Latest / The Slippery Slope / 5 Signs We’re in a Global Depression

- 0:10OK, my name is Jay Fallon, obviously, and this is the
- 0:13slippery slope. So I just want to talk about the
- 0:17current financial situation, global financial situation.
- 0:21Obviously we've had all the issues with, well, the the
- 0:25latest, the latest thing is what Trump's doing.
- 0:29However, the globe has been in a dire financial situation for a
- 0:34long time. I don't think, I don't think for
- 0:37a second, I don't believe that the current crisis that we're
- 0:42facing really has anything to do with Trump or he's done
- 0:47something which might be the just brought it all to a head in
- 0:53a way. However, we've something has to
- 0:56change. Something had to be brought up.
- 1:00Some changes needed to be made in order to fix the dire
- 1:05financial catastrophe that was coming anyway.
- 1:10So we really have no choice. Someone was going to bring the
- 1:15pain one day and it happens to be Trump and Trump and this and
- 1:22his government at the moment. But I want to go through what's
- 1:25Britt, Britt Gillette. Britt Gillette, he I think is
- 1:31probably one of the one of the best people when it comes to
- 1:39explaining financial, the current financial situation.
- 1:44Let's let's check it out. So this is his, his sub stack.
- 1:49I'm not going to read the whole lot.
- 1:50It's very, very long. Anyway, it says 5 signs we are
- 1:54in a global depression. I would I would encourage you to
- 1:59check out Britt Gillette. Britt Gillette OK, so the
- 2:04world's now facing the worst economic environment since the
- 2:07Great Depression and before the dust settles, the world will
- 2:10also witness the greatest financial crisis in human
- 2:14history. A debt based monetary system
- 2:18such as the one the world runs on today is much like a Ponzi
- 2:23scheme. It requires ever increasing
- 2:27amounts of debt to avoid implosion, just as a Ponzi
- 2:32scheme implodes once it runs out of new investor cash.
- 2:38It's funny, you know Ponzi schemes.
- 2:40Obviously they're very bad. Highly illegal however, and
- 2:45offset this for a long time. About the Australian housing
- 2:47market. The Australian housing market is
- 2:49just a Ponzi scheme that the government is running.
- 2:53It's fun for them to do it, but hey, you and I don't you get on
- 2:57it. In a system such as ours, once
- 2:59debt reaches its pinnacle, the system starts to collapse.
- 3:05It's all built on debt, this one that we have, this monetary
- 3:08system. This is because bankruptcies and
- 3:10defaults result in a shrinking currency supply, and that
- 3:15shrinking currency supply makes it more difficult for other
- 3:18borrowers to meet their debt obligations.
- 3:21This in turn leads to more default slash bankruptcies and
- 3:26further shrinking of the currency supply.
- 3:29This vicious cycle continues until it reaches a free mark
- 3:34with market equilibrium and then growth can begin anew.
- 3:39This process is known as a deflationary spiral.
- 3:45So the the Great Depression was a deflationary spiral spurred on
- 3:49by massive central bank credit creation.
- 3:52And we've seen many of the same policy mistakes that led to the
- 3:56Great Depression repeated our day and time, most notably
- 4:00massive central bank credit creation in the aftermath of
- 4:03both the Great Financial Crisis and the Covad pandemic.
- 4:08Now the consequences of those poor policy decisions threaten
- 4:12to plunge the world into a new economic depression.
- 4:16So below. So we're going to read the five
- 4:18signs we're already in a global depression and one set to get
- 4:22much worse before it gets better.
- 4:25I just before we go on and I'll read all these these 5 signs.
- 4:29You remember what happened. He, he's saying the consequences
- 4:32of poor policy decisions. So we had the, the massive
- 4:37central bank credit creation in the aftermath of both the great
- 4:40financial crisis and the COVID pandemic.
- 4:44So here in Australia, obviously we were just printing cash.
- 4:47We're doing massive handouts. I think which one was it there
- 4:50where Kevin Rudd was in charge, the financial crisis, the GFC in
- 4:552008. So, you know, they decide, hey,
- 4:59we're just going to give out money to everyone so that
- 5:04they'll go out and buy TV's and keep the economy, keep the
- 5:08economy going. And at the time I'm sitting
- 5:12there, we were in a quite, quite a good way financially.
- 5:17Australia was, I think off the top of my head, I'm going to say
- 5:20something like 30 billion in the black.
- 5:23We were. So we were, we were quite going
- 5:25quite well and we had that money, in my opinion, I believe
- 5:29it was and you know, I'll stand corrected, but I believe it was
- 5:33because we come out of the Howard, Howard Costello era of,
- 5:39of government and they put us on a good, a good footing
- 5:43financially. Australia.
- 5:45Now I don't think everything they did was great.
- 5:47I think they sold off assets and they did things I think we would
- 5:50have been better off not doing. However, we weren't a trillion
- 5:54dollars in debt like at the moment.
- 5:56So that's what they've done. You have the GFC old K Rod.
- 6:02K Rod 7 says, hey, let's just go and give money away, which
- 6:06didn't seem to make sense, which at the time you'd think, well,
- 6:09why don't we go and spend the money on doing works around the
- 6:12country that would, you know, like, for instance, you could
- 6:15have built a massive double lane highway from Brisbane to Cairns,
- 6:20you know, spent the billions of dollars doing that up.
- 6:23You would have kept people working and we would have got
- 6:26something out of it. But instead these nafties say,
- 6:29oh, no, let's just give the money away to all the, all the
- 6:32people in the, you know, the lower echelon of society and all
- 6:36the school go out and buy TV's. And then obviously the other one
- 6:40is we had the COVID and governments decided, hey, let's
- 6:43just go and let's just go and support everyone.
- 6:45We're going to lock them all down, keep everyone locked down.
- 6:48But don't worry, we'll give you heaps of extra money so you can
- 6:51go because we're not going to lock down bottle shops.
- 6:55We're not going to lock down bottle shops and and sex shops,
- 6:59but we'll lock down churches and other shops.
- 7:02But we won't lock down bottle shops and sex shops.
- 7:06So and we'll give you extra money.
- 7:10Go figure. Anyway, so that's what they did.
- 7:12So that would basically just printing money.
- 7:14So this is what part of what they're talking about anyway.
- 7:16So first on a global trade war. Following the Trump
- 7:19administration's tariff announcements on April 2nd, the
- 7:23world is now engaged in a trade war.
- 7:25In addition, the deflationary problems, it's already dealing
- 7:29with war. So President Trump on the
- 7:35Wednesday unveiled expansive new tariffs in a major escalation of
- 7:39his trade war, referring to the historic move as a declaration
- 7:43of economic independence using national emergency powers, Trump
- 7:48announced 10% tariffs on all imports into the United States
- 7:52and the even higher tariffs on goods from other sixty countries
- 7:55or trading blocks that have a high trade deficit with the US.
- 7:59That includes China and the the European Union, which will be
- 8:04levied new duties of 34% and 20%, respectively.
- 8:10So in response, China's finance ministry said it will impose a
- 8:1334% tariff on all goods imported from the US starting on April
- 8:1710. Now, things have changed with
- 8:18this slightly, but I'll get into that afterwards.
- 8:21So I'm not going to read all of these articles, all these points
- 8:24all the way through because they're very, very long.
- 8:27So I'll go down to the second sign is there.
- 8:30He says a broken U.S. economy. So goes on to say the Federal
- 8:34Reserve Bank of Atlanta now expects first quarter GB GDP to
- 8:41be -2.8%. Wow.
- 8:46Got a graph if you're watching some video where it's just gone
- 8:49straight down. This is despite American working
- 8:51Americans working more than ever.
- 8:53The number of Americans holding more than one job hit an all
- 8:56time high in February of 8.86 million people, which is 5.4% of
- 9:02total employment, the highest share in 16 years.
- 9:05Meanwhile, the number of Americans holding a primary full
- 9:08time as well as a secondary part time job increase for by 395,000
- 9:14in February to a record 5.37 million people, which is 3.3% of
- 9:19total employment, the highest proportion since 1999.
- 9:23What's going on? Plummeting consumer sentiment,
- 9:27inflation concerns, tariffs and increasing likelihood of
- 9:31recession. Market volatility, political
- 9:34uncertainty. Faced with a cloudy future and
- 9:37rising costs, Americans are working more and harder.
- 9:43OK, so that was the first one. So you got the the American
- 9:46economy starting to tank, Obviously the Third Point, keep
- 9:51scrolling down here. The the second largest economy
- 9:57trapped in deflation. So as the world's number 2
- 10:01economy, this is China. China is already trapped in a
- 10:05deflationary spiral. I spoke about China's economic
- 10:09woes, I think probably a couple of years ago, two years ago now.
- 10:13How obviously you saw the the collapse of its real estate.
- 10:18What's a massive company that was just losing 10s of billions
- 10:23of dollars and you could see the writing on the wall years ago.
- 10:26And but yet in classic China, China ways, you know, they don't
- 10:32come clean with anything. They don't turn around and give
- 10:34give everyone a heads up and say, hey, there's a bit of
- 10:36trouble brewing here. No, no, that's right.
- 10:40They they like everyone to think or everyone to be scared and
- 10:43everyone to just think. I know China has got all under
- 10:45control, but they are in big they are experiencing major
- 10:50problems. So it's trapped in a
- 10:52deflationary spiral having lost over 18 trillion.
- 10:55I said trillion with a T That's T for T18 trillion in its
- 11:01property sector alone since 2021, according to Barclays.
- 11:06And as of yet, we see no indication the situation will
- 11:09change any time soon. As reported, when Xi Jinping
- 11:15became president in 2013, there was watch widespread optimism
- 11:20across China. At that time, many Chinese
- 11:22economists held a linear viewpoint, believing that the
- 11:26country's development would progress continuously.
- 11:29However, today China finds itself trapped in a deflationary
- 11:33cycle. It was Evergreen, sorry, that
- 11:35was that company. Evergreen has collapsed.
- 11:38Deflation occurs when weak demand leads to falling prices
- 11:42for goods and services, especially industrial products.
- 11:46Food staples are typically less affected.
- 11:48This price decline results in consumers and businesses
- 11:51refraining from purchases, as they expect even low prices in
- 11:55the future, which can trigger drops in wages and set the stage
- 11:59for a recession. China has been experiencing
- 12:02continuous deflation, with prices falling for six
- 12:06consecutive quarters. 6 Traditionally, Beijing has
- 12:13responded to deflation with aggressive monetary easing and
- 12:18fiscal stimulus. However, since the COVID-19
- 12:22plan, the the government has taken a more cautious approach
- 12:26to prevent a rise in debt. So if you, if you know anything
- 12:31about China, they have got Yeah. So the housing market has just
- 12:34collapsed. It says here China needs more
- 12:38significant stimulus to crush deflation fears economists.
- 12:41But I don't think there's anything they can really do.
- 12:43Restaurant, Chinese restaurants race to the bottom in deflation
- 12:48hits economy. So anyway, so that was the the
- 12:52third one #4 German deindustrialization.
- 12:59So if you don't know German, Germany is the third largest
- 13:03economy. It used to be America, then
- 13:05Japan. Anyway, so you know, Japan lost
- 13:08the plot ages ago and we'll get on to that.
- 13:11But #4 the 4th sign as the world's third largest economy,
- 13:15Germany is undergoing a period of deindustrialization following
- 13:19the launch of the Russia Ukraine war.
- 13:22German, simply German, simply Germany simply hasn't had the
- 13:27access to cheap, reliable energy it had before the war broke out.
- 13:32And why is that you might ask? Well, combined with a series of
- 13:35green policy initiatives, you know, when the government makes
- 13:39decisions that you know are going to go wry and just this is
- 13:44exactly what they've done. Reliable energy so it had hasn't
- 13:49had the access. German simply hasn't had the
- 13:52access to cheap reliable energy it had before the war broke out.
- 13:55Combined with a series of green policy initiatives that have
- 13:59shut down German coal and nuclear power plants, many
- 14:03German companies face the choice of bankruptcy or relocating
- 14:08their operations abroad. In February 2025, industrial
- 14:12production declined 1.3% month over month and 4% year over
- 14:18year. Is it any wonder economists are
- 14:20slashing the growth forecasts? Absolutely ridiculous.
- 14:25So the German government on Wednesday slashes gross domestic
- 14:28product forecast to just .30 point 3% growth in 2025.
- 14:34The diagnosis is serious. Robert Hapcock.
- 14:38Sorry, havoc, economy and climate minister.
- 14:42That's the problem there. Mixing climate minister and
- 14:46economy said during a press conference, according to a CNBC
- 14:51translation. He noted that while there are
- 14:53some positive developments, such as rising demand for credit,
- 14:57Germany is stuck in stagnation anyway.
- 15:01So obviously the car industry is like some of these headlines.
- 15:04Volkswagen looks to restructure across passenger car group
- 15:08components and commercial vehicle divisions.
- 15:11Germany in crisis. Intel and Volkswagen Mull a
- 15:15multi billion dollar withdrawal from the country.
- 15:20Another nail and coffin. Germany's current St faces up to
- 15:23Trump's tariffs. So these are all the things that
- 15:25are going on at the moment over there.
- 15:28And then the 5th, the 5th sign Japan locked in the currency
- 15:35crisis. Japan is in, they are in major,
- 15:39major troubles, major troubles. And it's very important because
- 15:42it's really just telegraphing where where we're all heading.
- 15:46So as bad as things are in the United States, China and
- 15:49Germany, they're even worse than the world's fourth largest
- 15:51economy. Japan in May 20.
- 15:55Well, he says in his May of 2024 article, this is Brit Gillette's
- 15:59Article 6 potential triggers for the next global financial
- 16:03crisis. He listed the second trigger as
- 16:06a Japanese currency crisis. So it goes on.
- 16:11Meanwhile, the 4th largest, the world's fourth largest economy
- 16:14is on the verge of a major currency crisis.
- 16:17The Japanese yen currently sits at the slowest level relative to
- 16:21the US dollar since 1990. To prevent the situation from
- 16:26getting worse will likely require the Bank of Japan to
- 16:30raise interest rates or the US Federal Reserve to lower
- 16:34interest rates. Given the recent persistence of
- 16:37inflation, it's unlikely we'll see the US lower rates in the
- 16:41short term absent a major financial crisis.
- 16:44This means the Bank of Japan may be forced to raise rates and
- 16:47take other measures to defend its currency.
- 16:51But this will cause a number of problems.
- 16:52First, the Japanese currency is in recession, so raising the
- 16:56rates, raising rates will only make the problem worse.
- 17:00Second, Japanese government debt stands at over 260% of GDP,
- 17:08260%. Believe it or not, that's twice
- 17:13as bad as the United States. Wow.
- 17:17Raising rates means more interest on the national debt,
- 17:20potentially sparking a debt spiral that could destroy the
- 17:24country. Furthermore, if the Bank of
- 17:26Japan starts hiking rates, this could cause a reversal of the
- 17:30yen carry trade. Succinctly explained that, which
- 17:35could quickly lead to a disorderly unravelling of
- 17:37financial positions all over the world.
- 17:40Along the way, we could see margin calls and exploding
- 17:45derivatives positions that crash global financial markets.
- 17:51OK. But like I said, a few things or
- 17:53something has changed. So Trump has just made another
- 17:56announcement about tariffs, and this is regarding China.
- 17:59So let's go and watch this video.
- 18:02So he's raised the tariffs, I believe with China again raised
- 18:06them and he's put a pause on tariffs with other countries
- 18:10that haven't been reciprocating tariffs against the UF US, I
- 18:14believe that's the way it goes. So let's just check out what
- 18:16exactly what he's done here. Now, we are just going to
- 18:21briefly return to our main story here tonight, tariffs and the
- 18:24global turmoil that we've been telling you about.
- 18:26Because just literally in the last couple of minutes, we're
- 18:29hearing that President Trump has announced that there will be a
- 18:3290 day pause on reciprocal tariffs for all countries except
- 18:38China. He's saying let's find out more
- 18:39from Simon Jack. What do we know, Simon?
- 18:41It looks like the US has blinked because in the last few minutes,
- 18:44I'm just looking at the markets now, they've rocketed up this,
- 18:47the US stock market up 6% on that news that they will pause
- 18:51for 90 days or for countries that have not retaliated.
- 18:54He is putting the tariffs up on China.
- 18:57But for countries like the UK, which have not retaliated, there
- 19:00will be a 90 day pause. And as I say, the markets are
- 19:03taking a huge sigh of relief from that.
- 19:05They think there's time in that time to do some deals.
- 19:08So it won't be so punitive. But just a real example of just
- 19:12how turbulent this is that it literally since we've been on
- 19:15air, a massive U turn from the government, from the US
- 19:18government. But as I say, only on those
- 19:19countries haven't retaliated. That, by the way, includes the
- 19:22UK. And now as I said there too, and
- 19:24I've seen it on the stock market, see here in Australia,
- 19:26there's been a massive change. Everything's bounced back up the
- 19:31the share market. However, as Britt Gillette was
- 19:33saying, this is what you're going to see.
- 19:35He believes and I do agree that we are, we're in a global
- 19:41depression. We're in this some maybe every
- 19:45country isn't in a glow, isn't in a deflationary spiral, but I
- 19:49believe we're heading into a global depression.
- 19:53And as was what happened in the Great Depression in was in 1929,
- 20:01things don't just happen within a day or two.
- 20:04Things take it. It reaches, it might start on
- 20:06this day, but it reaches the the pinnacle reaches the the actual
- 20:10depths. Of the depression, I think, you
- 20:13know, two or three years later, it doesn't just happen.
- 20:16So we're going to see spikes like we what we are today.
- 20:20But my opinion concurring with what Britt Gillette saying is
- 20:26that we're going to see this debt crisis and this financial
- 20:32crisis continue to spiral down. Now I think this because the
- 20:38Bible describes the, the financial situation in the
- 20:42world, it's going to be in a dire A dire state and we're
- 20:49going to see a financial collapse.
- 20:52So this is what the Bible's described.
- 20:54And I think this is where we're headed, which is, you know, it's
- 20:58not good news if you're a investor, But at the end of the
- 21:01day, we are going to end up in a with a some kind of one world
- 21:06currency, one world government, This one will government taking
- 21:10control of the economic system. And I think we're going to end
- 21:13up with the one will government taking control of the economic
- 21:16system because we're going to see a major, major financial
- 21:20crisis play out. And this could very well be the
- 21:26start of it. Very well.
- 21:28You know, this is all my opinion.
- 21:30I would encourage you go and check out Britt Gillette on
- 21:33Substack and YouTube. He's got some really good
- 21:36things. He's been talking about this
- 21:37stuff coming for a couple of years.
- 21:38So so shouldn't be any surprise if you've been watching him.
- 21:42Hey, this is all my opinion. My name is Jay Fallon.
- 21:46Thank you for listening to The Slippery Slope.
- 21:48Please like and share and check out my music if you can.
- 21:52Jay Fallon. I'm Jay Fallon.
- 21:54Thanks for listening to The Slippery.
