- 0:53SPEAKER_01: Tonight we react to week five, roll out the new rankings, and preview a huge week six across District 2.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: Thanks to the listeners.

- 1:08SPEAKER_01: We are on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, and anywhere that you can find your podcasts.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: I'll start with some introductions for our new listeners.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: Lakeland Grad over here, former wide receiver, semi-pro player, and coach for the old Scranton Eagles, some other semi-pro teams, coached at Lackawanna College, and now currently at Abinton Heights.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: My partner in crime, defensive back, Valley View Grad, an NEPA Sports Hall of Famer, head football coach at Honesdale, George Hoannetz, former players, now both coaches, but on the same side of the microphone.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: Coach Hoannetz, how are you doing this week?
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: And maybe the better question is how are you doing right now with a must-win Boston Red Sox game versus the Yankees going on while we're recording?
- 1:49SPEAKER_02: I need some uh comments put in there to keep me updated with the score here.
- 1:52SPEAKER_02: So uh it's all good.
- 1:54SPEAKER_02: You know, it's it's a nice mix now.
- 1:55SPEAKER_02: You get the blend of playoff baseball and high school and college and NFL football.
- 2:00SPEAKER_02: So uh, and we talked about this last week, man.
- 2:03SPEAKER_02: This season it goes so fast, doesn't it, coach?
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, we're already through week five, uh, week six coming up, and uh, you know, we're starting to, again, we're starting to see the the cream rising to the top, I think, with uh a lot of the teams, and it's a it's an interesting uh show with a lot of the different divisions and kind of what's going on in the LFC and the uh Wyoming Valley Conference.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: Certainly a lot going on.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: You know, I'm glad that you mentioned keep us updated in the comments.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: Coach Juan said, I got my Phillies news today.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: We tied the series at one, so that's good.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: Yankees, uh I see Dave in the chat listening for the Yankees.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: But as Coach Juana said, you know, not only give us comments on the Yankees Phillies if you like tonight, but please be part of the show, be interactive.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: We love the interaction from our listeners.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: There's what makes this show go.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: You know, you're like our third co-host there in the chat, and it is a great time of the year.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: High school, college, pro football, all picking up, and we are at that halfway point, and there's a lot of, even though it's going fast, Coach, there's a lot of football yet to cover this season.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: But before we keep rolling, a quick shout out to our partners, Kleinbauer Mechanical.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: Their boiler promotion, Coach Juanitz, was originally set to end today, but Jordan and his team are extending it exclusively for sportswire listeners through Saturday, and they're adding another$500 off.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: This is impressive.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: So if you've been thinking about replacing your boiler, sportswire listeners can now get$1,000 off from Kleinbauer Mechanical plus up to$1,500 in qualifying UGI rebates.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: That's up to$2,500 in savings.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: Just contact Kleinbauer Mechanical by Saturday.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: Make sure you tell them Sportswire sent you.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: Call$70-357-7226 for the details and schedule that estimate.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: Big thanks to Jordan and the entire Kleinbauer Mechanical team for supporting what we're building here at Sportswire.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: If you didn't get that information live when you play it back, the phone number's there.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: Please contact Kleinbauer Mechanical.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: What a great deal they're giving.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: That was a great deal.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: Coach from a great deal to a great player, right?
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: Our Impact Player of the Week.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: Again, Sportswire is covering sports throughout the region, all different sports.
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: They have their player of the week with reaches everywhere.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: Our focus is always on District 2 here for our show.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: And our impact impact player of the week, powered by Seraphim Sports Training, is none other than Western Wayne's David Vivada, hauled in five big catches for 97 yards.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: I coach, I would have probably got him a bubble screen or something in the end there to get him to 100 because he was cooking two touchdowns, including a 32-yard Hail Mary touchdown reception right before the half.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: That is clutch.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: And a little later on, coach, he's going to be visiting your Honesdale team this Friday.
- 4:55SPEAKER_01: So we'll get into the details of that as we go.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: We'll talk about our Impact Player of the Week versus Honesdale as part of our scouting preview.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: But congrats, David.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: Great job on being the impact player of the week.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: And with that, coach, I'm going to turn it over to you as we look ahead to week five.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: Another strong week for your Hornets.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: Beat Crestwood 36-7 to move to four and one, stay in the big school of top five.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: Walk us through last week's game.
- 5:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I just think uh, you know, Crestwood's dealing with some injuries, obviously, and uh uh I think playing a tough schedule.
- 5:27SPEAKER_02: You know, we keep talking about some of the teams that really have a tough go uh at the beginning of the year in their first five games, and Crestwood's had that.
- 5:34SPEAKER_02: They played some really tough competition, I think, the first five weeks, uh, well, four weeks, you know, going into last week.
- 5:40SPEAKER_02: But um, you know, our kids played well.
- 5:43SPEAKER_02: We jumped on them early, we got a uh fake to punt early that led to a score, and then they turn the ball over, we score again uh you know rather quickly.
- 5:51SPEAKER_02: So, you know, at this time of year, I've been saying the same thing to my coaches, my players, and all the coaches are probably saying the same thing.
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: If you can finish off drives with touchdowns, uh not turn the ball over, uh, and really no dumb mistakes with penalties and things like that.
- 6:06SPEAKER_02: I just think uh put you in really a driver's seat in high school football, and uh, we've been fortunate enough the last couple weeks to be able to do that and get on some teams early and uh kind of keep the ball rolling for us.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: Good points taken in there.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: You know, and I'm on the I'm I'm taking notes here too on the Abenton side.
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: You know, we've been protecting the ball, but that uh scoring in the red zone piece as we get down there is is where we gotta get over the hump.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: And you mentioned a lot of battle-tested teams, you mentioned tough schedules.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: I think as we get to the second half, now's when it's gotta play out, right?
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: Now now's where these battle-tested teams, maybe you hey the record isn't what they expected, whether it's Abington or Dell Valley.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: Hey, second half, you get that battle-tested schedule has got to come into effect and these teams gotta finish strong.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: Or on the flip side, teams that are rolling, getting momentum now, they need to keep that momentum rolling and not slow down because there's five big weeks coming up here.
- 6:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I just think when you see uh, you know, injuries obviously are playing a big role.
- 7:02SPEAKER_02: Like you think about the Berwick game last week.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: Cleaver didn't play.
- 7:05SPEAKER_02: I mean, he's their offense, right?
- 7:06SPEAKER_02: We talked about some of the things last week of kids played uh versus didn't play, kind of how the outcomes can change.
- 7:12SPEAKER_02: And it is, it's big in high school football.
- 7:14SPEAKER_02: It's injuries play a big role, and uh, you know, you're starting you're gonna start to see some of these teams that maybe had uh an easy beginning part to schedule.
- 7:22SPEAKER_02: Now they get into the you know the heart of their league schedule, which I think will be interesting to see who can uh get the job done on a Friday.
- 7:29SPEAKER_02: And uh, you know, we we've been talking about this each week.
- 7:32SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's it's a it's really a wide open race in the Lackawanna conference, the Bombing Valley Conference, and uh you're gonna really see that I think over the last five weeks of the season.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we are all juggling those injuries and health situations with it with our student athletes, and then again, how we finish is gonna be really important.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: So wishing everybody the best of health out there as your teams finish down this stretch.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: As we look back on week five, our still perfect teams are now five deep.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: We have North Pocono who shut out Abington Heights 21-0.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: Dallas rolled Wilkesbury 47-7, Dunmore beat Susquehanna 56-6.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: Lakeland handled Carbondale 40-6.
- 8:11SPEAKER_01: Go Chiefs and Riverside survived a scare at Old Forge 35-28.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: Five teams remain unbeaten, Coach.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: Anything stand out there or anything different as uh we look at these teams that still have this target on their back?
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: I don't think so.
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: I think, well, I think the Delaware Valley score was uh surprising to a lot of people just because of what the score was, and and uh, you know, obviously Won Paul Pack hadn't beaten them in whatever how many years it was.
- 8:35SPEAKER_02: I was reading five or six years or uh something like that.
- 8:38SPEAKER_02: So obviously that's a big game for them.
- 8:40SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, Wallon Paul Pack after we beat them week one, they've really run off uh you know four weeks of of win after win scoring a lot of points.
- 8:49SPEAKER_02: So um, you know, they're looking good.
- 8:51SPEAKER_02: I think they're gonna uh you know, the rest of their schedule will be a little bit tougher.
- 8:55SPEAKER_02: You'll really get a good look with uh, you know, they have Valley View, they have Prep, they have uh Abington.
- 9:00SPEAKER_02: So you got to look with that.
- 9:02SPEAKER_02: And I think all the other teams kind of held up.
- 9:04SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, Dunmore, Lakeland, uh, you know, I thought Prep, uh obviously, Wyoming area is playing a lot better now.
- 9:12SPEAKER_02: Uh, so we're starting to see some of those teams we thought were gonna be the real good ones.
- 9:16SPEAKER_02: They're like I said, they're gonna get into harder schedule and we'll get a little better look at what they're gonna be able to do moving forward.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: And of those five remaining teams, uh uh it's ironic we talked about last week the River Fut Riverside Old Forge when Riverside survives a scare 35 to 28, but we talked about that old-fashioned rivalry where you just never know.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: You know, Old Forge has struggled this year, but you play certain teams different.
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: So it sounds like that game materialized into what you talked about last week, Coach, is rival football became a close game.
- 9:45SPEAKER_02: And you know, we'll get that more and more now with uh that's what I said even last week, like Dallas seems to always kind of get a hiccup somewhere there because they're playing a lot of these teams that maybe uh you know are the rivalry games and things, but uh we'll see that a little more coming up, and and you know, like I said, I think it's other than uh, you know, I'm even I'm thinking about like the big schools, like North Pocono and Dallas are really, I think, set themselves apart.
- 10:08SPEAKER_02: Uh Prep probably in the small school, and then uh Dunmore is gonna have um, you know, Dunmore, I'm just saying Dunmore is like the one of the better teams in the small school.
- 10:17SPEAKER_02: They have Lakeland coming up, they have uh Riverside coming up, they have Holmesdale coming up so of you know, the harder their schedule be coming up, you'll get a good, a really, really, really good look at can they survive the each week uh runs uh where they play some of these teams back to back to back and uh can they hold up against all that each week?
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: We're gonna dig more into that schedule as soon as I have my challenge flag ready to coach right here in my pocket, ready to pull it out.
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: But, you know, just a few more games as we look back at and wrap up week five.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: You know, there's also statement wins by Prep and Valley View is expected.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: Prep 57-7 over West Granton.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: West Granton's going through a tough spell right now.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: Scranton's again continues to struggle.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: That young team.
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: They did put up 22 points, but gave up 56, so that's still a tough one there.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: Del Valle, we talked about the injuries, losing to Paw Pack.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: Paw pack's rolling, and then also around the district, Wyoming area beats Western Wayne 35-13, Pitston blasts Hazleton 46-7.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: Lake Lehman won over Hanover area 35-24.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: Mid Valley beats Lackawanna Trail 42-16.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: As I mentioned, my comments get down 21-0 at North Pocono.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: They now sit at 2-3.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: And you know, like yourself, Coach, we both got to see what North Pocono has.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: And they're just such a disciplined team.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: You know, they ran the ball so well.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: We had an opportunity at an interception uh that we just missed at the end of the half.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: Instead of going in 7-0 down, it became 14-0 as they capitalized.
- 11:44SPEAKER_01: And then we just grinded the rest of the half, but never really got that offense to finish drives.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: We end up losing 21-0.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: Any closing thoughts on week five, those games that I mentioned?
- 11:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I just think like I said, you against these really good teams, uh, you have to capitalize on mistakes and not make them because they're they're not gonna make a lot of mistakes.
- 12:00SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's just uh the better teams are gonna play almost mistake-free football.
- 12:05SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, I I said I'm gonna say the same thing again.
- 12:08SPEAKER_02: I said to my kids last week, like, if you can start a game and you're up, you know, 16-0 to start a game or 15 or 14, I just think it takes teams out of their offense a little bit, it makes them press a little more.
- 12:19SPEAKER_02: Um, and you're seeing some of the better teams able to do that.
- 12:22SPEAKER_02: And if you're in these close games where you're playing against an opponent that's undefeated and things like that, you have to be able to capitalize and you have to be able to take advantage, like I said, of any mistake they're gonna make or they turn into long games.
- 12:36SPEAKER_02: That seven points turns into 21 really quick, and now you're behind the eight-ball, and it's tough to dig out from that.
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: I agree.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: Dave Kurtzman says North Pocono, nobody's beaten them in this regular season.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: We'll see there.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: You know, I think there's, you know, with the right game plan, there was opportunities.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: We we I saw it this week in that Abington game, uh, but that but they are a tough out for sure.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: We'll see how the schedule plays out, and we're gonna get into North Pocono and these rankings right now.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: As always, we're gonna start with the big school top 10.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: I roll out the rankings, Coach Juanis defends them, challenge flag ready.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: North Pocono, 5-0 coach, they're first.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: Dallas also 5-0 second.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: I really wish those two teams played each other.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: It's a it's a shame they don't.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: I think North Pocono has a lot tougher schedule than uh Dallas the rest of the way.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: So to Dave's comment, I don't think it's gonna be that easy for North Pocono because they're gonna get everybody's best game.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: Valley View right behind at 3-2, playing better football now.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: Abington Heights 2-3.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: They've got an opportunity versus Prep this week.
- 13:39SPEAKER_01: Honesdale coaches uh Hornets rolling at 4-1.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: Pop Hex is losing to Honesdale, they've been rolling, they're 4-1 now.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: Wyoming Valley West hanging in there at 3-2, Berwick 2-3, trying to get get on track.
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: Del Val struggling at 1-4 in Pittston area two and three.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: Coach, how does that rankings?
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: What's your thoughts there?
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: What's right?
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: What doesn't add up?
- 14:01SPEAKER_01: I got a little bit of a challenge flag there, maybe, but let me know your thoughts.
- 14:06SPEAKER_02: I think when you get uh, first of all, I'm gonna work the bottom up.
- 14:08SPEAKER_02: I think when you get towards the bottom, you're getting a lot of teams now, the two and threes, the three-and-twos, the one and fours, and you've got to look at who they're playing.
- 14:15SPEAKER_02: Uh did they have guys injured like Delaware Valley this week, played well in Paul Pack, their tailback didn't play.
- 14:21SPEAKER_02: Uh so how much is that going to affect the game?
- 14:24SPEAKER_02: Probably a pretty good amount.
- 14:25SPEAKER_02: Uh Pittston's been up and down, given up a lot of points, but scoring a lot of points.
- 14:29SPEAKER_02: Again, quarterback was out the week before, they lose the game.
- 14:32SPEAKER_02: Uh Berwick, Cleaver's not playing.
- 14:34SPEAKER_02: If he comes back, that's a much different team than what uh you know what played last week.
- 14:39SPEAKER_02: Welling Valley West has been hot.
- 14:41SPEAKER_02: They've been scoring a lot of points.
- 14:42SPEAKER_02: I think they've turned the corner, so uh they sit at seven.
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: Uh Won Paul back at six, even with the win over Delaware Valley, um, I can't put them they can't be ahead of Homestead.
- 14:52SPEAKER_02: Homestead beat them the first week um quite handily.
- 14:56SPEAKER_02: And then uh Abington Valley View at 3-4, I just think you gotta look at the body of work, who they're playing.
- 15:02SPEAKER_02: Um, I I think either one of those teams, and maybe five and six would say they can move up to those spots, but I still think uh until some of these teams can beat uh the Valley Views and Abingtons, I think they stay at that 5'6 spot.
- 15:16SPEAKER_02: And then really North Pokono Dallas would be 1 and 1A, I think, uh, or 1A, 1B, however you want to look at it.
- 15:22SPEAKER_02: Both are undefeated.
- 15:24SPEAKER_02: Uh every coach that I've talked to uh says how good both teams are, and they they all have their opinion on who would win if they ran into each other.
- 15:32SPEAKER_02: But uh, like I said, I my big concern for all these teams is if something happens injury-wise and they lose some of these good players, uh, do they have backups that can step into those roles and and fill uh you know those big shoes that they'd have to fill?
- 15:48SPEAKER_02: And again, you're not gonna know that.
- 15:50SPEAKER_02: And I hope nobody gets hurt, but I'm just saying in the this long stretch of games when some of these teams play tough opponents, you get guys dinged up and you gotta be able to come back and uh see what you're able to do with the you know preventing the injury bug and uh how good are your backups in some of these spots?
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: There's good takes there, so I'm gonna hold the challenge flag as you defended that well, coach.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: I might throw a penalty flag and just ask you this question.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: And this is not me as the as the the an Abington assistant here, but I gotta speak on behalf of the listeners well.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: I know the potential of that that comet squad.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: There's a deep roster there and a lot of talent.
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: But Abington fourth with a two and three record, and Del Val ninth at one and four, are they fit fair rankings or is it a little bit based on reputation there?
- 16:32SPEAKER_02: Well, I think some of it is and some of it's not.
- 16:34SPEAKER_02: I just think uh, you know, like I said to you early in the year, I think when you lose to District 2 opponents, you get a little bit of a better look at kind of where you're at.
- 16:43SPEAKER_02: So uh even with Delaware Valley, like uh they only scored seven points against Prep.
- 16:48SPEAKER_02: And then I think to give up all those points against Wallon Paul Pack is a little bit of an eye-opener.
- 16:53SPEAKER_02: Uh and I coach Olsmer and I talked about this a little bit coming into the year.
- 16:57SPEAKER_02: He had a lot of graduation uh from last year, so he had a lot of uh kids that had to step in the roles that maybe they hadn't uh in the past.
- 17:05SPEAKER_02: So again, I think you kind of see that a little bit.
- 17:08SPEAKER_02: It's uh uh you got a little bit of the topsy turbiness that could take place when you gotta replace guys.
- 17:13SPEAKER_02: Like I said, you get an injury here and there with key players, and I just think they're at that point now where maybe they're uh, you know, it's gonna be a little difficult kind of season.
- 17:22SPEAKER_02: They're not their normal eight and two or seven and three.
- 17:25SPEAKER_02: They might be more of a five and five team.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think there are two ball clubs that, as we mentioned, if they could stay healthy or be healthy, we see how they finish and what they learned from those first five games of the season.
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: Both definitely battle-tested uh ball clubs.
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: Now we're gonna shift gears to the small school top ten.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: And this was I I always find I find the small school really interesting.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: And you know, it starts there at number one with Scranton Prep.
- 17:50SPEAKER_01: And similar to that conversation, say, hey, depending what coach you talk to, North Poco or Dallas is better.
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: I hear Scranton Prep in that same conversation, and then I've heard some different things.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: Scranton Prep Sports Wire has ranked here at number one at four and one.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: Dunmore, Lakeland, and Riverside, all five and oh, two, three, and four.
- 18:07SPEAKER_01: And that's where I'm gonna keep throwing that challenge flag and standing up for those undefeated teams uh until they get that respect paid on them there.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: And it's again a shame, you know these schools deserve the opportunity to play and see what they could do.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: Uh, but after that, you have Wyoming area at five, Lake Lehman at six at two and three, Mid Valley seven, Montrose eight, Western Wayne nine, and Old Forge at one and four.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: I might even throw another challenge flag out there with Lehman sitting in a sixth with a two and three record, and Old Forge holding on to 10th at 1-4.
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: Coach, defend those rankings against those undefeated teams and those schools that are hanging on with those struggling records.
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I just think if you look in uh if you look at the standings of the Lac Wanna Conference and the Wyoming Valley Conference, especially in the small schools, there's not a lot of teams with a great record.
- 18:56SPEAKER_02: I mean, when you get down to the uh six, seven, eight, nine, and ten area, there's there's a lot of teams that are one and four, uh-five, so it's hard.
- 19:06SPEAKER_02: You still you gotta have a ten, right?
- 19:08SPEAKER_02: So um the prep dunmore thing to me, you and I talked about this uh weeks ago.
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: I think Scranton Prep beats everyone on this list.
- 19:15SPEAKER_02: I just think they're battle-tested, uh, the history behind the school, what they're able to do, their athletes.
- 19:21SPEAKER_02: Uh, I just think they'd be a tough out for any of these teams.
- 19:24SPEAKER_02: Uh, and I think their schedule's been a lot better than uh, you know, the other undefeated.
- 19:29SPEAKER_02: So um, you know, Dunmore's been sitting number one for a while now, but I just think what prep did the uh West Scranton and what they've done to the other teams, even playing DV, uh, you know, uh winning a D V against the 5A school, none of these other teams are gonna play a 5A school, so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.
- 19:46SPEAKER_02: Dunmore uh and Lakeland and Riverside uh are all gonna play each other, so again, it's all gonna play out the 2-3-4 area there.
- 19:54SPEAKER_02: Um Wyoming area playing a lot better now since uh they had to make the quarterback change.
- 19:59SPEAKER_02: Lake Lehman uh beat Mid-Vally, so uh you can't beat Mid Valley ahead of Lake Lehman because Lake Lehman beat them.
- 20:06SPEAKER_02: Montrose playing well, but again, not great opponents.
- 20:10SPEAKER_02: Western Wayne's played tough opponents, I think, and hung in there for the most part, and then uh Old Forge, I think, with that close game against Riverside, uh, I think they're getting a little bit better each week.
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: Some of his younger players are playing a little bit better, and uh they round out that top ten.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: None of the listeners in the chat are you know pulling for those 5-0 teams.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: I don't see anyone uh backing me up here on the undefeated team.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: So, coach, you're gonna get the challenge flag there tonight.
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: That means I can't call another one.
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: But uh, you know, for the Dunmore, Lakeland, and Riverside community, I'm I'm I'm going to bat for you here.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: Keep on winning, keep this season interesting.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: Uh, definitely a very competitive small school top 10 that we have going on there.
- 20:49SPEAKER_02: And and Dan, remember what we said, I think at least the biggest thing for me with all these and in the big school, they all play each other for the most part, right?
- 20:56SPEAKER_02: So uh you're gonna really get these things shaken out in these last five weeks where you're seeing all these crossovers taking place, like I said, in the small school area and in the big school.
- 21:06SPEAKER_02: Like even we go to the big school, you have Valley View's gonna play Abington.
- 21:10SPEAKER_02: So you're gonna know on the field who the better team is, you know, and you're gonna see Wam Popak play a lot of those schools, and DV play a lot of those schools.
- 21:17SPEAKER_02: So uh, you know, and like I said, Prep's not gonna play any of these, which again is a tough thing.
- 21:22SPEAKER_02: They're gonna play all the teams in our big school list.
- 21:24SPEAKER_02: So it's a tough uh, you know, most of it's gonna play itself out, but uh, for a team like Prep that's playing up, I think you have to give them the benefit of the doubt.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: We'll give you a coach.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: We're gonna give you this one here.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: But hey, and that but that's why our listeners got to keep tuning in there, too.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: We'll be covering these all the way through the playoffs.
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: A lot of football to be played out.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: With that, we're gonna go to one of our favorite segments of the week here.
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: Uh, the the fit of the week, fueled by fit AF Nutrition.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: I love that uh Fit and their owner Jordan Glasgow works with Sportswire and comes up with this you know, just a great feature for the kids.
- 21:59SPEAKER_01: Our sports.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Team's watching every Friday night for the best game day fits.
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: This week's fit of the week goes to Tice Mason of the Dallas Mountaineers.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: Loving that.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: It's got like that North Carolina football look to it there with all blue there and he's rocking the gloves and the you know the wristbands just a little bit lower.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: So it's looking great there.
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: And I think I zoomed in on this picture earlier too.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: The cleats, there's a little bit of purple in there that matches his mouthpiece.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: So the sports wire is on the ball looking for those small details.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: So congrats, Tys Mason, on this week's Fit of the Week.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: And when it comes to your own fuel, check out Fit AF Nutrition meal prep and use code Mountaineers20 this week.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: Thanks to Tice to save 20% off your first order of seven meals or more.
- 22:45SPEAKER_01: Fit of the week fueled by Fit AF Nutrition.
- 22:49SPEAKER_02: Dan of the great thing, one of the great things about that uniform and that fit of the week, and I and always I've always been a firm believer in this.
- 22:56SPEAKER_02: The teams that have great tradition, which is like Dallas has great tradition, that uniform hasn't changed since the 90s.
- 23:04SPEAKER_02: It looks exactly the it's it's the same, you know, the same design on the jersey, same color scheme, same nothing's changed.
- 23:12SPEAKER_02: So there's a lot to be said for tradition.
- 23:15SPEAKER_02: Uh, and you know, not having to change every every year with all these funky things that everybody's doing.
- 23:21SPEAKER_02: Like I said, when we played them in the uh in the 90s at Valley View, they're the exact same uniform.
- 23:26SPEAKER_02: All right, so there's something to be said for that.
- 23:29SPEAKER_01: It's good timing for you to bring that up because at Abington Heights, when you walk into our field house, there's these mannequins, and I believe the old Boyle Realty uh supports and sponsors, and you'll see whatever uniforms we have if we get something new.
- 23:43SPEAKER_01: Well, we got brand new uniforms, coach.
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: They look no different than probably any other uniforms we've had.
- 23:49SPEAKER_01: You know, I mean they're nice, they're sharp, you know, they're professional, they're a little different fit, but traditional Abington.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: If you if you're a crowd, a fan in the stands, you'd you probably wouldn't know unless, you know, again, you're really zooming in there, like the Sportswire photography team there.
- 24:02SPEAKER_01: Uh so Sportswire, check out our new uniforms this week and you'll you'll see the tradition that Coach Juan is talks about that uh a lot of our teams carry in this region.
- 24:11SPEAKER_01: With that, speaking of tradition and and good games, we're we're gonna dive into our week six preview.
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: We're gonna start with our featured games.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: I have six of them here that I'm looking at.
- 24:22SPEAKER_01: Again, looking at a lot of these teams that are really rolling, and I'm gonna start with a spotlight game.
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: Lakeland 5-0 at Riverside 5-0, Friday night, 7 o'clock.
- 24:31SPEAKER_01: Coach, you you mentioned these clashes were about to happen.
- 24:34SPEAKER_01: These teams are gonna start playing each other.
- 24:36SPEAKER_01: Both teams undefeated.
- 24:38SPEAKER_01: Lakeland rides Jackson Potius, who does it all.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: Riverside answers with NBA, or NBA, NEPA's leading scorer, Braden Rose.
- 24:46SPEAKER_01: Riverside coming off a tough rivalry game versus Old Forge.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: Is that a concern going into Lakeland or is that just the nature of you know those rivals uh battling and out?
- 24:57SPEAKER_01: The Vikings battle tested or vulnerable?
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: What do you have here, Coach?
- 25:01SPEAKER_02: Well, I just think uh, you know, Lakeland's uh uh playing great football right now.
- 25:05SPEAKER_02: They have a lot of weapons offensively.
- 25:06SPEAKER_02: McFarland had two touchdowns rushing last week.
- 25:09SPEAKER_02: Potions had uh two touchdowns rushing, 155 yards, been running the ball well.
- 25:14SPEAKER_02: Um Riverside obviously in a tough game last week.
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: And I had some people from Old Forge tell me that uh Braden Rose got dinged up a little bit last week in the game.
- 25:23SPEAKER_02: So is that gonna carry over this week?
- 25:25SPEAKER_02: Is a big question.
- 25:26SPEAKER_02: Uh, and without him, I think they're uh you know they're obviously vulnerable when it comes to that's your biggest weapon.
- 25:32SPEAKER_02: He's a he's a huge playmaker for them.
- 25:34SPEAKER_02: He had two touchdowns, 129 yards last week, and Anstead had 137 or rushing touchdowns.
- 25:40SPEAKER_02: So they're they're moving the ball, both teams.
- 25:42SPEAKER_02: Uh I'm gonna give the edge to Lakeland just because I think athlete-wise, they're they're not really one-dimensional.
- 25:48SPEAKER_02: They have a lot of kids they can get the ball to, they can throw it, they can rush it.
- 25:52SPEAKER_02: Um, and I just think I don't know if Riverside's gonna be able to kind of keep up, and they have great athletes, believe me.
- 25:57SPEAKER_02: I'd love to have Brayden Rose, but uh I just think you know it's one of those deals where Lakeland has too much and and uh Riverside kind of relies on one person too much.
- 26:07SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna give the edge to uh Lakeland this game.
- 26:10SPEAKER_01: I'm with you there.
- 26:11SPEAKER_01: I think it's gonna be a convincing one for Lakeland.
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: I think Riverside's gonna, you know, play hard, play tough, you know, led by Braden Rose.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: Hopefully he's you know full go, so we get to see the best of these both teams.
- 26:22SPEAKER_01: But since week one, you know, Lakeland had a pivot at quarterback, and it didn't even take them a while to get started.
- 26:28SPEAKER_01: They they just continue that momentum, and I think they're gonna carry that into this weekend's game.
- 26:32SPEAKER_01: So look forward to that.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be a great one uh this week.
- 26:35SPEAKER_01: One of these undefeated is gonna get knocked off.
- 26:39SPEAKER_01: My Abenton Heights Comets, where I'm at, traveling, playing uh Scranton Prep, prep's the hottest small school in the district after a 57-7 route.
- 26:49SPEAKER_01: Abenton's trying to stay steady, you know, two and three season.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: They're trying to get back to 500 with Jaden Englin leading the way.
- 26:55SPEAKER_01: This is definitely a measuring stick game for the Comets.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: Coach, what do you like here?
- 26:59SPEAKER_02: Well, this is gonna be a tough game for Abington, obviously.
- 27:02SPEAKER_02: We've talked about prep how they're tough to defend.
- 27:04SPEAKER_02: Uh, a lot of good athletes.
- 27:05SPEAKER_02: So they have uh Jeffers, who's playing quarterback and moving around a little bit for them, a couple interceptions, touchdown, uh McPartland's all over the place, another two touchdowns, Noah Kriswick, two touchdowns, rushing.
- 27:17SPEAKER_02: So they got a lot of weapons, you know, uh, from playing Abington all through the years.
- 27:21SPEAKER_02: They they spread the ball around, uh, they'll go with the hot hand.
- 27:25SPEAKER_02: Uh, and defensively, they're usually tough.
- 27:27SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, Abington, obviously, I I told you this last week against North Pocono.
- 27:32SPEAKER_02: If you can get an offense going and score some points, I think uh any of these weeks, uh, and it's gotta be more than 7 or 14, you've got to be able to put up 21 or 28.
- 27:42SPEAKER_02: I think you're in every game uh in our you know in our area.
- 27:45SPEAKER_02: So Angland's done a great job for you guys.
- 27:47SPEAKER_02: Another hundred yards rushing last week, another touchdown.
- 27:51SPEAKER_02: So um, if you can control the ball, I think and get some points, I think uh the game will be close.
- 27:56SPEAKER_02: But uh again, we've talked about this.
- 27:58SPEAKER_02: Until you knock some of these teams off, uh I have to give them the benefit of the doubt.
- 28:01SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna go out Scranton Prepur.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: And as listeners know, uh, you know, coaching at Abington, I won't give a prediction.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: Coach Juanitz, you know, summarized that really well.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: I'll say just, you know, in that two and three record that Abinton has, they've done a lot of positives in a lot of these games.
- 28:17SPEAKER_01: Like there's a formula there where they could surprise anybody or get it rolling at any point.
- 28:23SPEAKER_01: Coach Repsus, Coach Justave trying to just figure out how to you know get the defense off the field a little bit, put up a few more points against North Pocon.
- 28:31SPEAKER_01: Abington had a good defensive game plan, you know, held them to 21, and it could have been different with a play here or there.
- 28:37SPEAKER_01: So this should amount to a really good game this week.
- 28:40SPEAKER_01: These two ball clubs always play each other tough.
- 28:43SPEAKER_01: Competitive rivalry game there as well.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: So we'll see how that shakes out Friday at 7.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: Now we shift Western Wayne at your Hornets, Coach.
- 28:51SPEAKER_01: Western Wayne 3-2, Honesdale 4-1.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: Your team uh you know features our impact player in this game, David Favada.
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: He's gonna try to keep that streak with Western Wayne going to Honesdale, where Gabe Duda and the 4-1 Hornets are rolling.
- 29:07SPEAKER_01: Coach, I believe you've even coached against Favada's Warriors last year, so I think you know the challenges ahead without making a prediction because you coach there.
- 29:15SPEAKER_01: Again, give the listeners just some insight of what they could expect this week.
- 29:18SPEAKER_02: You know, Western Wayne's a good football team.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: They played a good schedule uh early on.
- 29:22SPEAKER_02: A lot of the top teams uh they're very uh good at spreading the ball around.
- 29:27SPEAKER_02: They really don't have a true workhorse right now.
- 29:30SPEAKER_02: They have a whole bunch of different athletes, a good quarterback, uh, good receivers, some good running backs, and defensively they're uh you know, they're still kind of doing the same thing they've done for years, playing a uh, you know, 50 defense and coming downhill, and they tackle well and they cover well.
- 29:45SPEAKER_02: So uh, you know, it's a rivalry game for both teams.
- 29:48SPEAKER_02: Uh when you get up there with Wall and Paul Pack, Western Wayne, and Wayne Highlands, the three teams are kind of always going at each other.
- 29:54SPEAKER_02: So uh it's kind of like that old Forge Riverside game we talked about last week where you kind of throw everything out the window and both teams are gonna kind of go at each other.
- 30:02SPEAKER_02: So uh, you know, I expect it to be a tough game, hard fought game, and uh they're a good football team, well coached.
- 30:08SPEAKER_02: And uh, you know, I'm just hoping our kids, you know, can play the way they've been playing.
- 30:13SPEAKER_02: Gabe Dude has been doing a great job.
- 30:15SPEAKER_02: We've run the ball well, we've been trying to throw it a little more, and defensively we've done a nice job of holding teams down.
- 30:20SPEAKER_02: So uh I'm hoping on Friday we can kind of keep that going.
- 30:24SPEAKER_01: Good summary there.
- 30:25SPEAKER_01: And for the listeners, I'll be the one to make the prediction on this one.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: And again, never any bias.
- 30:29SPEAKER_01: I know Western Wayne always, you know, well coached, gonna put up a fight.
- 30:34SPEAKER_01: Could be a competitive game here, and I think Coach Juan says Hornets expect that.
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: To me, though, I just think home field advantage and the momentum that the Hornets have rolling in makes them the favorite.
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: So that would be my prediction this week.
- 30:45SPEAKER_01: Good luck to both ball clubs.
- 30:46SPEAKER_01: That should be a good football game Friday night, 7 p.m.
- 30:49SPEAKER_01: at Honesdale.
- 30:50SPEAKER_01: Dunmore Bucks at Mid Valley, unbeaten Dunmore coach.
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: They tested Mid Valley team that's three and two and could be dangerous at home behind Caden Barnasquez.
- 30:59SPEAKER_01: Can the Spartans pull an upset?
- 31:01SPEAKER_02: Well, they run they run the ball really well.
- 31:03SPEAKER_02: Uh Barnasquez has been almost around 200 yards the last couple weeks rushing and if not over it, and three uh touchdowns last week.
- 31:11SPEAKER_02: So uh, you know, they're doing a nice job running the ball, which again helps uh take time off the clock.
- 31:17SPEAKER_02: Sometimes you know you're worried about a team like Dunmore that scores a lot of points, rush the ball, uh, use all the 40-second clock and milk it and see if you can get some, you know, get the game close in the fourth quarter and see if your run game can kind of wear a team down.
- 31:30SPEAKER_02: So I think that's probably what they're gonna do.
- 31:32SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, and you're gonna see if Dunmore can stop the run, which in years past they have.
- 31:37SPEAKER_02: They've done a nice job with that.
- 31:38SPEAKER_02: You know, you know, free rushing touchdowns, Burke and Costanzo, touchdown each.
- 31:43SPEAKER_02: Uh, so they got a lot of weapons.
- 31:45SPEAKER_02: Um, again, I'm gonna go with Dunmore until the team knocks them off, but uh this could be a game that's this will probably be one of their tougher opponents they've played uh so far through the first five weeks.
- 31:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Dunmore certainly can't let their guard down there.
- 31:59SPEAKER_01: I agree, they're gonna be well coached and they're able to stop the run or at least contain it.
- 32:03SPEAKER_01: And I just think you can't teach speed that Dunmore has.
- 32:06SPEAKER_01: I have Dunmore, again, pulling for those unrundeated teams there in the in the rankings there.
- 32:11SPEAKER_01: Go Bucks, I think they're definitely a favorite this week, but should be a competitive one.
- 32:16SPEAKER_01: North Pocono at Wilkes Bear, 5-0 North Pocono.
- 32:20SPEAKER_01: They got to travel, can't let their guard down versus a 1-4 Wilkes Bear, but they are the district's number one team behind Chase Zimmerman.
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: Wilkes Bear is one and four, but still has NEPA passing leader Declan Greger, who can make it interesting.
- 32:31SPEAKER_01: Who do we like, Coach?
- 32:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Wilkes Bear has been kind of up and down.
- 32:34SPEAKER_02: They've looked uh, you know, they've hung in some games and not played real well in other ones, and obviously North Pocono's been playing great.
- 32:41SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, I think I just think again they have too many weapons.
- 32:45SPEAKER_02: Uh, they'll keep this thing rolling.
- 32:47SPEAKER_02: And um, I'm gonna say this uh this could be an ugly one too, because I just think they'll have a hard time stopping that run game and uh stopping the athletes in North Pocono.
- 32:56SPEAKER_02: So I'll take North Pocono here.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: Agree there.
- 32:59SPEAKER_01: Nothing more to say on that one.
- 33:00SPEAKER_01: North Pocono 5-0, I believe they keep rolling.
- 33:03SPEAKER_01: Wallin Pop Pack at West Grant on Friday at 7.
- 33:06SPEAKER_01: We have a surging Wallin Pop Pack team.
- 33:08SPEAKER_01: I said your Hornets knocked them off, coach.
- 33:11SPEAKER_01: They've just seemed to be figuring things out and playing better every week.
- 33:14SPEAKER_01: Ed Keysendah and Jack Jet Jake Rafferty leading the charge.
- 33:18SPEAKER_01: They visit a West Granton team that's looking to bounce back.
- 33:20SPEAKER_01: They've they're running through their gauntlet of the schedule now.
- 33:22SPEAKER_01: They've had some tough losses.
- 33:24SPEAKER_01: Um, but they're led behind Austin Sostri, who we like.
- 33:28SPEAKER_01: And I see in the comments there, you know, someone that knows a lot about West Granton football, Corey Joyce.
- 33:34SPEAKER_01: And he's saying something that I said to you a couple weeks ago, Coach.
- 33:37SPEAKER_01: He he passes the eye test, uh, Sostry there.
- 33:40SPEAKER_01: You know, topper crew, uh, I think he has that pedigree, ninth grade, with a billing team around him, and he's leading them as a young kid.
- 33:48SPEAKER_01: What do you see happening in this game?
- 33:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I told you this.
- 33:51SPEAKER_02: We had passing scrimmages with West, and Coach Manetti was really high on Austin, uh, really liked what he could do and was uh you know really happy for the future that he has ahead, which uh he'll be an unbelievable player.
- 34:03SPEAKER_02: And again, I just think uh this is a tough going for them just because they're not used to this week by week schedule of playing some of these better teams, and I think uh it starts to catch up with you a little bit as you as you walk yourself through that uh wicked Division I uh schedule with you know the Valley of Us, North Pocono, then you run into Wall and Paulpak, who's playing real well.
- 34:26SPEAKER_02: So uh I'm gonna take Wall and Paul Pack here.
- 34:28SPEAKER_02: I think they'll be five and one.
- 34:29SPEAKER_02: West Scranton's just gonna uh had a tough time stopping some of these power teams, and I I think they'll have a hard time with Keysendahl and Rafferty and all the things they're able to do.
- 34:38SPEAKER_02: And uh, you know, I just think again, they'll spread them out a little bit.
- 34:42SPEAKER_02: Uh West Scranton, and they might get some big plays on them, but I just don't think they'll be able to keep up with the physicality as the game goes.
- 34:49SPEAKER_01: Well said there.
- 34:50SPEAKER_01: And then you get a lot of good quarterbacks were featuring these.
- 34:53SPEAKER_01: I see Doug Noldy even the chat.
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: He I missed this before, but he mentioned good to see Noah Kale back.
- 34:58SPEAKER_01: And again, Abbotton's got two good quarterbacks and Kale and Gavin Shea.
- 35:02SPEAKER_01: Um, and I again pop back here.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: I think they're gonna keep rolling with their balanced team and some good spotlight games we mentioned, Coach, but a lot more yet to feature here around the district.
- 35:12SPEAKER_01: Rapid fire style now.
- 35:14SPEAKER_01: Delaware Valley one and four at Valley View three-2.
- 35:19SPEAKER_01: I think Valley View is gonna be really hungry to keep this one rolling here.
- 35:23SPEAKER_01: Number three big school hosting a struggling Delaware Valley that knows this is the game that they need to turn it around.
- 35:28SPEAKER_01: Colin Dempsey, I believe, quarterbacking for Valley View, and the Cougars are favored.
- 35:33SPEAKER_01: Coach, how do you see this one?
- 35:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I just think uh I think it's gonna be an interesting game because every time Valley View plays DB, it's always a tough game.
- 35:40SPEAKER_02: It's a tough fought game.
- 35:41SPEAKER_02: DB always plays Valley View tough.
- 35:44SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, I I like I said, they didn't have Estevez last week.
- 35:48SPEAKER_02: I think that's a big loss for them.
- 35:50SPEAKER_02: I don't know if he's playing this week or not.
- 35:52SPEAKER_02: Um they just have been struggling a little bit.
- 35:54SPEAKER_02: And again, I think between the games they played early in the year, tough opponents, tough opponents now, uh the last couple weeks.
- 36:01SPEAKER_02: And then Valley View, I think, has been real balanced last week.
- 36:04SPEAKER_02: Dempsey, two touchdown passes.
- 36:06SPEAKER_02: He's done a great job for them uh filling in since the injury they had to their uh to Brown, their starter.
- 36:12SPEAKER_02: They had eight different people score last week in their game uh against Scranton.
- 36:16SPEAKER_02: Uh Brody Bargela, big tight end, uh, which I think will also have a bright future.
- 36:21SPEAKER_02: He had his first uh high school score uh passed to the tight end.
- 36:25SPEAKER_02: So um, you know, I I think Valley View's balanced right now.
- 36:29SPEAKER_02: It's at Valley View.
- 36:30SPEAKER_02: I think uh DVs struggle a little bit, and I'm gonna give the nod to Valley Buger.
- 36:34SPEAKER_01: I love hearing Brody Barghello there.
- 36:35SPEAKER_01: I believe Todd's his dad there.
- 36:37SPEAKER_01: And coach with Todd at Lackawanna College.
- 36:40SPEAKER_01: Coach, if you ever need someone to give a motivated halftime speech, he's your guy.
- 36:44SPEAKER_01: Uh, he got our team so hyped for a bowl game the one year.
- 36:47SPEAKER_01: One of the best speeches I ever gave, I ever heard.
- 36:50SPEAKER_01: Uh so congrats to Bargelo there scoring.
- 36:53SPEAKER_01: Hazleton, one and four at Dallas, 5-0, unbeaten Dallas with fit of the week honored.
- 36:58SPEAKER_01: Tys Mason should handle a one-and-four hazelton team, coach.
- 37:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think Hazleton's just been struggling.
- 37:04SPEAKER_02: Uh, they don't have a whole lot going right right now.
- 37:06SPEAKER_02: So, and Dallas is just so tough.
- 37:08SPEAKER_02: They're that team, like I said, they don't make mistakes.
- 37:11SPEAKER_02: Uh, coach stresses special teams, they do a great job on special teams.
- 37:15SPEAKER_02: Started the game off last week with a kickoff return touchdown, which I know uh you know coach loves at Dallas.
- 37:22SPEAKER_02: He talks about it constantly.
- 37:23SPEAKER_02: He talks about special teams in a weight room.
- 37:25SPEAKER_02: That's his two uh big mantras there at Dallas, and they do a good job with both.
- 37:30SPEAKER_02: Um, Dallas will just be too much here with Gesky, Pitcavage, uh Slavinsky, and uh, it's just too much for I think for Hazleton to overcome.
- 37:39SPEAKER_01: Tunkanic 0-5 at Montrose, 4-1.
- 37:42SPEAKER_01: Montrose looks to keep rolling against a winless Tunkanic.
- 37:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think Montrose will keep it going here.
- 37:48SPEAKER_02: Uh McNamy's done a great job for them, another 135 yards and a touchdown.
- 37:52SPEAKER_02: Last week their game was a surprise to me because I thought they would struggle and they they uh got the win last week, which is great for them.
- 37:59SPEAKER_02: Um Tunkanic had a close game against Panther Valley, but I just don't think they're there yet.
- 38:04SPEAKER_02: Uh, so I'll take Montrose in this one.
- 38:07SPEAKER_01: Crestwood 1-4 at Wyoming area, 3-2.
- 38:11SPEAKER_01: Wyoming area off the Western Wayne win hosts a reeling Crestwood.
- 38:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Crestwood just has a lot of injuries.
- 38:17SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, I got to talk to Coach a lot before the game and after the game, and uh, they're just struggling a lot because of their offense relies so much on their skill kids and being able to run the ball on that single wing, and they've just struggled doing that a little bit.
- 38:30SPEAKER_02: Um, Wyoming area, I think, is starting to hit their stride.
- 38:33SPEAKER_02: Uh Kopechny's kind of been lighting it up for them.
- 38:36SPEAKER_02: Kondroski at 146 yard yards and a touchdown.
- 38:39SPEAKER_02: So uh, and it's at Wyoming area, which I'll tell you is one of the hardest places to play at.
- 38:43SPEAKER_02: So I'll go with Wyoming area.
- 38:45SPEAKER_01: Susquehanna 0-5 at Carbondale, 2-3.
- 38:48SPEAKER_01: Carbondale should get right against a winless Susquehanna.
- 38:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think Carbondale, I really think Carbondale win out.
- 38:54SPEAKER_02: I think they'll end up 7-3.
- 38:56SPEAKER_02: I think their last five games are against opponents that uh, you know, that I think they can handle.
- 39:00SPEAKER_02: And again, they played a tough beginning of the year schedule, which I think has the battle tested.
- 39:05SPEAKER_02: So uh, and Susquehanna's just had a little rough time as well as some of these other teams just stopping teams, and they've had a rough, uh, you know, tough schedule at the beginning of the year as well.
- 39:15SPEAKER_02: Uh, but I'm gonna take Carbonell here.
- 39:16SPEAKER_02: Mason Bogolino, I think, is gonna be too much for uh Susquehanna to stop.
- 39:21SPEAKER_01: Nanacoke 1 and 4 at Lake Lehman, two and three.
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: Lake Lehman fresh off a road win.
- 39:27SPEAKER_01: Host of struggling Nanokoke.
- 39:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Lake Lehman has uh they've been spreading the ball as well.
- 39:31SPEAKER_02: Cordon Harris rushing and receiving touchdown.
- 39:34SPEAKER_02: Uh Jesse Strenfell had three touchdown passes, and they've done a nice job running the ball.
- 39:39SPEAKER_02: So uh I don't Nanacoke just has been struggling since uh you know the last couple of years.
- 39:44SPEAKER_02: They've struggled with most of their opponents, so I'll take Lake Lehman here.
- 39:48SPEAKER_01: Wyoming Valley West 3-2 keeps climbing.
- 39:51SPEAKER_01: They host Scranton still seeking their first win.
- 39:54SPEAKER_01: 0-5.
- 39:55SPEAKER_01: Any chance here?
- 39:56SPEAKER_02: Uh probably not.
- 39:57SPEAKER_02: Wyoming Valley West is playing really well now.
- 39:59SPEAKER_02: Ressinger, 105 yards rushing.
- 40:01SPEAKER_02: Eastman, another three passing touchdowns.
- 40:04SPEAKER_02: Uh Council at 107 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
- 40:08SPEAKER_02: So they're spreading the ball around, good athletes, and then uh Scranton's just really struggled stopping people.
- 40:14SPEAKER_02: I think uh Chris Manning's doing a nice job.
- 40:16SPEAKER_02: Sean Fairweather, two of their better uh players on the team, but I just don't think there'll be enough.
- 40:21SPEAKER_02: Uh I see Wyoming Valley West big in this game.
- 40:24SPEAKER_01: Scranton School District, hang in there.
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: You know, it's a lot of potential in that program, a lot of young guys.
- 40:29SPEAKER_01: You gotta stay together, stick together, keep learning from that film each week, and there's definitely better days ahead.
- 40:36SPEAKER_01: Be patient.
- 40:36SPEAKER_02: Be patient.
- 40:37SPEAKER_01: Have to be, have to be.
- 40:39SPEAKER_01: Coach Berwick, two and three at Hanover area on five.
- 40:42SPEAKER_01: Berwick tries to snap a skit against a winless Hanover, probably in the same boat as Scranton.
- 40:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Berwick, I think, like I said, without Cleaver, that's a different offense.
- 40:50SPEAKER_02: He's he was really their whole offense.
- 40:52SPEAKER_02: So uh without him, I think it'll be a closer game, maybe, than it should be.
- 40:56SPEAKER_02: Uh you know, Hanover's done a nice job.
- 40:58SPEAKER_02: Richardson uh throws the ball all over the place, but they've struggled stopping people and winning games.
- 41:03SPEAKER_02: Um, so I'm gonna take Berwick here.
- 41:06SPEAKER_01: Old Forge 1 and 4 at Lackawanna Trail 0 and 5.
- 41:09SPEAKER_01: Two teams chasing wins.
- 41:10SPEAKER_01: Old Forge is coming off a 35-28-5 with Riverside.
- 41:14SPEAKER_01: Is that enough momentum, Coach, maybe to get win number two?
- 41:16SPEAKER_02: This might be one of the better games of the week.
- 41:18SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, just because of where these teams are going.
- 41:21SPEAKER_02: I told you Lackawanna Trail is gonna start to get some players back that have been injured, which I think will make a big difference for them.
- 41:28SPEAKER_02: But I think Old Forge's players are getting a little, with all the games under their belt, they're getting a little more uh, you know, they're doing things right each week.
- 41:36SPEAKER_02: Um, a little more of what Coach wants to get out of them.
- 41:38SPEAKER_02: They've been kind of given.
- 41:40SPEAKER_02: So I think that uh loss last week, even though it was a loss, I think it'll be a spark.
- 41:44SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna take Old Forge in this game over Trill.
- 41:47SPEAKER_01: The Oxford Hornets, your cousin Hornets over there.
- 41:51SPEAKER_01: One and four at Pitston area, two and three.
- 41:54SPEAKER_01: Pitston's off a 46-7 route of Hazleton, hosting a non-con non-league visitor.
- 41:59SPEAKER_02: Uh, I don't know anything about Oxford, uh, but I'm gonna tell you here, sitting in this chair, I'm gonna be rooting for Pitston.
- 42:05SPEAKER_02: So uh I hope Coach gets a win.
- 42:08SPEAKER_02: They've they've uh done a nice job of scoring a ton of points uh this year.
- 42:12SPEAKER_02: They've been giving up a lot, but they've been scoring a lot.
- 42:14SPEAKER_02: So uh hopefully in this game they do the same thing.
- 42:17SPEAKER_02: They outscore Oxford, and uh I'll take Pittsonary.
- 42:20SPEAKER_01: Pittsonary, great chance to be 500 here at 3-3 and get some good momentum going for the second half of the season.
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: Speaking of momentum, Holy Cross, two and three at Holy Redeemer, one and four, Saturday at seven.
- 42:33SPEAKER_01: This is our only Saturday game.
- 42:34SPEAKER_01: Two teams looking to build.
- 42:36SPEAKER_01: Holy Cross has won two of the last three.
- 42:39SPEAKER_02: I'm taking Holy Cross.
- 42:40SPEAKER_02: We've been uh riding them the last couple weeks.
- 42:42SPEAKER_02: Uh, they've done a nice job.
- 42:43SPEAKER_02: Rokowski's been lighting it up.
- 42:45SPEAKER_02: 76 yards passing last week, two touchdowns.
- 42:48SPEAKER_02: Uh Transu uh rushing touchdown, and then uh Holy Redeemer has Rakowski and Brady McDermott, who is uh their one-two punch their quarterback and wide receiver.
- 42:58SPEAKER_02: But uh I'm gonna go with Holy Cross this week, keeping this thing rolling.
- 43:02SPEAKER_01: I think one of the student athletes' moms for Holy Cross listened to the show last week, gave some kind words, coach, on on Facebook there.
- 43:11SPEAKER_01: Just thankful because you know they had a tough, really hard start of the season, so they appreciated us recognizing them last week here on Sportswire.
- 43:18SPEAKER_01: But congrats to Holy Cross for two in a row and good luck.
- 43:21SPEAKER_01: Good luck to both teams.
- 43:22SPEAKER_01: Should be a good Saturday game there.
