina Carpenter, The Short and
- 29:05Speaker 1: Sweet Charlie, whoever this person's name is? With Bratt Jacob
- 29:10Speaker 1: Collier with was this the Jesse just volume for whatever?
- 29:15Speaker 1: Billy Eilish hit me Hard and Soft. Wow, that's that's
- 29:19Speaker 1: the name. Of hurts the pause, uh chapel, it's just
- 29:23Speaker 1: all but being on hip hop, and then it's again
- 29:25Speaker 1: on out of this song of the Yeah, let's see
- 29:29Speaker 1: song of the Year. Obviously, kendrickson there. Nothing else hip hop.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Record of the Year. Kendrick not like Us is in there.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Nothing else hip hop. Well, let's look real quick because
- 29:41Speaker 1: of what I said earlier. Shaboozie's here with the bar
- 29:45Speaker 1: song Wow. Million Dollar Baby's not here. Beyonce's here with
- 29:53Speaker 1: Texas holding So this might come down. Song of the
- 29:57Speaker 1: Year might come down to Kendrick and Shaboozi unless they
- 30:02Speaker 1: give it to Beyonce. Record of the Year. The Beatles
- 30:05Speaker 1: are in here, which is nuts. Beyonce, Texas holding his
- 30:09Speaker 1: hair again, Kendrick Gamar's head again. No Million Dollar Baby, Man,
- 30:14Speaker 1: I thought that's almost popular. I guess I was wrong.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Best New Artists. I think though she should win that.
- 30:22Speaker 1: I think she's dope R and B R and B,
- 30:25Speaker 1: R and B. I think that's mostly it for hip hop.
- 30:31Speaker 1: There are a lot of other categories up here where
- 30:35Speaker 1: hip hop kind of falls in there in some ways.
- 30:39Speaker 1: Beyonce's all over this list, like they've mentioned, literally all
- 30:43Speaker 1: over here. Best alternative jazz album. Wow, I'm not even
- 30:48Speaker 1: gonna read that. I think Kean Harris whoul Win that
- 30:53Speaker 1: I think that's it for hip hop. Yeah, it feels
- 30:58Speaker 1: like it like hip hop. It's a sprinkled hair and there.
- 31:02Speaker 1: It's crazy that a disc record has five nominations, a
- 31:06Speaker 1: dis record about one of the biggest artists in the
- 31:11Speaker 1: industry today even now still and how that was celebrated
- 31:18Speaker 1: the Shaboozie Joy that song, I don't like that song, Like,
- 31:22Speaker 1: I don't think it's good at all. Like I appreciate
- 31:26Speaker 1: it being a brother and I appreciate his success, but
- 31:31Speaker 1: I don't think it's a good song. I think it's
- 31:34Speaker 1: a very catchy song because it borrows from a familiar
- 31:39Speaker 1: hip hop record. But Million Dollar Baby, I am. I'm
- 31:44Speaker 1: shocked that song was really good. I really like it
- 31:48Speaker 1: felt like put it this way, y'all, some of us
- 31:52Speaker 1: be outside during the summer, you know what I'm saying.
- 31:54Speaker 1: I like to go to the beach. We ain't do
- 31:56Speaker 1: a bunch of crazy stuff. We did some things, but
- 31:59Speaker 1: I like between not like us and Million Dollar Baby
- 32:04Speaker 1: on the radio in cars, you know what I'm saying.
- 32:08Speaker 1: On social media, Like I had to learn about Shaboozi, right,
- 32:14Speaker 1: Obviously it's not in my lane anyway, so that's why
- 32:18Speaker 1: I wouldn't see a friend talking about it and blah
- 32:20Speaker 1: blah blah. But those other two I just knew it
- 32:23Speaker 1: and obviously Beyonce. So I don't know, man, the Grammys
- 32:29Speaker 1: of the Grammys, do you think they got the Album
- 32:31Speaker 1: of the Year category? Right? I think in some ways
- 32:38Speaker 1: just got to go to Common and Pete Rock, man,
- 32:40Speaker 1: I hope so, like I think Future and Metro Booming
- 32:44Speaker 1: might get it just because of the commercial success. But
- 32:49Speaker 1: what the buzz and what Common and Pete Rock were
- 32:53Speaker 1: able to establish with something that was a pure boom
- 32:59Speaker 1: back celebration of hip hop. Coming together between a producer
- 33:05Speaker 1: and Pauls a producer, a legendary producer, a legendary hip
- 33:10Speaker 1: hop artist to make something that sounds fresh and new
- 33:14Speaker 1: but pays homage to hip hop was so dope. And
- 33:18Speaker 1: there was so much hype around that album on social
- 33:22Speaker 1: media and so many people talking about it. It's going
- 33:24Speaker 1: to be in a lot of people's top five of
- 33:28Speaker 1: the year, for sure, But I just kind of I
- 33:33Speaker 1: think that whole battle it handled a good portion of
- 33:41Speaker 1: this year, Like from what April May through to maybe September.
- 33:50Speaker 1: You know, we finally was starting to shed some of that,
- 33:53Speaker 1: you know, from that battle, and it didn't matter whether
- 33:56Speaker 1: it was future metro booming making their albums Kendrick five
- 34:01Speaker 1: pag or four packup disc records for Drake. I am
- 34:05Speaker 1: surprised that the j cole now Mike delete later is
- 34:09Speaker 1: It's not a bad project. That was just a bad
- 34:12Speaker 1: disc record that he put on there that he eventually
- 34:15Speaker 1: took off, which was the seven minute Drill. I don't
- 34:19Speaker 1: think I don't think he should win Album of the
- 34:22Speaker 1: Year at all because the Common and Pete Rock were
- 34:26Speaker 1: better for a lot of other reasons, but they're very different.
- 34:29Speaker 1: But I feel like his battle on his apology silenced
- 34:36Speaker 1: that project in a lot of ways. People stop listening
- 34:40Speaker 1: to it, you know, not everybody, but people stopped listening
- 34:44Speaker 1: to it, and people stopped talking about it. So for
- 34:46Speaker 1: it to win Album other Year based off the merits,
- 34:50Speaker 1: that is good. It's cool, but I could think of
- 34:52Speaker 1: some other albums that were just as good and just
- 34:55Speaker 1: as deserving. So and no surprise, you know, kind of
- 35:02Speaker 1: maybe a surprise a little bit at least, maybe singles
- 35:05Speaker 1: and stuff, LL and q Tip. No nominations, none that
- 35:10Speaker 1: I could see on the hip hop side, So there
- 35:15Speaker 1: you have it. The Grammys is not a measuring stick
- 35:17Speaker 1: on whether music is good or not. Is just a
- 35:20Speaker 1: little bit of everything. But I'm just glad that now
- 35:23Speaker 1: they include more hip hop that most people are saying
- 35:30Speaker 1: are the best of the year. The dough She Joint
- 35:34Speaker 1: is extremely surprising because it's literally like a mixtape for her,
- 35:38Speaker 1: But it's a dope album and a lot of people
- 35:41Speaker 1: have been rocking with a lot of people like her.
- 35:43Speaker 1: But I don't think she's gonna win. So there you
- 35:45Speaker 1: have it. What do you think about the hip hop nominations?
- 35:47Speaker 1: Do you watch the Grammys? Do you feel like there
- 35:50Speaker 1: are albums that were missing? There are songs that are missing.
- 35:54Speaker 1: Leave your comments in a commons section below. Also no

- 36:07Speaker 1: about nostalgia and history and preservation and hip hop music
- 36:10Speaker 1: and culture. We have like seventy plus episodes, but recent
- 36:15Speaker 1: we did an episode on that Time in hip Hop
- 36:18Speaker 1: when J Cole dropped his third album and probably his
- 36:22Speaker 1: best album and probably his only classic, twenty fourteen Forest
- 36:28Speaker 1: Hills Drive. That's right here on the channel. It'll be
- 36:32Speaker 1: linked at the end. You can check that out. It's

- 36:37Speaker 1: I NC subscribe to the podcast, like comment all that stuff,
