- 0:20Speaker 2: Six writers penalized, three race starts, two writers Center hospital,
- 0:25Speaker 2: one reigning world champion exploding at his own team. Oh
- 0:29Speaker 2: and that was just the Grand Prix because in the
- 0:31Speaker 2: sprint we had the closest sprint finished in history. That
- 0:35Speaker 2: was Moto GP's catalan Grand Prix, and it delivered pure
- 0:39Speaker 2: chaos from start to finish. And you can say it
- 0:42Speaker 2: will go down as one of the wildest, most dramatic
- 0:45Speaker 2: weekends this sport has seen in years. This episode of
- 0:50Speaker 2: Pit Talk is sponsored by Shannon's Insurance. I'm your host,
- 0:52Speaker 2: Ronita Vanmuelin, and joining me to unpack the chaos from
- 0:56Speaker 2: Catalonia is a man who survived more Motor GP paddic
- 0:59Speaker 2: dr that a term one restart at Montmellow. It's Matt Clayton. Matt,
- 1:05Speaker 2: have you had a chance to breathe yet since the weekend.
- 1:09Speaker 3: It is funny because we're a couple of days removed
- 1:11Speaker 3: from it now and I'm ticking off all the things
- 1:13Speaker 3: your intro go, yes, that happened, that happened. I've forgotten
- 1:16Speaker 3: that it was the closest sprint result in the history
- 1:19Speaker 3: of MotoGP sprints is twenty twenty three. And this is
- 1:21Speaker 3: not just me being lazy here. To be fair, that
- 1:23Speaker 3: was the fourteenth most crazy thing that happened over the
- 1:26Speaker 3: course of the weekend. It just felt like it never stopped.
- 1:29Speaker 3: And it's something about this race track that tends to
- 1:32Speaker 3: throw up a bit of dramas, which I'm sure we'll
- 1:33Speaker 3: talk about in the next half an hour to forty
- 1:35Speaker 3: five minutes or so. But my goodness, there was there
- 1:38Speaker 3: was a lot to process, and at the end of
- 1:41Speaker 3: it all like you kind of exhilarate it, but you
- 1:43Speaker 3: just been drained by the whole thing because you're trying
- 1:47Speaker 3: to work out what's the most important takeaway for the
- 1:50Speaker 3: entire weekend. And it did dawn on me in the
- 1:53Speaker 3: day after the race that the most important takeaway is
- 1:56Speaker 3: the really obvious one, in that we were very, very
- 1:58Speaker 3: fortunate to not have more serious injuries for a couple
- 2:01Speaker 3: of really really awful accidents over the course of the weekend.
- 2:05Speaker 3: You know, if you could call minor in inverted Cobba's injuries,
- 2:07Speaker 3: what happened to Alex Marquez and Tojo and Zako. But man,
- 2:11Speaker 3: what a weekend and just one plot twis staff or another.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Wasn't it pretty much?
- 2:16Speaker 2: I mean, you hit the nail on the head there,
- 2:18Speaker 2: And okay, I try and make these intros, these pods
- 2:21Speaker 2: quite lighthearted and funny, but in seriousness, it is one
- 2:25Speaker 2: of those situations where it really brings it back home
- 2:29Speaker 2: that you know, these writers are risking their lives for us,
- 2:31Speaker 2: for our entertainment, and yeah, okay, we're lucky we get
- 2:35Speaker 2: to talk about it and write about it and post
- 2:37Speaker 2: about it on socials, but ultimately, you know, these are
- 2:41Speaker 2: human beings with families and friends and they're risking their lives.
- 2:44Speaker 2: And like you said, we got really really close to
- 2:47Speaker 2: multiple situations. Even with Digitio, which we was talking about live,
- 2:51Speaker 2: you know that someone was looking down on them this
- 2:55Speaker 2: weekend and made it so that, yeah, they walked away
- 2:57Speaker 2: with injuries that were they're able to recover from and
- 3:00Speaker 2: hopefully get back on the bike sooner rather than later. So,
- 3:04Speaker 2: while like I said, we keep everything lighthearted, Yeah, it
- 3:07Speaker 2: really really did hit home, and I think I want
- 3:11Speaker 2: to start with we know the outcome for Fabio, not Fabio,
- 3:16Speaker 2: That's who I'm trying to get to. We know the
- 3:17Speaker 2: outcome for Alex Mankes, we know the outcome for Joanzaka.
- 3:20Speaker 2: At the moment, I want to talk about Fabio dig
- 3:23Speaker 2: Antonio because he won Sunday's Rum Prix ultimately, but if
- 3:27Speaker 2: you were to go back in hour to the start
- 3:30Speaker 2: of the first race when we had that incident, he
- 3:33Speaker 2: nearly had a front wheel a set of forks coming
- 3:37Speaker 2: directly at him, How he managed to jump back on
- 3:41Speaker 2: a bike, how he managed to then fight once again.
- 3:44Speaker 2: We know he's had the pace, we've seen it all season,
- 3:46Speaker 2: but to then go and take the win here, the
- 3:48Speaker 2: first win that he's had with VR forty six, his
- 3:50Speaker 2: second win in Moto GP history. Honestly, to me, it's
- 3:55Speaker 2: just astonishing and a positive from that weekend is he
- 3:58Speaker 2: got the victory.
- 4:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:00Speaker 3: I mean, look, seventy minutes after some other rider's will
- 4:04Speaker 3: knocked him clean off his motor bike and injured him,
- 4:06Speaker 3: He's turned around and won his second Motor GP race.
- 4:09Speaker 3: It will get sort of lost in all the headlines
- 4:12Speaker 3: of the accidents and the controversies and all of the
- 4:14Speaker 3: other sort of chaos that happened over the weekend. He
- 4:17Speaker 3: we've discussed it. He's having a really, really good season.
- 4:20Speaker 3: He is Ducati's best rider on complete merit so far
- 4:23Speaker 3: this season. He was ahead of Mark and the championship
- 4:25Speaker 3: before Mark got injured. As completely legitimate with him this year.
- 4:29Speaker 3: But to show the mental fortitude that he had to
- 4:33Speaker 3: in that hour and a half period, I mean, he
- 4:36Speaker 3: was very, very fortunate to not be more injured by
- 4:41Speaker 3: the Marquees Wiel hitting his bike, And it was really
- 4:43Speaker 3: interesting in the post race press conference, which I'm not
- 4:45Speaker 3: sure whether you were. You're probably like playing three pianos
- 4:49Speaker 3: at the same time at that point, so who knows
- 4:50Speaker 3: what was going on. But it was really interesting in
- 4:52Speaker 3: that he was asked about the incident when he got
- 4:54Speaker 3: hit by the Marquees wheel and he almost sounded a
- 4:57Speaker 3: bit disappointed in himself, and that he said he knew
- 5:00Speaker 3: the danger that he was riding into and he used
- 5:02Speaker 3: the word blocked in that he was just mentally blocked.
- 5:05Speaker 3: He couldn't work out what to do in the circumstance
- 5:09Speaker 3: where he knew he was riding into a dangerous situation,
- 5:12Speaker 3: and he said, maybe I could have moved more to
- 5:14Speaker 3: the left, or I could have made a better decision.
- 5:16Speaker 3: I realized the danger that I was in and I
- 5:18Speaker 3: kind of just froze. And that's really interesting that a
- 5:22Speaker 3: to admit that, be to have the clarity of thought
- 5:24Speaker 3: with all of this going on through your head after
- 5:26Speaker 3: you've just wanted your second Grand Prix's like, yeah, I
- 5:28Speaker 3: didn't actually handle that very well. Now, to his defense, yet,
- 5:33Speaker 3: there's no playbook on how to handle this. You do
- 5:35Speaker 3: not expect an exploding motorcycle to be riding into the
- 5:39Speaker 3: path of and just where he was on the track.
- 5:41Speaker 3: But it was interesting in that he after the race
- 5:44Speaker 3: was more like, yeah, I did not handle that great,
- 5:46Speaker 3: but I also don't know how you're supposed to handle
- 5:48Speaker 3: something like that, because this is an unprecedented situation. We
- 5:52Speaker 3: see accidents like this happen at the front of emotor
- 5:55Speaker 3: GP races, but never at the front of the field
- 5:57Speaker 3: at a point where the entire pack's about to ride
- 5:59Speaker 3: through it. And that was the interesting part for me.
- 6:01Speaker 3: He was in the wrong place at the wrong time
- 6:02Speaker 3: by virtue of the fact that he was up the front,
- 6:05Speaker 3: So for him to turn around after not one but
- 6:07Speaker 3: two restarts, remember, and to have the best or second
- 6:11Speaker 3: best win of his career, as only two of the
- 6:13Speaker 3: choose from it's just more testament to the fact that
- 6:16Speaker 3: he's really made a lot of progress this year. And
- 6:19Speaker 3: as much as we don't have these contracts for twenty twenties,
- 6:22Speaker 3: evens still announced officially, he's turned what he's done this
- 6:26Speaker 3: year into becoming what he's always wanted to become, which
- 6:28Speaker 3: is fully paid, full factory writer. He'll be going to
- 6:32Speaker 3: KTM next year with Alex Markez. Of all people, those
- 6:35Speaker 3: two are joyed together in that story as well. But
- 6:38Speaker 3: there's part of me with this year in that you
- 6:41Speaker 3: know what it's like in this business and to take
- 6:43Speaker 3: people behind the curtain here. You're not supposed to play
- 6:46Speaker 3: favorites when you're in the media side of things, but
- 6:48Speaker 3: you're always going to be more conditioned towards being happier
- 6:52Speaker 3: for people that go about it the right way. And
- 6:54Speaker 3: he just goes about every aspect of his job, whether
- 6:57Speaker 3: it's within the team and the sponsors and the fans
- 7:00Speaker 3: and the press. He's a guy who does it right.
- 7:02Speaker 3: And when people who do it right get the rewards.
- 7:05Speaker 3: You can't help but feel happy for him. His journey's
- 7:08Speaker 3: been super interesting, even to get to Moto GP, the
- 7:11Speaker 3: fact that he was almost out because Grassini had the
- 7:14Speaker 3: opportunity to side Mark Barkes, which every team would say, sorry,
- 7:17Speaker 3: whoever the other guy is, we're siding Mark Barkeres. He's
- 7:20Speaker 3: managed to actually kick on and have a stronger second
- 7:23Speaker 3: part to his career, turned himself into a factory writer
- 7:25Speaker 3: in his late twenties. Really pleased to see a nice
- 7:28Speaker 3: guy get a great reward, but to do it under
- 7:30Speaker 3: those circumstances where he was injured and he still managed
- 7:34Speaker 3: to come through when it mattered in the Grand Prix.
- 7:35Speaker 3: It's hugely meritorious. I think it's one of the better
- 7:38Speaker 3: wins we've seen for a long while.
- 7:41Speaker 2: I agree, I think it's one of the better wins.
- 7:42Speaker 2: But I also think for him, he was so humble
- 7:45Speaker 2: about it, you know, straight away he said, like I'm
- 7:49Speaker 2: just so happy that you know, Alex and Johanna are okay,
- 7:52Speaker 2: and like this isn't just about me winning right now,
- 7:55Speaker 2: It's about us. And it's like I have noticed from
- 7:59Speaker 2: Digia this year, and especially from that press conference, might
- 8:03Speaker 2: have been in harass where he was like, can we
- 8:06Speaker 2: stop talking about where I'm going because I'm still writing
- 8:09Speaker 2: for VR forty six right now. I want to go
- 8:11Speaker 2: and celebrate with my team. I want to be with
- 8:13Speaker 2: the team. I feel like he's kind of really showing
- 8:16Speaker 2: this this humble side to himself aside that we've never
- 8:20Speaker 2: really seen before, and it's quite refreshing. It's kind of
- 8:23Speaker 2: nice to see this hot underneath the levels, like they're
- 8:27Speaker 2: actually genuine human beings there, which is really really interesting.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Too, because well and also because he's not sort of
- 8:35Speaker 3: your standard sort of VR forty six rider. He's not
- 8:37Speaker 3: part of the academy, He's never one of the chosen ones, right,
- 8:39Speaker 3: He's kind of been the This sounds a bit cruel, sorry,
- 8:42Speaker 3: did you. He's kind of an ugly duckling right with
- 8:44Speaker 3: the Italian riders in a lot of respects. Because he
- 8:47Speaker 3: wasn't brought up as being some Rossi protege or someone
- 8:50Speaker 3: who was amazing in the junior classes and what have you.
- 8:52Speaker 3: He's kind of gone about it a different way to
- 8:55Speaker 3: end up in the same destination. Now he's fallen in
- 8:58Speaker 3: with Rossi's team more through you know, it was a
- 9:01Speaker 3: landing spot for him when he didn't really have many
- 9:04Speaker 3: other options when with the Grassini thing folded up, so
- 9:07Speaker 3: for him that to turn that into a success. And
- 9:09Speaker 3: you mentioned the fact that he wants to enjoy it
- 9:11Speaker 3: in the present. Yes he does because of where he's been,
- 9:14Speaker 3: but it's also been the thing that's catapulted him into
- 9:17Speaker 3: this potentially better situation for twenty twenty seven. So I
- 9:21Speaker 3: don't think this is the last race he wins this year.
- 9:23Speaker 3: I think you know, we've seen that there's going to
- 9:25Speaker 3: be certain tracks where the aprillia is a little bit fallible.
- 9:28Speaker 3: And then you look at the rest of the field.
- 9:29Speaker 3: Who do you trust right now to be there on
- 9:32Speaker 3: a day when an aprilia is not going to win? Now,
- 9:34Speaker 3: Mark's out at the moment he will be back. There's
- 9:37Speaker 3: no one else on a decady really right now that
- 9:39Speaker 3: you trust. Honda would need something remarkable to win a race.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Yamaha would need no other bikes in the race to
- 9:44Speaker 3: win a race because of how slowly they are Pedro
- 9:47Speaker 3: Acosta will probably win to race before this season is over.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Let's be honest, but did he is almost the most
- 9:50Speaker 3: trustworthy guy of everyone else on the grid right now
- 9:53Speaker 3: to step into the breach when a breach comes about.
- 9:55Speaker 3: So I don't think it's the last time we see it,
- 9:58Speaker 3: and this is one of the we could. This is
- 10:00Speaker 3: like eight podcasts down the track for us. But I'm
- 10:03Speaker 3: so interested later in this year where there's going to
- 10:06Speaker 3: be all those all these guys that know they're not
- 10:07Speaker 3: riding for their current teams or even their current manufacturers anymore.
- 10:11Speaker 3: Once that's all out in the open, it's going to
- 10:13Speaker 3: be really quite weird, frankly, in this championship fight where
- 10:17Speaker 3: you're going to have all these people that are capable
- 10:18Speaker 3: of winning races for teams they're not going to be
- 10:20Speaker 3: with in six months time or so. That's going to
- 10:22Speaker 3: be super interesting when that happens. It's going to be
- 10:24Speaker 3: this weird little undercurrent. At the back end of the season.
- 10:28Speaker 3: You look at the standings and you'll say, well, he's
- 10:30Speaker 3: not staying there, he's not staying there, he's not staying there.
- 10:33Speaker 3: There's going to be more people moving than not. And
- 10:35Speaker 3: I was talking to someone earlier today it looks like
- 10:37Speaker 3: there's going to be one of the eleven teams is
- 10:40Speaker 3: going to have the same rider lineup one season on season,
- 10:43Speaker 3: which selci a Honda. Yeah, incredible to think there's that
- 10:46Speaker 3: much change you throw into the mixed brand new bikes
- 10:50Speaker 3: and rules and rags and everything for next year. It's
- 10:52Speaker 3: going to be so weird the back end of this year.
- 10:54Speaker 3: I'm all for it because I'm looking forward to what
- 10:57Speaker 3: it does to the championship picture. But we've you know,
- 11:00Speaker 3: sometimes you have these situations with boter GP where you'll say, oh,
- 11:02Speaker 3: it's a bit like twenty fifteen, it's a bit like
- 11:04Speaker 3: two thousand and six, whatever it is. This is not
- 11:06Speaker 3: a bit like anything. We've never done this before. And
- 11:09Speaker 3: that's what makes the back end of this year so
- 11:11Speaker 3: interesting because once all these contracts get announced, to Jane
- 11:13Speaker 3: Antonio being one of them, where does this season go?
- 11:16Speaker 3: We don't know because we've never experienced this.
- 11:20Speaker 2: I think. I mean, there's that as a writer changes,
- 11:22Speaker 2: but there's the bike changes. And that kind of leads
- 11:24Speaker 2: me into the next thing that I wanted to talk about,
- 11:26Speaker 2: which is the fact that we have the massive changes
- 11:29Speaker 2: coming with the ban of the right height device. Right,
- 11:34Speaker 2: So yeah, let's talk about Zarko's crash. I want to
- 11:39Speaker 2: know the ins and outs of that and in what
- 11:42Speaker 2: you think because of what my research is and what
- 11:44Speaker 2: I've been reading from some of the other journalists like
- 11:47Speaker 2: Matt Oxley especially saying we need to ban those now
- 11:51Speaker 2: because that was the cause. Now, I read an article
- 11:55Speaker 2: where Zarko was saying that mentally he wasn't there for
- 12:00Speaker 2: the start of the second lineup, which already straightaway is
- 12:05Speaker 2: a red flag. And I mean for these guys to
- 12:08Speaker 2: like you said, the crash happened at the start of
- 12:10Speaker 2: the pack, we saw like Jack. You even wrote about
- 12:12Speaker 2: Jack writing past seeing Alex on the side, like how
- 12:15Speaker 2: that fads to them mentally, then they have to get
- 12:19Speaker 2: themselves like the adrenaline pumping again to then go and
- 12:23Speaker 2: line up on the grid to then rerase once again.
- 12:26Speaker 2: And if Zaker is already saying that he recognized he
- 12:28Speaker 2: wasn't feeling it, then that crash happened, Like obviously it's
- 12:33Speaker 2: it's a combination of things. But do you think that
- 12:38Speaker 2: the right high devices should be like that should change
- 12:42Speaker 2: now or is this just the term one Catalunia.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Mess I don't think it's in either or. I think
- 12:48Speaker 3: both are true, right and for the simple reason that Okay,
- 12:51Speaker 3: so we know the launch devices are going to be
- 12:53Speaker 3: banned for next year, It's one of those things that
- 12:56Speaker 3: these factories spend a massive amount of money on, and
- 12:58Speaker 3: they basically all are at the same conclusion, so no
- 13:02Speaker 3: one's getting a benefit out of you know, there's not
- 13:04Speaker 3: really someone's ride height device or launch device is better
- 13:07Speaker 3: than somebody else's. Something they all have because it's a
- 13:09Speaker 3: performance gain, But then everyone gets the same performance gain.
- 13:13Speaker 3: So part of me is thinking, A, we're wasting money
- 13:15Speaker 3: on something that provides no tangible benefit. B. They're all
- 13:18Speaker 3: being banned for next year anyway, and see if there's
- 13:21Speaker 3: a safety element to all of this. If it's adding
- 13:24Speaker 3: nothing really to the show in verticma's the show, why
- 13:27Speaker 3: are we doing it? It doesn't make any sense to
- 13:29Speaker 3: me from a financial point of view and a safety
- 13:31Speaker 3: point of view. If everyone's just arriving at the corner
- 13:34Speaker 3: at the same speed because they've all done the same thing,
- 13:37Speaker 3: then what are we actually doing this for. If we
- 13:38Speaker 3: can take some sort of safety element out of this.
- 13:41Speaker 3: The other factor with this particular circuit, this is one
- 13:44Speaker 3: of those race starts each year that maybe more than
- 13:46Speaker 3: any other track, I kind of watch with a little
- 13:48Speaker 3: bit of trepidation because it's five hundred and ninety five
- 13:53Speaker 3: meters from the start line to the first corner or
- 13:54Speaker 3: the breaking zone, and cattaloona. I know this because I've
- 13:56Speaker 3: written it seven hundred times in the last week. It's
- 13:59Speaker 3: the longest to turn one on the calendar. And the
- 14:01Speaker 3: problem with the start line being so close to the
- 14:04Speaker 3: last corner. By the time the bikes get down to
- 14:07Speaker 3: turn one, they are at absolute full speed. They're doing
- 14:11Speaker 3: three hundred k's an hour, and they haven't breaked yet,
- 14:14Speaker 3: so everyone's still got their launch device down where you
- 14:17Speaker 3: break it. Term one is if you're at the front
- 14:20Speaker 3: of the pack, great, take your doll breaking marker.
- 14:22Speaker 4: That's fine.
- 14:23Speaker 3: If you're in the pack as they all fan out
- 14:25Speaker 3: across the track there, you're getting sucked in by the arrow,
- 14:28Speaker 3: so your breaking marker can be distorted because you're probably
- 14:31Speaker 3: arriving there quicker than you would want to be. You
- 14:34Speaker 3: haven't actually disengaged launch device yet, and so when you're
- 14:37Speaker 3: in the pack. We see accidents here all the time.
- 14:40Speaker 3: We saw one twenty four hours earlier in the sprint
- 14:42Speaker 3: because De jan Antonio checked up into Brad Bender, who
- 14:45Speaker 3: took out Juanmir and two guys went down. Two years ago,
- 14:49Speaker 3: Inee Bastien Andi smashed himself into a million bits at
- 14:51Speaker 3: the first quarter because he completely missed his breaking marker
- 14:53Speaker 3: only broke his wristling. He's out for about three rounds.
- 14:56Speaker 3: The year before that, Takannaka Gummy's head hit Peco Banna's
- 14:59Speaker 3: rear will similar accident where he lost it under breaks
- 15:02Speaker 3: at the same corner. It's the biggest black spot in
- 15:05Speaker 3: motor GP and so to my mind, the lack of
- 15:09Speaker 3: launch devices would be helpful. Also, could we just move
- 15:12Speaker 3: the start finished line like two hundred meters further down
- 15:15Speaker 3: the straight here? Now, it's not going to make it
- 15:17Speaker 3: safe because it's guys riding motorcycles.
- 15:19Speaker 4: It's not going to be safe.
- 15:21Speaker 3: But if the entry speed down to turn one is
- 15:24Speaker 3: two hundred and ten k's an hour and not three
- 15:26Speaker 3: hundred k's an hour, there's a degree of accident that
- 15:30Speaker 3: you're going to have that is way less severe than
- 15:33Speaker 3: what you could have at tern one. Now, is this
- 15:36Speaker 3: the correct configuration of quarters for a motor GP bike
- 15:38Speaker 3: in twenty twenty six? Probably not, but we go there.
- 15:41Speaker 3: We know the risk here. But to my mind, does
- 15:43Speaker 3: the start finish line need to be where it is?
- 15:45Speaker 3: And Jack Miller said this on Sunday after the race.
- 15:47Speaker 3: It's like we've brought this up for years, like the
- 15:49Speaker 3: run down to term one is too long with the
- 15:53Speaker 3: performance of current motor GP bikes, and so you think, okay,
- 15:57Speaker 3: what are the options to having a different start now.
- 15:59Speaker 3: In car racing, you can have a safety car start, obviously,
- 16:01Speaker 3: because that's the way it works. They're all single file
- 16:03Speaker 3: or two abreast or whatever it is. That's not feasible
- 16:06Speaker 3: for motorbikes. So let's not even talk about that. You
- 16:08Speaker 3: can't really have a rolling start motorcycle racing. Let's be honest,
- 16:11Speaker 3: you're never going to make Term one at Catalunya's safe.
- 16:14Speaker 3: You can make it safer than it currently is by
- 16:17Speaker 3: just making instead of it being five hundred and ninety
- 16:20Speaker 3: five meters, make it a three hundred meter run to
- 16:21Speaker 3: the first corner. The bikes aren't in fifth gear, they
- 16:24Speaker 3: are pushing three hundred ks an hour, and you get
- 16:27Speaker 3: the start devices disengaged. It makes it safer, not safe,
- 16:30Speaker 3: but safer. It just seems like an unnecessary risk to me.
- 16:34Speaker 2: For those listening who might not know this. On Thursday,
- 16:39Speaker 2: riders who choose to can go and have a meeting
- 16:42Speaker 2: with Erta. It's the Safety Commission, and they because a
- 16:45Speaker 2: lot of these riders have been to these tracks a
- 16:47Speaker 2: billion times, they know they'll go and do a walk
- 16:50Speaker 2: around the track and then they'll go and raise any
- 16:52Speaker 2: concerns that they have. And clearly we know that Jack
- 16:55Speaker 2: has done that before. So it's a situation where how yeah,
- 17:02Speaker 2: they listened to the writers because they're the ones that
- 17:04Speaker 2: are on the track. But also it's not the first
- 17:08Speaker 2: time this has happened, So why is it now in
- 17:10Speaker 2: twenty twenty six and they're still bringing up the same
- 17:13Speaker 2: safety concerns?
- 17:14Speaker 3: Right, That's exactly the point. The fact that I've just
- 17:17Speaker 3: I detailed three different accidents at the first quarter. I mean, hell,
- 17:21Speaker 3: let's go back even further. I'm pretty sure Chris was
- 17:23Speaker 3: in this race the Sete Jibbidaw won there many many
- 17:26Speaker 3: years ago. That was tenpin bowling at the first corner
- 17:28Speaker 3: at Catalonia as well. That's like two thousand and seven
- 17:31Speaker 3: or something. I can't remember the exact year off the
- 17:32Speaker 3: top of my head. We've been talking about this at
- 17:34Speaker 3: this track for nearly twenty years, Like, so what are
- 17:36Speaker 3: we actually doing? Like it seems like we get there,
- 17:39Speaker 3: everyone's like oh, there might be a pile up at
- 17:41Speaker 3: term one, and then there's a pile up at turn
- 17:42Speaker 3: one and everyone goes huh, and then we'll get there
- 17:44Speaker 3: next year, nothing will happen. I don't get it. I
- 17:46Speaker 3: just don't see if the track's going to stay on
- 17:49Speaker 3: the calendar. Now here's a separate podcast for fourteen podcasts
- 17:51Speaker 3: down the track. Do we need four grod prix in Spain? Well,
- 17:54Speaker 3: I don't know, but it seems to me that we
- 17:57Speaker 3: know of this risk and we just willingly go into
- 17:59Speaker 3: these weekends and kind of cross their fingers and hope
- 18:01Speaker 3: it doesn't happen.
- 18:01Speaker 4: That just seems a bit dumb for modern day motor
- 18:04Speaker 4: GP For me.
- 18:05Speaker 2: No, exactly. And I think there's there's the fact that
- 18:08Speaker 2: we go to this track and we know that those concerns,
- 18:11Speaker 2: and I've brought this up a few times and people
- 18:13Speaker 2: are gonna they can go at me in the comments.
- 18:15Speaker 2: But the fact that then people will say their thoughts
- 18:19Speaker 2: and opinions about the street circuit in Adelaide, where it's
- 18:22Speaker 2: going to be like purposely designed so that you know
- 18:26Speaker 2: it is like how can we make it so it's
- 18:28Speaker 2: a win win situation for everybody and I think it's
- 18:30Speaker 2: just a case of if it's simply moving the start
- 18:33Speaker 2: finished straight so that we're not having such severe accidents
- 18:37Speaker 2: like we did in this case. It was the Zarko
- 18:40Speaker 2: Banyaya one. Like, that's that's its own thing. We'll talk
- 18:43Speaker 2: about Alex and Pedro at a second. But if we
- 18:46Speaker 2: can just make that small change, okay for sure, But
- 18:49Speaker 2: is that going to happen? I don't know. If me
- 18:51Speaker 2: and you get on the board to Montmelos circuit, we
- 18:54Speaker 2: can go and change that.
- 18:56Speaker 3: But this is the thing with it right, Like, we're
- 18:58Speaker 3: not we're talking about a chain. It's actually a pretty
- 19:00Speaker 3: easy change to implement, and it's actually not that hard.
- 19:03Speaker 3: Move the half finished line closer to the first corner,
- 19:06Speaker 3: reduced to speed going to the first corner. The race
- 19:08Speaker 3: is still the same number of laps, the same number
- 19:10Speaker 3: of kilometers, The right guys will still win. We're just
- 19:13Speaker 3: reducing a proven risk. This is not the first time
- 19:17Speaker 3: this has happened here. It probably won't be the last
- 19:18Speaker 3: if we don't change it. It's a really easy tweak
- 19:21Speaker 3: to make. The riders are going to be on board
- 19:23Speaker 3: about this. It's going to look just as good on TV.
- 19:25Speaker 3: Let's just take the unnecessary danger out of it. It just
- 19:27Speaker 3: seems a bit dumb to me.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Let's move on from this because the frustration rising your breath.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Bus Yeah, I just want to touch quickly on the
- 19:39Speaker 2: Alex and Pedro incident, okay, or we will see in it.
- 19:43Speaker 2: We've all seen the replays, we will see the photos.
- 19:45Speaker 2: I don't necessarily want to talk about that. I want
- 19:47Speaker 2: to ask your opinion and clarify for the listeners what
- 19:51Speaker 2: exactly happened with Pedro's bike? What was the outcome there?
- 19:55Speaker 3: Yeah, so it sounds like there's an electronic s glitches.
- 19:58Speaker 3: He's probably going up through the gearbox, I would say.
- 20:00Speaker 3: So something some alarm or some safety thing has basically
- 20:03Speaker 3: shut itself down. And you can see if you rewatch
- 20:06Speaker 3: the how the accident commenced, which I did. A Costa
- 20:09Speaker 3: realizes there's an issue and his first instincts put his
- 20:12Speaker 3: hand up. Now, Unfortunately Alex Marquez was so close behind him,
- 20:17Speaker 3: and so whether it's hit a false neutral or whether
- 20:19Speaker 3: it's not gone up until the next gear, the time
- 20:22Speaker 3: that he took to realize there was a problem and
- 20:24Speaker 3: raise his hand. The closing speed of these things, as
- 20:26Speaker 3: you know, is so immense. So if at that point
- 20:29Speaker 3: Alex Marquez is doing thirty five to forty k's an
- 20:33Speaker 3: hour faster than a Costa, because a Costa's got a problem.
- 20:36Speaker 3: This is the problem with you being under the bubble,
- 20:40Speaker 3: sucked into the slipstream like this, you're going to be
- 20:42Speaker 3: the first person to avoid the accident. I thought he
- 20:44Speaker 3: did amazingly well Alex to not run clean.
- 20:47Speaker 4: Square up the back of Pedro Costa.
- 20:49Speaker 3: The fact that he was able to slightly duck out
- 20:51Speaker 3: from behind him and hit the side of a Costa's bike,
- 20:54Speaker 3: that was the thing that saved a Costa quite frankly.
- 20:56Speaker 3: So it's a technical issue for a Costa. You mentioned
- 21:00Speaker 3: the Adelaide street circuit thing here, and this is something
- 21:03Speaker 3: that I was hoping that we would get to because
- 21:05Speaker 3: this is not a ranch. This is just an opinion.
- 21:07Speaker 4: But bear with me here.
- 21:09Speaker 3: There's a lot of people that were conflating the fact
- 21:12Speaker 3: that Alex Marquez ran up the back of Pedro Costa
- 21:14Speaker 3: and had a massive accident as a reason why we
- 21:17Speaker 3: should never have motor GP at street circuits. Now, should
- 21:20Speaker 3: we have motor GP at street circuits, that's a separate discussion.
- 21:23Speaker 3: I have my thoughts on that. I am probably more
- 21:25Speaker 3: averse to having street circuits than anything else. To my mind,
- 21:29Speaker 3: this accident, it was not a human error by a costa.
- 21:31Speaker 3: It was a bike malfunction. That accident could happen at
- 21:35Speaker 3: any part of any lap of any racetrack around the world.
- 21:38Speaker 3: It could happen at a permanent race circuit. It could
- 21:40Speaker 3: happen in a street circuit. It could happen at a
- 21:43Speaker 3: circuit that nobody in motor GP likes at Hungary, let's
- 21:46Speaker 3: not talk about that. It could happen at a circuit
- 21:48Speaker 3: that we absolutely love in motor GP, like Phillip Island.
- 21:51Speaker 3: It could happen there, you know where it could happen.
- 21:53Speaker 3: That really scares me. Imagine coming over the brow at
- 21:56Speaker 3: the top of the start finished straight at Bagello where
- 21:58Speaker 3: they are doing three one hundred and sixty k's an
- 22:01Speaker 3: hour and a bike with another bike right behind it
- 22:05Speaker 3: has a technical issue and dramatically slows down. That's an
- 22:09Speaker 3: airplane accident if that happens. And so this is not
- 22:12Speaker 3: something that well, we shouldn't go to street circuits because
- 22:14Speaker 3: this could happen at a street circuit. It could happen
- 22:16Speaker 3: at any circuit on any quarter at any time. For
- 22:19Speaker 3: all we could have known, a Costa could have had
- 22:21Speaker 3: that issue at turn five at Barcelona where the bikes
- 22:24Speaker 3: are rolling through and you have a pathetic slow speed
- 22:27Speaker 3: fifty five k at hour accident and everyone gets up
- 22:30Speaker 3: and they're annoyed with each other, and we're not talking
- 22:32Speaker 3: about the sorts of injuries. It could happen anywhere, because
- 22:35Speaker 3: these are machines that, unfortunately can have glitches and break down.
- 22:39Speaker 3: If a Costa was thirteenth in the field and he
- 22:42Speaker 3: had no one running behind him and that issue happens,
- 22:44Speaker 3: everyone goes, oh, Pedro Costa broke down. He's out of
- 22:46Speaker 3: the race, so whatt No one discusses it. So it
- 22:49Speaker 3: was the absolute perfect storm of time place where it
- 22:53Speaker 3: happened in an acceleration zone, out of a corder, going
- 22:56Speaker 3: down a back straight everything. As much as you said before,
- 22:58Speaker 3: someone was looking down on motor on Sunday, there was
- 23:02Speaker 3: a lot of bad luck that had to happen for
- 23:03Speaker 3: that accident to happen in the first place. But to
- 23:06Speaker 3: use the consequences of that accident to say this is
- 23:09Speaker 3: why we shouldn't have street circuits and we shouldn't be
- 23:11Speaker 3: going to Adelaide. Do I think we should have street
- 23:13Speaker 3: circuits that should we be going to Adelaide is a
- 23:15Speaker 3: separate discussion for me, But I don't think you can
- 23:17Speaker 3: conflate one with the other. I just think this accident
- 23:19Speaker 3: could happen anywhere anytime.
- 23:22Speaker 2: I think you're right. Alex dodged Pedro and did like
- 23:26Speaker 2: the absolute best he could.
- 23:27Speaker 4: Incredible.
- 23:28Speaker 2: You know, these guys are having like split second decisions
- 23:32Speaker 2: to make these calls. The fact that he then obviously
- 23:37Speaker 2: went over onto the grass there's like a random bit
- 23:39Speaker 2: of concrete, there's like a like a service rodentially onto
- 23:42Speaker 2: the track, and then that messed the bike up. And
- 23:44Speaker 2: then the fact that he had to then make another
- 23:46Speaker 2: decision to jump off the bike, so we avoided hitting
- 23:49Speaker 2: a wall right there. You think what he went through
- 23:53Speaker 2: in the shortest amount of time possible is absolutely phenomenal.
- 23:59Speaker 2: And the fact that he is walking away with a
- 24:01Speaker 2: fracture to his vertebrae and injury to his scapula, which
- 24:06Speaker 2: I believe is colarbone. That's it. So that's all played
- 24:09Speaker 2: it up and he's going to be good. We know
- 24:10Speaker 2: that people have surgeries or he Lorenzo had surgery and
- 24:13Speaker 2: his collarbone was back racing like literally the following week.
- 24:16Speaker 2: So the fact that he walked away with that limited injury,
- 24:20Speaker 2: obviously in a really bad concussion too, on top of that,
- 24:24Speaker 2: absolutely phenomenal. Just to make those decisions. Someone the other
- 24:28Speaker 2: day spilt a coffee and I went to catch it
- 24:32Speaker 2: and I couldn't because I froze, because I you know,
- 24:34Speaker 2: I couldn't make a decision like that in that amount
- 24:36Speaker 2: of time. The fact that they're doing it at those
- 24:39Speaker 2: speeds and everything else that's happening on our motorg you
- 24:41Speaker 2: people like at the exact same time blows my mind.
- 24:44Speaker 3: And the other thing about circuits too, Like you think
- 24:47Speaker 3: of every single if you picture in your mind every
- 24:49Speaker 3: single bridge shot at the start of a Grand Prix,
- 24:51Speaker 3: what do we have on either side of the group.
- 24:53Speaker 3: We have walls, right, So this accident, the fact that
- 24:56Speaker 3: it happened on a strait, generally we don't get crashes
- 24:59Speaker 3: on straights. We get crash in corners. And so just
- 25:02Speaker 3: for the safety of the separating the pit lane from
- 25:05Speaker 3: the track, or the wall that separates the grandstands from
- 25:07Speaker 3: the track, every single motor GP track has two walls
- 25:10Speaker 3: either side of the start, finish line. It just is
- 25:12Speaker 3: some of the walls are further back from the actual tarmac,
- 25:14Speaker 3: like Philip Island's a good example on the left hand
- 25:17Speaker 3: side of your TV.
- 25:18Speaker 4: Picture if you're looking at it from that way.
- 25:19Speaker 3: But there's walls everywhere, because we don't have accidents on
- 25:21Speaker 3: straits generally, do we. So the fact that this situation
- 25:26Speaker 3: where Acostas bike had and malfunction and was the catalyst
- 25:30Speaker 3: for the accident, that accident could have happened at any
- 25:32Speaker 3: track anywhere. It were just incredibly unlucky for everyone involved
- 25:36Speaker 3: that it happened there, unlucky but lucky at the same time.
- 25:39Speaker 3: But to think this is the sort of accident that
- 25:41Speaker 3: could only happen at certain circuits, No, it could happen anywhere.
- 25:46Speaker 2: Like I said, I'm just so happy that these writers
- 25:48Speaker 2: are able to walk away with minute injuries compared to
- 25:52Speaker 2: what we actually saw. And like I said, I don't
- 25:55Speaker 2: want to go into it. You've all seen the fairiers,
- 25:56Speaker 2: you've all seen the videos. You know what's happened there.
- 26:00Speaker 2: The thing I do want to go into that was frustrating.
- 26:05Speaker 2: What is it with this weekend? The frustration entire pressure
- 26:08Speaker 2: penalties was six in the end and obviously Jack Miller.
- 26:13Speaker 2: One of them is Juanmir Hi was on the podium,
- 26:16Speaker 2: and then you have that whole DeBakey afterwards with the
- 26:19Speaker 2: trophy going blah blah blah. It's annoying. It's annoying because
- 26:24Speaker 2: we're seeing races where the strategies having to come into play,
- 26:29Speaker 2: but it's not the strategy that we're wanting to come
- 26:31Speaker 2: into play, you know completely.
- 26:34Speaker 3: And also because this race, you know, at the end
- 26:36Speaker 3: of it, you've got two restarts, so the actual Grod
- 26:38Speaker 3: Prix last of for twenty minutes, and obviously you know
- 26:41Speaker 3: someone like jeanmir spent the entire race basically right behind somebody.
- 26:45Speaker 3: It was a Costa early and it was the Janetodio
- 26:48Speaker 3: at the end, he was right there in traffic. You
- 26:50Speaker 3: could not have done more to actually get your tire
- 26:52Speaker 3: pressure up because he was in traffic the entire time.
- 26:56Speaker 3: But there's a whole you know, it's a shorter race.
- 26:58Speaker 3: It was much cooler in Cattle that it always for
- 27:00Speaker 3: the Grand Privich is kind of weird on the Sunday,
- 27:03Speaker 3: and so even as it was going on, like Jack
- 27:05Speaker 3: Miller said after the race, he said, I was trying
- 27:07Speaker 3: absolutely everything to get the tire pressure up. But you know,
- 27:10Speaker 3: when you have the quick restart procedure, you have a
- 27:12Speaker 3: short race, you have cooler track conditions.
- 27:14Speaker 4: It doesn't matter whether.
- 27:15Speaker 3: You're riding in a heaper traffic or not, it's probably
- 27:18Speaker 3: going to happen. But you love This is like a
- 27:21Speaker 3: classic motor GP story. So you mentioned the six riders
- 27:23Speaker 3: that were up for penalties at the end of the race.
- 27:25Speaker 3: Five of them were penalized. Mere lost a podium out
- 27:28Speaker 3: of it and was punted right the way down to
- 27:30Speaker 3: thirteenth or something or other. The one rider that a
- 27:33Speaker 3: got away with it getting a high pressure penalty and
- 27:35Speaker 3: b inherited a podium because of Juanmer getting punted down.
- 27:38Speaker 3: The order was Pecobannaya. Do you know how they so
- 27:42Speaker 3: Decadi said that they had a leaking wheel?
- 27:45Speaker 4: Rim? Right?
- 27:47Speaker 3: Do you know how they test it to prove that
- 27:48Speaker 3: he had a leaking wheel?
- 27:49Speaker 2: Rim?
- 27:49Speaker 4: Do you know what the test is?
- 27:52Speaker 3: They feel a weely binful of water and they drop
- 27:55Speaker 3: the wheel into the weely binful of water and if
- 27:58Speaker 3: you see bubbles, guess what.
- 27:59Speaker 4: There's a leap.
- 28:00Speaker 3: There's a hole in the there's a hole in the rim.
- 28:02Speaker 2: The fact that we're raising protos hype bikes, and then
- 28:05Speaker 2: they have to do that as.
- 28:06Speaker 3: The testing, bring out the wheelibin, get the hose out
- 28:10Speaker 3: and fill it full of water. It just seems so
- 28:13Speaker 3: low tech compared to what Moto GP is. And they
- 28:15Speaker 3: saw the bubbles coming up and went, look see the
- 28:17Speaker 3: wheel RIM's got a hole in it, And they went, oh,
- 28:19Speaker 3: so it does.
- 28:19Speaker 4: It's got to crack at it.
- 28:20Speaker 3: So therefore you don't have a high pressure penalty. Therefore
- 28:22Speaker 3: you can keep your podium. Yeah, of all the nine
- 28:26Speaker 3: hundred and seventeen ridiculous things that happened on Sunday, we're
- 28:28Speaker 3: getting the wheely bit out to decide who's on a podium.
- 28:31Speaker 4: What are we doing.
- 28:35Speaker 2: I can't believe that that's the test for it, that
- 28:37Speaker 2: it's so high at the high tech.
- 28:39Speaker 3: And you know that I've got all the big news
- 28:43Speaker 3: for you, including news about wheelibins.
- 28:45Speaker 4: I'm your man.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Crackhouse did not have a good weekend as this weekend either,
- 28:52Speaker 2: So I want to talk about this because Raoul Fernandez
- 28:58Speaker 2: getting away with no penalty taking out Joge Martin, then
- 29:03Speaker 2: obviously Iyagura getting penalized for taking out Pedro Acosta. What
- 29:08Speaker 2: on Earth. I rewatched the role Fernandez move and I
- 29:14Speaker 2: was like, I was a bit on the borderline with that.
- 29:18Speaker 2: I don't necessarily agree with what the stewards decided. I'm
- 29:21Speaker 2: not stewards, so that's not fully up to them, but
- 29:24Speaker 2: the fact that it was both UH track House Bikes
- 29:29Speaker 2: that then had the the what am I trying to say?
- 29:32Speaker 2: They had a messed up weekend? But then Martin coming
- 29:35Speaker 2: back in with that frustration and taking out on his
- 29:39Speaker 2: team bucover Zechi further down the field. Not a good
- 29:43Speaker 2: weekend for a prilier.
- 29:45Speaker 4: Yeah, it was.
- 29:46Speaker 3: The Bazeki thing didn't necessarily surprise me because historically this
- 29:50Speaker 3: is a pretty poor track for him, do you know
- 29:52Speaker 3: before Sunday where with all the penalties he ended up
- 29:55Speaker 3: inheriting fourth, like the least merited fourth place of all time,
- 29:59Speaker 3: and like best has been awesome this year, so he
- 30:01Speaker 3: was due. It was probably due a bit of a
- 30:03Speaker 3: rope race. You know, we never finished better than ninth
- 30:05Speaker 3: in a Grand Prix there in all the time he'd
- 30:06Speaker 3: been there. It's just not a Bazeki track. He was
- 30:09Speaker 3: a bit off the entire weekend ball Yeah, crashed and qualified,
- 30:12Speaker 3: Belly made it into Q two Martine. That was his
- 30:16Speaker 3: fifth crash of the weekend, and he was really erratic
- 30:20Speaker 3: the entire weekend, and you do wonder, like, we love
- 30:24Speaker 3: the fact that Jorge Martin tries so hard. Sometimes Jorge
- 30:28Speaker 3: Martin tries a little bit too hard in that there's
- 30:30Speaker 3: that thin line, but sometimes he will go the other
- 30:34Speaker 3: side of the line. And so five crashes over the
- 30:36Speaker 3: course of the weekend, you do wonder what's going through
- 30:38Speaker 3: his head. And even if there was sub talk that
- 30:40Speaker 3: one of the crashes on Friday, they're a bit of
- 30:42Speaker 3: concussion there, so you know, again motor GP could concussion protocol.
- 30:45Speaker 3: That's kind of interesting. But five crashes over the course
- 30:48Speaker 3: of the weekend, Yeah, he was super fired up when
- 30:51Speaker 3: he got back to the pits. Now shoving your own
- 30:53Speaker 3: team manager probably not great the other and he was
- 30:57Speaker 3: pretty contrite about it afterwards once he'd actually calmed down.
- 31:00Speaker 3: But the image of the race for me, Masimo Rivela
- 31:04Speaker 3: walking down to track house Aprilia during the race and
- 31:07Speaker 3: looking at Davide Brivio and giving him the wag of
- 31:10Speaker 3: the finger like now, come on, like, we're all in
- 31:12Speaker 3: the same team here, what are we doing? I thought
- 31:15Speaker 3: that was super interesting for a couple of reasons. It's like,
- 31:18Speaker 3: the reason you have a great bike is that we've
- 31:20Speaker 3: given you a great bike and David Abrivia and we
- 31:23Speaker 3: know you're leaving at the end of the year anyway.
- 31:25Speaker 3: So there was a bit of it felt like a
- 31:27Speaker 3: dad scolding a kid that had been misbehaving. It's like,
- 31:29Speaker 3: you better put your head in here, like we don't
- 31:31Speaker 3: want to see any more of this. But the subtext
- 31:33Speaker 3: to all of this, of course, is that Fernandez is
- 31:35Speaker 3: fighting for his career right he doesn't have it. He
- 31:37Speaker 3: doesn't have a contract for next year, he doesn't have
- 31:39Speaker 3: it often necessarily for next year. Brivio's been a bit
- 31:42Speaker 3: of a champion of Fernandez, like he's talking him up
- 31:44Speaker 3: a fair bit since he's been in there. And right now,
- 31:47Speaker 3: if Ralph Fernandez isn't on the grid for Apriliad, does
- 31:49Speaker 3: he get a ride next year? And so probably not.
- 31:52Speaker 3: So there's a little bit of desperation that's trying to
- 31:54Speaker 3: creep in a little bit there, and I thought, you
- 31:56Speaker 3: add all those things together, I was astonished that there
- 31:59Speaker 3: wasn't a penalty for the Martine incident. The one that
- 32:02Speaker 3: amazed me even more Gura got a three second penalty
- 32:06Speaker 3: for completely punting a Costra in the last quarter. To
- 32:10Speaker 3: my mind, that's you know, if that happens earlier in
- 32:12Speaker 3: the race, that's at least one long lap. It might
- 32:15Speaker 3: have even been a double long lap. It was a
- 32:17Speaker 3: really it was a weird outer character thing for a Gura.
- 32:20Speaker 3: He's not that sort of ride, and normally it was
- 32:22Speaker 3: also just really reckless. I was amazed that he only
- 32:25Speaker 3: got a three second penalty for that. To my mind,
- 32:27Speaker 3: that should have been you get a long lap at
- 32:28Speaker 3: the next race penalty. That was pretty bad. Yeah, weird
- 32:32Speaker 3: weekend for them after how amazing Lamon had been like
- 32:36Speaker 3: seven days before at a Prillier was kind of nowhere
- 32:38Speaker 3: for the whole weekend, weren't.
- 32:39Speaker 2: They, Which is funny because like historically you'd say this
- 32:44Speaker 2: is a Priliers track.
- 32:45Speaker 3: Think of yeah, their track, Yeah yeah, I mean.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Is celebrating a lap early will always go down in
- 32:53Speaker 2: the bus the latter Grand Prix history.
- 32:56Speaker 3: It's sure, well, oh my god, if anyone should know
- 32:58Speaker 3: they grew Spargo's grew up so close to that circuit.
- 33:01Speaker 3: By the way, I remember Pole used to tell me
- 33:03Speaker 3: a couple of times where he said he could he
- 33:06Speaker 3: could hear the bikes of the track, like before he
- 33:08Speaker 3: was old enough to actually be there racing anything. It's like, oh,
- 33:10Speaker 3: it's Friday. Also, I in my like morning recess and
- 33:13Speaker 3: I could hear the bikes of the track. They should
- 33:15Speaker 3: know that track better than anyone. That was Oh my god, Ol,
- 33:18Speaker 3: he's never going to leave that one dawn is he.
- 33:20Speaker 2: He's never going to live that one down. I don't
- 33:26Speaker 2: know if you've had the latest on Peko Vanyaya, but
- 33:30Speaker 2: after Monday's test, because Moto GP had an official test
- 33:33Speaker 2: at Circuit Barcelona, Catalonia on the Monday, Pego Vanyaya was
- 33:38Speaker 2: saying that he felt like something wasn't right in his wrist.
- 33:41Speaker 2: Also after that term one collision. I posted about it
- 33:43Speaker 2: yesterday on Fox Motorsport. But that's kind of really interesting
- 33:49Speaker 2: in the fact that you know, we often know that
- 33:51Speaker 2: skafoids are in trouble with these Moto GP riders and
- 33:55Speaker 2: it's something that they can easily break. So have you
- 33:57Speaker 2: heard anymore on Peko Vanyaya with that.
- 34:00Speaker 4: Yeah, no, more than that.
- 34:02Speaker 3: I mean, the thing that was a little bit disturbing
- 34:04Speaker 3: with him after the race on Sunday was when he
- 34:06Speaker 3: said look, you know, a bit like not being mentally
- 34:08Speaker 3: ready like Zako. He said he felt a bit dizzy
- 34:10Speaker 3: during the race and he wasn't quite there, And that's
- 34:12Speaker 3: where you start wondering, how any restarts do we need
- 34:15Speaker 3: to have here before we call this off. But it
- 34:17Speaker 3: was one of those tests that you know, it was
- 34:19Speaker 3: easier to list the riders that were you know, there
- 34:22Speaker 3: were more writers missing than actually participating because there were
- 34:24Speaker 3: so many guys injured at that point. Didn't really need
- 34:26Speaker 3: a test on the Monday. But yeah, the Banyai thing,
- 34:29Speaker 3: it's I think he and Dacadi will be glad there's
- 34:33Speaker 3: not a back to back this weekend. The fact we've
- 34:35Speaker 3: got a week off is probably needed by everybody in
- 34:37Speaker 3: Motor GP right now. But he was clearly not right
- 34:39Speaker 3: during the race. I mean, we talked about Jane Antonio
- 34:41Speaker 3: winning the race. He was clearly injured. It was hard
- 34:44Speaker 3: to find people that were kind of one hundred percent
- 34:47Speaker 3: mentally or physically okay after that race. Because I was
- 34:51Speaker 3: reading you might have seen this as well. There was
- 34:53Speaker 3: a journalist friend of both of us that was talking
- 34:56Speaker 3: about just the demeanor of the riders when they came
- 34:59Speaker 3: into do their media debriefs after the two restarts on
- 35:03Speaker 3: Sunday and Luca Marini, it was almost like the adrenaline
- 35:07Speaker 3: had worn off and he was processing what had happened
- 35:10Speaker 3: over the past hour and a half when he was
- 35:11Speaker 3: doing his debrief, and he could see he's physically there's
- 35:15Speaker 3: a physical reaction, like he's physically shaking with what was
- 35:17Speaker 3: going on, remembering that him and banya had stayed with
- 35:20Speaker 3: Zako after Zarko got stuck in the back of Banyai's
- 35:22Speaker 3: bike waiting for the medicos to come and help. So, yeah,
- 35:26Speaker 3: there was a physical toll for a lot of these
- 35:28Speaker 3: guys on Sunday, but I think mentally it's one of
- 35:30Speaker 3: those you don't just wake up and get over something
- 35:33Speaker 3: like that. And even you know Fernandez, he was a
- 35:35Speaker 3: guy who was quite early on the scene with the
- 35:38Speaker 3: Marquez accident, with the amount of debris that was being
- 35:40Speaker 3: thrown through the air, and he was just getting pelted
- 35:42Speaker 3: with bits of garb and fiber and god knows what
- 35:44Speaker 3: else was coming out of that bike. So he was
- 35:46Speaker 3: actually physically sore because he'd just been getting hit by
- 35:49Speaker 3: bits of someone's bike that was being shredded through a
- 35:52Speaker 3: grass trap. So yeah, man, it was definitely the walking
- 35:55Speaker 3: wounded for that test. But the Banya, I think I've
- 35:57Speaker 3: heard the same as you that there there is problem,
- 36:00Speaker 3: but nothing that's significant enough to probably delay him. I mean,
- 36:05Speaker 3: where's the next race, Migello, He'll be there for that
- 36:07Speaker 3: because we don't how good to use there.
- 36:08Speaker 4: But yeah, it was just one of a number of
- 36:11Speaker 4: you know, we're.
- 36:12Speaker 3: What thirty eighth minutes into this podcast and we've scratched
- 36:15Speaker 3: like ten percent of the stories that came out of
- 36:17Speaker 3: Catalonia because it was just a crazy weekend from starting
- 36:20Speaker 3: to finish.
- 36:21Speaker 2: Let's look off track for a minute, let's go to
- 36:23Speaker 2: something a bit more positive. So it was announced that
- 36:27Speaker 2: KTM and tek Tois have re signed again. There was
- 36:30Speaker 2: the rumors that tech Towa we're going to move over
- 36:33Speaker 2: to Honda, but they've resigned back with KTM and going
- 36:36Speaker 2: to continue with their four writer lineup as they've previously done.
- 36:40Speaker 2: I think I was interested to see if they were
- 36:45Speaker 2: to go to Honda and it be the DOCADI having
- 36:49Speaker 2: the most satellite privateer teams, to then go to Honda
- 36:52Speaker 2: and have the most satellite private teer teams. I think
- 36:54Speaker 2: having that balance and each manufacturer now has that supporting
- 36:59Speaker 2: aspect to it. I think I think is much better
- 37:01Speaker 2: in my opinion, just to see and they can help
- 37:04Speaker 2: with the growth. But then we've got the fact of
- 37:07Speaker 2: is this weekend. Is this going to make Vinalees who
- 37:11Speaker 2: we know was kind of like their key player, and
- 37:15Speaker 2: what they were trying to do is Vinyale's going to
- 37:18Speaker 2: be reconsidering everything that he's been doing because he's been
- 37:22Speaker 2: out injured for a while and this was his first
- 37:24Speaker 2: weekend back. So what's your thoughts there with Vinalas.
- 37:28Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a couple of elements to this. I'm a
- 37:30Speaker 3: bit like you in that I didn't want to see
- 37:32Speaker 3: two manufacturers have six bikes and one manufacturer have two
- 37:35Speaker 3: bikes at any time. I think that's not great, but
- 37:38Speaker 3: particularly for twenty twenty seven, where you know, let's be honest,
- 37:41Speaker 3: it's such a clean sheet of paper, right for twenty
- 37:43Speaker 3: twenty seven with these new rules with the eight fifties,
- 37:46Speaker 3: more bikes means more data means more progress, right, And
- 37:48Speaker 3: if you have Katie and it's got two bikes, they're
- 37:51Speaker 3: just clearly going to be so far behind everybody else
- 37:54Speaker 3: just in terms of being able to understand these bikes
- 37:57Speaker 3: because it's going to take time, and you know you've
- 37:59Speaker 3: got to you've got six bikes compared to two. You're
- 38:02Speaker 3: going to get to the solution to every problem three
- 38:04Speaker 3: times faster because you've got three times of resource. So
- 38:07Speaker 3: I think it's good for the balance of the grid
- 38:09Speaker 3: that we've got this. You know, it's not super imbalanced.
- 38:11Speaker 3: I mean, ideally you have everyone having the same number,
- 38:13Speaker 3: but the fact that it could have been two manufacturers
- 38:15Speaker 3: with six bikes and one manufacturer with two that didn't
- 38:17Speaker 3: feel right for me. The really interesting part about this
- 38:21Speaker 3: now is that so we know that Tech three are
- 38:24Speaker 3: going to be a KTM team for next year, we
- 38:26Speaker 3: know the factory KTM team is pretty settled in terms
- 38:28Speaker 3: of what they're doing with their riders next year it's
- 38:30Speaker 3: going to be Alex Marquez.
- 38:31Speaker 4: And Fabio to Joan Antonio.
- 38:33Speaker 3: The knock on effects for all of this with the
- 38:36Speaker 3: rider market that you know everything's officially unofficial as we
- 38:39Speaker 3: know what that now does in terms of there's a
- 38:43Speaker 3: lot of really legit motor GP race winning riders that
- 38:47Speaker 3: are now out of contract, and it's like the game
- 38:50Speaker 3: of musical chairs, right, there's not that many chairs left
- 38:52Speaker 3: in the game at this point, and there's a lot
- 38:54Speaker 3: of guys with good credentials and history in this sport
- 38:57Speaker 3: that are going to miss out, like Alex Rinz is
- 38:59Speaker 3: clearly on the out or with Yamaha.
- 39:01Speaker 4: We know that.
- 39:02Speaker 3: It's really interesting for me to Katie and what do
- 39:04Speaker 3: they do now? Because they've got this lineup like Bastigini
- 39:08Speaker 3: and Vinals for a satellite team. Sounds amazing right on paper,
- 39:12Speaker 3: sounds awesome on papers. You know, two very highly credential guys,
- 39:16Speaker 3: multiple Grand Prix winners, very very fast on their day,
- 39:18Speaker 3: coming at it from different points of view. Do you
- 39:22Speaker 3: just roll out that same line up again next season
- 39:24Speaker 3: because it's been problematic. Vinals has been injured for pretty
- 39:27Speaker 3: much ten months at this point. Bastiorini is one of
- 39:31Speaker 3: the most confusing writers in Moto GP because every now
- 39:33Speaker 3: and then he gets, oh, like God, look how good
- 39:35Speaker 3: Danaya is, and then he goes missing for six weeks.
- 39:37Speaker 3: You're not quite sure what you're going to get with him.
- 39:38Speaker 4: And he kind of.
- 39:40Speaker 3: Like he kind of is what he is, like old dog,
- 39:43Speaker 3: new tricks, all that sort of stuff. He kind of
- 39:44Speaker 3: you know what bastidid is. At this point, you'd be
- 39:46Speaker 3: surprised if he was anything else. So it's really interesting
- 39:49Speaker 3: now for Tech three with Gunteresteiner at the helm there,
- 39:52Speaker 3: it's kind of a buyer's market. They can pick and
- 39:54Speaker 3: choose now what they want to do because there's a
- 39:56Speaker 3: lot of choice for them. And the interesting part for
- 40:00Speaker 3: Australian fans in all of this, and I don't know
- 40:02Speaker 3: whether this is where you are leading me, but what
- 40:03Speaker 3: the hell am going to go there? Anyway? Tech three
- 40:07Speaker 3: is one of the teams that has been linked to
- 40:09Speaker 3: Center AGS and you know, there's a lot of discussion there.
- 40:15Speaker 3: There's mutual interest from both sides. The Ages camp is interested,
- 40:19Speaker 3: Tech three are interested. To my mind, if you're going
- 40:22Speaker 3: to bring a rookie into Motor GP, next year is
- 40:25Speaker 3: almost the best year to possibly do it, because you've
- 40:28Speaker 3: got bikes that aren't as massively the power disparity between
- 40:32Speaker 3: a Motor two bike now and a current day you know,
- 40:35Speaker 3: two thousand cc Motor GP machine. You're going to eight fifties.
- 40:39Speaker 3: The bike's going to be less powerful, there's going to
- 40:41Speaker 3: be less reliance on arrow and ride height devices. They're
- 40:44Speaker 3: going to be on Perrelli tires, which all the Motor
- 40:46Speaker 3: two guys are.
- 40:46Speaker 4: Very used to riding.
- 40:48Speaker 3: If you're going to bring a rookie into Motor GP,
- 40:50Speaker 3: I would actually argue that next year is almost the
- 40:52Speaker 3: best year to do it that there's been for a
- 40:54Speaker 3: long long time because the gap between what current Motor
- 40:58Speaker 3: GP is and what Motor two is so big. It's
- 41:01Speaker 3: no surprise to me that some of these other factories
- 41:04Speaker 3: have decided that they're going to bring a.
- 41:06Speaker 4: Rookie in next year.
- 41:07Speaker 3: Hoddes bringing in David a lot, so Tocadie's going to
- 41:10Speaker 3: bring in Danny Holgado. It's a good year to bring
- 41:12Speaker 3: in fast young guys. So the question I guess with
- 41:16Speaker 3: the interest for Australian fans like, is Center ageous their
- 41:19Speaker 3: fast young guy, because there's a chance to bring that
- 41:23Speaker 3: guy now. Just reminding you by the way that Agis
- 41:25Speaker 3: is ahead of the two guys I just mentioned in
- 41:27Speaker 3: the championship, but that's by the bye. There's clearly interest
- 41:30Speaker 3: there on both sides. It's going to be super interesting.
- 41:34Speaker 3: I this is not me reporting, This is just this
- 41:37Speaker 3: gut feeling sort of adding two and two together here.
- 41:40Speaker 3: I reckon we might know a bit about Agias's future
- 41:43Speaker 3: sooner rather than later. That's just a hunch because of
- 41:45Speaker 3: the way the rider market's moving. Now, I'm assuming we're
- 41:49Speaker 3: going to get to the Jack bill and use it
- 41:50Speaker 3: a sec which we'll cover off at a second. But
- 41:52Speaker 3: to my mind this might happen sooner rather than later.
- 41:56Speaker 3: I was, like you, hoping that Cenner might have been
- 41:58Speaker 3: a little bit stronger in to Lordia, like if he
- 42:00Speaker 3: got on the podium or something, that would have done
- 42:02Speaker 3: absolute wonders for him. But you know, he was never
- 42:06Speaker 3: going to keep the stadiums went back to back Grand
- 42:07Speaker 3: Prix's won for Grand Prix in.
- 42:09Speaker 4: The last twelve months.
- 42:11Speaker 3: I don't think anyone's opinion of Stags went down over
- 42:13Speaker 3: the course of the weekend. He just is a genuine
- 42:15Speaker 3: front runner. Emoto too, now, that's just what he is.
- 42:18Speaker 3: And given what I said before, he is twenty twenty
- 42:20Speaker 3: seven a good year to bring in a young fast
- 42:22Speaker 3: guy to build with this brand new regulation set.
- 42:25Speaker 4: Yeah, probably is.
- 42:26Speaker 3: I reckon it makes him super employable. I'll be really
- 42:29Speaker 3: interested to see what happens with Tech three in the
- 42:31Speaker 3: next little while.
- 42:33Speaker 2: I read a quote and you probably heard it on
- 42:36Speaker 2: the broadcast as well, of Alicia Sparger speaking to Jack
- 42:39Speaker 2: Appleyard and Alisha was sorry. Jack was asking him about
- 42:42Speaker 2: the eight fifteenth, the new bike, and the quote from
- 42:45Speaker 2: Alisha's saying, you know, the probably tires are super grippy
- 42:48Speaker 2: and with a little bit less talk at the bottom,
- 42:50Speaker 2: you can rush a little bit into the apex. The
- 42:52Speaker 2: bike is more than ten kilos lighter and change the
- 42:54Speaker 2: direction is super good. So for the writers, they are
- 42:57Speaker 2: going to have fun and there's going to be more battles.
- 43:00Speaker 2: Everything you just said about Senna jumping up to MotoGP
- 43:03Speaker 2: like one hundred percent nail on the head because the
- 43:06Speaker 2: bike is a lot closer to what he is used
- 43:09Speaker 2: to than what the current model MENOGP bike is and
- 43:12Speaker 2: if there's these changes, if they're really ties which he's
- 43:14Speaker 2: coming from in Moto TiO, there's all the tick of
- 43:17Speaker 2: the boxes. I think, you know, you hit the nail
- 43:20Speaker 2: on the head and it would be good if we
- 43:21Speaker 2: could have Cenna on the grid. Because leading me into
- 43:25Speaker 2: the point which you just mentioned, you wrote an article
- 43:27Speaker 2: for Fox sports dot com dot au Forward slash Motorsport
- 43:30Speaker 2: about Jack Miller and his future and all year, you know,
- 43:33Speaker 2: we've been talking about how beneficial Jack has been to
- 43:36Speaker 2: this project with Yamaha, how for him is not about
- 43:39Speaker 2: winning championships. It's about banking data and testing and bringing
- 43:44Speaker 2: his knowledge across. But now, from what you've written in
- 43:48Speaker 2: the reports that we're hearing is that's not enough. Now
- 43:51Speaker 2: it's the fact that Yamaha have signed Ayagura. We believe
- 43:56Speaker 2: Jorge Martine's there, although there's another rumor coming out that
- 43:59Speaker 2: that might have changed. We've got top Rack Rascalioglu, who
- 44:03Speaker 2: in himself is already looking forward to next year because
- 44:07Speaker 2: once again he's written on Pero he's come from with bikes,
- 44:10Speaker 2: like the bike's going to suit him better. Yeah, where
- 44:14Speaker 2: does that lead Jack? If Pramaha take your drink there
- 44:17Speaker 2: are going to bring up their future writer Ethan Gavera, like,
- 44:22Speaker 2: what's your leaders with Jack? Because in your article you're
- 44:24Speaker 2: hinting that he's out.
- 44:27Speaker 3: It sounds like there's two bits of news here. We
- 44:30Speaker 3: had both heard similar rumors from similar people that Jack
- 44:33Speaker 3: might have been told at herreth that twenty twenty seven
- 44:35Speaker 3: was at an option. And look, I mean the Yamaha
- 44:39Speaker 3: has been other than somehow fabio quaateurero, somehow doing some
- 44:43Speaker 3: magical quaateurero stuff and getting some results out of this.
- 44:46Speaker 3: Jack's not exactly an outlier, and that he's the only
- 44:48Speaker 3: one that's not performing on the Yamaha because nobody else
- 44:50Speaker 3: out of the quaturo is performing on a Yamaha shows
- 44:53Speaker 3: you a good quaterurero is. But in Jack's situation, We've
- 44:57Speaker 3: said this before with Jack in that the benefits of
- 45:00Speaker 3: of what Yamaha get out of Jack ARONI going to
- 45:02Speaker 3: be realized once Jack isn't there anymore, because Jack's, you know,
- 45:05Speaker 3: thirty one years old. He's not twenty one years old anymore.
- 45:07Speaker 3: It's one of those things that when Yamaha gets good,
- 45:10Speaker 3: and they probably will at some point in the future,
- 45:12Speaker 3: he'll have his fingerprints on that. He's probably just not
- 45:14Speaker 3: going to be there to reap the benefits of it.
- 45:16Speaker 3: And we've known this now for a couple of years.
- 45:19Speaker 3: He washed out at KTM. He got the one year
- 45:21Speaker 3: deal with Pramak when they went from Ducati to Yamaha
- 45:24Speaker 3: because it was he was the last ride assigned for
- 45:27Speaker 3: twenty twenty four and it was like the ultimate marriage
- 45:29Speaker 3: of convenience, right, they needed a known quantity, Jack had
- 45:32Speaker 3: been there before, brand new project. That's all fine, and
- 45:36Speaker 3: then they decide to switch to the V four project
- 45:40Speaker 3: for twenty twenty six, which made Jack super valuable for
- 45:42Speaker 3: this year simply because he's written V fours at other
- 45:45Speaker 3: manufacturers before. He's a very very good technical mind these days,
- 45:48Speaker 3: super experienced. But these things only have a limited lifespan, right,
- 45:52Speaker 3: And you do wonder, for the reasons that I was
- 45:55Speaker 3: saying before about his next year, the right time to
- 45:57Speaker 3: bring in the fast young guy, because it's a brand
- 45:59Speaker 3: new regulations.
- 46:00Speaker 4: There was a.
- 46:01Speaker 3: Report in the Spanish version of motorsport dot Com over
- 46:04Speaker 3: the weekend with Herman Garcia Casanova, who's a very very
- 46:07Speaker 3: well connected journal with the Spanish writers, that there'll be
- 46:10Speaker 3: some sort of performance claus in Guavaro's Motor II contract
- 46:13Speaker 3: with Pramac, that he will go up. I would say
- 46:15Speaker 3: if he's in a certain position in the championship. He's
- 46:18Speaker 3: been on the podium I think three or four out
- 46:20Speaker 3: of the six races this year. He's a Motor three
- 46:23Speaker 3: champion a couple of years ago.
- 46:24Speaker 4: It's clearly very good.
- 46:26Speaker 3: It kind of just feels that you wonder if they
- 46:29Speaker 3: think it's the right time to bring their fast young
- 46:31Speaker 3: guy in, like Honda's doing, like to Catti's doing, like
- 46:34Speaker 3: everyone's got that deal with the present, but then with
- 46:38Speaker 3: an eye on the future. It feels like every manufacturers
- 46:41Speaker 3: now has got that guy like fermin Aldegerre is Decaddi's
- 46:44Speaker 3: guy in that category, right, and then you're talking about
- 46:46Speaker 3: David Alonso or Hoggado, any of these young guys. It
- 46:49Speaker 3: feels like the time to bring people in and you
- 46:51Speaker 3: just wonder that, you know, is Jack's It feels like
- 46:55Speaker 3: Jack's being squeezed out, not necessarily because of the lack
- 46:59Speaker 3: of con tribution to Yamaha, but it feels like if
- 47:02Speaker 3: you're going to do the full reset, twenty twenty seven
- 47:04Speaker 3: is a year to do it. And so what does
- 47:06Speaker 3: that mean for Jack? Does that mean that the motor
- 47:09Speaker 3: GP door is probably closed? Look, as I said before
- 47:13Speaker 3: the Game of Musical Chairs, there's not many chairs left
- 47:15Speaker 3: to sit on at this point, and so you do
- 47:17Speaker 3: wonder what that means for him. You also do wonder
- 47:20Speaker 3: if there's just a natural endpoint to this. And you know,
- 47:24Speaker 3: he said it himself this year. Yes, he's enjoying the
- 47:26Speaker 3: developmental side, but man, it's a hard slog where you're
- 47:30Speaker 3: turning up and you're you know, he made Q two
- 47:32Speaker 3: in Catalunya this weekend.
- 47:34Speaker 4: Really really good.
- 47:35Speaker 3: Effort to get into the last part of qualifying, and
- 47:38Speaker 3: then the first time the bikes came out of the
- 47:39Speaker 3: last corner, that thing is eleven k's an hour slower
- 47:42Speaker 3: in a straight line than every other bike in MotoGP
- 47:45Speaker 3: and he just gets annihilated down the strait and all
- 47:47Speaker 3: of a sudden he's seventeenth again, and so you can outperform.
- 47:51Speaker 3: You know, you've got an amazing slipstreaming. He sat by
- 47:53Speaker 3: Buzeki and Q two managed to tie himself up into
- 47:56Speaker 3: that spot. You could do that for one lap. That's great,
- 47:59Speaker 3: but there's nothing to be gained where your machine only
- 48:02Speaker 3: goes as fast as it can go, and there's nothing
- 48:04Speaker 3: that the rider is doing to necessarily mitigate what the
- 48:07Speaker 3: machine's deficiencies are, and through no fault of your road,
- 48:10Speaker 3: you just get blown away down the straight and that's
- 48:12Speaker 3: the end of it pretty much, and you can't get
- 48:13Speaker 3: results out of it. And Jack has said this year
- 48:16Speaker 3: like it's just bloody hard to turn up each week
- 48:18Speaker 3: and give it your absolute best. But there's a ceiling
- 48:21Speaker 3: to what you can do because of the machinery that
- 48:24Speaker 3: you're writing, and it's taking someone like Couaateaurero, who is
- 48:28Speaker 3: an absolute freak of Varrieta.
- 48:29Speaker 4: He's unbelievable Coaturroo.
- 48:30Speaker 3: What he's doing on that bike this year is kind
- 48:32Speaker 3: of just hilarious at this point because it shouldn't be anywhere
- 48:35Speaker 3: dear doing what it's doing. But you look at the
- 48:37Speaker 3: other guys that are riding the Yamaha's top. Brack is
- 48:39Speaker 3: a rookie, but he's a three time World Superbike champion
- 48:42Speaker 3: and Alex Runs has one six Grand Prix. So no
- 48:44Speaker 3: matter what you think of Alex Rans in twenty twenty six,
- 48:46Speaker 3: he's a very very good writer. It has been for
- 48:47Speaker 3: a long while, and no one else other than Fabia
- 48:50Speaker 3: can ring a lap time out of that thing. So
- 48:53Speaker 3: you just wonder whether the jack timers sort of come
- 48:56Speaker 3: to its natural conclusion. And then, as I also wrote
- 48:59Speaker 3: in the same piece, you may be getting to but
- 49:00Speaker 3: I'm going to go there anyway. I do wonder about
- 49:04Speaker 3: the composition of.
- 49:06Speaker 4: The Motor GP grid.
- 49:07Speaker 3: And you know, this big in the social space, like
- 49:09Speaker 3: what's one of the most common things that Australian fans
- 49:11Speaker 3: say about Motor GP. It's the Spanish Italian Championship, right,
- 49:14Speaker 3: there's so many Spanish and Italian writers. I think I
- 49:17Speaker 3: worked out this fifteen out of the twenty two this year,
- 49:20Speaker 3: and it's going to be pretty similar next year, because yes,
- 49:23Speaker 3: you might be losing Rinz or perhaps Vignalees or somebody.
- 49:26Speaker 3: But Holgado's come again, right, that's going to happen. Guavara's
- 49:29Speaker 3: come again, that's going to happen, So he's still going
- 49:31Speaker 3: to have that representation. I just wonder with liberty media
- 49:35Speaker 3: going forward, We've already got no Americans on the grid,
- 49:37Speaker 3: We've already got no British writers on the grid. Do
- 49:40Speaker 3: we want a grid of absolutely no native language English
- 49:44Speaker 3: language speakers on the grid for a liberty area, for
- 49:47Speaker 3: an era, for an American media company that's going to
- 49:49Speaker 3: be running Motor GP. Brad Binder is looking super sketchy
- 49:53Speaker 3: to stay on the grid too, And we'll give Brad
- 49:56Speaker 3: the hontery English speaking South African role as well.
- 49:58Speaker 4: In all of this, I.
- 50:00Speaker 3: Just can't see how the sport goes forward being accused
- 50:04Speaker 3: even more of being the Spanish Italian Championship in a
- 50:07Speaker 3: liberty media world.
- 50:08Speaker 4: I just don't really see that happening.
- 50:10Speaker 3: So in a roundabout way, you do wonder if that
- 50:12Speaker 3: helps a little bit with the center AGEUS case, because
- 50:16Speaker 3: he is the best, fastest young guy who's in, who
- 50:20Speaker 3: ticks a lot of the boxes that someone like Liberty
- 50:22Speaker 3: might like. I don't think it's the reason that Senner
- 50:25Speaker 3: gets to murder GP if he gets there. It's not
- 50:27Speaker 3: the sole reason, but it's not nothing. It's going to
- 50:30Speaker 3: be a factor if it comes to how do we
- 50:34Speaker 3: diversify the grid, how do we get more countries involved?
- 50:37Speaker 3: And oh, by the way, there's this new racid Adelaide
- 50:39Speaker 3: next year that could probably use an ambassador, right, because
- 50:42Speaker 3: that's going to be a hard sell for a lot
- 50:44Speaker 3: of people in the sport.
- 50:45Speaker 4: We're moving away.
- 50:45Speaker 3: From the best or the second best racetrack on the
- 50:48Speaker 3: calendar wherever you want to discuss Philip Island and Magello,
- 50:51Speaker 3: and as you know from being down there, it's probably
- 50:53Speaker 3: the best track in the world with the worst facilities
- 50:55Speaker 3: of any track in Motor GP. That's just what it
- 50:57Speaker 3: Issillip Island at this point. Unfortunately we've all been there.
- 51:00Speaker 3: There's the one toilet block that serves the entire paddic
- 51:04Speaker 3: including all of the riders, which is insane to say
- 51:06Speaker 3: twenty twenty six anyway, but you do wonder that with
- 51:09Speaker 3: Adelaide coming on, Adelaide's going to need to be sold
- 51:11Speaker 3: to people in motor GP because it is a controversial change,
- 51:14Speaker 3: right because you're losing philipp Island. You go to a
- 51:16Speaker 3: street track, having a local rider on the grid for
- 51:19Speaker 3: Adelaide in twenty twenty seven seems like a pretty sensible
- 51:22Speaker 3: thing for me.
- 51:25Speaker 2: You've just made so many points. I'm going to backtrack
- 51:28Speaker 2: a little bit. I'm going to go to no if
- 51:31Speaker 2: you're fine, because I'm going to move through them.
- 51:32Speaker 3: But good.
- 51:34Speaker 2: You know you mentioned the Yamaha eleven kilometers down on
- 51:38Speaker 2: the front straight. What circuit are we going to next? Magello?
- 51:42Speaker 2: Where is the top speed Magello? Like if Yamaha are
- 51:46Speaker 2: going to struggle, we know the Barcelona we said it before.
- 51:50Speaker 2: It's like skating on ice. That was your literal words.
- 51:53Speaker 2: The fact that like Jack did or the Yamahas did
- 51:55Speaker 2: what they did there is phenomenal because they already struggle
- 52:00Speaker 2: with rear grip as it is with this new bike.
- 52:03Speaker 2: So what they were able to achieve and what Fabio
- 52:05Speaker 2: is doing, honestly, take your hat off, an incredible, incredible
- 52:11Speaker 2: and to think that you know Jack's hanging in there.
- 52:13Speaker 2: I know he cops a lot of slack on socials
- 52:15Speaker 2: and whenever people, you know, we post about him and
- 52:19Speaker 2: people will be like, oh, he should get off the
- 52:21Speaker 2: grid whatnot. You don't know what's happening behind the scenes
- 52:24Speaker 2: and exactly what he's doing. But maybe this is the point.
- 52:28Speaker 2: And then like you said, Sata ageis he's young, he's
- 52:32Speaker 2: up and coming. Yeah, kind of would like him to
- 52:35Speaker 2: be a little bit more consistent so far this season,
- 52:38Speaker 2: but already we're seeing this whole new center and just
- 52:42Speaker 2: in the short time that you know, we've been doing
- 52:44Speaker 2: this stuff with Fox and Cenna's been in the World Championship,
- 52:48Speaker 2: we've seen him go from strength to strength to strength.
- 52:51Speaker 2: If that next step is about to happen and he
- 52:55Speaker 2: can make that jump and he can make it stick,
- 52:58Speaker 2: then I think he is going to be out next
- 53:01Speaker 2: Australian champion. And he's got the drive. Like for those
- 53:04Speaker 2: who don't know Senna personally, and he doesn't post much
- 53:07Speaker 2: on his socials or whatnot, he is like a horse
- 53:11Speaker 2: with the blinders on. He is just dedicated to everything
- 53:15Speaker 2: that he does, like a little inside goss to the
- 53:18Speaker 2: people at home. So Senna lives in Andorra, and I'm
- 53:22Speaker 2: here in Barcelona and it's about two hours away. And
- 53:25Speaker 2: if I'm ever like, what do you guys up to
- 53:26Speaker 2: this weekend, I guarantee you he's at Magello doing a
- 53:30Speaker 2: track day, He's at Barcelona doing track day, Valencia doing
- 53:33Speaker 2: a track day. The man does not stop training and hustling.
- 53:37Speaker 2: And I haven't seen someone as intense about it like
- 53:41Speaker 2: that in such a long time, Like he's doing whatever
- 53:44Speaker 2: he can to get that edge over his riders. Okay,
- 53:48Speaker 2: at the moment it might not necessarily be showing on track,
- 53:52Speaker 2: but like you said, he's had multiple race wins. Now
- 53:55Speaker 2: he's up there in the stands in the championship apart
- 53:58Speaker 2: from that insane thing that happened in Austin, similar to
- 54:02Speaker 2: the Pedro and Art situation. I mean the fact that
- 54:05Speaker 2: that happened, and then this weekend it's a difficult track,
- 54:09Speaker 2: it's a tricky track, but he was still in the
- 54:11Speaker 2: top ten coming out Sunday. That consistency is there. He
- 54:15Speaker 2: just needs to maybe get that to constantly be on
- 54:18Speaker 2: the prodium, constantly be on the win. But if that
- 54:20Speaker 2: door opening for Moto GP, we need that right in
- 54:23Speaker 2: next year because like you said, Adelide is coming, whether
- 54:26Speaker 2: people like it or not.
- 54:28Speaker 3: Yeah, it's gonna be a tough sell, and having a
- 54:30Speaker 3: local on the group will certainly help. Like you mentioned,
- 54:32Speaker 3: the relentlessness is something that marks him as being a
- 54:35Speaker 3: little bit different maybe to some of the other ossies
- 54:37Speaker 3: we see through or just writers generally. The other thing,
- 54:40Speaker 3: like you mentioned, the consistency thing. It's funny because consistency
- 54:44Speaker 3: is something that drives fans crazy and it drives media
- 54:46Speaker 3: people crazy. It doesn't drive the teams and the decision
- 54:50Speaker 3: makers as crazy as you might think, simply because it's
- 54:54Speaker 3: the old theory, right. You can't make a slow rider fast,
- 54:57Speaker 3: you can make a fast rider more consistent, and so
- 55:00Speaker 3: you just don't have the speed to start with. It's like, well,
- 55:02Speaker 3: that's great that you're consistent and you're finishing fifth all
- 55:04Speaker 3: the time. Congratulations. The teams aren't super interested in that.
- 55:07Speaker 3: They want to see They look at the high points,
- 55:10Speaker 3: They look at how these guys win races when they're
- 55:12Speaker 3: on their best days, and they will back themselves as
- 55:15Speaker 3: developers of talent, because don't forget, when you get to
- 55:17Speaker 3: motor GP, you are not the finished article. You are
- 55:19Speaker 3: developing the entire time you were in there, and if
- 55:22Speaker 3: your starting point on your best days is good enough
- 55:24Speaker 3: to win Grand Prix and good enough to be a
- 55:27Speaker 3: front runner, these teams will back themselves and say, will
- 55:30Speaker 3: we back our know how and managerial instinct and experience
- 55:34Speaker 3: in all of this that we will flatten out the
- 55:36Speaker 3: peaks and troughs, and then your ceiling becomes higher than
- 55:39Speaker 3: the guy who's just finishing fourth every single week. So
- 55:42Speaker 3: they'll look at the high points for the fast guys.
- 55:44Speaker 3: They're not going to bring center ageous in and go, jeez,
- 55:46Speaker 3: I hope you wish he was a bit quicker.
- 55:48Speaker 4: They're not going to.
- 55:48Speaker 3: Say that you can't make a sligh right of fast,
- 55:51Speaker 3: you just can't do it. What they will do is
- 55:54Speaker 3: he will just become as he becomes more grown up
- 55:56Speaker 3: and mature and experience in the World Championship, the gap
- 55:59Speaker 3: between his best and his worst days becomes much thinner.
- 56:03Speaker 3: And they're the guys that end up succeeding the guys
- 56:05Speaker 3: who were just there all the time. And so I
- 56:07Speaker 3: mentioned someone like Bastiarditi before on his day and AA
- 56:10Speaker 3: Bastianini has made everyone in Motor GP look absolutely silly.
- 56:13Speaker 3: Multiple times. We saw it when he was at Grassini.
- 56:15Speaker 3: We saw it was when he was with the Factory
- 56:17Speaker 3: du Catti team. He's the epitome of the guy who's
- 56:20Speaker 3: got the high highs and the low lows because he
- 56:22Speaker 3: will go six Grand Prix and you won't notice he's there,
- 56:24Speaker 3: and then he'll be on the podium and you know,
- 56:26Speaker 3: when you're twenty night whatever he is years old, you're
- 56:29Speaker 3: not changing in a Bastidi when you're twenty year old
- 56:32Speaker 3: setter ag years Yeah, that can be developed like BASTIARDEDI
- 56:36Speaker 3: is who he is. I'm not just picking on him.
- 56:37Speaker 3: He's just an example of a rider, right, but someone
- 56:40Speaker 3: like AGAs these teams will look at the high points
- 56:42Speaker 3: and go, yeah, this guy's pretty damn good. The fact
- 56:44Speaker 3: that he takes a whole bunch of other boxes is helpful,
- 56:46Speaker 3: but it's not going to be what gets him in there.
- 56:48Speaker 3: I will be pretty surprised if we don't see him
- 56:51Speaker 3: on a motor GP bike in the next two years
- 56:53Speaker 3: and hopefully in the next one.
- 56:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, that's what we're hoping for, right. We
- 56:57Speaker 2: want more Aussies up and coming. We want to have
- 57:00Speaker 2: an array of OSSI's representing us on the world stage.
- 57:04Speaker 2: Speaking of the world stage, just to touch briefly on it,
- 57:07Speaker 2: because this is as chaotic as catalogia. This episode Jack Miller,
- 57:13Speaker 2: Jack Miller is going to be doing Suzuka eight Hour
- 57:15Speaker 2: once again. It was also noted that Joan Zako was
- 57:18Speaker 2: which maybe depending on how the injuries go with his
- 57:22Speaker 2: knee on that, but I thought that was quite interesting,
- 57:25Speaker 2: the fact that it was announced that Jack's going to
- 57:27Speaker 2: do suzukah eight hour for Yamaha, but then we're also
- 57:30Speaker 2: hearing the rumors that he's being let go from Yamaha
- 57:33Speaker 2: at the same time. Maybe it's like a parting gift
- 57:36Speaker 2: of thank you so much for your help, please come
- 57:38Speaker 2: and do this for us again.
- 57:40Speaker 3: I also think as one of those ones that when
- 57:42Speaker 3: the phone rigs and Yamaha asks you to do the
- 57:44Speaker 3: eight hours, is kind of one answer, isn't he don't
- 57:46Speaker 3: say no? Yeah, I think you just say sure, I'll
- 57:48Speaker 3: do that, and look if it's one of those things
- 57:50Speaker 3: that I mean.
- 57:51Speaker 4: He'll go.
- 57:52Speaker 3: There as a very very strong chance of winning at
- 57:53Speaker 3: the Cape second last year. Obviously pretty good feather in
- 57:56Speaker 3: your cap if you win the Suzuka eight hours for
- 57:59Speaker 3: a Japanese Bannu factor that gets you a whole bunch
- 58:01Speaker 3: of cutos in a market, as we know, is crazy
- 58:04Speaker 3: for it. So yeah, I mean there's one of those.
- 58:06Speaker 3: There's absolutely nothing to lose for Jack for doing it,
- 58:08Speaker 3: so what.
- 58:08Speaker 2: Not exactly Now, we kind of briefly touched on Center.
- 58:13Speaker 2: I mentioned his results there Moto GP. I feel like
- 58:16Speaker 2: we've kind of gone through a lot of the major
- 58:18Speaker 2: talking places. Let's just quickly touch on Joel because those
- 58:23Speaker 2: who have hung with us, thank you. This has been
- 58:25Speaker 2: a long one Jolie, tricky weekend for him. P eighteen.
- 58:31Speaker 2: When I last spoke to him in Lemon, it was,
- 58:35Speaker 2: you know, I'm feeling really good. I'm feeling really comfortable.
- 58:38Speaker 2: I'm starting to get the bike and understanding the Honda,
- 58:40Speaker 2: and now that we're back at the euro tracks, this
- 58:42Speaker 2: is where I'm going to be strong and succeed. But
- 58:46Speaker 2: it's tricky for him at the moment, tricky for him
- 58:49Speaker 2: on that m lav machine.
- 58:52Speaker 3: Well, and I think the thing with Moto three this
- 58:54Speaker 3: year is that you only have to be a little
- 58:56Speaker 3: bit off and not even a lot, and you go
- 58:59Speaker 3: from being second road to outside of the points like
- 59:02Speaker 3: it's super competitive, Like Killez is just absolutely destroying everybody
- 59:06Speaker 3: he would win the championship. You could throw a blanket
- 59:08Speaker 3: over whoever the next twelve best riders are. And so
- 59:12Speaker 3: you only have to be a little bit off in
- 59:13Speaker 3: Motor three right now, and you go from fighting for
- 59:16Speaker 3: decent points to fighting like hell to get one point.
- 59:19Speaker 3: There's not much between probably eighty percent of the grid
- 59:22Speaker 3: right now. There's a clear stand there like Killez is.
- 59:24Speaker 3: The next guy's pretty clear at this point the way
- 59:27Speaker 3: he's been.
- 59:27Speaker 4: Racing this year.
- 59:28Speaker 3: But it's so tight in that next lot that Joel's
- 59:31Speaker 3: just in that group that it's a big group that
- 59:33Speaker 3: you can either be in the frontal or very easily
- 59:36Speaker 3: at the back of. And we saw that in Catalunya,
- 59:38Speaker 3: where it looked promising for a bit and then he
- 59:41Speaker 3: just started sliding down the timing tower and it was
- 59:43Speaker 3: just one of those ones where if you hear him,
- 59:45Speaker 3: you just you're thankful of the week off. You go
- 59:47Speaker 3: to Magelly, you've reset, not a great one, but also
- 59:50Speaker 3: not some sort of sign of anything super alarming either.
- 59:53Speaker 4: I don't think.
- 59:55Speaker 2: No, it's just annoying that there's no more points in
- 59:57Speaker 2: the bag, you know, like you see saying consistency is
- 59:59Speaker 2: key and sometime even if you are just scoring, you're
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: in like fourteenth fifteenth position, was pouring those last few points,
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: you're still banking that for the championship, right, So it's
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: frustrating there. But I mean, he every time we've spoken
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: to him, he's really excited for the challenge. He's looking
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: at everything with the glass half full mentality, as you
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: should be doing in that situation. So with that being said,
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: like you've mentioned before, we get a weekend off yay,
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: and then Modoo heads to Magello. Now Mark Mark Heads
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: is meant to be returning from Magello. From what I'm hearing,
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: have you heard any little more updates on the Mark.
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: Situation, It sounds like he's going to be there and
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: Mark being Mark, because Mark never does anything without a purpose.
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: It's all very very calculated. Few little social media videos
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: of him doing a few exercises with that right arm
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: looking like, oh yeah, I'm good to go. Now, whether
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: he's or not, who knows, But he does like using
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: you social media to stir up a bit of a horde.
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: It's nest And when I saw that stuff coming out,
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: I'm thinking, yeah, he's feeling pretty punchy. I think ye'll
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: want to get straight back into it. The thing with
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: it like for him the championship. I know he's a
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: million miles off the championship lead. It's so chaotic right
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: now in the championship. Think how just ordinary Aprillia was
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: in that cattalo in your weekend. There's still sixteen rounds
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: to go, and so there's a lot of points still available,
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: and right now it's like, does anyone actually want to
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: win the World Championship right now? That's kind of what
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: it feels like. So Mark will be pretty keen to
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: get back. And the curious thing for me is he
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: might be back, but how much what percentage of Mark
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: will he be? Will he be eighty percent? Mark, will
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: he be seventy five percent? I don't know how soon
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: he can get back up to speak, because we've got
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: another double header, of course, because we go Migello and
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: then Hungary directly after that. So you want to get
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: back and start scoring some decent points because the first
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: six races have been pretty forgettable for him, and of
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: course one in Valentino's backyard last year, didn't he.
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: That was something I'll never forget of seeing Dave data
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: dotsy on the grid where everybody was booing Mark and
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: you could hear it echoing through the Toskin Hills, and
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: he's pointing to the shirt, going he's one of us.
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: He's wearing the red. He's the same as us. Man
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: will they will never live down Valentino Rossie, Mark Mankers
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: the clash.
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: It will never happen. I think it's going to take
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: more than Davidaeta telling the fairs to behave themselves, to
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: a forgive and forget.
- 1:02:30Speaker 4: I don't think that's happening.
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: No, I don't think it's happening either. But like we said,
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: we've got one weekend off and then we're going to
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: be back for Moto GP at Migello, the place where
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: the bikes hit the top speed. The sound is incredible,
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: the fends are even more insane, and it's one of
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: the highlights of the year. So joy your weekend off.
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: We know Formula one is back this weekend, but it's
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: a Monday morning race, so you guys get a little
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: bit of sleep and then we can prepare for Moto
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: GP in Magello. But I think that pretty much wraps
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: up at Barcelona. Catalan grom Prix review from the Chaotic
