- 0:00Speaker 1: All right.
- 0:00Speaker 2: Welcome back to college football addiction. Something brand new for
- 0:04Speaker 2: you guys. We've had Graham on a ton to talk UGA.
- 0:07Speaker 2: You guys have enjoyed his content and Graham and I
- 0:10Speaker 2: had some fun talking about the playoff last year. And
- 0:13Speaker 2: so we've been tossing around an idea really since what
- 0:16Speaker 2: January of last year of this year. of how do
- 0:19Speaker 2: we do content that we'll still do stuff around playoff time.
- 0:22Speaker 2: I'm sure we'll still talk UGA plenty this year, as
- 0:24Speaker 2: they'll be in plenty of big games. But how do
- 0:26Speaker 2: we talk about other college football games, but do it
- 0:29Speaker 2: in a way that's different than just a surface-level kind
- 0:33Speaker 2: of preview or recap that you can get anywhere? We
- 0:36Speaker 2: talk about a lot of different teams on any of
- 0:39Speaker 2: the given channels here on the College Football Edition Network.
- 0:42Speaker 2: But Graham, I think excels. And I'll pat you on
- 0:44Speaker 2: the back here, Graham, as we get going. Graham really
- 0:46Speaker 2: excels at like the deep dive analysis. And so we're
- 0:50Speaker 2: just going to pick a couple of games a week
- 0:52Speaker 2: to do that with. We're not going to be your
- 0:54Speaker 2: podcast or show that is going to give you a
- 0:58Speaker 2: surface level view of 16 games a week. That's just
- 1:01Speaker 2: not the goal. I don't think either of us have
- 1:03Speaker 2: enough time for that or headspace or anything else. But
- 1:06Speaker 2: if we can take a deep dive on three to four,
- 1:08Speaker 2: it's a huge week like that November 7th week or
- 1:11Speaker 2: September 19th. We'll, we'll maybe do a few more, but
- 1:14Speaker 2: just kind of deep dive onto a few things. Graham's
- 1:17Speaker 2: really good there. I am good at shutting up and
- 1:20Speaker 2: listening to him talk when, when he gets going. So we, we,
- 1:24Speaker 2: we make a good team. We make a good pair there.
- 1:26Speaker 2: You know, all of our content on the channel brought
- 1:28Speaker 2: to you by prize picks. We appreciate them, but Graham,
- 1:31Speaker 2: I'm excited to do this. We're going to start with
- 1:33Speaker 2: Clemson LSU. There's maybe more going on off the field
- 1:36Speaker 2: with these teams than there is on the field. But overall,
- 1:39Speaker 2: I am really excited to do this.
- 1:41Speaker 1: I'm excited as well, man. I know you're busy. I'm busy.
- 1:45Speaker 3: So I think it speaks to the mutual respect that
- 1:49Speaker 3: we have for one another, that both.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Of us want to carve out the time to do
- 1:53Speaker 1: this with each other.
- 1:54Speaker 3: And yeah, to your point, I think it's a lot
- 1:57Speaker 3: more intriguing for me at this moment in my career,
- 2:03Speaker 3: I guess, to dive deep on two or three games
- 2:06Speaker 3: a week than to try and read box scores for
- 2:10Speaker 3: four or five minutes on a lot. So I'm excited
- 2:12Speaker 3: about the opportunity that this kind of presents.
- 2:14Speaker 1: And, uh, I think that.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Your audience and what you've built, uh, hopefully we'll kind
- 2:21Speaker 3: of overlap and intersect well with what we're going to
- 2:23Speaker 3: do in this.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:25Speaker 2: So let's jump right into it. That's our one-time introduction.
- 2:28Speaker 2: If people miss that, then sorry, you should, you should
- 2:31Speaker 2: have watched the Clemson LSU preview. Um, We don't have to,
- 2:36Speaker 2: we can talk about any angle of this that you want,
- 2:39Speaker 2: but maybe without going too deep into all of the
- 2:43Speaker 2: off field drama, which I did appreciate Debo Sweeney's pun today,
- 2:46Speaker 2: thought that was really good. Do you buy, I don't
- 2:49Speaker 2: buy so much into the idea that what's happening off
- 2:54Speaker 2: the field with LSU or any program is, really makes
- 2:57Speaker 2: a massive impact on what happens when the kickoff starts. Now,
- 3:02Speaker 2: can it affect prep? Can it affect some of the
- 3:04Speaker 2: things that happen throughout the week? Maybe. I'll buy that
- 3:06Speaker 2: a little more. I truly think when Clemson and LSU
- 3:09Speaker 2: kick off on Saturday Night in Death Valley, we're just
- 3:12Speaker 2: getting a hell of a football game. And maybe I'm
- 3:14Speaker 2: wrong there, but that's always kind of been my take.
- 3:16Speaker 2: I'll get right back to chatting with Graham, but first
- 3:18Speaker 2: I want to give some love to our friends over
- 3:20Speaker 2: at PrizePix. I've told you about this lineup on a
- 3:22Speaker 2: couple of different shows, but I do want to emphasize it.
- 3:25Speaker 2: We are taking... Cam Cook to score a touchdown, Mark
- 3:28Speaker 2: Fletcher Jr. to score a touchdown, and Kiwan Lacy to
- 3:31Speaker 2: score a touchdown. Grab all three of those, place your picks,
- 3:35Speaker 2: set your lineup using code HMA. If you play a
- 3:38Speaker 2: $ 5 lineup and win it, not only do you win
- 3:40Speaker 2: the lineup, you get $ 150 in lineups instantly. Go check
- 3:43Speaker 2: out the Prize Picks app. Make sure that you are
- 3:46Speaker 2: on there for this college football season. They've got tons
- 3:48Speaker 2: of promos going on. I'll tell you about more promos coming.
- 3:51Speaker 2: with them as we go through the season. But I
- 3:53Speaker 2: am excited about everything that we get to do with
- 3:55Speaker 2: the prize picks app this year. Again, the code is HMA.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Now back to chatting with Graham.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, look, I can recall sort of having
- 4:04Speaker 3: to eat crow after the Michigan Penn state game in 2023, where.
- 4:08Speaker 1: I was like, Oh, like this is too distracting.
- 4:12Speaker 3: There's no way that Michigan's going to be able to
- 4:15Speaker 3: get it together and focus for this game.
- 4:17Speaker 1: And then they rallied around.
- 4:18Speaker 3: That distraction and we, have seen that with teams a
- 4:22Speaker 3: lot recently in college football.
- 4:23Speaker 1: We saw that with Ole Miss last year.
- 4:24Speaker 3: So it's hard to say how anybody's going to respond
- 4:27Speaker 3: to this, but the prep side of this I do
- 4:30Speaker 3: find interesting, right? Like in 2020, when Lane was in
- 4:35Speaker 3: his first season at Ole Miss, their first game, they
- 4:38Speaker 3: played Florida and Oxford, and that game was a total shootout.
- 4:42Speaker 1: And that Florida offense was great.
- 4:44Speaker 3: Kyle Trask, Kyle Pitts, Tony, a lot of stars on
- 4:49Speaker 3: the field.
- 4:51Speaker 1: But that moment in college football.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Was so uniquely tailored, in my opinion, to letting offenses–
- 4:59Speaker 3: I mean, that was a historic offensive season across the sport.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Some of that came back to COVID restrictions and how
- 5:04Speaker 3: teams could practice and all that. But the point I
- 5:08Speaker 3: make in bringing that back up is I think there's
- 5:11Speaker 3: sort of this assumption that any time Lane Kiffin gets
- 5:15Speaker 3: onto a football field with a group of college football
- 5:17Speaker 3: players– that that team's just going to go out and
- 5:20Speaker 3: the offense is going to hum up and down the field.
- 5:23Speaker 3: And in a large part, that is correct. I just
- 5:27Speaker 3: think this is a really unique spot with so many
- 5:30Speaker 3: portal players that have come into LSU and then, you know,
- 5:35Speaker 3: all the staff turnover and you've got guys coming in,
- 5:39Speaker 3: you know, to play tight end, like, earlier this week
- 5:42Speaker 3: in that whole situation. So we've never seen anything like
- 5:45Speaker 3: it before. I would be lying if I sat here
- 5:47Speaker 3: and said that I think we can predict it, but
- 5:49Speaker 3: I do look back on last year's LSU offense. And
- 5:54Speaker 3: I know that there's been staff turnover. I know that
- 5:57Speaker 3: they turned this roster over in the portal, but you're
- 5:59Speaker 3: still talking about a team that was 126 in the
- 6:02Speaker 3: country and expected points added per rush, 131st in the
- 6:06Speaker 3: country and average third down distance and a lot of
- 6:09Speaker 3: problems with that offense. Like they were, they were in
- 6:13Speaker 3: the hundreds or worse in pretty much every major offensive category.
- 6:18Speaker 1: On the defensive side of the ball. Like Clemson, I
- 6:20Speaker 1: know they had a rough.
- 6:21Speaker 3: Season last year, but they, they were pretty good in
- 6:24Speaker 3: certain respects, like 31st nationally and third and fourth down
- 6:28Speaker 3: success rate, which is essentially just measuring.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Did they get off the field? You know? Okay.
- 6:33Speaker 3: Like not top 10, but, but certainly not bad. They
- 6:35Speaker 3: were fourth in average third down distance allowed. Eight yards
- 6:39Speaker 3: was their average third down faced as a defense, which
- 6:42Speaker 3: is exceptional. So I do think that there's some of
- 6:46Speaker 3: that that comes into play here for me. When you
- 6:48Speaker 3: look at overall snaps in college football that came out
- 6:51Speaker 3: of the portal.
- 6:51Speaker 1: This year, LSU is fourth.
- 6:54Speaker 3: And I am sure Clemson is probably somewhere way down.
- 6:59Speaker 1: In the hundreds. I know they're starting to play in
- 7:02Speaker 1: the portal a little bit. 102nd was Clemson.
- 7:03Speaker 3: 3,100 portal snaps at Clemson versus 13,511 portal snaps brought
- 7:10Speaker 3: into the program from LSU. So I do think that
- 7:14Speaker 3: there's an advantage to Clemson, even if all this mess
- 7:17Speaker 3: wasn't going on, just in.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Some of that continuity.
- 7:20Speaker 3: Now, they have their own coordinator change with Chad Morris
- 7:23Speaker 3: coming back, but I highly doubt that Davo hired Chad
- 7:28Speaker 3: Morris to come in and do an offensive overall.
- 7:30Speaker 1: He came in to run Davo's offense, which is what
- 7:32Speaker 1: Davo wants to run. So I expect.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Christopher Vazina and, you know, that crew of guys that
- 7:39Speaker 3: they're putting out there offensively to run the offense they've
- 7:41Speaker 3: run in practice for the last however many years they've
- 7:43Speaker 3: been in the program.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Yeah, and I do wonder, I mean, you wonder about
- 7:47Speaker 2: when you look at this, I am of the belief
- 7:50Speaker 2: that I don't know that I think LSU is going
- 7:53Speaker 2: to be elite this year, but I am of the
- 7:55Speaker 2: belief that they do figure out the offense. Again, when
- 7:57Speaker 2: Lane and Charlie are on that side, I'm going to
- 8:00Speaker 2: buy it. I don't care who the starting 11 is.
- 8:04Speaker 2: I think they're going to be able to figure it out.
- 8:06Speaker 2: The question is, do they figure it out week one?
- 8:10Speaker 2: against a talented Clemson team that has his deficiencies. And
- 8:13Speaker 2: we'll talk about some of those in a moment. Do
- 8:15Speaker 2: they figure it out week one with all the pressure
- 8:18Speaker 2: with a quarterback that missed some reps in spring, like
- 8:21Speaker 2: all the factors that are playing on this on the field,
- 8:24Speaker 2: off the field. Is it enough week one to go
- 8:27Speaker 2: out and get the win now from the Clemson perspective,
- 8:29Speaker 2: you've got a guy making a start and has not,
- 8:32Speaker 2: I think Vazina has one start this year when Kate
- 8:34Speaker 2: got her last year, you had a guy making his
- 8:37Speaker 2: second start, but for all intents and purposes, first time
- 8:40Speaker 2: as a full-time starter in maybe the worst place that
- 8:43Speaker 2: you could make a first time start in all of
- 8:46Speaker 2: college football, right? Like maybe in all of football, right?
- 8:48Speaker 2: I don't know if any NFL stadiums are this intimidating and,
- 8:52Speaker 2: And not only we talk about like the off field
- 8:54Speaker 2: circus for LSU. Well, that's probably a good thing for
- 8:57Speaker 2: how crazy death Valley is going to be on Saturday night,
- 9:00Speaker 2: because that crowd will be as lit as they've ever
- 9:02Speaker 2: been for his first game. So you think about that?
- 9:06Speaker 2: You think about Vic Burley, not playing. I wonder if,
- 9:09Speaker 2: I mean, LSU against, you know, running the ball this year,
- 9:12Speaker 2: I expect that to take another step forward this year
- 9:15Speaker 2: with some of the talent again in game one. I'm
- 9:17Speaker 2: not sure, but by game six, I do. So again,
- 9:20Speaker 2: With Vic Burley not being there, how much of an
- 9:22Speaker 2: impact is that? With those portal, you mentioned not a
- 9:25Speaker 2: lot of snaps out of the portal. Where there are
- 9:27Speaker 2: a lot of snaps out of the portal is in
- 9:28Speaker 2: that secondary. And how does that matchup look? So when
- 9:31Speaker 2: you really look at some of the matchups that are
- 9:33Speaker 2: deeper than just, oh, well, LSU's got paid this much
- 9:36Speaker 2: for a roster and Dabo's on his way out. When
- 9:38Speaker 2: you look deeper at this, the matchups are fascinating in
- 9:42Speaker 2: this game. And if you could tell me those three
- 9:45Speaker 2: things that I mentioned, Clemson secondary, how the true freshman plays,
- 9:49Speaker 2: and what LSU's run game looks like against Clemson's defensive line, yeah,
- 9:53Speaker 2: I could very easily tell you who's going to.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Win this game. Well, for sure. And I mean, you know,
- 9:58Speaker 1: I I know that.
- 9:59Speaker 3: LSU brought in Jordan Seton and like, we talk, I
- 10:04Speaker 3: think way too much in college football about what teams
- 10:06Speaker 3: brought in from the portal and maybe not enough about
- 10:08Speaker 3: what they lost. Cause like, if you've got water leaking
- 10:11Speaker 3: out of the bottom of the cup and you're pouring
- 10:12Speaker 3: water in the top, does the level dramatically change?
- 10:16Speaker 1: Right.
- 10:17Speaker 3: So I, I, I know they brought in Seton. I
- 10:19Speaker 3: liked obviously Seton, great prospect, super athletic, but you know,
- 10:25Speaker 3: Burley being out certainly helps LSU upfront for sure. But like,
- 10:30Speaker 3: there are some guys on this offensive line at LSU
- 10:33Speaker 3: that I have questions about. Like Alouba is a guy
- 10:36Speaker 3: that was at Georgia at one point in his career
- 10:38Speaker 3: and has taken kind of a circuitous path back to
- 10:41Speaker 3: the SEC. But like, this is kind of a different animal. Uh, the,
- 10:46Speaker 3: the guard positions in general for LSU in this game,
- 10:49Speaker 3: I have questions about, uh, you know, and, and I,
- 10:52Speaker 3: I also look at, I know Burley's out on the
- 10:55Speaker 3: defensive line, but, uh, we'll help the kid for, for
- 10:58Speaker 3: Clemson didn't play as many snaps last year, like as,
- 11:03Speaker 3: as Burley did, or doesn't have the profile of Burley.
- 11:05Speaker 1: But if you just kind of.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Look at how he graded out as a pass rusher
- 11:10Speaker 3: from an efficiency standpoint, from, um, from a lot of
- 11:13Speaker 3: different areas.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Like he is a very good edge defender.
- 11:16Speaker 3: And at 6'6, 260 pounds, he has some length that
- 11:21Speaker 3: can be problematic if you're not really like.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Getting on your blocks and executing them close to perfectly.
- 11:29Speaker 3: So I'm very interested to see that upfront matchup because
- 11:32Speaker 3: I think with LSU or I should say with Lane
- 11:36Speaker 3: in general and Charlie Weiss Jr. in general, like we
- 11:40Speaker 3: all talk about the passing offense and, and for good reason. So,
- 11:45Speaker 3: but you look at like the, the better teams that
- 11:48Speaker 3: they've had and the better moments that they've had together.
- 11:51Speaker 3: It's key on Lacey, you know, running for all those
- 11:53Speaker 3: yards last year at Ole Miss, right? Like the run
- 11:56Speaker 3: game and the balance is really what creates problems. And
- 12:00Speaker 3: Clemson as a defense, even as that program has moved
- 12:06Speaker 3: off of, you know, national title contender status, it's been
- 12:10Speaker 3: a good run defense and they have good pieces in
- 12:12Speaker 3: that front seven and Sammy Brown and, you know, a
- 12:15Speaker 3: lot of athleticism up front and there's still sort of
- 12:17Speaker 3: some remnants of the recruiting that we used to see
- 12:22Speaker 3: from Clemson in that front seven, maybe more than anywhere else. Yeah.
- 12:27Speaker 2: A bigger picture of zoom out. See, like I told
- 12:29Speaker 2: you at the beginning, Graham's, really good at getting into the,
- 12:32Speaker 2: the deep details. And I'm going to like, Oh, well,
- 12:34Speaker 2: how does the, how's the uniform color impact things? But
- 12:38Speaker 2: I won't go that big picture, but how much do
- 12:40Speaker 2: you think, how much do you think though? Cause I,
- 12:43Speaker 2: I don't buy so much into like the, you know,
- 12:47Speaker 2: this circus that's going on over here is going to
- 12:48Speaker 2: impact the game. What I do buy into is pressure.
- 12:52Speaker 2: And I had a pressure on Lane Kiffin in, in
- 12:55Speaker 2: Baton Rouge than there ever was for any single, single
- 12:58Speaker 2: game in, in, I also think there's a bigger pressure
- 13:03Speaker 2: on this LSU roster that does have to figure out
- 13:06Speaker 2: how to jump together for the first time against a
- 13:12Speaker 2: quality opponent. I know Clemson is not what they were
- 13:15Speaker 2: in 2016. That's fine. They were voted 26th in the
- 13:18Speaker 2: AP poll. They're not like some team that's ranked 50th.
- 13:22Speaker 2: They could very easily have swapped spots with Missouri and
- 13:24Speaker 2: be right there as a ranked matchup. And I'm actually
- 13:26Speaker 2: a little surprised that they weren't just for that singular reason.
- 13:29Speaker 2: But I don't think Clemson has anything. I think the
- 13:32Speaker 2: other side of this is Clemson has no pressure on them.
- 13:35Speaker 2: I think there's an overall pressure on Dabo to kind
- 13:37Speaker 2: of get things back on the right path. But for Clemson, man,
- 13:40Speaker 2: I think you just get to go out swinging. And
- 13:42Speaker 2: I do think you at times see teams... Embrace that.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Hey man, nobody believes in us. There's no pressure on us.
- 13:48Speaker 2: We'll just go out and play loose and have fun.
- 13:50Speaker 2: And sometimes that works out really well for teams.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Sometimes it doesn't.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Sometimes the talent gap is too big. If LSU's offense
- 13:56Speaker 2: clicks in game one, I think it could be a
- 13:58Speaker 2: long night for Clemson. I mean, I know he is
- 14:01Speaker 2: at Miami and we're excited about what Minson can do,
- 14:03Speaker 2: but Duke put 46 up on them last year in
- 14:06Speaker 2: their Death Valley. So yeah, I think it could go
- 14:08Speaker 2: either way. But when I look at pressure in this game,
- 14:11Speaker 2: it doesn't feel like a must win for Clemson.
- 14:13Speaker 1: It feels.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Must wins the right word, but with a trip to
- 14:18Speaker 2: Oxford and then a and M coming in later this month,
- 14:21Speaker 2: this feels like a pretty close to a must win
- 14:23Speaker 2: for LSU. When you think about where the two programs are.
- 14:27Speaker 1: It does.
- 14:28Speaker 3: And look, I mean like this, you know, obviously depending
- 14:32Speaker 3: on how this game goes, it could, it could really
- 14:34Speaker 3: just add another piece to the pile on the, the
- 14:38Speaker 3: sort of narrative on where Dabo is in his career arc.
- 14:42Speaker 1: At Clemson specifically and, But man, you know, just.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Like, look, I live in North Georgia. I'm not far
- 14:50Speaker 3: from Clemson. You know, Athens and Clemson are like an
- 14:54Speaker 3: hour and 20 minutes down the road from each other.
- 14:56Speaker 3: And so I do know people around that program. And
- 14:59Speaker 3: everyone that you talk to around that program this offseason
- 15:02Speaker 3: is not like in the opinion of like no one's saying, hey,
- 15:06Speaker 3: we're going to shock the world or anything like that.
- 15:08Speaker 3: But like everyone agrees that it's a different vibe. than
- 15:12Speaker 3: has been around for a little while. And it's, it's
- 15:14Speaker 3: been kind of workmanlike and nothing, you know, has been
- 15:18Speaker 3: really given positional battle wise. And I just, I love
- 15:23Speaker 3: this spot for them. And yeah, like you can talk
- 15:27Speaker 3: about like, we can do this thing sometimes, right. Where
- 15:31Speaker 3: we become like soothsayers in the, you know, in the
- 15:34Speaker 3: ancient world or whatever. And we're trying to like huff
- 15:37Speaker 3: poisonous gases from a geyser or some shit. But like
- 15:41Speaker 3: at the end of the day, I do really like
- 15:43Speaker 3: this spot for them. Dabo, like at his best has
- 15:47Speaker 3: always been, you know, we're going to rally BYOG.
- 15:51Speaker 1: And this is a great, great moment for that. And,
- 15:55Speaker 1: and I also, I look at sort of what they've got.
- 15:59Speaker 3: The, the quarterback situation, like, is he this Harold heralded prospect?
- 16:07Speaker 1: No, not, but like, look, I mean, there's a huge
- 16:10Speaker 1: bust rate on these five-star kids. Okay. There is.
- 16:13Speaker 3: So I'm not convinced that Clemson can't go out and,
- 16:17Speaker 3: and workshop effective and efficient offense with, I can never
- 16:22Speaker 3: say his name, Vazina, but I do have a lot
- 16:28Speaker 3: of questions about how they'll hold up on the offensive line.
- 16:31Speaker 3: Like that, that to me is the, the worry and
- 16:34Speaker 3: if they can if they can win enough of those
- 16:36Speaker 3: battles like at the tackle positions with umami ellen coming
- 16:40Speaker 3: off the edge for lsu who is very good and
- 16:45Speaker 3: is worthwhile of being worried about uh they've got good
- 16:49Speaker 3: receivers downfield and and lsu you know secondaries old mrs
- 16:53Speaker 3: secondaries even at lane's best shaky at best right like
- 16:58Speaker 3: i have questions about sort of what the DB situation
- 17:02Speaker 3: will look like for LSU this season. I think they'll
- 17:04Speaker 3: eventually recruit their way out of that. But in this
- 17:07Speaker 3: game with some of these guys that Clemson has on
- 17:10Speaker 3: the outside with Wesco and more, I.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Just think there's a chance that they can kind of
- 17:18Speaker 1: turn this.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Into a little bit of a slog and Hey, like 50,
- 17:22Speaker 3: 50 balls can be the great equalizer sometimes in college football.
- 17:25Speaker 3: If they can just convince this kid to, cut it loose. Like,
- 17:29Speaker 3: that's what I think you want to see if you're
- 17:31Speaker 3: a Clemson fan more than anything is.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Just man, like go out there.
- 17:35Speaker 3: And if you get beat, you get beat, but take
- 17:37Speaker 3: your shots, you know, like force the issue in some places,
- 17:40Speaker 3: push the ball downfield. Don't try to live in, you know,
- 17:44Speaker 3: like don't come home with Mazina having a.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Average depth of target of like 4.6 yards. If that happens,
- 17:50Speaker 1: then you're getting beat no matter what.
- 17:52Speaker 3: So, you know, I think it's the caveat I would
- 17:55Speaker 3: offer on all of this is like, what, I think
- 17:58Speaker 3: we'll do.
- 17:58Speaker 1: On this show throughout the season is, is going to be.
- 18:02Speaker 3: Much, much easier when the more priors we get and
- 18:05Speaker 3: the more.
- 18:06Speaker 1: We get to watch.
- 18:07Speaker 3: So like, this is a little bit of a bag
- 18:09Speaker 3: of mystery, but if you are telling me that I
- 18:13Speaker 3: get to take Clemson in this spot and what is
- 18:17Speaker 3: the up-to-date spread on this game?
- 18:18Speaker 2: 10 and a half last time I looked. Yeah.
- 18:21Speaker 1: If you're giving me over 10, I'm taking it. I'm
- 18:24Speaker 1: taking it. And, you know, I, it just feels like
- 18:27Speaker 1: a game to me.
- 18:27Speaker 3: It's either going to come down to, you know, five
- 18:32Speaker 3: to eight points or something like that, or LSU is
- 18:36Speaker 3: going to blast them.
- 18:38Speaker 1: And it's just going to be this big tidal wave.
- 18:40Speaker 3: So if someone wanted to go out there and hit
- 18:43Speaker 3: like some alt line or something like that, like I
- 18:46Speaker 3: always liked that idea in week one and week two,
- 18:49Speaker 3: because I think that wines often operate off of, bad
- 18:53Speaker 3: assumptions early in the season from people like us in
- 18:56Speaker 3: the media. But I do, I do just like this
- 19:00Speaker 3: spot for Clemson in terms of covering the spread and
- 19:03Speaker 3: keeping it close. I would be surprised if they won
- 19:05Speaker 3: this game, very surprised, but I'm not going to at
- 19:08Speaker 3: all be surprised if they come.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I'm in the same spot. I think Clemson
- 19:12Speaker 2: is a little, and I liked, I really liked what
- 19:14Speaker 2: you said. I think these shows will be more interesting
- 19:17Speaker 2: and better once we have, three data points and then
- 19:21Speaker 2: five data points and then seven data points. And by
- 19:23Speaker 2: the time, you know, kind of when we know what
- 19:25Speaker 2: teams are, LSU is one of the hardest teams to evaluate.
- 19:28Speaker 2: I mean, they're a top 10 team because of how
- 19:30Speaker 2: much talent they have. They're a 10 and a half
- 19:33Speaker 2: point favorite because of how much talent they have playing
- 19:35Speaker 2: at home, Lincoln, all of those things. And I, I
- 19:38Speaker 2: don't even think that's necessarily wrong, like in theory, but man,
- 19:43Speaker 2: how many times have we seen really talented teams take
- 19:45Speaker 2: a little while to get going? I mean, this very
- 19:48Speaker 2: LSU team, like different coach, but lost back-to-back years to
- 19:53Speaker 2: a less talented Florida state team. Now I think Florida
- 19:56Speaker 2: state was really good in 2023. And as a fan
- 19:58Speaker 2: of them, like I'm not trying to disparage them, but
- 20:00Speaker 2: going into that game, going in both those games. LSU
- 20:03Speaker 2: had a talent advantage. If you look at the, the
- 20:06Speaker 2: composite or the recruiting rankings or whatever it is like
- 20:08Speaker 2: now was Florida state playing better throughout the year.
- 20:10Speaker 3: Sure.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Like, yeah, you can buy that, but we've seen that
- 20:14Speaker 2: when teams are largely assembled through the portal, we've seen
- 20:17Speaker 2: some time for them to get up and get going.
- 20:19Speaker 2: And so I, and I, and on the other side
- 20:22Speaker 2: of that, I think Clemson is a, I don't think
- 20:26Speaker 2: they're a dark horse for the ACC mostly because that's
- 20:28Speaker 2: a one team league at this moment. And we'll see if,
- 20:31Speaker 2: if SMU or Louisville or, you know, Virginia tech or Clemson,
- 20:34Speaker 2: everybody can jump up and maybe Virginia after this week
- 20:36Speaker 2: can jump up and take that from Miami. But I
- 20:40Speaker 2: think Clemson is going to be a little bit better
- 20:41Speaker 2: than people think they are. Now I'm not predicting to
- 20:43Speaker 2: win 10 games, but it wouldn't shock me at all.
- 20:45Speaker 2: If Clemson was like eight, nine wins by the end
- 20:48Speaker 2: of the year and beat the teams they were supposed
- 20:50Speaker 2: to drop to the tough ones that, you know, were,
- 20:54Speaker 2: they play Miami, they play LSU.
- 20:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Well there, there's a talent differential there that I don't
- 20:58Speaker 2: think they can overcome. It wouldn't be surprising to me
- 21:00Speaker 2: if they won all the rest of their games, save one.
- 21:03Speaker 2: And so I think Clemson's a little undervalued. I don't
- 21:06Speaker 2: know that I'm saying that LSU is like overvalued per se,
- 21:10Speaker 2: but they might be just because we're basing a lot
- 21:13Speaker 2: of this on talent alone. And we've never seen this
- 21:15Speaker 2: team play together. We'll know a lot more by the
- 21:18Speaker 2: time we get to like the end of the first quarter,
- 21:19Speaker 2: I would think. But until we get there, it's kind
- 21:22Speaker 2: of hard to project. I like LSU to win. I,
- 21:25Speaker 2: think it's close to 10, but I think the hook
- 21:28Speaker 2: is what scares me. So I'll take Clemson to cover.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Yeah. And one other thing I'll say on this too,
- 21:32Speaker 3: is without going into, you know, a five minute deal,
- 21:38Speaker 3: if you look at some of the numbers on Sam Levitt, like,
- 21:42Speaker 3: you know, I know that he was dealing with injuries.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Last year and all that, but I do have questions.
- 21:48Speaker 3: Like I'm not, I do think that there's sort of
- 21:50Speaker 3: just an assumption that like, he's going to come in
- 21:52Speaker 3: and just light the world on fire and, Really, he's
- 21:57Speaker 3: been good in his career when throwing to one specific
- 22:01Speaker 3: wide receiver at Arizona State while having Cam Scadabo creating
- 22:06Speaker 3: a historically good season that allowed play action to function
- 22:10Speaker 3: really well. There's a lot of things that need to
- 22:15Speaker 3: come together for LSU. I just feel like the safe
- 22:19Speaker 3: side to be on is that hook is really nice,
- 22:22Speaker 3: that 10.5.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Nine and a half, I'd have to think a lot harder,
- 22:26Speaker 2: I think. But Vegas is really good at what they do.
- 22:28Speaker 2: So here comes an 11-point LSU win just to screw us.
- 22:31Speaker 2: I'm going to track this. I'm going to track this
- 22:32Speaker 2: all year. We're both taking LSU to win. We're both
- 22:34Speaker 2: taking Clemson to cover. We'll see if we get better
- 22:36Speaker 2: through the year as more data points come along.
- 22:38Speaker 1: Let's...
