- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Dirty Rush, the truth about sorority life with
- 0:04Speaker 1: your hosts, me, Gia Giudice.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Daisy Kent, and Jennifer Fessler. Hi, guys.
- 0:12Speaker 3: Welcome back to Dirty Rush.
- 0:13Speaker 2: I am Jen Fessler. So today I am joined by
- 0:17Speaker 2: a very special guest, actually an icon. So you may
- 0:22Speaker 2: know her from The Real Housewives of Orange County. I
- 0:24Speaker 2: bet that you do. But today we are going to
- 0:27Speaker 2: hear what her life was like during college recruitment. So
- 0:30Speaker 2: please welcome my friend, the beautiful Shannon Storms Bedore. Hi,
- 0:35Speaker 2: my Shannon.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Hello, Jen. Hello.
- 0:39Speaker 2: I am so excited. You know, I've been chasing you
- 0:42Speaker 2: for a while for this. I know.
- 0:43Speaker 1: And I feel really bad. I'm sorry. I moved so
- 0:46Speaker 1: that I might have been a little bit overwhelmed, but I'm.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Glad to be here.
- 0:50Speaker 2: No, no, no, no. Believe me, we know how life is.
- 0:52Speaker 2: But I'm telling you, we have wanted you on Dirty
- 0:56Speaker 2: Rush because I think that we, when I say we,
- 0:59Speaker 2: I think me, my producers, you just seem like the
- 1:02Speaker 2: ultimate sorority girl. Like, and I mean, I, and we're
- 1:07Speaker 2: going to get into the specifics, but I can, you know,
- 1:10Speaker 2: certain women, you look at them and you think, huh,
- 1:13Speaker 2: I can't sort of picture them. I think people sort of,
- 1:15Speaker 2: sort of look at me sometimes and they're surprised that
- 1:17Speaker 2: I was in University of Texas sorority girl. I feel
- 1:20Speaker 2: like you, I can see it very easily.
- 1:23Speaker 1: It's funny that you say that. I mean, there's a
- 1:26Speaker 1: story behind it because I did not have a good
- 1:29Speaker 1: sorority rush. In fact, I dropped out the first year
- 1:31Speaker 1: and then I went again the second year. I am
- 1:34Speaker 1: not the kind of girl, because at USC, they plan
- 1:39Speaker 1: the parties and you meet every single, all the girls
- 1:42Speaker 1: in all the houses. And so there was like, hi!
- 1:44Speaker 1: And I'm the kind of person that's like, hey, hi. Shh.
- 1:49Speaker 1: And so I didn't do well. And I had like
- 1:54Speaker 1: shaggy hair, like punk rock 80s. So no, it is
- 1:58Speaker 1: funny because, yeah, I'm looking at myself in the Zoom going, yeah,
- 2:01Speaker 1: that's right there.
- 2:03Speaker 3: Yes, exactly. But I mean, I also picture your personality.
- 2:06Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 2:07Speaker 3: And it's funny.
- 2:07Speaker 2: I don't know how many people from the show know
- 2:09Speaker 2: that you went to USC, you little brainiac.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Oh, no, everyone does. I'm saying fight on. Go Trojans.
- 2:14Speaker 1: My dog's name is Troy.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Everyone knows. Fair enough.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Okay.
- 2:18Speaker 2: I just didn't realize, but listen, I mean, I, I
- 2:21Speaker 2: want to hear what happened the first time around. Cause
- 2:24Speaker 2: I think that's like, especially well for our podcast, of course,
- 2:27Speaker 2: but it's such an intense thing, right? Going through rush
- 2:29Speaker 2: and we're not the age, obviously of a lot of the,
- 2:33Speaker 2: the young women that we talked to and certainly was
- 2:35Speaker 2: different than different, what it is now. Tell us a
- 2:40Speaker 2: little bit about your experience the first time and then
- 2:43Speaker 2: the second time. Okay.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Okay. So my mother went to USD, which was a
- 2:48Speaker 1: Catholic school in San Diego. So they didn't have the
- 2:51Speaker 1: sororities and fraternities and everything like that. So she didn't
- 2:54Speaker 1: really know how to prepare me. And I didn't know
- 2:57Speaker 1: how to do it either. But at USC, it was like,
- 3:00Speaker 1: I'd say most of the kids were in the sororities, fraternities.
- 3:05Speaker 1: It was the total social part of the school. I mean,
- 3:09Speaker 1: in fact, as the years went on, when you were
- 3:11Speaker 1: out at the 9-0 or one of those local bars,
- 3:14Speaker 1: And a guy came up to you. The first question is,
- 3:17Speaker 1: what house are you in? And the answer to that
- 3:19Speaker 1: question was the determining factor whether that conversation was going
- 3:22Speaker 1: to continue or not. So it was just a lot,
- 3:25Speaker 1: a lot of pressure. It was very preppy, pearls, Laura
- 3:28Speaker 1: Ashley dresses. I didn't have any of that. So in fact,
- 3:31Speaker 1: one day, and this is like the summer, August in
- 3:34Speaker 1: downtown Los Angeles. It's never cold there. One day I
- 3:37Speaker 1: wore a wool jacket. laser and pinstripe pants I don't
- 3:42Speaker 1: know what I was thinking and I know they were
- 3:44Speaker 1: all writing my name down like no get her out
- 3:48Speaker 1: so I and I was always popular so it was
- 3:50Speaker 1: hard to go into this big school I had 36
- 3:53Speaker 1: kids in my senior class so I wasn't used to
- 3:55Speaker 1: all this big stuff so so it was hard I
- 3:58Speaker 1: got rejected and um and it's not it's not fun
- 4:02Speaker 1: to be rejected so I thought well let me Drop out,
- 4:06Speaker 1: you know, kind of get the lay of the land,
- 4:08Speaker 1: become friends with people, and then I'll try again next year.
- 4:11Speaker 1: So the second time around, I got the right outfits
- 4:14Speaker 1: and I knew, you know, what to do. And I
- 4:17Speaker 1: had best friends in the top sororities. But on the
- 4:21Speaker 1: last day, I got dropped by all of them. And
- 4:23Speaker 1: my friends like sent me flowers and they called me crying.
- 4:26Speaker 1: And they said, we fought for you, Shannon. And God
- 4:30Speaker 1: had a plan. I was in a not so great. house.
- 4:34Speaker 3: I mean, it was, this is so interesting to me.
- 4:37Speaker 2: I'm telling you right now, first of all, like, especially
- 4:40Speaker 2: for all our listeners, I know, I mean, we're talking
- 4:44Speaker 2: about sororities, but so many of the girls that listen
- 4:46Speaker 2: to dirty rush are going through it, have gone through it,
- 4:51Speaker 2: have been rejected, know how intense it is, you know,
- 4:54Speaker 2: feel shitty about it. And then even saying, you know,
- 4:58Speaker 2: I got into a house and it was not one
- 5:00Speaker 2: of the pop houses. And I just think it's like,
- 5:03Speaker 2: I'm so thrilled in a way to hear you say
- 5:06Speaker 2: it because, you know, people know who you are.
- 5:08Speaker 3: It's going to be, I feel like people will know.
- 5:11Speaker 3: I mean, I truly mean it.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Like a lot of these girls know who you are
- 5:13Speaker 2: and I, I love your sharing this experience. So you
- 5:17Speaker 2: didn't get in the first time and you were, or
- 5:20Speaker 2: you just, you were dropped or you were just, you
- 5:21Speaker 2: just bowed out.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Oh yeah. That, I mean, I, I understand why I
- 5:25Speaker 1: was dropped.
- 5:26Speaker 2: I mean, I'm stripes and right.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Wool wool in august downtown la but the but the
- 5:32Speaker 1: second time around i did well until the end and
- 5:37Speaker 1: you know the reason and i feel bad to say
- 5:39Speaker 1: because i did develop some close friendships not not a
- 5:42Speaker 1: ton but some close friendships from my sorority but um
- 5:46Speaker 1: when i say mediocre i go back to my statement
- 5:49Speaker 1: of if i'm in the bar and i say what
- 5:52Speaker 1: house i heard that yeah conversation didn't go much farther
- 5:55Speaker 1: for me Because of the house that I was in.
- 5:59Speaker 1: So it was a bummer. But, you know, in the end,
- 6:03Speaker 1: I became Rush chairman and then I ran for president.
- 6:07Speaker 1: I know.
- 6:08Speaker 2: And then you became the president.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Yeah, it was very good for me because it was
- 6:14Speaker 1: kind of an early lesson in politics and how things work, etc. So,
- 6:19Speaker 1: you know, that's clearly why I was, you know, placed
- 6:23Speaker 1: where I was placed.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Did your friends that sent you flowers, did they explain
- 6:27Speaker 2: it to you? I'm trying to picture a scenario where
- 6:31Speaker 2: beautiful Shannon Storm's wearing the right outfit, the Lily Pulitzer
- 6:34Speaker 2: of it all. I mean, I know that you had
- 6:37Speaker 2: to approach it sweet and bubbly and whatever. Maybe you
- 6:40Speaker 2: said you were not that bubbly at that time, but did.
- 6:42Speaker 3: They give you a reason? Did any of your friends say?
- 6:45Speaker 1: Yeah. You know what? I mean, gosh, I don't know
- 6:47Speaker 1: if this is going to get me in trouble, but
- 6:50Speaker 1: there was.
- 6:50Speaker 2: You have, honey.
- 6:51Speaker 3: You got it.
- 6:52Speaker 2: I don't think that we're going to worry about you
- 6:53Speaker 2: getting in trouble over sorority nonsense.
- 6:55Speaker 1: There was back in... So I went through sorority rush
- 6:58Speaker 1: in 1983. So back then, things were a lot different
- 7:03Speaker 1: than they were. There wasn't a lot of inclusivity. So
- 7:06Speaker 1: I don't want to say that there was a bit
- 7:09Speaker 1: of anti-Semitism going on at the school, but I had
- 7:13Speaker 1: my nose done in my sophomore year. I had a
- 7:16Speaker 1: huge nose and people... thought that I was Jewish. Come on.
- 7:22Speaker 1: I'm not kidding. Yeah, I'm not kidding.
- 7:26Speaker 2: I could just throw up. I mean, I am Jewish.
- 7:28Speaker 1: I mean, then you have to understand, two years later,
- 7:32Speaker 1: you know, it was a very different world.
- 7:35Speaker 2: No, but I appreciate, I appreciate your bringing that to
- 7:38Speaker 2: light because we haven't really talked about that a lot
- 7:40Speaker 2: on Dirty Rush. I was in a Jewish sorority because
- 7:44Speaker 2: it was formed at the University of Texas because Jewish
- 7:46Speaker 2: girls had a hard time getting into other sororities. So
- 7:49Speaker 2: there you go.
- 7:52Speaker 1: And I suppose I don't have actual data or statistics,
- 7:55Speaker 1: but it's just kind of what was an unwritten or unspoken, yeah,
- 8:01Speaker 1: that's how it is. And interestingly enough, so I pledged
- 8:07Speaker 1: my sophomore year, and on that Christmas vacation, I had
- 8:10Speaker 1: a nose job.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Wow. I know.
- 8:12Speaker 3: Wow.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Okay. So you pledge, you get in, you said it
- 8:32Speaker 2: wasn't a quote unquote top tier. So funny. Cause like
- 8:35Speaker 2: my daughter, I know you have one daughter.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Do I say the name?
- 8:38Speaker 3: We didn't say that back then.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Yeah. If you don't mind, that's Alpha Chi Omega. Alpha
- 8:42Speaker 2: Chi Omega. Back then we didn't say this is a
- 8:45Speaker 2: top tier sorority. We didn't have, well, we didn't have,
- 8:48Speaker 2: you know, we didn't have social media, so we didn't have,
- 8:50Speaker 2: you know, rankings and all the other crap that comes
- 8:53Speaker 2: with that. Right. Like what made it top tier for
- 8:56Speaker 2: me back in the day? It was like, well, in
- 8:58Speaker 2: terms of the stories I was looking at, this one
- 9:00Speaker 2: has the most pretty girls. You know, I don't know
- 9:02Speaker 2: what makes it, if that's right. And that was like,
- 9:05Speaker 2: it wasn't, unfortunately, it was not about where do the
- 9:07Speaker 2: smart girls go or the nice girls go. I don't
- 9:10Speaker 2: know if it was like that for you too.
- 9:11Speaker 1: It was, it was the pretty girls and then it
- 9:13Speaker 1: was also the wealthy girls.
- 9:15Speaker 2: And the wealthy girls, right.
- 9:17Speaker 1: So there were girls that weren't as maybe attractive, but,
- 9:21Speaker 1: you know, and, and, you know, at USC, it was
- 9:24Speaker 1: such an important part of the social life. there were
- 9:27Speaker 1: people that knew they were going to rush. So they
- 9:29Speaker 1: got to know some of the girls and they'd fly
- 9:31Speaker 1: them on the jet for a vacation or, you know,
- 9:33Speaker 1: stuff like that, just to kind of be well-known before
- 9:37Speaker 1: they went in. Yeah. But, you know, I didn't have
- 9:40Speaker 1: the jet. Who knows what I may have tried to
- 9:42Speaker 1: try that tactic. Yeah, exactly.
- 9:45Speaker 3: But I mean, you were, you, you became the president.
- 9:47Speaker 2: So clearly you were very involved. You must have, you know,
- 9:50Speaker 2: when you look back on it, did you, do you
- 9:52Speaker 2: feel like you enjoyed it? you know, your sorority experience
- 9:57Speaker 2: and do you feel like it would have been different
- 9:59Speaker 2: if you had pledged a different sorority, if you had
- 10:01Speaker 2: gotten in somewhere else? Or do you feel like you
- 10:03Speaker 2: got in, you know, the right one for you?
- 10:07Speaker 1: I mean, now that I look back on it and
- 10:09Speaker 1: all the things that I learned, like for instance, we
- 10:13Speaker 1: had chapter every Monday night and you would have your
- 10:16Speaker 1: Monday night dinner and then you go down to the
- 10:18Speaker 1: chapter room and oh goodness, they would drag on and
- 10:21Speaker 1: on and on and on. And then people started to
- 10:23Speaker 1: make excuses for not coming to the meeting. So when
- 10:25Speaker 1: I became president, I had like a timing thing. If
- 10:29Speaker 1: you did not come to my room and put your
- 10:31Speaker 1: announcement on the agenda, I'd go, sorry, I know we
- 10:34Speaker 1: have a... pledge active party this Saturday, but she didn't
- 10:37Speaker 1: come to my room. The advisors would love to have
- 10:40Speaker 1: the floor so they could talk, talk, talk. I go,
- 10:42Speaker 1: you're three minutes is up. And so people came to
- 10:45Speaker 1: chapter because they got the information quickly without people talking,
- 10:49Speaker 1: talking and, and they got out. So I feel as
- 10:52Speaker 1: though I was able to do things like that. And
- 10:56Speaker 1: it was, I've thought about this this morning when I
- 11:00Speaker 1: was graduating and we had the election for the new
- 11:04Speaker 1: girls that were running for president, I wanted to make
- 11:07Speaker 1: sure that we did it completely by the book. So
- 11:11Speaker 1: with the advisors, I looked in the bylaws and we
- 11:15Speaker 1: sat at a table and we divided it up between
- 11:17Speaker 1: the executive board and we counted the votes and then
- 11:20Speaker 1: piled it together. Like we did it all by the
- 11:22Speaker 1: book and there was a girl that didn't win. And
- 11:24Speaker 1: she came to my room one night and said, can
- 11:27Speaker 1: I see the bylaws?
- 11:28Speaker 2: And I go, sure.
- 11:29Speaker 1: And I handed her the book and she went to
- 11:31Speaker 1: Kinko's And she had the whole book copied. Her parents
- 11:36Speaker 1: gave it to their attorney. And they did an investigation
- 11:41Speaker 1: thinking that potentially I had rigged the election. Come on. No.
- 11:47Speaker 1: And you know what they found out at the investigation?
- 11:49Speaker 1: For the first time it was done by the book. Me.
- 11:52Speaker 2: For the first time. Yeah.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Yes.
- 11:55Speaker 3: Who does that?
- 11:56Speaker 2: Like, I also think, yeah, I think that would happen today, actually.
- 11:59Speaker 2: That is how, and I don't know if we took
- 12:02Speaker 2: sororities as seriously back then we took it seriously for sure.
- 12:05Speaker 2: But now with, I mean, I don't remember having Panhellenic
- 12:09Speaker 2: being so involved and I was, but not like it
- 12:12Speaker 2: is now. There's so many bylaws and rules and all
- 12:16Speaker 2: of that.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Right.
- 12:17Speaker 2: I think we were a little more loosey goosey back then,
- 12:19Speaker 2: but maybe, maybe not you guys.
- 12:21Speaker 1: No, I mean, it was to an extent, but no
- 12:24Speaker 1: hell weeks, hell weeks were hell weeks.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Yeah. I think that in today's world, you do need
- 12:30Speaker 1: to have, all of those rules. Um, cause I know,
- 12:34Speaker 1: I know that USC is completely different today. And I
- 12:37Speaker 1: went back when I was in law school, I went
- 12:40Speaker 1: back to, to help with rush for, I don't know,
- 12:42Speaker 1: one of the days. And it was very different. Like
- 12:45Speaker 1: girls were wearing shorts and it wasn't, there weren't as
- 12:48Speaker 1: many people going through us because people were more individuals then,
- 12:52Speaker 1: and they didn't want to conform to the story. So
- 12:54Speaker 1: I don't really know what it is now, but I
- 12:56Speaker 1: do remember on the house tours day in my actual sorority,
- 13:02Speaker 1: I think her name was Jenny Lynn or something like that.
- 13:05Speaker 1: The girl in Three's Company. She was from my house.
- 13:08Speaker 1: So I wondered.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Wait, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 13:09Speaker 3: Jenny Lynn?
- 13:10Speaker 2: Which one was she?
- 13:11Speaker 1: Jenny Lee.
- 13:12Speaker 3: So not Suzanne Somers, not Joyce DeWitt. The other curly
- 13:16Speaker 3: haired one?
- 13:16Speaker 1: She took over for Suzanne Somers when she left.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Right.
- 13:20Speaker 3: Okay.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Okay. Okay. Yeah.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Not.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Wow. Look at your
- 13:25Speaker 2: little claim to fame.
- 13:27Speaker 1: So I wonder, I have wondered. I don't even know
- 13:31Speaker 1: if the house is still there because I know there
- 13:32Speaker 1: was issues if they're going to stay. But did they
- 13:35Speaker 1: put my picture on the wall?
- 13:38Speaker 3: You don't want to know that? How have you not
- 13:40Speaker 3: headed back? It's not that far. I mean, that's so important.
- 13:44Speaker 2: Well, they have my picture on the wall at mine,
- 13:46Speaker 2: but it's simply a composite. There are no tributes to
- 13:51Speaker 2: Jennifer Fessler, a friend of a housewife. No, no, stop.
- 13:54Speaker 1: Stop it. You know, Jeff Lewis, when he was filming
- 13:58Speaker 1: Flipping Out, not the new one, I came up with
- 14:02Speaker 1: the idea you should do a sorority. And so we
- 14:05Speaker 1: went to Alphacai Omega and we filmed it and we
- 14:09Speaker 1: toured the house. But somehow they decided not to work
- 14:14Speaker 1: with him, which was such a bummer. So I did
- 14:16Speaker 1: get to go back.
- 14:17Speaker 2: What a dumb move on their part. I know.
- 14:19Speaker 1: You go through it with Jeff.
- 14:20Speaker 2: This is a complete aside, but you've been friends with
- 14:22Speaker 2: Jeff for that long? I didn't realize.
- 14:24Speaker 1: I met Jeff when two months into filming my first season.
- 14:27Speaker 1: So we've been friends since 2013.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Got it. Got it. That makes sense.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Okay.
- 14:34Speaker 2: So you're the president and you're leading this house full
- 14:37Speaker 2: of best friends. You know, you were in that leadership role.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Was it hard to juggle it? I mean, for all
- 14:43Speaker 2: those presidents out there listening, was it hard to maintain
- 14:46Speaker 2: those friendships while still having to, you know, kind of
- 14:50Speaker 2: keep everyone in check?
- 14:52Speaker 1: I mean, no, no. And I never really thought of that,
- 14:55Speaker 1: but I was kind of more of a kind of
- 14:57Speaker 1: a fun person. So I didn't really get down on it.
- 15:02Speaker 1: And I wasn't in charge of standards. That was the
- 15:05Speaker 1: first vice president. So that's where the disciplinary stuff happened.
- 15:09Speaker 1: I will say if I saw Pledge on Campus and
- 15:13Speaker 1: I was, you know, good enough to remember their name,
- 15:15Speaker 1: it's like, hi, hello, Lindsay. And they didn't say hi
- 15:19Speaker 1: or like, oh, no, there was a respect that I deserve.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Damn it.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Shannon, I think about how there are so many correlations here.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Like I know my listeners are dying. Like Shannon, the
- 15:34Speaker 2: sorority girl, Shannon, the real housewife. There's just so much
- 15:38Speaker 2: like overlap. So funny because like I always think, you know,
- 15:42Speaker 2: they say once you're, you know, in this in the
- 15:44Speaker 2: housewife world, we're like a sorority.
- 15:47Speaker 3: Do you feel like that?
- 15:48Speaker 1: Absolutely. You meet someone one time that does what you
- 15:53Speaker 1: do and it's an instant connection. I remember sitting next
- 15:57Speaker 1: to you, Jen, in the bus and I was like
- 15:59Speaker 1: spilling my guts. You were.
- 16:02Speaker 3: It was so great. It was a tough year for me.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Yeah, you were having a tough year. You even cried
- 16:08Speaker 2: a little. I remember thinking, wow, we got closed very quickly.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, there's something that's amazing about you because there's
- 16:15Speaker 1: just this goodness in you that it's just you feel it.
- 16:19Speaker 1: And so I felt very comfortable to share it with you.
- 16:22Speaker 2: I feel the same way about you. But, you know,
- 16:25Speaker 2: it's also, listen, and being in a sorority is also
- 16:27Speaker 2: can be competitive, cutthroat, right? There's, I mean, these are
- 16:32Speaker 2: your quote unquote sisters. It doesn't always feel like that.
- 16:36Speaker 2: I'm sure. I mean, all of us can look back
- 16:39Speaker 2: and it's, it's, do you still keep in touch with
- 16:41Speaker 2: your sisters?
- 16:43Speaker 1: No. They're busy. But no, no. I mean, I was
- 16:46Speaker 1: roommates with two. So I have two very close friends.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Oh, good.
- 16:49Speaker 1: From the house. But I just don't know if that's
- 16:52Speaker 1: my makeup. Like, I don't have a huge circle of
- 16:55Speaker 1: friends today. I just keep a small group around me.
- 16:59Speaker 1: So I don't know. We had 140 girls in our sorority. So, like,
- 17:02Speaker 1: I don't know if I'm built for that many friendships.
- 17:06Speaker 1: I like intimate, close relationships. Yes.
- 17:09Speaker 2: Especially as I get older. Putting people out left and right. But...
- 17:14Speaker 2: But so I'm picturing them though, coming for you. Like
- 17:17Speaker 2: if it's me and you are, you are in my sorority. Oh,
- 17:22Speaker 2: I'm DMing. I'm, I'm finding you. We're going to, we're
- 17:25Speaker 2: having coffee.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:26Speaker 2: See, we didn't have any of that. We didn't even
- 17:27Speaker 2: have the cell phone. Nobody's coming after you. I know,
- 17:30Speaker 2: but nobody's DMing you or from. No.
- 17:33Speaker 1: So I had a boy, I had a boyfriend for
- 17:35Speaker 1: eight years. I never went to one fraternity party other
- 17:38Speaker 1: than his, which is the weirdest thing. So there were
- 17:42Speaker 1: some girls because we went out for eight years total
- 17:45Speaker 1: and we were engaged, but then we broke up.
- 17:48Speaker 2: You started going out freshman year and then it continued
- 17:50Speaker 2: after you graduated?
- 17:51Speaker 1: Yes. Yes. And there were girls that inappropriately tried to
- 17:57Speaker 1: make advances.
- 17:58Speaker 2: They had no idea who they were dealing with.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Well, I still remember their names.
- 18:08Speaker 3: Feel free to spill them here.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Seriously. Don't be coming to me for any favors, ladies.
- 18:13Speaker 1: I know who you are.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 18:15Speaker 3: Can you imagine how pissed they are now?
- 18:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know.
- 18:19Speaker 3: I could have been in the audience and watched What
- 18:20Speaker 3: Happens Live.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Screw that stuff.
- 18:25Speaker 3: All right.
- 18:26Speaker 2: So you've gone back and you were united with your little,
- 18:29Speaker 2: I know that. We didn't call them littles. I hate that.
- 18:32Speaker 2: They were little sisters then.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Oh, that's what Sophie. Sophie was a Catholic at Baylor.
- 18:37Speaker 1: She calls it her little and her big. And a
- 18:39Speaker 1: grand big.
- 18:40Speaker 2: And a grand big. I can't. I know. And they
- 18:42Speaker 2: don't know any different. But like for me, it's like
- 18:44Speaker 2: that always gets on my nerves. But you reunited with
- 18:47Speaker 2: your little tell me a little bit about that was like.
- 18:50Speaker 1: OK, so when Jeff and I went back, my little
- 18:53Speaker 1: sister was the head advisor to the whole group. So, yes,
- 19:00Speaker 1: I saw her there. And a poor thing I've heard.
- 19:03Speaker 1: She she lost her home in the Palisades fire. And
- 19:06Speaker 1: I just saw a post recently that I guess she's
- 19:08Speaker 1: starting to rebuild. So she's had a tough time, but yes,
- 19:11Speaker 1: I saw her.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 19:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:14Speaker 2: It's weird, right? It's like worlds collide like that. I've
- 19:16Speaker 2: been back to my sorority house. I mean, it's in Austin, Texas.
- 19:20Speaker 2: So I haven't been back that many times when I
- 19:22Speaker 2: took my son to see UT and whatever. It's a
- 19:24Speaker 2: very strange feeling. I mean, the person that I was
- 19:28Speaker 2: back then, you know, in my late teens, early twenties
- 19:33Speaker 2: is It's so different from who I am today. And
- 19:35Speaker 2: even though those years in a sorority were so much fun,
- 19:38Speaker 2: I was a ball of insecurities. Like, I don't know,
- 19:41Speaker 2: you know, I'm a 58-year-old woman now. Obviously, it's different.
- 19:44Speaker 2: But do you feel, you're the president. I mean, you
- 19:46Speaker 2: took on these leadership roles. How did you feel about
- 19:48Speaker 2: yourself back then?
- 19:51Speaker 1: I mean, there were times where I thought it was
- 19:53Speaker 1: tough when certain girls didn't agree with me. But at
- 19:56Speaker 1: the same time, I thought– I saw an opportunity for
- 19:59Speaker 1: a house that, you know, had issues that there were–
- 20:02Speaker 1: things that I could do to possibly make it better
- 20:05Speaker 1: or improve it. So I kind of went in.
- 20:07Speaker 3: And that was the drive. It wasn't like, I want
- 20:08Speaker 3: this on my resume, but you.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Know, no, no, not at all. And I, you know, I,
- 20:13Speaker 1: I wanted to make positive change and I, I hope
- 20:17Speaker 1: that I did. I'll tell you, I graduated in December.
- 20:21Speaker 1: So I wasn't around for the second half of, because
- 20:25Speaker 1: I was a four and a half year senior. So,
- 20:28Speaker 1: but when I went back for initiation in like April, I,
- 20:32Speaker 1: I memorized the whole thing. And there was a lot
- 20:35Speaker 1: of Greek words. And, oh, but you know what I
- 20:38Speaker 1: had them do? They had a throne that you could
- 20:41Speaker 1: sit on. I had them bring dry ice in. Oh, yeah,
- 20:44Speaker 1: I did.
- 20:44Speaker 2: I'm so not surprised by that. I mean, that is,
- 20:48Speaker 2: it's perfect. These stories to me are perfect. If I'm
- 20:53Speaker 2: listening to this, this is what I want to hear
- 20:55Speaker 2: from you right now. Because I.
- 20:57Speaker 3: I'm of course, like looking at.
- 20:59Speaker 2: The connection between the you that I know, not just personally,
- 21:02Speaker 2: but also on the show and the you then, you know,
- 21:05Speaker 2: and I love that you're saying that you didn't do
- 21:07Speaker 2: it just to put it on your resume. Cause I
- 21:09Speaker 2: feel like even on the show, like you don't do
- 21:11Speaker 2: shit just to like, like there's, there's never some covert reason.
- 21:17Speaker 2: And I've heard, you know, you had a bet, but
- 21:19Speaker 2: I feel like you're just, you do your shit that
- 21:21Speaker 2: you want to do that makes sense for you in
- 21:23Speaker 2: your life. No apologies for it.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Also, I was the dumbass that thought when you graduated
- 21:29Speaker 1: and got a job, they expected you to know how
- 21:31Speaker 1: to do everything. So I was scared to graduate. It's like,
- 21:34Speaker 1: what am I going to do? So when the opportunity
- 21:37Speaker 1: came to potentially run for president, because the term ran
- 21:40Speaker 1: from January through the end of the year, I thought, well,
- 21:42Speaker 1: I'll just split up my schedule and I'll stay an
- 21:46Speaker 1: extra semester and I'll run for president.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Okay, my friends, that is it for this episode of
- 21:51Speaker 2: Dirty Rush, but there is a part two. So tune
- 21:55Speaker 2: in to hear more from the lovely Shannon Storms Bedore.
